:00:37. > :00:46.It's a hive of activity here at the aquatic centre. Alongside me for the

:00:47. > :00:54.rest of the week, I love the way Becky looks at me to say, I went

:00:55. > :00:58.there. Becky Adlington, double gold medallist at the Olympics. How

:00:59. > :01:11.excited are you about the national anthem? We got the national anthem

:01:12. > :01:16.of Italy. It is exciting being at the European Championships. This is

:01:17. > :01:20.an opportunity for these guys to test themselves and see how they

:01:21. > :01:30.are. There is going to be nowhere to hide in three months' time. An

:01:31. > :01:44.exciting we can store. Here's what's coming next. In a couple of minutes

:01:45. > :01:58.time, Hannah Miley goes. Adam Peaty comes up later. We had a bit of a

:01:59. > :02:04.giggle because there is so much going on behind us. This really is a

:02:05. > :02:09.significant competition. It is a stepping stone, the biggest meeting

:02:10. > :02:14.before the Olympics. It is always a challenge. It is going to be a quick

:02:15. > :02:17.week. Maybe a world record, hopefully there will be. I great

:02:18. > :02:26.opportunity for these guys did she wear their act. What should people

:02:27. > :02:31.look out for? It's about stepping up and performing. We had our trials

:02:32. > :02:38.three weeks ago. I don't think our guys will be on top of their game.

:02:39. > :02:46.Some of the swimmers, this is their trials. The bottom line is,

:02:47. > :02:50.compared. Step up and compete against some of the best of

:02:51. > :02:56.swimmers. Some of our guys aren't at the top of their game. Big story

:02:57. > :03:02.about James Guy. We'll talk about that later. Right now, one of

:03:03. > :03:12.Scotland's finest. The lady we like to call Hannah Smiley Miley.

:03:13. > :03:18.COMMENTATOR: She could get a medal here. It is going to be really

:03:19. > :03:25.tired. Miley is streaking away now. She's got the gold. The crowd are on

:03:26. > :03:31.the effete, saluting a double champion. Well done, Hannah Miley.

:03:32. > :03:37.Let's talk about Hannah Miley. She's been competing for a long time. A

:03:38. > :03:41.brilliant servant to swimming. She is such a great role model. She

:03:42. > :03:46.works hard. One of the hardest trainers I have seen in my entire

:03:47. > :03:53.life. I used to hate Cheney against her. Back off, Hannah! -- training

:03:54. > :04:00.against her. She has a great relationship with her coach. Aimee

:04:01. > :04:04.Willmott in this as well. How much confidence should she have going

:04:05. > :04:13.into this final? This morning she went very hard at world record pace.

:04:14. > :04:21.The bottom line is, go in there and use your page -- pace. She's gaining

:04:22. > :04:24.experience than she is a couple of years younger than Hannah. Hannah

:04:25. > :04:31.has always nearly been there when it comes to Olympic Games. It's

:04:32. > :04:38.important for these two to get used to swimming next to her. One of two

:04:39. > :04:42.to watch over the next few minutes. Andy Jamieson and Karen Pickering

:04:43. > :04:58.will take you through the 400 metres women's IM. COMMENTATOR: There is

:04:59. > :05:08.Hannah Miley waiting in the waiting room. Nervous place when you are

:05:09. > :05:13.that close to your eyeballs. Always nice to have a team-mate there. A

:05:14. > :05:27.friendly face. These girls know each other well. Aimee Willmott will go

:05:28. > :05:38.in Lane 5. In her home pool. And between them Katinka Hosszu. The

:05:39. > :05:39.iron Lady. She will race them both tonight as well. She is a tough

:05:40. > :06:07.lady. Trombetti of Italy was the slowest

:06:08. > :06:11.qualifier. Anya Klinar. Carlotta Toni from Italy. She had an amazing

:06:12. > :06:24.brushstroke this morning. She was miles behind and by the end of the

:06:25. > :06:30.brushstroke she was in the hand. One of the threats here. She has been on

:06:31. > :06:37.the podium for this event. She has got form. Here comes Hannah Miley.

:06:38. > :06:46.What a favourite she is. She was European champion back in 2010. She

:06:47. > :06:54.has had some battles with Hosszu and Jakabos over the years. Aimee

:06:55. > :06:58.Willmott in her home pool. Coached here at the aquatic centre. She

:06:59. > :07:07.could get a medal. Wouldn't that be great. Hard to see past Katinka

:07:08. > :07:11.Hosszu of Hungary. The world champion, world record holder at the

:07:12. > :07:18.200 medley. Defending European champion of 2012 and 2014. Katinka

:07:19. > :07:25.Hosszu, the fastest qualifier. She is surrounded by Miley in three and

:07:26. > :07:33.Wilmot in five. Tactics here are going to be interesting. How do you

:07:34. > :07:38.swim against Katinka Hosszu? She was in a completely different race this

:07:39. > :07:44.morning. Seven seconds clear of the field. If they can get near, they

:07:45. > :07:50.must know they are swimming well. Very high quality field. Three of

:07:51. > :07:57.these four World Championship finalists from last year. There is

:07:58. > :08:04.the gold medallist, the Olympic champion, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary.

:08:05. > :08:10.While! Possibly the worst start I've ever seen in a major final from

:08:11. > :08:17.Katinka Hosszu. She completely got left of the block. Absolutely caught

:08:18. > :08:22.napping there. But up into the lead already. Not sure what happened to

:08:23. > :08:28.her. Maybe she thought she'd let the girls have a head start. Hosszu

:08:29. > :08:44.bleeding in the centre. One lane close to as is Hannah Miley. --

:08:45. > :08:53.leading. Goodness me. She has for such strong strokes. Freestyle may

:08:54. > :09:02.be the weakest. Jakabos, a good 200 by the fly swimmer. Strange gait she

:09:03. > :09:07.has there. A really slow turnover. But effective. She will come to the

:09:08. > :09:12.wall just ahead of Hannah Miley who has really improved her butterfly

:09:13. > :09:15.leg over the last few years. Going back to the Commonwealth Games,

:09:16. > :09:28.sheep changed her pacing in the race. -- she changed. Changed it,

:09:29. > :09:36.gave herself more of a chance. Close between Jakabos and Miley. But

:09:37. > :09:47.Katinka Hosszu. She is leading. Into the backstroke turn. 1.5 seconds

:09:48. > :09:56.behind is Jakabos in Lane 6. Hannah Miley is third. Jakabos does not

:09:57. > :10:03.have a great brushstroke at all. Doesn't have the prettiest strokes

:10:04. > :10:15.but she is so strong, Hosszu. She is not very broad but she is very

:10:16. > :10:25.ripped. Katinka Hosszu, the world champion is on the world-record pace

:10:26. > :10:30.by 1.1 seconds. Quite extraordinary. Hannah Miley starting to make a big

:10:31. > :10:35.move on the brushstroke in third. Coming back for Great Britain is

:10:36. > :10:41.Aimee Willmott. She could catch Jakabos on this breast stroke. Very

:10:42. > :10:46.good on the brushstroke and the front crawl. A lot of work to do.

:10:47. > :10:51.Look at the distance between her and Jakabos. She will be eyeing her up

:10:52. > :11:01.on every single stroke. She will be chasing down. Katinka Hosszu is just

:11:02. > :11:06.power. She wants to get the world-record, she needs to be well

:11:07. > :11:14.up after the brushstroke leg. The Chinese girl who held it had an

:11:15. > :11:19.extraordinary last 100 metres. 58.6 she finished to take Olympic gold in

:11:20. > :11:24.London. Some finish needed from Hosszu. She looks like she is tying

:11:25. > :11:37.up. Hannah Miley is coming back very strong at her. Great swim for Miley.

:11:38. > :11:43.100 metres to go. In first, Katinka Hosszu. In second, Hannah Miley from

:11:44. > :11:51.Great Britain. Jakabos is in third. Aimee Willmott is chasing her and

:11:52. > :11:57.she has a better freestyle. Katinka Hosszu, the world champion on the

:11:58. > :12:04.400 metre medley is swimming away. She was under world-record pace but

:12:05. > :12:10.it is a tough split. Hannah Miley still having a fantastic swim. Aimee

:12:11. > :12:16.Willmott is chasing down Jakabos. No, Jakabos is very experienced and

:12:17. > :12:25.will be desperate to hold are of. It's all about the world-record

:12:26. > :12:30.holder. She can't quite get in on this 400 metres medley. The first

:12:31. > :12:36.medal in this Championships absolutely clear. It goes to Hosszu

:12:37. > :12:41.of Hungary. Almost exactly the same time as she did to qualify for this

:12:42. > :12:50.final. Silver medal for Hannah Miley. The bronze to Jakabos of

:12:51. > :12:55.Hungary. Just outside the medals, in fourth position, Amy Willmott.

:12:56. > :13:02.Goodness me. What an amazing flyback breast. The start was just

:13:03. > :13:10.extraordinary. She stood and watched the rest of the girls dive in. Left

:13:11. > :13:18.on the block. There is sometimes she can make up. Hannah Miley really

:13:19. > :13:28.working the breaststroke leg. Strong in the closing stages to take that

:13:29. > :13:34.title. Katinka Hosszu yet again European champion. A new

:13:35. > :13:40.championship record for her. Great silver medal for Hannah Miley.

:13:41. > :13:47.Jakabos, the bronze. Aimee Willmott just outside the medals in fourth.

:13:48. > :13:52.STUDIO: Very impressive from Hannah Miley particularly the brushstroke.

:13:53. > :13:58.Aimee Willmott will be disappointed to miss out on a medal. She swam

:13:59. > :14:04.three seconds faster in the heats. She didn't leave enough in the bag

:14:05. > :14:11.for her. She needs to work on the backstroke for the games. How

:14:12. > :14:17.impressive was Hannah? 4.35 is a good swim. She has done it many

:14:18. > :14:20.times now but it will be around the medals in Rio. Breaststroke was

:14:21. > :14:27.unbelievably strong. She looked so good. I keep looking over your

:14:28. > :14:31.shoulder to see whether Hannah Miley is approaching Sharron Davies. We

:14:32. > :14:37.will see her get her medal a little bit later on. It is hot in here!

:14:38. > :14:42.Frustrating for Aimee Willmott but good times for Hannah. Difficult

:14:43. > :14:53.early on because it has been up and down for the swimmers so far. Any

:14:54. > :15:02.sign of Hannay yet? No sign. Let's turn to the 100 metres men's best

:15:03. > :15:03.rope. Hannah is here! A fantastic collection of silver medals for you.

:15:04. > :15:13.A really strong butterfly. My butterfly comes and goes,

:15:14. > :15:17.depending on the training, it is something I have always worked on. I

:15:18. > :15:21.looked at my logbook from and I was younger, and I started off as a

:15:22. > :15:26.butterfly swimmer, so it has always been in there, but it does affect my

:15:27. > :15:30.other strokes, so I am always playing around with it. It was

:15:31. > :15:39.always about the race, I did not go as well as in the trials, but it was

:15:40. > :15:43.a good race, just get stuck in and race against Hosszu, who always

:15:44. > :15:47.pulls it out of the bag macro. Trying so hard to hang on with the

:15:48. > :15:55.breaststroke, she had me on the last 100. It is something I can work on.

:15:56. > :16:03.Many congratulations. Thank you. Take as through the men's 100 metres

:16:04. > :16:12.breast rogue semifinals. -- breaststroke. That is Kaeser on

:16:13. > :16:16.Switzerland, but right in the centre, Ross Murdoch, the Scottish

:16:17. > :16:22.record-holder, the World Championship bronze medallist, he

:16:23. > :16:28.goes in four, and a very quick Dugonjic of Slovenia in lane five.

:16:29. > :16:40.It will be interesting, Ross Murdoch, the 200 specialist. The

:16:41. > :16:42.others are 50 specialists. Look at the power in the shoulders. He is a

:16:43. > :16:55.big boy! Semifinal number one of the men's

:16:56. > :16:59.100 metres breaststroke. Ross Murdoch right in the centre in the

:17:00. > :17:05.white hat, a very quick start from the Italian insects. At 27 years of

:17:06. > :17:08.age, I thought he may be over the hill in the dark at in-line six, but

:17:09. > :17:17.starting to come through is Ross Murdoch in number four. Murdoch has

:17:18. > :17:21.performed well over the 100 metres event even though he is a distant

:17:22. > :17:33.specialist. Ross Murdoch turning first, expect him to be strong,

:17:34. > :17:40.Dugonjic just behind him. He needs to hold onto his stroke and power

:17:41. > :17:44.down this last 25 metres, and he is looking good, Ross Murdoch, the

:17:45. > :17:50.Scottish record-holder, that stands at 59.1. If he can get and 60, that

:17:51. > :17:56.will be very good. It looks like he will win this first semifinal, very

:17:57. > :18:01.good indeed, impressive stuff. 59.9 in the heats, 59.6 in the semifinal

:18:02. > :18:06.will stick him in the centre lane in the final, really impressive, he is

:18:07. > :18:10.happy. The nodding his head, he will take that, great to get and the

:18:11. > :18:18.minute again, consistent performance from Ross, I like what he does.

:18:19. > :18:24.Into the turn, it was pretty close, I thought maybe the sprinters would

:18:25. > :18:30.take the race on a little bit more. The Italian did not really feature,

:18:31. > :18:34.it went the way of Ross Murdoch. Impressive that he held onto a

:18:35. > :18:39.stroke down the last 25. He was not fazed at all, he swam his race. The

:18:40. > :18:44.first semifinal goes to Ross Murdoch of Great Britain, he will get the

:18:45. > :18:53.centre lane, very good swim, under 60, 50 9.6.

:18:54. > :18:58.Well, Karen Pickering, he needed to go quick in the first semifinal,

:18:59. > :19:01.because in the second semifinal we do have Adam Peaty, but I believe

:19:02. > :19:06.Sharron Davies has got Ross Murdoch. It must be a nice feeling when you

:19:07. > :19:12.touch the wall first after 50 metres known what is in your tank. Snow, I

:19:13. > :19:18.had a disappointing start, but it just goes to show, all the work that

:19:19. > :19:22.I put in is not all gone, really strong back-end just there, so I am

:19:23. > :19:28.delighted. I will let you we have got the next semi coming, we will

:19:29. > :19:33.chat to you tomorrow. Good luck. Thank you very much. I hope we're

:19:34. > :19:41.straight into the swim down pool, get rid of the lactic acid in his

:19:42. > :19:48.legs. They need to get straight down there. In lane two, Peter Stevens of

:19:49. > :19:52.Slovenia, then the Italian, Toniato, then next to him will be Great

:19:53. > :19:58.Britain's Adam Peaty, the world record holder at 50 and 100. Yeah,

:19:59. > :20:02.what a talent, and talking about the big swimmers, they have to make

:20:03. > :20:11.T-shirts extra big for Adam Peaty, he has been hitting the weights.

:20:12. > :20:15.Titenis has been around for a long time, he will be the one to

:20:16. > :20:23.challenge Adam Peaty in the semifinal. He is huge as well,

:20:24. > :20:29.absolutely enormous! I am six foot four, lots of them are six-six, but

:20:30. > :20:32.they are built like brick houses, some of them. A huge amount of

:20:33. > :20:37.weight training they do to complement the work in the pool now,

:20:38. > :20:43.not just about swimming the metres, they pounded out in the gem. So Adam

:20:44. > :20:47.Peaty goes in fastest for the second semifinal, he in four. It should be

:20:48. > :21:01.between him and Titenis. Look at his chest, he slaps his

:21:02. > :21:14.chest to give him self heightened senses. Titenis is in five, Peaty in

:21:15. > :21:22.four. Well, Peaty swam a really good heat, we have not seen many go under

:21:23. > :21:27.59 seconds, and that was great, but still able to work on the start. He

:21:28. > :21:31.gets away so quickly, great reaction, but he is not able to do

:21:32. > :21:36.anything with it on the underwater work, that is an area he can improve

:21:37. > :21:45.through practice. Not bad down his first 50, goodness me, 27.3! Just

:21:46. > :21:48.0.28 outside of the record split for Adam Peaty, powerful swimming. Four

:21:49. > :21:53.metres clear of the field in his heat this morning, and look what

:21:54. > :21:57.doing to the rest of the swimmers down this second 50. Well, I wasn't

:21:58. > :22:03.expecting to say this, but let's keep an eye on the world record, it

:22:04. > :22:09.is his own, 57.9. Maybe he is tying up a little bit down the last 25, a

:22:10. > :22:18.body length clear over 100, quite extraordinary, 58.7. Two good times

:22:19. > :22:20.on the same day, and Peaty will go into the final tomorrow evening

:22:21. > :22:26.comfortably the fastest, and Great Britain are going to be 1-2 into

:22:27. > :22:33.that final, very exciting, what an amazing second 25! Do you know what,

:22:34. > :22:39.if I was a breast stroke up watching that swim, I would think danger!

:22:40. > :22:43.This guy does not start that well, but the swimming part of his race,

:22:44. > :22:52.just beautiful technician, look at the power he is using, tiny leg

:22:53. > :22:56.kicks, all upper body. A bit of a glide into the wall, he is not fully

:22:57. > :23:02.rested, he is looking towards Rio, and he can still post times like

:23:03. > :23:06.this. So Adam Peaty wins the second semifinal of the men's 100 metres

:23:07. > :23:16.breaststroke by 1.2 seconds. Gregory Titenis of Lithuania, he came

:23:17. > :23:24.second. A body length behind. So the finalists of the men's 100

:23:25. > :23:29.metres tomorrow night, Adam Peaty fastest, Ross Murdoch is second,

:23:30. > :23:41.Titenis was third. Only three men under 60. Goodness me, 58.7.

:23:42. > :23:45.I love that Adam Peaty's coach was ushered away from the back of the

:23:46. > :23:51.shot, I should have tried to lift her over, she is going like this,

:23:52. > :23:56.how happy will they be with that? Great swim, not arrested at all for

:23:57. > :24:01.this meeting, really hard training, three months out from the Olympics,

:24:02. > :24:08.racing exactly how he needs to in Rio, what an athlete. The front end

:24:09. > :24:13.split was there, only 0.2 off his world record pace which was set here

:24:14. > :24:19.last year. The backend stuff comes with rest. Getting and 59 seconds in

:24:20. > :24:23.the morning and evening, that is enough to win a medal. We can hear

:24:24. > :24:30.from him with Sharron Davies right now. Two fantastic 100 breast

:24:31. > :24:35.strokes today, the crowd 100% behind you. It is great to come out one of

:24:36. > :24:42.the greatest pools on earth and have your home crowd behind you. It is

:24:43. > :24:45.looking good. You are still an incredibly young man, twice

:24:46. > :24:49.nominated for spurts personality of the year, a lot of expectation on

:24:50. > :24:55.your shoulders. -- Sports Personality of the Year. These

:24:56. > :24:59.prestigious nominations and stuff like that, at the end of the day I

:25:00. > :25:03.just do what I do, I swim up and down, simple as that, really. I do

:25:04. > :25:09.not feel pressure as such, just having fun, hopefully giving the

:25:10. > :25:16.crowd good entertainment. Is it a race tomorrow, or is it a time? It

:25:17. > :25:20.is always about the race, but hopefully I will get a time I am

:25:21. > :25:24.happy with. If you said I was going to get 58s this week, I wouldn't

:25:25. > :25:30.have said yes, but I have been training so hard, looking good.

:25:31. > :25:35.From one young man in the spotlight to another, we were expecting James

:25:36. > :25:39.Guy to be in the freestyle 400 final tonight, he got silver in the World

:25:40. > :25:43.Championships last year, the fastest in this event by far in Europe, but

:25:44. > :25:47.to get to the final you have to get through the heats, this is what

:25:48. > :25:55.happened this morning. He is in the white cap in lane four. Nowhere near

:25:56. > :25:59.qualifying, he actually qualified in ninth, so a big surprise, a few

:26:00. > :26:04.questions asked, Sharron caught up with him. I thought we would try

:26:05. > :26:07.something new, I have been in a tough place, and people do not

:26:08. > :26:13.understand that I am not rested, I am training straight through, so

:26:14. > :26:17.after the final, I will race in the morning as well, and people forget

:26:18. > :26:21.that it is a lot harder. We thought we would try something new in the

:26:22. > :26:27.heats, and it was hard. I knew it would be. What was the something

:26:28. > :26:32.new? Wearing a skimpy is for the heats, I do not think it has been

:26:33. > :26:36.done for quite a few years. I thought I would try to simulate, if

:26:37. > :26:40.I felt bad in Rio on the first day, that is what it would be like, it

:26:41. > :26:45.was hard, I know what it feels like now. Up a lot of pressure on you,

:26:46. > :26:49.with the British crowd, you and Adam, there is a spotlight on you,

:26:50. > :26:55.did you feel that? Not really, I block that out, it is a good thing,

:26:56. > :26:59.how I can do that. Obviously, the media, Twitter and Facebook, people

:27:00. > :27:07.are saying things, but I focus on myself, I do best. At the end of the

:27:08. > :27:14.day, it is about Rio. 200 metres coming up, slightly smaller trunks?

:27:15. > :27:19.Definitely not, no more skimpies for me ever again!

:27:20. > :27:23.So why where the skimpies? I used to do and sometimes when you know you

:27:24. > :27:29.are in hard training, you are in a posh gym, give it a shot. But some

:27:30. > :27:32.miscommunication happened, because normally you can at least progress

:27:33. > :27:38.to the final if you are going to take that risk of not wearing a

:27:39. > :27:43.suit. It obviously did not pay off. It is incredible that it makes such

:27:44. > :27:47.a difference. It is mindset stuff, he is up there thinking he wants to

:27:48. > :27:55.make it a tad swim. In hard training, it is tough enough, making

:27:56. > :27:59.the European final. -- a tough swim. We know he is good, World

:28:00. > :28:04.Championship silver medallist, but he does not need to make it harder.

:28:05. > :28:11.In that interview, he said back off, Twitter, social media, media types

:28:12. > :28:15.like us, stop talking about this, leave me alone. He responded on

:28:16. > :28:21.Twitter by saying, I will do my thing, you do yours, if you don't

:28:22. > :28:24.know me, don't judge me. However, James, you are in the public eye,

:28:25. > :28:29.you have to take the praise with the criticism, we are all aware of that!

:28:30. > :28:33.Definitely aware of that, and Twitter can be your worst nightmare,

:28:34. > :28:38.and I know all about that, but at the end of the day everyone is going

:28:39. > :28:42.to judge and say, what is going on with his performance? Everyone

:28:43. > :28:46.wanted to see him swim fast this week, everyone wanted to see him on

:28:47. > :28:49.the podium. No-one is criticising him because he disappointed them,

:28:50. > :28:54.but they want to see him getting a medal, it is not a bad thing, they

:28:55. > :29:06.just want him to do well. You must be pretty confident thinking, I will

:29:07. > :29:11.try to make the final wearing that. He was obviously confident, he and

:29:12. > :29:16.his coach, but at the Ludwig aims the 400 is his best shout, and he

:29:17. > :29:22.wants to swim as often as possible, and that is a transmitter. -- at the

:29:23. > :29:27.Olympic Games. Get off Twitter, it is no place for a sportsman! Stephen

:29:28. > :29:29.Milne did make it into the final, let's see how we got on, we join him

:29:30. > :29:49.with 200 metres to go. The halfway mark of the first final

:29:50. > :29:58.of the men's four metres freestyle, and first to turn is Detti, but only

:29:59. > :30:05.by .05 of a second from the defending champion. He has been

:30:06. > :30:09.third for the first 200 metres, but got to the halfway turn, the black

:30:10. > :30:16.cat, really starting to dry and drive it away, interesting tactics.

:30:17. > :30:27.Interesting tactics. Detti might not have the speed in the early stages

:30:28. > :30:38.but he is going to be tough towards the end.

:30:39. > :30:51.It is Detti who still looks good. 100 metres to go. Two lengths of the

:30:52. > :31:04.pool. What a last 100 metres that was from Gabriele Detti. He has gone

:31:05. > :31:13.sub 3.4 four. He has put a massive length in. The others trying to hang

:31:14. > :31:20.on. Stephen Mill is out of it. This is going to be a very interesting

:31:21. > :31:27.last 50. Extraordinary penultimate length from Detti. He has really

:31:28. > :31:34.found another gear. To his right he can see all the swimmers. He is just

:31:35. > :31:48.out on his own. No doubt about the first gold medal of this 2016

:31:49. > :31:52.Championships. And a emphatic swim. The third fastest in the world this

:31:53. > :32:01.year. A new championship record. Very quick indeed. The gold goes to

:32:02. > :32:09.Gabriele Detti. The silver out in Lane 7, Henrik Christiansen. The

:32:10. > :32:15.bronze to Peter Bernek of Hungary. The defending champion way down in

:32:16. > :32:26.sixth. A great start from Stjepanovic. It was Detti out on his

:32:27. > :32:35.own in the closing stages. Only one kick? Typical distance freestyle.

:32:36. > :32:42.Breathing every stroke. To his right down the final length. He's happy

:32:43. > :32:53.with that. Result of the first final. And emphatic this victory for

:32:54. > :33:00.Gabriele Detti. Silver to Henrik Kristoffersen. Bronze to Peter

:33:01. > :33:07.Bernek. Over to Stephen Milne. What is your priority here? I'm happy

:33:08. > :33:14.with that race. I have a mixture of races in my programme. It is a tough

:33:15. > :33:26.start and a tough race. Now I have the 1500 and the four times two to

:33:27. > :33:33.come. Everybody wants to do well with a home crowd. We are going to

:33:34. > :33:37.do our best. Nobody is denying that they are just trying to do their

:33:38. > :33:44.best. James Guy is going to be annoyed when he sees the winning

:33:45. > :33:49.times. We had our Olympic trials a month ago when he did 3.4 three. We

:33:50. > :33:55.know he is capable of it. It's a shame that just a month later he

:33:56. > :33:59.can't qualify for the final and get the medal I believe he could have

:34:00. > :34:04.qualified for. He's learned something from that. Even this week

:34:05. > :34:13.in the 200 metres freestyle he will come back fighting and hopefully

:34:14. > :34:16.learn from that. He is still young and he was projected right onto the

:34:17. > :34:24.world stage. We were shocked when he got that medal. 2013, he was a

:34:25. > :34:29.bronze medallist at the British Championships. Becky knows what it's

:34:30. > :34:33.like to be catapulted into the spotlight. It's all about

:34:34. > :34:37.experience. The wrong experience that he wanted but still an

:34:38. > :34:45.experience. We've both been through Championships with heats, semis, and

:34:46. > :34:51.finals. You do try and save a little bit. Not a great day for him but it

:34:52. > :35:00.doesn't take away from what he has done. If he gets a medal in Rio,

:35:01. > :35:12.nobody is going to say, you more trunks in the heats! What you make

:35:13. > :35:17.of chances in the next race? I think sprinters have it a little easier.

:35:18. > :35:25.Every race you should be in decent shape. I did some work with him the

:35:26. > :35:31.other day. He looks in for nominal condition. I think he will get close

:35:32. > :35:44.to winning it. Let's see how he gets on. He is in the first semifinal.

:35:45. > :35:51.COMMENTATOR: Ben Proud in the first semifinal. He is the fastest

:35:52. > :35:59.qualifier. 22.9 is his record. What has he got to do? The same as this

:36:00. > :36:07.morning. He executed his race really well. Everything just a little bit

:36:08. > :36:15.better. I thought this morning he looked superb. I've got to agree

:36:16. > :36:23.with you. There is Cheruti of Israel in the outside lane. 50 metres

:36:24. > :36:27.butterfly. Ben Proud from Great Britain at the fastest qualifier. I

:36:28. > :36:33.don't expect too many people to be too close. Maybe the man in Lane 6,

:36:34. > :36:53.possibly. Todd a road Todd of first semifinal of the men's 50

:36:54. > :37:02.flight. Then Proud right in the centre. The British record-holder.

:37:03. > :37:09.Just a flat stroke. He doesn't go up and down very much at all. Uses all

:37:10. > :37:14.his energy to go forward. The blue hats, still hasn't breathed. Looking

:37:15. > :37:19.like he's going to take the semi. Must hit the ball on the end of the

:37:20. > :37:26.stroke and he takes it. Faster than his heat. Starting to warm up now.

:37:27. > :37:31.Then Proud wins the first semifinal of the men's 50 fly. He looked

:37:32. > :37:46.pretty good. He did not take a breath. Frederick Bush -- Bousquet

:37:47. > :37:51.looked good as well. Not taking a breath made the difference.

:37:52. > :38:00.Interesting pictures from six, seven and eight. Then Proud winning the

:38:01. > :38:10.first semifinal. He won by nearly a quarter a second from Bousquet and

:38:11. > :38:14.Cheruti. If you have got a lane, you've got a chance. Lane eight and

:38:15. > :38:25.Lane one were third and second in the semifinal. Don't worry about

:38:26. > :38:39.your own swim. Concentrate on everybody else, you've got a

:38:40. > :38:49.cracking chance. That's interesting. Govorov in Lane 4. Can he beat that?

:38:50. > :38:55.Will he be rattled? I don't think so. They know they've got to do

:38:56. > :39:02.their own thing. We see Laszlo Cseh. He has some medals to his name. A

:39:03. > :39:15.400 medley in the past. There is Govorov, 24 years old. 23.00 to

:39:16. > :39:22.qualify this morning. They know people are coming to them in every

:39:23. > :39:30.lane. They have to stick to their game plan. The voice of Karen

:39:31. > :39:37.Pickering, 38 national titles. Not sure I ever saw her do a 50 metre

:39:38. > :39:49.butterfly. They didn't do 50 metres in those days, did they? Govorov is

:39:50. > :40:08.the fastest qualifier in the second semifinal. Picture. Concentration.

:40:09. > :40:19.Calm, focus. Second semifinal, men's 50 fly. Govorov of the Ukraine was

:40:20. > :40:23.the fastest qualifier out of this series of semifinalists by 0.6

:40:24. > :40:28.seconds in the heats. He's going again. Look at the speed of the

:40:29. > :40:35.turnover. He sticks his head down and goes for the turn so fast. Just

:40:36. > :40:42.took a breath there. Is he going to spot the wall? Not bad. 22.7. That

:40:43. > :40:47.is an amazing swim. A new championship record for Govorov of

:40:48. > :40:54.the Ukraine. Not far from the world record of 22.5. I wonder if we'll

:40:55. > :41:03.see something like that in the swim. That was power. He took more breaths

:41:04. > :41:07.than the Ben Proud. Good start. Quickly away. Much more undulating

:41:08. > :41:23.through the water. Look at the gritted teeth. Love it! He just one

:41:24. > :41:32.that heat by about point eight. A new championship record, 22.7.

:41:33. > :41:40.Second, 23.5. Fascinated to hear what Mark Foster says about that.

:41:41. > :41:50.Ex-world record in this event. Govorov will be a clear favourite in

:41:51. > :41:55.that final tomorrow night. STUDIO: Mark Foster, you are very happy with

:41:56. > :42:03.that is it because you know him and like him because you predicted the

:42:04. > :42:10.time? It was an black and white TV when I did that. I think what I was

:42:11. > :42:17.saying, when I went down a week ago and did some work with him. We did a

:42:18. > :42:22.chat. Seeing what he does in the gym specifically for his event. Watching

:42:23. > :42:28.what he does and how focused he is on it. It's wonderful to see. I was

:42:29. > :42:35.saying to Becky, look at his back. He is just solid. The 50 fly is not

:42:36. > :42:46.in the Olympics, the 50 free is but it shows what shape using. It is a

:42:47. > :42:52.lot of Jim for sprinters. The hours that you spend in the pool. 25 hours

:42:53. > :43:00.a week plus the gym on top of that plus physio and rehab. I went to the

:43:01. > :43:09.gym with Siobhan-Marie O'Connor once, most embarrassing day of my

:43:10. > :43:17.life. Let's see how Fran Halsall will get on now. COMMENTATOR: She

:43:18. > :43:24.has certainly got a medal. At last, a bronze medal for Great Britain.

:43:25. > :43:31.What a double. The 50 freestyle and now the 50 fly. They touch. Fran

:43:32. > :43:37.Halsall is European champion. What a tremendous week. COMMENTATOR: The

:43:38. > :43:52.first semifinal of the women's 50 metres butterfly. Fran Halsall in

:43:53. > :44:04.Lane 5. Nice clean start. This one length butterfly. Of very quick. It

:44:05. > :44:08.is to some and hustle. Fran Halsall is looking very flat and very good.

:44:09. > :44:18.She is the British record-holder. Very good second 25. That is only

:44:19. > :44:27.just outside her Commonwealth and British record. Really impressive

:44:28. > :44:35.indeed. Fran Halsall wins it. There is a good 0.35 between first and

:44:36. > :44:40.second. Surprising how much she took out of her there. We see her pop up

:44:41. > :44:48.pretty well. We see the blue hat from Fran. Ironing out the

:44:49. > :44:53.undulations. All about being flat and through the wall and spotting

:44:54. > :45:05.the wall. Took the first semifinal. The results.

:45:06. > :45:19.The second semifinal, the world record holder goes in four.

:45:20. > :45:26.And not the greatest start, interestingly, right in the centre

:45:27. > :45:31.from Sjoestroem of Sweden, and not the greatest of all, but

:45:32. > :45:37.Kromowidjojo right in the centre, a better start, but coming back now,

:45:38. > :45:41.Sjoestroem, working hard in this 50. Interesting to see, sometimes she

:45:42. > :45:47.does not breathe, she did not when she set the world record, but that

:45:48. > :45:52.looked very hard indeed. 25.42, she has won the second semi, Fran

:45:53. > :45:58.Halsall won in 25.35, Fran Halsall goes into the final fastest ahead of

:45:59. > :46:07.the world record-holder. She will love that. You can see we start, she

:46:08. > :46:12.got away well, but Kromowidjojo underwater much, much stronger, then

:46:13. > :46:16.we see the power of Sjoestroem, so strong. She made hard work of it,

:46:17. > :46:23.having to really fight back against the Dutch girl one lane up, but so

:46:24. > :46:27.flat in the water, she does not breathe in the 50 butterfly. So the

:46:28. > :46:37.results of the second semifinal of the women's 50 metres butterfly.

:46:38. > :46:46.The top three are as expected, but not quite in that order, though. So

:46:47. > :46:50.the qualifiers for the final of the women's 50 metres butterfly, Fran

:46:51. > :46:54.Halsall goes in fastest, Sarah see a strong, the world record-holder, is

:46:55. > :47:01.second. What a final that is going to be. -- Sjoestroem.

:47:02. > :47:06.That was a second best ever time for me, so I do not know where that came

:47:07. > :47:14.from, but I think the fact that we have got this event, UK Bought

:47:15. > :47:20.putting it on, it has put us in good spirits for the rest of the tour,

:47:21. > :47:24.the home crowd is a great advantage. As a sprinter, it is fantastic to

:47:25. > :47:31.have this event as the lead up to Rio. Definitely, you have the top

:47:32. > :47:35.five right here, so to have that going into the Olympics, you cannot

:47:36. > :47:41.ask for anything better. We will see you tomorrow! Yes, you will, thank

:47:42. > :47:45.you, Sharron! Understandably buzzing from that performance, how

:47:46. > :47:49.impressive was that given the competition? She looked an

:47:50. > :47:53.absolutely great shape, I am so pleased for Fran, this will be her

:47:54. > :47:58.third Olympics, she works hard, she has been a great role model, and she

:47:59. > :48:05.is a world-class sprinter, her skills are second to none, and for

:48:06. > :48:08.her to do that, the second fastest time ever, home crowd, should be

:48:09. > :48:11.absolutely buzzing. You have got to take that in hard training, give

:48:12. > :48:17.yourself a pat on the back for that one! The crowd love her, because she

:48:18. > :48:22.is crackers in the best possible way, a great character, a good

:48:23. > :48:26.advert for the sport. A wonderful advert, eight character, and she can

:48:27. > :48:30.be a little bit erratic. I mean, she can be, but on form she is

:48:31. > :48:33.unbelievable. For a lot of people, we have seen it with a lot of

:48:34. > :48:37.swimmers over the years, when you get people who believe in

:48:38. > :48:41.themselves, we all have doubts, but you have to believe in yourself when

:48:42. > :48:45.you step up. When she believes in a cell, she has performances like

:48:46. > :48:51.that, and the only thing missing is the Olympic Games. -- when she

:48:52. > :48:55.believes in herself. She has got the right attitude going into the

:48:56. > :48:59.Olympics. So when is the right time to taper? The Olympics are not far

:49:00. > :49:03.away, we have just had the British trials, how would you get that

:49:04. > :49:07.right, where does the balance come? It is different for every single

:49:08. > :49:11.athlete, and a lot of these guys that are just got back into their

:49:12. > :49:16.hard work after coming back from our Olympic trials, they will just now

:49:17. > :49:20.be peaking upwards into the hard training, and then two or three

:49:21. > :49:24.weeks before the Olympic Games, they start wresting back again. It is a

:49:25. > :49:29.solid block of work they have to do, and especially for the sprinters, it

:49:30. > :49:35.is easy speed, they get natural speed a lot when they rest. The

:49:36. > :49:38.thing is, Fran is not rested, so she should have a massive amount of

:49:39. > :49:44.confidence. She is at best when she is happy and smooth and she does not

:49:45. > :49:49.overthink everything. She doesn't snatch. She holds the water, that is

:49:50. > :49:53.a big thing, you have just got to relax for the first couple of

:49:54. > :49:58.strokes, your adrenaline is pumping, slow things down. The fact that

:49:59. > :50:03.every day, every session, you can do quite a lot of sprinting at your

:50:04. > :50:09.pace and your distance, so Becky can do 800 as a pace all the time, it

:50:10. > :50:14.would kill her! We talk about Hannah Miley, we have one medal in the pool

:50:15. > :50:18.already, a silver medal for Scotland's Hannah Miley, they she is

:50:19. > :50:23.receiving it for the 400 metres individual medley. We love Hannah

:50:24. > :50:30.Miley. She is my age! Why did she look so young and I look so old?!

:50:31. > :50:35.Budgie is just a little rocket, she is one of that people that has been

:50:36. > :50:40.so throughout her whole career. She really deserves it, she is such a

:50:41. > :50:44.great role model. That was won by Katinka Hosszu, the world champion,

:50:45. > :50:48.no surprise, so what does that mean in turn of the Olympics and the

:50:49. > :50:57.world stage, can she be on the podium? Definitely, she has proved

:50:58. > :51:00.it, she has been unfortunate not to be added best and other people

:51:01. > :51:07.peaking at the right time. At the Olympic Games, she has had fifth and

:51:08. > :51:11.sixth, but on the right day, 4.35 is not 1 million miles away from where

:51:12. > :51:15.she needs to be, so she is there, she just needs to keep doing that.

:51:16. > :51:24.She looks so much stronger than before, but she looks much stronger.

:51:25. > :51:28.We will turn our attention to the women's 4x100m relay, no British

:51:29. > :51:40.interest, but it is a final, here it is.

:51:41. > :51:43.And in lane four, the fastest qualifiers, unfortunately Great

:51:44. > :51:47.Britain just missed out, they were ninth after the heats this morning.

:51:48. > :51:54.But the Dutch team really are very powerful indeed, but fascinating,

:51:55. > :52:01.right on the outside, up in lane eight, the Swedish team are going to

:52:02. > :52:04.be starting with Sjoestroem, world number three, the European

:52:05. > :52:11.individual champion, she will be right at the top of the shot.

:52:12. > :52:15.Finland are in lane one, then Spain, Denmark, the favourites of the

:52:16. > :52:22.Netherlands in three. Sweden at the top. Well, we fully expect

:52:23. > :52:25.Sjoestroem, the number three, the European champion, the World

:52:26. > :52:31.Championships other medallists to guard very fast indeed. She has had

:52:32. > :52:35.a decent start at the top. Of course, she swam the 50 butterfly

:52:36. > :52:40.already in this session, so we would expect her to be feeling it a little

:52:41. > :52:45.bit, but the tactics are to put their fastest swimmer off first, get

:52:46. > :52:53.out in front, and they are doing that, 25.78 at the 50 metres mark. A

:52:54. > :52:56.very fast first 50, and she is really working this second 50, not

:52:57. > :53:01.leading the rest of the field as much as I thought she might. Going

:53:02. > :53:09.well in the centre, in lane three, is Team Denmark. Right at the top,

:53:10. > :53:20.Sjoestroem was first, yes, Sweden first, Denmark were second, third is

:53:21. > :53:25.Holland. 54.6, 53.4 from Sjoestroem, not bad at all. Pretty good for your

:53:26. > :53:30.second swim of the night, she was feeling it in the last five or six

:53:31. > :53:37.metres there, but no surprise that she is tough in the freestyle

:53:38. > :53:45.events. So she was leading, the Swedish swimmer, but the fantastic

:53:46. > :53:49.Duchess printer, at the World Championships last year she was

:53:50. > :53:55.fifth, and she really has had a fantastic first 75 metres. --

:53:56. > :54:00.fantastic Dutch sprinter. She is leading by a metre or so on the rest

:54:01. > :54:07.of the field. At the halfway mark, it is Holland leading in first

:54:08. > :54:13.place, Sweden in second, maybe just in lane five, that is Team Italy,

:54:14. > :54:16.and they come through very well. Pellegrini on the last leg, that

:54:17. > :54:21.will be very interesting for the Italians. Opposite tactics for the

:54:22. > :54:25.Italians, putting their fastest swimmer last, Sweden starting with

:54:26. > :54:29.theirs. The Netherlands have got talent the whole way through, they

:54:30. > :54:35.really have a great history of freestyle swimming and relay

:54:36. > :54:39.results. Kromowidjojo will be anchoring the team for the

:54:40. > :54:46.Netherlands, the Olympic champion, 1500 freestyle, part of the World

:54:47. > :54:50.Championship winning team at the World Championships a few years ago

:54:51. > :54:59.now, the Dutch team has really picked up a number of medals over

:55:00. > :55:05.the years. The great Olympic champion on the 50 and the 100,

:55:06. > :55:09.surely they cannot be beaten now, Kromowidjojo goes in for Holland,

:55:10. > :55:14.they are leading. Second, maybe still Sweden, that is a surprise.

:55:15. > :55:20.Now, in the centre, can Federica Pellegrini of Italy catch up? This

:55:21. > :55:25.is really tight. It is about the minor medals, isn't it? Kromowidjojo

:55:26. > :55:29.absolutely out on her own, Sweden still in the race, in second place,

:55:30. > :55:34.France in third. Sweden have come back strong, but can Charlotte

:55:35. > :55:40.Bonnet fourth France get in the mix? This is a battle, Italy are still

:55:41. > :55:45.fighting, it is for the minor medals, the Dutch girls are way out

:55:46. > :55:51.in front. Gold for Holland in the relay, but silver and bronze are so

:55:52. > :55:55.tight, Pellegrini coming back, will she steal silver? Gold goes to

:55:56. > :55:59.Holland, silver goes to Italy, and amazing final leg from the Italian,

:56:00. > :56:03.they have got gold and bronze in this session already, what a great

:56:04. > :56:08.swim for them. No doubt about the winner, the Olympic champion on the

:56:09. > :56:11.50, Jelavic champion over the 100, Kromowidjojo brought it back for

:56:12. > :56:19.Holland in emphatic style. -- the Olympic champion. A massive, massive

:56:20. > :56:26.robbery, I would suggest, for the bronze medal, Sweden, eighth

:56:27. > :56:29.fastest, getting bronze. It was all about their lead-off swimmer,

:56:30. > :56:34.Sjoestroem did her stuff, leading by example, but a great finish by

:56:35. > :56:38.Hanson as well to bring them home. But Pellegrini, wow, first time we

:56:39. > :56:41.have seen a swim at these championships, she loves a relay.

:56:42. > :56:50.The start, of course, Sjoestroem right at the top, great start for

:56:51. > :56:54.Sweden. Holland way out in front, Kromowidjojo with her first gold

:56:55. > :57:03.medal of these championships, I doubt it will be the last.

:57:04. > :57:12.So she brings back team Holland, gold for them, Italy take silver,

:57:13. > :57:18.Sweden the bronze. We turn our attention to the men's

:57:19. > :57:23.4x100m final, Mark was busy making notes! In the room, Mark! Not the

:57:24. > :57:29.best swim from our boys this morning, what did you make of it? It

:57:30. > :57:33.was not the best swim! We have not got the four good guys in the 100

:57:34. > :57:38.metres freestyle, we have got two guys, they will just get in and see

:57:39. > :57:43.what they can do. The important thing is racing, getting the

:57:44. > :57:46.experience, the 200 guys, it is speed work for them. Benjamin Proud

:57:47. > :57:58.and Duncan Scott, they will be vying for the 100 metres freestyle spot in

:57:59. > :58:03.the medley relay in Rio. How will Proud be doing? He has already been

:58:04. > :58:08.in the pool. You has only done one length! Being a sprinter, it is not

:58:09. > :58:11.likely that they will get a medal in this, but it is a great opportunity

:58:12. > :58:18.for the 200 boys to get in the relay, doing the takeovers, good

:58:19. > :58:21.practice for the four by 200, where they are really strong, and they are

:58:22. > :58:30.racing against the best in the world. Right, OK, now that we have

:58:31. > :58:38.really big them up, let's see how they get on!

:58:39. > :58:53.Thank you, Helen, Mark, Team Greece just being paraded, they are in lane

:58:54. > :58:58.number two. Great Britain will be in lane eight, right at the top of the

:58:59. > :59:05.shot. Here is the Romanians in lane six, fourth fastest qualifiers for

:59:06. > :59:15.the final. They are right next to Italy, then Belgium coming out next.

:59:16. > :59:20.Interestingly, the tactics from the Italians. They have got a strong

:59:21. > :59:29.team, the world number two leading it off, but a fantastic swimmer to

:59:30. > :59:36.anchor the team. They have got that talent. He has been swimming so many

:59:37. > :59:39.years for the Italians, he keeps producing results. When you have got

:59:40. > :59:43.someone with that experience to go on the end of your team, you can

:59:44. > :59:48.start with a faster swimmer as well. France, well, what a class team they

:59:49. > :59:51.have been over the years. They have had their moments, haven't they,

:59:52. > :59:57.when they have been favourite, and you just think, and amazing team but

:59:58. > :00:03.they have not delivered? So Great Britain sneaked into the final in

:00:04. > :00:06.eighth place in lane eight, France fastest qualifier in four. I wonder

:00:07. > :00:11.which team we will see for them here. They have the quality, and

:00:12. > :00:15.they have had that over the years, but they don't always deliver the

:00:16. > :00:24.results. A little bit crazy, the French, or not they?

:00:25. > :00:41.Great Britain at the top. Robbie Rennick leading off. The final of

:00:42. > :00:44.the men's four by 100 metres freestyle relay. A very good start

:00:45. > :01:14.by the Italians. It is, as expected, Dotto. Really high in the water.

:01:15. > :01:20.Like a powerboat using that leg kick to skirt over the top of the water.

:01:21. > :01:30.Can Dotto hold this pace? He's looking strong in the closing stages

:01:31. > :01:34.of his leg. Very tight takeover. Italy first, Belgium second, third

:01:35. > :01:47.room mania. Great Britain look like they are six or seven at the moment.

:01:48. > :01:52.-- third room mania. You don't want to be diving into that kind of wave

:01:53. > :01:59.that really rocks you around. The tactics on the men's freestyle relay

:02:00. > :02:04.are so important. Again, straight arm stroke you see of these

:02:05. > :02:09.sprinters. It's not pretty but it is strong and effective. Fascinating

:02:10. > :02:16.from the French in the centre, starting to come back. It's going to

:02:17. > :02:21.be Italy. Another tight takeover. The halfway mark. Italy first, front

:02:22. > :02:27.second and starting to turn it on now. They've caught up the Italians

:02:28. > :02:49.so fast. Great swim from Gilot, a great part of their

:02:50. > :02:58.relay over the years. Again, not pretty. On the water. That power

:02:59. > :03:04.pushing through. Making the most of every leg pull. The race is all

:03:05. > :03:09.about efficiency. About half a metre between the two of them as they

:03:10. > :03:23.touched. Look at the start from the Italian. That is Magnini in Lane 5

:03:24. > :03:32.in the dark hat. Greece doing well in Lane 2. A fascinating last 50.

:03:33. > :03:37.Where did they come from? Will it be the French pulling away? Did Magnini

:03:38. > :03:50.go too fast in the first 50. Paying the price now. Mignon may have paced

:03:51. > :04:02.it a bit better. France win gold, silver is so second. It was Italy, I

:04:03. > :04:10.think. In Lane 5. Really close. 100th of a second ahead of Belgium.

:04:11. > :04:21.In fourth, so close, what a shame it was for Greece. Great Britain

:04:22. > :04:26.finished seventh. Well, what a swim from Greece. Surprised that they

:04:27. > :04:42.were in the mix in the closing stages. Dotto got the Italians off

:04:43. > :04:53.to a fantastic start. Manaudou got the French back in it. Flo Mo! Have

:04:54. > :05:00.to give him a nickname. Magnini wasn't moving in the last metres.

:05:01. > :05:08.Not surprising because he went off like a shot. Italy beat Belgium by

:05:09. > :05:18.one 100th into the silver medal. Great Britain coming seventh.

:05:19. > :05:25.STUDIO: Not great but let's not forget British team is the gold

:05:26. > :05:33.medallist in the 200 meter relay. Now let's turn to the 100 metre

:05:34. > :05:46.men's but strokes. Including this man. COMMENTATOR: Vili powering

:05:47. > :06:07.ahead. He looks like he means business. Brilliant gold.

:06:08. > :06:23.Interesting starts in the backstroke allowed down.

:06:24. > :06:32.Looking good is Christou of Greece. Executed well, it is beautiful to

:06:33. > :06:42.watch. The power they have in their shoulders. Great underwater work

:06:43. > :06:51.from Christou. Walker-Hebburn a bit off the pace at the moment. Christou

:06:52. > :06:55.is going well at the moment but the rest of the field, it is tight. It

:06:56. > :07:07.looks like Christou is going to take it. Very fast indeed. Second the

:07:08. > :07:13.Italian. Walker-Hebburn was fourth. A dangerous place to finish in the

:07:14. > :07:21.first semifinal. Conor Ferguson, 54.9 nine. Just outside the time he

:07:22. > :07:28.needed to qualify. If it was me, I'd take him anyway, at 16 years of age.

:07:29. > :07:44.One to watch for the future. As we watch a replay of that finish.

:07:45. > :07:46.Walker-Hebborn was fourth. Second semifinal of the men's 100 metres

:07:47. > :07:59.backstroke. I'm not sure if you sure the bar on

:08:00. > :08:04.the wall. You can put your feet on a little bar which really does help.

:08:05. > :08:09.Used to slip a lot down the wall. Now they have a bar to keep it

:08:10. > :08:23.steady. Pretty steady in this second semifinal. As expected, a good start

:08:24. > :08:29.coming from Lacourt. Should be strong in the closing stages. Has a

:08:30. > :08:40.lovely strong stroke. Actually, very close across this. It could go

:08:41. > :08:43.anywhere. Also dangerous to Walker-Hebborn who finished in

:08:44. > :08:50.fourth in that first semifinal. Coming through in Lane 3, the

:08:51. > :09:12.Russian wins it. That is very close indeed. Lacourt was second. Goodness

:09:13. > :09:25.me. It is tight. Beautiful work from the backstroke underwater. It was so

:09:26. > :09:38.close, reaching for the wall. The results of the second semifinal. The

:09:39. > :09:45.final places very tight indeed. The qualifiers for the final. Look at

:09:46. > :09:54.that, Shane Ryan has made it into the final. A great swim from the new

:09:55. > :10:04.final record holder. No place in the final four Walker-Hebborn. A lot of

:10:05. > :10:09.pressure when it's a home crowd. Definitely. I want to give these

:10:10. > :10:15.guys what they pay for. Obviously, our focus is the Olympics. I gave

:10:16. > :10:21.that my all. 54.7 is pretty good considering where I am in training.

:10:22. > :10:28.At the same time I'm not disappointed. New technology getting

:10:29. > :10:34.the time. Is it something you have to adapt to. It's great that the

:10:35. > :10:40.backstroke wedge is used everywhere. It is standard now. I love it. It

:10:41. > :10:45.takes out the element of slipping. You don't have to worry about it.

:10:46. > :10:57.I'm glad it's here. Back to more hard work now. That's all right.

:10:58. > :11:03.Walker-Hebborn failing to make the final there. It feels like that

:11:04. > :11:10.people are either smashing it or the opposite of smashing it. I saw Chris

:11:11. > :11:14.earlier and he looked shattered. He said he was going back for a nap.

:11:15. > :11:20.These guys are seriously hard training. You said he hadn't

:11:21. > :11:25.arrested at all. Really struggling, just giving it his best shot.

:11:26. > :11:29.Unfortunately, when you are not on form in hard training, it's not

:11:30. > :11:35.easy, speed. It's a lot of hard work. It's difficult to talk about

:11:36. > :11:39.Olympians having a four-year cycle and expecting them to big a couple

:11:40. > :11:52.of months before a massive competition. Explain what shaved

:11:53. > :11:59.down means. I let Mark explain that. When coming to a major competition,

:12:00. > :12:04.at the beginning of the season, when you come to be, you do less and less

:12:05. > :12:11.but more quality work. The last thing you do properly before you

:12:12. > :12:15.race is people shave, they get a shave and shave all the hair off

:12:16. > :12:21.their legs. The sensation in the water is just of flying and sliding

:12:22. > :12:27.through the water. That is when you are at your peak and the icing on

:12:28. > :12:34.the cake. Especially for the guys who can only wear jammers. You have

:12:35. > :12:41.to consciously make an effort to do it. It's a mental thing, not just

:12:42. > :12:47.physical. You feel better once you have shaved down and you feel

:12:48. > :12:50.smoother in the water. Adam Peaty is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest

:12:51. > :13:01.of the world. He is absolutely flying. Some coaches will give them

:13:02. > :13:08.a bit of a rest. If they have a peek, why come here? It is pointless

:13:09. > :13:13.to try and use it as a training week. Have a competition. Get on the

:13:14. > :13:21.block and get confidence. Come away with some decent times. Cyclists

:13:22. > :13:27.talk about marginal gains. It makes the world of difference. The tiniest

:13:28. > :13:32.bit of leg hair. Let's talk about the women's 200 meter backstroke. In

:13:33. > :13:41.the first semifinal Kathleen Dawson and Charlotte Evans. They finished

:13:42. > :13:52.sixth and eight in this one. So, this was the first of two

:13:53. > :14:01.semifinals. It meant that... Is the second semifinal. The Hungarian once

:14:02. > :14:06.again one mess. Hosszu, the world champion, the iron Lady. An

:14:07. > :14:12.incredible athlete. This is the qualifying. The British girls just

:14:13. > :14:17.outside the qualification. It is still only day one. We will see how

:14:18. > :14:22.the rest of the week pans out. We keep talking of the Olympics. The

:14:23. > :14:30.ladies and gentleman who will be on the plane representing British

:14:31. > :14:35.women. About a month ago, the British trials happened which means

:14:36. > :14:42.all of the British team were selected. 26 will be on the plane

:14:43. > :14:52.heading to South America. COMMENTATOR: Absolutely world-class.

:14:53. > :15:07.Fabulous swim. Punches the air. Superb therefrom Chloe Tottenham.

:15:08. > :15:13.Tutton. Adam Peaty, what are swim! Can't complain. The main job was to

:15:14. > :15:19.qualify. Really happy. Absolutely superb swim from Shuttleworth. He's

:15:20. > :15:26.taken 20 seconds off his personal best. A girl who missed out on going

:15:27. > :15:33.to the Olympics in London. It means so much to me. I'm moody, emotional,

:15:34. > :15:40.all sorts. To come away with the time on my last swim is an amazing

:15:41. > :15:45.relief. Max Litchfield can touch down his passport. He's going to

:15:46. > :15:51.Rio. More than good enough to get on the plane. Hannah Miley is going to

:15:52. > :15:56.touch here. Inside the qualification time for the big games. Then Proud

:15:57. > :16:02.is going to be British champion. Excellent swim.

:16:03. > :16:09.Those were the faces, these are the names, what you make of the team,

:16:10. > :16:15.some star names that people will recognise, who is likely to be on

:16:16. > :16:19.the podium? You have got names like Fran Halsall, Adam Peaty, Jazz

:16:20. > :16:27.Carlin, but what was great from the trials is that we were introduced to

:16:28. > :16:30.new swimmers, Chloe Tutton, guys who swam their hearts out to make the

:16:31. > :16:36.team, they fully deserved their spot-on the team as well. Yeah, she

:16:37. > :16:42.has said the names, but what is really exciting is, I went to five

:16:43. > :16:46.Olympics, then I saw Becky in 2012, now we are sitting up here, but I

:16:47. > :16:51.have never gone into the Olympics in, I would kind of give them a gold

:16:52. > :16:58.medal already. But having Adam Peaty at there as your leader, and what I

:16:59. > :17:01.have found, being in the team, it spreads believe that somebody can do

:17:02. > :17:08.it, you can do it. They are not all going to do it, but we have got such

:17:09. > :17:11.good depth, James Guy has a couple of good races coming, depth across

:17:12. > :17:15.the board. They are not going to come back with bags full of gold

:17:16. > :17:20.medals, but we have got strength in depth, which is very exciting. What

:17:21. > :17:26.about notable absentees? There are names you might have expected to

:17:27. > :17:31.see, who is not on the list? Obviously, Michael Jamieson, silver

:17:32. > :17:35.medal in London, he just missed out. Liam Tancock, Lizzie Simmonds are

:17:36. > :17:44.not there, they just missed out on the team, it was a very strict

:17:45. > :17:47.selection policy, you had to hit a certain time, it was guys within 2%

:17:48. > :17:50.of that time who were able to go. Then a few wild cards, Dan Wallace

:17:51. > :17:54.did not have a great trials, but he got a wild card because of his

:17:55. > :17:57.performances last year out of the World Championships. You know what?

:17:58. > :18:01.They decided they wanted on the team as an option the relay. It is a

:18:02. > :18:08.shame they did not have a few more wild cards to give younger guys the

:18:09. > :18:14.opportunity to go to the Olympics. You have also got to remember, the

:18:15. > :18:18.four year cycle, Michael Jamieson had a silver medal, we thought he

:18:19. > :18:23.would move onto other things, but staying at that high injuries come

:18:24. > :18:29.in, it is hard on the body and hard on the mind. Some people fall off.

:18:30. > :18:33.Tancock has been around for a long time, we knew his body was giving

:18:34. > :18:39.in, but it is a surprise not to see him. The body starts speaking to him

:18:40. > :18:44.three months to early, I would say. You talk about wild cards, but apart

:18:45. > :18:49.from that, it is tough to make the team, there is only one chance to

:18:50. > :18:54.qualify. Other countries are not that harsh, is it harsh? It is, it

:18:55. > :18:59.is kind of how they look at it, you get one shot at the Olympic Games,

:19:00. > :19:04.one opportunity to win the Mall at the Olympics. So we should do that

:19:05. > :19:08.at trials, have that high pressure situation with one chance to

:19:09. > :19:13.qualify. That is why they do it, it is a smaller team than London, but

:19:14. > :19:18.we have not got a home Olympics. It is all focused on medals, the times

:19:19. > :19:22.were difficult to qualify, but it is about focusing. In the past, we have

:19:23. > :19:26.had swimmers who have said, it is my dream to make the team! It should be

:19:27. > :19:32.your dream to get on the podium. It is, it is true! It does, it happens,

:19:33. > :19:36.and I think we need to change the mentality in Britain, and we're not

:19:37. > :19:40.going to do that unless we make it tough for these guys to qualify.

:19:41. > :19:43.Even this week, we are going to see some top racing, that is what they

:19:44. > :19:53.were allowed to do in three months' time. Looking deeper, only about 30

:19:54. > :19:57.people go, if they don't go now, they have to wait another four years

:19:58. > :20:01.to go. The swimmers have been selected, but

:20:02. > :20:05.the divers have not, they really needed to pull it out of the bag,

:20:06. > :20:09.and they certainly did that. I caught up with Tom Daley at the end

:20:10. > :20:14.of the championships, we will hear from him in a few minutes, but let's

:20:15. > :20:18.celebrate their success. At the end of the week, they topped the medal

:20:19. > :20:23.table, three gold, five silver, three bronze, and they were actually

:20:24. > :20:34.crowned diving team of Europe, let's celebrate their success.

:20:35. > :20:48.A hop, skip and jump, oh, what a dive! Yeah! Incredible finish, Tom

:20:49. > :20:52.Daley and Reid! Phenomenal, that will be good enough for the silver.

:20:53. > :21:08.Yes, yes! Exceptional! The British team are on their feet,

:21:09. > :21:09.the coaches are smiling. Supreme diving from Tom Daley. China,

:21:10. > :21:25.beware! Yes! Spectacular finish! Fair to say a very successful

:21:26. > :21:29.European Championships, two gold, one silver, how happy are you? I am

:21:30. > :21:34.over the moon with the way the week has gone, it is amazing being able

:21:35. > :21:39.to dive in front of the home crowd, and the pool has so many memories. I

:21:40. > :21:43.train here everyday, it is where I won Olympic bronze, it is so nice to

:21:44. > :21:52.train in front of your friends and family. It is the most fun ever.

:21:53. > :21:55.Your mum is over there, she must be the most nervous woman in Britain.

:21:56. > :22:00.She has got nerves of steel, she just says there and claps along. The

:22:01. > :22:06.head of British swimming came over, he said, Tom did well? Yeah, he did

:22:07. > :22:12.all right. It was very nearly three gold medals. It was very close in

:22:13. > :22:16.the synchro, 0.94 away from gold, a bit frustrating, it could have been

:22:17. > :22:21.a hat-trick, but I am over the moon. In terms of the individual event,

:22:22. > :22:25.how nerve wracking is it for you? You were in the competition, you are

:22:26. > :22:29.at there, are you aware of what he has done in his diet? I am

:22:30. > :22:35.completely aware of every diver, because I love to know exactly what

:22:36. > :22:40.I needed you, watch their scores, and then when I go to the end of the

:22:41. > :22:46.board, it is about making sure I do better. If I see that they get 9.9,

:22:47. > :22:51.then I need ten. It gives me a bit more adrenaline. Your second dive,

:22:52. > :22:53.you are the only person who does that, your face when you set off was

:22:54. > :23:03.a picture. That makes breaks become petition

:23:04. > :23:08.for me, it is my newest dive, it is risky to do, but I had to do it,

:23:09. > :23:12.because my old twister was just horrendous. I had to change it and

:23:13. > :23:16.do something slightly different. For me, it is about making sure I get

:23:17. > :23:25.the start right. If I do, everything else flows, but it was terrifying on

:23:26. > :23:33.the top of the board, I knew Victor had done a terrific dive, and I had

:23:34. > :23:38.to do it better. This is a sport that favours the brave, last time

:23:39. > :23:44.around you to two medals, this time ten, how is the mood? The last

:23:45. > :23:49.Europeans were the most successful, two medals, and now we have won ten,

:23:50. > :23:53.and it just shows that British diving is in really strong condition

:23:54. > :23:58.leading into the 2016 Olympics games, and it is really exciting.

:23:59. > :24:02.Are you thinking about Rio now, or just celebrating a brilliant week?

:24:03. > :24:07.There is not a second of the day goes by when you are not thinking

:24:08. > :24:12.about Rio. How much you sleep, how much you eat, the training you do,

:24:13. > :24:17.it is all geared to one moment in Rio in the competition, making all

:24:18. > :24:22.those dives count. It has put us in a good position, like, you know, it

:24:23. > :24:27.is a subjective sport, so for the judges to be able to see us doing so

:24:28. > :24:31.well overall as a team, fingers got for this competition, but we have

:24:32. > :24:36.won overall European diving team title, so really exciting. I will

:24:37. > :24:40.keep my fingers crossed, it is looking good. Congratulations this

:24:41. > :24:45.week, good luck for the next few months. Thank you very much. Do not

:24:46. > :24:49.adjust your telly, the colours are not broken, that was yesterday, this

:24:50. > :24:53.is today! Plenty more action in the pool tomorrow, if you want to join

:24:54. > :24:59.us tomorrow, then crowd goes in the 50 metres butterfly final... -- Ben

:25:00. > :25:14.Proud. It is all about a lad from Derby

:25:15. > :25:37.with massive guns! Adam Peaty is a very rare athlete,

:25:38. > :25:43.one of our greatest ever, he is a privilege to watch, just to be able

:25:44. > :25:47.to say that I know him. The months before the world record in April, I

:25:48. > :25:53.knew he was capable of doing something. Goodness me, he wins the

:25:54. > :25:57.gold! Just so pleased for the little bad that I had coached from the age

:25:58. > :26:04.of 14 with a bad haircut. Very special moment for me. The pressure

:26:05. > :26:07.was on him when he went to the World Championships. He was the number

:26:08. > :26:14.one, he had broken the world record, and he was now the guy to watch. The

:26:15. > :26:22.50 metres breaststroke, just insane. Ears very well placed at this

:26:23. > :26:27.stage... He swam his perfect race. That was certainly a crowd pleaser.

:26:28. > :26:38.What a superstar! From a coaching point of view, the 100 metres was

:26:39. > :26:42.not easy to watch. This is a very big lead... I was cheering and

:26:43. > :26:49.screaming, thinking, he is not going to do it! Then he does it. He has

:26:50. > :26:52.got it on the very last stroke. For him to cope with the pressure in his

:26:53. > :26:57.first World Championships, at the age of just 20, that is when he

:26:58. > :27:03.became a man for me. What an athlete, and what a year he

:27:04. > :27:07.had lasted, look at your faces! I love them two, they are amazing,

:27:08. > :27:12.such a perfect team together, and I am so pleased for Adam, he deserves

:27:13. > :27:16.everything, he works so hard, him and his coach are such a

:27:17. > :27:20.combination, honestly, they are hilarious to watch, they need their

:27:21. > :27:24.own reality show, they are so funny together. I really hope he does it

:27:25. > :27:28.at the Olympic Games, that is the only one missing from his

:27:29. > :27:32.collection, then he would have the whole set. Before that, the

:27:33. > :27:37.Europeans tomorrow night, you know what he is capable of, how excited

:27:38. > :27:47.should we be? Up their area excited. You don't seem it! I am very

:27:48. > :27:51.excited. I think he will win it, win it by a bit. He has got all the

:27:52. > :27:56.experience, then it is all about Rio, bottom line, we all know that,

:27:57. > :28:02.but at the moment he is on fire, and I think, as Mel says, you are not

:28:03. > :28:06.melt anymore, you are Becky! He is a very special person, you get the

:28:07. > :28:10.combination of a special person, the athlete and the coach, it is

:28:11. > :28:17.beautiful. If you want to tune in tomorrow to see how he gets on, you

:28:18. > :28:22.can, we are on BBC Two from 6:30, and you can tune in via the red

:28:23. > :28:25.button from six o'clock. Thank you for your company this afternoon! We

:28:26. > :28:30.are all going to sit in a freezer, it is so hot here, that explains why

:28:31. > :29:02.we are slightly crazy. See you tomorrow, bye-bye!

:29:03. > :29:04.This could be the game of the season.

:29:05. > :29:06.There's going to be fireworks. A repeat of the 1990 final.

:29:07. > :29:09.What do you mean, Wigan aren't playing, cocker?!

:29:10. > :29:12.Connor Wickham! It's got penalties written all over it.

:29:13. > :29:15.Brilliant save! I reckon England will win the FA Cup.

:29:16. > :29:18.I think they'll take it this year. Yeah...
