:00:21. > :00:23.Hello, welcome to a bit of a wet and windy Sport Wales.

:00:24. > :00:25.But this week, we've come to the home town

:00:26. > :00:33.Well a little clue for you - we're in Bridgend.

:00:34. > :00:41.On tonight's show, Aled Sion Davies on winning yet another world title.

:00:42. > :00:49.It's Wales at the ready - Chris Coleman and Joe Allen on

:00:50. > :00:59.This campaign has proved that we can be in it for the long haul.

:01:00. > :01:02.And it's full throttle as we talk rallying and Super Bikes.

:01:03. > :01:08.I'm in a position where I can challenge for the championship and

:01:09. > :01:09.hopefully someone will recognise that sooner rather than later and

:01:10. > :01:12.give me a shot. Next week Sport Wales will be live

:01:13. > :01:15.at the Cardiff City Stadium as Wales face the Netherlands at

:01:16. > :01:18.their first Euro 2016 warm up game. Now one of their key men is

:01:19. > :01:22.Joe Allen, a player we've profiled So we caught up with Joe,

:01:23. > :01:26.delved into the archives and got the latest with life with

:01:27. > :01:48.Liverpool and with Wales. 2007. Our first feature with Joe

:01:49. > :01:53.Allen. He was 17, living in digs and breaking into the Swansea team.

:01:54. > :02:03.I didn't have a clue. The women I stayed with did my stuff for me. I

:02:04. > :02:08.can sort myself out more, get new clothes and don't have to rely on

:02:09. > :02:12.other people. Those days back in Swansea in those

:02:13. > :02:15.digs, loading your washing into the machine. Does that seem like only

:02:16. > :02:18.yesterday or does it seem like an age ago?

:02:19. > :02:24.It seems like only yesterday, to be honest. Time has flown. Good

:02:25. > :02:41.memories from Dicks, still in touch with my Dicks parents. -- digs.

:02:42. > :02:44.How has life changed since then? It is a fine balance between

:02:45. > :02:50.rewarding yourself and your family and your friends but I think staying

:02:51. > :02:54.in the real world and staying grounded really. I've always made a

:02:55. > :03:01.conscious effort to do that. I am a private person by nature anywhere

:03:02. > :03:09.in. I don't tend to live a very flashy lifestyle.

:03:10. > :03:12.2011. He talks to us about his and Swansea's first year in the Premier

:03:13. > :03:16.League and a different shade of red ticket he fancied wearing one day.

:03:17. > :03:22.It has been a good time for me to step up to this level. I feel it is

:03:23. > :03:27.the strongest and best condition I have felt in my whole career.

:03:28. > :03:34.I am a manufacturing. I always have been. -- Manchester United fan.

:03:35. > :03:40.You said it might be nice to play for Manchester United one day. As it

:03:41. > :03:43.turned out, you joined Liverpool for ?15 million. Is that thing you

:03:44. > :03:47.thought it would be? It is the stuff dreams are made.

:03:48. > :03:53.Iran but the first time I played at Anfield, singing you will never walk

:03:54. > :04:03.alone. Moments like that where you sort of... Imagined and visualised.

:04:04. > :04:08.We did finish second, it certainly stands out as a very exciting year

:04:09. > :04:13.and something I will never forget. The man who almost got you to the

:04:14. > :04:16.title has now left the club. How did you feel about Brendan Rodgers's

:04:17. > :04:20.departure? It was very sad to see him go. You

:04:21. > :04:25.mentioned there that he has come so close to bringing that amazing

:04:26. > :04:32.success to the club so it does show you how quick things can change in

:04:33. > :04:35.football but I think we all know that's now. Everyone who is involved

:04:36. > :04:39.in football understand is that it is forever changing and unfortunately

:04:40. > :04:44.that means managers and players will come and go. But that is part and

:04:45. > :04:49.parcel of the game. So what about the new manager? How

:04:50. > :04:52.has it been under him so far? It has been great.

:04:53. > :04:55.Everyone has taken to him straightaway. He is very

:04:56. > :05:00.charismatic. He has got great personality and the passion he has

:05:01. > :05:06.really shines through and I think rubs off on the players so, yeah, it

:05:07. > :05:11.has been so far so good. 2013. 12 months into Joe's career

:05:12. > :05:14.when Chris Coleman and Wales were at a real low point.

:05:15. > :05:18.All the players are really happy with the management. That is not the

:05:19. > :05:23.problem. We are faithful that he will bring a success. We want to see

:05:24. > :05:27.him sign that contract and take us into the next campaign.

:05:28. > :05:30.At that time it was a pretty low ebb for Wales, not qualifying for the

:05:31. > :05:39.World Cup. The transformation since then has been astonishing.

:05:40. > :05:41.Astonishing is a good word. I think in previous campaigns, I think when

:05:42. > :05:47.you first get together and you are about to start it there is that

:05:48. > :05:50.belief them but in previous years it has ebbed away quite quickly. At

:05:51. > :05:56.this campaign, we're just kept ourselves in the running throughout

:05:57. > :05:59.and getting there is an achievement in itself but to be there, to

:06:00. > :06:04.experience it and play in it is the next age and what we all looking

:06:05. > :06:07.forward to. It is not a 1 off. It is not something that is going to come

:06:08. > :06:11.and go in our careers. We're hoping that we can make it something quite

:06:12. > :06:14.regular. Good luck for next week against the

:06:15. > :06:18.Netherlands. Finally, the King at the shot of you down the years and

:06:19. > :06:22.the features we have done. We noticed your hairstyle was pretty

:06:23. > :06:27.consistent. What is with the long hair and the beard this time

:06:28. > :06:30.question mark laziness more than anything else.

:06:31. > :06:35.Is that all it is? It depends what people think of it, really. If there

:06:36. > :06:42.are not positive responses I would say it was not on purpose. If people

:06:43. > :06:44.think I look like a tramp it is time for a change stop I'm not saying

:06:45. > :06:48.people have said that. And we'll have more football later

:06:49. > :06:51.in the programme as Wales boss Chris Coleman tell us all about his plans

:06:52. > :07:03.for both Holland and the Euros. We're very much going into the

:07:04. > :07:06.unknown. There is a lot of speaking with other managers at what can they

:07:07. > :07:08.do. Soon, Wales will have its very own

:07:09. > :07:11.Motor Sports Track, fit for hosting And the way one Welsh rider's

:07:12. > :07:17.performing, we could have a world champion by the time

:07:18. > :07:20.the circuit of Wales is ready. We went to meet Chaz Davies,

:07:21. > :07:36.a man speeding to glory. I've been surrounded by engines all

:07:37. > :07:38.my life. I've seen pictures of me under the steering wheel with my

:07:39. > :07:45.legs stretched out trying to reach the pedal. I just loving the back

:07:46. > :07:48.love riding a motorbike. That is what it is all about.

:07:49. > :07:53.Congratulations on what was a super season. How would you sum it up now

:07:54. > :07:59.you have time to reflect? A mixed bag. We started off the

:08:00. > :08:03.season with two podiums, which was decent, but we went through a little

:08:04. > :08:06.bit of a difficult patch where I thought back we were a little bit

:08:07. > :08:09.behind the ball in terms of development. But then from the

:08:10. > :08:13.middle part of the season till the end it was exactly where we should

:08:14. > :08:17.be, fighting for race wins every weekend and getting a lot of race

:08:18. > :08:21.wins and it is a shame that came a little bit too late. We can have

:08:22. > :08:22.done that with that back in February.

:08:23. > :08:26.You're travelling the world riding a bike for a living, it is was been

:08:27. > :08:29.the job you wanted? Definitely. I do remember having a

:08:30. > :08:35.moment of realisation when I was about 11 or 12 years old remember

:08:36. > :08:39.actually thinking that, that would be really cool. That would be a

:08:40. > :08:41.really nice thing to happen, but I never really thought it would

:08:42. > :08:48.happen. I just love riding a motorbike and that is what it is all

:08:49. > :08:50.about. Here we are, 20 years later, nearly. It's just gone from sense to

:08:51. > :08:54.strength. From a person who has never ridden a

:08:55. > :09:00.bike before, just expend what is super bikes. Where does Super Bikes

:09:01. > :09:04.is it? The Super Bike is more production

:09:05. > :09:09.-based championship, pretty much everything that I can use on my bike

:09:10. > :09:13.is something that anyone can go out and buy whereas you could never do

:09:14. > :09:17.that with different bikes. That is the major difference. Obviously, you

:09:18. > :09:21.have got a name like Valentino Rossi and everyone knows who he is but the

:09:22. > :09:25.riders in Super Bikes, there have been a few bikes allowed crossed

:09:26. > :09:32.over from GP and I think the level is really really high in Super Bike

:09:33. > :09:37.at the minute and I would love to go to GP or to get guys to cross over

:09:38. > :09:42.to Super Bike. Especially a huge name like Valentino Rossi.

:09:43. > :09:46.You had a go at GP, was it something you would like to do in the future?

:09:47. > :09:51.Yeah, definitely. I did a few races in 2007 and got the opportunity to

:09:52. > :09:56.race for them and they were pretty happy with what I did at the time

:09:57. > :10:01.and I am in a position now bracket challenge for the championship and

:10:02. > :10:05.hopefully, somebody will recognise that sooner rather than later and

:10:06. > :10:13.give me a shot with a competitor passage the package.

:10:14. > :10:15.A nice life. Is it like Formula 1? Glamorous parties?

:10:16. > :10:19.I would love to say it is as glamorous as that. It has its

:10:20. > :10:23.moments, for sure. There is nothing negative about it. It has its

:10:24. > :10:29.moments and there are some good events outside the races and think

:10:30. > :10:33.it is all too easy to get caught up in the seriousness of it, which

:10:34. > :10:38.obviously, it is my job and how I make a living, but at the end of the

:10:39. > :10:48.day, it is all fun. And I'm trying to keep it fun on race weekend and

:10:49. > :10:51.outside of race weekend as well. You travel the world and you live in

:10:52. > :10:56.Spain but how did you become friends with some of the Welsh players?

:10:57. > :10:59.It was one of those things, really. I was injured and broke my wrist a

:11:00. > :11:03.few years ago. And after having surgery on it I was looking at the

:11:04. > :11:10.quickest way to try and get back and recover for the next race and I

:11:11. > :11:15.found the clinic was in the Welsh training ground so I just called up

:11:16. > :11:20.and try to see that was possible to get a session in their and it just

:11:21. > :11:23.happened that Scott Williams was in there at the same time and we had a

:11:24. > :11:26.bit of a chat and since then we kept in touch.

:11:27. > :11:39.In the chamber? In boxer shorts and socks.

:11:40. > :11:47.I just finished up at the test track. I saw your line-up for later.

:11:48. > :11:52.Keep him out on the wing. You put a call-out during the recent

:11:53. > :11:56.World Cup? I did. Unfortunately it fell on deaf

:11:57. > :12:01.ears I think. I did not get the call-back that I was hoping for. A

:12:02. > :12:06.bit of a shame, really. If you get bored of the travelling

:12:07. > :12:08.and the jet set lifestyle then Rugby World Cup in four years' time, is

:12:09. > :12:10.it? I better start it in the gym now, I

:12:11. > :12:15.reckon. So here we are in Bridgend,

:12:16. > :12:18.home to one of Wales' top track Now every gold medal winner

:12:19. > :12:24.at London 2012 got one of these - a specially painted post box

:12:25. > :12:40.and since receiving his, Aled Sion I'm here in Cardiff and I'm going to

:12:41. > :12:47.meet an athlete who has been clocking up medals for band since he

:12:48. > :13:01.made his senior debut in 2011. He's got so many medals round his neck.

:13:02. > :13:04.I'm going to call you the Welsh Mr T because you are dripping with gold

:13:05. > :13:07.these days. How are things? It is nice to be

:13:08. > :13:17.home. The weather is a bit more reference refreshing.

:13:18. > :13:23.What do you do in the daytime? I keep my head down. I'm normally out

:13:24. > :13:31.my dog. Enjoying the Welsh countryside. I'm fairly normal, to

:13:32. > :13:34.be honest. This dog is a circuit could take a

:13:35. > :13:37.lot of your time. Everyone says he looks like me but I

:13:38. > :13:44.don't know if that is a compliment. He looks like he's growing a beard.

:13:45. > :13:50.What is that like now that you are a superstar? I call you Captain

:13:51. > :13:54.marvellous. What is that like? What does that feel like when you walk

:13:55. > :13:59.down the street and you recognise? It is very surreal. I don't see

:14:00. > :14:02.myself as anything special. Sports have come along way since I began

:14:03. > :14:08.and I bought was wanted to just change perception of disability

:14:09. > :14:11.sport and if I could be taken as an athlete along the way then that is a

:14:12. > :14:15.bonus and the fact that I could recommend that now was obviously

:14:16. > :14:18.really, really exciting. But it is a long way from where I want to be. I

:14:19. > :14:22.want to be pushing the barriers on my sport and I am all about

:14:23. > :14:26.delivering the performance when it matters and you know would you

:14:27. > :14:27.deliver the performance medals will come and everything else is just a

:14:28. > :14:39.bonus. How many medals have you won since

:14:40. > :14:42.2011? 2011 was my first senior international. Well jabbing chits in

:14:43. > :14:48.New Zealand, winning that, I was 19. I got a silver there. -- the world

:14:49. > :14:53.champ in Gypsy New Zealand, I was 19, I got silver. I got into the

:14:54. > :15:00.discus. -- Championships in New Zealand. I needed to show people I

:15:01. > :15:07.was not a 1 off. What Championships one year later, two gold. And my

:15:08. > :15:12.Commonwealth silver. And two gold medals last week in my third World

:15:13. > :15:18.Championship. Last term. Getting them nicely, slowly. You are

:15:19. > :15:24.breaking world records for fun. What is all that about? Why are you

:15:25. > :15:29.breaking the world record? I am very young in my sport. I have brought a

:15:30. > :15:35.different approach. For years it has been about big, strong guys. Slow. I

:15:36. > :15:39.am nothing like that. I have not got the height and width of these guys.

:15:40. > :15:43.It is about speed and technique and I caught up the big guys quite

:15:44. > :15:48.quickly and overtook them. Next year, Rio de Janeiro, you have got

:15:49. > :15:50.to be excited. Crazy to think it is just ten months away. Feels like

:15:51. > :15:56.yesterday we were talking about London. So much has happened since

:15:57. > :15:59.then. With the disappointment of not defending my discus title, I'm

:16:00. > :16:08.looking forward to fighting for that gold in the shop but. And turning

:16:09. > :16:11.some heads. -- shot put. I am looking forward to putting 100% into

:16:12. > :16:17.the event and saying where I can take it. You are still a young guy.

:16:18. > :16:24.A baby in athletics terms. What does the future hold? I want to chase

:16:25. > :16:28.able-bodied guys. That is my aspirations. Chase able-bodied

:16:29. > :16:32.standards and get into the indoor British Championships this year. It

:16:33. > :16:38.would be nice to be poaching for medals next year. I hope I can do

:16:39. > :16:42.Rio, 2017 World Championships and Japan. I said I will go as long as I

:16:43. > :16:48.am healthy and enjoying it and winning! I hope to find sure belly

:16:49. > :16:51.is still burning for many years to come and wish you all the best.

:16:52. > :16:56.Cheers, buddy. Thanks for coming out this morning. I know, I do not like

:16:57. > :17:01.the cold. You have dragged me out today. It is colourful! It is that

:17:02. > :17:04.time of year again. It's that time of year again

:17:05. > :17:07.Wales Rally GB is upon us and this year's race holds huge significance

:17:08. > :17:27.for one Welshman in particular. It is that element of speed and

:17:28. > :17:44.adrenaline rush which we all love and just accept the risk.

:17:45. > :17:57.Rallying. For many it is in the blood. Co-driving was the passion of

:17:58. > :18:01.others Dai Roberts and Gareth. It does not matter what happens in

:18:02. > :18:03.life, you have got to go and do it because it is a way of life at the

:18:04. > :18:18.end of the day. No matter where we were, if he was

:18:19. > :18:22.in some place you would always phoned me and say how are you

:18:23. > :18:25.getting on and buys her serve. The biggest part is getting on and

:18:26. > :18:31.making sure you were fine on the rally. We do not see a danger. At

:18:32. > :18:36.the end of the day, you are in a car and you are there to do a job. 300

:18:37. > :18:40.foot drop on your left hand side, you do not see it. You are there to

:18:41. > :18:46.drive on the road and that is it, purposely. In 2011 Wales Rally GB,

:18:47. > :18:54.Gareth was crowned world Academy champion with Craig Breen. He would

:18:55. > :18:58.never compete in the rally again. He certainly did have the ability to go

:18:59. > :19:02.a lot further. They were on the road to success with Craig, and his

:19:03. > :19:11.driver. Given time it could have happened. I actually had the phone

:19:12. > :19:17.call saying what had happened. And having to phone mum and dad. Good

:19:18. > :19:21.evening. Tributes have been paid to a rising Welsh star in motor

:19:22. > :19:26.rallying, who has been killed in an event in Italy. It has been a

:19:27. > :19:30.struggle at times. The way we see it, he would never want us to stop

:19:31. > :19:35.doing anything and would always push you to carry on in life. That is

:19:36. > :19:38.what we keep doing. At the end of the day, if we had stopped doing

:19:39. > :19:43.anything, he would be on your case. That is what we have done. He was

:19:44. > :19:50.soon back in action with Timothy Cathcart. But in this sport, term of

:19:51. > :19:55.the -- danger is never far away. We went to go and prove a point. On the

:19:56. > :20:04.third stage, the car was not handling over bumps and we lost

:20:05. > :20:08.control in excess of 100, 110 mph. I felt it a bit in the lower back and

:20:09. > :20:12.they cut the kidney open. At the scene of the accident, I got out of

:20:13. > :20:16.the car myself and you do what you can for yourself and then I did not

:20:17. > :20:21.realise till afterwards that my team-mate sadly losses life. After

:20:22. > :20:26.my accident last year, people started asking questions again.

:20:27. > :20:30.Would you go back? It does not matter with dad, my partner, Louise,

:20:31. > :20:35.does not matter what happens, she would always say, you would not be

:20:36. > :20:39.you if you did not go back. The passion to do it is greater than any

:20:40. > :20:47.other rescue wants to take. He is outcompeting again. It sums up

:20:48. > :20:57.exactly why we are all as mad and as in the UCS tick as we are. -- in the

:20:58. > :21:01.UCS tick. It is the same as people that want to go skydiving. They

:21:02. > :21:07.would get a buzz out of that but I go nowhere near it.

:21:08. > :21:10.Chris Coleman has just 216 days until Euro 2016 gets underway

:21:11. > :21:12.and the preparations really do start when Wales take on the

:21:13. > :21:15.Netherlands next week, a game you can watch here live on BBC Wales.

:21:16. > :21:41.Chris, welcome to Sport Wales. Good to see you again. Tell me how you

:21:42. > :21:45.have enjoyed the last three weeks since qualifying. How have you

:21:46. > :21:50.reflected on it? Initially it was a bit surreal. The fact that we had

:21:51. > :21:56.waited so long to qualify and actually did it. After the Andorra

:21:57. > :22:02.game, four, five days, I was laid up, I have lost my voice. We were

:22:03. > :22:08.working so hard trying to achieve the goal and when we finally did it,

:22:09. > :22:14.I got back home and it was like... I was laid up, for three, four days.

:22:15. > :22:18.You could not celebrate... I thought I would get back and have some games

:22:19. > :22:23.of golf and take the wife out for a nice bite to eat and glass of wine

:22:24. > :22:28.and naturally none of that happened. How preparations going for France?

:22:29. > :22:34.We have got to get it right. Going on past experience, obviously. It is

:22:35. > :22:39.into the unknown. Speaking to other managers and coaches that have been

:22:40. > :22:42.there, I asked what did they do. You cannot plan properly until the draw

:22:43. > :22:47.on the 12 of December. Until you know who you are playing and where

:22:48. > :22:51.you are going to play. Absolutely. We have got the Holland game coming

:22:52. > :22:56.next week. The next camp will be March. Another friendly. We will

:22:57. > :23:01.know what group we are in them. That will be a more in-depth meeting of

:23:02. > :23:05.what the summer will hold for us. Looking at your squad list. Two big

:23:06. > :23:11.names conspicuous by their absence, Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale. Aaron

:23:12. > :23:14.Ramsey first, the Arsenal manager was accused of taking a cheap shot

:23:15. > :23:24.at Wales and showing lack of respect towards you. He can call me up. I

:23:25. > :23:30.have not got a problem. The job is hard enough as a manager. Without

:23:31. > :23:35.having a chip at each other. Especially a cheap shot, which is

:23:36. > :23:39.what it was common his comments. Firstly, that commerce Ocean should

:23:40. > :23:46.have been between him and me, in private. -- conversation. I am

:23:47. > :23:50.talking about it now because he took it away from that. When you start

:23:51. > :23:55.speaking publicly, the accommodation is out. Maybe was overloaded a

:23:56. > :24:03.little bit with games. -- conversation is out. Ideally, I

:24:04. > :24:07.think he would have played against Andorra because they were qualified.

:24:08. > :24:11.But unfortunately I could not decide that. He mentions Gareth Bale, which

:24:12. > :24:21.has nothing to do with him, whatsoever. Thirdly, if you look at

:24:22. > :24:25.all the facts, the problem lies with Arsenal, not ourselves. We said a

:24:26. > :24:29.fit player back to play for Arsenal. We had no word, no correspondence

:24:30. > :24:36.from Arsenal saying he can play in both games. Hence why he played in

:24:37. > :24:41.both games. Had we had worked from Arsenal, had he called me up like he

:24:42. > :24:44.did Roy Hodgson to talk about Theo Walcott, I promise you I would have

:24:45. > :24:49.said, I understand and I would have made sure I did not play him of 90

:24:50. > :24:54.minutes. That call did not take place because he never bothered

:24:55. > :24:58.calling me up. Gareth Bale, were you under any pressure from Real Madrid

:24:59. > :25:02.not to pick him for this friendly? Pressure, no. They never put me and

:25:03. > :25:09.us under pressure and said, you are not having Gareth Bale. They have

:25:10. > :25:13.been fantastic. Talking of Gareth, also, he is a Real Madrid player and

:25:14. > :25:18.he wants to do well for Real Madrid. He is proud to play for Madrid and

:25:19. > :25:22.he wants to win things there. If he had came into this camp he would

:25:23. > :25:26.have been at risk. That is not a risk we want to take. In terms of

:25:27. > :25:30.the squad, some new names and players. And I imagine they are

:25:31. > :25:38.saying, give me a game, gaffer. Is this a chance for plan B, C, D,

:25:39. > :25:43.whatever, to experiment? We have a strong squad. We will be given one

:25:44. > :25:52.or two players, we will give them playing time, a first match, maybe.

:25:53. > :25:57.But if I am honest with you we look at where we want to be competing,

:25:58. > :26:02.here. There is still Holland. It is still going to be a tough game. It

:26:03. > :26:06.is a match we want to do well in. Hope you enjoy the night, Chris. Do

:26:07. > :26:14.not get poorly afterwards. Enjoy it. Thank you. You can watch Wales
