:00:23. > :00:35.Remember this man? Harare effort from Del Potro! That is remarkable!

:00:36. > :00:40.One of the best matches we have ever seen.

:00:41. > :00:43.SUE BARKER: This chap isn't too add either. Today, Juan Martin Del Potro

:00:44. > :01:03.takes on Roger Federer. It's either. Today, Juan Martin Del Potro

:01:04. > :01:15.semifinal and 2013 bragging rights. So, what a treat for a Saturday

:01:16. > :01:18.afternoon. We have Roger Federer against Juan Martin Del Potro. These

:01:19. > :01:20.two have a habit of going the distance in their matches and they

:01:21. > :01:28.have produced some absolute classics in the past. The Olympic semifinal

:01:29. > :01:31.last year, to name just one. A slight delay this afternoon because

:01:32. > :01:36.in just a moment, Rafa Nadal will be stepping onto court to receive his

:01:37. > :01:42.trophy as he ends the year as the world number one. And Tim and Andrew

:01:43. > :01:49.are here. World number one and well deserved world number one.

:01:50. > :01:53.Absolutely. Not just last year but missing seven months. There were so

:01:54. > :01:56.many question marks about coming back. To have won ten tournaments,

:01:57. > :02:16.he think it is popular. There is a thing called

:02:17. > :02:24.charisma, Sue, and he had loads of it. There is a global feel for him.

:02:25. > :02:30.Him and Djokovic are setting new standards. He comes! Give him the

:02:31. > :03:04.big sell, Justin! CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:03:05. > :03:29.rehabilitation. And then something extraordinary happened. In a

:03:30. > :03:34.breathtaking run, the man from York went on to claim eight ATP World

:03:35. > :03:40.Tour titles and two grand slam titles and reclaim the world number

:03:41. > :03:44.one position in the ATP rankings. On court, his incredible run of ten

:03:45. > :03:49.titles after injury has earned him the comeback player of the year

:03:50. > :03:53.award, as voted by his fellow professionals. And for the third

:03:54. > :03:59.time in his career, Rafa Nadal is the winner of the ATP World Tour

:04:00. > :04:04.number one. Given to the player who ends the year as world number one in

:04:05. > :04:07.the Emirates ATP rankings. So, congratulations to Spain's Rafael

:04:08. > :04:34.Nadal for his stellar 2013. Vamos! congratulations to Spain's Rafael

:04:35. > :04:38.Rafa world number one for the third time, and it is amazing to think

:04:39. > :04:42.this time last year he was laid up with a knee injury, not even

:04:43. > :04:47.thinking or knowing he would be able to get back on court.

:04:48. > :04:52.But what a year he has had. Two grand slam titles and more trophies

:04:53. > :04:57.to add to his growing collection. 27 years old only and world number one

:04:58. > :05:06.for the third time. Say a few words, Rafa. Did you ever believe you could

:05:07. > :05:11.win both of these awards and get back to the number one position?

:05:12. > :05:14.Well, one year ago when I saw this tournament on the TV I never thought

:05:15. > :05:18.I would have the chance to be back here and being the number one player

:05:19. > :05:23.of the world, so just having an amazing year, I can say thank you

:05:24. > :05:25.very much to my team, my family. Without them it would not be

:05:26. > :05:43.possible to be back where Without them it would not be

:05:44. > :05:47.than ever, so it is fantastic what happened this year, so I can just

:05:48. > :05:48.say thank you very much to everybody. They made me feel very

:05:49. > :06:04.special. Rafa, to be the best in an

:06:05. > :06:09.individual sport, no team-mates, to be ranked number one - what does it

:06:10. > :06:18.mean to you? Well, that is what the ranking says. I've never had this

:06:19. > :06:23.kind of feeling but to be number one in your sport is one of the most

:06:24. > :06:27.difficult things you can do it in in our sport because our season is very

:06:28. > :06:31.long and you have to be playing very well from the beginning and to the

:06:32. > :06:35.end because the competition is very, very hard. A lot of fantastic

:06:36. > :07:00.players out there, very, very hard. A lot of fantastic

:07:01. > :07:07.have won ten tournaments so far and two grand slam is. Is there a moment

:07:08. > :07:11.that sticks out as your proudest? It would be very difficult in a year

:07:12. > :07:14.like this to choose one. From the beginning up to here, all the

:07:15. > :07:19.possibilities to play again in these great stadiums. You know, it is

:07:20. > :07:25.probably more special than ever because when you are out for such a

:07:26. > :07:30.long time, your mind starts thinking whether you will have the chance to

:07:31. > :07:37.be back to do what you used to do in the past, so I'll just have to

:07:38. > :07:41.choose every tournament I'd played and everyone vamos won special for

:07:42. > :07:46.some reason, and just that I've enjoyed this season a lot. --

:07:47. > :08:06.some reason, and just that I've players are devastated he is playing

:08:07. > :08:11.the best tennis of his career! Where would you put that comeback? It is

:08:12. > :08:17.one of the best in sport, isn't it? It is. To be out for seven months

:08:18. > :08:21.and come back and even feel like you belong at pro-level, that is one

:08:22. > :08:27.thing, but to come back and dominate is quite another. I'd put him right

:08:28. > :08:32.up there. I love him in a suit! He is so cute, isn't he? And he is so

:08:33. > :08:40.humble. We're lucky to have him in the sport. We have said it time and

:08:41. > :08:46.time again. Last night, as we saw, this guy is a frightening physical

:08:47. > :08:55.specimen. If he stays fit, Ye -- he has another four, five years. Viktor

:08:56. > :08:56.Troicki, you fail to give a test, as we heard, has been banned for a

:08:57. > :09:15.year. we heard, has been banned for a

:09:16. > :09:19.split opinions as to how efficient the system is. How do you feel about

:09:20. > :09:28.the way the case has been handled? I don't know the ins and outs of the

:09:29. > :09:34.case but whether either player was intentionally cheating or not, we

:09:35. > :09:42.don't know that. I don't think either of them are like that. But

:09:43. > :09:47.both of them, I think, were unprofessional. That's the

:09:48. > :09:50.situation. One of them refused to give a drugs test and we don't know

:09:51. > :09:55.exactly what was said in the room between the doping control officer

:09:56. > :10:02.and Viktor Troicki, but the reality is, there are rules there and you

:10:03. > :10:06.need to stick to what the rules are. You know, they are going to change

:10:07. > :10:25.them now where I think now there's going

:10:26. > :10:29.are told we have to do a drugs test, that is what the rules. It is

:10:30. > :10:36.unfortunate but you can't just the rules all the time. And I am happy

:10:37. > :10:38.that the drug testing is going in the right direction and we are

:10:39. > :10:44.starting to increase the drug testing, doing more testing and we

:10:45. > :10:48.have the biological passports for players. They're almost has to be a

:10:49. > :10:54.zero tolerance on stuff because if not, people think they can get away

:10:55. > :11:02.with anything. -- there almost has to be.

:11:03. > :11:08.Particularly by not giving a test by Viktor Troicki, it is a wake-up

:11:09. > :11:15.call, and it says, you don't leave, no matter what. Exactly. If you have

:11:16. > :11:35.been chosen for a drug test, whether that is a blood

:11:36. > :11:38.been chosen for a drug test, whether over-the-counter in a pharmacy, that

:11:39. > :11:41.is madness. And you have to be so careful. There have been

:11:42. > :11:45.contamination issues and as an athlete you know that if you are

:11:46. > :11:49.going to have some sort of supplement or even taking of

:11:50. > :11:52.medication, you go to a tournament doctor so that it can be monitored

:11:53. > :11:58.and everybody is aware if you need to take something. And for those

:11:59. > :12:01.guys, they have to suffer the consequences, and I think Andy

:12:02. > :12:05.rightly points out that there have been issues in other sports and

:12:06. > :12:08.there can easily be a scepticism in the public about sport, and tennis

:12:09. > :12:15.has to make sure it is whiter than white. Andy has been quite outspoken

:12:16. > :12:21.about this. He feels very strongly on this. He was very quick to go on

:12:22. > :12:26.social media on the day he was given his OBE to say that he had been

:12:27. > :12:44.asked to give an out of competition test himself. He was

:12:45. > :12:49.he makes there is that we would be naive to think everything was clean

:12:50. > :12:54.in the past. Because journalists are going to ask the question, well,

:12:55. > :12:58.what do you mean, Andy? And I think it would be wise not to say what he

:12:59. > :13:03.thinks. But to see him articulately putting across as point of view, and

:13:04. > :13:07.Federer, is fantastic. If you fail to give a sample and it is your word

:13:08. > :13:14.against the blood test's you are going to lose, and rightly so.

:13:15. > :13:18.Absolutely. If you want to have your say on this, get in touch with us.

:13:19. > :13:26.We will give you the address later on. Back to the tennis, and the

:13:27. > :13:30.match we are looking forward to is terrific, but what a match they had

:13:31. > :13:34.last night, with Rafa Nadal coming through against Tomas Berdych. This

:13:35. > :13:37.is how he finished it off and he finished it off in some style. In

:13:38. > :13:56.the second set, finished it off in some style. In

:13:57. > :14:02.won it with his 17th forehand winner. A brutal test physically and

:14:03. > :14:06.mentally. And he knew he was already through to the semifinal. I mean,

:14:07. > :14:17.you just wants to win every match he plays in. -- he just once. There was

:14:18. > :14:23.a bitter feeling at the end that Tomas Berdych was thinking, why are

:14:24. > :14:28.you taking so much time, Rafa? But as he said, he is playing some of

:14:29. > :14:32.the best tennis of his career. This will stand up into going through,

:14:33. > :14:41.celebrating his match against David Ferrer. He said he would buy Rafa

:14:42. > :14:46.dinner because him winning made him go through to the semifinals! He had

:14:47. > :14:47.chances in the first set and his effort was terrific. He didn't panic

:14:48. > :15:07.and effort was terrific. He didn't panic

:15:08. > :15:13.be facing Novak Djokovic, who has won that group. That will be one of

:15:14. > :15:17.the semifinals but we wait to see whether it will be Juan Martin Del

:15:18. > :15:23.Potro or Roger Federer. And they both know this so well. They have

:15:24. > :15:27.played 70 times, so many great matches, and this is their third

:15:28. > :15:35.meeting in three weeks. -- played so many times. Yes. This is why we are

:15:36. > :15:39.going to enjoy watching Roger play as well. He is playing against time,

:15:40. > :15:45.playing against the youngest, and he will have to avoid the weapons Juan

:15:46. > :15:49.Martin has. Look out for the little boy holding Juan Martin Del Potro

:15:50. > :15:54.backhand. He has motor neurone disease. -- holding Juan Martin's

:15:55. > :16:15.hand. disease. -- holding Juan Martin's

:16:16. > :16:19.this year off on a high, and to win this match, get through to the

:16:20. > :16:26.semifinals, there will be everything to play for. Six times champion but

:16:27. > :16:31.he didn't even know he would be here till last week. It has been a very

:16:32. > :16:35.different year for Roger. He is trying to prove something. It is

:16:36. > :16:43.great to watch. He will get a huge ovation! He comes.

:16:44. > :17:25.From Switzerland, Roger Federer! CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:17:26. > :17:30.season, the 2009 Barclays ATP World Tour finals runner-up, from

:17:31. > :18:02.Argentina, Juan Martin Del Potro! CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:18:03. > :18:08.And isn't it lovely to see the players reacting with the mascots,

:18:09. > :18:14.because this is a big day for them. And he is a lovely man, isn't he? A

:18:15. > :18:18.lovely man. And the little boy, the seven-year-old. I said to him, don't

:18:19. > :18:38.fall over, it is seven-year-old. I said to him, don't

:18:39. > :18:41.not supposed to move like this at over six foot tall. Federer is going

:18:42. > :18:48.to have to find the shots and creativity people know he has. Del

:18:49. > :18:53.Potro played such an amazing match against Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon

:18:54. > :18:58.and won so many fans. It was played in such great spirit. That is right.

:18:59. > :19:03.He has played so many great matches now. He played Federer in the

:19:04. > :19:07.Olympics and played that incredible match against Djokovic, as you said.

:19:08. > :19:10.And he is a force to be reckoned with. I'd think there are many

:19:11. > :19:21.players who hit the ball harder than him. -- I don't think. Federer has

:19:22. > :19:24.to keep you moving and if Del Potro can keep them from the baseline, you

:19:25. > :19:47.will make Federer's afternoon pretty difficult.

:19:48. > :19:58.receives. Thank you. A good match, gentlemen. A photo, please.

:19:59. > :20:08.It just shows how tall the guys are! She really need some higher heels

:20:09. > :20:15.on! I think she is a bit taller than that. Juan Martin is a towering

:20:16. > :20:21.figure, isn't he? They are deceptive in height and most people think

:20:22. > :20:26.Nadal is pretty short, but he is six foot one. It is about how you move.

:20:27. > :20:30.There is no point being six foot six if you, move around the court. And

:20:31. > :20:34.that is where he is so good. He has grown into his body and grown in the

:20:35. > :20:38.leg and got the endurance. He is absolutely one of the best players

:20:39. > :21:01.He was so proud to win that bronze talking about some of the

:21:02. > :21:06.He was so proud to win that bronze medal last year. And this is their

:21:07. > :21:11.third meeting in three weeks. What those two matches came down to was

:21:12. > :21:13.who was winning the majority of points when the second serve was in

:21:14. > :21:19.play. In other words, when the ball is being rallied from the back the

:21:20. > :21:22.court, who is winning them? For Federer to win them and ground

:21:23. > :21:26.stroke this guy on the court is a real challenge and a demand for

:21:27. > :21:28.him. You cannot leave the ball anywhere near the middle of the

:21:29. > :21:35.court or short because he gets his feet around it. So a key area today

:21:36. > :21:41.is, Federer has to play with purpose and with real clarity. He has to go

:21:42. > :21:46.to get to the backhand. And for all sorts of tactical reasons, that is

:21:47. > :21:49.fun to watch. It is going to be a great match. It

:21:50. > :22:11.fun to watch. It is going to be a 4-4. It is not that fast court. It

:22:12. > :22:16.will be a very interesting matchup. And he seems to be closing the gap

:22:17. > :22:18.on Federer because he has beaten him five times and three

:22:19. > :22:21.on Federer because he has beaten him come in the last few months. But his

:22:22. > :22:26.journey to Paris wasn't without incident.

:22:27. > :22:35.Juan Martin, by her jaw week started badly. Why was sorry to hear about

:22:36. > :22:42.the robbery in Paris. -- I heard your week started badly. Was

:22:43. > :22:56.anything personal take on? Yes. Many things. I had a blessing from the

:22:57. > :22:59.Pope so I will have to try to meet him again next year. How do

:23:00. > :23:19.Pope so I will have to try to meet next year. Some of the crowd were

:23:20. > :23:26.calling you Del boy. Have you seen him on action -- in action on the

:23:27. > :23:32.screen? Yes! When they call me it again, I will like it! You hit the

:23:33. > :23:35.ball incredibly hard. As the game becomes more physical and powerful,

:23:36. > :23:40.do you think you are hitting the ball with more power every year that

:23:41. > :23:46.goes by? I think so but also the courts are faster, the Bulls are

:23:47. > :23:56.faster, and that helps. That helps my game for sure. -- the balls. If

:23:57. > :24:01.the surface is faster it is better for my game as well. How much would

:24:02. > :24:06.it mean to you to finish the year as world number three, which is a real

:24:07. > :24:09.possibility? It is a possibility but I have to do very well here. If

:24:10. > :24:31.not, I have to do very well here. If

:24:32. > :24:41.this show. It is my fourth Masters Cup so if I reach it once again, it

:24:42. > :24:45.will be making a little history for my country and for South America in

:24:46. > :24:51.the sport, which is another extra motivation for me.

:24:52. > :24:56.Every time I hear him interviewed, he is such a nice guy. So sorry to

:24:57. > :25:01.hear about what happened to him. Let's talk about the wrist injury

:25:02. > :25:08.because he was on his way right up to the top of the rankings when it

:25:09. > :25:13.happened in 2009? Yes. It is actually the left wrist, as with a

:25:14. > :25:17.lot of two-handed backhanders. When they are on the run, they are trying

:25:18. > :25:20.to flick the ball back and when you get a tendon injury like that, it is

:25:21. > :25:40.very, get a tendon injury like that, it is

:25:41. > :25:43.Del Potro to have been US Open champion and then fall down the

:25:44. > :25:46.rankings and come back up to where he is now, he is going to be the

:25:47. > :25:53.future of the game. He will be around for a long, long time. That

:25:54. > :25:58.is Del Potro but what about Federer? 30 unforced errors against

:25:59. > :26:06.Richard Gasquet. He won't be allowed to do that today? Exactly. When the

:26:07. > :26:09.standard dips they make more unforced errors than we're used to

:26:10. > :26:15.seeing and he can't do that today. He has to get the balance between

:26:16. > :26:21.energy and aggression and cut out the unforced errors. It is fitting.

:26:22. > :26:25.The winner of this match goes through to the semifinals. Federer

:26:26. > :26:30.never talks about his injuries were a much but the back injury has

:26:31. > :26:30.affected him this year, not just in matches but in

:26:31. > :26:51.had, it has restricted him. I'd feel he is a bit undercooked because of

:26:52. > :26:55.that and win this tournament is finished, he will have a very busy

:26:56. > :26:59.and intensive training period so that when he starts in Australia, he

:27:00. > :27:06.will hit the ground running. It is going to boil down to who can create

:27:07. > :27:11.the opportunities and take their break point chances in this match.

:27:12. > :27:15.It's going to be decided by fine margins. It certainly is and we are

:27:16. > :27:20.going to enjoy it. If you want to have your say, you can tweet us at

:27:21. > :29:12.#bbctennis. Or you can add comments to our Facebook page.

:29:13. > :29:19.this one. You thought Federer would make that to the net. Suddenly Del

:29:20. > :29:22.Potro was on the attack. He always looks so relaxed at the beginning of

:29:23. > :30:24.the match but he can't start off complacent.

:30:25. > :30:32.It is dancing on a kind, to skip over that backhand side and unleash

:30:33. > :30:33.on the forehand. Two great points saved, crucial moments just three

:30:34. > :30:39.minutes into the match. That is a bad one and that is a

:30:40. > :30:56.break. Small margins, isn't it? This is

:30:57. > :31:04.what you are talking about in the studio. Small margins, but again,

:31:05. > :31:08.why was Federer in trouble there, love 40 down? Unforced errors. You

:31:09. > :31:11.almost sense the intensity love 40 down? Unforced errors. You

:31:12. > :32:42.Federer's game that need attention. Potro's semifinal this year, he lost

:32:43. > :32:43.to Djokovic, four hours 40 minutes, the longest semifinal in Wimbledon

:32:44. > :32:56.ever. The point about that match was, it

:32:57. > :33:02.was his first grand slam semifinal since he won the US Open in 2009. It

:33:03. > :33:05.seems amazing to me, that Del Potro had that much time between really

:33:06. > :33:19.getting into the money at a grand slam.

:33:20. > :33:23.That is a backhand, that one, that is a tough one to deal with for

:33:24. > :34:13.anybody! Oh, he has just pulled out wide. Del

:34:14. > :34:14.Potro maintained a lovely rhythm despite the net called in the middle

:34:15. > :34:27.of the rally. The Argentine player yet to bring

:34:28. > :35:05.the big artillery off the ground, but not many to many

:35:06. > :35:08.Second serve, deuce, trying to get back into the match, a big match for

:35:09. > :35:30.him. Risky business running around the

:35:31. > :35:38.second if you do not hit a winner on that second, Del Potro will pick you

:35:39. > :35:47.off and it is 2-love. He is from Argentina, he is from a pretty small

:35:48. > :35:49.town, 100,000 people. Six professional players have come from

:35:50. > :36:22.The light is of -- the likes of DMO this town. It has produced

:36:23. > :36:59.The light is of -- the likes of DMO Peres, all from this Courtown.

:37:00. > :38:02.I wonder whether we will see any 100 mph forehands today?

:38:03. > :38:08.Roger Federer played a better game there, he executed the shots better.

:38:09. > :38:30.There were definitely so much more intent. The first game came, three

:38:31. > :38:33.There were definitely so much more years, it seems like that. John

:38:34. > :38:38.McEnroe has said many times, and I agree with this point, I would love

:38:39. > :38:43.to get your view, the concentration is what goes. It is not so much the

:38:44. > :38:51.physicality. Perhaps, but I don't think that's quite... In an event of

:38:52. > :38:57.this nature, perhaps in a more mundane tour event, a world tour

:38:58. > :39:01.final, deciding match to get to the semifinals, that will still get

:39:02. > :39:06.Federer's interest levels up. For me when he has not played his best, it

:39:07. > :39:10.is so important to come out with the correct intentions and he did not do

:39:11. > :39:13.that. He has given Del Potro the perfect start and made life a little

:39:14. > :39:22.bit difficult for himself. There is obviously a long way to go. Del

:39:23. > :40:10.Potro has the break of serve, Federer's opening serve game broken.

:40:11. > :40:13.That was a reasonable technique from Del Potro on the Whalley, did well,

:40:14. > :43:17.but slapped away. Well done! If you can get it over

:43:18. > :43:22.Del Potro's head, you must be running forward pretty fast and he

:43:23. > :43:27.was there. Unable to get up. The drop shot, first one on the forehand

:43:28. > :43:31.side, follows it in, this is nice. Whenever these go over your head you

:43:32. > :43:34.think, blimey, what am I going to do?

:43:35. > :43:46.It is quite a big gap when his seat go apart!

:43:47. > :43:54.He does move well, Del Potro. How can it be a feature of a game from a

:43:55. > :43:56.man who is six foot six? It's definitely didn't happen a few years

:43:57. > :44:46.ago. When you are six foot 60 have also

:44:47. > :44:49.got long arms. And when you do not with the serve, they will come back

:44:50. > :45:12.pretty quick. There are two points to movement,

:45:13. > :45:40.there is a That is so not the play. The

:45:41. > :45:44.concentration is not there, the execution is not there. You have got

:45:45. > :45:49.to grind it out and he does not look like he is in the mood right now. I

:45:50. > :45:53.am not saying that he may not find that sort of mood but he is going to

:45:54. > :46:15.have to work for this. There is no sign of work on that one.

:46:16. > :46:22.From 40-love up, Federer dropped his serve and the set will probably

:46:23. > :46:43.follow soon. serve and the set will probably

:46:44. > :46:50.drop shots... But a slice, a sliced ball from Del Potro, a sliced drop

:46:51. > :46:53.shot from behind the baseline, I have never seen. That is fooling

:46:54. > :46:59.around tennis. That is exhibition stuff. We talked about Federer's

:47:00. > :47:02.levels, the good bit has still been very good. It is the inconsistency

:47:03. > :47:07.which has crept into his game over the last six months. They have

:47:08. > :47:12.played five games, nine unforced error, making two unforced errors

:47:13. > :47:16.again, you give your opponent a 30-love start and it is very

:47:17. > :47:23.difficult from there. Federer have to cut that out, simple as that. You

:47:24. > :47:27.do not win over 900 matches on tour and produce everything that Federer

:47:28. > :47:32.has without sometimes, when you are not feeling like you fancy it,

:47:33. > :47:53.grinding and working and getting some gutsy point out, he is really

:47:54. > :47:56.such a long period of time, Federer was so dominant. He was so much

:47:57. > :48:00.better than everyone else, he was able to win very easily and now that

:48:01. > :48:03.is not the case. Other players have improved and now he has got to use

:48:04. > :48:07.all the different attribute and one of those is the mental side of

:48:08. > :48:23.things. It is being out there to grind at times.

:48:24. > :48:31.It is interesting points you raise, the guys winning the slams around

:48:32. > :48:35.that time, the generation you are part of, is this generation that

:48:36. > :48:45.much better? I think so, they have taken the game to new heights.

:48:46. > :49:08.Hewitt, Agassi were still around. I only stopped playing six years ago,

:49:09. > :49:12.and there were times when I cannot really relate with the way they hit

:49:13. > :50:40.the ball. It is so hard and aggressive and consistent.

:50:41. > :50:46.Talking about the players that came out of his home town, six guys, top

:50:47. > :50:57.prize-winning players, top 100, maybe top ten. Marcella Gomez was

:50:58. > :50:59.the coach who got him into the game, he said, people do not like school,

:51:00. > :52:12.they prefer sports! And sometimes, it seems, having a

:52:13. > :52:14.big team around them, it can actually dilate the attention. He

:52:15. > :52:32.has got actually dilate the attention. He

:52:33. > :52:39.around him. But is really nothing new. He is having to deal with a lot

:52:40. > :52:43.more challenges on the court at the moment. You can look at stats and

:52:44. > :52:52.sometimes they mean more than others. Only 63% on your first serve

:52:53. > :52:57.and 47% on your second serve, that is not what it used to be. 11

:52:58. > :53:01.unforced errors after seven games. He's doing his best to resist

:53:02. > :53:07.watching some of the rallies up on the screen here at the O2 Arena. It

:53:08. > :53:12.is the world 's tour Championships here. Eight players came here, the

:53:13. > :53:16.eight players who have had the best player and who were available. And

:53:17. > :53:21.the Murray, the Wimbledon champion electing to have a back operation,

:53:22. > :53:41.recovering pretty well. -- Andy Murray. Even

:53:42. > :54:52.recovering pretty well. -- Andy what is now quite a wintry November.

:54:53. > :54:59.We have seen that several times from Roger Federer, particularly against

:55:00. > :55:05.Richard Gasquet. Feigning the drop shot, driving through but no one is

:55:06. > :55:08.buying it. I do not understand why you were to hit a sliced forehand

:55:09. > :55:16.when you have got his top-spin forehand. I do not think he is

:55:17. > :55:20.playing around, I do not he has got a clear game plan in his mind. If he

:55:21. > :55:41.does not get one soon, he's going to be getting on holiday.

:55:42. > :56:15.In the meantime, he has managed to carve out three break points here.

:56:16. > :56:40.When it gaps in that position, that part of the court with that much

:56:41. > :56:41.time, you have just got to keep going for the forehand. It is as

:56:42. > :57:55.good a shot as there is. That was a long way over the net.

:57:56. > :58:23.Give it some air, let the spin hit the court!

:58:24. > :58:27.It is funny how it can be relatively one-sided, this set, and they played

:58:28. > :58:52.48 points and it is 24 all. I wonder if Del Potro is looking

:58:53. > :58:53.forward to the next game? He cannot do any worse than his previous

:58:54. > :58:59.service game. Three straight games, Federer is

:59:00. > :59:14.back in against Del Potro. They are playing for a place in the

:59:15. > :59:32.semifinals, it is a straight play-off. Both

:59:33. > :59:40.real prize at stake. It is a big match and it is a season close for

:59:41. > :59:46.both. On the e-mail, Dean says, sorry, I do not want that one! I am

:59:47. > :59:51.not going to ask your question. Jake does not seek Del Potro as a one

:59:52. > :59:56.slam wonders, what is your views? I think he is improving, it came as a

:59:57. > :00:03.surprise when he came to win that US Open final, Federer was leading to

:00:04. > :00:06.set up. I see his game improving, he hits the ball is as good as any, he

:00:07. > :00:10.has got the belief in the big matches and I would not be surprised

:00:11. > :00:15.if he won more slams in the future. You are quite firm that you did not

:00:16. > :00:20.think Stanislas Wawrinka would win. They are at different stages of

:00:21. > :00:25.their career, I can see than having a big win, I can see him being up to

:00:26. > :00:45.Well, wherever Roger Federer was in number five or

:00:46. > :00:49.Well, wherever Roger Federer was in his head 15, 20 minutes ago, he

:00:50. > :00:51.seems to be somewhere a bit different now. He has won three

:00:52. > :02:01.straight games. right there. The intensity went up

:02:02. > :02:06.about eightfold in that rally. Both players knew how important the first

:02:07. > :02:25.point of the game was. His wife did, too.

:02:26. > :03:46.Looks like a badminton racket in his hand, doesn't it?

:03:47. > :03:56.UMPIRE: Mr Federer is challenging the call on the right far sideline.

:03:57. > :05:35.Del Ha, ha! That was an unbelievable lob

:05:36. > :05:40.from Federer. Off this approach Shia, Federer timed his approach to

:05:41. > :05:44.the backhand side so well. Del Potro would have picked him off. -- this

:05:45. > :06:14.approach here. Unbelievable! Not uneasy serve. Will portray's

:06:15. > :07:09.ball toss going along way to the left. -- Del

:07:10. > :07:19.Oh, my! This is possibly the best hitting we have seen all week. Some

:07:20. > :07:25.of those slices... They are taking the heads of daisies! UC rallies

:07:26. > :07:46.That's fabulous. Federer's thinking Federer's levels.

:07:47. > :07:49.That's fabulous. Federer's thinking about challenging it but it's

:07:50. > :08:10.pointless. Del Potro is saying, what about the

:08:11. > :08:14.timing on this? Instantaneous. It is good, this. Head-to-head. Toe to

:08:15. > :09:11.toe. Man-to-man! You have to take your hat off to

:09:12. > :09:15.Juan Martin Del Potro because most people here are very much enjoying

:09:16. > :09:21.the thought of Federer getting back up to 5-5 and Del Potro has shown

:09:22. > :09:27.what he is made of there. Forehands, backhands. He is just reliable in a

:09:28. > :09:31.big situation, isn't he? He certainly is, and that is a tough

:09:32. > :09:39.game. He lost 12 points in a row early on... And he had to really

:09:40. > :09:47.come up with the goods then. Based on break point down, unreturnable

:09:48. > :10:06.serve. Is there anything that leaps out at

:10:07. > :10:12.serve. Is there anything that leaps putting down, his first serve. The

:10:13. > :10:24.engage came back almost but it went. He has made life more to -- more

:10:25. > :10:29.difficult for himself. Do you want a chance to win your cup of tea back?

:10:30. > :10:41.You only three cups of tea. I can't deny that! -- you only. I am betting

:10:42. > :10:47.on Del Potro so you got to have Federer. One cup of tea, I'll go

:10:48. > :10:54.with Federer. You can never go too far wrong betting on Federer on a

:10:55. > :11:15.tennis court! But he's going to have to fight back here. It

:11:16. > :11:17.tennis court! But he's going to have have been, and it is

:11:18. > :11:23.crossgenerational now, which is the thing we talk about with Roger,

:11:24. > :11:33.Agassi, Hewitt, James Blake, David Ferrer, Nadal and Tsonga. This is a

:11:34. > :11:42.straight play-off for a semifinal place.

:11:43. > :12:03.Semifinals tomorrow, final on Monday.

:12:04. > :12:49.down and watch some of this comfortably enough.

:12:50. > :12:58.Is that the best match you saw, Nadal against Federer 2008? For me,

:12:59. > :13:03.that is still the greatest singles match ever saw. I would have to

:13:04. > :13:10.agree with you. It had everything. Nadal dominating 2-0, rain delay,

:13:11. > :13:12.Federer comes back wins the tie-break, it was getting dark, 9-7

:13:13. > :14:51.in the fifth. Amazing. Played in the late 80s, early 90s. A

:14:52. > :15:29.lefty, that man. Five foot nine, good on clay, good draw on grass.

:15:30. > :15:35.Watching him walk around with his coach is like watching a great Dane

:15:36. > :17:56.walk around with a Chihuahua. So funny! With respect

:17:57. > :18:39.14 wins for Federer in the head to head.

:18:40. > :18:49.He has cut it a little bit to find. That was the right time to play the

:18:50. > :18:54.drop shot. He had the short ball and had act Del Potro up with the serve.

:18:55. > :18:57.Didn't need to be that good anywhere over the net because he would have

:18:58. > :20:48.won the point anywhere. Now he is in trouble.

:20:49. > :20:55.He can't wait until the end of sets to get fired up and get back into

:20:56. > :20:59.it. You lay the foundation at the beginning. And you have to say, by

:21:00. > :21:07.his very high standards, this was sloppy work by Federer. Good work by

:21:08. > :21:11.Del Potro. Absolutely. Del Potro is doing everything he needs to do. He

:21:12. > :21:26.was unlucky on the first point, Federer. Del Potro was able to pick

:21:27. > :21:29.him off on the passing shot. Really, three unforced errors and one good

:21:30. > :21:47.point from Del Potro and he's three unforced errors and one good

:21:48. > :21:51.plays in the semifinal? I'm not sure. Obviously he has a huge

:21:52. > :21:55.history against Federer. They've had some of the amazing match-ups we've

:21:56. > :22:00.talked about. Does he think Federer is not playing so well so maybe he's

:22:01. > :22:05.got a chance of rolling him over to get to the final? I don't know.

:22:06. > :22:10.He's so good mentally, you's going to concentrate on the things he can

:22:11. > :25:35.control, and that is his preparation and performance. -- he's going to.

:25:36. > :25:47.Swearing in one of his five languages there!

:25:48. > :26:08.This is a bit like David Ferrer yesterday. Most unusual.

:26:09. > :27:14.And the biggest distraction for him is his play.

:27:15. > :27:51.Having said that, he's got to keep in touch. Can't afford to

:27:52. > :28:03.Well, at least he did there what he didn't do in the first set, which is

:28:04. > :28:08.holed his serve. Almost crisis motivation seems to get him going.

:28:09. > :28:13.And people will say, how can you not get going in an arena like this, a

:28:14. > :28:20.match like this? Let's answer the question. Well, he is going. It's

:28:21. > :28:24.not that he's not trying. It is just the concentration and clarity of

:28:25. > :28:26.thought when he is playing these points. Should he have a coach,

:28:27. > :28:48.then? He has let several go. points. Should he have a coach,

:28:49. > :28:51.it is a bit like when we talk about the drop shot, when he is hitting

:28:52. > :28:55.the slice forehand on coming to the net. He has got to ingrain the

:28:56. > :28:59.better habits again on the practice court and he hasn't really had the

:29:00. > :29:02.opportunities. He has talked about how some of the practice sessions

:29:03. > :29:07.are being curtailed with the back issues he has had over the year. But

:29:08. > :29:15.for me, this is where, irrespective of what happens in this match, this

:29:16. > :29:19.off-season for Federer is going to be very important for him to get

:29:20. > :29:29.back to the basics, work on his game and try to improve. Because if you

:29:30. > :29:34.have -- you have to keep improving. He has got to get the consistency

:29:35. > :30:05.back in his serve. He can still cover the net better. Volley better.

:30:06. > :31:38.Got away with that one! That was a terrible drop shot.

:31:39. > :31:46.You can always be a little bit grateful with some help from your

:31:47. > :31:48.opponent. Del Potro making a couple of unforced errors, here are some

:31:49. > :32:38.points for Federer. Are you still working out to the

:32:39. > :32:43.crowd wants to win? No matter who he plays, they want him to win. When he

:32:44. > :32:51.has won the Wimbledons that he has, and he has given the memories, he

:32:52. > :32:58.deserves support. It is just the way he plays.

:32:59. > :33:08.Perhaps the next two Wimbledons or three, you know at some point he has

:33:09. > :35:10.got to get a run going. The crowd will not let him loose. Until

:35:11. > :35:18.Need a crash helmet when you come in against that, look at that, in 11

:35:19. > :35:29.straight points! Trying to back off from hitting right at him there.

:35:30. > :35:53.pretty hard to take an idea out of thin air as to what is happening

:35:54. > :35:59.next. There are a lot of swings and roundabouts. It looked like Del

:36:00. > :36:04.Potro was looking to stamp his authority, and then 12 points in a

:36:05. > :36:10.row, suddenly he sits down serving 3-4. I think that is what we have

:36:11. > :36:14.not seen from Federer for so many years, it is this fluctuation. We

:36:15. > :36:18.have been privileged to watch him playing at such a consistently high

:36:19. > :36:22.level and all of a sudden, he still plays his moment of brilliance but

:36:23. > :36:31.there have been some big dip in there as well.

:36:32. > :36:38.You know when they watch themselves on the big screen here? Do you think

:36:39. > :36:40.there is any advantage to be gained, if that's come up? Would

:36:41. > :37:00.seeing stats, gained, if that's come up? Would

:37:01. > :37:06.if a statistic came up that said, he does not ever win a point on the

:37:07. > :37:08.second serve? You would not get confident. You would roll couple of

:37:09. > :37:15.first be back in! This match does not feel like it has

:37:16. > :37:33.been about statistics at all. Statistics just give you a pattern.

:37:34. > :37:37.They are too often the refuge of scoundrels. Actions speak louder

:37:38. > :37:48.than words. A couple of solid first serve their

:37:49. > :38:52.from Del Potro. Federer just throwing in something

:38:53. > :38:55.different at the end of the game. Just to throw Del Potro afterward

:38:56. > :41:02.will bet, throw caution to the wind. Here is a really important game.

:41:03. > :41:07.When you deal with adversity, you need all your mental energy. And

:41:08. > :41:08.these boys haven't got all their mental energy after 11 months of

:41:09. > :41:42.this year. Us on a knife edge. racket. After being all things for

:41:43. > :41:47.all people for so long, you think, cannot be bothered any more. He was

:41:48. > :41:51.already out of it, he had lost his opening matches. And he said that

:41:52. > :41:55.with these two, both punchy. I do, they are both on the edge, they have

:41:56. > :42:01.had their good moments and their tricky moments. At this stage in the

:42:02. > :42:07.second set, this stage of the match, it can really turn on a couple of

:42:08. > :42:17.points. A decent hold from love-15 from Federer. No Davis Cup final

:42:18. > :42:22.this year for these players. That will feature Serbia in Belgrade

:42:23. > :42:29.against the Czech Republic, led by Tomas Berdych. So Djokovic has some

:42:30. > :42:31.work to do. I mean, he has had the most stunning time since the U.S.

:42:32. > :42:54.Open. most stunning time since the U.S.

:42:55. > :44:00.Barclays ATP World Tour finals. It will be one of these two.

:44:01. > :44:05.Excellent work from Del Potro. Federer will feel he should have got

:44:06. > :44:11.the ball over his head but that was lovely work. It is good speed and

:44:12. > :44:17.good control. This shot, he just dropped it back at Federer's deep

:44:18. > :44:20.and he was a little bit casual. Who knew it was going to be worked over

:44:21. > :45:37.so he got his racket up. You used to do that! It is a nice

:45:38. > :45:41.tactic, getting Del Potro out of his comfort zone, making him move

:45:42. > :45:43.forward, he had to come to the net. He needed to do a little bit more

:45:44. > :45:53.with the passing shot. Big body serve, 130 miles an hour,

:45:54. > :45:59.that is his most improved shot over the last few years, Del Potro. He

:46:00. > :46:02.has put muscle on. It already comes down from, he is six foot six high

:46:03. > :48:08.plus the long answer it comes from eight tough angle.

:48:09. > :48:15.Could have been out of this match, Del Potro had a break of serve in

:48:16. > :48:21.the second set. Federer climbed back into it with 12 straight points. And

:48:22. > :48:23.now it is even Stevens. It is going to be moved from somebody at some

:48:24. > :48:41.point here. Who to be moved from somebody at some

:48:42. > :48:48.zone, there are so many activities here. Quarter of a million people

:48:49. > :48:53.here to enjoy the tennis. What has been the match of the week so far,

:48:54. > :49:00.tennis wise? The Dow has been sensational, also Djokovic. They

:49:01. > :49:05.have stood out. Rafael Nadal and Stanislas Wawrinka for me, I was

:49:06. > :49:12.impressed with Wawrinka. He has never won a set, match or tie-break

:49:13. > :49:17.against founder Dell, he really -- against Rafael Nadal. He threw

:49:18. > :49:31.everything at it. Federer and Djokovic before this?

:49:32. > :49:52.The winner of this plays Rafael Nadal.

:49:53. > :49:53.The winner of this plays Rafael Please join us. Del Potro looking to

:49:54. > :50:08.stay in the set now. Caught in two minds there, Del

:50:09. > :50:37.Potro. Oh, the defensive lob was

:50:38. > :51:54.magnificent! Just brushed Federer prepared to get dirty on

:51:55. > :52:31.this point, that was a lunch. -- a lunge.

:52:32. > :52:49.To get! -- to good! Federer wanted more work on those slices. If you

:52:50. > :53:02.leave it in the middle of the court, he is just going to smack it.

:53:03. > :53:30.OK, it was called out. Second serve, though.

:53:31. > :53:39.Well done, Del Potro, for finding the court, but come on, Federer. The

:53:40. > :53:47.delay normally upsets the person who is serving. Bad luck. Second serve,

:53:48. > :53:48.89 miles an hour, little of the box, Federer chipped it back into

:53:49. > :54:12.the net. You are kidding! How is that for

:54:13. > :54:15.defence? It was attacked, he hit a winner!

:54:16. > :54:35.defence? It was attacked, he hit a wins, we are heading through to a

:54:36. > :55:01.deciding set. So who do you fancy? Your choice! Federer!

:55:02. > :55:12.Talked about how they played in the last two weeks, the final in Paris

:55:13. > :55:16.and Basel. Del Potro winning in Basel, won the tie there. In Paris,

:55:17. > :56:29.a shoot out. The last five minutes, we have seen

:56:30. > :58:30.real lunges at the net. He is throwing it all here.

:58:31. > :58:36.He didn't go one side or the other, he went straight at the big man who

:58:37. > :58:44.could not control the body. The Swiss maestro welkin control of this

:58:45. > :58:46.tie-break now. -- well in control. Two service holds at 5-2 and the set

:58:47. > :59:16.is his. That is page one of the Federer

:59:17. > :59:26.Handbook, big serve out wide, forehand away and four setpoints.

:59:27. > :59:35.We are going the distance here. Federer, a set and a break down, has

:59:36. > :59:36.fought back. One-sided tie-breaker and we are looking forward to the

:59:37. > :59:52.finitely. One set all. SUE BARKER: just when you think it

:59:53. > :59:56.is all over for Federer, he seems to find another gear and a little bit

:59:57. > :00:02.of brilliance to prove everyone wrong. 17,000 people here in the O2

:00:03. > :00:03.arena are delighted this is going the distance, they are thoroughly

:00:04. > :00:24.enjoying this contest, the distance, they are thoroughly

:00:25. > :00:29.Three, because we are moving away from BBC Two for the final. 7:30pm

:00:30. > :00:33.on BBC Three. No surprise that this has gone to three sets, because of

:00:34. > :00:40.their history, we are in for a real treat. I think you could have a

:00:41. > :00:46.fourth cup of tea coming your way! He has already got his fourth cup of

:00:47. > :00:54.tea! It will be five! It is beginners luck. Watching tennis so

:00:55. > :00:58.many years, certainly the most elegant shotmaker I have ever seen

:00:59. > :01:04.is Roger Federer. But to win all the titles that he has, it is the

:01:05. > :01:08.ability to fight when the chips are down which is often hidden by the

:01:09. > :01:12.deep shotmaking. You played him when he was probably 17 or 18 or 19? Do

:01:13. > :01:33.you remember your first time? he was probably 17 or 18 or 19? Do

:01:34. > :01:36.when he won a second set tie-break, how much it means to him and how

:01:37. > :01:42.hard he will fight. One area that I have been very impressed with is his

:01:43. > :01:50.forays to the net. He has been to the net is 20 times in the match and

:01:51. > :01:57.he has won 17 of those points. And some of that has been superb volley

:01:58. > :02:01.technique at times, not just the quality of approach, though that is

:02:02. > :02:05.a big part of it. But he has been prepared to come up and lunge and

:02:06. > :02:09.fight. Doesn't want to be sticking around the baseline to much of the

:02:10. > :02:19.time. Avoiding the pressure from Del Potro. And from that early set in

:02:20. > :02:23.the start, he had some unforced winners and now 26 winners, 22

:02:24. > :02:44.unforced errors. winners and now 26 winners, 22

:02:45. > :02:46.to win the breaker, so it is a set all and one set to decide the

:02:47. > :04:24.semifinal place. Goes about his business, doesn't he,

:04:25. > :04:28.Juan Martin? Walks really slowly. A language roll around the court. But

:04:29. > :04:39.then the points start and there is an intensity to his movement. -- a

:04:40. > :04:43.languid. The slice has been effective today and there's been

:04:44. > :04:45.variety on it. Perhaps the topspin... It has been there to hit,

:04:46. > :05:12.hasn't Important games early in the third

:05:13. > :05:22.set. Both players will be looking to try

:05:23. > :05:43.to gain an advantage early on. Federer was down two breaks in the

:05:44. > :07:35.first set. A while before he woke up.

:07:36. > :07:52.Just not there. They tend to follow patterns. Here we go again. Federer

:07:53. > :07:58.just not engaging from the word go. But unfortunately for Federer, the

:07:59. > :08:06.pattern that repeats itself is when he makes one unforced error, he then

:08:07. > :08:11.makes two, three, four. Not doing a great deal, Del Potro... Normally

:08:12. > :08:16.when you break Federer's serve, you've got to get two or three

:08:17. > :08:48.winners. UMPIRE: Mr Del Potro is challenging

:08:49. > :09:00.the call. She wasn't hanging her head there, was she? A bit of a

:09:01. > :09:11.stair from Roger. Nasty as well. She didn't do it on purpose.

:09:12. > :09:19.You see, that is what happens, and that is what Roger is talking to the

:09:20. > :09:23.lines lady about. He gets a first serve again. But this is pretty

:09:24. > :11:46.unusual for Federer. And not very nice.

:11:47. > :12:18.That is clean hitting of serve. -- to back up. In 2009,

:12:19. > :12:34.you went one better as a finalist. -- he went. Robin Soderling.

:12:35. > :12:43.Del Potro has been here before. He's no inexperienced young player.

:12:44. > :12:53.But he's going to have to maintain his concentration here. Del Potro

:12:54. > :13:26.has hit two winners and one unforced error. But he is up 3-0,

:13:27. > :13:35.The winner of this match to play Rafa Nadal in a blockbuster tomorrow

:13:36. > :13:40.on BBC Two at 2pm. The final is on at 7:30pm on Monday, BBC Three.

:13:41. > :13:54.Monday evening, the final of this tournament.

:13:55. > :14:00.People behind the server's shoulder just making their way in, so the

:14:01. > :14:03.players waiting. And even though they are in the dark in the

:14:04. > :15:35.audience, the players will see movement.

:15:36. > :15:40.And now the comeback begins. You think? Want to put another cup of

:15:41. > :15:48.tea on it? I thought I've got Del Potro to win this match? Oh, yes.

:15:49. > :15:53.For once I feel happy with my decision! We will see in ten minutes

:15:54. > :16:14.time. The power, just reached up, looked

:16:15. > :16:48.this one back. -- hooked. Juan Martin Del Potro's coach will

:16:49. > :17:54.be taking anything for granted at the moment. -- will not be.

:17:55. > :19:18.Potro, getting that shop act. -- that shot back.

:19:19. > :20:50.And some people want to move this tournament away from London...

:20:51. > :22:03.Federer didn't realise they had to change ends! That is getting old or

:22:04. > :22:09.right! Engrossed in the task. He must have realised he had broken

:22:10. > :22:15.serve! Engrossed in the task or on absolute automatic pilot? They say

:22:16. > :22:34.it's process, not outcome. You've got to play the point

:22:35. > :22:38.it's process, not outcome. You've a bit far. He will realise he's have

:22:39. > :22:42.these chances and opportunities to win the match and he is still out

:22:43. > :23:05.there hour and 54 minutes, back on serve. -- and our -- an hour. But

:23:06. > :23:11.then he upped his game, Federer, cuts out the unforced errors. And

:23:12. > :23:15.then descending like a demon on the backhand side. That is committing an

:23:16. > :25:05.digging, isn't it? Eking deep. OK... Hush Mac digging deep.

:25:06. > :25:10.That's a big miss. Kicking serve to the line. But Del Potro would be

:25:11. > :26:17.very disappointed with that. I'm surprised she can lift her left

:26:18. > :26:24.hand, with that what on it! -- that rock! That was a dangerous place to

:26:25. > :27:27.come in. Nadal has been on this court

:27:28. > :27:31.accepting his trophy for being number one ranking. And the player

:27:32. > :27:47.of the year. He will be watching this to see who

:27:48. > :28:38.will be his semifinal player. A bruising contest now. Two hours.

:28:39. > :28:53.Federer winning 92% of first serve points won. 11 out of 12 for the

:28:54. > :29:58.first and one out of eight for the second. Indeed. A vital seventh.

:29:59. > :30:04.bruising contest now. Two hours. That is well handled, Del Potro!

:30:05. > :30:12.Showed some techniques on that backhand, goodness me. The

:30:13. > :30:14.background was wonderful there. You cannot do much more than that with

:30:15. > :30:49.those. Very tidy. It was a fairly noncommittal call

:30:50. > :30:56.out, she did not correct herself on the baseline. In the third game,

:30:57. > :31:06.Federer in exactly the same position. He saw an ace fly by him.

:31:07. > :31:07.And Del Potro will have a first serve here. It was a different lines

:31:08. > :32:46.lady. He has lost his fair share of the

:32:47. > :33:07.long, He has lost his fair share of the

:33:08. > :33:16.Wimbledon, the longest semifinal in history. And the Olympic Games, 3-6,

:33:17. > :33:22.7-6, 19-17. And the people that beat him in those marathon matches went

:33:23. > :33:27.on to compete against Andy Murray in those important finals for British

:33:28. > :33:32.tennis. You just wonder if it is his turn to win one of these things at

:33:33. > :33:40.some point. He has a very fine hold of serve from Love 15, from Del

:33:41. > :33:43.Potro. Is there any conscious thought in those changeovers or do

:33:44. > :33:47.you just that time pass and come out? It is important that you are

:33:48. > :33:53.concentrating on that game plan. It is important in every tournament how

:33:54. > :33:56.important the first point is, that is what they will be focused all

:33:57. > :34:44.on. The server, Once you have placed the point like

:34:45. > :34:46.that, though you focus on the second point. A big kick out wide? With the

:34:47. > :35:34.forehand. That was a real working 99 mile in

:35:35. > :35:35.our second serve. Into the body, going through the courts with some

:35:36. > :36:36.muscle. message to Del Potro. The crowd are

:36:37. > :38:14.sending a message to Roger. Oh, yes, just too good. That is a

:38:15. > :38:17.fantastic response. It is not always easy to generate this much power

:38:18. > :38:24.when the ball is not coming too quickly. But total commitment. And

:38:25. > :39:36.down, love 15 and for all. It is a big shot.

:39:37. > :39:45.To lose a first point as he did, in spectacular fashion, actually, but

:39:46. > :39:46.be the best point in the match with the exhibition point between the

:39:47. > :40:08.legs and come back and hit clean the exhibition point between the

:40:09. > :40:14.position? It was a spectacular point. And when Federer hit this

:40:15. > :40:22.shot past him, he would have really been sensing his opportunity.

:40:23. > :40:30.Evidence of this fantastic athletic ability, and the work he has put in

:40:31. > :40:36.as well, from Federer. Staying down, his weight is so low. Driving

:40:37. > :40:43.through the wall. Players will practice this little bit, especially

:40:44. > :40:48.nowadays. He meant that shot. He certainly did. I've seen Nadal do it

:40:49. > :40:53.on clay, he has done it straight back over. Della macro we have seen

:40:54. > :41:00.Federer hit a couple of winners between the legs. I have seen some

:41:01. > :41:18.players do it five times in a point. But to

:41:19. > :41:19.players do it five times in a point. 2pm on Sunday. Del Potro is just

:41:20. > :42:36.four points away. Good disguise, set up as if he is

:42:37. > :42:38.going to rip the forehand. Such a good serve, Del Potro was

:42:39. > :42:40.backtracking to give himself more time and that opened up the

:42:41. > :44:17.forecourt. Federer does not like to serve with

:44:18. > :44:24.a fresh racket for new balls, so he's changing his racket. One game

:44:25. > :44:25.before the new balls. What about the 25 seconds between points, when I go

:44:26. > :45:18.to have to come out and serve? There is no doubt Del Potro has got

:45:19. > :45:22.to be a little bit fatigued. Can Federer really work him over with

:45:23. > :45:28.the forehand, getting going side to side, give himself the opportunity

:45:29. > :46:41.to move forward's 21 of 28 points he has won at the net.

:46:42. > :47:54.Strong to the forehand to open up the backhand.

:47:55. > :48:18.Federer gets the ledger, of a play on the second return of serve,

:48:19. > :48:20.Federer gets the ledger, of a play this match, almost at all. He seems

:48:21. > :48:25.to have been playing from hide every step of the way. Not until has there

:48:26. > :48:30.been a crisis has he produced his best tennis and he has gone with

:48:31. > :48:34.instinct. When he has played with instinct he has looked wonderful,

:48:35. > :48:43.like the Federer old. The bottom line is, he is serving for a place

:48:44. > :48:49.in the semifinal with Nadal, he will love that. He has given himself the

:48:50. > :48:54.opportunity as you say, he got to a horrendous start, he was down 5-1,

:48:55. > :49:00.was down a break in the second set, managed to squeak out the tie-break.

:49:01. > :49:03.3-0 down in the third set. Now he has given himself the opportunity

:49:04. > :49:05.but this thing is not over. He has got to go out there as he has done

:49:06. > :50:16.in this match, stay in the present. It is a funny thing with new tennis

:50:17. > :50:20.balls. If the server can get the first strike in with the serve, they

:50:21. > :51:32.can go through a bit quicker. If they don't do that, it comes

:51:33. > :51:53.having a quick look to text, and my word, that is the worst challenge of

:51:54. > :52:33.all time! To make grants to Federer's strike

:52:34. > :52:39.was good, but to produce something of it, magnificent. Are we going to

:52:40. > :53:09.a deciding set tie-breaker? Break point.

:53:10. > :53:19.Federer has not made a first serve to the juice box. Does he know one

:53:20. > :54:12.wide? He has that option. It is a go to

:54:13. > :54:21.and the crowd rise as Roger Federer produces something a little bit

:54:22. > :54:43.special, and you can see the emotion on his face.

:54:44. > :54:52.He is the oldest man in this eight-man field, he was playing the

:54:53. > :54:57.young guests today. -- the youngest today. Only once has Federer come to

:54:58. > :55:02.the season-ending championships and failed to make the semi-final, this

:55:03. > :55:21.was close. But he will get through. Juan Martin Del

:55:22. > :55:29.was close. But he will get through. recover, in the 22 hours or so that

:55:30. > :55:31.he has got, he could give Nadal and encounter tomorrow. I am so looking

:55:32. > :55:41.forward to that. How do you pick numbers out of a

:55:42. > :55:45.contest like that? The biggest numbers, two hours and 26. Will that

:55:46. > :56:02.stay in macroFederer's legs? SUE BARKER: what a match that was,

:56:03. > :56:06.it had everything. Federer will be delighted, he will go to sleep happy

:56:07. > :56:13.at wake up in the morning though he he has got to face Rafael Nadal, we

:56:14. > :56:30.will have coverage of that at 2pm on ABC to tomorrow.

:56:31. > :56:36.will have coverage of that at 2pm on a few fans hearts fluttering! A lot

:56:37. > :56:40.of ways to win a tennis match, this one, come from behind, how tough is

:56:41. > :56:49.it to climb back into a match like this? Pretty tough, especially

:56:50. > :56:53.against Del Potro. There was a lot of coming from behind, trying to get

:56:54. > :56:57.back into the match. It was amazing I was able to pull it off because he

:56:58. > :57:01.got a good start in each of the sets. I could never really play

:57:02. > :57:07.free-flowing tennis like I would have liked to if I was in the lead.

:57:08. > :57:11.I fought hard, maybe I got lucky at times but I gave it all my hard and

:57:12. > :57:19.it was great that I got to the finish line. I am very happy. You

:57:20. > :57:22.guys seem to have a rivalry going out. The last seven times, it has

:57:23. > :57:42.come down to a deciding set, Paris last week, that makes a

:57:43. > :57:47.difference. But one guy has got to win, there are no draws in tennis.

:57:48. > :57:52.That is the beauty of this sport. Always a winner. I thought he did

:57:53. > :57:54.very well this whole season and it was a pleasure play against him

:57:55. > :58:03.today, and unfortunately one guy had to win. When you are playing out

:58:04. > :58:08.there and there is so much going on, can you feel that support? And you

:58:09. > :58:16.feel this crowd that was behind you? Of course! Sure. I get asked very

:58:17. > :58:20.often these days what I think of the crowds around the world,

:58:21. > :58:30.particularly here in London. And it is always crazy, nice playing in

:58:31. > :58:32.front of you guys. So thank you. Well, back into the semifinals, you

:58:33. > :58:51.have got a Well, back into the semifinals, you

:58:52. > :58:56.don't even have a day off, I have got to back it up tomorrow, I am

:58:57. > :58:59.ready to go and I am looking forward to a great match with him. He is

:59:00. > :59:03.tough, as we know, he has had one of the great seasons we have seen in

:59:04. > :59:07.tennis and he has just received the world number one trophy again for

:59:08. > :59:10.the third time, so congratulations to him and I will try to make his

:59:11. > :59:16.life a little bit difficult tomorrow, see what happens. Roger

:59:17. > :59:20.Federer, congratulations. SUE BARKER: well done to Roger, he

:59:21. > :59:27.will be back tomorrow, Federer against Nadal. The rugby is coming

:59:28. > :59:28.up, we will leave you with Del Potro's music, no surrender.

:59:29. > :59:32.Goodbye.
