:00:24. > :00:29.Good evening. Weir at Royal Porthcawl, home of the Senior Open

:00:29. > :00:34.in 2014, and with the likes of Colin Montgomerie and Vijay Singh

:00:34. > :00:39.cunning 50 before then, we will be looking for some of the best

:00:39. > :00:44.golfers playing here. Tonight, stay with us as we catch up with some of

:00:44. > :00:49.our best golfers in Catalonia qualifying for the European tour.

:00:49. > :00:52.That and plenty more on tonight's Sport Wales coming up, we bid

:00:52. > :01:01.farewell to the autumn internationals.

:01:01. > :01:08.Bruising, brittle, battered. I wasn't sure for definite if I had

:01:08. > :01:14.scored, my head was in the ground. We look at the role of psychology

:01:14. > :01:20.in top-class sport. I think successful schools coaching

:01:20. > :01:27.forms part of what the coaches and the athlete's want to get the very

:01:27. > :01:33.best outcome. -- skills coaching. Plus we meet at Swansea City

:01:33. > :01:37.goalkeeper at Gerhard Tremmel, and wrote Wrexham's player shares has

:01:37. > :01:42.plans for life after football. First, to rugby, and as the dust

:01:42. > :01:47.settled on a disastrous autumn campaign, Wales were left lost in

:01:47. > :01:51.more ways than one. Four morale- sapping defeats, a tumble down the

:01:51. > :01:56.rankings leading to a place in the World Cup Group of Death, and a

:01:56. > :02:01.string of nasty injuries. But, as the Heineken Cup resumes, there is

:02:01. > :02:06.little time to reflect. It was a sickening case of deja vu

:02:06. > :02:10.for Wales as their latest tussle with the Wallabies ended in a last

:02:10. > :02:17.gasp of defeat. And Wales have done it again. When

:02:17. > :02:23.the game was there to be one, they have handed it back to Australia.

:02:23. > :02:27.By a heart Biggs soon gave way to fear. -- heartbreaks soon gave way.

:02:27. > :02:30.The Leigh Halfpenny lot to himself into a kamikaze tackle and failed

:02:30. > :02:34.to get up. Many feared the worst, but

:02:34. > :02:39.thankfully he has been given the all-clear and will be back in

:02:39. > :02:46.action in six weeks. I was worried to move in case it

:02:46. > :02:49.was anything to do with my neck or anything. The physios brought the

:02:49. > :02:55.stretcher on, but it was a precautionary procedure more than

:02:55. > :03:00.anything. Obviously we had to take all the measures do make sure it

:03:00. > :03:07.did not cause any more damage. I was not sure whether Australia had

:03:07. > :03:13.scored or not. I was conscious, so I was aware of the atmosphere in

:03:13. > :03:18.the crowd. It was not until I got into the medical room and the

:03:18. > :03:24.assessed me and stuff, I asked them if we had lost, and they said, V

:03:24. > :03:28.one, and it was devastating again. I know your mother struggles to

:03:28. > :03:31.watch you anyway, normally through her fingers. What was she like

:03:31. > :03:34.after your injury? I cannot imagine what she was like

:03:34. > :03:39.in the stadium, probably trying to get out of there as soon as

:03:40. > :03:45.possible. When she saw me in hospital she started crying a bit

:03:45. > :03:49.and things, but it was a relieved I think to see I was OK.

:03:49. > :03:52.Now that a week has passed, and you have had time to reflect, how do

:03:52. > :04:00.you assess Wales over the last four weeks.

:04:00. > :04:05.A we want to give 100%, and if you're wearing that jersey, when

:04:05. > :04:13.you come off the field and you have not won the game, it is the worst

:04:13. > :04:17.feeling ever. You start to doubt yourself, you know, your confidence

:04:17. > :04:23.starts to go. You're wondering when it the next when will come. Your

:04:24. > :04:28.last victory in any shirt was Wales against France in March. That is a

:04:28. > :04:38.record you will be desperate to shake off. Definitely. It is

:04:38. > :04:44.difficult, you know. It is hard to take. My last when there is one of

:04:45. > :04:50.the best moment of my life, it is a great memory, but I am searching

:04:50. > :04:57.for that next win. -- my last when is one of the best moment.

:04:57. > :05:04.We also's momentum saw them drop into the third tour of the World

:05:04. > :05:13.Cup and they found themselves in the so-called Group of Death.

:05:13. > :05:17.-- Wales's momentum. We're going in to a tough pool, and

:05:17. > :05:24.a huge challenge for us. Will every England game, if it is

:05:24. > :05:27.possible, have an extra spice, and extra significance. It will always

:05:28. > :05:36.be full on, the one in the Six Nations was probably one of the

:05:36. > :05:41.most physical games I have probably played in. That just shows the

:05:41. > :05:44.hunger and the rivalry between both teams. I am sure it will be no

:05:44. > :05:48.different. At tension now turns to Europe as

:05:48. > :05:52.the Blues attempt to reignite their Heineken Cup campaign. They are

:05:52. > :05:57.bottom of the pool after two rounds and know nothing but a win will do

:05:57. > :06:01.against Montpellier. It is physicality, especially up

:06:01. > :06:09.front, they have a huge pack and I am sure the boys will be fired up

:06:09. > :06:16.for it. The way the crowd is, it is unbelievable, it gives you a real

:06:16. > :06:22.buzz. I know the boys will be dying to get out there and putting on a

:06:22. > :06:25.performance for the girls Park crowd and for us. -- for the Park

:06:25. > :06:29.crowd. That we wish the regions all the

:06:30. > :06:35.best for this weekend. 2012 has been a great ear for many

:06:35. > :06:38.sports in Wales, but that cannot be said for Welsh golf. Last week, the

:06:38. > :06:44.likes of Reece Davis and Bradley Dredge had one last chance to keep

:06:44. > :06:48.their place on the European Tour. Sport Wales went to Spain to see

:06:48. > :06:53.how they got on. Jamie de Olsen has enjoyed his best

:06:53. > :06:59.ever season. It has been ideal of war for Wales's best golfers.

:06:59. > :07:02.Donaldson ended his career on a high ranking of 47, but for the

:07:03. > :07:06.rights of Rhys Davis, Bradley Davies, all winners under -- in the

:07:06. > :07:11.past, this has been a year of disappointment with them losing

:07:11. > :07:16.their card for next year. There was a final throw of the dice. They

:07:16. > :07:21.attempted to win back their playing right spike computing at the Q

:07:21. > :07:24.School qualifying tournament in the cattle and we chat -- Catalan

:07:24. > :07:29.region of Spain. It is hard, the nerves get frayed

:07:29. > :07:33.and it is a tough grind for them to come here.

:07:33. > :07:37.It gives you an opportunity to do something. It opens the door, and

:07:37. > :07:43.it is up to you to perform on the main stage.

:07:43. > :07:48.156 hopefuls competed over the opening four romance with the top

:07:48. > :07:52.70 ties competing to play the final holes of the competition. Only at

:07:52. > :08:01.the end of a gruelling six rounds would the 25 p awarded full playing

:08:01. > :08:09.rights on the tour for 2014. All of Wales's golfers were in contention

:08:09. > :08:19.by the ancient -- end of day three. Liam Bond was struggling to take --

:08:19. > :08:21.

:08:21. > :08:27.Bradley Dredge is behind be on the first tee.

:08:27. > :08:33.Round four, he has a team to make the cut and save his career. -- 18

:08:33. > :08:36.to make the cut. The two bogeys in his first two

:08:36. > :08:40.Michaels left him with a lot to do, and a final score of four over par

:08:40. > :08:49.was not good enough and his 13 consecutive years on the tour came

:08:49. > :08:58.The tis there, but unfortunately for Bradley it is too little, too

:08:58. > :09:02.late, he will not be on the circuit We tried to ask about his future...

:09:02. > :09:06.That I don't want to say the wrong thing.

:09:06. > :09:12.While Bradley Dredge made a sharp exit, Rhys Davis was looking good

:09:12. > :09:15.to pick his place in the final two days, at two under par. But a

:09:15. > :09:19.disastrous round including four bogeys and a double bogey meant he

:09:19. > :09:25.had little chance of making it either as he walked down the final

:09:25. > :09:30.hole. Yes, a winner, but he is a loser of

:09:30. > :09:34.this season. He will return home, he is just too good.

:09:34. > :09:38.What has gone wrong in the last couple of months?

:09:38. > :09:43.It is a good question, I am not really sure. It is utterly not my

:09:43. > :09:46.dedication or desire to do well, it is just not been very good golf.

:09:46. > :09:51.Where do you go now? I honestly do not know at the

:09:51. > :09:54.moment. In some ways it might help me, give myself a little break from

:09:54. > :10:00.the game. I have put a lot in in the last few years and sometimes

:10:00. > :10:04.giving more is not always the right thing. A little break might help me.

:10:04. > :10:08.It is a bit of a blip in a long career. It is not very nice, feels

:10:08. > :10:16.horrible, no doubt about it, but yeah, it is one of those things we

:10:16. > :10:20.have to deal with. It was left to the 2005 World Cup

:10:20. > :10:24.winner Stephen Dodd to carried Welsh hopes. His score of 68 left

:10:24. > :10:29.him on one under par and safety in to the last few days of qualifying.

:10:29. > :10:34.Are you confident? Certain aspects of my game I am pretty confident,

:10:34. > :10:40.but there are other areas I am struggling in, so libel tried to

:10:40. > :10:44.work and see how that pans out for the next two days. -- I will try.

:10:44. > :10:48.He knew that another sub-par performance would move him up the

:10:49. > :10:53.lead report to the all-important 25. Three birdies and one dropped shot

:10:53. > :10:59.in 16 holes placed him in a good position, but a bogey on the 17th

:10:59. > :11:06.meant by eat the final hole he was two under par.

:11:06. > :11:09.That is not a pleasing result. Stephen Dodd for a bogey, good

:11:09. > :11:19.Stephen Dodd for a bogey, good lighting, but it is not there, it

:11:19. > :11:22.

:11:22. > :11:26.is a double bogey. The source As morning broke, the better

:11:26. > :11:30.weather conditions give fresh hope ahead of the last day.

:11:31. > :11:34.Stephen Dodd is going through his final preparations ahead of his

:11:34. > :11:39.sixth-round. He is currently level par to make the place on the

:11:39. > :11:45.European Tour. He has to go five on the or more. He has a lot to do

:11:45. > :11:49.today to win back his card. He never looked like picking up the

:11:49. > :11:53.shots he had carelessly thrown away. A run of five drop shots in his

:11:53. > :11:59.first nine holes meant he finished on three over par.

:11:59. > :12:03.I a quick word, Steven? Well, sorry I have a flight.

:12:03. > :12:07.As he flew off, John Parry charged into the lead, the Englishman

:12:07. > :12:16.winning with an impressive 19 under par, gaining his place back on the

:12:16. > :12:19.What does it mean when you see the likes of reset Davies, Bradley

:12:19. > :12:25.Dredge, they have all won and have gone home early?

:12:25. > :12:29.Are it shows how strong the standard is now. You only have to

:12:29. > :12:32.be a little of your game and you will get found out. You will miss

:12:32. > :12:37.the cut, and I think we have all been there when the standard is

:12:37. > :12:42.that strong. What a disappointing week it has been. None of the four

:12:42. > :12:45.Welshman have made it out. Next year, only Jamie Donaldson and

:12:45. > :12:50.Phillip Price will play on the European Tour.

:12:50. > :12:55.For football now, and when Swansea City face Norwich tomorrow they

:12:55. > :12:59.will be hoping to extend as seven- game unbeaten run, included women -

:12:59. > :13:03.- including wins over Liverpool, Newcastle and last weekend's

:13:04. > :13:09.fantastic victory at Arsenal. But, while the forward players grab all

:13:09. > :13:13.the headlines, what about the last line of defence? Ian Hunt has been

:13:13. > :13:17.speaking to a man who is happy, like so many goalkeepers, to stand

:13:17. > :13:21.out from the rest. He do not have to be mad to work

:13:21. > :13:27.between the posts, it just seems to be that we sometimes. Bravado,

:13:27. > :13:32.bravery, eccentricity - anything to ease the loneliness of the job. A

:13:32. > :13:39.caricature that seems to fit Swansea's custodian, who has been

:13:40. > :13:44.starring in the absence of Michelle Bond. -- Michel von.

:13:44. > :13:51.Off the pitch I am very grounded. On the pitch, I am a bit different,

:13:51. > :13:55.I think. He won a new light on the pitch?

:13:55. > :14:02.I just want to win. At your team-mates are not working

:14:02. > :14:07.good enough, you cannot run out and just tackle someone, and that is

:14:07. > :14:15.where aggression comes into you sometimes. That is why, in some

:14:15. > :14:20.situations, we just... Goalkeeper is our own position. Of course, it

:14:20. > :14:29.is part of the team, but I think they are a bit on their own

:14:29. > :14:33.sometimes. A special position, Your time in this side has

:14:33. > :14:38.coincided with some of the most impressive results Swansea have

:14:38. > :14:44.ever achieved. You cannot dream or write it down like that, maybe.

:14:44. > :14:50.Liverpool was special, definitely special. But the Arsenal win as

:14:50. > :14:56.well, where we performed really good. The thing is that we actually

:14:56. > :15:01.desert the results we got. So it was not likely if just had the luck.

:15:01. > :15:05.There is a shot a view on Match of the day just punching the air. What

:15:05. > :15:09.is going through your head? If it comes to a game like Arsenal, or

:15:09. > :15:14.the big teams, and to win one of these, this means so much for them

:15:14. > :15:17.and I was just have before the team. When Michel Vorm picked up the

:15:17. > :15:22.injury, a part of you will be thinking, I feel sorry for him, but

:15:22. > :15:27.another part, it refers part, must be thinking this is the chance. --

:15:27. > :15:33.a ruthless part. It was always my dream to come over to England but I

:15:33. > :15:36.felt I didn't have my opportunities to show myself. So this year, a

:15:36. > :15:41.couple of things changed and I am very happy that I can play a couple

:15:41. > :15:46.of games. At 34, Gerhard Tremmel has spent most of his career in his

:15:46. > :15:50.native Germany. What else can we learned about the man from Munich?

:15:50. > :15:56.How many different ways to people pronounce your name? In France, it

:15:56. > :16:05.is different, in England it is different, in Italy, different.

:16:05. > :16:10.did you dream of playing for? How would you describe yourself?

:16:10. > :16:16.Efficient, grounded and ambitious. The craziest character in the

:16:16. > :16:23.Swansea dressing room. Leroy Lita. I love him, but he is later. David

:16:23. > :16:27.Hasselhoff or the scorpions? Neither of them! Karaoke Song?

:16:27. > :16:34.a bad singer. A what will you do when you retire? Laid-back, put my

:16:34. > :16:38.feet up and left my wife work. How could the manager now leave you

:16:38. > :16:45.out of the side and how would you feel, how would you cope if that

:16:45. > :16:50.happens? I know that I'm going to play our the weekend again -- at

:16:50. > :16:53.the weekend again. And that is what am focusing on, try to do my best

:16:53. > :16:58.again and helping the team to get a result and keep the momentum going.

:16:58. > :17:04.Of course, it will be very disappointing. We have tweeted a

:17:04. > :17:08.few fans of Swansea to ask what their observations might be, and

:17:08. > :17:13.players. Danny Graham says you might -- always been a horrible

:17:13. > :17:19.satchel to training. A I guess it has got what everyone has their in

:17:19. > :17:23.their man back, Keys and wallets. have two phones, one for Germany

:17:23. > :17:28.and one for England. By Keys, my passport. What is strange for me is

:17:28. > :17:32.they are all tweeting. If we go out for lunch, everybody is sitting at

:17:32. > :17:37.the table with their telephones of. I n used to having a chat with the

:17:37. > :17:44.boys and they are all tweeting -- I am used to. I feel like, what am I

:17:44. > :17:48.doing here? I Kenny's by myself next time! -- I can eat by myself.

:17:48. > :17:53.That is maybe the next generation already. Maybe I should get used to

:17:53. > :17:59.it and start tweeting as well, but... The last sounding like an

:17:59. > :18:04.old man now. Then queue. Thank you. -- thank you. In these moments, I

:18:04. > :18:07.feel like it. And that looked to Gerhard Tremmel

:18:07. > :18:11.and Swansea City against Norwich tomorrow. -- good luck. Now to

:18:11. > :18:16.something that plays a part in every sport, psychology. In the

:18:16. > :18:20.wake of the Welsh rugby team's for displays in the Autumn

:18:20. > :18:24.Internationals, that poor displays in the Autumn Internationals, much

:18:24. > :18:34.of the media focus has been on the psychological side of the game. We

:18:34. > :18:44.

:18:44. > :18:48.have been looking at the influence This is the inner sanctum, where

:18:48. > :18:52.games are truly won and lost. Those final moments alone with your

:18:53. > :19:01.demons, confidence, nervousness, and self-doubt all rush in and out

:19:01. > :19:04.Sport psychology has been around in the written form for about 100

:19:05. > :19:10.years and ever since there has been sporting competition, people have

:19:10. > :19:13.been interested in the mental side of sport. I think if you look back

:19:13. > :19:17.perhaps to London 2012, you will have had more elite athletes from

:19:17. > :19:22.around the world working with sports psychologist and skills

:19:22. > :19:25.coaches than ever before in history. I was pretty down at the last week,

:19:25. > :19:30.I didn't leave the flat at all. I thought I should get some help,

:19:30. > :19:34.sort it out. So I have started seeing the sports psychiatrist, who

:19:34. > :19:38.we started sing during the World Cup. It doesn't help himself by

:19:38. > :19:44.saying he is not playing with confidence, I am not happy, I am

:19:44. > :19:48.staying in the House. Front up, toughen up. I would like to think

:19:48. > :19:51.that people would start to see the role of the sports psychologist or

:19:51. > :19:56.psychiatrist in a very positive way, because we are not there to try and

:19:56. > :19:59.brainwash people, we are trying to help them like any coach would do.

:19:59. > :20:03.Traditionally, if you see a psychiatrist, you would expect to

:20:03. > :20:07.be unwell and there is a stigma around that. It is time we matured

:20:07. > :20:11.as a City, so I am hoping things will turn eventually into a

:20:11. > :20:14.positive light for sports psychology and psychiatry. As you

:20:15. > :20:23.enter the arena, you are still protected from outside influence.

:20:23. > :20:27.From your opponent, from the crowd, but not from yourself. It is quite

:20:27. > :20:29.a long period of time, it feels like a long period of time as a

:20:29. > :20:34.player, when you are in the changing room. You are pretty

:20:35. > :20:37.pumped up and then you listen to the anthem, which is a national and

:20:38. > :20:42.you are trying to keep your emotions can't -- which is

:20:42. > :20:45.emotional. It can be quite difficult which is why I sometimes

:20:46. > :20:50.don't sing the anthem. Not because I don't want to but because it

:20:50. > :20:54.helps me concentrate, I like to listen and stay focused. It all

:20:54. > :20:57.helps with different ways and you want to make sure that that five-

:20:57. > :21:02.minute period when you live the changing rooms and go to kick off,

:21:02. > :21:07.that your mental state stays the same. -- leave the changing rooms.

:21:07. > :21:12.You can just block something out. It is all about you and what you

:21:12. > :21:16.can do, and what the Australians or the Kiwis or the Danish, it is not

:21:16. > :21:20.going to affect our riding. We just go out there and do what we know we

:21:20. > :21:24.can do, and that is our best. Anything more and they deserve to

:21:24. > :21:30.win. The most nerve-racking bit is probably waiting in those shares.

:21:30. > :21:33.That is when you get a bit nervous and that is when you are prone to

:21:33. > :21:40.coming out of that little Babel you are in, the zone as people call it.

:21:40. > :21:46.That is when you just keep going over and over and visualising the

:21:46. > :21:52.ride, and not go out and enjoy it. Sometimes it is quite hard to do

:21:52. > :21:56.that when it is that intense and you want to win that much. You are

:21:56. > :21:59.not there for a laugh, you want to go out there and do a job.

:22:11. > :22:15.he approached me for help in understanding his emotions in mind,

:22:15. > :22:21.on and off the pitch. He had difficulties with aggression at the

:22:25. > :22:29.public about working with me, although he did, he was very open,

:22:29. > :22:34.was for two reasons. One was that they may suddenly attached this

:22:34. > :22:37.stigma, something is wrong with his head, when actually it was a very

:22:37. > :22:40.mature thing for him to do and there was certainly nothing wrong

:22:40. > :22:45.with him. The second reason is there a Sunday is that no matter

:22:49. > :22:54.that that is the point where the public or press may point the

:23:30. > :23:35.right in front of them. For others, they defer thinking about that for

:23:44. > :23:49.and loses the by Chris on the day. Physically, you haven't changed,

:23:49. > :23:52.you are in the best shape possible -- wins and loses the race. The

:23:57. > :24:04.So many thoughts can empty your mind, like what if I fail? Being

:24:13. > :24:17.what about Wrexham's wish for promotion from the Blue Square

:25:08. > :25:12.Yes, the worst pain I have felt for sure. And you took it as a man?

:25:12. > :25:16.really, there was a nice little squeal. I knew it was a beer and

:25:16. > :25:20.there was damage. I didn't know exactly how much -- I knew it was

:25:20. > :25:26.severe. At first, we thought it might be media will damage and that

:25:26. > :25:30.is what we were praying for, or six to eight weeks -- media all. But

:25:30. > :25:35.having the scans, it looked like we have done an awful lot more. The

:26:59. > :27:03.got the best. On the pitch, have you missed him? Of course, I think

:27:03. > :27:07.glasses and he was one of our best players, strong that the back. --

:27:07. > :27:12.last season he was. We had a strong defence and at first, we were doing

:27:12. > :27:15.all right, but if you look at the last six weeks, we have been

:27:15. > :27:20.shipping goals and having a few injuries which hasn't helped but

:27:20. > :27:25.when you have got someone like him at the back, missing him for what

:27:25. > :27:30.will be the whole season, his is a big blow. Looking at this season,
