:00:20. > :00:28.A chance for a second goal on the night. It goes in! Gordon
:00:29. > :00:32.Strachan's men are the toast of Scotland in Croatia. This campaign
:00:33. > :00:36.could be about to end on the brightest of notes. Our national
:00:37. > :00:41.drink, our national game, enjoyed the world over. Should we have kept
:00:42. > :00:46.quiet about the football? In 1934, in Uruguay. Norway, 2009. The final
:00:47. > :00:53.turn of the knife... England in 1961. The South Americans, once is
:00:54. > :01:00.forgiveable. But the Americans, that hurt. The Scots, given a football
:01:01. > :01:03.lesson stateside, suffering their biggest defeat on Craig Levine.
:01:04. > :01:13.Unlike a good malt, redemption cannot come quick enough. Always
:01:14. > :01:17.best served cold. The USA have qualified for their
:01:18. > :01:22.seventh World Cup in a row and we failed to reach the last seven major
:01:23. > :01:25.tournaments. Brazil 2014 will bring that number to eight. Who is the
:01:26. > :01:31.real footballing nation now? The glass is always half full for our
:01:32. > :01:33.guests this evening. Two men with a dozen Scotland goals between them
:01:34. > :01:46.including this one by Pat Nevin against Estonia. With a member it
:01:47. > :01:51.is. Bringing back glorious memories. And making his debut, the all-time
:01:52. > :01:57.record goalkeeper -- goal-scorer of the SPL, Kris Boyd. Both late on a
:01:58. > :02:00.Friday night but sober as judges. The national team has led many a
:02:01. > :02:03.Scotsman to drink over the years but there has been a marked improvement
:02:04. > :02:06.in recent months under Gordon Strachan. Would we be toasting
:02:07. > :02:11.another victory at Hampden Park tonight or drowning our sorrows?
:02:12. > :02:17.Billy Dodds and Liam McLeod were there for us.
:02:18. > :02:22.They have dubbed this park two, redemption. But it is a different
:02:23. > :02:25.Scotland that takes an the USA tonight to the one that was hammered
:02:26. > :02:32.in Florida last year. A new manager, new impetus and new hope. Gordon
:02:33. > :02:39.Strachan has given Scotland their belief back but tonight's
:02:40. > :02:46.penultimate game, if movement will be a big test against Juergen
:02:47. > :02:56.Klinsmann's side. This year's report card under Gordon Strachan reads won
:02:57. > :03:00.four, lost four. There's been a visible improvement in performances
:03:01. > :03:04.and results and, perhaps, in the future, fortunes as well. Ten months
:03:05. > :03:10.until the next campaign gets underway.
:03:11. > :03:17.There is a welcome return for Steven Fletcher to the Scotland line-up the
:03:18. > :03:21.first time injuring his ankle. There is also a first cap for Gordon Greer
:03:22. > :03:24.in defence and a second international start for Craig
:03:25. > :03:31.Conway, on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion. The Americans have been
:03:32. > :03:36.shorn of their striker, Clint Dempsey, and that Ian Johnson, with
:03:37. > :03:40.injury. Adding to a list of that already featured Donovan, who scored
:03:41. > :03:45.a hat-trick at Jacksonville. 24 Rangers players starting. Added up
:03:46. > :03:53.front is a team-mate Steven Fletcher's at Sunderland. --
:03:54. > :04:00.Contador. Debbie doubts over Craig Bryson. He does not make the bench.
:04:01. > :04:08.Ross McCormack, who scored four for Leeds United. It is also time to say
:04:09. > :04:11.goodbye to Hampden Park for a while as it prepares to host the track and
:04:12. > :04:17.field events at next year's Commonwealth games. Scotland's games
:04:18. > :04:24.will have new homes during that period. The draw for the 2016
:04:25. > :04:32.qualified occasion campaign will be made in the Nice inventory. --
:04:33. > :04:38.qualification campaign. Billy Dodds is with me. How was it going to go?
:04:39. > :04:42.I think Scotland are awaiting for continuity. They want to keep the
:04:43. > :04:47.momentum going. They had good results in the last two competitive
:04:48. > :04:51.games. Friendlies can be a different kettle of fish but the USA would be
:04:52. > :05:06.a test. Paisley, already attacking. -- Priestly. He was the left-winger
:05:07. > :05:10.there. Juergen Klinsmann, a World Cup winner with West Germany in
:05:11. > :05:20.1990. He won the European Championship as well in 1996. The
:05:21. > :05:31.Scotland setup, sometimes they said with
:05:32. > :05:47.The first shot from Fletcher. The first sight of goal. You can go with
:05:48. > :05:57.Snodgrass or Fletcher. Beasley, who now plays football and
:05:58. > :06:29.Mexico. -- in Mexico. Only half cleared, angles from Barry
:06:30. > :06:34.Bannon. Just for a second, it looked like it was gone to drop for Steven
:06:35. > :06:36.Fletcher. It was a good ball by Bannon. We are up on the second
:06:37. > :07:06.half. The challenge from Snodgrass was a
:07:07. > :07:09.good one. Scotland have got themselves out of trouble. The
:07:10. > :07:11.Americans were looking to build an attack but instead, the hosts are on
:07:12. > :07:39.the counter. Brilliant from Snodgrass. He has the
:07:40. > :07:43.right idea. Steven Fletcher. We have seen him take this position is many
:07:44. > :07:55.times. Bannan is always in the thick of things. People's Gonzales off. --
:07:56. > :08:12.peoples. Diskerud, far right, playing in France now. -- Bedoya.
:08:13. > :08:21.Grant Hanley pointing to the ball. He is claiming he won it favourably
:08:22. > :08:32.against elder daughter. -- won it fairly against Contador. Sometimes
:08:33. > :08:34.you have to stand your ground. Grant Hanley might be rusty. He has not
:08:35. > :08:54.played since the Croatia match. It was well one and then thumped
:08:55. > :09:01.over the bar by the man who won it. He potted across, Gonzales. And it
:09:02. > :09:06.falls in the edge of the box. Alitidore does not hit the target.
:09:07. > :09:13.He was trying to get over it but he got under it.
:09:14. > :09:18.David Marshall and golden night. Ali McGregor is injured. -- in the goal
:09:19. > :09:29.tonight. Bannan was caught. That is a free
:09:30. > :09:40.kick in a good area. Gonzales was the offender. So therefore Steven
:09:41. > :10:10.Fletcher. -- Sore for. A definite free kick.
:10:11. > :10:22.Closer this time. Howard had it covered. It is a goal kick. Plenty
:10:23. > :10:26.of pace, but you can see Howard was already there, waiting. He knows it
:10:27. > :10:36.is going over. No problem for the big goalkeeper. The United States
:10:37. > :10:38.play so many games. This is the 22nd game of 2013 compared to Scotland's
:10:39. > :10:53.ninth. Given Scotland's form, I'm sure
:10:54. > :10:57.Gordon Strachan would like that kind of ratio.
:10:58. > :11:20.Alan Hutton could not get the trajectory that he wanted.
:11:21. > :11:28.A good option on the left with Conway, and that is surely where it
:11:29. > :11:35.should have gone. He took the wrong option. Great play from Brown. He
:11:36. > :11:36.fired it in. Snodgrass picked it up, and I'm sure Conway would have had a
:11:37. > :11:49.chance. The wrong choice. Snodgrass has been terrific for
:11:50. > :11:56.Scotland this year so I'm sure they will be let off that one. -- and he
:11:57. > :11:59.will be. After about of concussion sustained playing for Norwich. --
:12:00. > :12:23.back after a boat. Steven Fletcher! Rolling it in! A
:12:24. > :12:30.glorious opportunity for Craig Conway. The American got it all
:12:31. > :12:37.wrong. Not to take anything away from Scotland. Fletcher chose the
:12:38. > :12:41.right option with Craig Conway. But it has to be the far corner and he
:12:42. > :12:50.went near post. At this angle, you guide it in. He got the connection
:12:51. > :12:54.all wrong. Tremendous memories of that particular goal, having scored
:12:55. > :13:22.for Dundee United in the cup final here against Ross County in 2010.
:13:23. > :13:29.Scott Brown Windsor back. Scotland fans looking for a penalty. But
:13:30. > :13:34.they're not getting it. But they are getting the half-time whistle.
:13:35. > :13:38.Gordon Strachan will feel that his team should have been in front
:13:39. > :13:44.because of Craig Conway's chance early on. That means that Abbey
:13:45. > :13:54.National Stadium, it is no mail. -- at the National Stadium.
:13:55. > :14:05.So far, Scotland have one two so far. -- won two. It was a Euro 1992
:14:06. > :14:13.warm up match, where Pat Nevin but the only goal of the game. -- got
:14:14. > :14:17.the only goal. Much better from Scotland than in for 18 months ago.
:14:18. > :14:28.-- than in Florida. Geoff Cameron scored an own goal
:14:29. > :14:40.that briefly gave the Scots some hope.
:14:41. > :14:49.The USA finished top of their group. Attica went into the play-offs where
:14:50. > :15:06.they beat New Zealand handsomely. -- America. The only team to beat
:15:07. > :15:13.America in real competition in 16 months is Costa Rica, in December --
:15:14. > :15:21.December. Write down the throat of Marshall from.
:15:22. > :15:27.Just a little passing between the two, going down the left-hand side.
:15:28. > :15:31.Decent strike, but would have not beaten Marshall.
:15:32. > :15:54.Conway did get there, but got too much of Conway. Not to the
:15:55. > :16:01.referee's liking, and Scotland, not -- and in a good area. I thought
:16:02. > :16:07.Edwards -- Evans got a bit of the ball, but just a little touch on it.
:16:08. > :16:11.Going over the legs. Quite fortunate to get a free kick when you see
:16:12. > :16:13.that. Just did not look as though Steven Fletcher's ball had enough
:16:14. > :16:23.pace to get to his team-mate. Not enough weight on it to sevens
:16:24. > :16:30.into conceding a free kick in a very good area. -- to force Evans.
:16:31. > :16:38.Barry Bannon was over it. Not quite sure that was what was intended.
:16:39. > :16:43.Steven Fletcher when Fred. Into the arms of Tim Howard -- went for it.
:16:44. > :16:53.This is the counter from the United States. Not a good touch from
:16:54. > :16:56.Bedoya. I saw him trying free kick at Aberdeen, in a friendly. -- try
:16:57. > :17:07.that free kick. Whitaker. It looked a heavy touch,
:17:08. > :17:12.but it worked out. Steven Fletcher moving forward. Wonderful play by
:17:13. > :17:21.Steven Whittaker. He has drawn the free kick. He looks graceful on the
:17:22. > :17:26.run. He sucks in Jones, touches it past him. Gonzales comes, and
:17:27. > :17:31.touches him -- touches it past him. I remember him scoring a goal for
:17:32. > :17:38.Rangers against sporting Lisbon. Free kick, dangerous area. They will
:17:39. > :17:43.be looking at Snodgrass, who will want a bit of this. And why not?
:17:44. > :17:54.Terrific area for a strike goal here. Snodgrass fancies it, and he
:17:55. > :17:56.takes it. Tim Howard is equal to it. That is a great strike, and equalled
:17:57. > :18:06.by the save. Certainly going in, plenty of pace
:18:07. > :18:12.on it. The long arm of Tim Howard always covering it. Dipping under
:18:13. > :18:20.the bar as Bannon takes the corner. Altidore with the scraps.
:18:21. > :18:38.Robert Snodgrass looking to score in back-to-back games at Hampden Park.
:18:39. > :18:47.He opened the scoring against Croatia.
:18:48. > :18:54.Good interchange between Steven Whittaker and Snodgrass. Conway.
:18:55. > :19:00.That looked like a handball. It is only a corner. It certainly came off
:19:01. > :19:06.the hand of Gonzales. He doesn't know much about it though. Certainly
:19:07. > :19:11.hits his hand. An unnatural position, but he does not know much
:19:12. > :19:13.about it. Looking the other way. Much as you want it, it would have
:19:14. > :19:30.been harsh. He wins it well, Fletcher. He goes
:19:31. > :19:37.and attacks it, and anybody around the back post might get a tap in.
:19:38. > :19:41.Johnson wants it on the left-hand side, and so does Beasley. He gets
:19:42. > :20:01.it. Straight to Geoff Cameron, the
:20:02. > :20:08.centre half. Altidore! Not far away. That will be inches. Just a little
:20:09. > :20:13.tonnage sets free -- a little touch sensing free. That is a great.
:20:14. > :20:19.Marshall is beaten. -- sets him free. The camera behind the goal
:20:20. > :20:27.knows all about the strike from Jozy Altidore.
:20:28. > :20:42.Mc Cormack. Well held up by Ross McCormack. Barry Bannon. Early ball
:20:43. > :20:54.to Fletcher. Mulgrew tried to knock it through to Ross McCormack.
:20:55. > :21:08.Bradley, and it is starting to open up a bit. Bradley's ball finds
:21:09. > :21:14.Johannsson. Great play from Johannsson, wonderful from him.
:21:15. > :21:25.. Johannsson looks lively. He was in the Iceland squad for the start of
:21:26. > :21:30.the qualification group, and they are in the play-offs now. Johannsson
:21:31. > :21:44.currently in the US team though. Ross McCormack to Hudson. Trying to
:21:45. > :21:48.return it to the right back. -- Hutton. Precious little in the way
:21:49. > :21:52.of attacking threat through the game, but particularly the second
:21:53. > :21:57.half. Scotland did force a save from Tim Howard from the Snodgrass free
:21:58. > :22:01.kick early on. The US have an option on the left-hand side. Bedoya finds
:22:02. > :22:18.shape -- hint of a handball. Certainly clips
:22:19. > :22:26.it. An unnatural position again. Hands up, hands out. Maybe got a
:22:27. > :22:33.little bit lucky there. 1-1 in shouts for handball is not given.
:22:34. > :22:35.American corner, taken by Bradley. Swinging over, and David Marshall
:22:36. > :23:13.does well. This is Altidore. Johannsson has
:23:14. > :23:24.continued the run. Alan Hutton is there though. Shea. Shea coming in
:23:25. > :23:30.from the back. Lovely first-time ball from Altidore. Hutton Thaksin.
:23:31. > :23:45.Good defending from both players. Scotland leapt up to 35th in the
:23:46. > :23:50.recent world rankings as a result of the victory over Croatia last month.
:23:51. > :23:55.They continue their revival. But the US might be in with Altidore. Greer
:23:56. > :24:01.has given it away. Marshall makes the save, and somehow it stays out.
:24:02. > :24:07.Brilliant from Hanley. We really get lucky. Once Greer clears it, a few
:24:08. > :24:14.ricochets. Good strength from Altidore. Johannsson has the strike
:24:15. > :24:19.and you think Altidore will get the tap in, but Hanley boots it away
:24:20. > :24:26.from him. A little bit of luck, a little bit of good defending. I will
:24:27. > :24:29.take it all day long. David Marshall looking to keep his first clean
:24:30. > :24:32.sheet for his country over 90 minutes. He did keep one in
:24:33. > :24:39.Macedonia, but he went off at half-time. Six and a half minutes of
:24:40. > :24:43.90 to go. Lee Wallace. McKay Stephen --
:24:44. > :25:01.Mackay-Steven. Scott Brown looks every inch an
:25:02. > :25:06.international player these days. Eight years on from making his debut
:25:07. > :25:10.against the same opposition. Good hanging in the air from Naismith,
:25:11. > :25:17.like Steven Fletcher, he's good at doing that. Ross McCormack loses
:25:18. > :25:26.out. He has the beating of Greer here. Cutting it back. Johannsson! .
:25:27. > :25:33.It goes past. The three substitutes, I know they are fresh, but they have
:25:34. > :25:37.looked very lively. Shea Has the pace on Gordon Greer. Finding
:25:38. > :25:42.Johannsson. You think it is in the net. You can see from this angle
:25:43. > :25:45.it's going wide, but what a chance. They have had two fantastic chances
:25:46. > :25:56.in the last few moments. We are hanging on. No goals, and it has
:25:57. > :26:02.been stop start in the second half. Anything positive to Gordon Strachan
:26:03. > :26:07.tonight? I think getting Fletcher back, and Brown in the central area.
:26:08. > :26:13.They have kept a clean sheet with the new pairing at centre half. A
:26:14. > :26:18.few positives. If they can hold on, they might even make it. It's
:26:19. > :26:26.another game going unbeaten, that's three now. Foul on Ross McCormack.
:26:27. > :26:35.This might be Scotland's chance. Charlie Mulgrew still on the park.
:26:36. > :26:41.Gordon Greer has been sent forward, and the grand Hanley. -- grand
:26:42. > :26:48.Hanley. Just two minutes left of the 90. -- Grant family. Mulgrew waits
:26:49. > :27:00.over the free kick. Good free kick from Mulgrew, and a
:27:01. > :27:05.slight Fleck from Hanley. Only takes it to Tim Howard -- a slight flick.
:27:06. > :27:14.Probably needed the touch to take it off the path. He saw it all the way.
:27:15. > :27:23.The final minute of stoppage time at Hampden Park. Alan Hutton. Naismith.
:27:24. > :27:27.Brown. Will Scotland get one last ball into the middle? Brown, but too
:27:28. > :27:33.close to Tim Howard. The story of the night. When you come in from
:27:34. > :27:39.those areas, deep and wide, especially against a tall, physical
:27:40. > :27:43.back four, and the goalkeeper as well, it has to be played in place,
:27:44. > :27:51.going away from him, but it was hung up. The last chance of the game will
:27:52. > :28:00.fall to the Americans. Shea, with Johannsson. Back with Johannsson
:28:01. > :28:04.now. Intricate. The turn was blocked, and that is the final
:28:05. > :28:09.action. And it is the final home International of the year as Juergen
:28:10. > :28:12.Klinsmann and Gordon Strachan exchange pleasantries at the end of
:28:13. > :28:17.a match that was fairly even, you have to say. Scotland did have a
:28:18. > :28:21.couple of good chances, Craig Conway in the first half, then a wonderful
:28:22. > :28:26.free kick from Robert Snodgrass in the second, which was tipped over by
:28:27. > :28:30.Tim Howard. Good showing from the defence, particularly from Hanley,
:28:31. > :28:33.and David Marshall keeps a clean sheet with Steven Fletcher back in
:28:34. > :28:42.the fold. It finishes at Hampden Park, 0-0.
:28:43. > :28:47.0-0 the final score and it won't go down as a classic. After the match,
:28:48. > :28:53.we spoke to the Scotland manager, Gordon Strachan.
:28:54. > :29:00.There were competent performances. A couple of terrific performances.
:29:01. > :29:03.I've said in the dressing room, but they put in a terrific performance,
:29:04. > :29:09.and the other guys think they could have been better. It reaffirmed what
:29:10. > :29:18.I thought about the team and how we are going. We need to progress. To
:29:19. > :29:22.beat teams as big as strong and that, we're not as big and strong.
:29:23. > :29:27.We have to be really nimble and agile and sharp on the edge of the
:29:28. > :29:31.box and putting good passes and be brave. That is what we're looking
:29:32. > :29:37.for. If we do that, we'll do very well. I think it was an interesting
:29:38. > :29:43.game and the pace picked up in the second half. We corrected a couple
:29:44. > :29:48.of things at half-time. I was not happy with the first half too much.
:29:49. > :29:51.I think we played too slowly and we did not find Jozy Altidore quick
:29:52. > :29:57.enough. We did not combine quick enough. No urgency and no drive,
:29:58. > :30:02.really. That all changed. I think the second half you saw it team that
:30:03. > :30:09.raised the tempo and created chances. Scotland had their
:30:10. > :30:32.chances, so a fair result. You were a fingertip from Tim Howard.
:30:33. > :30:37.In Their will be changes. I've purposefully did not put on a couple
:30:38. > :30:41.of the lands, knowing that they will be starting the game. Utility that
:30:42. > :30:49.victory would always be the priority. It is the same thing for
:30:50. > :30:53.every game. Under Gordon Strachan, would you expect Scotland to reach
:30:54. > :31:00.Euro 2016, given that it is a bigger tournaments now? Well, to qualify in
:31:01. > :31:11.Europe is very tricky and difficult. God knows that. -- Gordon. It is
:31:12. > :31:17.good to be a battle. I think they have more opportunities now, when it
:31:18. > :31:21.steps up to 24 teams. But he will not take it easy. I'll wish Scotland
:31:22. > :31:24.the very best to qualify for the next big tournaments has everyone
:31:25. > :31:29.wants to see them in the tournaments. Let's be honest, it was
:31:30. > :31:36.not a thriller. How would you sum it up? It was a clean sheet, which is a
:31:37. > :31:39.positive, but we had a lot of possession but we never threatened.
:31:40. > :31:46.At think that is a bit disappointing. How do you sum it up?
:31:47. > :31:49.What we take from tonight? One of the positives is that they hammered
:31:50. > :31:54.us last time, they really hammered us. It was five but it could have
:31:55. > :31:59.been more. We stood up to them today. Technically, we looks good. I
:32:00. > :32:01.think some of the changes that he tried to make have worked quite
:32:02. > :32:08.well. He was looking for some partnerships. I think some of those
:32:09. > :32:12.worked well. But it was not a classic. The other thing to take
:32:13. > :32:17.away, there are some more to come in to add to the group. It keeps on
:32:18. > :32:22.going, and there are positives but let's not pretend it was a cracker.
:32:23. > :32:32.It looked like being a 4-31, which was likely surprising. -- 4-2-3 one.
:32:33. > :32:35.How did it work? was likely surprising. -- 4-2-3 one.
:32:36. > :32:40.How did it The macro look at what he's doing. He picks it up nicely,
:32:41. > :32:45.getting into an interesting area. But watches movement. He gets in
:32:46. > :32:53.there, and he is clever and making space. It was good linkup play. He
:32:54. > :33:01.had half a chance of getting into that area but the linkup, as a
:33:02. > :33:04.striker... They all seem to know where they are on the pitch. They
:33:05. > :33:10.were never far away from each other. If you see that one, he probably
:33:11. > :33:15.should have gone wide. But they are always in position to receive the
:33:16. > :33:22.ball. To bring each other into play or get it wide. Did we great enough
:33:23. > :33:25.chances? I think when we get into position, we have to know what we're
:33:26. > :33:36.doing. Adding the manager stated that. You want fast passes. I don't
:33:37. > :33:43.think we really got that. We have not had two upfront. Snodgrass was
:33:44. > :33:46.always one off. And Scotland fans have been crying out for that. I
:33:47. > :33:53.thought Snodgrass was playing intelligently. Sometimes he was
:33:54. > :33:56.actually there. He started further up and gave himself the chance to
:33:57. > :34:01.drop into the goal. A lot of the time, when the guy is in the hole,
:34:02. > :34:06.you know where to go. He dropped in and picked up the ball. As we have
:34:07. > :34:11.said, they combined well. It was a pity we did not get a goal. Can you
:34:12. > :34:16.see yourself combining well for Scotland upfront in the future? It
:34:17. > :34:22.is up to me to keep scoring goals for Kilmarnock. Butler that the
:34:23. > :34:26.midfield engine room, Scott Brown and Charlie Mulgrew, doing it for
:34:27. > :34:34.club and country. How effective where they? Look at that angle. I
:34:35. > :34:40.think Mulgrew and Scott Brown bossed it. Position Lee, getting into the
:34:41. > :34:48.right areas. I think with one exception, Charlie Mulgrew was the
:34:49. > :34:52.best. Look at this. He touches it, then the next player, OK. Scott
:34:53. > :34:58.Brown gets close, but the ball gets wide. He gets close. This is good
:34:59. > :35:01.stuff. And then what happens? We get it back. I think that was the thing
:35:02. > :35:07.all mate. They worked together particularly well. I think it will
:35:08. > :35:11.be tough to see them move from that position, because when they play
:35:12. > :35:15.together, they are comfortable. When you look at the game, Snodgrass and
:35:16. > :35:19.Fletcher did not need to drop far. The two of them lost the game. They
:35:20. > :35:26.got things down and forward to the strikers. Are they the two best
:35:27. > :35:32.Scottish players for that position, Kris Boyd? I think they have shown
:35:33. > :35:36.that. James Morrison is a fantastic player and we have more to come out.
:35:37. > :35:43.We have a captain to come back, who is obviously going to add something.
:35:44. > :35:44.We have options. We have spoken about Snodgrass and he has been
:35:45. > :35:46.impressive recently. about Snodgrass and he has been
:35:47. > :35:53.impressive This was probably our best chance of the night, would you
:35:54. > :36:01.say? It was a fantastic save. For the possession that we have had,
:36:02. > :36:06.further up the pitch, I think that is the only opportunity we had in
:36:07. > :36:10.the game. How big a player is Robert Snodgrass for Scotland? We have to
:36:11. > :36:14.add that on because he is fantastic free kicks. His underrated. We can
:36:15. > :36:18.see in the Premier League he is doing that but we have to remember
:36:19. > :36:25.that we have shone Maloney and Mulgrew that can also do that. This
:36:26. > :36:33.could be massive Scotland. -- sieve for Scotland for. For me, Snodgrass
:36:34. > :36:37.is growing. This game may have been crying out for goals. Could they
:36:38. > :36:40.have come from the penalty slot? -- penalty spot. There were two
:36:41. > :36:47.contentious incidents. What did you make of this? yes, it is his hand
:36:48. > :36:51.and it was in the box. But was a deliberate? No. 100%, no chance. You
:36:52. > :36:56.can say what you like about the hand being in an unusual position, but
:36:57. > :37:03.that does not matter. Was it deliberate? That has to be the first
:37:04. > :37:13.question. And it was not. This one? I think this one is the same. It was
:37:14. > :37:14.ball to hand. I think the consensus is that they should not have been
:37:15. > :37:18.penalties. ball to hand. I think the consensus
:37:19. > :37:24.is that they should not The USA were sporadic in terms of form. They did
:37:25. > :37:25.create a number of chances. And probably, you would have to say,
:37:26. > :37:29.they should have scored from them. probably, you would have to say,
:37:30. > :37:37.they should have They got further up the pitch in -- at that point.
:37:38. > :37:41.Altidore should have done better. He did not hide away. They came back.
:37:42. > :37:47.He had another chance on goal. It was great defending this one, to be
:37:48. > :37:50.fair. That was great defending. But as a striker, you really should be
:37:51. > :37:56.acting quicker and getting them in the net. It looks harsh in the
:37:57. > :38:00.replay, because we are talking about three decent chances at the end of
:38:01. > :38:07.the game. He was Gordon the Gopher pace. He did not do much else wrong
:38:08. > :38:11.but he was going for pace. They had three chances at the end of the game
:38:12. > :38:11.and that is what sticks in the memory.
:38:12. > :38:15.three chances at the end of the game and But over the whole piece, I
:38:16. > :38:20.think Scotland work at least as good as the USA and probably slightly
:38:21. > :38:23.better. I was disappointed that they did not win the game because they
:38:24. > :38:33.controlled the majority. And it should be remembered that they were
:38:34. > :38:36.missing key players. How much war -- how much did we miss the players who
:38:37. > :38:39.were missing? The macro I think that is the most important thing about
:38:40. > :38:45.tonight. Have we got that creativity? We have mentioned
:38:46. > :38:49.Maloney. I think the left-hand side made a huge difference for the last
:38:50. > :38:55.game. You can bring him on. Naismith was also mentioned. I think you get
:38:56. > :39:02.that with him, the ball in the corner. Red cut is another one.
:39:03. > :39:05.Don't forget about him. Lots of matches throughout Europe this
:39:06. > :39:13.evening as a scramble for World Cup places kicked off. This was the
:39:14. > :39:57.first leg. Iceland foot to Croatia. -- Iceland through.
:39:58. > :40:09.We play Norway on Tuesday next week. There we have it. Sporting is back
:40:10. > :40:12.next weekend. -- Sportscene. At 5:55pm. Jonathan that. That is it
:40:13. > :40:14.for tonight. next weekend. -- Sportscene. At
:40:15. > :40:18.5:55pm. Jonathan that. That is -- join us for that. Thank you for
:40:19. > :40:23.staying up. Thanks to Pat Nevin and Kris Boyd. It was not a classic from
:40:24. > :40:26.Scotland this evening, but at least we did not get beaten. 0-0 tonight.
:40:27. > :40:38.We could have done with a godfather goal.
