:00:54. > :00:59.Hello, the beautiful city of Barcelona continues to delight us

:00:59. > :01:04.with its hidden gems as we reached the halfway stage. We have already

:01:04. > :01:14.unearthed some stars of the future, but tonight we are set to be

:01:14. > :01:47.

:01:47. > :01:52.entertained by those global names Hello, welcome back to Barcelona as

:01:52. > :01:59.we reached the halfway stage of the World Swimming Championships. My

:01:59. > :02:03.dynamic duo as ever up here, Mark Foster and Rebecca Adlington. It

:02:03. > :02:07.has been noticed how beautifully co-ordinated you buy this evening

:02:07. > :02:13.in red, white and blue and maybe it will bring luck to the British team

:02:13. > :02:23.this evening. In the first semi- final in the men's 100m freestyle,

:02:23. > :02:38.

:02:38. > :02:42.champion. Adam Brown is going to have to go with him. It is an

:02:42. > :02:47.interesting lane assignment. I think it is good because he has

:02:48. > :02:57.just got to go for it. The Olympic champion is going well. It took

:02:57. > :03:02.Nathan Adrian ages to breathe. But Adam Brown is sticking with him.

:03:02. > :03:07.Fabien Gilot looks fantastic as well. But Adam is going well, as

:03:07. > :03:17.long as he can hold on, he has got a decent chance of making it into

:03:17. > :03:18.

:03:18. > :03:25.the final. Come on, let's finish this off. Adam Brown finished in

:03:26. > :03:32.4th. He has got a chance in the final. Wow, that is his lifetime

:03:32. > :03:42.best and look what happens when you do your lifetime best. The Olympic

:03:42. > :03:45.

:03:45. > :03:49.champion winning the first final. You know each other really well.

:03:49. > :03:54.have raced him many times and I tried to stay with him as best I

:03:54. > :04:00.could, and it is a good time, so I am pleased with that. You did not

:04:00. > :04:05.mind being in an outside lane? because there are Leicester waves.

:04:05. > :04:15.You have to get in and race and still the best time. Fingers

:04:15. > :04:31.

:04:31. > :04:37.crossed. See you later. -- there 100m freestyle. The big Brazilian

:04:37. > :04:47.is close to us. The world record holder decided not to do 100m this

:04:47. > :05:02.

:05:02. > :05:12.year. It is Jimmy Fagan in two. And Marcelo Chierighini is doing well

:05:12. > :05:14.

:05:14. > :05:24.to. Three American-trained swimmers leading this pack. That was not

:05:24. > :05:56.

:05:56. > :06:02.that quick. So Adam Brown is going We are bitterly disappointed for

:06:02. > :06:08.Adam Brown, just missing out on the final. 9th is the worst place to be,

:06:08. > :06:13.but he did a best time. He did a perfect race for him. It was great

:06:13. > :06:19.for him to be on the outside next to Nathan Adrian. With 100m

:06:19. > :06:26.freestyle, if you can sit near the lane rope and sit on the wave, you

:06:26. > :06:31.can get dragged along. He did his best time, but it was not enough.

:06:31. > :06:35.There is always a possibility somebody will decide that they may

:06:35. > :06:40.not make that final, but it is very unlikely. He will have to settle

:06:40. > :06:46.for a swimming his best time ever. It is highly unlikely that someone

:06:46. > :06:51.will pull out unless it is illness or injury. But he has got the 50m

:06:51. > :06:58.freestyle later on in the week and he has got the men's relay, so he

:06:58. > :07:02.has got more swims to come. A in the podium positions Magnusson last

:07:02. > :07:09.year came out and said he was going to win everything and he did not.

:07:09. > :07:13.He got the silver medal in London. What is going on with his form?

:07:13. > :07:19.the Olympic Games he came out and shouted about what he is going to

:07:19. > :07:24.do and did not deliver. Coming here he has done some of the fastest

:07:24. > :07:28.times in the year. But you have to earn the gold medal. In the relay

:07:28. > :07:34.in the lead of he did not deliver. If he had done the time he did this

:07:34. > :07:40.morning, they could have won the race. Then this morning he was

:07:40. > :07:44.slightly out. Who is favourite? Nathan Adrian who delivered at the

:07:44. > :07:51.Olympic Games when he was not supposed it. Yannick Agnel says you

:07:51. > :07:55.can have a strange year and come here and win. We have got two more

:07:55. > :08:05.semi-finals and the women's 50m backstroke. We have got

:08:05. > :08:25.

:08:25. > :08:34.representation from Lauren Quigley Quigley, her head well back. A very

:08:34. > :08:38.interesting start from Emily Seebohm. Lauren Quigley is in the

:08:38. > :08:48.blue suit and she is going well. She needs to wind it up in these

:08:48. > :08:50.

:08:50. > :08:56.last 10m and she could make the final. She is in 4th position. A

:08:56. > :09:05.dangerous position after the first semi-final. That was a very good

:09:05. > :09:11.swim. That is her best time, I am sure. Mercedes was very good. The

:09:11. > :09:21.world record holder was second. Lauren Quigley has got a chance.

:09:21. > :09:41.

:09:41. > :09:51.This is the second semi-final with from the Brazilian. Aya Terakawa is

:09:51. > :09:52.

:09:52. > :09:59.coming back. Great Britain is 4th. I think we may have two British

:09:59. > :10:09.finalists. She was a little bit slower than Lauren Quigley. 7th and

:10:09. > :10:23.

:10:23. > :10:28.8th, that is fantastic. Excellent Fantastic news, two Brits in there

:10:28. > :10:36.and a personal best from you and close times as well. We did exactly

:10:36. > :10:41.the same time this morning, so it is a bit weird. But again hopefully

:10:41. > :10:46.we can get in the final tomorrow and give it a global stock not bad

:10:46. > :10:54.in your first international to make a world championship final? No, it

:10:54. > :10:59.is not bad at all. I learnt a lot from their 100 earlier in the week.

:10:59. > :11:06.Your whole family is here. I heard them before and hopefully they are

:11:06. > :11:13.looking forward to tomorrow night. Fantastic news for Great Britain.

:11:13. > :11:16.Two women in that final tomorrow. Appeared before Lauren Quigley. I

:11:16. > :11:22.know you have spent a lot of time with her and you are thrilled by

:11:22. > :11:29.her. It was an amazing race, I am so pleased that they both get a

:11:29. > :11:33.second swim. They progressed from the morning as well. You want a PB

:11:34. > :11:40.coming into a big meet. You do not want to be swimming the same times

:11:40. > :11:45.as the trials. I am looking forward to the final. They qualified with

:11:45. > :11:52.the same time, so realistically is there much more wet that they can

:11:52. > :11:57.do? You said it earlier with Yannick Agnel when they find a

:11:57. > :12:01.little bit extra. They are at a peak at the moment, but they came

:12:01. > :12:07.in here and we were asking for best times and they did their best times

:12:07. > :12:12.tonight. There is nothing to say they cannot do it again. Maybe they

:12:12. > :12:20.could get off the block a bit quicker, there will be tiny

:12:20. > :12:24.improvements. They have still got a chance. Does Lauren get nervous?

:12:24. > :12:30.Will this get her through the week now she is used to the noise and

:12:30. > :12:35.the arena and will it settle her a bit? The first swim is always

:12:35. > :12:41.nervous regardless of where you are. She will definitely be settling,

:12:41. > :12:47.but I know she will want to break 28 tomorrow. I am sure she will be

:12:47. > :12:53.fighting for that tomorrow. We are looking forward to that. Next up is

:12:53. > :12:57.the men's 200m butterfly final. The overwhelming favourites, a man who

:12:57. > :13:07.was best known for the person he's laid last year in London, or maybe

:13:07. > :13:16.it is because he is a big fan of his dad. He beat Michael Phelps in

:13:16. > :13:22.London, 2012. Adam Le Clo is not going very hard on this one. He put

:13:22. > :13:32.his head down for three strokes and won it. I am happy with the time

:13:32. > :13:46.

:13:46. > :13:53.and I wanted to qualify, said that Clos yet. Four lengths of the

:13:53. > :14:00.swimming pool. The men's 200m butterfly. Expect Chad Le Clos to

:14:00. > :14:10.go out quickly. So far he has been looking around a lot. I think we

:14:10. > :14:10.

:14:10. > :14:16.will see him concentrate on his own race. He is very relaxed. It is

:14:16. > :14:26.good to be relaxed. I bet underneath he is working hard.

:14:26. > :14:29.

:14:29. > :14:34.Course Zhirinovsky is in good shape, though of. He is on form. I am

:14:34. > :14:44.surprised that Peng Wu is not up there. He struggled in the semis.

:14:44. > :14:48.Chad Le Clos is a lot more determined than he was previously.

:14:48. > :14:54.It is outside the time he won the Olympic Games in, but he looks

:14:54. > :14:59.reasonably strong. The field has not disappeared yet. He looked left

:14:59. > :15:05.and right again. He is looking right and seeing where they are. If

:15:05. > :15:15.he is not careful, Caucasian not ski, the world champion from 2005,

:15:15. > :15:38.

:15:38. > :15:45.of. Look at him looking around. Go for it, go forward! Looks like he

:15:45. > :15:51.won it only just. Chad Le Clos of South Africa and the world title to

:15:51. > :16:01.the Olympic title he won in London last year. Do not swear much like

:16:01. > :16:02.

:16:02. > :16:08.that! It is so funny.-- swim. are right. He could have gone half

:16:08. > :16:14.a second faster if he was looking forward. I don't know why he was

:16:14. > :16:19.looking either side. If you look to the side, your whole body is

:16:19. > :16:25.getting unbalanced during the butterfly. And do not do that! I am

:16:25. > :16:30.going to have to have big talk to him. He is Olympic and world

:16:30. > :16:35.champion. Depending on which side he looks, he is working out were

:16:35. > :16:45.the biggest threat is. I think he puts his head down for three

:16:45. > :16:49.

:16:49. > :16:59.strokes here. What annoys me, he hit the finished perfectly. Chad Le

:16:59. > :17:05.

:17:05. > :17:11.Clos, world champion. Different way the Looking? The commentators were

:17:11. > :17:15.getting perplexed? Sometimes I am nervous. I will look around, and

:17:15. > :17:23.make sure I am in the right position. I have done it from a

:17:23. > :17:28.young age. It is not a good example. You're not going to change it,

:17:29. > :17:33.really? I like to know where I am in the field. I like to make sure I

:17:33. > :17:43.am ahead and make sure I am in touching distance going into the

:17:43. > :17:50.

:17:50. > :17:54.last 54 stuff that is my game plan. Chad Le Clos, delighted to have the

:17:54. > :17:58.World Championship to his Olympic gold. Cementing his brilliance in

:17:58. > :18:02.the butterfly. What is going on, I know the commentators quite

:18:02. > :18:08.perplexed about this head-turning. He does it consistently through the

:18:08. > :18:14.raised? We look at it and think it is like a schoolboy, but Olympic

:18:14. > :18:19.champion and now world champion, it is how he likes to swim. When you

:18:19. > :18:25.are in the water, you cut your own length. Keep focusing on your own

:18:25. > :18:32.thing. How much time could that be using up? I think he practises it

:18:32. > :18:38.in training. He must do, because he swims so fast with it, but he was

:18:38. > :18:44.two seconds of from last year. But he still won. If there was someone

:18:44. > :18:48.else there, he had another second in him? I am not saying he was

:18:48. > :18:54.holding back, but is that the impetus he needs by having someone

:18:54. > :18:59.next to him? He won the Olympic gold by such a tiny margin, he does

:18:59. > :19:04.not over exert himself, he likes the challenge. I don't think he was

:19:04. > :19:10.looking around too much against a Michael Phelps. Michael Phelps was

:19:10. > :19:19.the one to chase, now he has of the one to be chased. Pawel

:19:19. > :19:25.Korzeniowski, a great silver medal as well. Definitely. Market loves

:19:25. > :19:29.his stroke. He reckons he has the best stroke in the field. The fact

:19:29. > :19:35.he won his world Championship eight years ago, and to carry on at that

:19:35. > :19:41.level is tremendous. We have a great race, it is the women's 200-

:19:41. > :19:51.metre freestyle final. We have the Italian, Federica Pellegrini, up

:19:51. > :20:08.

:20:08. > :20:14.against Missy Franklin from America. But she has come up in the leader.

:20:14. > :20:20.Her reaction to the gun was low. In six, the Olympic champion in the

:20:20. > :20:26.white hat, going out there fairly fierce -- fast in this first 50.

:20:26. > :20:32.was looking forward to this tonight. Can Federica Pellegrini really do

:20:32. > :20:42.it? She is turning last. Always comes back strongly. Missy Franklin

:20:42. > :20:52.

:20:52. > :20:59.at the moment. She won't be able to catch them up on that distance on

:20:59. > :21:04.the world record? Missy Franklin lets her come in. At 75 metres,

:21:04. > :21:11.just 25 into the wall. Missy Franklin is putting on a huge

:21:11. > :21:16.sprint. My looks like the Olympic champion is trying to go with her.

:21:16. > :21:23.The rest of the field will come back and Federica Pellegrini is

:21:23. > :21:33.about three metres behind. Federica Pellegrini, I expect to get on the

:21:33. > :21:34.

:21:34. > :21:41.medal podium. But she has been known to switch off. Federica he --

:21:41. > :21:47.Federica Pellegrini coming back like a rocket. The 18-year-old,

:21:47. > :21:56.Missy Franklin, is currently leading. But look how fast Federica

:21:56. > :22:02.Pellegrini is coming back. I think Missy Franklin are well hold on.

:22:02. > :22:08.The world record holder gets the silver medal. What a world-class

:22:08. > :22:13.field and what an amazing race. Perfect tactics from this young

:22:13. > :22:22.lady, Missy Franklin, from the USA. For somebody so young to have read

:22:22. > :22:32.that field is spot on for an 18- year-old. And knowing the strength

:22:32. > :22:35.

:22:35. > :22:40.of Camille Moffat, using it strongly. Almost fell off the block.

:22:40. > :22:45.0.2 slower than the rest of the field with her reaction to the gun.

:22:45. > :22:51.Perfect pacing, using the people around her. Camille Muffat, the

:22:51. > :23:01.Olympic champion, using the Olympic champion, the audacity of it!

:23:01. > :23:10.

:23:10. > :23:16.In it is 35 years since an American lady has won a gold medal. I did

:23:16. > :23:22.not know that. Well done, youth. Did it you plan matter with your

:23:22. > :23:27.coach? Absolutely, we knew I would have to be out fast. Federica

:23:27. > :23:32.Pellegrini has a very good back half, and I could see her creeping

:23:32. > :23:37.up. I was praying for the wall to come. Your experience is building

:23:37. > :23:44.all of the time. Is that number three you have got now? That is

:23:44. > :23:54.number three. Having got a special box to put them in? There is a safe

:23:54. > :23:54.

:23:54. > :24:01.in the hotel I put them in. I am so excited. To be a part of the

:24:01. > :24:07.swimming team, it is incredible, I am going to learn so much. I swam

:24:07. > :24:14.it with your coach over 20 years ago, I wish you luck. Thanks.

:24:14. > :24:19.What a race from the 18-year-old, Missy Franklin. It was perfect and

:24:19. > :24:27.Federica Pellegrini, a power. If that pool was two metres longer, it

:24:27. > :24:31.would have been hers? Without a doubt. Federica Pellegrini only

:24:31. > :24:37.entered the 200 metres late, and she walked away with the silver

:24:37. > :24:41.medal. Just have a word on Federica Pellegrini, her career has been

:24:42. > :24:47.over such a great length of time, for a swimmer to retain that form

:24:47. > :24:56.and class over a long period, it takes some going? Those middle-

:24:56. > :25:02.distance events, the training in general, is very hard. To keep the

:25:02. > :25:06.mind set. A world record, his three seconds faster than that. To get in

:25:06. > :25:09.and beat yourself up every day, and the things the public do not see is

:25:09. > :25:17.the training that goes into make that possible. A lot of hours spent

:25:17. > :25:21.in the pool and the gym. She is 25 in about a week, Federica

:25:21. > :25:30.Pellegrini. You have 18-year-old Missy Franklin, has she got about

:25:30. > :25:35.seven years at the top of her again? If she wants it? Definitely.

:25:35. > :25:40.Federica Pellegrini has stopped doing the 400 now, she is focusing

:25:40. > :25:45.on the shorter events, which she is better at a stop Missy Franklin can

:25:45. > :25:50.pick and choose what she likes. She is so good and so talented. She is

:25:51. > :25:54.going to have a long career. will be seeing a lot of her in Rio.

:25:54. > :25:59.It was a race that lived up to the billing. We hope there will be

:25:59. > :26:09.plenty of those. In less than a week's time, it will be the start

:26:09. > :26:41.

:26:41. > :26:45.of the track and field World The next Final tonight is the men's

:26:45. > :26:52.50-metre breaststroke. We know Cameron van der Burgh is in flying

:26:52. > :27:02.form. He posted a time just outside of his own world record in

:27:02. > :27:12.

:27:12. > :27:20.qualifying. And he break that van der Burgh. The final of the

:27:20. > :27:26.men's 50 metres backstroke -- breaststroke. Cameron van der Burgh

:27:27. > :27:32.is looking very good. Also going well is Christian Sprenger of

:27:32. > :27:42.Australia. It looks like it might be Christian Sprenger with five

:27:42. > :27:42.

:27:42. > :27:52.metres to go. Cameron van der Burgh got a touch. Just outside the world

:27:52. > :27:53.

:27:53. > :27:59.record. Christian Sprenger have it! That look like my Olympic final.

:27:59. > :28:04.Christian Sprenger went in first, but Cameron van der Burgh put his

:28:04. > :28:08.last stroke in and overtook on the actual launch. He wasn't a winning.

:28:08. > :28:16.The South African getting that bronze medal. So obviously Cameron

:28:16. > :28:22.van der Burgh is pleased for his team mate. Joao Gomes Junior

:28:22. > :28:26.getting a surprise that bronze medal. We have talked on a couple

:28:26. > :28:30.of events, when you are about 10 metres out, you can adjust the

:28:30. > :28:36.length of your stroke to make sure that when your hands go forward you

:28:36. > :28:42.touch the wall at that point, and Christian Sprenger did not get it?

:28:42. > :28:49.No, he wasn't ahead as far as I thought. He launches himself into

:28:49. > :28:59.the wall first. Actually, Cameron van der Burgh did. Christian

:28:59. > :29:17.

:29:17. > :29:24.You stole that from him because of your fantastic finish. It has been

:29:24. > :29:29.a roller-coaster. I have been sick and been congested. You mentioned

:29:29. > :29:36.your shoulder injury, no sign of it? You don't feel it's swimming,

:29:36. > :29:42.it is always afterwards. I'm sure I will feel it tomorrow morning.

:29:42. > :29:47.You'll have a quick beer now? then call it a day. It is turning

:29:47. > :29:51.into a fabulous night the South Africa in the pool. Just, for

:29:51. > :29:56.Cameron van der Burgh, he got it spot on? The race was perfect for

:29:56. > :30:02.him. The is the world record holder, but the finish, which it came down

:30:02. > :30:06.to the finish in the end, Christian Sprenger was coming back to him. He

:30:06. > :30:11.took two tiny strokes, he would have been better gliding into the

:30:11. > :30:17.wall. It could have gone the other way. When would that decision had

:30:17. > :30:21.been made? In the split-second. In training, when you are coming into

:30:21. > :30:27.the walls, butterfly and breaststroke is easier because

:30:27. > :30:31.you're looking at the wall. You know you are three strokes off the

:30:31. > :30:41.wall and you change your pattern accordingly. That is what Cameron

:30:41. > :30:52.

:30:52. > :30:56.Poor South Africa it is a very strong night. Last night it was

:30:56. > :31:02.about the USA. For the Commonwealth it bodes well for strength and

:31:02. > :31:06.depth. The top three will be in the Commonwealth Games next year.

:31:06. > :31:10.and it is nice to hear a different national anthem. Everyone is

:31:10. > :31:16.looking forward to the Commonwealth Games, but let's hope the Brits

:31:16. > :31:26.somewhere can get in there. We have one coming up next. We have the

:31:26. > :31:45.

:31:45. > :31:53.women's 200m butterfly semis. Jemma good start from her. The world

:31:53. > :32:03.record holder in lane five, Zige Liu. Katinka Hosszu and Zige Liu

:32:03. > :32:10.

:32:10. > :32:20.typically go out fardels -- fast. It is as expected. Zige Liu is

:32:20. > :32:30.taking it out. Also Katerine Savard in lane one. Jemma Lowe looks in

:32:30. > :32:38.

:32:38. > :32:44.good shape. And she is tracking the world record holder. Let's hope

:32:44. > :32:49.that she can continue despite stock that was a very fast first 100. She

:32:49. > :32:55.is a really tough swimmer, Jemma Lowe, and she has got a chance here.

:32:55. > :33:02.It is a very good position. Sometimes with the 200m you are not

:33:02. > :33:07.sure how people will take them out. You can see the American Cammile

:33:07. > :33:15.Adams in lane three. She can see along the line with her breathing

:33:16. > :33:23.style. Jemma Lowe has dropped down to 6th. She will have to dig in. It

:33:23. > :33:33.was a great first 100. But she is tailing off now. Exactly what we

:33:33. > :33:43.saw this morning, Zige Liu tying up. Coming very three strongly through

:33:43. > :33:47.

:33:47. > :33:55.his cameo Adams. Katinka Hosszu is coming through. -- cameo Adams.

:33:55. > :34:05.Jemma Lowe was 6th. Look at Adams. She is going to be in the final and

:34:05. > :34:13.

:34:13. > :34:17.I guess it was the way you had to swim it. Tonight I knew I would

:34:17. > :34:25.have to go but it, but it was not good enough to get into the final.

:34:25. > :34:30.That is it. The it is a stacked second semi-final. Both of them are

:34:30. > :34:36.going to be fast and you have to be in the top four or three to get in.

:34:37. > :34:43.Does that mean back to the drawing board? Yes, it has not been easy

:34:43. > :34:49.after the Olympics and I have been training as hard as I ever have had,

:34:49. > :34:55.but hopefully I will get better. Not good news for Jemma Lowe, she

:34:55. > :34:59.does not qualified. But the Spaniard, Belmonte Garcia won the

:34:59. > :35:09.second semi-final and she brought the house down with her performance.

:35:09. > :35:13.

:35:13. > :35:18.It is looking good for Spain. Jemma Lowe's rays and then her

:35:18. > :35:24.competition generally, perhaps it is time for her to choose between

:35:24. > :35:30.the 100 and a 200. It is harder as you get older, especially as a

:35:30. > :35:35.woman, to focus on one event. The 100 and 200, I think she is better

:35:35. > :35:40.at the 100. The 200 she has not done her best time for quite a

:35:40. > :35:47.while, so I think it is time for her to move down and see what

:35:47. > :35:51.happens. If not, she can always change back to doing both. She is

:35:51. > :35:56.three seconds off her personal best, so maybe changing something might

:35:56. > :36:03.help in the future. It is not that she has papered incorrectly, it

:36:03. > :36:07.might be time to give herself a slimmer programme. What she will be

:36:07. > :36:11.looking at is the fact she knows the times she has done before would

:36:11. > :36:15.have qualified for the final and would have stood a chance for

:36:15. > :36:20.winning a medal. When you come to these championships and knowing

:36:20. > :36:26.when you are at your best, you can go for the podium. I disagree with

:36:26. > :36:30.Becky in I think she can do both races still. She is in a distance

:36:30. > :36:36.programmes in Swansea and she still has more of. The field is not

:36:36. > :36:41.getting any faster, so she can get back. You were pointing out that

:36:41. > :36:46.most of the women in these races are around that mid-20s age. The it

:36:46. > :36:52.is not a young event yet, it is about trying to change something. I

:36:52. > :36:57.do not know what she is doing in her training, her gymnastic work,

:36:57. > :37:02.or what she can change back. She can try something new. Maybe trying

:37:02. > :37:08.something different might help her. More British interest in the next

:37:08. > :37:18.race, the men's 200-metre individual medley. Roberto Pavoni

:37:18. > :37:18.

:37:18. > :37:28.goes in this. This is his preferred event. In the second semi-final is

:37:28. > :37:53.

:37:53. > :37:58.Ryan Lochte, the world champion and Going out very fast next to him is

:37:58. > :38:08.Conor Dwyer of the USA. Absolutely, and we know he has got a very good

:38:08. > :38:20.

:38:20. > :38:24.freestyle. His last lane will be strong. -- his last legs. Roberto

:38:24. > :38:34.Pavoni is a decent breaststroke her, but he needs to be because the rest

:38:34. > :38:35.

:38:35. > :38:44.of the field is getting away from him. Kosuke Hagino's style is

:38:44. > :38:54.beatable. Roberto Pavoni has got some work to do, but he can still

:38:54. > :38:55.

:38:55. > :39:03.do it. Conor Dwyer is going to turn and have an impact on this field.

:39:03. > :39:11.He will have to do some work on his freestyle. Thiago Pereira is

:39:11. > :39:16.maximising the breaststroke again. It is good to see the Australian.

:39:16. > :39:25.The Aussies have had such a tough time of it recently and now they

:39:25. > :39:31.are throwing some swimmers back at it again. Meerkat Kosuke Hagino

:39:31. > :39:36.coming back in the black hat of Japan. Really powerful. He has

:39:36. > :39:46.declared he wants to win this medal. If he wants to be Ryan Lochte, he

:39:46. > :39:56.has got some work to do. Roberto Pavoni finished 7th. He will not

:39:56. > :40:00.

:40:00. > :40:07.What does it take to get through to those finals? You have to produce a

:40:07. > :40:11.personal best. For me I am having to swim fast in the heats to

:40:11. > :40:18.qualify for the semi-finals. I am disappointed I did not improve on

:40:18. > :40:23.that tonight. Relatively good times, second and third best ever, so I

:40:23. > :40:33.cannot be too upset. I qualified for my first semi-final ever at

:40:33. > :40:47.

:40:47. > :40:57.this level, so I am happy but is in lane three in the black hat

:40:57. > :40:57.

:40:58. > :41:07.going pretty quickly in these first 50m. He looks good. Ryan Lochte has

:41:08. > :41:12.

:41:12. > :41:22.got a good flight and a good back and a good freestyle. Laszlo Cseh

:41:22. > :41:25.

:41:25. > :41:31.is in 4th. Laszlo Cseh has got the bald head. Alongside him is the

:41:31. > :41:37.black hat of Ryan Lochte. Laszlo Cseh turns first at the halfway

:41:37. > :41:42.mark. This is fairly comfortable for Ryan Lochte. He is not the

:41:42. > :41:48.greatest at breaststroke. Quite a few people could come back to him.

:41:49. > :41:58.Laszlo Cseh has got a good breaststroke. You have got Henrique

:41:58. > :42:08.Rodrigues as well. Ryan Lochte is working it very hard, clearly a

:42:08. > :42:12.

:42:12. > :42:17.tactic. He destroyed them on that breaststroke. Look at the superb

:42:18. > :42:27.turn. His turning on the freestyle is stunning. This is really

:42:27. > :42:31.impressive. Laszlo Cseh is second and nobody else is in the picture.

:42:31. > :42:41.Maybe Markus Diebler in bed. He is switching off now and saving his

:42:41. > :43:01.

:43:01. > :43:07.energy. He is a gold medal favour What a find we are going to have

:43:07. > :43:14.tomorrow night. Are we looking at another it duel? Visit Ryan Lochte

:43:14. > :43:17.and Kosuke Hagino. Absolutely, but I think Ryan Lochte has got it. His

:43:17. > :43:22.turning is exceptional. He took so much out of the field and then he

:43:22. > :43:27.eased off at the end to save his energy. I am expecting big things

:43:27. > :43:32.of him tomorrow. He was behind Michael Phelps last year and in

:43:32. > :43:36.London and this is his time. He has really enjoyed the celebrity. He

:43:36. > :43:41.had his own reality show on the States and there was a risky was

:43:41. > :43:46.going to take his eye off the ball. But he is looking good. I think he

:43:46. > :43:52.would have looked in the mirror and said, what is he going to do now?

:43:52. > :43:59.That is his event. He dominated in 2012 and beat Michael Phelps. He

:43:59. > :44:04.was hurting after coming 4th in the 200m freestyle. He wants to put

:44:04. > :44:08.that right. A lot of people will be looking at him and saying, the

:44:08. > :44:14.reality show and now you are not performing. Are you a celebrity or

:44:14. > :44:20.a swimmer? With those shoes, there is an element of showbiz right down

:44:20. > :44:25.to his feet. What are they all about? He has got a personality and

:44:25. > :44:30.it is nice to see it come through. He is a character and it is nice to

:44:30. > :44:37.see it and I am sure his team-mates loved it. It is not something I

:44:37. > :44:42.would have. We will leave it to him. It sounds like he is the favourite

:44:42. > :44:48.tomorrow night. This is the final event of the evening, the men's

:44:48. > :44:58.800m. This man is looking to complete a gruelling political

:44:58. > :45:16.

:45:16. > :45:22.stock he won gold on Sunday. It is really looking forward to this one.

:45:22. > :45:30.Sun Yang of China, only a second faster squalor fire. This is going

:45:30. > :45:36.to be a cracker. World Championship final of the men's 800 metres

:45:36. > :45:42.freestyle final. Sun Yang with the white hat and the red flag of China

:45:42. > :45:50.in the centre. He has the most beautiful freestyle stroke. He is

:45:50. > :46:00.so efficient under water, it is incredible. 16 months of the pool.

:46:00. > :46:15.

:46:15. > :46:22.record on this event. It is held by another Chinese man who won the

:46:22. > :46:29.World Championships in Rome. But it right on the world record pace.

:46:29. > :46:35.Could it go here? He will have to go a bit faster. It was a very fast

:46:35. > :46:45.world record, it was set in Rome at the last World Championships when

:46:45. > :46:49.

:46:49. > :46:53.they were wearing a long body suits which have been banned and now.

:46:53. > :47:02.They were proven to give people an advantage. It is a tough Ward

:47:02. > :47:11.record to beat. I am surprised Oussama Mellouli is there. He is

:47:11. > :47:18.trying to push the pace early. Ryan Cochrane, very tough. Hardly

:47:18. > :47:28.kicking his feet. Just amazing. Greatest distance freestyler in

:47:28. > :47:35.

:47:35. > :47:45.history. 200 metres down on this 800 metres world final. The 17-

:47:45. > :47:47.

:47:47. > :47:57.year-old Australian is in second. Jordan Harrison's coach also

:47:57. > :48:01.

:48:01. > :48:05.coached Sun Yang for a time. He was told to concentrate on the

:48:05. > :48:12.Australians for a while, rather than the Chinese! The Australian

:48:12. > :48:16.need some more men, the great nation that it is. They have had a

:48:16. > :48:22.lack of kids that have made it through to this level in the last

:48:22. > :48:27.few years. There is a decent swimmer at the moment, Jordan

:48:27. > :48:32.Harrison of Australia. Currently in third position, but still Sun Yang

:48:32. > :48:40.leading. I get the feeling he is playing with them at the moment. He

:48:40. > :48:47.does not look like he is all guns blazing at the moment. Sun Yang,

:48:47. > :48:51.leading ephedrine. Ryan Cochrane in second the cannon there. Connor

:48:51. > :48:58.Jaeger looks as though he may have moved into third position. This is

:48:58. > :49:04.not a world record for Sun Yang. He is not after the time, he is after

:49:04. > :49:11.the medal. This is his best way. Not yet a world record swim.

:49:11. > :49:19.are right, the way he does go about things. When he turns his legs on,

:49:19. > :49:28.they go quickly. Ryan Cochrane in second place. At the halfway mark.

:49:28. > :49:36.Sun Yang has led from the start. Ryan Cochrane has just made a move.

:49:36. > :49:42.Connor Jaeger, Kwok -- fastest qualifier after the heats. They are

:49:42. > :49:47.starting to make a move and Sun Yang. Also coming through his

:49:47. > :49:56.Mcbroom of the USA. Jordan harass and, this is much tighter than I

:49:56. > :50:05.thought it would be. Ryan Cochrane will be thinking, this is his best

:50:05. > :50:12.shot. Looking good. Cochrane has been a stalwart for the Canadians.

:50:12. > :50:17.He is still there delivering podium finishes. But it you are right, Sun

:50:17. > :50:23.Yang letting the field surround him. I think he is playing with them.

:50:23. > :50:32.Six lengths to go and Sun Yang of China looks comfortable. He is

:50:32. > :50:42.starting to pick up the pace a little bit. Coming with him at the

:50:42. > :50:43.

:50:43. > :50:53.moment is Michael Mcbroom. Ryan Cochrane seems to have made his

:50:53. > :51:00.move and it has not worked. Yang doing well are now. Mickey is

:51:00. > :51:10.in great shape. Great technique. Starting to kick his legs a little

:51:10. > :51:10.

:51:10. > :51:20.bit more. I think he has got them where he wants them. I hope. I am a

:51:20. > :51:22.

:51:22. > :51:32.fan of his. Mcbroom is very well. 200 metres left. Sun Yang, I think,

:51:32. > :51:32.

:51:32. > :51:41.playing with them. His fingers are slightly open. Such a long stroke.

:51:41. > :51:47.He pulls the water all the way back to his feet. Could Ryan Cochrane be

:51:47. > :51:57.out of the medals? Interesting, the two Americans are very well. They

:51:57. > :52:00.

:52:01. > :52:09.are tracking Sun Yang. Cochrane has a decent sprint on him. Sun Yang

:52:09. > :52:15.starting to put a kick on. 100 metres to go, I don't think the

:52:15. > :52:21.others will live with him. Mcbroom is having a go four-star Sun Yang

:52:21. > :52:29.of China leading and has taken two metres out of the field in about

:52:29. > :52:39.the space of 20. That is Sun Yang. He looks a very good. He has just

:52:39. > :52:45.played with them. The silver, bronze and 4th is the tight.

:52:45. > :52:55.Yang is two body lengths ahead of the field. Looking left and right.

:52:55. > :52:58.

:52:58. > :53:02.The saving a little bit. Here he goes. USA, USA, Canada. It looks

:53:02. > :53:08.like the gold medal and world Championship title will go to Sun

:53:08. > :53:18.Yang of China. Silver, bronze and forth, what a surprise. Mcbroom

:53:18. > :53:18.

:53:18. > :53:23.might get the silver. Sun Yang wins it. An amazing swim. He played with

:53:23. > :53:33.them for 600 metres and then blew them away at the end. The bronze to

:53:33. > :53:52.

:53:52. > :53:56.Ryan Cochrane of Canada for stun The Sun Yang's second gold medal of

:53:56. > :54:03.these championships. What a motion he was showing in the water and on

:54:03. > :54:07.the podium. It has been a huge year. A lot of training goes into it and

:54:07. > :54:11.it is lovely to see the emotion come out. You don't know what goes

:54:11. > :54:18.into training, a lot of time spent on your own with your head in the

:54:18. > :54:23.water. You were saying to me as well, how big the Chinese

:54:23. > :54:28.championships art which take place in a few weeks. To them, almost

:54:28. > :54:31.bigger than any other world level championships? They have four

:54:31. > :54:36.provinces in China and their funding is determined on how well

:54:36. > :54:42.they do in those championships. It is the lead-up to that

:54:42. > :54:46.championships. A lot of the guys here, you think why aren't they so

:54:46. > :54:52.well here, but in four weeks' time, they would set times ago would have

:54:52. > :55:00.won medals here. It is just the way the funding system is in China.

:55:00. > :55:06.Pushed by the American, Michael Mcbroom? He had a fantastic race,

:55:06. > :55:11.knocked four seconds off his best. Nice to see a new boy coming up and

:55:11. > :55:16.not predicted in a medal. Looking forward to the 1,500 as well.

:55:16. > :55:21.have won our first medal, Great Britain of these aquatic

:55:21. > :55:30.Championships. It is in the high diving. It was won by Gary Hunt. He

:55:31. > :55:35.took silver. That high diving is 27 metres. You have to enter the water

:55:35. > :55:40.feet first. It is too dangerous to go in head first from 27 metres. He

:55:40. > :55:45.went into those finals in 4th place, improving and getting close to the

:55:45. > :55:53.gold as well. You don't need me to tell you how

:55:53. > :55:58.close it was, what is your reaction to that final routine? Obviously,

:55:58. > :56:03.straight after the dive, I was disappointed. I had done it under

:56:03. > :56:07.pressure before, and today it wasn't there on the finish. It is

:56:07. > :56:11.very important to enter the water without a splash. I saw how close

:56:11. > :56:16.it was, so obviously I am disappointed not to be on the top

:56:16. > :56:21.of the podium. I did for could dives and Degas me onto the podium

:56:21. > :56:25.with a silver medal, so I am very happy. A silver medal is an

:56:25. > :56:28.incredible achievement, and the first time it has been here at a

:56:28. > :56:38.World Aquatics Championships. What do you think that medal could mean

:56:38. > :56:44.the Great Britain? I hope British diving and, people can see it is a

:56:44. > :56:49.serious sport. We can only progress if all get help. We have a good

:56:49. > :56:55.results today. Matthew did very well and he is only just starting.

:56:55. > :57:00.It is important we get help from were ever we can. I am glad I have

:57:00. > :57:09.got onto the podium to maybe help us in the right direction. It is

:57:09. > :57:14.not exactly where we thought we might get a first medal from, but

:57:14. > :57:21.Bravo Gary Hunt. We have driven past it will stop it is near the

:57:21. > :57:28.end arena, and it is fighting the Hyde? Do you fancy ads? Absolutely

:57:28. > :57:34.not. We did go on the ten-metre bought on the first day to film the

:57:34. > :57:40.opening Lynx. No one was very comfortable. Tomorrow we have two

:57:41. > :57:44.Brits, Lauren and Georgia Davies in the 50 metres backstroke? I am

:57:44. > :57:48.excited. It has been a better night for the Brits, and hopefully it

:57:48. > :57:54.will bring more tomorrow night. Hopefully in the next few days we

:57:54. > :57:58.will see a lot more Brits in action. We're hoping we may have Andrew

:57:58. > :58:03.Willis and Michael Jamieson as well? On the back of the Olympic

:58:04. > :58:06.Games, they have great results. We did not see what we wanted to see

:58:06. > :58:11.in the 100 metres, but this is their main event. The more people

:58:11. > :58:16.we get people in two finals it will help the younger members of the

:58:16. > :58:19.team to see they can make the finals. It will help and it has a
