:00:31. > :00:36.Hello and welcome to the O2 in London. It seems fitting that

:00:37. > :00:40.walking along this corridor to enter the court for the ATP World Tour

:00:41. > :00:44.Final will be the two players who have dominated the tennis calendar

:00:45. > :00:47.this year. Can world number one Rafael Nadal complete one of the

:00:48. > :00:53.greatest comebacks from injury that sport has ever seen to see his first

:00:54. > :00:59.season entitled? Or can the world number two, Novak Djokovic, who is

:01:00. > :01:05.on a 21 match unbeaten run, power his way to victory? Two incredible

:01:06. > :01:10.rivals, two awe-inspiring athletes. Just one winner. Let battle

:01:11. > :01:17.commence! It is a very special event I've never had the chance to Win

:01:18. > :01:24.here. Whenever we play each other, there is a lot of fighting. Every

:01:25. > :01:31.match, we push each other to the limit. It is very physical and also

:01:32. > :01:35.very emotional. What a forehand Deadly accurate! That is the way.

:01:36. > :01:42.All the deadly muscles coming into play. How does he do that?! You are

:01:43. > :01:49.kidding! Forehand winner from Djokovic! A thing of beauty! Oh my

:01:50. > :01:55.word! Djokovic on the full stretch! He had no right to make that shot!

:01:56. > :02:03.What a strike! How about that?! What defence from Nadal! I want to crown

:02:04. > :02:11.this season in the best possible way and end it with the title. I want to

:02:12. > :02:15.do my best. SUE BARKER: What a match to end the

:02:16. > :02:17.tournament year. Nadal and Djokovic have met each other more than any

:02:18. > :02:23.other rivalry in tennis and it have met each other more than any

:02:24. > :02:28.their 39th meeting here. We know it is going to be brutal and intense

:02:29. > :02:31.their 39th meeting here. We know it and it should be very entertaining?

:02:32. > :02:35.Absolutely. It is the ultimate showdown as the final match of the

:02:36. > :02:42.year and they have been the dominant players. Do find it amazing. It is

:02:43. > :02:49.their 39th match. You consider Nadal is 27 and Djokovic is only 26! How

:02:50. > :02:55.many more times are they going to play each other? Because it is going

:02:56. > :03:00.to be an amazing match. Nadal has been on a 22 match winning streak.

:03:01. > :03:05.Djokovic's winning streak has happened since he lost a pretty

:03:06. > :03:09.brutal encounter at the U.S. Open to the very opponent he is playing here

:03:10. > :03:13.tonight. Since then, he has lost the number one ranking to him. He just

:03:14. > :03:17.lost the grand slam but he just hangs about the whole time,

:03:18. > :03:23.Djokovic. Every time he takes a body blow, you comes back. Nadal has

:03:24. > :03:26.taken some of the most painful beatings as well and he keeps coming

:03:27. > :03:32.back for more. One day we will love Djokovic and the crowd well as much

:03:33. > :03:37.as they love Nadal. There is age of the piece of him that says, why

:03:38. > :03:46.don't you love me so much? And he really takes the crowd on here. --

:03:47. > :03:53.there is a little piece. Hugely respected by crowds, but, as Andrew

:03:54. > :03:57.says, not the love. I think he does but it is very difficult when you

:03:58. > :04:02.compare anybody with Federer or Nadal in terms of their records

:04:03. > :04:06.performances and popularity. They are two of the greats of all time

:04:07. > :04:16.and Djokovic is certainly moving in the right direction. Item things --

:04:17. > :04:20.I do not think he likes it when he feels that on court and I do think

:04:21. > :04:24.Nadal will have the majority of support, but Djokovic has a great

:04:25. > :04:26.chance of coming out on top. Since the US Open, he has been so

:04:27. > :04:38.resilient, oz and won tournament the US Open, he has been so

:04:39. > :04:45.after tournament. -- bounced back. It would be a great way to finish

:04:46. > :04:49.the year for him but going on this winning run, it will be a nice way

:04:50. > :04:54.for Djokovic to finish as well. As soon see lost the number one spot,

:04:55. > :04:58.the first thing that happened was, he beat Nadal! It is absolutely

:04:59. > :05:04.classic! He will not be knocked out, Djokovic. He just will not be!

:05:05. > :05:09.If anybody can do it, though, it is Nadal. The force you feel even when

:05:10. > :05:13.he is just practising, Nadal, it is quite something to be around. But

:05:14. > :05:22.when Djokovic was practising earlier today... That was something. Nadal

:05:23. > :05:34.was on court yesterday and so was Djokovic. But Nadal against Federer,

:05:35. > :05:39.just too many errors from Roger He has been fighting his form but

:05:40. > :05:44.against Rafa, the way he was playing, just to many unforced

:05:45. > :05:48.errors. He did start the match better and went with serve but Rafa

:05:49. > :05:52.found a way to get the first set under his belt and then once he had

:05:53. > :05:59.done that, Federer couldn't quite respond and it was a great win for

:06:00. > :06:16.Rafa. Certainly not the best match for Roger to play. Super, intense

:06:17. > :06:22.match at the beginning. This is what Roger had to say after the match.

:06:23. > :06:27.For me, it is simple. This is what used to do as the little boy. So

:06:28. > :06:36.that is always there in your DNA. -- so something. It is like one of

:06:37. > :06:40.those moments where you are just happy out on the court, happy

:06:41. > :06:44.improving, happy trying to change things, adjust things. Clearly today

:06:45. > :06:51.is different from when I was 12 years old. I was trying to... I

:06:52. > :06:54.don't want to say fun. Why was trying to make a breakthrough to

:06:55. > :07:02.some certain level back then as well but it is just something ie enjoy

:07:03. > :07:08.doing. -- I was trying. But when it is something you love, why stop so

:07:09. > :07:13.early? Why walk away from it? I have other things to do in my life other

:07:14. > :07:17.than play tennis but because I can choose, I'd still picked to play and

:07:18. > :07:22.as long as they have that choice, I will keep on playing. You are a long

:07:23. > :07:30.time retired and you don't want to stop too early. I've lost count of

:07:31. > :07:35.how money times he has been asked about retiring. But if you are a

:07:36. > :07:40.journalist, you have to ask that question - how long can you go on? I

:07:41. > :07:44.have adored watching Roger Federer play and I will continue to adore

:07:45. > :07:48.watching him just striking the ball and moving around the court. It is

:07:49. > :07:53.fantastic. My only wish I could have played and beaten him! How nice that

:07:54. > :07:56.would have been! Because I still think the purity of the ball strike,

:07:57. > :08:01.the manner in which she plays the game, I don't think we will ever see

:08:02. > :08:08.anything is beautiful again. But if you are a journo, you have to ask

:08:09. > :08:12.the question, how are -- how long are you going to go on? But he had

:08:13. > :08:16.the sort of year where he was never going to be able to produce his best

:08:17. > :08:20.at the end because he struggled with his training and injury and mentally

:08:21. > :08:24.that gets to you a bit. It is about time he had a bit of adversity in

:08:25. > :08:31.that department. He has had a blemish free run in that way, injury

:08:32. > :08:35.wise. Let him play for ever and ever if he wants to, though! The

:08:36. > :08:37.journalists are quite right to ask the question but the reality is

:08:38. > :08:41.Roger doesn't know when he will the question but the reality is

:08:42. > :08:48.when you are starting at the beginning of your career, it is all

:08:49. > :08:51.when you are starting at the he will finish. When it comes to

:08:52. > :08:58.stopping, when is the right time to stop? How do you stop? I think this

:08:59. > :09:02.2014 year is going to be a big one for lots of reasons for Federer

:09:03. > :09:08.because it has been a difficult season, 2013. He has lost matches he

:09:09. > :09:12.never even dreamt of losing before. And his pride is a bit dented, I

:09:13. > :09:16.think. He still believes he can compete at the highest level and I

:09:17. > :09:20.think it will be a great challenge for him. And this is where this

:09:21. > :09:25.off-season will be vital for him. He really needs to go away and hit that

:09:26. > :09:31.platform, hit the ground running. Get off to a good start to the year

:09:32. > :09:35.to get some momentum. I think 2 14 will be key and if you can stay

:09:36. > :09:39.injury free and get to the latter stages of tournaments, you know you

:09:40. > :09:46.want to be out there in the grand slam finals, the big finals. He

:09:47. > :09:54.won't be happy being ranked no. At there are only Djokovic, Nadal and

:09:55. > :09:57.Murray who are better than him. -- at there are. He still consider him

:09:58. > :10:03.a better player than Juan Martin Del Potro. This is something he wouldn't

:10:04. > :10:08.have expected four, five weeks ago, so he has played himself into some

:10:09. > :10:12.pretty decent form. I hope he doesn't make the mistake Stefan

:10:13. > :10:17.Edberg made when he retired. He announced it and he said, at the end

:10:18. > :10:21.of this year, I am going to retire, and everywhere he went, there were

:10:22. > :10:25.garlands and flowers. It will probably drawn on him when he

:10:26. > :10:32.can't... When he feels like he can't win matches, it will do well on him

:10:33. > :10:39.and he will go, hang. SUE BARKER: I played one match. I

:10:40. > :10:45.didn't even know why was going to retire. Injury. The decision was

:10:46. > :10:50.made for me, which was much, much easier. Mine was a

:10:51. > :10:55.made for me, which was much, much was in America at the US Open. I was

:10:56. > :11:01.playing against John Isner. And I thought, I am not enjoying this I

:11:02. > :11:08.don't think, any more. And he said, if you're not enjoying it, don't

:11:09. > :11:14.play any more. If I knew it was going to be this good, I would have

:11:15. > :11:18.stopped ten years ago! My dear wife Sophia was expecting and I lost in

:11:19. > :11:22.the first round of a challenger and then Sky of me a job to come and

:11:23. > :11:29.work alongside you. I would have bitten their arm off! You played for

:11:30. > :11:35.another two years! Where is my entry form for the next tournament! Roger

:11:36. > :11:39.is not going to retire any time soon and he will give it his all in

:11:40. > :11:48.2014, but now the battle at the top is very much about Novak and Rafa.

:11:49. > :12:01.They have been the year-end world number ones for the last four years.

:12:02. > :12:07.This is why it sticks in the memory. There was a real sense that

:12:08. > :12:13.something had changed when Djokovic overtook Nadal. But then to regain

:12:14. > :12:17.it, having not even played in Australia, Nadal, this year, that is

:12:18. > :12:21.why he reacted the way he did at the end of the second group match win. I

:12:22. > :12:25.mean, to get to world number 1. . You've got to love the game.

:12:26. > :12:31.Hopefully he has another five, six years. He certainly got through the

:12:32. > :12:38.indoor season that often causes him a bit of trouble. Yes. These courts

:12:39. > :12:42.are pretty similar to a hard court and before he was always playing

:12:43. > :12:45.with the taping on his knee, sometimes on both, and we hadn't

:12:46. > :12:49.seen that, so fingers crossed it is a good sign. Because it was 12

:12:50. > :12:53.months ago we were sitting here and there was so much speculation about

:12:54. > :12:55.whether he would return to the game and if he

:12:56. > :12:59.whether he would return to the game could reach the heights

:13:00. > :13:02.whether he would return to the game first round at Wimbledon and still

:13:03. > :13:05.finish number one. When you think Djokovic made finals in both of

:13:06. > :13:11.those slams, it is almost as though he had a head start but Rafa has

:13:12. > :13:15.reeled him in! Fingers crossed they both stay healthy because it is such

:13:16. > :13:21.a great rivalry. Murray needs to get back in the mix after his back

:13:22. > :13:24.operation. And again need them. Because Federer isn't going to be

:13:25. > :13:32.around forever. We hope he plays as long as possible, but with those

:13:33. > :13:38.3... When you have something taken away from you, you realise how much

:13:39. > :13:43.you love it. We thought he was gone completely so it will be interesting

:13:44. > :13:46.to see how Murray comes back as well off this back operation. Because it

:13:47. > :13:52.does your head in when you have an operation. I mean, operations, they

:13:53. > :13:57.are always the last resort, aren't they? Gasquet. It seems like the

:13:58. > :14:04.surgery went very well and his rehab has been meticulous. -- yeah. He

:14:05. > :14:11.started hitting very gently and he is off to Miami to get back up

:14:12. > :14:15.again. With the time frame, he's got a good amount of time. I would have

:14:16. > :14:19.been much more concerned if it had been early December and he was just

:14:20. > :14:23.getting back on the court because the tendency could have been to rush

:14:24. > :14:25.things forward and see if he could be ready for Australia, because that

:14:26. > :14:30.is definitely the predicament for him. He wants to make sure he has

:14:31. > :14:37.played plenty of matches before the Open in Australia. You don't want to

:14:38. > :14:41.be coming back injury playing five set matches. And that is what

:14:42. > :14:46.Djokovic did so well this year. He decided he wouldn't quite be ready

:14:47. > :14:55.Australia this year. Then the rest is history. The doubles has overrun

:14:56. > :14:57.a little bit, which means the singles final will be a bit later

:14:58. > :15:03.than anticipated but we will keep singles final will be a bit later

:15:04. > :15:09.finalists. And if you want to get in touch, you can. You can send us a

:15:10. > :15:16.tweet or comment on our Facebook page. Tim and Andy will be happy to

:15:17. > :15:21.answer any of your questions. I m happy to put them to him! Well, we

:15:22. > :15:26.have seen how Rafa got through beating Federer. Last night, Novak

:15:27. > :15:31.Djokovic was on court and equally impressive up against Amber Brinker.

:15:32. > :15:38.This is just one of the very special points, not match point. An ordinary

:15:39. > :15:47.point! This was break point! No hold point for the -- for Wawrinka

:15:48. > :15:52.to hold the break. It is going to be a big move he will have to make

:15:53. > :15:57.tonight against Nadal. Most people, when they've hit a shot like that to

:15:58. > :16:04.an opponent, you think that they might get to it but they will put up

:16:05. > :16:08.a defensive lob. Djokovic still has the flexibility, the strength and

:16:09. > :16:13.the control to get across there And to flick the forehand crosscourt

:16:14. > :16:20.winner. He was doing such a lot of practice defending the forehand side

:16:21. > :16:25.impropriety and for the Madonna should tonight. Taking it early

:16:26. > :16:32.taking it early, taking it early and then trenching that forehand. Even

:16:33. > :16:40.in that match, he won it 6-3, 6 3, but his winner didn't come until the

:16:41. > :16:43.last set. But it is more than that. If somebody was just getting the

:16:44. > :16:49.ball back, they would not be doing much with their shots, but he was

:16:50. > :16:52.actually down a break to-1 in the first set against Wawrinka but then

:16:53. > :17:00.he just goes through the gears. -- 2-1. He has had a fantastic year and

:17:01. > :17:06.prayed brilliantly, Wawrinka, to get through to the semifinals, but

:17:07. > :17:09.prayed brilliantly, Wawrinka, to get keep coming back, you hit harder and

:17:10. > :17:13.harder and go lower over the net and then you start missing them. It is

:17:14. > :17:19.so hard to play against. And that is where rising Rafa does have a chance

:17:20. > :17:23.because he can still play massively aggressively plays with so much

:17:24. > :17:28.spin. I'm still going to take Djokovic. And Djokovic moves so well

:17:29. > :17:35.and seems to bend in races that other human beings don't bend! It

:17:36. > :17:43.shouldn't be allowed! Much of it is just sheer hard work. I asked a

:17:44. > :17:48.while back, how do you get these levels of performance out of

:17:49. > :17:52.Djokovic? What is the secret? And the coach said, work. And it is

:17:53. > :17:57.quite a talent, actually, to be able to work at the level he does and

:17:58. > :18:02.others do as well. It doesn't come to everybody easily. You have to

:18:03. > :18:07.train it over years and since the age of 13, 14, when he went to the

:18:08. > :18:12.Academy in Munich, he left home and sacrificed right from the word go.

:18:13. > :18:19.And it has paid off. It is that work ethic and practice on the match

:18:20. > :18:25.court. It's so consistent. When you talk about the winning streak he has

:18:26. > :18:29.been on since the US Open. No injuries, no bad days mentally or

:18:30. > :18:35.technically. And he has been playing the best players in the world. A

:18:36. > :18:41.couple of masters and now he has won his first four matches here. It is

:18:42. > :18:44.sometimes why I'd prefer the big tournaments to go and watch them

:18:45. > :18:49.practice, because it is showing you what they do. People think they

:18:50. > :18:53.somehow stroll out there and do it. In all of the top sports. Whoever

:18:54. > :18:58.makes it look easy is the one who has spent an extra few hours on the

:18:59. > :19:02.practice court. And it is also as different watching them practice

:19:03. > :19:08.from the other guys in their results as watching them on a match court. I

:19:09. > :19:08.urge anybody to get down to Wimbledon and spectate some

:19:09. > :19:15.practice. That is Wimbledon and spectate some

:19:16. > :19:20.know Djokovic will last physically Wimbledon and spectate some

:19:21. > :19:24.as long as the match will be. It is the end of a very, very long season.

:19:25. > :19:30.But it is like a piece of cake to him! When they played the Australian

:19:31. > :19:33.Open final a few years ago. It is incredible, their levels of

:19:34. > :19:37.endurance and how quick they are, but they will both be looking

:19:38. > :19:42.forward to the end of the season, I think. Djokovic has the Davis Cup to

:19:43. > :19:47.come but this is Rafa's last match of the year and he will enjoy a well

:19:48. > :19:53.earned break. Even the squash players, even the top of that game,

:19:54. > :19:59.how is squash not in the Olympics?! Lost the vote! Even those guys look

:20:00. > :20:03.at the tennis players and go, wow. And that is something because the

:20:04. > :20:07.tennis players used to look at the squash guys and go, have you got

:20:08. > :20:22.three longs in there? And Novak seems to have batteries wear, one

:20:23. > :20:27.night sleep, and he is back. And even if you break it up, you know he

:20:28. > :20:32.will come back at you. They just don't know when they are beaten

:20:33. > :20:36.both of them. They play with that incredible intensity and relentless

:20:37. > :20:44.optimism that they can turn things around if they are in a bad

:20:45. > :20:53.position. And to beat them off, you have to play a tactically perfect

:20:54. > :20:58.match. Wimbledon. We don't need to have an excuse to look at the last

:20:59. > :21:00.point that! Let's enjoy this again. This is when Andy made history

:21:01. > :21:35.against Djokovic this summer. Andy Murray is the Wimbledon

:21:36. > :21:41.champion! SUE BARKER: He did not know where he

:21:42. > :21:45.was or what he had done. He was even shouting at the wrong box at the end

:21:46. > :21:49.of that! He was! I think he was looking up above our commentary box

:21:50. > :21:54.and I have a very good picture on my phone because I was taking

:21:55. > :21:58.pictures, that moment, and he didn't have any idea! You can see his

:21:59. > :22:09.reaction and we have never really seen that before. It is clearly a

:22:10. > :22:12.piece of sporting history. We probably got it utterly wrong! We

:22:13. > :22:16.should sit down and watch the match! You wouldn't want to get the match

:22:17. > :22:21.point wrong, would you? I looked to my left and he had his camera out.

:22:22. > :22:24.He had lost it completely! I have got a great picture of you in the

:22:25. > :22:29.changing room afterwards with the trophy.

:22:30. > :22:37.But you are for people, Tim, no of the pressure put on the likes of

:22:38. > :22:42.yourself and Andy in the build-up. It is great, let's not get away from

:22:43. > :22:45.that. For both of us it has been our home tournament and we have grown up

:22:46. > :22:52.watching it for so many years. I loved it. I loved the whole grass

:22:53. > :22:55.court season. Hearing some of the things from what Andy said in his

:22:56. > :23:01.book, you know, the mouth ulcers, the stress that went with it. I d

:23:02. > :23:07.probably enjoyed it a bit more than he did but what he achieved this

:23:08. > :23:11.year was just incredible and what he had achieved in the 18 months prior

:23:12. > :23:16.to that, going back to the Olympic Games, the US Open, which was such a

:23:17. > :23:20.good foundation platform. And what a great match. We reflected how

:23:21. > :23:28.incredibly hot it was that date playing three hours and 15 minutes.

:23:29. > :23:35.And 12 minutes of hell in that last game! If Djokovic had won that

:23:36. > :23:41.game. Mac I still think Andy would have come out with that. There was a

:23:42. > :23:46.sense that it was his time. But you felt, you know what, he deserved

:23:47. > :23:50.that. He deserved to win Wimbledon. And right from the word go at

:23:51. > :23:55.Queen's Club, all work, all the effort, sacrifice from the age of

:23:56. > :24:00.15, the commitment it takes. It is a risk to give up and education, leave

:24:01. > :24:09.home. It is absolutely hats off And now he is commenting on the issue of

:24:10. > :24:13.the drugs and Viktor Troicki. I hope he comes back strongly from this

:24:14. > :24:18.surgery. I can't wait for it. Because he nips at the heels of

:24:19. > :24:22.Djokovic and Nadal and beats them. It is amazing he is even in the game

:24:23. > :24:30.with these guys! He is right out there! He may yet end the year

:24:31. > :24:36.number one himself. An eyesore the training -- and I saw when I was

:24:37. > :24:40.travelling with him the training of the time he puts in. It is

:24:41. > :24:47.incredible. And there have been so many hurdles in front of him through

:24:48. > :24:51.stages of his career. At 17, 18 people were saying he didn't have

:24:52. > :24:55.the physique, he didn't have the endurance, he wasn't tough enough.

:24:56. > :24:59.And now he is as good an athlete has anyone. It is important they make

:25:00. > :25:06.sure he gets this rehab right so he can play 100% but, again, he has got

:25:07. > :25:12.another four, five, six years at the top of the game. And not always easy

:25:13. > :25:17.to get everything perfect, and he has led that as well. It is not easy

:25:18. > :25:21.to say goodbye to some people. Perhaps out of personal loyalty a

:25:22. > :25:24.weaker character would have held onto somebody but he has done what

:25:25. > :25:28.is right for him as a high-performance athlete. And

:25:29. > :25:34.is right for him as a is not easy either. Lendl name was

:25:35. > :25:41.is right for him as a massive appointment. -- Ivan Lendl.

:25:42. > :25:46.Yes, to finally get over that hurdle at the US Open was another good

:25:47. > :25:54.platform for him at Wimbledon. The best shot the whole summer was at

:25:55. > :25:58.Queen's Club! 102 mile an hour beforehand and he meant it! I

:25:59. > :26:04.swear, that was the most enjoyable shot he hit all summer! And then the

:26:05. > :26:10.match against Verdasco. He is actually behind us on the doubles

:26:11. > :26:15.court with his partner David Marrero. They are up against the

:26:16. > :26:21.Bryan brothers, who have absolutely dominated. They are leading 9-7 The

:26:22. > :26:28.Bryan brothers have just done so much, haven't they? Yes. The perfect

:26:29. > :26:38.year. They won the first three grand slams. The first grand slam in

:26:39. > :26:49.doubles in the open-air rough. - in the Open era. And look at these

:26:50. > :26:55.guys! These guys have played tremendous tennis. They really have!

:26:56. > :26:59.He has got a 30th birthday coming up on Friday and it will be a massive

:27:00. > :27:08.one in Madrid for him! Is it going to be a Spain double? There you go!

:27:09. > :27:15.But also Verdasco at Wimbledon, that match, Andy looked out of it in that

:27:16. > :27:20.quarterfinal. In more ways than one! Both in the school line and in the

:27:21. > :27:28.way he was playing. But that was an unbelievable effort. -- scoreline.

:27:29. > :27:31.If the duster could change anything about his ear, and he certainly

:27:32. > :27:41.wouldn't change any of this, he would problem try to change the way

:27:42. > :27:47.he played that third set. -- if Verdasco could change anything about

:27:48. > :27:51.his year. Speaking of Andy, we can hear from him now, because earlier

:27:52. > :27:57.in the week, you spoke to Sara Orchard.

:27:58. > :28:02.I had been playing in quite a lot of pain for 18, 19 months. So I wanted

:28:03. > :28:06.that to stop. And I am looking forward to getting back to the court

:28:07. > :28:10.being pain-free again, because you forget what that is like when you

:28:11. > :28:15.are playing with it for a long time, so I am hoping the surgery will have

:28:16. > :28:22.stop that and so I can get back to being healthy as soon as possible.

:28:23. > :28:27.I'm looking forward to the next few years. Hopefully I'll have some time

:28:28. > :28:32.before my first tournament and I won't need to rush it. It will be

:28:33. > :28:36.interesting to see how badly I am playing, really! Because I will have

:28:37. > :28:42.lost some of the skill and will need to train myself back up a bit. Have

:28:43. > :28:46.you spoken to any of the big names about how you deal with that period

:28:47. > :28:51.out and stay in the loop with what is going on in tennis? But also

:28:52. > :28:55.mentally, coming back, how you will approach that? I have spoken to my

:28:56. > :29:01.coach about it and chatted with my team. I have spoken to Rafa a bit. I

:29:02. > :29:06.have exchanged quite a few messages with him over the last few weeks.

:29:07. > :29:11.But, yes, with things like this you obviously want to keep the rhythm

:29:12. > :29:14.and keep within the team you are working with. You don't want

:29:15. > :29:17.everybody to know which things are bothering you on the court because

:29:18. > :29:22.if make it to Australia, they will know which things are hurting and

:29:23. > :29:28.which things don't. But quite a lot of messages from the players wishing

:29:29. > :29:32.me well, from the guys, hoping I can come back soon. Tough coming back

:29:33. > :29:36.from an operation and I'll was wonder whether you trust that part

:29:37. > :29:44.of the body again when you have had an operation? -- I always wonder? It

:29:45. > :29:45.is almost like the pain is ingrained in your mind and when

:29:46. > :29:50.is almost like the pain is ingrained from it, you still expect to feel

:29:51. > :29:55.the pain. It is really important that when he gets onto court, he is

:29:56. > :30:01.able to put in the hours to make sure it is a thing of the past. I am

:30:02. > :30:05.sure he will. He is meticulous with his preparation. In Miami, he has a

:30:06. > :30:14.training block where Ivan Lendl will not be giving him much sympathy

:30:15. > :30:20.Hopefully he will be 100% mentally and physically so he can concentrate

:30:21. > :30:23.on his matches. It is picking the right time to come back. The

:30:24. > :30:32.Australian Open in the searing heat... He said he will not play

:30:33. > :30:36.unless he feels like he can win Just get back out there and start

:30:37. > :30:41.getting the matches in. I am not sure whether he needed the operation

:30:42. > :30:45.or just wanted to get rid of the pain. I heard that clinically it was

:30:46. > :30:51.not absolutely necessary. He has made the decision that he wants to

:30:52. > :30:54.get rid of that and then move on. It will probably be history in six

:30:55. > :31:01.months when he starts putting himself back into contention again.

:31:02. > :31:07.I must say that his complexion looks fantastic now he has not been

:31:08. > :31:13.stressed out. He looked well and healthy. A bit of time in the sun.

:31:14. > :31:17.He looked nice and relaxed and why not when you have one in Boldon the

:31:18. > :31:26.US Open and Olympic gold? We wish him well -- when you have won

:31:27. > :31:31.Wimbledon. Tim Henman has played in a few of these but this is Novak

:31:32. > :31:33.Djokovic coming in as the defending champion. Roger Federer has been

:31:34. > :31:53.dominant with six wins. Lleyton Hewitt in Sydney winning

:31:54. > :31:56.2001 and 2002, ended each of those years as world number one.

:31:57. > :32:06.2001 and 2002, ended each of those years as world number Pete

:32:07. > :32:16.Sampras... Boris Becker won it three times. Boris was a monster to play

:32:17. > :32:25.against. Indoors. Tim, which year were you in? Are qualified in 1 98

:32:26. > :32:33.and 2004 in Houston -- are qualified. The last left-handed

:32:34. > :32:43.player to win, John McEnroe, 29 years since a left-handed player

:32:44. > :32:49.won. Maybe that is an omen. Changing tack, the world of tennis suffered a

:32:50. > :32:55.sad loss when Brad Barritt lost his battle with motor neurone disease.

:32:56. > :32:59.He died in May. He was a very good friend of all of us in the studio

:33:00. > :33:03.and all of the players. When the news was announced, the players paid

:33:04. > :33:23.tribute in a moving one-minute silence in Madrid.

:33:24. > :33:33.Very sad for all of the players and all of the people who know him. He

:33:34. > :33:42.was a great person. He had big passion for tennis and that is the

:33:43. > :33:49.memory we can keep from him. His passion for what he was doing and

:33:50. > :33:54.his personality. He was a person who everybody loved.

:33:55. > :34:00.his personality. He was a person who for not just asked tennis players

:34:01. > :34:05.but the tennis world -- not just us tennis players. He was a brave man

:34:06. > :34:09.and had the courage to stand up and try to change some things in our

:34:10. > :34:14.sport for the better. We remember him as a very calm, very composed,

:34:15. > :34:19.intelligent man who loved the sport with all of his heart. While he was

:34:20. > :34:25.playing, coaching and then as a president of ATP. It happened very

:34:26. > :34:33.quickly. It is hard to die just all of that. What else can you say but

:34:34. > :34:39.thank you to everything he has given to the tour and the players? As the

:34:40. > :34:42.president at the end and tournament director of the world tour finals,

:34:43. > :34:48.he has done so much for the game. We can only thank him. The players got

:34:49. > :35:01.on well with him. We spent a lot of time with him. He was an extremely

:35:02. > :35:08.nice person. So sad for the whole of the tour to have to see that. But

:35:09. > :35:18.hopefully he is in a better place now. Such a popular player on the

:35:19. > :35:23.tour and as part of the ATP. He will be much missed. Here at the

:35:24. > :35:29.tournament, a tournament that he so loved, they have donated all of the

:35:30. > :35:36.mascots that walk the players onto the court. And the trophy this year

:35:37. > :35:42.will be named the Brad Drewett trophy from now on. Such a nice guy.

:35:43. > :35:46.Tennis was everything to him. He loved it as a player and being a

:35:47. > :35:51.part of ATP. You are right. He had been involved in tennis at every

:35:52. > :35:54.level. He was an outstanding junior, moved into the professional game and

:35:55. > :35:58.was an moved into the professional game and

:35:59. > :36:04.with him on the tour and during the Grand

:36:05. > :36:07.with him on the tour and during the negotiations between the tour and

:36:08. > :36:11.Wimbledon, for example, with the prize money issues. I was in

:36:12. > :36:16.Shanghai with him. He was so passionate about the game. He wanted

:36:17. > :36:20.to give back and he definitely was in a very important stage when the

:36:21. > :36:25.negotiations took place. You saw the reaction of all of the players, not

:36:26. > :36:31.only in Madrid, but in tournaments around the world, he will be sadly

:36:32. > :36:36.missed. Our thoughts are with his family. It is lovely that the ATP is

:36:37. > :36:43.going to remember him in such a way. You will see the little ovals

:36:44. > :36:49.that people have to honour him. His legacy, motor neurone disease was

:36:50. > :36:52.mercifully quick with him. But if there is a legacy there, find out

:36:53. > :36:57.more about motor neurone disease because it is difficult to diagnose

:36:58. > :37:02.in the early stages. But there are drugs that can make a huge

:37:03. > :37:05.difference. I was talking to some motor neurone Association people

:37:06. > :37:09.here this week as guests of Barclays and it was very interesting. I lost

:37:10. > :37:14.to him at Wimbledon in the doubles once. Even when he beat you, it was

:37:15. > :37:22.impossible to dislike him. Always smiling. Condolences of course to

:37:23. > :37:28.the family. Sorely missed. He loved this tournament and he would have

:37:29. > :37:34.loved this final. This is their 39th meeting. It is frightening they

:37:35. > :37:37.have been playing so much. Imagine playing Rafa or Novak Djokovic 9

:37:38. > :37:53.times? This is truly impressive. 26 of the

:37:54. > :37:59.big ones for Nadal. From 2011 through to the Australian Open in

:38:00. > :38:03.2012, Novak Djokovic 17 in a row. That was big. It looked like Novak

:38:04. > :38:08.Djokovic completely That was big. It looked like Novak

:38:09. > :38:13.time. That is when I think Nadal worked on the forehand down the line

:38:14. > :38:18.and I think him and his uncle Toni Nadal fort, how will we get through

:38:19. > :38:21.the Novak Djokovic defence? They played six grand slam finals in

:38:22. > :38:26.total looking at the graphic and they are three all in that. 201 ,

:38:27. > :38:33.the US Open, that victory was crucial. Most people in the game

:38:34. > :38:36.would be happy to have the person who has won the most slams in the

:38:37. > :38:42.year being the year-end number one. The French Open semifinal, that was

:38:43. > :38:50.one of the matches of all time. That was extraordinary. 9-7 in the fifth.

:38:51. > :38:54.Novak Djokovic still has not won the French Open because Nadal is there

:38:55. > :39:01.the whole time. They have met each other fried times. It is going to go

:39:02. > :39:03.the distance -- they have met each other five times.

:39:04. > :39:07.the distance -- they have met each other In the context of the game

:39:08. > :39:11.when you talk about the great rivalries, whether going back to

:39:12. > :39:14.Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl and Andre Agassi and Pete

:39:15. > :39:19.Sampras, it is amazing that they are so Young and this is already one of

:39:20. > :39:29.the rivalries where they have played the most. It is going to be

:39:30. > :39:40.interesting. Nadal never loses in Monte Carlo. Della McRae he won

:39:41. > :39:46.eight in a row -- the game plan he employed was magnificent. He has got

:39:47. > :39:53.the game to beat Nadal. Especially on an indoor court. If you are a

:39:54. > :40:01.right-hander against Rafa is when he hits the ball across court. Novak

:40:02. > :40:06.Djokovic has the movement to get there. He nullifies some of Nadal's

:40:07. > :40:10.strength. I think their most memorable match

:40:11. > :40:16.strength. I think their most effort. It went on for about three

:40:17. > :40:22.days. Check out the shirt ripped at the end of it! I requested that He

:40:23. > :40:29.looked down and out. They both looked down and out. They were

:40:30. > :40:33.running on fumes at the end. It was Novak Djokovic that played Murray in

:40:34. > :40:40.the semifinals and that went on foot five hours. To come back 36 hours

:40:41. > :40:48.later and beat Nadal -- but went on for five hours. Superhuman. Is that

:40:49. > :41:01.like you looking in the mirror in the morning? ! Fitness wise, they

:41:02. > :41:05.have taken it to a new level. We were saying the other day, after

:41:06. > :41:15.four hours in a match, you start panicking. Now it is six hours. Now

:41:16. > :41:18.he does 12 hours over two matches over three days. Unbelievable. That

:41:19. > :41:22.tournament was incredible. They came back from the rest over Christmas

:41:23. > :41:27.and New Year, I say rest, they do training blocks, they come out hot

:41:28. > :41:33.at the Australian Open. Novak Djokovic wins at every year. He has

:41:34. > :41:38.such an amazing record. So does Andy Murray. It is a lot to do with the

:41:39. > :41:42.training block. They put in so many hard yards, on the track and in the

:41:43. > :41:49.gym and on the practice court. That is where I think for all of them it

:41:50. > :41:53.is important that we... We touched on it earlier on, it Roger Federer

:41:54. > :41:59.has talked about how he has missed quite a lot of practice with the

:42:00. > :42:03.back issues. He needs to get a good three or four week stint with no

:42:04. > :42:09.interruptions and build confidence back into his game. Then he can go

:42:10. > :42:14.to Australia and stamp his authority again. It has changed tennis because

:42:15. > :42:19.you have to be that strong to get into the world's top five now. The

:42:20. > :42:23.other players have had to follow. The weight room used to be

:42:24. > :42:27.optional. It is not optional anymore. Looking at someone like, I

:42:28. > :42:33.was going to say Grigor Dimitrov, but not him, the world junior

:42:34. > :42:37.champion is a little guy. He has been practising here with Nadal and

:42:38. > :42:41.Federer. What you would say straightaway to him is, don't worry

:42:42. > :42:48.about playing challenges and trying to get onto tall level events, go

:42:49. > :42:57.and train. That is how the game has changed. You we think that is why

:42:58. > :43:02.the average age of the top players is going up. One of the reasons

:43:03. > :43:06.They are learning how to manage their game, for sure, but you are in

:43:07. > :43:12.your physical peak if you have done the training early bust up 27 to 30

:43:13. > :43:20.is when you should be hitting it. -- done the training early. Brutal

:43:21. > :43:23.training session for Andy Murray in December. He did about an hour in

:43:24. > :43:28.the gym, went out and played Feliciano Lopez for two hours. He

:43:29. > :43:34.then did training on the court with body weight suit on. Then he did an

:43:35. > :43:40.hour of Pilates with a Russian ballerina. He was being pushed and

:43:41. > :43:45.pulled in all sorts of directions. And you did it with him and then you

:43:46. > :43:50.went for a ten hour run! I was getting tired watching. Then he went

:43:51. > :43:55.off for more stretching. It is a full-time job. You cannot just play

:43:56. > :44:01.for couple of hours and have a cup of tea. It is attention to detail.

:44:02. > :44:08.When you look at the nutrition, dehydration, everything that goes

:44:09. > :44:11.into it, it is such small margins and when the competition is as tough

:44:12. > :44:16.as this, you have got to make sure you maximise everything you have

:44:17. > :44:19.got. Andy Murray has done that so well. Two outstanding athletes in

:44:20. > :44:20.action here this well. Two outstanding athletes in

:44:21. > :44:23.Djokovic is the world number two. well. Two outstanding athletes in

:44:24. > :44:30.Let us hear from him. well. Two outstanding athletes in

:44:31. > :44:33.2013 season, it has been successful for me. Definitely the last two

:44:34. > :44:39.months have been the best in the whole season. It came at the right

:44:40. > :44:44.time. I want to finish this year in the style as best as possible. I am

:44:45. > :44:49.trying to take the necessary confidence and use it tomorrow

:44:50. > :44:55.against Rafa. There is no secret between Rafa. We have played so many

:44:56. > :45:03.times. The later stages of any big event, really, the last big match we

:45:04. > :45:08.played in the US Open final, he won. I won in the finals of Beijing.

:45:09. > :45:14.Every match we push each other to the limit. We take it the distance.

:45:15. > :45:18.A lot of long rallies. Very physical and also very emotional. A lot of

:45:19. > :45:24.tension. It is part of the big rivalry we have. He has tried to

:45:25. > :45:28.evolve this game -- his game this year, partly in response to the

:45:29. > :45:32.success you had against him in 011. Have you had to change your game to

:45:33. > :45:37.try and counteract the improvements he has made? That is the beauty of

:45:38. > :45:43.the rivalry. We make each other improved. I would agree with that

:45:44. > :45:47.fact. He has improved this year immensely, especially on the hard

:45:48. > :45:51.court surface, the one that was his least preferred and least

:45:52. > :45:54.successful. He is more aggressive and using his serve more efficiently

:45:55. > :46:00.and knows how to move much better than he used to. Of course, it made

:46:01. > :46:05.me question myself, what I need to do, in order to have the right

:46:06. > :46:09.response, especially at the US Open final. I played very well against

:46:10. > :46:12.him in the Beijing final. I won in straight sets and had confidence

:46:13. > :46:19.from that when. Hopefully, I can carry that on in this final. Not

:46:20. > :46:23.only a big title on the line, but also a psychological advantage for

:46:24. > :46:26.next year. He is finishing also a psychological advantage for

:46:27. > :46:26.as world number one. For also a psychological advantage for

:46:27. > :46:34.this very important to show also a psychological advantage for

:46:35. > :46:37.is boss? I would not use those particular words but of course

:46:38. > :46:43.whenever we play each other it is... We are not playing for the

:46:44. > :46:49.rankings now, he has finished at number one of the world, deservedly

:46:50. > :46:54.of course with the results he had this season. But, as I said, we have

:46:55. > :46:59.played 70 times against each other, when you are playing a top rival,

:47:00. > :47:04.you always want to win -- played so many times. They will be on court in

:47:05. > :47:11.a moment. Does that make Novak Djokovic the favourite, indoors

:47:12. > :47:15.hard surface? I have been picking him for three weeks. But there is a

:47:16. > :47:23.box over here and I was chatting to them and they think Nadal is going

:47:24. > :47:27.to win having seen his spirit. I think Novak Djokovic hits the ball

:47:28. > :47:33.through the court quick enough to make Nadal's forehand not so quite

:47:34. > :47:38.effective. I will go with Djokovic in straight sets. Normally I would

:47:39. > :47:42.give him a debt first. We will ask him in a moment. It has gone to

:47:43. > :47:46.darkness because the players are going to be out in a moment. Now let

:47:47. > :47:50.us hear from Rafa. You have not won the world tour

:47:51. > :47:55.finals yet. What would it mean to win indoors for the first time at

:47:56. > :48:02.this event? If that happens, it would be the perfect way to close

:48:03. > :48:12.the best season in my career, emotionally and results, one of the

:48:13. > :48:17.best. That is it, Nadal will end 2013 is the world number one! That

:48:18. > :48:23.is what the celebration is about. Even if I lose, it will not change

:48:24. > :48:30.my mind about this season. Everything that has happened has

:48:31. > :48:36.happened. Really unbelievable. I am just enjoying every moment. You are

:48:37. > :48:39.a big fan of all sports. Would you accept this is one of the greatest

:48:40. > :48:46.sporting comebacks you have ever seen? It is arrogant if you say it

:48:47. > :48:52.about yourself. I do not think I can talk about my feelings. What is sure

:48:53. > :48:59.is that it is the most difficult year in my career. Also the happiest

:49:00. > :49:03.years. It has much more value than other years. We have heard from both

:49:04. > :49:08.players and they are getting ready in the corridor for the walk. This

:49:09. > :49:13.is what matches are all about, the build up. I used to love the build

:49:14. > :49:18.up, the nervous excitement. This is a huge tournament. It certainly is.

:49:19. > :49:22.The only difference is that they are so well looked after. They have

:49:23. > :49:28.individual locker room is. Normally Rafa and Novak Djokovic would be

:49:29. > :49:33.prancing around in the locker room together because everyone is

:49:34. > :49:37.normally in one big locker room It is going to be interesting to gauge

:49:38. > :49:42.the crowd reaction when they come out. It is getting noisy already.

:49:43. > :49:47.The heartbeat you can hear is getting them all excited. This

:49:48. > :49:51.matches coming on late on court because the doubles final over ran a

:49:52. > :49:56.little bit. It is going to be worth waiting for. Let us enjoy the moment

:49:57. > :50:00.because the players are just about to be introduced. Ladies and

:50:01. > :50:04.gentlemen, the world number two and defending champion, from Serbia

:50:05. > :50:46.Novak Djokovic! CHEERING Ladies and gentlemen, the world

:50:47. > :50:54.number one, winner of 13 grand slam titles, making his sixth appearance

:50:55. > :50:58.at the Barclays ATP World Tour five -- finals, from Majorca, Spain, Rafa

:50:59. > :51:28.Nadal. CHEERING Ladies and gentlemen...

:51:29. > :51:39.SUE BARKER: Wonderful at the O2 Arena. Tennis showbiz.

:51:40. > :51:46.I hope from 2015 that it is given full consideration for the

:51:47. > :51:52.possibility for it to stay here The crowds have been huge and that is

:51:53. > :51:57.minus the biggest draw, Andy Murray. I think it is fabulous. You will be

:51:58. > :52:01.able to see the tournament on the BBC for another two years. The

:52:02. > :52:08.contract has been signed. People enjoy this because I think the

:52:09. > :52:12.players love the atmosphere. It is incredible. Any time you come to a

:52:13. > :52:20.stadium that is full, it is a good start. When you have 17,500 people,

:52:21. > :52:28.it is incredible. It is fitting the number one and number two players,

:52:29. > :52:35.fitting that they are back. I think it will be another minute or two

:52:36. > :52:41.before Rafa is ready. There is a lot to get in place. The interview was

:52:42. > :52:43.interesting. He had his cap on. He had just done 55 minutes in the

:52:44. > :52:48.press room so he had just done 55 minutes in the

:52:49. > :52:54.has to do different languages. A lot of interest. Talking in the press

:52:55. > :52:58.conference about needing to be more aggressive on court when playing

:52:59. > :53:09.against Djokovic so many tactics to play. I cannot wait for it to begin.

:53:10. > :53:17.Heery comes. -- here he comes. Good evening. I have some reminders. We

:53:18. > :53:22.have TV changeovers. Please be seated. If you want to challenge a

:53:23. > :53:33.call, it has to be made in a timely and clear manner. Any questions

:53:34. > :53:38.Richard, can you ask Novak Djokovic, heads or tails? Urine heads or

:53:39. > :53:51.tails? Heads is called. -- heads or tails? Your choice. Novak Djokovic

:53:52. > :54:02.has won the toss and is going to serve. It is or is going to be a

:54:03. > :54:08.tactic against Federer to make sure he keeps his first ball in. Likewise

:54:09. > :54:14.today, playing against one of the best returners in the game, it is

:54:15. > :54:18.going to be important to see not necessarily how many aces or

:54:19. > :54:22.unreturnable serves Rafa conserve, but how often he sets up the first

:54:23. > :54:28.shot of the rally, how often he can get it into play and start getting

:54:29. > :54:34.Djokovic on the defence. He is so fired up for this match. He could do

:54:35. > :54:38.his ankle in. He changes direction so quickly. He is really quite

:54:39. > :54:43.something. You asked the question earlier about comebacks. I was just

:54:44. > :54:47.trying to think, in terms of coming back from injuries, certainly this

:54:48. > :54:48.has been monstrously impressive Comebacks generally, Liverpool

:54:49. > :54:54.has been monstrously impressive last year, but he has done it for a

:54:55. > :54:58.has been monstrously impressive whole year. He has continued to

:54:59. > :55:02.dominate and he has delivered some of the most painful losses to Novak

:55:03. > :55:09.Djokovic. Thinking back, the run you are talking about in the head to

:55:10. > :55:12.heads, the seven victories in a row in 2011 that Novak Djokovic

:55:13. > :55:23.inflicted on Rafa, in the three Grand Slams, that was terrible,

:55:24. > :55:29.rotten. But he was the the one. . These two have been present in so

:55:30. > :55:36.many of the big moments in our sport. A question has come in which

:55:37. > :55:40.says, what does Rafa Nadal's comebacks say about the depth of

:55:41. > :55:48.men's tennis? I think it says more about Rafa than men's tennis. If you

:55:49. > :55:53.are complaining about the level of Murray, Federer-macro... I do not

:55:54. > :55:59.think we can please everyone! There are no other team-mates to help him

:56:00. > :56:05.back on the comeback trail. He is looking to win his 11th title of the

:56:06. > :56:11.year. Where that is a legitimate question and where it leads is, who

:56:12. > :56:15.is coming after the slot? I am not sure. Murray, Nadal, Federer, they

:56:16. > :56:30.were all winning tournaments early on. There are not that many that you

:56:31. > :56:34.could pick. Respect for the level of their play, but there is not

:56:35. > :56:40.something globally iconic about them. In each regard, with Federer,

:56:41. > :56:46.Nadal, Djokovic, these are global in a way that the next generation do

:56:47. > :56:51.not look like they are going to be. It happens. We may have a fallow two

:56:52. > :56:51.or three years when these guys finish

:56:52. > :57:03.or three years when these guys five years of enjoying matches like

:57:04. > :57:11.this then. It was interesting that Federer said about Rafa, how behind

:57:12. > :57:17.the baseline he plays on the surface -- how far behind. You want to give

:57:18. > :57:19.yourself more time against Federer because he is playing so

:57:20. > :57:26.aggressively. He plays with so much spin and give the ball so much

:57:27. > :57:30.height and make a summit deep. If you are playing flat and fast

:57:31. > :57:36.against Federer, that is how he likes it. Nadal has an impact by

:57:37. > :57:41.going crosscourt. Unfortunately for Federer, that breaks it down. Would

:57:42. > :57:47.you expect to see Rafa being more aggressive? He has to be. You cannot

:57:48. > :57:52.knock him off balance. He has an unbelievably clinical, surgical

:57:53. > :57:58.attack. Watching the practice early on, he was taking the ball early and

:57:59. > :58:03.hitting it crosscourt and then moving to the right and fitting the

:58:04. > :58:08.crosscourt forehand. It is a pattern he knows he will get from Nadal

:58:09. > :58:14.today. To say he was hitting it purely is an understatement. It is

:58:15. > :58:19.tennis perfection at times that these two boys put together. I wish

:58:20. > :58:24.it was best of five sets! I bet they don't. It has been a long year. You

:58:25. > :58:34.have another cup of tea on this Who are you going for? Are you giving

:58:35. > :58:40.the first pic? I have won two. They have been betting all week on

:58:41. > :58:51.different matches. My choice first. Djokovic. Can you see his face? ! He

:58:52. > :58:55.is not a bad man to have. You cannot complain if you have got Nadal on

:58:56. > :58:58.your side. Fingers crossed. There is so little between these. They have

:58:59. > :59:08.played 39 times. It is 22 to the so little between these. They have

:59:09. > :59:12.dial. -- to Nadal. It is about who can create chances on the day. I

:59:13. > :59:18.would not be surprised if it goes to three sets and comes down to a final

:59:19. > :59:23.set tie-break shoot out. Players love to be the world number one We

:59:24. > :59:32.saw how Rafa celebrated earlier this week. It is also about titles and

:59:33. > :59:35.Rafa has not won this. It is incredible when you reflect he has

:59:36. > :59:42.won all four Grand Slams, Olympic gold, the Davis Cup several times.

:59:43. > :59:48.This is the one he has not won. If he were to complete that, I think

:59:49. > :59:52.Andre Agassi is the only other one who has achieved that, the four

:59:53. > :59:57.Grand Slams, Olympic gold and Davis. Again, it is not when you are out on

:59:58. > :00:01.the court playing the match, you are not thinking about the prize money,

:00:02. > :00:06.the ranking points, the tournament, it you are thinking about the

:00:07. > :00:13.tactics to implement to beat Novak Djokovic. Confidence is such a big

:00:14. > :00:17.key. Rafa has got it in abundance. Coming in here with a 21 match

:00:18. > :00:21.winning streak and winning the weight Novak Djokovic has won this

:00:22. > :00:30.week, he comes onto the court knowing he is on great form. Yes.

:00:31. > :00:33.One of the challenges for all the players if they have had a busy

:00:34. > :00:37.year, Djokovic playing the last week, you would have thought they

:00:38. > :00:44.would both be looking a bit jaded but it doesn't seem to be the case.

:00:45. > :00:48.We talked about the five set final spot after what they have been

:00:49. > :00:53.through, to go out and play five sets wouldn't be fair, so it is a

:00:54. > :01:03.good scenario to have this three-set final. His parents, girlfriend,

:01:04. > :01:04.Rafa. Everybody wanted a ticket It is a fitting final tournament match,

:01:05. > :01:13.isn't it? No doubt is a fitting final tournament match,

:01:14. > :01:18.about Andy winning Wimbledon, Djokovic has played fantastically

:01:19. > :01:22.well. So to have the number one and number two player playing against

:01:23. > :01:25.each other in the World Tour finals is the perfect way to finish, and

:01:26. > :01:30.hopefully they can both perform and give us another classic. Djokovic

:01:31. > :01:34.would dearly love to win this because Rafa has taken his number

:01:35. > :01:44.one ranking and he wants to finish the year with a comma hold on, I am

:01:45. > :01:55.still here. -- finished the year with a, hold on, I am still here. It

:01:56. > :01:59.is going to be brutal tennis. The way they played, how aggressive how

:02:00. > :02:02.hard they hit the ball, how consistent they are, the most

:02:03. > :02:06.important thing to remember for people watching at home is the point

:02:07. > :02:10.has not finished until battle has bounced twice. There are certain

:02:11. > :02:14.times when you think, it is over, Rafa is out of position. There is no

:02:15. > :02:20.way he can win this point. He finds a way to get back in the rallies.

:02:21. > :02:22.And Djokovic is the same. We should have a bet on another cup of tea for

:02:23. > :02:30.the longest rally tonight, Andrew and I. We have had a few of those

:02:31. > :02:36.this week! It is going to go on and on! Andrew is in position. What are

:02:37. > :02:42.you going to go for? Well, I need to hear exactly and in detail how many

:02:43. > :02:48.shots Tim thinks it will be. I think the longest rally will be 34 shots.

:02:49. > :02:54.I'm going to say more than that for another cup of tea! A good shout! We

:02:55. > :02:57.will pre-need more than a cup of tea watching this match! It is going to

:02:58. > :03:01.be something really quite special. If you want to send in more

:03:02. > :03:07.questions for the team, you can There are many ways on social media.

:03:08. > :03:08.Our Facebook page and on Twitter. If you want to send us a

:03:09. > :03:11.Our Facebook page and on Twitter. If #bbctennis. So we are all set for

:03:12. > :03:18.this final. The #bbctennis. So we are all set for

:03:19. > :03:21.last tournament match of the year. So, sit back and enjoy it in the

:03:22. > :03:33.company of Andrew and Tim Henman. ANDREW CASTLE: Thank you, Sue. Thank

:03:34. > :03:39.you very much indeed. It is the world number one and the world

:03:40. > :03:45.number two to end this tournament. What a match to close with. One

:03:46. > :03:50.versus two for the fourth final of the year after Wimbledon, the US

:03:51. > :03:55.Open and Beijing. But here we are in London at the World Tour finals

:03:56. > :03:58.Both players undefeated through their groups and both semifinal

:03:59. > :04:42.winners. The Serbian will start Settled in, Tim? Phew! Only just!

:04:43. > :04:47.That was an hour in the studio! We should get paid overtime for that!

:04:48. > :05:25.34 shots, you reckon, the longest? Ah! I thought I was

:05:26. > :05:34.bet on the second point, Tim! Just easing in. Doesn't take them long to

:05:35. > :07:07.find their feet or their rhythm from the back of the court.

:07:08. > :07:15.So many statistics and so many numbers and so much history between

:07:16. > :07:18.the two. They put numbers together in the press room and there are just

:07:19. > :07:25.acres of forest dying in the press room and there are just

:07:26. > :07:29.these numbers through! And once you actually

:07:30. > :07:31.these numbers through! And once you anything. Do the players look at

:07:32. > :07:37.those statistics themselves at all? Is there anything to gain? I don't

:07:38. > :07:41.think they necessarily make too many comparisons. I think you are more

:07:42. > :07:45.interested in analysing your own game. If you are struggling on

:07:46. > :07:51.serve, you might look at your first serve percentage. But it is amazing

:07:52. > :07:55.how similar some of these things are. First serve percentage Djokovic

:07:56. > :08:01.and the dull name, 62.9 for Djokovic, 62.1 for the dull. -- for

:08:02. > :08:39.Nadal. UMPIRE: Once again, turn the flash

:08:40. > :09:14.off. Thank you. In the first row. APPLAUSE

:09:15. > :09:19.The ball's coming through the court, isn't it? Off the Djokovic racket. A

:09:20. > :10:04.couple of mistakes from Nadal. It is clinical. The attack is

:10:05. > :10:08.measured. Each shot played on its own merit. There is a purpose to

:10:09. > :10:17.every single strike of the ball from this man. Nadal just not really

:10:18. > :10:23.getting the strike in, the ball dropping a bit short. Djokovic

:10:24. > :10:24.immediately onto it. Three break points in Nadal's first service

:10:25. > :11:09.game. Oh! That was fantastic! Nadal had

:11:10. > :11:14.some proper disguise on that one. From that position to find that

:11:15. > :11:23.shot... Djokovic should had played such a fine point. -- Djokovic had.

:11:24. > :12:02.Giving no clues and just flipping it crosscourt. That was sweetly done.

:12:03. > :12:12.That is a sumptuous game from Djokovic. And he delivers a body

:12:13. > :12:17.blow with that serve. How impressed are you with this start, Tim?

:12:18. > :12:23.There's no one else in the world that can soak up that type of

:12:24. > :12:30.hitting from Nadal and then turn defence into attack. He resisted

:12:31. > :12:35.Nadal going to his forehand and still manage to not only get his

:12:36. > :12:40.racket on it, but get it back to a decent depth. You sent his intensity

:12:41. > :12:51.level. Just the second game of the match.

:12:52. > :12:58.He is already at 9.5 out of ten He is playing like the taking of his

:12:59. > :14:32.number one ranking was a bit rude! Still no control on the length of

:14:33. > :14:47.that forehand. He's only ever had one coach, which

:14:48. > :15:35.is his Uncle Toni. The author who worked on Nadal's

:15:36. > :15:40.book said lately about the family bond in the family, something

:15:41. > :16:22.Sicilian, just without the malice and the guns! Apologies

:16:23. > :16:31.Nadal struggling to make the contact he wants on that forehand side.

:16:32. > :16:41.Any clue as to why that would be? Use at now and again, that he is not

:16:42. > :16:46.perfect. -- you see it. At the French Open, just a couple of years

:16:47. > :16:50.ago, he sorted it out. Just rushing the strings rather than going

:16:51. > :16:56.through it. Well, when you have that much racket speed, if you are

:16:57. > :17:00.swinging at it that hard it is going to go a long way from where you want

:17:01. > :17:05.it to go, and he just hasn't quite found his depth. That added to the

:17:06. > :17:07.fact that Djokovic has come out on court timing things as sweetly as he

:17:08. > :17:25.can. Semifinal at the French Open earlier

:17:26. > :17:29.this year, the one major tournament which has eluded Djokovic. He lost

:17:30. > :17:34.to Nadal in one of the classics of this year, of all, actually. And

:17:35. > :17:41.then lost the ranking to him as well, and these are important losses

:17:42. > :17:53.in the context of a career. They are way ahead of Ferrer and Murray at

:17:54. > :17:54.number three and four in the world. Djokovic's

:17:55. > :17:57.number three and four in the world. Australian Open and the points

:17:58. > :18:02.number three and four in the world. got from that last year, which is

:18:03. > :18:07.around about 20% of his points. And of course, Nadal will be defending

:18:08. > :18:10.nothing, so he is just adding. So he might pull away in the rankings but

:18:11. > :18:16.you have a feeling Djokovic will keep him in his sights. Talking of

:18:17. > :18:22.pulling away, this is almost a must win game for Nadal in this set. To

:18:23. > :18:24.drop serve again and go down 4- , that would be a tough comeback even

:18:25. > :18:50.by his standards. Ooh! Stefan Edberg here. He will be

:18:51. > :21:23.back, playing a bit against you Flat as a pancake, Rafa, at the

:21:24. > :21:29.moment. He has nothing to get his teeth into.

:21:30. > :21:35.His level has been so average, it's difficult to get the adrenaline

:21:36. > :22:04.flowing. Djokovic won't be complaining.

:22:05. > :22:16.Ooh! He knows how big that point was. He stayed in it with the slide

:22:17. > :22:23.to the forehand offence. Just lifting up the back of the ball

:22:24. > :22:28.here. In two breaks he could have put the sets to bed. You can see by

:22:29. > :23:35.his reaction only in the fourth game that he knew how important that was.

:23:36. > :23:47.Mum, sister, girlfriend, uncle. Manager. They are all down there and

:23:48. > :23:51.they will be relieved that their man has actually got up and running

:23:52. > :24:01.What will be clearing up from the court? A bit of perspiration, I d

:24:02. > :24:02.think. 17,500 people and these lights, it gets pretty warm out

:24:03. > :24:16.there. Remember that backhand in the

:24:17. > :25:38.previous game on break point? It's the beauty of the scoring

:25:39. > :25:42.system in tennis. There you are thinking this set could be over and

:25:43. > :28:29.three minutes later it is 3-1, 15-30, half chance for Nadal.

:28:30. > :28:35.The dull name there is his attack so well with the forehand, sometimes

:28:36. > :28:39.you feel he is targeting the backhand and then he switches to the

:28:40. > :29:17.Djokovic forehand. -- Nadal varies his attack.

:29:18. > :29:32.Too along from Djokovic. -- too long. He saved a point that would

:29:33. > :29:41.have seen him down two breaks at 4-0 and suddenly we have a set on our

:29:42. > :29:48.hands. The service game Djokovic will not be happy with there. Made

:29:49. > :29:52.far too many unforced errors. Very hard to call it an unforced error

:29:53. > :29:56.when you are facing somebody like Nadal coming at you from both sides

:29:57. > :30:01.and with such varied attack and with a presence on the court he has

:30:02. > :30:04.earned over the years as well. Certainly there's a lot that would

:30:05. > :30:07.come in the category of forced errors but when you reflect on a

:30:08. > :30:12.couple of forehand there, the short slice Nadal hit to bring Djokovic

:30:13. > :30:19.in, his approach on this from six feet, and there's no doubt that was

:30:20. > :30:32.an unforced error. Alex says, how would Sampras, Agassi,

:30:33. > :30:39.an unforced error. Alex says, how would say the greatest of all time.

:30:40. > :30:44.It is difficult to compare it is but also you have to take into account

:30:45. > :30:50.conditions. If you put Rafa playing on some of those fast, Supreme Court

:30:51. > :30:56.'s Boris Becker and Pete Sampras used to play on, I fancy their

:30:57. > :30:59.chances. I'd think Rafa would have liked those. But put Sampras playing

:31:00. > :31:05.on this court, I don't fancy his chances of getting a set. No. And

:31:06. > :31:11.Rafa was very quick when this debate came up to talk about Rod Lader

:31:12. > :31:20.whom he never saw play but who was just magnificent. Before he became

:31:21. > :31:25.professional and then after he went professional. How many would he have

:31:26. > :31:28.won? If he had had the chance to enter them. So there's that

:31:29. > :32:07.particular debate. The answer - don't know!

:32:08. > :32:18.A spectacle to watch a rally like that and a spectacle to hear it

:32:19. > :32:23.Boom. That is technical expertise. To hit a ball at the end of a long

:32:24. > :32:25.rally, kicking off the surface like that. It just does not happen

:32:26. > :33:25.without a bit of practice. It is supposed to be 25 seconds

:33:26. > :33:38.between points. It has been a bone of contention this year.

:33:39. > :33:49.Nadal had a good look at that after he hit the forehand on the baseline

:33:50. > :33:54.and decided not to stop play. Ladies and gentlemen, please do not use

:33:55. > :34:00.cameras with flash. Djokovic had such a clean start. First three

:34:01. > :34:02.games, five winners, two unforced errors. Suddenly, after six games,

:34:03. > :37:04.he has made 11 unforced errors. Sense of history when these to play

:37:05. > :37:12.against each other. Federer as well. Records. Rafa Nadal took over in

:37:13. > :37:15.October. He is 108 weeks at number one in total and he will stay number

:37:16. > :37:23.one at the end of the year. Bjorn Borg, 109 weeks. In a week. Time, he

:37:24. > :37:32.will overtake him. Bjorn Borg retired at 26. Novak Djokovic at 101

:37:33. > :37:36.weeks. When all is said and done, it is better to be higher up the list

:37:37. > :37:42.and lower down. The person Nadal will be chasing soon is John

:37:43. > :37:49.McEnroe. A full year away to get there. Roger Federer is the

:37:50. > :37:54.record-holder. Puts it into perspective how consistent Federer

:37:55. > :38:03.was. Not just winning the Grand Slam events, but the all-round

:38:04. > :38:16.tournaments. Nadal is only, in' is, been our number one 108 weeks. Six

:38:17. > :38:26.full year that the head of the game for Roger Federer. That means no

:38:27. > :38:31.injuries, no downturn in form. Am I supposed to feel sorry for him now?

:38:32. > :38:38.I don't think so! Federer defeated in straight sets by Rafa Nadal in

:38:39. > :38:45.the semifinal. Last night Novak Djokovic defeated Stanislas

:38:46. > :38:48.Wawrinka. That set up the clash between world number one and two at

:38:49. > :40:43.the season-ending championships Rafa is never going to be serving

:40:44. > :40:54.bullets but that number of first serves is not ideal.

:40:55. > :41:04.If he gets the number up, he can dominate with the second shot in the

:41:05. > :41:15.rally. That was a quietly magnificent return of serve. 12

:41:16. > :41:36.serve, arise back at 85 miles an hour with a good length.

:41:37. > :41:45.A good length and a flat hit from Djokovic is a hard to handle,

:41:46. > :42:08.although Nadal is making mistakes that you would not expect.

:42:09. > :42:46.Some extra beef on that one. That is about as quick as he will get, 25.

:42:47. > :43:04.Normally he serves about four doubles the week.

:43:05. > :43:31.Went down the middle last the break point.

:43:32. > :43:44.That is a proper tennis point! Did you see Djokovic make ground to get

:43:45. > :43:47.that lob over Nadal's head? It was after this cut volley, look at

:43:48. > :43:54.that! History, lightning down the other end. -- a streak of lightning.

:43:55. > :44:15.It has all got a bit nervy. I thought you said they were tired

:44:16. > :44:35.at the end of the year? ! At macro you said that!

:44:36. > :44:42.I am still thinking about how he got over to the lob. That was some

:44:43. > :45:50.speed. That is lucky. He made all the

:45:51. > :47:16.running in that point. Had That is lucky. He made all the

:47:17. > :47:23.to put the first forehand away after the serve. Then got involved in a

:47:24. > :47:27.gruelling battle. What a point. Was that half-volley going to go wide? I

:47:28. > :48:21.think that was lucky on two occasions.

:48:22. > :48:37.Game and first set, Djokovic. Well, the set went in blocks of three

:48:38. > :48:46.games. Djokovic out to a quick start. Sort Nadal comeback 3-3 and

:48:47. > :48:52.polished it off -- saw Nadal. Good fortune, you could call it. But

:48:53. > :48:56.there was such intensity to the set. Looking at the numbers, would not

:48:57. > :49:03.normally talk about double faults, but four from Rafa is unusual. He

:49:04. > :49:11.got off to a slow start. Double faults not be helped on the game he

:49:12. > :49:13.lost his serve to go 3-5 down. Only winning 53% of first serve points

:49:14. > :49:19.and 45% on the second. Those numbers winning 53% of first serve points

:49:20. > :49:24.will be lower when you play against a fantastic return, but he will be

:49:25. > :49:31.looking to improve those. Djokovic is not only living with him from the

:49:32. > :49:37.back of the court, he is getting the better of it. Marginally. A point or

:49:38. > :49:42.two here or there. Without the net cord, it could have been very

:49:43. > :49:47.different. I will have the number one ranking back! Caption

:49:48. > :50:00.competition. It is very different than any other match we have seen

:50:01. > :50:15.over the course of the week. Do get in touch if you are enjoying this. #

:50:16. > :50:21.BBC tennis. It is quite a spectacle when the best play against each

:50:22. > :50:27.other. It seems to have gone up 5%. They get the best out of each other.

:50:28. > :50:33.For Nadal, his self talk is always positive. What do you think it

:50:34. > :50:37.resolves around? Certainly putting the first set behind him. He is

:50:38. > :50:43.serving the first game in the second and wants to concentrate on that and

:50:44. > :50:50.start to reverse the momentum. Did well to get back in the first set

:50:51. > :51:00.and hit the amazing point at break point. In reality, Nadal should have

:51:01. > :51:07.put the backhand volley away. Nadal's season closes here. No Spain

:51:08. > :51:10.in the Davis Cup this year. For Novak Djokovic, next week it is

:51:11. > :51:19.Belgrade against the Czech Republic. Tomas Berdych in his team.

:51:20. > :51:23.What an end of year it has been for Djokovic. Since losing to Nadal in

:51:24. > :51:32.the US Open in September, he is unbeaten. 21 matches, this is

:51:33. > :51:41.the US Open in September, he is 22nd. Take your seats quickly,

:51:42. > :51:44.please. The players are ready. Incidentally, Great Britain are back

:51:45. > :51:49.in the world group of the Davis Cup and they play against the United

:51:50. > :51:54.States at the end of January, the 31st of January and the 1st of

:51:55. > :52:24.February, in San Diego. If Andy Murray wasn't ready for the

:52:25. > :52:34.Australian Open, do you think he would be ready for the Davis Cup?

:52:35. > :52:36.May be? Maybe. First match back five sets on clay, the surface that

:52:37. > :52:53.gave him most trouble. Errors. Does not need to give

:52:54. > :52:58.Djokovic start in this set. That was a very unusual ratio of. As for

:52:59. > :53:52.Nadal. -- ratio of unforced errors. This had some have time on it. It

:53:53. > :53:58.missed the big scoreboard by about six feet. You would think you would

:53:59. > :54:00.want to be giving yourself a bit more margin for error, but Nadal

:54:01. > :55:18.goes for it even more. Mr Nadal is challenging the call.

:55:19. > :55:29.Baseline. The ball is called out. The line judge did not look totally

:55:30. > :55:37.confident. -- did not look. That is why Hawk-Eye is there. We play the

:55:38. > :55:46.confident. -- did not look. That is point. --

:55:47. > :56:02.That is a big holes from 0- 30. -- big holes. Here is a statistic for

:56:03. > :56:05.you. The winner of the first set in the last eight matches between these

:56:06. > :56:16.two macro has gone on to win the match. Relevant? Both good front

:56:17. > :56:23.runners. Djokovic's cans down the line today, he is going down the

:56:24. > :56:32.line a lot more. That is the attack he tries to set up. You can drown in

:56:33. > :56:36.these stats! He has a very specific game plan which he would not share

:56:37. > :59:00.with anyone else, just him, coach and team.

:59:01. > :59:09.This is where Djokovic is so good. He felt he was under a bit of

:59:10. > :59:11.pressure. But he is able to hit the ball a foot from baseline and the

:59:12. > :59:45.sideline to get back in the point. It's been another wonderful year. He

:59:46. > :59:53.may have lost the world number one ranking, but

:59:54. > :59:55.may have lost the world number one time we started putting some

:59:56. > :00:02.pressure on Andy Murray in that regard, don't you think, Tim? All

:00:03. > :01:09.take that as a no comment! Definitely! -- I will take that

:01:10. > :02:59.Sister on the right of Rafa Nadal. Vamos indeed!

:03:00. > :03:06.You just don't really expect to see those last four points from either

:03:07. > :03:11.player. Two unforced errors from Nadal to go down 40-0 and two

:03:12. > :03:21.unforced errors from Djokovic for it to become 30-40.

:03:22. > :03:29.Nadal made the mistake of getting a first serve in there and it came

:03:30. > :03:36.right back so quickly off the top of his racket. What a return of serve!

:03:37. > :03:45.If you don't keep him guessing on that return, he's going to punish

:03:46. > :03:49.you, isn't he? He is. And Nadal happy first serve percentage up on

:03:50. > :04:00.this set but wasn't quite able to find the spots. Just a

:04:01. > :04:03.this set but wasn't quite able to people we have with us here.

:04:04. > :04:04.this set but wasn't quite able to models, film stars,

:04:05. > :04:10.this set but wasn't quite able to sorts with us today! Half the

:04:11. > :04:15.Arsenal football team are here. Eye was saluting them early on because

:04:16. > :04:32.they beat Dortmund but now they have lost to Manchester United. -- I was.

:04:33. > :04:46.Is that Molly? Mollie King from The Saturdays. So, Nadal. Is it Nadal

:04:47. > :04:51.not playing to his high standards or is this about Djokovic being supreme

:04:52. > :04:57.this evening? I think it's a little bit of both but for me, I think the

:04:58. > :05:03.major factor of those two issues is Nadal's level. Too many unforced

:05:04. > :05:07.errors. First serve percentage has got better but only winning 50% of

:05:08. > :05:16.first serve points and 50% on the second. Those baseline rallies,

:05:17. > :05:20.Djokovic is bossing it. I think we might be seeing a performance from

:05:21. > :05:23.Djokovic which is higher than it looks. He's very deceptive and

:05:24. > :05:29.incredibly effective at doing the basics. Doing the basics

:05:30. > :05:40.brilliantly. Though, yes, Lily there are mistakes from the Spanish end.

:05:41. > :05:45.-- clearly. 12 games and Rafa has hit four winners. Does that tell you

:05:46. > :05:54.something about Djokovic's anticipation? And his movement.

:05:55. > :07:37.Or does it tell you Nadal has missed?

:07:38. > :07:50.Nothing working for Rafa. Comfortable for Djokovic as he backs

:07:51. > :07:58.up that serve. They played recently in China, in Beijing, and Djokovic

:07:59. > :08:04.won that one very ably in three sets. Is this going to be another of

:08:05. > :08:07.those? It will be unless Rafa gets his act together pretty quick key.

:08:08. > :09:31.-- quickly. Haven't seen both players playing at

:09:32. > :10:07.the top of their game for six or seven rallies.

:10:08. > :10:11.Given his left knee has been such a problem, this run and the reaction

:10:12. > :10:21.afterwards from Rafa if we see it, just watch it now... You don't see

:10:22. > :10:22.him pull up but we will here. Doesn't need that sort of a run on

:10:23. > :10:57.the left knee. Just winced a bit. I think we have to remember as well,

:10:58. > :11:00.Tim, when watching this, that this is Rafa's least favourite surface

:11:01. > :11:11.and the one he has had the least success on. The ATP Tour finals is

:11:12. > :11:14.just the top eight players in the world and the argument that it could

:11:15. > :11:23.be played on clay at some point and I have some sympathy for that

:11:24. > :11:26.argument. Yes. It made a name for itself at Madison Square Garden is

:11:27. > :11:35.and it has been in Shanghai, Sydney, Frankfurt, Houston,

:11:36. > :11:39.Hanover. A lot of that was the Boris Becker access. It goes where the

:11:40. > :11:49.stars. Obviously in Sydney, Lleyton Hewitt. And, you know, it is such a

:11:50. > :11:54.great event. 260,000 plus people. Just this week. It has found a home

:11:55. > :11:58.and I'd believe if you have this opportunity, a great sponsor,

:11:59. > :12:02.incredible crowds, Andy Murray, fingers crossed he can be back here,

:12:03. > :12:12.you want to make the most of it in London. We have two more years of it

:12:13. > :12:22.no matter what, and then, well, well before that, a decision will be

:12:23. > :12:34.made. We could make a concession in the UK and say, look, OK,

:12:35. > :12:36.Birmingham, Manchester... Glasgow. Somebody shouts at Newcastle in my

:12:37. > :13:55.ear! Absolutely! Taunton. That is so clean from Djokovic. Not

:13:56. > :14:03.one stick you feel Nadal was really in it. -- not once did you feel And

:14:04. > :14:08.I can tell you, he was flexing his knee after that running. Never in

:14:09. > :14:12.the point but the last blow was a significant one and Djokovic had to

:14:13. > :14:16.handle it. But the way the serving can keep Rafa out of these rallies

:14:17. > :14:40.is impressive indeed. gingerly after that serve. We

:14:41. > :15:14.normally see him moving like a gazelle.

:15:15. > :16:26.Nadal trying to get stuck into a Djokovic service game.

:16:27. > :16:44.Djokovic snaps up a mini comeback? Stays up for-2. -- 4-2. He looks

:16:45. > :16:52.utterly in control of the money No letup, is there? He knows. He can

:16:53. > :16:58.see the winning line. Finish the match here with another break. Get

:16:59. > :17:05.the job done. That's see what Nadal has in the tank. Ten titles this

:17:06. > :19:27.year. World number one for sure -- let's see.

:19:28. > :19:39.He's giving Nadal the absolute runaround here. His ground strokes

:19:40. > :19:46.full of precision. And Nadal is left sweeping from side to side, really

:19:47. > :19:50.just guessing. It's amazing to say Djokovic is just bullying Nadal from

:19:51. > :20:00.the back of the court. He's the one dictating. This is what it was like

:20:01. > :20:10.in 2011, when Djokovic won seven times straight. Real dominance for a

:20:11. > :20:11.while. Three grand slams in a row. Wimbledon, US Open and Australian

:20:12. > :22:19.Open finals. Nadal's just got to find a way to

:22:20. > :22:57.hold onto this service game, to then put some pressure on Djokovic.

:22:58. > :23:08.Rafa holds on, keeps the match alive! A bruising seventh game. In

:23:09. > :23:16.the second set. And Djokovic will feel frustrated with that. Looking

:23:17. > :23:23.at the statistics here, forehand winners, one for Nadal. Just has not

:23:24. > :23:30.been able to impose his game in any way on Djokovic. But, do you know

:23:31. > :23:33.what? He got through the game. He did and he doesn't know the meaning

:23:34. > :23:43.of the word submit. He hung in there. Some great match points with

:23:44. > :23:47.the way Djokovic has been serving and he certainly gives himself

:23:48. > :23:55.another opportunity, perhaps two opportunities, to break Djokovic.

:23:56. > :23:59.Fiona says, I am hoping this goes to three sets just so the tennis season

:24:00. > :24:05.can last that little bit longer I know what you mean! Another says,

:24:06. > :24:13.Djokovic is like fine wine. Getting better with age. Chris says, both

:24:14. > :24:21.have had a great year. And the new Year will start with the Australian

:24:22. > :24:25.Open, where Djokovic will be defending. So nice to see the

:24:26. > :24:30.pictures coming in from Australia if you are not lucky enough to be

:24:31. > :24:38.there. Clear blue skies. A bit of a rest for the players, though, before

:24:39. > :24:53.that. Most of them will have tend days -- ten days to Bob two weeks

:24:54. > :24:57.away from the game. -- to. They will get to enjoy a tranquil holiday

:24:58. > :25:04.without the attention of the paparazzi lenses. Could

:25:05. > :25:07.without the attention of the bit of distance left to run in this

:25:08. > :26:53.match. Wow! Does he play well or what?

:26:54. > :26:54.Absolute control of the ball. He is four feet inside the baseline,

:26:55. > :27:43.taking the angle... It's only the fourth point he has

:27:44. > :28:03.lost on serve. In this set. Not much for Nadal fans to get a

:28:04. > :28:36.hold of in these Djokovic service games.

:28:37. > :28:44.The Serbian has made so many correct decisions and judgements. That

:28:45. > :28:48.second serve, the committed kick serve down the middle, at exactly

:28:49. > :28:52.the right time and that name just moving to his right to get the

:28:53. > :28:56.forehand into play. Djokovic perhaps out of the corner of his eye seeing

:28:57. > :29:01.it and get into the corner. It's impressive. -- getting to the

:29:02. > :30:23.corner. The 39th meeting between these two.

:30:24. > :30:26.Certainly not a classic. Heavy duty rivalry, that is for sure. The big

:30:27. > :31:24.hitting has come from Djokovic. Well, the clock is ticking towards

:31:25. > :31:26.want more but Nadal is facing match point. Championship point,

:31:27. > :32:37.Djokovic. His game has not always been that

:32:38. > :32:41.but the spirit is still there. If he can hang on once again, Djokovic

:32:42. > :32:47.might question himself in the next game.

:32:48. > :33:11.That was magnificent! Rafa holds from championship point down.

:33:12. > :33:18.As a player, you feel rubbish when you have a match point and you have

:33:19. > :33:24.to come out and serve for it. It is a question of staying in the

:33:25. > :33:28.present, if you can. Very much so. Djokovic was trying hard to finish

:33:29. > :33:33.the match. So that he did not have to go through the trials and

:33:34. > :33:37.tribulations of serving the match and championship out. The... Knows

:33:38. > :33:45.he has given himself another chance -- Nadal knows. It is very important

:33:46. > :33:58.he tries to get into the first couple of points, try to get

:33:59. > :34:04.there-15, 15-30. He has not quite managed to get into the games.

:34:05. > :34:09.Always playing catch-up, always behind in the count. Djokovic is

:34:10. > :34:18.bound to be nervous, trying to put one over his great rival, beat him

:34:19. > :34:23.in the US Open final, French Open semifinal this year. Djokovic could

:34:24. > :34:35.have had a career year if it was not for the pesky Rafa. Nadal is not

:34:36. > :34:45.moving very well, I have to say I think the knee is a big issue. You

:34:46. > :34:50.did not see him on the TV shots coming out. He will put it to the

:34:51. > :34:56.back of his mind and he will grin and bear it, but I think he did hurt

:34:57. > :35:36.himself earlier. Serving for the tour finals.

:35:37. > :35:44.He does not look livid but I have seen him Mr two of those in the last

:35:45. > :37:38.two Djokovic service games. Very unusual.

:37:39. > :39:12.He was not going to give Djokovic another bite of the cherry.

:39:13. > :39:18.Talk about Nadal's comeback this year! This would be some comeback in

:39:19. > :40:35.this match. It is Djokovic! For the third time,

:40:36. > :40:43.he wins the season-ending championships. Nadal has yet to do

:40:44. > :40:52.so. He will remain the world number one. Right now, this is the man of

:40:53. > :41:06.the moment. Exactly the same scoreline as he defeated Nadal

:41:07. > :41:13.recently in China. 22 matches in a row since losing the US Open final.

:41:14. > :41:19.That is form and that is spirit That is it for the year for Rafa

:41:20. > :41:25.Nadal. What a year. Sees him pick up two of his three Grand Slams that he

:41:26. > :41:30.contested this year. This man one in Australia, Djokovic. Semifinalist at

:41:31. > :41:38.the friends, semifinal at Wimbledon, lost Andy Murray. It came

:41:39. > :41:42.down to one versus two in this magnificent arena and the number two

:41:43. > :41:48.wins. A third season-ending victory for the Serbian. Absolutely

:41:49. > :42:00.undeniably the top man here for the Serbian. Absolutely

:42:01. > :42:06.week. Djokovic lost so few points when he got the delivery and. A huge

:42:07. > :42:14.effort from Rafa Nadal to make the last service game close. Eventually

:42:15. > :42:19.he succumbed when putting a forehand just wide. When a stir and forced

:42:20. > :42:27.errors is worth looking at. -- winners to unforced errors. Djokovic

:42:28. > :42:36.was able to get the surgical strikes in. He certainly landed some heavy

:42:37. > :42:41.blows from the back of the court. No aces from Nadal either. That is not

:42:42. > :42:46.totally unusual. Djokovic illustrating from the back of the

:42:47. > :42:51.point, his movement and anticipation and conditioning, just supreme. I

:42:52. > :43:02.cannot wait for the next instalment of this rivalry. Their next will be

:43:03. > :43:06.number 40, a rivalry for the ages. Boris Becker and Bjorn Edberg only

:43:07. > :43:16.played 35. Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, 34. This has surpassed those

:43:17. > :43:23.numbers. Andy Murray will join them in Australia, if he recovers from

:43:24. > :43:27.surgery. And Federer will look to put together a more consistent year

:43:28. > :43:33.on the fitness front and more consistent results will follow. That

:43:34. > :43:41.is ahead. Now we celebrate Novak Djokovic with a third victory at the

:43:42. > :43:46.ATP World Tour finals. SUE BARKER: That really was a superhuman effort

:43:47. > :43:50.from this man. We anticipated it would be a tight match but he took

:43:51. > :44:00.dominated. He never let Rafa in He dominated. He never let Rafa in He

:44:01. > :44:02.authority on the first three games, he sent out a message

:44:03. > :44:08.authority on the first three games, he was hitting the ball and how well

:44:09. > :44:14.he was moving. Rafa came back into it but you felt Djokovic was plainly

:44:15. > :44:19.better tennis. For me, it was one match to far for Rafa. He has had an

:44:20. > :44:25.incredible year and deserves to be world 11. But at this moment in

:44:26. > :44:30.time, indoors, Djokovic is the player to beat. Worrying signs, four

:44:31. > :44:35.double faults in the first set which is uncharacteristic of Rafa. There

:44:36. > :44:43.is the worry that possibly the need or some sort of injury... -- Dini.

:44:44. > :44:47.It is not ideal. You do not want to see him limping. But at the end of

:44:48. > :44:55.the year, it is a hard year and he will look forward to his holiday.

:44:56. > :45:02.Back we go for the presentation Former ATP executive chairman,

:45:03. > :45:12.president and our friend, Brad Drewett. This year, the world of

:45:13. > :45:18.tennis lost one of its beloved sons, ATP executive chairman and president

:45:19. > :45:23.Brad Drewett passed away aged 5 following a battle with no to

:45:24. > :45:27.nearing disease -- motor neurone disease. In his honour, the world

:45:28. > :45:35.tour finals single strophe has been renamed the Brad Drewett Trophy

:45:36. > :45:40.ensuring his legacy will live on. We remember him as a very calm,

:45:41. > :45:45.composed, intelligent man who loved the sport with all of his heart

:45:46. > :45:56.While playing, coaching and then as a president of ATP. He had a big

:45:57. > :46:17.passion for tennis and that is the memory we can keep. APPLAUSE

:46:27. > :46:30.singles presentation, the Brad Drewett Trophy will be carried on to

:46:31. > :46:36.court by Rebecca Caine, the lucky winner of a competition. This

:46:37. > :46:41.once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has been given to the fans by Barclays

:46:42. > :46:43.to recognise the importance of the role that they play in the success

:46:44. > :47:28.of this event. Thank you very much. If you could

:47:29. > :47:32.please welcome back onto court the members of the Barclays ATP World

:48:43. > :48:50.gentlemen, to show your appreciation for the 20 13th Barclays ATP World

:48:51. > :49:19.Tour finals runner-up, is Rafael Nadal. APPLAUSE

:49:20. > :49:53.Hello. CHEERING Thank you. Hello, everybody. First thing I want to

:49:54. > :49:59.say, congratulations to Novak I wish you the best of luck for the

:50:00. > :50:06.final of the Davis Cup, you deserve it. The second thing, thank you very

:50:07. > :50:13.much to all of the people who are there supporting me, day by day for

:50:14. > :50:17.the last 20, 27 years. Without them, for sure, it would be impossible for

:50:18. > :50:22.me to for sure, it would be impossible for

:50:23. > :50:26.in this fantastic stadium in front of probably one of the best crowds

:50:27. > :50:40.of the world and the best atmosphere is here in London. Many thanks.

:50:41. > :50:48.Thank you very much all of the tournament organisation, one of the

:50:49. > :50:52.best events on tour. The director of the tournament, thank you very much

:50:53. > :50:59.for everything. You are doing a great job and you make us feel

:51:00. > :51:09.welcome. Thank you for everything. APPLAUSE All the sponsors, without

:51:10. > :51:12.them, it is impossible to have an event like this. All of the

:51:13. > :51:24.companies supporting our sport, thank you very much, for having the

:51:25. > :51:30.confidence in the tennis. And for the last thing, I have been no doubt

:51:31. > :51:35.the most emotional season in my career, after a tough injury like I

:51:36. > :51:40.had last year, I couldn't be here playing in one of the best

:51:41. > :51:45.tournaments. I missed it a lot. One of the best seasons of my career. To

:51:46. > :51:53.play the last match of the season in the stadium, it is just fantastic. I

:51:54. > :51:57.did not have the chance to win today because I played against a player

:51:58. > :52:05.who played much better than me today. Many thanks, all of the

:52:06. > :52:11.crowd. APPLAUSE For all of the support, not only today, around the

:52:12. > :52:14.week and all of the crowd that supported me and more than ever

:52:15. > :52:17.during the whole season around the world. Thank you very much. See you

:52:18. > :52:32.next year. Thank you. CHEERING And now, ladies and gentlemen, a man

:52:33. > :52:43.who has won this title three times, it is your 2013 Barclays ATP

:52:44. > :53:02.Champion, it is Novak Djokovic. APPLAUSE

:53:03. > :53:46.Good evening, everybody. CHEERING I would like to start congratulating

:53:47. > :53:51.Rafa and his team for an incredible season and what you have done this

:53:52. > :54:02.year is amazing. Congratulations for ending as the world number one.

:54:03. > :54:09.CHEERING Of course, this is a great place to finish the year. I would

:54:10. > :54:13.repeat Rafa's words. You guys are amazing. Thank you for appreciating

:54:14. > :54:20.what we do and having such a great passion for this sport and coming

:54:21. > :54:24.out the whole week. No empty seats on the stadium for every singles and

:54:25. > :54:27.doubles match, it means a lot to us. For us, it is a pleasure to play

:54:28. > :54:43.here. Thank you for your support. APPLAUSE Of course, tournament

:54:44. > :54:49.sponsors, volunteers, ball kids ATP, everybody taking part in a

:54:50. > :54:54.contribution to such a successful week, such as successful tournament,

:54:55. > :55:00.as I said, it is a great place to finish another season in a city that

:55:01. > :55:04.nurtures tennis tradition for a long time. Thank you all for supporting

:55:05. > :55:16.it and we will see you definitely next year. CHEERING I just want to

:55:17. > :55:23.finish by thanking my team, of course. The closest team of people

:55:24. > :55:27.who are not just my coaches, my professional team, but also very

:55:28. > :55:33.close and dear people to me who I always can rely on. You maybe CS

:55:34. > :55:38.playing a lot on the court and you think it is an individual sport But

:55:39. > :55:41.the big success comes from the back of the court, from these guys and

:55:42. > :55:50.what they give is very important to us. Tank you very much. APPLAUSE --

:55:51. > :55:56.thank you very much. SUE BARKER Thank you, Novak Djokovic. If you

:55:57. > :55:59.were not with us at the top of the programme, the tribute to Brad

:56:00. > :56:04.Drewett, the executive chairman and president of the ATP who sadly lost

:56:05. > :56:09.his battle with motor neurone disease this year. It is nice that

:56:10. > :56:16.the tournament has named the trophy after Brad What a final it was and

:56:17. > :56:22.what a match from Novak Djokovic. He dominated from the back of the

:56:23. > :56:26.court. Rafa could not match it. It is fair to say that Rafa did not

:56:27. > :56:31.reach the levels he is capable of. That was in large part due to

:56:32. > :56:32.Djokovic. He is so good at staying tight to the baseline. The forehands

:56:33. > :56:35.from Nadal give tight to the baseline. The forehands

:56:36. > :56:39.problems, but he is able to keep tight to the baseline. The forehands

:56:40. > :56:44.Nadal on the defensive. He tight to the baseline. The forehands

:56:45. > :56:48.play after the US Open, having not lost a match, an incredible finish

:56:49. > :56:55.to the year. Reflecting on it as a whole, Nadal is a worthy number one.

:56:56. > :56:59.We talk about Nadal and may be a problem with the need, but he does

:57:00. > :57:05.not like the surface and playing indoors, the court surface with the

:57:06. > :57:11.low bounce. Nobody else was good enough to get anywhere near him but

:57:12. > :57:15.Djokovic has a game that can. That is what he did today. A wonderful

:57:16. > :57:23.performance from Djokovic. But we can accept that this is not Nadal's

:57:24. > :57:29.surface. He would like the season-ending championship to be on

:57:30. > :57:33.clay. He wants it to be on clay because he would win it again and

:57:34. > :57:39.again and again like the French Open. Fair enough, this is

:57:40. > :57:44.probably... Nadal is as effective on this as anything. Hell of a

:57:45. > :57:53.performance from Novak. A wonderful evening. More sport coming up on the

:57:54. > :57:59.BBC. Highlights from the Rugby League World Cup. That is at 11 20pm

:58:00. > :58:04.on BBC Two. Today was Novak Djokovic that claimed the title for the third

:58:05. > :58:08.time. We look forward to 2014. What a year it could be with these two

:58:09. > :58:12.continuing their battle for world number one, to see Roger back on

:58:13. > :58:16.form would be great and hopefully we will see Andy Murray free from

:58:17. > :58:20.injury. We look forward to next year and we look forward to being here

:58:21. > :58:22.next year. We hope you have enjoyed the tournament as much as we have.

:58:23. > :59:39.Goodbye. Hi, I'm Sam. Here's our check on the

:59:40. > :59:42.global news channels. The aftermath of the massive typhoon

:59:43. > :59:46.in the Philippines dominates. "Survivors fighting for life amid

:59:47. > :59:50.the dead" is how CNN put it. NHK reported that debris was hampering

:59:51. > :59:54.rescuers. Vietnam's VTC were live as the typhoon made landfall there VTV
