:00:21. > :00:29.Coming up: after the draw in Dublin, Wales will hope to get back to
:00:30. > :00:33.winning ways against the Scots. If you go into a game against Scotland,
:00:34. > :00:38.you think you will have to be there to win the game and you will come up
:00:39. > :00:46.short. Can Robert Croft get Glamorgan back on song? I will be
:00:47. > :00:52.trying to achieve more as a coach. Christian Malcolm catches up with an
:00:53. > :00:55.old friend. It was fantastic and something I will always look back
:00:56. > :01:03.on, one of the highlights of my career. Welcome to the programme,
:01:04. > :01:09.that was a stormy old week. Wild weather in Wales and pretty eventful
:01:10. > :01:16.in Dublin as well. Brutal and compromising, but who really wants a
:01:17. > :01:23.draw? No Grand Slam, notable crown on the cards, but the championship
:01:24. > :01:28.is still very much on. -- Triple Crown. For more than two years his
:01:29. > :01:32.has been one of the first names on the team sheet, but after Saturday's
:01:33. > :01:37.early exit it was feared that Dan Biggar would not get better. But his
:01:38. > :01:45.powers of recovery have astonished everyone. After the game we spoke to
:01:46. > :01:52.the medics who thought that the injury was a five-week injury, but
:01:53. > :02:03.the scan came back clear and he has worked really hard. He has made a
:02:04. > :02:08.pretty miraculous recovery. It is a timely boost for Wales and if they
:02:09. > :02:11.need another one, how about this or statistics. Wales have never lost
:02:12. > :02:20.when Warren Gatlin has been in charge. Their Six Nations record
:02:21. > :02:28.under them reads six one and six lost. I would always find it tough.
:02:29. > :02:33.The sides look more settled as we go along. They will be a tough nut to
:02:34. > :02:39.crack. They become a difficult side to beat. If Welsh fans expect us to
:02:40. > :02:44.roll away, it will not be, it would be a tough game. The Scots will have
:02:45. > :02:53.tough memories of their last game, one reckless challenge ended the
:02:54. > :02:58.game. That is a red card offence. The remaining team-mates were unable
:02:59. > :03:03.to stop the advancing red tide. Wales crossed the line seven times
:03:04. > :03:11.to record their biggest ever Six Nations win, but they say it will be
:03:12. > :03:18.of little significance this weekend. It is always a close game. As I
:03:19. > :03:22.said, we know we need to start the game in motion the better this week
:03:23. > :03:31.after Ireland, the first 20 minutes we were half asleep. We cannot
:03:32. > :03:37.afford to do that this week. Dan Biggar's recovery means that Warren
:03:38. > :03:42.Gatland can have a clear side. George North will be on the wings.
:03:43. > :03:46.Jonathan Davies wins his 50th cap and extends his record-breaking
:03:47. > :03:53.championship with Jamie Roberts. Gareth Roberts resumes his
:03:54. > :04:01.partnership with Dan Biggar. Upfront, Evans is holding off the
:04:02. > :04:06.challenge. Alun Wyn Jones is even closer to his century of caps. It is
:04:07. > :04:10.the same with Sam Warburton remaining on the blindside and
:04:11. > :04:15.Justin Tipuric on the other side. It will be a fast and open game. We
:04:16. > :04:21.have a game plan and we want to play a bit more. We have said that.
:04:22. > :04:26.Firstly we want to make sure we get in the game, get points on the
:04:27. > :04:31.board. If it does loosen up and we are chasing tries to win the game,
:04:32. > :04:35.that is what you have to do. It is a measure of how far Wales have come
:04:36. > :04:40.that they are disappointed to draw in Dublin. Cast your minds back to
:04:41. > :04:45.2013, Wales lost to Ireland on the opening weekend and still won the
:04:46. > :04:51.tournament. The grand slam may be out of reach, but the championship
:04:52. > :04:56.is still on. I am delighted to say that I am joined by Rhys Webb, you
:04:57. > :05:02.were injured just before the World Cup and you are just about ready to
:05:03. > :05:07.get back on the field. How does that feel? I am excited, it is like
:05:08. > :05:11.starting school again. It has been a long five months, but the last two
:05:12. > :05:16.or three weeks I have been ready, but I just needed to touch up on
:05:17. > :05:23.some other skills, the fitness and feeling good, feeling sharp, excited
:05:24. > :05:25.to do well this weekend. Have you parked to one side your
:05:26. > :05:32.international aspirations that the Six Nations? Yes, my focus is on the
:05:33. > :05:42.Ospreys, I need to earn my stripes there. I have worked hard trying to
:05:43. > :05:45.get that back. Wales draw against Ireland, no one is really satisfied
:05:46. > :05:50.with that, looking ahead to Scotland, what will be the message
:05:51. > :05:56.this week? The main point will be the slow start in the first half and
:05:57. > :06:01.obviously going 30-0 down, that is pretty tough. The message is that we
:06:02. > :06:07.need a good start, they know they cannot have a sloppy start. Just
:06:08. > :06:17.getting off to that good start. Just playing well. Dan Biggar, somehow he
:06:18. > :06:26.is passed fit. He is world class. The other day, he was one of the
:06:27. > :06:32.best World Cup tens. His leadership, the way the team involves around him
:06:33. > :06:37.really. He is a key part of the Welsh success, it is all to do with
:06:38. > :06:42.him. Missing out on the grand slam, does that make any real difference
:06:43. > :06:45.in terms of the team morale? It will be difficult, there are a lot of
:06:46. > :06:50.people in the team who want to win trophies. Two trophies are gone
:06:51. > :06:54.already, but hopefully we can still win the championship, there is no
:06:55. > :06:57.reason why not. There are the coaching staff and the players
:06:58. > :07:05.there, hopefully fingers crossed they can get off to a good win. Stay
:07:06. > :07:10.there, we will catch up later. Now from the road of Wales to the red of
:07:11. > :07:15.Liverpool and Wales has strong links to its football club, Ian Rush, Joey
:07:16. > :07:26.Jones, Craig Bellamy and Joe Allen and now Natasha Harding!
:07:27. > :07:33.This is Anfield, a place where plenty of Welsh heroes have made
:07:34. > :07:36.their name. Tradition, pride, trophies, there is a weight of
:07:37. > :07:41.history when you wear the Liverpool red. I am really excited to join
:07:42. > :07:48.such a great club with such a great history. Meeting my new team-mates,
:07:49. > :07:54.adding new additions, we all have bonded. I am excited, we have the
:07:55. > :08:01.prospect of what we can achieve this year. It is not like I am going to a
:08:02. > :08:04.low-level club, it is huge, it is probably on the same level as
:08:05. > :08:09.Manchester city and probably has more history. The forward move to
:08:10. > :08:12.Manchester city last March when there was a switch in the United
:08:13. > :08:18.States that fell through, then she signed the Merseyside Giants. I was
:08:19. > :08:21.happy, I did not plan on leaving and the opportunity came up with
:08:22. > :08:24.Liverpool and football is a business at the end of the day and I have not
:08:25. > :08:29.really looked back since and I'm happy that I am here now. I'm happy
:08:30. > :08:37.it is all sorted and it is time to move on and get used to my new home.
:08:38. > :08:42.She is a great signing for us, she has a lot of experience, technically
:08:43. > :08:46.a very good player. Very quick and she can play numerous positions over
:08:47. > :08:53.the top line. For us to bring in Natasha it is brilliant. This will
:08:54. > :08:59.galvanise us to do really well and be exciting to watch and hopefully
:09:00. > :09:05.win things. That is one of my best attributes, I am good at winning.
:09:06. > :09:10.Halfway through their Euro 2017 qualifying campaign, Wales have four
:09:11. > :09:14.points from four games. There is still a mathematical chance of
:09:15. > :09:20.making it. I will always say that we can, whether we have one game left
:09:21. > :09:25.and we need to get six points, you always get faith. We have made a bit
:09:26. > :09:30.of a hard job of it and we all know that and Jay knows that as well, it
:09:31. > :09:34.is down to the players. If we can start with Kazakhstan and get a
:09:35. > :09:38.great result there, hopefully that will snowball into an effect we can
:09:39. > :09:42.get results against Austria and Norway. We have those teams to play
:09:43. > :09:49.at home and if we can do the right thing, take all the positives that
:09:50. > :09:52.have been taken from other games and not concede as many goals as we did,
:09:53. > :09:55.it is still possible. You don't have to look too far for inspiration, the
:09:56. > :10:00.male counterparts have not qualified for a tournament in 58 years. I
:10:01. > :10:06.think it is a great achievement from them. It is putting us on the map
:10:07. > :10:10.and the men's team have great individuals and they know how to win
:10:11. > :10:14.as a team and they are a great squad and that is what Chris has
:10:15. > :10:19.implemented. That is what we are trying to inherit, we are not a team
:10:20. > :10:23.of one or two stars, we are a team. I do not get one or two points, my
:10:24. > :10:28.team does. If we can take all the positives than men have used, then I
:10:29. > :10:35.hope we can do the same thing. Like Iain Russell, Dean Saunders, Craig
:10:36. > :10:41.Bellamy, goals at Liverpool often lead to goals in the red of Wales. A
:10:42. > :10:45.legend as a player has now been given the task of bringing the glory
:10:46. > :10:50.days back to the Morgan. How does he plan to go about the job. Sport
:10:51. > :10:57.Wales caught up with Robert Croft as he took training the first time as
:10:58. > :11:10.the county 's head coach. -- for the first time.
:11:11. > :11:18.Congratulations, how long did it take you to say yes to this one? Not
:11:19. > :11:23.long I imagine. I did not finish the sentence! He did not finish the
:11:24. > :11:27.sentence before I said yes. I will have it! Was this always your
:11:28. > :11:32.ultimate goal? Did you always feel it was your destiny? I always had an
:11:33. > :11:38.interest in becoming a coach, yes. It is a dream come true to be a
:11:39. > :11:42.coach of Glamorgan. Did I go out and chase it, no, but it really appealed
:11:43. > :11:46.to me. I believe everything I achieved as a player I worked hard
:11:47. > :11:52.for and double try to do the same as a coach. It was a job that was
:11:53. > :11:56.advertised far and wide and we had applications from far and wide, some
:11:57. > :11:59.coaches who had been in international cricket, some in
:12:00. > :12:05.domestic critics and we whittled it down to rob. He was the best
:12:06. > :12:10.candidate we saw. He has been with us for a coach for four years and
:12:11. > :12:15.shown as what he is capable of. Out on the field and now as a coach. We
:12:16. > :12:25.know him and we know what he will expect of us. He will be putting his
:12:26. > :12:28.stamp on things. You know these figures off by heart, 1997 the last
:12:29. > :12:35.time you won the County Championship. How would you bring an
:12:36. > :12:39.end to the long wait for success? Before we think of championships it
:12:40. > :12:43.is movement from division two. There is a mission statement which is to
:12:44. > :12:48.make Wales proud. We want to make the country proud and we want to do
:12:49. > :12:50.it in the right way. Every time Glamorgan side goes onto the field I
:12:51. > :12:59.want them to be fiercely competitive. When they do play, we
:13:00. > :13:06.want to win more than we lose. Robert Croft in less than a minute,
:13:07. > :13:10.how old are you? I am 46, not yet, 45. When did you make your Glamorgan
:13:11. > :13:29.debut? Number of first-class wickets? 12,880! The number of
:13:30. > :13:32.England appearances. 50 ODIs. Closed irritating team-mate? I would
:13:33. > :13:44.probably say myself. Three words to sum up yourself. A proud, Welsh,
:13:45. > :13:50.man. People know Croft, the player, that was a heck of a long time ago.
:13:51. > :14:00.You mention we won in 97 and I was 27 them. I fell off that passion
:14:01. > :14:04.when I was a player. -- I fed off. I appreciate everybody motivates
:14:05. > :14:07.themselves and likes to go about their job slightly differently.
:14:08. > :14:14.Sometimes less is more. Does that mean you as a coach will be more
:14:15. > :14:19.serious? I guess when you or play a larger EU are interested in when you
:14:20. > :14:24.perform. The captaincy taught me that everyone needs to be happy on
:14:25. > :14:30.their own. -- when you are a player, you are interested in when you
:14:31. > :14:33.perform. He is very firm when he needs to be. As a player that is
:14:34. > :14:37.what you want, you want someone who will pick you up when you are down,
:14:38. > :14:43.but also give you a kick up the backside. What you want the players
:14:44. > :14:51.to call you these days? Crofty is fine. But all I want is respect not
:14:52. > :14:57.just to me but players to each other. Good luck.
:14:58. > :15:06.How would you cope when your professional sporting career is cut
:15:07. > :15:10.short by injury? That happens to Tim Benjamin, one of the finest 400
:15:11. > :15:14.metre runners who was 27 when he had to retire. Stu Malcolm went for a
:15:15. > :15:22.catch up with his old Wales and Great Britain team-mate -- Christian
:15:23. > :15:25.Malcolm. Benjamin Wednesday! He is the
:15:26. > :15:31.Olympic champion. How has life been since he retired? A complete
:15:32. > :15:38.journey. I look back at my career and it feels like I did not do it,
:15:39. > :15:42.like another life. Really different, loving what I am doing now.
:15:43. > :15:48.Completely immersed. Just as much as I was as an athlete. A lot of
:15:49. > :15:52.athletes do not make the successful transition, some of them suffer with
:15:53. > :15:59.depression, whether any times you thought, I wish I was still in the
:16:00. > :16:03.sport? No. I fell out of love with competing, mainly because of the
:16:04. > :16:07.injuries they suffered, my body could not withstand the training and
:16:08. > :16:14.the competition. I was quite numb and I did not enjoy competing, even
:16:15. > :16:20.at a high level. I did one European Championship brace before I retired.
:16:21. > :16:27.Tim Benjamin, coming through superbly, superb!
:16:28. > :16:32.I felt I was not able to fulfil my ambition through athletics. And that
:16:33. > :16:38.was causing me to get down. The second thing is suffered from, which
:16:39. > :16:43.I guess most athletes do, is the identity. What am I, who are my,
:16:44. > :16:47.what I do? It was searching for what I like to call that a personal best
:16:48. > :16:53.feeling. When you cross the line and you feel that... Nothing beats it,
:16:54. > :16:58.you could not be happier. I had to recreate that. So I had to find
:16:59. > :17:05.something to recreate that. I have certainly found that in what I do
:17:06. > :17:16.now. Still got it!
:17:17. > :17:20.I think I could probably lived more weights but in terms of power coming
:17:21. > :17:29.he is better! Power and speed, all day. Anything
:17:30. > :17:34.to do with endurance... What are the highs and lows of your career? The
:17:35. > :17:38.best moment stands out as breaking 45 seconds. Is a prized myself that
:17:39. > :17:43.season and was able to consistently run 44 seconds -- is a prized. New
:17:44. > :17:49.territory and they made a World Championships final, fantastic.
:17:50. > :17:54.Well done, Tim Benjamin, fifth place in the World Championships final.
:17:55. > :17:57.Beating the Olympic champion on home soil who had not been beaten for
:17:58. > :18:02.four years. Tim Benjamin on the near side. And
:18:03. > :18:07.he gets that, he has beaten the Olympic champion. What do you look
:18:08. > :18:12.forward to the most after the Olympic Games? As a British
:18:13. > :18:18.athletics fan, I am really looking forward to having British sprinters.
:18:19. > :18:25.I think we have awesome opportunities for British renting to
:18:26. > :18:32.put themselves on the map. And from a Welsh perspective, is there
:18:33. > :18:35.anybody you have an eye on? As a 400 metre runners, Sarah Davis is doing
:18:36. > :18:41.well. I would love to see how he progresses. I am a big fan. I would
:18:42. > :18:46.love for her to make it onto the plane. Not everybody thinks you were
:18:47. > :18:53.born in Wales because of your accent and it has changed. But you are from
:18:54. > :19:02.Cardiff. Yes, I am from Cardiff. You are Welsh? I am, yes. You are not
:19:03. > :19:07.born in Southampton? No. That is a big thing for me. I am looking at
:19:08. > :19:11.relocating back home as soon as business allows it. I want to bring
:19:12. > :19:20.my family up in Wales. It is important to me and my wife. We are
:19:21. > :19:24.both Welsh and we will be back. Sad news this week with the passing
:19:25. > :19:31.of a Welsh sporting great. John Leslie was born and raised in Wales
:19:32. > :19:33.and he started out as a PE teacher but his talent took him to the
:19:34. > :19:41.bigger stage of them all, the Olympics. I decided to do athletics
:19:42. > :19:47.in 1951 and 1952, worthwhile as I got a Bronze medal in Helsinki.
:19:48. > :19:51.Almost two miles long and a lot of obstacles. It was still a great
:19:52. > :19:56.achievement by one who only took up steeplechasing two years ago.
:19:57. > :20:00.John Disley will be remembered for setting up the London Marathon and
:20:01. > :20:08.last year, over 37 thousand runners finished the iconic race.
:20:09. > :20:12.Playing for Wales must meet the proudest moment of any player's
:20:13. > :20:16.career and it is no different for a night of the realm. So Gareth
:20:17. > :20:22.Edwards scored one of his most iconic tries against Scotland and
:20:23. > :20:29.his pride in the red jersey is as strong now as it was four decades
:20:30. > :20:37.ago. It is laid back for Gareth Edwards.
:20:38. > :20:46.Edwards over the line. Over halfway. Can he score? It would be a miracle!
:20:47. > :20:48.He may well get to it, and he has. You cannot get anything better than
:20:49. > :21:05.that in international rugby. To represent your country is still
:21:06. > :21:14.one of the highlights of your career. I can well remember
:21:15. > :21:21.listening to the radio, wonderful commentary. If Wales happens to be
:21:22. > :21:27.losing or going behind, I would leave the room and go out to play
:21:28. > :21:31.and kick a ball on the road outside, hoping when I got back, things would
:21:32. > :21:38.have changed. Sometimes they did and sometimes they never did! And I
:21:39. > :21:41.remember on the Black and wide television watching Clive Rowlands
:21:42. > :21:48.being captain for the first time against England. Dab went to buy a
:21:49. > :21:52.car in the Blackwood area -- my father. He arrived half an hour
:21:53. > :21:54.later with England leading and winning so that was a huge
:21:55. > :22:01.disappointment for my first television game! When you are young
:22:02. > :22:07.and you see these heroes playing, eagerly the game is beyond you and
:22:08. > :22:11.that captives beyond you. You dream about it and the desire is there to
:22:12. > :22:18.play for Wales. And when it actually did happen, I was in college in
:22:19. > :22:23.Cardiff and my friend and I just remembered that the team was being
:22:24. > :22:29.announced. I said, do me a favour and drink Cardiff and find out the
:22:30. > :22:34.team. He did that. I could see from his face, he returned with great
:22:35. > :22:38.delight. He gave me the thumbs up, you have got in! I said, I cannot
:22:39. > :22:45.be! I could not believe it would happen. And I made him telephoned
:22:46. > :22:49.the club again in case it had been a mistake.
:22:50. > :22:52.And the man playing scrum-half today for Wales, the young 19-year-old
:22:53. > :22:58.virtuoso, Gareth Edwards from Cardiff. There is a peer of playing
:22:59. > :23:06.and a fear of failing. The nation now rests on your shoulders -- beer.
:23:07. > :23:11.The expectation is great. All of a sudden, I am thrust in the company
:23:12. > :23:16.of my heroes. Guys I had been watching on the terrace five, six
:23:17. > :23:21.years before. Am I really playing with these guys, in the Welsh team
:23:22. > :23:29.Mr Mark but then of course you do not wish to become a one cap wonder.
:23:30. > :23:33.And once you get your second cap, you feel even better. And the
:23:34. > :23:40.adrenaline begins and it becomes a drug. Edwards is going! He is going
:23:41. > :23:49.to score. Bennett. Edwards. After Lewis.
:23:50. > :23:58.Inside the Davis. Davis... Gareth Edwards! I will never forget
:23:59. > :24:04.the jersey being presented. I picked it up and I kissed the badge and I
:24:05. > :24:10.put the jersey on. It was like no other jersey I had ever put on. At
:24:11. > :24:15.the very end, they still had that feeling, the same feelings I had in
:24:16. > :24:20.the first. It is something which is almost beyond description. To
:24:21. > :24:29.represent your country is still one of the highlights of your career.
