:00:40. > :00:44.Hello. We have reached round three of the 2013 season, the World Club
:00:44. > :00:52.Challenge is just around the corner, but first, a feisty round of Super
:00:52. > :01:02.League fixtures to bring you. We are joined by Eorl Crabtree and Ian
:01:02. > :01:08.Millward. Will Warrington end Catalans
:01:08. > :01:15.Dragons' perfect start? It is Bradford against Castleford
:01:15. > :01:25.in a Saturday night special. And we catch up with Rangi Chase,
:01:25. > :01:25.
:01:25. > :01:31.We'll get started with the action from Warrington, where Catalans
:01:31. > :01:35.Dragons were the Friday night foes. They brought a 100% record over
:01:35. > :01:45.from France, hoping to write another chapter in their short but
:01:45. > :01:48.
:01:48. > :01:57.Another chapter opens, the great adventure opens again. They began
:01:57. > :02:07.Super League life with victory over Wigan. The start of seven dramatic
:02:07. > :02:24.
:02:24. > :02:34.Catalans Dragons try everything! There is still an opportunity! My
:02:34. > :02:37.
:02:37. > :02:43.tested. Catalans Dragons have two victories under their belts so far
:02:43. > :02:53.this season. It's the first time they have come up against a giant.
:02:53. > :03:14.
:03:14. > :03:18.appreciates an excellent finish from the Australian. He was on
:03:18. > :03:28.target against Wigan last week, and he starts tonight with another
:03:28. > :03:28.
:03:28. > :04:22.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 53 seconds
:04:22. > :04:28.tackle. Leon Pryce seemed to walk foot is in touch. The referee has
:04:28. > :04:38.given head and feet to Warrington at the scrum. He has lost
:04:38. > :04:45.
:04:45. > :04:54.possession. It is an extraordinary much controversy. How were
:04:54. > :05:04.Warrington given that? It is all about a potential obstruction in
:05:04. > :05:12.
:05:12. > :05:20.is confirmed. Perhaps an explanation. Did Damien Blanch get
:05:20. > :05:29.a hand to that? Even that is not cut and dried. Does the ball change
:05:29. > :05:39.flight? It does not seem so. Thirty minutes played. Warrington probably
:05:39. > :05:59.
:05:59. > :06:09.it will be a third Warrington try. Two in two minutes, and Warrington
:06:09. > :06:11.
:06:11. > :06:21.are firmly in charge. Richie Myler in very good support. Three tries
:06:21. > :06:43.
:06:43. > :06:48.Catalans Dragons are penalised, holding on for too long. It is a
:06:48. > :06:58.yellow card for Brent Webb. The second effort from the Catalans
:06:58. > :07:20.
:07:20. > :07:26.in the sin-bin. It is a push that though Chris Riley had him covered,
:07:26. > :07:36.but Damien Blanch, with terrific power and total determination. He
:07:36. > :07:59.
:07:59. > :08:04.given them head and feed at the scrum. He had all the time in the
:08:04. > :08:14.world. Two tries for Damien Blanch. His side are right back in
:08:14. > :08:35.
:08:35. > :08:44.give up, and everybody else might have done. He might have got a try
:08:44. > :08:52.back. The offside/onside looks to be OK. Did he touch the ball down
:08:52. > :09:02.before it hit the whitewash? Did he have control? He has got a hold of
:09:02. > :09:37.
:09:37. > :09:45.it. He has got it down. It is a try Westwood and Brent Webb. The
:09:45. > :09:53.punches are raining in. The referee stands and watches. The bodies are
:09:53. > :09:59.being dragged off, the touch judges come on. Brent Webb and Ben
:09:59. > :10:06.Westwood seem to be having words. A slap on the face from one, a punch
:10:06. > :10:12.from the other. Ben Westwood bundled it forward. Manhandled to
:10:12. > :10:17.the ground. Not too much on to ward off. The yellow card has been shown
:10:17. > :10:21.for Brent Webb. The second time in the game that he will spend time in
:10:21. > :10:31.the sin-bin. Warrington, likewise, down to 12, Ben Westwood also in
:10:31. > :10:38.
:10:38. > :10:48.running out. Catalans Dragons looking to go down with a fight, at
:10:48. > :11:08.
:11:08. > :11:12.running out, perhaps too little, They say a sign of a good side is
:11:12. > :11:16.winning ugly, and Warrington did that. They are expected to be title
:11:16. > :11:20.favourites. They did not purchase any players. They have got more
:11:20. > :11:23.experienced players than any other, but they complement each other so
:11:23. > :11:33.well, their ability to absorb pressure and be clinical with the
:11:33. > :11:35.
:11:35. > :11:41.ball. They are the cutting edge. They did not start the season with
:11:41. > :11:45.friendlies. They have handled it well. We saw another bit of
:11:45. > :11:55.handbags in that one. We saw something similar in the Widnes
:11:55. > :11:57.
:11:57. > :12:07.against St Helens game. Yes, it was a bit more than handbags, I reckon.
:12:07. > :12:16.
:12:16. > :12:21.It is good to see as a player. Brent Webb can be very niggly. You
:12:21. > :12:25.do not want to see it every week, but you have got to stamp it out.
:12:25. > :12:29.This is where the referees have got to come into it. A bit of
:12:29. > :12:35.frustration in the game when players are getting away with that
:12:35. > :12:45.stuff. The old magician, Lee Briers, not involved, but Richie Myler took
:12:45. > :12:49.
:12:49. > :12:55.his chance. What they would have acknowledged is the influence of
:12:55. > :13:00.Brett Hodgson, their experienced full-back. He has a major hand in
:13:00. > :13:06.the tries, his decision making is very good, and I am sure he has a
:13:06. > :13:16.big influence. Brett Hodgson will be 35, like Lee Briers, so we
:13:16. > :13:20.should see the other players stand up. It is about time. There will be
:13:20. > :13:30.more emphasis in the coming years. With Brett Hodgson and Lee Briers,
:13:30. > :13:31.
:13:31. > :13:36.they are two of the best, especially with Paul in hand. --
:13:36. > :13:40.ball in hand. More shortly. That defeat for Catalans Dragons left
:13:40. > :13:49.Huddersfield as the only 100% side left. They put their perfect record
:13:49. > :13:59.on the line with Wigan coming to town. No Sam Tomkins. It turned
:13:59. > :14:02.
:14:02. > :14:12.into another big afternoon for were quickest out of the traps. Two
:14:12. > :14:19.
:14:19. > :14:29.for it on Scott Grix. Slide in for the try. But the Giants quickly
:14:29. > :14:33.
:14:33. > :14:39.found their feet. It is Giants 4 Wigan 10. A try for the Giants.
:14:39. > :14:43.Right underneath. Having converted both tries, the Giants had their
:14:43. > :14:46.noses in front and had a chance to extend their lead further, Jason
:14:46. > :14:56.Chan Faurlin subject to a high tackle. Danny Brough securing
:14:56. > :14:58.
:14:58. > :15:01.Tomkins, who pulled out before kick-off with a shoulder injury.
:15:01. > :15:05.Despite continuous pressure from last year's league leaders, it was
:15:05. > :15:09.Huddersfield with the chance to move six points clear. This time
:15:10. > :15:19.the kick was 40 metres out. No mistake from Brough, but there was
:15:20. > :15:44.
:15:44. > :15:54.still time for one final try. Maghull Moram is chasing down. He
:15:54. > :15:58.scores the try that sealed the Another big win for your boys. You
:15:58. > :16:02.normally do start the season well, but do you sense this year feels a
:16:02. > :16:07.little bit different already? hope so. The quality of the play
:16:07. > :16:11.we've got at the club this period to the years that have gone by. I
:16:11. > :16:14.don't mean to be disrespectful to the players that were there before,
:16:14. > :16:17.but there's something a bit different this year. We have a
:16:17. > :16:21.better feeling, quality and strength throughout the whole squad.
:16:21. > :16:24.Hopefully we can take it a little bit further than just halfway
:16:24. > :16:27.through the season. Eorl is obviously involved in looking in
:16:27. > :16:29.from the outside. Can you see a difference? Everyone brings
:16:29. > :16:33.different philosophies to their coaching. Paul's philosophy is
:16:33. > :16:43.being more direct. He has bought some people with size and his front
:16:43. > :16:47.
:16:47. > :16:50.row. They've always had good halves. If you go through... Going forward,
:16:50. > :16:55.it complements them really well. Brough can take on the front
:16:55. > :17:00.forward and really dominate. There is a difference, but that's the
:17:00. > :17:05.beauty of sport. Obviously it suits Paul, too, because he's a guy who
:17:05. > :17:12.likes to get the ball in the middle and bring defenders in. -- Eorl.
:17:12. > :17:16.word from you. Shaun Lunt said less is more, and you are having more
:17:16. > :17:20.rest between games this year and feel more energised. Is that true?
:17:20. > :17:25.Yes, for me, it's a lot better having players around who can do
:17:25. > :17:28.their job just as well or if not better at times. It's a bit of a
:17:29. > :17:38.relief. Instead of playing 80 minutes, it's only playing half the
:17:38. > :17:42.game. It takes less toll on my body throughout the year. Let's see if
:17:42. > :17:47.the Giants can carry it on. The last time St Helens were in action
:17:47. > :17:52.at Langtree Park, they left the field to a chorus of boos. That was
:17:52. > :18:02.after an opening-night defeat to Huddersfield. They had a draw
:18:02. > :18:07.against Hull on Friday. Ian, this was some result, some game. It was.
:18:07. > :18:10.New coach Nathan Brown's first season. They've got to take into
:18:10. > :18:20.account he's playing a different style. It's taking a while for them
:18:20. > :18:26.to understand him. That try, that is special. Typical Saints play,
:18:26. > :18:31.well-orchestrated play on the left. They put three tries on in about 15
:18:31. > :18:41.minutes, Saints. Turner going over pretty easily on the inside
:18:41. > :18:41.
:18:41. > :18:45.shoulder of the defender. I saw you playing there in pre-season. In
:18:45. > :18:49.fact, you didn't play but your team-mates were there. It was very
:18:49. > :18:56.one-sided in St Helens' way, but you turned them over with relative
:18:56. > :19:01.ease. Yes. Here are two really good-quality teams that are going
:19:01. > :19:07.to be here at the end of the season. I think Saints are just finding
:19:07. > :19:11.their feet a bit. They look good in patches. Unfortunately, they
:19:11. > :19:18.couldn't keep up for the whole game. This was the kick that could have
:19:18. > :19:25.won it. That went badly wrong. he did have a couple of shots later
:19:25. > :19:29.on to square it up. I think Nathan was pretty happy with the draw.
:19:29. > :19:36.It's a tough road trip. He would have thought, "Well, I've got to
:19:36. > :19:42.improve my team". Holdsworth is there. They've got a new full-back.
:19:42. > :19:49.Still some teams starting to get used to each other. Honours even at
:19:49. > :19:53.Langtree Park. We've had plenty of talking points
:19:53. > :19:58.so far and we are not even halfway through the highlights from round
:19:58. > :20:05.three. Will the Tigers be terrific, or will it be the Bowles night at
:20:05. > :20:10.Bradford? -- Bulls'. We are on the case with Rangi Chase, Castleford's
:20:10. > :20:18.top man, on Super League life. And try these for size. The best and
:20:18. > :20:23.the rest of the round three Congratulations to Hull Kingston
:20:23. > :20:28.Rovers, who secured their first win of the season on Sunday. It was
:20:28. > :20:38.their first Super League success since the end of delight. They were
:20:38. > :20:38.
:20:38. > :20:42.Yes, they seemed to find it really easy. It wasn't that they were
:20:42. > :20:52.creating many overlaps or gaps, it was just a case of one-on-one
:20:52. > :20:59.
:20:59. > :21:05.misses and mistakes. 34-0 up at half-time. Last season they were
:21:05. > :21:15.very good at home. Their defence wasn't consistent. They are
:21:15. > :21:20.
:21:20. > :21:30.probably asking those questions themselves. That wasn't a great
:21:30. > :21:34.
:21:34. > :21:37.moment there. Both blokes have got him tackled. But you are not
:21:37. > :21:42.getting your technique right. They are pushing through easy at the
:21:42. > :21:46.moment. When you go to Hull KR and you are down like that, it is
:21:46. > :21:49.damage control. You are trying but you are all over the shop.
:21:49. > :21:59.Defensively, that happened a few times last year to Widnes, they
:21:59. > :22:14.
:22:14. > :22:18.lost consistency. Hock with the try. Hull KR at Salford next week. With
:22:18. > :22:22.all due respect to Salford, they will see that as an opportunity to
:22:22. > :22:29.move up the table. I would have liked to have thought so. I've
:22:29. > :22:34.watched a couple of games, they were pretty poor. But they have
:22:34. > :22:39.still a lot to work on, because you can never take these teams lightly.
:22:39. > :22:45.Sandercock needed this. Yes, I watched the game with Wakefield
:22:45. > :22:50.live, there wasn't a lot in it. They just weren't consistent, but
:22:50. > :22:55.they weren't far off the mark. They were hard to beat at home.
:22:55. > :23:01.Now to the story of Rangi Chase. The New Zealand-born England
:23:01. > :23:07.international was the man of the season. He struggled to back that
:23:07. > :23:17.up at a far from golden 2012. He looks to regain his status as one
:23:17. > :23:23.
:23:23. > :23:33.2011 was a good year for myself. Picking up Man of Steel was great,
:23:33. > :23:33.
:23:33. > :23:38.I didn't think I was going to do it. I was very humbled. It was a big
:23:38. > :23:42.moment for me, it is something I will remember for the rest of my
:23:42. > :23:47.life. It's something I want to do again. We play a good attacking
:23:47. > :23:51.style. I get to touch the ball a lot, probably three or four times a
:23:51. > :23:56.set. I've gradually improved as a player, instead of just playing on
:23:56. > :24:01.instincts all the time. I was just so confident. The fans and my team-
:24:01. > :24:04.mates had a lot to do with that. When the crowd was behind me it was
:24:04. > :24:14.an awesome feeling. I've never experienced that before. They love
:24:14. > :24:17.
:24:17. > :24:23.Last season, as a team that was pretty bad. For me as an individual,
:24:23. > :24:28.it wasn't too good as well. I found it hard to adapt to the structures.
:24:28. > :24:33.I wasn't 100% into it. I wasn't happy. It was seen in my
:24:33. > :24:37.performances. Sometimes I'd just give up. I couldn't and didn't want
:24:37. > :24:41.to be there sometimes. Frustrated at myself and team-mates. I
:24:41. > :24:47.probably spat the dummy when I should have been a man and just got
:24:47. > :24:51.on with it. Off the field I wasn't doing the right things. I picked up
:24:51. > :24:58.a few injuries, got suspended a couple of times. It wasn't good at
:24:58. > :25:02.the time. A lot of stuff going around that unsettled me. But
:25:02. > :25:08.looking back it's good because the things I was going through, I found
:25:08. > :25:12.it hard to cope. Now I know what I need to fix. It was a bit of a
:25:12. > :25:16.wake-up call. I could lose what I've dreamed of doing just like
:25:16. > :25:21.that. I can't be doing the things I was doing off the field and stuff
:25:21. > :25:25.like that. If I keep doing it I will have nothing. It's made me
:25:25. > :25:30.grateful for where I am today. I had my first baby boy last year. He
:25:30. > :25:35.has settled me down. It has made it sink in how lucky I was and how
:25:35. > :25:45.lucky I am. I've got a family, got a wife. It's made me realise what
:25:45. > :25:49.
:25:49. > :25:53.We are not really related, we are like brothers, really. His mum and
:25:53. > :25:58.dad call me son. They took me in when my grandparents passed away.
:25:58. > :26:01.They looked after me. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them. And
:26:02. > :26:05.obviously for Weller as well. We are living here, living the dream
:26:05. > :26:09.together, playing profession all together. It means a lot to us.
:26:09. > :26:19.We've both got young families. It's going to be something we look back
:26:19. > :26:24.
:26:24. > :26:31.on when we get a bit older and have From us this year, you can expect a
:26:31. > :26:35.lot of improvement. A better team performance. We are all happy with
:26:35. > :26:40.the team, the way we are going. There's a positive feeling around
:26:40. > :26:44.the club and the town. We've bought well. Everyone has a role to do. It
:26:44. > :26:48.is not just relying on me all the time. With the way we play, there's
:26:48. > :26:53.opportunities everywhere if you do it right. For me, it's more about
:26:53. > :26:57.what I do off the field. Doing the little things, because I know if I
:26:57. > :27:03.do those things I will play well. I've got to be more of a leader,
:27:03. > :27:13.put more quality into my game. I've got to cut the errors out.
:27:13. > :27:14.
:27:14. > :27:18.Hopefully I can show the form I had There's always speculation. I think
:27:18. > :27:25.the guys will speculate, but they need a new job because they always
:27:25. > :27:30.get it wrong. Ninety per cent of the rumours were made up. It gets
:27:30. > :27:35.the fans unsettled, and I need them to be on our side. It sort of made
:27:35. > :27:45.it look like I wanted to leave when I didn't. I'm 100% settled here. My
:27:45. > :27:53.
:27:53. > :28:00.Ian, you watched that with great interest. What was your reading of
:28:00. > :28:04.what you heard? Words can be pretty cheap. He's backed those words up
:28:04. > :28:10.with action. His pre-season has been outstanding, on and off the
:28:10. > :28:15.field. He's been the person that I really respected as a player. He's
:28:15. > :28:20.been a leader. Last week against Leeds, the two tries we scored, he
:28:20. > :28:23.had a major hand in it. But he's also had a major hand in our team
:28:23. > :28:28.meetings and the way that a professional should go about his
:28:28. > :28:32.business. I can only applaud him for the way he has sat back and
:28:32. > :28:40.looked at himself. Here is the best and worst of Rangi Chase from that
:28:40. > :28:45.game. I love this. The no-look pass. It's NBA basketball. Brilliant.
:28:45. > :28:54.He's so talented as a player, we expect it all the time now. What
:28:54. > :28:57.happened here? If Hardaker is beaten to it and he's our last line,
:28:57. > :29:07.we took some stuff in judiciary which doesn't fully explain his
:29:07. > :29:08.
:29:08. > :29:12.situation. Let's not premeditate it. The Leeds players reacted angrily.
:29:12. > :29:19.Not at the time, in the press conference afterwards, when they'd
:29:19. > :29:23.lost the game. I would like to say this. Rangi Chase, any player, if
:29:23. > :29:28.you make contact with the head of someone, whether it is careless or
:29:28. > :29:33.reckless, the rules are in place that it is a penalty. But you've
:29:33. > :29:38.got to be judged a bit on that. If someone could sit down and we could
:29:38. > :29:45.show them all the stuff we came up with... But we accept it and get on
:29:45. > :29:50.with it. On Rangi Chase, he is so talented. What you want him to do,
:29:50. > :29:54.you want him to be the icing on the cake for us. Probably last year he
:29:54. > :29:58.was doing everything, now we are getting him to be the icing. It's
:29:58. > :30:04.what he's good at. No Rangi Chase for the Tigers' trip to Bradford on
:30:04. > :30:14.Saturday. Gareth O'Brien left the game injured as well. It was a
:30:14. > :30:35.
:30:35. > :30:39.Banstead. -- bounced it. Steve Ganson wants the video replay. That
:30:39. > :30:49.suggests he bounced the ball, no try, but not a bad effort by Jarrod
