:00:32. > :00:37.Good afternoon. Andy Murray is on a mission at the ATP World Tour Finals
:00:38. > :00:42.to finish the year as the world number one. He's made 22 match
:00:43. > :00:47.winning streak. Today he takes on the big man from Canada Milos
:00:48. > :00:51.Raonic. Raonic boasts a massive serve but no one returns serve
:00:52. > :00:55.better than the world number one. We are in for a real treat this
:00:56. > :01:06.afternoon as this is a repeat of the Wimbledon final. COMMENTATOR: Murray
:01:07. > :01:10.makes the semifinal unbeaten. That is magnificent. And he's taken a
:01:11. > :01:20.giant step towards a second Wimbledon title here. He's there,
:01:21. > :01:27.straight sets against. It's Murray's time in the sunshine of Centre
:01:28. > :01:32.Court, once again. STUDIO: Another wonderful day for British tennis and
:01:33. > :01:36.indeed for Andy's mum Judy! Was this final bit easier than the first
:01:37. > :01:41.Wimbledon final that he won? It was in the sense you know what's going
:01:42. > :01:53.to happen and you can prepare emotionally a bit for it. I think
:01:54. > :01:57.Milos is different and I think he went into it in a really good frame
:01:58. > :02:01.of mind. I say he's on a mission and he wants to finish as wild number
:02:02. > :02:07.one. You've only got one son who is going to finish as world number one
:02:08. > :02:14.because Jamie is in the top doubles team as well. How proud IU of Jamie
:02:15. > :02:19.as well? It's been a remarkable year for Jamie. He got off to a flying
:02:20. > :02:25.start at the Australian Open winning his first Grand Slam title. He made
:02:26. > :02:32.two finals before and not quite got there. Doubles doesn't get so much
:02:33. > :02:40.coverage in the media and on TV so he flows flies under the radar
:02:41. > :02:44.compared to Andy. He has grown up and invested in himself, added a
:02:45. > :02:48.travelling coach, added a sports psychologist and he's really getting
:02:49. > :02:58.the benefits of it now. Andy is on his way to court, you tweeted a
:02:59. > :02:59.lovely photo about Jamie and Bruno, "Rude to point", saying they are
:03:00. > :03:03.world number one. You get nervous because you know how much it means
:03:04. > :03:10.to Jamie to be world number one and how much it means to Andy. He's
:03:11. > :03:14.obviously number one at the moment but everything is riding on what
:03:15. > :03:19.happened this weekend. There's an awful lot on his shoulders and a lot
:03:20. > :03:22.at stake. He's always been good at rising to the occasion. Usually if
:03:23. > :03:28.he puts his mind to something he can find a way through it. It's a tough
:03:29. > :03:33.one this afternoon. I know he's up for it and how much he wants to hang
:03:34. > :03:39.onto this number one spot. It is difficult to make that transition
:03:40. > :03:40.and play so well in the big occasion. Andy does it better than
:03:41. > :04:13.anyone else. This is Milos Raonic. Ladies and gentlemen, making his
:04:14. > :04:21.eighth appearance in the Berkeley 's ATP World Tour Finals, winner of 43
:04:22. > :04:27.titles including 14 ATP Tour Masters 1000s and three grandstand singles
:04:28. > :04:28.crowns, 2016 Wimbledon champion and world number one from Great Britain,
:04:29. > :05:01.Andy Murray! STUDIO: Will never get tired of
:05:02. > :05:04.hearing that announcement. Wimbledon champion, world number one from
:05:05. > :05:09.Great Britain, Andy Murray. Everyone rising to your younger boy again.
:05:10. > :05:14.It's been a wonderful journey over the past year but particularly the
:05:15. > :05:20.last six months. He's finished this year very strong. I think he
:05:21. > :05:23.last six months. He's finished this long way behind Novak after the
:05:24. > :05:28.French Open final. He was about 7000 points adrift. That's the equivalent
:05:29. > :05:33.of three Grand Slams and a Masters Series. It's a mountain to climb. He
:05:34. > :05:37.has just got stronger and stronger. It's been his most consistent
:05:38. > :05:41.season. You need 12 months of consistently high performance is to
:05:42. > :05:46.the top of the rankings and he managed to make it. Absolutely. We
:05:47. > :05:52.talk about Milos Raonic. He's such dangerous player. Andy seems to
:05:53. > :05:58.enjoy playing the big serves. It's quite a good matchup in that respect
:05:59. > :06:01.that Milos can readily crackdown be 140 mile an hour service but Andy
:06:02. > :06:08.loves the challenge of trying to return those Serbs and his return is
:06:09. > :06:17.probably the strongest part of his game -- to return those serves. He's
:06:18. > :06:21.played him 11 times. Five times this year! It's funny how some players
:06:22. > :06:28.you meet all the time. Whereas Wawrinka he's only met twice in
:06:29. > :06:31.three or for years. Milos is so dangerous, isn't he? Apart from the
:06:32. > :06:35.big serve he's such a big hitter as well. He's got a really big
:06:36. > :06:41.forehand. He runs around his forehand to hit the backhand. He
:06:42. > :06:54.gets incredibly good angles. He comes forward a lot and he's a big
:06:55. > :07:03.presence at the net. Say challenge, quickly, verbally, please. Any
:07:04. > :07:24.questions? Heads? It is tales. Milos? Heads. Tails. Serve? I think
:07:25. > :07:28.she has been a bit dwarfed by those two there! It is the big men out on
:07:29. > :07:33.court today, the world number one and at the moment Milos Raonic is in
:07:34. > :07:42.at number three. The battle between him and Kei Nishikori for the number
:07:43. > :07:43.three spot. The tee semifinal played today, we have Murray against Raonic
:07:44. > :07:56.tonight. Just talking about the boys and how
:07:57. > :07:59.they grew up, I think it was so evident at the Australian Open when
:08:00. > :08:04.Jamie, although he had won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon, trying to win
:08:05. > :08:08.his first Grand Slam men's doubles, that Andy stayed up until the early
:08:09. > :08:11.hours of the morning, even though he had the singles afterwards. Just the
:08:12. > :08:16.joy of what this meant to Jamie to win the Grand Slam. It was a huge
:08:17. > :08:19.thing. It was very late at night, Andy had the singles final the
:08:20. > :08:25.following day but he was watching it in bed at the hotel. As it got close
:08:26. > :08:32.to the end he sent me a text and said "Mum, Jamie is going win, I'm
:08:33. > :08:37.going to run to the courts". He was there in time to see the end of it.
:08:38. > :08:42.Jamie was very emotional and said in his speech, shouldn't you be in
:08:43. > :08:49.bed?! Andy almost says he feels Moffat Jamie more than his own
:08:50. > :08:52.matches -- more for Jamie. Andy is a real geek for tennis and he knows
:08:53. > :08:56.exactly what's happening with Jamie and what they need to do each week.
:08:57. > :09:01.He knows what's going on in his own world as well but he's on top of
:09:02. > :09:04.what Jamie is doing. I think he knows what's going on in James
:09:05. > :09:10.Ward-Prowse macro world... He seems to follow them all. In the press
:09:11. > :09:15.conference Andy was asked to comment about Jamie becoming world number
:09:16. > :09:24.one. We are probably each other's biggest fans. It was really special
:09:25. > :09:27.to watch what he has achieved. Neither of us ever would have
:09:28. > :09:35.expected this when we were growing up. Need to try and enjoy it. You've
:09:36. > :09:40.got to enjoy it and embrace it. It will probably never, ever happen
:09:41. > :09:45.again. They should make a movie. Because it is an incredible story,
:09:46. > :09:49.coming up from Dunblane, to brothers, having to travel the
:09:50. > :09:52.world, going over to Spain, it's been incredible. It has, we've
:09:53. > :09:56.learned everything as we've gone along. There's no track record of
:09:57. > :10:02.success in tennis in Scotland, nobody to learn from. It was very
:10:03. > :10:06.much learning from one stage to the next. I don't think any of us would
:10:07. > :10:11.ever, ever have imagined they would end up where they have done. Andy is
:10:12. > :10:20.right, they are each other's biggest fans and biggest critics. And also
:10:21. > :10:24.maybe they are biggest rivals. We are pretty close, really, at most
:10:25. > :10:31.things. Jamie is a really good golfer. He was better at that,
:10:32. > :10:35.football probably, probably me. And then squash and table tennis, more
:10:36. > :10:44.of the racket sports, was pretty close between the to of us. That's
:10:45. > :10:52.my recollection of it, he might say something a bit different! That's
:10:53. > :10:56.what I remember. Is he right? Yes. Jamie was a really good golfer. When
:10:57. > :11:02.they were young they used to make lists of all the sports they did
:11:03. > :11:07.from chess, Monopoly, golf, tennis, squash, Jamie Teck, and the tick,
:11:08. > :11:11.who was better at which, and add them up at the end! Jamie told a
:11:12. > :11:15.wonderful story about the boxing belt. The ones they made themselves
:11:16. > :11:21.with the glitter and the stickers and everything. Jamie made him where
:11:22. > :11:28.the woman's Belt! Where they always competitive? You used to have
:11:29. > :11:32.competitive games within the house. The weather in this country isn't
:11:33. > :11:38.great but they were always competitive from a very young age.
:11:39. > :11:42.They were. As they got a bit older, still as young kids, they were very
:11:43. > :11:46.good at creating their own games, their own rules and scoring systems.
:11:47. > :11:52.Andy was always good at changing the rules when he was losing! Talking of
:11:53. > :11:56.Andy, I bumped into him earlier today along with one of his coaches
:11:57. > :12:02.Jamie Delgado and Ivan Lendl. They seem such a close team. Yes, it's
:12:03. > :12:06.been very important, all through the journey, to have the right people
:12:07. > :12:10.around you at the right times. When you understand you're pretty much on
:12:11. > :12:13.the road for 11 months of the year, it's important that those people
:12:14. > :12:18.around you and also that they are your friends as well as being people
:12:19. > :12:21.who work with you and work for you. It's important you feel comfortable
:12:22. > :12:25.enough to talk to them about anything that is worrying you, but
:12:26. > :12:28.also people to have fun with. Because you're away from your
:12:29. > :12:36.friends and family so much of the year. I find Ivan Lendl very scary!
:12:37. > :12:42.Let's find out what he had to say. You had a group named after you at
:12:43. > :12:46.the O2 this year. Is it the best thing that's been named after you?
:12:47. > :12:50.Are there any streets named after you? I did think so but there has
:12:51. > :12:55.been a racehorse, a dog, German Shepherd. There have been quite a
:12:56. > :13:00.few. Can you give us the idea of the role you play during the morning. I
:13:01. > :13:05.pick up the balls during practice. But you speak occasionally? Before
:13:06. > :13:10.the match are you all in the locker room? We chat whenever it is
:13:11. > :13:15.appropriate, sometimes before the match or sometimes earlier in the
:13:16. > :13:21.day, it depends. Andy sets his own goals. I just tried to help him to
:13:22. > :13:25.get them. I walked past him yesterday, he won against Wawrinka
:13:26. > :13:30.and Andy played so well, I said that was impressive Ivan, wasn't it? He
:13:31. > :13:36.said, he'll have to do more than that to impress me. He's a hard task
:13:37. > :13:39.master. He's never happy, it's not a bad thing. The good thing about that
:13:40. > :13:46.is he's always looking for the things you can do better. I remember
:13:47. > :13:50.Andy playing David Ferrer in the final of Miami one year, the heat
:13:51. > :13:54.and humidity was incredible. Andy won 7-6 in the third, it was an
:13:55. > :13:59.absolute battle. Neither of them were playing that well and Andy
:14:00. > :14:04.managed to find a way to win when he was exhausted. Ivan said, that was
:14:05. > :14:09.rubbish! I said he found a way to win, he said, I don't care, it was
:14:10. > :14:16.rubbish! You have to do a lot to keep him happy! That's why Andy is
:14:17. > :14:20.on a 22 match winning streak! Everyone talks about Ivan's sense of
:14:21. > :14:26.humour. Andy enjoys it, how do you find it? He is actually a very funny
:14:27. > :14:31.guy. Before he started working with Andy I'd never met him. I couldn't
:14:32. > :14:35.imagine him smiling, ever. But he's really funny. When I changed my hair
:14:36. > :14:43.colour he said, what happened to your hair? Did you have an accident?
:14:44. > :14:47.I said, I paid for that and he said, really?! LAUGHTER I hope you gave
:14:48. > :14:51.him something back! With love you to get in touch with us here in the
:14:52. > :14:58.team. There are many ways, we'll show you on the screen. Sean said,
:14:59. > :15:04.how competitive have Andy and Jamie been about the number one status?
:15:05. > :15:10.Actually not at all. You never ever hear them comparing what they have
:15:11. > :15:14.done with each other, never. I think that goes back to a long time ago.
:15:15. > :15:18.We were in a minibus coming back from a junior tournament and Andy
:15:19. > :15:23.had just beaten Jamie and he was goading Jamie about it. At one point
:15:24. > :15:28.Jamie turned around and hit him with his this on the knuckle and he broke
:15:29. > :15:33.a nail and he still got a dodgy nail. I said, that's the message,
:15:34. > :15:39.never shout of in front of your brother -- never show. I wasn't
:15:40. > :15:45.expecting that answer! It is time to join Tim Henman and Andrew Castle.
:15:46. > :15:56.COMMENTATOR: Thank you very much indeed. Andy Murray serving to Milos
:15:57. > :16:04.Raonic. He's got a lot of records at stake here. Novak Djokovic refusing
:16:05. > :16:07.to go away. 11 finals in 12 events since May for Andy. Looking for a
:16:08. > :16:35.fifth straight tour final. Amazing stuff.
:16:36. > :16:40.Raonic has been leaping around like this, more animated than I can ever
:16:41. > :16:43.remember seeing him at the start of a match, for the past ten or 15
:16:44. > :17:01.minutes or so. He's a big guy. Earlier on a match
:17:02. > :17:04.you want to make sure your feet are moving. Probably a bit nervous as
:17:05. > :17:13.well. First-time semifinalist in the World Tour Finals.
:17:14. > :17:27.Game, Murray. First game. The coaching bench for Andy Murray,
:17:28. > :17:34.extremely well-known. A coaching bench that Milos Raonic has put
:17:35. > :17:38.together is fantastic as well. Obviously he has got a former world
:17:39. > :17:47.number one, someone who has had to move around the back of the court
:17:48. > :17:55.pretty well. Ricardo Piatti with one of the most experienced coaches on
:17:56. > :18:01.the ATP Tour. Hold your own deal and see where they go. Take a look at
:18:02. > :18:10.this delivery coming up. Fabulous serve.
:18:11. > :18:25.That's what he's about! 136 miles an hour to open up. Riccardo Piatti and
:18:26. > :18:27.Ivan Lieber was saying he can regularly hit 150 miles an hour in
:18:28. > :19:16.practice. That's where Murray is so good. Even
:19:17. > :19:21.when he's far behind the baseline he takes the pace of the first passing
:19:22. > :19:22.shot, rolls it out the opponent's feet so the opponent has to volley
:19:23. > :20:02.up. There he is again. Exactly what Tim
:20:03. > :20:10.Henman was talking about. Making Raonic play a difficult ball. Raonic
:20:11. > :20:19.has never beaten a world number one. He's had six goes, five times it was
:20:20. > :20:23.Djokovic and once Nadal. This one will be no picnic, either. He
:20:24. > :20:33.serving great but he's at 30-30 on his first service game.
:20:34. > :20:37.If this is going to be his last match of the year, he is absolutely
:20:38. > :20:59.going to go for it. Game, Raonic. Look at the animation
:21:00. > :21:03.on Raonic. Excellent approach. If he is going to make an impact against
:21:04. > :21:07.Murray he's got to be proactive, he's not just going to be able to
:21:08. > :21:12.stay on the baseline and out rally Murray. When he does come forward,
:21:13. > :21:16.if Murray hit some good shots, it's important he doesn't get
:21:17. > :21:19.discouraged. He has made some great passing shots. For Raonic to lose
:21:20. > :21:55.those points. But that is the right tactic.
:21:56. > :22:07.The shop Murray used very well against Wawrinka yesterday. Wawrinka
:22:08. > :23:01.and Raonic not the best movers at the back of the court.
:23:02. > :23:09.It's the third time they've played in London. The Wimbledon final at FW
:23:10. > :23:18.19, they had Barons Court and the Queen 's final. Just missed a ball
:23:19. > :23:20.on an overall. Which was probably the difference between a win and a
:23:21. > :23:52.loss. Game, Murray. Murray leads to- one.
:23:53. > :24:01.You can churn out numbers all day long. 45 wins from 48 matches since
:24:02. > :24:06.the French Open for Andy Murray. Everyone has their disciples, Novak
:24:07. > :24:11.Djokovic has got his fans, we're all fans really of these top players.
:24:12. > :24:17.People had said he hasn't beaten anybody in the top ten. In that
:24:18. > :24:27.wonderful run he has had. You can only beat who's in front of you.
:24:28. > :24:31.That argument has gone, quite right. You reflect again, another number,
:24:32. > :24:38.the number of ranking points between Djokovic and Murray after the French
:24:39. > :24:42.Open was 8000. For Murray to have close that gap between June and
:24:43. > :24:49.November emphasises how well he has played. The matches he lost, he did
:24:50. > :24:59.beat Nishikori at the Olympic Games. Players he's lost to work Del Potro
:25:00. > :25:08.at the Davis Cup, that was his last loss, Nishikori and Cilic. That was
:25:09. > :25:13.that the Cincinnati open. That is the form of the world number one.
:25:14. > :25:20.Raonic started the year in unbelievable form. On his first nine
:25:21. > :25:23.matches, one Brisbane, almost beat Murray at the semifinal of the
:25:24. > :25:25.Australian Open. We've got some proper quality this weekend at the
:25:26. > :26:10.O2, that's for sure. Mr Raonic is challenging the call on
:26:11. > :26:15.the left far sideline. The ball was called out. It's a horrible mess,
:26:16. > :26:20.first point of a game against a big server like this, Murray just
:26:21. > :26:30.looking to establish a foothold -- it's a horrible miss. This is the
:26:31. > :27:07.foundation the return will look for a against the monster serve.
:27:08. > :27:14.What a shot that was from Raonic. Murray played a good slice down the
:27:15. > :27:16.line. He really got across to it, got underneath the ball and created
:27:17. > :28:13.a fantastic angle. That second point was critical in
:28:14. > :28:19.this game. Raonic handling that last forehand well to get back to 15-15.
:28:20. > :28:24.If he's going to escape from the game. His legs, this is where the
:28:25. > :28:34.power comes from in his serve. No wonder he hits it hard.
:28:35. > :29:39.Solid start for Murray on serve. Played ten, 110, yet to drop a
:29:40. > :29:56.point. Our first 30- all opportunity for
:29:57. > :31:54.the Canadian player. It's easy for Murray to feel
:31:55. > :31:59.pressure on his serve, not because round itch is amazing at returns,
:32:00. > :32:16.but because if you do drop serve, that can be the set over.
:32:17. > :32:22.We have to like the tactic that he has brought to this court, the
:32:23. > :32:28.excitement, the enthusiasm and energy we talked about, leaping
:32:29. > :32:33.around, sending a positive message about himself and his chances and
:32:34. > :32:47.anything that land short will certainly get the treatment.
:32:48. > :32:54.Round itch may have lost seven times in a row to marry but with that body
:32:55. > :33:34.language, sending the signal he believes he can win.
:33:35. > :33:39.We talked a lot about Raonic's serve but he is showing he has more game
:33:40. > :34:25.than just a serve. Anything anywhere coming within
:34:26. > :34:35.range of this, he will just smack it. Hasn't taken a backward step
:34:36. > :34:57.yet. Riccardo Piatti there, brilliant coach. Break point.
:34:58. > :35:06.Now that was a heavy, heavy second serve. A big part of Murray's
:35:07. > :35:14.improvement this year, heavier service. That was gutsy, 102 mph.
:35:15. > :35:42.Could have double fault in there and lost the game but he went for it.
:35:43. > :36:03.Same again. This is strong. Advantage, Murray.
:36:04. > :36:08.Average second service speed 90 mph. That is why that extra 5% when a
:36:09. > :36:31.break went down was courageous. The ATP Tour and everyone who
:36:32. > :36:37.follows and loves tennis would love to see a Murray- Djokovic contest
:36:38. > :36:45.for world number one. That is tomorrow evening at 6pm. It is still
:36:46. > :36:50.likely to come down to that final, Novak Djokovic plane came Nishikori
:36:51. > :36:56.later, but this much, I'm most impressed with Raonic so far. Marie
:36:57. > :37:02.had to play his best. It started off in impressive form, five points in,
:37:03. > :37:07.Murray coming through that great service game and Raonic really
:37:08. > :37:13.making his intentions clear. He was looking to be proactive. We know
:37:14. > :37:17.what he can do on serve but a couple of those baseline exchanges moving
:37:18. > :37:33.well, pushing Murray around, looking to get forward. A long way to go.
:37:34. > :37:39.Some of the improvement in Andy Murray's second serve comes don't to
:37:40. > :37:45.confidence, winning a load of matches, might have moved it to the
:37:46. > :37:51.left, as he has a quick look at his notes. Somebody took a photograph
:37:52. > :38:02.and put it online. There you go, and a little bit of coloured water, we
:38:03. > :38:07.will call that, for Judy. Spent some time with Sue Barker in our studio
:38:08. > :38:12.here and now watching and made friends and family. Up and away in
:38:13. > :39:13.the gods, looking down. Three - two. Come through a seven minute service
:39:14. > :39:21.game and then enforce wings of the rack serving again. -- in four
:39:22. > :39:37.swings of the racket, you are serving again.
:39:38. > :39:49.Raonic, the first Canadian to play a Grand Slam final. David Hegarty, the
:39:50. > :39:55.new president this year of the International tennis Federation. He
:39:56. > :40:03.will be at the Davis Cup next week as a representative ink ratio. Del
:40:04. > :40:24.Potro and chill itch, the two best-known players in that time.
:40:25. > :40:33.Leon Smith taking the Great Britain team to play in the Davis Cup first
:40:34. > :40:42.round in every after the Australian Open in Ottawa, playing Canada,
:40:43. > :40:53.playing Raonic again, probably. Change of Court on the left service
:40:54. > :41:14.centreline. The ball was called out. It stands. Second serve.
:41:15. > :41:49.Mr Murray has two challenges remaining.
:41:50. > :42:35.Game, Murray. New balls, please. Talking about the Davis Cup which
:42:36. > :42:40.Great Britain won last year behind a fabulous effort from Andy Murray,
:42:41. > :42:45.Leon Smith has some other people to choose from these days. Kyle Edmund
:42:46. > :42:51.has had an exceptional year, ranking in the 40s now, one of the most
:42:52. > :42:57.improved players on tour, and Dan Evans, who got a match point against
:42:58. > :43:03.Stan Wawrinka at the US Open. A brilliant match, and that does not
:43:04. > :43:09.happen often in one tournament, so good consistency from him as well.
:43:10. > :43:13.There are reasons to be optimistic. Yes, and we shouldn't forget to
:43:14. > :43:20.focus on the women's side, with what Johanna Konta achieved, Heather
:43:21. > :43:27.Watson, Naomi Brodie. Good to see Laura Robson worker way back up into
:43:28. > :43:33.the top 100. And news from a long way away, the ITF futures circuit,
:43:34. > :43:39.which is kind of the first rung. Marcus Williams has just one in
:43:40. > :43:47.Kuwait, 18 points, not a whole load when they are playing for hundreds
:43:48. > :43:54.here but that is a good effort. There isn't really an off-season
:43:55. > :44:08.when you are right the way he is. I watched Margin Call last night. A
:44:09. > :44:20.very good film. Kevin Spacey. World number one versus the world number
:44:21. > :44:22.four. Just one break point. Settle please, behind the players. Thank
:44:23. > :45:04.you. Oh, no! No! When Murray gets those
:45:05. > :45:08.opportunities to look at second service, he has to do more with the
:45:09. > :46:21.return. That was his frustration in the middle of the court.
:46:22. > :47:40.And this will be the first game returning for Murray's serve, so
:47:41. > :47:51.that is when he likes to take out a new racket. They raced ) everyday.
:47:52. > :47:59.Probably six of them, maybe eight. Normally six 483- set match. Very
:48:00. > :48:12.tie-break sets with the ball change, that will see you through to the
:48:13. > :48:16.finish line. In the old days of satellite circuits, you could play
:48:17. > :48:27.for tournaments. It has been known for layers of my era to go through
:48:28. > :48:55.five weeks with no restraining. -- no new strings.
:48:56. > :49:13.Murray just adding a little bit of hype on a backhand in that rally,
:49:14. > :49:28.and Raonic taking advantage of that. Looks very sharp today, doesn't he?
:49:29. > :50:27.Murray not being affected by what was said there. Djokovic the other
:50:28. > :50:31.night had a time violation, that got under his skin. But he is
:50:32. > :51:18.concentrating well here. Certainly not the time to lose
:51:19. > :51:25.concentration. Still a bit rattled by that time violation. He needs to
:51:26. > :51:46.knuckle down and get down to the basics of finding the target.
:51:47. > :52:00.What the return. The ball was called in. It right back about as quickly
:52:01. > :52:07.as it was served inside the baseline. Murray faces at second
:52:08. > :52:42.break point, he had to come up with a gutsy second serve last time.
:52:43. > :52:55.His first advance to the net. 37 minutes played a break point down.
:52:56. > :52:57.Didn't want to let Raonic have a big swing at any of those shots in the
:52:58. > :54:07.rally. When Murray was break point down he
:54:08. > :54:10.was much more proactive, came into the net, he feels he had the
:54:11. > :54:39.opportunity to come forward there. A little tense, he tried to get in.
:54:40. > :54:45.The ball was called out. A forcing play, wasn't it? Credit to Raonic
:54:46. > :54:53.for the tactics that he has brought out. He is a threat at the best of
:54:54. > :55:01.times but... He stuck to his gameplay. No more challenges for
:55:02. > :55:06.Murray, who is known as a bit of a wasteful challenger at times. He
:55:07. > :55:08.doesn't have any close calls. He will get another one if they go to a
:55:09. > :55:29.tie-break. Break point, though. Oh, dear, Raonic wants stop one
:55:30. > :55:42.back. And it's a little bit pokey at the
:55:43. > :55:50.net. That one was a bit safe as well. You felt on that approach shot
:55:51. > :55:55.from Raonic he had to move his feet up to the ball a little bit more.
:55:56. > :56:12.Murray still had to get past the big man at the net.
:56:13. > :56:19.Third break point of this game, fourth off the set. Advantage,
:56:20. > :57:24.Raonic. Felt like Raonic could pull the
:57:25. > :57:29.trigger at any moment on those ground strokes. He held back. You
:57:30. > :57:34.could feel the tension from both players in those rallies, Murray
:57:35. > :57:38.trying to keep the ball out of the middle of the court, Raonic waiting
:57:39. > :58:14.for the right time to pull the trigger.
:58:15. > :00:27.Three break points saved. Damien might come in for a little bit of
:00:28. > :00:33.grief now for giving him a time violation at the second point. The
:00:34. > :00:40.bottom line is, that was a bit cold. If he could win a couple of points
:00:41. > :00:45.in the next game, Raonic will field the disappointment of missing his
:00:46. > :00:49.opportunities. Yes, he did well to create those opportunities that
:00:50. > :00:53.never really made anything happen on the bright points themselves, and
:00:54. > :01:04.Murray will be relieved to get through that game.
:01:05. > :01:10.Raonic is 25 years old and the first player from his country to reach the
:01:11. > :01:14.singles semifinals here. He came over to Canada as a three-year-old
:01:15. > :01:18.with his parents who were in search of better jobs and a more secure
:01:19. > :01:24.lifestyle in Canada than they enjoyed in Montenegro. Tennis
:01:25. > :01:27.facilities were much better as well, although he had to get up early in
:01:28. > :01:32.the morning. They didn't have a lot of money so had to take the courts
:01:33. > :01:43.when they were available and at the right price, cheaper. His continued
:01:44. > :01:49.improvement sees him in with a shout here but to win here he'll have to
:01:50. > :01:57.beat the world's top two, back to back. Murray has to do just as well
:01:58. > :02:02.as Novak Djokovic to retain his world number one spot. Later on
:02:03. > :02:07.Novak is in action. So we won't know anything for sure about the year-end
:02:08. > :03:42.world number one ranking until after tonight's match.
:03:43. > :03:50.For the most part there is a positivity to it that in the first
:03:51. > :03:55.part of his career was missing. He used to fall apart, his game would
:03:56. > :04:00.if that started happening. The other day against Nishikori he came
:04:01. > :04:01.through that three hour 20 minute match. Talking through every single
:04:02. > :04:32.point. It's just a constant dialogue
:04:33. > :04:41.really, it's not conducive to the positive mindset. I think where he
:04:42. > :04:42.has improved, after years and years, is not letting it spill-over into
:04:43. > :05:18.next point. Raonic only dropped five points on
:05:19. > :07:43.his serve in five service games. Not the same story for Murray.
:07:44. > :07:54.A couple of big misses therefore Murray. Raonic asking the question
:07:55. > :08:20.again, more break points and this time two in a row.
:08:21. > :08:28.And there is the breakthrough. The pressure tells a third game. Raonic
:08:29. > :08:36.was looking to climb on the second serve this time. Murray can't find
:08:37. > :08:41.his way out of it. Well played from Raonic who has to serve it out.
:08:42. > :08:45.Murray has defined a big effort here from somewhere. The last 15 minutes
:08:46. > :08:59.or so, Raonic has been good for this lead. He's been getting stuck into
:09:00. > :09:02.Murray 's service game. Only winning 54% of points when his first serve
:09:03. > :09:08.goes then compare to 79 on the second serve. It'll be interesting
:09:09. > :09:19.to see Raonic's approach in the next game. That's what has nominated the
:09:20. > :09:23.five service games he's had so far, again, it's important that he
:09:24. > :09:24.focuses on that process and doesn't suddenly start thinking about the
:09:25. > :09:43.position he's in. Raonic is trying to finish eight
:09:44. > :09:51.career-best -- as a career-best three in the world. Just that one
:09:52. > :09:57.title this year for Milos Raonic. This would be the biggest win of his
:09:58. > :10:01.career, of course. A breakthrough year, a first Grand Slam final, and
:10:02. > :10:07.he can take a step toward Sunday evening's final here, with a hold of
:10:08. > :11:04.serve. This serve moves awfully quickly.
:11:05. > :11:54.Absolutely textbook so far from Raonic. Two first serves.
:11:55. > :12:13.This is beautiful tennis from Raonic. It really is. Comfortable
:12:14. > :12:16.from the back of the court. Massive at the service line, the man who
:12:17. > :13:47.beat Federer at Wimbledon this year. Three set points.
:13:48. > :13:56.It's a lovely change of direction, a slightly higher forehand down the
:13:57. > :14:00.line from Murray. Raonic will be looking for a first serve, here. Two
:14:01. > :14:26.set points have gone begging. Gets the job done, just approaching
:14:27. > :14:30.an hour. Murray will have to fight back from a set down. This was
:14:31. > :14:35.supposed to be a celebration of Andy and Jamie Murray this weekend but it
:14:36. > :14:40.is not panning out just at the moment, Sue. STUDIO: We remember he
:14:41. > :14:44.dropped the opening set final in Queen's as well. Although Raonic is
:14:45. > :14:48.playing incredibly well, Murray hates to lose. He certainly won't go
:14:49. > :14:51.down without a fight. We've been following the world rankings, that's
:14:52. > :14:57.what it's all about in this season-ending championships. Murray
:14:58. > :15:02.ahead of Djokovic, that's what he needs to do if he's to stay as world
:15:03. > :15:07.number one. Milos Raonic, there's 400 points for a semifinal win and
:15:08. > :15:11.he has moved this week ahead of Wawrinka. He wants to finish as
:15:12. > :15:15.world number three. Kei Nishikori will be playing Djokovic in the
:15:16. > :15:22.other semifinal tonight. He also has a of finishing as number three.
:15:23. > :15:26.We've taken of the 275 points Murray will have deducted because of the
:15:27. > :15:30.Davis Cup final. It's very tight at the top, it's all about Murray and
:15:31. > :15:37.Djokovic but Marin Cilic has moved up to number six so he will end the
:15:38. > :15:45.season high of number six as he heads off to the Davis Cup. So, we
:15:46. > :15:55.look ahead to the final. Murray or Raonic, Djokovic or no security. --
:15:56. > :16:00.or Nishikori. Please get in touch with us on social media if you want
:16:01. > :16:04.to. There are many ways you can get in touch. We'll put them on the
:16:05. > :16:14.screen now. Tell us what you think about Murray's match and how good
:16:15. > :16:19.Raonic is playing. He has a real battle on his hands because he knows
:16:20. > :16:26.Djokovic is in the driving seat with Kei Nishikori having played two very
:16:27. > :16:30.long 3-set matches. That's the semifinal tonight, but Murray needs
:16:31. > :16:36.to keep his hopes alive. Can he find a way into this match against
:16:37. > :16:41.Raonic? Back to Tim and Andy. COMMENTATOR: We've seen a run of
:16:42. > :16:46.seven straight loss sets since that Queen's final for Raonic. He's
:16:47. > :16:50.snapped back and got a set lead. 15 straight wins in the City of London
:16:51. > :16:55.for Andy Murray. That record is under threat. 22 wins in a row as
:16:56. > :17:04.well. He'll be thinking about nothing apart from trying to get the
:17:05. > :17:09.ball back into play and break the Raonic serve. A new match from this
:17:10. > :17:13.point of view as far as Murray is concerned. He's got to win the next
:17:14. > :17:45.two set to get to tomorrow night's final.
:17:46. > :17:51.I don't think there has to be a dramatic change of plan for Murray,
:17:52. > :17:56.he just had to stop playing better, he's also got to hope his opponent's
:17:57. > :17:59.levels drop. Raonic very impressive in the first set, only lost seven
:18:00. > :18:32.points on serve. That's where Murray can be more
:18:33. > :18:37.aggressive. Raonic did well to chip it back in. Six feet inside the
:18:38. > :18:41.baseline with a short forehand. He hit the forehand crosscourt and run
:18:42. > :18:41.backwards, gave Raonic an opportunity to establish himself in
:18:42. > :19:30.the point. A lovely touch, isn't it? It looked
:19:31. > :19:32.like it was going to be a drive again, Murray slightly off the
:19:33. > :20:31.playing surface, coming underneath the ball, plenty of slice under it.
:20:32. > :20:34.He's got a whole corporation down there, a whole company to pay. The
:20:35. > :21:00.boss. You don't want too many of these at
:21:01. > :21:51.30-30, do you? Raonic the one showing good
:21:52. > :21:55.defensive skills, there. Murray hitting a good approach shot but
:21:56. > :22:16.Raonic using a long reach to flick that back down at Murray's feet.
:22:17. > :22:22.It's only the first game of the second set but in the context of
:22:23. > :22:28.this match, very, very important game to win. Huge contrast in
:22:29. > :22:50.points. Do you think Novak Djokovic might be
:22:51. > :22:57.watching this with a bit of interest? Maybe following it on the
:22:58. > :22:59.app. I wouldn't be surprised if he knows the score, I wouldn't
:23:00. > :23:08.necessarily say he's sitting watching it. Raonic, first shot
:23:09. > :23:13.after the serve... He's getting his forehand into play, that's what
:23:14. > :23:17.that's telling you. So he's serving intelligently, getting a decent
:23:18. > :23:24.percentage of first serves in. He is moving his feet well to get his
:23:25. > :23:25.forehand to play on the first shot. We'll see if he can follow that
:23:26. > :25:26.pattern. I was just thinking, has Murray ever
:25:27. > :25:33.played a match where he hasn't had a break point opportunity? There was a
:25:34. > :25:44.match against Federer, here in 2014 where he got pretty duffed. Very
:25:45. > :25:48.rare, though. That was just one of those operations back then. It was
:25:49. > :25:56.just one of those days where Roger was incredible indoors. Even then
:25:57. > :25:58.Murray came back to play an exhibition set against Novak when
:25:59. > :26:00.Federer couldn't take the court after his semifinal win over
:26:01. > :26:33.Wawrinka. See the tension coming out, one hour
:26:34. > :27:08.ten minutes in. How badly do you think he wants it?
:27:09. > :27:15.Credit where credit 's due, Raonic in a tricky spot, there. Second
:27:16. > :28:07.serve at deuce, still had the courage to move forward.
:28:08. > :28:17.Concentration from Raonic is difficult now. Here's the point Tim
:28:18. > :28:21.Henman was talking about. Raonic just rushing a little bit. He needs
:28:22. > :28:24.one of these massive first serves, get the ball up in the air, use your
:28:25. > :28:50.height. It's all gone a little low. Big miss. He didn't move his seat
:28:51. > :28:52.for the second forehand. Wanting to go for it but wasn't in the right
:28:53. > :29:37.position. -- didn't move his feet. Murray 17 points on serve in the
:29:38. > :29:40.first set. He's trying to win six in this game. -- Murray won seven
:29:41. > :30:06.points on serve in the first set. Sprayed the forehand on the first
:30:07. > :30:11.break point. Must have been 15, 20 feet out, backhand, middle of the
:30:12. > :30:18.net! Two of the worst shots he's probably hit in the last six months.
:30:19. > :31:29.You can't challenge a let. Certainly was a deep second serve.
:31:30. > :31:31.If Murray has challenged. We've just seen in our studio right on the back
:31:32. > :32:27.edge of the line. It really does look like work today,
:32:28. > :32:47.doesn't it, for Murray? And Raonic, to his eternal credit,
:32:48. > :32:53.comes out of the game despite playing poorly a couple of times
:32:54. > :32:58.himself. Nine minutes, that one. Two break points save and his only lost
:32:59. > :33:04.serve twice. All week. If he keeps that record going, that's the best.
:33:05. > :33:08.He has served 44 aces, which is also an event high. They were very
:33:09. > :33:56.strange misses. UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the
:33:57. > :34:15.ball. The ball was called out. Mr Murray has two challenges
:34:16. > :35:05.remaining. A bit early in the set to bother
:35:06. > :37:19.with those stats. On a number of occasions, Raonic has
:37:20. > :37:23.done that very well. He has stayed in the point. He has been very
:37:24. > :37:28.patient. He has got the opportunity, he looked to be aggressive. Murray,
:37:29. > :37:48.the one coming up with the unforced error.
:37:49. > :38:00.Well, a drop shot volley combination against somebody 6-foot five, to
:38:01. > :38:06.stave off a break point, this is living dangerously now for Murray.
:38:07. > :38:11.Over the past few weeks, his one four tournament in a row. He is
:38:12. > :39:11.going to have to fight hard here. He is.
:39:12. > :39:20.And it's another mistake. A deep return from Raonic. Another break of
:39:21. > :39:25.serve. 5-5 in the first set. Here's a set and a break up in the match
:39:26. > :39:29.and he is the one maintaining his composure. That positive body
:39:30. > :39:33.language is poured out onto this court. He is being rewarded for
:39:34. > :39:38.excellent play. Very, very impressed. I have not seen Raonic
:39:39. > :39:45.act like this on a court many times and you wonder how much more Murray
:39:46. > :39:50.has got. With Kei Nishikori early in the week, has got enough to come
:39:51. > :39:55.back? Yes, I think he has, but we have said so many times this year,
:39:56. > :40:01.and in Murray's career, he has found a way to get through that and win.
:40:02. > :40:04.He has done that this week against Nishikori and you just wonder
:40:05. > :40:09.whether this is one match too far. He was a set and match down and now
:40:10. > :40:15.he's got to draw on those positives, those memories to keep the belief he
:40:16. > :40:22.can turn it around the but, at this moment in time, would Raonic playing
:40:23. > :40:33.this quality of ten edge, Raonic is in the driving seat. -- with Raonic
:40:34. > :40:38.playing this quality of tennis, Raonic is in the driving seat. Gerry
:40:39. > :40:54.Armstrong in the background. Jimmy Carr.
:40:55. > :41:03.People still piling back into their seats. This is the first changeover
:41:04. > :41:05.where they have actually sat down after the set change, said people
:41:06. > :41:16.have gone out and come back in a game. Chris, alongside his wife
:41:17. > :41:20.Adele. Long-suffering, I should say! Fantastic staging of this event, the
:41:21. > :41:35.music and the lighting. UMPIRE: Is it quickly, please. The
:41:36. > :41:42.players are you. -- sit quickly on please. Here's a big fellow to get
:41:43. > :43:34.that far down, isn't he? He is doing well not to spill those pints.
:43:35. > :43:46.Four straight points. There is the answer. Raonic is clearly into
:43:47. > :43:51.charitable giving, one has to say, because those first two points,
:43:52. > :43:55.forehand Mrs, perhaps the other quick look at the winning line. And
:43:56. > :44:15.got a little bit scared. -- misses. That is a luck that you could
:44:16. > :44:22.trademark, isn't it? -- luck. It's a response you have come to expect.
:44:23. > :44:27.Talk about Murray having to draw on those memories of set and a break
:44:28. > :45:00.down and coming back. Raonic will be thinking about that, as well.
:45:01. > :45:09.The other close matches they played, the semifinal of the Australian Open
:45:10. > :45:12.this year. 2-1. Raonic was up. He won his first nine matches of the
:45:13. > :45:45.year. Murray picked him off. It is the beauty of a scoring system
:45:46. > :45:50.in tennis. There is Raonic up a set and a break thinking his writing
:45:51. > :45:55.control of this match. Six points later, Murray has changed the
:45:56. > :46:41.momentum. Eight straight points for Andy
:46:42. > :46:49.Murray as he fights his way back into the semifinal. Of the World
:46:50. > :46:57.Tour Finals. I have to say I didn't expect that. God goods odds on eight
:46:58. > :47:02.straight points on the last change of ends. A good response and it's
:47:03. > :47:05.what we've come to expect. He is so resilient. He finds himself in a
:47:06. > :47:12.whole, down a set in the break against one of the best service in
:47:13. > :47:16.the game, and... In the space of a couple of minutes, you feel like
:47:17. > :47:20.he's got the opportunity of regaining the momentum in this set.
:47:21. > :47:24.The first two points of this next game, really important because
:47:25. > :47:34.Raonic has had what he came out here for. It's been taken away from him
:47:35. > :47:39.in the last six minutes or so. His start to the game, where he had the
:47:40. > :47:46.break, was poor. Murray did the right thing, knocking him back into
:47:47. > :48:03.play. That takes some skill. Raonic on his big wraparound forehand.
:48:04. > :48:06.Looked like they have scratched Henman off the front of those
:48:07. > :48:29.T-shirts and put on Murray. Wonderful arena as here. -- out
:48:30. > :48:34.here. Once it got into private and commercial hands, it became the most
:48:35. > :50:22.successful venue in Great Britain. It stages tennis magnificently.
:50:23. > :50:32.Nothing wrong with the approach shot. Deep into the corner. Murray
:50:33. > :50:36.able to flip that wrist and use his left hand to drag the ball across
:50:37. > :51:37.the court. Flicked across the top of the net, as well.
:51:38. > :51:46.He is reeling them in now, isn't he? It is a different type of hitting
:51:47. > :51:52.from Murray. In the first set, much more passive on the baseline
:51:53. > :51:55.exchanges. When he beat Stan Wawrinka, he was really crushing his
:51:56. > :51:57.two-handed backhand crosscourt. You can hear by the sound of it, he is
:51:58. > :52:27.stepping up the pace. It's gone from a plastic cup to a
:52:28. > :52:37.wine glass, Andrew. Yes, can't be easy. Watching a loved one play
:52:38. > :52:57.sport. I know, watching your kid do anything.
:52:58. > :53:25.He has won 12 of the last 15 points. Since losing his serve.
:53:26. > :53:32.UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the ball on the right centre service
:53:33. > :53:36.line. The ball was called in. Murray is going to like the look of this.
:53:37. > :53:47.Second serve. Second service. Such a good addition to the game,
:53:48. > :54:08.Hawk-Eye. Oh, what a half-volley that was!
:54:09. > :54:14.Flicked back crosscourt asks a very severe question. That was handled
:54:15. > :54:17.magnificently by Raonic. Djokovic had a similar one in early on this
:54:18. > :54:23.week in the tie-break against the same manner. I wonder if he learned
:54:24. > :54:27.the lesson here? Seriously, for a guy six and a half feet tall, not
:54:28. > :54:43.known for his great touch, that really was superb.
:54:44. > :54:58.Good effort. Got it in the right place. Raonic did all he could, but
:54:59. > :55:02.there's no way Murray should've missed the backhand down the line.
:55:03. > :55:40.He would make that 99 out of 100. Murray is just on this opponent now,
:55:41. > :55:44.he really is. Every short ball, we hardly saw him come in in the first
:55:45. > :55:47.set. Didn't get a look in on Raonic's serve in the first set. A
:55:48. > :56:30.lot of long games. What a lovely piece of tennis that
:56:31. > :56:49.was. Not the result a British crowd would want but that was quality.
:56:50. > :56:55.Season-ending championships, two groups of four. Just eight players
:56:56. > :56:59.in the competition. The two top players of each group advancing to
:57:00. > :57:04.the semifinals. This is the first of those two. Later on, Nishikori
:57:05. > :59:10.versus Djokovic. BBC Radio five Live sports extra for that.
:59:11. > :59:14.UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the call on the near left sideline. The
:59:15. > :59:33.ball was called out. Mr Murray has one challenge
:59:34. > :00:16.remaining. Fine margins. Didn't find a touch on
:00:17. > :00:19.this one coming up. Just on the baseline, that one. Murray made him
:00:20. > :00:20.play a difficult ball and those are the hands who are more likely to see
:00:21. > :01:16.from Raonic. Jane, Murray. -- game, Murray.
:01:17. > :01:21.Murray leads 4-3. He's a player who will make you play a difficult ball.
:01:22. > :01:26.He was like that from the word go. You played him quite early, didn't
:01:27. > :01:33.you? Yes I did. For me who was someone trying to come to the net a
:01:34. > :01:37.lot he was difficult play against. Because he didn't always try and win
:01:38. > :01:42.the point with the first passing shot. That something he's done well
:01:43. > :01:47.against Raonic. He had a lot of good approach shots, where Murray hasn't
:01:48. > :01:54.been able to stand in and hit a passing shot winner, so he's been
:01:55. > :01:59.able to roll the ball low. How old was he when you played him in a
:02:00. > :02:08.tournament? The first time I played him was in Basel. I would say that
:02:09. > :02:13.was 2006, maybe. He must have known then about the physical side of the
:02:14. > :02:20.game and how he was going to approach things. His physical work
:02:21. > :02:26.is what has taken him to the very top. Absolutely. One of the areas
:02:27. > :02:33.that the perception that he struggled with was, was his fitness.
:02:34. > :02:42.Because he was so young, he hadn't had the opportunity to do enough of
:02:43. > :02:47.a strength and conditioning work. He was still maturing. When he had
:02:48. > :02:50.problems with cramp and struggled in five sets in slams people thought he
:02:51. > :02:59.was doing the work but that wasn't true. It takes years to do that work
:03:00. > :03:04.which is why you're unlikely to see a 17 or 18-year-old Grand Slam
:03:05. > :04:13.champion on the men's side, for a long time to come.
:04:14. > :04:24.Perfect service game. He's still only lost his serve three times this
:04:25. > :04:41.week. Victories over Gael Monfils and
:04:42. > :04:48.Dominic Thiem. He lost a Novak Djokovic. Murray won his.
:04:49. > :05:08.Undefeated, three in a row. I really think Murray is one of the
:05:09. > :05:12.best volley is in the game in the singles game. For me it's a tactic
:05:13. > :05:18.he could use a little bit more. Doesn't need to start serving and
:05:19. > :05:19.volleying but could look to attack from the baseline when he gets those
:05:20. > :05:55.opportunities. He's number one in the world right
:05:56. > :06:22.now, but there's an element I feel he could improve on.
:06:23. > :07:49.He's already lost his serve in this set. Managed to break back.
:07:50. > :08:01.A breaking backhand down the line and it gets the big man moving, he
:08:02. > :08:05.can't handle it. A holed from 30-30. Just beginning to get into that
:08:06. > :08:10.phase of the match, approaching to hours, where the body changes, the
:08:11. > :08:16.mind changes a little bit. The patterns are set on court. It's
:08:17. > :08:20.really a contest between the two. Murray has been made to work hard in
:08:21. > :08:24.this tournament. We talked about the Nishikori match, three hours and 20
:08:25. > :08:28.minutes, the longest match in history at this event. You wonder
:08:29. > :08:34.how much Murray has left in the tank. Raonic had the thigh problem
:08:35. > :08:38.that he had to pull out in the semifinals in Paris against Murray.
:08:39. > :08:41.How many days did he miss on the practice court and in the gym coming
:08:42. > :08:45.into this tournament, how much has he got left in the tank? Because
:08:46. > :08:55.this is a physically demanding match. Certainly covering a lot of
:08:56. > :09:00.ground out there. The court is quite quick this year, players saying the
:09:01. > :09:04.conditions are quite speedy. It is felt warmer. It felt slightly warmer
:09:05. > :09:08.earlier on in the week than now, in here. That makes the ball quite
:09:09. > :09:14.lively because the air in the ball warms up. Ideal playing conditions
:09:15. > :09:21.and both players fully played in. Djokovic Nishikori later. Murray
:09:22. > :09:33.reading his notes which he keeps well hidden. Just little reminders
:09:34. > :09:38.of what his thoughts were and perhaps his coach's thoughts were
:09:39. > :09:42.going out there. The ideal tactics. Remember to move your feet, get it
:09:43. > :09:46.to his backhand if you can. Don't be afraid to come in. Work. This could
:09:47. > :09:58.be your last match of the year. It's probably a reminder to get some
:09:59. > :11:50.milk on the way home! Probably the best return in the
:11:51. > :12:25.game, he can't afford to miss those second serves.
:12:26. > :12:39.Ouch! Brilliant rally! Just under 70 metres of running, there. For
:12:40. > :13:32.Murray. For Raonic just under 60. Well of course the camera largely
:13:33. > :13:39.spends its time on Murray, he serve expressive today. But Raonic,
:13:40. > :13:43.fabulous hold of serve. To be drawn into the net, to play it with
:13:44. > :13:50.control and then to continue to win the point... And his movement for a
:13:51. > :13:51.big guy at the back of the court, he's really been able to stay in the
:13:52. > :14:26.rallies and trade with Murray. Raonic just having a little look
:14:27. > :14:31.back at the line for the first serves. You'd have to stop
:14:32. > :17:06.straightaway if you're going to challenge.
:17:07. > :17:26.You have to do trust your technique to hit that ball. Solid.
:17:27. > :19:26.Not the most orthodox of follow-through is.
:19:27. > :19:35.No challenge from Raonic who had a pretty good view as it went by at
:19:36. > :20:03.128 miles an hour. Just caught the outside edge.
:20:04. > :20:08.That was fortunate because he had just a little bit off backspin on
:20:09. > :20:18.it. Normally the backspin will act on the top of the and take it down.
:20:19. > :20:30.-- on the top of the net, and take it down.
:20:31. > :20:39.Kevin Spacey and Annabel Croft. Game point again, Murray. It's a big
:20:40. > :20:46.fight at the moment, isn't it? As much with himself as with his
:20:47. > :20:48.opponent. Trying to find the energy reserves that will get him through
:20:49. > :21:36.this set. APPLAUSE
:21:37. > :21:41.That was a right old scrap but Murray comes through it. When you
:21:42. > :21:45.start talking about energy levels, you start realising this is the 11th
:21:46. > :21:48.month and they've been out there since just after Christmas,
:21:49. > :21:53.preparing for the Australian Open. It is a long season, you've got to
:21:54. > :21:57.know how to do the year schedule correctly. Murray this year has won
:21:58. > :22:03.by a margin more matches than any other player. He's won 76 matches.
:22:04. > :22:09.Raonic has won 52 and he's number five in the list. Djokovic has one
:22:10. > :22:15.64. A dozen more matches for Murray at this stage is remarkable. Eight
:22:16. > :22:22.titles for Murray, Djokovic seven. Raonic just one. He's putting the
:22:23. > :22:26.miles in after the Davis Cup as well, and he became a dad on top of
:22:27. > :22:37.everything. What a year. And don't forget the Olympic Games! Amazing.
:22:38. > :22:42.He must be enjoying his tennis. This man is trying to get to world number
:22:43. > :22:46.three. Has his performance surprised you today? It has. We all know about
:22:47. > :22:51.his serve but the way he's been able to stay in the rallies from the back
:22:52. > :22:55.of the court, his movement, his variation, how he's looked to come
:22:56. > :22:59.forward, he's played a fantastic match. It is emphasised by the
:23:00. > :23:04.second set, 11 games indoors with one of the biggest server in the
:23:05. > :23:15.game. 67 minutes. You knows there's got to be long rallies, long games.
:23:16. > :23:17.Raonic needs to do a good job here of staying in this second set.
:23:18. > :23:45.Trying to force the tie-break. Prior to this match Murray had won
:23:46. > :23:56.21 of the 30 sets they'd played. But Raonic had 14-macro of the seven
:23:57. > :24:17.tie-breaks. -- Raonic had won four of the seven tie-breaks.
:24:18. > :24:20.Notably Murray won two of his tie-breaks in the Wimbledon final,
:24:21. > :25:52.which isn't a bad place to win them. Six games all, tie-break. Both
:25:53. > :26:40.players receive one additional challenge.
:26:41. > :26:46.I think Raonic changed his mind there, he's coming down the line so
:26:47. > :26:50.many times very effectively. Suddenly decided to go crosscourt,
:26:51. > :26:52.made the unforced error. You don't want to be making unforced errors at
:26:53. > :27:41.this stage of the set. It's another poor decision there
:27:42. > :27:45.from Raonic. Behind the baseline in the middle of the court, trying to
:27:46. > :28:00.hit and of backhand over the high part of the net. Two unforced
:28:01. > :28:07.errors. Mr Murray challenging the call on the left service centreline.
:28:08. > :28:19.The ball was called in. No problem with the serve down the middle. It's
:28:20. > :29:12.a line cleaner. Mr Murray has one challenge remaining.
:29:13. > :29:22.You're joking! That takes some racket skills. The control of the
:29:23. > :29:35.racket head here, just brings the racket head back towards his shins.
:29:36. > :29:43.This was gorgeous. Meant to hit eight clean winner, fair enough. You
:29:44. > :29:51.can't teach this. That's one of the shots of the week. Mr Murray
:29:52. > :29:52.challenging the call on the left service line, the ball was called
:29:53. > :30:15.in. Mr Murray has no more challenges.
:30:16. > :30:20.He'll get another challenge when they change ends, if they change
:30:21. > :30:30.ends again. After 12 points, I think. Is that right? Tell me the
:30:31. > :30:36.rules! I think they just get an extra one in the tie-break. I think
:30:37. > :30:37.if they play along set they get an extra challenge later on in a long
:30:38. > :31:17.set. We're supposed to know! Laidlaw desperately trying to hang
:31:18. > :32:28.on. He currently holds the world one ranking.
:32:29. > :32:35.Two or three of these balls strop little bit short. You have to credit
:32:36. > :32:43.him for taking it on. His forehand deep into the corner set that up.
:32:44. > :32:48.Back on serve. Three points from a place in the final. And he is
:32:49. > :33:18.serving the next two of those. Did well to hold his nerve here. Top
:33:19. > :33:57.of the net. It was point over from there.
:33:58. > :34:06.Just pure instinct from Andy Murray. Seized his opportunity to move
:34:07. > :34:16.forward. Executed the forehand volley perfectly.
:34:17. > :34:38.I think by the sounds of this crowd they want some more tennis.
:34:39. > :34:50.Andy Murray makes it one set all. We are in for another long one year. He
:34:51. > :34:56.was set and a break down as he was in the at Queen's but his back on
:34:57. > :35:06.level terms. Still looking for a place in the World Tour Finals. What
:35:07. > :35:09.a fighter he is, Andy Murray and we have never set to look forward to.
:35:10. > :35:15.The tennis has been of the highest quality. Great drama here and we
:35:16. > :35:18.were due to close over programme at 4:30pm but for now we are staying
:35:19. > :35:24.with the tennis. We're not going anywhere right now. We will stay
:35:25. > :35:31.with the tennis here on BBC Two. Some of the numbers from the set.
:35:32. > :35:38.One hour and 20 minutes. A set and a break down but with a lot of spirit
:35:39. > :35:45.and a lot of instinct, that five all point was absolutely crucial. He
:35:46. > :35:51.just played the point. The point is all about the matchplay. He knew
:35:52. > :35:59.there were couple of moments before when Milos Raonic could set forward.
:36:00. > :36:03.He got the return back in play and got the opportunity to move forward
:36:04. > :36:10.and played such a good forehand volley to set up the set point. And
:36:11. > :36:20.that after the disappointment of the net call Milos Raonic had benefited
:36:21. > :36:29.from. He could have let it go. He looked so upset and so cross with
:36:30. > :36:37.himself. He is hanging on. It is his will to win and some shots like that
:36:38. > :36:43.got him back into the match. As soon as that set was Finis -- finished
:36:44. > :36:51.Milos Raonic picked up a new shirt and his left the court and Andy
:36:52. > :36:57.Murray decided not to sit on the court I himself. He has decided to
:36:58. > :37:04.take a bathroom break. He has won in Beijing and Shanghai recently and in
:37:05. > :37:09.Vienna and Paris as well. He has ascended to world the board. He has
:37:10. > :37:17.a couple of matches left. He still can't get rid of Novak Djokovic at
:37:18. > :37:22.the top of the ranking. Let's take a look at that 5-5 point. An
:37:23. > :37:26.absolutely crucial moment. The second serve got him into the rally.
:37:27. > :37:33.Milos Raonic dropped the ball short. Money came in and it's not an easy
:37:34. > :37:38.volley. When the ball is dropping and it got a bit of slice on it you
:37:39. > :37:42.have to play with a slice volley yourself and it's easy to drag it
:37:43. > :37:49.into the net but he got underneath it and gave himself the set point.
:37:50. > :37:59.There is nobody better out there at Follies at the at the moment. Andy's
:38:00. > :38:12.volleys are excellent. Novak Djokovic is never particularly happy
:38:13. > :38:24.volleying. Andy looks very natural. Certainly in the top 20 Andy Murray
:38:25. > :38:31.is by far the best volley. He is nothing but trouble. Shouting over
:38:32. > :38:35.to his bench a list rates how competitive the man is and you have
:38:36. > :38:41.to have that. It is when it destroys your game it doesn't work. But for
:38:42. > :38:44.the most part it has been very positive this week, the outcomes
:38:45. > :38:51.have. He is not out of the woods yet. But with this momentum you
:38:52. > :39:00.would think Andy Murray would be able to strike and go-ahead but we
:39:01. > :39:04.will see. It seems like it has been a lengthy delay and it's not always
:39:05. > :39:12.easy to come out and serve that first service game. Andy Murray
:39:13. > :39:20.trying to become the fourth player since 2004 to finish the year as
:39:21. > :39:28.world than the one. You know who the other three are. The great trio of
:39:29. > :39:37.players we have enjoyed. Roger Federer then Rafael Nadal then Novak
:39:38. > :39:49.Djokovic. Andy Murray is vying to be number one at the end of the year. A
:39:50. > :39:51.true measure of greatness in tennis. Of court for three minutes and 40
:39:52. > :41:30.seconds. A fresh shirt. That is a commendable response to
:41:31. > :41:33.all the noise and excitement at the end of that tie-break and the
:41:34. > :41:43.disappointment of not getting over the line. An advantage to serve
:41:44. > :41:46.first. Only if you hold. And if you can hold your first couple of
:41:47. > :41:53.service games to keep your nose in front you can build the pressure and
:41:54. > :41:57.the opponent is always trying to play catch-up. That gets harder as
