:00:35. > :00:41.Welcome to Budapest to day five of the world swimming Championships,
:00:42. > :00:44.Team GB already have three gold medals in the bag and this evening
:00:45. > :00:52.there are more opportunities to get on the podium. Only maximum effort
:00:53. > :00:55.will do, Max Litchfield goes in the 200 metre individual medley. Duncan
:00:56. > :01:00.Scott in the 100 meter freestyle final. Georgia Davies is in the hunt
:01:01. > :01:05.for a medal in the 50 meter backstroke. And Ross Murdoch is
:01:06. > :01:13.flying the flag for British breaststroke, can he be the boss?
:01:14. > :01:19.First up we are going to see Max Litchfield in the 200 metre
:01:20. > :01:24.individual medley, it is fair to say he was looking on form as he made
:01:25. > :01:27.his way through the feats, smashing the British record and Commonwealth
:01:28. > :01:31.record and this is him in the semifinal last night.
:01:32. > :01:46.COMMENTATOR: Max Litchfield might be second or third, he is third come on
:01:47. > :02:01.max Lichfield has to finish in the top three or four. Come on Max
:02:02. > :02:11.Litchfield. He is going well, Hagino is leading. Max Litchfield second,
:02:12. > :02:16.an excellent time just outside the Commonwealth record. Brilliant.
:02:17. > :02:29.Another fantastic effort today you must be pleased? Yes, coming there
:02:30. > :02:33.and doing the same time was fantastic. How pleased are you for
:02:34. > :02:39.Max Litchfield because he almost seemed surprised with his times? So
:02:40. > :02:44.nice to see people, he was one of those really hard for places at the
:02:45. > :02:48.Olympic Games and he has rarely stepped up to the plate. Knocking a
:02:49. > :02:55.second and a half of his personal best coming up to this event. It's
:02:56. > :02:58.difficult going PB, PB, PB through the streets, semifinals and final, I
:02:59. > :03:03.would love to see him break the British record tonight. The 400
:03:04. > :03:09.metres individual medley will be his best event later but this is looking
:03:10. > :03:14.good, stroke is looking great, he will come back towards the end,
:03:15. > :03:18.first or second is gone but he could get third. He is in a scrap for a
:03:19. > :03:20.medal, good luck to him, let's see how he gets on in the 200 metre
:03:21. > :03:31.individual medley. The new Commonwealth record holder
:03:32. > :03:34.Max Litchfield but he is surrounded by the big boys. The Japanese are
:03:35. > :03:49.very quick as well. A real changing of the guard here
:03:50. > :03:55.because America represented by this man, the first time we have not been
:03:56. > :03:59.calling the two big boys. That's right, Michael Phelps winning three
:04:00. > :04:05.times and after him we saw Ryan Lochte winning four times in a row,
:04:06. > :04:15.not since 2001 has anyone since those big superstars won the event.
:04:16. > :04:24.Do not count out the German, they have hardly turned up here, it's
:04:25. > :04:28.been quite extraordinary. Heintz is number one in the world, Germany
:04:29. > :04:34.have had a terrible meet, they really need him to try and pick up
:04:35. > :04:44.the middle. Max Litchfield has had to Maxi Pereira swims so far -- has
:04:45. > :04:59.had two smashing swims so far. World Championship final, men's 200
:05:00. > :05:14.metre medley, Max Litchfield in free. -- three. The pink suit of Max
:05:15. > :05:29.Litchfield of Great Britain, Hagino and five, Kalisz goes well, normally
:05:30. > :05:35.Hagino goes well. Setting the early pace, Hagino, going really well. Out
:05:36. > :05:47.under world-record pace and that was said by Ryan Lochte. Hagino was the
:05:48. > :05:52.first to turn second was Wang. The pink suit in three of Max Litchfield
:05:53. > :05:57.starts coming through, looking pretty good, this is the halfway
:05:58. > :06:02.turn. Max Litchfield is going to turn second, would be great if he
:06:03. > :06:07.could keep this going. It is great to see, he's had a strong turn. This
:06:08. > :06:13.is where he's got to work to the stroke, some of these guys including
:06:14. > :06:16.Kalisz and Hagino are really strong freestylers as is Max Litchfield but
:06:17. > :06:22.I do not want to see him losing too much ground. The breaststroke of Max
:06:23. > :06:32.Litchfield perhaps not as strong as the rest of the field. Kalisz has
:06:33. > :06:41.overtaken Hagino, this is going to be a fantastic scrap. Kalisz first,
:06:42. > :06:47.Hagino second, Seto third. Needs to focus on Seto, Kalisz good win his
:06:48. > :06:56.first individual honour but Hagino closing in. Looks like Kalisz hazard
:06:57. > :07:00.at the moment, Hagino, Max Litchfield is charging, it's going
:07:01. > :07:08.to be very tight for bronze, gold goes to the USA, Kalisz, silver goes
:07:09. > :07:16.to Hagino of Japan and the bronze I can tell you has gone to the Olympic
:07:17. > :07:19.bronze medallist of China Wang. Great Britain is Max Litchfield in
:07:20. > :07:27.fourth, just outside the medals. Good swim however. What a lot of
:07:28. > :07:32.pressure on his shoulders, Kalisz, seven times previously the Americans
:07:33. > :07:38.have run this event, Michael Phelps calls him his little brother, they
:07:39. > :07:51.have trained together in Baltimore. He had to be focused. Really well
:07:52. > :07:56.off the blocks. They are so good, they always have been, the
:07:57. > :07:59.Americans, around the walls. If you can get ahead on the scales all the
:08:00. > :08:05.way through the event of the swimming takes care of itself.
:08:06. > :08:30.Look at that. Gold! Very good indeed. Confirmation of the results.
:08:31. > :08:36.So close for Max Litchfield, really thought he was going to sneak a
:08:37. > :08:41.medal, how frustrating is that? We were screaming our heads off, it was
:08:42. > :08:45.so close but even if he swam the British record he would still have
:08:46. > :08:50.finished fourth so I think he will be fine with that, his main event is
:08:51. > :08:55.still to come, he is better at the 400 medley and hopefully he will put
:08:56. > :08:58.in a great performance. It is three good solid swims. Coming here he
:08:59. > :09:06.would have just been trying to make the final, he had a good shot, it
:09:07. > :09:11.was Wang spoiling the party, tiny bit unfortunate but three great
:09:12. > :09:18.swims, very happy. The last 205I was a bit confused because you were both
:09:19. > :09:25.screaming -- the last 25 I was a bit confused. He has a really good
:09:26. > :09:32.freestyle leg, butterfly and breaststroke are probably his
:09:33. > :09:35.weakest. I think they are things he will take away and work with now,
:09:36. > :09:40.they keep talking about the fact they are on this plan to Tokyo and
:09:41. > :09:45.what a great start, fourth last year at the Olympics, I think he is
:09:46. > :09:50.definitely one to watch for Tokyo. A lot of improvements he can make, we
:09:51. > :09:55.watch swimming all day and you could see a relaxed swimmer and a relaxed
:09:56. > :10:00.technique, his technique is a bit stiff, I think he can work on his
:10:01. > :10:05.flexibility. The timing on seemed completely out which is good as that
:10:06. > :10:16.is something he can work on. He's playing catch up. Let's hear from
:10:17. > :10:20.him. He's which Arron Davies. -- he's which Arron Davies.
:10:21. > :10:27.Horrible position that one. That's where we came last year and it's
:10:28. > :10:32.there again, coming into this event, coming forth I would not have
:10:33. > :10:37.thought that coming in here. Three times, cannot really complain. Just
:10:38. > :10:45.look like you ran out of water which is promising for the 400. Yes, we
:10:46. > :10:51.always battled to be strong. Happy with that time. Slower than I have
:10:52. > :10:55.been the last couple days but cannot be disappointed with that. Which of
:10:56. > :11:00.the 3-D fancy catching up with later? All of them! Brilliant
:11:01. > :11:11.answer. Thank you. Commiserations to Max Litchfield,
:11:12. > :11:18.next up the women's 100 metre freestyle semifinal featuring Freya
:11:19. > :11:21.Anderson, she is only 16 so this is all about experience, one lady with
:11:22. > :11:27.a lot of experience is Bronte Campbell. What sort of form they
:11:28. > :11:34.think you are in bearing in mind the injuries and downtime after Rio?
:11:35. > :11:39.It's hard to pick, I don't really know, I normally have a pretty good
:11:40. > :11:46.idea of what I am capable of but I couldn't give a prediction, which is
:11:47. > :11:50.exciting when it is a blank slate you just go and see which you can
:11:51. > :11:54.do. There probably should be pressure but I don't feel any
:11:55. > :12:01.pressure, it's more just trying to see exactly what I can give. Time
:12:02. > :12:07.for the women's 100 metre freestyle semifinals.
:12:08. > :12:22.COMMENTATOR: What a semifinal this is, Olympic gold medals in three,
:12:23. > :12:30.four, five and six. Won the 50 and the 100 in London. Next to her, the
:12:31. > :12:35.Olympic champion from Rio, watch them go very fast indeed, I say out
:12:36. > :12:42.next, it's actually the Olympic champion on the 100 metre freestyle
:12:43. > :12:47.from Rio, 16 then, 17 now, Bronte Campbell in six. In lane one Freya
:12:48. > :12:51.Anderson of Great Britain. Here is the Olympic champion from the 50
:12:52. > :13:01.freestyle in Rio, this is going to be so quick. Blume sent a Danish
:13:02. > :13:06.record this morning, she was really fast and as you would expect from
:13:07. > :13:13.the Olympic 50 metres freestyle champion. The Canadian Oleksiak just
:13:14. > :13:17.has not been at the races this year, I don't think training has gone
:13:18. > :13:19.well. So many people to talk about, Bronte Campbell is faster this year
:13:20. > :13:41.and she was last year. The fastest woman in water in the
:13:42. > :13:46.world last year, Blume. Right at the top, Anderson, the 16-year-old
:13:47. > :13:58.British swimmer. Fourth fastest British swimmer now in the 100 free.
:13:59. > :14:03.The first semifinal, the big guns in three, four, five and six. Keep a
:14:04. > :14:07.lookout for Freya Anderson 16-year-old at the top for Great
:14:08. > :14:13.Britain. It would be great to see her do it here, Freya I know she is
:14:14. > :14:18.focusing more on the worlds, the world Juniors but how would it be
:14:19. > :14:25.for her to have a good swim here? Look at the pace from Blume, she has
:14:26. > :14:33.that easy speed but she's not having it all her own way here. Looking
:14:34. > :14:39.very good, still going well is the Olympic champion from London 2012 in
:14:40. > :14:43.lane three, maybe just coming through now, Bronte Campbell of
:14:44. > :14:49.Australia. It's going to be very tight, it is very tight. Not quite
:14:50. > :15:00.as fast as I thought it might be I have to say. Bronte Campbell second.
:15:01. > :15:06.Oleksiak third, Kromowidjojo fourth. Great news for Freya Anderson, she
:15:07. > :15:11.finished sixth but hard first time ever under 54 seconds which is
:15:12. > :15:18.outstanding. That bodes well for the world juniors later this month.
:15:19. > :15:27.Absolutely loaded semifinal that was. Some big guns and she was up
:15:28. > :15:33.against. Not sure what Blume did on the turn but she lost a couple of
:15:34. > :15:40.metres, it was a dogfight coming down the back 25. Bronte Campbell
:15:41. > :15:45.did not quite spot a finish. And that's only the first semifinal! We
:15:46. > :15:50.have another to go and it's going to be very competitive tomorrow night.
:15:51. > :15:52.It certainly is because in that one we have the new world-record holder
:15:53. > :16:10.and the new Olympic champion. Very good indeed by Freya Anderson.
:16:11. > :16:14.And there is the second semifinal and the new world record holder,
:16:15. > :16:23.Sarah Sjostrom, those in four. Olympic champion is in lane five,
:16:24. > :16:30.Simone Manuel. Sharron Davies caught up with Sarah Sjostrom earlier this
:16:31. > :16:33.week. Sarah Sjostrom, the defending
:16:34. > :16:38.champion and world record-holder, she is absolutely on fire. This lady
:16:39. > :16:42.has been winning medals at world level since was 15. Gold again and
:16:43. > :16:49.Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden gets the gold. The first few days were really
:16:50. > :16:53.good and I am really happy with the world record and the gold medal.
:16:54. > :16:58.Have you been working much more on your freestyle Daniel butterfly?
:16:59. > :17:03.Yes, I decided to work on my technique to become a better
:17:04. > :17:08.sprinter. It worked out pretty well. You have been around at this level
:17:09. > :17:13.for a long time because you started so young. Eight years ago I first
:17:14. > :17:17.got a gold medal in the World Championships and yesterday was my
:17:18. > :17:24.fourth gold medal in the 100 fly. I am happy about that. What takes you
:17:25. > :17:30.so inspired? I love being an athlete and it is more fun now than when I
:17:31. > :17:35.was 15. I am enjoying being a swimmer more than ever. And I am
:17:36. > :17:41.doing really well, but it is also the life outside competing and all
:17:42. > :17:49.these things that I really enjoy. After athletes do track and field
:17:50. > :17:56.they go up in distance and here you go down. We have to train more, we
:17:57. > :18:00.have to train for two hours, but we still only swim for 25 seconds, so
:18:01. > :18:06.it is a lot of training for the amount of racing we do. More medals
:18:07. > :18:13.this week? We will see. I have been very close to a world record in the
:18:14. > :18:17.50 metres. If I do a fast start and if I am still fresh at the end of
:18:18. > :18:33.the week, I am sure I can be close to the world record. There she is.
:18:34. > :18:38.51 put 71 -- 51.70 one. She is the new world-record holder and she has
:18:39. > :18:46.already won gold in the 100 fly. Who is to say she will not break this
:18:47. > :18:53.world record again? Right next to her is the Olympic champion.
:18:54. > :18:59.The second semifinal of the women's 100 metres freestyle. All eyes will
:19:00. > :19:06.be on Sarah Sjostrom. Steve, what are you expecting? She pulled out of
:19:07. > :19:10.the 200 metres freestyle where she is the Olympic silver medallist to
:19:11. > :19:15.concentrate on these sprint events and it is paying off. She is at the
:19:16. > :19:21.head of the race already. She did not have the best start. I think she
:19:22. > :19:26.might be taking it quite easy. She is half a second down on the speed
:19:27. > :19:31.she did two days ago. It must be nice to go like that, but it looks
:19:32. > :19:35.like she is working pretty hard, the yellow hat in the centre. To the
:19:36. > :19:40.left of her is Simone Manuel, wonderful to see her get gold at the
:19:41. > :19:46.Olympic games. But it looks like Sarah Sjostrom. It is just outside
:19:47. > :19:52.the world record. A much quicker second semifinal. Sarah Sjostrom
:19:53. > :20:02.wins it. The Olympic champion is second. Mallory Comerford is the new
:20:03. > :20:14.American record-holder. She is third. Emma Mckeon had a good race.
:20:15. > :20:19.That seconds semifinal was fast. Until this year America had not had
:20:20. > :20:25.anyone who had broken 53 seconds, but they are clearly doing it now. A
:20:26. > :20:38.great start from Manuel, the Olympic champion. I think Sarah Sjostrom was
:20:39. > :20:41.taking it a little bit easier, Andy. Why waste the energy when you can
:20:42. > :20:47.still swim within yourself and still qualify. I ask myself that every
:20:48. > :20:55.time I see Katinka Hosszu swim, but she just for it. Comfortable, easy,
:20:56. > :21:08.Sarah Sjostrom wins the second semifinal. It looked pedestrian.
:21:09. > :21:19.Let's have a look at the qualifiers. Emma Mckeon is in aid. Look at the
:21:20. > :21:25.cut-off. Freya Anderson is talking to Sharron Davies. A fantastic sub
:21:26. > :21:34.54, you must be pleased with that time. Yes, I am. I had been wanting
:21:35. > :21:38.to dip under for a while and it is good to go under. It must give you
:21:39. > :21:44.confidence going into the world Juniors later in the year. Yes,
:21:45. > :21:51.definitely. It is the first time we have made. Nowadays everybody is
:21:52. > :21:58.very told. I think being taller would help, that a lot of things
:21:59. > :22:03.like my size help, but I have got things to work on. Great to see you
:22:04. > :22:11.here and great that you have got things to work on because it means
:22:12. > :22:14.faster times. Thank you. A fantastic swimmer from Freya Anderson, another
:22:15. > :22:21.PB for her, but no place in the final unfortunately. Let's hear from
:22:22. > :22:26.Duncan 's got ahead of his final. This is a great opportunity and a
:22:27. > :22:31.great chance. Most years after the Olympics are slightly slower some
:22:32. > :22:36.would say and you can back that up as well. But with the times I have
:22:37. > :22:41.been doing this year I do not think Budapest will be that much slower to
:22:42. > :22:44.be honest. It is another great chance to race internationally and I
:22:45. > :22:53.have only raised internationally once at the Olympics. For me it is
:22:54. > :22:56.still relatively new. I have the 200 freestyle as well and the 100 free
:22:57. > :23:01.and I am looking forward to them. There are chances in both events.
:23:02. > :23:07.Yes, I am looking forward to going out and racing. I'm don't want to be
:23:08. > :23:17.the best in the world, I want to win a medal in the championships. To be
:23:18. > :23:21.the best in the world in March, nobody really knows who you are or
:23:22. > :23:25.nobody cares. It is all about winning medals at Championships and
:23:26. > :23:33.doing fast Times at major championships and doing what you
:23:34. > :23:40.want to do at major championships. And Duncan Scott is in lane seven.
:23:41. > :23:51.Probably a good lane for him outside the action expected in the centre.
:23:52. > :24:01.Steve, look at the size of his legs! He has been doing some leg presses.
:24:02. > :24:04.Absolutely massive. But the Frenchman is better known for his
:24:05. > :24:19.butterfly and he has turned his hand to the freestyle. He is not going to
:24:20. > :24:25.have it all his own way. Caleb Dressell is fast at the start. He
:24:26. > :24:31.cleared up this year posting ridiculous times that people do not
:24:32. > :24:34.think possible. There is another guy, Nathan Adrian, Olympic
:24:35. > :24:48.champion, he will fancy this as well. Duncan Scott will be one lane
:24:49. > :24:49.from the bottom of the screen. The start of Caleb Dressell have been
:24:50. > :25:07.just phenomenal. The final of the men's 100 metres
:25:08. > :25:12.freestyle. Look at the start from Caleb Dressell. You said he would be
:25:13. > :25:17.good, Steve, but I did not think it would be that good. That should not
:25:18. > :25:23.be physically possible. These are the fastest sprinters in the world.
:25:24. > :25:28.Down from him McEvoy has done the second fastest time in the world
:25:29. > :25:32.ever. He is the model of efficiency, the Australian looking good. Duncan
:25:33. > :25:38.Scott is doing well. He is a quarter of a second faster than he was to
:25:39. > :25:43.break the British record. In the centre it is Caleb Dressell and
:25:44. > :25:47.Metella is coming back. Now Caleb Dressell goes to the straight arm
:25:48. > :25:53.stroke and he is pulling away. Look at that. That is an outstanding
:25:54. > :26:03.swim. Oh, my goodness me, I did not think he would go that quick. It is
:26:04. > :26:08.a new American record. He has won by about seven tenths of a second. It
:26:09. > :26:14.is gold and silver to the USA. Gold medal to Caleb Dressell and silver
:26:15. > :26:22.to Nathan Adrian. Metella gets the bronze for France. Duncan Scott was
:26:23. > :26:28.fifth. It was so close. I am finding it hard to get my head around how
:26:29. > :26:32.good his skills are. There is no weight Caleb Dressell is the fastest
:26:33. > :26:40.swimmer, but he destroyed them on the start and at the turn as well.
:26:41. > :26:46.He is away so well of those blocks. It is his underwater work that gets
:26:47. > :26:51.him out ahead. There is no doubt he is a fast swimmer, Andy, but he
:26:52. > :26:57.makes about half a yard coming off that turn. His butterfly leg kick is
:26:58. > :27:00.so strong underwater in that streamlined position that it just
:27:01. > :27:12.propels him forward. It meant so much to him as well. World champion.
:27:13. > :27:19.Bash! And Nathan Adrian and it is gold and silver to the USA. Metella
:27:20. > :27:35.gets the bronze. Seven tenths of a second for victory, that is massive.
:27:36. > :27:40.That is amazing. Hard lines for Duncan Scott. Full
:27:41. > :27:47.credit for his attitude. Coming into this he said he was not complacent.
:27:48. > :27:51.Where was that one? The start. Use Caleb Dressell before the race and
:27:52. > :27:55.he did jump up and he is a bit like Zebedee. In all the races he
:27:56. > :28:02.destroys people. The only person I have seen get near him is Ben Brown.
:28:03. > :28:05.Duncan Scott is with Sharron now. You mentioned earlier that this is
:28:06. > :28:10.only your second senior international. You have been in
:28:11. > :28:13.great spirits. I know you are disappointed because it is not as
:28:14. > :28:22.fast as you can go, but very consistent. Yes, definitely. I was
:28:23. > :28:27.not producing the best time I can do in a final, but that is the way it
:28:28. > :28:33.is. I do not know what the splits were. It is another good opportunity
:28:34. > :28:40.and experience and I hope I can go on in the future. We have got the
:28:41. > :28:44.200 and men's relay and we are excited about that. That is
:28:45. > :28:49.tomorrow, a new day and James showed more reform in that 100 fly and that
:28:50. > :28:53.is nice to see. We have got some of the boys who have not swum yet and
:28:54. > :29:00.they will be fresh and they will be good and I am looking forward to it.
:29:01. > :29:08.Understandably disappointed. You look at his times and he posted the
:29:09. > :29:13.fastest 100 in the world. But it is hard to remember he is very new on
:29:14. > :29:18.this big international scene. And he is only 20 years of age. But we said
:29:19. > :29:24.before the race that he is very slight. I feel like I need to give
:29:25. > :29:28.him a burger or something. We have seen it happen with Adam Peaty and
:29:29. > :29:33.then proud where all of a sudden they become these beasts and their
:29:34. > :29:39.physique changes and I feel like that will happen with Duncan. He
:29:40. > :29:44.will always be slight. Sprinting middle-distance is a different build
:29:45. > :29:48.and a different make up. And you look at Caleb Dressell and Metella
:29:49. > :29:52.and they are big men and it was almost like a boy against big men.
:29:53. > :29:56.That is not to say you cannot compete. He has made huge
:29:57. > :30:02.improvements. He has acknowledged the fact that he is slight and
:30:03. > :30:06.McEvoy is slight. Do you need to be bulky? You need more strength. I am
:30:07. > :30:13.not saying you need to be bulky. With bulk it creates more resistance
:30:14. > :30:19.and it is a lot more streamlined. That comes with age as well. He is
:30:20. > :30:23.only 20 and his power and weight ratio is amazing already otherwise
:30:24. > :30:28.he would not be in that field. He will naturally get stronger as he
:30:29. > :30:33.gets older anyway. You cannot question the strength of Adam Peaty.
:30:34. > :30:35.He has done the double double and Mark Foster and Stephen Parry have
:30:36. > :30:43.been looking back at his achievements.
:30:44. > :30:53.World champion, two very special words. Two words every champion
:30:54. > :30:59.wants to hear after learning. A lifetime of training. Very few make
:31:00. > :31:03.it. But every now and then someone very special comes along. Someone
:31:04. > :31:11.who pushes harder and breaks new ground. At 20 Adam Peaty became a
:31:12. > :31:17.world champion. Adam Peaty has got it on the very last stroke. For most
:31:18. > :31:25.that is the dream. Adam Peaty is not like the most. He took it in his
:31:26. > :31:31.stride as if he knew he was always destined for the mantle. And one was
:31:32. > :31:40.not enough. Adam Peaty has his second gold medal. Double world
:31:41. > :31:44.champion at 20 years old. Hungry for more he occupied himself with the
:31:45. > :31:54.pursuit of more medals. Olympic gold for Great Britain. Fast forward to
:31:55. > :32:01.Budapest, a city rich in history. Adam Peaty has destroyed the rest of
:32:02. > :32:06.the world. World title number three, the best in the world by some
:32:07. > :32:14.distance. Distance and time. Not just the best in the world now but
:32:15. > :32:21.the best in the world ever. There goes project 25! That is phenomenal!
:32:22. > :32:31.After dominance. Like a lion hunting its prey. Adam Peaty is relentless.
:32:32. > :32:36.Onto the next one. And history beckons. This is quite amazing,
:32:37. > :32:45.brilliant breaststroke swimming. He's done the double double. World
:32:46. > :32:46.champion, two very special words. The double bubble and outstanding
:32:47. > :32:57.achievement. Clearly impressed but here is the
:32:58. > :33:04.head of the fan club. To be here at this time means the world to me.
:33:05. > :33:11.It's very touching. I could not go and see him in Rio but this has made
:33:12. > :33:17.up for everything. I am so, so pleased I have come. 20 years since
:33:18. > :33:29.I have flown but it was worth it. That is of course Adam Peaty is Nan
:33:30. > :33:35.and she went to everybody's hearts last year after becoming a Twitter
:33:36. > :33:41.celebrity. The American national anthem playing out to celebrate the
:33:42. > :33:45.winner of the men's 200 metre individual medal. No medal for
:33:46. > :33:51.Britain's Max Litchfield then but he will be in the pull later on. Now an
:33:52. > :34:01.opportunity for one of our girls to get on the podium, we'll be talking
:34:02. > :34:06.about Georgia Davies in second but a word on Nana, you love her don't
:34:07. > :34:10.you? Absolutely, and this is what makes athletes normal, Adam Peaty is
:34:11. > :34:15.just a boy from Uttoxeter that loves to swim. He used to be frightened of
:34:16. > :34:22.the water but with his family and coach he has become a legend of the
:34:23. > :34:27.sport. I love his Nan because last year at Rio she was filming with his
:34:28. > :34:34.iPad and I said to not worry, we will send you the footage. They are
:34:35. > :34:40.so proud of him, he is such a family boy and so humble. We saw Nana on
:34:41. > :34:47.the plane, she was so excited. I think that is why we are so proud of
:34:48. > :34:53.our British boys in the British team, you could see the same about
:34:54. > :34:57.Ben Proud, you can see what a nice young man. You see the human side of
:34:58. > :35:02.it, we've mentioned it a lot, but the family play a huge part. It's
:35:03. > :35:06.nice for them to come and watch because they are part of the journey
:35:07. > :35:11.and it is these special memories, you go and do stuff and you are in
:35:12. > :35:15.another place. Right here right now we are team Georgia Davies, ready to
:35:16. > :35:25.go in the women's 50 metres backstroke final. Let's hear from
:35:26. > :35:29.her. Rio had ups and downs for me, as a team literally the most
:35:30. > :35:34.fantastic team to be part of, to come away with the PB at an Olympic
:35:35. > :35:39.Games which I am told only a small percentage of people do, I was
:35:40. > :35:45.really pleased. It showed me my training has been paying off. I have
:35:46. > :35:49.kind of clicked how I want to swim my race and pacing and things like
:35:50. > :35:55.that have come together which is exciting. Doing lifetime best times
:35:56. > :36:03.and I am really loving what I do, travel the world with cool people.
:36:04. > :36:04.It certainly seems like she is enjoying herself in Budapest, this
:36:05. > :36:21.is her semifinal from last night. COMMENTATOR: Georgia Davies of Great
:36:22. > :36:25.Britain. One length backstroke. Only six tenths of seconds split in this
:36:26. > :36:30.entire field after the heat this morning, Georgia Davies started
:36:31. > :36:35.quite slowly, relatively, really came through in the second half,
:36:36. > :36:39.looks good, needs to have a good last ten here, Georgia Davies and
:36:40. > :36:46.the Black Hat, going well, needs a good touch and she has got one. She
:36:47. > :36:49.has won. That is very, very good indeed, just outside the
:36:50. > :36:55.Commonwealth record. Another British record for her. It was nice to be
:36:56. > :37:00.able to come back a few days after a little bit of disappointment and
:37:01. > :37:05.turn things around. It's a personal best time which I have not done
:37:06. > :37:09.since Glasgow. I have kind of wanted a best time for a while now and I am
:37:10. > :37:16.pleased to get it here. You mentioned after the 100 you still
:37:17. > :37:20.love the 50, it's a lot of fast arms going and you took the scalp of a
:37:21. > :37:26.number of girls known for their fast 50s. Yeah, the depth here is
:37:27. > :37:30.incredible, I knew especially being in the first semifinal you cannot
:37:31. > :37:35.leave anything behind because especially after the 100 when the
:37:36. > :37:39.second semifinal was so fast and I missed out, I just wanted to go as
:37:40. > :37:47.fast as I could tonight and hopefully get myself a place in the
:37:48. > :37:51.final. We'll be keeping our fingers good luck.
:37:52. > :37:57.In her individual event she is faster than ever but particularly
:37:58. > :38:07.over this distance does it present an opportunity to get among the
:38:08. > :38:12.medals? I think absolutely, I think she has a good shout of getting
:38:13. > :38:19.third,, when it comes to them, if she can get her stuff right she has
:38:20. > :38:25.a chance of getting third. You always see the 50 is a lottery. It
:38:26. > :38:32.is a splash and dash, either tactics involved? Just go as fast as you
:38:33. > :38:36.can. Anything can happen so best of luck. Best of luck indeed, Georgia
:38:37. > :38:43.Davies in the women's 50 metres backstroke.
:38:44. > :38:54.She goes in lane six, the fastest two in four and five, hard to see
:38:55. > :39:03.past Medeiros and Fu and I think the bronze will be between baker and
:39:04. > :39:07.Davies. I agree, I think gold and silver have gone but Georgia Davies
:39:08. > :39:14.could back up the Commonwealth Games gold medal of three years ago with a
:39:15. > :39:24.major honours year. A couple one hundredths of a second separating
:39:25. > :39:26.the times. One other item, cut the 27 barrier here, could the world be
:39:27. > :39:41.under threat? Georgia Davies three from the bottom
:39:42. > :39:46.in the black hat of Great Britain. In the heats and semifinals she
:39:47. > :39:51.started well, build it through, in the centre it is the powerhouses in
:39:52. > :39:56.four and five, Medeiros and Fu, Medeiros with a very good start for
:39:57. > :40:01.Brazil, it's extraordinarily good from Medeiros, she is going well but
:40:02. > :40:06.really close in five, Fu coming through, Georgia Davies needs to do
:40:07. > :40:12.a bit of work to get a medal, it is tight, looks like it might be
:40:13. > :40:17.Medeiros, one 100th of a second, Brazil gets gold, the first of the
:40:18. > :40:25.championships by one 100th of a second, Fu of China the second and
:40:26. > :40:30.in lane one Herasimenia get bronze, did not see that coming at all.
:40:31. > :40:37.Georgia Davies a little of her best, finishes eighth. I think Georgia
:40:38. > :40:41.Davies will be gutted with that, going in as she was, fourth, coming
:40:42. > :40:46.out eighth, a couple of tenths of a second down on where she was last
:40:47. > :40:51.night. Medeiros breaking the dominance China have hard over this
:40:52. > :40:54.event, they have won three of the last four, what a meet the
:40:55. > :41:00.Brazilians are having over 50 metres. Look at that finish, for all
:41:01. > :41:05.your life looks like Fu but Medeiros must've just put enough pressure on
:41:06. > :41:15.the pad earlier. She has got some guns, I would not mind those! It did
:41:16. > :41:17.look like the Chinese woman's arm went first but the stretch of the
:41:18. > :41:30.Brazilian, Medeiros gets gold. Commiserations to Georgia Davies,
:41:31. > :41:33.understandably she will be disappointed, coming into this in
:41:34. > :41:38.the individual events she has been going really well, could the relay
:41:39. > :41:42.last night have had an effect? She put the blame on herself last night
:41:43. > :41:45.for the next medley that if she had gone have a second quicker but if
:41:46. > :41:51.they had all gone quicker they could have done it. You done live it
:41:52. > :41:55.affected her confidence. It's not 1 million miles of what she did last
:41:56. > :42:00.night but over 50 metres it's huge. Let's hear from her now.
:42:01. > :42:05.It's about making every single element work in the 50 and to me it
:42:06. > :42:11.looked like the start wasn't quite right. Definitely that is true,
:42:12. > :42:16.everything has to be spot on because there is no room for error, the race
:42:17. > :42:22.is over in a blink. I will have to watch it back because I cannot see,
:42:23. > :42:28.when I'm doing the race all I know is it felt good but obviously the
:42:29. > :42:37.time did not reflect that. Eighth in the world, not the worst result ever
:42:38. > :42:41.but I know I am capable of more. The Commonwealth 's next year, great
:42:42. > :42:45.track record and this was almost an Olympic event, how disappointed I
:42:46. > :42:50.view it did not make the programme? Very disappointed, I love the 50 and
:42:51. > :42:54.I definitely think for spectators as well they are interesting to watch
:42:55. > :42:59.because it's always so close, you never know who's going to win. If
:43:00. > :43:04.you get one little thing wrong it can be anybody's race. So I think
:43:05. > :43:09.it's a shame they have not been put in but maybe next time.
:43:10. > :43:16.The really is no margin for error in the 50, commiserations Georgia
:43:17. > :43:23.Davies, let's turn our attention to the men's 200 metres breast stroke,
:43:24. > :43:28.can Ross be the boss? What is it about breaststroke at the moment? I
:43:29. > :43:33.have no idea, I picked a good time to start coming in at it. There is
:43:34. > :43:37.so much depth now, it's getting so tough. We are seeing people make
:43:38. > :43:42.teams and then miss out on the last couple of years. Just because there
:43:43. > :43:46.are so many people, if you're having a bad day somebody immediately fills
:43:47. > :43:52.the gap. There is no room for error in breaststroke in Britain any more.
:43:53. > :43:58.You have to be on your best. How important is this year to you? There
:43:59. > :44:01.to say last year was a bit of a roller-coaster. Last year was a
:44:02. > :44:05.weird one, did not have a great trials and then an amazing European
:44:06. > :44:10.Championships and then not a great Olympic games so it was a
:44:11. > :44:13.roller-coaster. It left me in quite a bad place after Rio and it took a
:44:14. > :44:18.long time to recover mentally from that. I am happy I made the World
:44:19. > :44:22.Championships, it was important to make the first senior team so I it's
:44:23. > :44:26.good I started the cycle the way I wanted.
:44:27. > :44:34.COMMENTATOR: On his day Ross Murdoch is absolutely brilliant, the fastest
:44:35. > :44:40.qualifier in this one, look out for the Olympic champion in two, and
:44:41. > :45:12.lane seven. The Russian in lane one Koseki is
:45:13. > :45:21.ranked number two in the world. On the Balandin, Kazakhstan have never
:45:22. > :45:26.won a medal at the Olympics. Pulls out a win at the Olympics, amazing.
:45:27. > :45:32.This is a really great event this year in the men's two and metres
:45:33. > :45:36.breaststroke, they are all bunching around the 2.0 eight, mark putting
:45:37. > :45:45.pressure on the world-record that has already gone this year. Only 18
:45:46. > :45:49.years of age, and he's a big unit as well, Qin, very tall which is
:45:50. > :45:55.unusual for a breast stroke swimmer. I like the look of Ross Murdoch and
:45:56. > :45:59.I like his comb over, got himself ready to look good! He disappeared
:46:00. > :46:06.for a couple of years after he shook Michael Jamieson in Glasgow in 2014,
:46:07. > :46:11.but then could not make the team in 2015 or 2016 in the event and for me
:46:12. > :46:18.it was a big shock. There are years. He looked great this morning.
:46:19. > :46:29.It is a very different stroke, the 100 of Adam Peaty and this stroke.
:46:30. > :46:34.An ex-Olympic champion said Adam Peaty had invented a new stroke. It
:46:35. > :46:38.does not look like breaststroke, it looks like submerged butterfly
:46:39. > :46:42.recovery. You will see them really stretching out on this 200 metres
:46:43. > :46:48.breaststroke. I thought they would be away by now, but Ross Murdoch is
:46:49. > :46:56.taking his time. He must be applying some fake tan! Ross Murdoch from
:46:57. > :47:04.Scotland. The first semifinal of this men's 200 metres breaststroke.
:47:05. > :47:09.The Commonwealth champion is the fastest seed for this semifinal. The
:47:10. > :47:20.Olympic champion will be one length at the top of your picture up in
:47:21. > :47:27.lane two. That is Koseki. It was Qin of China. Lots of controversy about
:47:28. > :47:31.these underwater strokes on the breaststroke. They are allowed one
:47:32. > :47:35.butterfly kick underwater. There was a little bit of an undulation
:47:36. > :47:40.motion, but this seems to be all sorts of problems with it at the
:47:41. > :47:46.moment. I think they are all doing too many butterfly kicks underwater.
:47:47. > :47:53.You can see it in the sprint events. Koseki looks great. He is under
:47:54. > :47:58.world record pace by four tenths of a second. Ross Murdoch is nicely
:47:59. > :48:02.position. This morning he really worked his way into it. If the
:48:03. > :48:08.Japanese get it right, they could very well go one, two. They could in
:48:09. > :48:17.the final because in the second heat is the world record holder. But this
:48:18. > :48:22.is the first semifinal. Koseki of Japan looking very good. One lane up
:48:23. > :48:26.from him is Matthew Wilson of Australia, the 18-year-old. Ross
:48:27. > :48:31.Murdoch is a third of a second behind at the halfway turn. That is
:48:32. > :48:37.quite a lot faster than the heat this morning. He really did build it
:48:38. > :48:43.from here. Andy, he is looking good from here. Look at the power he has
:48:44. > :48:48.got in his legs. That transported him forward. He will want to start
:48:49. > :48:53.to get home over the second 50. I have never seen him looking this
:48:54. > :48:59.good sense of the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Come on, Ross, let's nail
:49:00. > :49:07.this turn. He is only two tenths of a second off world record pace. He
:49:08. > :49:13.is 1.2 seconds and his record pace. He has only got one job to do here,
:49:14. > :49:19.to make it through to the final. The rest of the field might be starting
:49:20. > :49:22.to catch him up a bit. Koseki looks like he is going well. Ross Murdoch
:49:23. > :49:29.is holding onto this stroke very well. It is his own Commonwealth
:49:30. > :49:36.record. He eased up a little bit down the last 50. Just four tenths
:49:37. > :49:41.of a second outside of his Commonwealth record, but job done.
:49:42. > :49:47.You would take that all day, every day. He has laid down a statement of
:49:48. > :49:51.intent and he knows how to raise. Stick him in the mix tomorrow night
:49:52. > :49:56.in one of those centre lanes and he will know what to do. That is a
:49:57. > :50:03.funny celebration. I have never seen that before! Ross Murdoch really
:50:04. > :50:11.made the move over the third 50. He looked very strong. The guy he was
:50:12. > :50:14.up against in lane seven, Koseki, he was not messing about. He has done
:50:15. > :50:25.the second fastest time in the world this year. But Ross looks good. Ross
:50:26. > :50:29.looks very good indeed. The champion Balandin only came in in sixth. That
:50:30. > :50:36.it is all about time, so in theory he could make the final. But it is
:50:37. > :50:43.not going to happen. Ross Murdoch was brilliant. They are the
:50:44. > :51:02.semifinalists for the second semifinal. It includes Koch, the
:51:03. > :51:07.defending world champion. We have some big guns in the outside lanes
:51:08. > :51:14.in this breast wrote. Ross Murdoch is talking to Sharron Davies.
:51:15. > :51:19.That looked fantastic. You must be very happy with that. Yes,
:51:20. > :51:24.fantastic. I love racing in this event, it is so much fun, so many
:51:25. > :51:36.different ways to do it. It is always nice to get a touch and heat.
:51:37. > :51:41.It is fun. It was 60.15. Was it? We were excited at one stage because
:51:42. > :51:47.you were close to the world record pace. Really? I was discounting my
:51:48. > :51:52.case. I saw somebody on the side out in front and I let them do their
:51:53. > :52:06.thing and I stuck to my guns and it paid off. Good luck for tomorrow.
:52:07. > :52:14.Thank you very much. And here is the big man, Kevin Cordes. Watanabe is
:52:15. > :52:19.the world-record holder. He was only sixth in the Olympic Games, but came
:52:20. > :52:25.back in January this year and broke the world record. If he does that
:52:26. > :52:32.again, he will win. This is the Olympic bronze medallist from
:52:33. > :52:38.Russia. In this 200 breaststroke they have got big guys all over the
:52:39. > :52:49.place. The defending world champion is in lane one. I did give a little
:52:50. > :52:55.fist pump when I found the Olympic champion was out. It just gives our
:52:56. > :53:00.guy by chance. But Watanabe is an interesting character. He seems to
:53:01. > :53:04.do it when the pressure is not on. I cannot imagine he slept very well in
:53:05. > :53:10.the Olympics because he did a time in the semifinals that would have
:53:11. > :53:18.won the games. You can do that. Take your jewellery off, it is just going
:53:19. > :53:22.to slow you down! You shave your body and you leave your necklace on.
:53:23. > :53:29.It must be worth a tenth of a second.
:53:30. > :53:37.Second semifinal of the men's 200 metres breaststroke. In the centre
:53:38. > :53:45.is the Olympic bronze medallist from Russia. Watanabe is right in the
:53:46. > :53:48.centre. They are beautiful long breaststroke strokes, such a
:53:49. > :53:54.different technique to the one Adam Peaty has perfected. I cannot get
:53:55. > :53:59.him out of my head, I cannot imagine what he would go if he turned his
:54:00. > :54:06.hand to the 200 metres. I know it has been muted. Cordes has got his
:54:07. > :54:10.act together this year. Just under world record pace. He has not been
:54:11. > :54:17.the most consistent, but he dominated at the American trials. He
:54:18. > :54:20.won the 50, the 100 and the 200. He is in great form. Look at that
:54:21. > :54:44.stroke, look at the pause. Chupkov will have to press on now.
:54:45. > :54:52.This is where they wind it up. This is where we saw Ross Murdoch go. But
:54:53. > :54:56.the Japanese does not seem to be in the same form that he was in
:54:57. > :55:05.January, in lane five. Cordes will be brimming with confidence. It is a
:55:06. > :55:10.strange event. The big guys, some of them do really well and some of them
:55:11. > :55:15.have an absolute stinker. The world champion is at the top with a white
:55:16. > :55:19.hat and he is from Germany. The demise of the Germans in the
:55:20. > :55:23.swimming pool has been phenomenal. Now coming through is Watanabe.
:55:24. > :55:30.Maybe this is the first time we have seen this stroke. First class, he is
:55:31. > :55:37.picking up the stroke, but Chupkov once some of the action. He has come
:55:38. > :55:42.down very quickly in the last 25. That is only half a second outside
:55:43. > :55:50.the world record. Chupkov left it really late. He is already getting
:55:51. > :55:56.out. I wonder whether he is going to have a crack at the world-record
:55:57. > :56:01.tomorrow night in the final. Well, the necklace did not seem to work
:56:02. > :56:04.against him! It was brilliant. European record and a competition
:56:05. > :56:11.record and to me he did not even seem to turn it on until he had 50
:56:12. > :56:17.to go. He was not hang about. He just wanted to get out of the water.
:56:18. > :56:22.He did not even put his hands together for the entry. You want to
:56:23. > :56:33.be streamlined in that position. He is just such a beautiful stroke. I
:56:34. > :56:37.love them extending it out and maximising the stroke. Again not to
:56:38. > :56:41.streamlined off the wall. That will be a right old ding-dong tomorrow
:56:42. > :56:54.night. Ross Murdoch seems well-positioned, though. He went
:56:55. > :56:59.20.70 seven. But nothing to worry about. So a new championship record
:57:00. > :57:10.for Anton Chupkov of Russia. World-record holder was second.
:57:11. > :57:16.Ross Murdoch of Great Britain will be going in as third fastest and he
:57:17. > :57:24.will be right next to Chupkov. That will be interesting.
:57:25. > :57:29.So, Ross Murdoch in that 200 metres breaststroke final tomorrow night.
:57:30. > :57:36.How excited are you about that? Ross looked absolutely fantastic. It is
:57:37. > :57:41.really nice to see him back in the event that he loves. When he was
:57:42. > :57:47.speaking to Sharron I think he said the word fun about four times. I
:57:48. > :57:51.have never said that. It is amazing to see him back where he belongs and
:57:52. > :57:58.in the environment that he loves and I can't wait to see him tomorrow
:57:59. > :58:03.night. And the thing is it hit the nail on the head, the enjoyment
:58:04. > :58:07.factor. He has had a roller-coaster and it left him right down at the
:58:08. > :58:16.end of the year. 2014 in Glasgow he ruined Michael Jamieson's race
:58:17. > :58:21.because Michael Jamieson went in as the poster boy. Then all of a sudden
:58:22. > :58:29.the focus was on him. But he did not have that great a year. But now he
:58:30. > :58:34.is enjoying swimming again. There are so many different ways to swim
:58:35. > :58:37.the race. You look at the other guys, Cordes is really long and
:58:38. > :58:42.Watanabe and Chupkov are smaller swimmers. There are so many
:58:43. > :58:46.different ways and when it comes to the final there will be a lot of cat
:58:47. > :58:51.and mouse and a lot of playing around. We look forward to that
:58:52. > :58:57.final tomorrow night. Tonight we have still got Molly Renshaw to
:58:58. > :59:04.come, but let's talk about some fine British specimens. We had a bit of a
:59:05. > :59:12.fun race, a media race, coming into tonight's competition. We had Nick
:59:13. > :59:18.Ho, Rebecca Adlington, Steve Parry and Karen Pickering. Let's join the
:59:19. > :59:24.race in the third leg. Becky Adlington, this double Olympic
:59:25. > :59:29.champion. This is good stuff, very impressive stuff. I did not expect
:59:30. > :59:34.this. They were out carbon loading last night and they did a super job
:59:35. > :59:39.with the Pizzini. Is that what we call it? Rebecca Adlington was the
:59:40. > :59:51.first to put her hand up for this race and when it was mentioned she
:59:52. > :59:58.was in. Will Perry be the weak link? Perry might be the weak link. But he
:59:59. > :00:04.is having a go. This could be victory for the BBC. Steve Perry is
:00:05. > :00:11.in three and he is catching the Americans in four. It is gold! He is
:00:12. > :00:19.exhausted. Not a bad effort at all. The Americans went and the Japanese
:00:20. > :00:24.get second. Japan win, NBC second and the BBC are very credible third.
:00:25. > :00:29.I feel like a proud mother of a dysfunctional family. Mark Foster
:00:30. > :00:36.would have been in this, but he did not enter.
:00:37. > :00:44.Gin and tonic worked well. It is the key, in the drinks bottle. We were a
:00:45. > :00:50.bit worried you might have done a false start, it was difficult to get
:00:51. > :00:55.the weight back on to the blocks once you started leaning. What you
:00:56. > :00:58.don't understand is I was probably the only one taking it
:00:59. > :01:02.professionally, these other three did not turn up for the training
:01:03. > :01:05.camp and I am upset, I know we are one team but these three were
:01:06. > :01:10.terrible, they should have taken more seriously. It's all about
:01:11. > :01:14.marginal gains and they are a disgrace. I feel for you but I am
:01:15. > :01:22.proud of your team. I don't know what he's talking
:01:23. > :01:30.about, he could not even find his way to the pool. The American
:01:31. > :01:33.national anthem ringing out again. I love the idea that he had been on a
:01:34. > :01:46.training camp, he clearly did not stick to his diet! Saucer of milk.
:01:47. > :01:50.We have two pick you up on a little something the judges may have
:01:51. > :01:56.noticed, if we can go back and have a little look at the changeover, you
:01:57. > :02:08.may notice you are very keen to get off the blocks, are you concerned it
:02:09. > :02:20.was a DQ? That's good. You have to be competitive. Did you enjoy the
:02:21. > :02:30.experience, you seem to take it quite seriously? I thought mark was
:02:31. > :02:35.quite rude about my relaxed muscle, I was totally focused on the event
:02:36. > :02:40.and what a joy it was. I was just disappointed we could not bring back
:02:41. > :02:43.the win, Andrew has been talking about a bad back all week but I have
:02:44. > :02:49.not seen it, you looked in fine fettle. It suddenly got really bad,
:02:50. > :02:53.maybe a mass hours later. I thought you were great, when you got the
:02:54. > :03:00.weight just over the edge and suddenly, the momentum all the way
:03:01. > :03:04.down. That was just the laws of physics, I could not bring the
:03:05. > :03:10.weight back once it started to go. Those are the ones talking about the
:03:11. > :03:13.weight, not me. Adam Peaty has been talking about equilibrium all week,
:03:14. > :03:19.maybe Steve needs to get the balance a bit better? We have been pulling
:03:20. > :03:33.his leg Alde, congratulations Becky, you took part. I thought we were
:03:34. > :03:39.going to get into the final. Let's talk about one of the stars of the
:03:40. > :03:45.weekend, Katinka Hosszu, after her victory on Sunday she caught up with
:03:46. > :03:51.Sharron, this is what she had to say. How does it feel having this
:03:52. > :03:55.crowd, they are so noisy? It's incredible, I walked out and it is
:03:56. > :03:59.unbelievable. Hungarian swimming in a good place a lot of that is down
:04:00. > :04:03.to you, and you are no trailblazing for international swimmers to make
:04:04. > :04:11.it more professional, it is close to your heart? Definitely, swimming has
:04:12. > :04:16.huge potential. We have seen me can have 22,000 fans in the stadium and
:04:17. > :04:21.they go crazy so I think if we put more effort we can definitely go
:04:22. > :04:27.further. Very brave, well done. Thank you so much. For viewers who
:04:28. > :04:34.are not dedicated swimming fans can you explain what they are on about
:04:35. > :04:39.not to put it to simply it is a swimmers union? Yes, swimming is not
:04:40. > :04:46.that professional, you do not get in it to make money. She feels very
:04:47. > :04:51.strongly that everyone has their own view but she's trying to get it made
:04:52. > :04:57.professional. I cannot hear a thing any more, sorry. I think this crowd
:04:58. > :05:02.agreed. That is Katinka Hosszu coming out, that is what the crowd
:05:03. > :05:05.are cheering for and that is the atmosphere she alluded to, it's a
:05:06. > :05:11.crowd pleaser, people understand it and it's easy to follow. This place
:05:12. > :05:16.has been packed out every night. CHEERING
:05:17. > :05:20.They have a great history in this sport and the love they are
:05:21. > :05:29.swimming. Last night she had the 200 final before this race, half an
:05:30. > :05:35.hour. CHEERING Back-to-back is pretty hard and I am
:05:36. > :05:39.not going to write her off because I think it's this event and she known
:05:40. > :05:47.as the iron Lady and she is the toughest swimmer I have seen. Hah
:05:48. > :05:50.and her husband have celebrity status, they keep saying to not ask
:05:51. > :05:55.me anything because I cannot hear you. Let's hand over to our
:05:56. > :06:00.commentators, sorry we were being cheeky!
:06:01. > :06:08.The final is wide open for me, Katinka Hosszu goes in lane seven,
:06:09. > :06:31.all May the 6th fastest qualifier. No one has looked fantastic so far
:06:32. > :06:36.at this Championships. Another German who is the fastest in the
:06:37. > :06:42.world this year but based on the form of the team I cannot see her
:06:43. > :06:47.pulling it out. This may be her only chance of gold. I am not sure that
:06:48. > :06:52.pressure works in her favour. The rest of her compatriots have not
:06:53. > :06:57.done it, can she turn it around? She has qualified the fastest. The
:06:58. > :07:02.Chinese, 24 years of age, fifth in the Olympics last year. Would you
:07:03. > :07:09.bet against the iron Lady, Katinka Hosszu? The crowd is behind her,
:07:10. > :07:16.it's not favoured event but she does have medals in it at the European
:07:17. > :07:18.Championships 2010, 2014 and of course she won in 2012 so maybe she
:07:19. > :07:29.can do it. The final of the women's 200 metres
:07:30. > :07:33.butterfly is very hard to call, nobody has shown anything special so
:07:34. > :07:38.far, some brilliant swimming at this World Championships and so far maybe
:07:39. > :07:39.this is one of the weakest. The first final without an American.
:07:40. > :07:53.Interesting. Silence for the start. The cheering
:07:54. > :08:01.when the gun went off was extraordinary, two Hungarian women,
:08:02. > :08:07.lane one and Katinka Hosszu in lane seven, Katinka Hosszu has gone off
:08:08. > :08:16.reasonably quickly. She had a great start, great work from her. They are
:08:17. > :08:25.all in a line here. The 21-year-old Korean has started well, we'll help
:08:26. > :08:32.each other's year. Really good underwater work from lane four. A
:08:33. > :08:41.master tactician, the Olympic champion in lane three, she knows
:08:42. > :08:44.how to pace the race. Looking decent but I have to say Katinka Hosszu
:08:45. > :08:49.closest to us as well one line from the bottom in lane seven looking
:08:50. > :08:56.very good indeed and I think she might turn first, she has done. The
:08:57. > :09:03.crowd has gone nuts. The Olympic champion turned second just about.
:09:04. > :09:10.The pink city Olympic champion. The fastest in the world this year,
:09:11. > :09:18.Hentke of Germany. Still going well, Katinka Hosszu. The first woman to
:09:19. > :09:23.ever win a gold medal for Spain is showing her class here but Katinka
:09:24. > :09:25.Hosszu will not quit, she is so tough. Surely she does not have
:09:26. > :09:40.enough to real in the Olympic champion now? . What a turn that was
:09:41. > :09:47.from Katinka Hosszu, but Belmonte has done a brilliant 1500 metres,
:09:48. > :09:54.the German coming back, Hentke, coming back, Hentke, can she get the
:09:55. > :10:06.touch? Belmonte and three, Hentke and four, the gold goes to the
:10:07. > :10:11.Olympic champion Belmonte. A wonderful bronze, I have to say
:10:12. > :10:14.that's a brilliant bronze for Katinka Hosszu, qualifying sixth,
:10:15. > :10:22.she's got a massive smile on her face, the world champion, Belmonte
:10:23. > :10:27.gold at the World Championships to go with the Gold she got in Rio last
:10:28. > :10:38.year and a huge celebration from Katinka Hosszu for the bronze. That
:10:39. > :10:41.young lady is going to swim about seven the half thousand metres this
:10:42. > :10:47.week with all the races she is doing but brilliant, silver medal in the
:10:48. > :10:53.1500 with a gold medal on the 200 metres butterfly. Tactically it was
:10:54. > :11:02.brilliant, she knew exactly when to go. She was getting run down on the
:11:03. > :11:06.last 25 metres. Hentke. Neither of them had good finishes to be honest
:11:07. > :11:12.but one of them chose to glide, the other chose to take another stroke
:11:13. > :11:21.and jammed it. She was surprised she won. What did she think when she was
:11:22. > :11:23.gliding in? Come to me, Wall, that is what she was thinking! Perhaps
:11:24. > :11:46.not as plate is that! Let's give Belmonte respect she
:11:47. > :11:52.deserves before we get into a interview where the crowd will
:11:53. > :11:58.erupt. Belmonte very dominant. She is Olympic champion, second in the
:11:59. > :12:03.1500, so much back end, you knew when she came off the back while it
:12:04. > :12:13.got close but because she does 1500 she has so much in Juventus. I think
:12:14. > :12:16.you'd think the whole zoo, she -- Katinka Hosszu, I did not think she
:12:17. > :12:25.would win but it was a phenomenal race. This place is going crazy.
:12:26. > :12:38.It's nice to see the swimmer getting respect. The last 25 metres Belmonte
:12:39. > :12:45.in three, it came down to these last few strokes, it was going to be
:12:46. > :12:50.about to hit the wall right, Belmonte gliding in and Hentke
:12:51. > :12:53.taking an extra jab, the race was won before that last bit but we've
:12:54. > :12:58.seen races in the past one and lost by those tight finishes. Definitely.
:12:59. > :13:04.CHEERING It is every time I talk, they do not
:13:05. > :13:07.want me talking tonight! But I think Belmonte used the crowd, you could
:13:08. > :13:16.see her getting faster and faster and building it up, I think you
:13:17. > :13:21.could tell the crowd helped her. It's one of the nastiest races and I
:13:22. > :13:28.mean that in this sense, you're talking about, if you get the pacing
:13:29. > :13:35.wrong it really, really hurts. Have you ever done in a 200 metre flight?
:13:36. > :13:42.I did one when I was 15. I think we are building up to a challenge. The
:13:43. > :13:46.Hungarians love Katinka Hosszu and we love Brendan Foster and ahead of
:13:47. > :13:50.the world gliding Championships next week there is a documentary
:13:51. > :13:55.celebrating his career before he hangs up his microphone. Here's what
:13:56. > :14:03.you can expect. It's a simple story, local lad. When I think about him I
:14:04. > :14:09.just have two smile. Brendan Foster is a great athlete. What he achieved
:14:10. > :14:13.on the track was incredible. Gold medal for Great Britain,
:14:14. > :14:18.devastating. We have always had great competitors but few have gone
:14:19. > :14:21.on to put as much back as he has. He's a Geordie and he's great.
:14:22. > :14:33.Everybody loved him. The world athletics starts a week
:14:34. > :14:45.tomorrow in London and it features this guy. London, are you ready? Mo
:14:46. > :14:52.Farah wins the gold! It's going to be Dafne Schippers! Laura Muir
:14:53. > :15:00.smashes the British record! Usain Bolt! I'm ready!
:15:01. > :15:09.Next up in Budapest we have got the women's 200 metre breaststroke
:15:10. > :15:11.semifinals, two Brits, Joslin Ulyett and Molly Renshaw, let's hear from
:15:12. > :15:29.Molly. It is good to have new faces on the
:15:30. > :15:34.team after rear. How difficult is it with all the new talent now? It has
:15:35. > :15:39.kept me on my toes. It keeps me training hard and I cannot get
:15:40. > :15:44.comfortable with what I am doing because there are always people
:15:45. > :15:55.coming through. What is the target for Budapest? I would love to get
:15:56. > :16:02.into 2.22, VB and a 2.21, and get on the podium. Molly Renshaw was
:16:03. > :16:13.fastest coming into this qualifying heat. How impressed with you are you
:16:14. > :16:18.with her so far? She came third at the trials and it shows how much
:16:19. > :16:22.breaststroke in the UK for females is moving on. Chloe was fourth last
:16:23. > :16:27.year and she could not make the team this year because it was that close.
:16:28. > :16:31.But Molly is going from strength to strength and she will be trying to
:16:32. > :16:36.claw back her British record. One of the things we saw this morning is we
:16:37. > :16:40.have seen some really good heat. When it gets into the semifinals
:16:41. > :16:44.there are 16 people and to make the final of the eight, with the times
:16:45. > :16:50.this morning, she has got a lot more left and so have the others.
:16:51. > :16:56.Pedersen and King have all been down at 2.19, so she has to move things
:16:57. > :17:02.up. She is in a great lane and is in good form. We have got some really
:17:03. > :17:08.good 200 metre breaststroke swimmers and she could get under 2.22 and set
:17:09. > :17:11.herself up for the semifinal. You have been talking about the depth
:17:12. > :17:17.that we have and that is where Jocelyn Ulyett comes into it. She
:17:18. > :17:21.put on a fantastic performance and that is how she got into the team
:17:22. > :17:24.and has been speaking to Nick. How important are these World
:17:25. > :17:31.Championships and what do you want to get out of them? They are
:17:32. > :17:35.important to me because it is my first time representing GB and my
:17:36. > :17:40.first international meat. I want to enjoy it and have fun and go in with
:17:41. > :17:44.the same mentality and learn as much as I can and observe and absorb
:17:45. > :17:49.everything in the environment. There's talk about Jocelyn all yet.
:17:50. > :17:55.She is one of the younger members of the team coming through hot on the
:17:56. > :18:01.heels of Molly Renshaw. She is 21 years of aid which is not massively
:18:02. > :18:07.that young. We talk about Adam being young and he is only 22. Females are
:18:08. > :18:14.different. Lilly King is 20 and she picked up the gold medal. But what
:18:15. > :18:20.Nick has done with her is incredible. He is a bit like Mel
:18:21. > :18:24.Marshall, a young coach, but a young coach of passionate about the sport.
:18:25. > :18:29.We have heard she has been injured for the past couple of months. We do
:18:30. > :18:36.not know how, but she has had a few niggles. She was four seconds off
:18:37. > :18:43.her personal best time in the heats. But it is just the heats. That is a
:18:44. > :18:48.big drop from the trials. You go to a major meat and let's face it we
:18:49. > :18:55.all go and we want to do our best time, but it does not always happen.
:18:56. > :18:59.Not everyone is Adam Peaty, who gets a world record every time he jumps
:19:00. > :19:06.into the pool. She just has to do what she can do, she is injured. She
:19:07. > :19:09.has got a bright future. When we talk about the ages and we talk
:19:10. > :19:20.about the 200 fly with content causing and Del Monte, she will be
:19:21. > :19:26.24 in Tokyo and 2.22 is a very competitive time. There is plenty of
:19:27. > :19:31.quality in terms of the rest of the world. Here is a reminder of what
:19:32. > :19:41.happened earlier in the week. Let's join the race in the last 50.
:19:42. > :19:48.Lilly King is setting the pace. Not on the world record pace at this
:19:49. > :19:56.stage. Yulia Efimova has a tremendously fast finish. The
:19:57. > :20:03.Olympic champion from Rio, Lilly King, is going very fast and she is
:20:04. > :20:07.powering down this second 50. Coming back really quickly is Yulia Efimova
:20:08. > :20:12.from Russia, but it looks like Lilly Kane. She is the Olympic champion
:20:13. > :20:19.and now she is the world champion. That is a new world record for Lilly
:20:20. > :20:26.King of the USA. What a wonderful swim. A fantastic start. A very good
:20:27. > :20:30.first 50. She has just realised she has got the world record and the
:20:31. > :20:37.gold medal. Yulia Efimova just cannot believe it. And out of a
:20:38. > :20:42.quality in terms of worldwide women's breaststroke, but talk about
:20:43. > :20:49.the characters. Lilly King, Yulia Efimova, we will be seeing them
:20:50. > :20:53.tonight. It is a controversial event and Lilly King has been one of the
:20:54. > :21:05.more outspoken people. She did not even shake Yuli's hand. It is
:21:06. > :21:09.understandable. Lilly King wants to be the cleanest and the best in the
:21:10. > :21:14.sport and she wants to get on the podium. This morning she wanted to
:21:15. > :21:23.make a statement. When someone does something wrong, everyone says it is
:21:24. > :21:28.not right, but she has done her time and she is now clean so to speak and
:21:29. > :21:32.she has just got to swim. Let's turn our attention to the women's 200
:21:33. > :21:37.metres breaststroke semifinal and in the first one we have got Joslyn all
:21:38. > :21:47.yet and in the second semifinal we have got Molly Renshaw.
:21:48. > :21:55.Joslyn all yet will be in lane one. She has been injured and it will be
:21:56. > :21:59.tough to repeat her record. Lilly King of the USA, the new world
:22:00. > :22:04.record holder on the 100 metres breaststroke. Gold and silver for
:22:05. > :22:11.the American University Championships. It was King and
:22:12. > :22:16.Smith. Jessica Vall swam well in the heat this morning. She looked very
:22:17. > :22:26.smooth. Yes, the Spaniard looked very smooth and she will be going
:22:27. > :22:30.next to Lilly King. She was so passionate, Lilly Kane, when she
:22:31. > :22:35.beat Yulia Efimova and one the gold medal. She has vastly improved under
:22:36. > :22:41.200 metres breaststroke. She did not even make the final last in Rio. But
:22:42. > :22:46.if she could get a medal tomorrow night, that would be impressive. It
:22:47. > :22:54.is a good chance to get some experience for Joslyn all yet.
:22:55. > :22:58.Looking forward to seeing how she can do, maybe building on the
:22:59. > :23:04.experience and confidence she will get from being in this World
:23:05. > :23:11.Championship semifinal. That will be for the Commonwealth Games and for
:23:12. > :23:17.2020. The first semifinal of the women's 200 metres breaststroke. The
:23:18. > :23:28.world record-holder in the 100, Lilly King in the centre. The black
:23:29. > :23:33.hat and the Black suit of Lilly King in lane four. Just a bully it is at
:23:34. > :23:36.the top for Great Britain. It is a very good start from King. A
:23:37. > :23:43.completely different tempo from the men's event. They are all about
:23:44. > :23:48.distance per stroke. Although Lilly King is very efficient, her turnover
:23:49. > :23:53.is very higher. The efficiency and the higher turnover results in the
:23:54. > :23:58.gap that is opening up at the moment. She is going down well. She
:23:59. > :24:06.will have oodles of confidence after the win in the 100. Is that because
:24:07. > :24:10.she did not have any before? It comes out of every pore. She is only
:24:11. > :24:17.20 years of age but very serious. On the right-hand side of the screen,
:24:18. > :24:21.Joslyn all yet will benefit from having the Olympic bronze medallist
:24:22. > :24:25.next to her. When you are in that position you cannot see anything
:24:26. > :24:32.beyond that lane next to you and I hope that is a benefit for her.
:24:33. > :24:39.Joslyn all yet is ahead at the moment of Lilly King. She is!
:24:40. > :24:46.Jinglin Shi was the first to turn. Joslyn all yet was second. Lilly
:24:47. > :24:50.King, having built her up an awful lot, she does not look great and
:24:51. > :24:56.Kierra Smith of Canada is starting to come through. She will be
:24:57. > :25:02.thinking to herself, I am not doing very well. Hopefully she has an
:25:03. > :25:12.understanding that she is doing well. Joslyn all yet does not look
:25:13. > :25:16.injured to me. She is just a second behind the Olympic bronze medallist.
:25:17. > :25:22.If she can keep this pace together, she will be through to the final.
:25:23. > :25:27.Kierra Smith from Canada is starting to turn it on. Come on, Joslyn all
:25:28. > :25:33.yet. This is brilliant from her. She is starting to catch up from Jinglin
:25:34. > :25:38.Shi in China. We were talking about her having an injury. But the rest
:25:39. > :25:45.of the field are now starting to charge. Joslyn all yet is getting a
:25:46. > :25:57.bit tired. If she can finish fourth it could be useful because King does
:25:58. > :26:03.not look good. Jinglin Shi wins it. Lilly King did not look great in
:26:04. > :26:11.fourth. Oh, my goodness me, Lilly King of the USA beat Joslyn all yet
:26:12. > :26:20.by one 100th of a second. It is very good. Very good indeed. King was
:26:21. > :26:27.awful. She may not make the final. That might be a huge one 100th of a
:26:28. > :26:33.second. I think that would definitely knock out the Brit. But
:26:34. > :26:45.she did ever so well. Let's wait for the second semifinal because it is a
:26:46. > :26:53.decent one. It will be very close. This is all about getting in there.
:26:54. > :26:59.She just jammed it a little bit. King finishes on a full stroke which
:27:00. > :27:06.is helpful. The result of the first semifinal of the women's 200 metres
:27:07. > :27:13.breaststroke. Joslyn all yet could still make the final. A decent swim
:27:14. > :27:18.from Joslyn all yet. How confident are you that will get her into the
:27:19. > :27:23.final? I do not think she will get in, but you never know. It might be
:27:24. > :27:28.that 100th of a second that might make the difference. The second
:27:29. > :27:33.semifinal featuring Molly Renshaw will be on the Red Button. If you
:27:34. > :27:41.want to see her race, you need to push your Red Button now. That is
:27:42. > :27:48.where the coverage continues. If you want to see the world swimming
:27:49. > :27:53.Championships tomorrow you can. You can also see Luke Greenbank on the
:27:54. > :27:57.Red Button. You can also download the podcast. Thank you very much for
:27:58. > :28:01.your company this afternoon. We will see you over on the Red Button where
:28:02. > :28:02.there are
