:00:35. > :00:37.Hello, we are going round the world and round the corner this week,
:00:38. > :00:42.as we kick off an eventful month in rugby league.
:00:43. > :01:19.A busy few weeks ahead, but Luke Robinson and John Kear
:01:20. > :01:23.have made time for a look at Super League and beyond.
:01:24. > :01:25.The World Cup is now less than six months away,
:01:26. > :01:27.and England's preparations continued at the weekend
:01:28. > :01:30.with a trip to Sydney, where they faced Samoa.
:01:31. > :01:32.The best moments from that match first,
:01:33. > :01:50.Still an opportunity, Graham back towards the bus. They probably have
:01:51. > :01:56.done with more and they get more. Floating it over the top to Ryan
:01:57. > :02:02.Hall, who does not need much instruction to find his way to the
:02:03. > :02:11.try-line. That is an easy one. Especially second of his test
:02:12. > :02:20.career. -- his 32nd. Now Hodgson. Ratchford! This is a big moment for
:02:21. > :02:25.Stefan Ratchford. Scores are trying with the England jumper, proudly
:02:26. > :02:35.worn. Stefan Ratchford goes over. Wigan born, over 200 top grade games
:02:36. > :02:45.and here is a try for England. It is a slow play. They are trying the
:02:46. > :02:55.power play. I think he has scored. I think Leilua has scored here. Now
:02:56. > :03:06.O'Loughlin off-loading, to Hodgson, Gloucester Brown. What a pass! --
:03:07. > :03:17.across to Brown. Cover for Samoa but Hodgson has scored. The referee, I
:03:18. > :03:23.think, took nothing from the play. England had their third try. They
:03:24. > :03:27.looked anxious, they have lost shape. They are all trying their
:03:28. > :03:44.hearts out. McGuire. He scores! The ball comes for Brownite. Kept
:03:45. > :03:51.going for Whitehead. Scrambling defence.
:03:52. > :04:00.England clearing the wreckage. Foreword to James Graham. They are
:04:01. > :04:05.going to say it is a try for James Graham. They have thrown it to
:04:06. > :04:12.Graham, to basically all over the try-line. Looking a little
:04:13. > :04:19.dispirited, the Samoans, headstone. -- heads down. Brown will kick. That
:04:20. > :04:24.has found McGillvary! He does know how to score I just like the first
:04:25. > :04:28.try of the night went to the left-wing, the last drive goes to
:04:29. > :04:32.the right wing. And McGillvary scorers and now, the icing is
:04:33. > :04:36.definitely on the cake. John, England expected a tough
:04:37. > :04:38.test, and they got it. How much confidence will
:04:39. > :04:40.they take from that match? That was a really good Samoan team,
:04:41. > :04:44.packed full of NRL stars. But I thought England
:04:45. > :04:46.handled all the adversity of the logistics of the travel,
:04:47. > :04:49.meeting up as a group, And to come away with a 30-10 win,
:04:50. > :04:55.I'm sure they will all be very satisfied and feel as if they have
:04:56. > :04:58.taken a very important step And how much do you think they
:04:59. > :05:03.needed that after the Four Nations Yeah, I think, obviously
:05:04. > :05:06.confidence wasn't great after the Four Nations,
:05:07. > :05:08.but I'm with John, you know, to go all that way and deal
:05:09. > :05:11.with things like the travel and going down there
:05:12. > :05:13.just for one week only, it is a difficult task in itself,
:05:14. > :05:16.and going against a really But for me, all the victory,
:05:17. > :05:20.the manner in which we performed, and we played, it wasn't
:05:21. > :05:23.up your jumper stuff, you know, of a Super League brand,
:05:24. > :05:27.we played a little bit of second phase rugby,
:05:28. > :05:30.you know, a little bit of offload and pop up as middlemen,
:05:31. > :05:34.I just thought we played a really And is that something that's changed
:05:35. > :05:38.from the Four Nations? Do you think Wayne Bennett has
:05:39. > :05:40.taken a look and thought, I need to let these players do
:05:41. > :05:43.what they do week in, That may well be the case,
:05:44. > :05:47.but if you don't let James Graham do that,
:05:48. > :05:49.you take things away from him, so what you need to do is just play
:05:50. > :05:53.to play his strengths. And I think it is pretty obvious
:05:54. > :05:56.that they did that, and also, people like Kevin Brown
:05:57. > :05:57.and Stefan Ratchford, who were not in the original squad
:05:58. > :06:00.travelling over there, they have really put their hand up,
:06:01. > :06:03.and I'm certain they have given Wayne Bennett a problem or two
:06:04. > :06:05.with his selections. And does it also show how important
:06:06. > :06:08.Sean O'Loughlin could be? He was missing for the Four Nations,
:06:09. > :06:11.he is such a key player, isn't he? I think, to the layman,
:06:12. > :06:18.a lot of times, they don't see What he does for the
:06:19. > :06:21.players around him. It's not the things he does
:06:22. > :06:24.with the ball, he's always been able He's sort of faced ball
:06:25. > :06:28.to the winger, when he created that first try, it's the things
:06:29. > :06:30.he does off... The things he does off
:06:31. > :06:33.the field and on the field, it's the little things,
:06:34. > :06:35.the winning the ruck, the talk, the leadership, I think,
:06:36. > :06:38.for us to be competitive at the end of the year, we need
:06:39. > :06:41.Sean O'Loughlin. You talked about Ratchford
:06:42. > :06:43.in particular, who was obviously called up as a halfback,
:06:44. > :06:45.because we lost Widdop, ends up at fullback,
:06:46. > :06:47.might he have played himself into that World Cup
:06:48. > :06:49.squad as the fullback? And obviously, they might well have
:06:50. > :06:53.solved, in a strange way, the problem position in the centres,
:06:54. > :06:56.with Zak Hardaker All these different conundrums,
:06:57. > :07:00.the problems, they have been well solved by the coaching staff
:07:01. > :07:04.and well solved by the players So I think it is a pretty
:07:05. > :07:09.exciting time for England, and should they remain mainly injury
:07:10. > :07:12.free for the rest of the season, to take the selected squad
:07:13. > :07:15.down there, and certain Do you think the players,
:07:16. > :07:19.despite being fatigued and all the rest of it,
:07:20. > :07:22.we'll come back better In my time, in 2010, I was carrying
:07:23. > :07:27.a shoulder injury myself. But Nathan Brown encouraged me
:07:28. > :07:32.to go with England. He said, the confidence you come
:07:33. > :07:34.back with, the experience, it makes you a better player,
:07:35. > :07:38.and fingers crossed those players, especially Jermaine McGillvary,
:07:39. > :07:40.will come back a better And don't forget, you can follow
:07:41. > :07:47.the World Cup right here on the BBC. Get your diary out now,
:07:48. > :07:50.because we've got live coverage It starts with the match
:07:51. > :07:53.against Australia Well, back home in Super League,
:07:54. > :07:59.Warrington faced St Helens. Ironically, this has been
:08:00. > :08:01.a good fixture for Saints, who have won 45 of the previous 59
:08:02. > :08:05.Super League meetings. Well, Dave Woods has seen most of
:08:06. > :08:19.those and was there again on Friday. It is a lovely sunny evening at the
:08:20. > :08:27.HJ Stadium. But who will have the smiles at full-time? It is causing
:08:28. > :08:30.problems will stop Kyle Amor gets it back, what a start for St Helens.
:08:31. > :08:35.Getting the ball straightaway and the chance to put pressure on
:08:36. > :08:42.Russell. He has knocked it down. Regan Grace hazard. The start of the
:08:43. > :08:50.tackle count again. Real pressure on Warrington in these opening stages.
:08:51. > :08:55.Thompson. Here is Tommy Lee. 12 away. Kyle Amor just to his wife,
:08:56. > :09:02.wider still to Smith and then Fages. Here comes Makinson, gets the ball
:09:03. > :09:06.away, Adam Smith in the corner. 31 seconds played, and St Helens have
:09:07. > :09:12.their opening try. What a start for them! John McGinn missing tonight
:09:13. > :09:17.because of a hamstring injury he picked up in the warm up, we are
:09:18. > :09:28.told. Dutchman John Wilkin. It is Kyle Amor. -- John Wilkin. A penalty
:09:29. > :09:31.for St Helens here. Gidley clearly stepping to the left-hand side
:09:32. > :09:36.before he showed survey charts and part of the sticks for Tommy
:09:37. > :09:44.Makinson to add another two. And St Helens lead by 8-0, solid stuff.
:09:45. > :09:51.Roby collect, here is Matty Smith. A little step, back on the inside by
:09:52. > :09:56.Makinson. Swarmed all over, Mike Cooper making sure the tackle is
:09:57. > :10:01.completed. Fages. Clawing at the defender, getting the pass away.
:10:02. > :10:12.Morgan with a step back inside. And Ryan Morgan in another St Helens
:10:13. > :10:18.try. They are looking impressive. Excellent position, but what can
:10:19. > :10:25.they make of it? Crosby pushed back. Good leg drive from him. Really
:10:26. > :10:32.testing that St Helens line. Smith at dummy half. I double punt and
:10:33. > :10:35.over goes Benjamin Jullien. Warrington finally on the board. The
:10:36. > :10:49.Frenchman strikes. Smith glances to his left as he
:10:50. > :10:55.tries to get his side moving again. St Helens' defence is being tested.
:10:56. > :11:02.Here come the big fellas. Mike Cooper with an arcing run. It is his
:11:03. > :11:07.first try back as a Warrington player. And Warrington right back in
:11:08. > :11:22.the contest now, what a response. Scully and just get on with things.
:11:23. > :11:28.Hammered in again. This time Morgan knows. St Helens eking out some
:11:29. > :11:34.advantage. That has gone down from Fages. It is picked up by Harvey
:11:35. > :11:40.Livett. Off he goes! And Warrington will have the lead for the first
:11:41. > :11:55.time tonight. Having trailed at one stage by 14-0.
:11:56. > :12:05.Back inside for the push of Benny Westwood. Morgan Smith going to the
:12:06. > :12:10.right-hand side. Harvey Livett with a short pass. Rhys Evans comes
:12:11. > :12:14.crashing onto it. They have not only turned it around, they are beginning
:12:15. > :12:18.to look very good now, granted. They have been building a big lead. --
:12:19. > :12:25.very good now, Warrington. Kyle Amor. Pushing him hard. Missing
:12:26. > :12:33.Walmsley tonight, St Helens, and Percival. The two big misses. But
:12:34. > :12:39.looking to put it wide here. That has gone to ground from Makinson.
:12:40. > :12:46.Another St Helens mistake. And Lineham will dive underneath the
:12:47. > :12:55.sticks. Celebrations all round. But they are on hold temporarily. He
:12:56. > :12:59.wants to look again. He has not decided whether he thinks it is a
:13:00. > :13:03.try or not. It is going to be up to the video referee. I do not think
:13:04. > :13:10.there was a hand there. Lineham takes advantage. He prospers,
:13:11. > :13:17.Warrington prosper, and other try, the leader gets bigger. -- the lead.
:13:18. > :13:27.Gidley dashing in, but he is ushered away because the winger what's ago.
:13:28. > :13:34.A very good pass away to Rhys Evans. Terrific pace down the right-hand
:13:35. > :13:43.side. Evans takes it. Back comes the cover of Roby. They have got numbers
:13:44. > :13:51.on this left-hand side. Sims just needs a pass and gets one. And Ryan
:13:52. > :13:59.Atkins with career try 199. And Warrington are flying now.
:14:00. > :14:13.It is Fages. Looking back to where they came from here, quick out of
:14:14. > :14:19.dummy half, it is taken. Over the line by Temay. Peyroux involved
:14:20. > :14:27.again. -- over the line by Taia. Barely a flicker of celebration.
:14:28. > :14:38.McGuire. Sturdy effort again by George King, who is held up, they
:14:39. > :14:42.are waiting on the sidelines to celebrate this victory, just a
:14:43. > :14:50.matter of seconds to go. But not before Ryan Atkins claims tried 200
:14:51. > :14:56.in his career. Warrington up to the 40 mark. What a night of
:14:57. > :15:05.celebration, what a turnaround in a game that seemed to be running away
:15:06. > :15:12.from them. Warrington win again. Look, Warrington 14-0 down, what did
:15:13. > :15:20.they do? They did not start the game particularly well. The introduction
:15:21. > :15:33.of Crosby, I think Warrington's bench lifted them.
:15:34. > :15:36.You know, it could have been said that Saint Helens made errors
:15:37. > :15:39.but I think they were forced errors, forced by the willingness
:15:40. > :15:42.of the Warrington side to get up in their face and pressure them.
:15:43. > :15:45.I just think the cornerstone for their victory this week I think
:15:46. > :15:47.was the defence and it's something they'll definitely work
:15:48. > :15:52.That the errors that were coming from Saints were not
:15:53. > :15:53.necessarily of their making, so to speak?
:15:54. > :15:57.There were one or two sloppy ones, such as that one, but certainly that
:15:58. > :15:59.try was one through a very aggressive Warrington defence
:16:00. > :16:02.and cutting down the space and time in which they've got
:16:03. > :16:04.to execute their skills, and there's another example again
:16:05. > :16:08.where a defender was on him almost as soon as he got the ball
:16:09. > :16:19.and it wasn't the best pass today throughout,
:16:20. > :16:22.There's two tries, really, defensive wins that have
:16:23. > :16:29.He made a couple of errors in that first half but he came
:16:30. > :16:33.through all of that to really deliver a stirring
:16:34. > :16:35.through all of that to really deliver a starring
:16:36. > :16:38.Yes, I think he showed great character and probably a bit
:16:39. > :16:41.of wisdom beyond his years, really, because it's very
:16:42. > :16:44.easy as a young kid, when you make a mistake to dwell
:16:45. > :16:49.I just liked his composure throughout the games.
:16:50. > :16:51.I just liked his composure throughout the game.
:16:52. > :16:54.His kicking selection out of hand was great and striking the ball
:16:55. > :16:57.I think he only missed one on the night.
:16:58. > :17:01.So, yes, I just think he's a star of the future.
:17:02. > :17:03.I'm not sure where his position is because, you know,
:17:04. > :17:06.speaking to Tony Smith after the game, he's played
:17:07. > :17:08.in multiple positions throughout his young career and he's
:17:09. > :17:12.A turning point for Warrington, this, do you think?
:17:13. > :17:14.I think they've been turning for the last month,
:17:15. > :17:18.They've scraped some victories by hook or by crook.
:17:19. > :17:20.That was a great performance as well as a good victory
:17:21. > :17:22.so you fully expect them now to kick on.
:17:23. > :17:25.I think they played that night how we've been expecting Warrington
:17:26. > :17:30.And for Saint Helens, we now know that Justin Holbrook is their coach.
:17:31. > :17:32.I have to confess, I had to look him up.
:17:33. > :17:34.I didn't know a huge amount about him!
:17:35. > :17:36.They will need to impress him, won't they?
:17:37. > :17:38.They'll need to change things when he comes in.
:17:39. > :17:41.Each player's going to want to impress him,
:17:42. > :17:44.and when a new coach comes in here, you're vying for your spot,
:17:45. > :17:47.you want to show him what you are capable of,
:17:48. > :17:50.and I think from what I can gather as well, he likes to play
:17:51. > :17:54.He's an attacking man, the coach, which Saint Helens
:17:55. > :17:57.The public not only expect to win games and be challenging
:17:58. > :18:00.for trophies, but they expect a certain brand of rugby, so,
:18:01. > :18:03.you know, fingers crossed for the league that he can bring
:18:04. > :18:06.Well, Warrington take on their local rivals Widnes
:18:07. > :18:10.The Vikings warmed up for that with a visit from Hull FC
:18:11. > :18:14.and they got off to a flying start, didn't they, Luke?
:18:15. > :18:22.And I really love the way that the Widnes forwards, you know,
:18:23. > :18:26.a bit of interplay from them to get on an edge here, and they must
:18:27. > :18:28.have seen something in the video during the week.
:18:29. > :18:31.When you do the analysis, you preview the games and they seem
:18:32. > :18:34.to pick out Hull's right edge and Widnes' left, and a lot
:18:35. > :18:37.of success out here, but on this field, as you can see,
:18:38. > :18:42.On this pitch everyone looks a bit quicker.
:18:43. > :18:44.And they were playing with a real energy in this
:18:45. > :18:49.I think Denis Betts will have taken great heart from that.
:18:50. > :18:51.That first 40 minutes and some of the attacking play,
:18:52. > :19:03.And you just feel they're getting players back, they're improving
:19:04. > :19:07.Denis Betts just wanted 80 minutes of performance at some stage.
:19:08. > :19:10.How crucial for Hull to come back with this try right
:19:11. > :19:19.At Widnes they're just used to losing.
:19:20. > :19:23.And for Hull, when you nab these little victories,
:19:24. > :19:26.Again, you gain confidence with these victories,
:19:27. > :19:29.especially when you're down and out and nobody gives you a chance.
:19:30. > :19:31.So that'll do Hull's confidence the world of good.
:19:32. > :19:33.That swing round about half time was absolutely crucial.
:19:34. > :19:36.If they had gone in 22-0 instead of 22-4, then it will have
:19:37. > :19:41.They did score some really, really good tries.
:19:42. > :19:48.Shaw looking dangerous on this fast pitch.
:19:49. > :19:50.But I particularly enjoyed this try that's coming up.
:19:51. > :19:59.He can do anything when he decides to do it and he's decided here.
:20:00. > :20:02.And I tell you, his shadow can't keep up with him!
:20:03. > :20:08.And one worthy of bringing home the bacon and the victory.
:20:09. > :20:11.But for Widnes, they did just fall off, didn't they, energy-wise?
:20:12. > :20:14.How worrying is that, that they can't find that energy
:20:15. > :20:19.Well, like you say, it becomes more a habit,
:20:20. > :20:25.They're in that little bit of a losing habit at the moment.
:20:26. > :20:28.Them close victories just don't seem to be able to seal off
:20:29. > :20:32.I suppose you've just got to go back to the drawing board and show
:20:33. > :20:35.the type of rugby they played in the first 20 minutes and say,
:20:36. > :20:37.if we can replicate this, for a full 80 minutes,
:20:38. > :20:42.And for Hull, though, it's a really good comeback, isn't it?
:20:43. > :20:45.You wouldn't want to have to do it every week but it shows
:20:46. > :20:50.You sense Hull are growing as a team and as a club,
:20:51. > :20:52.and they really are going to be challengers, not only
:20:53. > :20:54.for the Challenge Cup, which they already own,
:20:55. > :20:58.So, Hull are flying high with a number of home-grown players
:20:59. > :21:01.on the field but the supply of talent in the area is now
:21:02. > :21:04.so low that the city's two professional clubs have
:21:05. > :21:08.The City of Hull Academy is now in its second year and we've been
:21:09. > :21:18.You know, the numbers in rugby league are dropping, unfortunately.
:21:19. > :21:20.I don't think there's the quality in Hull to sustain two
:21:21. > :21:26.You know, there isn't the huge quality that people are led
:21:27. > :21:31.So we need to pick the best players to come and play for this academy.
:21:32. > :21:40.First aim was to support the talent pool in the area and help grow that
:21:41. > :21:42.under one agenda and one philosophy through the academy.
:21:43. > :21:46.Increase investment to the academy whilst at the same time helping
:21:47. > :21:49.support both professional clubs and their investment as well,
:21:50. > :21:53.get a better return of investment, so as one academy, we can boast
:21:54. > :21:55.10-12 full-time staff, whereas previously you were looking
:21:56. > :22:05.I think having one academy together means the standard
:22:06. > :22:09.The training becomes more intense and there's a bit more at stake.
:22:10. > :22:16.You know, previously if a player was released by one club they had
:22:17. > :22:19.the opportunity to sort of put themselves in the shop window
:22:20. > :22:22.I think from this, it raises the bar.
:22:23. > :22:25.A little bit of opposition at the start to obviously two
:22:26. > :22:29.From our point of view it's been business first and we've got
:22:30. > :22:36.For lads down here, as long as we're playing
:22:37. > :22:38.in a shirt to represent Hull, I don't think, well,
:22:39. > :22:40.me personally, I'm not bothered which shirt I'm wearing.
:22:41. > :22:44.It would be a dream to come and play Super League and any
:22:45. > :22:50.Our ultimate aim is to get as many players playing for Hull FC
:22:51. > :22:52.and Hull KA in the future, and I think that's
:22:53. > :22:57.Talent transfer is a real key area for us, looking at kids that don't
:22:58. > :23:08.And that have skill sets that might suit, so maybe footballers leaving
:23:09. > :23:12.certain clubs or I was working with a young basketball
:23:13. > :23:14.player last night who, you know, very athletic,
:23:15. > :23:17.and there's things in there that he can help transfer
:23:18. > :23:21.In an ideal world, in ten years' time, I'd like to think both Hull FC
:23:22. > :23:24.and Hull KA will be at the top of Super League with lots
:23:25. > :23:29.And the England team will be filled with players from this area as well.
:23:30. > :23:33.Obviously that's something we would strive to do.
:23:34. > :23:36.We might be the first but I don't think we'll be the last
:23:37. > :23:39.I'm hearing there's a few clubs that are having talks
:23:40. > :23:42.about it and there's definitely interest there.
:23:43. > :23:45.I think others are pushing it really hard as well, so in the main,
:23:46. > :23:52.You're never going to please everybody in any walk of life in any
:23:53. > :23:55.job, so there's always going to be people out there who are opposed.
:23:56. > :23:57.I think the vast majority now are well behind us.
:23:58. > :24:09.I find it quite staggering, really, that Hull are having to merge sides.
:24:10. > :24:12.Whenever you go there with my local amateur team,
:24:13. > :24:17.whether it is the elite, the pro, the adult team
:24:18. > :24:23.or the junior, there's always loads of Hull teams in and around
:24:24. > :24:25.are really good sides, so I find it really
:24:26. > :24:28.staggering that there's not enough to create two teams,
:24:29. > :24:32.but I suppose from their perspective, they thinking
:24:33. > :24:37.that by merging one, they're creating an elite team.
:24:38. > :24:40.Do you think this is the answer or do we go back to the whole
:24:41. > :24:45.I think you've got to look at player pathways all the way through,
:24:46. > :24:48.and I get the idea of making it harder to in there.
:24:49. > :24:53.First of all, you've got to have participation.
:24:54. > :24:58.We aren't a big enough game to start shoving people out at early ages.
:24:59. > :25:04.And I believe as well, it's not just academy level,
:25:05. > :25:06.I believe that there should be reserve teams at every
:25:07. > :25:10.And that would create pathways for late developers to come through.
:25:11. > :25:13.We've got a lad at Wakefield, James Batchelor, and if they had
:25:14. > :25:17.Because he came through the category C academy, which was college
:25:18. > :25:20.playing on a Wednesday afternoon, and there must be pathways
:25:21. > :25:22.for a whole range of players to come through.
:25:23. > :25:24.And you come from different directions.
:25:25. > :25:26.Some come through the traditional way,
:25:27. > :25:35.We've got to have you running the game one day, haven't we, John?
:25:36. > :25:38.Now, Leeds spent most of last year in the bottom four but the Rhinos
:25:39. > :25:42.have been in the top four for most of this season, and they were
:25:43. > :25:44.looking to maintain that position by winning in Catalan on Saturday.
:25:45. > :25:48.The commentator for this one is Tim Steer.
:25:49. > :25:50.Rhinos on the early attack with Rob Burrow.
:25:51. > :25:59.Ash Handley, who has done really well.
:26:00. > :26:07.Danny McGuire with the high, high kick, and it was
:26:08. > :26:21.They go in front in the South of France.
:26:22. > :26:34.But the referee, Jack Smith, he's wanting to check this one
:26:35. > :26:44.Up to Robert Hicks now to make the decision.
:26:45. > :26:51.Quick feet to get away from the last two defenders.
:26:52. > :27:01.First points of the game confirmed for Catalan.
:27:02. > :27:04.Can the French side go in front here?
:27:05. > :27:25.But again, it's going upstairs to the video referee.
:27:26. > :27:27.Jack Smith does think it's a try but once again,
:27:28. > :27:37.I think this time on Stevie Ward there.
:27:38. > :27:48.Robert Hicks says try and Catalan go in front.
:27:49. > :27:53.So Catalan really ramping it up here with the lead,
:27:54. > :27:56.trying to go further in front, and they have done!
:27:57. > :28:04.Again, another lovely flat pass to send them
:28:05. > :28:11.So, a restart ten metres out for Leeds.
:28:12. > :28:19.A bit of juggling there from Stevie Ward, and he has got his way over!
:28:20. > :28:23.Right at the death, he stumbles over...
:28:24. > :28:27.The Rhinos have the score to send those fans smiling.
:28:28. > :28:33.He's spotted a gap there and shows quick feet.
:28:34. > :28:47.Now, the Rhinos trying to speed things up in the wok and see
:28:48. > :28:50.Now, the Rhinos trying to speed things up in the ruck and see
:28:51. > :29:00.Showing the speed of a full-back there!
:29:01. > :29:11.There's a little bit of afters between the two teams.
:29:12. > :29:14.And again, they are going quickly from acting half-back
:29:15. > :29:17.The Rhinos have wrapped up just inside Catalan's half.
:29:18. > :29:20.They've got a lot of work to do on this last tackle
:29:21. > :29:22.if they are to get some points from it.
:29:23. > :29:23.Shifting the play over towards their opponent.
:29:24. > :29:30.Hanley has Moon on the inside and he has borrow in support,
:29:31. > :29:32.and Burrow is heading for the corner!
:29:33. > :29:38.Last tackle drive from the Leeds Rhinos to level the scores!
:29:39. > :29:40.Such a tight game between these two teams.
:29:41. > :29:48.He's trying to go over for his second of the game
:29:49. > :29:50.but he's being held back by, what, four, five Leeds defenders
:29:51. > :29:57.They've been holding on too long and it's a penalty.
:29:58. > :30:04.They thought they'd done enough, the Rhinos defence.
:30:05. > :30:15.The kick comes from Toni Gigot. All tied up again.
:30:16. > :30:25.Building. The ball has gone to ground. A fresh threat now from
:30:26. > :30:34.Leeds. Danny McGuire. It's still McGuire! Rolling back the years,
:30:35. > :30:38.Danny McGuire. Looking for celebrations from the Leeds Rhinos
:30:39. > :30:44.players. It has been a fantastic second-half performance from them.
:30:45. > :30:47.Danny McGuire, doing what he does. How important is he to Leeds and how
:30:48. > :30:51.do you think he has developed in the last couple of years? He is
:30:52. > :30:55.fantastic. The amount of times he has done that to me in my career,
:30:56. > :30:59.from under 16 is all the way up to professionals. I think he has
:31:00. > :31:09.developed and evolved in his game. He has been very clever. Just his
:31:10. > :31:12.pure acceleration, speed, to be very controlled, he galvanises the side
:31:13. > :31:16.around the field. He is pivotal to what we'd do well. He organises and
:31:17. > :31:23.kicks the ball well. I think he has been great. -- to what Leeds do
:31:24. > :31:28.well. Talking about the referee after as you said every week we are
:31:29. > :31:35.having conversations about how we do not get 50-50s, tonight we did not
:31:36. > :31:39.even get 6040s. They need to get over it. Rummy, they are playing the
:31:40. > :31:44.victims too often, the Catalans, and it is always somebody else's fall.
:31:45. > :31:47.Forget the referee, look after how well you play, look after the
:31:48. > :31:55.ability they have got. I think that would be my advice. I do think they
:31:56. > :32:00.play the victim is too much. You have to go back 20 years to find
:32:01. > :32:06.the last time that Salford won in Wigan. The red Devils were trying
:32:07. > :32:10.again on Friday. Salford boss Mike Reckitt against
:32:11. > :32:13.Wigan is not good but this is in the red Devils have shown they are
:32:14. > :32:16.capable of mixing it with the big guns and they got off to the best
:32:17. > :32:21.possible start. Scoring after just four minutes. The goal was not
:32:22. > :32:26.added, but Salford were dominating against a weakened side losing 14
:32:27. > :32:30.first-team regulars. Evans found a gap and with this conversion they
:32:31. > :32:35.were 10-0 up after 20 minutes. And after more pressure, this converted
:32:36. > :32:42.try meant they had a 16-0 lead at half-time. Wigan needed to score
:32:43. > :32:46.first in the second half but Dobson's kick saw Evans get his
:32:47. > :32:49.brace and a mountain for Wigan to climb is getting steeper. Less than
:32:50. > :32:59.five Bellars letter Salford were in it again. Dobson and Salford 28-0.
:33:00. > :33:03.Wigan picked up by injuries and again but still did not give up and
:33:04. > :33:07.an unlikely fightback started. Tom Davies finally got their first
:33:08. > :33:10.points 30 minute into the second half. Josh Woods Mr Gill but Wigan
:33:11. > :33:15.were on the scoresheet. The home side continued to rally and Ryan
:33:16. > :33:18.Sutton capitalised by crushing him near the posts. The third try in ten
:33:19. > :33:24.minutes really started to make things interesting. Scott on his
:33:25. > :33:27.first appearance in nine games. The gap was 12 point with eight minutes
:33:28. > :33:32.to go. But Salford were doing all they could to get Wigan back.
:33:33. > :33:36.O'Brien was there for a drop goal. With a late challenge coming in on
:33:37. > :33:42.O'Brien, Salford were awarded a penalty. O'Brien made no mistake
:33:43. > :33:46.with that either to give the Red Devils their first win at Wigan in
:33:47. > :33:54.20 years and only their sixth in 41 Super League meetings.
:33:55. > :33:58.Much will be made of how many players were missing for Wigan, and
:33:59. > :34:06.there were a lot, but for a few missing for Salford as well. How big
:34:07. > :34:11.is that for Salford? It says to them that they can play against the likes
:34:12. > :34:17.of Wigan and get a result. I think they played really exciting sort of
:34:18. > :34:23.off-the-cuff rugby. It is really pleasing on the eye. They really
:34:24. > :34:27.started to challenge. Showing that they are contenders. For Wigan,
:34:28. > :34:31.taking a huge amount of heart in that very young team coming back in
:34:32. > :34:36.the second half. Looking at the squad numbers, it was ridiculous.
:34:37. > :34:39.They have got a great production line and some of those youngsters
:34:40. > :34:44.will grow from that. This adversity will be hurting at the minute but in
:34:45. > :34:49.the fullness of time they will be better for it. They have some very
:34:50. > :34:54.good young players. Next, it is Leigh who have not won anywhere
:34:55. > :34:58.since the middle of March. How do you prepare per game against a team
:34:59. > :35:06.on a run like that. They were desperate to win. As we felt we had
:35:07. > :35:12.to stay strong and oral decanter that. And my work, did. The
:35:13. > :35:20.halfbacks are playing really well at the minute. They are creating
:35:21. > :35:24.chances. You have the old warhorse, Danny coming in with a bit of ago, I
:35:25. > :35:33.think it was 90 metres told me he went. But we knew we would have to
:35:34. > :35:37.counter them. It didn't help when we conceded tries, but this is a
:35:38. > :35:44.defensive run that we spoke about before we came up, we put pressure
:35:45. > :35:50.on the execution. Did 90 metres in about ten seconds. We will let him
:35:51. > :35:57.keep doing that and we will time him! But this is our challenge...
:35:58. > :36:02.What was the technical review on this one? It was very technical. We
:36:03. > :36:09.will drop the ball and then we will do the Chuckle Brothers. To me, to
:36:10. > :36:13.you, then to me again! Such a soft try, it really did help Leigh back
:36:14. > :36:20.into the game. We were happy as well with that online defence, then we
:36:21. > :36:24.knew we were in for a tough game. But we also knew that Leigh can play
:36:25. > :36:31.a bit and there was a good drive from the Wainman who I thought had a
:36:32. > :36:36.pretty good game that time. Good kick there from Hampshire. Over he
:36:37. > :36:40.goes. Then Leigh all of a sudden, you felt they were starting to
:36:41. > :36:44.believe and they would turn up 20 points deficit around and come away,
:36:45. > :36:51.especially when it is Danny banging the bucket. But the composure of our
:36:52. > :36:56.players and the self belief really pleased about that. Is that
:36:57. > :37:01.something you have concentrated on this year? They have grown as a
:37:02. > :37:08.team, they really believe they are a good team. When use of the execution
:37:09. > :37:13.from John Randall, you can see why. The work defending, this was a
:37:14. > :37:22.pivotal moment. I'm sure looking back at this, then Jones was looking
:37:23. > :37:25.to tap the ball quickly and he didn't step into his line and the
:37:26. > :37:36.referee has got no alternative but to sit him on the sideline. --
:37:37. > :37:43.Tickle. Some good football again but it was when this fellow gets in, he
:37:44. > :37:50.is not bad either. He can run a little bit! The last tackle play, a
:37:51. > :37:54.bit of pressure but he follows that. Danny goes over at the very end for
:37:55. > :37:59.a good victory, but it was a surreal game. 20 points applicable to be
:38:00. > :38:06.paid back and then to close it out. So it is pleasing but we can learn a
:38:07. > :38:10.lot from that. I think Leigh will feel they have been struggling to
:38:11. > :38:14.score points but they certainly scored. Our final game takes us to
:38:15. > :38:17.Huddersfield, looking to record back-to-back wins for the first time
:38:18. > :38:23.this season. Opponents were Castleford.
:38:24. > :38:28.In night when the memory of Jennifer Davie very much at the forefront of
:38:29. > :38:56.Huddersfield supporters and the rugby league family at large.
:38:57. > :39:02.Castleford looking to try and find a way through this Huddersfield
:39:03. > :39:08.defence. Milner up at dummy half. Millington. Sending it backwards.
:39:09. > :39:15.Chasing the ball to the left-hand side. A gap created for Joel
:39:16. > :39:20.Monaghan to finish. Castleford with the opening score of the night.
:39:21. > :39:36.Danny Brough. Oliver Roberts pushed another yard close. Indecent
:39:37. > :39:40.position here. Danny Brough with a pass, the off-load, keeps it alive.
:39:41. > :39:52.He is Murphy tracking back towards the centre. Great from the fullback.
:39:53. > :40:11.Sam Wood. Brough. Angled run again. Brough with a pass. It is a second!
:40:12. > :40:19.I think that is five in his last four matches. He is prolific at the
:40:20. > :40:27.moment. Milner. A loose pass, they have lost a bit of ground, about 15
:40:28. > :40:32.yards. Castleford having to start again. McShane. That is a good,
:40:33. > :40:43.strong driving run but it has been left behind. The referee says play
:40:44. > :40:47.on. They have got it back again. Smuggled one way or another but
:40:48. > :40:54.Castleford are happy and they are still attacking. This is Milliken to
:40:55. > :40:56.finish. All kinds of shenanigans in the build-up but it is a clean
:40:57. > :41:15.finish in the end. O'Brien. It is going to be very close.
:41:16. > :41:21.O'Brien again. A short pass, really testing the Castleford line. But
:41:22. > :41:27.their resolve is holding out at the moment. Brough with a kick. A
:41:28. > :41:33.hat-trick! What a star he is turning out to be. Now he is fully fit,
:41:34. > :41:42.three tries in the first half. An Australian gem.
:41:43. > :41:53.McShane. Matt Cook to his right with a lot of bustle and energy again.
:41:54. > :41:57.Tom Holmes at dummy half. The personal stretched tonight with the
:41:58. > :42:04.absentees. Monaghan has taken it superbly and gets it back inside. He
:42:05. > :42:16.owes a huge debt of gratitude to Joel Monaghan with that prodigious
:42:17. > :42:21.leap. Short pass. Covered it again. Castleford holing up for the moment.
:42:22. > :42:25.Back to Brough, who is going for the one point. Could be massive in the
:42:26. > :42:37.context of the game. He edges his side ahead. Milner. 11 minutes left
:42:38. > :42:44.to play. Can Castleford get one point to tie things up? They are
:42:45. > :42:50.going for the kill. It is a penalty. Roberts hanging on, no doubt from
:42:51. > :42:55.the coach. Too much of a struggle for him to get up to play it.
:42:56. > :42:59.McShane with a big kick. He has put it over and it is Castleford who
:43:00. > :43:08.have that 1-point lead. You feel there are twists and turns to come.
:43:09. > :43:15.Huddersfield still inside their own half but bustling forward. Suddenly
:43:16. > :43:26.galloping away. Castleford desperately trying to get back to
:43:27. > :43:30.respond. The referee says that Jake Webster stole that after the tackle
:43:31. > :43:38.was finished. And he has been given a yellow card. What a big moment
:43:39. > :43:43.this is. It looked as though he was stealing it and he had to make the
:43:44. > :43:51.tackle. But a yellow card and a penalty against him, that is highly
:43:52. > :43:54.controversial. He cannot believe it. But it has given Danny Brough an
:43:55. > :44:00.opportunity to give his side the 1-point lead again. 21-20, this is
:44:01. > :44:13.turning into quite a night for the Giants. Millington. Danny Brough
:44:14. > :44:18.came in there, low and legs and the Castleford player is clearly
:44:19. > :44:25.unhappy, Millington clearly unhappy. The referee trying to sort things
:44:26. > :44:28.out here. You can see Millington is prowling around the back, he still
:44:29. > :44:34.wants to get in there. Being protected by one of his big men. You
:44:35. > :44:37.can see him, he has angled his shoulder at the knees with the
:44:38. > :44:43.players standing up. Dangerous contact. Ten minutes, that is
:44:44. > :44:58.massive now. Milner trying to get over the line
:44:59. > :45:02.itself but he can't. Castleford desperate to snatch victory from
:45:03. > :45:09.this perilous position. They are going to look wide. Though no --
:45:10. > :45:17.they don't need to look too wide! They go over for what might just be
:45:18. > :45:21.a matchwinner! It's certainly being greeted like that by Castleford
:45:22. > :45:29.players and fans alike. They might just have snatched it. Still
:45:30. > :45:40.clinging onto desperate hope here, Huddersfield. He keeps it alive. The
:45:41. > :45:46.ball is lost and out of play. And that might just be that. A sigh of
:45:47. > :45:53.relief from Castleford. Desperate frustration from Huddersfield. A
:45:54. > :45:59.game to remember but it's Castleford who get the two points.
:46:00. > :46:07.How got wrenching to watch that back again! Yes. We put ourselves in a
:46:08. > :46:14.really good position to win the game and felt like Castleford had a lot
:46:15. > :46:17.with England. We felt like we put ourselves in a pretty good spot
:46:18. > :46:23.throughout the game and felt like we were controlling the game, and to
:46:24. > :46:29.let it slip... You can see a few soft tries. I think we blew it more
:46:30. > :46:33.than anything else. Jake Munro is turning out to be absolute superstar
:46:34. > :46:40.for you guys. What has he brought to the team in terms of personality?
:46:41. > :46:48.He's mad as a box of frogs but in a good way! You forget sometimes, he's
:46:49. > :46:53.only 22 years of age. Very young. Really enthusiastic. Great talking
:46:54. > :46:56.the defensive line. Probably what stands out. He's really instinctive
:46:57. > :47:02.and you need to be instinctive to be a good full-back. He's lightning
:47:03. > :47:09.fast. You seem to be playing at a much greater speed than you were.
:47:10. > :47:16.Enthusiasm not only to his defensive line but also his talk. And his
:47:17. > :47:21.attacking line. Like you say, wherever there's a sniff of a try
:47:22. > :47:27.he's in and around that ball. Probably even more pleasing than
:47:28. > :47:31.some of the impressive ones. I think he will be over the moon with how
:47:32. > :47:37.his players coped with that. At the end of the game, with homes, Paul
