:00:20. > :00:21.On tonight's show: It's time, it's here.
:00:22. > :00:35.Our guest, Jonathan Davies, shares his thoughts.
:00:36. > :00:37.We catch up with the man who couldn't stop scoring
:00:38. > :00:51.And we're on target with an Olympic hopeful.
:00:52. > :00:57.I want to get a medal. It is one of the QA have not got in my
:00:58. > :01:01.Just two more sleeps to go until Wales' Six Nations gets
:01:02. > :01:04.Recent matches between Wales and Ireland have been, well,
:01:05. > :01:07.a little nerve wracking - so the question for
:01:08. > :01:27.So, here we are a game. The build-up to the opening weekend of the Six
:01:28. > :01:31.Nations. At home, in the pub, when you watch television, you will hear
:01:32. > :01:37.a lot of these phrases. Momentum is key. We got to get off to a flyer.
:01:38. > :01:42.We just can't afford to lose that first game. And basically, everyone
:01:43. > :01:46.is beating one emotion. And that is hope.
:01:47. > :01:54.It is a really open competition I think. We bowl gone to a couple of
:01:55. > :01:57.new coaches and the World Cup is over. Three or four teams came out I
:01:58. > :02:01.think so hopefully we are in the mix.
:02:02. > :02:12.Cast your minds back to the World Cup. Apart from one or two long-term
:02:13. > :02:14.lay-offs, he has more or less got a full squad.
:02:15. > :02:22.The millionaire Richie does help in terms of putting things together. I
:02:23. > :02:26.just hope it does give us a slight advantage to go into the Six
:02:27. > :02:31.Nations. For Wales, things may be calm. Not
:02:32. > :02:36.so for Ireland. They got hammered by Argentina in the World Cup. Oquendo,
:02:37. > :02:42.the captain, has retired. And if you look at the injury list. It is
:02:43. > :02:50.extensive. They may be going for a third successive title but Ireland
:02:51. > :02:58.are certainly in transition. The problem is that trophy can be
:02:59. > :03:05.gone after one game. We can be scrambling to get some sort of
:03:06. > :03:10.decent placement after Round 1. Never one to shy away from making it
:03:11. > :03:17.the big calls. And it comes to Sunday's selection there is no room
:03:18. > :03:20.for Gethin Jenkins. And no space on the back three for Liam Williams.
:03:21. > :03:31.There is a selection for Rob Evans as a prop.
:03:32. > :03:36.What he has achieved on the field at the moment... He has matured well
:03:37. > :03:43.and he was seized the opportunity. We know what a wonderfully deliver
:03:44. > :03:45.wonderful rugby player he is. Hopefully the weather conditions
:03:46. > :03:50.might allow us to play a bit of rugby. Gethin knows he will not get
:03:51. > :03:56.through, how do we manage that process where we bring someone on as
:03:57. > :04:03.a replacement and the reserve potential exit strategy as well?
:04:04. > :04:08.Late penalties. And Wales have won in Ireland.
:04:09. > :04:11.Controversial tries. Wales have scored and Ireland are rushing up to
:04:12. > :04:17.the referee. And heroic defence.
:04:18. > :04:22.Recent matches between these two sides have been slipped by the
:04:23. > :04:26.smallest of margins and nothing suggests that Sunday will be any
:04:27. > :04:36.different. We can guarantee one thing. This one will be tense.
:04:37. > :04:41.The Six Nations are upon us. Such an exciting time. Wales chances then.
:04:42. > :04:48.What are the headlines for you? I think that the shock was the
:04:49. > :04:51.proper getting out will stop Paul James has playing exceptionally
:04:52. > :04:56.well. Rob Evans is in, looking towards the next World Cup. With the
:04:57. > :05:07.safety blanket of Gethin on the bench. That was the big shock. The
:05:08. > :05:13.other one is Tom James comes in on form, deserves his place, and
:05:14. > :05:19.Cuthbert is trying to find his form. The full-back. That was the
:05:20. > :05:27.interesting one because Liam Williams has played one game. So
:05:28. > :05:32.neither of them are really match it, so to speak. But times have changed.
:05:33. > :05:36.They seem to pick on reputation. If they fit they are in. That maybe
:05:37. > :05:38.shows that they're going to play a little bit wider.
:05:39. > :05:43.Ireland, then. Injuries. Our baby? They will be
:05:44. > :05:48.worried but it is a bit soon. The pressures of them because of the
:05:49. > :05:52.injuries. But they will know the significance of this game. Whoever
:05:53. > :05:58.wins this game will be... Do you really think how big this is?
:05:59. > :06:02.Two big games. Scotland and England, and Ireland and Wales. If Wales win
:06:03. > :06:06.that game. Three home games. Then they are in with a shout of the
:06:07. > :06:10.championship at the end. And maybe a Grand Slam. That's how important
:06:11. > :06:17.this game is. With Ireland, I think it is going to be... I don't
:06:18. > :06:26.think... Pol O'Connor is a big mess. They have got injuries. They've got
:06:27. > :06:30.enough cover to be a real threat to Wales. I don't think the injuries
:06:31. > :06:33.will affect the Irish performance. Think it is going to be one hell of
:06:34. > :06:34.a game. We're back for predictions very
:06:35. > :06:36.shortly. Thank you. For many teams in the Premier
:06:37. > :06:39.League, goals can be hard But a few years ago
:06:40. > :06:42.Swansea City had a striker Since then, that man has left
:06:43. > :07:26.the club and battled Come to northern Spain to an old
:07:27. > :07:29.industrial town. A far cry from the glitz of the Premier League. It is
:07:30. > :07:41.also the home of a fourth division football team, where Michu is trying
:07:42. > :07:46.to rebuild his career. I have come to meet the man who, two
:07:47. > :07:51.seasons ago, was one of the most feared strikers in the Premier
:07:52. > :07:55.League. Michu was the man at the moment. Playing for Spain before an
:07:56. > :08:01.ankle injury brought it all to an end.
:08:02. > :08:06.I can't remember when my last game without pain, so probably I will
:08:07. > :08:32.have paid all my life but I can play. I cant live without football.
:08:33. > :08:44.Three years ago it was a different story. He was scoring.
:08:45. > :08:48.But then Swansea manager valued him at ?30 million. Not bad after the
:08:49. > :08:58.Swans had bought him for just ?2 million.
:08:59. > :09:02.I was really happy there. Best of my life, my career. And also the crowd.
:09:03. > :09:06.I miss the team-mates and the city as well.
:09:07. > :09:16.Did she wants to leave? Was that your choice? Yes, because
:09:17. > :09:22.football is really difficult to play for the crowd without my best level.
:09:23. > :09:27.Struggling for injuries, Michu had to impress a new manager.
:09:28. > :09:29.How is that playing under him? Did you have a good relationship?
:09:30. > :09:39.Yes. And with Jenkins? Yes. I want to
:09:40. > :11:05.speak about him and he worked really good
:11:06. > :11:13.Maybe when the season finishes might help first iPlayer bit. Back to the
:11:14. > :11:27.Six Nations. What is your highlight? For me it was the first cap. Growing
:11:28. > :11:33.up as a kid wanting to play for Wales then you your ambition.
:11:34. > :11:39.Waiting to go out on the field the motion is amazing. All your friends
:11:40. > :11:46.and family, the adrenaline, the cocktail of the motion is
:11:47. > :11:50.unbelievable. Can you remember it? Yes. Standing there shaking like a
:11:51. > :11:54.leaf and then running out and looking for my mum in the crowd and
:11:55. > :11:58.then singing the anthem with my family and friends there. Then I
:11:59. > :12:04.failed miserably to hold back the tears. Everyone that helped me along
:12:05. > :12:09.my career was there to watch and it was an amazing feeling.
:12:10. > :12:12.She was one of the first Welsh sport stars to book her place
:12:13. > :12:15.at the Olympics this summer, but we're not talking swimming,
:12:16. > :12:19.athletics or cycling here - we're talking shooting.
:12:20. > :12:22.But what drives you to take up gun sports in the first place?
:12:23. > :12:31.Ian Hunt went on a shoot with Elena Allen.
:12:32. > :12:46.I'm going to the Olympics to compete in shooting. I was born in Moscow,
:12:47. > :12:52.Russia. I been living in the UK for the last 25 years. I represented
:12:53. > :12:55.Wales in 2010 for the first time at the Commonwealth champion chips in
:12:56. > :12:59.India and also I competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in
:13:00. > :13:03.2014. Is it a glamorous sport at all?
:13:04. > :13:09.We're sat here and it is freezing cold, were sat outside a Portakabin.
:13:10. > :13:13.It doesn't look glamorous. It's not very glamorous. It is not
:13:14. > :13:17.very often I wear make up either. Especially for you guys. I'm not a
:13:18. > :13:21.girly girl and I don't particularly enjoy make up shopping. I am more a
:13:22. > :13:28.country girl so for me this is perfect.
:13:29. > :13:33.I do Olympic shooting. It is quite a technical sport because we had to
:13:34. > :13:36.shoot from a gun down position. We have not to three seconds delay and
:13:37. > :13:41.when it could eventually comes out, you have to mount the gun and shoot
:13:42. > :13:45.it from eight different stations. You know exactly where it is going
:13:46. > :13:50.to come from. You don't know when it is going to come. And the difficulty
:13:51. > :13:55.is that your gun is down on where the line is. The gun has to touch
:13:56. > :13:57.the latter cannot be above it completely. The targets are fairly
:13:58. > :14:06.fast so you don't have that much time.
:14:07. > :14:10.Russian athletes accused of widespread cheating.
:14:11. > :14:14.They could be banned. Amongst Russia's champions there were
:14:15. > :14:16.cheese. Tonight the Company was kicked out of international
:14:17. > :14:20.athletics in disgrace. You were born in Russia and grew up
:14:21. > :14:27.there as how do you feel about this whole Russian doping scandal?
:14:28. > :14:31.I think it is embarrassing and it is very disappointing. I think anyone
:14:32. > :14:36.who does try to cheat should be punished. Severely punished. Is
:14:37. > :14:40.going to be very sad for those sportsmen and sportswomen who didn't
:14:41. > :14:46.do anything wrong but I going to be punished. I can sympathise. Being a
:14:47. > :14:52.competitor myself. But, of course, I don't know. How do you deal with
:14:53. > :15:14.that? It is not for me to decide. It is for other people to make those
:15:15. > :15:19.decisions. There are number of Welsh sportsmen who are expected to do
:15:20. > :15:24.very well. You are expected to be up there. No pressure. I would like to
:15:25. > :15:30.win or get a medal. You are not going to take part, you're going
:15:31. > :15:35.there to win. I just want to do my best. I want to make my husband and
:15:36. > :15:42.my family proud and get the medal. It is one of the few that I do not
:15:43. > :15:48.have in my collection. You have the World Championships and the
:15:49. > :15:51.Commonwealth Games. I would like this one.
:15:52. > :15:53.Back to the Six Nations, rugby's greatest championship.
:15:54. > :15:56.Year in year out, it gets fans excited and even gets the juices
:15:57. > :16:13.Ian Gough and Dafydd James share a tale or two from the past.
:16:14. > :16:23.Ian Gough keeps his position in the second row for Wales. That the James
:16:24. > :16:30.keeps his place on the right wing. An incredible atmosphere. I remember
:16:31. > :16:35.the old Blancs Road, in the changing room the trains would make the
:16:36. > :16:41.changing room rattled. There was a house on the corner. I have not been
:16:42. > :16:47.very fortunate. We had some bad performances there. It is very
:16:48. > :16:54.difficult when the Irish get the table top. They are a difficult team
:16:55. > :16:59.to play against. However, historically Wales has won the same
:17:00. > :17:03.number of games and drawn the same amount. A different stadium and
:17:04. > :17:09.different atmosphere but it was fantastic. Winning the game helped.
:17:10. > :17:22.Another moment of brilliance from Shane. What is your favourite -- who
:17:23. > :17:32.is your favourite player? The most consistent player for me... I played
:17:33. > :17:37.against him. In the first four or five minutes I had not even got my
:17:38. > :17:41.warm up jacket not properly and figured out who had the jelly
:17:42. > :17:49.babies. I was up against him and I was not prepared as well as the
:17:50. > :17:52.first 15 had prepared. As for myself opposite him several times. If you
:17:53. > :17:57.knew what I was thinking then he wouldn't run it me every time. If
:17:58. > :18:04.you knew how scared I was seaward running me every time. Any moment in
:18:05. > :18:08.the Six Nations the standout to you? In your career or any that you
:18:09. > :18:12.watched? The special moments was when you want into the changing
:18:13. > :18:17.rooms, when you get off the bus and the cameras are there, you're trying
:18:18. > :18:21.to keep your focus that then you realise the magnitude of what you're
:18:22. > :18:25.walking into. You walk into the changing room and you see your shirt
:18:26. > :18:32.on the peg. I get response thinking about it. Millions of people want to
:18:33. > :18:36.do this but only a small number again that opportunity. I used to
:18:37. > :18:44.really enjoy grabbing the jersey. I used to sniff it and think that I
:18:45. > :18:53.had at that. Little moments like that stand out to me. In 1999 we
:18:54. > :18:59.went to France and we had not won there in a number of years and we
:19:00. > :19:10.went there and Neil Jenkins gave me a white pass and I went into the
:19:11. > :19:23.corner. It was an amazing game. My career highlight was the 2008 Grand
:19:24. > :19:26.Slam decider against France. Those girls leading him onto the pitch and
:19:27. > :19:31.the fireworks going off and then we won it, it epic. What matches really
:19:32. > :19:39.spring to mind when you think of the Six Nations? Watching the last year,
:19:40. > :19:45.I thought it was a fantastic tournament. The last day really
:19:46. > :19:52.stood out. It epitomises the Six Nations campaign. It came down to
:19:53. > :20:00.permit issues in the end. I was in Rome at the time. Wales cutlass
:20:01. > :20:15.after 30 minutes and we'll not wild. -- cut loose. -- and we all went
:20:16. > :20:19.wild. Then it was down to permit patients. Other games you could not
:20:20. > :20:29.control. That builds up the euphoria in the air and the web 20 last
:20:30. > :20:34.moments. That is the third try. It just engaged everybody across the
:20:35. > :20:37.nations. What a tournament. Great to reminisce on some of the great
:20:38. > :20:41.moments in wacky moments we have had across the years, and I'm looking
:20:42. > :20:46.forward to catching up with you in Ireland.
:20:47. > :20:59.They enjoyed that. They still have not grown up. We hope that they
:21:00. > :21:09.never do. France versus Italy. Watch and hear? None. Italy performed
:21:10. > :21:15.badly in the World Cup so I would be very surprised if they win any games
:21:16. > :21:23.this year. France's interesting. How will France play? I think they will
:21:24. > :21:30.be less structured and more dangerous and hopefully the flair of
:21:31. > :21:39.the French will come back. It is a big game for England coming up. They
:21:40. > :21:44.have picked a side to attack and to play-the-ball wide. It depends on
:21:45. > :21:54.the conditions. If Scotland can get over the gain line and attack they
:21:55. > :21:58.can pose a real threat. England are going to impress because of Eddie
:21:59. > :22:05.Jones. I have a sneaky feeling that Scotland will win. The best game of
:22:06. > :22:11.the weekend will be Ireland against Wales? It is a huge game. The
:22:12. > :22:19.kicking game is going to be vital. Ireland will kick to the corner is.
:22:20. > :22:24.-- to the corners. Neither side are scared because they play against
:22:25. > :22:27.each other in the Pro12 and they are familiar with each other. They know
:22:28. > :22:32.what they need to do and they know what the opposition is trying to do.
:22:33. > :22:38.It is an intriguing game and a great game, but I feel that Wales,
:22:39. > :22:42.considering perform in the World Cup and their defence, if they can build
:22:43. > :22:48.on that attacking wise they will edge it. The championship is on. If
:22:49. > :22:50.they win that game it will go down to the wire with Wales. Thank you
:22:51. > :22:52.for joining us. Stay tuned for Scrum V Live -
:22:53. > :22:58.Ireland U20 v Wales U20. That is coming up after this
:22:59. > :23:00.programme. And a reminder that we will be
:23:01. > :23:04.on at 7pm next Thursday,
