0:00:18 > 0:00:232017 has been a remarkable year of tennis. Two legends once again rose

0:00:23 > 0:00:28to the top of the men's game. What a champion here at Wimbledon. Nadal is

0:00:28 > 0:00:36the top man. ... Now, in the final event of the season, four men have

0:00:36 > 0:00:40the final trophy in their sights. Can Roger Federer end an exceptional

0:00:40 > 0:00:46year with his seventh ATP Finals trophy? In his way, David Goffin,

0:00:46 > 0:00:54who has had the season of his life. Can Grigor Dimitrov overcome the

0:00:54 > 0:00:59American Jack Sock? Is the battle for tournament glory, the last

0:00:59 > 0:01:08chance to write a winning chapter. Good afternoon. Semifinals day here

0:01:08 > 0:01:13at the Nitto ATP Finals, but it's another player, Andy Murray, who has

0:01:13 > 0:01:17been making headlines, and we'll talk more about that in a moment.

0:01:17 > 0:01:22First, back to today, the final four, familiar face, Roger Federer,

0:01:22 > 0:01:26but three first timers, and a chance to make a breakthrough.Arguably the

0:01:26 > 0:01:30best tennis this week has been plagued by Dimitrov, who was

0:01:30 > 0:01:34sensational last night. It's a match which isn't supposed to mean

0:01:34 > 0:01:39anything, and it produced great entertainment. He has been playing

0:01:39 > 0:01:44great, Jack Sock can't lose it when he tries, Goffin was brilliant

0:01:44 > 0:01:48against Thiem, and Federer is the favourite. You've got to think that

0:01:48 > 0:01:55Roger will have too much. Probably a Federer, Dimitrov final, but Will

0:01:55 > 0:01:58Stevens.Goffin was saying he's got to try and find the key to beat

0:01:58 > 0:02:06Roger. -- but we'll see theyou don't find that speed off forehand

0:02:06 > 0:02:10lying around too often, but I think it will be difficult for Goffin. He

0:02:10 > 0:02:14will be thrilled to be through to the semifinals of this event for the

0:02:14 > 0:02:18first time, and he's got to have an attitude of nothing to lose, to go

0:02:18 > 0:02:22out and go for everything. He's not going to just keep the ball in play

0:02:22 > 0:02:26and expect Federer to miss. He's got to make things happen. As much as we

0:02:26 > 0:02:32try and put a game plan forward for Goffin, I can only see one winner.

0:02:32 > 0:02:37Federer's Serb, it may not be the fastest, but the placement, he will

0:02:37 > 0:02:43not get the chance to be aggressive and -- Federer's serve.He beat

0:02:43 > 0:02:49David Goffin a couple of weeks ago in but Goffin, with the Davis Cup

0:02:49 > 0:02:52coming up, hats off to him. He could have come here and said, I want to

0:02:52 > 0:02:57hold back my energy. He hasn't. He is so talented. It will be

0:02:57 > 0:03:01fascinating to see what he does today.

0:03:36 > 0:03:44Ladies and gentlemen, making a record 15th appearance, the six time

0:03:44 > 0:03:48champion, with 95 titles, including a record 19 Grand Slam trophies and

0:03:48 > 0:03:5627 ATP Masters 1000s, the 2017 Australian Open and Wimbledon

0:03:56 > 0:03:57champion, from Switzerland, Roger Federer!

0:03:57 > 0:04:03CHEERING

0:04:31 > 0:04:34Ladies and gentlemen, please give a big thank you...That was a noise

0:04:34 > 0:04:43and a half for Roger Federer! For Goffin, when you got that head-on,

0:04:43 > 0:04:48what do you tell yourself to try and turn it around? It's not easy. We

0:04:48 > 0:04:52talk about the psychology of tennis and sport, and it's about staying in

0:04:52 > 0:04:56the present. He can't dwell on past matches, if there's anything he can

0:04:56 > 0:05:02take away from that, it is purely the experience. He knows the

0:05:02 > 0:05:06strengths of Federer's game. He has to try and concentrate on his own

0:05:06 > 0:05:10game, and I always think the start is vital. Federer is such a good

0:05:10 > 0:05:15front runner, you don't want to give him an early break. It's important

0:05:15 > 0:05:20that Goffin tries to get his spots on his serve to try and keep that

0:05:20 > 0:05:24first serve percentage guy and, when he gets an opportunity for rallies,

0:05:24 > 0:05:29he's got over it, flatten out his ball and trying to be aggressive. --

0:05:29 > 0:05:33he's got to go for it. Without any weapons, Federer will wait to

0:05:33 > 0:05:38dictate with his forehand. We are just waiting for Roger to come to

0:05:38 > 0:05:45the site. You know, he is just, he loves this arena, this occasion, and

0:05:45 > 0:05:49he reacts to it so well.He is taking his time, like his rival,

0:05:49 > 0:05:58Rafa. That is interesting.Welcome to the finals. After the coin toss,

0:05:58 > 0:06:05we will do a quick photo. We have the FedEx site and the ATP site,

0:06:05 > 0:06:12which would you like? ATP site is the call. It is FedEx. Roger.

0:06:12 > 0:06:15Received.Good match.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22In keeping with tradition, Roger wins the toss and he elected to

0:06:22 > 0:06:27receive. Let's get back to the story last night involving Andy Murray and

0:06:27 > 0:06:32his split from Ivan Lendl. This is what Murray had to say. I'm thankful

0:06:32 > 0:06:36to Ivan for all of his help and guidance. We have had great success

0:06:36 > 0:06:41and learned a lot. My focus now is on getting ready for Australia with

0:06:41 > 0:06:45the team I have in place and getting back to completing. Is this a

0:06:45 > 0:06:52surprise? Not for me. As Andy alluded to, they had a massive

0:06:52 > 0:06:55amount of success.I'm sure that Andy and the team have learned a lot

0:06:55 > 0:07:01from Ivan. They never actually saw a great deal of each other but, right

0:07:01 > 0:07:07now, the focus is on Andy's it and getting healthy. I think he's got a

0:07:07 > 0:07:12great team. Jamie Delgado, who spends every day of the tennis

0:07:12 > 0:07:14calendar with Andy on court, I think he's done a great job. He

0:07:14 > 0:07:20understands Andy's game and, as a person, he gets on well with the

0:07:20 > 0:07:26team.People want to bring in super coaches, and that is what Ivan was.

0:07:26 > 0:07:32When he's fit with Amelie Mauresmo, Ivan came on at Queen's at the

0:07:32 > 0:07:36beginning of 2016. -- when he split foot and then he won 52 matches out

0:07:36 > 0:07:43of 55 for the remains of the year. And he was world number one. You can

0:07:43 > 0:07:48put out a statement like that, and you can always get back together

0:07:48 > 0:07:52again in a few months if it's not working out. It's kind of a shame.

0:07:52 > 0:07:56Ivan Lendl was somebody that will always be on the end of a phone. If

0:07:56 > 0:08:00Andy wanted to call on him in the future, he can. I agree with Tim.

0:08:00 > 0:08:05The main thing for Andy is to keep the rest of the team employed by

0:08:05 > 0:08:09being a tennis player himself, and I remain extremely worried about his

0:08:09 > 0:08:13hip and his future prospects. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.A

0:08:13 > 0:08:17horrible year for him. He had shingles and other illnesses,

0:08:17 > 0:08:22injuries, and then the injury to his hip. He's never been fit for a full

0:08:22 > 0:08:27month.It's been very difficult. I think his performance at the end of

0:08:27 > 0:08:32last year probably played a part. He was exhausted and, in hindsight,

0:08:32 > 0:08:36could probably have done with a bit of time off at the end of 2016 to

0:08:36 > 0:08:43give himself a chance for 2017. As Andrew said, Andy has had the

0:08:43 > 0:08:47problem with his hip. If anybody is going to overcome it, it is handy,

0:08:47 > 0:08:52because he is so meticulous and motivated, and he likes

0:08:52 > 0:08:54confrontation. He normally has confrontation with an opponent but

0:08:54 > 0:09:00now he has it with his hip, and he is going to prove his hip wrong and

0:09:00 > 0:09:05get back to full fitness. We will all be keeping our fingers crossed.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07At the press conference, Grigor Dimitrov was asked about the

0:09:07 > 0:09:11situation with Andy Murray and he said, I'm not worried for them if

0:09:11 > 0:09:17you me, is he going to take Danny, no, it isn't going to take him back.

0:09:17 > 0:09:23You mentioned it was a tough year and they have just had their second

0:09:23 > 0:09:26baby, so I guess it isn't all bad. But Andy wants to be a part of this,

0:09:26 > 0:09:31which is why he was here this week practising. If his career is over

0:09:31 > 0:09:36because of this, that would be sad, but I tell you what, what a career!

0:09:36 > 0:09:43I'm not trying to write the guy off. We hope he is coming back. But hips

0:09:43 > 0:09:47are notoriously difficult. If anybody can do it, it will be Andy.

0:09:47 > 0:09:52Back to today, and Roger Federer, how well has he played this week?

0:09:52 > 0:09:57He's played OK. He has won three matches in his group, but his first

0:09:57 > 0:10:00serve percentage has been average, back of the court, a lot more

0:10:00 > 0:10:06unforced errors and we are used to see from him. Again, he is good at

0:10:06 > 0:10:13not panicking. I don't think he has to play his best tennis to win

0:10:13 > 0:10:17today, but if he were to go through to the final, he'd be looking to up

0:10:17 > 0:10:23his level at all times.Goffin has to do something different, so what

0:10:23 > 0:10:28is that? Doing more to Roger's background rather than the forehand?

0:10:28 > 0:10:35I have no idea. I love the way Goffin plays, but Federer as so many

0:10:35 > 0:10:41tools and wasted that an opponent that you have to see him as the

0:10:41 > 0:10:44potential winner. Goffin, the mascot was almost as big as he was when he

0:10:44 > 0:10:50came out! It's so nice to watch him play.In his group match, Goffin

0:10:50 > 0:10:53struggled against Dimitrov, because Dimitrov was patient, he stayed in

0:10:53 > 0:10:58the rally, he didn't make unforced errors but, when he got the

0:10:58 > 0:11:02opportunity to unload, he had the firepower to hit through Goffin.

0:11:02 > 0:11:06Let's be honest, Federer is a better version of Dimitrov. That is where

0:11:06 > 0:11:11it is difficult to come up with some sort of game plan with the weapons

0:11:11 > 0:11:15that Goffin has, to see how we can but Federer, but he's got to give it

0:11:15 > 0:11:19his best shot and he has nothing to lose. He's had a great year and,

0:11:19 > 0:11:25irrespective of what happens in this match, 20 of stuff to follow. His

0:11:25 > 0:11:30season is by no means over. -- plenty of stuff.Last season, Roger

0:11:30 > 0:11:37Federer was different, he was being aggressive. It has worked for him.

0:11:37 > 0:11:41He has talked about his racket with a large ahead, a bigger sweet spot,

0:11:41 > 0:11:44and he has certainly got the confidence on his backhand to be

0:11:44 > 0:11:48aggressive. If he is being aggressive on both wings, it is a

0:11:48 > 0:11:53bonus. Not too many areas to attack. The one area you want to come in is

0:11:53 > 0:11:59with a big serve to try and really set up the opportunities for you to

0:11:59 > 0:12:02dictate the points. Once Federer starts being offensive, it is

0:12:02 > 0:12:07difficult to defend against him on any surface, let alone a fast indoor

0:12:07 > 0:12:11court.Can't wait to hear what you are going to do for your cup of tea

0:12:11 > 0:12:15today. No doubt that will be unfurled in a moment. But sit back

0:12:15 > 0:12:21and enjoy this semifinal. A great reception for both players,

0:12:21 > 0:12:26the first of two semifinals today. This evening, Dimitrov against Sock,

0:12:26 > 0:12:30the debutant, the first time for one qualifier. David Goffin, serving to

0:12:30 > 0:12:33the six time champion.

0:12:46 > 0:12:51Worth remembering that he got off to a poor start against Dominic Thiem.

0:12:51 > 0:12:56He was getting hammered by Grigor Dimitrov, where he got just two

0:12:56 > 0:13:00games, and was 3-0 down against Thiem.

0:13:23 > 0:13:28It's early days but I think, when you got a rallying shot and a

0:13:28 > 0:13:32choice, from Goffin's point of view, going to Federer's forehand, knowing

0:13:32 > 0:13:36that it's a risk...

0:14:37 > 0:14:42With respect to Federer, come on, David! Keep it close.

0:15:23 > 0:15:28He is unlikely to serve much better than that -- much quicker than that,

0:15:28 > 0:15:35125. This would be a tremendous start for the Belgian.

0:15:54 > 0:15:596-1, 6-2 in Basel recently, Roger Federer going ahead and winning his

0:15:59 > 0:16:02home tournament for the eighth time.

0:16:23 > 0:16:28Thierry Van Cleemput, who is working with David Goffin. Eight straight

0:16:28 > 0:16:33sets for Federer against this man.

0:17:09 > 0:17:13Federer did the hard work and really worked himself into the point. He

0:17:13 > 0:17:15got forward and anywhere in that service box would have been a

0:17:15 > 0:17:17winner.

0:17:39 > 0:17:44Fourth break point this opening service game.

0:18:28 > 0:18:35Tremendous work from Goffin. Actually, from both players. Goffin

0:18:35 > 0:18:41going into the forehand lot in this match where there is a choice. It's

0:18:41 > 0:18:46a risk. You've got to go there with strength, but the advantage of going

0:18:46 > 0:18:51into the four and is it opens up the backhand. If you keep playing to the

0:18:51 > 0:18:54backhand side, Federer will edge over there and your gets smaller and

0:18:54 > 0:19:02smaller. -- your target gets smaller and smaller.

0:19:26 > 0:19:33I think they are bluffing. I think it is in somebody's and back. --

0:19:33 > 0:19:36somebody's handbag.

0:20:15 > 0:20:26Oh, it's a way. What a contest in the opening game. On his fifth break

0:20:26 > 0:20:32point opportunity, Federer breakthrough. -- breaks through.

0:20:32 > 0:20:37Boy, that was a decent game. It's been a story of this event, how well

0:20:37 > 0:20:42the players have come out and struck the ball from the first point. You

0:20:42 > 0:20:46were directing our attention to this earlier in the week. Federer's first

0:20:46 > 0:20:53serve and second serve placement. He can hit all six areas of the court,

0:20:53 > 0:20:57so you can't tell where he is going to do it. Serving few into the body.

0:20:57 > 0:21:02But not one of the fastest servers in the game, but certainly one of

0:21:02 > 0:21:11the most accurate.Starting to go out wide with this slice serve. He's

0:21:11 > 0:21:12got the break.

0:23:59 > 0:24:06Former world number three, Ivan Ljubicic. Coaches Federer with

0:24:06 > 0:24:11Severin Luthi. He's been with Roger Federer years, both the Swiss Davis

0:24:11 > 0:24:17Cup captain and his coach. But mainly friend and part of the team.

0:24:17 > 0:24:28It's not all about the tennis. Mirka. I am sure the four children

0:24:28 > 0:24:32are here somewhere. I haven't seen them in the stadium.

0:24:37 > 0:24:42Speaking of children and families, got some good pictures to show you

0:24:42 > 0:24:49in a minute. Serena Williams getting married a couple of days ago. Did

0:24:49 > 0:24:57you see the wedding gown? No, but looking forward to seeing it.$2.6

0:24:57 > 0:25:01million, apparently, the wedding dress.

0:25:07 > 0:25:13Expensive dress, if you only wear it once.I was going to say, folds that

0:25:13 > 0:25:19one up and take care Robic! -- take care of it.

0:25:39 > 0:25:49So, who pays for that? Is it the father of the bride?Yeah. I bet he

0:25:49 > 0:25:51got two.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00First challenge from Roger Federer.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09Need to start building up a fund now to save up for your daughter's

0:26:09 > 0:26:16wedding.I'm going to buy them and expensive dress.

0:26:25 > 0:26:30Listen, you are hardly going to be consulted! Just back off.

0:26:54 > 0:26:58No, and Goffin is off the mark with that forehand error from Federer.

0:26:58 > 0:27:07Well done to him. 1-2 and a break down. Federer is only dropped serve

0:27:07 > 0:27:11twice so far in three previous matches. OK, it was Disney, beauty

0:27:11 > 0:27:15and the beast themed wedding. A lot of wonderful music, and Serena

0:27:15 > 0:27:21Williams posted this beautiful picture. Congratulations to her. And

0:27:21 > 0:27:23Alexander McQueen dress. I've given you the price already, but that's

0:27:23 > 0:27:28not the point. It's just wonderful. She has taken time off, the

0:27:28 > 0:27:43Wimbledon champion. The bridegroom, Alexis O'Hanion, of Ukrainian

0:27:43 > 0:27:49descent, has posted that. Their two-month-old child has -- their

0:27:49 > 0:27:52two-month-old child was at the ceremony, and it's going to appear

0:27:52 > 0:27:58in Vogue magazine, by all accounts. As for you, who is paying? You are,

0:27:58 > 0:28:03productively. If I have a son who was marrying one of your daughters,

0:28:03 > 0:28:07I think that would be the case. I think it should be more 50-50, don't

0:28:07 > 0:28:15you? He isn't short of a bob or two, Alexis O'Hanion. 150 people there.

0:28:15 > 0:28:20Some great pictures appearing. I hope she comes back and has the

0:28:20 > 0:28:31appetite to play. Simona Halep, the world number one, and Caroline

0:28:31 > 0:28:37Wozniacki winning the season-ending championships, the WTA Tour, and she

0:28:37 > 0:28:42was at the wedding, too. Great friends with Serena.

0:29:39 > 0:29:43This would leave just one challenge remaining, if he gets this wrong...

0:29:43 > 0:29:47Just one more challenge remaining, the fourth game.

0:30:15 > 0:30:20That is a shot he said he has struggled with this week, going down

0:30:20 > 0:30:24the line, the higher part of the net, it does look like the ball is

0:30:24 > 0:30:26flying a little bit on him.

0:30:34 > 0:30:45That is accuracy for you.

0:30:45 > 0:30:50Three net cords in a row?Lot of the mistakes from Federer on the

0:30:50 > 0:30:56backhand have been on the net but if he feels the ball flying... He is

0:30:56 > 0:30:59trying to keep the ball a bit lower.

0:31:20 > 0:31:29Each round robin when was worth 200 computer points, a semifinal is

0:31:29 > 0:31:37worth 402 win this entire thing, 1500 points. The Grand Slam is 2000

0:31:37 > 0:31:42and the Masters 1000 series is obviously 1000. The clue is in the

0:31:42 > 0:31:51name.

0:32:01 > 0:32:05We have seen Federer attacking the second serve more from the Goffin

0:32:05 > 0:32:12box but from the deuce box... Inside the baseline...

0:32:15 > 0:32:22If Federer was to go ahead and pick up some good computer points this

0:32:22 > 0:32:25weekend, that would put him into a position just tucked in behind Rafa

0:32:25 > 0:32:28Nadal.

0:33:09 > 0:33:15At times you don't know what to say about Federer's tennis.That is

0:33:15 > 0:33:20where you'd take your hat, Goffin has played some good tennis but

0:33:20 > 0:33:23Federer is in a different league.

0:34:12 > 0:34:23The Davis cup champion for Croatia, they went undefeated in that year.

0:34:23 > 0:34:32Winning all 11 matches they played. And has beaten Roger Federer.

0:34:49 > 0:34:54There is that right knowledge and acceptance from Goffin, pulled out

0:34:54 > 0:34:59wide from the back spin and that piercing drive down the line from

0:34:59 > 0:35:05Federer and this set is in the hands of Federer after 22 minutes. After

0:35:05 > 0:35:11taking six months off after the 2016 semifinal loss to Milos Raonic, he

0:35:11 > 0:35:17won the Australian Open. Ridiculous, really. And the final against Nadal,

0:35:17 > 0:35:21after being down in the fifth, was superb. He will have to defend that

0:35:21 > 0:35:31Down Under in January. He has won some big titles. Four of those

0:35:31 > 0:35:36defeats, two of the matches had match point against Tommy Haas

0:35:36 > 0:35:45earlier on in the year.Indeed. Just those four losses and to begin next

0:35:45 > 0:35:50year, the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami, straight out of the

0:35:50 > 0:35:54blocks! Unbelievable but it was those six months off and then

0:35:54 > 0:35:58winning Australia that really shocked the world of tennis.Plenty

0:35:58 > 0:36:02of players have had a long injury lay-off but this was very

0:36:02 > 0:36:07calculated. There is no one who has returned to the sport and been so

0:36:07 > 0:36:14successful, so quickly. After a year like that, he ends up that number

0:36:14 > 0:36:20two, that shows you how good a year Rafa Nadal had at the age of 31. The

0:36:20 > 0:36:25oldest year end number one, Roger Federer the oldest year end number

0:36:25 > 0:36:32two. More and more records for these great players.

0:37:58 > 0:38:03Exhibition stuff in what happens to be the semifinals of the World Tour

0:38:03 > 0:38:11Finals.This is the stage for Roger Federer to exhibit all of his

0:38:11 > 0:38:12talent.

0:38:27 > 0:38:34A 14th semifinal in 15 appearances for Federer. Serve Ian McKellen.

0:38:53 > 0:38:54-- serve Ian McKellan.

0:39:09 > 0:39:29Oh! What is going on? That is just not a! -- naughty. That is a

0:39:29 > 0:39:32full-blooded swing. He may not have been happy with a couple of his

0:39:32 > 0:39:38performances in the group stages, notably against Zverev, but he is

0:39:38 > 0:39:41totally in control with this.

0:41:55 > 0:42:08The Davis Cup final begins next Friday. France against Belgium. That

0:42:08 > 0:42:16isn't Lille, with Goffin leading the Belgian team. -- that is in.

0:42:33 > 0:42:38He started this week by defeating the world number one, Rafa Nadal.

0:42:38 > 0:42:43Excellent match in three sets, Nadal was not right and retired at the end

0:42:43 > 0:42:51of that and went home, he had knee problems.

0:43:08 > 0:43:13That is good for a couple of reasons. He does not allow Federer

0:43:13 > 0:43:20to start the second set serving. Some small comfort for him. And you

0:43:20 > 0:43:25look at the way that Goffin has played, hitting the ball well, he

0:43:25 > 0:43:29has tried to be as offensive as possible and anything that drops in

0:43:29 > 0:43:33the middle of the court, Federer is able to dictate with both backhand

0:43:33 > 0:43:42and forehand.Unusual for a player to only be five foot 11, these days

0:43:42 > 0:43:46we expect them to be six foot three and above and everybody says you

0:43:46 > 0:43:51must be enormous and physical, you can be physical at his height. He is

0:43:51 > 0:43:58quick and he has good hands. Certainly does, you always tried to

0:43:58 > 0:44:02control the controllable is and you cannot do much about your height but

0:44:02 > 0:44:07with his physique, he is very fleet of foot and strong on both wings but

0:44:07 > 0:44:13you'd just want some of that big weapon, the big first serve or

0:44:13 > 0:44:18devastating ground stroke. He has a lot of good things but not just one

0:44:18 > 0:44:25weapon that can really hurt Federer. That victory over Nadal was Goffin's

0:44:25 > 0:44:33fifth top ten win this year, it was taken to three sets and he stay

0:44:33 > 0:44:38determined and got through that and then was hammered by Grigor Dimitrov

0:44:38 > 0:44:42with the loss of two games, one of the performances of the year from

0:44:42 > 0:44:48Dimitrov. He recovered to beat Dominic Thiem from three love line.

0:44:48 > 0:44:56To get to this semifinal. -- three love down.

0:45:58 > 0:46:02Well, the first game is so important, Goffin tried to hang on

0:46:02 > 0:46:06but on his fifth break point Federer got through and it was one-way

0:46:06 > 0:46:14traffic. A wonderful performance from him as he takes out a nice, new

0:46:14 > 0:46:19racquet. To return these relatively new balls. The stage is yours, Tim

0:46:19 > 0:46:27Henman?13 - three, that is one reflection of how much Federer is

0:46:27 > 0:46:31dominating from the back of the court, there are too many unforced

0:46:31 > 0:46:37errors from both of them. Federer has obviously got the winners to

0:46:37 > 0:46:41counterbalance those unforced errors. The area of the game that

0:46:41 > 0:46:47Federer has not done so well in this week... The fastest serve from

0:46:47 > 0:46:53Goffin, four miles per hour faster than Federer.Perhaps a little

0:46:53 > 0:47:01surprising. Federer has raised his ground stroke speed, that is a

0:47:01 > 0:47:06reflection of what is coming at you. Hitting more forehands here. And the

0:47:06 > 0:47:12percentages on serve. That is a good number Federer. Lowell on the first

0:47:12 > 0:47:23serve points that he has one. That little graph at the bottom... Five

0:47:23 > 0:47:31break points in the first game and there is three for the second break.

0:47:31 > 0:47:38And the break point that he was unable to convert... At the moment,

0:47:38 > 0:47:44it is one-way.One-way traffic and the question is, what can Goffin do

0:47:44 > 0:47:52differently? I struggle to think of anything. He cannot really serve and

0:47:52 > 0:47:56volley, can he be more aggressive from the baseline? He will then make

0:47:56 > 0:48:02more unforced errors. He has to hope that his level goes up a little bit

0:48:02 > 0:48:08and that Federer drops off.This is a restart for Goffin after 35

0:48:08 > 0:48:18minutes of this first semifinal at the O2 Arena. This is the end from

0:48:18 > 0:48:22which he lost the opening service game. That cannot happen again. He

0:48:22 > 0:48:26has lost nine straight sets to Federer.

0:49:03 > 0:49:13The 14th semifinal on these World Tour Championship 's. Ten and three,

0:49:13 > 0:49:23losing to three players.

0:49:26 > 0:49:31I cannot believe we have been here in London since 2009.

0:49:39 > 0:49:45A great backhand by Federer but after the first serve, Goffin got

0:49:45 > 0:49:51the reply he wants, he has to do more with this shot. Rolling it into

0:49:51 > 0:49:55the corner, he has to go for it and if he misses that, big deal, he is

0:49:55 > 0:49:57going to miss the point anyway.

0:50:35 > 0:50:44Getting the job done for Goffin. That is a better start to this set.

0:50:44 > 0:50:49A couple of tournament victories for him towards the end of the year,

0:50:49 > 0:50:58China, 250. And the Japan open in Tokyo, where he defeated an arena.

0:50:58 > 0:51:05The finals in Sofia and Rotterdam. Endorse. Consistent, 56 match

0:51:05 > 0:51:11victories this year for Goffin.

0:52:55 > 0:53:02A couple of good returns. Goffin is hoping for a missed first serve and

0:53:02 > 0:53:08then volleyed to go after the second. He took a big risk.

0:53:22 > 0:53:32He had his chances. The forehand passes, could have gone down the

0:53:32 > 0:53:37line. Federer was there to pick off that forehand volley. This one

0:53:37 > 0:53:39coming up...

0:54:07 > 0:54:12Goffin continuing to go into Federer's forehand but really

0:54:12 > 0:54:16hitting those shots with some firepower.

0:55:09 > 0:55:13Goffin was talking about how he was not sure what he was going to change

0:55:13 > 0:55:15but it appears the difference between this match and basil daisy

0:55:15 > 0:55:20is getting that forehand consistently, he is having some

0:55:20 > 0:55:27mistakes...

0:55:36 > 0:55:41-- Basel is that he is.

0:56:24 > 0:56:32Federer winning all the points on the deuce court and Goffin on the ad

0:56:32 > 0:56:34court.

0:56:44 > 0:56:49The longest game on Federer's serve is turning into one of the most

0:56:49 > 0:56:55demanding to break any point. The first for Goffin.

0:57:14 > 0:57:23And he has got the break! Only the third time Federer has been broken

0:57:23 > 0:57:30this week and after the first set, this is an excellent response. It is

0:57:30 > 0:57:35great hitting from Goffin, he was forcing the errors out of Federer

0:57:35 > 0:57:41and then a great second serve return at deuce and a strong point finish

0:57:41 > 0:57:44with the great passing shot. Absolutely deserves a break of

0:57:44 > 0:57:47serve. He really has to knuckle down on his own serve.

0:58:00 > 0:58:03Fantastic.

0:59:54 > 1:00:03What a turnaround! Excellent work. 26-year-old from Rocourt in Belgium.

1:00:03 > 1:00:07At a career-high after rate tremendous year. At a tournament

1:00:07 > 1:00:14last year, he took place of Gael Monfils, but this year he returns

1:00:14 > 1:00:17having made it through to the semifinal and making a pretty good

1:00:17 > 1:00:22fist of this. Kind of a free game next. No time to take your foot off

1:00:22 > 1:00:28the gas, and you certainly want to go for it straightaway. But Federer,

1:00:28 > 1:00:32no sign of panic, I'm sure. He isn't really want to panic on court.

1:00:32 > 1:00:37Definitely not. He will appreciate that Goffin has played some great

1:00:37 > 1:00:42tennis and he'll go back to the basics of hitting the spots on is

1:00:42 > 1:00:48serve, try and hold the next game and have another crack at Goffin's

1:00:48 > 1:00:51serve.They are playing a Stevie Wonder track in here, and everybody

1:00:51 > 1:00:57is trying to get involved.

1:01:03 > 1:01:10Want to swap, Mirka? You know, somewhere in here, there could be

1:01:10 > 1:01:16some little Henmans. No, I don't think she is going -- Sir Ian is

1:01:16 > 1:01:22going to stand up and start twerking or anything, but you never know.My

1:01:22 > 1:01:26family are dotted around here somewhere.Denis Shapovalov,

1:01:26 > 1:01:32Newcomer of the year. We will be speaking to him a bit later. There

1:01:32 > 1:01:37will be an encore ceremony to celebrate that award after Roger

1:01:37 > 1:01:42Federer or David Goffin comes through this. After that match, we

1:01:42 > 1:01:47will be hearing from this wonderful left-handed player, this newcomer.

1:02:23 > 1:02:30You know, I suspect Denis Shapovalov would be as nervous about making his

1:02:30 > 1:02:36speech as he was about playing any matches this year. 18 years old,

1:02:36 > 1:02:48fourth round, last 16 at the US Open, he beat MBE. Tremendous year,

1:02:48 > 1:02:54from 250 to 51 in the world. -- he beat Nadal.

1:02:58 > 1:03:0568 seconds worth of service game from Federer.

1:03:33 > 1:03:45There they all are.A good serve and volley, but I don't think Goffin

1:03:45 > 1:03:49really got the volley. I think he nudged back and tailgated. Beat me

1:03:49 > 1:03:53with your backhand.

1:05:16 > 1:05:24Certainly not coming now for Federer. He had 0-15 in this game

1:05:24 > 1:05:27and a clenched fist after that forehand pass. Since then, Goffin,

1:05:27 > 1:05:31another steady response.

1:06:31 > 1:06:39Well, Goffin looking over at his coach about that challenge. Clean

1:06:39 > 1:06:43strike. It's the footwork that makes such a big difference, Federer just

1:06:43 > 1:06:50tucked that out and round. One of the fastest racket heads you'll ever

1:06:50 > 1:06:55see, almost 4000 rpm on the resulting top-spin.

1:07:03 > 1:07:12Smart serving. 107 mph, but well-placed, keeping Federer

1:07:12 > 1:07:19off-balance. Not easy.At 40-15, when you get your game point

1:07:19 > 1:07:26opportunities, it is so important to close them out.

1:07:39 > 1:07:44Well, I'm glad we are seeing a match because, after the first set of just

1:07:44 > 1:07:49over half an hour, you thought Federer could run through this,

1:07:49 > 1:07:51bearing in mind that Dimitrov had beaten Goffin earlier this week with

1:07:51 > 1:07:59the loss of just two games. But hasn't he done well?Really well. He

1:07:59 > 1:08:04has upped his first serve percentage and is winning 82% when the first

1:08:04 > 1:08:07serve finds its mark. Only three unforced errors in the set. Big

1:08:07 > 1:08:14difference to the first, where he made 13 unforced errors in eight

1:08:14 > 1:08:19games.He has settled in, and this is the first of two semifinals. Just

1:08:19 > 1:08:24eight men in this event, split into two groups of four, so we are

1:08:24 > 1:08:28looking at the whim of one group, Federer, against the runner-up of

1:08:28 > 1:08:34the other, Goffin, and later on Dimitrov, won his group, against the

1:08:34 > 1:08:39run up against Federer, Jack Sock. Three debutantes and a six time

1:08:39 > 1:08:48champion in these cemeteries Daly semis. -- in these semis. That is

1:08:48 > 1:08:56where they are! We found them.I recognise two of those. No, I

1:08:56 > 1:09:03recognise more than that.Do they play tennis?A little bit. They play

1:09:03 > 1:09:06a bit at school. Is that because their dad was too lazy to teach

1:09:06 > 1:09:15them?Perhaps. Wrong surname to play tennis in this country.

1:09:50 > 1:09:59I wonder if Myla Rose and Charlene Riva, Federer pass daughters, can

1:09:59 > 1:10:08play tennis, or Leo and Lenny. Tough old surname as well! Are you any

1:10:08 > 1:10:15good?Who coaches you? My dad.

1:10:24 > 1:10:30The funny thing is, they probably wouldn't listen.

1:10:42 > 1:10:47I think he actually does take the kids to tennis lessons. That would

1:10:47 > 1:10:51be a pressurised situation for a coach.

1:10:58 > 1:11:00Great return.

1:12:24 > 1:12:28A few more errors coming from Federer pass racket, but Goffin

1:12:28 > 1:12:31doing a good job in the early parts of his service games getting his

1:12:31 > 1:12:34nose in front.

1:13:27 > 1:13:31Couldn't quite get his feet up to the ball.

1:13:45 > 1:13:48Just guided the ball on that forehand side. Just pushed it a

1:13:48 > 1:13:54little bit. If it was missed, it's going to be a break point. It is

1:13:54 > 1:13:55wide.

1:14:13 > 1:14:16Reaching for the ball.

1:14:25 > 1:14:28We've said several times this week, Federer, that he's struggled at

1:14:28 > 1:14:33times to control the ball on his forehand on a big point.

1:14:33 > 1:14:37Surprisingly this.

1:15:10 > 1:15:17David Goffin just continues to impress. At 0-30 in that game, and

1:15:17 > 1:15:26then break point down, but just so resilient, isn't he? Keeps on

1:15:26 > 1:15:29bouncing back for more, enjoying this match now, and he is right

1:15:29 > 1:15:34involved in it. After the first set, didn't necessarily expect that to

1:15:34 > 1:15:39happen. Reminder that it is Dimitrov against Sock, the second semifinal,

1:15:39 > 1:15:45later. Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo are in the finals, they beat Ryan

1:15:45 > 1:15:52Harrison and Michael Venus. It will be Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares

1:15:52 > 1:15:55against Henri Kontinen and John Peers, who have won all four finals

1:15:55 > 1:15:59they've been in this year and are defending ATP final champions. A lot

1:15:59 > 1:16:03to look forward to on the doubles court as well. BBC sport website for

1:16:03 > 1:16:10that, and you can hear it on BBC five live sports extra. Tomorrow at

1:16:10 > 1:16:196pm on BBC Two, the final, Goffin against Sock. It's looking that way

1:16:19 > 1:16:25now, isn't it!It would be unusual. People expecting Federer against

1:16:25 > 1:16:31Dimitrov.Is easy to take Federer winning for granted, but it's been

1:16:31 > 1:16:34impressive away that Goffin responded. He didn't get frustrated

1:16:34 > 1:16:39at the end of the first set, he stuck to his guns and played a great

1:16:39 > 1:16:43game to break the Federer serve and, at worst now, he's going to have an

1:16:43 > 1:16:51opportunity to for this second set. -- to serve for this second set.

1:19:06 > 1:19:10So, Goffin trying to do what he hasn't done in two years and three

1:19:10 > 1:19:17matches, to take a set from Federer. He will go and changed his racket,

1:19:17 > 1:19:22because he is about to receive. He has 12 rackets, he travels with 12,

1:19:22 > 1:19:29and he has all eight of them strong for each match. -- re-strong. I

1:19:29 > 1:19:37think he was saying that the downstream is in gut, 27 kilos, 25

1:19:37 > 1:19:43and a half cross strings. Lots of tiny little alterations and he says

1:19:43 > 1:19:47he can feel the difference.

1:19:50 > 1:19:53A great start.

1:20:01 > 1:20:05Such a hard thing to do, to dominate Federer from the back of the court.

1:20:05 > 1:20:11It is Goffin getting on the front foot.

1:20:18 > 1:20:23Doesn't serve many aces, but certainly a good time for his

1:20:23 > 1:20:25fourth.

1:20:45 > 1:20:49Already, just scraps for Federer in this game. Three straight points for

1:20:49 > 1:20:55Goffin to make it 1-1.

1:20:58 > 1:21:04And one is all that he needs. Good work, David Goffin we are going into

1:21:04 > 1:21:10a decider here in the semifinal of the ATP Finals.

1:21:14 > 1:21:19A couple of times this week, Federer has looked a little bit crosspatch,

1:21:19 > 1:21:22a bit frustrated with his performance. He lost a set to Cilic

1:21:22 > 1:21:26when it was a death match and he'd already won the group. The match

1:21:26 > 1:21:30against Alexander Zverev was a big build-up. Some frustrations there.

1:21:30 > 1:21:36It hasn't all been going his way. He is going to have to fight once again

1:21:36 > 1:21:44to make yet another final here in London. What a difference between

1:21:44 > 1:21:51the sets. Total points won, Goffin, 33 to 25. Coming into the net a fair

1:21:51 > 1:22:01amount, Goffin. Timing is everything for that. Tim.Not a lot to look at

1:22:01 > 1:22:06when you are talking about service speed. None of these players,

1:22:06 > 1:22:10neither of these players are going to break records. But Goffin really

1:22:10 > 1:22:18cut out the unforced errors and won the important points. 63% of first

1:22:18 > 1:22:24serves, winning 79% when that goes in, and 64 on second serve. That is

1:22:24 > 1:22:29good, because he isn't getting cheap points with his second serve, so

1:22:29 > 1:22:34those are baseline rallies, and he has dominated. And Federer ran

1:22:34 > 1:22:38further in the second set and Goffin, which suggests that Goffin

1:22:38 > 1:22:41is controlling the centre of the court better than he was in the

1:22:41 > 1:22:47first set. So, the expectation would be that Federer would pick up his

1:22:47 > 1:22:52play, but nothing to be taken for granted here. This great career that

1:22:52 > 1:22:58we've celebrated so many times. The psychology is interesting because we

1:22:58 > 1:23:01said Goffin came on the court with nothing to lose. He played the

1:23:01 > 1:23:06second set the right way, going for his shots. When you win the second

1:23:06 > 1:23:09set, suddenly it is a shoot out in the third set and you have to

1:23:09 > 1:23:13maintain that attitude. You can't suddenly say, actually, I've got

1:23:13 > 1:23:17something to lose. You've got to keep going for your shots. That is

1:23:17 > 1:23:20easier said than done.

1:25:05 > 1:25:09We'll be celebrating at the end of this match Denis Shapovalov, the

1:25:09 > 1:25:20most improved award for him. For Federer, the sportsmanship award,

1:25:20 > 1:25:25named after Stefan Edberg. They come back Player of the Year and the

1:25:25 > 1:25:30fans' favourite. As you heard from the welcome that he got.

1:26:59 > 1:27:05One minute, Goffin is on the attack. The next minute, it's Federer. Both

1:27:05 > 1:27:09defending well, but Federer able to use that forehand down the line to

1:27:09 > 1:27:14set up the shortfall. Couldn't miss that at this stage of the match. --

1:27:14 > 1:27:18to set up a short ball.

1:27:40 > 1:27:44Gutsy play from Goffin. He's continued to go strong to Federer's

1:27:44 > 1:27:47forehand.

1:28:01 > 1:28:07That ball looked very long. Perhaps I'm wrong. It didn't matter in the

1:28:07 > 1:28:09end.

1:28:40 > 1:28:47He's getting reeled in. This normal tour of triumph that the Swiss fans

1:28:47 > 1:28:51get used to seeing isn't happening today. Going to have to grind this

1:28:51 > 1:28:53one out.

1:29:02 > 1:29:14Lots of mistakes. He looks flat. Goffin, from 0-30, with a hold. A

1:29:14 > 1:29:19bit early to celebrate, but holding from 0-30 against Federer at the

1:29:19 > 1:29:22start of the third set is a big deal.

1:29:34 > 1:29:43Five straight points. Goffin in the lead.

1:30:04 > 1:30:12It doesn't look like he really wants to be at at the moment. -- to be out

1:30:12 > 1:30:18there playing. More frustrated than anything, by his opponent, who is

1:30:18 > 1:30:21playing some exceptional tennis.

1:31:13 > 1:31:20Brilliant backhand down the line. Baseball was low, that sets up the

1:31:20 > 1:31:34overhead. Two break points. -- this ball was low. He really sense that

1:31:34 > 1:31:41Federer is having to risk more and more on second serve, especially

1:31:41 > 1:31:45since Goffin is getting the upper hand in these baseline exchanges.

1:31:53 > 1:32:06He really is ahead. We have a surprise in our hands. How about it?

1:32:06 > 1:32:11At what stage does he release are thinking about this? Probably never,

1:32:11 > 1:32:16he is laid-back. He is bound to be a bit nervous as he gets closer to the

1:32:16 > 1:32:21winning line.Nothing to lose at the beginning, he wins the second set,

1:32:21 > 1:32:33well... You have something to lose now!Lovely player. He won the

1:32:33 > 1:32:38comeback Player of the Year in 2015. He suffered injuries to his wrist

1:32:38 > 1:32:44and could not play at all and then during the summer of his comeback

1:32:44 > 1:32:47year he won three straight challenges in a row at a tour event

1:32:47 > 1:32:53and he was well back. He has suffered injury himself and

1:32:53 > 1:32:59adversity and he has led his country to a second Davis Cup final against

1:32:59 > 1:33:02France next weekend. It would have been easy for him to conserve some

1:33:02 > 1:33:08energy and be satisfied with just being here but not a bit of it.They

1:33:08 > 1:33:12are both such enormous events and having qualified for this with a

1:33:12 > 1:33:18fantastic season of tennis, he would have been keen to give this his best

1:33:18 > 1:33:22shot and take advantage and find himself up by a break in the third

1:33:22 > 1:33:30set... Against Roger Federer... That is perhaps not what he was expecting

1:33:30 > 1:33:32at the beginning of the week.

1:33:37 > 1:33:42The shortest player here at five foot 11. The lightest player at 68

1:33:42 > 1:33:51kilos. He packs a punch. From the back of the court today. He has the

1:33:51 > 1:33:52break.

1:34:08 > 1:34:10Oh!

1:35:02 > 1:35:05Oh!

1:35:15 > 1:35:19One of those shots were he was probably anxious to see if he has

1:35:19 > 1:35:27made it before he had hit it. It did not need to be that good.Still

1:35:27 > 1:35:30trying to work out who the crowd want.

1:35:35 > 1:35:42That is miles out. Two forehands in this game. One pushed clearly down

1:35:42 > 1:35:47the line and the other thrashed over the baseline. It is rare to see him

1:35:47 > 1:35:49so anxious on that forehand side.

1:36:09 > 1:36:18It had plenty of top-spin on it. Did it dip? Absolutely not.

1:36:44 > 1:36:49Again, it is a fine line, he has to be aggressive for that big second

1:36:49 > 1:36:57serve... Not the time to serve your first double fault in the match.

1:37:11 > 1:37:15This is not the time to serve a second double fault in the match!

1:37:35 > 1:37:39That was a tennis point!

1:38:18 > 1:38:24Goffin is playing so well, lovely adjustment with his footwork, the

1:38:24 > 1:38:32return clipped the top of the net. 121 mph, the first serve, coming up

1:38:32 > 1:38:34the right time.

1:38:47 > 1:38:54Yes! You have to love the way this guy plays.

1:39:22 > 1:39:30Who do you think is going to win from here? We're not doing a cup of

1:39:30 > 1:39:35tea on this but right now, the way they are playing, Goffin is the

1:39:35 > 1:39:42favourite. Maybe only the slight favourite but he is controlling the

1:39:42 > 1:39:44play from the back of the court.

1:40:26 > 1:40:30That is why the sport can be difficult to predict, Goffin beat

1:40:30 > 1:40:36Rafa Nadal in his first match, the world number one. Then two games

1:40:36 > 1:40:50against Dimitrov, solid match against Dominic Thiem. Now, he is

1:40:50 > 1:40:53eyeing up the finishing line against Federer, a person he has never

1:40:53 > 1:41:07beaten.Quick game, nice. There was something I meant to look at

1:41:07 > 1:41:13earlier, the last time somebody beat Nadal and Federer in the same

1:41:13 > 1:41:21week... You can go through your mental files, I know, but it is a

1:41:21 > 1:41:26good question... I am sure somebody out there will know this! It would

1:41:26 > 1:41:32not be a bad week, to have to play both in the same week along with

1:41:32 > 1:41:36Dominic Thiem and Dimitrov and Goffin is not finished yet. He will

1:41:36 > 1:41:42have to keep on thinking and keep on changing the spin and the pace, keep

1:41:42 > 1:41:47believing in what has gotten to this point, playing against a bloke he is

1:41:47 > 1:41:58very happy to say was his hero growing up.He beat Nadal, Federer,

1:41:58 > 1:42:05lose and still win the tournament! There has been some great tennis

1:42:05 > 1:42:12this week. People were worried with the likes of Kei Nishikori, Stan

1:42:12 > 1:42:17Wawrinka, Andy Murray, Djokovic, all unable to compete at this event and

1:42:17 > 1:42:21in the last few months of the tour but the people here have been

1:42:21 > 1:42:27thrilled to be a part of the show. Zverev will be disappointed with

1:42:27 > 1:42:32himself to have lost a tremendous match with Jack Sock. The American

1:42:32 > 1:42:36went through to the semifinal.

1:43:58 > 1:44:04Well, the serve was 90 mph and the forehand winner was 89. Who is the

1:44:04 > 1:44:16baseline volley right now?This little chap. -- baseline volley.He

1:44:16 > 1:44:21looks so diminutive in his grey socks, like he could not find any

1:44:21 > 1:44:27white socks. His knees held together with tape.

1:44:32 > 1:44:49Very nice. 4-2. Roger needs to press the non-off switch, he is running

1:44:49 > 1:44:56out of time. From Federer's point of view, does he need to change

1:44:56 > 1:45:02tactics? Do something different to break the rhythm? Goffin is playing

1:45:02 > 1:45:11incredible tennis. One thing is for sure, he has to hold onto this

1:45:11 > 1:45:12service game.

1:46:06 > 1:46:17It looked plenty long, didn't it? Is Roger Federer's year coming to a

1:46:17 > 1:46:24close? Sensation of year, fabulous comeback to the Torah. --

1:46:24 > 1:46:39sensational. Fabulous comeback to the tour.

1:46:40 > 1:46:46One challenge in about ten minutes, if he is not careful!

1:47:03 > 1:47:09It is the right shot. The aggressive is what has got into this position,

1:47:09 > 1:47:18he cannot start pushing the ball in. -- being aggressive.

1:47:32 > 1:47:40Amazing. This great player. Just struggling to get the physical

1:47:40 > 1:47:49energy going, the motivation, after being in this situation so many

1:47:49 > 1:47:54times, his 14th semifinal in 15 appearances at the season-ending

1:47:54 > 1:47:59championships, were based on a whole year's effort and work and he keeps

1:47:59 > 1:48:03coming back for more and he keeps being upbeat about the training and

1:48:03 > 1:48:07physical work. He just loves to head the ball but it has been a little

1:48:07 > 1:48:12bit join us a couple of times this week but he has got the job done.

1:48:12 > 1:48:16But he must get excited, you have two get yourself up in this

1:48:16 > 1:48:22situation?There is no doubt that Federer is competing at 100% of his

1:48:22 > 1:48:28capabilities, probably not paying 100% but that has a lot to do with

1:48:28 > 1:48:34his opponent, Goffin, seven games of this, in the third set he thoroughly

1:48:34 > 1:48:41deserves to be in the lead.

1:48:49 > 1:48:54Federer, he won his first Wimbledon before most of that lot were born, I

1:48:54 > 1:49:00would guess! He has to get excited. Make as quick as possible and hope

1:49:00 > 1:49:05that Goffin drops off a little bit.

1:49:13 > 1:49:15-- as quick as stark as possible.

1:50:44 > 1:50:50If we had our customary that, you would have chosen Federer?Yes, but

1:50:50 > 1:51:07we did not. -- bet.One game away from victory. This would be a

1:51:07 > 1:51:12tremendous upset, especially after that first set, 35 minutes, Roger

1:51:12 > 1:51:18with that regal approach, clubbing the winners, huge reception at any

1:51:18 > 1:51:22time he does anything and Goffin has just stuck around, played

1:51:22 > 1:51:28beautifully. And he is one game away.

1:51:35 > 1:51:43He came in on a wing and a prayer, Federer. He had to work hard for

1:51:43 > 1:51:46this volley.

1:52:14 > 1:52:17The kick-serve, he got up.

1:53:09 > 1:53:15Federer getting outmanoeuvred from the back of the court.

1:53:34 > 1:53:37Goffin, two points from victory and how he would like to seal the deal

1:53:37 > 1:53:38here.

1:54:22 > 1:54:28Do you think Goffin will be nervous or is he on autopilot? This is what

1:54:28 > 1:54:34you train for? I cannot imagine this young man ever having had a bigger

1:54:34 > 1:54:41game. Or having had to ensure a longer 90 seconds. He is looking up

1:54:41 > 1:54:46at some of the tennis on the big screen. That will give him

1:54:46 > 1:54:51confidence. Before he goes out to serve, which will unquestionably be

1:54:51 > 1:55:01the biggest service game of his tennis life.He has beaten Djokovic

1:55:01 > 1:55:07this year. He has beaten Nadal, he has taken his country to the Davis

1:55:07 > 1:55:12Cup final but this is a real elevation, fascinating that he is

1:55:12 > 1:55:18watching the point. Watching some of the highlights going through.

1:55:22 > 1:55:28He doesn't want to be watching how good Roger's forehand is.There are

1:55:28 > 1:55:33a lot of highlights from the way he has played in the second and third

1:55:33 > 1:55:37sets that have gotten into this position. Serving for any match, you

1:55:37 > 1:55:41want to get onto a very good start and the first couple of points will

1:55:41 > 1:55:45be vital for both players.

1:56:08 > 1:56:10That helps!

1:56:27 > 1:56:33Absolute pinpoint serving. He hit the center line twice on this first

1:56:33 > 1:56:43two points. He has taken Federer out of this game. That is where you put

1:56:43 > 1:56:45it.

1:56:54 > 1:56:56He went for the hat-trick.

1:57:14 > 1:57:19There was not quite so much racquet head acceleration on that forehand.

1:57:25 > 1:57:35So many errors on the forehand side, this legendary shot in our sport and

1:57:35 > 1:57:41Goffin has gone them relentlessly. One hour and 45 minutes. A big

1:57:41 > 1:57:48surprise. Goffin, two match points for a place in the final tomorrow

1:57:48 > 1:57:49evening.

1:57:54 > 1:58:03And he has done at! And no wonder... He has beaten his hero, Ramadi has

1:58:03 > 1:58:11never beaten before, Roger Federer. -- a man he has never beaten. He

1:58:11 > 1:58:16looks happy for his opponent and that is nice.

1:58:16 > 1:58:30APPLAUSE. Tennis history for David Goffin. The

1:58:30 > 1:58:41first man from his country to be in the season-ending finale. It is

1:58:41 > 1:58:49goodbye, Roger Federer. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:58:49 > 1:58:55Another spectacular year. Seven titles including an eight Wimbledon,

1:58:55 > 1:59:00the Australian Open again and he will finish as world number two. It

1:59:00 > 1:59:04was a flat performance, it has to be said. Into the third set,

1:59:04 > 1:59:12uncharacteristically... Goffin going through, the first man from his

1:59:12 > 1:59:17country here, through to the semifinal and final awaits. Grigor

1:59:17 > 1:59:24Dimitrov or Jack Sock?Say would you like about Federer, Goffin was

1:59:24 > 1:59:33sensational in the second and third sets.Well done! 26 years old. He

1:59:33 > 1:59:38has demonstrated you don't have to be 6.5 feet tall and full of muscles

1:59:38 > 1:59:43to get the job done. What a performance! He has beaten Rafa

1:59:43 > 1:59:48Nadal and Federer this week. That will make you feel pretty good about

1:59:48 > 1:59:51yourself!

1:59:55 > 2:00:04Looking forward to the final tomorrow. We can get his thoughts.

2:00:04 > 2:00:07Congratulations, that was a stunning performance. You just scored your

2:00:07 > 2:00:16first victory over Roger Federer. Can you just sum up the win for us?

2:00:16 > 2:00:22I have no words. I cannot describe how I'm feeling for the moment. So

2:00:22 > 2:00:27much joy, so much happiness. I'm so happy to play the match I played in

2:00:27 > 2:00:31front of you, against Roger. It was such a special moment. I can't

2:00:31 > 2:00:38describe it. APPLAUSE

2:00:38 > 2:00:42You played Roger six times and lost all six previous encounters. You

2:00:42 > 2:00:46said before this one you were going to try something different today.

2:00:46 > 2:00:53What was it that worked out? Honestly, I don't know now! Yeah, it

2:00:53 > 2:01:01was just the feeling the ball really well. I was a bit nervous when I

2:01:01 > 2:01:05started the match, and then I started to feel the ball really

2:01:05 > 2:01:10well, the second serve was there. It helped me a lot at the end, because

2:01:10 > 2:01:14I was nervous in the last game, but I did some great serves and I was

2:01:14 > 2:01:18really aggressive. I hit some great forehands, so that was my day.It

2:01:18 > 2:01:25certainly was your day. You are into your first ATP Finals. You will face

2:01:25 > 2:01:32either Dimitrov Sock. Are you going to watch it tonight? They are not

2:01:32 > 2:01:39listening, so who would you prefer to play?Er, yeah, if you watch some

2:01:39 > 2:01:45matches this week, you know the answer. But now it's the final, it's

2:01:45 > 2:01:51a different match. So, yeah, it's always special to play a final and

2:01:51 > 2:01:57obviously, for me to play the final of the Masters, if it is Jack or

2:01:57 > 2:02:00Grigor, it will be a match with a lot of emotions, so it will be

2:02:00 > 2:02:04different to the beginning of the week. I will try and play at the

2:02:04 > 2:02:10same level and try to be aggressive and play my games. Try to win.We

2:02:10 > 2:02:14really enjoyed watching you play. Well done, and we wish you all the

2:02:14 > 2:02:16best of luck for tomorrow. David Goffin!

2:02:16 > 2:02:23CHEERING Well, a well-deserved victory for

2:02:23 > 2:02:25David Goffin, who was totally outplayed in the opening set but he

2:02:25 > 2:02:29found a way to get back in the match, and he has put out his great

2:02:29 > 2:02:32idol, a player he had never beaten. Interesting, coming in today,

2:02:32 > 2:02:38wondering how many games is Goffin going to get, after only winning

2:02:38 > 2:02:45three just two weeks ago. How did he turn it around? It was incredible.

2:02:45 > 2:02:49I'm speechless. He was speechless after the match as well. The first

2:02:49 > 2:02:54set, it was as we expected. Federer was patient from the back and

2:02:54 > 2:02:58bullied him. The early part of the second set, he played a great game

2:02:58 > 2:03:04in the second set to break Federer, he got up 3-0, and it was as if his

2:03:04 > 2:03:07confidence went through the roof. From that moment, he was aggressive

2:03:07 > 2:03:11at the back of the court, he was flattening his ball out and making

2:03:11 > 2:03:15very few unforced errors, and that is the challenge. Federer, at the

2:03:15 > 2:03:22rally extended, he made mistakes, and right to the end, Goffin never

2:03:22 > 2:03:27blinked and deserved the victory.He was making Roger Federer's ground

2:03:27 > 2:03:31shots look almost ordinary.I don't know whether game plan came from,

2:03:31 > 2:03:35but some credit to his coach and to David for sitting down and thinking

2:03:35 > 2:03:41about what he wanted to do. Tim was saying, get to Federer's backhand,

2:03:41 > 2:03:46you have to go to his forehand first, and it worked. I think

2:03:46 > 2:03:49Federer was flat today, I don't know why. A couple this week, we've

2:03:49 > 2:03:54noticed he was a bit testy. He was outplayed, but he looked a bit flat.

2:03:54 > 2:03:58Looked like he wanted not to be given to him, but didn't look like

2:03:58 > 2:04:02he could dig deep, for whatever reason, so a new man in the final

2:04:02 > 2:04:07for us, and we celebrate that.Roger would hate to lose a match like

2:04:07 > 2:04:13that, that he felt he was in control of.It will be tough, because he has

2:04:13 > 2:04:16had such an incredible year, and to finish on this type of real downer

2:04:16 > 2:04:23is a big shock. But he is very good at brushing those defeats off. He

2:04:23 > 2:04:27has earned a well earned rest and I'm sure he will have some holidays.

2:04:27 > 2:04:32He will hit the practice court hard to make sure he is ready for 2018.

2:04:32 > 2:04:36For me, probably the biggest surprise of the year.We are heading

2:04:36 > 2:04:41courtside to see Denis Shapovalov. He will receive two awards, the

2:04:41 > 2:04:48exciting young 18-year-old.We now have a special ceremony on court

2:04:48 > 2:04:51here. Today, we celebrate the ATP star of tomorrow, presented by

2:04:51 > 2:04:57Emirates. ATP executive chairman and president Chris Kermode will present

2:04:57 > 2:05:03the trophy, so please give him a warm welcome on to court.

2:05:03 > 2:05:05APPLAUSE

2:05:18 > 2:05:24Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of the ATP star of tomorrow, presented

2:05:24 > 2:05:27by Emirates, from Canada, Denis Shapovalov.

2:05:27 > 2:05:32APPLAUSE

2:05:52 > 2:05:56This year, the ATP star of tomorrow, by Emirates, has been awarded to

2:05:56 > 2:06:05Denis Shapovalov.For a third set tie-break, taking down Nadal.He

2:06:05 > 2:06:09started the year outside the top 250 and reached a high of world number

2:06:09 > 2:06:1449. He finished the season the youngest player in the top 100, only

2:06:14 > 2:06:1818 years old. No surprise that he was also named most improved player

2:06:18 > 2:06:32by his peers in the ATP awards, presented by Melenchon Don. -- by

2:06:32 > 2:06:35Moet & Chandon.A star is indeed born in Canada. Congratulations,

2:06:35 > 2:06:39Dennis.

2:07:29 > 2:07:33Congratulations, Denis It must be a proud moment. How do you look back

2:07:33 > 2:07:39on this year? It's incredible to be here. It's such an honour to win

2:07:39 > 2:07:44these awards. It's so motivating for me. I worked hard all year for this,

2:07:44 > 2:07:49so to actually win this award means everything. It's your first visit to

2:07:49 > 2:07:53the O2. I know you have enjoyed the matches today. How much would you

2:07:53 > 2:07:59love to come back and play one day? I hope to be back one day. So many

2:07:59 > 2:08:03good players deserve to be here so to be named one of the top eight

2:08:03 > 2:08:08would be a dream come true, so I'm going to do everything I can to

2:08:08 > 2:08:12hopefully one day play here. And your ambitions for next year?

2:08:12 > 2:08:18Definitely win in ATP title and probably finish around 25. If

2:08:18 > 2:08:25everything goes well!Well, I'm sure it will, and we wish you all the

2:08:25 > 2:08:29best. Enjoy this moment and the best of luck for the future, Denis

2:08:29 > 2:08:34Shapovalov!Thank you, guys. APPLAUSE

2:08:34 > 2:08:39I think we are going to hear a lot more from this young man, Denis

2:08:39 > 2:08:43Shapovalov, so talented. You and I met him at Queen's Club this summer

2:08:43 > 2:08:49and what the last six months he's had.An amazing last six months, and

2:08:49 > 2:08:52chatting to him at Queen's, where he played a great match against Berdych

2:08:52 > 2:08:55and others, we thought we were watching something special, and we

2:08:55 > 2:09:00were. He beat Rafa Nadal in Canada, in Montreal. A brilliant tournament.

2:09:00 > 2:09:05Fourth round, lost 16, of the US Open. Started the year in happy

2:09:05 > 2:09:12valley in Australia somewhere, and it sounds lovely, but he was in a

2:09:12 > 2:09:16challenger down there and had to work his backside off to get to a

2:09:16 > 2:09:19position where he was even entered in the main tour of tour events, and

2:09:19 > 2:09:23now he ends up 51 in the world or so. A brilliant player with a

2:09:23 > 2:09:28future, and I hope he sticks with the coach he's got. We've got to

2:09:28 > 2:09:34check with him that he still has the same coach. We don't want ask the

2:09:34 > 2:09:37wrong questions!Hopefully he will be joining us as soon as he gets off

2:09:37 > 2:09:43court. Tim, a big game and a big future.Very much so, a lefty,

2:09:43 > 2:09:48aggressive at the back of the court, he uses his serve well, and getting

2:09:48 > 2:09:52better physically all the time. It's a great achievement to be as high as

2:09:52 > 2:09:56he is in the rankings at age 18, because it is a physically demanding

2:09:56 > 2:09:59game, and he is only going to get stronger and faster because he has

2:09:59 > 2:10:04the right attitude to keep working hard. And he will develop his game,

2:10:04 > 2:10:07improved his strengths and weaknesses, but then I think that

2:10:07 > 2:10:11will give him a greater consistency. At times, as he is only just

2:10:11 > 2:10:15breaking through, he has been a bit up and down, but he's going to be

2:10:15 > 2:10:18around for many years.Do you remember when you were 18 what it

2:10:18 > 2:10:25was like to play in the big events? Big events in India, maybe! I'm not

2:10:25 > 2:10:29sure about big events on the tour, no. It's definitely took me probably

2:10:29 > 2:10:35until I was about 21 until I broke into the top 100. Everybody's

2:10:35 > 2:10:39journey is different. Some developed earlier, some later, but he is

2:10:39 > 2:10:43certainly on the right path. As Andrew said, the team around him is

2:10:43 > 2:10:47important. He is on a steep learning curve and it's important he has

2:10:47 > 2:10:50people with experience around him to make sure he makes the right

2:10:50 > 2:10:54decisions, keeps working in the right areas and moving in the right

2:10:54 > 2:11:00direction, but what I see, it all looks good for the future.Boris

2:11:00 > 2:11:03Becker was 17 and won Wimbledon and I didn't think we'd ever see a

2:11:03 > 2:11:08especially with the quality of play. And Michael Chang winning the French

2:11:08 > 2:11:13Open at a young age as well. The days have gone where somebody bursts

2:11:13 > 2:11:19through and win a slam. The players' physicality is changing. They are

2:11:19 > 2:11:22stronger, the science behind the work they do of court, it takes

2:11:22 > 2:11:28longer to put into the system. In terms of sheer shotmaking, applauded

2:11:28 > 2:11:33by Mannarino... I mean, look at this guy! There are shots he plays that

2:11:33 > 2:11:40can only happen if you have a fantastic gift. Brilliant player. He

2:11:40 > 2:11:43can produce so much tennis that nobody else can, including his

2:11:43 > 2:11:48second serve, which kicks like a mule. His second serve, he aces

2:11:48 > 2:11:52people with it even if they know where it is going, where he is

2:11:52 > 2:11:58aiming. It still kicks. He has natural gifts. He is walking up to

2:11:58 > 2:12:01us. Back to Federer, and do you think that was one match too many

2:12:01 > 2:12:06after a long year for the 36-year-old?Not really, and I think

2:12:06 > 2:12:13lots of people will overanalyse it. I don't think Federer played very

2:12:13 > 2:12:17well, and I think Goffin played brilliantly, simple as that. In the

2:12:17 > 2:12:20first set, Federer did everything right, and that early part of the

2:12:20 > 2:12:24second set, when Goffin got the break, he turned the tables. It

2:12:24 > 2:12:29surprised me how he could maintain that level, he didn't blink. Federer

2:12:29 > 2:12:32had break points in the second and third sets and couldn't take them.

2:12:32 > 2:12:37For me, the better player on the day won.We have seen how can turn it

2:12:37 > 2:12:44around somehow. But he didn't look like he was able to.I don't know

2:12:44 > 2:12:47how many times you can keep on calling on that competitive energy

2:12:47 > 2:12:52year after year. We started the week saluting Roger, every time he plays,

2:12:52 > 2:12:56every time he wins the tournament, every time he produces another

2:12:56 > 2:13:02highlight for us to enjoy. He has been out there since he was 14, 15,

2:13:02 > 2:13:0716. That's 20 years. He started a family and it all seems terribly

2:13:07 > 2:13:11exciting in front of 17,500 people, and he loves it, he loves hitting

2:13:11 > 2:13:15the ball, but keep switching on isn't easy on demand. I thought

2:13:15 > 2:13:18adrenaline might kick in in the third set, a survival instinct, but

2:13:18 > 2:13:22I don't think it did. He had a half chance I didn't take it. I think he

2:13:22 > 2:13:28was ready in the last game and then Goffin served brilliantly with two

2:13:28 > 2:13:32aces. So I think Roger needs a rest now. How he manages himself from

2:13:32 > 2:13:36this point will be interesting. He needs to come away so he can come

2:13:36 > 2:13:40back with really enthusiasm each time.He definitely will be, but

2:13:40 > 2:13:46let's salute David Goffin. He looks tired during the week. He was

2:13:46 > 2:13:50struggling this week, and then he came out and played that Kenneth!

2:13:50 > 2:13:55Incredible, against Rafa Nadal, Rafa was struggling with his knees, but

2:13:55 > 2:14:00Goffin put in a great performance, winning that one, great to get his

2:14:00 > 2:14:04first win under his belt. He came out in the next match and got two

2:14:04 > 2:14:07games, and struggled to get votes. You were thinking, what's that going

2:14:07 > 2:14:13to do to his confidence, and when he lost the first three games against

2:14:13 > 2:14:18Thiem, you thought, he could be focusing on the Davis Cup shortly.

2:14:18 > 2:14:24It has just been highs and lows. Semifinals of the world tour final

2:14:24 > 2:14:27against Federer, who he has never beaten in six attempts, he plays two

2:14:27 > 2:14:33of the best sets he has probably ever played in his life. And he

2:14:33 > 2:14:36loses the first set in 35 minutes without ever being in it. We thought

2:14:36 > 2:14:40the first service game would set the tone, but it wasn't to be the case.

2:14:40 > 2:14:46I can't believe he was aiming at that forehand and got away with it!

2:14:46 > 2:14:51Excellent work.He had a post of Federer on his wall when he was

2:14:51 > 2:14:53growing up. To come out and beat your idol, he will have a

2:14:53 > 2:14:59celebration tonight.I think his reaction at the end said it all. He

2:14:59 > 2:15:02dropped his racket and looked around as if to say, did that really

2:15:02 > 2:15:07happen? It's important that he put that behind him, because he has to

2:15:07 > 2:15:13get ready for a massive final. Doesn't it change may be the mindset

2:15:13 > 2:15:18for tonight's match, with Dimitrov and Sock?To be fair, Dimitrov is

2:15:18 > 2:15:23favourite to win this tournament now but so much for my predictions, as

2:15:23 > 2:15:28well as yours, all week! Dimitrov has played some sensational tennis

2:15:28 > 2:15:32this week. I think he has to be favourite. But Jack Sock is in a

2:15:32 > 2:15:37situation where he doesn't feel he can lose. He doesn't play as if he

2:15:37 > 2:15:41feels like the opposition are going to win the last point against him.

2:15:41 > 2:15:46So, you know, perhaps Jack goes in thinking, this is it. Such a great

2:15:46 > 2:15:50run.I'm delighted that Dennis has arrived. Tim, thank you. We will

2:15:50 > 2:15:53make room for Dennis to join us. Let's look back

2:15:53 > 2:15:55make room for Dennis to join us. Let's look back to this magnificent

2:15:55 > 2:15:58victory at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, in front of his home,

2:15:58 > 2:16:03Canadian fans. An 18-year-old on the brink of pulling off one of the

2:16:03 > 2:16:06biggest upsets of the year against world number one Rafael Nadal. Look

2:16:06 > 2:16:18at that! This was quite some victory, wasn't it?We were running

2:16:18 > 2:16:21some of these pictures earlier on the wrong monitor, so sorry, while I

2:16:21 > 2:16:25was talking to you! You can look at Dennis playing and think, wow,

2:16:25 > 2:16:31wouldn't it be nice to be a and this gifted! Wonderful. The backhand... A

2:16:31 > 2:16:34bit of work to be done on the forehand side, and I'm sure that

2:16:34 > 2:16:39will happen over the next few weeks. But a fantastic year that sees him

2:16:39 > 2:16:44going from 250 in the world in the Challenge Tour working his way

2:16:44 > 2:16:47through to moments like this. May there be a lot more excitement

2:16:47 > 2:16:50ahead.Dennis, what did

2:16:50 > 2:16:50there be a lot more excitement ahead.Dennis, what did that moment

2:16:50 > 2:16:57feel like? And unforgettable moment. To be playing Rafa was incredible,

2:16:57 > 2:17:01but to beat him was a dream come true. What was going through your

2:17:01 > 2:17:07mind in the last few points?I was telling myself, at least I had a

2:17:07 > 2:17:11chance, I had a match point, I can tell people I had a match point on

2:17:11 > 2:17:15Rafa. The whole time I was like, I am playing this situation, but the

2:17:15 > 2:17:21crowd did a good job of pumping me up and helping me to stay calm. Just

2:17:21 > 2:17:26pulled through it.And it was a big moment for you down there. How did

2:17:26 > 2:17:29you enjoy it?It was awesome to be on that court and hopefully in a

2:17:29 > 2:17:36couple of years I can be back, playing. And to win two awards!

2:17:36 > 2:17:40Pretty special.Incredible, my whole team has put so much effort into me

2:17:40 > 2:17:44this year, and so have I, so it is really motivating to have a chance,

2:17:44 > 2:17:48first of all, to be nominated for these awards, but to actually win

2:17:48 > 2:17:56them, it's unbelievable.You had a question about the team, didn't you?

2:17:56 > 2:17:59You're not making any changes, are you? Are you going to keep things

2:17:59 > 2:18:05the way they are?Definitely.Have you got a few weeks off before

2:18:05 > 2:18:08Australia is to mockI'm going to go to Florida and train, to bring my

2:18:08 > 2:18:16team down there, my fitness, physio and Marty. What sort of things are

2:18:16 > 2:18:19you working on? The backhand looks strong. Your serve looks

2:18:19 > 2:18:25unbelievable. Do you consider the forehand a shot you want to work on?

2:18:25 > 2:18:29I think my forehand is my big weapon but it could improve. My slice could

2:18:29 > 2:18:34improve, my returns and volleys, so many aspects we can work on. They

2:18:34 > 2:18:39could make a difference for next season. Also, physically, I want to

2:18:39 > 2:18:43improve. Just working a lot on my footwork, making sure my steps are

2:18:43 > 2:18:51sharp, and stepping up to the ball well. You've had a wonderful few

2:18:51 > 2:18:54weeks in the summer, because we showed Rafa but you also beat Del

2:18:54 > 2:18:58Potro. Did things change for you? You were launched into the

2:18:58 > 2:19:04spotlight.Definitely. I went from being an underdog, not knowing that

2:19:04 > 2:19:10well, to being suddenly in the spotlight. The following week, US

2:19:10 > 2:19:15Open, qualifying...That isn't easy. Yes, very difficult, but I managed

2:19:15 > 2:19:19to play well and I was on the news a lot, so my life definitely changed.

2:19:19 > 2:19:25Yes. I think for the better. I get to play more ATP tournaments, I get

2:19:25 > 2:19:31to travel and tour. Just do what I always dream of doing. And then you

2:19:31 > 2:19:35went on at the US Open and you beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, one big name

2:19:35 > 2:19:41after another! Do you enjoy the big occasions more?Definitely, it was

2:19:41 > 2:19:45so fun to be at the Arthur Ashe stadium in front of all of these

2:19:45 > 2:19:49people. It was crazy. I just go out there and have fun. Being 18, there

2:19:49 > 2:19:54is nothing to and I just enjoyed my time. I really tried to take

2:19:54 > 2:20:00advantage of the situation and I think I did a good job.What did you

2:20:00 > 2:20:05make of that match? You were sitting courtside. It was incredible. I

2:20:05 > 2:20:09think David played unbelievable. He was going for his shots, not

2:20:09 > 2:20:13hesitating. At one point, I thought he was going to slow down and Roger

2:20:13 > 2:20:17would come back, but he was serving big at the end, still going for his

2:20:17 > 2:20:23strokes, so he played really well. Who was the player you admired most

2:20:23 > 2:20:29growing up?Roger. I had pictures of him on my wall that I would wake up

2:20:29 > 2:20:33and go to sleep and just trying to copy my game to be like his.You

2:20:33 > 2:20:38were three years old when he won his first Wimbledon! This is how long

2:20:38 > 2:20:42Roger has been out there. No wonder everybody looks up to him. I was

2:20:42 > 2:20:49interested in your life changed. Your friends and family, everybody

2:20:49 > 2:20:55relates to you differently when you are a start on the TV.I bet mum

2:20:55 > 2:21:01doesn't.Does she still tell you of? My family and friends still treat me

2:21:01 > 2:21:05the same way that I was two or three years ago. For me, that's important.

2:21:05 > 2:21:11To stay the same person, you know. That is how I was raised, and I

2:21:11 > 2:21:15believe it should be like that. I am very lucky to have such good parents

2:21:15 > 2:21:26and their brother who will pick my ask -- who will kick my behind if I

2:21:26 > 2:21:31start acting up.Do you have a girlfriend?Stop asking these

2:21:31 > 2:21:37questions!Just say, I don't want to answer that.Changing the subject,

2:21:37 > 2:21:44have you felt the pressure of the expectations that are now on you?

2:21:44 > 2:21:48Definitely, the second half of the season, it was difficult and I was

2:21:48 > 2:21:52running into some difficult draws and top players. I was going through

2:21:52 > 2:22:00some things, being sick, not playing well, kind of losing my rhythm. But,

2:22:00 > 2:22:03you know, I still felt, actually, towards the next gen finals, I

2:22:03 > 2:22:06started finding my game again and was playing well. But that is just

2:22:06 > 2:22:11how the sport goes. You can be playing well and then you run into

2:22:11 > 2:22:15some bad draws and you are losing and, suddenly, you win one match and

2:22:15 > 2:22:22you pick your game up. I'm very happy with where I left off.

2:22:22 > 2:22:26Starting outside 250 and now just 51 in the world, and you were inside

2:22:26 > 2:22:30the top 50 earlier, an unbelievable year. Points to defend and

2:22:30 > 2:22:34everything next year, but such an exciting group of youngsters coming

2:22:34 > 2:22:38up.Definitely, there are so many good young guys coming up. I think

2:22:38 > 2:22:42it's great that they made this next gen tournament for the young

2:22:42 > 2:22:47players, because there are so many guys that are going to be huge

2:22:47 > 2:22:50stars. Even though there are only eight in that tournament, there are

2:22:50 > 2:22:53countless others that deserve to be there, and they are going to be

2:22:53 > 2:22:58great players. It's really good to see these young guys coming up side

2:22:58 > 2:23:01by side, and it's great that we already get along. It's a nice

2:23:01 > 2:23:06atmosphere.You are one of the most exciting of all, and we appreciate

2:23:06 > 2:23:12you coming up here. Congratulations. Before we go, we're going to look at

2:23:12 > 2:23:14Grigor Dimitrov, who plays Jack Sock in the second semifinal perceiving,

2:23:14 > 2:23:21and he has been talking to us about finally fulfilling his potential. --

2:23:21 > 2:23:23in the second semifinal this evening. Two or three years ago when

2:23:23 > 2:23:30I was at my lowest, I had pretty much embrace everything, and I was

2:23:30 > 2:23:35never a guy that doesn't like to practice. I like to go in the gym

2:23:35 > 2:23:40and all that was I was in such a different headspace. My mobility

2:23:40 > 2:23:48wasn't good enough. Everything was just kind of crumbling down for me,

2:23:48 > 2:23:53and this is far more assets to I have to stop with this thing. I

2:23:53 > 2:23:56structured a good team around me and step-by-step I've started to be

2:23:56 > 2:24:01better. Everybody deserves credit for that. To come out on court every

2:24:01 > 2:24:05day just give a little something, you know, that adds up in the

2:24:05 > 2:24:13long-term. You put the platform but you still need to build stuff.

2:24:13 > 2:24:15Everybody just brings positive ideas, positive thoughts, and

2:24:15 > 2:24:23step-by-step I'm starting to fall into that good track again and

2:24:23 > 2:24:28embrace everything else along the way.Talking a good game, isn't he?

2:24:28 > 2:24:33He has got better and better with matches.Yeah, talking a good game

2:24:33 > 2:24:39and playing a good game. For me, he has had the best performances of the

2:24:39 > 2:24:41tournament, in terms of his consistency is the level he has

2:24:41 > 2:24:46played. It will be interesting against Sock, with their head to

2:24:46 > 2:24:50head, because I think Dimitrov is the favourite, but he has lost all

2:24:50 > 2:24:56three of the four occasions.Twice he has had match point and he lost

2:24:56 > 2:25:02to Sock.Will be interesting.A totally different match for these

2:25:02 > 2:25:06players tonight, but Dimitrov seems to have the game and the desire, and

2:25:06 > 2:25:11he is coming of age, isn't he? Everybody arrived at that point

2:25:11 > 2:25:16where they think, this is the career I've chosen and I want to achieve my

2:25:16 > 2:25:20potential. I don't need to be going out quite so much. I want to put the

2:25:20 > 2:25:24extra timing on the court and maximise my potential. I don't want

2:25:24 > 2:25:28to go through my career and not achieve what I should have. I think

2:25:28 > 2:25:31Grigor Dimitrov is there. He said that at the start of the year, when

2:25:31 > 2:25:34he went to the semifinal of the Australian Open and played one of

2:25:34 > 2:25:38the matches of the year against Nadal. I can't believe he lost it.

2:25:38 > 2:25:43From the word go this year, he has been focused, so well done to

2:25:43 > 2:25:48Grigor, who is 26 and producing his best tennis. I think we have seen

2:25:48 > 2:25:50him elevate it to a level he has never played before. He has always

2:25:50 > 2:25:56had the shots but now it seems he has the belief. He has always had

2:25:56 > 2:26:00the shots and pieces of the puzzle but, mentally, I think he struggled

2:26:00 > 2:26:03to really understand the best way for him to play to his strengths

2:26:03 > 2:26:10and, to deal with the expectation of the court, people saying he was the

2:26:10 > 2:26:14next Federer, which was probably a bit unfair. He has really turned

2:26:14 > 2:26:19things around. Not so long ago, he was down at 40 in the world, and you

2:26:19 > 2:26:22said, I got this guy, with such great athletic ability, who works

2:26:22 > 2:26:28really hard and has great shots, how can he be ranked at 40? It is about

2:26:28 > 2:26:31playing to your strengths and putting the pieces of the puzzle

2:26:31 > 2:26:35together, and I have been impressed with how he has played. I thought

2:26:35 > 2:26:38that match against Goffin would be tricky for him in the group stages,

2:26:38 > 2:26:43but he destroyed him by being patient from the back of the court,

2:26:43 > 2:26:47waiting for his opportunity and playing aggressively, going for his

2:26:47 > 2:26:50shots and not making unforced errors. That is what Federer was

2:26:50 > 2:26:55trying to do today but he couldn't do itDimitrov Gethsemane shots, but

2:26:55 > 2:27:00I guess it is difficult to know which one to use when, when you have

2:27:00 > 2:27:04people writing. -- Dimitrov has got so many shots.Nothing wrong with

2:27:04 > 2:27:12your game pigs he had a great junior career. He was prepared to go home

2:27:12 > 2:27:16-- to leave home at an early age. He has paid the price for a long time

2:27:16 > 2:27:21and now it is definitely Dimitrov's moment. Only a couple of areas which

2:27:21 > 2:27:25might be difficult, the second serve, Jack Sock will try and get on

2:27:25 > 2:27:30top of that and trying to bully him from the back of the court, because

2:27:30 > 2:27:35the Sock forehand is enormous.I think we have learned that anything

2:27:35 > 2:27:40can happen in tennis today. Jack Sock is an incredible competitor. He

2:27:40 > 2:27:44is, and his year has turned around. 24 in the world going into Paris, he

2:27:44 > 2:27:48wins that, he qualifies here, he plays Federer in the first round

2:27:48 > 2:27:52and, in the first match, he loses that Bob gets to sample the occasion

2:27:52 > 2:27:58and, boy, is he taking that opportunity. It's very important now

2:27:58 > 2:28:05that they've focused on the process, not the outcome, because it would be

2:28:05 > 2:28:10easy to get distracted.Three debutants.And who would have

2:28:10 > 2:28:16thought that!We got it all wrong, all week!A huge shock today, with

2:28:16 > 2:28:19David Goffin defeating Roger Federer. Tonight, it is Jack Sock

2:28:19 > 2:28:23against Grigor Dimitrov. When of that play in the final. We will be

2:28:23 > 2:28:29on air at 6pm on BBC Two tomorrow, but David Goffin today beat his idol

2:28:29 > 2:28:38for the first time, the man he had on a poster on the wall.A great

2:28:38 > 2:28:43reception for both players. Federer in a different league. What is going

2:28:43 > 2:28:48on? That's just naughty. That was a little bit special from Federer. And

2:28:48 > 2:28:54he's got the break! They are into a decider. Goffin just continues to

2:28:54 > 2:28:59impress. Tennis
