:00:08. > :00:44.Has he got the Finnish? I think he has! He has won the world

:00:45. > :01:01.Championship! He has certainly made us proud of

:01:02. > :01:06.this week. Can he turn this evening into a joyful one? Fingers crossed.

:01:07. > :01:11.After six days of competition in Budapest, Britain sit second on the

:01:12. > :01:15.medal table with four gold medals. There are more opportunities for

:01:16. > :01:19.Brits to get on the medal table this evening. Here's what you have to

:01:20. > :01:27.look forward to. He has already proved he is a pretty fly guy. Can

:01:28. > :01:35.Big Ben do it again? He is our guy going for gold in the 100 fly. It is

:01:36. > :01:45.James Guy. And Katie Ledecky is looking for her 14th world title.

:01:46. > :01:49.First up, it is brilliant Ben Proud, aiming to be the fastest man on the

:01:50. > :01:51.planet through water. Fingers crossed, good love. It is the men's

:01:52. > :02:08.50 metres freestyle final. The start of the final of the men's

:02:09. > :02:15.50 metres freestyle. The new sensation, Caeleb Remel Dressel in

:02:16. > :02:20.four. Ben Proud in three. Proud was the world champion in the 50 metres

:02:21. > :02:28.butterfly. Can he be the fastest human being in water? Look at his

:02:29. > :02:34.fellow. 20 years of age. He has already won so far this week. 100

:02:35. > :02:43.metres freestyle and to relays. He has a chance to win more medals

:02:44. > :02:53.tonight. That is Ben Proud. The big favourite, Dressel, in four. The

:02:54. > :02:59.final of the men's 50 metres freestyle. A very good start yet

:03:00. > :03:08.again for Dressler of the US A. -- Dressel of the USA. He is not having

:03:09. > :03:14.it all his own way. Frater Zin in six is going very well. It looks

:03:15. > :03:17.like it may be Dressel. It is gold to the USA. Silver to the Brazilian

:03:18. > :03:21.and I can tell you the wonderful news is that Ben Proud of Great

:03:22. > :03:29.Britain has got a bronze medal. Wonderful news! 21.4 three. Just

:03:30. > :03:34.outside of his lifetime best. He has added bronze on this 50 metres

:03:35. > :03:42.freestyle to the gold he won in the 50 metres fly. Well done, Ben Proud.

:03:43. > :03:49.That is a great swim. It is his finish which got the medal. Well

:03:50. > :03:55.done Ben Proud. But Dressel starts so well. When he is in the water, he

:03:56. > :04:07.never relinquishes the advantage. It is absolutely brilliant to see.

:04:08. > :04:12.These starts are superb. Look at this. Brilliant underwater. It is

:04:13. > :04:21.the momentum he gets off the start. He bursts forward. Amazing. Yeah.

:04:22. > :04:28.His swimming doesn't let him down either! Unconventional stroke. Look

:04:29. > :04:33.at the advantage. The Brazilian in six did challenge. He was actually

:04:34. > :04:39.swimming faster than Dressel. Look what it means to him. He has got his

:04:40. > :04:45.hands full. He has to return in 30 minutes to do the 100 fly. He's

:04:46. > :04:52.going to this -- straight down to swim down. Dressel wins gold. A

:04:53. > :04:57.brilliant swim. A new American win. Ben Proud gets the bronze for Great

:04:58. > :05:02.Britain. He is now talking to Sharon. Many

:05:03. > :05:09.congratulations. The second medal of the week. It has been your week,

:05:10. > :05:20.hasn't it? Yeah. The 50 freestyle is the event to be battling in. I

:05:21. > :05:27.thought that was a fast race. Between me and fifth there was

:05:28. > :05:34.almost nothing. I was nice and calm going into the race. 21.1, that is

:05:35. > :05:40.most unbeatable. That is what I am looking to try and do. He is a

:05:41. > :05:49.special swimmer, Caleb. It was great. The only thing that needs a

:05:50. > :05:54.bit of work is the dive. You can pinpoint that and not give so much

:05:55. > :06:00.away at the start, maybe? Yes. I used to pride myself on my first 50

:06:01. > :06:04.metres. It is a confidence booster. I know I can push myself to go as

:06:05. > :06:10.fast as him. That will be something I go back to next year. I knew he

:06:11. > :06:14.was going to be away at the start. That is why I didn't let it upset

:06:15. > :06:19.me. I felt it was a bloody good race. It is the second fastest I

:06:20. > :06:25.have ever been. To do it in the final, and happy. We are as well.

:06:26. > :06:28.Many congratulations. Congratulations from us as well.

:06:29. > :06:34.Bronze medal in the 50 metres freestyle. I don't want to sound

:06:35. > :06:39.like a broken record, but what would you say if he was here? First of

:06:40. > :06:43.all, congratulations. It was fantastic. Start believing a little

:06:44. > :06:49.bit more. There has been a huge shift, winning the 50 metres fly and

:06:50. > :06:54.backing it up there. Dressel is in a league of his own. It is not too

:06:55. > :06:56.easy to work on you start but he has still got some things to work on. He

:06:57. > :07:04.has had a fantastic week. You Not good. Two weeks -- years ago the

:07:05. > :07:08.British boys pinched the 4x200 metres relay from the Americans.

:07:09. > :07:12.Last year at the Olympics the Americans took the top spot back.

:07:13. > :07:17.Last night in Budapest, the stage was set for an epic battle with the

:07:18. > :07:25.Russians going in fastest on paper. We join the race with the British

:07:26. > :07:30.boys in lane five. Team USA coming into this halfway

:07:31. > :07:36.mark of this freestyle relay and they have got a decent lead. USA in

:07:37. > :07:42.one, Russia two. A typed takeover from Great Britain. We came in

:07:43. > :07:46.fourth position. Getting closer to the Aussies in third. Great split by

:07:47. > :07:52.Nick Grainger. Duncan Scott wasn't messing around. He has only given at

:07:53. > :07:57.nine 100th of a second on the takeover. If you are going to give

:07:58. > :08:02.yourself a chance of defending the world title, you have to go for that

:08:03. > :08:07.takeover. It is a skill the Americans have always been good at.

:08:08. > :08:11.The Russians are really doing well. They are doing well. If we are going

:08:12. > :08:17.to get the gold medal, we have to go in pretty even with Russia. Russia

:08:18. > :08:25.in second in lane three. Way out in front at the moment is USA. USA

:08:26. > :08:33.first, second is Russia. Third is Great Britain. That is James Guy. He

:08:34. > :08:40.is looking good. Excuse me, it is not James Guy. It is Duncan Scott.

:08:41. > :08:44.He has got some work to do. We need him to be about it coming into the

:08:45. > :08:51.final leg. The USA at the top going very well. Russia second. Duncan

:08:52. > :08:57.Scott in third position. Come on, Duncan. Let's make sure James Guy is

:08:58. > :09:06.within a second. He is doing a fantastic job. Just look how he's

:09:07. > :09:10.coming back. I fancy James Guy to do the job if he can go in within one

:09:11. > :09:17.second of the Russians. This would be a fantastic battle. The final

:09:18. > :09:24.guide for Russia got the bronze. James Guy was fifth. This is very

:09:25. > :09:30.tight. The final leg of the relay. The USA go in first. Very tight

:09:31. > :09:35.indeed for Russia and Great Britain. The bronze medallist Russia and

:09:36. > :09:37.James Guy for Britain. That head-to-head will be fascinating.

:09:38. > :09:45.They are starting to catch the American already. I have had to

:09:46. > :09:51.check my computer. Duncan Scott went really fast. One of the best in the

:09:52. > :09:55.world. Look at the job James Guy is doing on the American. He has given

:09:56. > :10:01.us the lead. Surely the race can't be over already. James Guy looking

:10:02. > :10:07.good. He has gone out very fast. Has he gone too fast? He has taken about

:10:08. > :10:11.a metre and a half off the Russian. Great Britain are the world

:10:12. > :10:18.champions in this relay. This is very, very exciting. Has James Guy

:10:19. > :10:23.gone off too quick? The Russian will come back at him. James Guy looking

:10:24. > :10:30.good. He is not going to give this up, Shirley? This is where he needs

:10:31. > :10:33.to dig deep. This is where it starts to hurt. It is not about the

:10:34. > :10:39.physical ability at this point, it is about his heart. He has a big

:10:40. > :10:47.one. He can bring this home for Britain. But the Russians are going

:10:48. > :10:51.to be bearing down on him. James Guy is a 200 specialist. He was the

:10:52. > :10:54.world champion in the 200. He is a 400 specialist. He is going

:10:55. > :11:00.fantastically well. Great Britain looked like they may defend this

:11:01. > :11:06.title. It is a world title, Great Britain won it in Russia two years

:11:07. > :11:11.ago. They are the world champions again. What a brilliant swim.

:11:12. > :11:16.Stephen Milne lead them off. Nick Grainger was second, Duncan Scott

:11:17. > :11:22.was third and James Guy brought them home. World champions. Absolutely

:11:23. > :11:31.outstanding. That kid has just gone one minute and 43 seconds. It is

:11:32. > :11:34.faster than the individual. Jimmy guy doesn't lose when he is

:11:35. > :11:38.confident. Look what it means to him. Well done, Great Britain.

:11:39. > :11:44.Champions of the word for the second time in a row.

:11:45. > :11:49.Congratulations. What an absolutely fantastic swim. You defended that

:11:50. > :11:56.title. What a great swim by all of us. I... Tonight was just about

:11:57. > :11:59.getting back, having a good time with the boys. We are world

:12:00. > :12:09.champions. We have got the title back. You entered in 49.8 in the

:12:10. > :12:17.first 100. No Howay! That is all right, isn't it? I was shifting. I

:12:18. > :12:24.was telling towards the back and a little bit. I kept saying, hold the

:12:25. > :12:30.gap. We won. Amazing. Duncan, a 44 split for you. You have had a busy

:12:31. > :12:36.week. Definitely. Things have kept going. It is a new day with the four

:12:37. > :12:42.by two guys. It was fun because of the energy they bring to it. You

:12:43. > :12:46.didn't have to automatically go out fast. You had to bring it back to

:12:47. > :12:51.help us in the race and try not to let the adrenaline get the better of

:12:52. > :12:56.you. Everybody did their best. Everybody did well. That is why we

:12:57. > :13:04.are on top of the podium. There they are, taking the top spot.

:13:05. > :13:09.World champions. Stephen Milne, lit Nick Grainger, Duncan Scott and

:13:10. > :13:13.James Guy. A mention for: Jarvis, who swam in the heats to get the

:13:14. > :13:18.boys into the final. What a night. We were here, but watching that

:13:19. > :13:23.back, even I was getting nervous. I was thinking, James, what have you

:13:24. > :13:27.done? The first two legs we were coming from behind. We were getting

:13:28. > :13:34.very nervous. We were like, have they made the right decision? Credit

:13:35. > :13:38.to Duncan Scott. I know James Guy's split was seriously impressive but

:13:39. > :13:44.Duncan Scott's split was equally impressive. He has had such a busy

:13:45. > :13:48.week. Credit to the guys. They found their own race, tactically they swim

:13:49. > :13:54.it perfectly. Great night for Nick Grainger. He swam in the morning. He

:13:55. > :13:58.has told quite a lot about how it has been a motivation to get him on

:13:59. > :14:04.the podium? It is so important that we have a team of guys we can rest.

:14:05. > :14:16.James, he had a heat in the morning in the fly... He is resting for the

:14:17. > :14:20.evening. -- he needed resting. James Guy had fun in the pool last night.

:14:21. > :14:24.Let's hope he will be doing that wobbly walk again this evening. I

:14:25. > :14:26.will hand you over to the commentators, Andy, speed -- Steve

:14:27. > :14:45.and a very special guest. Dressel goes in lane four. What a

:14:46. > :14:55.final this is. Being introduced to the crowd is the second and the

:14:56. > :15:02.fastest Hungarian. Hungary in three. It comes James Guy. Lane five. A new

:15:03. > :15:08.British record. He is -- he set to qualify for this final.

:15:09. > :15:20.Outside of him is Joseph Schooling. The fastest swim in the world, they

:15:21. > :15:27.banned the rubber suits, so those times don't really count any more.

:15:28. > :15:30.Chad le Clos is sitting between me and Stephen Perry. He is the world

:15:31. > :15:34.record holder. Big honour to be here. I think it is going to be

:15:35. > :15:47.tight. I think he will go 49, for sure. I think it is going to be

:15:48. > :15:52.close. Not a lot between 49.22 and 50. What are you thinking? I am

:15:53. > :15:55.thinking that Chad le Clos should not be sitting next to me, he should

:15:56. > :16:02.be in the water, going for the medal. But I won't make you cry.

:16:03. > :16:06.That's my dad's job! The context, we thought Michael Phelps's world

:16:07. > :16:15.record was unbreakable at 49.8. It was a big surprise that Caeleb

:16:16. > :16:18.Dressel when so close in the heats. It could potentially work against

:16:19. > :16:25.him here. One thing is for sure, with James Guy and Schooling next to

:16:26. > :16:30.him, it will be one heck of a race. I'm very excited, I think it will be

:16:31. > :16:35.close. Schooling has been talking about breaking the world record. He

:16:36. > :16:44.is the world champion. James Guy is in lane five. Dressel must start as

:16:45. > :16:47.the favourite in lane four. The starts of Caeleb Dressel have been

:16:48. > :16:54.absolutely extraordinary. Let's watch this one in four. He needs a

:16:55. > :17:04.good start if he is going to break the world record. James Guy in five.

:17:05. > :17:18.Going to be a tight race. Caeleb is favourite. But James Guy, and Laszlo

:17:19. > :17:21.as well. 23.3, just outside that. Still underneath Michael Phelps's

:17:22. > :17:27.world record splits. What does he have to do down the second 50? Looks

:17:28. > :17:33.like he is right on pace. Jimmy guy in a good position. James Guy is

:17:34. > :17:41.actually challenging Dressel. In the blackout, closer to us. -- the Black

:17:42. > :17:49.hat. Dressel at the 100 metres butterfly. 49.80 six. Just outside

:17:50. > :17:59.the world record. The world record of Michael Phelps, 49.80 two. The

:18:00. > :18:03.silver has gone to Milak of Hungary. James Guy has got a bronze! He is

:18:04. > :18:18.tied with Joseph Schooling. Goodness me, hate -- a tie for bronze. Caeleb

:18:19. > :18:22.Dressel, what a fantastic swim. He was a fingernail away from breaking

:18:23. > :18:28.Michael Phelps's world record. He has done that only 30 minutes after

:18:29. > :18:33.winning the 50 metres freestyle. Caeleb Dressel, what a superstar

:18:34. > :18:36.this kid is, at 20. The bad news is, if you had done the time that you

:18:37. > :18:40.had done last year at the Olympics, you would be up there. But you have

:18:41. > :18:45.to be happy for James Guy. The first guy to win a medal at the worlds

:18:46. > :18:53.since this fellow, Andrew Jamieson. I'm very happy for him. I would have

:18:54. > :19:02.loved to have been in the final challenging. 49.8 is exceptional.

:19:03. > :19:06.What does he do? He's got a great technique. The start is

:19:07. > :19:11.unbelievable. His final ten metres is really phenomenal. When everybody

:19:12. > :19:17.seems to be catching him come he pulls away. It doesn't look like he

:19:18. > :19:21.is pulling away, but he does. Look at his finish, look at him colliding

:19:22. > :19:28.in. That would have been the world record, if he had finished on a full

:19:29. > :19:35.stroke? Yes, and James Guy getting the bronze with Joseph Schooling. A

:19:36. > :19:40.17-year-old getting 50.6, that is a standing ovation, unbelievable.

:19:41. > :19:45.There are the US coaches, looking at the world record. I can't believe

:19:46. > :19:50.I've just seen 49.86, the second fastest time in history. Caeleb

:19:51. > :19:58.Dressel wins gold in the 100 metres butterfly, to add to the gold he won

:19:59. > :20:01.at the freestyle. A silver to Milak of Hungary. James Guy get a

:20:02. > :20:08.wonderful bronze, tied with Joseph Schooling of Singapore.

:20:09. > :20:15.Two medals for Jimmy Guy in two days, adding to the gold in the

:20:16. > :20:20.relay. Jimmy Guy has a bronze medal from the championships in his

:20:21. > :20:28.cabinet. What a race? James is talking to Sharon now.

:20:29. > :20:34.James, congratulations. A fantastic swim. What were you thinking at the

:20:35. > :20:38.end of the race? You were almost talking to yourself. Was it to do

:20:39. > :20:44.with the finish? I was worried about your finish. I didn't get it quite

:20:45. > :20:48.right, the finish. Caeleb got really fast, I try to go with him. But my

:20:49. > :20:54.finish was terrible. That is something to work on. Feared in the

:20:55. > :20:58.100 fly, I said after the freestyle, third is great to finish on. What do

:20:59. > :21:06.you do when you go home from this meet, do you think you are going to

:21:07. > :21:09.mess about with the 200 butterfly? Long-term, I'm thinking more fly, it

:21:10. > :21:14.is their, the strength is there. I've got speed and that.

:21:15. > :21:19.Commonwealth Games, next year. And we have the medley relay coming up,

:21:20. > :21:22.we will see you again back in the water. Excited about that? Of

:21:23. > :21:25.course, it will be great between us, the Americans and Chinese. Well

:21:26. > :21:38.done. That was quite extraordinary. I'm

:21:39. > :21:42.sitting next to Chad le Clos. We have just seen the gold medal go to

:21:43. > :21:49.Caeleb Dressel of the USA. The style he did it in, from the start, he

:21:50. > :21:52.took off? I never thought it would come so quickly. Only a couple of

:21:53. > :21:56.years since breaking that. I would have loved to have been in the

:21:57. > :22:03.final. My own mistakes were there in the semifinals. That was

:22:04. > :22:11.exceptionally fast. 50 points, down to seventh place. I was eighth in

:22:12. > :22:16.the final this year. I'm excited now about James Guy against you. I think

:22:17. > :22:17.he has just gone right down to your PDA. Commonwealth Games next year, a

:22:18. > :22:30.big head to head? Jimbo is my mate. I said, just go

:22:31. > :22:38.for it. He has been telling me for about seven months, I am confident

:22:39. > :22:44.in the 200 fly. I said, stick to the 400. We have some history as well.

:22:45. > :22:48.This old goat was the last guy for Great Britain to get a medal at the

:22:49. > :22:54.World Championships. He's done a good job. He's not done too bad.

:22:55. > :22:58.Let's talk a second about Caeleb Dressel. No human being has ever

:22:59. > :23:05.come to a World Championships or Olympic Games and won three gold

:23:06. > :23:15.medals in one session. He just won the 50 three, can he do the fly? The

:23:16. > :23:24.mistake he made was the 50 fly. He has had an amazing week in the meet.

:23:25. > :23:31.I can't wait to meeting in 2020, alongside James. We are looking

:23:32. > :23:33.forward to Dressel against Chad le Clos in the 100, and certainly

:23:34. > :23:43.against James in the 100. We have talked a lot about James

:23:44. > :23:46.Guy's character, about how he loves racing. I think he's looked around

:23:47. > :23:48.and looked at who are the best characters, I want to get in their

:23:49. > :23:58.race. Why not? He can compete with them. I was

:23:59. > :24:11.surprised when he said he was going to drop the free. It was an

:24:12. > :24:18.incredible race, I'm glad he got onto the podium. Right idea, to drop

:24:19. > :24:24.the 400 free and concentrate on fly? He's got a lot of events, the world

:24:25. > :24:31.in the butterfly, and he has gone to the 200 fly, and he has three solid

:24:32. > :24:37.events. A medal for James Guy. But we already had one in the pool

:24:38. > :24:40.courtesy of Ben Proud. How proud are you? Immensely proud. The

:24:41. > :24:48.presentation taking place. He did an amazing job. 21.3 earlier in the

:24:49. > :24:53.year, he would not have got a silver or gold medal, it wouldn't have

:24:54. > :24:57.taken further. I know people say he has given away too much on the

:24:58. > :25:02.start, the rest of the world are behind Caeleb Dressel on the start.

:25:03. > :25:05.He is phenomenal. He is the new face of world swimming. Getting that

:25:06. > :25:09.close and getting so much more consistent is brilliant. You are

:25:10. > :25:15.telling Ben to believe, I'm going to tell you to believe, he can catch

:25:16. > :25:20.him? I'm not saying he can't, but it is the first time he's been on a

:25:21. > :25:25.podium at a World Championship, he won one and came third in one, great

:25:26. > :25:29.steps from where he was. I think he has started to believe in himself,

:25:30. > :25:34.he needs to stop thinking about these Godlike characters. He said to

:25:35. > :25:37.Sharon that 21.1 was almost unbeatable. He should not see it

:25:38. > :25:41.like that. Every single person in that pool is beatable, because he

:25:42. > :25:44.did it in the 50 metres butterfly. I think he does believe in himself,

:25:45. > :25:49.but he needs to forget about everybody else and say, you know

:25:50. > :25:52.what? I can do that! Certainly been a good week for Ben Proud at the

:25:53. > :25:58.office. One world title and a bronze medal. He will go and enjoy himself.

:25:59. > :26:00.I won't say go to the Budapest Ba'athists, he probably wants to be

:26:01. > :26:06.nowhere near a swimming pool. Somebody else chasing medals is

:26:07. > :26:18.Sarah Sjostrom. This happened earlier.

:26:19. > :26:24.Sarah Sjostrom is the massive favourite. But which one will turn

:26:25. > :26:33.up? The world record holder or the silver medallist?

:26:34. > :26:44.50 metres butterfly final. Sjostrom in fourth. So, the final of the 50

:26:45. > :26:57.metres butterfly. Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden in four. Also Kelsey of the

:26:58. > :27:08.USA. The Olympic champion from London. This is very good. The world

:27:09. > :27:14.record, 24.40 three. A little bit outside of that. Maybe a little bit

:27:15. > :27:18.choppy into the last 15 metres. Goodness me, she has avenge those

:27:19. > :27:21.demons that came in last night on a 100 metres freestyle, when she

:27:22. > :27:30.should have won the gold. Now it is gold on the 50 metres butterfly. A

:27:31. > :27:31.new Championship record for Sarah Sjostrom. The second fastest time in

:27:32. > :27:42.history. So, Egypt on the podium for the

:27:43. > :27:53.first time ever. Sarah Sjostrom took the world title

:27:54. > :27:58.and it was never in doubt. She won by almost a second. That is her

:27:59. > :28:05.third medal of the week. Any lingering doubts from last night

:28:06. > :28:11.certainly put to bed. Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands took silver.

:28:12. > :28:15.We're going to see Sjostrom again in a minute. That was last night, she

:28:16. > :28:29.has not turned around and gone back in. That was earlier! She is next in

:28:30. > :28:32.the 50 free semifinals. A lot of retirements, Fran decided not to do

:28:33. > :28:40.this, he'll have we got coming through? Most notably Freya? Yes,

:28:41. > :28:45.she is only young, she has World Championships coming up. She is a

:28:46. > :28:51.great prospect for the future. Fran leaves a real legacy. But we haven't

:28:52. > :28:55.really got a sprint programme in the UK, which we really need to develop.

:28:56. > :29:01.We have always had a good history with Mark, Fran, other people. Shame

:29:02. > :29:05.we haven't got a sprint face. That was your event, we saw Ben getting

:29:06. > :29:11.the medal. The last time we had a man on the podium for a sprint event

:29:12. > :29:16.was you, ten years ago. 14 years ago. Can't believe I just admitted

:29:17. > :29:20.that! The thing is, it is one of these situations whereby role models

:29:21. > :29:25.in your country, people you look up to and people that you chase,

:29:26. > :29:31.programmes, predominantly in the UK, historically, more middle-distance

:29:32. > :29:33.programmes. We haven't really got sprint programmes. A lot of the

:29:34. > :29:40.sprinters come out of America. When you look at American swimming, and

:29:41. > :29:43.Bill Furness mentioned it on the first night, if you look at how many

:29:44. > :29:46.people are swimming compared to the UK, we can't cover every event. I

:29:47. > :29:51.would like to see a sprint programme with somebody like James Gibson, we

:29:52. > :29:57.had him before, but where we send some sprinters. OK, you might not be

:29:58. > :30:02.the greatest middle-distance swimmer, but you could be a good

:30:03. > :30:07.sprinter. We talk about the legacy we have with breaststroke, could Ben

:30:08. > :30:13.Proud start a legacy in spreading? Yes, but he trains in Turkey! So

:30:14. > :30:18.yes, but... Because there isn't a programme in the UK. But we are not

:30:19. > :30:22.going to see him, we are still going to see him on television, kid

:30:23. > :30:28.saying, I want to be like Ben Proud? 100%. But there is a view gaps,

:30:29. > :30:32.there are events that have so much depth, people at home are thinking I

:30:33. > :30:37.could have been in that final, there are too many people. We are missing

:30:38. > :30:39.events, women's distance doesn't have many people, sprinted,

:30:40. > :30:43.traditionally we have had good people. Hopefully the gaps, over the

:30:44. > :30:44.next three years, coaches are looking at and pinpointing their

:30:45. > :30:59.athletes on the road to Tokyo. Could Fran Halsall big --, cry the

:31:00. > :31:05.retirement? Yes. Well, she has just gotten engaged. Think truthfully she

:31:06. > :31:12.should. Enjoy your year out. It is down to her. As she had enough?

:31:13. > :31:21.Possibly. While Fran Halsall tells us to shut up, here is another

:31:22. > :31:27.semifinal. The first of the semifinals of the

:31:28. > :31:28.women's 50 metres freestyle says Pernille Blume, the Olympic

:31:29. > :31:45.champion. Santa Manse of France goes in six.

:31:46. > :31:47.We haven't seen too many French swimmers yet at this world

:31:48. > :31:55.championship. They have had an absolutely shocking time. They need

:31:56. > :32:00.to turn it around. They honouring -- they have only got a day and a half

:32:01. > :32:06.left. Michelle Toro from Canada. Look at this lady. Simone manual.

:32:07. > :32:11.She never looks happy. She didn't even look happy when she won the 100

:32:12. > :32:17.metres freestyle yesterday. She has every reason to smile. And finally,

:32:18. > :32:33.Pernell Bloom, the Dane, the Olympic champion. -- Pernille Blume.

:32:34. > :32:41.She has won the Olympic title. She is in four. She swim very well in

:32:42. > :32:47.the 100. She got a bronze. That was a big surprise. That was the

:32:48. > :32:53.greatest assembled set of women in the 100 metres freestyle I have ever

:32:54. > :33:07.seen. Simone Manuel made history in Rio. She tied for a gold with the

:33:08. > :33:09.Canadian. She backed it up this year with world championship title at 100

:33:10. > :33:21.free. The first semifinal of the women's

:33:22. > :33:27.50 metres freestyle. A very good start for Simone Manuel of the USA.

:33:28. > :33:33.She swims at Stanford University. One of the team-mate of Katie

:33:34. > :33:37.Ledecky. What a team they have got. It is a semifinal. They just have to

:33:38. > :33:48.make sure they get a decent, solid swim. It is close. 71 hundredths

:33:49. > :33:54.split them. Pernille Blume wins it. We may enter up getting a French

:33:55. > :34:01.finalist. Don't sound so surprised! They are capable. You are just

:34:02. > :34:11.winding up our colleagues next door. I love it. Two world-class times.

:34:12. > :34:16.They really are fast women. They are around the Olympic winning mark from

:34:17. > :34:21.last year. Pernille Blume didn't have a good start. She was playing

:34:22. > :34:28.catch up all the way through. She was only winning over the last

:34:29. > :34:35.metre. Sarah Sjostrom has been the standout performer. Pernille Blume

:34:36. > :34:44.winning the first semifinal it -- at the time faster than she won the

:34:45. > :34:50.Olympic gold last year. There are the second semifinalists

:34:51. > :34:55.waiting. Sarah Sjostrom in four. Could you break the world record?

:34:56. > :35:06.Bronte Campbell is it that -- the defending champion. What a semifinal

:35:07. > :35:16.that is. Main Phil goes in eight per Canada. -- never short of

:35:17. > :35:18.confidence. Always a little bit worried town America -- American on

:35:19. > :35:37.the outside. Aliaksandra Herasimenia. She was

:35:38. > :35:40.making me cry Leicester at the Olympic games. She tapped out Fran

:35:41. > :35:48.Halsall by 21 hundredths of a second to beat her in Rio. This young lady,

:35:49. > :35:54.Osman of Egypt, got Egypt's first ever medal when she got a bronze in

:35:55. > :36:01.the 50 metres fly this evening. Amazing. Bronte Campbell, defending

:36:02. > :36:06.champion. Her sister is faster. Her sister is not here. I think she has

:36:07. > :36:12.picked the wrong Championships. She has had her world record taken from

:36:13. > :36:16.just missing out. Kromowidjojo did the double in 2012. She has been

:36:17. > :36:20.working away back since. She is speedy. The fourth fastest time in

:36:21. > :36:27.the world. Is this where it is at? Sarah Sjostrom. Six times on the 24

:36:28. > :36:31.seconds this year. Knocking on the door of the world record. Based on

:36:32. > :36:38.wobbly saw earlier this week, she could be under threat. -- on what we

:36:39. > :36:46.saw. Our fastest this year is 28.8 three. -- her fastest. This is the

:36:47. > :36:57.time they often do it in the semi. It is not the final. The world

:36:58. > :37:02.record held by a German. They have not been at the races in these

:37:03. > :37:09.championships, Germany. Sarah Sjostrom looks ready to me. I could

:37:10. > :37:19.-- I think we could see some fireworks. Second semifinal of the

:37:20. > :37:25.women's 53. Sarah Sjostrom has already won the 50 metres butterfly.

:37:26. > :37:31.She is going well. The world record is 20 sat -- 20 3.7 three. Older

:37:32. > :37:43.going well with her is Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands. 23.67! It is a

:37:44. > :37:47.new world record. A fantastic swim. She broke the world record in the

:37:48. > :37:52.100 metres freestyle earlier in this championship. Now she has taken the

:37:53. > :37:57.50. That is fantastic. 61 hundredths of a second. She has destroyed the

:37:58. > :38:05.world record. -- six one hundredths of a second. That is one of the

:38:06. > :38:10.long-standing assisted sued records from 2009. That is absolutely

:38:11. > :38:15.world-class. She was under way well off the blocks. She has more to

:38:16. > :38:22.drop. If she puts the race together tomorrow night, she will break it

:38:23. > :38:27.again. Look what it means. She has come back tonight and performed like

:38:28. > :38:32.an absolute trooper. Great streamlining underwater. Popped

:38:33. > :38:36.right up. It was that speed from 20 through to 40 metres that got her

:38:37. > :38:44.that world record. She is behind at this stage. The Dutch girl next to.

:38:45. > :38:50.With 15 to go, she keeps sparring. She was on the world record line.

:38:51. > :38:56.Great finish. She leaned into it as well. What a fantastic swim that was

:38:57. > :39:03.from Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden. She broke the world record earlier this

:39:04. > :39:12.evening. No, she didn't. She was 17 one hundredths ad sided. -- outside

:39:13. > :39:20.it. Brilliant stuff. Can you believe the time low? Well Mac! A new world

:39:21. > :39:23.record. Sarah Sjostrom wins the second semifinal of the women's 50

:39:24. > :39:34.metres freestyle. A new world record.

:39:35. > :39:40.The defending champion third. How many times this week am I going to

:39:41. > :39:44.say the swimming superstar from Sweden, Sarah Sjostrom?! She has

:39:45. > :39:51.done it again. She has just won the 50 fly and now she has done that.

:39:52. > :39:58.How impressed are you? Immensely. She rules the roost in butterfly.

:39:59. > :40:02.Leaps and bounds ahead of the world. She's moving butterfly forward.

:40:03. > :40:09.Freestyle has been tighter. Breaking the 100 freestyle record, winning

:40:10. > :40:12.that. She hasn't got the best start in the world. She swims away from

:40:13. > :40:17.people. She must be holding someone's water. She has something

:40:18. > :40:23.to prove as well. She wanted to reclaim her title. Let's have a look

:40:24. > :40:27.at that raise again. Sarah Sjostrom has just broken the world record.

:40:28. > :40:33.You said she must be holding water. She could go faster? Ultimately what

:40:34. > :40:41.you're tried to do in the pool is... She is behind, JoJo. --

:40:42. > :40:51.Kromowidjojo. She doesn't breathe. She keeps her head down. You can see

:40:52. > :40:55.the world record line. On 50 freestyle, it is the person that

:40:56. > :41:01.slows down the least that wins. One of the things I notice about her is

:41:02. > :41:04.when she does the walk-out, the camera is right in her face but she

:41:05. > :41:12.doesn't acknowledge it. What is going through her head at that

:41:13. > :41:16.point? It depends on the athlete. She wants to stay in her zone. Some

:41:17. > :41:22.people like listening to music, some people don't. It is up to you. Sarah

:41:23. > :41:28.is trying to refocus. Trying to put the gold medal behind her and get in

:41:29. > :41:33.the zone and focus for this event. Some people, and I think she is

:41:34. > :41:36.probably one of them, having won the event beforehand, it distracts from

:41:37. > :41:42.what is coming next. She doesn't have time to think about it. The 100

:41:43. > :41:45.freestyle the other night, if it was straight up, she was probably

:41:46. > :41:50.winding ourselves up for half an hour before and she just blew up.

:41:51. > :41:54.She does what he needs to do and what she does is pretty darn

:41:55. > :42:10.impressive. Next it is the breaststroke. Semifinal.

:42:11. > :42:26.A big semifinal, this. Efimova offer Russia. -- for Russia. The first

:42:27. > :42:41.semifinal. Yuliya Efimova in four. Sarah Vasey and six.

:42:42. > :42:51.She is going well. She is about in line with Ruta Meilutyte entry.

:42:52. > :43:03.Second was Katie Meili. Third, rue temerity to. A good swim by Sarah

:43:04. > :43:11.Vasey. It is squeaky bum time. The second semifinal is coming and they

:43:12. > :43:18.are not slow at all. Yuliya Efimova winning the first

:43:19. > :43:27.semifinal. 29.7 three. Sarah Vasey has done well in fourth.

:43:28. > :43:31.A good swim. We have to keep our fingers crossed. I'm happy with

:43:32. > :43:36.that. It is a touch of my best, which is frustrating. Hopefully it's

:43:37. > :43:39.fast enough to make the final. You are enjoying this experience. So

:43:40. > :43:46.fast every time you get in the water? Yeah, I love it here. The

:43:47. > :43:51.atmosphere is amazing. It is like nothing I've experienced before. I

:43:52. > :43:53.was itching to get back in. We will keep our fingers crossed and maybe

:43:54. > :44:00.we will see you tomorrow. Thank you.

:44:01. > :44:11.Lily King, the champion in the 100, goes in lane four. Jennie Johansson,

:44:12. > :44:15.the defending champion, in three. King in four. There she is for the

:44:16. > :44:25.USA. The defending champion in three. The second semifinal. The

:44:26. > :44:31.time that Sarah Vasey did in the previous semi was 30.4 six. It is OK

:44:32. > :44:36.to have four faster than that in this semi but please not five. King

:44:37. > :44:42.is looking very good. She really does attack it very strongly indeed.

:44:43. > :44:46.Coming back is Jennie Johansson some of the European champion, defending

:44:47. > :45:02.world champion. King, my goodness, street ahead.

:45:03. > :45:15.What a final it is going to be. Lilly King is going to go in

:45:16. > :45:18.fastest, Efimova second. Very quick indeed from Lilly King, fastest in

:45:19. > :45:25.the world this year. The defending world champion is second. Look at

:45:26. > :45:27.that, goodness me. Surely, the good news now is that Sarah Vaizey will

:45:28. > :45:53.go into that final sixth fastest. How happy will she be to get into

:45:54. > :45:58.the final? Massively. I don't fit we have had a GB girl there since 2007.

:45:59. > :46:03.Massive step in the right direction. She trains with Adam Peaty, she will

:46:04. > :46:06.be buzzing, hoping to just get the lane, get the experience and say

:46:07. > :46:10.what she can do tomorrow night. The more she gets in there, the more

:46:11. > :46:15.opportunity she gets, the more will come. I saw her in the warm up and

:46:16. > :46:21.she looked really good. She's quite a tall girl, nice, long stroke. If

:46:22. > :46:25.she can up the tempo, like Adam... It's really loud, by the way! His

:46:26. > :46:30.tempo is really fast I think that will come. The more she trains, the

:46:31. > :46:35.more she will deal with it. She's got a lot more to come. We have

:46:36. > :46:41.talked a lot about the boys feeding of the atmosphere. From the way

:46:42. > :46:49.Sarah was talking, it sounds like she feeds offered? The crowd have

:46:50. > :46:56.been amazing. They are all milking it, doing the whole thing, rightly

:46:57. > :47:00.so. For some, it can be intimidating. Maybe being around

:47:01. > :47:05.Adam, there is no time for nerves? Now we are going to talk about the

:47:06. > :47:08.men's 50 back semis. Another word on that final, we are going to show

:47:09. > :47:17.that tomorrow night, featuring Sarah Vasey. Efimova won the breaststroke

:47:18. > :47:21.title. Lilly King won the 100 breaststroke title. Who will take at

:47:22. > :47:26.this time? My money is on Lily. I'm going to go with Lily as well. It's

:47:27. > :47:30.quite interesting, Efimova swims that 50 like she's got speed, and

:47:31. > :47:35.when she swims the 100 it is like she hasn't got any speed. I don't

:47:36. > :47:43.know why she doesn't just go for it. If I was head Coach, I'd say, right,

:47:44. > :47:45.just go for it. Don't limp out. The men's 50-metre backstroke semifinals

:47:46. > :48:09.now. In lane four, Camille Lacourt. He

:48:10. > :48:12.won in 13 and 15. 11 was Liam Tancock Britain.

:48:13. > :48:26.Lacourt, won it in Kazan. Neither could get near Liam Tancock's world

:48:27. > :48:35.record. I remember him doing it in Rome, you

:48:36. > :48:42.couldn't even see him, his arms went run so fast. 24.0 is otherworldly.

:48:43. > :48:45.He is here doing a bit. I thought he was doing a bit for British

:48:46. > :48:49.swimming, part of the athletes commission. Great to see him down

:48:50. > :49:01.there. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Matt grievous. What a

:49:02. > :49:07.monster he is. 6-foot seven. -- Matt Grevers. I can see why Helen Skelton

:49:08. > :49:12.and her friends like this fellow, full-time model, part-time swimmer,

:49:13. > :49:15.Camille Lacourt. What a lovely way to go out at his final meet, to win

:49:16. > :49:25.the championships in 2017. He needs to do something 14 France.

:49:26. > :49:42.There is Grevers. He is absolutely enormous. Some of them are wearing

:49:43. > :49:43.nose clips. It's quite hard, when you are underwater, to stop the

:49:44. > :49:54.water going up your nose. You need to get your lips up to your

:49:55. > :49:58.nostrils, like you are sneezing, that stops it. If you can't do that

:49:59. > :50:08.and you are lazy, you can have the nose clip. The officials have to be

:50:09. > :50:12.on it making sure nobody breaches the 50-metre underwater marker. We

:50:13. > :50:20.saw the Australian do it, but they didn't go.

:50:21. > :50:29.Camille Lacourt, in the centre. He is allowed 50. He has used every

:50:30. > :50:35.centimetre of that 15. That was incredible. The white hat, in the

:50:36. > :50:41.centre, also going with him, Matt Grevers. It looks like it's going to

:50:42. > :50:48.be Lacourt. Let's look at the world record of Liam Tancock. It is fast,

:50:49. > :50:53.faster than the time where he won the World Championships in 2011.

:50:54. > :51:00.Still would have won two years ago. Very good semi. Brilliant swim from

:51:01. > :51:04.Camille Lacourt. It amazes me that he is able to get those huge, long

:51:05. > :51:10.levers around as fast as he does. You would expect a sprinter to maybe

:51:11. > :51:16.be smaller. But he is so efficient under the water. Very good

:51:17. > :51:22.technician. 24.3, the fastest time in the world by a long way. Very

:51:23. > :51:28.strong underwater. Get the long body away, very quick. Beautifully

:51:29. > :51:33.steelhead position. Head and shoulders above the rest here. Get

:51:34. > :51:37.that arm over. Finishing on a full stroke. Setting a real tough marker

:51:38. > :51:42.down for tomorrow night, Camille Lacourt. He doesn't want to elect

:51:43. > :51:48.this title go. He's won it twice already. 1.26 out of the world

:51:49. > :51:56.record, not impossible. He was very close to the 50 metres mark. Lacourt

:51:57. > :52:05.wins the backstroke, Grevers second, Pavel Sankovich third. The second

:52:06. > :52:13.semifinal is loaded. Gold medallists on the 100. Xu China in five. The

:52:14. > :52:22.fastest in the world in six, Justin Ress.

:52:23. > :52:38.they had a bit of a debt after the fantastic 400 metres freestyle.

:52:39. > :52:42.Really splendid, carried that team for years. They are having a

:52:43. > :52:46.revolution on the female side, lots of good young swimmers coming

:52:47. > :52:57.through. It's exciting next year for the Commonwealth Games. Fantastic

:52:58. > :53:05.reception every time a Hungarian comes out in this arena. On the

:53:06. > :53:10.banks of the beautiful river Danube. The fastest man in the world is in

:53:11. > :53:15.lane six. Only fourth fastest qualifier for this semifinal.

:53:16. > :53:22.Seventh after this morning's heats. A second Frenchman, and he is good,

:53:23. > :53:29.Jeremy Stravius won a silver medal, tied with Matt Grevers, in 2016.

:53:30. > :53:33.This guide, Xu, what a beautiful stroke he has. I wonder if this

:53:34. > :53:39.might be short for him, this 50? I always think, he did well on his

:53:40. > :53:44.200. He is the second fastest time in the world this year. He holds

:53:45. > :53:51.that time, 24.4 seconds. This fellow, from Japan, we haven't seen

:53:52. > :53:54.him for eight years. He got a medal eight years ago, disappeared, he

:53:55. > :54:02.came back and seems to be back to his best. He certainly is looking

:54:03. > :54:07.pretty good. He is the world short course champion. Sometimes difficult

:54:08. > :54:14.to take a long break and come back. Interesting to see, this is not an

:54:15. > :54:22.Olympic event yet. They have added a couple of races, but not the

:54:23. > :54:27.strokes. Freestyle is, but not the 50 back. Another nose clip going on.

:54:28. > :54:32.I think at this level, you shouldn't need nose clips, you should learn to

:54:33. > :54:37.hold your breath. It's a bit village! They are using them more

:54:38. > :54:44.and more, I think. Some swimming programmes use them all the time.

:54:45. > :54:53.Nose clip gate, we will figure it out later. Second semifinal, 50

:54:54. > :55:01.metres backstroke. Jeremy Stravius in three for France. Koga in four.

:55:02. > :55:06.The fastest in the world in six. Six had an OK start, but not that great.

:55:07. > :55:11.The Black cap on the left-hand side, very good start. In the centre is

:55:12. > :55:15.Koga of Japan, the world short course champion. He won the 100

:55:16. > :55:21.metres backstroke at the World Championships eight years ago.

:55:22. > :55:27.Starting to fade a little bit. 24.04 is the world record. 24.44, four

:55:28. > :55:31.tenths of a second outside of Liam Tancock's world record. I am not

:55:32. > :55:38.sure that will go at this meet either. Eight years safe. What a

:55:39. > :55:42.swim that was in Rome in 2009. Very impressive from Koga. He just

:55:43. > :55:48.continued to power all of the weight down that length.

:55:49. > :55:52.That is Xu from China, he got a great start. There is Koga, look at

:55:53. > :56:10.that entry through the water. Very still had. Beautiful. The

:56:11. > :56:19.winner of the second semifinal, Koga of Japan. Very good swim from him.

:56:20. > :56:26.Early this evening we saw the women's 200 metre backstroke final,

:56:27. > :56:33.featuring the home favourite, Katinka Hosszu. I think the partisan

:56:34. > :56:38.home crowd thought she was going to do it. They were going crazy. But

:56:39. > :56:42.she only managed to take silver. Emily Seebohm took the top spot,

:56:43. > :56:46.standing on top of the podium to take gold. Hosszu in silver,

:56:47. > :56:52.Kathleen Baker of the USA took bronze. It has been a good night for

:56:53. > :56:56.the British boys. Tomorrow is the final night of racing. What are you

:56:57. > :57:03.looking forward to? We got so much, the four by 100 medley. I'm really

:57:04. > :57:07.excited for the men's relay. Hannah Miley has been waiting since day one

:57:08. > :57:12.for the medley, and Max Linfield going again. Britain has added to

:57:13. > :57:20.the medal tally, then brown and James Guy have put themselves in a

:57:21. > :57:27.bronze medal. -- Ben Proud. They will be wobbly walking along, and

:57:28. > :57:31.who can blame them? More reaction on the red button to follow this. If

:57:32. > :57:35.you want to join us for more live swimming tomorrow, you can do so on

:57:36. > :57:41.BBC Two from 4:30pm. Coverage continues on the red button with the

:57:47. > :57:51.podcast, you can head over to the 5 Live website and download it. Some

:57:52. > :57:55.very proud and excited Hungarians here this evening. I was just

:57:56. > :58:10.pre-empting that! We will have the race on the red

:58:11. > :58:14.button. Congratulations to Ben Proud and James Guy, who both finished

:58:15. > :58:18.with bronze medals. We will have more brilliant Brits in action

:58:19. > :58:23.tomorrow evening. Join us from 4:30pm on BBC Two if you can. Now it

:58:24. > :58:26.is time to find the road, press the red button and we can talk to Becky

:58:27. > :58:29.about her event. See you then. Goodbye.
