0:00:33 > 0:00:35Hello, and a very warm welcome
0:00:35 > 0:00:38to The Adventure Show. This month, we're at the spiritual home of
0:00:38 > 0:00:40mountain biking in Scotland,
0:00:40 > 0:00:44Fort William, for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47This is a sport that the Brits excel at and in the downhill this year, we have
0:00:47 > 0:00:50Steve Peat and Tracy Moseley, both winners here in the past,
0:00:50 > 0:00:54the fantastic Atherton family, and Scott Beaumont in the four-cross.
0:00:54 > 0:00:58And let us not forget Gee Atherton won the downhill here last year, but he'll be up against some serious
0:00:58 > 0:01:02competition from around the world, so it will be tough for a Brit to get on the podium.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04But whoever wins it,
0:01:04 > 0:01:07he will have deserved it. Do you fancy that, Duncan?
0:01:07 > 0:01:14- After you.- No, thank you. Watch, you'll hurt yourself. - 'Always really fun to ride here...'
0:01:14 > 0:01:17and with all the Scottish fans
0:01:17 > 0:01:20and all the riders that love this place.
0:01:20 > 0:01:24I like the straights, long and hard and beats you up, but it's good.
0:01:24 > 0:01:28And to find out exactly how tough the Fort William Downhill
0:01:28 > 0:01:32course really is, Duncan will be giving it his best shot later.
0:01:32 > 0:01:34That should be a ride to watch.
0:01:34 > 0:01:38And north of here, we're off to Glen Affric to discover what's the best
0:01:38 > 0:01:41kit for a wild two-day trip into the Scottish hills.
0:01:41 > 0:01:47As a famous comedian once said, there's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.
0:01:47 > 0:01:50But first to the action here at Fort William, and there are
0:01:50 > 0:01:53two key disciplines in the Mountain Bike World Cup.
0:01:53 > 0:01:57Later in the programme, we'll be following the fortunes of the downhill racers, as they hurtle
0:01:57 > 0:02:00almost three kilometres down the ninth highest mountain in the UK,
0:02:00 > 0:02:03and they do it all in less than five minutes.
0:02:03 > 0:02:06But we're going to start with the fabulous four-cross, a shoulder-to-shoulder
0:02:06 > 0:02:10battle down this incredible course. Earlier on,
0:02:10 > 0:02:12we sent Scott Beaumont, currently ranked tenth in the world,
0:02:12 > 0:02:16down the course with a camera to show us what it's really like.
0:02:16 > 0:02:23The four-cross is a power event. It's a 40-to-a-minute-long sprint race.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25It's basically a game of, like, speed chess. Someone just makes a move
0:02:25 > 0:02:28and you have to compensate to that and react to
0:02:28 > 0:02:31what they've done. You're out there learning the track and learning where
0:02:31 > 0:02:39it's slippy and grippy and where potentially you could be overtaken or suffer some crashes or whatever.
0:02:39 > 0:02:42OK, at the start, big double jump,
0:02:42 > 0:02:43single, into a step down.
0:02:43 > 0:02:47Passing doesn't really take place on the straights. It's on the corners.
0:02:47 > 0:02:52The second corner is really tight and you have to slow down a little bit for that.
0:02:52 > 0:02:56This is the loosest corner on the whole track.
0:02:56 > 0:03:00Hop out onto the grass, and mind the spectators here.
0:03:00 > 0:03:03OK, and here's a rock section, dropping down.
0:03:03 > 0:03:07So on the straights, you try and get as close as possible to set up the pass on the corners,
0:03:07 > 0:03:12and sometimes, there's contact and that's inevitable. Rhythm section.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14Double double. Last corner.
0:03:14 > 0:03:18And the last couple of corners will be real good passing places.
0:03:18 > 0:03:20I think that's where the action's going to be.
0:03:20 > 0:03:22And across the finish line.
0:03:22 > 0:03:25That's a run down Fort William four-cross track.
0:03:25 > 0:03:29Time now for the women's four-cross, and everyone's after the best seat.
0:03:29 > 0:03:32We're joining the action for the first semi-final.
0:03:32 > 0:03:35The fastest make it down this 410-metre course in under 40 seconds
0:03:35 > 0:03:39and the winning two from each heat go through to the final.
0:03:39 > 0:03:46Lining up at the top, it's Luana De Souza from Brazil. Next to her, Lucia Oetjen from Switzerland.
0:03:46 > 0:03:53And then it's France's Celine Gros. And finally, on the far left, Melissa Buhl from America.
0:03:53 > 0:03:56So eyes on for the green light. There it is!
0:03:56 > 0:03:59They're off! Straight into the first set of humps and bumps,
0:03:59 > 0:04:05and it's Melissa Buhl and Lucia Oetjen taking the early lead as they head in towards the first bend.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08Both women hugely experienced four-cross riders, but Melissa
0:04:08 > 0:04:13didn't compete much last year, but both know this course very well.
0:04:13 > 0:04:19So... Oh, foot down from Melissa there. That'll cost her time.
0:04:20 > 0:04:23And the marker post... Another mistake from Buhl!
0:04:23 > 0:04:24Who's taken advantage?
0:04:24 > 0:04:28It's Celine Gros who's pushed ahead. Gros taking the lead with Oetjen
0:04:28 > 0:04:31just behind, as they head towards the final corners.
0:04:31 > 0:04:35That's a huge mistake from Melissa Buhl. She'll be absolutely furious.
0:04:35 > 0:04:38Heading down towards the end. Gros has taken the lead.
0:04:38 > 0:04:43Who will get that second place? It's Switzerland's Lucia Oetjen, who's kept a consistent line throughout.
0:04:43 > 0:04:48So it's Buhl and De Souza out, Gros and Oetjen through to the finals.
0:04:48 > 0:04:52In the second semi-final, the surprise rider on the far right
0:04:52 > 0:04:56is Britain's Joey Gough. She's been concentrating on BMX, so this is her first
0:04:56 > 0:05:00Fort William appearance since 2007. Next to her, another Brit who's recently proved to be
0:05:00 > 0:05:04a contender for podium position, Nicola Anderson. Then comes Steffi Marth from Germany.
0:05:04 > 0:05:08Finally, the favourite to win, Anneke Beerten from the Netherlands.
0:05:08 > 0:05:12Two Brits in the semi, and they're off! A great start from Joey Gough.
0:05:12 > 0:05:16What's happened to Nicola? She's nearly off. Feet all over the place!
0:05:16 > 0:05:19She has just hung on at the back of the pack.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22It's Joey Gough taking the lead, with Steffi Marth in second place.
0:05:22 > 0:05:27But Joey is way out in front. An amazing comeback
0:05:27 > 0:05:29after four years out of competitive riding.
0:05:29 > 0:05:32She just needs to keep her cool and keep pedalling hard.
0:05:32 > 0:05:37Looking very, very tasty for Joey as they come over the rock section.
0:05:37 > 0:05:39Such a tricky part of the course.
0:05:39 > 0:05:41Anneke Beerten now hard on her heels.
0:05:41 > 0:05:44Nicola way back in the rear.
0:05:44 > 0:05:46Down to the final bend, Joey's still in the lead,
0:05:46 > 0:05:49Anneke second over the final hump, and a sprint to the finish!
0:05:49 > 0:05:51What an amazing ride for the British girl!
0:05:51 > 0:05:54Over the line first, with Anneke Beerten just behind her.
0:05:54 > 0:05:56Steffi Marth and Nicola Anderson are out.
0:05:56 > 0:06:01It's Joey Gough and Anneke Beerten through to the finals.
0:06:01 > 0:06:03This is how it looks as they line up for
0:06:03 > 0:06:05the final of the women's four-cross
0:06:05 > 0:06:122011. Taking her place on the far right is Britain's Joey Gough. Next to her, Celine Gros from France.
0:06:12 > 0:06:18Then it's Anneke Beerten from the Netherlands. And finally, Switzerland's Lucia Oetjen.
0:06:18 > 0:06:21All eyes on the gate. It's down and they're off!
0:06:21 > 0:06:24Vital to get off to a good start and Joey's doing pretty well.
0:06:24 > 0:06:26Out in the lead with Anneke Beerten right behind.
0:06:26 > 0:06:29This is amazing round the first bend.
0:06:29 > 0:06:34Over the step down on table top, and Joey Gough is still riding out in front.
0:06:34 > 0:06:40Anneke so experienced, been riding BMX since the age of four and twice world champion in that discipline.
0:06:40 > 0:06:42Experience is looking good, though.
0:06:42 > 0:06:47Round into the rocky section and, yes, she's pushed through, taking the lead from Joey!
0:06:47 > 0:06:53She won the first four-cross race of the season in South Africa and she's really powering ahead now.
0:06:53 > 0:06:58Came fourth here last year, but today, her nearest rival, Joey Gough, cannot reach her.
0:06:58 > 0:07:03Anneke over the last hump, into the final sprint to the finish.
0:07:03 > 0:07:08Yes, indeed, it's Anneke Beerten, with Joey Gough taking a great second place.
0:07:08 > 0:07:09But look at the winner here today.
0:07:09 > 0:07:13Anneke Beerten, exhausted but elated.
0:07:13 > 0:07:15I've been racing here for probably eight or nine years
0:07:15 > 0:07:20and I got a second, I got a third, I got a fifth, but I never won.
0:07:20 > 0:07:25I knew from the run before that Joey was taking the turn a little bit wide and I just went for it.
0:07:25 > 0:07:27If you see a gap, you've just got to go for it.
0:07:27 > 0:07:30And finally getting a win is the best. It's really good.
0:07:30 > 0:07:35But taking second place is an amazing achievement for Joey Gough, who's been out of
0:07:35 > 0:07:38the four-cross competition circuit for the last four years.
0:07:38 > 0:07:41To be honest, I couldn't believe I was in the lead.
0:07:41 > 0:07:44I was like, I'm just here having a good time, and I was in the lead.
0:07:44 > 0:07:49Those bits round those corners aren't my best part and Anneke rode awesome.
0:07:49 > 0:07:51I'm just psyched to be second.
0:07:51 > 0:07:54Confirmation of those final results: Fourth place
0:07:54 > 0:07:59in the 2011 women's four-cross went to Celine Gros
0:07:59 > 0:08:01of France. Switzerland's Lucia Oetjen came in third.
0:08:01 > 0:08:05That great ride from Britain's Joey Gough put her into second place.
0:08:05 > 0:08:07But out in front to take first
0:08:07 > 0:08:09was Anneke Beerten from the Netherlands.
0:08:10 > 0:08:13And now for the men's four-cross.
0:08:13 > 0:08:15Unfortunately, Britain's top rider, Dan Atherton, is still
0:08:15 > 0:08:19recovering from a pretty serious neck injury he sustained last year.
0:08:19 > 0:08:23But our hopes lie with Scott Beaumont, who achieved a pretty credible tenth on the first race of
0:08:23 > 0:08:30the season, and he's up against the world's number one and number two, Jared Graves and Tomas Slavik.
0:08:30 > 0:08:33'In four-cross, you need to have specialist skills'
0:08:33 > 0:08:37as a downhill rider and skills, or the power, as a BMX rider.
0:08:37 > 0:08:41It's just not about one thing, it's about many things.
0:08:41 > 0:08:43My plan is always just try and lead from the start, get out,
0:08:43 > 0:08:47get a good start, get to the front and use the practice time wisely
0:08:47 > 0:08:51to know where to cover your passes, so you can stay in front.
0:08:51 > 0:08:56In the early heats of today's competition, the Brits didn't manage to stay out in front.
0:08:56 > 0:09:00Scott Beaumont made it through the first round, but was knocked out before the quarter-finals.
0:09:00 > 0:09:05This is an unpredictable sport and one that takes no prisoners.
0:09:05 > 0:09:08We're joining the action for the first of the semi-finals,
0:09:08 > 0:09:11and the four contenders at the top of the course are...
0:09:11 > 0:09:17Romain Saladini from France, then this year's number one four-cross rider, Australia's Jared Graves.
0:09:17 > 0:09:21He's right next to his rival, Tomas Slavik from the Czech Republic,
0:09:21 > 0:09:24and on the far left, it's Swiss rider Roger Rinderknecht.
0:09:24 > 0:09:28The gate's down, they're off. But as they head over the first hump,
0:09:28 > 0:09:31Tomas Slavik maybe just got the edge on Jared Graves.
0:09:31 > 0:09:35Tomas crashed out in the first race of this year's World Cup, but that's not affecting his riding today.
0:09:35 > 0:09:38He's increasing that lead as the forerunners sweep round the second corner,
0:09:38 > 0:09:43head towards the difficult rocky section. And look at that!
0:09:43 > 0:09:45Roger Rinderknecht's on the inside line. He's pushed ahead of
0:09:45 > 0:09:47Jared Graves to take second place.
0:09:47 > 0:09:52It's just the first two who go through, so Jared needs to pull something out now.
0:09:52 > 0:09:55As they sprint towards the final corner,
0:09:55 > 0:10:01Tomas Slavik and Roger Rinderknecht comfortably out in front in the world champion's jersey.
0:10:01 > 0:10:04Slavik over the line first, Rinderknecht a split second behind.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07They're through to the finals. Saladini and Graves out.
0:10:09 > 0:10:13Now for the second semi are Michael Mechura from the Czech Republic.
0:10:13 > 0:10:17Next to him, it's fellow Czech rider, Michael Prokop.
0:10:17 > 0:10:23Then it's David Graf from Switzerland. And on the left is Joost Wichman from the Netherlands.
0:10:23 > 0:10:24The gate's down and they're off!
0:10:24 > 0:10:28Really close at the start, but Michael Prokop's ahead of David Graf
0:10:28 > 0:10:31and Joost Wichman fighting it out for second place.
0:10:31 > 0:10:33Wichman's put on the speed.
0:10:33 > 0:10:35He's crept in front of Graf.
0:10:35 > 0:10:40Only started four-cross in 2006, but riding BMX since the age of four.
0:10:40 > 0:10:43Wichman's dropped down into fourth place.
0:10:43 > 0:10:45Mechura's been pushed off by Graf.
0:10:45 > 0:10:48Oh, my goodness, look at this! What a mess!
0:10:48 > 0:10:50Prokop and Wichman battling it out for the lead.
0:10:50 > 0:10:55The leaders have just got to keep it cool and head towards the line.
0:10:55 > 0:10:58What's going on!? Another crash. Prokop and Wichman both down,
0:10:58 > 0:11:02which means Graf takes the lead, but it's Wichman up and riding first.
0:11:02 > 0:11:04Into the home straight.
0:11:04 > 0:11:07Graf's over the line first, but Wichman, who was down in fourth,
0:11:07 > 0:11:11then knocked off his bike, has done enough to secure himself a place in the finals.
0:11:11 > 0:11:16Wichman and Graf go through. Mechura and Prokop will be angry, but they're out.
0:11:16 > 0:11:21And this is how they line up for the 2011 men's four-cross finals.
0:11:21 > 0:11:26Swiss rider David Graf takes the far right lane, with Joost Wichman next from the Netherlands.
0:11:26 > 0:11:32Tomas Slavik from the Czech Republic is next. And on the far left, Roger Rinderknecht from Switzerland.
0:11:32 > 0:11:36So, all eyes on the gate... It's down and they're off!
0:11:36 > 0:11:39They sprint over the bumps towards the first corner,
0:11:39 > 0:11:44and it's Joost Wichman taking the early lead, with Roger Rinderknecht a close second.
0:11:44 > 0:11:46But watch out for David Graf.
0:11:46 > 0:11:50He's showed what he's made of in that last second semi-final heat.
0:11:50 > 0:11:51Graf putting the pressure on Rinderknecht.
0:11:51 > 0:11:56Slavik currently bringing up the rear, as they head out into the second corner.
0:11:56 > 0:11:59So, into the rock slabs next...
0:11:59 > 0:12:02Oh, my goodness! Wichman is off his bike!
0:12:02 > 0:12:04Tripped over his own wheel, bike flying everywhere.
0:12:04 > 0:12:07He's taken Slavik out as well, so the field's wide open.
0:12:07 > 0:12:11Rinderknecht into the lead, round the final corner towards the home straight.
0:12:11 > 0:12:16It's Rinderknecht over the line first, with fellow Swiss rider David Graf taking second place.
0:12:16 > 0:12:19Thumbs up for that.
0:12:19 > 0:12:20But Wichman's gutted.
0:12:20 > 0:12:24He's not physically hurt, but after that fantastic start to the final,
0:12:24 > 0:12:28with the chance of a win here at Fort William, he'll be finishing in fourth place.
0:12:28 > 0:12:32That crash really was a monster, something he'll remember for years,
0:12:32 > 0:12:37and that's why Fort William is quite simply sensational.
0:12:37 > 0:12:40Confirmation of those results. A disappointing fourth
0:12:40 > 0:12:43for Joost Wichman from the Netherlands, third for Tomas Slavik
0:12:43 > 0:12:47from the Czech Republic, but the top two places go to Switzerland.
0:12:47 > 0:12:49David Graf comes in second.
0:12:49 > 0:12:50And heading up the leader-board
0:12:50 > 0:12:54for his very first win here at Fort William is Roger Rinderknecht.
0:12:54 > 0:12:57It's always been a dream to put in a good result here in Fort William.
0:12:57 > 0:13:04I have been here a couple of years and I think I never finished in the top three here.
0:13:04 > 0:13:06Winning this one feels amazing.
0:13:06 > 0:13:11Still to come on The Adventure Show, we'll be joining some of Scotland's best riders
0:13:11 > 0:13:16as they prepare for this event, then we'll be in the thick of the action for the brutal downhill race.
0:13:16 > 0:13:19But for the moment, we're leaving Fort William and tackling Scottish mountains
0:13:19 > 0:13:21at a slightly more sedate pace.
0:13:21 > 0:13:24If you are going to spend some time in the hills in this country,
0:13:24 > 0:13:29especially if you're going to spend the night, it's essential you have the right equipment.
0:13:29 > 0:13:32Cameron McNeish and Deziree Wilson have joined forces
0:13:32 > 0:13:35to give us the low-down of the best gear for the job.
0:13:42 > 0:13:49Over the next two days, Deziree and I are heading into Glen Affric, to the isolated youth hostel at Alltbeithe.
0:13:49 > 0:13:53In the course of about 15 miles, we'll be putting both a selection
0:13:53 > 0:13:57of jackets and lightweight tents through their paces.
0:13:57 > 0:14:01And to help us with the big task of getting everything in and out again,
0:14:01 > 0:14:05we've asked mountain men Fraser Fotheringham and Roy Stark to give us a hand.
0:14:05 > 0:14:10And with this sort of gear on test, for once, we're actually hoping for bad weather.
0:14:10 > 0:14:14Buying outdoor gear is always a big decision, and in the next few programmes,
0:14:14 > 0:14:17maybe we can make that just a wee bit easier.
0:14:17 > 0:14:21So, what sort of things do you look for in a good waterproof jacket?
0:14:21 > 0:14:24Apart from a nice colour, you mean?
0:14:24 > 0:14:27Things just feel quite pricey these days, don't they?
0:14:27 > 0:14:32You can spend a fair few hundred pounds on a jacket, so I'm certainly thinking about price.
0:14:32 > 0:14:37Outdoor kit has become quite trendy in a way and almost quite sexy, a lot more so than it used to be,
0:14:37 > 0:14:41really quite good-looking and bright colours and things like that.
0:14:41 > 0:14:47It's almost targeting a different kind of market from maybe what it did 10, 15 years ago.
0:14:50 > 0:14:54A real bugbear I've got as a hill-walker is that I often feel
0:14:54 > 0:14:58that mountaineering jackets are designed by climbers for climbers.
0:14:58 > 0:15:01Even if it's the hill-walker's model, they'll tell you, "Fabulous hood,
0:15:01 > 0:15:04"very voluminous that can cover a climbing helmet."
0:15:04 > 0:15:08I'll say, "I don't wear a climbing helmet!" So maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned.
0:15:11 > 0:15:13I have to say, this jacket's
0:15:13 > 0:15:15performing quite well, apart from the colour.
0:15:15 > 0:15:18I've got a lot of friends who'd say, "There's no way
0:15:18 > 0:15:21- "I'd wear that colour." - It's quite bright, isn't it? - A wee bit like a Belisha beacon.
0:15:21 > 0:15:27But I like it. It's got this quite nice pocket, which is fairly deep and I guess you could get a map in there.
0:15:27 > 0:15:32But what I really like about it pocket-wise is inside are these two big poacher pockets.
0:15:32 > 0:15:34- You could get a salmon in there.- I've got...
0:15:34 > 0:15:38pit zips here, which are great for just a bit of extra breathability,
0:15:38 > 0:15:42But the pockets that I have are longer. They come further up.
0:15:42 > 0:15:46They also open from the bottom as well, which is a really good idea, so I could actually, if I had my
0:15:46 > 0:15:50hip belt on there, I could still get my hands in my pockets for walking along.
0:15:50 > 0:15:54One thing I really noticed when I was walking up here is it felt really breathable.
0:15:54 > 0:15:57I wasn't sweating at all. That might be partly to do with
0:15:57 > 0:16:02the fact that there's this sort of liner here too. It does make it feel a little bit bulky, though.
0:16:02 > 0:16:10So, for 225 quid, middle of the range, the Mammut Kiruna jacket, I think, is pretty good.
0:16:16 > 0:16:18Let's try another jacket on now. What have you got in mind?
0:16:18 > 0:16:22Well, at the top of my rucksack here, I have Craghoppers.
0:16:22 > 0:16:26Slightly more budget-priced. I'm wary about talking about budget prices.
0:16:26 > 0:16:27These jackets
0:16:27 > 0:16:31are £160. That's still an awful lot of money, but in terms of
0:16:31 > 0:16:37what technical outdoor jackets cost, it's probably at the lower end.
0:16:39 > 0:16:42What are your first impressions, Deziree?
0:16:42 > 0:16:45I was a little bit dubious about whether I'd be able to use
0:16:45 > 0:16:52these pockets if I had a hip belt done up, but actually,
0:16:52 > 0:16:54I can fit them in just fine below the hip belt,
0:16:54 > 0:16:59so potentially could walk along without poles with my hands in my pockets quite comfortably, I think.
0:16:59 > 0:17:03- What about you? - It really is a winter jacket, but it's the sort of jacket,
0:17:03 > 0:17:08if somebody's just wanting to buy one jacket to do them all year round, to use in the summer for hill-walking
0:17:08 > 0:17:13and in the winter and everything, this would be a good jacket, actually. Any negatives?
0:17:13 > 0:17:18Well, I have to say that this is not my kind of colour.
0:17:18 > 0:17:22And it would probably be one of the things that I would look for first of all in a jacket.
0:17:22 > 0:17:26I know that might sound shallow, but a lot of people really like
0:17:26 > 0:17:29earthy colours or muted colours, so I think a lot of people would like it.
0:17:29 > 0:17:32- You get a heck of a lot for your money.- Good, I think.
0:17:39 > 0:17:43So, do you get an opportunity very often to come on a backpacking trip like this?
0:17:43 > 0:17:47I was thinking as we were walking up there that I don't very often these days
0:17:47 > 0:17:50come into the hills just to walk any more. I used to do it a lot,
0:17:50 > 0:17:54I used to do it a lot for work, and I tend now to come in to go climbing,
0:17:54 > 0:17:59or to access a ski descent, or a mountain bike descent, and I was just thinking how nice it was
0:17:59 > 0:18:05to be in the mountains today just walking, cos there's a simplicity about it that's really lovely.
0:18:05 > 0:18:09- It feels good to be reaching the high point, Cameron.- It is, aye.
0:18:09 > 0:18:12It's the highest point of our walk.
0:18:12 > 0:18:15The Bealach na Sgairne.
0:18:21 > 0:18:27- So, this is a rather nice jacket. I love the colour of that. How has it performed?- It's quite a new
0:18:27 > 0:18:30kind of fabric, I think, this NeoShell,
0:18:30 > 0:18:33because I think it looks, feels and performs
0:18:33 > 0:18:39like a soft shell, but it's sort of technically waterproof as well, or certainly highly water-resistant.
0:18:39 > 0:18:43It's really lightweight, really comfortable, not bulky at all,
0:18:43 > 0:18:47and I haven't been sweating in it, so it feels like it's really breathable.
0:18:52 > 0:18:54This one I'm wearing is from a company called GoLite,
0:18:54 > 0:18:58an American company, who are very much into, as the name would suggest,
0:18:58 > 0:19:02lightweight equipment, although this one isn't terribly lightweight.
0:19:02 > 0:19:06It's a pretty standard jacket, I have to say. It's not a Gore-Tex jacket.
0:19:06 > 0:19:10They use their own Trinity fabric in this, which is supposed to be breathable and waterproof,
0:19:10 > 0:19:13and it's been fairly breathable.
0:19:13 > 0:19:16It's slightly damp inside, I have to say.
0:19:16 > 0:19:19The pockets are absolutely useless with a hip belt.
0:19:19 > 0:19:23I've worn a lot of GoLite jackets over the years and this certainly isn't the best.
0:19:29 > 0:19:33- We've got one jacket left to wear today. Shall we get them on? - Yep, let's do that.
0:19:35 > 0:19:37It feels really big and bulky.
0:19:37 > 0:19:40It feels like there's a lot of fabric round about here.
0:19:40 > 0:19:42I guess it's quite a robust jacket.
0:19:42 > 0:19:44The fabric feels quite heavy.
0:19:44 > 0:19:50These jackets go by the same name - the High Trails men's and the High Trails ladies',
0:19:50 > 0:19:53- but they're quite different.- They are, yes.- The pockets are different.
0:19:53 > 0:19:57I think my bugbear about this jacket, which isn't too bad -
0:19:57 > 0:20:00I think it's a good all-round good jacket - but it's heavy.
0:20:00 > 0:20:03- Yes.- 770 grams. Now, even for winter,
0:20:03 > 0:20:06I'd be looking for something in the region of 500, 550 grams.
0:20:06 > 0:20:14But having said that, lots of people like the security of a big heavy jacket, particularly in winter-time,
0:20:14 > 0:20:16and with this jacket, that's exactly what they'd get.
0:20:23 > 0:20:25- It's a lovely spot here, isn't it? - Isn't it terrific?
0:20:25 > 0:20:28And it's a lovely place to camp.
0:20:28 > 0:20:31But we'd better go on a wee bit towards Alltbeithe Youth Hostel because,
0:20:31 > 0:20:36with a bit of luck, Fraser and Roy will have brought the tents in there and will have put them all up for us.
0:20:36 > 0:20:41Do you think they will, or do you think they'll be sat with their feet up having a cup of tea?!
0:20:41 > 0:20:43The good news is, three are up.
0:20:43 > 0:20:46The bad news, there are still two to pitch.
0:20:46 > 0:20:49So it's time for a race to see who can erect them the fastest.
0:20:49 > 0:20:56It's really tricky putting up a tent when you haven't the slightest idea what the end result should look like!
0:20:56 > 0:20:59Oh, look at the size of these pegs!
0:20:59 > 0:21:04- That's unbelievable! - I guess this one goes in the front.
0:21:04 > 0:21:07- OK, that's starting to look a little bit more like it.- Aaaah!
0:21:07 > 0:21:11- Oh, I think I've put that pole in the wrong way round.- Come on, Deziree!
0:21:11 > 0:21:14Voila, almost there.
0:21:14 > 0:21:15- I think I'm finished!- Voila!
0:21:15 > 0:21:19- Hey!- I think I just had the edge on you in terms of time there, Cameron,
0:21:19 > 0:21:24but I think you've won in terms of how neat and tidy your tent looks.
0:21:24 > 0:21:27I've also placed it right on top of a big boulder too.
0:21:27 > 0:21:29Now, Deziree and I just have to sleep in them.
0:21:29 > 0:21:32Tomorrow, we'll see how they've stood up to a night of wild,
0:21:32 > 0:21:37wet and windy weather. And we've eight more jackets to try out, too.
0:21:37 > 0:21:41So stay with us on The Adventure Show. Right now, it's back to Fort William.
0:21:47 > 0:21:50Welcome back to the action at Fort William.
0:21:50 > 0:21:53We're gearing up for the Women's Downhill event.
0:21:53 > 0:21:56There have been quite a few changes to the course this year,
0:21:56 > 0:21:58so Duncan McCallum has donned the right equipment
0:21:58 > 0:22:02and the right clothing to find out what's in store for the riders.
0:22:03 > 0:22:06I must admit I am feeling slightly nervous, to say the least.
0:22:06 > 0:22:11I haven't ridden the course for three or four years and there's lots of changes and lots of big bits.
0:22:11 > 0:22:14I am kind of looking forward to it, but I've got the world's
0:22:14 > 0:22:18best cyclists, who are going to be pushing up behind me.
0:22:18 > 0:22:21Come on, Rachel. I can't have you follow me up.
0:22:21 > 0:22:23I'll try and keep up with you!
0:22:23 > 0:22:28- So, here goes.- It's well known as being one of the toughest.
0:22:28 > 0:22:32It's consistently physical, from the start to the finish.
0:22:32 > 0:22:35There's some steep sections, but it's generally very fast.
0:22:35 > 0:22:39The weather here changes a lot, the ground conditions are very poor,
0:22:39 > 0:22:41which means the track doesn't always stand up that well,
0:22:41 > 0:22:45which creates a very rough surface. So the guys get a battering,
0:22:45 > 0:22:48and they expect to here, but everyone loves it.
0:22:48 > 0:22:53So this is the end of the first easy section, and we're now on
0:22:53 > 0:22:59the first of the hard sections, so we'll see how that looks.
0:22:59 > 0:23:00It's nice and steep.
0:23:00 > 0:23:05- Oops! - 'Come on Duncan. Make way for the professionals.'
0:23:05 > 0:23:08Everything I've ridden so far, I could see over,
0:23:08 > 0:23:11and that is the first obstacle that when you ride to,
0:23:11 > 0:23:13you can't see over the other side.
0:23:13 > 0:23:18I'm not being very brave! I'm going to walk this bit.
0:23:18 > 0:23:23Weight got a bit too far back. For the competition, you've got to get your line perfect,
0:23:23 > 0:23:26so I don't know how you remember the length of course
0:23:26 > 0:23:32that this is, but it's some feat of bravery, skill and belief.
0:23:32 > 0:23:37I'm absolutely shaking with adrenaline,
0:23:37 > 0:23:41so, I mean, I'm really enjoying it, but it is something else.
0:23:41 > 0:23:45As you're hitting the woods, there's a very big new section gone in
0:23:45 > 0:23:49called The Big Doon, which is a pretty big drop off.
0:23:49 > 0:23:54It's pretty high. It looks pretty spectacular. It's probably easier than it looks,
0:23:54 > 0:23:57but it's a long way down. You wouldn't want to get it wrong.
0:23:57 > 0:24:03It's a two-and-a-half-high metre ramp, with a five-metre gap over a fire road.
0:24:03 > 0:24:10It's seriously, seriously impressive and the good riders just make it look so, so easy,
0:24:10 > 0:24:14and what's difficult about it is not only the drop off itself, which is very intimidating,
0:24:14 > 0:24:19but to come into the line, you've got a wet rooty section, and there's lots of riders now,
0:24:19 > 0:24:23even on the timed runs, just slipping. When you're racing,
0:24:23 > 0:24:25you might have to suck up that mistake and just go for it.
0:24:25 > 0:24:29'If I were you, I wouldn't go for it just yet, Duncan.
0:24:29 > 0:24:35'We need you here, not in A&E! I think Duncan's done really well, but his performance hasn't really
0:24:35 > 0:24:39'made much of an impression with the top pros like Rachel Atherton.'
0:24:39 > 0:24:43I hope you weren't too intimidated by me following you down the trail.
0:24:43 > 0:24:46- Oh, was that you?- Yes.- Where? - Right at the top.- Oh, right!
0:24:46 > 0:24:50You had your gear on and I was like, didn't know who it was.
0:24:50 > 0:24:55All the guys were like, "There's a rider on track without a number on and we're worried he's just..."
0:24:55 > 0:25:01- He's just going to fall off?- Yes. - How have the changes affected the race?- It's fun.
0:25:01 > 0:25:04The new jump out of the woods, I love it, it's so much fun.
0:25:04 > 0:25:06- A LITTLE jump out of the woods? - Well, it's only like
0:25:06 > 0:25:11a bike length or something long. But I think it's cool for the fans and for the kids
0:25:11 > 0:25:15because it looks quite dramatic. So, yeah, it's really good.
0:25:15 > 0:25:18One of Rachel's biggest rivals is fellow Brit Tracy Moseley.
0:25:18 > 0:25:21Last year's World Champion, Tracy has won here four times
0:25:21 > 0:25:26and has competed on this course every year, from the very first time
0:25:26 > 0:25:29the World Cup was held in Fort William.
0:25:29 > 0:25:31It's ten years since I came here and first won
0:25:31 > 0:25:35my first World Cup, so it's always been a special place.
0:25:35 > 0:25:38It's amazing to come back and have some sun and an awesome crowd again.
0:25:38 > 0:25:42What is it about the Brits that do so well at this kind of ridiculous hardcore sport?
0:25:42 > 0:25:45I'm not sure. Most of us don't live anywhere near a mountain like this.
0:25:45 > 0:25:50We've got tons of great riding which improves your skills,
0:25:50 > 0:25:53but access to downhill courses is quite limited.
0:25:53 > 0:25:55It almost means going to a race.
0:25:55 > 0:25:59- And how big a deal would it be to be on that winner's podium again? - Pretty amazing, yeah.
0:25:59 > 0:26:04The honour of wearing this is going to be special. Ten years racing, the first ever race I won here.
0:26:04 > 0:26:09Yeah, it would be nice. Another little tick off the list of things to achieve.
0:26:09 > 0:26:15But hard on the heels of both Tracy and Rachel is another British rider, Manon Carpenter.
0:26:15 > 0:26:21She's 18 years old and yesterday was the fifth fastest female in qualification -
0:26:21 > 0:26:25a great achievement when she fits in riding with exam revision.
0:26:25 > 0:26:27It's pretty hectic. I've got a couple of A-Levels
0:26:27 > 0:26:32next week. It's not too bad to just kind of fit it all in.
0:26:32 > 0:26:35Unfortunately, I've got to miss the next World Cup next weekend
0:26:35 > 0:26:40because of my A-Level exams. I've only got a month left to go and then home free.
0:26:40 > 0:26:44We're joining the action as the last five women gear up for the race.
0:26:44 > 0:26:46They were the fastest in qualification.
0:26:46 > 0:26:50First off, it's Manon Carpenter. With a vertical drop of 555 metres
0:26:50 > 0:26:53and nearly three kilometres of descent,
0:26:53 > 0:26:58this is one of the longest and toughest downhill courses on the circuit.
0:26:58 > 0:27:02And screaming along the boardwalk is the 18-year-old A-Level student.
0:27:02 > 0:27:09She is the new young hope for female Downhill Riding in the UK.
0:27:09 > 0:27:12She's been riding a bike since she was two, she told me earlier,
0:27:12 > 0:27:16and is absolutely flying on the top part of the course.
0:27:16 > 0:27:21Came eighth in Pietermaritzburg earlier on this year
0:27:21 > 0:27:25and looks very confident and smooth.
0:27:25 > 0:27:28Lots of local support. Riding for a UK company.
0:27:28 > 0:27:33Just lost a tenth of a second there, as her back wheel skipped out,
0:27:33 > 0:27:36and she'll need to find the sprintability lower down.
0:27:36 > 0:27:42The ability to pedal when your arms and legs are screaming with pain.
0:27:42 > 0:27:45Still a Junior, got a couple of years to go as a Junior.
0:27:45 > 0:27:48The Welsh girl has been super impressive.
0:27:48 > 0:27:51She'll be competing in the World Cup this year,
0:27:51 > 0:27:55and she'll also be taking time off to do her A-Levels!
0:27:55 > 0:27:57She's such a fierce competitor!
0:27:57 > 0:27:59Her time was down on the sprint.
0:27:59 > 0:28:02I don't think she's done enough to go into the lead,
0:28:02 > 0:28:04but she could certainly finish second.
0:28:04 > 0:28:06Certainly finish on the podium.
0:28:06 > 0:28:125.40:88 - fourth for Manon Carpenter.
0:28:12 > 0:28:15That's truly super impressive for such a young girl.
0:28:15 > 0:28:19She's fit, she's fast, and she's furious!
0:28:19 > 0:28:21She is a star of the future.
0:28:22 > 0:28:24On the top of the course,
0:28:24 > 0:28:28Floriane Pugin, who came in second in the French National Championships
0:28:28 > 0:28:33and is ranked fourth in the world by the UCI.
0:28:33 > 0:28:37So just coming off the boardwalk into the steep rock sections,
0:28:37 > 0:28:42where the line is all important, and Floriane looks very solid.
0:28:42 > 0:28:46She's raced here a lot, even though she is only 22,
0:28:46 > 0:28:50and she is the future of French Downhill Riding
0:28:50 > 0:28:53and today is absolutely flying through this, doing very well.
0:28:53 > 0:28:58Oh, a little skip out there with the back tyre, but bending her legs
0:28:58 > 0:29:01and arms and compressing the bike and using the suspension
0:29:01 > 0:29:04to lift herself over the obstacles. Floriane looks good so far.
0:29:04 > 0:29:10Back in 2007, Floriane Pugin won the World Junior Championship
0:29:10 > 0:29:13here in Fort William.
0:29:13 > 0:29:17What can she do now she's a Senior, and what has she got?
0:29:17 > 0:29:19She was second in the European Champions last year,
0:29:19 > 0:29:22second in the French National Championships. Has she done enough?
0:29:22 > 0:29:26We're at the bottom half of the course, wearing the bright yellow.
0:29:26 > 0:29:31It's very, very close... Oh, my goodness me! It's inside!
0:29:31 > 0:29:35That's incredible! Floriane Pugin is the leader.
0:29:35 > 0:29:380.7 inside the leader.
0:29:38 > 0:29:41That is a brilliant, brilliant run!
0:29:41 > 0:29:44She took on the second half of the course, kept it smooth
0:29:44 > 0:29:47and steady at the top and then attacked the bottom half.
0:29:47 > 0:29:48That's our new leader.
0:29:49 > 0:29:51On the course now,
0:29:51 > 0:29:56the World Championship winner last year in 2010.
0:29:56 > 0:29:58Currently ranked number two in the world,
0:29:58 > 0:30:01aged 32, Tracy Moseley, who's been at the top
0:30:01 > 0:30:03of downhill riding
0:30:03 > 0:30:07both in the UK and on the world stage for many years now,
0:30:07 > 0:30:10and still an incredibly strong competitor,
0:30:10 > 0:30:12and posted the second best time.
0:30:12 > 0:30:15Tracy - strong, focussed, absolutely loves Fort William,
0:30:15 > 0:30:20loves the rough length and getting a great reception from the crowd here.
0:30:20 > 0:30:23And Tracy looks good.
0:30:23 > 0:30:26A very nice line there on that big drop off.
0:30:26 > 0:30:29Focussed and determined.
0:30:29 > 0:30:30Still manages to pull
0:30:30 > 0:30:33the performances out of the bag every time she comes here.
0:30:33 > 0:30:35And heading towards The Big Doon in the forest,
0:30:35 > 0:30:39Tracy Moseley is really going well.
0:30:39 > 0:30:43She's won here in 2002, she's won here in 2005,
0:30:43 > 0:30:47she's won here in 2006, she won here in 2008.
0:30:47 > 0:30:52What about 2011 from the World Champion, Tracy Moseley,
0:30:52 > 0:30:55wearing the World Cup Championship jersey?
0:30:55 > 0:30:56Look at the time!
0:30:56 > 0:31:00Oh, my goodness me! 7.5 inside!
0:31:00 > 0:31:03Look at that woman there, Tracy Moseley,
0:31:03 > 0:31:06one of the finest downhill racers the world has ever seen.
0:31:06 > 0:31:09She is just supreme.
0:31:09 > 0:31:13Exhausted, the World Champion here at Fort William
0:31:13 > 0:31:17saying that she would be overjoyed to win again.
0:31:17 > 0:31:20Can it be a fifth win for her?
0:31:20 > 0:31:24The only person can beat her now is Rachel Atherton.
0:31:24 > 0:31:27So on the boardwalk,
0:31:27 > 0:31:31lifting the bike up is the crowd's great favourite,
0:31:31 > 0:31:34came first here last year in 2010,
0:31:34 > 0:31:38is recovering from a couple of years of pretty serious injuries,
0:31:38 > 0:31:43hit a truck in 2009 while training on a road bike.
0:31:43 > 0:31:47Rachel has not... She told me she wasn't up to full fitness
0:31:47 > 0:31:51but she's in the hot seat at the moment and is absolutely
0:31:51 > 0:31:54charging down to this huge support
0:31:54 > 0:31:57high up in the mountain on Aonach Mor.
0:31:57 > 0:32:00She needs to focus. She probably doesn't hear any of that at all.
0:32:00 > 0:32:03A little skip out there on the back wheel and a beautiful,
0:32:03 > 0:32:08powerful line there and as Rachel charges down towards the forest here,
0:32:08 > 0:32:11she will not know what's happening below
0:32:11 > 0:32:14but you can hear the crowd roaring in the distance.
0:32:14 > 0:32:18She was a World Champion back in 2009
0:32:18 > 0:32:22and she would love to win here at Fort William.
0:32:22 > 0:32:24She has Tracy Moseley to beat
0:32:24 > 0:32:27and she has to put on the power on the motorway.
0:32:27 > 0:32:30Keeping nice and smooth down the bottom half
0:32:30 > 0:32:33and everyone is looking at the clock. It's so close.
0:32:33 > 0:32:35Five seconds from the end!
0:32:35 > 0:32:39Where's the clock? What does it say?
0:32:39 > 0:32:40Oh, just outside!
0:32:40 > 0:32:421.7 outside.
0:32:42 > 0:32:445:23:61.
0:32:44 > 0:32:50Rachel Atherton just outside but Tracy Moseley, look at her there!
0:32:50 > 0:32:51It's a Britain one, two.
0:32:51 > 0:32:58My goodness me, they're both exhausted but both delighted.
0:32:58 > 0:33:02Moseley raises the bike in the air, salutes the Fort William crowd
0:33:02 > 0:33:05and says, "Thank you for the support."
0:33:05 > 0:33:09She's won five times here at Fort William. She is supreme.
0:33:09 > 0:33:13Big hands for everyone at Fort William.
0:33:13 > 0:33:15Look at the big smile on her face.
0:33:15 > 0:33:21She was desperate for this again and she is so, so, so happy.
0:33:21 > 0:33:25Every year it's harder and every year there's more and more nerves.
0:33:25 > 0:33:28I knew how much I wanted to win it and yesterday, Rachel coming back,
0:33:28 > 0:33:32she's not raced since last year so you never quite know how much pace she's got
0:33:32 > 0:33:36and I know she'll be fast so I just knew I had to push as hard as I possibly could,
0:33:36 > 0:33:40and finally felt like I had a pretty good run to and just managed to hold it.
0:33:40 > 0:33:44It was weird - dropped in over that thing and it was silent and I was just like...
0:33:44 > 0:33:46Normally as you jump it you can hear the noise
0:33:46 > 0:33:49but today I couldn't and I was like, "That doesn't bode well!"
0:33:49 > 0:33:50But obviously it was good.
0:33:50 > 0:33:52And confirmation of those results.
0:33:52 > 0:33:5718-year-old Manon Carpenter finished in eighth place.
0:33:57 > 0:34:03Third place went to Floriane Pugin from France.
0:34:03 > 0:34:06And the two top places went to Britain.
0:34:06 > 0:34:13Rachel Atherton was just two seconds slower than Tracy Moseley
0:34:13 > 0:34:17who topped the leader-board.
0:34:17 > 0:34:19A great result for both of them.
0:34:19 > 0:34:22Fair play to whoever can get down there fast because
0:34:22 > 0:34:25it's so hard and Tracy's amazingly strong, you know,
0:34:25 > 0:34:27and I'm glad to be chasing her
0:34:27 > 0:34:29and I'm glad that it's a Brit one, two on the top.
0:34:29 > 0:34:32The men's downhill final is next up at Fort William
0:34:32 > 0:34:36but while they're getting ready we're re-joining Desiree and Cameron
0:34:36 > 0:34:39to find out if they and their tents survived
0:34:39 > 0:34:42an incredibly wild night in the Scottish hills.
0:34:48 > 0:34:52I have to say that was probably one of the worst nights I've ever had in a tent.
0:34:52 > 0:34:54I don't know what speed the wind was at
0:34:54 > 0:34:58but it was absolutely ferocious from time to time, but having said that
0:34:58 > 0:35:01the tent stood up to it really well. These tents are designed
0:35:01 > 0:35:05to move in the wind so you get quite a bit of flapping going on,
0:35:05 > 0:35:08but I'm bone dry, there's not a bit of wetness in here,
0:35:08 > 0:35:14I've had a reasonable night's sleep, I've had my breakfast and it was OK.
0:35:14 > 0:35:16But outside it's atrocious so Desiree and I
0:35:16 > 0:35:21have dived into the youth hostel to discuss how the tents fared.
0:35:21 > 0:35:22The tent was great.
0:35:22 > 0:35:25The geodesic design
0:35:25 > 0:35:27means it feels really stable. It doesn't feel noisy at all.
0:35:27 > 0:35:30The shape of the tent holds it in place nicely.
0:35:30 > 0:35:33The poles actually support the other poles and it supports the canvas.
0:35:33 > 0:35:37The only downside to it potentially if you're backpacking on your own
0:35:37 > 0:35:39is it's quite a heavy tent to carry yourself,
0:35:39 > 0:35:41but it's not designed for one person, it's designed for two.
0:35:46 > 0:35:50The Mountain Equipment tent was very good, stayed completely dry inside.
0:35:50 > 0:35:51It's a big tent, it's very roomy.
0:35:51 > 0:35:55It's held up by two curved poles
0:35:55 > 0:35:59so there's actually quite a lot of material that's not supported,
0:35:59 > 0:36:03so when it is windy it flaps a lot but they don't blow away.
0:36:03 > 0:36:05I think I would probably recommend it.
0:36:09 > 0:36:13The one that's fared least best probably is the Vango tent
0:36:13 > 0:36:16which we kind of probably suspected,
0:36:16 > 0:36:19because it doesn't have any guy ropes and that's very odd for
0:36:19 > 0:36:23a tent to be used in the UK, if it doesn't have any guy ropes that's a big black mark right away.
0:36:23 > 0:36:26There is a balance to be struck between low weight
0:36:26 > 0:36:30and practicality, so it looked a bit rough this morning.
0:36:30 > 0:36:33I don't think I would've liked to have spent the night in it.
0:36:37 > 0:36:40The tent I put up yesterday, the Laser Competition,
0:36:40 > 0:36:45it's so light, it's got a single pole structure and then it's
0:36:45 > 0:36:46guyed out at either end.
0:36:46 > 0:36:48The main thing these guys are trying to do
0:36:48 > 0:36:50with this tent is just to cut the weight down.
0:36:50 > 0:36:54I think for mountain marathon people who don't mind being uncomfortable.
0:36:54 > 0:36:57They're running all day, they spend the night in the tent,
0:36:57 > 0:37:00they're away first thing in the morning - then it's fine.
0:37:05 > 0:37:10That leaves the Vaude Power Lizard and I've used that tent a lot.
0:37:10 > 0:37:13I used it two weeks last year when my wife and I walked coast to coast
0:37:13 > 0:37:16across Scotland, and at first I thought it would be too small,
0:37:16 > 0:37:19you have to know the person very well you're sharing with.
0:37:19 > 0:37:23But it was stable, it's easy to pitch, it's very light.
0:37:23 > 0:37:26- It weighs 1kg which is pretty good for a two person tent. - It's amazing, yes.
0:37:26 > 0:37:29It's a tent I've actually become quite fond of.
0:37:34 > 0:37:37It's still horrendous outside,
0:37:37 > 0:37:39but since there's no road to the youth hostel
0:37:39 > 0:37:42and we still have eight more jackets to try out,
0:37:42 > 0:37:44we've no option but to start walking.
0:37:44 > 0:37:47The weather's now so bad we've had to ditch our normal cameras
0:37:47 > 0:37:50and rely on a small waterproof one.
0:37:50 > 0:37:53We'll be stopping in whatever shelters we can find
0:37:53 > 0:37:56to give you the lowdown on our kit.
0:37:56 > 0:38:00- Good to get out of the rain.- Lovely. - This is nice, isn't it? - This is great.
0:38:00 > 0:38:03So, a wee chat about the jackets we've been wearing this morning.
0:38:03 > 0:38:05The Montanes first of all.
0:38:05 > 0:38:08I really like this jacket, really lightweight, functional,
0:38:08 > 0:38:12simple, but still could be used technically as well.
0:38:12 > 0:38:15I guess the one thing I'm a little bit sceptical about
0:38:15 > 0:38:18with these super-lightweight jackets is just how long they last really.
0:38:18 > 0:38:23It is a thin fabric but I think you'll probably find it would last quite a long time.
0:38:23 > 0:38:25I have to confess I quite like Montane jackets.
0:38:25 > 0:38:30I particularly enjoyed wearing this one because we were out in some horrible weather.
0:38:30 > 0:38:32I thought the hood was fabulous, it worked really well.
0:38:32 > 0:38:36It was snug on my head and yet I still had plenty visibility.
0:38:36 > 0:38:40When I moved my head the whole hood moved with me rather than my head turning inside it.
0:38:40 > 0:38:42So I really liked that. I thought it was a really nice jacket.
0:38:47 > 0:38:51Interesting comparing the price of that as a lightweight jacket
0:38:51 > 0:38:52with this Marmot one.
0:38:52 > 0:38:55This is the Marmot Stretch jacket
0:38:55 > 0:39:00and it was £40 cheaper than this one, but incredibly lightweight.
0:39:00 > 0:39:03I have to say I'm slightly damp inside but it is a summer jacket.
0:39:03 > 0:39:07I love the cut of it, it's just little features here and there.
0:39:12 > 0:39:13The thing I love about Marmot,
0:39:13 > 0:39:17is there's nothing extra on it that doesn't need to be there.
0:39:17 > 0:39:20Generally Marmot stuff tends to last quite a long time
0:39:20 > 0:39:23so I really like this jacket, as a hill-walking jacket.
0:39:33 > 0:39:36I have to be honest and say I'd much rather the weather be nice and warm
0:39:36 > 0:39:40and sunny and I could wander along in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt,
0:39:40 > 0:39:43but that's not the reality of hill-walking in Scotland.
0:39:43 > 0:39:45Quite often the enjoyment is in hindsight, isn't it?
0:39:45 > 0:39:49You're out there and it's foul and you're thinking, "What am I doing here?"
0:39:49 > 0:39:53But there's something about pitting your wits against the elements
0:39:53 > 0:39:57and actually using the skills that you've learned to be in the hills.
0:39:57 > 0:39:59And as a famous comedian once said,
0:39:59 > 0:40:03"There's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing."
0:40:13 > 0:40:16Well, the wind and the rain show absolutely no sign
0:40:16 > 0:40:20of relenting and we've arrived at Glen Licht House where we've been
0:40:20 > 0:40:24able to use a little shelter that's stuck on to the end of the house,
0:40:24 > 0:40:25just to get out of the rain.
0:40:25 > 0:40:28We've been wearing Arcteryx jackets. How did you get on with yours?
0:40:28 > 0:40:31I've got an Arcteryx jacket myself and I like
0:40:31 > 0:40:34the durability of Arcteryx and I like the fit of them as well.
0:40:34 > 0:40:37This one I find a little bit bulky for me.
0:40:37 > 0:40:41There seemed to be a wee bit too much fabric kind of round the arms and round the waist.
0:40:41 > 0:40:44It wasn't quite as fitted as I'm used to with Arcteryx.
0:40:44 > 0:40:50Really great hood on it, I was out in I think the wildest of the rain
0:40:50 > 0:40:53that we've had today with this jacket on and the hood was absolutely brilliant.
0:40:53 > 0:40:58I wasn't so pleased with the men's Arcteryx jacket.
0:40:58 > 0:41:02Arcteryx have a reputation for making some of the best waterproof garments in the world,
0:41:02 > 0:41:05so maybe I was a bit disappointed with this one.
0:41:05 > 0:41:07I felt it was a bit like wearing a suit of armour.
0:41:07 > 0:41:09It was just big and bulky.
0:41:09 > 0:41:10Having said that,
0:41:10 > 0:41:14this is the sort of jacket that you could wear on a real nasty winter's day in Scotland
0:41:14 > 0:41:18and come out of it dry, so from that point of view, it's good.
0:41:23 > 0:41:26- Now a change from there into something completely different.- Yes.
0:41:26 > 0:41:29And this is the Paramo Velez smock
0:41:29 > 0:41:33and it's the only smock that we've got on this test.
0:41:33 > 0:41:36I quite like a pull-over-the-head smock actually.
0:41:36 > 0:41:39It is like a mini layer system.
0:41:39 > 0:41:43And because it's like a mini layer system it's very warm and very bulky,
0:41:43 > 0:41:47so for a day like this when it's really windy and really nasty,
0:41:47 > 0:41:51I can't actually think of a better garment to wear but for general use
0:41:51 > 0:41:54- I find Paramo garments too warm - I think you're right.
0:41:54 > 0:41:58I prefer the option of putting more layers on and taking them off
0:41:58 > 0:42:02and I always feel with Paramo, once this is on, it's staying on, and it's been brilliant today.
0:42:02 > 0:42:06The thing that I really love about Paramo is it doesn't actually feel
0:42:06 > 0:42:12like you're wearing a waterproof because the fabric is so soft and it's so comfortable.
0:42:12 > 0:42:16I think my criticism of Paramo is I find the fit of it is quite baggy,
0:42:16 > 0:42:21but I also really rate the way that the fabric works.
0:42:26 > 0:42:28To sum up all the jackets, they were a pretty good selection
0:42:28 > 0:42:32and they've been tested in some pretty horrendous conditions.
0:42:32 > 0:42:36We thought they were all pretty good for certain times of the year and for certain uses.
0:42:36 > 0:42:38To find out more about the jackets
0:42:38 > 0:42:42and the tents used by Cameron and Desiree, find us on Facebook.
0:42:42 > 0:42:46There's full details about all the gear, together with their route through Glen Affric.
0:42:46 > 0:42:50That's also the place to discover what we're all doing.
0:42:50 > 0:42:55Right now we're heading indoors for a test of a very different kind.
0:43:00 > 0:43:02Go on, Damon! Go on!
0:43:02 > 0:43:05- HE GRUNTS - All right?
0:43:05 > 0:43:08Training is never fun but the benefits
0:43:08 > 0:43:10you see from it are really good
0:43:10 > 0:43:13and it's kind of addictive, once you start getting these benefits
0:43:13 > 0:43:16you just want to get better.
0:43:16 > 0:43:19Ben Cathro is one of Scotland's best downhill bikers
0:43:19 > 0:43:23but to get to the very top of this sport you need more than just raw talent.
0:43:23 > 0:43:25At the beginning of this year,
0:43:25 > 0:43:28Edinburgh Napier University opened a new facility
0:43:28 > 0:43:31to provide state-of-the-art training for top athletes.
0:43:31 > 0:43:35Today the Scottish Cycling Team are being put through their paces.
0:43:35 > 0:43:37Go, go, go!
0:43:37 > 0:43:39The gains you get from it. You can put in hours of work
0:43:39 > 0:43:43and on the track maybe get half a second or under gain,
0:43:43 > 0:43:46but then the times are so tight, half a second could be
0:43:46 > 0:43:4820 places at a World Cup.
0:43:48 > 0:43:51Ruaridh was one of the original riders -
0:43:51 > 0:43:54there were two on the first programme that I started.
0:43:54 > 0:43:58He was just a chubby little guy at the time,
0:43:58 > 0:44:02he was a young junior, went on to win the World Championships.
0:44:02 > 0:44:06He's changed a lot to the sculpted young man that we have today.
0:44:06 > 0:44:09Ben's quite a different character, pretty gregarious.
0:44:09 > 0:44:13Massive! None of the bikes in the lab actually fit Ben.
0:44:13 > 0:44:18We've used cardboard and electrical tape just to try and get seats the right height and various things.
0:44:18 > 0:44:19Incredible talent.
0:44:19 > 0:44:24His size allows him to get into positions that other guys just couldn't possibly do.
0:44:24 > 0:44:28To be a world class downhill racer requires focus and dedication,
0:44:28 > 0:44:31but losing those last one hundredths of a second on a run
0:44:31 > 0:44:35needs a scientific training programme and a strong support team.
0:44:35 > 0:44:38In every sport there's an amount of talent that's there
0:44:38 > 0:44:41and then it's enhancing that and then trying to improve it,
0:44:41 > 0:44:43and that's where the big input comes from,
0:44:43 > 0:44:46from us and from what we're doing with Chris.
0:44:46 > 0:44:48Without that programme in place you wouldn't see
0:44:48 > 0:44:51the success which we're getting with those junior riders.
0:44:51 > 0:44:54If you look at the rest of the UK for instance, the junior riders
0:44:54 > 0:44:57are nowhere near as good as our riders as a collective.
0:44:57 > 0:45:00Before we had this kind of course,
0:45:00 > 0:45:04I thought I was putting in the hard work, every week getting up,
0:45:04 > 0:45:06busting a gut.
0:45:06 > 0:45:12But if you don't do tests and re-test and figure out actually what you're working on,
0:45:12 > 0:45:17what aspect of your performance, then you're kind of stabbing in the dark,
0:45:17 > 0:45:20so this really clarifies why we're doing it
0:45:20 > 0:45:24and that we're improving and getting steps closer to being champions, I guess.
0:45:24 > 0:45:27- Go!- Go on, Ben!- Go on, Ben! Good man.
0:45:27 > 0:45:29Feel the gas, Ben.
0:45:29 > 0:45:32Keep burning, keep pushing!
0:45:32 > 0:45:33It's pretty intense,
0:45:33 > 0:45:38I have Geraint on one side and Chris on the other side just shouting at me
0:45:38 > 0:45:41and I had no choice to back down, so I just kept going.
0:45:41 > 0:45:46When I tried to open my eyes through that last sprint, everything was just black,
0:45:46 > 0:45:48all my vision had closed and I couldn't see anything,
0:45:48 > 0:45:51I thought I was going to pass out but I managed to stay together
0:45:51 > 0:45:55and just crawl off to the corner to get some time to myself.
0:45:55 > 0:46:01'The test is anaerobic and you get a build up of what's known as lactic acid.'
0:46:01 > 0:46:04That lactic acid, at the levels that he was sustaining at the end of it,
0:46:04 > 0:46:07was blacking him out, and once you come off the bike and you stop,
0:46:07 > 0:46:10that's when it starts making you feel really sick.
0:46:10 > 0:46:12As you saw at the end, he couldn't have given any more.
0:46:12 > 0:46:15If he had I would've had to stop him
0:46:15 > 0:46:17and that's an amazing thing to see in people.
0:46:17 > 0:46:20You don't understand how hard people will push themselves.
0:46:20 > 0:46:24In a real-life scenario you never get to that state of exhaustion,
0:46:24 > 0:46:27so if you can push yourself this hard in the gym
0:46:27 > 0:46:29when it comes to riding on the bike, it's easy.
0:46:29 > 0:46:32It's nowhere near as hard as it is in here.
0:46:32 > 0:46:34I don't train because I have to.
0:46:34 > 0:46:37I could go out, get a normal job and ride my bike at weekends
0:46:37 > 0:46:40but being able to ride your bike for a job,
0:46:40 > 0:46:45it's hard work but it's, biking is everything to me.
0:46:45 > 0:46:47I can't think of what I'd do if I didn't have it.
0:46:55 > 0:46:58Welcome back to Fort William and as you can hear,
0:46:58 > 0:47:03the excitement is reaching fever pitch as we prepare for the Men's Downhill.
0:47:03 > 0:47:07For the Brits, Gee Atherton is trying to make it two wins in a row,
0:47:07 > 0:47:10but let's not forget former World Champion Steve Peat,
0:47:10 > 0:47:12or even Ruaridh Cunningham for Scotland.
0:47:12 > 0:47:17From abroad, Sam Hill, Aaron Gwin, Greg Minnaar, I think you get the idea.
0:47:17 > 0:47:19Any one of a dozen riders could win here.
0:47:19 > 0:47:22It's pretty noisy. It's going to be pretty exciting.
0:47:22 > 0:47:28I love this place. Everyone's here and backing me. I just want to get it done now.
0:47:28 > 0:47:34One of the most talented young British riders is 20-year-old Danny Hart from Redcar.
0:47:34 > 0:47:39Up against all the big names, he was the third fastest down the track in qualification.
0:47:39 > 0:47:41'I didn't know whether to go a bit steadier'
0:47:41 > 0:47:44and not risk crashing or getting a puncture or...
0:47:44 > 0:47:47Then I thought, it's pointless doing that
0:47:47 > 0:47:49because I'll be thinking too much about going slow,
0:47:49 > 0:47:53so I just went like hell and it worked out well
0:47:53 > 0:47:57so I want to follow it up today and I'm quite confident.
0:47:57 > 0:48:01'Someone else to look out for is Brook MacDonald from New Zealand.
0:48:01 > 0:48:06'Like Danny, he's just 20 years old and is currently ranked 16th in the world.'
0:48:06 > 0:48:09I try to keep calm and just think through
0:48:09 > 0:48:12the course as it comes up, just bit by bit,
0:48:12 > 0:48:14but with treks like these being so long,
0:48:14 > 0:48:16you've got to be pretty fit and bang on your game here.
0:48:16 > 0:48:20It could go wrong but hopefully it's going to go good.
0:48:21 > 0:48:23And this is it for Brook MacDonald.
0:48:23 > 0:48:26In 2009, he was the World Junior Downhill Champion
0:48:26 > 0:48:30but last year at Fort William he only managed 76th place.
0:48:30 > 0:48:33Today, he'll want to do a whole lot better.
0:48:33 > 0:48:36Charging down this course and it's so intimidating
0:48:36 > 0:48:41coming up to one of those big bends where all you see is sky once you're on the bike.
0:48:41 > 0:48:44Big intimidating drop offs at the edge of this course,
0:48:44 > 0:48:48dropping into the faster section of the S bends,
0:48:48 > 0:48:51where keeping the line on the mud is more important.
0:48:52 > 0:48:57But safely through Pylon 13, there's a nasty little rock drop off there
0:48:57 > 0:48:59and if you get the line wrong, you hit the dirt.
0:48:59 > 0:49:01But that looks like a good first section.
0:49:01 > 0:49:06This is amazing riding. Not taking much air over the big new jump
0:49:06 > 0:49:07but every second counts.
0:49:07 > 0:49:09Charging over the finish line.
0:49:09 > 0:49:15He's slashed the previous time by almost seven seconds - 4:45:78!
0:49:15 > 0:49:18That is incredible! Brook goes into the hot seat.
0:49:20 > 0:49:23Back at the top and all Scotland's hopes are now on Ruaridh Cunningham.
0:49:23 > 0:49:27He's had a great qualifying round, finishing in ninth place.
0:49:27 > 0:49:3537th here last year. He was the Junior World Downhill Champion in 2007 however.
0:49:35 > 0:49:38But Ruaridh has struggled with a knee injury over the last couple of years
0:49:38 > 0:49:42and maybe a lack of focus, but this year, he's very determined.
0:49:42 > 0:49:46A new fitness regime. Bike's went a little high there in the front end.
0:49:48 > 0:49:52A very, very tight line there, just clipping one of the posts.
0:49:52 > 0:49:57Hopefully that was intentional and Ruaridh knows this very well.
0:49:57 > 0:49:59Races a lot in Innerleithen.
0:49:59 > 0:50:04Another dab there. He's really pulling the stops out, always right on the edge.
0:50:04 > 0:50:05CROWD CHEERS
0:50:05 > 0:50:10Just have a wee listen to what the Fort William crowd have to say to this young man.
0:50:10 > 0:50:13Get down here, Ruaridh, and fast!
0:50:13 > 0:50:18And here he comes. 42nd in the world this year.
0:50:18 > 0:50:21He's had a terrible time with injuries this past couple of years
0:50:21 > 0:50:23since going senior,
0:50:23 > 0:50:26but he needs to put the afterburners on.
0:50:26 > 0:50:31Oh, finishes in tenth. Ruaridh said if he finishes top 20,
0:50:31 > 0:50:35that'll be a great result for him this weekend. 4:51:49.
0:50:35 > 0:50:38Wow! That was fantastic for him.
0:50:39 > 0:50:42Now it's time for one of biking's legends.
0:50:42 > 0:50:44South African Greg Minnaar has rarely finished outside
0:50:44 > 0:50:46the top four.
0:50:46 > 0:50:48'You want to win races and this is a great race to win.
0:50:48 > 0:50:51'I enjoy racing here, the track's awesome, it's fast, it's rough.
0:50:51 > 0:50:56'You always want to do well, you don't race to come second or third.
0:50:56 > 0:50:58'That's what keeps the fire burning.'
0:50:59 > 0:51:01Age 30, on the course,
0:51:01 > 0:51:04Greg Minnaar, one of the most focussed downhill riders
0:51:04 > 0:51:06the sport has ever seen.
0:51:06 > 0:51:09An incredible performer over many, many years.
0:51:09 > 0:51:11Ranked second in the world last year,
0:51:11 > 0:51:15third in Fort William the year before. He has won in Fort William
0:51:15 > 0:51:20in 2009, 2008 and also 2004 when he was riding a very strange bike.
0:51:20 > 0:51:26Now riding in the same team as Steve Peat, Greg Minnaar,
0:51:26 > 0:51:31a fantastic, fantastic rider. Very strong, super determined,
0:51:31 > 0:51:36very conscientious about training, remains focussed and true to the sport.
0:51:36 > 0:51:43Greg Minnaar starting off in the last four here in Fort William after a superb timed trial run.
0:51:43 > 0:51:48Greg is absolutely charging this top part of the course, making it look so easy.
0:51:48 > 0:51:52He's won the four-cross here at Fort William,
0:51:52 > 0:51:57he's won the Downhill in 2004, 2008 and 2009!
0:51:57 > 0:52:02Greg Minnaar, "The fresh prince of big air" they call him.
0:52:02 > 0:52:07He's such a fantastic rider from South Africa. What is he?
0:52:07 > 0:52:09He's the leader, that's what he is.
0:52:09 > 0:52:16Absolutely smashed it! 4:43:85.
0:52:16 > 0:52:181.9 inside Brook MacDonald.
0:52:18 > 0:52:22My goodness me, that was amazing.
0:52:22 > 0:52:26He really controlled the middle section of the course.
0:52:26 > 0:52:30No-one's been able to do that up to now, apart from Brook MacDonald.
0:52:30 > 0:52:35If he wins today, it will be his fourth win. Can he do it?
0:52:36 > 0:52:38Only a few guys left to come down.
0:52:38 > 0:52:42So, Danny Hart, only 20 years old
0:52:42 > 0:52:47and coming in here third out of the gate, and the last three
0:52:47 > 0:52:51and a fantastic achievement for this young British rider.
0:52:51 > 0:52:53Currently ranked an extremely credible ninth,
0:52:53 > 0:52:58the depth of British Downhill Riding is continuing and at 20 years old this...
0:52:58 > 0:53:01Oh, no! I may be speaking too soon.
0:53:01 > 0:53:03He's pushing very hard, he recovered well.
0:53:03 > 0:53:05A few tenths of a second lost there.
0:53:05 > 0:53:10Danny is an incredibly cool young man, very laid back in style,
0:53:10 > 0:53:13except when he's on the bike and then it all comes out.
0:53:13 > 0:53:16He's really pushing hard. Another slip and dab there.
0:53:16 > 0:53:19He may be trying a little too hard so far.
0:53:19 > 0:53:21He'll be wanting to get in the top five for sure
0:53:21 > 0:53:24but too many mistakes in the upper part.
0:53:24 > 0:53:26He really has to focus now.
0:53:28 > 0:53:30He's pushing it to the limit.
0:53:30 > 0:53:34He's had his feet down on the rocky sections of the course,
0:53:34 > 0:53:39but he's absolutely flying, this young man from the north of England,
0:53:39 > 0:53:41what an incredible performance!
0:53:41 > 0:53:44He was inside at the top, he was inside in the middle.
0:53:44 > 0:53:46Will he be inside at the end?
0:53:46 > 0:53:50Unbelievable! Unbelievable, this young man!
0:53:51 > 0:53:55Oh, just outside! My goodness.
0:53:55 > 0:54:01He's still delighted. And that is incredible. Wooo!
0:54:01 > 0:54:03Hands in the air, salutes the crowd,
0:54:03 > 0:54:05takes the goggles off,
0:54:05 > 0:54:08flings them into the crowd, thank you very much,
0:54:08 > 0:54:14crowns one of the spectators, but he's got a smile from ear to ear.
0:54:14 > 0:54:17Danny Hart, yes, yes, yes!
0:54:20 > 0:54:23He qualified in second place. He won here last year.
0:54:23 > 0:54:26Can Gee Atherton make it two in a row?
0:54:26 > 0:54:29'Last year was amazing but winning last year only made me want it more
0:54:29 > 0:54:32'and you know, this year I'm hungrier than ever.
0:54:32 > 0:54:34'The track's tough, it's challenging,
0:54:34 > 0:54:36'every time you come here you have to bring your A game
0:54:36 > 0:54:40'otherwise you've got no chance, and the atmosphere, how good the spectators are here,
0:54:40 > 0:54:43'it's definitely one of my favourite races.'
0:54:46 > 0:54:52So on the course is THE phenomenon of British Downhill Mountain Bike Riding, Gee Atherton,
0:54:52 > 0:54:56ranked number one in the world, placed number one in the World Cup,
0:54:56 > 0:55:00number five in the World Championships, and first in Fort William in 2010.
0:55:01 > 0:55:05And Gee absolutely loves this course.
0:55:06 > 0:55:10An incredible rider, very, very focussed and strong.
0:55:11 > 0:55:16Just changed gear there. You can hear the gears crunching a little bit on this upper part.
0:55:16 > 0:55:19Really pushing hard, using all his strength.
0:55:19 > 0:55:23Gee's such a strong rider. If there's a slight miss-cue on one of the lines,
0:55:23 > 0:55:26he's got enough power and skill to push through it.
0:55:26 > 0:55:30What has he done in the bottom of the course? He won here last year.
0:55:30 > 0:55:34The crowd are absolutely going wild for this young man.
0:55:34 > 0:55:36Former World Champion,
0:55:36 > 0:55:39his sister finished second in the Women's Downhill.
0:55:39 > 0:55:44He won here last year. He's got the afterburners on.
0:55:44 > 0:55:48Putting everything into it. Greg Minnaar to beat. Oooh!
0:55:48 > 0:55:53He loses it on the bottom half of the course. Three seconds outside.
0:55:53 > 0:55:56It's such a physical course.
0:55:56 > 0:55:58That was a great ride
0:55:58 > 0:56:00but we thought he had enough left in the tank
0:56:00 > 0:56:02but he ran out of puff at the end, Gee Atherton.
0:56:02 > 0:56:05Aaron Gwin is the only one that can win it now.
0:56:05 > 0:56:08With only three tenths of a second
0:56:08 > 0:56:12separating Gee Atherton and Aaron Gwin on their runs on Saturday,
0:56:12 > 0:56:17any slight mistake here for the US National Champion will pay.
0:56:17 > 0:56:21He'll pay dearly for that but he is through the first part,
0:56:21 > 0:56:24off the boardwalk into the rock sections.
0:56:24 > 0:56:28A very, very, very determined young man, riding motocross
0:56:28 > 0:56:33and motor trials early on in his career, BMX and now Downhill.
0:56:33 > 0:56:38He is a truly fantastic American phenomenon, ranked third in the world.
0:56:38 > 0:56:41Taking a difficult tight line there.
0:56:41 > 0:56:45He's looking extremely quick on the top part of this course.
0:56:45 > 0:56:49He won the World Cup in South Africa a couple of weeks back.
0:56:49 > 0:56:52Approaching the Scotland Arch. Wooo! Aaron Gwin!
0:56:52 > 0:56:57Coming down now, he's still working really hard,
0:56:57 > 0:57:00pedalling when he has to, smooth when he has to.
0:57:00 > 0:57:02Greg Minnaar to beat.
0:57:02 > 0:57:07Oh, my goodness, he's drabbed in the bottom half of the course.
0:57:07 > 0:57:09He put it all into the top,
0:57:09 > 0:57:14all into the middle, but ran out of puff at the end,
0:57:14 > 0:57:18which means Greg Minnaar is the champion for the fourth time
0:57:18 > 0:57:23here at Fort William and with Danny Hart in second.
0:57:23 > 0:57:26What a brilliant, brilliant performance from him.
0:57:26 > 0:57:29I couldn't ask to do it anywhere else.
0:57:29 > 0:57:32All my family's here and all my friends.
0:57:32 > 0:57:34My dad was crying at the bottom and it was just,
0:57:34 > 0:57:39I wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for my dad, so thanks to him and to my team.
0:57:39 > 0:57:42And the final placings look like this:
0:57:42 > 0:57:44for the Scots, Ben Cathro finished in 19th place,
0:57:44 > 0:57:48with Ruaridh Cunningham just beating him to come 17th.
0:57:48 > 0:57:53New Zealand's Brook MacDonald was the third fastest rider,
0:57:53 > 0:57:57Britain's Danny Hart was second,
0:57:57 > 0:58:01but the winner for the fourth time with that fantastic time
0:58:01 > 0:58:05of 4:43:85 was Greg Minnaar from South Africa.
0:58:05 > 0:58:08It's not easy coming back to try and win. Everyone expects you to do well
0:58:08 > 0:58:12and all I wanted to do was nail that middle section where I lost
0:58:12 > 0:58:15a lot of time in the qualifier, and I made a mistake there so I knew
0:58:15 > 0:58:19I had to push hard down the bottom, but I did it and pulled it off.
0:58:20 > 0:58:22That's it for this month's Adventure Show.
0:58:22 > 0:58:24Next time, we're heading over the water
0:58:24 > 0:58:28for one of the toughest events in the country, the Jura Fell Race.
0:58:28 > 0:58:30We'll see you then. Bye for now.
