:00:33. > :00:38.Hello and welcome to Budapest. It is going to be a brilliant night of

:00:39. > :00:42.racing this evening. Some of the biggest stars in world swimming will

:00:43. > :00:49.be in action. Alongside the brilliant Brits! Here's what's

:00:50. > :00:58.coming up. Will Ben be proud tonight? Our world

:00:59. > :01:04.champion is in action. Molly Renshaw leads the Bristol charge.

:01:05. > :01:13.And Lochte on a global stage and can the British boys hang on to their

:01:14. > :01:17.title in the men's four by 200 relay? Some big races and

:01:18. > :01:22.opportunities for British swimmers to get on the podium. Big

:01:23. > :01:27.characters, where to begin? I am looking forward to Ross Murdoch

:01:28. > :01:33.in the 200m breaststroke. A great race. Ben Proud in the semifinal.

:01:34. > :01:38.Who will be the fastest man on the planet.

:01:39. > :01:41.And obviously the 4x200m. That will be amazing.

:01:42. > :01:46.The British boys are looking to defend their title. It will be a

:01:47. > :01:51.tough one. On paper one team could win it but does it matter in an

:01:52. > :01:57.environment like this on a stage like this? No, it changes on a night

:01:58. > :02:03.like tonight. Rankings mean nothing. It is who can step up to the

:02:04. > :02:09.occasion, who can handle the nerves? It will be a great race.

:02:10. > :02:15.The women's 100m freestyle final, some of the biggest names are in the

:02:16. > :02:20.line up. It is a hit. You have everything, the Olympic

:02:21. > :02:27.champion in lane one. Two Olympic champions when there was a tie at

:02:28. > :02:39.the Paralympic Games. The Canadian over in lane seven. The world

:02:40. > :02:44.champions in there, and Shoshum. I have to lean in to hear what you

:02:45. > :02:48.are saying, that is because once again the Hungarian crowd are going

:02:49. > :02:53.crazy. They are loud, proud and rightly so.

:02:54. > :03:07.Now, let's go over for the women's 100m freestyle final.

:03:08. > :03:10.Welcome to the greatest field. The women's 100m freestylers ever

:03:11. > :03:15.assembled. Each one is or has been an Olympic world champion.

:03:16. > :03:20.They have been introduced into the crowd.

:03:21. > :03:26.In lane seven, Ehud Olmert. Tied for gold. That was Bronte Campbell, the

:03:27. > :03:37.defending world champion. Here, Pernille Blume of Denmark.

:03:38. > :03:43.And gold in the 50m freestyle. And Steve joins me, and there is Sarah

:03:44. > :03:49.Sjostrom. Sandwiched by two huge Americans.

:03:50. > :03:53.And there was one of them, Mallory Comerford.

:03:54. > :03:57.Mallory Comerford is the US record-holder at the moment.

:03:58. > :04:02.She is 19 years of age. There is Simone Manuel. She tied at the

:04:03. > :04:06.Paralympic Games. She will not want to let that title go - being the

:04:07. > :04:11.best in the world. But I think it will happen. Just look at this lady.

:04:12. > :04:19.She broke the world record earlier this year.

:04:20. > :04:28.Andy, she went under 52 seconds. Breaking it in the 100m women's

:04:29. > :04:33.freestyle. If she is going sub-52, I think that the gold is her's. The

:04:34. > :04:37.last time an American won this World Championship was 19 years ago, it

:04:38. > :04:41.was Jenny Thompson. The last time man and a woman,

:04:42. > :04:47.American, won gold, Caeleb Dressel, of course has won the men's already,

:04:48. > :04:53.it was 28 years ago. So, the greatest field of women.

:04:54. > :04:58.100m freestylers ever assembled, the final of the World Championships

:04:59. > :05:02.here in 2017 in Budapest. The fastest qualifier, the new world

:05:03. > :05:07.record-holder, Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden. The rest of them are

:05:08. > :05:16.absolutely sensational sprint freestylers.

:05:17. > :05:21.Sarah Sjostrom in the centre for Sweden. A good start from Ranomi

:05:22. > :05:26.Kromowidjojo. The Olympic champion from four years

:05:27. > :05:31.ago in London 2012. There, look as Sarah Sjostrom. Making mince meet of

:05:32. > :05:36.the reigning Olympic champion. I feel she has benefitted this year.

:05:37. > :05:40.She benefitted from dropping the 200 freestyle from the programme. She is

:05:41. > :05:45.under world record pace at this stage. The time she did earlier in

:05:46. > :05:51.the week. Can the field hang with her? She is powerful. Working really

:05:52. > :05:55.hard in the 25 metres. There is Simone Manuel coming back well. She

:05:56. > :05:59.was the first black woman to win gold in the swimming pool. She is

:06:00. > :06:03.looking good here. Simone Manuel is coming here. This is tight. I think

:06:04. > :06:09.that Simone Manuel could get it. Simone Manuel is the first black

:06:10. > :06:13.woman ever win! The first championship title in the 100m

:06:14. > :06:18.freestyle in any event in the World Championships! Can you believe that!

:06:19. > :06:23.Gold in Rio last year. Now the world champion! I cannot believe that

:06:24. > :06:31.happened. She swam it absolutely perfectly. 4100ths, is the gap

:06:32. > :06:37.between the gold and the silver, between Simone Manuel and Sarah

:06:38. > :06:43.Sjostrom. That is a massive shock. Well, no-one in the building in more

:06:44. > :06:48.shock than Sarah Sjostrom. It was looking so good up to 60

:06:49. > :06:53.metres. She had a great start. When she came in here, she was faster

:06:54. > :06:57.than on the relay. She has had two days off. How can sheing tired? But

:06:58. > :07:04.look there, no extension on the stroke. And a great finish, a great

:07:05. > :07:08.finish from the Olympic champion. Andy, she really wanted it, didn't

:07:09. > :07:13.she? I don't think that the concentration was there.

:07:14. > :07:18.That is Pernille Blume, she has the bronze medal. What a surprising

:07:19. > :07:22.finish that was. She doesn't look that excited.

:07:23. > :07:30.Simone Manuel, you are the Olympic champion! She is too tired to have a

:07:31. > :07:38.smile. Come on, now! What a shock. Simone Manuel, the Gold Medal.

:07:39. > :07:42.Sarah Sjostrom, the silver medal. Pernille Blume, the bronze.

:07:43. > :07:51.Well, guy, did you see that one coming? I'm shocked. Speechless.

:07:52. > :07:56.Sjostrom is faster on paper. As we discussed, the paper is irrelevant.

:07:57. > :08:02.How can you swim slower four days later? I know what did happen over

:08:03. > :08:07.the first 25 metres. She didn't breathe. Why? The bottom line is

:08:08. > :08:12.when you get into the race it is all about the oxygen. You don't,

:08:13. > :08:18.don't... You can see it in the middle of the pool. You can't see

:08:19. > :08:24.from the angle but she has her head down and breathes on the red marker

:08:25. > :08:27.here. You go into oxygen debt. You build up lactate. That is something

:08:28. > :08:32.you don't do. She is under her world record. Out

:08:33. > :08:36.really well but you look down the second length, she is controlling

:08:37. > :08:41.the race here. And Simone Manuel did her race. She sat off the lane rope

:08:42. > :08:48.and swam off her. Is that a mistake or a new tactic?

:08:49. > :08:54.She came second, of course it was! I don't know what she did breaking the

:08:55. > :09:00.world record. I can't fault what she did but she was half a second slower

:09:01. > :09:04.in the second lap. Looking in the water, she is going backwards. That

:09:05. > :09:08.is an elephant on the back, you are gone and fighting to get to the wall

:09:09. > :09:14.because the lactate is setting and there is nothing you can do.

:09:15. > :09:21.Well, next up is the men's 200m backstroke final. Ryan Murphy is

:09:22. > :09:30.going in this one but Xu Jiayu qualified fastest.

:09:31. > :09:35.Let's see what happened. So, the final of the men's 200

:09:36. > :09:43.backstroke. Again, we've had so many fascinating races. This is yet

:09:44. > :09:49.another. Up until this World Championships, Xu won gold on the

:09:50. > :09:54.100. And he is fastest seed on this 200m backstroke. Surely he cannot do

:09:55. > :09:59.the double? It means so much to him. Xu missed out in the Paralympic

:10:00. > :10:05.Games. He didn't get a medal. He was sixth, that must have stung. But the

:10:06. > :10:14.main protagonists are back in. Ryan Murphy, the Olympic on the 100 and

:10:15. > :10:17.the 200, he was really upset. So, Xu, Ryan Murphy and Evgeny

:10:18. > :10:22.Rylov, who is very, very quick indeed.

:10:23. > :10:26.Murphy was upset after the 100. He was spitting down there in the

:10:27. > :10:32.mix-on afterwards. He doesn't want to lose both of the titles he won in

:10:33. > :10:36.the Paralympic Games last year. When he was leading off the American

:10:37. > :10:41.mixed medley relay, he did a time that would have won a gold on the

:10:42. > :10:48.individual? I don't know how that happens. You have to have a big

:10:49. > :10:56.match temptment to make it happen. Here is the local favourite. Peter

:10:57. > :11:00.Bernek of Hungary, the European champion off the 200 backstroke five

:11:01. > :11:04.years ago. And this guy, oh, Ryosuke Irie, the

:11:05. > :11:10.World Championship Silver Medallist in 2009 and 2011. He came to London

:11:11. > :11:19.in 2012, and got a silver. Mr Silver he is. Can he get a gold. And Jacob

:11:20. > :11:26.Pebley from the USA. Fifth in Rio. He swims with a great team and his

:11:27. > :11:32.team-mate, Ryan Murphy is in five. I love Kliment Kolesnikov. He is 17

:11:33. > :11:37.years of age. He trains with Evgeny Rylov.

:11:38. > :11:42.Both of them are training with James Gibson, a great British swimmer with

:11:43. > :11:46.working with a lot of the Russian guys.

:11:47. > :11:52.So, two club mates, Jacob Pebley and Ryan Murphy from the usa. Here is

:11:53. > :11:59.Ryan Murphy. He looks nonchalant. He has the head phones on. Here he is

:12:00. > :12:03.giving a little bit now. He just looks a little pedestrian to me.

:12:04. > :12:07.Just a little too coal. I would love to stick a rock up... And wake him

:12:08. > :12:15.up a little bit. This guy is a rocket. Fantastic,

:12:16. > :12:22.last night we saw Xu go off like a rocket. Underworld record pace at

:12:23. > :12:28.the halfway mark, I wonder if he was testing the pace for the first 100?

:12:29. > :12:33.It felt to me the case. There was an insane record here.

:12:34. > :12:39.1.51. But he was challenging the marker. He has a beautiful stroke.

:12:40. > :12:42.But this man here, Murphy, the Olympic champion if he gets the

:12:43. > :12:48.pacing wrong, he will be there to take the gold.

:12:49. > :12:54.There is callish any could've with a another necklace. I don't understand

:12:55. > :12:58.that, you shave your body, get rid of the hairs and then leave a speed

:12:59. > :13:04.bump around your neck. I'm dying to know how much this is

:13:05. > :13:08.slowing him down. If you shave your body, why oh, why are you leaving

:13:09. > :13:15.your jewellery on? It's a total mystery! So, a final of the men's

:13:16. > :13:25.200m backstroke at the World Championships. Can Xu do the double?

:13:26. > :13:31.The 100 an the 200. Oh! Xu did a little bit of bouncing,

:13:32. > :13:38.trying to anticipate the starter a little bit. By far the best start

:13:39. > :13:41.has come up in lane three from Evgeny Rylov of Russia. He is

:13:42. > :13:46.breathing down the first 25. Beautiful strokes. Evgeny Rylov in

:13:47. > :13:50.three, Xu in four. A little ragged is Ryan Murphy.

:13:51. > :13:55.There is a reason that Evgeny Rylov is the fastest in the world. He is

:13:56. > :14:01.capable of 1.53. He is not messing here. Look at that. A tenth of the

:14:02. > :14:11.second off the world record place. This will be a world-class race. The

:14:12. > :14:16.Russians are struggling. But Evgeny Rylov has to be careful. Xu and

:14:17. > :14:21.Murphy will be ready to pounce. And Xu he did a Evgeny Rylov in the

:14:22. > :14:29.semifinal. Evgeny Rylov is miles ahead. This is going to hurt. 54.5.

:14:30. > :14:36.The world record was 54.9. So he is under that. The rest of the field

:14:37. > :14:40.will start to charge. Ryan Murphy on the 200 has had better tactics.

:14:41. > :14:47.There are two races. I didn't expect this. Look at Evgeny Rylov. You hope

:14:48. > :14:51.he has not gone out too fast. Xu and Murphy are class acts down the last

:14:52. > :14:57.50. Surely Evgeny Rylov cannot hold on? He is trying though.

:14:58. > :15:01.Look at the gap between Evgeny Rylov and Xu. The leader is in the yellow

:15:02. > :15:07.hat. A lot of clear water between the two. Evgeny Rylov is holding off

:15:08. > :15:13.with 25 metres to go. Evgeny Rylov, the 20-year-old from Russia. The owe

:15:14. > :15:19.Olympic Games winner. But the black cap is coming back fast of Ryan

:15:20. > :15:25.Murphy. Have the wheels fallen off for Evgeny Rylov? 1.53.6 is the Gold

:15:26. > :15:30.Medal. It has gone to Russia, it has gone to Evgeny Rylov. And I can tell

:15:31. > :15:35.you the Russian comment Aitors in front of me are going berserk! The

:15:36. > :15:40.silver medal has gone to Jacob Pebley. Well, that is an interesting

:15:41. > :15:44.one. No, excuse me, to Ryan Murphy. He

:15:45. > :15:58.got the silver, Jacob Pebley the bronze. So it is Russia, gold, USA

:15:59. > :16:03.silver, USA bronze. Evgeny Rylov, often fortune favours

:16:04. > :16:08.the brave on the 200 events. And how brave was he over that first 50. Not

:16:09. > :16:13.messing about at all. I didn't think he could hold on. When you go, you

:16:14. > :16:17.go. But that 20-year-old, he deserves the plaudits. He came in as

:16:18. > :16:20.the number one in the world and he delivered.

:16:21. > :16:28.He's delivered a time faster than Ryan Murphy won the Olympics in last

:16:29. > :16:33.year that. Must have hurt so bad. Just watch the rest of the world

:16:34. > :16:38.come back at you. Ouch. He glided in as well. He really was exhausted.

:16:39. > :16:50.Well done, Sir. You've got to salute that. Massive guts. Pebley is

:16:51. > :16:56.happier than Rylov. He loved it. He won a bronze ahead of fourth

:16:57. > :17:00.position. There is the new world champion. The world champion is

:17:01. > :17:21.Yvgeny Rylov of Russia. That was a demonstration in

:17:22. > :17:24.dominance, wasn't it? I think most races we talk about it being so

:17:25. > :17:33.close, that was something else. What a swim. Let's turn to the same event

:17:34. > :17:38.but for the women. Emily Seabaum didn't have the Olympics she wanted.

:17:39. > :17:42.She's been talking to Sharon about her journey to Budapest.

:17:43. > :17:45.COMMENTATOR: She's come sixth, what a shocking Olympics she's had.

:17:46. > :17:52.Really disappointing, I'd like to know what's going on. Last year was

:17:53. > :17:55.really tough especially on myself physically and mentally. To come

:17:56. > :18:03.back into this and do so well, I'm really happy. I got diagnosed with

:18:04. > :18:07.end meet rose I in -- endometriosis in June last year. I couldn't do

:18:08. > :18:12.much about it until after Rio. I needed surgery. You've been

:18:13. > :18:15.competing at this level for such a long time...

:18:16. > :18:18.COMMENTATOR: That is brilliant, a 14-year-old taking on a world record

:18:19. > :18:24.holder. It's difficult not to have down years. I know and now being 25,

:18:25. > :18:26.being on the Australian swim team for 11 consecutive years has been

:18:27. > :18:31.really tough, but I love the challenge. I love swimming. This is

:18:32. > :18:36.why I do it. A lot of Australians that didn't get the results last

:18:37. > :18:40.year decided to take a chunk of time off. You took a bit of time off.

:18:41. > :18:44.Right decision? I don't know. I wanted to swim this year. I got all

:18:45. > :18:51.my surgery done December and January so I could be back in the water and

:18:52. > :18:56.make this meet and seeing where I'm at is pretty good. I did the world

:18:57. > :19:01.short course in December. After that, me and Mitch had a break and

:19:02. > :19:05.went to New York. I came home and got my surgery just after Christmas.

:19:06. > :19:17.It's been a long road of recovery and making sure that my health is

:19:18. > :19:22.100%. I think I'm doing pretty well. Being the soft hearted mummies we

:19:23. > :19:25.are - I meant Becky there not you - we have talked about how these guys

:19:26. > :19:29.are only human. How do you come back to such a high level when you've

:19:30. > :19:33.dealt with something so debilitating as surgery? The thing is especially

:19:34. > :19:37.in swimming you love your sport. You don't do it for fame or money or

:19:38. > :19:41.anything else. Obviously it's clear that Emily loves her sport. She said

:19:42. > :19:45.she wanted to get back in the water. I think all of us, to get up at 5am

:19:46. > :19:48.every morning, you've got to love what you do. I think it's really

:19:49. > :19:54.clear she does. It's great to see her back on form. She talks about

:19:55. > :19:58.being 25, Hosni is 28, she's not past her prime yet. Will she be

:19:59. > :20:02.looking for redemption because of Rio? Yeah, clearly we know that she

:20:03. > :20:07.can do it. She knows she can do it. The thing is you find we've all had

:20:08. > :20:13.it. When things are going well. Things are going swimmingly, I know!

:20:14. > :20:16.You took a long time to laugh back at me. Floated on the surface, but

:20:17. > :20:20.when things happen and we've all had an injury, you learn more about

:20:21. > :20:24.yourself in the bad times than the good times. It's always one of these

:20:25. > :20:27.things I say about in sport and life there's no such thing as failing. I

:20:28. > :20:30.always think about failing, you learn something about yourself. Then

:20:31. > :20:35.you come back stronger, hopefully. As you say, 25 years of age, she has

:20:36. > :20:47.a lot of time. That is why you are a motivational Speaker. Emily goes in

:20:48. > :21:01.the second semifinal. Get your ear plugs ready. Over to you.

:21:02. > :21:08.She won gold on that 200 medley, what a brilliant swim that was. A

:21:09. > :21:12.bronze on the 200 fly. The crowd actually one of the loudest noises

:21:13. > :21:17.is when the Hungarian men's team got a bronze on the four by 100 free.

:21:18. > :21:21.Extraordinary. Four of the finest from Rio in the first semifinal of

:21:22. > :21:44.the women's 200m backstroke. Just got a glimpse of 15-year-old

:21:45. > :21:50.Smith. I wonder if she's intimidated swimming next to Hosszu. She's going

:21:51. > :21:56.in five. She's 15 years of age. Next to her, not wanting to be outdon is

:21:57. > :22:01.the Aussie. -- outdone. They start young these days. Must have been

:22:02. > :22:09.training since they were eight. It is quite extraordinary. Born in

:22:10. > :22:13.2002. She's in the world championships semifinal. Off to the

:22:14. > :22:19.world juniors in a couple of weeks. This is the world seniors. Hosszu if

:22:20. > :22:24.four. -- in four. I have to say the heats this morning

:22:25. > :22:28.were not particularly fast. There's a lot of opportunity here for some

:22:29. > :22:34.people who may otherwise not get in the final to have a crack and beat

:22:35. > :22:37.some people maybe they shouldn't do. Hosszu, the world short course

:22:38. > :22:43.champion on the 200m backstroke. Decent start, in the centre in four

:22:44. > :22:47.for Hungary. Liking the look of Smith. One down from Hosszu, in

:22:48. > :22:55.between the yellow lane rope. 15 years of age, taking it to Hosszu,

:22:56. > :23:01.the Iron Lady. I'm not sure about Hosszu this week. She's won that

:23:02. > :23:06.Gold Medal on the 200m individual medley but she hasn't looked her

:23:07. > :23:10.usual dominant self. She was a second off her own world record, she

:23:11. > :23:14.set that at the Olympics to win the gold there. A second off her best

:23:15. > :23:18.there. She fought well on that 200 butterfly to win the bronze. I

:23:19. > :23:25.thought that was very good. Her best event may be still to come, this one

:23:26. > :23:29.and the 400 medley. First over is Caldwell, the bronze-medallist from

:23:30. > :23:34.the Olympic Games. Still going well is the 15-year-old Smith in five for

:23:35. > :23:39.the USA. Nothing better than unearthing new talent. The Americans

:23:40. > :23:44.have got one here in the 15-year-old Reagan Smith. She will go well at

:23:45. > :23:47.the world juniors. Hosszu is more of a power swimmer than a technician.

:23:48. > :23:54.She's having to work really hard here. Let's look at the wall and see

:23:55. > :24:00.where they go in and come out. Got to get that good leg kick in the

:24:01. > :24:05.water. Hosszu lost ground there. The Hungarian crowd won't like this.

:24:06. > :24:09.They're willing her on. She's in the centre of those three leaders at the

:24:10. > :24:17.top of there. Caldwell in the white hat leading. Coming back reasonably

:24:18. > :24:34.well down here in lane seven is Ustinova. She was fourth at the

:24:35. > :24:41.Olympic Games. Ustinova gets it, Smith second, McKeon third. Hosszu

:24:42. > :24:46.only fourth. She should be OK. It's all about timing from these

:24:47. > :24:51.semifinals. Oh, dear, look at that. Well there's the 15-year-old. She's

:24:52. > :24:59.going to make the world Championship senior final, aged 15. Well done.

:25:00. > :25:03.Big PB for her and a world junior record. No wonder she's crying. I

:25:04. > :25:07.thought she was too young for world juniors at 15. She's got a couple of

:25:08. > :25:11.years to have a crack at that. Didn't she take it on? Really good

:25:12. > :25:15.to see as well. Look at this under water. You can tell how tired the

:25:16. > :25:20.swimmers are. Hosszu would generally go further than that. But she's a

:25:21. > :25:25.little bit tired. And Ustinova snuck this. She was in lane seven. She was

:25:26. > :25:30.fourth last year at the Olympic Games. She's not bothered about

:25:31. > :25:34.looking at the screen, just looking at the roof. Ustinova was exhausted.

:25:35. > :25:52.But she won it. # #s Caldwell was fifth. Here's an

:25:53. > :26:06.interesting one then, Kathleen Baker goes in four for the USA.

:26:07. > :26:17.I wonder if we can see big names out of the final, every chance of it

:26:18. > :26:21.happening. Germany, Steve, how many Germans have you seen so far?

:26:22. > :26:32.They've been like an endangered species this week. One medal they've

:26:33. > :26:35.had. Talk about the fall from global dominance. They used to be

:26:36. > :26:43.brilliant. They swam generally awfully badly, one silver I think. I

:26:44. > :26:47.think you're going to have one of the Olympic medallists missing out,

:26:48. > :26:52.maybe two, Hosszu and Caldwell from the previous heat. There's no

:26:53. > :26:55.slouches in the second semifinal. What a blow that would be. There

:26:56. > :27:07.would be a riot in here if Hosszu doesn't make it through. Here's the

:27:08. > :27:13.new world record holder. What can Seebohm do? She keeps coming second,

:27:14. > :27:20.third, fourth and fifth. She is the defending world champion. That's one

:27:21. > :27:21.of few titles that she's won. Kathleen Baker, world ranked number

:27:22. > :27:41.one this year. In good form Kathleen Baker, got a

:27:42. > :27:45.Silver Medal on the 100 back. This morning she did lead, she looked

:27:46. > :27:49.strong this morning, only half a second off her best time. The

:27:50. > :27:55.Americans do generally go quicker through the rounds. Excellent

:27:56. > :27:59.racers. A shame I think, Lizzie Simmonds isn't here. She's such a

:28:00. > :28:04.great 200 backstroker. She's going well at the nationals. Yeah, she

:28:05. > :28:07.certainly is. I think she swam 59. 5 yesterday. That would have got her

:28:08. > :28:13.in the final here. Wonderful to see her back. With

:28:14. > :28:18.those kind of times, may well see her in the final. Who knows what she

:28:19. > :28:23.can do from there. Second semifinal of the women's 200m backstroke.

:28:24. > :28:31.Seebohm in five, Baker in four, Masse in three.

:28:32. > :28:40.So maybe expect Masse to go off a little bit faster, the new world

:28:41. > :28:44.record holder on the 100 backstroke. A decent start, that purple suit,

:28:45. > :28:48.the black head of Kathleen Baker, the fastest in the world this year,

:28:49. > :28:52.for the USA. Just look at them all there, all three of them in a line.

:28:53. > :28:58.No surprise there, they are the top three in the world this year. Baker

:28:59. > :29:04.turns first. She's got great underwater work. She's won the NCAA,

:29:05. > :29:09.she won three titles this year. You can't win that in America unless you

:29:10. > :29:10.are strong off the walls. Those university championships producing

:29:11. > :29:25.stunning stuff. Just off the world record pace at

:29:26. > :29:32.the moment. That was set by Missy Franklin. She came back so fast,

:29:33. > :29:37.amazing. So she's 0. 19 outside that split tomorrow. Masse going with her

:29:38. > :29:41.in second. Seebohm in third. This is only a semi. They have one job to

:29:42. > :29:45.do, make the final. They're pushing hard here. They're doing well these

:29:46. > :29:49.front three. Masse will want to make a statement here. She got gold on

:29:50. > :29:53.the 100 backstroke. You know, I think Hosszu and Caldwell, the

:29:54. > :29:56.Olympic medallists from the previous semifinal, they could be safe here,

:29:57. > :30:00.because the rest of the field is way adrift. What a great race

:30:01. > :30:04.developing. They're having a right old scrap at the front, head of the

:30:05. > :30:09.race here. Masse, the Canadian. Look at Baker, she says no. Seebohm wants

:30:10. > :30:14.some of the action. Seebohm swimming this very well. Let's hope she can

:30:15. > :30:16.do a similar swim tomorrow night in the final. These three will

:30:17. > :30:22.certainly make it through. Maybe working harder than they possibly

:30:23. > :30:27.need. To -- need to. It's good to Yu-Ling Hsieh working. -- good to

:30:28. > :30:34.see Seebohm working. This is going to be pretty good. It's a fast time.

:30:35. > :30:41.Wow! So, Emily Seebohm sets a new world fastest time this year to win

:30:42. > :30:49.the sec semifinal. . There you go, that's a little

:30:50. > :30:54.better, Emily! Second was the new world record-holder on the 100m

:30:55. > :30:58.backstroke, Kylie Masse. Kathleen Baker was third.

:30:59. > :31:09.And that was a much better swim. A much better semi-. I was expecting

:31:10. > :31:14.more of that, I have to say. Really great start from the guys

:31:15. > :31:19.there. I have just realised that Seebohm, the swim was so good, it

:31:20. > :31:24.matched her Commonwealth record time, 20. .581.

:31:25. > :31:28.Really good from Seebohm. She did well to get the surgeries out of the

:31:29. > :31:32.way. Look at that still head position. A brilliant technical

:31:33. > :31:37.stroke there. But she has the experience as well. I would not have

:31:38. > :31:42.thought she could have beaten these two brilliant backstrokers. We could

:31:43. > :31:46.well have seen the medallists for tomorrow night.

:31:47. > :31:52.That will be fascinating. I was expecting to see Hosszu on the

:31:53. > :31:59.podium. But Seebohm wins it, Masse is second, Baker is third.

:32:00. > :32:04.It is going to be tight for the qualifiers for the final. Seebohm is

:32:05. > :32:11.fastest. One, two, three from the second semi. And Regan Smith, a new

:32:12. > :32:21.world junior record. 15 years of age. A very emotional Regan Smith

:32:22. > :32:28.has caught up with Sharon Davies. Fantastic swim. A world junior

:32:29. > :32:33.record. You took it to them today! Oh, my God. This is so good. I'm

:32:34. > :32:39.having a great time here. Amazing. A fantastic year. Such big

:32:40. > :32:44.improvements? I didn't perform the way that I wanted to last summer. I

:32:45. > :32:50.tried to be motivated from that and work as hard as I could this year.

:32:51. > :32:55.I'm thrilled. It is lovely going in at 15, everybody is scared of you,

:32:56. > :32:59.you have nothing to lose! I'm trying not to put too much pressure on

:33:00. > :33:02.myself. Just to have a lot of fun with it. That's what it is all

:33:03. > :33:07.about. It is very exciting. Fantastic. Good

:33:08. > :33:12.to speak with you. 15-year-old Regan Smith talking with

:33:13. > :33:16.Sharon. Yes been talking about the effect that the atmosphere has on

:33:17. > :33:18.the younger athletes. You can see that everybody can react

:33:19. > :33:25.differently. It is a bit of a pressure cooker.

:33:26. > :33:30.She has such great examples on the stage. Katie Ledecky at 15 and a

:33:31. > :33:36.history of younger guys stepping up to perform. I don't think she fears

:33:37. > :33:42.anyone as she is in an amazing opportunity. And that will be a

:33:43. > :33:48.battle it was great to see Emily Seebohm back on form and going in

:33:49. > :33:54.for tomorrow night's final. Emily Seebohm is with us now. Let's

:33:55. > :33:59.hear from her. So nice to see you swimming, Emily, it has been a

:34:00. > :34:06.really challenging time? Yes, it has. I have spoken to you about the

:34:07. > :34:10.past, so it was nice to get out there and swim freely.

:34:11. > :34:14.And it must give you quite a lot of confidence? We were watching to see

:34:15. > :34:18.how it went. I thought it was a quick heat. But then our heat had to

:34:19. > :34:21.step it up. It couldn't get faster than that. It

:34:22. > :34:26.was close to your Commonwealth record? Yeah. We'll see tomorrow

:34:27. > :34:31.night. I'm excited to see what I can do. Have a rest in the morning and

:34:32. > :34:36.hopefully swim fast. Let's see. Good luck.

:34:37. > :34:45.Now he is world champion in the 50 fly. We will see in action this

:34:46. > :34:51.evening in the 50 free. Mark Foster has been talking about the

:34:52. > :34:57.brilliance of our boy, Ben. In Budapest, all of the talk has been

:34:58. > :35:03.about Adam Petey. What he has done has been pen foamal. He has done the

:35:04. > :35:08.double. But cast your mind back. Minutes after Petey stepped out on

:35:09. > :35:13.to the pool, another Britain was stepping out tonne the blocks. This

:35:14. > :35:19.was Ben Proud's third championships, he was leaving nothing in the tank.

:35:20. > :35:23.Blink and you may have missed it. Has he got the finish? I think he

:35:24. > :35:31.has. He has won the World Championship.

:35:32. > :35:40.Taking gold by a 0.04 of a second was amazing. In a stacked field that

:35:41. > :35:46.included Olympic 100m butterfly champion, this was a message, a

:35:47. > :35:50.signal of intent. Ben's surprise was obvious. This had been the dream

:35:51. > :35:55.since he was a little boy. And I remember that dream. Was he inspired

:35:56. > :36:05.by his team-mate? His friend? Almost certainly. Ben's been a talent for a

:36:06. > :36:10.long time. But how many hundredths of a second is belief worth? He will

:36:11. > :36:15.take that? Was it the perfect 50 fly? Almost. Now for the 50

:36:16. > :36:20.freestyle. Can he repeat the trick? Can he become the fastest man on the

:36:21. > :36:25.planet? Ben says that the 50 butterfly is the one he dreamed of

:36:26. > :36:31.but the 50 free is the one he trained for. He's the fastest in the

:36:32. > :36:37.world this year. The at the Rio owe Olympics he missed gold by 0.2 of a

:36:38. > :36:39.second. But he's a world champion now. So I ask you again, how much is

:36:40. > :36:51.belief worth? Well, you join us as the American

:36:52. > :36:58.National Anthem is playing out for Simone Manuel who won the 100m

:36:59. > :37:03.freestyle. Nice for her to be up on the podium by herself. Last year she

:37:04. > :37:06.shared it in a joint gold. But this time at the World Championships she

:37:07. > :37:12.is up there by herself in a thrilling race that saw her nudge

:37:13. > :37:18.Sarah Sjostrom into second place. Right, Mark Foster, let's talk about

:37:19. > :37:24.Ben Proud it was your event. You have watched his career closely. You

:37:25. > :37:28.know him. He is a raw talent. I feel we have spoken about Ben's potential

:37:29. > :37:33.for a long time. Do you feel this is him announcing himself properly on

:37:34. > :37:39.the world stage? Very much so. Three years ago he did the double on

:37:40. > :37:43.the 50 free and the 50 fly and set world-class beating times. But in

:37:44. > :37:48.the Olympic Games he came fourth and came close to winning a medal and

:37:49. > :37:54.seeing him here on the 50 fly. It is a race that I swam a lot. A lot can

:37:55. > :37:59.go wrong if you try to hard it is the person that stays relaxed and

:38:00. > :38:03.sticks to the race plan, I talk about the perfect race, Monday night

:38:04. > :38:07.he did his perfect race. But I still think he can go faster. He got

:38:08. > :38:11.everything right. If he does it again on the 50 free, who knows what

:38:12. > :38:17.might happen. I could ask you what you make of his

:38:18. > :38:23.year but earlier, Ben posted the fastest time in the world over the

:38:24. > :38:27.50 free. Here he is in April. 21.54 is the qualification time and

:38:28. > :38:33.not the first time we have seen it this week Where the qualification

:38:34. > :38:37.standard has been the British record but the swimmer in that race is

:38:38. > :38:42.swimming against his personal best. Look at him go. Straightaway.

:38:43. > :38:46.Powering through the water. Giving us goose bumps. Ben Proud is coming

:38:47. > :38:52.through the final ten. He is moving from everybody.

:38:53. > :38:58.The time will be 21.32! Over two tenths of a second quicker than his

:38:59. > :39:05.own British record! A proud mum and family up on the screen. Cheering

:39:06. > :39:09.away! I love the way that his brother and mum clocked the camera

:39:10. > :39:13.at the end there. Sure they should celebrate. It is a family affair.

:39:14. > :39:18.But let's talk about Ben's performance. If you post a time like

:39:19. > :39:22.that with the World Championships on the horizon, how does it affect your

:39:23. > :39:27.head and physical prepare? You start believing. He has had a big shift

:39:28. > :39:35.this year. He has had a new coach. It can go one or two ways. He is in

:39:36. > :39:41.Turkey training with James Gibson, who coached Florian Manadu in 2012

:39:42. > :39:47.and got an owe Olympic gold and silver. So. He is doing similar

:39:48. > :39:52.training but changing it slightly. The human body, it gets used to what

:39:53. > :40:01.you give it. So a little change is a good thing. It has pushed him on. He

:40:02. > :40:07.has improved over his 50 metres. Every year if I improved 100th of a

:40:08. > :40:12.second, I would be pleased. So it is that, coupled with belief. And I

:40:13. > :40:18.think he is standing there thinking he fancies himself in the race! He

:40:19. > :40:25.is surrounded in terms of team-mates by his friends.

:40:26. > :40:30.Obviously Ben did the 50m heat. What do you think he can do? Ben is a

:40:31. > :40:34.quiet person. But when he is in the water, before the race, he can come

:40:35. > :40:41.into his own. You don't know what to expect of Ben. Before the final 50

:40:42. > :40:45.flies, you think he could go 22.9, whatever he went but he has a way of

:40:46. > :40:49.going through the water and beating everybody. So, I'm confident he can

:40:50. > :40:55.pull something out. But we'll see what we get. Are you hoping Ben gets

:40:56. > :41:04.the golds so you can get two golds together? 100%. Oh, you think he

:41:05. > :41:10.will? Yeah, he is a 21 free guy! Becky, when you are an owe Olympic

:41:11. > :41:15.champion on a team, do you feel a responsibility to share the

:41:16. > :41:21.confidence and lift everybody a bit like Adam will with Ben? When I

:41:22. > :41:27.spoke to Adam earlier, he says he feels that but let's everyone do

:41:28. > :41:30.their thing. Ben is quiet but statement, he is concentrating on

:41:31. > :41:34.his event. He is very much looking forward to tonight. I thought he

:41:35. > :41:39.looked tired this morning. So hopefully he can get a good swim in

:41:40. > :41:49.tonight. With big names and muscles in this

:41:50. > :41:54.one. The first semi-finals. Caeleb Dressel is the fastest qualifier for

:41:55. > :42:00.the first semifinal. But the fastest man in the world is in three.

:42:01. > :42:05.Dressel in four, Proud in three. Nathan Adrian is in two.

:42:06. > :42:09.And here is Great Britain's Ben Proud. The Commonwealth champion.

:42:10. > :42:24.The fastest man in the water this year. A Gold Medal on the 50

:42:25. > :42:29.butterfly. Outstanding. I can't see anyone getting past this

:42:30. > :42:32.guy, Caeleb Dressel, what a revelation he has been this week.

:42:33. > :42:36.The starts, Andy. When I see them, I can't get my head

:42:37. > :42:44.around how he is generating that force? It is not just the leap off

:42:45. > :42:48.the blocks, you may see it in a second, he has a massive vertical

:42:49. > :42:55.leap. But he maintains the momentum through the water. The perfect

:42:56. > :43:01.timing of the first kick. Fantastic underwater work with his legs. He is

:43:02. > :43:06.a about 0.8th of a metre deep. He then explodes to the surface. A

:43:07. > :43:11.fantastic start. He will be in the centre. And Nathan Adrian is not

:43:12. > :43:19.slow. There he goes again. He really leaps high.

:43:20. > :43:26.He is looking for a super start here. I wonder if he will go all out

:43:27. > :43:36.here or hold a little bit back? Ben Proud is three from the top in lane

:43:37. > :43:41.three. Dressel is in four. The first semifinal of the men's 50m

:43:42. > :43:45.freestyle. This could be the order of the semifinal. Caeleb Dressel, he

:43:46. > :43:53.has taken a half a metre from the rest of the field. Ben Proud is

:43:54. > :44:01.going well in lane three. He has a job to do. It looks like it will be

:44:02. > :44:11.Dressel. He gets it. 21.29. The new fastest man in the water in the

:44:12. > :44:16.world is Caeleb Dressel of the USA. Second was Morisov. And then third

:44:17. > :44:23.for Ben Proud. That is good for Ben Proud. Proud

:44:24. > :44:28.has done the job. Nathan Adrian was fourth.

:44:29. > :44:34.Caeleb Dressel in on the start. He is getting his hands in 30

:44:35. > :44:39.centimetres further forward. That is the first step with that big a lead

:44:40. > :44:44.it is hard for the other guys to catch up. Caeleb Dressel came off it

:44:45. > :44:47.over the last three to four metres. Look at this, into the wall. Job

:44:48. > :44:55.done. Pretty comfortable in the end.

:44:56. > :45:04.16100ths. The margin of the victory. Good for Ben Proud there. He was

:45:05. > :45:11.21.9 this morning. 21.6 tonight. So the first semifinal tonight.

:45:12. > :45:15.Amazing, Caeleb Dressel. Morozov. And then Ben Proud for Great

:45:16. > :45:20.Britain. Nathan Adrian is in a sticky position in fourth. And the

:45:21. > :45:25.second semifinal. It is not good to pick names but they were quick in

:45:26. > :45:30.the heats. Fastest for Finland. And Brazil.

:45:31. > :45:34.Look at that lot. Andy, how good have the Brazilians

:45:35. > :45:40.been this week?! They've been fantastic. They've medaled in every

:45:41. > :45:48.single 50 this week. Whatever the secret is, they seem to have it.

:45:49. > :45:56.They also got a Gold Medal in the women's 50m backstroke.

:45:57. > :45:58.Silver on the 50m broke stroke. Silver on the 50m fly stroke. And

:45:59. > :46:05.now Sharon is with Ben Proud. Definitely going in the right

:46:06. > :46:10.direction, pleased with that one this evening? Yeah, I mean, 50 free

:46:11. > :46:15.is all about getting through the rounds. I think I've put myself in a

:46:16. > :46:20.good position. It's not anything like my best time. But considering I

:46:21. > :46:28.feel like I can go faster tomorrow, and 21. 6 is OK. It's very

:46:29. > :46:32.consistent. You've been 21. 3 this year, you know you can do this.

:46:33. > :46:38.After seeing my fly, I'm there. It's all about getting that swim out. I

:46:39. > :46:43.know it's possible. Getting things together, getting everything right.

:46:44. > :46:49.Putting the finishing right like I'm supposed to. I can get close to that

:46:50. > :46:54.time. Tomorrow's the final. Hopefully I make it through and it

:46:55. > :46:55.will be another good race. Pretty sure you'll make it through. Good

:46:56. > :47:08.luck tomorrow. Thank you. I'm reasonably confident for Ben

:47:09. > :47:11.Proud to make the final. The one I'm less so is Nathan Adrian, the big

:47:12. > :47:16.American. Wouldn't it be something if he didn't make the final. At 6'6"

:47:17. > :47:22.you don't want to see him upset! Fingers crossed he gets through.

:47:23. > :47:32.Lane two for Brazil, world record holder here.

:47:33. > :47:40.McEvoy of Australia. He goes in six. The world junior champion he was

:47:41. > :47:52.five years ago. He hasn't quite stepped up. He's so talented. The

:47:53. > :47:58.fastest men in the world in this 50m freestyle. The first semi was very

:47:59. > :48:03.quick. This is the second. In the centre, the Brazilian, got a Silver

:48:04. > :48:07.Medal in the men's four by 100 relay. The world record holder in

:48:08. > :48:21.two is going well. Could Brazil get one, two here? Fratus gets it.

:48:22. > :48:29.That's the same time Ben Proud got in third place in the first

:48:30. > :48:33.semifinal. The world record holder went down in fifth position. I

:48:34. > :48:38.think, you know, that Nathan Adrian is in a bit of trouble here. Because

:48:39. > :48:42.that was a very tight second semi. It really was. More conventional

:48:43. > :48:47.semi. No-one really heading the race there. Almost in a straight line.

:48:48. > :48:51.There's Fratus. Beautiful high elbows. He pulls away in the last

:48:52. > :48:57.ten metres. Gets his hand on the wall for the victory. Andy,

:48:58. > :49:06.honestly, could have gone anywhere. Where did it go, to lane four. Job

:49:07. > :49:21.done. Into the final. He'll be equal third fastest with Ben Proud.

:49:22. > :49:34.So the finalists for this men's 50 freestyle:

:49:35. > :49:47.McEvoy not in. Nathan Adrian not in. Dotto not in, wow. Some big chaps

:49:48. > :49:51.have missed out there. Ben Proud seemed confident in his chat with

:49:52. > :49:54.Sharon. He seemed more relaxed. You've talked about belief. Sounded

:49:55. > :49:59.like he had it. Can he go faster tomorrow night? Definitely. We saw

:50:00. > :50:05.that from the heats, the semi, the final of the 50 fly. His heat this

:50:06. > :50:09.morning 21. 9, 21. 6, I'm not saying he can drop another 0. 3, but he

:50:10. > :50:13.can. He's proved in the final he can drag that extra bit out of himself.

:50:14. > :50:17.When you get adrenaline, it goes one of two ways. Sometimes it's a bit of

:50:18. > :50:20.fear, other times a bit of excitement. If you use it in the

:50:21. > :50:24.right way anything's possible for him. Hearing him talk, he is taking

:50:25. > :50:28.confidence from the fly final earlier in the week. Let's relive

:50:29. > :50:33.what he did in the semifinal of the 50 free. If you were his coach, what

:50:34. > :50:37.would you say? Just do much of the same. The difficulty is there's not

:50:38. > :50:41.much you can change from now until tomorrow apart from rest and get as

:50:42. > :50:44.much sleep as possible. Just stick to your race plan. Dressel in the

:50:45. > :50:50.middle there, he just destroys everybody on the start. Everything

:50:51. > :50:55.he wins by and probably, actually when he gets to the wall, Ben, well

:50:56. > :51:02.all of them, are coming back towards him. The damage Dressel does is on

:51:03. > :51:08.the start. The boys mention today in commentary. Half a metre on

:51:09. > :51:13.everybody at the start. What everybody is doing at the moment is

:51:14. > :51:18.slow mo-ing his start so they can do the same thing. I think he has an

:51:19. > :51:23.unbelievable vertical jump and that's just something he's got. Can

:51:24. > :51:29.he smash that long standing world record? Who, Dressel? No. Not

:51:30. > :51:33.tonight. Obviously - tomorrow. Unless he's got a time machine. Ben

:51:34. > :51:39.Proud we'll see in the 50m freestyle final tomorrow night. This evening

:51:40. > :51:42.we're going to see Ross Murdoch, the European 200m breaststroke champion,

:51:43. > :51:52.Commonwealth 200m champion, can he do it on a truly global stage? He's

:51:53. > :51:55.been talking to Nick. What is it about breaststroke at the

:51:56. > :52:00.moment and Britain? I have no idea. I picked a good time to come in at

:52:01. > :52:03.it. There's so much depth as well, the breaststroke is getting so, so

:52:04. > :52:09.tough. We've seen people make teams and miss out in the last couple of

:52:10. > :52:12.years. Just because there is so many people, just, if you're having a bad

:52:13. > :52:16.day, someone immediately fills the gap. There's no room for error in

:52:17. > :52:20.breaststroke in Britain any more. You've got to be on your best on the

:52:21. > :52:25.day, every day. How important is this year to you? It would be fair

:52:26. > :52:29.so say last year was a roller coaster. Yeah, last year was a weird

:52:30. > :52:32.one. I didn't have a great trials and had an amazing European

:52:33. > :52:37.championships. Then didn't have a great Olympic Games. It was a bit of

:52:38. > :52:41.a roller coaster for me. Did leave me in quite a bad place post Rio and

:52:42. > :52:48.it took a long time to recover mentally from that. I'm happy that I

:52:49. > :52:54.made the world championships. It w important to me to -- it's important

:52:55. > :52:59.to me to make the team. Ross Murdoch we will see this evening at 6pm in

:53:00. > :53:03.the final of the 200m breaststroke. Stick around for that. He spoke

:53:04. > :53:07.about not having the run in to this that he would have wanted. Will that

:53:08. > :53:12.fire him up for tonight? When he spoke to Sharon after the semifinals

:53:13. > :53:15.yesterday he sounded so positive and just sounded like he was back loving

:53:16. > :53:20.the sport, having fun. He seemed in a really good place. Sorry, it got

:53:21. > :53:25.really loud. He's in a good place after the semifinals. He looked

:53:26. > :53:28.amazing. Let's look at it again. Plenty of reasons to be positive.

:53:29. > :53:32.What do you make of his tactics in that? He mentioned it himself,

:53:33. > :53:36.there's so many ways to swim the race. We've seen Efimova take the

:53:37. > :53:41.first 100m really slowly and negative split it on the back. What

:53:42. > :53:45.he does, you saw in the semifinal here, he dominated his semifinal. It

:53:46. > :53:48.will be interesting come the final when he goes you know what, I'm

:53:49. > :53:53.going to take this on. As we've seen tonight with Rylov on the backstroke

:53:54. > :53:56.or do I sit with the others and then try to blow them out down the last

:53:57. > :54:00.length? It could be a cat-and-mouse scenario. It's the best I've seen

:54:01. > :54:04.him look since 2014, the last three years, when he went number one in

:54:05. > :54:09.the world. The semifinal was really spread out. Lane four, lane seven.

:54:10. > :54:12.Tonight, he is right in that mix. I think it's going to be who can get

:54:13. > :54:15.their hand on the wall first. There'll be a lot of tactics. I

:54:16. > :54:19.think Ross looks in great shape. Ross has shown in the past, he can

:54:20. > :54:25.step up on a world stage. He can do it. We've seen him under big

:54:26. > :54:30.pressure being able to perform. It's one of these things for him, as

:54:31. > :54:34.well, we've seen him trying to cover the 100 and the 200, his event is

:54:35. > :54:39.the 200. If you look at his stroke now on the 200, it looks perfect. We

:54:40. > :54:42.could talk for an hour about team tactics and qualification and why he

:54:43. > :54:46.maybe hasn't had the opportunity to do the 200 breaststroke in the past,

:54:47. > :54:49.but that's irrelevant now. This is his opportunity. This is his chance

:54:50. > :54:53.to take it and make it his own. Yeah, and the thing is he practises

:54:54. > :54:57.back home because of the depth that we have in British swimming over the

:54:58. > :55:00.breaststroke, with the women included, so much depth, these guys

:55:01. > :55:04.are having to swim fast at trials, where some of our events, you're

:55:05. > :55:07.seeing they're not swimming as fast and then they struggle on the world

:55:08. > :55:11.stage. Because breaststroke is so good, they're used to the pressure.

:55:12. > :55:14.Otherwise you don't make a team. So many good British breaststrokers in

:55:15. > :55:20.the men's event but also a real depth in field when it comes to the

:55:21. > :55:29.women's event in the equivalent race for the women's 200m breaststroke we

:55:30. > :55:34.see Molly Renshaw. It's a younger squad now. It's good to have new

:55:35. > :55:38.people on the team. We knew it would be fresh faces after Rio. How tough

:55:39. > :55:41.is it to keep pushing yourself to the top of sport at the moment with

:55:42. > :55:47.so much talent there? I think it's kept me on my toes and this year, I

:55:48. > :55:51.was I guess it keeps me training hard because I know I can't get

:55:52. > :55:53.comfortable with what I'm doing. There's always people coming

:55:54. > :55:57.through. That gets me through the graft every day knowing that people

:55:58. > :56:04.are coming. What is the target for Budapest? I'd love to be dipping

:56:05. > :56:09.under 2. 22; hopefully that will get me on the podium. She clearly knows

:56:10. > :56:14.what she needs to do to get amongst the medals. Can she do it? She's

:56:15. > :56:19.more than capable of it. I don't know whether it will happen quite

:56:20. > :56:25.tonight. She's in lane one, which is a hard place to be. Efimova, who I

:56:26. > :56:29.think is comfortable to say that she probably will win it, she even

:56:30. > :56:33.splits it. She will go out slow and come back. Last night, I thought

:56:34. > :56:37.Molly started really well and looked really smooth the first 200 and then

:56:38. > :56:41.tightened in the last 200m. In this event you need to be good down the

:56:42. > :56:45.last 50. You know Efimova is coming if she's not already in the lead.

:56:46. > :56:49.It's good being in lane one, though. She won't get carried away with

:56:50. > :56:54.anything going on here. You don't know what Efimova is going to do. If

:56:55. > :56:59.you were swimming next to Efimova, it is so misleading. Look at what

:57:00. > :57:06.what haed last night. -- what happened last night. You think, oh,

:57:07. > :57:10.well - You'd think she was gone. She's in lane seven in the pink hat.

:57:11. > :57:18.Nowhere near the front of the pack. Look what happens. She even splits

:57:19. > :57:24.it. You've got to remember the first 200 metres has a dive. She sticks to

:57:25. > :57:28.her own tactics. Everyone has their own tactics. You've got to stick to

:57:29. > :57:37.your race plan. If Molly does that she's more than capable. She's been

:57:38. > :57:41.a it. 22 low. She is -- a 2. 22 low. She needs to stick to her plan,

:57:42. > :57:46.block everything out and concentrate on her lane and doing her own thing.

:57:47. > :57:49.I don't think Efimova will do that tonight in this final and ease back

:57:50. > :57:53.that much. She can't afford to give too much away come the final. She's

:57:54. > :57:58.got more in the tank. I think she will probably sit with the others

:57:59. > :58:01.and blow them away. She's in a comfortable position where she could

:58:02. > :58:06.probably do any race and win it. I don't think she'll leave it to

:58:07. > :58:10.chance. Molly, if she sticks with Smith, or those two have their own

:58:11. > :58:14.race, and forgets about anyone, she has clear water on her side. No-one

:58:15. > :58:20.else is putting her off so there's a shout. There's a shout of a medal.

:58:21. > :58:24.Efimova just from the world rankings this year is two seconds ahead of

:58:25. > :58:31.the rest of the field. Have you to forget her a bit. A bit like with

:58:32. > :58:36.Ledecky. If Molly does, that I think she's got great experience and she's

:58:37. > :58:46.capable. Good luck Molly. She goes now in the women's 200m breaststroke

:58:47. > :58:50.final. So Yuliya Efimova is the fastest

:58:51. > :58:57.qualifier, she was the world champion two world championships ago

:58:58. > :59:02.in 2013. I'm not sure we've seen the best of her yet. She nearly broke

:59:03. > :59:06.the world record earlier this year. Maybe she could do it here, would be

:59:07. > :59:12.fascinating to see how she goes. Next to her is Bethany Galat of the

:59:13. > :59:15.USA, her first major Championship. She set a lifetime best to get into

:59:16. > :59:22.this final. She's qualified second fastest. She's right next to Yuliya

:59:23. > :59:28.Efimova. Here is Efimova. Well, Steve, she drove us nuts in the

:59:29. > :59:32.semifinal. Yeah, as Becky alluded to, she outsplits the rest of the

:59:33. > :59:35.field by over a second and outsplits Lilly King by two seconds. Lilly

:59:36. > :59:41.King will be in eight. She's out of the way. She can swim her own race.

:59:42. > :59:44.Efimova right in the middle. All the way through these breaststroke

:59:45. > :59:51.events have been dubbed a show down between King and Efimova. Last

:59:52. > :00:02.night, King was not at the races. She looked terrible. She nearly

:00:03. > :00:19.missed the final. She only just made it.

:00:20. > :00:23.Molly Renshaw is in lane one for Great Britain.

:00:24. > :00:29.This is going to be really hard to follow. Lane eight Lilly King. Lane

:00:30. > :00:37.one Molly Renshaw, Great Britain. Efimova, right in the centre in

:00:38. > :00:44.four. Women's 200m breaststroke final. We saw Yuliya Efimova split

:00:45. > :00:49.1. 10 at the 1 #4u7b metres in the semifinal. -- 100 metres in the

:00:50. > :00:52.semifinal. She came back and wasn't actually that far off the world

:00:53. > :00:56.record at the end. Look at this, King is going for it again. Bottom

:00:57. > :01:00.of your screen there. She won the 100m. Set a world record. We know

:01:01. > :01:04.that she's got easy speed. Maybe she's convinced that the way to beat

:01:05. > :01:08.Efimova here is to go out hard and hold on. That can be a very, very

:01:09. > :01:13.painful way of doing. It look at that, she's under world record pace.

:01:14. > :01:17.Efimova in the middle there, going out faster than she did last night.

:01:18. > :01:23.She is and on the right side of that shot is Great Britain's Molly

:01:24. > :01:28.Renshaw. She's going well down this first 75 metres. She's picked it up

:01:29. > :01:32.pretty well. McKeon is going well in the yellow hat of Australia, two

:01:33. > :01:37.from the right. Look at this, Lilly King, well, she was the American

:01:38. > :01:46.collegiate champion. In that she got the gold. The silver went to lane

:01:47. > :01:52.two, Kierra Smith of can da. -- Canada. Efimova's looking dangerous

:01:53. > :01:56.here. She's two seconds quicker than in the semifinal. I've got my eyes

:01:57. > :02:00.on the top of the screen there. Molly Renshaw, she's the model of

:02:01. > :02:04.smooth and efficient breaststroke swimming. She's going to need her

:02:05. > :02:09.Sunday best here in order to get down in those medal positions. She's

:02:10. > :02:10.been 2. 22. Let's hope she can do it here.

:02:11. > :02:24.Psych Fwlb Yuliya Efimova is starting to

:02:25. > :02:29.wind this up. This is interesting. She comes back fast down the last

:02:30. > :02:35.50. Do you think this is on, Steve? She came back in 35 seconds

:02:36. > :02:43.yesterday. If she does it here, she will smash the world record. And

:02:44. > :02:47.also, Molly Renshaw on course for a minor record.

:02:48. > :02:57.Can she break this world record? It was set a long time ago in the

:02:58. > :03:03.Barcelona championships by Pedersen. The time is just outside. The gold

:03:04. > :03:08.is clear to eof of Russia, the silver to the rookie, Bethany Galat

:03:09. > :03:15.of the USA, and the bronze to Shi of China. Didn't expect that. Molly

:03:16. > :03:19.Renshaw finishing in a pretty decent position in the end, sixth.

:03:20. > :03:23.Well, Yuliya Efimova destroyed the field there. Unfortunately for her

:03:24. > :03:28.she missed out on the world record but she took the rest of the field

:03:29. > :03:33.apart, didn't she. She doesn't look that bothered. A little bit of a

:03:34. > :03:40.smile. I think she had the world record in mind.

:03:41. > :03:43.She has gone 19.8 in season, she has gone two seconds faster than in

:03:44. > :03:47.training. Interesting. But she can do these times all the

:03:48. > :03:53.way through the season. A beautiful stroke. Yuliya Efimova has her

:03:54. > :04:00.critics but there is no doubt she has a beautiful stroke. A great take

:04:01. > :04:05.off the wall there as well. She has the stamina to bring it through at

:04:06. > :04:11.the end. She always does it. She does, in which case, why does

:04:12. > :04:17.she not go quicker at the start?! Steve, tell her! She has to go

:04:18. > :04:26.faster down the first 100. 68 is not quick enough to break the world

:04:27. > :04:36.record. Yulia, come on. She got a bronze the last time.

:04:37. > :04:41.Shi, of China, sorry, got a bronze. So, Yuliya Efimova just outside of

:04:42. > :04:47.the world record. She takes the gold. Bethany Galat the silver medal

:04:48. > :04:53.and shy shy shy of China, the bronze medal.

:04:54. > :04:58.There she is. A controversial character, she failed a drug's test

:04:59. > :05:01.going into the owe Olympics. She was in, appealed, out, backwards and

:05:02. > :05:05.forwards for a long time. She was in the Olympics. She is here at the

:05:06. > :05:10.World Championships, taking that title. How will it go down with the

:05:11. > :05:15.other women in the field? To be fair, I saw her hugging her other

:05:16. > :05:22.competitors, which in the 100m didn't happen. Lilly King did not

:05:23. > :05:27.want to shake her hand. I saw the other athletes have congratulated

:05:28. > :05:34.her, so they have put it aside. Let's hear from Molly Renshaw. She

:05:35. > :05:40.is with Sharron now. Molly, you said it would take a high

:05:41. > :05:46.21. You were spot on. I knew that I had to get out there

:05:47. > :05:51.quickly and be strong and hold on. I am back to get down under 22. It is

:05:52. > :05:58.something that I wanted to achieve. It would have been great to get a PB

:05:59. > :06:04.A on the podium. But I'm still happy with that.

:06:05. > :06:08.You are more consistent these days? Being with the team, I have had the

:06:09. > :06:14.chance to learn a lot and get the experience. Now I'm enjoying racing

:06:15. > :06:19.in the finals. What can we expect from you?

:06:20. > :06:24.Hopefully at the Commonwealth Games I can get on the podium.

:06:25. > :06:30.You have great depth in the break stroke. It helps to motivate people

:06:31. > :06:36.at home? It definitely keeps you on your t oes. There are people coming

:06:37. > :06:41.through all the time. I can never slack off in training. It is hard

:06:42. > :06:45.enough to make the team, never mind getting to the final.

:06:46. > :06:51.It has been like that with the men's traditionally but now in the women's

:06:52. > :06:56.too? Yes, definitely. The women were behind but now so many contenders

:06:57. > :07:00.are in the top ten in the world. So it is very tough but it's

:07:01. > :07:06.challenging. Commiserations to Molly Renshaw.

:07:07. > :07:20.Next up is the men's 100m butterfly. In the 2 hundreds it was fiercely

:07:21. > :07:28.fought between Laszlo Cseh and Salman last last Chad Chad.

:07:29. > :07:34.-- Chad. If you know Laszlo Cseh, if it was

:07:35. > :07:37.not for Michael Phelps, this would be one of the greatest swimmers of

:07:38. > :07:42.all time. He would be top two.

:07:43. > :07:46.Michael, it is crazy that the last race it was the three of us on the

:07:47. > :07:51.podium together. It was a great way to end, I guess.

:07:52. > :07:59.And who would have thought it with these three guys. Three of the

:08:00. > :08:02.medalsists last year. Chad le Clos and of course, Michael

:08:03. > :08:06.Phelps. This is the slower of the two

:08:07. > :08:15.semi-finals. Gold and two silvers are in this.

:08:16. > :08:18.And killer, Dressel is in the second semifinal right next to James Guy of

:08:19. > :08:41.Great Britain. Who would have thought it? ? ! So Cseh in two.

:08:42. > :08:45.Clos is in three. Well, there is a little bit of

:08:46. > :08:50.snatching there in the middle of the lanes.

:08:51. > :08:55.The strokes don't like so smooth for Clos.

:08:56. > :09:00.Matteriness is going well. When will Chad le Clos and Laszlo

:09:01. > :09:04.Cseh start to make a move? Matteriness was up and swimming four

:09:05. > :09:09.or five strokes before everybody else. There has been chatter about

:09:10. > :09:20.breaking Michael Phelps' world record. Let's check it. It is 49.82.

:09:21. > :09:27.This will be interesting. 49.82. 50.08 from Schooling. A decent swim

:09:28. > :09:35.from him Schooling wins the first semifinal. Second was Laszlo Cseh

:09:36. > :09:46.and gracious me, Chad le Clos will not make the final.

:09:47. > :09:56.If you are Chad le Clos, you are on the wrong side of the numbers. Last

:09:57. > :10:01.last was storming down like a freight train.

:10:02. > :10:07.I can see Chad le Clos holding his head, thinking what has he done. I

:10:08. > :10:11.think he was trying to play tack, and he has mucked it up royalally to be

:10:12. > :10:23.polite. That is Schooling.

:10:24. > :10:29.And Bert le Clos, he is not happy. Schooling, if he gets that right

:10:30. > :10:34.technically, he will do well. But the owe Olympic champion does not

:10:35. > :10:42.look a patch. And poor Chad le Clos, too right, a shake of the head. So

:10:43. > :10:45.the first semifinal. A bit of a shock, Schooling wins, that is not a

:10:46. > :10:50.surprise but Chad le Clos, he will not make the final. I'm sure about

:10:51. > :10:57.that. Those guys are smiling. And no wonder.

:10:58. > :11:01.So the second semifinal. And look there, the new superstar, Caeleb

:11:02. > :11:09.Dressel in four. He almost broke the world record. I wonder if he can do

:11:10. > :11:13.it here. Right nation next to James Guy.

:11:14. > :11:22.I think this one I don't have the pressure on me. In that aspect it is

:11:23. > :11:30.getting in the PB s. Are you feeling like the James Guy of 2015? I do.

:11:31. > :11:33.Doing this two years ago, the same set, my times are faster than that.

:11:34. > :11:44.It is there. A storm is coming.

:11:45. > :11:52.Well, let's hope that the storm does come in this, the semifinal. He set

:11:53. > :12:02.a new British record, James Guy to qualify for the semifinal. He is in

:12:03. > :12:05.the men's 4x400m this evening. But this guy, Mehdy Metella, what a

:12:06. > :12:11.beast he is. So strong. He is better known for the 100 fly

:12:12. > :12:20.in the past. This guy is interesting, Kristov

:12:21. > :12:27.Milak. Well, the storm is coming. Let's hope so. James Guy in five.

:12:28. > :12:32.The new British record-holder. He is right next to an ab-Hewitt

:12:33. > :12:45.sensation, Caeleb Dressel. Well he starts as fast as the starting gun.

:12:46. > :12:51.50708 for his 100m butterfly. The world record set with the shiny

:12:52. > :12:56.suits that have now been banned. Well, a lot of people in swimming

:12:57. > :13:02.believe that Michael Phelps world record was unbreakable, the one that

:13:03. > :13:06.no-one would ever get. People criticised Dressel, thinking that

:13:07. > :13:10.the freestyle and the 100 butterfly double was not able to do. But he

:13:11. > :13:14.has left everyone eating their words.

:13:15. > :13:21.There is Dressel and his starts and his turns are something to be hold.

:13:22. > :13:27.I think there is a lot of video recorders on slow motion focussing

:13:28. > :13:37.is His vertical jump is phenomenal.

:13:38. > :13:40.James Guy, I think he broke an 8-year-old Michael Rock 100m

:13:41. > :13:45.butterfly record. So he is really up for it. And he has put his name in

:13:46. > :13:50.the conversation for a medal. But he has to do it here.

:13:51. > :13:55.He has to go sub-51. It would be great to see him doing that. All

:13:56. > :14:02.eyes in this pool will be on Caeleb Dressel in four. Can he go sub-50?

:14:03. > :14:05.Can he break Michael Phelps' world record? I can't believe I'm saying

:14:06. > :14:12.that. And Dressel is in the centre. There

:14:13. > :14:17.he is. He is almost a metre ahead. Xraurt.

:14:18. > :14:23.Let's use this fella next to you. Get on his shoulder, James and get

:14:24. > :14:27.in the final tomorrow night. This guy is known formidle distax but he

:14:28. > :14:35.loves the big events. He is taking on Dressel. Look at the time, a

:14:36. > :14:39.tenth of a second under Michael Phelps' world record.

:14:40. > :14:43.And faster than in the heats this morning. He was outside of world

:14:44. > :14:52.record. James Guy is having a go at it! Mehdy Metella of France is going

:14:53. > :15:01.well. So the world record is 49.82. Oh, just outside! 50.06 for Dressel.

:15:02. > :15:09.James Guy 50.67. He is second. A massive new British record. That is

:15:10. > :15:15.quite outstanding! Wow! Third was Milak of Hungary.

:15:16. > :15:22.50.6! Yes, Jimmy. Well done. He's done it. 5076. He is faster than the

:15:23. > :15:28.reigning Olympic champion. And he was not scared at all of Dressel. He

:15:29. > :15:35.took him on down the first 50. How pumped up will he be for the 4x200m

:15:36. > :15:39.later. He will be full of confidence for that 4x200m. Well off the blocks

:15:40. > :15:46.as well. Well, we are leaping and jumping

:15:47. > :15:52.around in the commentary box! How coal was Dressel? There is the turn.

:15:53. > :15:57.A quick turn around. The elbow comes around so fast. I'll play that again

:15:58. > :16:01.in slow motion. That was so beautiful to watch.

:16:02. > :16:09.I can't get my breath around James Guy. This is a fella that one the

:16:10. > :16:14.400 freestyle. He is showing such class, Dressel and Guy.

:16:15. > :16:21.So there is confirmation of the second semifinal. Dressel wins it.

:16:22. > :16:30.James Guy, a new British record. A new world junior for Milak.

:16:31. > :16:34.Records all over the place! Let's have a look at the qualifiers for

:16:35. > :16:40.the final. James Guy will be in the centre lane. Look at that. Dressel

:16:41. > :16:48.is fastest. Guy second fasters into the 100 fly final. Schooling is in

:16:49. > :16:56.there, Cseh is in there, and Metella. This is brilliant. Chad le

:16:57. > :17:01.Clos, 12th. Oh, dear. Sharroon is talking to Chad le Clos.

:17:02. > :17:11.Rib rattly slower? I have no words -- deliberately slower? I have no

:17:12. > :17:13.words. You can't take it for granted. I paid the price I guess.

:17:14. > :17:27.Absolutely. Thank you for stopping. COMMENTATOR: Absolutely brilliant at

:17:28. > :17:46.the moment. In about 15 minutes you will see

:17:47. > :17:53.that man, Ross Murdoch in the 200m breaststroke final. Let's talk about

:17:54. > :17:59.James Guy, how big was that swim? That was the ninth fastest ever time

:18:00. > :18:07.let alone a huge British record. I hope he's left something for the

:18:08. > :18:14.relay later on. We don't see James doing fly that often. He rocks up

:18:15. > :18:19.and does it. He would have won a medal in the world championships, in

:18:20. > :18:24.the Olympics, second. Becky says he breathes every stroke, it looks a

:18:25. > :18:28.bit strange. But the great Michael Phelps breathed every stroke. He has

:18:29. > :18:34.a good rhythm, good timing. You know he's not going to fade. We also know

:18:35. > :18:38.that James Guy is a young man who builds, he loves the confidence. He

:18:39. > :18:41.loves the showmanship. He's brilliant for the sport in terms of

:18:42. > :18:45.what he can do. That will give him a lot of confidence for the relay and

:18:46. > :18:54.whether they can defend that title later on. The men's four by 200

:18:55. > :18:56.later on. Now the women's 50m fly semifinals, featuring Sarah

:18:57. > :19:01.Sjostrom, who I'm sure, has a point to prove.

:19:02. > :19:14.We will see Sarah in the second semi-. This is the first one. Three,

:19:15. > :19:20.four and five are the fastest swimmers in the world. Osmond of

:19:21. > :19:44.Egypt, Schmidtke in Germany. The first semifinal of the women's

:19:45. > :19:50.50 fly, Worrell of the USA. Good start at the top De Ward of the

:19:51. > :19:56.Netherlands. In six is Henique of France. It will be on the touch

:19:57. > :20:00.here. Heads are down. Who is going to hit the finish well. It was in

:20:01. > :20:06.the centre, Worrell. She wound it up well. She was fourth or fifth

:20:07. > :20:11.position with about 15 metres to go. Worrell wins it. Second was Henique,

:20:12. > :20:26.third Oleksiak. It was like watching my washing in

:20:27. > :20:29.the washing machine there, all I could see was water. It was close at

:20:30. > :20:35.the end. Worrell got off the blocks well there. She got a bronze in the

:20:36. > :20:39.100 fly. Expected her to come through at the end. Beautiful stream

:20:40. > :20:46.lining under water. Look at that. You can't tell who's where and

:20:47. > :20:49.what's what. Unlucky the Henique from France. She got touched out

:20:50. > :20:52.there. You have got to get your hand into the wall. Apply a certain

:20:53. > :21:01.amount of pressure to make sure that it registers. Worrell wins the first

:21:02. > :21:04.semifinal of the women's 50 fly. Henique second, Oleksiak third.

:21:05. > :21:11.Close right down to seventh. Amazingly close.

:21:12. > :21:37.She will be spitting Sjostrom, she will be thinking how have I got half

:21:38. > :21:41.a second earlier in the week. That should have been her easiest Gold

:21:42. > :21:46.Medal. She will want to get in here and sort things out. What do you do?

:21:47. > :21:49.You just had a great opportunity to be world champion on an event you've

:21:50. > :21:53.never been world champion before. You go half a second off the time

:21:54. > :21:58.you did a couple of days ago and lose the touch. What do you do now a

:21:59. > :22:01.couple of races later? You've got to forget it ever happened. Think it

:22:02. > :22:07.was a nightmare and you're going to wake up. If she can't win this, I'll

:22:08. > :22:13.eat my shorts. She is the world record holder on a man's time of 24.

:22:14. > :22:16.4 seconds. I mean, she should be, by rights, a second ahead of anyone

:22:17. > :22:21.else in the field. I'm going to replay that in a second. Steve will

:22:22. > :22:35.eat his shorts if Sarah Sjostrom does not win this. Kromowidjojo won

:22:36. > :22:40.in London 2012. World Championship bronze medal on this the 50 fly.

:22:41. > :22:43.Ikee from Japan, the 17-year-old. Japan had an interesting meet here.

:22:44. > :22:48.Right next to her is Sarah Sjostrom. She won a gold on the 100 fly, let

:22:49. > :22:51.off in the wonderful world record 100 freestyle. I'm wondering if the

:22:52. > :22:57.sprint events are her events here. The 100 fly wasn't that great. 100

:22:58. > :23:02.free well, that wasn't that great. The 50, I wonder whether this is it.

:23:03. > :23:07.She was talking really well about that 50 freestyle. She's by far the

:23:08. > :23:11.fastest in the world on the 50 fly. The rest of the world better watch

:23:12. > :23:16.out. She will have her angry pants on now. She doesn't do silver. She

:23:17. > :23:19.could have finished this meet with four gold medals. I don't think any

:23:20. > :23:26.lady outside of America has ever done that.

:23:27. > :23:31.Second semifinal of the women's 50m butterfly. The word record holder

:23:32. > :23:38.Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden is in lane four. She swims a different stroke

:23:39. > :23:40.to the rest of the world when she's really rocking on this 50 fly.

:23:41. > :23:43.Kromowidjojo the best starter though. Three from the right there.

:23:44. > :23:49.That really was a very good start indeed. Sarah Sjostrom often takes a

:23:50. > :23:53.bit of time to get into it. Such a fast turnover though. The yellow hat

:23:54. > :23:56.of Sweden in the centre. She's so strong and powerful. Head down, not

:23:57. > :24:05.breathed yet. Still not breathed. Into the last five, no breather and

:24:06. > :24:09.she wins. Your shorts are safe, Steve. I thought I was going to have

:24:10. > :24:16.to take them off then! I was getting worried. So was I! This is so

:24:17. > :24:20.pedestrian for her though. I think probably had the stuffing knocked

:24:21. > :24:25.out of her. Kromowidjojo, what a blistering start she had. Sarah

:24:26. > :24:29.Sjostrom she really doesn't look herself there. She's had a bad day

:24:30. > :24:35.at the office this afternoon. She'll have to go home and get her head on

:24:36. > :24:44.to make sure she can secure this 50m butterfly title tomorrow night. Look

:24:45. > :24:49.at that, at the end, such power. When you have such a long reach that

:24:50. > :24:52.can help come the end of the race, especially if you're being

:24:53. > :24:57.efficient. As expected Sarah Sjostrom winning the second

:24:58. > :25:04.semifinal. She will be fastest in the final. So the qualifiers, well

:25:05. > :25:20.it was very close indeed. That's going to be a very fast

:25:21. > :25:34.final. Can you see past Sarah Sjostrom? Look at that. Barratt of

:25:35. > :25:37.Australia missing out. Sarah Sjostrom's standards are so high and

:25:38. > :25:42.her record is so impeccable, can you say that's a bad day at the office?

:25:43. > :25:48.Yeah, no, she just needs to make it through to the final. I think it's

:25:49. > :25:52.bad day at the office on the 100 free. She got things completely

:25:53. > :25:57.wrong. She dominated that and was nearly a second faster on that.

:25:58. > :26:01.Let's turn our attention to Ross Murdoch and the 200m breaststroke.

:26:02. > :26:04.How do you rate his chances coming into this. He's talked about a

:26:05. > :26:11.couple of difficult years. Is he back to his best? I think so. This

:26:12. > :26:15.meet in the semifinals is the first time he's posted 2. 07 since 2014.

:26:16. > :26:19.It has been three years, so it's good to see him down there. Ross is

:26:20. > :26:22.good of going through the heats, the yep mys and moving things on.

:26:23. > :26:25.Tonight will be about him swimming his own race, as we spoke about all

:26:26. > :26:29.week, staying relaxed and doing your own thing. If Ross does that, I

:26:30. > :26:33.think he's in a great shout for a medal. He looked relaxed, very happy

:26:34. > :26:38.after the semi last night. He did. I think the thing is it's all gone to

:26:39. > :26:42.plan for him. His stroke looks really good. He's in full control of

:26:43. > :26:47.his stroke. It's one of these things with this final, who is going to go

:26:48. > :26:51.first and show their hand. We've both said it, 200 is his event. Not

:26:52. > :26:56.the 100. Concentrate on this and it's going to be super exciting.

:26:57. > :27:04.Super excited for the boy from Stirling.

:27:05. > :27:19.What a final this is. Watanabe the world record holder is in five for

:27:20. > :27:23.Japan. There he is, Ross. The Commonwealth champion and record

:27:24. > :27:27.holder. That Commonwealth record he set when he won the Commonwealth

:27:28. > :27:30.Games in Glasgow and what a brilliant 200m breaststroke that

:27:31. > :27:34.was. It's going to be tight, though. Because this guy is fastest in

:27:35. > :27:42.history. Yeah Watanabe 20 years of age. I think he's a bit of a, well,

:27:43. > :27:48.not to put too fine of a point on it, he's a bit of a bottler. He

:27:49. > :27:54.didn't get a medal in the final. Chupkov, this guy got bronze.

:27:55. > :27:57.Balandin he bombed out yesterday and the guy who got silver last year at

:27:58. > :28:00.the Olympics didn't even make the US team. He's the only Olympic

:28:01. > :28:05.medallist in the field from last year. Arguably he will be the

:28:06. > :28:11.favourite. Out of all, that I think the answer is Murdoch's got a chance

:28:12. > :28:14.here. Certainly a chance of a medal. There's a lot of breaststroke got to

:28:15. > :28:18.be swum between now and those medals being given out. Watanabe in five

:28:19. > :28:24.has to start as the favourite. Broke the world record in January this

:28:25. > :28:29.year. Chupkov set a fast time to set a new European record in the

:28:30. > :28:34.semifinals. That's lanes five and four. Three is Murdoch. The

:28:35. > :28:39.silver-medallist from two years ago at the world championships in two,

:28:40. > :28:43.can he step up from silver to gold? I like Ross Murdoch's demeanor here.

:28:44. > :28:47.He's just being chilled, getting his kit off there. Finished listening to

:28:48. > :28:52.his music. He's not even stepping up. That will annoy the field. He

:28:53. > :28:59.did this yesterday as well. Great ambassador for Scottish swimming.

:29:00. > :29:04.Can he do it? Again, the necklace, I have to say, I question that. Shave

:29:05. > :29:09.down and then keep your necklace on, very strange.

:29:10. > :29:12.The final of the men's 200m breaststroke at the world

:29:13. > :29:17.championships. Chupkov of Russia, the fastest seed into this final.

:29:18. > :29:22.He's had a decent start. Not the greatest start for Great Britain's

:29:23. > :29:30.Ross Murdoch. There's time for him to work his way back into this. He's

:29:31. > :29:36.next to Kevin Cordes. He's just won a hatful of NCAA titles. He's a

:29:37. > :29:41.great racer. Taking the early pace on from Japan, he's third fastest in

:29:42. > :29:45.the world this year. He can handle this pace. He is taking this by the

:29:46. > :29:48.scruff of the neck. He's taking his countryman with him, next to him,

:29:49. > :29:53.the two Japanese here doing a great job down the first 75 metres. I

:29:54. > :29:56.think they may need to. Because Chupkov swam a very comfortable

:29:57. > :30:00.first 100, wound it into the third length and then really brought it

:30:01. > :30:07.home on the fourth. At the moment, the two Japanese pushing it, pushing

:30:08. > :30:12.the pace. Koseki in six. Watanabe in five. Koseki is the first to turn.

:30:13. > :30:18.He is quite a way ahead. A third of a second. Koseki first. Watanabe

:30:19. > :30:22.second. Third, well, it's pretty much of a muchness. Now Ross Murdoch

:30:23. > :30:26.has got to go. He's three from the top here. I'm liking the look of

:30:27. > :30:31.this. They're under world record pace. Will that tell later

:30:32. > :30:36.down-the-line? Will the Japanese guy be able to dole with it. We know --

:30:37. > :30:39.deal with it. We know Chupkov was the fastest last night. Murdoch is

:30:40. > :30:43.well positioned. He's stalking these top three now. Come on Ross Murdoch.

:30:44. > :30:47.You have to believe at this stage it's possible. Andy, he's worked his

:30:48. > :30:51.way in here to third medal place. Now he's got to drop the hammer.

:30:52. > :30:56.Come on, Ross. He's three from the right-hand side there. He's in a

:30:57. > :31:00.decent position. That pink leg of the suit of Chupkov, the new

:31:01. > :31:04.European record, one lane closer to us. This will be tight. Still

:31:05. > :31:07.hanging on are the two Japanese. In six and five, Koseki and Watanabe.

:31:08. > :31:12.The charge now from Chupkov in four of Russia. The charge really is

:31:13. > :31:21.going from Chupkov. In the last 25 he's really stolen it. It's gold to

:31:22. > :31:28.Russia. The silver Goce gone to Koseki. -- gone to Koseki. The
