:00:44. > :00:47.Good afternoon and welcome to coverage of day three of finals in

:00:47. > :00:50.the pool at the World Championships in Shanghai. There will be

:00:50. > :00:54.fireworks today when Michael Phelps comes up against his American team-

:00:54. > :01:02.mate, Ryan Lowe Cody. And the reigning world champion, Paul

:01:02. > :01:06.Biedermann, in the 200m freestyle. Other stars to look out for

:01:06. > :01:11.include... Lizzie Simmonds, who just squeezed into the final of the

:01:11. > :01:15.100m backstroke. She took silver in this at the European Championships.

:01:15. > :01:19.Another two just to make it into the final was Liam Tancock. He is

:01:19. > :01:22.fastest over one length and needs to have one foot two. We could see

:01:22. > :01:26.the first world record of the championships with Rebecca Soni of

:01:26. > :01:31.the USA in the 100m breaststroke. I'm delighted to say that Mark

:01:31. > :01:35.Foster is he with me again today. That world record, if Soni managed

:01:35. > :01:39.to set one, and any world record set at this World Championship,

:01:39. > :01:44.this is the first major meat since the high tech suits were banned.

:01:44. > :01:48.Last year, the Commonwealth Games last year, its two Eid years on.

:01:49. > :01:52.When the suits came out, world records were broken left right and

:01:52. > :01:57.centre. You didn't know whether it was the suits or the swimmers. But

:01:57. > :02:03.this will be, and hopefully the world person to get a world record

:02:03. > :02:08.since those its. It will be a real world record. As swimmers, I never

:02:08. > :02:13.got to use the new suits, but we love to use the body suits.

:02:13. > :02:16.Anything that makes you swim faster, put a suit on and go a best time.

:02:16. > :02:21.Everyone had the opportunity to use them. But now it's got to the point

:02:21. > :02:26.where it's gone backwards. I always wanted the Times to go away and the

:02:26. > :02:30.world records go back. Hopefully when people go fast in the world

:02:30. > :02:35.records are well be true records. has been a bit of trouble out there

:02:35. > :02:39.in China in the British camp. Word of a bit of a bug going around.

:02:39. > :02:44.There was talk of it. Gemma Spofforth, he did so well a couple

:02:44. > :02:48.of days ago, she got the bug and its Michael Roberts as well. Out of

:02:48. > :02:52.a team of 40 swimmers you will always get one or two people go

:02:52. > :02:57.down with something. The Lizzie Simmonds and Liam Tancock, outside

:02:57. > :03:02.chances of a medal? It's a kind of cliche, but if you've got a Lane,

:03:02. > :03:09.you've got a chance. They have got the opportunity. And they are on

:03:09. > :03:19.the outside, away from everybody else. We saw it with Becky

:03:19. > :03:34.

:03:34. > :03:44.Adlington on Des one. First up, we medal. It's a world record. Michael

:03:44. > :03:45.

:03:45. > :03:52.Phelps has got it, another world Its Lochte verses Phelps, but you

:03:52. > :03:56.have Paul Biedermann, Agnel, Quan Pride Park, who has already won a

:03:56. > :03:59.gold medal. In turns of the way this raises laid out, what you're

:03:59. > :04:05.feeling about Phelps? There's talk in America that he might not even

:04:05. > :04:10.get a medal. You can never rule him out. When the time comes,, the man

:04:10. > :04:13.and he performs. Leading into this, as much as he hasn't done the Times,

:04:13. > :04:17.and you've got to remember the Americans had their qualification

:04:17. > :04:21.last year, so they didn't have trials three or four macro weeks

:04:21. > :04:25.ago. On paper, he could be on the outside but never rule him out.

:04:25. > :04:32.Personally, I'm going between him and Lochte. But you've got

:04:32. > :04:36.Biedermann, who is third in the 400m. Park won the 400m and Agnel

:04:36. > :04:41.is the young pretender, the new kid on the block. Who do you think has

:04:41. > :04:47.the most pressure? Michael Phelps. Every race Michael Phelps goes into

:04:47. > :04:51.he's got the pressure. Not from himself, everybody X -- else

:04:51. > :04:54.expects him to win. Some of atmosphere there. When it comes

:04:54. > :04:58.down to technique, we had always been concentrating on Michael

:04:58. > :05:03.Phelps and his turning and how Laity is coming up from the

:05:03. > :05:07.underwater. Lochte is even better at it. Better by a slight margin,

:05:07. > :05:12.they are as good as each other. They are a tiny bit better than the

:05:12. > :05:17.rest of the world, but a tiny bit is enough. If you can gain...

:05:17. > :05:24.went into that turned a body length behind Biedermann and came up half

:05:24. > :05:29.a length up. Then he just sort of cruised to the end and to give easy.

:05:29. > :05:33.I mention did yesterday, if you think of the start of the turns you

:05:33. > :05:38.can do 15 metres underwater, times that by four length, that's 60m.

:05:38. > :05:45.You've got two of the guys in there, but two Americans, that are the

:05:45. > :05:50.best at this in the world. It's one of those things, I can't see those

:05:50. > :05:53.two being beaten but the other guys have a lot of backhand. A lot of

:05:53. > :05:58.noise and chat. The swimmers tend to wear big headphones. Is that

:05:58. > :06:02.something you ever did to block it out? I didn't. I used to look at

:06:02. > :06:06.music before I went down to race. A lot of people, it's what suits you.

:06:06. > :06:09.Michael Phelps always did it in the Olympic Games. He's done it for as

:06:09. > :06:14.long as I've known him on the international scene. Other people

:06:14. > :06:17.have seen it and have thought... It depends what you listen to. Some

:06:17. > :06:21.people have house music, some people have calming music -

:06:21. > :06:31.whatever works for you. I liked chatting to other people, I tried

:06:31. > :06:34.to put them off. You didn't! Hello, I'm here! Let's go for it because

:06:34. > :06:38.amazing introductions as well in Shanghai, they are really building

:06:38. > :06:48.up the theatre and drama. This is one of the highlights. It's the

:06:48. > :07:11.

:07:11. > :07:16.at 400m freestyle in the middle of the lanes that I think they just

:07:16. > :07:25.completely forgot about Park, who was way out in lane one. He nipped

:07:25. > :07:29.off early. I wonder if somebody else will here. Park always holds

:07:29. > :07:38.something back in the semis, as has Phelps. That's why he's qualified

:07:38. > :07:48.in 5th place. I think Phelps went a little bit slow in the heats. Asked

:07:48. > :07:54.

:07:54. > :08:01.the first time but slow one the crowd one by one. There is Danila

:08:01. > :08:07.Izotov, the 19-year-old Russian. Bronze medal in Rome in this 200m

:08:07. > :08:17.freestyle, aged 17. The second Russian in this field. Lobintsev

:08:17. > :08:26.

:08:26. > :08:31.freestyle as a junior. Meichtry of Switzerland. He just missed the

:08:31. > :08:35.final in Rome. Now Michael Phelps, the greatest swimmer in history,

:08:35. > :08:45.Olympic champion on this 200m freestyle, along with seven other

:08:45. > :08:48.

:08:48. > :08:53.events. Tae Hwan Park, won the gold on the 400m freestyle already and

:08:53. > :09:01.look really good in the heats on 200m. And your favourite for this

:09:01. > :09:11.race, Ryan Lochte, of the USA. looked fantastic. He's very strong

:09:11. > :09:12.

:09:12. > :09:15.on his turns. If he's ahead, they won't be able to catch him. Really?

:09:15. > :09:25.Because this guy comes back like a train. He is Paul Biedermann of

:09:25. > :09:26.

:09:26. > :09:29.Germany. A relative unknown, 19- year-old. Agnel, of France. SA19,

:09:29. > :09:35.because the other guy has far more international experience but he

:09:35. > :09:39.looked really good in the heats and semi-finals. European champion. No

:09:39. > :09:43.French man has ever won gold medal at the World Championships in the

:09:43. > :09:53.swimming pool. There's the defending champion, the world

:09:53. > :09:55.

:09:55. > :10:01.focus. I think Lobintsev will go out fast. I think Phelps and Lochte,

:10:01. > :10:06.a little bit slow out usually. And Biedermann needs to get out fast.

:10:06. > :10:10.Phelps his in two. If Lobintsev does go out Topshop, Phelps

:10:10. > :10:20.believes to his right, so Phelps will be watching Lobintsev. I

:10:20. > :10:28.

:10:28. > :10:34.wonder if that will drag him Phelps at the top there. Phelps in

:10:34. > :10:38.two, Ryan Lochte in three. Phelps has gone off very quickly. He

:10:38. > :10:42.doesn't normally go off this quick. He's gone off like a shot.

:10:42. > :10:47.Absolutely. This rings true as to what he was saying this morning, if

:10:47. > :10:52.he's at 150 he has the best chance. He knows Ryan comes back very

:10:52. > :10:58.strongly. Lobintsev is still with him. The race is at the top. Phelps

:10:58. > :11:08.has fantastic underwater kicking. To the left of the shot, Lobintsev,

:11:08. > :11:13.

:11:13. > :11:21.Phelps and Lochte. Biedermann is in to try and break the field. This is

:11:21. > :11:28.very interesting. So fast as well. Did you see Lochte's turn then? He

:11:28. > :11:32.took out Phelps on the Turner. -- turn. Lochte has made his move

:11:32. > :11:40.already. I'm not sure if Michael Phelps knows he's gone already.

:11:40. > :11:48.Reading to his right. -- breathing to his right. I wonder if Lochte

:11:48. > :11:53.has worked too hard? Coming back is Agnel in the four. The rest of the

:11:53. > :11:59.field will come back. Lochte leading but Phelps is coming back

:11:59. > :12:07.again. It looks like it's going to be a USA gold. Lochte's wheels are

:12:07. > :12:14.coming off and the rest of them are coming back very fast. Lochte wins

:12:14. > :12:18.the Gold for the USA, Phelps get the silver. Would you believe it!

:12:18. > :12:23.Lochte finally beats Michael Phelps and it's in the 200m freestyle.

:12:23. > :12:29.That was a great swim from Lochte. For me, he had the stamina. I've

:12:29. > :12:35.seen him all week this week doing that. Of that last term. The third

:12:35. > :12:45.turn did it. Phelps went in leading but Lochte had an awful -- or some

:12:45. > :13:20.

:13:21. > :13:27.brilliance. And just digging deep That looked like it hurt a bit on

:13:27. > :13:31.the last 20 metres. Yeah. When you get to this level, no race is easy.

:13:31. > :13:36.It definitely heard at the end. But I'm lucky that I was able to pull

:13:36. > :13:41.it off a. You like the 200, don't you? That's kind of the optimum

:13:41. > :13:46.distance we you. Yet, the 400 is a little too long and the 100 is a

:13:46. > :13:50.little too short. I heard you fell off your bike before you came here,

:13:50. > :13:53.and that's great preparation as far as you're concerned. I always

:13:53. > :13:58.getting -- end up getting injured before a major competition. The

:13:58. > :14:03.accident that I had, I was used to it. It was just another bump in the

:14:03. > :14:07.road but I was able to get back on track and definitely show up and

:14:07. > :14:11.swim well here. You can tell by the way that he talks how laid-back he

:14:11. > :14:17.is. Everything he has done, very slowly. Great sense of humour,

:14:17. > :14:20.seems a very relaxed guy. The funny thing is, he touched on how he gets

:14:20. > :14:26.heard coming into a major competition. He likes skateboarding,

:14:26. > :14:29.he is a surfer. He is, my job is in the pool but as soon as I'm out of

:14:30. > :14:35.their I have a life outside of it. Very laid-back, unbelievably good

:14:35. > :14:39.at what he does. To beat Michael Phelps, it hurts, every race hurts,

:14:39. > :14:43.but the bottom line is it's going to a heard Michael Phelps a lot

:14:43. > :14:46.more, not just mentally, because he lost the race. If you were picking

:14:46. > :14:50.a point won that race turned, it a point won that race turned, it

:14:50. > :14:54.would be at the second turn. The halfway point. You will see that

:14:54. > :15:00.helps is in front. Lochte is behind him. When they come out of this

:15:00. > :15:04.term, Lochte is ahead. You see them both underneath the water at the

:15:04. > :15:14.top of the screen. Look East is under a little bit longer and then

:15:14. > :15:21.

:15:21. > :15:25.Michael Phelps. That's how important it is. At never heard of

:15:25. > :15:27.the 5th stroke, but the 5th a the 5th stroke, but the 5th a

:15:27. > :15:31.stroke as we are going to call it, it is a skill in itself. In Britain

:15:31. > :15:36.in particular, we are not very good at it. This is the dolphin kick

:15:36. > :15:40.under water. In the States, the reason they are so good at it, the

:15:40. > :15:44.collegiate system is so competitive and its insured pools. There's a

:15:44. > :15:47.lot of turning involved. It's so important so they just practise it

:15:47. > :15:50.and get it right. We need one or two sessions a week in people's

:15:50. > :15:54.programmes to focus on that. Lochte is going to be one of the big stars

:15:54. > :15:58.of the London Olympics. What is fun about him is when he turns up for

:15:58. > :16:02.the qualifying races that don't necessarily matter, he wears little,

:16:02. > :16:12.coloured swimming trunks where is everybody else is in their black,

:16:12. > :16:18.

:16:18. > :16:27.I saw a picture of him with some shorts with a little stars on them.

:16:27. > :16:36.He has a habit of wearing gold teeth. Phelps is looking all right

:16:36. > :16:41.with his silver. He has fun. It is unbelievable what he has achieved

:16:41. > :16:49.and how good he is. But we do not often see Michael Phelps standing

:16:49. > :16:54.on the podium and not on top of it. He has a relaxed attitude. Of

:16:54. > :17:01.course he wants to win but it is not like and that. Plenty of

:17:01. > :17:06.Michael Phelps. He is dealing fairly well with second place.

:17:06. > :17:13.think this could not have happened at a better time for him. It is a

:17:13. > :17:22.cake to tell him he is not number one in the world any more. -- kick.

:17:22. > :17:29.They are both 26. One of them trained in Michigan. Can we see his

:17:29. > :17:34.teeth? You will have to take my word for it. He has gold teeth.

:17:34. > :17:42.They are both great for the sport. You cannot see the teeth very much

:17:42. > :17:51.there. Trust us, there is a gum shield on there. What a fantastic

:17:51. > :17:55.way to kick off in Shanghai. There will be an awful lot of shouting

:17:55. > :18:01.for the Chinese swimmer who took gold in the Asian Games who is in

:18:01. > :18:07.the final of the back trachea. The Americans have been down on

:18:07. > :18:17.themselves. They are only got a bronze in the freestyle relay. They

:18:17. > :18:33.

:18:33. > :18:42.have got Natalie Coughlin in this lane one. Talking of Natalie

:18:42. > :18:51.Coughlin, no woman has ever wind more than twice in this competition

:18:51. > :19:01.in history. It never happens. It could happen three-times in one

:19:01. > :19:20.

:19:20. > :19:29.Terakawa of Japan, being introduced to the crowd in eight position. She

:19:29. > :19:35.swam 59 - when earlier this year. Here comes Lizzie Simmonds. She is

:19:35. > :19:45.a good swimmer. If she can produce a best time, which she sat last

:19:45. > :19:45.

:19:45. > :19:55.deer, she could do something here. -- she sat last year.

:19:55. > :19:56.

:19:56. > :20:05.Here is Belinda Hocking from Australia. Sinead Russell is a 24

:20:05. > :20:12.and in Rome. She is from Canada. -- 24th in Rome. She did well in the

:20:12. > :20:22.backstroke 100m medal back there. Not as many medals as we would have

:20:22. > :20:23.

:20:23. > :20:33.expected. Here comes Zao Jing. She has been training in Australia for

:20:33. > :20:33.

:20:33. > :20:43.part of the year. World to be chaired silver medallist Anastasia

:20:43. > :20:45.

:20:45. > :20:55.a zoo of a -- Anastasia Zuyeva. Now Natalie Coughlin. She is on the

:20:55. > :20:57.

:20:57. > :21:07.comeback trail. She was an Olympic champion in the backstroke. I think

:21:07. > :21:20.

:21:20. > :21:25.she must start as favourite. But very big crowd. Capacity crowd. Day

:21:25. > :21:32.three of the world championships and the gold could go anywhere. It

:21:32. > :21:42.is a tough one to call. Natalie Coughlin start different from the

:21:42. > :21:52.rest. She leads her head out on the way back. She got a slow reaction

:21:52. > :21:53.

:21:53. > :22:02.there. It did not look great at all but a decent start. The black cap

:22:02. > :22:08.is right in the centre. She is not as tall as the rest of these women.

:22:08. > :22:18.Coughlin is very tough. She has been easing off in the heats but

:22:18. > :22:21.

:22:21. > :22:31.not doing the full extent of what she can do. She is not out of it at

:22:31. > :22:33.

:22:33. > :22:43.all. Lizzie Simmonds can also come back. Zao Jing is coming up. They

:22:43. > :22:51.

:22:51. > :22:58.are all coming back. Who is going to get the gold? So tight. China

:22:58. > :23:07.won it on the last stroke. It was up by wind and one hundredth of a

:23:07. > :23:17.second. I just wonder if she took too much out of herself on that

:23:17. > :23:22.

:23:22. > :23:30.last turn. All four are women went in at the same time. 15 metres.

:23:30. > :23:40.Coughlin had a big lead. Just watch the arms. They all went in first.

:23:40. > :23:42.

:23:42. > :23:49.But China went in last but so strong. Two world champions tonight.

:23:49. > :23:59.And what a way to swim. She went out slowly and came back on the

:23:59. > :24:09.field. China has won at 59.05. Anastasia as waiver in second and

:24:09. > :24:14.

:24:14. > :24:24.Natalie Coughlin of the USA at The I am so pleased to be in the

:24:24. > :24:25.

:24:25. > :24:34.final. It was great to raise those girls. We saw you jumping around.

:24:34. > :24:40.It was all late 0.05 across the whole thing. -- only 0.05 across

:24:40. > :24:50.the whole thing. It was only a minute from yesterday. It was

:24:50. > :24:53.

:24:53. > :24:58.pretty impressive. The quality is a very strong. We know you are a

:24:58. > :25:08.strong finisher. I am looking forward to it. I am going to rest

:25:08. > :25:10.

:25:10. > :25:16.up for a couple of days. A little bit less splash and -. What keeps -

:25:16. > :25:22.- a little bit as splashing around. What keeps you might have made it?

:25:22. > :25:27.I love working with my chickens. This is a fantastic job.

:25:28. > :25:32.motivated. I love travelling around and representing my country. I know

:25:32. > :25:37.I cannot do it forever. I am holding On and enjoying it for as

:25:37. > :25:41.long as I can. Does that mean we will see you next year? I really

:25:41. > :25:46.hope I will be there next year and competing for my country. That is

:25:46. > :25:51.the main goal right now. World championships are a big deal but my

:25:51. > :25:56.main focus is the Games next year. It is amazing how many people are

:25:56. > :26:03.latching on to London. Not just British swimmers but also the

:26:03. > :26:09.Americans. There were lots of examples of swimmers hanging on and

:26:09. > :26:16.sell their 30s to go to the Games. I look at some of the events and

:26:16. > :26:23.everyone on that field is up field of 21 bar Natalie. But some people

:26:23. > :26:28.have played in the Games at 41 or 42 years of age. It is still

:26:28. > :26:32.possible. It depends on the mind set. When you put yourself through

:26:32. > :26:39.it day-in and day-out it will take its toll physically and mentally.

:26:40. > :26:49.For me it was more mentally. She thinks she is lucky and I also

:26:49. > :26:55.think I am lucky. Sports is your job and it doesn't last forever.

:26:55. > :27:00.Even when you present it you need some training! We such China win

:27:00. > :27:06.with a huge reception from the Chinese crowd. How much of a

:27:06. > :27:10.difference does it make? When I was in the Winter Olympics in Canada,

:27:10. > :27:19.they finished top of the medals table, and we also saw it in

:27:19. > :27:23.Hungary and Italy. It also is a -- definitely is a huge factor.

:27:23. > :27:29.Whoever holds the Olympic Games is going to have their best year.

:27:30. > :27:33.London will probably be at their best here next year. I think what

:27:33. > :27:39.helps us that you are in that facility a few times before it

:27:39. > :27:43.happens so it becomes a relaxed environment. It sounds stupid

:27:43. > :27:50.because you think they are at their a week before but it is not their

:27:50. > :27:55.home pool. We always swam in Sheffield. When we had major

:27:55. > :28:03.competitions we would swim there because it was our home. Having the

:28:03. > :28:09.crowd and the support and thousands of people there, it is like having

:28:09. > :28:17.the 12th man, in football turns. The British are not performing

:28:17. > :28:22.great at the moment. 7th for Lizzie Simmonds was all right. At the

:28:22. > :28:30.beginning of this year she did not have a great season. The 200 is her

:28:30. > :28:36.major event. She was not far off her best time. You aim for doing

:28:36. > :28:41.your best time. She was not far off the mark. We know that Jemma

:28:41. > :28:49.Spoforth had a bit of food poisoning. I think that Michael

:28:49. > :28:53.Phelps and people like that need a kick to get them going. And that is

:28:53. > :28:59.how countries inspire and influence sportsman. They can also influence

:28:59. > :29:03.the mood in the country. And there has not been more work up an

:29:03. > :29:07.emotional response than when Alexander Dale Owen took the gold

:29:08. > :29:13.for an away. He pointed to the Norwegian flag and flexed his

:29:13. > :29:20.biceps, a show of strength to his countrymen back home. -- gnaw away.

:29:20. > :29:24.He said that everyone needed to stay focused and that it was

:29:24. > :29:29.important that even though he was in China he could still feel the

:29:29. > :29:39.emotions. You will see Alexander Dale Owen in the second of these

:29:39. > :30:00.

:30:00. > :30:07.semi-finals. Here is the line-up has come from nowhere. He actually

:30:07. > :30:17.made the heats last year. He was 20 nights in the breaststroke here. I

:30:17. > :30:17.

:30:17. > :30:27.did not know there were 29 swimmers! -- 29th. There was some

:30:27. > :30:42.

:30:42. > :30:50.junior champion from three years ago. And here we have a Scozzoli.

:30:50. > :30:57.The European champion on his 50. In three, Commonwealth Games silver

:30:57. > :31:02.medallist, he never made a world championship final, Snyders. At 28,

:31:02. > :31:07.coming 29th on the 100, he's qualified second-fastest after the

:31:07. > :31:14.heats for the 50m breaststroke. How do you do that? Or I can think of

:31:14. > :31:24.the has just trained specifically for this during the her -- year.

:31:24. > :31:29.

:31:29. > :31:39.in the world championships six years ago. There's the European

:31:39. > :31:40.

:31:40. > :31:44.record holder. Felt there. -- Feldwehr. Have a skewer the water

:31:44. > :31:47.with their arms, they really throw their arms forward. He creates such

:31:47. > :31:51.a splash going forward with his arms, I can't help but think he's

:31:51. > :31:55.creating a bit of a drag for himself. You watch him, about

:31:55. > :32:00.another two metres of water goes beyond him. I think he probably

:32:00. > :32:10.needs to lift them out a bit more. Particularly when you are looking

:32:10. > :32:14.

:32:14. > :32:22.have to say about that. He's not a breaststroke swimmer. That's true,

:32:22. > :32:32.he's a real swimmer. I wonder if you will see market in the swimming

:32:32. > :33:06.

:33:06. > :33:12.50m breaststroke. All away cleanly back. Scozzoli has got it. The time

:33:12. > :33:17.is 27.37. Not too bad. A bit slower than I expect. The better than his

:33:17. > :33:20.heat. I think he had not a real Hanover, I think he was probably a

:33:20. > :33:24.little bit sluggish this morning was a maybe he didn't sleep so well

:33:24. > :33:32.last night. Maybe he didn't show his full pedigree this morning. A

:33:32. > :33:37.tad slower but I think that's enough. He got to 25 about three-

:33:37. > :33:41.quarters of a metre ahead and then everybody started coming back. Can

:33:41. > :33:46.you really die on a 50m breaststroke? You can tie up a

:33:46. > :33:50.little bit. It's that first one or two strokes, if you are flat out

:33:50. > :33:54.from the goal then your energy system is at 27 seconds, which

:33:54. > :33:58.suggests you can't go flat out. In the first stroke you probably need

:33:58. > :34:08.to go a bit easier, but Easy A is probably the wrong word. You have

:34:08. > :34:08.

:34:08. > :34:49.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:34:49. > :34:56.He's a big bloke. He's very strong. He's a specialist at 50m. Rickard,

:34:57. > :35:06.world record holder at 100m. only 5th here on the 100m. He held

:35:07. > :35:16.

:35:16. > :35:20.say he was rubbish at the 100, because he was 67th in the 100m two

:35:20. > :35:26.years ago, but I suppose he is in the world championships. Alexander

:35:26. > :35:36.Dale Oen, gold medallist last night. An emotional swim that was for him.

:35:36. > :36:02.

:36:02. > :36:07.Representing no way. Dale Oen record holder, Van Der Burgh. Two

:36:07. > :36:17.Slovenians in the top three qualifiers. Although his compatriot

:36:17. > :36:24.

:36:24. > :36:28.didn't do so well in that first defending champion. He got a

:36:28. > :36:38.slightly surprising bronze medal on the 100 breaststroke, but he is

:36:38. > :36:42.superb at this 50. Lane eight his closest to us, so lane six will be

:36:42. > :36:49.the bottom of your shop. There is the record holder, Van Der Burgh of

:36:49. > :36:59.South Africa. The fastest qualifier after the heats, da Silva, of

:36:59. > :37:15.

:37:15. > :37:20.Burgh. What a beautiful start that was. Look at his stroke as well. He

:37:20. > :37:26.really holds good water. Look in the centre, there is my Silver

:37:26. > :37:36.surfer. He gets a bit tired towards the end, he still going well,

:37:36. > :37:39.

:37:39. > :37:49.though. Van Der Burgh wins it. Dale Oen is third. 26.90 is an excellent

:37:49. > :37:49.

:37:49. > :37:53.swim from Van Der Burgh. That's fast. His world record, 26.67, set

:37:53. > :38:00.in the old suits. I think Van Der Burgh will be pretty happy about

:38:00. > :38:06.that. He looked very excited. thinking 27.50 would make the final

:38:06. > :38:16.but to break 27 in the semis is excellent. He hasn't raised da

:38:16. > :38:16.

:38:16. > :39:03.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:39:03. > :39:08.Silva very often, and da Silva just Alex, congratulations for last

:39:08. > :39:14.night. That was a very emotional win, wasn't it? Absolutely. It was

:39:14. > :39:19.a tough race and all the emotion came to the surface after I hit the

:39:19. > :39:24.wall. It was a tough day. You said you swam from your heart, that was

:39:24. > :39:30.that quota I heard. Absolutely. Yesterday was all about swimming

:39:30. > :39:37.with my heart and swimming for those back home. Maybe I should be

:39:37. > :39:40.a bit more tactical and save a bit on the first length but that's the

:39:40. > :39:44.way it goes sometimes. You won, that was what was important. And

:39:44. > :39:49.it's good to give everybody back home a bit of good news. It was. I

:39:49. > :39:54.was very satisfied with the race and the time. I got a lot of good

:39:54. > :39:58.comments from back home. I think they appreciated it. Alexander Dale

:39:58. > :40:02.Oen talking about his win yesterday in the 100m breaststroke. His into

:40:02. > :40:08.the final of the 50m breaststroke tomorrow. That is a strong field,

:40:08. > :40:10.all the usual suspects are there. Van Der Burgh was only about 0.23

:40:11. > :40:14.of the world record. At the time the world record was being broken

:40:14. > :40:20.in the suits, it was thought that would never be touched on again. He

:40:20. > :40:23.got very close to it. There is him, da Silva, Dale Oen, Scozzoli. It's

:40:23. > :40:28.one of these races, with breaststroke in particular because

:40:28. > :40:31.it's so technical and all about the timing, if you start brushing it,

:40:31. > :40:34.it's about being relaxed. Your adrenalin is going anywhere, so

:40:34. > :40:38.it's relax the first couple of strokes and then you build into

:40:38. > :40:42.that. When I swam butterfly, if I snatched the beginning it misses

:40:42. > :40:47.the whole race up and you tighten up. In turns of British

:40:47. > :40:51.breaststroke, Cameron Van Der Burgh nearly became British.

:40:52. > :40:57.grandparents are Scottish. What has happened to British press go? You

:40:57. > :41:03.think of the heritage of David Wilkie, Duncan Goodhew... Where did

:41:03. > :41:08.it go? We have always been good at it. Nick Gilliam, he was in those

:41:08. > :41:13.events as well. With Hannah Miley, you've got Siobhan Marite chasing

:41:13. > :41:17.Hannah Miley. If she gets to her or pizza, she's one of the best in the

:41:17. > :41:21.world. If you are chasing somebody and when you beat them you are 50th

:41:21. > :41:24.in the world, where is somebody to chasing your home environment?

:41:24. > :41:31.That's why people go to America, you are chasing some of the best

:41:31. > :41:35.swimmers in the world. You realise that these guys are exactly the

:41:35. > :41:38.same as you, they are trying the same way as you do, they might be a

:41:38. > :41:42.bit taller, wider, smaller. Basically, all athletes are the

:41:42. > :41:47.same. It's the ones who wanted more. Of course there are more talented

:41:47. > :41:51.athletes but you can make up for that with hard work as well. James

:41:51. > :41:56.Gibson was world champion in the 50 breaststroke in 2003. There is a

:41:56. > :42:00.heritage in breaststroke but at the moment it's not so good. I have to

:42:00. > :42:06.ask you, are you considering coming out of retirement for London?

:42:07. > :42:12.until today and then you happen to tell me that sitting on the couch

:42:12. > :42:16.talking about sport is better than doing it. You've blown it! I was

:42:16. > :42:19.going to come back! No, tomorrow I'm going to race in the Aquatics

:42:19. > :42:23.Centre at the Olympic park and we will see what will happen there.

:42:23. > :42:26.I'm not thinking about making a comeback. On the outside,

:42:26. > :42:30.everything looks great, on the inside I'm not sure what's

:42:30. > :42:34.happening. Inside there is a little kid and I'd love to do it for the

:42:34. > :42:38.rest of my life. Natalie Coughlin said the same. Being a sports

:42:38. > :42:42.person is the most wonderful thing. You do a game for your living.

:42:42. > :42:46.a shame for swimmers because on the tennis circuit and golf in

:42:46. > :42:49.particular, snooker you can go on for ever and ever, but golf and

:42:49. > :42:53.tennis you have the senior circuit but we don't have that for swimming.

:42:53. > :42:57.We do, but it's not quite as lucrative. I have done it once

:42:57. > :43:03.before and I broke a master's world record. It's about the money.

:43:03. > :43:07.starts at 25 and it goes in age groups. There are some master

:43:07. > :43:11.swimmers who swim at the age of 90. There are World Masters records.

:43:11. > :43:15.You could swim tomorrow. There's no qualifying times. If you want to

:43:15. > :43:19.swim and compete, you can. You have a lot of swimmers who gave up early

:43:19. > :43:22.in their career he may be want to keep swimming and keeping fit. We

:43:22. > :43:26.talked about the Big Splash, getting people in the water and

:43:26. > :43:32.letting them see the benefits of being in the water. Also giving

:43:32. > :43:37.them an opportunity to do something different. I might do the Masters.

:43:37. > :43:41.Right. If you want to see Mark swim a length of the Olympic swimming

:43:41. > :43:45.pool at the aquatic Centre, that's going to be happening tomorrow. We

:43:45. > :43:49.will be presenting a programme from 1pm until 3pm, then there is a

:43:49. > :43:53.special programme in the evening at 7:00pm on BBC One. That is all to

:43:53. > :43:56.mark exactly one year to go until the start of the Olympic Games.

:43:56. > :44:01.Let's move on to the longest race in the programme for women, the

:44:01. > :44:04.1500m. Oddly, it doesn't exist at the Olympics, but they do at the

:44:04. > :44:08.World Championships. Keri-Anne Payne failed to qualify for the

:44:08. > :44:13.final. She was gutted, but she said she did what she came here to do,

:44:13. > :44:17.which was qualified for the Olympics. She did that by winning

:44:17. > :44:27.the 10 K open water event. 30 lengths of the pool, two Chinese

:44:27. > :44:53.

:44:53. > :44:57.teenagers in this and the Danish from the gun. She's now just to

:44:57. > :45:02.nine-tenths of a second and the world record pace, having been

:45:02. > :45:07.almost two seconds under after 200m. She's broken the rest of the field.

:45:07. > :45:17.I wonder whether the Chinese woman in five, the 16-year-old, went off

:45:17. > :45:22.

:45:22. > :45:29.a bit too quickly and is now other. It is very similar to

:45:29. > :45:36.cycling. For Kate Ziegler to make daybreak, it is a very difficult

:45:36. > :45:45.thing to do. -- to make a break. I think Lotte Friis has made a

:45:45. > :45:54.supreme effort to slow up a lot. She has dropped and I think she

:45:54. > :46:01.will struggle. She needs to inject some sort of pace here. I am not

:46:01. > :46:06.sure whether she can get the world record now. It is difficult

:46:06. > :46:16.swimming on your own. I think she would find it easier if someone was

:46:16. > :46:17.

:46:17. > :46:21.the next to her. For the world record. Has to be pretty good!

:46:21. > :46:29.needs to get back down if she is going to break the world record.

:46:29. > :46:39.Lotte Friis is over first. Kate Ziegler has now taken over in the

:46:39. > :46:43.

:46:43. > :46:51.second position in lane 3. We have Kristel Kobrich of Chile in the 6th.

:46:51. > :46:56.Lotte Friis does look good. It will make an interesting head-to-head.

:46:56. > :47:04.It will be a good practice for 2012. That will be a cracking final in

:47:04. > :47:14.the east end of London. What a stunning as when it was in Beijing.

:47:14. > :47:17.

:47:17. > :47:25.It looks like Kate Ziegler is trying to bridge the gap. Lotte

:47:25. > :47:35.Friis has dropped off. I think she might have an effort to win. It is

:47:35. > :47:44.

:47:44. > :47:52.coming up to halfway. That is the halfway turn in the 1500m freestyle.

:47:52. > :47:57.This is the 800 turner. Lotte Friis is just off world record pace.

:47:57. > :48:07.has dropped off significantly. Kate Ziegler is behind her and chasing

:48:07. > :48:13.

:48:13. > :48:23.her. She is just dropping down to 64. Kate Ziegler has only one tenth

:48:23. > :48:25.

:48:25. > :48:35.of a second on her. What is interesting is that that was an

:48:35. > :48:36.

:48:36. > :48:43.8.23. She could get a medal. There is another 700 to go and I bet the

:48:43. > :48:53.other women are a little bit worried. Rebecca Adlington did not

:48:53. > :48:56.

:48:56. > :49:04.do that great. Different training. A nice blue lane. I am never seen

:49:04. > :49:12.that before! That is just in case you cannot see that she is in that

:49:12. > :49:22.lane. Lotte Friis is in first and Kate Ziegler in seven -- second. We

:49:22. > :49:27.have the Asian Games champion, the 17-year-old, and right next to her

:49:27. > :49:37.his Kristel Kobrich. This could be the second Chinese woman looking

:49:37. > :49:41.

:49:41. > :49:50.good. Lotte Friis is over first. I wonder if Kate Ziegler is starting

:49:50. > :49:57.to come back a little bit. It looks like that but it can be deceptive.

:49:57. > :50:07.They have both gone up a little bit. Kate Ziegler looks as though she is

:50:07. > :50:21.

:50:21. > :50:27.trying to bridge the gap. 10 to go. This is looking very good indeed.

:50:27. > :50:36.Lotte Friis is leading. Kate Ziegler of the USA has two gold

:50:36. > :50:42.medals in this event are ready. Two championships in 2005 and 2007. She

:50:42. > :50:52.is just going the other way. Lotte Friis is leading. Kate Ziegler his

:50:52. > :51:00.second. The bronze medal fight will be a heck of a scrap. Our pictures

:51:00. > :51:10.are not showing that there are two Chinese women who could well get

:51:10. > :51:11.

:51:11. > :51:19.that bronze medal. Two years ago at Rome in the world championships

:51:19. > :51:25.Lotte Friis got the silver. This looks a really good indeed. It

:51:25. > :51:35.looked like Kate Ziegler was catching but I am not so sure.

:51:35. > :51:35.

:51:36. > :51:45.will not be enough. It is a good race. You mentioned the two women

:51:46. > :51:49.

:51:49. > :51:57.on the outside lanes. Kerri-Anne Payne did not make the final. It is

:51:57. > :52:07.hard to do on the open water. I think I would just do the one.

:52:07. > :52:11.

:52:11. > :52:21.would not do any! Kerri-Anne Payne won the Open water but did not make

:52:21. > :52:29.the final heat. I suppose in 2012 that the swimming pool will come

:52:29. > :52:34.first and then the Open water afterwards. Kerri-Anne Payne had

:52:34. > :52:42.just one down the coast. A brilliant swimmer. She won it by

:52:42. > :52:48.nearly two seconds, which is comfortable enough, but was

:52:48. > :52:56.uncomfortable the last time inside the metres. She has got carry at --

:52:56. > :53:02.Britain's only gold medal so far. At the moment Lotte Friis from

:53:02. > :53:12.Denmark is looking very good indeed. There are four lengths to go at the

:53:12. > :53:13.

:53:13. > :53:20.end of this 50 metres. Lotte Friis, barring any massive mistake, she is

:53:20. > :53:24.looking superb and like she might take the gold medal. 200 metres to

:53:24. > :53:34.go. Lotte Friis of Denmark is a leading. Kate Ziegler of the USA in

:53:34. > :53:40.second. No one is surely going to catch Lotte Friis. She is a big

:53:40. > :53:46.threat to Rebecca Adlington on the freestyle. It is a phenomenal race

:53:46. > :53:52.here. She knew she had a field that was capable of similar times. Kate

:53:52. > :53:59.Ziegler is a world record holder. You can see that she is above and

:53:59. > :54:03.eating away at the pace. She is a little bit quicker than Lotte Friis.

:54:03. > :54:13.But Lotte Friis has taken about half a second. I think she has

:54:13. > :54:16.

:54:16. > :54:26.given up on the chase. Lotte Friis is being cheered. There has been a

:54:26. > :54:32.

:54:32. > :54:36.great battle for the bronze. 100 metres to go. Lotte Friis has

:54:36. > :54:45.really gone for it right from the start. The silver medal looks like

:54:45. > :54:55.it will go to Kate Ziegler. Bronze could possibly be down in lane

:54:55. > :55:01.

:55:01. > :55:06.seven to Li Xuanxu. Kate Ziegler over second. She was a world

:55:06. > :55:15.champion in 2005 and 2007 but she cannot keep up at Lotte Friis of

:55:15. > :55:18.Denmark. Superb swim. The Chinese rising there and they are cheering.

:55:18. > :55:28.So Lotte Friis will be world champion on defecting hundred metre

:55:28. > :55:35.women's freestyle. -- on the 1500m women's freestyle. The Selmar medal

:55:35. > :55:45.goes to Kate Ziegler -- the silver medal goes to Kate Ziegler and the

:55:45. > :56:00.

:56:00. > :56:05.suppose she did not hear the bell. There is the world's champion.

:56:05. > :56:11.wonder how much faster she will be able to go. -- the world champion.

:56:11. > :56:20.I wonder what Rebecca Adlington is thinking right now. Rebecca

:56:20. > :56:30.Adlington has had a target on a back since Beijing. Lotte Friis did

:56:30. > :56:32.

:56:32. > :56:41.not hang around. I think she knew that she had to have a go. Shao

:56:41. > :56:51.Yiwen came in eight in the end. It was a big lesson learned. -- are

:56:51. > :57:05.

:57:05. > :57:13.8th in the end. World champion, Congratulations. Was the world

:57:13. > :57:17.record in your sights? You always dream up the world record. But I

:57:17. > :57:24.think the main goal was just to win it and get as close as possible to

:57:24. > :57:27.my time from Rome. It is a fantastic medal and sets you up for

:57:27. > :57:37.a good head-to-head with Rebecca Adlington. Yes, I hope so. I think

:57:37. > :57:41.

:57:41. > :57:51.we will have a good race. Well done. The Reagan Pullar greeny will also

:57:51. > :57:56.

:57:56. > :58:02.be in the mix. -- via Riga Pullar grainy will also be in the next.

:58:02. > :58:08.There will also be Melissa Gorman and Erika Villaecija Garcia. They

:58:08. > :58:14.can go from 10 kilometres down to 1,500 metres. People say to me,

:58:14. > :58:18.because you can swim, why do you not to the Channel? If I got ashore

:58:18. > :58:24.I would be out of my depth. Your body is trained to do different

:58:24. > :58:29.things. There is a difference between Rebecca Adlington and Lotte

:58:29. > :58:37.Friis in what they can do. I was concerned about Kristel Kobrich who

:58:37. > :58:45.did not understand she was on the last length. She turned and carried

:58:45. > :58:49.on. She is just coming in. Here she comes. And she turns. Her finishing

:58:49. > :58:58.time would have been given from her feet. Wouldn't that have been

:58:58. > :59:03.awful? It did not count because you touched it with your hand. I think

:59:03. > :59:12.she was in third and the other one sprinted past her. There is a bell

:59:12. > :59:18.that they chime with two minutes to go. They want to pace its for every

:59:18. > :59:28.hundred metres. They ring a bell with two laps to go. She did not

:59:28. > :59:32.win at Belle. I had done that before. I mentioned earlier that

:59:32. > :59:35.Mark and I will be at the aquatic Centre tomorrow afternoon

:59:35. > :59:45.presenting from there and that is hopefully where we will be in one

:59:45. > :59:52.

:59:52. > :00:02.year. Where will you be in when Constantly twisting and turning.

:00:02. > :00:12.

:00:12. > :00:20.That is the date of the opening ceremony. We will be at the aquatic

:00:20. > :00:30.Centre tomorrow with coverage from Shanghai at 1pm and 11 for those

:00:30. > :00:31.

:00:31. > :00:38.Very important for all those athletes who are hopeful of getting

:00:38. > :00:43.a place or know they are there, to already be blocking time, I guess.

:00:43. > :00:47.The Olympics his every minority sports dream. Its once every four

:00:47. > :00:51.macro years. Your long-term goal is once every four macro years, but

:00:51. > :00:56.every year we have the world championships, Commonwealth Games,

:00:56. > :00:59.European Championships. Every year you have a championship but every

:00:59. > :01:03.athlete's dream is the Olympics. After the last Olympics the

:01:03. > :01:08.athletes would have gone off, had a holiday, had a break. But it would

:01:08. > :01:12.have been in their mind, 2012. Everybody is talking about it.

:01:12. > :01:18.People have even said to Becky Adlington, you've qualified for

:01:18. > :01:22.2012? She said no, I have to do trials in April. The mindset is all

:01:22. > :01:25.geared towards the Olympics. Even in the papers today, big

:01:25. > :01:29.photographs of various sports stars or bland up. The Swan of these

:01:30. > :01:34.things, you look at that and when we see the performance that goes on

:01:34. > :01:38.in the pool, it's interesting to say that what people don't realise

:01:38. > :01:42.is there are four years of hard pain and graft in the pool and the

:01:42. > :01:46.gym, as we found out from Liam Tancock doing ballet. What people

:01:46. > :01:50.only ever see is the moment, the event itself, but there's a lot of

:01:50. > :01:53.things behind the scenes that go into making that happen. We talked

:01:53. > :01:58.about getting the balance right, but for swimmers in particular, who

:01:58. > :02:03.do not earn huge amounts of money, OK, Phelps is on a lot because of

:02:03. > :02:06.sponsorship deals, but your average swimmer in this country... A lot of

:02:06. > :02:13.them are on lottery funding. Depending on what your world

:02:13. > :02:20.ranking is, there is A, B, C funding. It's along those lines.

:02:20. > :02:26.There will be 30, 20, 10. 30,000, 20,000... A yes. I and there's no

:02:26. > :02:32.prize money for the World Championships, is there?

:02:32. > :02:36.Working towards the point that you can see why it's very attractive to

:02:36. > :02:39.take... You are offered a big deal to do an advertising gig, we wanted

:02:39. > :02:43.to be the face of what ever. You take it because it's one of your

:02:43. > :02:46.few opportunities to earn money. But with only a year to go you need

:02:46. > :02:51.to have done all of that. Absolutely. Talking to Becky and

:02:51. > :02:56.her agent, what she has done is she is in huge demand. Chris Hoy,

:02:56. > :02:58.Jessica Ennis, they have to be careful. They tried to sign up

:02:58. > :03:02.three or four macro big sponsors and within each of those they do

:03:02. > :03:08.eight-to- 10 days for a photo-shoot, turning up at that company's

:03:08. > :03:14.offices. They need to be careful in that year that there are 20 days

:03:14. > :03:17.when they can't train as much as usual. They won't let it interfere.

:03:17. > :03:21.You have to be very well guided in turns of taking advice for that.

:03:21. > :03:25.The other problem for swimmers is you don't -- they don't get a lot

:03:25. > :03:28.of face time. You don't really see them without their hats and goggles.

:03:29. > :03:33.So we try to show you the personality behind the swimmer, so

:03:33. > :03:38.let's do that with Liam Tancock. For me, it doesn't really affect

:03:38. > :03:42.how other people perceive me. I class myself as a 100m swim a who's

:03:42. > :03:46.got a pretty decent 50m as well. I like to mix of strokes, and not

:03:46. > :03:53.just backstroke. I do mix it up in the freestyle events sometimes and

:03:53. > :03:57.even the medley events. Am a bit of here or there, but my main focus is

:03:57. > :04:00.definitely the 100 backstroke. you had to put all your eggs in a

:04:00. > :04:05.basket because it's an Olympic event? It's been an Olympic event

:04:05. > :04:08.ever since I've been born. But it's always been there. The 50 hasn't

:04:08. > :04:12.been an Allan Peet event. Pretty much always that's been my main

:04:12. > :04:17.focus, the 100m backstroke. That's where my training has been focused

:04:17. > :04:22.as well. The 50 is almost a by- product of the person I am, the

:04:22. > :04:27.power I produce, the natural speed I've got. Almost my bonus event.

:04:27. > :04:32.How has your training change in the past couple of years? I think I've

:04:32. > :04:35.been on a steady progression since around 2003, when I first came up

:04:35. > :04:39.to Loughborough. It's been a steady progression, always getting better

:04:39. > :04:45.and stronger. Always looking for new things to improve both in and

:04:45. > :04:48.out of the pool. Whether that's training focused or nutritionally

:04:48. > :04:52.or just looking after myself. I think everything is slowly

:04:52. > :04:55.improving, everything's getting slightly better. You've seen that

:04:55. > :05:00.over the years and the progression through the major events at been

:05:00. > :05:03.too. Does that mean we haven't seen the best of you yet? I'd like to

:05:03. > :05:06.think so, yes. That's why I'm looking forward to going out to the

:05:06. > :05:12.world championships and why I'm still in the sport. I love to race

:05:12. > :05:22.and I always want to beat what I've previously done. That's a general

:05:22. > :05:41.

:05:41. > :05:51.will for most sports people, not crowd will be Gareth Kean, the 19-

:05:51. > :05:57.

:05:57. > :06:01.from New Zealand. 5th at the Commonwealth Games in the 100m

:06:02. > :06:09.backstroke. He did very well to make this final. 5th in the

:06:09. > :06:19.Commonwealth and now eighth in the world. In lane one, not a bad lane.

:06:19. > :06:55.

:06:55. > :07:05.Liam Tancock of Great Britain. Here Americans. They either got guys on

:07:05. > :07:14.

:07:14. > :07:23.form this time or they haven't. Lacourt is on form. European

:07:23. > :07:29.champion, European record holder. This guy, Irie. He is the second

:07:29. > :07:39.fastest Japanese on paper. The fastest man, Koga, didn't make it

:07:39. > :07:49.

:07:49. > :07:59.medallist, Stravius of France. Liam Tancock will be right at the top of

:07:59. > :08:02.

:08:02. > :08:06.that shot in the blue hat of Great Really slow stroke. I wonder if his

:08:06. > :08:11.stroke is maybe a little too slow for the 100. I think you are right.

:08:11. > :08:18.He's probably a lot better at the 200. I think Stravius and Le Corps,

:08:18. > :08:28.they are the ones to beat. -- Lacourt. Tancock will be bashing it

:08:28. > :08:59.

:08:59. > :09:09.they're very close to that 15 metre mark. If you go past it you are

:09:09. > :09:45.

:09:45. > :09:49.taking the race out. Tancock have a gold. Tied for gold for France. No

:09:49. > :09:52.French man has ever won the gold medal in the swimming pool in the

:09:52. > :10:02.world championships. I don't know if that counts as two, but those

:10:02. > :10:02.

:10:02. > :10:12.guys thinks -- think it does. That's a fantastic result. Nobody

:10:12. > :10:17.

:10:17. > :10:25.ever predicted that! What do you do gold medal and we've certainly

:10:25. > :10:32.never had a French one, two. Does that count as one, two? No, it's

:10:32. > :10:41.one, one. I'm surprised at the court. I thought he had it here

:10:41. > :10:51.with that. They are out of sync. Stravius goes in for the dive and

:10:51. > :11:17.

:11:17. > :11:27.close, for a second I thought he was going to get the bronze. That

:11:27. > :11:42.

:11:43. > :11:47.is Stravius... Which equalled his We thought you were going to get at

:11:47. > :11:51.bronze. The air, I went for it. I didn't quite pull it off this time

:11:51. > :11:55.but I'm pleased with the progression through the rounds. Six

:11:55. > :12:01.per in the world isn't too bad. often done well from the outside

:12:01. > :12:06.lane. Is there a tactic? The 50 is your strong event. The yes, that's

:12:06. > :12:10.at the end of the week. In the 100, it's such a strong field out there.

:12:10. > :12:14.The medals could have come from any lanes. It's all about getting

:12:14. > :12:21.through the rounds. I made it into the final, moved up a couple of

:12:21. > :12:24.places. I'm thrilled. How often do we see that sort of result? It's

:12:24. > :12:29.pretty fantastic for the French guys there. Top of the podium for

:12:29. > :12:34.them both. World-class time. you going to take them on in the

:12:34. > :12:38.50? Definitely. I love racing against the best guys was a bad got

:12:38. > :12:41.a couple of days' rest now and the 50 is at the end.

:12:41. > :12:48.The eggs reflect on Liam Tancock. There isn't that much improvement

:12:48. > :12:51.he needs to make to be a contender in the Olympics. The know, he's

:12:51. > :12:56.0.27 of bronze there. The French guys have been fast-improving Anbar

:12:56. > :13:01.new on the scene. If you look at their body shapes, they are both

:13:01. > :13:07.about 6 ft 5, 6 ft 7. They go a little bit further. If you watch

:13:07. > :13:11.Liam, he has an incredible turnover. He comes from the 50 going up. The

:13:11. > :13:15.other swimmers come from the 200 going down. He is out their third

:13:15. > :13:19.at the 50, he just needs a bit more at the back end. He knows exactly

:13:19. > :13:24.what he has to do. He knows he's a 50 swimmer but the focus has always

:13:24. > :13:29.been on the 100m. People were saying he was sick. In Britain, we

:13:29. > :13:33.always expect and expect from people but that's not a bad result.

:13:33. > :13:40.It's so rare to see a dead heat for gold. And even rarer for them both

:13:40. > :13:45.to be from the same nation, France. The court had the better touch. --

:13:45. > :13:51.Lacourt. You see Stravius gliding there, reaching. He lost pace.

:13:51. > :13:59.you look at that at the end, if you were to go where their heads were,

:13:59. > :14:02.were caught was a tiny bit ahead. But Stravius has the longer arm.

:14:02. > :14:06.Stravius polled the tie out of the end. Looking at going in, I would

:14:06. > :14:11.have said he was going to come second. And it's worth having a

:14:11. > :14:19.look at the medals as well. Foot two Frenchman to be stepping up

:14:19. > :14:29.their together. What a great celebration there will be in France.

:14:29. > :14:35.Good for them. You remember a dead heat. The Olympics, 50 freestyle.

:14:35. > :14:41.There was Gary Hall Junior and Anthony Irvine. You don't see it

:14:41. > :14:46.very often. It's very rare. they can both call themselves world

:14:46. > :14:50.champions. Indeed. The there are no British swimmers in the semi-finals

:14:50. > :14:54.of the women's 200 metre freestyle because Becky Adlington and Jo

:14:54. > :14:58.Jackson, Jo finished fourth in the final two years ago, they finished

:14:58. > :15:02.only 23rd and 24th in the heats this morning. With the reaction to

:15:02. > :15:08.that and the general mood in the British camp, here is anti and

:15:08. > :15:18.Sharon. So that's Becky and Jo out of the

:15:18. > :15:22.

:15:22. > :15:29.freestyle. It wasn't a great day. Jo Jackson has not been well. For

:15:29. > :15:36.she has quite -- she has had quite a lot of what retraining and she

:15:36. > :15:41.has had a chance to fight hard. Not break from her. I do not know what

:15:41. > :15:44.happened with Rebecca Adlington and I do not think she knows. She was

:15:44. > :15:52.wanting to practise her Olympic programme here but it did not

:15:52. > :16:01.happen. She has not even made semi- final. I wonder if she will drop

:16:01. > :16:07.the 200. She is Olympic champion on the 400. She has great speed for

:16:07. > :16:14.the 400. She just did not look good. She is still the world record

:16:14. > :16:20.holder but not a great morning. you think the momentum in the

:16:20. > :16:28.British team is beginning to take a nosedive? It certainly did today. I

:16:28. > :16:37.think Rebecca's 400 was a good but today was not good momentum wise.

:16:37. > :16:41.Michael Brock was lucky. He has qualified so he has a good shot.

:16:41. > :16:46.Something could happen this evening but I am not sure it is the best

:16:46. > :16:51.day today. Things could happen still. Let's get a reaction from

:16:51. > :17:00.Michael Scott and see what he thinks of the mood in the camp and

:17:00. > :17:05.the conditions of the swimmers. Are things going to plan at the moment?

:17:06. > :17:15.We are in some areas of Arequipa Foreman's areas and in some areas

:17:15. > :17:23.we are ahead. -- Arequipa four mins areas. We had top 16 places in

:17:23. > :17:28.Olympic events in Rome. We are getting a lot of people in two

:17:28. > :17:32.finals and semi-finals and we have a lot more swimming to do and more

:17:32. > :17:36.opportunities to get people on the podium. You always have your

:17:36. > :17:42.successes or disappointments at any major event but overall we are

:17:42. > :17:45.satisfied right now. performance director of British

:17:45. > :17:54.swimming there. I think it would be a little bit early to stick the

:17:54. > :17:59.boot in. We expect so much from certain people, like from a bad

:17:59. > :18:09.Adlington -- Rebecca Adlington. This is not horse racing. People do

:18:09. > :18:10.

:18:10. > :18:18.not do that sort of change up. We touched on the semi-finals in Rome

:18:18. > :18:27.two years ago. I think these are encouraging signs. There are

:18:27. > :18:36.encouraging signs, a not all doom and gloom. And Jo Jackson not

:18:36. > :18:40.making the semi-finals, she has had a bad year. Yes. She is pounding up

:18:40. > :18:45.and down the pool and could not train as hard as she needed to

:18:45. > :18:50.because she could not get a breath. They have got it under control but

:18:50. > :18:59.it takes time to get back to your best. It is not just coughing from

:18:59. > :19:05.asthma but it also takes time mentally. This gives her more time

:19:05. > :19:15.to prepare for the 800 but she will be keeping a keen eye on this.

:19:15. > :19:27.

:19:27. > :19:37.Federica Pellegrini is in the 200. freestyle and if Federica

:19:37. > :19:39.

:19:39. > :19:49.Pellegrini goes in lane work. -- lane four. Here we have the slowest

:19:49. > :19:51.

:19:52. > :20:01.qualifier after the heats. The finest in the European juniors. She

:20:02. > :20:02.

:20:02. > :20:08.is from Hungary. Sarah Sjostrom was only for here on the fly but has

:20:08. > :20:18.stepped up to freestyle and I wonder if she will look towards a

:20:18. > :20:20.

:20:20. > :20:30.200 some time. Laurence Boyle from New Zealand, they are doing well

:20:30. > :20:31.

:20:31. > :20:41.right now. Famke Heemskerk took the heat out very quickly. Almost the

:20:41. > :20:48.

:20:48. > :20:52.opposite to farm cat -- Federica Pellegrini. Now we have at the

:20:52. > :20:58.second highest qualifying for this semi-final. She is a world champion

:20:58. > :21:05.and world record holder. It is Federica Pellegrini. She is the

:21:05. > :21:15.fastest qualifier for this first semi-final. Only second fastest

:21:15. > :21:25.after the heats though. She was a gold and silver medallist in

:21:25. > :21:43.

:21:43. > :21:51.Beijing. She got the gold on the Bullet hats of Federica Pellegrini

:21:51. > :22:01.4th up for she has a lot -- Federica Pellegrini. She does not

:22:01. > :22:01.

:22:01. > :22:11.do a slow very well, does she? has got to do enough to stay ahead.

:22:11. > :22:16.The Swedish fly swimmer has gone out well. Very good poet greeny --

:22:16. > :22:25.Federica Pellegrini has had 59 on the second one. She is in the top

:22:25. > :22:31.yellow lane. This could tie up. I would be surprised if she held the

:22:31. > :22:41.world record today. I think this is bizarre. I think Federica

:22:41. > :22:49.Pellegrini has just seen the swimmer ahead of her. You know that

:22:49. > :22:59.some swimmers do that. You think you are the best in the world but

:22:59. > :23:01.

:23:01. > :23:08.you should have the confidence to catch up. Famke Heemskerk still

:23:08. > :23:13.looks a very good. This is bizarre. There is all sorts of stuff. Barry

:23:13. > :23:23.go Paola greeny may still win. -- Gary gab pallor grainy may still

:23:23. > :23:35.

:23:35. > :23:42.Famke Heemskerk will win it. Famke Heemskerk wins in an extraordinary

:23:42. > :23:51.fashion. She looks well. It is a fantastic swim. The best time by a

:23:51. > :23:58.second. Utterly bizarre way to swim. I knew she would do that but I've

:23:58. > :24:06.never seen her pull it off. Famke Heemskerk won it. Look at the bat

:24:06. > :24:16.high elbow. A beautiful stretch right in front. Strong technique

:24:16. > :24:22.

:24:22. > :24:32.right till the end. Federica Pellegrini was merely one second

:24:32. > :24:33.

:24:43. > :24:45.

:24:45. > :24:54.is the cross -- fastest qualifier after the heats. Kylie Palmer got

:24:54. > :25:01.dragged through to a leaf and thyme. -- decent time. The Hon Lady

:25:01. > :25:11.Chinese women to get through the heats in the women's 200 freestyle.

:25:37. > :25:47.lanes 7. Camilla from France has a strange stroke. Our swimmer from

:25:47. > :25:48.

:25:48. > :25:55.Germany has a very high elbows. The Australians sandwich here. Kylie

:25:55. > :26:05.Palmer in three. Her partner is in five. The American Allison Schmidt

:26:05. > :26:05.

:26:05. > :26:15.is in brief. -- said in. As an Schmidt is coming out. She

:26:15. > :26:33.

:26:33. > :26:43.win but you need to make sure you are quick in the top three if you

:26:43. > :26:54.

:26:54. > :27:04.want to place. The second semi- fastest qualifier and the slowest

:27:04. > :27:10.

:27:10. > :27:20.off the blocks. She swims out of 0 Bolton were end is coached out --

:27:20. > :27:36.

:27:36. > :27:43.- one hundredth. You have to look at every detail when training. It

:27:43. > :27:53.is about every single thing. The reaction from the gun going to your

:27:53. > :27:54.

:27:54. > :28:02.feet are moving off the block. It was unusual for the Australians. I

:28:02. > :28:12.thought they would be further ahead. The rest of the field has not been

:28:12. > :28:12.

:28:12. > :28:18.dropped at all. We have the 17- year-old from Germany in lane 7. I

:28:18. > :28:22.expected Allison Schmidt to go quicker than this. She was going

:28:22. > :28:32.into her halfway turn. They will be interesting to see how she ends up.

:28:32. > :28:35.

:28:35. > :28:44.She does not look that good in the centre. I think one Abbey's winners

:28:44. > :28:52.will -- one of these will miss off if they are not careful.

:28:52. > :28:57.Australians now. It looks very Claire split -- close now. Alison

:28:57. > :29:07.Schmidt has finished in 5th position. Kylie Palmer has won the

:29:07. > :29:12.

:29:12. > :29:19.gold. It was tight, wasn't it? poor start from Allison. She looked

:29:19. > :29:25.so good this morning. She never really got going. The wheels came

:29:25. > :29:35.off. I think she is playing with the pacing. I think it had her to

:29:35. > :29:44.

:29:44. > :29:53.go out so closely. I think Alison will just make it. That was a much

:29:53. > :29:59.quicker semi-final. I think Allison has made it in and has sneaked in

:29:59. > :30:09.as a qualifier. She is clearly have a second ahead of a 9th place.

:30:09. > :30:18.

:30:18. > :30:26.There are the qualifiers. Federica Heemskerk and Pellegrini are very

:30:26. > :30:32.different types of the swimmers. Yes. Heemskerk will lead it out.

:30:32. > :30:36.You saw that first semi-final. I've never seen that before. Someone

:30:36. > :30:40.never goes out... If you go out that hard you generally tyre at the

:30:40. > :30:44.end. It will be the tortoise and the hair in that race. Its tactics

:30:44. > :30:49.which are so important. I would imagine it's so important, if

:30:49. > :30:53.adrenalin is a huge factor, which it is, you will sometimes go faster

:30:53. > :30:58.than your mind will tell you. seen someone in a lot of pain have

:30:58. > :31:05.got completely carried away. You see it more in butterfly. When you

:31:05. > :31:08.go on butterfly you really sink. In training, especially Pellegrini, a

:31:08. > :31:14.distance athlete will do a lot of interval training where it's done

:31:14. > :31:18.at pace rate. Short rests, longer rests. She is a pace swimmer. Long-

:31:18. > :31:22.distance swimmers and runners are all about pace, where sprinting is

:31:22. > :31:25.all about speed. You've got Heemskerk who goes from doing speed,

:31:25. > :31:30.going up to an event which is all about pacing. It will be

:31:30. > :31:36.interesting to see how well she gets it all doesn't get it. I'd go

:31:36. > :31:40.on Pellegrini. Looking at the butterfly, we are about to see the

:31:40. > :31:45.men's 200m semi-finals. Michael Phelps will be in the second one of

:31:45. > :31:51.them. When was the last time that Michael Phelps got into day three

:31:51. > :31:56.your day four without getting a gold medal? Probably just when he

:31:56. > :32:01.learned to swim. I've never seen it at a Championships. The only time

:32:01. > :32:06.you ever saw where Michael Phelps didn't win a medal was in the

:32:06. > :32:12.Sydney Olympics. He came fourth in the 200 butterfly, but he was 15.

:32:12. > :32:18.We've got to give him a break there. This 200 butterfly, this is his

:32:18. > :32:25.thing. His main event. If you look at the 200 freestyle against Lochte,

:32:25. > :32:30.I would say that his main event was the 200 fly. Then you have to look

:32:30. > :32:35.at the 200 medley and the 400 medley. Then you go to the 200 free.

:32:35. > :32:40.That is probably Michael Phelps' ball best event. It's not Lochte's

:32:40. > :32:48.best event either, but it's the one that would really heard him if he

:32:48. > :32:55.lost it. He's been dominant in it You will see him in the second

:32:55. > :33:00.semi-final. In the first semi is Britain's Michael Rock.

:33:00. > :33:07.Two bites of the cherry out in Shanghai, where do you put your

:33:07. > :33:10.best chances? I'll be honest, I like both events. The 100 is really

:33:10. > :33:16.important to me, it gives me that special opportunity to join up with

:33:16. > :33:20.the other lads. And hopefully I will compete in the medley relay on

:33:20. > :33:25.the last day, which is always the most exciting event, great to be

:33:25. > :33:30.part of. But my focus this cycle has been more on the 200. That's

:33:31. > :33:35.normally what I trained for. I'm going to go there on day three. It

:33:35. > :33:38.will be my first race out there and I will hopefully put in a great

:33:38. > :33:46.performance and give it my best shot. Do you like the opportunity

:33:46. > :33:52.of going up against Michael Phelps? Yep, it's fantastic. He has set the

:33:52. > :33:56.standard as the most successful winner ever to grace a pole. --

:33:56. > :34:06.pool. We've got to catch him up somehow. His achievements are

:34:06. > :34:23.

:34:23. > :34:30.fantastic. It only ever inspires me Rock's turns. He has really worked

:34:30. > :34:33.on that and improved it. I think he got his pacing wrong. Hopefully

:34:33. > :34:38.this second chance, he's going to make it count. I think he probably

:34:38. > :34:42.needs to adapt a little bit with his turns and pacing. If he can do

:34:42. > :34:49.that, there is a good chance he can make the final. Steve Parry made it

:34:49. > :34:54.before. That was in Athens. Yes, he did. Michael Rock being introduced

:34:54. > :35:00.to the crowd. 16th fastest after the heats. Quite extraordinary, he

:35:00. > :35:10.was eighth in his heat and still made it through to the semi-final.

:35:10. > :35:45.

:35:45. > :35:55.Our Leader of Brazil in lane one. - three. -- Chen. The second one has

:35:55. > :36:11.

:36:11. > :36:16.looking for for the top eight if I was one of these guys. I think you

:36:16. > :36:26.are right, I think in the second semi there are quite a few of them

:36:26. > :36:52.

:36:52. > :36:57.entered the water are relatively close to the blocks. Maybe he might

:36:57. > :37:00.want to dive a little bit further away. He was much too fast out in

:37:00. > :37:04.the first 100 this morning. He's going much easier at the bottom of

:37:04. > :37:09.the picture. He's got to work on his pace there. I think he's doing

:37:09. > :37:13.the exact opposite now. It's the semi-final and probably would have

:37:13. > :37:20.toned it down. Let's hope he's got something left. Good turns, good

:37:20. > :37:30.and the water. Right at the top, lane one, the exact opposite lane,

:37:30. > :37:55.

:37:55. > :38:01.Surely this was too fast. He looks too quickly here. The rest of the

:38:01. > :38:04.field really well spread out. might be one of those semi-finals

:38:04. > :38:14.where only one or two people qualified. I'm looking at the pace,

:38:14. > :38:20.

:38:20. > :38:30.you are right, he's doing a pretty he's looking pretty strong. His

:38:30. > :38:53.

:38:53. > :38:58.timing is slightly out. He kicks USA is second. It wasn't that fast.

:38:58. > :39:06.I thought that was quite a slow semi. Michael Rock on the wrong end

:39:06. > :39:16.of it, he was last. He will be very disappointed with that. That nearly

:39:16. > :39:16.

:39:16. > :39:21.two seconds slower than this morning. He's off! The rest of the

:39:21. > :39:31.field is still in the water and he's picked up his pass and is off

:39:31. > :39:37.

:39:37. > :39:44.a very good discipline because you don't use any energy going up and

:39:44. > :39:54.down, just use your energy to go forward. Phelps swims with his

:39:54. > :40:04.

:40:04. > :40:07.Michael, that's not like you, we know what you are capable of doing.

:40:07. > :40:15.I like to think so. I work really hard for this meet, work really

:40:15. > :40:18.well with my coach and the squad. I thought we could have produced

:40:18. > :40:23.something better. I've not had a great few days, not been well. I've

:40:23. > :40:27.just got to go away, work hard together again and hopefully we can

:40:27. > :40:31.turn it around next time. We know that a tummy bug has struck down

:40:31. > :40:39.two of you. It wipes you out, no energy. There's a few more in the

:40:39. > :40:43.team who have had it and managed to get through. It's just part of it,

:40:43. > :40:53.another challenge. As a team, hopefully we can rise to it in the

:40:53. > :41:17.

:41:17. > :41:27.crowd. Only 15th fastest qualifier after the heats. Very unusual

:41:27. > :41:31.

:41:31. > :41:41.believe he's got to go into lane seven. I wonder if he knows his

:41:41. > :41:52.

:41:52. > :41:56.2005 on this event. Le Clos, at the Commonwealth Games he turned out a

:41:56. > :42:02.bit like a server, had his goggles round his neck at the presentation,

:42:02. > :42:07.as if life was easy. Matsuda. He's been told if he wins this race he

:42:07. > :42:15.can go straight to-2012. I think you'll find that very hard. This is

:42:15. > :42:18.an interesting one. Biczo, the junior champion. He swims it really

:42:18. > :42:25.bizarrely. We will have a look at his stroke when we get into the

:42:25. > :42:33.race. Jukic was the fastest qualifier out of all of the heats

:42:33. > :42:39.of the men's 200 fly. Olympic champion, world record holder,

:42:39. > :42:45.Michael Phelps. He's the defending world champion on the 200 fly.

:42:45. > :42:55.Sixth fastest qualifier for this semi-final. An outsider in his Peng

:42:55. > :43:20.

:43:20. > :43:30.Wu. 7 and 8, there might be a 200m butterfly. Very good start

:43:30. > :43:42.

:43:42. > :43:52.make any mistake with this one. Great underwater, very relaxed. His

:43:52. > :43:57.

:43:57. > :44:07.hips can bend more than some quickly. Good motivation, if you

:44:07. > :44:22.

:44:22. > :44:25.of these big swimmers, they don't do medium-pace or slow pace quite

:44:25. > :44:30.so well. They only really looked comfortable when they are going for

:44:30. > :44:35.words. Phelps, I think he was a bit lucky to make this semi-final. He

:44:35. > :44:39.very nearly missed it. He's not making the same mistake here. He

:44:39. > :44:42.hasn't had his turns right on the end of this drug particularly well.

:44:42. > :44:46.I tell you what, Peng Wu, talk about making mistakes, if he

:44:46. > :44:51.doesn't get a move on hear the crowd will be very unhappy with him.

:44:51. > :44:57.He's slipping out of the left of the shot. He's got to get third or

:44:57. > :45:00.fourth. Michael Phelps looks a little bit tired here. Matsuda or

:45:00. > :45:04.up in three, world ranked number one this year. It looks like he may

:45:04. > :45:11.win it. Phelps doesn't look that comfortable. I'm quite surprised

:45:11. > :45:18.about this. A terrible finish from Phelps as well. Matsuda wins it.

:45:18. > :45:22.1.54 0.3. Phelps has said he's tried to be 12 months of training

:45:23. > :45:26.into nine months. His coach said golf doesn't help 200 fly ATOL.

:45:26. > :45:31.There was a bit of a nervous chuckle in that press conference

:45:31. > :45:41.when we heard that. You know what, seven of those guys have qualified

:45:41. > :45:43.

:45:43. > :45:53.for the final, as stated. Cause in of ski is the one that missed out.

:45:53. > :46:06.

:46:06. > :46:12.from one semi-final and -- I have never seen seven from one semi-

:46:12. > :46:18.final and one from the other. single one of those semi-finalists

:46:18. > :46:24.have made the final. That is extraordinary. It is an

:46:24. > :46:33.extraordinary court. They actually did it an hour ago. We are on the

:46:33. > :46:38.late! Can you choose my lottery numbers as well? Amazing. Let's

:46:38. > :46:48.look at Michael Phelps. I think he wanted to win that. That must take

:46:48. > :46:50.

:46:50. > :46:58.it out of him. Extraordinary qualifiers. Seven from the second

:46:58. > :47:08.semi-final and a only one from the first semi-final. That is E Yin

:47:08. > :47:11.

:47:11. > :47:17.What was your reaction watching that? Did you think he was tired?

:47:17. > :47:22.think the 200 free hurt him. He is not used to losing. He has tried to

:47:22. > :47:28.fit in 12 months of training in nine months. He has an air of

:47:28. > :47:33.invincibility about them. People are always looking at Michael

:47:33. > :47:39.Phelps in the pool. They think he can be quite beatable. I think this

:47:39. > :47:43.is a down year for him but he will be back to his best in next year.

:47:43. > :47:51.But do you think he can still win it tomorrow? He can definitely

:47:51. > :47:58.still win it. I think a better man will give him a run for his money.

:47:58. > :48:05.A 24 hour break and rest. We will not see the Michael Phelps that we

:48:05. > :48:12.saw last year. Of the 16 that made the finals, Michael Rock was the

:48:12. > :48:18.slowest. He has had a bad time. takes a lot out of you. I would

:48:18. > :48:24.look at everything I eat. You cannot have a pizza every day.

:48:24. > :48:29.There will be a dietician that will have looked at everything. Protein

:48:29. > :48:38.drinks, things like that, I used to take a lot of things like that and

:48:38. > :48:43.my Timmons and minerals. -- vitamins and minerals. A you wonder

:48:43. > :48:48.if some people are more susceptible to food poisoning. They had it at

:48:48. > :48:53.Delhi in the Commonwealth Games. Something is going wrong. They are

:48:53. > :48:59.not taking enough food with them. Some people say that you will get

:48:59. > :49:07.used to it. If you get a stomach bug you cannot be prepared for it.

:49:07. > :49:14.You can be prepared in turns of -- in that you can take your own food.

:49:14. > :49:19.If you know you're susceptible be a lot more cautious. I do not think

:49:19. > :49:24.they were being silly and trying exotic foods. But you have to take

:49:24. > :49:29.care. The training is have a bit and staying fit is the other half.

:49:29. > :49:36.Mark says he is not a betting man but I know a little bit about

:49:36. > :49:43.betting. I can tell you that Rebecca Soni of America was a 25 to

:49:43. > :49:47.one on there. That might sound like a two-horse race. She qualified for

:49:47. > :49:57.the final over when second and a half quicker than anyone else.

:49:57. > :50:10.

:50:10. > :50:16.Liesel Jones was closest. They are boat heats and the semi-finals here.

:50:16. > :50:26.It will hard to beat Pastor -- see pastor. It is hard to see past

:50:26. > :50:27.

:50:27. > :50:37.anything in this light. Jones has got form of but took 2009 off. She

:50:37. > :50:53.

:50:53. > :50:58.A champion of the breaststroke. She is very quick indeed. We have

:50:58. > :51:03.Yuliya Yefimova, the European record holder. She is a world

:51:03. > :51:08.champion on the 50. She is expected to go out very fast on the outside

:51:08. > :51:14.again. Yuliya Yefimova does not look good to me, actually. Her jump

:51:14. > :51:21.is a little bit off. It matters on breaststroke. A bit of missed

:51:21. > :51:31.timing... I do not think she will have corrected that. Listen to this

:51:31. > :51:39.

:51:39. > :51:49.ovation. It is Ye Shiwen from China. -- Sun Ye from China. Here we have

:52:10. > :52:15.former world record holder. She holds the Commonwealth record on

:52:15. > :52:23.this breaststroke but can she get anywhere near this young lady? It

:52:23. > :52:29.is America's Rebecca Soni. She looks just so borough. She will

:52:29. > :52:36.competing against Liesel Jones in lane 5. She just looks awesome.

:52:36. > :52:46.Just thinking about the stroke rate and imagining them but the swimming.

:52:46. > :52:46.

:52:46. > :52:52.Jones has a long gliding a stroke and Soni just scoops it out. She

:52:52. > :52:58.has high elbows. Her repetition is so quick. I would hazard a guess

:52:58. > :53:08.that she does maybe two-thirds more than Jones. She scoops and scoops.

:53:08. > :53:19.

:53:24. > :53:32.100m. Rebecca Soni, the Americans are generally very good at starting

:57:03. > :57:07.final with Michael Phelps. All eyes are always on Michael Phelps. I

:57:07. > :57:12.want to see more Brits getting up there and making semi-finals. Let's
