:00:31. > :00:59.It is Anderson. The ball ends up in the back of the net. Frazer Wright.

:01:00. > :01:10.What a goal from Nigel Hasselbaink. That was a wonderful counterattack

:01:11. > :01:16.from Dundee United. It will be Dundee United against St Johnstone

:01:17. > :01:20.at Celtic Park on May the 17th. Nadir Ciftci is round the goalkeeper

:01:21. > :01:27.and will surely take Dundee United to the Scottish Cup Final. Stevie

:01:28. > :01:40.May might have fired St Johnstone into their first-ever Scottish Cup

:01:41. > :01:47.Final. Let battle commence. It is the 2014 Scottish Cup Final. The big

:01:48. > :01:50.matches totally Tayside. St Johnstone are sampling the special

:01:51. > :01:55.occasion for the first time in their history. Dundee United are looking

:01:56. > :02:00.to do what they did for seasons back and then the season in the best

:02:01. > :02:04.possible way. Will there be blue and white ribbons on the Scottish Cup

:02:05. > :02:15.later today, or will we be talking hand during? This Scottish Cup has

:02:16. > :02:21.been subtitled, the road to Celtic Park. Hampden Park is getting its

:02:22. > :02:26.Commonwealth games make over. It was here that Aberdeen won the League

:02:27. > :02:33.Cup. Last weekend, Celtic picked up their prizes Scottish Premiership

:02:34. > :02:45.winners. In the next few hours, another name will go down on this

:02:46. > :02:49.season's footballer honours list. The word Saint and Johnstone do not

:02:50. > :02:58.appear on this special piece of silverware. This is uncharted

:02:59. > :03:01.territory for the Perth team. Your essential cup coverage is right

:03:02. > :03:04.territory for the Perth team. Your on the BBC. Michael Stewart is with

:03:05. > :03:10.me in the studio, and so is the man who won the Scottish Cup for Dundee

:03:11. > :03:14.United 20 years ago. Craig Brewster says he blasted the winner home from

:03:15. > :03:21.25 yards. Amazing how time distorts the truth. Not at all. It was an

:03:22. > :03:26.amazing day. It feels like yesterday. The club had been in six

:03:27. > :03:32.cup finals and never been victorious. It was a 25 yarder

:03:33. > :03:38.courtesy of Allan Preston which helped send St Johnstone to the

:03:39. > :03:43.League Cup final of 1998. He is perfectly balanced guest. He played

:03:44. > :03:49.for both teams. Are you torn between them? Not at all. It will be great

:03:50. > :03:55.first and Johnstone. They have a tremendous chairman. He is backing

:03:56. > :04:01.St Johnstone and we are more than a hundred minutes from kick-off. The

:04:02. > :04:07.build-up is big. All those dreams, all that drama. Jonathan will talk

:04:08. > :04:13.us through the definitive story of this season's Scottish Cup. How do

:04:14. > :04:25.you fancy a Cosgrove carry out? Stewart goes back to his beloved

:04:26. > :04:28.parents. -- Perth. The agony and the ecstasy. The Scottish Cup has

:04:29. > :04:36.sparked mixed emotions for Dundee United fans over the years. Stevie

:04:37. > :04:41.May and David Wotherspoon are local lives on the trail of glory. There

:04:42. > :04:50.is comic content as we introduce some newly drawn cartoon characters.

:04:51. > :04:54.We some newly drawn cartoon characters.

:04:55. > :05:03.to work out how the cup final might be won and lost. And then it

:05:04. > :05:12.to work out how the cup final might supporters made now in 90 minutes

:05:13. > :05:18.to work out how the cup final might takes, watch it with us, the 2014

:05:19. > :05:22.William Hill Scottish Cup Final. Your coaching today. But you have

:05:23. > :05:28.seen an off of Dundee United this season to know that the exciting?

:05:29. > :05:33.Very much. When they get the ball down and pass it, they have good

:05:34. > :05:38.energy. They can make it difficult for the opposition on the day. They

:05:39. > :05:42.need to produce their best form. Some would say it is written in the

:05:43. > :05:49.stars for St Johnstone in their first-ever Scottish Cup Final? I

:05:50. > :05:57.would agree, the 17th of May, today's date, Stevie May, 17, it is

:05:58. > :06:02.all written for them. I think St Johnstone can edge this with their

:06:03. > :06:07.strength. I think people feared for the attendance at the time of the

:06:08. > :06:13.semifinals, but we are talking about 28,004 Dundee United, 15,001st in

:06:14. > :06:21.Johnstone and the neutrals. 50,000 in total. Yes, that was spoken about

:06:22. > :06:28.a lot. Everyone has got behind the final. They are really enthusiastic

:06:29. > :06:33.about it. It will be a tight game. There will not be much in it. St

:06:34. > :06:41.Johnstone are more physical than Dundee United. Dundee United are

:06:42. > :06:48.fantastic footballing team. It will be enjoyable to watch. St Mirren

:06:49. > :06:52.striker Steven Thompson is part of the team as well. He knows how a

:06:53. > :06:57.trophy can change the complexion of the season. He will be alongside our

:06:58. > :07:03.match commentator, Liam McLeod. Good afternoon. You could forgive

:07:04. > :07:09.these two teams for having slow ends to the season. It is one win in five

:07:10. > :07:14.for both of them after the split. This is a massive deal for both

:07:15. > :07:20.clubs. Dundee United can score goals. 12 times they have managed to

:07:21. > :07:25.score four or more. One of their victims was St Johnstone in August.

:07:26. > :07:33.As Michael was hinting, since then, Saints have the upper hands. -- the

:07:34. > :07:37.upper hand. Today is a one-off. I think the players will have been

:07:38. > :07:43.thinking of nothing but this game for weeks. Their preparation will be

:07:44. > :07:48.meticulous. Coming into a cup final, the game in the past have no

:07:49. > :07:53.bearing. The Dundee United players are just arriving. We are expecting

:07:54. > :07:59.the St Johnstone team to be similar if not the same to the one that beat

:08:00. > :08:02.Aberdeen in the semifinals. Stevie May has made all the headlines this

:08:03. > :08:09.week, not just because of his name and the date. He has had a

:08:10. > :08:14.phenomenal season. I personally think his strike partner does not

:08:15. > :08:18.get enough credit, Steven McLean. He is vital to the way that St

:08:19. > :08:26.Johnstone play. He links the play. He is a big player for them. Stevie

:08:27. > :08:31.May got the goals in the semifinal. Steven McLean was superb as well.

:08:32. > :08:44.The formation for St Johnstone has been the same all season. Yes, but

:08:45. > :08:49.Dundee United have intelligent players. Paul Paton and John Rankin

:08:50. > :08:56.do an excellent job. They allow everyone else to get forward. Gary

:08:57. > :09:01.Mackay-Steven is a threat, Robertson on the outside of him. Both teams

:09:02. > :09:04.have exciting former players. We will have the team News about two

:09:05. > :09:12.o'clock. If you're coming to the game and a

:09:13. > :09:18.strange man approaches you with a microphone and a Cameron -- and a

:09:19. > :09:23.camera behind them, worry not, it is Jim Spence.

:09:24. > :09:26.The business today is all about taking the Scottish Cup home. Who

:09:27. > :09:33.will it be? I will be speaking to the fans shortly. This is all about

:09:34. > :09:37.St Johnstone and Dundee United. St Johnstone or in their first-ever

:09:38. > :09:43.Scottish Cup Final. Dundee United are trying to win for the first

:09:44. > :09:48.time. Will the Scottish Cup beheading the Perth or Tannadice

:09:49. > :09:52.Park? One thing is for sure, whichever of these teams wins the

:09:53. > :09:56.Scottish Cup, tonight the famous old trophy will be resting somewhere on

:09:57. > :10:04.Tayside. As you saw in the background, Dundee

:10:05. > :10:08.United are the early. They are getting a feel for Celtic Park. He

:10:09. > :10:13.knows that playing surface well. He was started in the past for Celtic,

:10:14. > :10:19.Jackie McNamara, the Dundee United manager. They will be happy with

:10:20. > :10:24.what BC in terms of the playing surface. Looks pristine. Jonathan

:10:25. > :10:30.Sutherland is the man that will take you on a date tour of this season's

:10:31. > :10:39.competition. The road to the final, right from the start. He is going

:10:40. > :10:43.back even further. May 2013 saw 50,000 fans descend on

:10:44. > :10:48.Hampden Park. Hibernian were out to avenge their defeat the previous

:10:49. > :10:55.year. They met an unsympathetic Celtic side out to complete the

:10:56. > :11:07.double. It is green and white from the West against green and white

:11:08. > :11:17.from the East. Gary Hooper scores the opening goal. Gary Hooper again.

:11:18. > :11:29.That might be the goal that takes the Scottish Cup to Parkhead. It is

:11:30. > :11:34.party time for Celtic. Once again, the Scottish Cup belongs to Celtic.

:11:35. > :11:39.The oldest national trophy in world football brought back here once

:11:40. > :11:47.again. With Hampden Park out of commission, this is where the final

:11:48. > :11:53.will be played. Only to make teams remain in the competition. September

:11:54. > :11:59.sorrow and one get underway. The non-league clubs took centre stage.

:12:00. > :12:21.This meant a 600 mile round trip for this team. Coldstream were mauled.

:12:22. > :12:30.This was the goal of the game. It was scored by the skipper. Handbags

:12:31. > :12:37.and marching orders before the end. 600 miles for six schools is sound

:12:38. > :12:49.economics for any football fan. -- six goals. It was the Glasgow

:12:50. > :12:56.students that went into the lead in this fixture. Paul Gallacher with

:12:57. > :13:09.the strike. The opposition responded, equalised, and then find

:13:10. > :13:13.the winner. This was a non-league Edinburgh derby. Spartans went

:13:14. > :14:06.through to fight another day. More later as they rode to the final

:14:07. > :14:07.continues. Getting Stuart Cosgrove to speak

:14:08. > :14:10.continues. Getting Stuart Cosgrove to about St Johnstone is never a

:14:11. > :14:15.problem. Especially with them limbering up for their first-ever

:14:16. > :14:18.Scottish Cup Final. I have supported St Johnstone

:14:19. > :14:22.throughout my entire life and remarkably it has taken hundred and

:14:23. > :14:28.13 years to reach their first-ever Scottish Cup Final. It is unlock the

:14:29. > :14:33.sense of celebration in Perth. I wanted to go home to find out why St

:14:34. > :14:40.Johnstone are so special to the city, and why they are the perfect

:14:41. > :14:47.community club. This is the first sign that you see when you come into

:14:48. > :14:52.the town. May the 17th, I'm the back of the jersey of Stevie May. He

:14:53. > :14:53.scored the goals to take St Johnstone to their first ever cup

:14:54. > :15:17.final. The first stopping point is the only

:15:18. > :15:21.place in Perth you're guaranteed to find Chinese lookalikes of Stevie

:15:22. > :15:32.May. Tell us about this dish you have created for the final. It

:15:33. > :15:40.contains chicken. It is to celebrate the final and getting behind the

:15:41. > :15:45.home team. I have never felt that Perth has come together as much as

:15:46. > :15:48.it has. There is a general well-being within the community.

:15:49. > :15:55.Nothing has brought us all together like this. Where did the idea of the

:15:56. > :16:07.weeks come from? What wakes? This is our real hair! You have got the

:16:08. > :16:10.Dundee United ones as well. I am from the BBC, and environmental

:16:11. > :16:17.health, and you are being arrested for selling Dundee United kicks. A

:16:18. > :16:21.lot of people will be saying that. The Dundee United ones are not

:16:22. > :16:32.selling. They are not doing too well, I must admit. It is pretty

:16:33. > :16:41.clear they have not sold enough. I am standing at what was once known

:16:42. > :16:46.the second round of St Johnstone. Back in the 80s, we were mocked for

:16:47. > :16:49.selling out to a supermarket chain, but it turned out to be the best bit

:16:50. > :16:55.of business St Johnstone has ever done. What a chance. St Johnstone

:16:56. > :17:21.are back! There is only one player that the

:17:22. > :17:29.fans universally called the legend. They see you giving your all in the

:17:30. > :17:41.park. The team today, that is what they are all like. It has carried on

:17:42. > :17:46.down to the town as well. Someone is always looking for a replica shirt

:17:47. > :18:00.or a scarf and tickets are already going like gold dust. It is just

:18:01. > :18:06.fantastic to see. Here eye and with a man who has a glorious nickname.

:18:07. > :18:11.What are your feelings about the final? A lot of excitement, to be

:18:12. > :18:19.honest. It has been a long time coming. We do not get the chance to

:18:20. > :18:29.play in Cup finals very often. Really looking forward to it. The

:18:30. > :18:33.first day the tickets went on sale here, people were queuing up to buy

:18:34. > :18:41.tickets at eight o'clock in the morning. It is fantastic. A lot of

:18:42. > :18:53.local business and support. Hope we can reward them. Thank you.

:18:54. > :19:00.He has a tear in his eye and he will be excited as kick-off approaches.

:19:01. > :19:06.You are watching the BBC build-up to the big match. Why are St Johnstone

:19:07. > :19:13.called St Johnstone? Because they come from Saint John's town. You are

:19:14. > :19:20.amazing. Tell me about the club and Tommy about how much this means to

:19:21. > :19:27.them. -- tell me. Younger Christopher has been there a long

:19:28. > :19:36.time. A real family environment. A wonderful club to be at. They do not

:19:37. > :19:40.stress anything up. For me, they deserve a day like this. It will

:19:41. > :19:46.bring a tear to the eye. If St Johnstone when, someone might break

:19:47. > :19:51.down. They beat Rosenberg in Europe weight back when. I can barely

:19:52. > :19:56.remember it. It could be a special ending for the season as well. I

:19:57. > :20:02.think they have the advantage of having beat in the United States

:20:03. > :20:08.Times out of four. Psychologically, -- beat Dundee United three times

:20:09. > :20:22.out of four. An amazing spike the goal Cup Final, but they are

:20:23. > :20:27.believing that they can win. You have a lot of facts. We heard

:20:28. > :20:32.earlier from Mackay and Anderson. So much experience the core of that

:20:33. > :20:38.defence. Could that be decisive today is the Mark they are going to

:20:39. > :20:42.be up against -- decisive today? They are going to have to defend

:20:43. > :20:49.well, but they have done that all season. Dundee United are an

:20:50. > :20:52.expensive playing team and St Johnstone are built on a strong

:20:53. > :20:59.foundation and they have got that threat up front with MacLean at help

:21:00. > :21:07.them out. It is going to get busier and busier outside as we can hear

:21:08. > :21:13.the pipes in the background as the fans begin to assemble outside

:21:14. > :21:23.Celtic Park. The Scottish Cup 2014 approaching. Let's get back outside.

:21:24. > :21:30.We are with Lavern Kelley -- Lorraine Kelly. I am so nervous

:21:31. > :21:36.today. I always get nervous, though. I am shaky. Look, I have done my

:21:37. > :21:42.nails. I am head to toe in tangerine. It is pretty bright,

:21:43. > :21:47.isn't it? I got these shoes 20 years ago and I am hoping they will bring

:21:48. > :21:49.us luck. It is all about the shoes. You are the key man?

:21:50. > :21:54.us luck. It is all about the shoes. If we can play the way we know that

:21:55. > :22:05.we can, and what I love about that, our babies, nothing frightens them,

:22:06. > :22:12.they will really just go for it. What do you think it would mean for

:22:13. > :22:15.them to win Mister Mark it means the world -- when it? It means the world

:22:16. > :22:20.and a big party tonight and probably for the next year. It means

:22:21. > :22:26.everything. I am just asking for them to give their best, that is all

:22:27. > :22:32.you can ask of the team, and I a will. Give us your score prediction.

:22:33. > :22:37.I cannot. I do not want to jinx it. She told me earlier

:22:38. > :22:40.I cannot. I do not want to jinx it. first lady of television, Lorraine

:22:41. > :22:45.Kelly. The Scottish Cup flashback is always

:22:46. > :22:51.right of the build-up to the main event. Round 24 Albion Rovers

:22:52. > :23:01.signaled the start of the fairy tale. -- round two.

:23:02. > :23:08.signaled the start of the fairy So often the site of shock in the

:23:09. > :23:18.signaled the start of the fairy play a Rovers side. It was a close

:23:19. > :23:24.affair. One play a Rovers side. It was a close

:23:25. > :23:26.teams. The Cup play a Rovers side. It was a close

:23:27. > :23:29.begun her for Albion. play a Rovers side. It was a close

:23:30. > :23:40.master class for the play a Rovers side. It was a close

:23:41. > :23:47.opened the scoring with a kick. Harris added a second from close

:23:48. > :23:54.range. Both teams would score before the hat trick was completed. A wild

:23:55. > :24:08.lunge. Clyde are awarded a free kick, which

:24:09. > :24:13.is taken by the left back. It is a goal. The first and only goal of the

:24:14. > :24:25.match. What a day for Clyde, as Anderson holds the Cup.

:24:26. > :24:28.They had the honour of having their names etched on the Scottish Cup

:24:29. > :24:40.three times, but the last was in the 1950s. Light would emerge with a 3-0

:24:41. > :24:52.win. -- Clyde. Stuart Macomber would round off the victory in the 90th

:24:53. > :24:58.minute. The Highland league Derby, and the home side were lucky not to

:24:59. > :25:04.take the lead. More clinical in front of goal. A former striker put

:25:05. > :25:12.to the visitors in front after just six minutes. Their place was as sure

:25:13. > :25:25.it when a 25 yard volley was cracked after 20 minutes.

:25:26. > :25:47.The road to Birkhead has started to gain momentum.

:25:48. > :25:53.We saw Dundee United and the edge of the Tibet earlier. They were here

:25:54. > :25:55.early. St Johnstone are here now. -- edge of the pitch. Is the 50th game

:25:56. > :26:10.for this man in charge. Its fate going to be smiling on them

:26:11. > :26:15.today? I wonder. Let's get back outside, with a chance for Spencer

:26:16. > :26:21.to prove he is king of the chat. Girl, you are all looking lovely

:26:22. > :26:29.today. What is going to happen today? We are going to win.

:26:30. > :26:36.Confident! Yes stop the sugar yes. A landslide. You have been rehearsing

:26:37. > :26:43.this. -- yes. A landslide. You have been rehearsing this. What do you

:26:44. > :26:53.think, ladies? Armstrong. Ciftci. He is a handsome fellow. It is going to

:26:54. > :26:58.be a great day for stop -- great day. Lots of support. What will it

:26:59. > :27:02.be like in that the if they win? It is going to be mental. Parties.

:27:03. > :27:09.Where are you from? Why are you here? Why on earth would you not be

:27:10. > :27:13.here? Where else would you be in Scotland today. You are you

:27:14. > :27:21.supporting? I am not supporting anyone. I am just hoping for a good

:27:22. > :27:25.game. Excellent. Good man. The first part of any bag pipe tune

:27:26. > :27:48.is blowing up the bag. Bag pipe to soundtrack the Scottish

:27:49. > :27:55.Cup final. Rooster has a place in the hearts of Dundee United fans. --

:27:56. > :28:00.Brewster. Do not take my word for it. Here is the full history. Dundee

:28:01. > :28:07.United have a great footballing tradition and they enjoyed a steady

:28:08. > :28:12.stream of great football over the years. This will be the 10th

:28:13. > :28:21.Scottish Cup final. Remarkably, it was 1974 before they researched --

:28:22. > :28:29.reached the first one. This is the story of their Cup history.

:28:30. > :28:34.A big game for Dundee United, the Cup Final, Jim McLean getting an

:28:35. > :28:38.opportunity to win his first trophy as a manager. That was maybe a

:28:39. > :28:47.factor in the game as much as anything else. We were delighted to

:28:48. > :28:54.get there. A replay in 1981 saw Rangers victors. It is fantastic

:28:55. > :29:05.when you have the crowd behind you. They were mass favourites. --

:29:06. > :29:14.massive favourites. It was massive. You had the whole season. The

:29:15. > :29:19.players got over it a lot quicker than the manager. He hated getting

:29:20. > :29:30.beat. Four years later, it was Celtic who brought United house. We

:29:31. > :29:41.looked as if we were going to break up dock. Then we equalised. The

:29:42. > :29:47.Celtic fans seemed to take over. That caused a bit of a problem. Even

:29:48. > :29:55.when United were favourites, could not get their hands on the

:29:56. > :30:00.trophy. We were doing well in the league and most of the Cup

:30:01. > :30:12.competitions. We were confident. We were in the final. Nine times out of

:30:13. > :30:21.ten we would have beaten them. Celtic came from behind late on to

:30:22. > :30:25.take the silverware in 1988. It was the final nail in the coffin. That

:30:26. > :30:31.is when user thinking that it might not be every year that we get back.

:30:32. > :30:38.-- you start thinking. United for the bridesmaid again. -- United were

:30:39. > :30:45.the bridesmaid again. It was heartbreaking for us. You have to

:30:46. > :30:57.give them full credit there. They were galvanized again and again and

:30:58. > :31:03.got the dodgy winner. I actually got the winners medal. They give us the

:31:04. > :31:12.wrong medals. That made it worse. We had to give the medals back. After

:31:13. > :31:23.six final losses, United finalists -- finally broke the Scottish Cup

:31:24. > :31:27.hoodoo. It made you appreciate what it meant. What everyone had gone

:31:28. > :31:35.through, the United fans, the heartache. It was such a great

:31:36. > :31:44.feeling. It was a great feeling to get the cup. It was relief. It is

:31:45. > :31:45.what football is about. We felt like world beaters. We could play anyone

:31:46. > :31:52.what football is about. We felt like and feel like we were growing to be

:31:53. > :31:56.done. And Alan Thompson free kick in 2005 brought more Scottish Cup Final

:31:57. > :32:03.climb, but five years later, it was a beautiful bay at hand and for the

:32:04. > :32:12.Tangerines. -- a beautiful beer Hamden Park. The players did really

:32:13. > :32:19.well. I was a nervous wreck before the game. All the

:32:20. > :32:19.well. I was a nervous wreck before us. We had fantastic support. We

:32:20. > :32:24.settled after the first goal, us. We had fantastic support. We

:32:25. > :32:26.what a goal from David Goodwillie. Just

:32:27. > :32:30.what a goal from David Goodwillie. the smiles on their faces. I

:32:31. > :32:39.remember the civic reception in Dundee. These are memories that will

:32:40. > :32:44.never be forgotten. I am looking forward to the final, every one is.

:32:45. > :32:52.The fans are up for it as well. I want to see us get the victory. It

:32:53. > :32:59.would be great to walk up as captain and lift the trophy. For myself, the

:33:00. > :33:07.team, the staff, everyone at the club, and most importantly, the

:33:08. > :33:13.fans, I want them to enjoy their summer. We will talk about Dundee

:33:14. > :33:22.United in a moment, but let's have a look at St Johnstone. It is such a

:33:23. > :33:26.historic occasion for the club. Some of these players were slapping the

:33:27. > :33:30.moment on their phones, just to record it. Babies Stevie May. Could

:33:31. > :33:35.he play a crucial role this afternoon? It is the first time in

:33:36. > :33:43.more than 100 years of existence that they are through to this

:33:44. > :33:54.special showpiece. We heard there from David. He likes a laugh. Yes,

:33:55. > :33:59.he certainly does. When we played in the final, I had my nice sit on.

:34:00. > :34:05.When I opened the door to the dressing room, he threw a bucket of

:34:06. > :34:09.water over me. It was ridiculous. You were obviously feeling the pain

:34:10. > :34:16.as we went back through those Dundee United years. You world his Lear

:34:17. > :34:31.fan. You lived through lots of that. Yes, I was at the finals from the

:34:32. > :34:38.early 1980s. Some amazing game. When we eventually won, it was brilliant

:34:39. > :34:43.for the boys that had sampled defeat after defeat. It was a joyous day.

:34:44. > :34:50.The manager persuaded you that you could do anything? Yes, he believed

:34:51. > :34:57.in his players. We beat Rangers at Ibrox 3-0 that season. It was

:34:58. > :35:03.psychological. We knew that we could beat Rangers. He was saying all the

:35:04. > :35:09.time, we are going to win the cup, and it came true. It is bad enough

:35:10. > :35:13.losing the cart several times over for Dundee United, but especially

:35:14. > :35:21.when the man from the Football Association gives you the wrong

:35:22. > :35:27.medal. It was devastating. He came knocking on the door and said, can

:35:28. > :35:32.you hand the medals back. I wonder what sort of reaction he got? It was

:35:33. > :35:38.very disappointing. Dundee United are big club in Scotland. You want

:35:39. > :35:45.to see the steam is doing well. This season, they have played fantastic

:35:46. > :35:51.football. I wonder who the next guest is on the Jim Spence shall?

:35:52. > :36:00.Let's find out. We are outside with Eve Muirhead, or Olympic Curragh.

:36:01. > :36:08.She is a St Johnstone fan. I really think we will do well. We have had a

:36:09. > :36:12.good run-up this final. It has been to refix season for them. Everyone

:36:13. > :36:18.is looking to Stevie May as the talisman. He has had a great Steve

:36:19. > :36:22.-- a great season. I know him quite well. I think he is confident, and

:36:23. > :36:27.hopefully he can get the winning goals. There will be a lot of

:36:28. > :36:33.pressure on the gallows. They are the underdogs. How do you handle

:36:34. > :36:42.this top level pressure? What is the mentality? I think the hard work has

:36:43. > :36:48.been done. It is basically finishing off the job. It is keeping the same

:36:49. > :36:53.routine. Do not change too much. We found that worked well for us, not

:36:54. > :36:58.changing the routine. If they can keep the winning formula going, it

:36:59. > :37:05.will be good. It is the first Scottish Cup Final for St Johnstone.

:37:06. > :37:11.What will it mean to the city? It would be massive. Perth is buzzing.

:37:12. > :37:15.Everything is decorated in blue and white. It will be massive for the

:37:16. > :37:21.club. It is great that they have got to the final. This is a lady who

:37:22. > :37:27.knows about success, so I will not argue with her. Thank you.

:37:28. > :37:31.Round three of this season's Scottish Cup was the stage where

:37:32. > :37:42.Rangers entered the fray. The guessing game began about how far

:37:43. > :37:50.they might go. Natural novel. -- Nacho Novo. That was a touch of

:37:51. > :37:56.genius. The third round welcome some big names into the drop, none more

:37:57. > :38:03.so than Rangers. The zero that day in 2009 was back at Hampden Park to

:38:04. > :38:06.deliver his side's fate. Rangers were drawn against Airdrie. They

:38:07. > :38:15.should the same killer instinct that they had in the league. Jon Daly was

:38:16. > :38:27.the hero in a routine victory for Rangers. Two well taken goals. Then

:38:28. > :38:37.the substitute added a third. 3-0, Rangers comfortably into the next

:38:38. > :38:52.round. Then Berwick Rangers came to town. 600 hardy souls braved the

:38:53. > :39:00.elements. The game went to a replay. This own goal meant that a replay

:39:01. > :39:09.was on the cards. Seven days later, they met again. This time, the tie

:39:10. > :39:22.was in no doubt. Berwick Rangers added a second goal. This composed

:39:23. > :39:34.finish made it 3-0. Berwick Rangers into the draw. Montrose travel.

:39:35. > :39:45.Because the meat Fraserburgh. -- Montrose travel to meet Fraserburgh.

:39:46. > :39:58.As the weather worsened, the Highland league side levelled. This

:39:59. > :40:03.was the winner for the hosts, right at the death, as the heavens opened.

:40:04. > :40:09.Sir Alex Ferguson made the draw for the fourth round. He finished his

:40:10. > :40:29.playing days at Ayr United, and they beat his first club, Queen's Park.

:40:30. > :40:33.Some great moments from the early stages of this Scottish Cup

:40:34. > :40:38.competition. Today, it is all stages of this Scottish Cup

:40:39. > :40:43.the final. St Johnstone against Dundee United. Let's find out what

:40:44. > :40:49.the fans are reckoning will happen today.

:40:50. > :40:53.These are very lively bunch of St Johnstone supporters. How will this

:40:54. > :40:58.pan out today? I think it will be even, it is difficult to call. But

:40:59. > :41:05.with Stevie May, I think we can manage it. Do you agree with that?

:41:06. > :41:12.Stevie May is the talisman? Years indeed. What are his strength? He is

:41:13. > :41:21.really fit and fast. He can get past defenders. He is young and has a

:41:22. > :41:26.long way to go in his career. I am with a bunch of Arabs. How is it

:41:27. > :41:34.going to go today? It is definitely going to be Dundee United's day. We

:41:35. > :41:40.are too good at midfield, with Nadir Ciftci upfront. Do you share that

:41:41. > :41:47.are too good at midfield, with Nadir view? Yes, come on Dundee United. I

:41:48. > :41:51.am hopeful today. St Johnstone are decent team, but I think we will

:41:52. > :41:55.rise to the occasion. What would it mean

:41:56. > :41:58.rise to the occasion. What would it everything. Will you be celebrating

:41:59. > :42:07.tomorrow if you win this? Definitely. Give me a score

:42:08. > :42:16.prediction. 2-1, United. 3-1 United. Enjoy today. Lots of love for Stevie

:42:17. > :42:25.May foreign -- from the St Johnstone fans. Stevie May and David

:42:26. > :42:31.Wotherspoon are both local lads who want to make Perth proud. It has

:42:32. > :42:39.been a long time coming, but after 113 years, St Johnstone have reached

:42:40. > :42:44.the final of the Scottish Cup. It is especially meaningful for

:42:45. > :42:50.there to Perth born players. I started at the academy when I was

:42:51. > :42:54.12. It was enjoyable, coming through. It made it more special

:42:55. > :43:02.when I eventually managed to play my first game. I was here when I was

:43:03. > :43:06.about 12 years old. I trained with the youth team at that point. I'll

:43:07. > :43:23.was supported St Johnstone when I was young. We got into Europe,

:43:24. > :43:29.playing against Monaco. At the time, I was watching quite

:43:30. > :43:35.faithfully. Those are my happiest moments. It is a massive occasion

:43:36. > :43:38.for Perth, and for the club. When you turn up to training and you turn

:43:39. > :43:43.up to training and UCD cues coming out of the stands, it is great. All

:43:44. > :43:49.the people say hello when you walk past. They are happy and buzzing. A

:43:50. > :43:55.League Cup semifinal against Aberdeen did not go to plan for St

:43:56. > :44:00.Johnstone. When teams The Met again in the Scottish Cup, Saints were

:44:01. > :44:06.determined to make amends. When we got the first goal, that is when I

:44:07. > :44:14.thought, this could be our time. Thankfully, the Scottish Cup went

:44:15. > :44:19.better than the League Cup. A lovely touch from Stevie May. He might just

:44:20. > :44:24.have fired St Johnstone into their first-ever Scottish Cup Final. St

:44:25. > :44:35.Johnstone will be going to the final on May the 17th. Everything really

:44:36. > :44:47.clicked before the semifinal. When we got through, somebody said to me,

:44:48. > :44:51.and it clicked. The omens are looking good for the St Johnstone

:44:52. > :44:59.talisman. He is hoping to add to his tally. Everything is about hitting

:45:00. > :45:05.the back of the net. I can be happy if we win, but I am disappointed if

:45:06. > :45:07.I do not score goals. David Wotherspoon joined his boyhood

:45:08. > :45:14.heroes after four years at Hibernian. The fans will remember me

:45:15. > :45:20.for scoring against Hearts. It was a massive deflection, but I will take

:45:21. > :45:24.it. David Wotherspoon was distraught to be dropped for the big day at

:45:25. > :45:29.Hampden Park after helping his side to the final. I just wanted to be

:45:30. > :45:37.part of it. It is a massive occasion. Luckily I have another

:45:38. > :45:42.chance. My football has been consistent, I feel, through the

:45:43. > :45:48.season. I think that is down to the boys, and obviously the manager as

:45:49. > :45:56.well. He believes in me, which is what I need. The manager has been

:45:57. > :46:00.great. This is the most successful season we have ever had, I

:46:01. > :46:14.semifinal, a final, and in the top six.

:46:15. > :46:24.The last three years we have managed to beat them. Anything can happen.

:46:25. > :46:34.On that day, who performs best will be left in the Cup. We would be

:46:35. > :46:41.heroes, I'd think. Not just one of us, but all of us.

:46:42. > :46:47.Wotherspoon seems like a player reborn, back with home team, and

:46:48. > :46:58.Steve is macro is having an amazing season. -- Steve May. He just wants

:46:59. > :47:05.to score goals. It is important here. He fires that ball forward. He

:47:06. > :47:11.wants to get in and have a shot on goal. Everything about the guy

:47:12. > :47:16.wants to get in and have a shot on direct. He wants to score goals. Set

:47:17. > :47:25.pieces, he is sniffing out chances. Great feet as well. You see it on

:47:26. > :47:31.this angle. When it drops to him, he has defenders all around him, he

:47:32. > :47:39.shifts it, right but, finds the back of the net. A great play by May. A

:47:40. > :47:50.wake-up play will stop you notice -- plate. Great player. He is almost

:47:51. > :47:57.looking for this ball. He wins the ball in the air. An intelligent

:47:58. > :48:02.player. He gets an early shot fired off. No chance to save its because

:48:03. > :48:07.of that early strike. Anytime he gets the ball he is straight at the

:48:08. > :48:11.goal. He is 21. You have to remind yourself that this is his first full

:48:12. > :48:25.season of top-flight football. It is amazing. 27 goals is an amazing

:48:26. > :48:31.contribution. He was out on loan. 40 goals at another club. Hamilton.

:48:32. > :48:37.Over 40 goals for the two clubs. He scored 27 goals and he is going to

:48:38. > :48:41.get stronger and stronger. It will be difficult for St Johnstone to

:48:42. > :48:49.hold on to him during the summer. His development has been amazing and

:48:50. > :48:54.dramatic. I believe he wants to stay at the club and he will get an

:48:55. > :48:59.extension. He is a terrific young player, Young player of the year

:49:00. > :49:05.this year as well, so he has a major part to play. Let's go back to our

:49:06. > :49:14.commentators. We speculated earlier about the team and we were not to

:49:15. > :49:18.far off. No surprises at all in either line-up. We will start with

:49:19. > :49:22.St Johnstone. They are listed as the home team, if you like. It is the

:49:23. > :49:28.exact same team that played Aberdeen in the semifinals. It is the back

:49:29. > :49:37.for that is important for me, very competitive stop -- competitive.

:49:38. > :49:45.Players that can go past players and create things as well. Tommy writes

:49:46. > :49:49.was in the papers yesterday and he suggested that Souttar would make a

:49:50. > :49:57.lot of headlines of the season and would not chart today. He does not

:49:58. > :50:05.start today for McNamara today. We know what the four can do. Are you

:50:06. > :50:09.surprised by that? Not really. I'd think Dow has been doing

:50:10. > :50:14.exceptionally well and he deserved his place today. I am sure he will

:50:15. > :50:18.play some part today. Another big decision was the right back. That is

:50:19. > :50:23.the shape and that is the formation. That is the way that

:50:24. > :50:32.Dundee has eased their whole season. Could it come down to who could

:50:33. > :50:35.handle it better? I think it is down to to defend the best.

:50:36. > :50:40.handle it better? I think it is down team defends the best will be the

:50:41. > :50:43.team that wins. We are not even an hour away from kick-off and the fans

:50:44. > :50:49.are beginning to come into Celtic Park. The first Scottish Cup final

:50:50. > :50:59.here since 1998. It is Tommy Wright's first season as

:51:00. > :51:03.manager. The big day is upon us. What are the feelings in the St

:51:04. > :51:06.Johnstone dressing room? There has been a lot of excitement this week

:51:07. > :51:12.but we came away from Perth yesterday with another success. I

:51:13. > :51:18.think the lads have been detached from the real excitement. We are

:51:19. > :51:23.totally focused and we have a job to do and I glad it has come around and

:51:24. > :51:27.it is near to kick off time. There has been a lot of media attention

:51:28. > :51:31.over the last few weeks and now we have to get down to business. What

:51:32. > :51:37.were your final message be to the players? I want them to embrace the

:51:38. > :51:45.occasion but I'd don't want them to be overconfident. Among them to be

:51:46. > :51:52.organised -- I want them to be organised and caused Dundee United

:51:53. > :51:55.problems. What would it mean to you to guide St Johnstone to their first

:51:56. > :51:59.ever Scottish Cup victory? It would be nice but I would get a lot of

:52:00. > :52:07.satisfaction out of seeing the players lift the trophy. Obviously I

:52:08. > :52:14.will be proud, but I'd think there will be a lot of people who would be

:52:15. > :52:21.more proud. We wish you luck. We will hear from Jackie McNamara

:52:22. > :52:27.shortly. He was a former assistant. Steve Lomas was successful in his

:52:28. > :52:33.time at St Johnstone on about the has been galvanised. What an

:52:34. > :52:37.achievement. He is a 50-year-old man but he is like a boy at heart. The

:52:38. > :52:47.players really like him. The attitude is always... He gets the

:52:48. > :52:51.best of it, every single player and his staff. You see players like

:52:52. > :52:55.him, right from the first game of the season, you can just tell that

:52:56. > :53:01.they were buying into what he is trying to do. If Wright had not been

:53:02. > :53:08.the manager, May would not have even been at the club. He would have been

:53:09. > :53:13.away if Steve Lomas was still the manager. He would not be here today.

:53:14. > :53:17.He seems to tell it like it is when he is speaking in front of the

:53:18. > :53:22.camera and in the dressing room and players like that, straightforward.

:53:23. > :53:25.I think he gets a lot of respect and he has a good staff to work with him

:53:26. > :53:31.as well him and that combination definitely works. We were speaking

:53:32. > :53:35.about May, he is the obvious player, but when you see McLean in

:53:36. > :53:40.behind him, they may not play that way for the whole game, that is a

:53:41. > :53:43.great combination, we have seen it already in the way they combine and

:53:44. > :53:53.create goals. McLean has been brilliant. He is the one that takes

:53:54. > :53:57.the bump up the big centre half. St Johnstone have got good players all

:53:58. > :54:06.over. Mackay is ever present. I am just delighted. Two finals, and

:54:07. > :54:13.thankfully today is the start of another one. A couple of months ago,

:54:14. > :54:17.there are some players that fans would not have known. That is the

:54:18. > :54:22.great thing about Kaddish for ball at the moment. There are the --

:54:23. > :54:26.Scottish football at the moment. There are opportunities. They have

:54:27. > :54:37.grabbed the opportunity with both hands, they have had the opportunity

:54:38. > :54:44.and they have taken it. Let's hit rewind again as we reflect

:54:45. > :54:51.on the Scottish Cup story so far. There was a big name to carry out

:54:52. > :54:57.the draw. Sir Alex Ferguson lit the fourth

:54:58. > :55:08.round of and fireworks at night. 32 teams in the draw and some cracking

:55:09. > :55:15.ties. What ever the draw, you have to have

:55:16. > :55:27.passion, determination and drive. The fourth round, it team dared to

:55:28. > :55:33.dream. Dundee United have beaten Rangers. Queen of the South could

:55:34. > :55:38.just not cross the line in 2008. Rangers have won and queen of the

:55:39. > :55:50.south have given up everything. Falkirk fell. A chance for revenge

:55:51. > :55:59.and a chance to knock out Rangers. Living the dream. This is where the

:56:00. > :56:09.line will be drawn into thousand 14. But who will cross that finish line?

:56:10. > :56:19.-- in a 2014. The holders of to Tynecastle and

:56:20. > :56:29.they were rattles the -- rattled. Wonderful goal from Celtic.

:56:30. > :56:52.That's the Fed, and what a fifth it was. And they have it. A hat trick

:56:53. > :57:00.for Collins. Scott Brown leather 's seven into seventh heaven.

:57:01. > :57:10.Sir Alex was not kind to the club when he made his name. An early goal

:57:11. > :57:17.with the Aberdeen through. -- in early goal would see Aberdeen

:57:18. > :57:29.through. Aberdeen have the lead. It is Aberdeen. Sir Alex Ferguson would

:57:30. > :57:35.hand his old club a tie. And May would make his date with destiny

:57:36. > :57:48.with a goal. Typical clinical finishing and then a header saw

:57:49. > :58:03.the... Terry Butcher now at the helm.

:58:04. > :58:26.Danny handling for Hibernian. Paul Tierney. Great run. Down he goes.

:58:27. > :58:31.And it is going to be a yellow card. That is his second and he is off.

:58:32. > :58:40.The full-time whistle has gone and Hibernian have their first ever win

:58:41. > :58:46.against Ross County. Sir Alex Witt -- United would produce the kind of

:58:47. > :59:00.informants that would get a sign from the -- smile from McLean.

:59:01. > :59:15.We are on our way. Three goals. The game is squared. It is a wonderful

:59:16. > :59:24.move from Johnston. He scores again. It is a football fairy tale.

:59:25. > :59:32.Penalty, Dundee United. The goal is in the unguarded net and

:59:33. > :59:44.Dundee United The goal is in the unguarded net and

:59:47. > :59:52.Scottish Cup last 16. In a repeat of would go head to head once again,

:59:53. > :00:03.this time at the Falkirk Stadium. Nikki Gleick. It is a red card for

:00:04. > :00:12.Falkirk. And Rangers ago into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

:00:13. > :00:16.David Templeton in the second-half stoppage time and sure is that

:00:17. > :00:24.Rangers are going into the next stage. Queen of the South would

:00:25. > :00:33.draw. The liked it. What an equaliser from Queen of -- equalised

:00:34. > :00:48.it. What a goal from Queen of the South. For Albion Rovers fans, this

:00:49. > :01:02.fixture was more than worth the wait. Gary Phillips scores. It is a

:01:03. > :01:06.massive cup shock. A sensational victory, and Albion Rovers would

:01:07. > :01:24.soon be back here New Douglas Park to face Rangers.

:01:25. > :01:32.The fourth round of the Scottish Cup was Albion Rovers' round. They

:01:33. > :01:37.knocked out Motherwell. It was a special moment for them. It was.

:01:38. > :01:43.They had an amazing run in the Scottish Cup. It is good for small

:01:44. > :01:49.clumps. It is a great tournament for small clubs. And they gave Rangers

:01:50. > :01:58.afraid, not wanting to spoil the story for you! Yes, they took them

:01:59. > :02:02.to a replay. We have not mentioned the Dundee United left back. He has

:02:03. > :02:10.had a great season. He scored twice against Kilmarnock. Tremendous. He

:02:11. > :02:13.could win the Scottish Cup with Dundee United, and we have spoken

:02:14. > :02:20.about him being selected for Scotland. He plays as full-back, but

:02:21. > :02:27.he scores goals and he is a good defender. We were talking about

:02:28. > :02:38.numbers earlier on. About 28,000 four Dundee United. 15,000 for St

:02:39. > :02:42.Johnstone. That is a massive chunk of the population of Perth. It is a

:02:43. > :02:48.tremendous achievement for St Johnstone. They always said that

:02:49. > :02:56.15,000 would be the target. It is some percentage turnout? Yes. To get

:02:57. > :03:03.one in three of the time to come to the final, it is a great

:03:04. > :03:10.achievement. We are just looking for the team to respond today. Let's

:03:11. > :03:16.have a look at Dundee United out on the pitch. They are limbering up.

:03:17. > :03:21.This is Nadir Ciftci. Craig Brewster, I am managing that you

:03:22. > :03:24.like the look of him. He has gone under the radar for some people. We

:03:25. > :03:32.have been speaking about the Dundee United youngsters. He is very

:03:33. > :03:36.talented. He is pivotal to what Dundee United do in terms of shape.

:03:37. > :03:42.He is strong, aggressive, he scores goals. I imagine that there will be

:03:43. > :03:47.a few English clubs wanting to take him down the road, having started

:03:48. > :03:53.his career at Portsmouth. Are you trying to sell have this Dundee

:03:54. > :04:04.United team? Jackie McNamara will not like you! Let's hear from him.

:04:05. > :04:08.You have an experienced paling at centre back. Was that influenced by

:04:09. > :04:14.the effect that Stevie May has had on you in previous matches? Not at

:04:15. > :04:22.all. It is the same starting line-up that one at Inverness. It has been

:04:23. > :04:26.successful in the last few weeks for us. Give us an insight into what

:04:27. > :04:30.you're saying to the players? The biggest thing is to enjoy the

:04:31. > :04:35.occasion. They have got to make sure it does not get the better of them.

:04:36. > :04:39.They have got to put in a performance and take the cup back

:04:40. > :04:44.with us. You have had Scottish Cup success as a player. What we did

:04:45. > :04:53.mean as a manager? It would be fantastic. My thoughts are for the

:04:54. > :04:57.players. I wanted more -- I want it more for them, than anything. All

:04:58. > :05:02.the best. You can see how it is shaping up.

:05:03. > :05:07.The stadium is gradually filling up. Let's head back outside. It

:05:08. > :05:12.looks like Jim Spence has got himself on the wrong side of the

:05:13. > :05:16.law? I am outside Celtic Park with a

:05:17. > :05:27.couple of well-known Scottish detectives. Are you going to do this

:05:28. > :05:30.today? Who knows? It will be another hundred years if we do not. I think

:05:31. > :05:37.it is the best chance that we will have. It is getting tougher by the

:05:38. > :05:51.minute. It is getting wetter and wetter. It is going to be marred! --

:05:52. > :05:59.it is going to be murder! Stevie May is the danger man. Yes, destiny is

:06:00. > :06:05.on his back. He is the danger man. We were just in the pub. It was full

:06:06. > :06:16.of Dundee United fans and Saints fans. It was a great atmosphere. Can

:06:17. > :06:22.United handcuff Stevie May. I do not know. Very good. We have seen him

:06:23. > :06:28.dance around Dundee United before. If we can keep it tight, we have

:06:29. > :06:36.every chance. That sounds very technical. Give me a protect -- give

:06:37. > :06:42.me a protection. -- prediction. 3-2, United. Thank you very much.

:06:43. > :06:47.me a protection. -- prediction. 3-2, police plans you could possibly want

:06:48. > :06:51.in a short space of time. By the time we had reached the fifth round

:06:52. > :06:56.of the Scottish Cup, we were down to the last 16 teams.

:06:57. > :07:03.When it comes to this stage of the Scottish Cup, it is a hard task to

:07:04. > :07:12.get squat the outcome will be. -- to guess what the outcome will be.

:07:13. > :07:16.Aberdeen were an impressive form. After being runners-up in the last

:07:17. > :07:21.two cup finals, Hibernian were looking for that extra trick up

:07:22. > :07:28.their sleeves. They played host to Raith Rovers. This certainly would

:07:29. > :07:41.not be any pushover. For further athletic played St Johnstone. --

:07:42. > :07:49.Forfar Athletic. Dundee United last tasted Scottish Cup success in 2010.

:07:50. > :07:52.They played St Mirren. At this stage, anything was possible when it

:07:53. > :08:07.came to the magic of the Scottish Cup. Rangers were dealt the opening

:08:08. > :08:18.match. They beat Dunfermline. Rangers have the early initiative.

:08:19. > :08:30.Jon Daly, a brilliant save. It is two for Rangers. David Templeton

:08:31. > :08:32.adds some gloss to the scoreline. Rangers add to their already massive

:08:33. > :08:36.lead. Celtic were the kings Rangers add to their already massive

:08:37. > :08:49.cup, but they would be decked by Aberdeen. Brilliant. He batters the

:08:50. > :08:55.ball past Langfield. Anderson, it is parity at Parkhead. 2-1, Aberdeen.

:08:56. > :09:01.Aberdeen had knocked the holders out. The Scottish Cup was up for

:09:02. > :09:05.grabs. Hibernian did not expect to fall flat against Raith Rovers.

:09:06. > :09:13.Raith Rovers take the lead at Easter Road. Albion Rovers continued to

:09:14. > :09:19.defy expectations. Albion Rovers score a second. Dundee United had a

:09:20. > :09:30.tricky tie against St Mirren. Marian Kello was in sparkling form. This is

:09:31. > :09:37.a chance for Dundee United. That is a great save. It is steered them by

:09:38. > :09:44.Ryan Gauld. Dundee United take the lead. A penalty has been given. As

:09:45. > :09:57.cool as you like. St Mirren or level. -- are level. That is a

:09:58. > :10:05.wonderful save. Nadir Ciftci. Dundee United take their place in the

:10:06. > :10:16.quarterfinal. St Johnstone shuffled through to the last eight against

:10:17. > :10:29.four for athletic. -- against Forfar Athletic. Stevie May gets the vital

:10:30. > :10:38.touch. Frazer Wright knocks it in. It will break came true for

:10:39. > :10:50.O'Halloran. -- it will break kindly for. That was another terrific

:10:51. > :11:02.introduction. Elsewhere, Dumbarton soph Alloa Athletic. -- saw off. 82

:11:03. > :11:08.teams started the competition. Now only eight teams remain. The

:11:09. > :11:14.complexion of the competition changed in that round, with Celtic

:11:15. > :11:18.being out. Yes, when the big teams are knocked out of the competition,

:11:19. > :11:24.it gives the other teams believe. They hope they can do well. Over the

:11:25. > :11:30.last few years, Hearts, St Mirren, a number of teams, St Johnstone,

:11:31. > :11:37.Dundee United, have one major trophies. That can only be good for

:11:38. > :11:45.Scottish food bowl, -- Scottish football, to allow the fans to taste

:11:46. > :11:50.success. Everyone is looking forward to this. Let's look at a couple of

:11:51. > :11:55.players who are maybe not the obvious ones that you would think

:11:56. > :11:59.would be significant to the final. Alan Mannus is one that always does

:12:00. > :12:05.not get the praise that he deserves. What do you think? He has been a

:12:06. > :12:11.great signing. Tommy Wright has known him for a number of yours. His

:12:12. > :12:16.season will not be over. Add leave he will be grim to South America

:12:17. > :12:21.with the national squad. He is a great shot stopper. If he has a

:12:22. > :12:28.slight weakness, it is with the ball at his feet, but for me, he is a top

:12:29. > :12:34.goalkeeper. On the opposition side, let's look at Sean Dillon. He has

:12:35. > :12:39.not played lots this season. He has spent lots of time on the bench.

:12:40. > :12:43.What does he offer alongside Gavin Gunning in central defence? He has

:12:44. > :12:47.the experience of Gunning in central defence? He has

:12:48. > :12:58.Scottish Cup. He will come some of these younger players down. Their

:12:59. > :13:08.Hearts will be pounding. -- Hearts. Dundee United will be looking for a

:13:09. > :13:15.big performance from them. Sometimes Dundee United try to play too much

:13:16. > :13:22.football from the back. Yes. But with Gavin Gunning at centre back

:13:23. > :13:27.and Sean Dillon, it will be a difficult defence to break down. If

:13:28. > :13:32.you are good enough, you're old enough, and that has been Jackie

:13:33. > :13:44.McNamara's mantra since taking over at Dundee United. Let's hear from

:13:45. > :13:53.three of those younger players. Dundee United are on the break.

:13:54. > :14:14.Robertson, Armstrong, Ryan Gauld. Jings, crivens! Those pesky Bash

:14:15. > :14:22.Street Kids have invaded the pitch. He is stealing the half-time pies! I

:14:23. > :14:30.think that's perfect. He has got the muscle definition. Where are you? I

:14:31. > :14:42.am that one. The body tone is nice. What about you? I look like I am

:14:43. > :14:51.mourning for not coming back. -- moaning. What do you recall from the

:14:52. > :15:03.Scottish Cup competition? The first one was Kilmarnock. I got a goal. I

:15:04. > :15:09.got a goal against St Mirren. Nadir Ciftci. It is steered and by Ryan

:15:10. > :15:13.Gauld. We did well to get that result. St Mirren have made it

:15:14. > :15:20.tricky for us a couple of times this season. Nadir Ciftci, he is a

:15:21. > :15:23.character. Tell us about him. He has that expression of someone has not

:15:24. > :15:32.passed to him. He has done well for as this season. People talk about

:15:33. > :15:37.you being baby Messi. Does that get on your nerves? It is a nice

:15:38. > :15:44.complement to hear. Calling me the best player in the world. Is he the

:15:45. > :15:53.best player at Tannadice Park? Yes, after me.

:15:54. > :16:09.That was a thrashing on the worst pitch possible. Armstrong, and it is

:16:10. > :16:22.five. I1 against Inverness, it was a nice one. Stuart Armstrong. I'd do

:16:23. > :16:31.not think we paid too much attention in the build-up. We had a great turn

:16:32. > :16:36.out on the day. We knew ourselves that we did not play our best. We

:16:37. > :16:42.knew the main objective was to get through. We are looking for a better

:16:43. > :16:56.performance in the final. There is a very handsome man here. That is

:16:57. > :17:16.Spencer! I think he plays with a philosophy.

:17:17. > :17:17.Spencer! I think he plays with a ones. That is GMS. I think he will

:17:18. > :17:31.be happy with that. ones. That is GMS. I think he will

:17:32. > :17:34.ranking. He looks very tan. What do you make of St Johnstone? There have

:17:35. > :17:34.been some puzzles you make of St Johnstone? There have

:17:35. > :17:42.sides this season. -- titles. They have got the better of us so far

:17:43. > :17:55.this season. The 1-0 win, that have got the better of us so far

:17:56. > :18:01.be playing on the minds of our fans. It will be down to the day. Whenever

:18:02. > :18:05.be playing on the minds of our fans. we have played them they have done

:18:06. > :18:10.very well and have made it hard for us and so far that has worked for

:18:11. > :18:14.them. We hope that we can create a few chances and take them on the

:18:15. > :18:20.day. If you do that you will be legends in the city of Dundee. What

:18:21. > :18:25.would it mean to you personally? For the club, it is a massive

:18:26. > :18:32.achievement, and for the fans and the players, and that is why we

:18:33. > :18:36.train and strive to get a result. This could be the only Cup Final of

:18:37. > :18:41.our career so we have to try and take it while it is there. That is

:18:42. > :18:49.what you dream of as a kid, being the hero in a Cup Final. If we can

:18:50. > :18:59.win the Cup we will be seen as a hero.

:19:00. > :19:05.Ryan Gauld will start this game on the bench. The Dundee United lads

:19:06. > :19:11.all grew up together. I am sure it will be fun and games in the

:19:12. > :19:17.dressing room. Jackie has given them a place. Go out and play and enjoy

:19:18. > :19:25.them. How good a player has Stuart Armstrong become? He is a top

:19:26. > :19:28.player. You heard him talking, he has got confidence. Good players

:19:29. > :19:33.know they are good players will stop he has brought goals this season.

:19:34. > :19:40.This one here -- players. He has broad goals this year. He gets a hat

:19:41. > :19:51.on it. This one is very good to keep an eye on. Always moving, the ball

:19:52. > :19:59.is getting headed back in. He is showing his composure. He just

:20:00. > :20:06.passes it into the corner. It bounces high up. He does not panic.

:20:07. > :20:12.Great composer. This one here, we just highlighted, a great

:20:13. > :20:17.combination play. So symbolic of Dundee United's play. Tight areas,

:20:18. > :20:23.good control. This is something that does not happen often enough in

:20:24. > :20:28.modern football. Football -- players in his position want to run in, and

:20:29. > :20:32.too many players want the ball to their feet. He is direct getting in

:20:33. > :20:36.behind and he is a top player and has a big future ahead of him. He is

:20:37. > :20:43.the best of the young kids in my opinion. He is the modern midfield

:20:44. > :20:50.player. He is outscoring goals and goes beyond the strikers. There are

:20:51. > :20:58.not many that want to do that now. Billions contribution from him. You

:20:59. > :21:04.see his intelligence. Different class. Whether he plays a wide,

:21:05. > :21:10.through the middle, and I think that is how he will play today, through

:21:11. > :21:14.the middle. The final flashback is the round known as the

:21:15. > :21:21.quarterfinals. Celtic were last year's Cup winners

:21:22. > :21:30.and favourites, but they would succumb to the red revival in around

:21:31. > :21:35.five. -- in round five. This game has been turned on its head.

:21:36. > :21:43.Aberdeen needed to eat the defiant decide to have the Scottish comp --

:21:44. > :21:52.Aberdeen needed to beat the defiant decide. They faced a tough challenge

:21:53. > :22:00.against another membership side. A dominant display. Rangers, the most

:22:01. > :22:09.successful side left in the competition. They were firm

:22:10. > :22:21.favourites in the final four. Standing in the way, a lead to

:22:22. > :22:30.team. It was an old partnership affair.

:22:31. > :22:40.Both sides fought hard. Cierzniak -- Ciftci! Rovers rolled out the carpet

:22:41. > :22:46.as they hosted St Johnstone. The visitors helped themselves to a

:22:47. > :23:02.place in the semifinal. Nicely. What a start for Saints. What a goal!

:23:03. > :23:08.That is special stuff. What a goal. It crept in on the near post. St

:23:09. > :23:14.Johnstone have their place in the Scottish Cup semifinal. Three hours

:23:15. > :23:22.and 150 miles to Aberdeen, and it was clear that they were not just

:23:23. > :23:26.there for a joy ride. The dons for the new Scottish Cup favourites and

:23:27. > :23:39.would eventually ever, Iain Murray's side, but only just.

:23:40. > :24:07.Headed down into the ground. Aberdeen are into their second

:24:08. > :24:14.semifinal this season. Adam Rooney. The match winner. United fans turned

:24:15. > :24:22.up in their numbers to watch a performance from their team. A

:24:23. > :24:24.Highland welcome from a very generous home defence. What a

:24:25. > :24:34.chance. It is talked away beautifully. Have to be careful. It

:24:35. > :24:43.comes back towards the goal. A penalty. Dundee United are into the

:24:44. > :25:03.It is Armstrong and it is five. last four.

:25:04. > :25:07.It is Armstrong and it is five. cruising through with ease. Rangers

:25:08. > :25:17.welcomed Rovers. Would they pull off another minute mental shock? Rovers

:25:18. > :25:27.have scored. S Rocco -- the ball ends up in the act of the net. What

:25:28. > :25:41.a display from the man in red this afternoon. The Rovers rebellion

:25:42. > :25:53.would be quelled. Rangers are in front in the 18th minute. A good

:25:54. > :26:03.one. A fine header. A brave effort by Rovers. It is Rangers to come out

:26:04. > :26:06.victorious -- who come out the Tories. Things were just getting

:26:07. > :26:20.interesting. Those five goals created for Dundee

:26:21. > :26:25.United in the quarterfinals could have been a timely warning for St

:26:26. > :26:31.Johnstone about what could happen if this United team really start to

:26:32. > :26:37.play. There is the captain. I guess no-one is going to be relishing this

:26:38. > :26:41.occasion more than hen. He has been a semifinal loser so often. --

:26:42. > :26:42.occasion more than hen. He has been than hen. Everyone looks up to him

:26:43. > :26:50.and he than hen. Everyone looks up to him

:26:51. > :26:58.terrific player. He than hen. Everyone looks up to him

:26:59. > :27:09.the year. A terrific player. The battle between him

:27:10. > :27:16.If he can force them back and will be a major plus for St Johnstone. It

:27:17. > :27:22.is about to the forces the issue or who can issue -- forced the issue.

:27:23. > :27:30.It is certainly anti-Robertson's game. Decent position. The opposite

:27:31. > :27:38.fullback has to drop off and defend. That's could be the crucial aspect.

:27:39. > :27:43.If Dundee United can dictate the play here, it will definitely suit

:27:44. > :27:49.them, because this is a fantastic pitch to play football. I am looking

:27:50. > :28:00.forward to seeing how Dundee United used their attacking and defensive.

:28:01. > :28:11.Mackay couldn't see the threat from United down the left-hand side. He

:28:12. > :28:16.is the young player of this season in the top flight and he is in the

:28:17. > :28:20.Scotland squad as well. He is a modern-day fullback. They get

:28:21. > :28:24.forward and create chances and he does all of that. A lot of the guys

:28:25. > :28:28.who are out there today, we have spoken about the Wotherspoon, these

:28:29. > :28:31.guys started the season just dreaming that they would take part

:28:32. > :28:39.in the Cup Final today, so they are going to have a huge part to play on

:28:40. > :28:45.all of these guys we have mentioned. He has watched a few finals. He is a

:28:46. > :28:48.Perth lad and he deserves this. There has been heartbreak for the

:28:49. > :28:53.last two years for him. He was really heartbroken. He has got a

:28:54. > :28:58.chance today to go out there and maybe just scored the winner. At the

:28:59. > :29:14.semifinal stage of the Scottish Cup final, let's get back.

:29:15. > :29:19.St Johnstone. Aberdeen. Reaching the final, making that journey, it takes

:29:20. > :29:26.a lot more than just luck. It is about crossing the finishing line.

:29:27. > :29:31.The United can were unhappy -- camp were unhappy. A massive advantage. A

:29:32. > :29:37.semifinal is a semifinal wherever you play. The football match got

:29:38. > :29:44.played and what a football match it was. It is a home advantage with a

:29:45. > :29:54.difference for the Rangers team. This could be dangerous. Dundee

:29:55. > :30:12.United have a lead in the Scottish Cup semifinals. A free kick. It has

:30:13. > :30:16.gone in. Around the goalkeeper. Dundee United are taking it to the

:30:17. > :30:32.Scottish Cup final. The second semifinal with a hard act to follow.

:30:33. > :30:47.For expecting an Aberdeen victory. Stevie May slams St Johnstone back

:30:48. > :30:51.into the Scottish cup. Stevie May fires St Johnstone into their

:30:52. > :30:58.first-ever Scottish Cup final. 130 years of waiting. The last step on

:30:59. > :31:02.the road to Celtic Park is almost here. Only one name will be etched

:31:03. > :31:06.on the trophy. Tonight, wherever you are, sit back and enjoy what remains

:31:07. > :31:15.of the right. It's been a rather epic journey.

:31:16. > :31:23.We are here at the final stage of this season's Scottish Cup

:31:24. > :31:27.competition. Aberdeen probably had big expectations of being here,

:31:28. > :31:30.maybe getting a cup double for the season. St Johnstone had other

:31:31. > :31:34.ideas. And that will give them massive belief today. Aberdeen

:31:35. > :31:39.dominated the first half then Tommy made tactical changes and moved

:31:40. > :31:45.Stevie May close to Stephen McClane. They squeezed the midfield and two

:31:46. > :31:48.terrific goals. That has to give them confidence. Aberdeen were the

:31:49. > :31:51.favourites, and have knocked out the favourites. Who becomes the

:31:52. > :31:56.favourite? I think it is a 50/50 game. I wouldn't know how to price

:31:57. > :32:00.this one up as a bookmaker. It's an even money match. The other

:32:01. > :32:03.semifinal was interesting. Dundee United felt they might have won with

:32:04. > :32:06.some comfort, Rangers had chances early on, which might have been

:32:07. > :32:12.taken and then it would have been totally different. Quite a strange

:32:13. > :32:15.one. Dundee United going to Ibrox as the favourites. Quite rightly, they

:32:16. > :32:22.are the better team. But in the second half they did start to get

:32:23. > :32:27.nervous when they realised that they needed a little slip from Simmons.

:32:28. > :32:32.Dundee United were the better team, no doubt about it. Dundee United you

:32:33. > :32:36.get slightly nervous which might be a slight concern for Jackie McNamara

:32:37. > :32:44.in terms of how they might handle the occasion. There is a

:32:45. > :32:47.ruthlessness about Dundee United. We touched on it with a 5-0 game

:32:48. > :32:54.against Inverness. They have that about them. They will have to come

:32:55. > :32:57.out and win the battle. Hoping to play the open and expansive football

:32:58. > :33:01.they play. That will be crucial in the early part of the game. It will

:33:02. > :33:10.be interesting to see how the players handle the occasion. Could

:33:11. > :33:15.set pieces play a big part? I think it could. A tight game set pieces

:33:16. > :33:18.can be big. St Johnstone have been potent from set pieces this season.

:33:19. > :33:22.They have guys who want to win the ball. There is Anderson getting the

:33:23. > :33:26.knock-down, and Stevie May is always in around the six yard box. This one

:33:27. > :33:31.again, Anderson getting on the ball at the front post. You need guys

:33:32. > :33:38.that want to attack the ball with real purpose. St Johnstone have got

:33:39. > :33:42.that. Frazer Wright gets on it again. A commanding centre half who

:33:43. > :33:47.wants to win it. When you look at Sean Dillon playing, that is saying

:33:48. > :33:51.something, Jackie McNamara realises he wants proper defenders in there.

:33:52. > :33:55.Dundee United lack of them, and you need guys who will win the ball. St

:33:56. > :33:59.Johnstone do that. They have guys that want to win the ball and attack

:34:00. > :34:03.it. They have the delivery as well. I have good delivery, because if you

:34:04. > :34:06.only have one side of it, guys who want to attack the ball, if you

:34:07. > :34:12.don't get a good ball into them, nothing comes. This just shows you,

:34:13. > :34:16.the delivery they have, through Wotherspoon, the quality he has from

:34:17. > :34:22.set pieces, bang, into the top corner. So the quality they have got

:34:23. > :34:25.from set pieces, Dundee United out to be careful. I don't think the

:34:26. > :34:29.goalkeeper is that strong all commanding with the high balls. The

:34:30. > :34:34.two centre halves have doubled a performance if they're going to stop

:34:35. > :34:39.St Johnstone scoring. You've got three quarters of the back four who

:34:40. > :34:43.are a threat at the set pieces. So you have plenty happening at set

:34:44. > :34:49.pieces. Plenty the Dundee United to think about. They have got

:34:50. > :34:55.goal-scorers all over the place. He scored a few free kicks in his time,

:34:56. > :34:59.McKay. He is the one who does not really contribute at left back, but

:35:00. > :35:04.from the defence, to the middle, to the attack, they will score today, I

:35:05. > :35:07.think. Will that be a big concern of the Dundee United? Will that play a

:35:08. > :35:13.big part in their preparations getting ready for set pieces and

:35:14. > :35:16.tackling them? Without a doubt. That is why he has Sean Dillon partnering

:35:17. > :35:24.Dunning in the centre defence. From open play, St Johnstone will swing a

:35:25. > :35:33.lot of balls -- gunning. Coming. From open play. We talked about the

:35:34. > :35:37.flair players were Dundee United, , but they hinge so much on the base

:35:38. > :35:40.that Paul but they hinge so much on the base

:35:41. > :35:43.them. The but they hinge so much on the base

:35:44. > :35:55.off-the-cuff. It is natural ability. What we are highlighting, Payton and

:35:56. > :35:58.ranking -- Rankin, they have to work on that and

:35:59. > :35:59.ranking -- Rankin, they have to work foot to go and express themselves

:36:00. > :36:07.and really hurt teams. Without that, they can't do their business.

:36:08. > :36:14.You see John Rankin, good composure and every one of these clubs, less

:36:15. > :36:17.than ten yards. That is vital to give them the platform. We are

:36:18. > :36:23.talking about the back four, the centre halves who might be a bit

:36:24. > :36:27.suspect. If you have that in front, there's all sorts of benefits. With

:36:28. > :36:31.the fullbacks charging forward, you have to have somebody who will come

:36:32. > :36:38.in and cover. And winning balls high up the park. If you want to nullify

:36:39. > :36:46.Stevie May and McLean, you have to push up high, and that is what

:36:47. > :36:49.Rankin has done. I was watching Dundee United and it was Paul Payton

:36:50. > :36:54.in the first game of the season who was playing as a loan holding

:36:55. > :36:58.midfielder Andy was rebuked -- and he was for a few games. Maybe Jacqui

:36:59. > :37:05.has learned what is best system is Azeez, long. -- Jackie McNamara. If

:37:06. > :37:11.wonderful what -- fullback weatherboard, the other one toxin

:37:12. > :37:17.I've seen -- if one fullback goes forward the other one toxin. Having

:37:18. > :37:21.the license to do that, and protect, if they go forward they

:37:22. > :37:24.know that they are secure the back and Paul Payton will drop into an

:37:25. > :37:27.area where the Right back and Paul Payton will drop into an area where

:37:28. > :37:31.the writeback will be an John Rankin can drop whether left back will be.

:37:32. > :37:36.-- Paul Paton. The players don't play them to win awards, but they

:37:37. > :37:39.are valuable in the setup. There is discipline in that formation, the

:37:40. > :37:43.fullbacks bombing on. I had John Rankin at Inverness and I would love

:37:44. > :37:48.to see him pick up a winner 's medal because he's a fantastic role model

:37:49. > :37:56.for everybody, fantastic attitude and I'd love to see him get the

:37:57. > :38:00.credit he deserves. We were talking about Paul Paton starting on his

:38:01. > :38:04.own, and sometimes the best formation comes about organically.

:38:05. > :38:10.The manager recognises it. They have found the system and it suits the

:38:11. > :38:13.players the best. You've probably seen enough of us. Let's have a look

:38:14. > :38:17.at what is happening outside. Because it is building up very

:38:18. > :38:27.nicely indeed. There is that wall of tangerine around Celtic Park, and

:38:28. > :38:32.15,000 in blue and white as well. Let's continue the thread of the

:38:33. > :38:38.discussion, because we have spoken about developing talent from both

:38:39. > :38:40.teams, and Stevie May at St Johnstone. Jackie McNamara falls

:38:41. > :38:45.into the category as well, doesn't he, as a developing talent as a

:38:46. > :38:50.manager? He is a refreshing young manager. Very attacking minded.

:38:51. > :38:57.Lights to get bodies in the box and score goals. He has taken that

:38:58. > :39:00.velocity on from Partick Thistle. If you go much Dundee United, you are

:39:01. > :39:07.guaranteed chances at both ends, because he can throw caution to the

:39:08. > :39:10.wind -- he has taken that on, that philosophy. But his position is that

:39:11. > :39:15.if you score four goals, I will try and score five. Don't be so cool --

:39:16. > :39:21.formed by the schoolboy looks of Jackie McNamara, there is a steely

:39:22. > :39:25.determination. I was with him at Aberdeen, a well-respected bloke by

:39:26. > :39:29.everyone. He is a winner. He proved it with Celtic over the years and I

:39:30. > :39:33.hope he proves it today for Dundee United. Is there a bit of needle

:39:34. > :39:42.between the two managers? They have had the odd spat. I think this

:39:43. > :39:46.needle in here between those two. But rivalry is good in football, you

:39:47. > :39:51.want some needle between people. As long as it doesn't go over the top.

:39:52. > :39:55.I hope it might carry onto the pitch and we end up with a result like

:39:56. > :39:58.Alan is talking about, 5-4, because that could be enjoyable for

:39:59. > :40:03.everybody. There is Jackie McNamara in the tunnel. He has experienced so

:40:04. > :40:09.many big matches as a player, maybe that he can transfer that to the

:40:10. > :40:13.players. This will not faze Jackie McNamara at all. You can see him,

:40:14. > :40:18.still looks as though he could play. He will be going and giving the

:40:19. > :40:22.young boys behind him all the experience, opening ten minutes,

:40:23. > :40:26.don't take chances as a defender. Nice easy passes, don't hit World

:40:27. > :40:30.Cup balls, and if you're a striker get a touching early. The problem

:40:31. > :40:33.you have, you have to be careful. Yes, have fire in your belly, but

:40:34. > :40:39.you have to be calming your head. You could use -- lose your rag after

:40:40. > :40:42.five or six minutes and you could be red carded and the team is under

:40:43. > :40:48.pressure. Craig, you know about playing and scoring in a cup final.

:40:49. > :40:54.Some players handle it, some don't. What an amazing day it is, and he

:40:55. > :41:00.will say to his players, be calm, because they will be so excited and

:41:01. > :41:05.his experience is vital in the first five minutes of the game. We will

:41:06. > :41:09.see who comes out victorious. Setting the tone is important, isn't

:41:10. > :41:13.it, Michael? Of course it is. All big games you have to put down a

:41:14. > :41:19.marker and earn the right to go and play. It is a mouthwatering game

:41:20. > :41:23.coming up, and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will be a

:41:24. > :41:29.tight one, but if I went one way I think Dundee United will make this

:41:30. > :41:35.one. We were looking at the people with a St Johnstone ties up -- on in

:41:36. > :41:42.the directors box, and they deserve this day. 25 years as chairman, he

:41:43. > :41:45.moved them up here. A great club, never in debt, and they would go

:41:46. > :41:50.down a lot, but they would bounce back up. He was very loyal to the

:41:51. > :41:54.managers over those periods and he has handed the club onto his son.

:41:55. > :42:00.He's the man rubbing his hands at the row. He will be nervous, they

:42:01. > :42:04.can say to his dad, you didn't do it, but I have the chance of being

:42:05. > :42:07.the chairman of a Scottish Cup side. Maybe he has had on offer the Stevie

:42:08. > :42:13.May and that's why he's rubbing his hands. This is not about emotion,

:42:14. > :42:16.that will not decide this today. The players up a focus on the jobs they

:42:17. > :42:21.have to do. They can get carried away with the atmosphere but they

:42:22. > :42:29.have a job to do and they have to do it to the best of their ability. We

:42:30. > :42:32.are all set, and it is Tommy Wright's St Johnstone against Jackie

:42:33. > :42:38.McNamara's Dundee United. Talking us through it, Steven

:42:39. > :42:44.The waiting is just about over four St Johnstone and Dundee United.

:42:45. > :42:48.Uncharted territory for the Perthshire side who have floated

:42:49. > :42:53.with this scenario many a time but have always come up short in the

:42:54. > :42:58.last four, until now. Tommy Wright, with more than a little help from

:42:59. > :43:01.Stevie May, helped crack the semifinal who do. They now find

:43:02. > :43:06.themselves plotting their way towards a first piece of major

:43:07. > :43:11.Silver Roque -- silverware. The club is celebrating its 130th birthday

:43:12. > :43:15.this year. The Scottish Cup sitting proudly in the trophy cabinet would

:43:16. > :43:19.be a perfect present. But it is a World Cup year, and that means the

:43:20. > :43:23.omen is good for Dundee United. Both times they have won this

:43:24. > :43:31.competition, it has come just before a World Cup finals, in 1994 and then

:43:32. > :43:35.in 2010. The names of Brewster, Conway and goodwill ER written in

:43:36. > :43:39.the folklore. The pictures on the walls at Tannadice. The 2014 will

:43:40. > :43:45.have gazed at those in the last few weeks -- the 2014 team. They know

:43:46. > :43:48.that it could be them. Jackie McNamara won this piece of

:43:49. > :43:54.silverware three times as a player and scored in one of the finals

:43:55. > :43:59.himself. He knows what it takes. Tayside tussle in Glasgow for the

:44:00. > :44:08.final honour of the Scottish football season. Is it going to the

:44:09. > :44:09.fair city, or the city of discovery? History beckons for one of these

:44:10. > :44:23.teams. That is the St Johnstone team that

:44:24. > :44:30.beat Aberdeen in the semifinals. Done and Millar were brilliant in

:44:31. > :44:33.the midfield. So were McLean and Stevie May. The latter is 27 goals

:44:34. > :44:37.have been more than pivotal throughout the campaign for them

:44:38. > :44:42.this season. Sean Dillon and Watson along with Morgaro Gomis are the

:44:43. > :44:49.only survivors from the side that won the competition four years ago.

:44:50. > :44:55.Ryan Dow is preferred to Ryan Gauld. Shifty -- Ciftci is through

:44:56. > :44:58.Ryan Dow is preferred to Ryan Gauld. middle. Hasselbaink and Lee Croft

:44:59. > :45:02.have to do with missing out on the starting spot, as do the much

:45:03. > :45:07.heralded youngsters, Ryan Gauld and John Souttar for Dundee United. The

:45:08. > :45:14.referee is 41-year-old Craig Thomson, his third Scottish Cup

:45:15. > :45:19.final having presided over the versions in 2009 and 2012. Steven

:45:20. > :45:24.Thompson with me, former Dundee versions in 2009 and 2012. Steven

:45:25. > :45:27.competition with Rangers in versions in 2009 and 2012. Steven

:45:28. > :45:30.and Dave Mackay, he was in the beta and side that day, playing for

:45:31. > :45:34.Dundee, what is going through their minds -- the beaten side? They

:45:35. > :45:39.cannot wait for the whistle. They've been waiting for weeks and weeks.

:45:40. > :45:43.The build-up to the game is huge. You go around, seeing people in the

:45:44. > :45:48.communities, the town is buzzing and you get your clothes fitted. Various

:45:49. > :45:52.things that keep your mind off the game, but ever since these guys woke

:45:53. > :45:55.up, they want to hear the whistle. As soon as you hear the whistle, the

:45:56. > :46:20.nerves disappear and you are playing. The skippers go through

:46:21. > :46:32.Tommy Wright is just about set. A big David Lynn, less than a year

:46:33. > :46:38.after replacing Steve Lomas, his compatriot -- a big day for him.

:46:39. > :46:47.all that is left now is the game of football itself. Seconds away from

:46:48. > :46:58.the start of the 129th Scottish Cup Final. A wonderful atmosphere inside

:46:59. > :47:06.Celtic Park. 255 years of combined history, for just the Tours fourth

:47:07. > :47:07.time since they have met in the Scottish Cup. The Tangerines in

:47:08. > :47:21.their new kit today. 2-1 up on that Scottish Cup. The Tangerines in

:47:22. > :47:27.particular day. Celtic Park, tang row and black to the right and blue

:47:28. > :47:33.and white to the left. United get an early feel of the ball. Looking for

:47:34. > :47:39.the run of Armstrong. Dugout by Dunne. Wot wot, finally getting a

:47:40. > :47:47.chance to play in this final. He missed out on the last two. With

:47:48. > :47:57.Hibs. May, first touch of the ball for him. You always know he is

:47:58. > :48:05.trying to get a shot away. Trying to play a pass inside. Overcooked. It

:48:06. > :48:11.they have to be aware of Stevie May. Tries to get shots off. First time

:48:12. > :48:17.the Scottish Cup Final has been away from Hampden Park since 1998.

:48:18. > :48:22.Pre-match nerves. The wonder of what might happen. Waking up for some of

:48:23. > :48:29.the players in the middle of the night think you have won it or lost

:48:30. > :48:32.it. The passing of the last few weeks has taken a little bit longer

:48:33. > :48:51.for supporters of both. This is Ryan Dow. He couldn't hold

:48:52. > :48:57.onto it. Fabulous play from Dow. Sprinting down the wing. A fabulous

:48:58. > :49:03.ball. Mannus comes out. Shakily gets a hold of it. The danger is cleared.

:49:04. > :49:11.A great start from United though. They won't need too much

:49:12. > :49:16.encouragement, will the Tangerines. Ciftci fouled by Anderson. Ciftci,

:49:17. > :49:20.such a strong boy. He holds the ball up so well for Dundee United. He

:49:21. > :49:26.will be a handful for the St Johnstone players today. What is

:49:27. > :49:29.Alan Mannus thinking now Not the start he is being looking for. He

:49:30. > :49:34.will want another cross so that he can put it right. Dillon deals with

:49:35. > :49:40.it. Brian Easton. A couple He went for the team that

:49:41. > :49:56.won the semi-final. That is the right call. He wondered

:49:57. > :50:01.offside. Good play from May. Working in to out. Looking for a killer

:50:02. > :50:06.pass. Plays it in. He's offside. A yard offside.

:50:07. > :50:10.Some of the St Johnstone didn't see the flag, they are appealing for a

:50:11. > :50:42.penalty there. Watson for Armstrong. Paton, ,

:50:43. > :50:48.Ciftci, Armstrong. He won the free-kick. He is a strong boy,

:50:49. > :50:59.Stevie May. Unfortunate there, showing his strength against Dillon.

:51:00. > :51:05.He had a couple of loan spells at Hammill tonne. It will stand him a

:51:06. > :51:09.world of good. This year he filled out and matured. He

:51:10. > :51:12.world of good. This year he filled attribute you could want as a

:51:13. > :51:16.professional footballer. He has a level head as well. I'm sure his

:51:17. > :51:21.future will be big. He might well be staying. He wants contract clubs

:51:22. > :51:23.with the talk. They want to keep him. A local lad. This will mean a

:51:24. > :51:45.lot to him. Very different surroundings for him

:51:46. > :52:01.today. Taking it all in. Anderson beats Ciftci.

:52:02. > :52:10.Rankine. Mannus. Took a Anderson beats Ciftci.

:52:11. > :52:15.bobble away from Alan Mannus. He should have been expecting that

:52:16. > :52:21.conjectory of the ball. He wanted a touch of the ball again after his

:52:22. > :52:27.mistake at the front. I'm not sure that is the touch he was wanting. He

:52:28. > :52:32.has had a shakey start so United will want to keep test him.

:52:33. > :52:42.St Johnstone on the counter. Too Dow, over it.

:52:43. > :52:47.St Johnstone on the counter. Too much on it for May. Over hit the

:52:48. > :52:52.pass. Not a bad ball in. One thing that St Johnstone do very well is

:52:53. > :52:56.defend set-pieces. They have a lot of tall, strong players. Generally,

:52:57. > :53:01.if the ball is not excellent and the movement is not excellent. They will

:53:02. > :53:06.clear the ball. When the ball is played in the defence

:53:07. > :53:28.clear the ball. When the ball is usually food and drink for them.

:53:29. > :53:36.He is limping a bit. He will be winded. A big strong boy. Shout for

:53:37. > :53:47.a handball. It wasn't forthcoming. United have seen more of the ball in

:53:48. > :54:12.the early stages. Frazer Wright making his 100th

:54:13. > :54:16.appearance for St Johnstone this afternoon. He tries to nudge Frazer

:54:17. > :54:21.Wright out of the way here. It's harder to do than it looks. United

:54:22. > :54:26.have started OK. St Johnstone are really pressing them. In their faces

:54:27. > :54:31.every two second. As we expected. The players are talented. Any player

:54:32. > :54:33.getting pressed does not like it. St Johnstone have started with a really

:54:34. > :54:48.good tempo. His eyes on the ball there. No

:54:49. > :54:53.intention. He was watching the ball the whole time. He just caught him.

:54:54. > :55:02.Maybe caught him in the upper part of the leg. He is OK. The referee is

:55:03. > :55:12.right just to wave that one away. 19years of age, Andrew Robertson,

:55:13. > :55:22.made his senior international debut against for Scotland against Poland.

:55:23. > :55:25.Wonderful from MacLean. He has found wot wot.

:55:26. > :55:33.Dunne gets it back for MacKay. MacLean, Dunne. Space for Brian

:55:34. > :55:41.Easton. O'Halloran. Pick pocketed by John

:55:42. > :55:54.Rankin. It has come through to MacLean. Wot

:55:55. > :56:01.wot and May. He couldn't squeeze it through. He does the right thing.

:56:02. > :56:06.Pulls it on to the shoulder of Robertson. Great movement. He takes

:56:07. > :56:09.a wee second too long before he gets his cross in. As soon as he

:56:10. > :56:14.controlled the ball, he should have flashed it straight back across

:56:15. > :56:21.goal. That whole move involved 25 passes from St Johnstone. Switch of

:56:22. > :56:26.play. Fantastic build-up. Armstrong, showed too much of that to Frazer

:56:27. > :56:31.Wright. MacLean finds May. He is on his own right now. Support arriving.

:56:32. > :56:40.He is capable of it. Not from that distance. Maybe too far out. His

:56:41. > :56:44.first shot. Gets the shot away. Steve MacLean linking up the play

:56:45. > :56:50.with him. He will be delighted to get his first shot off. He looks to

:56:51. > :56:54.get a shot off at every single opportunity.

:56:55. > :57:01.Steve MacLean heavily involved in this. Wanting a free-kick here. Good

:57:02. > :57:08.movement from him. He can chop back on to his left foot or deliver the

:57:09. > :57:13.ball back into the box. That is what he is looking for. Robertson pulls

:57:14. > :57:15.him back. I don't know if the referee didn't see it. He pulled him

:57:16. > :57:35.back. Steve MacLean was on the bench for

:57:36. > :57:43.Rangers in 2003. Playing on bench that day, he didn't get on. You did.

:57:44. > :57:48.I have played with Steve at Rangers and Cardiff for six-months. His

:57:49. > :57:57.linkup play for me is the best in the Scottish League. Phenomenonal.

:57:58. > :58:02.He is an unsung hero for St Johnstone. Into double figures as

:58:03. > :58:07.well for the season. Let us not forget his goals as well.

:58:08. > :58:16.Ciftci. He has been brilliant for Dundee United this season. Sometimes

:58:17. > :58:17.plays wide. In the middle today. It seems to be where he is most

:58:18. > :58:43.effective. Too much on it. A good run again

:58:44. > :58:49.from Stevie May. The ball just skipping through. It's been raining

:58:50. > :58:57.here this afternoon, the surface will be greasy. It won't hold up. He

:58:58. > :59:03.can go long, come short, link the play.

:59:04. > :59:19.Four goals in the Scottish Cup for May.

:59:20. > :59:25.Again the pressure from St Johnstone's midfield is superb. They

:59:26. > :59:29.are pressing the game so high. Every time a Dundee United midfielder or

:59:30. > :59:35.defender gets the ball, they are under immediate pressure.

:59:36. > :59:43.Almost found Watson, did Paton. O'Halloran. He has been in terrific

:59:44. > :59:57.form for St Johnstone in recent weeks. Since that semi-final.

:59:58. > :00:08.Ball for Easton, two waiting. One of them is MacLean. He was onside. Well

:00:09. > :00:13.won back. Oh, what a save from Cierzniak. It comes from an overlap

:00:14. > :00:18.from Brian Easton. Good ball into the box. Here is the run. I don't

:00:19. > :00:22.think Steve MacLean can get a shot. Nobody on the edge of the box. It

:00:23. > :00:25.breaks. He catches that sweetly. In the end, tipped over the bar by the

:00:26. > :00:26.keeper. Great move from St Johnstone. They have looked the more

:00:27. > :00:30.dangerous of the two sides. Johnstone. They have looked the more

:00:31. > :00:33.a big worry for United. For me, St Johnstone is one of the best teams

:00:34. > :00:36.in the league from set-pieces. They are a real threat. Good

:00:37. > :00:41.in the league from set-pieces. They them and attacking them. Wot wot

:00:42. > :00:46.takes. Right across for Frazer Wright. I don't think he sees it

:00:47. > :00:53.until late. No time to react. The ball in isn't the best one. It

:00:54. > :01:01.until late. No time to react. The time. Foul by May on Mackay-Steven.

:01:02. > :01:16.It is all set up. Another fine season for Gary Mackay-Steven, some

:01:17. > :01:18.injuries he had to deal with. He is fit today although he was a slight

:01:19. > :01:29.Back to Mackay-Steven. Just snatched doubt.

:01:30. > :01:36.Back to Mackay-Steven. Just snatched it a little. That kind of ball into

:01:37. > :01:43.the box will suit St Johnstone. 60 -- Ciftci does well when it comes

:01:44. > :01:47.in. We just drags it wide. United, certainly the front four, they

:01:48. > :01:51.haven't had time to get on the match, and they do enjoy time and

:01:52. > :01:56.space on the ball and St Johnstone are denying that at every

:01:57. > :01:59.opportunity. That is a great save. Tipping it over the bar, and the

:02:00. > :02:08.connection with the ball was almost better than the save. O'Halloran. He

:02:09. > :02:18.shields it well. He finds Eastern. -- East on. Dundee United's Achilles

:02:19. > :02:24.he is has been conceding. They score a lot, but they concede a lot. Only

:02:25. > :02:28.one clean sheet in the quarterfinals against Inverness.

:02:29. > :02:32.one clean sheet in the quarterfinals only got six

:02:33. > :02:35.one clean sheet in the quarterfinals games before this one. Mannus

:02:36. > :02:40.slicing it away. Not his best start to a match. It comes from Frazer

:02:41. > :02:46.slicing it away. Not his best start the halfway line. He has definitely

:02:47. > :02:52.had a nervy start to the match. Slicing that clearance there. 15

:02:53. > :02:54.Thousand St Johnstone fans Slicing that clearance there. 15

:02:55. > :03:09.him and the expectancy is huge. Mackay-Steven, for Ryan Dow.

:03:10. > :03:16.Secretary -- kitschy -- Ciftci. That is a free kick. Not much in that

:03:17. > :03:19.funny. Just clumsy from Ciftci. He gave the ball away at the edge of

:03:20. > :03:21.the box and was chasing to get it back and he sweeps his leg away.

:03:22. > :03:28.Definite foul, but back and he sweeps his leg away.

:03:29. > :03:35.Another local lad, Wotherspoon. Returning to his local club. Had a

:03:36. > :03:39.long spell at Hibernian. Stephen Anderson, another one waiting for

:03:40. > :03:48.this weekend. That is a good take by a O'Halloran. Should he have hit it

:03:49. > :03:56.the first time? Looks as though he would get a shot away. Good battling

:03:57. > :04:01.back by Ryan Dow. That helped a lot. Ciftci takes it down well. They are

:04:02. > :04:05.so good on the counter, Dundee United. Armstrong, looking for

:04:06. > :04:15.Mackay-Steven. Mackay-Steven did enough.

:04:16. > :04:20.Just nothing between the teams. There were five points between them

:04:21. > :04:31.in the league. United finishing the campaign in fourth, and St Johnstone

:04:32. > :04:39.were six. Watson. He was encouraged to shoot there, John Rankin. He

:04:40. > :05:00.finds MacLean. No way through against Robertson. Mackay-Steven,

:05:01. > :05:02.this is promising for United. Gavin Gunning played in the Scottish cup

:05:03. > :05:09.final for Motherwell a few Gunning played in the Scottish cup

:05:10. > :05:13.ago. Almost scored with an unbelievable shot, I seem to recall

:05:14. > :05:20.will stop however, they lost to Celtic that day. He is underneath

:05:21. > :05:30.that as well. Calmly done, for Paul Paton. That is a 50/50. Stevie May

:05:31. > :05:40.fancies his chances against Sean Dillon. Good defending in the end.

:05:41. > :05:41.He knows May is faster so he has to get his body in front and it clears

:05:42. > :05:56.the danger. -- he clears the danger. Good defending by Watson. Didn't

:05:57. > :06:14.give Stevie May a split second. MacLean. May. A touch rash, not a

:06:15. > :06:21.lot in it. Every time Stevie May finds the ball, he finds MacLean and

:06:22. > :06:23.likewise, MacLean seems to be linking with Stevie May when he

:06:24. > :06:28.finds the ball. They are a great foil for each other. There is a

:06:29. > :06:31.threat here are St Johnstone have a few players who can hit the target

:06:32. > :06:35.from this range. I know Dave Mackay is good from set plays. There is an

:06:36. > :06:49.opportunity here. All three are more than capable of

:06:50. > :06:58.causing Cierzniak problems. Stevie May looks like he is eyeing it up.

:06:59. > :07:07.Thomson sorting the wall out eventually. A O'Halloran is right on

:07:08. > :07:11.the edge of the wall. It is still going to fall for St Johnstone.

:07:12. > :07:16.Wotherspoon! And Cierzniak holds on for dear life. Brilliant from

:07:17. > :07:22.Wotherspoon, cutting inside when he thinks there's a shock. This is

:07:23. > :07:27.excellent. Cutting inside and that's great defending from Gavin Gunning.

:07:28. > :07:33.He does ever so well, and it's lucky that when it hits his foot it might

:07:34. > :07:36.have gone in. It's good defending, but at the same time he could have

:07:37. > :07:47.scored an own goal easily. Lucky for United. United look rocky at the

:07:48. > :07:50.back. Sean Dillon deals with that. David Wotherspoon must've thought he

:07:51. > :07:55.was putting them in front. He did everything right. He cut inside and

:07:56. > :07:59.solve the dummy, rolled it to the corner and if it had not been for

:08:00. > :08:03.the intervention of Gavin Gunning it would have been almost certainly 1-0

:08:04. > :08:05.four St Johnstone, which on the balance of play might have been

:08:06. > :08:38.deserved. John Rankin sweeps it back to the

:08:39. > :08:42.Poll. Millar. We mention at the top of the programme that Dundee

:08:43. > :08:52.United, free scoring have beaten St Johnstone 4-0. But since then,

:08:53. > :08:57.Saints have won the three meetings, 1-0, 2-0, 3-0. Mackay-Steven. Play

:08:58. > :09:04.on says Craig 1-0, 2-0, 3-0. Mackay-Steven. Play

:09:05. > :09:08.for Stuart Armstrong. Good refereeing, letting the play carry

:09:09. > :09:12.on although Armstrong runs out of options he doesn't have the

:09:13. > :09:17.overlap. It takes the shot on and it's a touch ambitious. United have

:09:18. > :09:20.been limited to shots from distance. They are not really getting to the

:09:21. > :09:23.byline apart from in the first minute when Mannus dropped the ball.

:09:24. > :09:38.That's what they sobered up definite foul. Clumsy from Dunne.

:09:39. > :09:39.That's what they sobered up definite is on loan from Stevenage. Ryan Dow,

:09:40. > :10:06.try to sneak through Dunne, who stunned the fingers of

:10:07. > :10:16.Jersey had earlier on -- Cierzniak early on. The only real shot on

:10:17. > :10:37.There was only one MacLean, a bit hopeful from Brian

:10:38. > :10:51.Easton. Play on for Dundee United. Dunne trying to

:10:52. > :11:02.Celtic, Jackie McNamara, a former captain of the club. Cheap again

:11:03. > :11:05.from Dundee United. They need to have better possession of the ball.

:11:06. > :11:10.They don't seem to have any passing patterns together. Not getting the

:11:11. > :11:11.They don't seem to have any passing dangerous players on the ball, which

:11:12. > :11:18.is to do with St dangerous players on the ball, which

:11:19. > :11:37.and it has to improve. That point being made by

:11:38. > :11:42.Some up some industrial language,

:11:43. > :11:42.Some we say, so apologies if you heard

:11:43. > :11:49.that. we say, so apologies if you heard

:11:50. > :11:52.hopeful. These are the type of balls that Frazer

:11:53. > :11:56.hopeful. These are the type of balls those all day long.

:11:57. > :11:59.hopeful. These are the type of balls to come up with something more

:12:00. > :12:01.hopeful. These are the type of balls imaginative to test them. Dundee

:12:02. > :12:03.United bar and imaginative team. They are created. -- creative. They

:12:04. > :12:17.seem a bit stifled at the minute. When United have been good this

:12:18. > :12:21.season they have been very very good. United supporters can forgive

:12:22. > :12:31.their team when they have had the good. United supporters can forgive

:12:32. > :12:34.odd blip in the league campaign, but they can't afford that today. No,

:12:35. > :12:40.they can't through the season they have been excellent. The consistency

:12:41. > :12:44.has been superb and they are such an entertaining team, they attack in

:12:45. > :13:02.numbers and they have gifted players in the team. But they cannot nod off

:13:03. > :13:11.today. Armstrong, to Robertson. Rankin. Twisting and turning away

:13:12. > :13:17.from Anderson. Armstrong. Great ball across, Saints cannot get away. A

:13:18. > :13:27.big shab handball as well inside the box. Calamitous is one word. Great

:13:28. > :13:31.skill from Ryan Dow. The cutback is good to clearances of their players,

:13:32. > :13:34.and luckily for them, the ball falls to their own player. The ball does

:13:35. > :13:40.strike his hand but it's not intentional. In the end, Mannus

:13:41. > :13:48.picks the ball up. Last-gasp defending. Frazer Wright delighted

:13:49. > :13:54.and James Dunne delighted that there was no one in tangerine waiting to

:13:55. > :13:59.snap it up. I don't think that will have done Frazer Wright's broken so

:14:00. > :14:05.many good. But scrappy defending. That is the first time Dundee United

:14:06. > :14:11.have cut through them. You always want to get somebody pass the front

:14:12. > :14:15.post, that is vital. Wonderful support for both teams. Dundee

:14:16. > :14:20.United with 30,000, the biggest ever gathering of air support, we hear.

:14:21. > :14:27.St Johnstone with about 15,000 -- of their support. We believe the

:14:28. > :14:33.roundabout just outside Perth was in a colourful state, shall we say,

:14:34. > :14:39.earlier on today. The stadium looks fantastic, it really does. Hampden

:14:40. > :14:41.Park as a nostalgia, but the atmosphere in this stadium is

:14:42. > :14:45.certainly better, because you are right on top of the pitch, and so

:14:46. > :14:54.far it has been excellent. Going shortly Wotherspoon. Sean Dillon

:14:55. > :14:58.heads away. That is Mackay, and that has not even comparable kick. How

:14:59. > :15:02.much would he have loved that to go in. When it falls doing, he is

:15:03. > :15:05.technically a good player, but he does not get the connection he

:15:06. > :15:12.wants. That is the one he's been dreaming of the last three weeks. A

:15:13. > :15:17.good striker of the ball. He is. St Johnstone keeping the

:15:18. > :15:39.pressure on here. MacKay. St Johnstone's Mr

:15:40. > :15:53.This is Stevie May. The wasn't in the SPFL Team of the Year.

:15:54. > :15:59.This is Stevie May. The aforementioned Robertson scoops it

:16:00. > :16:05.clear. Tremendous flick to put it over his shoulder. Mitt A lovely

:16:06. > :16:10.ball from Wotherspoon. Up and under. Trying to get himself onto the bar

:16:11. > :16:18.there. Took advantage of the of the slip from Armstrong. Rankine kick it

:16:19. > :16:24.is away. Difficult to defend against balls like that. The balls are up in

:16:25. > :16:30.the air for so long. Managing to get it away. It's chess-like at the

:16:31. > :16:37.moment here at Celtic Park. Almost half an hour in, nothing each.

:16:38. > :16:46.Robertson from Ciftci. Good defend, MacKay. Dundee United corner kick.

:16:47. > :16:54.Good defending from Dave MacKay. One thing Robertson has not done enough

:16:55. > :17:01.in the game today. They are used to see him bomb down that left hand

:17:02. > :17:07.side. He's so fast. This was flailing. Gunning puts it past. He

:17:08. > :17:10.mansion to get a head on it. It was always going wide. St Johnstone

:17:11. > :17:13.mansion to get a head on it. It was him under enough pressure. Anderson

:17:14. > :17:17.comes in at the last-minute, gives him a nudge. Not a clean header. If

:17:18. > :17:21.you are not going to win a ball, as a defender, put your opponent off.

:17:22. > :17:25.you are not going to win a ball, as That is what they did. In the end,

:17:26. > :17:30.the header goes harmlessly by. You could see here the rain back on.

:17:31. > :17:42.Glasgow's East End. Greasy surface. Dow, he gets on to that. Ciftci has

:17:43. > :18:00.made the run. Anderson read it. Good touch by Armstrong he finds

:18:01. > :18:06.Paton, back to the United number 10. Ciftci. Armstrong. Then Rankine.

:18:07. > :18:12.Better from United. Yeah. It's Robertson's ball in. Brilliant ball.

:18:13. > :18:16.Brilliant ball! It's Ryan Dow. It isn't going to down count. It came

:18:17. > :18:22.off the inside of the post. What a fabulous move. Is incredible! That's

:18:23. > :18:27.incredible! How unlucky can you get? The best move of the game

:18:28. > :18:30.incredible! How unlucky can you get? Dundee United. Off the inside of the

:18:31. > :18:35.post. Looked like it had gone in from this angle. As the corner comes

:18:36. > :18:40.in. Headed over by Watson. That was more like the Dundee United we know.

:18:41. > :18:42.Five, six, seven, eight passes. The corner coming in.

:18:43. > :18:50.Just headed over the bar. The chance before. Look at that touch from Dow.

:18:51. > :18:57.Again, he would have been dreaming of that. The move deserved the goal.

:18:58. > :19:01.It looked like it was in. Jackie thought it was in as well. Dundee

:19:02. > :19:06.United unfortunate not to have taken the lead. Best move of the match

:19:07. > :19:09.United unfortunate not to have taken from Dundee United. So unlucky not

:19:10. > :19:14.to go in front there. That is when they are at their best, mayinging,

:19:15. > :19:26.short, sharp passes and getting their wide players on the ball.

:19:27. > :19:41.St Johnstone trying to respond to some decent pressure from their

:19:42. > :20:08.opponents. A bit wild from May. He has hit them

:20:09. > :20:14.before and getting them on target. Cleared by United. Stevie May

:20:15. > :20:17.before and getting them on target. the headlines. What have you made of

:20:18. > :20:19.it? I think up until the last five or so minutes St Johnstone

:20:20. > :20:23.it? I think up until the last five have been pleased with the way they

:20:24. > :20:25.started the game. I think the tempo has been excellent. They have

:20:26. > :20:32.pressed Dundee United very, well. Dundee United unable to get

:20:33. > :20:52.their flare -- flair players into Wotherspoon herspoon will leave it

:20:53. > :21:04.for MacKay. Wotherspoon. Trying to get the cross

:21:05. > :21:54.in. Came off him last as well. Ryan Dow so close to putting United

:21:55. > :22:18.ahead, just a couple of moments ago. The closest they've gone.

:22:19. > :22:28.Free-kick. Dow into the back of the MacKay here after he wins the

:22:29. > :22:38.header. Can't see there is too much in that. Signed a new deal did Tommy

:22:39. > :22:41.Rowe. Jackie McNamara has been pleased with the way he came into

:22:42. > :22:47.the team, in particular the second-half of the season. He had a

:22:48. > :22:51.slow start to the season. He wasn't really involved. Since he had his

:22:52. > :23:00.chance he grabbed it with both hands. He deserves

:23:01. > :23:07.It's Wright. Ciftci. Won't come down for Frazer Wright. Better from

:23:08. > :23:34.Dundee United, pressing high up the pitch and putting St

:23:35. > :23:42.Finds Armstrong, wouldn't fall for him. His pass was a good one. For

:23:43. > :23:46.Armstrong it was just behind him. Steps away from the player. A great

:23:47. > :23:55.ball. Just behind Armstrong. He couldn't take it in his stride. The

:23:56. > :23:58.chance is gone. They were here last week Dundee United, a few

:23:59. > :24:02.alterations from Jackie McNamara they lost 3-1 to Celtic. Good

:24:03. > :24:31.performance, by in large, by United. Played back to Easton for Dunne.

:24:32. > :24:42.It's been a good five minutes for Dundee United. Saints look respond.

:24:43. > :24:57.Wotherspoon. MacKay for MacLean. Now, Dow.

:24:58. > :25:06.They are starting to find more space.

:25:07. > :25:12.He was keen to get the ball back. Dundee United starting to find

:25:13. > :25:14.players in positions there that they want them. Which is what they need

:25:15. > :25:27.to do. They need to find space. This is May, Dow takes it from him.

:25:28. > :25:43.Mackay-Steven. It's Robertson. This is May, Dow takes it from him.

:25:44. > :25:47.can see he is trying to think it over the top of the defender to get

:25:48. > :25:52.it on the other side. Good layoff, not quite got it right. Again,

:25:53. > :26:05.better from Dundee United. Andy Robertson wasn't a regular for

:26:06. > :26:10.the whole of last season. He came to Dundee United and made that position

:26:11. > :26:19.his own. He has. A tremendous season. What he does best is get

:26:20. > :26:23.forward and support Gary MacKay season. What he does best is get

:26:24. > :26:28.makeover lapping runs. When he does that he is such a player. Incredibly

:26:29. > :26:36.quick. I think most of the headlines that he has got this year has been

:26:37. > :26:39.for his attacking prowess. A modern-day full-bock has to be able

:26:40. > :27:00.to get forward and put balls in the box, not just defend. -- full-back.

:27:01. > :27:08.I think Anderson has hurt himself here. He has. Don't know whether he

:27:09. > :27:27.landed on his ankle. They will show it here. Yes yeah, that left ankle.

:27:28. > :27:30.Looks as though he has rolled it. Strong boy. What a

:27:31. > :27:35.Looks as though he has rolled it. players. First real chance they had.

:27:36. > :27:41.All-action. No goals yet. Both teams have had a good chance a piece.

:27:42. > :27:45.MacKay has lost five semi-finals with St Johnstone. Anderson,

:27:46. > :27:52.MacKay has lost five semi-finals semi-finals, before he got a place

:27:53. > :28:00.in the showpiece of a Cup competition in Scotland. He

:28:01. > :28:00.in the showpiece of a Cup excellent season.

:28:01. > :28:09.in the showpiece of a Cup Unsung hero really for St

:28:10. > :28:14.in the showpiece of a Cup The only option they had in

:28:15. > :28:18.in the showpiece of a Cup move Dave MacKay. They

:28:19. > :28:30.in the showpiece of a Cup him going, that is for sure.

:28:31. > :28:45.Watson, not seen too much of the ball in this first half. Into the

:28:46. > :28:50.final few moments of it. This might work though. He didn't realise he

:28:51. > :28:55.had plenty of time to get it away. He put it out for the corner anyway.

:28:56. > :28:58.When the ball breaks, everyone things it will go out. Great

:28:59. > :29:04.anticipation. He flashes that across the face. There was nobody in the

:29:05. > :29:07.right place at the right time. To take. United's third of the

:29:08. > :29:15.afternoon. -- Dow. The Something might be in

:29:16. > :29:32.the offing Another corner. Dundee

:29:33. > :29:44.finishing the half the stronger team.

:29:45. > :29:58.Up goes Mannus. . Call for handball. It looked as though it hit

:29:59. > :30:00.of Wotherspoon. Great play again from Dow. He has been the standout

:30:01. > :30:07.player for Dundee United half. Without a shadow of the doubt.

:30:08. > :30:14.It hits his chest. I think the Dundee United fans... In it comes!

:30:15. > :30:19.As I was saying, Ryan Dow, for me, has been the pick of the bunch in

:30:20. > :30:23.this half. He has been at the heart of everything that has been created,

:30:24. > :30:29.certainly for Dundee United. Yeah, that wasn't a penalty kick. Cod

:30:30. > :30:32.recovery challenge as well from David Wotherspoon. A

:30:33. > :30:45.minute-and-a-half of the first half to go. As we were with the Cup

:30:46. > :30:55.final. Robertson gets it away. Might not

:30:56. > :31:00.have heard Cierzniak. O'Halloran does well again, putting the ball

:31:01. > :31:02.into the box. It didn't fall for Stevie May. Dillon clears it in the

:31:03. > :31:19.end. Two minutes to half-time now. Saints looking for the opener before

:31:20. > :31:25.the break. Good defending by United, Watson gets it clear.

:31:26. > :31:56.Stephen Anderson has recovered from the ankle knock earlier on.

:31:57. > :32:04.Ryan Dow has been impressive, justifying his inclusion. Here comes

:32:05. > :32:11.Easton. Great ball in, and away by Robertson. Fabulous ball in. We saw

:32:12. > :32:17.it early in the first half. Putting the ball into a tremendous area, and

:32:18. > :32:34.then good defending, it just would not fall for one of the St Johnstone

:32:35. > :32:44.players. Bit of defending to do before the corner kick. The keeper

:32:45. > :32:49.misses it, and Stephen Anderson heads St Johnstone into the lead. A

:32:50. > :32:54.Scottish cup final goal for Stephen Anderson, and the blue and white end

:32:55. > :32:59.of Parkhead erupts. We talked about St Johnstone from set pieces.

:33:00. > :33:05.Cierzniak does not get anywhere near it. Anderson climbs on top of

:33:06. > :33:09.what's's back, and it's a dream moment for him. You have to ask

:33:10. > :33:13.questions about Cierzniak coming off his line. If you come off the line

:33:14. > :33:16.that far, you have to get something on the ball. A good effort from

:33:17. > :33:22.Anderson, and we mention it from the outset, from set pieces St Johnstone

:33:23. > :33:26.are dangerous. Stephen Anderson's fourth goal of the season and is

:33:27. > :33:30.most important goal for St Johnstone will stop after so much heartache in

:33:31. > :33:34.the past in the cup competitions, for Anderson and St Johnstone, they

:33:35. > :33:38.have given themselves a massive shot in the arm right at the end of the

:33:39. > :33:46.first half of the Scottish cup final. And Anderson header from the

:33:47. > :33:49.Wotherspoon corner. The perfect time to score, some say, on the stroke of

:33:50. > :33:54.half-time. That was after James Dunne had gone close, and Ryan Dow

:33:55. > :34:00.had hit the post. It rolled agonisingly across the six yard

:34:01. > :34:05.box, but Anderson has the final say in the first of the East End of

:34:06. > :34:12.Glasgow, and a half time it is 1-0 two St Johnstone.

:34:13. > :34:18.I was about to say, all this game needs is a goal, but not now. In

:34:19. > :34:21.stoppage time at the end of the first half, those are the

:34:22. > :34:26.celebrations which tell you that St Johnstone are in front in their

:34:27. > :34:33.first-ever Scottish cup final. Stephen Anderson, and 1-0 for the

:34:34. > :34:37.team from Perth halfway through. Let's get the thoughts of our studio

:34:38. > :34:43.guests. Craig Brewster, Allan Preston and Michael Stewart. Well,

:34:44. > :34:48.we have had to calm you down and get you back in the seat. What a moment

:34:49. > :34:52.for St Johnstone. Absolutely tremendous. They started the game

:34:53. > :34:56.really well when United hit the post and they dominated after that. The

:34:57. > :35:01.goals change games and team talks. You look at 0-0 at half-time, and

:35:02. > :35:05.that is an identical goal to the one highlighted earlier. Anderson around

:35:06. > :35:10.the back in the keeper is all over the place. Anderson, ten years at St

:35:11. > :35:15.Johnstone, very fitting to get the gold but the mag. It has been a

:35:16. > :35:19.strange first half -- get the goal to put them ahead. St Johnstone

:35:20. > :35:24.dominated, and then Dundee United got back in, and then when I got

:35:25. > :35:28.back in St Johnstone score. That is a killer for Dundee United on the

:35:29. > :35:32.stroke of half-time. They dominated possession for the last 15, and

:35:33. > :35:37.looked dangerous and created a few opportunities. To lose that goal, as

:35:38. > :35:44.we have just said, highlighted in the previous game carbon copy, back

:35:45. > :35:50.post header. If the goalkeeper stays on his line, he takes it, so Jackie

:35:51. > :35:53.will be disappointed with that. I do believe a certain member of the

:35:54. > :35:58.panel picked out set pieces as a threat and a big plus two St

:35:59. > :36:01.Johnstone, and what a plus. A massive plus Diskerud before

:36:02. > :36:05.half-time, that is a huge lift for them and a killer blow for Dundee

:36:06. > :36:10.United. It changes the game completely because we have been

:36:11. > :36:14.speaking here about them -- the momentum swinging back to Dundee

:36:15. > :36:17.United, but in the first of St Johnstone were all over Dundee

:36:18. > :36:21.United. One giving them any opportunity to play the open and

:36:22. > :36:38.expansive game we like to see them play. Ryan Dow hit the post and then

:36:39. > :36:42.it swung back in their favour. When games are tight, set pieces are

:36:43. > :36:52.vital. It's a horrendous goal to lose.

:36:53. > :36:56.vital. It's a horrendous goal to Watson was at the back post, so

:36:57. > :36:59.vital. It's a horrendous goal to him deal with it. Radoslaw Cierzniak

:37:00. > :37:04.is out watching -- washing the windows. Maybe he was bored and

:37:05. > :37:12.wanted to take part in the game. He is nowhere near him. Watson has to

:37:13. > :37:16.do better. Look at what's on, his eyes are focused on the ball. Not a

:37:17. > :37:21.clue where Anderson is. He is up early, and it's a tremendous header

:37:22. > :37:24.into the back of the net. Earlier in the game there was a corner from the

:37:25. > :37:29.other side, not a great corner, but they didn't deal with it right. They

:37:30. > :37:34.ended up with Cierzniak making the say. But it told you something,

:37:35. > :37:39.there was an alarm there. They have to do better at set pieces, and

:37:40. > :37:43.writer half-time they haven't. There is another argument that there is

:37:44. > :37:46.nobody on the back post. There is a big debate about whether you have

:37:47. > :37:52.guys on the post or not. Someone on the back post might have been able

:37:53. > :37:55.to clear it. Doesn't matter how organised you are at a corner kick,

:37:56. > :38:02.because you can't legislate your goalkeeper missing it by a country

:38:03. > :38:06.mile. Definitely not. The players are deflated and Jackie has a big

:38:07. > :38:09.job to do to build a back-up. The Dundee United fans played a big part

:38:10. > :38:12.with about half an hour gone, they made a big sustained attack and it

:38:13. > :38:19.gave made a big sustained attack and it

:38:20. > :38:20.then, from that they were dominant. It is a reward for St Johnstone

:38:21. > :38:31.roaring out of the blocks. It is a reward for St Johnstone

:38:32. > :38:39.to do with the front two. It is a reward for St Johnstone

:38:40. > :38:42.Every member of the midfield and the front to getting

:38:43. > :38:44.Every member of the midfield and the ball, maybe 18 or 19 passes of the

:38:45. > :38:44.Every member of the midfield and the state going from one side of the

:38:45. > :38:59.pitch to the other. Looking very playback. We talk about Dundee

:39:00. > :39:05.United playing good passing football, but as we have seen, 20

:39:06. > :39:09.United playing good passing passes or so and it ended up with

:39:10. > :39:14.MacLean at the back post. It all starts with that platform upfront.

:39:15. > :39:18.It was along the ball up to there. It sets up Stevie May and MacLean

:39:19. > :39:24.and allows them to play in the opposition half. St Johnstone a

:39:25. > :39:27.experience and have Stevie May, but they have demonstrated in the first

:39:28. > :39:33.half that there is more to them than that. They looked confident from the

:39:34. > :39:37.word go, and when you see them passing, they are confident, moving

:39:38. > :39:42.the ball and Dundee United sitting deep, so Dundee United cannot then

:39:43. > :39:48.receive the ball and have any sustained possession. Horrific

:39:49. > :39:53.build-up that led to the first serious threat on goal, which was

:39:54. > :39:56.the shot from James Dunn. Tremendous play, very confident, everybody

:39:57. > :40:02.looking for the ball as much as they can. Everybody is shouting for it.

:40:03. > :40:05.When you look up, and that is a problem with United, they've only

:40:06. > :40:08.got one striker. When you look up you got players to play for, patient

:40:09. > :40:13.play, popping it. Trying to get you got players to play for, patient

:40:14. > :40:17.many involved as they can. Shunting them about from one side to the

:40:18. > :40:20.other. A great ball from Brian Easton. Wotherspoon does well. What

:40:21. > :40:29.a strike that is. That is one for the cameras. That is what has caused

:40:30. > :40:33.Dundee United problems, they are not static, they are interchanging. This

:40:34. > :40:38.is the corner we were talking about. The guy at the front post from

:40:39. > :40:43.Dundee United here, you have to deal with that better. He ended up being

:40:44. > :40:49.able to fall onto it, but that's an alarm bell. Zon Johnson are

:40:50. > :40:52.dangerous from set pieces. Michael speaking about the front four and

:40:53. > :40:58.the interchanging, and it's all the things we were saying about Dundee

:40:59. > :41:02.United. We knew they would put balls in the box, St Johnstone, and they

:41:03. > :41:06.have done it. The big fear was that creating all of the chances, and

:41:07. > :41:09.here is another one arising from Stevie May's free kick, was when you

:41:10. > :41:16.don't score when you have that much of the game it can go against you.

:41:17. > :41:19.It was a sucker punch. That was great play from Wotherspoon. Lovely

:41:20. > :41:24.composure. Sucks the defender in. You have to give credit to the

:41:25. > :41:31.United defender who gets a great block. That was going in the bottom

:41:32. > :41:35.corner. This epitomises the first half-hour, they were first to react.

:41:36. > :41:41.Wotherspoon got onto the loose ball and created a great opportunity

:41:42. > :41:44.beckons. It says something that it took Dundee United 28 minutes to

:41:45. > :41:53.cause anything like a scare in the St Johnstone penalty box. They were

:41:54. > :41:59.closing down, the back four were solid. Then suddenly United got a

:42:00. > :42:04.bit of decent possession, worked it well. A great roll back from

:42:05. > :42:09.Armstrong to Ryan Dow. Cut back, then suddenly the game was on. The

:42:10. > :42:16.United fans got a lift. I think the players got a real belief from that

:42:17. > :42:21.and they grew in stature. Shelter handball there, but no chance. One

:42:22. > :42:27.yard away from the ball, no chance. Only the most optimistic Dundee

:42:28. > :42:29.United supporters thought that was a penalty. But Ryan Dow was in a

:42:30. > :42:36.fraction of getting penalty. But Ryan Dow was in a

:42:37. > :42:39.the game. This is what they had not been able to do in the first half an

:42:40. > :42:41.hour. They were able to get the combination pass

:42:42. > :42:46.hour. They were able to get the the right-hand side, coming out the

:42:47. > :42:49.other side and a fantastic ball in from Robertson. A real deft touch

:42:50. > :42:55.from Ryan Dow to get across the centre half. He is lucky it did not

:42:56. > :42:59.end up in the back of the net. Watson was also coming in, so both

:43:00. > :43:05.fullbacks are pushing forward. That was a terrific effort. He has been

:43:06. > :43:08.really good in the first. He is one whether you wondered that he might

:43:09. > :43:13.move on because he's been there a long time, on the fringes of things

:43:14. > :43:19.but when he has got in he has taken his chances will stop I thought he

:43:20. > :43:24.was a real spark. He was in the middle of it. He was really

:43:25. > :43:29.unfortunate. How many times have we seen a comeback of the post and hit

:43:30. > :43:31.the goalkeeper and going west will Jackie McNamara be disappointed not

:43:32. > :43:38.just with the scoreline but with way Dundee have played. As some of the

:43:39. > :43:43.play being a bit aimless? It was half an hour or so. Just aimless

:43:44. > :43:46.balls over the back, trying to turn St Johnstone. The first five or ten

:43:47. > :43:52.minutes of a game, you can understand it, you want to stretch

:43:53. > :43:55.the game and give the players space to play. But St Johnstone was so

:43:56. > :43:58.much on top in the game that Dundee United could not get a rhythm. The

:43:59. > :44:01.first half and that there were only balls like that. That is bad for

:44:02. > :44:05.Dundee United, but Jackie will take confidence from the fact that we

:44:06. > :44:08.highlighted that chance and they started to get back in the game and

:44:09. > :44:15.then there is the sucker punch but the set piece that comes in against

:44:16. > :44:20.them. You have to give St Johnstone credit for shaking them out of their

:44:21. > :44:24.stride. I didn't think Dundee United expected them to play it as well as

:44:25. > :44:28.they did. They got the ball down, past it, and the midfielders could

:44:29. > :44:32.squeeze up and support the strikers. Crosses coming in the box, St

:44:33. > :44:35.Johnstone playing really well in the opening half-hour, the Dundee United

:44:36. > :44:40.are very much in this game. They need more from Armstrong. Robertson

:44:41. > :44:45.has done reasonably well going forward, but Watson has to provide

:44:46. > :44:50.the ammunition for Ciftci. I want to talk about the atmosphere, which has

:44:51. > :44:56.been fantastic. A terrific turnout from both sets of support, maybe

:44:57. > :45:01.more than 28,000 per Dundee United. This horse shoe of tangerine around

:45:02. > :45:05.Celtic Park, and the other end of the ground, 15 Thousand Johnstone

:45:06. > :45:09.fans. It really is a good atmosphere. Maybe it is an

:45:10. > :45:11.atmosphere that is better here than it would have been a Hampden Park

:45:12. > :45:17.because the stands are closer to it would have been a Hampden Park

:45:18. > :45:22.pitch. There's no that when the stanza further away -- the stands

:45:23. > :45:26.are further away, it takes the atmosphere away, so to have this

:45:27. > :45:29.many fans in at Celtic Park, it is conducive to having a good

:45:30. > :45:33.atmosphere and it has certainly been that today. They have got the game

:45:34. > :45:36.they deserve. Dundee United fans won't feel that at the minute, but

:45:37. > :45:41.plenty of time for their team to respond. But with that is the

:45:42. > :45:48.backdrop to what is happening, it has been at that end of that first.

:45:49. > :45:52.Fantastic spectacle and both sets of fans playing their part. A response

:45:53. > :45:59.from Dundee United, do you think? fans playing their part. A response

:46:00. > :46:02.One goal, it can happen in a split-second, so there's definitely

:46:03. > :46:06.plenty to play for four Dundee to United and I'm sure they

:46:07. > :46:10.plenty to play for four Dundee to out the way they ended the half

:46:11. > :46:17.apart from that corner kick. Here is the story so far. It's the showpiece

:46:18. > :46:19.occasion to end the Scottish football season, certainly the last

:46:20. > :46:23.piece of major silverware that is upper grabs. It has been compelling

:46:24. > :46:34.stuff so far. Ryan Dow with that glancing shot. It

:46:35. > :46:42.might have gone in off Alan Mannus in the end. To Jackie McNamara

:46:43. > :46:49.disappointment it came off the post. To the joy of St Johnstone and their

:46:50. > :46:55.supporters. Anderson heading in for 1-0 right on half-time. Tommy Wright

:46:56. > :47:00.will want the same again? Clean sheet, we have won the Cup we will

:47:01. > :47:04.go up the room. The players will have their hairs standing up. He

:47:05. > :47:08.will be telling them, every single one of them, defend properly. Do

:47:09. > :47:12.your job. Take no chances. We are away with the Cup as simple as that.

:47:13. > :47:16.What will we get from Dundee United second-half They are capable of

:47:17. > :47:20.better? Dundee United needed to play in St Johnstone's half and get

:47:21. > :47:24.Payton and Rankine on the ball to dictate, allowing the full-backs to

:47:25. > :47:29.get forward. Obviously, stop cross balls coming in their box. Highcle,

:47:30. > :47:33.what are you expecting? How will it develop? I expect the way the

:47:34. > :47:36.second-half, the first half finished, to continue into the

:47:37. > :47:42.second-half. Dundee United have to get onto the front foot. As Bruce

:47:43. > :47:46.pointed out. From Dundee United Perspex thif are up in St Johnstone

:47:47. > :47:50.half and putting them under pressure. Might have to change their

:47:51. > :47:57.shape, Dundee United. They have Graham there. They may go 4-4-2.

:47:58. > :48:00.They need men forward. It will help St Johnstone. They are

:48:01. > :48:04.counter-attack against them. What St Johnstone can't afford to do,

:48:05. > :48:09.Michael, is sit-in and think, we are 1-0 up, ahead, protect it? Exactly.

:48:10. > :48:14.That is dangerous. If Dundee United push up, then they will get more

:48:15. > :48:19.support to Ciftci. He has been too isolated at the moment. If they play

:48:20. > :48:24.in St Johnstone's half he will have more support. St Johnstone can't

:48:25. > :48:32.back track and set up camp inside their own box. A great spectacle

:48:33. > :48:37.first half. We need goals from Dundee United. Jackie McNamara will

:48:38. > :48:42.have some words to say to his Dundee United team during that half-time

:48:43. > :48:47.interval. His team is one goal down, half way through this 20114 William

:48:48. > :49:04.Hill Scottish Cup Final. St Johnstone have their noses in front,

:49:05. > :49:14.courtesy of Steven Anderson. Now we can go get to the second-half.

:49:15. > :49:20.COMMENTATOR: Up to 10, five now for the season for Steven Anderson. He

:49:21. > :49:26.was at Dundee United more than 10 years ago. Long servant with the

:49:27. > :49:35.Perth team. Six semi-final defeats at the club. A goal in the William

:49:36. > :49:40.Hill Scottish Cup Final. The 300 appearance. Huge moment for him and

:49:41. > :49:47.potentially St Johnstone Football Club in their ever first Scottish

:49:48. > :49:53.Cup Final. They have never won a major trophy. Jackie McNamara

:49:54. > :50:00.changed dramatically in the final few seconds of that first half? I

:50:01. > :50:04.imagine it would have. Going in at half-time 0-0 the game evenly

:50:05. > :50:08.balanced. St Johnstone had the better start. United came more into

:50:09. > :50:13.the game as it progressed. Worse thing to lose a goal right on the

:50:14. > :50:16.strike of half-time. I know it's a cliche. They have work to do. The

:50:17. > :50:19.good thing for United. They have options from the bench. They have

:50:20. > :50:26.impact players that can come on and make a difference. Graham, Gauld, El

:50:27. > :50:30.Alagui. They will have to push for this goal. At what point they really

:50:31. > :50:34.throw caution to the wind remains to be seen. You have to make sure St

:50:35. > :50:37.Johnstone don't counter you. St Johnstone are happy to defend deep.

:50:38. > :50:45.Changes for either at the break. It has been 10 years since the team

:50:46. > :50:53.that scored first lost the Scottish Cup Fooinal that was Dunfermline in

:50:54. > :51:00.2004. Robertson making a good run. He is just onside. The he needs to

:51:01. > :51:14.do more of this half. He is one of their main threats. He slips off.

:51:15. > :51:21.They need to to commit more numbers to the box. Jackie McNamara was a

:51:22. > :51:28.defender who scored in a Scottish Cup Final for Celtic against Hibs.

:51:29. > :51:38.An early goal he came on as a sub that day. A foul there. May just

:51:39. > :51:41.using his strength. Yeah, two hands on him. A swan-dive over the top of

:51:42. > :51:50.him. Definitely a free-kick. The goalscorer fancies another one.

:51:51. > :52:07.Easton takes for Wright. It's MacKay. And Chris Millar. Away

:52:08. > :52:21.by Watson. MacKay, blocked by Armstrong. United throw. Good

:52:22. > :52:33.pressure again from St Johnstone. The MacKay just getting blocked.

:52:34. > :52:43.Much tighter final than we have seen in recent years. Last four Scottish

:52:44. > :52:47.Cup Finals have been pretty one-sided affairs. John Rankin

:52:48. > :52:52.pumping it forward. Look at Ciftci. No, it's not. It looked like a

:52:53. > :53:03.free-kick. Ciftci hauled to the ground. Plays on says Craig Thomson.

:53:04. > :53:07.This time it's a free-kick. There was something that happened off the

:53:08. > :53:12.ball that I didn't see, involving Ciftci and Frazer Wright. That one

:53:13. > :53:19.is, without a shadow of a doubt, a booking, and a free-kick. Something

:53:20. > :53:21.did happen. I'm not sure. Wright with a yellow card. Not sure what it

:53:22. > :53:27.was in the box. Frazer Wright went with a yellow card. Not sure what it

:53:28. > :53:29.down. Here is a great opportunity. A fabulous opportunity. Dunne, booked.

:53:30. > :53:47.That was for the foul on Dow. Dundee United, four minutes into the

:53:48. > :53:50.second-half. Having conceded right on half-time have a chance for

:53:51. > :53:59.immediate retaliation here. Gunning can hit it. Mackay-Steven can,

:54:00. > :54:01.Ciftci as well. Ciftci fancies it. The roar goes up from those in

:54:02. > :54:07.tangerine and black. Mannus waits. The fans have to wait a little bit

:54:08. > :54:23.longer. Not much longer though. Ciftci, eyeing this one up. Oh, he's

:54:24. > :54:27.so unlucky! Mannus holds on. He does absolutely everything right. A

:54:28. > :54:33.textbook free-kick. Reverse it is straight into the top corner. It

:54:34. > :54:39.comes down. You are sure it is in. It bounces and how happy was Alan

:54:40. > :54:43.Mannus to turn and see the ball sitting behind him and not in

:54:44. > :54:46.Mannus to turn and see the ball goal. A brilliant effort. Wonderful

:54:47. > :54:51.free-kick from Nadir Ciftci. 17 goals this season for Dundee United.

:54:52. > :54:58.His first at the club. He was inches away from drawing United level in

:54:59. > :55:02.the 2014 Scottish Cup Final. His technique is wondering. He does

:55:03. > :55:11.everything right. It hits the under side of the bar. Maybe that is a

:55:12. > :55:14.sign. The man who brought him to Jackie McNamara's attention was a

:55:15. > :55:19.former Celtic striker. He scored a winner in the Scottish Cup Final

:55:20. > :55:24.former Celtic striker. He scored a himself. The Ciftci, away from

:55:25. > :55:32.scoring in one of these himself. Payton -- Paton flies into Dunne.

:55:33. > :55:43.How has Craig Thomson viewed this foul? He went in hard and fast. I

:55:44. > :55:48.think he takes the ball. It was two-footed though. I didn't see it.

:55:49. > :55:54.He wins the ball. It's definitely two-footed. I think he's lucky he

:55:55. > :55:57.didn't catch the player. You see that thing punished with a red card?

:55:58. > :56:01.You do. He didn't make contact with the player. I think if he had he

:56:02. > :56:06.could have been looking at a red card. He will need to watch what he

:56:07. > :56:14.is doing now. I didn't realise it was two-footed. Paton joins Dunne in

:56:15. > :56:18.the book. He is so combative is Paul Paton. He followed his manager from

:56:19. > :56:26.Partick Thistle, from across the city here, up to Tannadice. Has a

:56:27. > :56:31.word with Craig Thomson before taking up his post. Attacking sense.

:56:32. > :56:37.In from Wotherspoon. Loads of space taking up his post. Attacking sense.

:56:38. > :56:40.for Wright. He put it in with his hand. Is it already in? That

:56:41. > :56:43.for Wright. He put it in with his question. Is the ball already in?

:56:44. > :56:49.Craig Thomson is trying to sort this out. Stevie May thinks he has put St

:56:50. > :56:54.Johnstone 2-0 up here. Craig Thomson is

:56:55. > :56:57.Johnstone 2-0 up here. Craig Thomson the looks of things, has given St

:56:58. > :57:02.Johnstone a 2-0 lead. Is he changing his mind. It looks as though he has

:57:03. > :57:07.given it here, the referee. Or has he? It's over the line. The

:57:08. > :57:21.given it here, the referee. Or has is over the line, I think.

:57:22. > :57:29.Confusion reins. There is the best view. Well Craig Thomson. It's not.

:57:30. > :57:33.It's not over the line. A view. Well Craig Thomson. It's not.

:57:34. > :57:38.handball. The goal was given. Then it wasn't. Then it was again. Then

:57:39. > :57:47.it was flipped away from Stevie May. You have to say then, great

:57:48. > :57:53.refereeing. A bizarre situation really. The official behind the

:57:54. > :57:56.goal, he has made that decision there for Craig Thomson who

:57:57. > :57:59.initially gave the goal. Eventually, gave the free-kick for Dundee

:58:00. > :58:07.United. A big, big moment in this final. Remember, Craig Thomson gave

:58:08. > :58:12.a penalty in an Old Firm Cup final a few years ago before rescinding it.

:58:13. > :58:15.Ciftci hits it. He has been given a free-kick. St Johnstone think that

:58:16. > :58:20.is soft. They think that is a dive. I have to say, I thought it was a

:58:21. > :58:23.dive also. He comes inside. He has. He's dived. Looked for the

:58:24. > :58:29.free-kick. In a dangerous area for Dundee United. He has bought the

:58:30. > :58:33.free-kick and Craig Thomson has fallen for it. You can see why the

:58:34. > :58:44.St Johnstone players aren't happy. Might that be a tide Turner? It's

:58:45. > :58:47.back to 1-0. Dundee United have a free-kick, again, on the edge of the

:58:48. > :58:52.St Johnstone penalty area. I would have said, looking at Ciftci, it was

:58:53. > :58:59.more suited to a left-footer. He might try what he did the last time.

:59:00. > :59:04.He hit the bar last time. Can he go one better here?

:59:05. > :59:13.Nadir Ciftci. A sea of tang row and black behind Alan Mannus's goal.

:59:14. > :59:17.This time it's over the bar. Wasn't as good as his last one. I think

:59:18. > :59:20.that should have been a left-footer taking that free-kick. The angle

:59:21. > :59:25.wasn't right for him much he puts it over the bar. It has been certainly

:59:26. > :59:28.an explosive start to this second-half.

:59:29. > :59:35.an explosive start to this stuff. This is the big moment. He

:59:36. > :59:39.doesn't even need to put it in with his hand. He could stick it in with

:59:40. > :59:48.his knee, his body in front or get it in somehow. It's a reaction thing

:59:49. > :59:51.really. You didn't bargain on the official behind the goal-line seeing

:59:52. > :59:56.it. Craig Thomson didn't see it. The goal was initially given. The

:59:57. > :59:59.concern for Dundee United is, when the ball came into the box. The

:00:00. > :00:04.chance comes from Frazer Wright heading the ball across the keeper.

:00:05. > :00:10.There wasn't a single player near Frazer Wright inside the box. You

:00:11. > :00:18.want to mark him when the ball is going into box. In the end an

:00:19. > :00:21.instinctive save from Cierzniak. The could Stevie May have knocked it in

:00:22. > :00:26.with his tummy, anything, to get it across the line. Frazer Wright,

:00:27. > :00:30.taking it back, that free-kick that led to that situation, the free

:00:31. > :00:34.header for Frazer Wright, just at the back end of the box? That is

:00:35. > :00:45.what I'm saying. You can't give Frazer Wright that space in the box.

:00:46. > :00:53.He is the first person, when you should ensure he is being picked up.

:00:54. > :01:03.Mackay-Steven is pressuring him. He is going to get hauled back to the

:01:04. > :01:04.free kick. I think he's unlucky. He puts Dave McKay under a lot of

:01:05. > :01:08.pressure, and he should puts Dave McKay under a lot of

:01:09. > :01:10.of the ball before he did, and when he does win it, there is no free

:01:11. > :01:30.kick. He is very unlucky. That goes right through to chairs

:01:31. > :02:03.near -- Cierzniak. Radoslaw Cierzniak, just six clean

:02:04. > :02:06.sheets this season. They didn't defend the corner right on half-time

:02:07. > :02:17.which has given St Johnstone the advantage. Away by Armstrong.

:02:18. > :02:21.which has given St Johnstone the might have hurt himself there. It

:02:22. > :02:23.was a spectacular looking clearance. I think he has winded himself when

:02:24. > :02:37.he landed after the overhead kick. He has had such a good couple of

:02:38. > :02:43.seasons, Stuart Armstrong. One of the scorers when United beat

:02:44. > :02:51.Inverness 5-0 in the quarterfinals. And also in the semifinal victory at

:02:52. > :02:56.Ibrox against Rangers. Mackay-Steven Ciftci with the other goals there.

:02:57. > :02:59.It has been a tough route through to the final for Dundee United.

:03:00. > :03:05.Premiership teams all the way through to the semifinals, then

:03:06. > :03:09.Rangers on their own turf. St Johnstone's route to the final has

:03:10. > :03:14.been difficult as well, not quite as broad as Jackie McNamara's team. You

:03:15. > :03:15.can only beat who you are drawn against. St Johnstone knocked

:03:16. > :03:39.Aberdeen out in the semifinals. MacLean. Intelligently done.

:03:40. > :03:41.Dunne. A little bit too much on it for me. The right idea.

:03:42. > :03:47.Dunne. A little bit too much on it right area but overhit

:03:48. > :03:51.Dunne. A little bit too much on it bit now. And I think Dundee United

:03:52. > :03:57.need to get their forward players on the ball. Robertson has pushed up on

:03:58. > :04:01.the left, almost playing like a secondary winger. At one point they

:04:02. > :04:12.will have to commit to the game to get a goal back.

:04:13. > :04:14.will have to commit to the game to options on the bench.

:04:15. > :04:18.will have to commit to the game to for them if they need it. Well

:04:19. > :04:29.worked by Ryan Dow. Finds Mackay-Steven. The challenge across

:04:30. > :04:32.by David McKay. He has had a great match, against a player who

:04:33. > :04:36.one-on-one is very difficult to play against. That is solid defending,

:04:37. > :04:41.nothing more than you would expect from Dave Mackay. I think he didn't

:04:42. > :04:52.do much, no malice may be just rolled his ankle in the challenge.

:04:53. > :04:56.That is an hour gone. Still a third of the final, but Mackay-Steven

:04:57. > :05:01.looks like he's struggling. He is struggling. You can see he's in a

:05:02. > :05:04.lot of pain. Whether he his ankle in the challenge. Ryan Gauld is warming

:05:05. > :05:23.up. All three of the forward players the challenge. Ryan Gauld is warming

:05:24. > :05:42.away on the counter. Look at the run from Dunne inside. It is

:05:43. > :05:44.end stuff. What a final. 29 minutes end stuff. What a final. 29 minutes

:05:45. > :05:49.we could have here. Robertson going all the way here. He forces Mannus

:05:50. > :05:56.into the save. This is unbelievable. First

:05:57. > :06:05.into the save. This is unbelievable. ball. A great curling effort, and to

:06:06. > :06:06.into the save. This is unbelievable. breaking with the ball. The shot is

:06:07. > :06:16.just straight down the keeper's wrote. Ryan Dow's corner kick. Swept

:06:17. > :06:18.away by Easton. Anywhere will do. Back in by Robertson. Gavin Gunning.

:06:19. > :06:24.McKay heads it away. Back in by Robertson. Gavin Gunning.

:06:25. > :06:31.it away. Mackay-Steven is back on the part, but not moving freely.

:06:32. > :06:35.Sean Dillon had to win it, and he does. He read the situation very,

:06:36. > :06:43.very well. This game has really opened up. Both sides going forward,

:06:44. > :06:50.and St Johnstone are very capable on the counterattack. The fire has been

:06:51. > :06:57.lit under the 2014 Scottish cup final.

:06:58. > :07:11.Plenty more tales to tell in this game, you feel.

:07:12. > :07:24.Ciftci. Still St Johnstone holding the lead. They hold the keys to the

:07:25. > :07:30.silver. Ryan Gauld will come on, and it will be for Gary Mackay-Steven.

:07:31. > :07:35.He has been hobbling since he took a knock. He will be disappointed, in

:07:36. > :07:39.such a big game, not having the impact he would have wanted to have

:07:40. > :07:42.in the match. He has been reasonably quiet by his standards but it gives

:07:43. > :07:45.Ryan Gauld an opportunity. He would have been disappointed not to start

:07:46. > :07:51.the match. He's such a talented young man. He has absolutely

:07:52. > :07:55.everything. He could really make an impact here and be a Dundee United

:07:56. > :08:01.hero. Listen to the reception for Ryan Gauld as he comes on. A

:08:02. > :08:05.wonderful talent. 18 years of age. He is going to slot into the

:08:06. > :08:07.position just in front of Ciftci. Armstrong will go to the left and

:08:08. > :08:22.Ryan Dow on to the right. He has had a lot of headlines,

:08:23. > :08:27.called -- Ryan Gauld. He could add a point to that if he finishes the

:08:28. > :08:30.season like this. He will be disappointed with that ever because

:08:31. > :08:35.he's only 20 yards out. The ball as across his body and sitting

:08:36. > :08:40.perfectly. Great play by MacLean. This linkup play is good. We could

:08:41. > :08:43.have opened his body up, and he will be disappointed not to hit the

:08:44. > :08:53.target. Another opportunity for St Johnstone. The big man from Belfast

:08:54. > :09:00.watchers on. -- watches on. His team still lead. O'Halloran showed too

:09:01. > :09:05.much of it to Robertson. Craig Thomson bringing that back.

:09:06. > :09:50.O'Halloran, back to what the spoon. O'Halloran again. A real burst of

:09:51. > :09:53.pace. -- to Wotherspoon. Corner. Great play, turning and trying to

:09:54. > :09:56.commit players. Him and Wotherspoon have done that from the wide areas

:09:57. > :10:00.very well today. That is what you want to see players do. Committing

:10:01. > :10:09.their defenders, and another set piece from the St Johnstone team who

:10:10. > :10:15.are deadly from them. Already scored from a set piece today. That man's

:10:16. > :10:23.gaudy, and he's looking for another. Almost dropped to Frazer

:10:24. > :10:29.Wright. Stephen Anderson, what a good game he is having. Too much on

:10:30. > :10:32.it that time from Wotherspoon. One man who changed the course of the

:10:33. > :10:36.semifinal against Aberdeen was Michael O'Halloran. And we saw it in

:10:37. > :10:41.a corner kick that they got eventually. In the second half

:10:42. > :10:49.against Aberdeen he changed it, just giving St Johnstone something, but

:10:50. > :10:54.Lee Croft and give them that. But he gives them another dimensional. What

:10:55. > :11:05.he has got is that he is very direct. He can play as a more

:11:06. > :11:12.traditional winger. He is a very technically gifted footballer. Look

:11:13. > :11:19.at his workrate to get back on the ball. It is a St Johnstone ball. The

:11:20. > :11:29.United fans beginning to get frustrated. Yes, they can sense that

:11:30. > :11:39.time is running out. John Rankin certainly took the ball. Craig

:11:40. > :11:51.Johnstone's third Scottish cup final. Not quite nail-biting time

:11:52. > :12:00.yet, but close. The final quarter of the Scottish cup final. No guts, no

:12:01. > :12:14.Glory, they say as Anderson heads it away. Gavin Gunning. Armstrong. Ryan

:12:15. > :12:22.Gauld, first touch him. Stuart Armstrong, playing on the left-hand

:12:23. > :12:34.side remember. Ryan Dow. He was encouraged to shoot, and did so.

:12:35. > :12:45.Armstrong takes a corner. Ryan Dow is in a hurry to take it. Up comes

:12:46. > :12:52.the skipper. In from doubt. Rankin knocks it back in. Dowell comes, and

:12:53. > :12:57.Anderson gets a clear. Brian Easton there as well. Robertson. He

:12:58. > :13:04.Anderson gets a clear. Brian Easton keep it going for United. Headed

:13:05. > :13:07.away by Brian Easton. Back Mannus. It just won't fall

:13:08. > :13:14.away by Brian Easton. Back Mannus. United. Keith Watson. Really brave

:13:15. > :13:17.from Ryan Dow because he knows he has a six foot five goalkeeper

:13:18. > :13:30.coming on and he tries to put his head in front of it just determined

:13:31. > :13:31.to play here. St Johnstone like defending like that, the last-ditch

:13:32. > :13:43.defending. They defending like that, the last-ditch

:13:44. > :13:46.onto a lead. They have never been in the Scottish cup final, St

:13:47. > :13:50.Johnstone. Just the two league cup finals in the past. Just their third

:13:51. > :13:58.major final. They have lost both those finals, 1-0

:13:59. > :14:04.major final. They have lost both 2-1 to Rangers. And here in 1999,

:14:05. > :14:10.major final. They have lost both now an assistant coach at the

:14:11. > :14:13.Jose earthquakes in the states. United try to apply pressure.

:14:14. > :14:14.Jose earthquakes in the states. Wotherspoon. Completed by Stevie

:14:15. > :14:22.May. Maybe a bit too Wotherspoon. Completed by Stevie

:14:23. > :14:25.He gets away with it. John Rankin. He knew the challenge was coming.

:14:26. > :14:34.It's sit straight to Easton. That He knew the challenge was coming.

:14:35. > :14:36.a free kick. Sean Dillon coming through the back of him, and Dundee

:14:37. > :14:41.United through the back of him, and Dundee

:14:42. > :14:46.numbers. It was almost one against one with MacLean, and should he get

:14:47. > :14:49.control, he would be exposed. Probably a clever foul in the end

:14:50. > :14:55.because it gives him time to get the team behind the ball again. St

:14:56. > :14:58.Johnstone are one of the best teams in the

:14:59. > :15:01.Johnstone are one of the best teams the lead. It is a lead that they

:15:02. > :15:06.possessed with a less than 20 minutes of the Scottish cup final to

:15:07. > :15:09.be played, and the referee is over because

:15:10. > :15:15.be played, and the referee is over McNamara. Out of shot

:15:16. > :15:21.He was alerted by the fourth official there.

:15:22. > :15:26.Just a word in the ear of Jackie McNamara. He knows the clock

:15:27. > :16:01.continues to tick down on him. Gavin Gunning gets it away. Michael

:16:02. > :16:06.O'Halloran wins the corner kick. Yes, St Johnstone had another spell

:16:07. > :16:10.in the match, just before this. There was a chance to put the ball

:16:11. > :16:17.in the box. But they have won a corner. I think Michael O'Halloran

:16:18. > :16:32.is coming off in a moment. Lee Croft is getting ready to come on.

:16:33. > :16:40.There was just too much in the header. He was trying to headed back

:16:41. > :16:47.to a dangerous area. O'Halloran can be pleased with his contribution to

:16:48. > :16:54.the team. He has worked really hard. He deserves the standing ovation he

:16:55. > :16:57.is getting. Lee Croft will give them something a little bit different, in

:16:58. > :17:05.terms of allowing them to drift wide and get more crosses in. Lee Croft

:17:06. > :17:10.was a first-team squad member at Manchester City. That was ten years

:17:11. > :17:40.ago. He played under Kevin Keegan and Stuart Pearce.

:17:41. > :17:54.United still have Brian Graham and Farid El Alagui on the bench. He has

:17:55. > :18:04.stuck to his defensive task well. That was brilliant. He looks quite

:18:05. > :18:11.composed. They do not. They are clock watching. So the St Johnstone

:18:12. > :18:14.supporters, but for entirely different reasons. They have never

:18:15. > :18:56.won a major trophy. The game is going through a lull

:18:57. > :18:58.just now. At what point does Jackie McNamara throw caution to the wind?

:18:59. > :19:42.This will suit St Johnstone. That was aimed for Nadir Ciftci. Not

:19:43. > :19:49.quite. It was good movement of the back of Frazer Wright. The ball just

:19:50. > :19:52.get out. We have seen that several times today. I think Dundee United

:19:53. > :20:28.need to be more imaginative. Brian Graham is ready to come on for

:20:29. > :20:34.Dundee United. They need us are at -- they need inspiration from

:20:35. > :20:39.somewhere. That is a goal kick. It came off Robertson last. Yes, this

:20:40. > :20:47.time it is not David Mackay doing the defensive responsibilities. It

:20:48. > :20:53.is Lee Croft, who is fresh. You are right, it hits Robertson. Maybe Lee

:20:54. > :20:58.is Lee Croft, who is fresh. You are Croft was brought on for that

:20:59. > :21:03.reason, to help David Mackay. Paul Paton is coming off, and Brian

:21:04. > :21:07.Graham is coming on. Brian Graham was a prolific goal with Raith

:21:08. > :21:21.Rovers. 27 goals last year in the second tier.

:21:22. > :21:29.He definitely gives them a different option. They can go in the air. He

:21:30. > :21:52.is tall and strong, he holds the ball up well.

:21:53. > :21:57.Stevie May, sizing it up. I was going to give him the benefit of the

:21:58. > :22:03.doubt, and say that that was a cross, but it was not, it was

:22:04. > :22:24.assured. That is no problem for St Johnstone. It is another

:22:25. > :22:31.It is not happening. No, they are not finding that spark. Jackie

:22:32. > :22:38.McNamara is trying to shuffle his not finding that spark. Jackie

:22:39. > :22:44.front four. The creative players are not getting on the ball. They are so

:22:45. > :22:48.threatening, but at this time, it is not happening. You have got to

:22:49. > :23:41.credit St Johnstone for pressing them.

:23:42. > :23:48.Brian Graham! He takes his first touch ever so well. It is its from

:23:49. > :23:50.Gavin Gunning. Brian Graham, onto his left foot, and he is looking for

:23:51. > :23:58.the far corner. It is just wide. He his left foot, and he is looking for

:23:59. > :24:24.cannot wrap his food around it. That was a big chance. -- his

:24:25. > :24:29.it. Dundee United have to try and conjure something

:24:30. > :24:34.it. Dundee United have to try and are moving into the last ten

:24:35. > :24:39.minutes, plus injury time. There is always an opportunity in the last

:24:40. > :25:11.stages of games. St Johnstone have been defending very well.

:25:12. > :25:23.He cannot get the ball across. Brian Easton was in front of him, blocking

:25:24. > :25:24.the cross all the way. This is torture for the Dundee United

:25:25. > :25:39.supporters. How close was that? That was inches

:25:40. > :25:46.away. Fabulous play from Ciftci. It was wonderful. He skips past tea-mac

:25:47. > :25:51.men. When he gets the shot away, you think it is going into the bottom

:25:52. > :26:11.corner. Dundee United are really turning the screw, committing men

:26:12. > :26:13.forward. -- skips past two men. Ciftci has gone

:26:14. > :26:27.forward. -- skips past two men. second half for Dundee United.

:26:28. > :26:36.St Johnstone had three men in the box. Lee Croft is normally so good

:26:37. > :26:43.at finding his team-mates, but he just hit the first man there, which

:26:44. > :26:59.is a cardinal sin. You have got to get the cross into the box.

:27:00. > :27:04.There are people like St Johnstone who do not feel they get enough

:27:05. > :27:09.credit for what they do. They finished third in the top flight

:27:10. > :27:12.last season. Sixth place this season, but not too far away from

:27:13. > :27:20.their points tally of the last campaign. David Wotherspoon is going

:27:21. > :27:44.to come off, to be replaced by Gary McDonald.

:27:45. > :27:56.That will surely win the Scottish Cup for St Johnstone. It is their

:27:57. > :28:01.first major trophy. Steven McLean with the goal that may well turn him

:28:02. > :28:07.and his team-mates in the legends. You have to say that it is all over

:28:08. > :28:12.for Dundee United. The ball breaks kindly for Steven McLean, but she

:28:13. > :28:22.shows great opportunism. It is a good run for -- from is -- from

:28:23. > :28:30.Stevie May. The ball just falls for Steven McLean. He does well to get

:28:31. > :28:41.it in. This came of John Rankin. He was very unfortunate. Steven McLean,

:28:42. > :28:45.having been on the bench for 2003, while he was at Rangers, he has

:28:46. > :28:55.played a Stanning role for Tommy Wright this afternoon. Look what it

:28:56. > :28:58.means to the big man from Belfast. So many St Johnstone managers have

:28:59. > :29:05.failed to get this club to silverware, the major silverware,

:29:06. > :29:09.but he is so close now. Steven McLean's contribution today has been

:29:10. > :29:15.epic, in terms of leading the line for St Johnstone. He is an unsung

:29:16. > :29:29.hero. His linkup play is set in the none in this league. -- is second to

:29:30. > :29:40.none. He was yellow carded for taking his top off in celebration.

:29:41. > :29:46.He will not give a job. -- not give a jot. Dundee United have five

:29:47. > :30:25.minutes to try and score twice. Ciftci blocked, and when it's not

:30:26. > :30:30.your day, it's not your day. Ciftci blocked, and when it's not

:30:31. > :30:38.love defending, and they have defended so well. Dundee United only

:30:39. > :30:51.love defending, and they have go for it. -- they

:30:52. > :30:57.Ryan Dow putting it straight to Mannus. Another good bit of play

:30:58. > :30:58.from Ryan Dow. He has been a standout. Going past man, getting

:30:59. > :31:12.the shots away, but not today. The St Johnstone funds perhaps

:31:13. > :31:17.cannot believe what they are The St Johnstone funds perhaps

:31:18. > :31:29.They've never seen it before. They are not celebrating as yet. They are

:31:30. > :31:33.not very close now. The Jackie McNamara it is just not happening

:31:34. > :31:39.his team on a ground he knows so well, on which she had so much

:31:40. > :31:42.success as a player. A few of them have looked at the clock. They

:31:43. > :31:43.success as a player. A few of them there is an long left.

:31:44. > :31:50.success as a player. A few of them he had so much success.

:31:51. > :32:27.ball. Ryan Gauld puts it through but there

:32:28. > :32:42.ball. Ryan Gauld puts it through but pass. Here comes Ryan Dow.

:32:43. > :32:52.finding top form in this game, and that is why they

:32:53. > :32:53.finding top form in this game, and able to get the creative and

:32:54. > :32:56.influential players on able to get the creative and

:32:57. > :33:00.that is down to the way St Johnstone have pressed the game. The way they

:33:01. > :33:01.have defended has been impenetrable. For me, they thoroughly deserved to

:33:02. > :33:13.lift the cup. Dejection only

:33:14. > :33:17.supporters. Elation for those who have made the journey from

:33:18. > :33:22.supporters. Elation for those who and I'm sure from further afield, to

:33:23. > :33:56.come to this special occasion. As this cup final

:33:57. > :34:01.St Johnstone have defended this very easily. United with a couple of

:34:02. > :34:06.St Johnstone have defended this very opportunities in the second half and

:34:07. > :34:07.the yellow card is going to come out here for Gavin Gunning. Three

:34:08. > :34:15.minutes added here for Gavin Gunning. Three

:34:16. > :34:21.from winning the Scottish cup. Just frustration from Gavin Gunning more

:34:22. > :34:23.than anything. We know how much it means to the players, the Scottish

:34:24. > :34:30.cup final. And you can see that it is slipping out of their grasp.

:34:31. > :34:41.Another loser 's medal for Gavin Gunning. Three minutes of injury

:34:42. > :34:45.time confirmed. The scarves and the flags among the St Johnstone end.

:34:46. > :35:06.All being hoisted above their heads. There will be one or two people who

:35:07. > :35:09.will talk about the shortcomings of Dundee United, but the fact is, St

:35:10. > :35:15.Johnstone have played this cup final like a fiddle. You can't take

:35:16. > :35:21.anything away from St Johnstone. All of the players reached peak

:35:22. > :35:29.performance on the day, and you can look at the workrate of the St

:35:30. > :35:32.Johnstone team. Their organisation has been exemplary, and the

:35:33. > :35:33.defending has been incredible. Chancellor Armstrong to pull one

:35:34. > :35:39.back. Frazer Wright doing Chancellor Armstrong to pull one

:35:40. > :35:43.does best. He's been doing it for years and years. Sees danger

:35:44. > :35:50.does best. He's been doing it for throws his body on the line. Right

:35:51. > :35:58.to the end, 2-0 up. That, right there sums it up. That is the

:35:59. > :36:01.biggest chance of the day, and unfortunately for Graham, he has had

:36:02. > :36:04.to since he came on and he has to hit the target. St Johnstone

:36:05. > :36:08.disappointed to lose it near the front pose. And he knows himself who

:36:09. > :36:14.should be hitting the target. That does sum up their day. It really

:36:15. > :36:23.hasn't gone to them. The one they hit the bar and comes back. They say

:36:24. > :36:28.losing semifinals is the worst feeling. Surely losing the final is

:36:29. > :36:34.worse than that. Talk about a great day out, it's only a great day out

:36:35. > :36:36.if you win it. And Stephen Anderson won't be feeling any pain in and it

:36:37. > :36:44.also as Ciftci goes into the book. won't be feeling any pain in and it

:36:45. > :36:48.Macro -- clumsy challenge, deference -- desperate challenge. I'm sure

:36:49. > :36:49.Anderson will be all right when he is heading towards the St Johnstone

:36:50. > :36:58.fans. They are seconds away from the

:36:59. > :37:14.biggest St Johnstone cheer there has ever been. Tommy Wright knows it.

:37:15. > :37:22.Stephen Anderson, right on half-time. Stephen MacLean, late on.

:37:23. > :37:27.Their names are about to be etched into St Johnstone folklore. Craig

:37:28. > :37:43.Thomson has already checked his watch. St Johnstone your time has

:37:44. > :37:45.come! History has been created. And boy, they have had a long wait for

:37:46. > :37:52.this. For a crack at this boy, they have had a long wait for

:37:53. > :37:59.wait till they get their hands on it, which they will do now. A first

:38:00. > :38:04.Scottish cup final in their 130 year history and the silverware is going

:38:05. > :38:09.to Perth. We can hear immediately from Tommy Wright.

:38:10. > :38:17.130 years without a trophy, so sum up how that feels question the lads

:38:18. > :38:22.were absolutely superb. The first half, chances were both teams, but I

:38:23. > :38:26.can't thank those lads enough, what they've done for me since I got the

:38:27. > :38:35.job, and the rest of the staff. I'm so pleased that so many people. The

:38:36. > :38:38.chairman, all the staff, I am proud. There will be a lot of people a lot

:38:39. > :38:42.prouder than I am today as well. You took this job a year ago and did you

:38:43. > :38:43.envisage that you would end of the season like this in your wildest

:38:44. > :38:51.dream he did say jokingly that I should

:38:52. > :38:55.win a trophy in my first year. And I said I will, jokingly. But as it

:38:56. > :38:59.went on we had a belief we would win the cup. I watched the chance in the

:39:00. > :39:03.first than I thought it was in. It hit the ground and just spun away,

:39:04. > :39:05.and then I knew it was going to be our day. Go and enjoy the

:39:06. > :39:13.celebrations. Well done. Wait worth waiting for this

:39:14. > :39:16.generation of St Johnstone supporters. Tommy Wright succeeding

:39:17. > :39:21.where some of the St Johnstone greats have failed. Even the great

:39:22. > :39:26.Willie Ormond did not manage this. Tommy Wright and his team are now St

:39:27. > :39:33.Johnstone legends. A sparkling chapter in the club's history has

:39:34. > :39:44.been painted by Tommy Wright. The Scottish cup is going to McDiarmid

:39:45. > :39:49.Park. So many men held in huge esteem in the club, but as the name

:39:50. > :39:58.of Tommy Wright and Callum Davidson, his assistant. All of the 11 men,

:39:59. > :40:05.and the substitutes as well who came on, McDonald and Croft. The

:40:06. > :40:06.and the substitutes as well who came division title triumphs, the

:40:07. > :40:12.European ties against the like of Monaco this season. A new standard

:40:13. > :40:25.has been set. Fraser, sum up how that feels for

:40:26. > :40:33.you and the boys? Absolutely delighted. We've waited a long time,

:40:34. > :40:36.so we will savour it. You came into the match as an underdog, but did

:40:37. > :40:39.you feel you were coming in a second favourite Christmas we didn't

:40:40. > :40:43.deserve to be second favourites. The last three games we beat them doubly

:40:44. > :40:51.and they did not score against us. We did it again. The media hype them

:40:52. > :40:54.up. Tommy Wright with a huge impact in his first season. Tell us what he

:40:55. > :40:59.has done for you guys? The gaffer came in and said he trusted us and

:41:00. > :41:03.he knew we were hard-working boys, so we repaid his trust. Look at the

:41:04. > :41:05.fans behind you, what they've them. We have waited a long time that this

:41:06. > :41:15.and they deserve it. A wonderful day for St Johnstone

:41:16. > :41:21.football club. You can see what it means to the supporters and players.

:41:22. > :41:29.They have one their first major trophy it finishes 2-0.

:41:30. > :41:38.Well, the party has been 130 years in the making, so it should be quite

:41:39. > :41:41.a shindig in Perth and the district for all of the St Johnstone

:41:42. > :41:46.supporters inside Celtic Park, and lots of you watching on television

:41:47. > :41:52.and listening on the radio as well. A joyous moment, and nobody inside

:41:53. > :41:55.the studio has enjoyed it more than Allan Preston. Absolutely delighted.

:41:56. > :41:58.The best players on the Allan Preston. Absolutely delighted.

:41:59. > :42:03.Johnstone. They thoroughly deserved the victory. They rode their luck a

:42:04. > :42:07.little bit, the shot off the post and the crossbar, but take nothing

:42:08. > :42:09.away from them. What they have done for St Johnstone as a bubble club,

:42:10. > :42:13.it is a family, it's not just for St Johnstone as a bubble club,

:42:14. > :42:20.players on the substitutes, it's the coaching staff, the office staff,

:42:21. > :42:23.the fans. A real family club with a wonderful achievement and I'm so

:42:24. > :42:27.the fans. A real family club with a happy for them, especially the

:42:28. > :42:28.family but the money into the club and move them to McDiarmid Park and

:42:29. > :42:34.they have their wishes and move them to McDiarmid Park and

:42:35. > :42:36.have won a honour. Craig Brewster, you are bitterly disappointed the

:42:37. > :42:39.Dundee United, but what a fantastic final. Yes,

:42:40. > :42:42.Dundee United, but what a fantastic deserved it. From the first minute

:42:43. > :42:46.they were at it and deserved it. From the first minute

:42:47. > :42:51.was winning the midfield battler St Johnstone did. The back four were

:42:52. > :42:57.solid and defensively they never gave United anything to hang onto

:42:58. > :43:05.Dundee United had a few unlucky moments but overall, St Johnstone

:43:06. > :43:08.deserved the win. A special moment for Jeff Brian and his boy who runs

:43:09. > :43:11.the club, but they for Jeff Brian and his boy who runs

:43:12. > :43:17.have ploughed so much into the club financially and otherwise, and today

:43:18. > :43:26.comes that big reward, and it was such a big day for St Johnstone.

:43:27. > :43:29.Their first-ever Scottish cup final. It often happens when you work so

:43:30. > :43:35.Their first-ever Scottish cup final. hard for it, they delivered a

:43:36. > :43:38.massive performance. They delivered a massive performance and that was

:43:39. > :43:42.what was needed. They did not allow Dundee United get into the game at

:43:43. > :43:45.any point. They closed down and stop the creative players from getting

:43:46. > :43:51.involved, and it was thoroughly deserved. I am delighted for St

:43:52. > :43:56.Johnstone at the club. Everything Allen said was spot on in regard to

:43:57. > :44:00.St Johnstone. It is a just reward for what Tommy Wright has done this

:44:01. > :44:05.season. He has clearly gone in and galvanised the players. They want to

:44:06. > :44:09.play for him, and you can see with performances like that they believe

:44:10. > :44:12.in what he's trying to do and I cannot emphasise enough how much

:44:13. > :44:17.that was a deserved win for St Johnstone. Some people will have

:44:18. > :44:20.seen a side of St Johnstone today that they did not know existed. They

:44:21. > :44:24.can certainly play, and they that they did not know existed. They

:44:25. > :44:28.ugly side well. The fitness levels were phenomenal. I said to Michael

:44:29. > :44:31.and Craig that they cannot sustain it, but they did, they kept going.

:44:32. > :44:36.They seemed to get energy from all over the place man the second goal

:44:37. > :44:40.gives your adrenaline left, but from start to finish the tactics were

:44:41. > :44:45.spot on. -- gives your adrenaline a lift. They got a goal from the set

:44:46. > :44:51.play. I thought MacLean was excellent. Anderson was man of the

:44:52. > :44:53.match, but MacLean was tremendous. Dave Mackay, that is our captain

:44:54. > :44:57.plays. A wonderful display. Tommy Dave Mackay, that is our captain

:44:58. > :45:00.Wright and the team have done so well. It's time to pick up their

:45:01. > :45:06.prizes, and at the end of it, the big prize. Back to Stephen and Liam.

:45:07. > :45:15.Yes, the guys summing it up well. It will take a while for this to sink

:45:16. > :45:18.in for Tommy Wright. He took Lisburn distillery to their first-ever

:45:19. > :45:24.Northern Ireland League Cup when they defeated Portadown and that was

:45:25. > :45:30.three years ago. He has just led St Johnstone to their first-ever major

:45:31. > :45:34.trophy. The presentation party will be out in a moment or two. They are

:45:35. > :45:39.up on stage. It takes a little while for that to be built.

:45:40. > :45:41.up on stage. It takes a little while tears. I saw one of the Dundee

:45:42. > :45:48.United. They will get their runners-up medals in a moment.

:45:49. > :45:49.United. They will get their heartbreaking. It really is. All

:45:50. > :45:54.they will have done is think about today in the last two weeks, and

:45:55. > :46:04.lifting the trophy. Do not get it, they are so dejected, and my heart

:46:05. > :46:07.goes out to them. They would have been full of

:46:08. > :46:14.confidence. They have entertained this season. Without a doubt, they

:46:15. > :46:19.will be back. They have these very talented youngsters tied up the

:46:20. > :46:25.decent contracts. Ryan Dow has signed a new contract. Ryan Gauld,

:46:26. > :46:29.Gary Mackay-Steven, most of them have got a couple of years. It will

:46:30. > :46:34.cost money for clubs to prise them away from Tannadice. Stuart

:46:35. > :46:41.Armstrong has been so consistent over the last couple of seasons. All

:46:42. > :46:48.of those flamboyant performances and unbelievable scorelines this season,

:46:49. > :46:55.they will be scant consolation. Just like the runner-up medal for Nadir

:46:56. > :47:09.Ciftci. But they will be back. Without a doubt. Footballers full of

:47:10. > :47:14.highs and lows. -- football is full. They have a great squad and a great

:47:15. > :47:20.manager. You feel that they can achieve things over the next few

:47:21. > :47:30.years. The nonexecutive director of William held there. Presenting the

:47:31. > :47:36.medals. -- William Hill. The referees get the medal as well. They

:47:37. > :47:39.had a good game. Yes, all five of them, is specially the touchline

:47:40. > :47:44.official and the goal line official, for calling that

:47:45. > :47:52.correctly. We assumed it had gone over the line as well. There is the

:47:53. > :47:57.man that made the call. It did not end up being a crucial call. Finally

:47:58. > :48:07.we have seen behind the goal line official make a big decision. Tommy

:48:08. > :48:13.Wright leads St Johnstone onto the podium to receive the William Hill

:48:14. > :48:21.Scottish Cup. What a moment for them. This will live with them

:48:22. > :48:27.forever. St Johnstone's 24th manager is Tommy Wright. He replaced Steve

:48:28. > :48:31.Lomas one year ago. That European run, because it felt like a run at

:48:32. > :48:38.the time, St Johnstone began their season in the middle of July. They

:48:39. > :48:44.knocked out the Norwegian giants Rosenberg in European qualification.

:48:45. > :48:52.They will enter European competition at the same stage this year. Not

:48:53. > :48:58.perhaps the longest summer break that they have ever had. But there

:48:59. > :49:03.are fewer in the Scottish game that deserve what is about to happen to

:49:04. > :49:12.David Mackay here more. Beaten finalist at Dundee 11 years ago, and

:49:13. > :49:16.at the age of 34, he is going to lift the Scottish Cup trophy, the

:49:17. > :49:23.oldest club competition Trophy in the footballing world. The 2014

:49:24. > :49:37.William Hill Scottish Cup belongs to St Johnstone.

:49:38. > :50:01.This means so much to the players and the manager, but what does it

:50:02. > :50:05.mean to the Brown family? It is a massive day for St

:50:06. > :50:13.Johnstone, and a great day for the family. You have got one over on

:50:14. > :50:18.your old man now, haven't you? You could say that. But he laid the

:50:19. > :50:22.foundations. Lots of hard work was done before I took over. You have

:50:23. > :50:26.been around the club for so long. done before I took over. You have

:50:27. > :50:30.What does this mean to you and the done before I took over. You have

:50:31. > :50:41.club as a whole? It means a lot to the people up there. Perth is never

:50:42. > :50:45.seen as at football city. Let's hope this will change things. 130 years

:50:46. > :50:52.without a major trophy. How crucial to this was Tommy Wright?

:50:53. > :50:57.without a major trophy. How crucial competition he has been involved in,

:50:58. > :51:01.he has done really well. Tommy was really confident before the game. He

:51:02. > :51:06.was in no doubt that we would win the game. He has been fantastic.

:51:07. > :51:14.was in no doubt that we would win are containing your

:51:15. > :51:23.Congratulations. They are delighted, and more than a

:51:24. > :51:27.little emotional as well. Photographs are being taken around

:51:28. > :51:32.the ground. The air is turning blue and white around Celtic Park. The

:51:33. > :51:38.awards of tangerine clad supporters have disappeared into the early

:51:39. > :51:44.evening. It is all about Perth and St Johnstone, and this glorious

:51:45. > :51:51.moment. David Mackay will have enjoyed it.

:51:52. > :51:57.Getting sent Johnson to their first major trophy, how does it feel?

:51:58. > :52:13.Unbelievable. We have worked so hard for it. -- dating St Johnstone. What

:52:14. > :52:19.do you think of the backing from the fans? It is incredible. It is one

:52:20. > :52:27.third of the population of Perth. We are delighted to reward them with

:52:28. > :52:32.the trophy. Hopefully he will be a future St Johnstone player. Take

:52:33. > :52:43.your fingers out. Thank you, enjoy it. David Mackay kept Gary

:52:44. > :52:50.Mackay-Steven very quiet. What are showing. It is difficult to pick out

:52:51. > :52:53.one man, because this was such a polished performance from St

:52:54. > :53:02.Johnstone. The two centre-halves were immense. You are right. You

:53:03. > :53:08.cannot pick out one person. I thought Steven McLean was how voters

:53:09. > :53:13.-- was head and shoulders above the rest of them, but you have got to

:53:14. > :53:20.say, nine out of ten for everyone else, and ten out of ten for Steven

:53:21. > :53:24.McLean. Tommy Wright went into this game with real confidence. Frazer

:53:25. > :53:31.Wright as well. It looks like they were correct. They had a right to

:53:32. > :53:35.believe, because they have beaten Dundee United three times this

:53:36. > :53:40.season. On the day, they won every battle on the pitch. They were

:53:41. > :53:48.worthy winners. Brian Easton is next.

:53:49. > :53:52.The rain is on, but it will not dampen the celebrations. Definitely

:53:53. > :54:00.not. It is some feeling. We have put in hard work. Europe earlier on, and

:54:01. > :54:05.now we are Scottish Cup winners. You could not have imagined it at the

:54:06. > :54:09.start of the season. You have seen your friends go on to great things

:54:10. > :54:15.in England, but now you have a Scottish Cup winners' medal. It is

:54:16. > :54:22.brilliant. I am proud of them in the FA Cup, even though I was a little

:54:23. > :54:27.jealous. My family are here to Jesus on. It is brilliant that they get

:54:28. > :54:34.this feeling as well. You will be celebrating for a few days after

:54:35. > :54:38.this? Yes, at least a few days. That is the season over. It is great to

:54:39. > :54:44.finish on a high. We can enjoy the summer now. Thank you.

:54:45. > :54:49.There is Mark Millar, enjoying his summer now. Thank you.

:54:50. > :54:56.moment as well. Chris Millar, I should say. All of the St Johnstone

:54:57. > :55:03.players in front of the supporters. It is special. The team story is

:55:04. > :55:08.overriding everything else. Brian Easton, he left Hamilton heading for

:55:09. > :55:12.big things in England. He had to come back, relaunching his career at

:55:13. > :55:20.St Johnstone. Now he is a Scottish Cup winner. So many of the team have

:55:21. > :55:25.had ups and downs in their career. David Mackay, he went down side, he

:55:26. > :55:34.was homesick. He has been a great servant for them. David Wotherspoon

:55:35. > :55:39.left Hibs on a down. He has found a manager who believes in him. A

:55:40. > :55:46.fantastic performance right across the board from St Johnstone. It was

:55:47. > :55:50.a thoroughly deserved victory. They deserve to enjoy it for at least a

:55:51. > :56:01.couple of weeks. He is Steven Anderson. -- here is. How did it

:56:02. > :56:08.feel when the goal went in? I was delighted. It was a crucial time to

:56:09. > :56:14.get a goal. It changes so much? Yes, it changes the influence. You have

:56:15. > :56:18.something to hang onto. And believable celebrations for you

:56:19. > :56:24.guys. You have had to wait for more than a hundred years for this, for

:56:25. > :56:31.St Johnstone. It is good to be a part of history. It is all about

:56:32. > :56:41.memories and women in games. -- and winning games. Giving the Scottish

:56:42. > :56:46.Cup a couple, Tommy Wright. St Johnstone are winners, Dundee United

:56:47. > :56:52.losers. This is Jackie McNamara. That must be gutting for you. Give

:56:53. > :56:56.us a flavour of how you are feeling. I am very disappointed for the

:56:57. > :57:02.players, after the effort they have put in, not just today, but to get

:57:03. > :57:07.is here. I need to congratulate St Johnstone for winning the trophy. It

:57:08. > :57:13.just was not our day-to-day. Thin margins, hitting the post, the

:57:14. > :57:25.crossbar. They got the goal at half time. -- our day today. How crucial

:57:26. > :57:33.was that, when the ball hit off the crossbar, and after the free kick?

:57:34. > :57:38.Yes, it is small margins. That is what separated us in the game. I

:57:39. > :57:48.still think we can play better than we did today. There was no real pace

:57:49. > :57:57.at some times. They seem to have mastered the art of knowing how to

:57:58. > :58:02.play you. Yes, it is lot easier to stop them to create. They have had a

:58:03. > :58:05.fantastic season, credit the Tommy Wright and his players. I want to

:58:06. > :58:13.congratulate them on winning the trophy. Thank you.

:58:14. > :58:18.Disappointment for Jackie McNamara. Gracious as well. Praise for St

:58:19. > :58:23.Johnstone. Richly deserve. This is the man that got the second goal,

:58:24. > :58:28.Steven McLean. It was a tight game throughout.

:58:29. > :58:34.Your goal put St Johnstone on the road to victory. How does it feel?

:58:35. > :58:41.To score the second goal in a Scottish Cup Final, what a feeling.

:58:42. > :58:44.For you guys, coming into this match, perhaps as underdogs, did you

:58:45. > :58:52.feel there was less pressure on you? We were quietly confident.

:58:53. > :58:58.Everyone else made as underdogs. We know that we are a good side. No one

:58:59. > :59:03.turns silver. Dundee United have great qualities. They were

:59:04. > :59:08.unfortunate couple of times today. Sometimes you need a bit of luck,

:59:09. > :59:16.but we deserved it in the end. Some upward Tommy Wright has done for the

:59:17. > :59:23.team? He is a fantastic manager, a great leader and a nice guy. The

:59:24. > :59:28.transition for -- the transition from Steve Lomas to him has been

:59:29. > :59:34.smooth. He is a great guy. This is your strike partner, Stevie May. No

:59:35. > :59:39.goals today, but I am sure you will get that opt for the cup? Yes,

:59:40. > :59:42.regardless of how we won it, it was about getting the victory. How has

:59:43. > :59:46.it been this season? There about getting the victory. How has

:59:47. > :59:52.lots of headlines about you and your goal scoring exploits? Did you

:59:53. > :59:55.lots of headlines about you and your any added pressure? No, I was just

:59:56. > :00:00.excited for the occasion and the chance of winning a trophy. I am

:00:01. > :00:04.happy for the boys. We have been unbelievable all season.

:00:05. > :00:08.happy for the boys. We have been indicated that you want to stay

:00:09. > :00:12.here. Can you categorically say that you will be a St Johnstone player

:00:13. > :00:17.next season? I would like to think so. It is out of my hands slightly,

:00:18. > :00:26.but I am happy here, playing football and winning trophy. There

:00:27. > :00:31.is no reason to think otherwise. Stevie May's hometown will

:00:32. > :00:36.is no reason to think otherwise. happy place. It is party time.

:00:37. > :00:41.Europe will come calling again in mid-July for St Johnstone, going

:00:42. > :00:43.into the qualifiers and it seems so long ago that they beat Rosen Borg

:00:44. > :00:50.in the same competition. That long ago that they beat Rosen Borg

:00:51. > :00:56.the moment. There is a lot of partying to be done. They probably

:00:57. > :01:00.played more games than anyone else, getting to the latter stages of the

:01:01. > :01:04.league cup, then the Scottish cup final, then started in Europe early,

:01:05. > :01:07.and then a full season. These lads have stepped up to the plate. People

:01:08. > :01:12.say Stevie May might need to leave to win something, but he doesn't,

:01:13. > :01:17.you can win trophies at St Johnstone, and it's been proved

:01:18. > :01:20.today. The St Johnstone fans thoroughly deserve it. They have

:01:21. > :01:24.been ridiculed for the lack of numbers that turn up to the games,

:01:25. > :01:31.but they have backed them vocally today and I spoke to Tommy Wright

:01:32. > :01:34.this morning, and he told me and the cameras and the chairman they would

:01:35. > :01:40.win the cup, and he was proved to be right. You can see the emotion all

:01:41. > :01:42.over the faces of the St Johnstone supporters. The older they are, the

:01:43. > :01:47.more they feel it, because they have been through disappointments, and

:01:48. > :01:51.today it is the ultimate success. It's not easy to win this trophy.

:01:52. > :01:56.130 years, and you look at these players, and you look back 20 years,

:01:57. > :02:02.and you have to enjoy this occasion. Some of those players might not get

:02:03. > :02:06.back to a Scottish cup final and there is nothing better than

:02:07. > :02:12.enjoying that success. They have do really Sample and savour every

:02:13. > :02:15.minute of it. One third of Perth was here, and the other two thirds of

:02:16. > :02:22.Robbie watching in their living room as well. -- two thirds of Perth were

:02:23. > :02:29.watching. I think the whole town, Hull City, their areas. The whole

:02:30. > :02:35.city will be absolutely over the moon -- the whole town, the whole

:02:36. > :02:39.city. When you have waited for a long time a major trophy like this,

:02:40. > :02:43.you deserve it. We spoke through the whole programme that St Johnstone

:02:44. > :02:48.were the better team. Their players are put in a great performance.

:02:49. > :02:51.Tommy Wright clearly has the affection of the players, and they

:02:52. > :02:54.all like him. That combination, a manager the players want to play

:02:55. > :02:58.for, that means they will but the performances in. That was what was

:02:59. > :03:01.needed today and that is what the St Johnstone players have done. The end

:03:02. > :03:05.result is they have lifted the trophy. Here is another of the local

:03:06. > :03:11.lads who will have enjoyed this more than most. David Wotherspoon.

:03:12. > :03:16.Tremendous day for St Johnstone. Is all the sweet of you having missed,

:03:17. > :03:21.-- missed out on the cup finals? Massively sweeter. I was thinking

:03:22. > :03:25.about them walking out there and it just puts it into perspective will

:03:26. > :03:30.stop you can bounce back, no matter what. I think I have proved that

:03:31. > :03:35.this year. Scottish cup winners 2014, that just puts everything to

:03:36. > :03:39.bed. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it? What does it mean to you as a local

:03:40. > :03:46.lad? Coming back to Blaby or home time -- town. -- coming back to play

:03:47. > :03:52.for your hometown. It is fantastic. They have been through a lot. It is

:03:53. > :03:56.massive now. Everybody will be behind them and I'm sure there will

:03:57. > :04:00.be a lot of support and they have been fantastic the whole season.

:04:01. > :04:07.It's well-deserved. A massive party in Perth tonight am ago and enjoyed.

:04:08. > :04:11.I think the St Johnstone fans might have to be persuaded to leave sooner

:04:12. > :04:15.or later. They have no desire to go anywhere at the moment. They want to

:04:16. > :04:20.share this with Tommy Wright and his team. It has been all about blue and

:04:21. > :04:25.white today and it has been St Johnstone's day. A bit of ill

:04:26. > :04:29.health, Tommy Wright recently. He has picked up since then. He is not

:04:30. > :04:40.going to get a better pick me up than this one. I said to him I would

:04:41. > :04:45.go and have a pint with him if he wins it and he told me he would be

:04:46. > :04:51.having that point. He has good guys under him, Alec Clelland, Callum

:04:52. > :04:54.Davidson. This all-star. -- the whole staff. It's not about the

:04:55. > :04:58.individuals, it is the whole staff, the whole support group that helps.

:04:59. > :05:02.He's done a wonderful job because Steve Lomas had lost the changing

:05:03. > :05:05.room, to be honest. Some of the players didn't like his attitude.

:05:06. > :05:10.Tommy came in and transform the club. They are all in it together

:05:11. > :05:16.and the team spirit is second to none. We talked about set pieces in

:05:17. > :05:20.the build-up to the match and no great surprise that it was one of

:05:21. > :05:31.those on the stroke of half-time that brought us the opening goal.

:05:32. > :05:34.That is what won the game. St Johnstone started the brightest,

:05:35. > :05:43.then United got control and that killed the game for me. It gave them

:05:44. > :05:48.the belief in the second half. We tote that spoke about Tommy and the

:05:49. > :05:53.team, and have we seen a real team today? Jackie was very gracious

:05:54. > :05:57.about St Johnstone, and maybe there was a resignation midway through the

:05:58. > :06:04.second half that it was not going to be their day. Yes, he tried

:06:05. > :06:09.everything, but it wasn't to be. His individual players did not perform

:06:10. > :06:13.today and you need that. You need the performance from the players and

:06:14. > :06:19.the work. And some luck. It came back off the post. The big one was a

:06:20. > :06:23.half-time when they lost the goal. St Johnstone forced the issue. It's

:06:24. > :06:26.not like Dundee United handed it to them on a plate. They made this

:06:27. > :06:30.happen right from the kick-off. Definitely. You look at the previous

:06:31. > :06:35.fixtures between the two teams, clearly St Johnstone have got the

:06:36. > :06:41.upper hand. They know how to play them and they have taken that

:06:42. > :06:46.tactical idea and used it in today's game and imposed themselves from the

:06:47. > :06:51.off. As we said in commentary, we create your own luck. -- you create

:06:52. > :06:55.your own luck. Dundee United were unfortunate, they hit the post, the

:06:56. > :06:58.crossbar. Those little bits that St Johnstone got, they worked for it.

:06:59. > :07:02.When that happens you get your own luck. We wondered if Dundee United

:07:03. > :07:06.might scramble the game luck. We wondered if Dundee United

:07:07. > :07:12.time but all doubt was removed when MacLean scored this goal. At this

:07:13. > :07:15.point they are playing a five-man midfield. Stevie May runs in and

:07:16. > :07:20.gets a break and it goes through to MacLean. The keeper comes out and he

:07:21. > :07:29.reacted brilliantly. He is on the ground and gets the right footing.

:07:30. > :07:32.Very brave, and he reacts first. Sean Dillon is two yards deeper than

:07:33. > :07:36.Gavin Gunning. He is playing him on site. We spoke about it at the

:07:37. > :07:39.beginning of the game, the centre half partnership being important

:07:40. > :07:46.today. Little things like that, yes, it was a break of the midfielder,

:07:47. > :07:50.but you can see Sean Dillon on the edge of the box, you can't have the

:07:51. > :07:55.two centre halves in lines like that because you will eventually get

:07:56. > :08:02.punished. There goes Tommy Wright down the touchline on the way to his

:08:03. > :08:06.own individual celebration. We should give plaudits, and we have

:08:07. > :08:11.done during the game, let's do it again to Alan and the refereeing

:08:12. > :08:14.team for getting it absolutely right with what looked like a second St

:08:15. > :08:18.Johnstone goal and wasn't, but what a good spot and suddenly we see the

:08:19. > :08:24.value of having an assistant referee. A huge call from the

:08:25. > :08:29.officials and spot on. It was the right one. Watch this from the

:08:30. > :08:32.Dundee perspective. Frazer Wright is in five yards of space, nobody

:08:33. > :08:38.marking. From the perspective of the officials, a great call. That is so

:08:39. > :08:45.difficult to tell and asked in the studio, we thought it was over the

:08:46. > :08:55.line. But it clearly had his hand and that is a huge call credit to

:08:56. > :09:00.him you see the officials behind the goals, and he stepped up and got it

:09:01. > :09:04.spot on. The referee on the assistant on the far side was to

:09:05. > :09:09.give the goal. The referee gave it, and it was Alan Muir behind the

:09:10. > :09:12.goal, so spot on them. Set pieces are something the Dundee United to

:09:13. > :09:19.address. All of their free-flowing football, they need to defend, and a

:09:20. > :09:23.struggle. You would think that they have a man to mark before the game,

:09:24. > :09:28.but as you see, Frazer Wright, in five yards, nobody near him. They

:09:29. > :09:29.have to defend better. Sometimes it is the break of the ball, and Dundee

:09:30. > :09:32.United could is the break of the ball, and Dundee

:09:33. > :09:37.when you think of the is the break of the ball, and Dundee

:09:38. > :09:41.They have to deal better with them. They have to deal better with them.

:09:42. > :09:44.Looking at that I wonder if Ryan Dow could have reacted. He was away

:09:45. > :09:53.celebrating, but he could have reacted quicker and got the rebound.

:09:54. > :09:58.I think he was celebrating scoring. That's the fine margins. It could

:09:59. > :10:02.hit the bar and go out and then it lands on the goalkeeper. Armstrong

:10:03. > :10:06.is going in to knock it in the back of the net but it lands on the

:10:07. > :10:10.keeper. On both occasions you think it will hit the keeper and going, so

:10:11. > :10:14.there is an element of luck. We heard the guys talking after the

:10:15. > :10:19.game in the interviews and they said you knew -- do need some luck to win

:10:20. > :10:23.this. When you put in the amount of effort St Johnstone put in, you

:10:24. > :10:26.create your own luck. Maybe the quality of the game was underlined

:10:27. > :10:29.by this moment in the second half when we could have had the goal at

:10:30. > :10:33.either end. The game went from one end to the other and we had

:10:34. > :10:40.Wotherspoon threatening at one end, then Robertson. What a run from

:10:41. > :10:46.Wotherspoon. He commits, tries to get into the box. He does not almost

:10:47. > :10:50.know where he's going. If you're going to criticise the shop, it

:10:51. > :10:57.should have been low and across but then go United, at the other end.

:10:58. > :11:00.You look at the run that MacLean made to take Robertson's eye of the

:11:01. > :11:05.ball. But there was a counterattack from St Johnstone and they have six

:11:06. > :11:09.players around the box and then Dundee United have gone of the park

:11:10. > :11:15.and counted, and what a save from Robertson. That little snippet

:11:16. > :11:20.epitomise what happened through the game. One end, over to the next,

:11:21. > :11:24.countering each other and a great game to watch. There are far too

:11:25. > :11:27.many games where you see the team set their stalls out they will not

:11:28. > :11:32.be broken down. But today, it was you have an attack, we have attack,

:11:33. > :11:35.and a good spectacle. Jackie McNamara was right about fine

:11:36. > :11:39.margins deciding games, but I don't think many of us would suggest that

:11:40. > :11:44.St Johnstone did not deserve it today. Not at all. The team ethic

:11:45. > :11:50.was right for St Johnstone. They went in believing, they won the

:11:51. > :11:54.personal battles and it was crucial. For me, Dundee United could

:11:55. > :11:58.switch off at times, allowing set place -- pieces and free players in

:11:59. > :12:02.the box. We talked about setting the tone before the match and they did

:12:03. > :12:07.it before the kick-off. There were battles all over the park, they got

:12:08. > :12:13.bossed by the St Johnstone place. Dave Mackay was exceptional.

:12:14. > :12:16.Mackay-Steven has given him some problems before, but not today. I

:12:17. > :12:22.expected more from Armstrong. Even Ryan Gauld, he could not get

:12:23. > :12:26.involved. Ciftci looked a frustrated loan striker at times. Everything

:12:27. > :12:30.that St Johnstone have put into their plan worked to perfection. You

:12:31. > :12:35.have to give credit to St Johnstone for that. It's not a fluke that they

:12:36. > :12:39.turned up and Dundee United's players didn't play well. They were

:12:40. > :12:42.the architects of that. They deliberately closed down the space

:12:43. > :12:47.between midfield and defence. No gaps between the units and they were

:12:48. > :12:50.all connected. The end result, when you do that, that has been worked on

:12:51. > :12:55.and you get a good result and they've lifted the trophy because of

:12:56. > :13:02.it. Champagne moment in the dressing for St Johnstone. Well, these are

:13:03. > :13:10.traditional pictures may be for winning teams in the big events, but

:13:11. > :13:15.not for St Johnstone. A special day and this is a special moment. A good

:13:16. > :13:20.champagne soaking for everyone. If you want to relive what happened

:13:21. > :13:25.today at Celtic Park, and if you are St Johnstone fan of you will be up

:13:26. > :13:28.to see them often enough, and if you are Dundee United than you might

:13:29. > :13:31.want to avoid 10:35pm as the celebrations continue for St

:13:32. > :13:38.Johnstone in their first-ever Scottish cup final, and they have

:13:39. > :13:40.won their first major trophy. They poured their heart and soul into

:13:41. > :13:43.this and have rewritten the record books. Goodbye for now.
