:00:51. > :00:54.Winning the Scottish Cup, reaching that final, making that journey,
:00:55. > :00:58.takes a lot more than just luck. It's all about crossing that
:00:59. > :01:03.finishing line. Whatever the draw, you have to have passion,
:01:04. > :01:12.determination and drive to get over that line. Today's Fourth Round lets
:01:13. > :01:18.teams live the dream. What an upset in the Scottish Cup. Dundee United
:01:19. > :01:22.have beaten Rangers. Queen of the south reached the finish line in
:01:23. > :01:32.2008 but couldn't cross the line. Rangers have won the Scottish Cup. A
:01:33. > :01:37.year later, unfancied Falkirk fell at the final hurdle. They have a
:01:38. > :01:40.chance of revenge. Ross County and Hibs know all about getting to the
:01:41. > :01:47.home straight, yet failing to get across the line.
:01:48. > :01:48.This is where the line was drawn in 2014.
:01:49. > :02:01.But who will cross that finish line? There's a fine line between success
:02:02. > :02:05.and failure, tonight 14 games, 40 goals and all the excitement you
:02:06. > :02:08.would rightly expect from the Fourth Round of the William Hill Scottish
:02:09. > :02:15.Cup. Fresh from the field of battle, St Mirren striker Stephen Thompson
:02:16. > :02:19.joins pat nefb and myself in the studio this evening. We would get a
:02:20. > :02:21.cup shock this weekend. Albion Rovers face Motherwell, there was a
:02:22. > :02:38.change of venue. This traditional football stadium is
:02:39. > :02:43.what the romance of the Scottish Cup is all about. Surely a chance for
:02:44. > :02:48.Albion Rovers to cause a real upset against Motherwell.
:02:49. > :02:54.But it's all quiet here, in fact, the pad rocks are on. -- pad locks
:02:55. > :03:03.are on. This tie has been moved to New Douglas Park, after a recent
:03:04. > :03:07.fire caused damage to the stadium. So, the cup tie was moved eight
:03:08. > :03:14.miles down the road and a stadium that is closer to Motherwell's home
:03:15. > :03:18.ground. But Albion Rovers are being pragmatic about losing home
:03:19. > :03:22.advantage. We don't think we're losing home advantage. The players
:03:23. > :03:27.are enthusiastic about the game today. It's a bigger game for us
:03:28. > :03:31.than for Motherwell. For us it's more about coming here to do their
:03:32. > :03:34.job. For us it's a question of our boys have to come and give their
:03:35. > :03:38.best. Motherwell need to have a bit of an off day for us to achieve
:03:39. > :03:43.something. I wouldn't read too much into the past record. I've heard all
:03:44. > :03:49.week that we've never beaten Motherwell in all our existence. But
:03:50. > :03:54.yeah, it can happen. The last thing we played them 25 years ago, we lost
:03:55. > :03:59.4-0, before I was involved, as it happens. We're looking for a
:04:00. > :04:04.reversal of that today. Fans of the League Two side would take that.
:04:05. > :04:08.Motherwell supporters turned out in force, out numbering their rivals
:04:09. > :04:14.ten to one. It would feel more like a home match for them and they were
:04:15. > :04:18.certainly confident. It's not if or maybe, we have to
:04:19. > :04:23.win. We've never lost to Albion Rovers. Today is not a day to start.
:04:24. > :04:28.I've been supporting them for 72 years and I'm always looking for an
:04:29. > :04:35.upset. Because when I was brought up, my father taught us to support
:04:36. > :04:40.the underdog. I've done that all my days. We don't meet them often, but
:04:41. > :04:45.we'll be glad to take them on. There wasn't much for either sets of fans
:04:46. > :04:51.to get too excited about early on. 20 minutes in Albion Rovers almost
:04:52. > :04:57.shocked their Premiership opponents. Cusack forced the keeper into
:04:58. > :05:04.action. That seemed to spur Motherwell on and minutes later, Bob
:05:05. > :05:11.McHugh tried to head his team in front.
:05:12. > :05:17.As the tie wore on, Motherwell had plenty of possession, but it was
:05:18. > :05:24.Albion Rovers who almost got the breakthrough.
:05:25. > :05:33.McGuigan's effort was just wide. A minute later, Sutton's header was
:05:34. > :05:46.kicked out. The tie looked to be heading for a
:05:47. > :05:51.replay, but into the final minute, there was time for a hero.
:05:52. > :06:02.Step forward Gary Philips and cue the celebrations for Albion Rovers.
:06:03. > :06:04.An historic win then for Rovers as they dump Motherwell out of the
:06:05. > :06:17.Scottish Cup. Speechless I think. I'm so proud. I
:06:18. > :06:22.thought they deserved it based on their work rate. We left Motherwell
:06:23. > :06:26.a lot of the ball in front of us. They never hurt us. I felt that
:06:27. > :06:30.based on the way that we showed a bit more desire, we had the better
:06:31. > :06:34.chances, I feel that we deserved it. It was great. The timing was great,
:06:35. > :06:39.if they'd done it 20 minutes earlier, I don't know if I could
:06:40. > :06:43.have survived it. There's no excuses today. I've been very fortunate in
:06:44. > :06:46.my footballing career, almost 34 years, and that's the first time
:06:47. > :06:49.I've probably been on the end of such a shock like that. They happen
:06:50. > :06:52.in football. It doesn't make it easy to take. Delighted because people
:06:53. > :06:56.need to appreciate that these boys work all week and they don't get
:06:57. > :07:00.paid a lot of money to play for us. It's occasions like this that mean
:07:01. > :07:03.more to them, to beat teams like Motherwell. It's a big thing for
:07:04. > :07:07.them. They don't play for the money. They play for the opportunity to
:07:08. > :07:12.come and give things back to a small club. It's a great day. Without the
:07:13. > :07:17.cup, horrendous feeling. If I'm honest, I don't want to go home. I
:07:18. > :07:22.don't want to face my family and friends. It's an embarrass am. The
:07:23. > :07:28.quintessential cup shock. What will that mean to Rovers today? It's a
:07:29. > :07:31.bad result for Motherwell, but it will mean everything to them.
:07:32. > :07:34.They've never beaten Motherwell in their history. To win today is
:07:35. > :07:38.fantastic. I hope the boys enjoy it. A fantastic goal from Philips as
:07:39. > :07:45.well. How would you sum up this attacking play? It was actually
:07:46. > :07:51.quite a composed finish. It skips up in front of the goalkeeper. It's a
:07:52. > :07:54.great finish from 18 yards. You can see how happy the players are. It
:07:55. > :07:59.means everything to emthis. They'll really enjoy this win and this
:08:00. > :08:05.evening. You can see, it's as if they've won the cup. Former junior
:08:06. > :08:09.player there, you have to feel for Stuart McCall as well. Obviously
:08:10. > :08:13.deeply hurt by this result. What would you say about Motherwell?
:08:14. > :08:19.First of all, it's no accident. He is really suffering there. He's a
:08:20. > :08:22.proud manager and man. They'd have expected and hoped for a really good
:08:23. > :08:26.run in the cup this season. They would have thought with that
:08:27. > :08:30.competition, that draw would have worked for them really well. There
:08:31. > :08:36.have been other bad days as well. Airdrie is one which was painful.
:08:37. > :08:42.Plastic pitch, I can give you a lot of excuses, he will be suffering.
:08:43. > :08:45.Well, Dumfries was the venue, Stephen Thompson's St Mirren hit the
:08:46. > :08:50.cup trail away to Queen of the South. As with all 13 cup matches
:08:51. > :08:52.today, there was a minute's silence in respect of the victims of last
:08:53. > :09:29.night's helicopter crash in Glasgow. So to the first of our feature
:09:30. > :09:31.matches this evening. Queen of the South versus St Mirren. Paul
:09:32. > :09:42.Mitchell was watching for us. Queen of the South's first ever
:09:43. > :09:48.match was in 1919 in the Scottish qualifying cup. Since then, the
:09:49. > :09:52.attempts to lift the Scottish Cup they've never encountered St Mirren.
:09:53. > :10:02.So a little bit of history is made today. They have already sparred in
:10:03. > :10:07.the League Cup. Neither side won in the respective league matches last
:10:08. > :10:17.weekend. Queen of the South losing to Raith Rovers.
:10:18. > :10:38.Queen of the South against St Mirren sounds like a chivalrous affair, but
:10:39. > :10:43.in a setting which was made for cup football, this may be anything but.
:10:44. > :11:06.St Mirren beaten here in the League Cup.
:11:07. > :11:14.Thompson unleashes a verbal volley saying that was way too high.
:11:15. > :11:27.The pass was a good one. Acres of space. He overcooked that.
:11:28. > :11:38.Well it came off his arm. The referee looked to the assistant.
:11:39. > :12:07.It seemed to come off the arm of McCausland.
:12:08. > :12:31.Deflected and in. He kicked it down beautifully. He's
:12:32. > :12:33.in a man in good goal-scoring form. The opening goal comes inside nine
:12:34. > :12:45.minutes for the Premiership side. Great technique, it may have taken a
:12:46. > :12:53.slight nick on the way through. Wonderful skill from Newton. St
:12:54. > :12:58.Mirren take the league. There was nothing that Clark could do.
:12:59. > :13:01.That sun is coming right into the eyes of our cameramen and the
:13:02. > :13:25.commentary box. He scored once this season in the
:13:26. > :13:35.Challenge Cup. Plenty of zip and zing.
:13:36. > :13:41.Good save by Kello. It's a flying save from the keeper.
:13:42. > :14:15.A really good hit from Paton. Kello has been dependable since he
:14:16. > :14:36.arrived. Russell went down. He's never short
:14:37. > :14:44.of a quote or two Russell. Just a word with the fullback.
:14:45. > :15:01.A teasing ball in. It breaks back to Russell, off the post and in!
:15:02. > :15:08.Equaliser comes for Russell. The pressure from Queen of the South
:15:09. > :15:12.pays dividends. Kello came and didn't damager as he
:15:13. > :15:15.wished. -- gather as he wished. Just as in
:15:16. > :15:20.the League Cup tie, they fall behind and get back on level terms. The
:15:21. > :15:22.punch was dreadful. It came off McGreggor in the end.
:15:23. > :15:32.There's no doubt this is Russell's -- Russell's goal. Credit Ian
:15:33. > :16:03.Russell, clever finish. That will be the last action of a
:16:04. > :16:09.breath taking first half. Newton with the opening goal inside
:16:10. > :16:14.nine minutes, kept it down really well giving Clark no chance. Russell
:16:15. > :16:21.with the equal aisleser on 34 -- equaliser on 34 minutes.
:16:22. > :16:29.Mr Blunt and his two sons, he's 90 years old, he never misses a game.
:16:30. > :16:41.They'll be enjoying this cup tie too.
:16:42. > :16:47.St Mirren have lost only three of the last 12 away ties.
:16:48. > :16:54.This is the first-team coach and a media pundit for BBC Radio Scotland.
:16:55. > :17:12.That's where he is working. St Mirren get the first corner of
:17:13. > :17:31.the second half. What a save by Clark! McAusland
:17:32. > :17:37.looked to get the final touch. It flashed across Thompson. The push
:17:38. > :17:40.away by the goalkeeper. It's turn add way by Jason Naismith.
:17:41. > :17:57.-- turned away by Steven Naismith. The referee doesn't like the
:17:58. > :18:06.challenge. It will be a free kick.
:18:07. > :18:25.Oh, it was a good one. Just wide. Goodwin looking for his first goal
:18:26. > :18:56.of the season. Er Thompson! Great move down the
:18:57. > :19:00.left side. Thompson tucks it home. Wonderful football from St Mirren.
:19:01. > :19:07.Lovely little ball. Watch the run of Kelly. He was picked out by Riley.
:19:08. > :19:10.That's on the money. Thompson steered it into the net.
:19:11. > :19:24.Clark had no chance. McKenna got in there and caught him.
:19:25. > :19:43.The home fans don't like -- don't like the call.
:19:44. > :19:53.That's a tricky ball in. The offside flag is up. McGreggor pushes it
:19:54. > :19:56.square. A great ball in from McLean,
:19:57. > :20:29.teasing. A chance - goal Paton! What an
:20:30. > :20:36.equaliser for Queen of the South. It's 2-2.
:20:37. > :20:46.Beautifully crafted goal. McShane at the heart. McShane played it wide. A
:20:47. > :20:54.great ball across, the dink of a header and Paton with a wonderful
:20:55. > :20:58.finish. Lyle supplying the cross. Still a lot of work to do, Michael
:20:59. > :21:04.Paton. He didn't want to hit the goalkeeper and opened it up with the
:21:05. > :21:07.left foot. What a cup tie. He's supposed to be on radio
:21:08. > :21:15.Scotland at the moment, the first-team coach. That's his seat.
:21:16. > :21:19.Quality broadcasting there. He ran all the way down from the
:21:20. > :21:22.stand for the celebration. Storm clouds gathering off the
:21:23. > :21:36.field. It's pretty stormy on it too. He wanted it for himself. It was a
:21:37. > :21:39.difficult one. He would have to hook the right foot round. In behind the
:21:40. > :22:16.defender. Kello came a wandering. Back to Paton. He looks to the
:22:17. > :22:18.heavens. You know why. Great move again. The back heel from Paton
:22:19. > :22:31.rather spoiling it. The first ever Scottish Cup meeting
:22:32. > :22:40.between Queen of the South and St Mirren ends two apiece. What a cup
:22:41. > :22:46.tie it was. One apiece at halftime. Thompson getting St Mirren five
:22:47. > :22:52.minutes into the second half, but it was Paton who equalised, very calm
:22:53. > :22:55.finish, left-footed, lifting it past the goalkeeper. It was a Scottish
:22:56. > :22:59.Cup tie that was played at a ferocious pace. It never let up.
:23:00. > :23:07.Great match. They'll do it all over again at St Mirren Park.
:23:08. > :23:13.It was a traditional cup tie. Both teams had a real go at it. There was
:23:14. > :23:18.some quality play from our side today. I think the early goal
:23:19. > :23:21.against us has rocked us a bit. It took 20 minutes to get back into the
:23:22. > :23:25.game. After that, we started to make a few passes and really had a go at
:23:26. > :23:29.St Mirren. I thought it was a classic cup game. We knew that
:23:30. > :23:34.Queens would bring a lot of energy and fling everything that they had
:23:35. > :23:38.at us. They've got some good quality within that. You know, it was a game
:23:39. > :23:41.that was very much in the balance. It could have went either way. At
:23:42. > :23:44.the end of the day, it's about putting the ball in the back of the
:23:45. > :23:49.net. I'm very proud of our players and the way we come back twice. It
:23:50. > :23:52.shows great character. We found the surface a little bit more difficult
:23:53. > :23:57.than what we would like. We had to adapt to that slightly. So, we're
:23:58. > :24:02.delighted to still be in the draw. We'll look forward to the game a
:24:03. > :24:06.week on Tuesday. It's a tough place to go, you know
:24:07. > :24:10.that, you were there in the League Cup and Queen of the South beat St
:24:11. > :24:14.Mirren, but a good start from your side today. Newton got you off to a
:24:15. > :24:21.good start. Yeah, we started the game very well. On both occasions we
:24:22. > :24:27.took the lead within the match, we started to lose possession and
:24:28. > :24:35.retreat a bit and allow Queen of the South to come into the match. I
:24:36. > :24:41.think this takes a deflection. But it's good technique and a good goal
:24:42. > :24:47.and a good start. Queen of the south came more into the match and Kello,
:24:48. > :24:53.how much was he at fault in terms of the equaliser, would you say? I'll
:24:54. > :24:58.let Pat talk about that. If you're going to come that far, you either
:24:59. > :24:59.catch it or hit it a distance. He does neither there. He'll know
:25:00. > :25:04.himself, that's poor goal keeping. himself, that's poor goalkeeping.
:25:05. > :25:08.keeping. ' outstanding. By the way, he had a great game today. He will
:25:09. > :25:14.be disappointed with that. He's not made any mistakes other than that.
:25:15. > :25:17.Aip great moment for Ian ruffle there. -- Russell there. In the
:25:18. > :25:27.second half, the same story as the first. Yourself, a great run of
:25:28. > :25:36.form. Watch his movement here in the middle. Front, back, that's not in
:25:37. > :25:46.front of the goal. It's magnificent. It's Van Persie movement. It was a
:25:47. > :25:56.great move down the left side. I give Kelly a lot of cred I. It was a
:25:57. > :26:00.wonderful -- credit. The tache looking resplendent as always. Then
:26:01. > :26:06.Queen of the south back in it. Paton with the goal. St Mirren defending,
:26:07. > :26:09.could it have been better? Yeah, I think it could have been better.
:26:10. > :26:17.There's decent movement here. Two centre backs are looking around. He
:26:18. > :26:21.finds himself in the middle and it's put away really well. Superb goal. A
:26:22. > :26:27.composed finish. We need to do better than that defensively. I
:26:28. > :26:31.don't know if Steven would feel comfortable saying it, I would have
:26:32. > :26:35.felt sorry for them had they no the get back into the game. They played
:26:36. > :26:40.really well. St Mirren had great chances and didn't score. What was
:26:41. > :26:46.the mood in the dressing room after that? We were sfointed, probably
:26:47. > :26:50.more -- disappointed. Probably more with the performance. You have to
:26:51. > :26:54.give credit to Queen of the South. They were excellent today. At the
:26:55. > :26:57.end of the day, we're still in the cup. It's a plastic pitch these
:26:58. > :27:02.days. It was laid in the summer. How did you find it to play on? I don't
:27:03. > :27:06.want to make excuses about the pitch. It's difficult. It's
:27:07. > :27:13.different is what it is. The ball doesn't move the same. You would
:27:14. > :27:16.have hated it. You can't make excuses, both teams are on the
:27:17. > :27:23.pitch. We'll take them back to our place on grass. Let's move on, time
:27:24. > :27:28.for a butchers at this: After his protracted move from Inverness to
:27:29. > :27:30.Hibs, it was back up north for Terry Butcher as they travelled north to
:27:31. > :28:49.face his old rivals Ross County. Good target-man play from Collins
:28:50. > :28:58.this. Using his strength to hold the ball up for Cairney.
:28:59. > :29:06.James Collins with a free header in front of goal. The attempt from
:29:07. > :29:30.Cairney well off target. This was an opportunity for Collins.
:29:31. > :29:56.Good play from Carey. He forces the corner.
:29:57. > :30:10.The ball is in the net but the goal will not count.
:30:11. > :30:13.The whistle had gone before the ball first passed. Butcher trying to
:30:14. > :30:50.summon more from his team. A good ball in for Collins. Good
:30:51. > :30:52.challenge Brian McLean. Danny Handling! It's a breakthrough
:30:53. > :31:05.for Hibs. It's his first goal of the season.
:31:06. > :31:15.It's only Hibs 'second goal in nine games. That deserves a celebration.
:31:16. > :31:21.The teenager, on the mark, Ross County dealt with the initial
:31:22. > :31:27.threat. This was a lovely pass from Craig. Handling found some room. He
:31:28. > :31:32.made the most of it with the side-foot finish. It goes past Mark
:31:33. > :31:38.Brown. It's 1-0. Not the happiest of first halves for
:31:39. > :32:08.the Ross County manager. A freak kick goes against Cairney.
:32:09. > :32:14.And there's a reaction. A yellow card for the Hibs' midfielder.
:32:15. > :32:26.Thompson saw that as time wasting tactics from Cairney.
:32:27. > :32:35.Hibs Hibs fans in good -- Hibs fans in good voice.
:32:36. > :32:44.Robertson's shot is a disappointment for him having been gifted the
:32:45. > :32:48.opportunity. Brittain switched off for a moment there. County can't
:32:49. > :32:57.afford to do that. Another Hibs goal and it might be game over.
:32:58. > :33:06.The shot is deflected wide of target. Ross County try to turn up
:33:07. > :33:33.the heat. A flashing header from Luckassen.
:33:34. > :33:35.Really good delivery from Carey. And it cannons off the outside of the
:33:36. > :33:58.upright. Good play from Collins. Typical of
:33:59. > :34:01.his persistence and his enoosity -- tenacity and he was hopefully
:34:02. > :34:09.looking towards the referee there, as he collided with McLean. It's a
:34:10. > :34:25.fragile advantage. Great run Cairney. Down he goes.
:34:26. > :34:26.It's going to be a yellow card for Cairney. It's his second and he is
:34:27. > :34:39.off. Hibs a goal up, but now a man down.
:34:40. > :34:46.It's a big decision, this. It's gone against Terry Butcher's team.
:34:47. > :34:58.Thompson was decisive here as Brown came out and he reckons Cairney was
:34:59. > :35:02.on his way down. It's worth a close look, was there contact, should that
:35:03. > :35:18.have been a penalty. The referee thought not. Paul Cairney is off.
:35:19. > :35:28.Williams had it and lost it. He grabbed it at the second attempt.
:35:29. > :35:32.Saunders was closing in, hoping to pick up the pieces. It came back to
:35:33. > :35:54.him off Saunders. Down goes Maatsen in the box.
:35:55. > :36:02.Thompson has had a penalty claim at one end and then this at the other.
:36:03. > :36:05.There was a push from McGive earn. -- McGivern. Was it enough to send
:36:06. > :36:19.him to earth? Saunders has pulled up with an
:36:20. > :36:21.injury. James Collins for Hibs. This could tie things up. But it's
:36:22. > :36:34.deflected over the top. That could so easily have gone in.
:36:35. > :36:40.Hibs suddenly there found themselves with a big opportunity.
:36:41. > :37:03.Such an important challenge this, from Boyd. The goal scorer off.
:37:04. > :37:38.Hibs make another change. Terry Butcher supervising operations. He's
:37:39. > :37:47.making sure this happens as slowly as possible.
:37:48. > :37:51.The substitute is substituted. Caldwell is not happy. There's a
:37:52. > :37:57.tug-of-war with Terry Butcher. There will be something to be said about
:37:58. > :38:05.that, somewhere down-the-line. The fulltime whistle has gone. Hibs
:38:06. > :38:16.have their first ever win against Ross County. It's Terry Butcher's
:38:17. > :38:25.first win as Hibs manager. And they are through to the last 16 of the
:38:26. > :38:30.Scottish Cup. Ross County 0, Hibs 1. In my opinion it wasn't a yellow
:38:31. > :38:33.card. There's contact between Mark Brown and Paul Cairney, there's a
:38:34. > :38:36.mark down his shin, where the contact was made. There's two
:38:37. > :38:41.things, it's a goal kick or it's a penalty. But not a yellow card. It
:38:42. > :38:44.doesn't war ant a yellow card. Your first goal of the season and you
:38:45. > :38:52.took it well. Yeah, I didn't expect that. I thought it was offside. I
:38:53. > :38:59.saw the linesman running back to the half-way line. I thought we were
:39:00. > :39:06.very poor today. I didn't think it was a cup game I've seen at Victoria
:39:07. > :39:12.Park. I can't have too many complaints about the score even
:39:13. > :39:15.though chances were at a premium. Caldwell you took him off near the
:39:16. > :39:18.end and he wasn't happy. He wasn't happy. There were a few words
:39:19. > :39:23.exchanged in the dressing room, but he's a good player. We like him. I
:39:24. > :39:27.like him a lot. He just ran about and probably couldn't get his second
:39:28. > :39:30.wind. We thought we would make a substitutions. Collins was growing
:39:31. > :39:33.in confidence all the time and looked fit and strong. We thought we
:39:34. > :39:37.had to get somebody on the right side of midfield because they were
:39:38. > :39:41.putting in a lot of crosses. Tom was set to go on. It's disappointing
:39:42. > :39:45.when that happens. But we'll address it internally and move on. Ross is a
:39:46. > :39:48.key player for us and one that we like.
:39:49. > :39:53.Plenty of talking points, juicy ones from that one, Pat. Let's start with
:39:54. > :39:58.Ross Caldwell. What did you make of that? You feel sympathy for for kid.
:39:59. > :40:03.He's come on and wants to do his best. I think the reason he's taken
:40:04. > :40:07.him off because he's disrupting the play, stopping it. It could have
:40:08. > :40:11.been anyone at all. Have been someone else? Possibly so. If you
:40:12. > :40:14.take someone off just to be kind to Ross and that costs you a goal in
:40:15. > :40:17.the last seconds, you made the wrong decision. So Terry will do whatever
:40:18. > :40:22.he has to do, painful though it may be to get the right result for the
:40:23. > :40:28.club. As a player, there's nothing more embarrassing. I wouldn't have
:40:29. > :40:30.liked to have been him in the changing room. Terry actually has to
:40:31. > :40:35.make sure that people understand how powerful a character he is. So
:40:36. > :40:39.they've gone in there and read the riot act, everyone will have seen it
:40:40. > :40:43.and then it's finished. He wail say afterwards, he's a major part of the
:40:44. > :40:47.squad. In a way it's worked for Terry. Was it a deliberate tactic
:40:48. > :40:51.then? I wouldn't say it was deliberate to wind him up, sometimes
:40:52. > :40:54.it happens with managers. If you get somebody in and it falls on your
:40:55. > :40:59.plate that you can have that argument to put across our strong
:41:00. > :41:02.you are, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth and that's what he's
:41:03. > :41:06.done. I think he's got great stuff out of that team. How will something
:41:07. > :41:09.like that affect the dressing room? It will be forgotten about. I think
:41:10. > :41:13.Terry made that point in the interview there. He will have had a
:41:14. > :41:17.word with the boy and it will all be forgotten about now. He's paid him a
:41:18. > :41:24.compliment as well. I think they'll sweep it under the carpet. The first
:41:25. > :41:29.win for Terry Butcher, something he couldn't manage as Inverness
:41:30. > :41:33.manager. Danny Handling with his first goal of the season. There were
:41:34. > :41:40.loads of crosses in this game. This is the play, tackle there, Craig
:41:41. > :41:44.hags the captain's -- has the captain's arm band on. That's a
:41:45. > :41:48.beautiful striker's finish. The tackling high up the pitch, they've
:41:49. > :41:52.not been doing that this season. They were the same against up. High
:41:53. > :41:57.press, aggressive, but it was a wonderful first touch from Handling.
:41:58. > :42:03.A composed finish. He's been rejuvenated under Butcher as well.
:42:04. > :42:10.Ross County has been decidedly patchy at the start of the season,
:42:11. > :42:14.so far, from them. They came back into this. Luckassen had a good
:42:15. > :42:18.chance. Yeah, most of their best stuff came when Hibs were down to
:42:19. > :42:25.ten men. They're unlucky here. Hibs deserved the luck. If it's not going
:42:26. > :42:28.well for you, the team aren't playing well, and they doesn't
:42:29. > :42:33.deserve to win the game, but sometimes you can get that. In that
:42:34. > :42:39.case he was unlucky. It was a great header. Great ball. Brilliant ball.
:42:40. > :42:45.Plenty of time this season for things to go right for Ross County.
:42:46. > :42:48.Major talking point, Paul Cairney's sending off. This is the first
:42:49. > :42:53.booking. Yeah, I felt it was a wee bit unlucky here. When he picks the
:42:54. > :42:59.ball up. He takes three steps. It's not as if he's flung the ball away.
:43:00. > :43:03.There's nothing too personal there. If anything the other player reacts
:43:04. > :43:10.badly. And he didn't react to that. This is the big one. My first view,
:43:11. > :43:14.first of all, the most important thing, the referee makes a decision
:43:15. > :43:18.and he is in an absolutely fabulous position. Well done referee for
:43:19. > :43:23.getting into a good position. Great skill, running at a good angle,
:43:24. > :43:27.referee, perfect line, can't do any better, my second thought it that's
:43:28. > :43:33.a penalty. Watch it from here and I think, the keeper gets a bit... A
:43:34. > :43:36.touch. His legs are taken away from him. I don't think it's a dive. I
:43:37. > :43:44.just think he's falling. Never a dive. I didn't see him diving. He
:43:45. > :43:49.was going down, not diving. He's running out of legs. He's running
:43:50. > :43:52.out of legs? He's falling as he's going towards the keeper and the
:43:53. > :43:56.keeper has finished him off. Its not a dive. It was a very harsh yellow
:43:57. > :44:01.card. The goalkeeper gets a touch on the ball. It's in the -- in the a
:44:02. > :44:07.penalty either. A good start for Hibs under Terry Butcher. A draw
:44:08. > :44:14.against St Mirren last weekend. It's kind the start he would have needed
:44:15. > :44:19.at Hibs. It is a big job. It's a big result for them. To they have a
:44:20. > :44:24.couple of big games coming up. He's not going to turn it overnight. It's
:44:25. > :44:28.a job that takes time. He's a very good motivator. He's got the players
:44:29. > :44:36.motivated. We have saw that TVed with the energy they showed. You
:44:37. > :44:41.mentioned the energy, we saw them against Partick Thistle. We saw them
:44:42. > :44:44.against Inverness, they looked tired. I watched them in that game,
:44:45. > :44:48.I'm not saying he's made them ultra-fit over a couple of weeks,
:44:49. > :44:52.but there is improvement in attitude throughout the team and particularly
:44:53. > :44:59.the centre forward. Hibs through to the last 16. Plenty more football to
:45:00. > :45:11.come tonight. And tomorrow from Sportsscene, we bring you live
:45:12. > :45:21.scorage of the tie of the round: Then more highlights:
:45:22. > :45:26.Time for the first of our round ups and a chance to see what happens to
:45:27. > :45:39.the other Premiership clubs who played today and last night in. --
:45:40. > :45:43.last night. Inverness Cally Thistle might have been expected to see off
:45:44. > :45:49.championship truggers Morton easily. It took them until halftime to go in
:45:50. > :45:54.front. Reid penalised for this challenge on Draper. Ross doing the
:45:55. > :46:01.business with the penalty. A power cut after half -- at halftime meant
:46:02. > :46:10.a lengthy delay. Mackay put the lights out on Morton's chances of a
:46:11. > :46:19.cup shock. The Northern Irishman headed his first of the afternoon.
:46:20. > :46:23.As fulltime beckoned, Cally Thistle and Mackay struck again. Doran the
:46:24. > :46:32.supplier for Mackay's 13th goal of the season.
:46:33. > :46:39.There was still time for another, though. Agdestein was brought down
:46:40. > :46:48.by Taggart. That meant a straight red card for the Morton player. And
:46:49. > :46:55.a chance for Doran to make it four. Which he duly took. The lack of a
:46:56. > :47:03.manager not riveting Cally Thistle's mark into the last 16. ?? The future
:47:04. > :47:07.of striker Stevie May has been the subject of much speculation. The
:47:08. > :47:14.21-year-old continued his excellent run of form. A clinical finish from
:47:15. > :47:21.just outside the 18-yard box, his 12th goal of the season.
:47:22. > :47:25.The ball was bundled over the line at close range to send St Johnstone
:47:26. > :47:38.through to the last 16. Dundee United's young guns have been
:47:39. > :47:42.earning plenty of praise in recent weeks. It was no surprise when one
:47:43. > :47:49.of their brightest talents opened the scoring with a neat finish at
:47:50. > :47:54.the end of a nice move. Kilmarnock were rather gifted an
:47:55. > :48:06.equaliser. Only a couple of minutes later,
:48:07. > :48:14.Chris Johnston put them in front with this wonderful goal.
:48:15. > :48:23.The visitors wanted the game stopped for this injury to Gabriel.
:48:24. > :48:33.United didn't oblige, though. Instead they broke forward. He did
:48:34. > :48:40.well to get to the by-line before finding arm strong, who found the
:48:41. > :48:45.back of the net. Robertson may be a fullback, but he
:48:46. > :48:49.took his goal tally to four in three games, albeit with a bit of help
:48:50. > :48:58.from some questionable goalkeepering. United had their
:48:59. > :49:06.tails up by this stage. When Ryan Gold was fouled in the box by
:49:07. > :49:14.Gabriel, Graham was able to put the result beyond doubt from the spot.
:49:15. > :49:21.If that wasn't bad enough forical mash onning, more -- for Kilmarnock
:49:22. > :49:27.more sloppy defending made the victory even more emphatic.
:49:28. > :49:33.Dundee United doing more than passable impression there of Arsenal
:49:34. > :49:39.probably in those highlights with that strip on. Pat, every week we
:49:40. > :49:43.rave about Dundee United, that's nine goals in their last two games.
:49:44. > :49:48.Are we in danger of over hyping them or is it just a sheer amount of
:49:49. > :49:52.talent that's there at the moment? For a little while now they've been
:49:53. > :49:56.producing very good, talented young players. They keep coming through. I
:49:57. > :49:58.don't think it's over hype, when they're playing that well, scoring
:49:59. > :50:02.that many goals, they're not losing a lot of goals generally either,
:50:03. > :50:08.though they lost two against Kilmarnock there. Robertson is good
:50:09. > :50:11.enough. Armstrong, Stephen. In Gold there's something special. Fully
:50:12. > :50:15.paid up member of the fan club already. I met him there week, a
:50:16. > :50:20.very level headed young man, super talented, obviously. It's going to
:50:21. > :50:26.be tough for Dundee United to hold onto these guys. It is, but they
:50:27. > :50:31.have to stay and get games under their belt. Ryan is exceptional.
:50:32. > :50:34.He's been involved in seven of the nine goals that Dundee United have
:50:35. > :50:37.scored. He's pivotal to them at the minute. He's so creative,
:50:38. > :50:42.imaginative. He's a wonderful wee player. St Mirren play Dundee United
:50:43. > :50:49.on Boxing Day. Is that a date you're dreading? No, I don't think so. We
:50:50. > :50:52.lost badly to Dundee United 4-0 earlier in the season. We want to
:50:53. > :50:56.make amends for that. Normally, it would be a cup shock if a team from
:50:57. > :51:00.League One dumped out a championship side, not quite the case when that
:51:01. > :51:02.League One side is Rangers. They were visitors in the lunch time
:51:03. > :51:09.quickoff away to Falkirk. The last time they met in the
:51:10. > :51:12.Scottish Cup was only four-and-a-half years ago, but those
:51:13. > :51:19.were very different days. Then Rangers were the Premier League
:51:20. > :51:22.champions against a Falkirk side in equally buoyant mood having dodged
:51:23. > :51:29.the drop. How times have changed from that sunny May Day in 2009.
:51:30. > :52:08.The Falkirk boss won the Scottish Cup in 1997.
:52:09. > :52:18.The referee has been a category one official in 2008.
:52:19. > :52:22.Rangers are fourth favourites to win this competition behind only Celtic,
:52:23. > :52:31.Motherwell and Aberdeen. Including replays the 19th Scottish
:52:32. > :52:35.Cup meeting between the teams. Falkirk's last success over Rangers
:52:36. > :53:15.in the competition was also in the fourth round, but it was 1927.
:53:16. > :53:21.He was in the Hearts team that thumped Hibernian 5-1, a couple of
:53:22. > :54:03.seasons ago, Black. The keeper is trying to grasp the
:54:04. > :54:08.ball. I think he's got it eventually.
:54:09. > :54:30.That's Alex Smith, who won the Scottish Cup as manager of St Mirren
:54:31. > :54:39.and a few years later, as manager of Aberdeen.
:54:40. > :55:33.Clark is through. This is a big call for the referee. Now, was this
:55:34. > :55:38.inside the box? I think the referee thinks it was out. But it is a red
:55:39. > :55:47.card for Falkirk. Clark was bearing down on goal.
:55:48. > :55:54.Falkirk go to protest to the referee about the decision. It's against
:55:55. > :56:03.Stephen McCracken. The infringement was right on the 18-yard line. Clark
:56:04. > :56:04.got there first. It's been a tight, frustrating affair for most out on
:56:05. > :56:23.the pitch today. The biggest moment of the game so
:56:24. > :56:34.far, McGovern saves it. Oh, it's into the net. But the flag is up on
:56:35. > :56:35.the near side. A chance missed for McCulloch. Falkirk out of jail. But
:56:36. > :56:52.they are down to ten men. Double change coming up for Rangers
:56:53. > :57:27.in a moment. Sibbald getting in the way of the
:57:28. > :57:31.cross. While they await Sibbald to recover from his obvious distress,
:57:32. > :57:44.Rangers thought about making the changes. Peralta is going to be
:57:45. > :57:57.replaced. Templeton replaces Nicki Clark.
:57:58. > :58:03.It's been blasted off the bar. Rangers hang their heads in their
:58:04. > :58:08.hands. They're beginning to seize control
:58:09. > :58:20.of this game. Rangers have already had a Scottish
:58:21. > :58:26.Cup tie this season, against Airdrie in the last round.
:58:27. > :58:31.That was a heart in mouth moment for Rangers. Now they will make Falkirk
:58:32. > :58:48.suffer up the other end. Is It's just a goal kick.
:58:49. > :58:58.Good little spell for the neutral to watch here. Bell came out to meet
:58:59. > :59:12.Loy. They don't have you for the for -- support for Loy now.
:59:13. > :59:17.Falkirk haven't strung more than two or three passes together in this
:59:18. > :59:25.period of the game. Rangers search for the winner.
:59:26. > :59:39.Heading towards the final minute. Nicky Law puts Rangers, surely, into
:59:40. > :59:43.the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. They have knocked and knocked and
:59:44. > :59:51.knocked at the Falkirk door in the second half. Eventually, they have
:59:52. > :00:00.broken down Gary Holt's ten men. Law surely puts Rangers into Monday's
:00:01. > :00:03.draw. It's forced back to Law. The former Motherwell man fires home
:00:04. > :00:10.what is his fourth goal of the season. It looks like being the
:00:11. > :00:14.decisive goal in this Fourth Round tie. Nothing the keeper could do
:00:15. > :00:31.that time. Rangers have applied some gloss to
:00:32. > :00:39.the scoreline. They're definitely through now. Templeton, in
:00:40. > :00:43.second-half stoppage time ensures that Rangers are going into the next
:00:44. > :00:52.stage. Templeton with the header out to
:00:53. > :00:59.MacLeod, the Rangers sub continued his run. It's a more comfortable
:01:00. > :01:03.scoreline now against the ten men. The missed penalty very much out of
:01:04. > :01:06.their minds. The fifth round very much in their minds.
:01:07. > :01:13.You must be gutted about what happened in the last couple of
:01:14. > :01:19.minutes. This competition seems to throw up quite a tough feeling at
:01:20. > :01:22.the end of the games. They were excellent. Most of our boys are
:01:23. > :01:28.still teenagers, to put the effort in they did, especially when down to
:01:29. > :01:32.ten men was enm nal. Just hoping can -- phenomenal. Just hoping can they
:01:33. > :01:40.go over the line or get the replay, about Taufiq wasn't to be. -- but it
:01:41. > :01:45.wasn't to go. -- to be. Was that a penalty? I think the first contact
:01:46. > :01:49.is outside the box. I would argue that it probably has to be a sending
:01:50. > :01:56.off. It's a soft one. It's harsh, I think. It is harsh. There's a little
:01:57. > :02:01.clip on the foot as well. It starts outside the box. I don't think the
:02:02. > :02:12.clip is intentional. He goes down quite theeate Rickally. -- Theeate
:02:13. > :02:15.Rickally. -- theatrically. You should also book him as well. If
:02:16. > :02:20.you're a forward and you get in front of a centre back, you go right
:02:21. > :02:25.away, you think get in my way, I've got the right of way. It's your own
:02:26. > :02:29.fault if there's a tangle of legs. In a way I this think the referee
:02:30. > :02:35.was left with no decision to make, he had to give a sending off. I
:02:36. > :02:41.thought it was quite harsh. I don't think he meant to clip his ankle.
:02:42. > :02:47.The pull back is not enough for me to warrant a penalty. I can see both
:02:48. > :02:51.sides. What do we make of the penalty itself? Good save? It's
:02:52. > :02:58.funny, he doesn't usually take them like this. He rans at an odd -- runs
:02:59. > :03:03.at an odd angle. He comes from the side. Is he doesn't get the power
:03:04. > :03:10.in. It it's unusual for the big man to do that. The keeper guesses the
:03:11. > :03:14.right way. A wee bit lucky, maybe the big man is still offside there.
:03:15. > :03:19.In the end it made no big big difference. Credit should the keeper
:03:20. > :03:23.get there? It's a good stop. But possibly it's just a poor penalty. I
:03:24. > :03:29.don't think he will be pleased with the penalty. Credit to Falkirk
:03:30. > :03:33.marking a -- making a game of it, down to ten men. And credit to
:03:34. > :03:42.Rangers going to the last minute, keeping going and Law comes up
:03:43. > :03:45.crumbs. -- trumps. Yes, they just ran out of players there. Rangers
:03:46. > :03:50.put a lot of players in there. They are good from set pieces. The thing
:03:51. > :03:56.you have to remember, they're scoring a hell of a lot of goals. I
:03:57. > :04:01.think the 66th goal this season. Agonising there for Gary as well.
:04:02. > :04:08.Yeah, they played well. They defended well. But the pivotal
:04:09. > :04:12.moments, when Rangers are pressing in the last ten minutes and it's
:04:13. > :04:20.difficult to defend against that. They'll be disappointed to have lost
:04:21. > :04:24.the first goal from a set piece. Came on and he gets the second goal.
:04:25. > :04:28.He actually goes and shouts for the ball. He tells exactly where he
:04:29. > :04:31.wants the ball to be placed. Nice little header. Watch him in the
:04:32. > :04:35.middle, give me it there, I know what I'm doing. He's not even
:04:36. > :04:40.reached the 18-yard line and he knows what he's going to do. That
:04:41. > :04:46.shows me a player that's a really good piece of vision. It was
:04:47. > :04:49.incredibly harsh on Falkirk. He's put that team out there, who
:04:50. > :04:53.probably until the sending off, deserved at least a draw. That
:04:54. > :04:57.performance and result, how much do we gauge as to where Rangers are?
:04:58. > :05:01.They've brought in a lot of players in the SPL last season. They're in
:05:02. > :05:05.League One. Where are Rangers now? It's difficult to gauge them on one
:05:06. > :05:08.performance just now. I think with the squad that they've got, with the
:05:09. > :05:13.players they've got, they're camable of playing in the smp -- capable of
:05:14. > :05:14.playing in the SPL. Now the seven remaining matches played this
:05:15. > :05:27.afternoon. As bizarre cup goals go, Raith
:05:28. > :05:33.Rovers' is up there. Thompson's run was eventually halted on the edge of
:05:34. > :05:38.the box. Irvine and his keeper weren't exactly on the same page
:05:39. > :05:48.here. Disbelieving glances were exchanged. Rovers rejoiced.
:05:49. > :05:53.Fraserburgh have done the league proud with their exploits. But
:05:54. > :06:01.Stenhousemuir proved one challenge too many.
:06:02. > :06:07.McNeil with a mis-hit shot that ended up in the corner of the goal.
:06:08. > :06:13.On target again with number two. A long, through ball from defence.
:06:14. > :06:23.Turning inside, this time with the left foot shot. The keeper may well
:06:24. > :06:26.feel he could have done better. Fraserburgh's Scottish Cup journey
:06:27. > :06:33.ended in the final minute of the game. A long through ball, Douglas
:06:34. > :06:34.this time on target. Stenhousemuir go through. Fraserburgh head back
:06:35. > :06:45.north with their heads held high. There's nothing like a cup derby for
:06:46. > :06:51.a bit of spice and temperatures were raised from the off.
:06:52. > :06:59.Malcom seeing red for this challenge just eight minutes in.
:07:00. > :07:14.But things were evened up when Moyes was sent off for denying Templeman a
:07:15. > :07:19.goal-scoring opportunity. The breakthrough came following good
:07:20. > :07:28.work down the right. The cross was turned into the net.
:07:29. > :07:39.The tie might have been over had this header been a few inches lower.
:07:40. > :07:48.As it was, the late deflected free kick earned a replay. Even the third
:07:49. > :07:57.red card of the game, this time for Mark Baxter couldn't dampen the joy.
:07:58. > :08:04.Stirling Albion were the first to strike in this local derby. Jordan
:08:05. > :08:15.White with his glancing header. He gave Albion the lead.
:08:16. > :08:24.18-year-old Sandy Cunningham seeing red from the referee. That was after
:08:25. > :08:32.a clash with Michael Doyle. Early on in the second half, Alloa
:08:33. > :08:45.were back on level terms. Tiffoney was brought down. No mistake from
:08:46. > :08:50.the spot. They took the lead on the hour mark.
:08:51. > :08:59.Again, Tiffoney with the cross from the right-hand side, this time,
:09:00. > :09:04.Graeme Holmes with the header. In stoppage time Alloa secured their
:09:05. > :09:09.place in the last 16, this time Marr scoring from close range.
:09:10. > :09:16.Consolation for Albion with almost a last kick of the game, a stunning
:09:17. > :09:22.25-yarder from the subs unite Graham Weir -- subs unite Graham Weir --
:09:23. > :09:25.substitute Graham Weir. The speculation is not just about me,
:09:26. > :09:33.other managers. I have a job to do here. I'm happy with what I'm doing.
:09:34. > :09:40.The home side dominated the first half, yet still found themselves a
:09:41. > :09:47.goal down at halftime thanks to this terrific Geggan strike.
:09:48. > :09:52.Ayr redressed the balance after the interval. Kyle winning the knock
:09:53. > :10:05.down and Donald's low drive ensuring the teams have to do it all again.
:10:06. > :10:13.The League Two side took the lead after just eight minutes. What a
:10:14. > :10:18.free kick it was as well. Former Hibernian midfielder Currie. They
:10:19. > :10:25.were on level terms after the hour mark. A across in from -- a cross in
:10:26. > :10:36.from the right side. The ball hit the arm of defender Tulloch. And
:10:37. > :10:44.Bryan Prunty scored from the spot. Prunty was provider for goal number
:10:45. > :10:53.two. This time Megginson with a terrific left-foot shot from the
:10:54. > :10:58.edge of the 18-yard box. Dumbarton edged through to the last
:10:59. > :11:00.16 for the first time in 29 years, this time, Linton on target. A
:11:01. > :11:13.comfortable win for Murray's side. The League Two leaders Clyde got off
:11:14. > :11:19.to an excellent start in this tie. They took the lead with McDonald's
:11:20. > :11:22.well placed header. Just before halftime, Brown got
:11:23. > :11:34.himself into trouble and was punished bier a cool finish from
:11:35. > :11:41.-- for Longworth. A minute's silence before the game kicked off and extra
:11:42. > :11:45.poignant for you. I tack a wee moment to reflect on last night to
:11:46. > :11:53.be honest. Obviously, once that was over and just thoughts go out to the
:11:54. > :11:58.friends and relatives and stuff. Butch a wee moment of silence, made
:11:59. > :12:06.me reflectment I suppose it does put things into perspective. It's only a
:12:07. > :12:11.game of football. Got through the 90 minutes. Got there. That really puts
:12:12. > :12:17.everything into perspective there. It sums up the Scottish Cup in a
:12:18. > :12:21.weird way as well. It's a very real Football Focus tournament -- real
:12:22. > :12:28.football tournament. You could see in his face how it has
:12:29. > :12:31.affected him. Very brave as a fireman, what he did last night and
:12:32. > :12:34.it's a hard weekend for everyone here and throughout Scotland.
:12:35. > :12:39.Everyone's pulled together. That's the positive thing. It's something
:12:40. > :12:43.we have to do all through society. We've managed to do that this time.
:12:44. > :12:48.Thoughts obviously in the right place. But the football goes on.
:12:49. > :12:59.Absolutely. Let's talk about the own goal as well. That was strange. What
:13:00. > :13:04.do you make of it? If you watch the keeper, I don't know who to blame,
:13:05. > :13:09.the keeper or the fullback. The keeper is not watching the play. I
:13:10. > :13:15.think the fullback has the time to play it himself. But the goalkeeper
:13:16. > :13:18.is not focussed there. The keeper thinks it's a penalty or sending
:13:19. > :13:24.off. He's shouting at the referee. He's made a mistake. He's at fault.
:13:25. > :13:29.Number two and it was the number two, pass the ball back, the oldest
:13:30. > :13:33.one in the book, you pass it outside the goal post. Number three,
:13:34. > :13:39.referee, well done, you let the play go on. Most to blame for you? I
:13:40. > :13:43.don't know after all that, the keeper. 25 minutes of November left
:13:44. > :13:52.to go. It's only appropriate that I give you this. Thank you very much.
:13:53. > :13:56.Will you miss it? The moustache? No, No, I won't. I won't miss it. It's
:13:57. > :14:00.coming off as soon as I get in the house. But we've raised money for
:14:01. > :14:04.the charity. I'm not sure if I'm happy to see the back of it or not.
:14:05. > :14:18.Four replays in about ten days' time. Let's look at them:
:14:19. > :14:26.And we're back tomorrow afternoon with live coverage of Hearts versus
:14:27. > :14:30.Celtic. Join us at 2. 45pm on BBC One. It's like Christmas came early
:14:31. > :14:35.for fans of Scottish football. The Scottish Cup Fourth Round, the
:14:36. > :14:39.lights went out at one stadium, and a whacky own goal and we do it all
:14:40. > :14:45.again with more highlights as with edrawn a line under the weekend's
:14:46. > :14:50.action. But for now, from all of us, good night.
