:00:31. > :00:36.Welcome to week two of the Championship. Welcome to Celtic

:00:37. > :00:43.Park. It's the holders against Derry. Will it be say tasty,

:00:44. > :00:47.sunshine football? Derry reveal absolutely nothing as they leave the

:00:48. > :00:51.bus. They are defending in their own ground a substantial reputation, up

:00:52. > :01:01.against Mickey Harte's men, current holders Tyrone. John -- Sean

:01:02. > :01:05.Cavanagh with one last hurrah and very much the fulcrum. The full

:01:06. > :01:11.sweep of the foil behind, snaking along. I have two of Ulster

:01:12. > :01:20.football's finest front men alongside me. Is it Groundhog Day or

:01:21. > :01:25.do we have cause for optimism? Always cause for optimism. Derry are

:01:26. > :01:29.up against it today. The good thing for them is that no one expects

:01:30. > :01:33.anything from them. Tyrone are overwhelming favourites, looking

:01:34. > :01:37.very relaxed and it's up to Derry to bring something different than we

:01:38. > :01:42.have seen so far this year. Do Derry have something different to bring,

:01:43. > :01:47.Paddy? The bookmakers have Tyrone by five points and they don't often get

:01:48. > :01:51.it wrong. Derry will be looking for a more spirited performance than

:01:52. > :01:55.last year. Derry will have to get into Tyrone's faces and physically

:01:56. > :02:00.match up to them and make it difficult. We welcome your comments

:02:01. > :02:07.and observations. This is how to contact us at the usual social media

:02:08. > :02:11.outlets. Get in touch and we will put your questions and observations

:02:12. > :02:12.to the boys. We remember last year. Oshima killed well

:02:13. > :02:28.what will Derry have learned? There was a bit of optimism around Derry

:02:29. > :02:31.last year but it was soon quietened. The game was effectively over after

:02:32. > :02:36.ten or 15 minutes. Derry showed very little fight and Tyrone put their

:02:37. > :02:44.foot off the accelerator towards the end. 11 points flattered Derry in

:02:45. > :02:48.the end. It seemed easy enough last year, Tyrone were in second gear. I

:02:49. > :02:55.think Derry paid them too much respect, the likes of Neil Sludden,

:02:56. > :03:01.McCann, and O'Neill, they were left untouched last year. Is that

:03:02. > :03:06.resource there in Derry? Can Damian Barton get it out of them? That's

:03:07. > :03:15.the thing, do Derry have the players that can do it? Going back to 2006,

:03:16. > :03:19.when Derry were playing Omagh, nobody gave them a chance then, but

:03:20. > :03:24.if they get the match-ups right, they will put them under pressure to

:03:25. > :03:29.see what they've got. Let's see if our resident bloodhound has sniffed

:03:30. > :03:33.out any pre-match news. For the second consecutive week, neither

:03:34. > :03:36.manager has made any personnel changes. Although I would expect

:03:37. > :03:50.some switches within the Tyrone setup, missing likes of Conal

:03:51. > :03:54.McCann. All the talk this year has been, how do Tyrone play? Mickey

:03:55. > :03:58.Harte in the latter stages tried Donnelly alongside Sean Cavanagh.

:03:59. > :04:02.Donnelly is a two-time all-star at midfield. Wearing number 15 today,

:04:03. > :04:06.but you would expect he would play the role around the centre of the

:04:07. > :04:10.pitch. Conor Meyler at full forward, will probably play in that sector as

:04:11. > :04:16.well. A lot of switches for Tyrone, not only in defence but into attack.

:04:17. > :04:26.For Derry, everything I hear is that they will go very defensive in this

:04:27. > :04:31.account. They are without the likes of... It'll be up to the likes of

:04:32. > :04:36.Danny Tallon, the exciting young forward, to make the difference.

:04:37. > :04:43.Paddy, take is on a trip through the Derry starting 15. It's a big day

:04:44. > :04:44.for Ben McKinless in goals. Yet to play a senior Championship game with

:04:45. > :05:06.his club. They welcome back Ciaran McFaul in

:05:07. > :05:10.central defence. They have four inside forwards within the six

:05:11. > :05:16.forward. Who will be the two forwards? We don't know. McGuckin,

:05:17. > :05:21.you have looked at him. Do you expect he will be roving today? He

:05:22. > :05:32.has been fit for the club for the last few league games. One of

:05:33. > :05:36.Derry's best performers, Danny Heavron. Become ghost between the

:05:37. > :05:43.midfield and forward line and he can score. Expecting McGuckin and Danny

:05:44. > :05:46.Heavron to come out. They will need big games for Tyrone today. Looking

:05:47. > :05:53.at last it, that will be the blueprint. It is. A lot of changes

:05:54. > :05:57.in Tyrone in that time. Looking at the defensive changes, they haven't

:05:58. > :06:01.got a huge amount of experience. Hampsey is the most inexperienced

:06:02. > :06:04.going in there. A lot revolves around the half forward line and how

:06:05. > :06:14.they can break forward. In the middle of the field, McCann, Conor

:06:15. > :06:17.Meyler and McGeary, they have brought their form into today. They

:06:18. > :06:22.will be the biggest players. The biggest conundrum is how they line

:06:23. > :06:26.up upfront. Bradley will stay inside, and I expect Sean Kavanagh

:06:27. > :06:29.to stay inside with Sludden in a diamond formation. All the other

:06:30. > :06:34.players are quite defensive minded and they will be expected to do a

:06:35. > :06:43.bit of work behind the ball. The big thing that Tyrone -based most things

:06:44. > :06:47.on is Tiernan McCann breaking forward. And Peter Harte, he is the

:06:48. > :06:56.constant in the Tyrone team and the one you can rely on. He is normally

:06:57. > :07:01.man marked by the opposition. The big thing about Peter Harte is that

:07:02. > :07:04.last year he played in an Ulster final and kicked an unbelievable

:07:05. > :07:08.score to get Tyrone over the line in that game. I think he has brought a

:07:09. > :07:12.lot to his game since then. He realises now he's one of the older

:07:13. > :07:15.members of the team and is a leader. Tyrone need to get scores from all

:07:16. > :07:30.over the field. They don't have marquee forwards. O'Neill, McCurry

:07:31. > :07:38.and Murkowski worthy/ steer. None of them are starting now. They don't

:07:39. > :07:46.have a marksman. -- worthy starters last time out. Peter Harte can punch

:07:47. > :07:56.holes in your defence. Looking at the Derry team, I would like to see

:07:57. > :08:02.Ciaran McFaul. He is fit and has some fight in his game. There are

:08:03. > :08:14.rumours Enda Lynn might pick him up. Caris Williams is also there. You

:08:15. > :08:21.have Niall Sludden, so they have three or four guns, Tyrone. Is there

:08:22. > :08:24.enough cutting edge with Derry upfront if McGuckin is withdrawn?

:08:25. > :08:28.It's a big day for Danny Tallon and Niall Loughlin in particular. I

:08:29. > :08:34.taught Niall Loughlin in school up until a couple of years ago. Two

:08:35. > :08:39.young lads. He has shown piles of ability. It's a big day whether they

:08:40. > :08:42.can get much change out of a very experienced Tyrone full-back line.

:08:43. > :08:45.If you are looking for something different from Derry today, you

:08:46. > :08:51.would expect them to have the intensity. It sounds old school, but

:08:52. > :08:55.get into Tyrone's faces. You would expect that to be different this

:08:56. > :08:59.year. The team is under Damian Barton, so I would expect them to

:09:00. > :09:04.get in their faces, maybe even early on. Armagh did it Cavan a couple of

:09:05. > :09:10.years ago. Maybe that's where Derry need to start today. We will hear

:09:11. > :09:13.more from you part-time and full-time. We invited clubs from

:09:14. > :09:16.across the province to get in touch last week to let us know what's

:09:17. > :09:25.going on at grass roots level. Among those to follow up was the Saint

:09:26. > :09:29.Paulclub from Belfast. Managed by the man who took Antrim to their

:09:30. > :09:34.last all hurling final. A man who has dedicated his life to hurling. A

:09:35. > :09:38.great day out for all. You can get more of that coverage on the BBC

:09:39. > :09:43.sport Northern Ireland website. And keep in touch through the usual

:09:44. > :09:47.social media outlets. It's the quarterfinal of the Ulster

:09:48. > :09:55.championship, a first outing of the summer for the holders, Tyrone. Can

:09:56. > :10:02.Derry stage an ambush? The match commentary team. We can join Thomas

:10:03. > :10:07.Niblock. COMMENTATOR: The players led by Enda Lynn hoping for the best

:10:08. > :10:11.today. Hoping for the victory, but out of the inner core of Derry in

:10:12. > :10:15.footballers, expectation in the county has perhaps never been lower.

:10:16. > :10:18.Nobody except one person I met coming into the ground expects Derry

:10:19. > :10:23.to win today. A siege mentality built for those men on the inside

:10:24. > :10:27.because Tyrone have shown their class, the defending champions. But

:10:28. > :10:30.there is something in the air whenever Derry play Tyrone that

:10:31. > :10:35.gives Derry a chance, something to suggest it won't be as

:10:36. > :10:41.straightforward as we think it is. Martin McCue is with me and

:10:42. > :10:45.commentary. It was said in the week that the rivalry no longer exists

:10:46. > :10:50.between Derry and Tyrone because Derry have fallen so far behind. Any

:10:51. > :10:53.truth in that? Looking at last year's match, the last five times

:10:54. > :10:58.they have played, Tyrone have won easily every time they have played.

:10:59. > :11:01.They have to use that stuff, put it up in the dressing room and get back

:11:02. > :11:06.to the Derry fight that we knew way back. I remember when I was playing

:11:07. > :11:10.football, Derry were the hardest team to beat and they always came up

:11:11. > :11:18.with someone. I remember wanting to play Tyrone as all Ireland

:11:19. > :11:26.champions. They put everyone behind the ball and won by six points. I

:11:27. > :11:29.expect Derry to get in their faces today and put some pride back in the

:11:30. > :11:32.jersey. The disappointing thing is, they are playing at home and they

:11:33. > :11:35.barely got a cheer when they came out of the field. Tyrone look like

:11:36. > :11:41.the home team. There doesn't seem to much faith in the Derry team. The

:11:42. > :11:44.inner core, the red and white jerseys in a huddle before throw in.

:11:45. > :11:52.If the belief is there, it doesn't matter what everybody thinks. The

:11:53. > :11:57.finely tuned legs of the Tyrone players. Number 14, Sean Cavanagh,

:11:58. > :12:02.what a player to still be going so strong but he insists it's his final

:12:03. > :12:05.season. I saw somebody doing an interview with him and I found out

:12:06. > :12:10.how many players he has played with. He has had some difference from the

:12:11. > :12:14.tiny started. A great credit to Tyrone and himself and a great role

:12:15. > :12:17.model. We will have a moment's reflection because there have been

:12:18. > :12:24.two deaths in the Derry family in last couple of weeks. Dermot Devlin,

:12:25. > :12:27.a former chairman, lived in Magherafelt most of his life. He

:12:28. > :12:34.passed away and was buried on Friday. County chairman between 75

:12:35. > :12:40.and 77. And Tommy Doherty, the man who played in the 1958 Derry team

:12:41. > :12:45.against Dublin in the final. Tommy and Dermot will be remembered here

:12:46. > :14:07.in a moment's silence. A round of applause around Celtic

:14:08. > :14:16.Park. Hannah Ferguson singing for us. Ben McKinless, number one, he

:14:17. > :14:25.played with the minors last year, his first year with senior football,

:14:26. > :14:28.between the sticks. His 14th year as the championship referee, and he

:14:29. > :14:36.refereed the all Ireland final replay between Dublin and Mayo in

:14:37. > :14:39.2016. We will need his experience today because when Derry and Tyrone

:14:40. > :14:43.typically clash, there is generally fireworks. And he knows all about

:14:44. > :14:48.them. What you said is true. You need leaders on a field. Doesn't

:14:49. > :14:51.matter what age you are, you have to become a leader, and we know Tyrone

:14:52. > :14:57.have them in Sean Kavanagh and Peter Harte. Derry have to show leadership

:14:58. > :15:04.qualities and this is the day to do it. They can already see everybody

:15:05. > :15:07.moving about. All the different changes. McGuckin at full forward,

:15:08. > :15:11.going straight to the middle of the field. So has Ciaran McFaul. It's

:15:12. > :15:20.helter-skelter in terms of who lines up where. It doesn't really matter,

:15:21. > :15:27.15 against 15, the ball thrown in and Kavanagh takes it. A free for

:15:28. > :15:34.Derry taken quickly. A free, the referee says yes. We have seen a

:15:35. > :15:38.tactic, the ball to Bradley. Using his experience to hold off his man

:15:39. > :15:45.and draw the foul. Very strong upper body and very small on the ground!

:15:46. > :15:52.Maqueda going over the top of him. Carlus McWilliams, he played sweeper

:15:53. > :15:56.all year for Derry but has moved forward, but expect him to move back

:15:57. > :16:00.to play sweeper. Peter Harte, the last time he kicked a ball in the

:16:01. > :16:07.Ulster championship, it was the winning score in the final against

:16:08. > :16:14.Donegal last year. His first kick in the Championship of 2017 is one he

:16:15. > :16:24.would perhaps like to forget. It's something Tyrone need, a natural

:16:25. > :16:27.free taker. In the late 80s and early 90s Tyrone didn't have a

:16:28. > :16:38.dedicated free taker to get them over the line. Tyrone like a

:16:39. > :16:43.clinical free taker to snap them up. Tyrone. Peter Harte shooting off his

:16:44. > :16:48.left boot, going to the right and wide. That is uncharacteristic for

:16:49. > :16:51.somebody with his talent. It's not like him. The first chance was an

:16:52. > :16:58.easy one to put over the bar. It will affect his confidence. Too bad

:16:59. > :17:05.wides by a quality player. Brendan Rogers charging forward. Ciaran

:17:06. > :17:09.McFaul to Enda Lynn, the captain and leader of the team driving at the

:17:10. > :17:16.heart of the Tyrone defence. Brilliant tackling by Kieran

:17:17. > :17:22.McGeary. He got his hand in. Tyrone straightaway up the field. Conal

:17:23. > :17:27.McCann, the brother of Tiernan McCann, giving it to the man inside.

:17:28. > :17:33.Mattie Donnelly, don't expect to see him in the full forward line. Rogers

:17:34. > :17:39.driving at the Derry defence. Creating some space. He has been

:17:40. > :17:44.bottled up. Tries the flick to get it into the path of Mattie Donnelly.

:17:45. > :17:49.A side ball for Derry. Good defending by Derry. We saw great

:17:50. > :17:54.defending by Kieran McGeary at the other side as well. Very defensive

:17:55. > :18:01.from both teams, playing with a lot of men behind the ball. Derry on the

:18:02. > :18:07.attack. Ball in the hands of Benny Heron. He decides to go backwards

:18:08. > :18:19.giving it to the centre-half forward Niall Loughlin. The fellow club man

:18:20. > :18:23.of Loughlin, Enda Lynn. 14 behind the ball. Ryan Bell trying to take

:18:24. > :18:31.on three players but bottled up. Chocs the ball back out. Chrissy

:18:32. > :18:34.McKaigue. Enda Lynn has found some space. He goes for the score with

:18:35. > :18:43.the outside of the boot but it doesn't curl in enough. Goes wide.

:18:44. > :18:47.Derry's first wide. With both teams behind the ball a lot you need to be

:18:48. > :18:50.able to score from distance. It's important to do that in training.

:18:51. > :18:54.The other thing you don't want to do is carry the ball into tackles.

:18:55. > :19:00.Niall Sludden made his Championship debut last year in this same

:19:01. > :19:04.fixture. A long ball coming in. Brendan Rogers adjudged to have

:19:05. > :19:10.fouled Sean Cavanagh. A free in from the 30 metre line. Great experience

:19:11. > :19:15.from Sean Cavanagh. The ball going over their heads. He did really well

:19:16. > :19:23.to doubt his hand into Brendan Rogers. Needs to be cute. Derry

:19:24. > :19:28.teams in the past taught a lot of players to have their hands out when

:19:29. > :19:35.the referee is looking. Sean Cavanagh going to hit this one. A

:19:36. > :19:40.change of free taker. Kicks from the 13. The umpire's flag goes up. A

:19:41. > :19:46.point to Derry, Sean Cavanagh with the first score. Looks like Bradley

:19:47. > :19:54.and Sean Cavanagh, a little and large inside. Looks like Sean

:19:55. > :20:01.Kavanagh will knock down to Bradley. Well won by McGuckin. Takes the

:20:02. > :20:10.mark. Derry on the attack. Straightaway comes Conor McAtamney.

:20:11. > :20:12.Bottled up but gets a free in. Switches the play straightaway.

:20:13. > :20:16.Ciaran McFaul driving down the right-hand side. Going for an

:20:17. > :20:25.ambitious shot. It doesn't have the accuracy. Two wides for Derry. Still

:20:26. > :20:28.a point between the teams. No doubt they have been practising their

:20:29. > :20:32.long-range kick in. The referee blowing for a short range kickout.

:20:33. > :20:39.Derry working on a long kick in, but the two shots so far have been

:20:40. > :20:44.disappointing. Maurice Deegan brings the ball up, asking to players to

:20:45. > :20:50.come in. Ryan Bell of Derry and, Kavanagh of Tyrone. Tyrone went up

:20:51. > :20:57.straightaway. Barry Heron three straightaway. For the briefest of

:20:58. > :21:08.seconds he was through on goal. Maurice Deegan said he travelled.

:21:09. > :21:12.You can't carry it into the tackle like that. Interesting and Peter

:21:13. > :21:20.Harte asked what he gave the free four, that his experience.

:21:21. > :21:27.Conor Meyler weaving his way through the Derry defence. Had a magnificent

:21:28. > :21:35.game against Derry last year. Man of the Match that day.

:21:36. > :21:42.Tyrone had it a few minutes ago but now Derry have all 14 players behind

:21:43. > :21:45.the ball. Colm Cavanagh gives undergoes but doesn't take the

:21:46. > :21:53.return pass. Instead Bradley tries to slip it inside to Sludden. Shot

:21:54. > :21:59.down from behind by Mako Tammy. The face tells his own story. He knows

:22:00. > :22:03.that. You have to be disciplined in the tackle. Put the pressure on the

:22:04. > :22:11.referee to blow for over tackling. You can't make a tackle like that.

:22:12. > :22:17.Why make slightly more difficult this time. Further from goal and

:22:18. > :22:23.outside the D, but in line with the red spot of the crossbar at Celtic

:22:24. > :22:29.Park. Over it goes. Sean Cavanagh with his 235th appearance for the

:22:30. > :22:37.Tyrone senior teams. That's some record. He's important. They have

:22:38. > :22:44.brought a lot of young lads through and it's very important sideline

:22:45. > :22:52.ball for Tyrone. Conor Meyler kicks it short to Tiernan McCann. Peter

:22:53. > :22:55.Harte trying to move forward. Gets to Mark Bradley, who has seen a lot

:22:56. > :23:06.of the ball in the opening stages of the game. Shot from Conal McCann.

:23:07. > :23:11.You have called it right, Mark Bradley is causing problems. What

:23:12. > :23:15.he's brilliant at is running off the ball and his ability to make space.

:23:16. > :23:20.He can make five or six runs off the ball. That's what you need him for.

:23:21. > :23:26.And he's very unselfish. He has made their last two scores. Danny Heavron

:23:27. > :23:34.gets his mitts on the ball for the first time. Perhaps they will be

:23:35. > :23:41.tempted to go for a score here. Instead they leave it to Ryan Bell,

:23:42. > :23:47.ever a very capable player of scoring from this range. The

:23:48. > :23:54.Ballinderry club man. A difficult first free. It does have the

:23:55. > :24:01.distance but lacks a bit of accuracy. It goes right and its

:24:02. > :24:09.Derry's third wide. All from long range as well. Two from play and one

:24:10. > :24:14.from that free. The movement of fronts doesn't look good for Derry.

:24:15. > :24:23.They seem to be taking potshots from distance. Niall Loughlin adjudged to

:24:24. > :24:30.have taken a foul. Tyrone take it short. Mark Bradley again, tempted

:24:31. > :24:35.to take on his man. He tries to scoop it in but the referee blows

:24:36. > :24:39.his whistle. Derry are struggling with Mark Bradley. He dipped his

:24:40. > :24:44.shoulder. Did enough to get in front of the Derry player. At the very

:24:45. > :24:48.worst he was going to be found. Time to make a switch with Niall Keenan

:24:49. > :24:52.coming across to pick him up. Bradley is very small. Sometimes we

:24:53. > :24:55.say the modern-day game is for the big, physical man. But when a small

:24:56. > :25:03.man can could put his body in like that, with the vision and pacey has,

:25:04. > :25:09.this free should go over. Peter Harte knocks it over the bar. The

:25:10. > :25:14.fourth time in ten minutes Derry have committed a foul inside their

:25:15. > :25:27.own 45 metre line. Three of the four points Tyrone have have come

:25:28. > :26:03.Ronan McNamee pops the ball outside. Sludden, a bit of argy-bargy off the

:26:04. > :26:06.ball. Brennan finds Sludden, who missed much of the league because of

:26:07. > :26:16.a hamstring injury. Good ball inside. Chopped down again but the

:26:17. > :26:24.referee says no foul. A third man tackle. Noise from the fans, the

:26:25. > :26:28.referee says play away. Tyrone win it back with Sludden again at the

:26:29. > :26:41.heart of things. Peter Harte pops it outside. McGeary at tempted to go

:26:42. > :26:46.for a score. It's caught by Ben McKinless. First Championship start

:26:47. > :26:51.at the age of just 19. Niall Loughlin. Strangely very quiet at

:26:52. > :27:09.Celtic Park. Ciaran McFaul pops it inside.

:27:10. > :27:15.Chrissy McKaigue. Five passes and Derry haven't made a metre. Perhaps

:27:16. > :27:26.they will now. Emmett McGuckin. As the dummy and sells it well. ,

:27:27. > :27:30.McCague, could be tackled. The on running Sean Kavanagh doesn't tackle

:27:31. > :27:37.him. Derry are patient in their build-up. McGuckin making runs in

:27:38. > :27:43.the forward line but have sold well by Rory Brennan and Derry give the

:27:44. > :27:46.ball away. It's good defence from Tyrone. A Derry man is down asking

:27:47. > :27:56.for help, looks injured. The referee says play away. Colm Cavanagh gives

:27:57. > :28:01.it back. Conor Meyler with the shot, knew he would be blocked. The ball

:28:02. > :28:08.is played on. Mark Bradley, so quick on the turn. He gets space for

:28:09. > :28:12.himself. It's a super score. Brilliant point for Mark Bradley. He

:28:13. > :28:17.lit up the Tyrone Championship this year. Mickey Harte will be very

:28:18. > :28:21.happy with that. Derry are struggling to mark him. You fear for

:28:22. > :28:25.Derry already in this match. They have no system to their play up

:28:26. > :28:34.front at all. Looking at the Tyrone team. Interestingly half forward

:28:35. > :28:39.team. Kieran McGeary, Niall Sludden and Conor Meyler, they are causing

:28:40. > :28:43.problems already. Both men went for the ball and Niall Sludden seems to

:28:44. > :28:50.have accidentally clipped his ankle. Yellow card given to Kieran McGeary.

:28:51. > :28:57.Ryan Bell looks in a severe state of pain. The yellow card is for the

:28:58. > :29:03.late tackle he had early on. That's a black card. Ryan Bell looks in big

:29:04. > :29:06.trouble. One of the finest underage football is coming through the Derry

:29:07. > :29:19.system, and he is being lifted on his feet. -- footballers coming

:29:20. > :29:25.through the Derry system. Derry just stopped him. If that is a third man

:29:26. > :29:29.tackle... Enda Lynn kind of ran into him as well. The fact the referee

:29:30. > :29:35.felt it was a third man tackle, but then figuring out he had given the

:29:36. > :29:38.ball, so they go with a yellow card. The half forward line are causing

:29:39. > :29:43.problems with their pace. Derry try to make sure they don't give away a

:29:44. > :29:47.goal. Tyrone on the attack straightaway. Peter Harte operating

:29:48. > :30:05.at full forward. Back out to Mark Bradley. And he is human!

:30:06. > :30:11.Mattie Donnelly is such a ferocious tackler. Derry have yet to score.

:30:12. > :30:24.Perhaps they will now. Mattie Donnelly gave it away. Danny Heavron

:30:25. > :30:30.trying to weave his way through, chopped down, and it will be a free

:30:31. > :30:37.Fred Perry. They need to give the crowd a lift. They need to give

:30:38. > :30:41.everybody a lift. They have had the three shots, they are not happy with

:30:42. > :31:03.the ball. He probably said, if it is a Derry

:31:04. > :31:14.free, we will kick the ball out. Derry's top scorer is suspended. 50%

:31:15. > :31:19.of his scores have come from frees. It has the direction. Hanging in the

:31:20. > :31:32.air. A good point from Niall Loughlin. Just one point from play

:31:33. > :31:38.so far. That is a great score. But Tyrone have been the better side.

:31:39. > :31:55.Their pace is causing a lot of problems.

:31:56. > :32:08.The referee says there is a foul, and it will be a free. Conal McCann

:32:09. > :32:16.coming through, Benny Heron held his arm. He started reasonably

:32:17. > :32:24.impressively today. Has he kicked a point from play as well? What he is

:32:25. > :32:29.very good at is taking the ball off the shoulder at pace. That is what

:32:30. > :32:43.you need, with teams getting blanket defence. It is Sean Cavanagh's third

:32:44. > :32:46.score today. Derry need to get into this game, otherwise it will be over

:32:47. > :32:54.at half-time. It does not look good for them. You need people who want

:32:55. > :32:58.the ball, they do not want the ball, they are letting somebody else do

:32:59. > :32:59.it. The next ten minutes will be important for them, to stay in the

:33:00. > :33:22.match. That is a great score. That is what

:33:23. > :33:30.you do, pull out wide, cos teams cover the D, that is a good score.

:33:31. > :33:35.That is the first long-range point that they have. If there has been

:33:36. > :33:42.any criticism of Tyrone, they lacked a cutting edge. They had 15 wides

:33:43. > :33:48.against Mayo, there were five points up against Dublin, with ten or 15

:33:49. > :33:57.minutes to go, and Dublin one that, or ended up winning a draw. There

:33:58. > :34:05.has been an accusation, but they are doing well at the moment. They free,

:34:06. > :34:11.Danny McKeever and protests. He will not change the referee's mind. Total

:34:12. > :34:16.indiscipline. They will make sure they will not concede a goal, but

:34:17. > :34:22.they have given away silly frees. They will kick them over the bar.

:34:23. > :34:25.Brilliant play again by Mattie Donnelly, taking the ball at pace,

:34:26. > :34:33.that is what is causing the problems. What you said against the

:34:34. > :34:41.Mayo game, Tyrone always have possession, they have to convert

:34:42. > :34:47.that into schools. Sean Cavanagh, right footed, he was never going to

:34:48. > :34:56.miss that. He extends the lead to five. What would you say is Derry's

:34:57. > :35:01.biggest problem so far? They do not seem to have a system. Individually

:35:02. > :35:05.they are trying to do it and hoping that it will work out, and they need

:35:06. > :35:10.people to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Their

:35:11. > :35:17.indiscipline is terrible so far. Conal McCann doing well to break

:35:18. > :35:20.down the ball. A free for Tyrone. Niall Sludden, schoolteacher, an

:35:21. > :35:46.impressive season in 2016. The ball has height and direction.

:35:47. > :35:56.Two goals between the teams. Brilliant again. Simple enough

:35:57. > :36:00.football. Put your body on the line, Comcast and got it, laid it off to

:36:01. > :36:07.his team-mate, Rory Brennan putting pressure on, kicks a good score.

:36:08. > :36:13.Niall Loughlin and Ronan McNamee the only players in the Tyrone half of

:36:14. > :36:16.the field. Congested in the Derry half, it has seen most of the

:36:17. > :36:19.action, most of it in the hands of the Tyrone players. A sideline ball

:36:20. > :36:43.for Tyrone. He slid in and got it off the deck.

:36:44. > :36:47.Even though Peter Harte Mrs two easy chances, he has the confidence, he

:36:48. > :36:52.seems to be able to shrug it off and continue with his normal game. That

:36:53. > :37:04.is a good sign, mentally strong, which is very important. We do not

:37:05. > :37:12.want any more of those today. It is all Tyrone so far. Derry have been

:37:13. > :37:16.disappointing. Get into their faces and put pressure on, but they have

:37:17. > :37:25.not done it at all. Peter Harte, left footed. It goes wide. You

:37:26. > :37:32.almost feel bad for bringing it up, but it has come up in the last two

:37:33. > :37:40.or three years, frees. They do not have a take that they can rely upon.

:37:41. > :37:46.I would give the left footed ones to Mark Bradley. He is a brilliant free

:37:47. > :37:56.kick for his club. Take the pressure off Peter Harte, and use him in a

:37:57. > :37:58.different role, what he is good at. Perhaps they are taking the

:37:59. > :38:27.responsibility of him. Derry are really struggling to get

:38:28. > :38:34.the ball inside the Tyrone 45 metre line.

:38:35. > :38:42.Such is the way of modern-day Gaelic football. Mickey Harte gave a

:38:43. > :38:45.passionate plea this week of how good a Gaelic football is, and he

:38:46. > :38:57.thinks people are criticising too much about it. That wide, Enda Lynn

:38:58. > :39:00.kicked it, but who is trying to block the ball? Mark Bradley. That

:39:01. > :39:06.is the way it is. The difference in the teams, Tyrone had play that

:39:07. > :39:09.football, Derry do not know. They are playing at pace, but Derry are

:39:10. > :39:17.laboured, Assen get back. I think he was fouled, that is a bad

:39:18. > :39:30.decision. Emmett McGuckin has been relatively

:39:31. > :39:51.quiet so far. It is a good score from Ciaran

:39:52. > :39:56.McFaul. It is important to keep the four or five points. That is better

:39:57. > :39:58.movement. Enda Lynn is the one player who can add the pace, so they

:39:59. > :40:17.need to get him on the ball. The umpire says it is wide. The kick

:40:18. > :40:20.out he can very quickly. If you are a frustrated Derry manager on the

:40:21. > :40:26.sideline and you are trailing by five points and somebody in your

:40:27. > :40:29.team has plenty of space, the kick out is hit to perfection, but he

:40:30. > :40:36.picks the ball up off the ground to give away a free... He has given it

:40:37. > :40:45.because he was not outside the 20 metre line when the ball was kicked.

:40:46. > :40:52.That is the rule. Another wide. That is their fifth. The last couple of

:40:53. > :40:55.attacks, Tyrone, they have been too confident. Rory Brennan and Mark

:40:56. > :41:16.Bradley. That time, Sean Cavanagh. The buzz of anticipation when Enda

:41:17. > :41:21.Lynn gets the ball. There was a foul, a free for Derry. A chance for

:41:22. > :41:28.Benny Heron to get his name on the scoresheet. Enda Lynn going in one

:41:29. > :41:33.direction and another. The tackle comes in, he is brought down, it is

:41:34. > :41:39.a free. A chance to narrow the gap. Danny Heavron will take it.

:41:40. > :41:58.A fantastic free. Brilliant, and let's give credit to Enda Lynn. He

:41:59. > :42:07.has run at Tyrone and cause them to file, and they have kicked a good

:42:08. > :42:10.score, two good schools. The kick by Ciaran McFaul, and that one, so two

:42:11. > :42:46.important scores. He gets it. The halfpipe increases

:42:47. > :42:53.the lead. I know Peter Harte is playing in the forward line, but

:42:54. > :42:57.Tiernan McCann and Rory Brennan have points, you need scores from there.

:42:58. > :42:58.That sums up the difference, Tyrone can hit the long-range points, Derry

:42:59. > :43:43.are missing them. Danny Tallon not able to make it.

:43:44. > :43:46.Let's go pitch side to Thomas. Tyrone preparing to make a change,

:43:47. > :43:53.Frank Burns will replace Kieran McGeary. Chrissy McKaigue is picking

:43:54. > :43:56.up Mattie Donnelly, tracking him, each means you are missing Chrissy

:43:57. > :44:04.McKaigue in an attacking sense. The replacement is straight on the

:44:05. > :44:29.field of play. A high tackle, the referee says it

:44:30. > :44:54.is a free. Brendan Rodgers is very comfortable in possession.

:44:55. > :45:04.Tyrone just look better. Two balls that Derry try to kick. Work the

:45:05. > :45:07.hand pass. This is where they are dangerous, breaking at speed. That

:45:08. > :45:25.one drops short. Mattie Donnelly is such a committed

:45:26. > :45:50.defender, a fabulous player. The referee says it is a free the

:45:51. > :45:57.Derry. Derry had to work hard to get it. I blame Tyrone, they have taken

:45:58. > :46:06.three potshots. Taking the wrong option. They are getting a bit

:46:07. > :46:12.overconfident. You have to put the team away, but Derry are getting

:46:13. > :46:15.scores of it. Earlier on, they were taking the right options, giving the

:46:16. > :46:21.ball to Mark Bradley, but they. Doing that. Sometimes the players

:46:22. > :46:27.think, I will kick a point here. This is a critical time for Derry.

:46:28. > :46:31.If they keep in touch, there will still be a game at half-time, but if

:46:32. > :46:37.Tyrone bank one into the net, that could be curtains. We saw that last

:46:38. > :46:41.week in Donegal, Antrim were going OK, but then in the final five

:46:42. > :46:51.minutes the game was lost. This is difficult for Benny Heron. It goes

:46:52. > :46:56.wide. Sometimes they are better kicked out of your hands, because

:46:57. > :46:58.you can gain a couple of yards. He is good off the ground, that was

:46:59. > :47:16.disappointing. Tyrone too well to regain

:47:17. > :47:30.possession. Mark Bradley has been the go to man

:47:31. > :47:41.during the first half an hour. The referee says it is a free. Niall

:47:42. > :47:44.Keenan is a superb young footballer, and he is able to stick with him and

:47:45. > :47:49.stay there, but despite their best efforts, Mark Bradley almost seems

:47:50. > :47:57.on Mark Noble. Niall Keenan did really well the. He will be

:47:58. > :48:04.disappointed. It is hard to see the Derry numbers. They have made the

:48:05. > :48:10.switch we talked about, they have put Niall Keenan across, he is doing

:48:11. > :48:14.well. Mark Bradley loves the solo dummy, he is the one player who

:48:15. > :48:23.keeps doing it. It is hard to do it in the modern game.

:48:24. > :48:29.Do not know how long it is since Tyrone scored, but they have gone

:48:30. > :48:33.off the boil a bit. It is their sixth wide. They are well in control

:48:34. > :49:06.of the game as it approaches half-time.

:49:07. > :49:15.Derry having more success over the far side.

:49:16. > :49:26.Tyrone making it so difficult for Derry to make any kind of space.

:49:27. > :49:35.That is three times they have kicked stupid balls M. Derry try to force

:49:36. > :49:51.it, which is bad news against Tyrone's event.

:49:52. > :49:57.The referee says it is a camera grow. Ciaran McFaul and Carlos

:49:58. > :50:04.McWilliams remonstrating with the referee. But the free has been

:50:05. > :50:11.given. Two minutes of added time. He has the hand up, the high tackle.

:50:12. > :50:19.You have to keep your hands down. You make a high tackle, you make it

:50:20. > :50:26.easy for the referee. The yellow card. Tyrone are getting away with

:50:27. > :50:32.short kick out. Derry should push up on them and get more belief, they

:50:33. > :50:37.did not show belief earlier. When Tyrone break, they are dangerous. A

:50:38. > :51:00.free for Tyrone. Over the bar. Five points for Sean

:51:01. > :51:09.Cavanagh, Derry's eight foul inside their own 45 metre line, and they

:51:10. > :51:16.have been punished. That sums it up. Derry, their discipline, five points

:51:17. > :51:24.from Sean Cavanagh, and they could have had more from frees.

:51:25. > :51:39.Tyrone Flood everybody back. Well taken by Conor McAtamney. The

:51:40. > :51:50.goalkeeper misses it. Danny Tallon went in to get a hand on it. Enda

:51:51. > :51:56.Lynn is chopped down it will be a free for Derry. The talk about

:51:57. > :52:01.blanket defences, with players running at them, the tackle has

:52:02. > :52:09.gone. Teams are struggling to tackle. If you get a one-on-one

:52:10. > :52:12.situation, we have seen it today, there has been scoring from frees

:52:13. > :52:32.given away. You tell the junk player, where you

:52:33. > :52:38.will take it, and go through all four yards ahead. The half-time

:52:39. > :52:43.whistle has been blown, it does not seem like a Championship game.

:52:44. > :52:50.Pedestrian at times, but Tyrone have their noses in front. Derry lack

:52:51. > :52:55.confidence and belief. Disappointing, they are not running

:52:56. > :53:00.to the dressing room, they are taking up a jog. You should care to

:53:01. > :53:08.the dressing room, get sorted out. Tyrone have been the better team.

:53:09. > :53:10.Mark Bradley the best player in the first half. It is looking like an

:53:11. > :53:31.easy enough victory for Tyrone. You improved as the half went on. It

:53:32. > :53:35.took us a while to get going, but once we started to run at them, and

:53:36. > :53:40.force them into the tackles, we created mayhem. The tackle at the

:53:41. > :53:47.other end is a source of concern. With do not want to give away so

:53:48. > :53:54.many frees. Mark Bradley cause you problems early on. Yes, Niall Keenan

:53:55. > :54:00.is on there now, he has done a good job. We need more of that throughout

:54:01. > :54:05.the field, engage with the tackle. How important is it to have pace in

:54:06. > :54:14.attack? You were started to get the rewards, especially with Enda Lynn

:54:15. > :54:18.and Ciaran McFaul. We went to lateral and we started to go across

:54:19. > :54:24.the field and back, and that lets them get their shield up. We need

:54:25. > :54:29.more of that, need to get Danny Tallon on the ball, give him the

:54:30. > :54:35.platform. If that one of the big concerns? So much excitement from

:54:36. > :54:42.him, but he has not isolated at times. It is because we are dropping

:54:43. > :54:47.men back. He will get on the ball in the second-half when it opens up,

:54:48. > :54:51.and will see some scoring from him. Will there be belief in the dressing

:54:52. > :54:56.room that you can turn around the 5-point deficit? I think so, the

:54:57. > :55:05.guys are positive. Damien will make sure they are. Plenty to discuss in

:55:06. > :55:14.the studio. Putting a positive spin on it. Our

:55:15. > :55:15.mystery player, some said it was too easy last week, but this week we

:55:16. > :55:47.have gone back to black and white. It has be flummoxed, but let us

:55:48. > :55:55.know, we will reveal all before the second half starts. Not a clue, I

:55:56. > :56:01.thought it was John Deere! No bad jokes, I promise! A lot of you have

:56:02. > :56:05.been getting in touch, we will go over the first half during

:56:06. > :56:11.half-time. Let's begin with Tyrone, notwithstanding that Sean Cavanagh

:56:12. > :56:16.took the frees, some fine scoring from play also, a lot of boys. We

:56:17. > :56:17.talked about the ability of the middle eight, they have all been

:56:18. > :56:28.effective. They have dominated in that area.

:56:29. > :56:32.They do not just rely on the mid-late. In Mark Bradley they have

:56:33. > :56:42.a good target man. He has been excellent. They just have that bit

:56:43. > :56:50.more quality. They are playing as a team. Some great passages of play

:56:51. > :56:54.through the middle. Well rehearsed. The fast hands to create shots for

:56:55. > :57:00.the players at pace, and they are cutting through Derry at will. If

:57:01. > :57:06.you of your comment, Derry to give Tyrone a scare, I am not sure! Pete

:57:07. > :57:12.is on fashion watch, he says Tyrone rocking their new socks. Another

:57:13. > :57:21.person says, I hope the referee does not steal the teams' thunder. How do

:57:22. > :57:25.you feel he has performed? It has not been great. We normally prefix

:57:26. > :57:30.this stuff when we talk about referees by saying that it is a

:57:31. > :57:39.difficult game. He got this wrong? Mark Bradley has done well. He has

:57:40. > :57:43.bought it. It is harmless. We normally say it is a difficult game

:57:44. > :57:48.to referee, but this game has not been particularly. The thing that

:57:49. > :57:52.bothers me about that incident, there are three things wrong, he

:57:53. > :57:57.waves play on, he goes back to say it is a third man tackle, and gives

:57:58. > :58:03.him a yellow card. The black cod is there, let's implemented. I do not

:58:04. > :58:09.think there was a hell of a lot in it. For a game that has not come to

:58:10. > :58:13.life yet, it is not the usual cut and thrust, imagine if the game was

:58:14. > :58:18.close with five minutes to go, it is those little things. Tyrone have got

:58:19. > :58:27.nine free kicks inside 45 metre line. It is a long time since they

:58:28. > :58:32.have got that many in a match. For Derry to have any chance, they need

:58:33. > :58:38.everything to go in their favour. I talked about how I wanted very to be

:58:39. > :58:44.physical, but how can you be physical if the referee is going to

:58:45. > :58:50.give the soft frees? We called the majority of them in real-time.

:58:51. > :58:58.Derry's biggest problem is they need to come and attack Tyrone from the

:58:59. > :59:07.middle of the field, rather than letting them into the 45. If they

:59:08. > :59:11.are printing their line out a bit, no harm being defensive, but bring

:59:12. > :59:18.the line out, if they create a free situation, it is not capable. They

:59:19. > :59:32.will kick 40, 50% of them. We will go pitch side, is Emmett McGuckin

:59:33. > :59:36.working midfield? Thomas, you have found somebody down there.

:59:37. > :59:42.We taught him to think into sandwiches in the stands, a

:59:43. > :59:48.different role now, having a nice time now. Happy with the decision? I

:59:49. > :59:54.think the time had come, with injuries. I tried my best to get up

:59:55. > :00:01.to that level again, but it was not to be. Watching the game today, not

:00:02. > :00:05.to say that it isn't difficult, but I am happy with my decision, and in

:00:06. > :00:10.the build up this morning you wish you were there, but I am happy now

:00:11. > :00:11.that I am sitting back with my wee girl and discussing what is going

:00:12. > :00:27.on. Are you still in a Tyrone WhatsApp

:00:28. > :00:32.group? I quickly left. No time to get messages up when I'm in the gym.

:00:33. > :00:36.In terms of the Tyrone first half performance, dominated possession

:00:37. > :00:39.and chances, but only five points ahead on the scoreboard. The shot

:00:40. > :00:47.selection per towards the end of the half, how much will it concern you

:00:48. > :00:53.in the dressing room? They had a couple of nice easy frees to settle

:00:54. > :00:56.themselves into the game. Tyrone were more efficient going forward.

:00:57. > :01:01.Breaking through with numbers and quick hands and creating pockets for

:01:02. > :01:06.the shots. In comparison to Derry coming forward, they were more

:01:07. > :01:11.lethargic. They weren't coming with numbers and Tyrone defending made

:01:12. > :01:16.their job easy. Tyrone have slacked off a bit towards the end of the

:01:17. > :01:19.half. Five points, Tyrone could be disappointed, they will feel they

:01:20. > :01:26.could be further ahead. Mark Bradley's nickname is sparky. He's

:01:27. > :01:33.certainly providing that spark with his contribution on and off the

:01:34. > :01:38.ball. He's been watched running off the ball. He's a bit like McGuigan.

:01:39. > :01:42.Reading the space and invading it where he needs to be. Not so much

:01:43. > :01:46.always getting the ball but creating pockets for the half forwards and

:01:47. > :01:50.halfbacks and midfielders to run onto. He's never happy with the one

:01:51. > :01:55.run, he makes continuous ones and it's a headache for the Derry

:01:56. > :02:01.defence. You have played with the likes of Canada, Murray and O'Neill.

:02:02. > :02:08.So much talk about Tyrone having a marquee forward who can grab for

:02:09. > :02:11.five per game and grab goal. There are a lot of younger fellas coming

:02:12. > :02:17.in and it's difficult to compare them. The likes of Stephen O'Neill,

:02:18. > :02:22.McGuigan, these are the among the greatest players to play the game. I

:02:23. > :02:26.think in time these boys will will get their opportunity. They are

:02:27. > :02:31.building themselves up and it will come for them eventually. Best

:02:32. > :02:41.player you played with and best you played against? Stephen O'Neill and

:02:42. > :02:45.Peter Cameron for his movement off the ball. And Colin Cooper for his

:02:46. > :02:52.vision of the ball for who I played against. Let's hope McGuigan hasn't

:02:53. > :02:56.taken all the sandwiches. STUDIO: Comparisons across generations are a

:02:57. > :03:04.little invidious, but we can say big Joe was a good one with two or

:03:05. > :03:11.Irelands to his name. Is the withdrawn role working today? It

:03:12. > :03:14.isn't. He has played full forward in the last three or four years and

:03:15. > :03:20.that hasn't worked either so they decided to try some different. He is

:03:21. > :03:26.not known for his mobility, he's a good ball player. Derry occasionally

:03:27. > :03:31.flattered to deceive. We can look at a couple of the scores. Loughlin

:03:32. > :03:36.particularly impressive. Enda Lynn has spotted... They have a load of

:03:37. > :03:40.space down the left-hand side all the time. This time for a change

:03:41. > :03:46.instead of shuffling the ball across, Loughlin takes it on himself

:03:47. > :03:50.and has a go. This is another great point from Ciaran McFaul. He was

:03:51. > :03:56.continuously getting forward into those positions but refused to

:03:57. > :04:00.shadow three or four times. When you are in that opportunity and you are

:04:01. > :04:05.25, 30 yards from goal, you have to have a pop. Danny Heavron Komula

:04:06. > :04:11.said he would nail that long-distance. I picked him as my

:04:12. > :04:16.one to watch before the game. He kicks scores regularly in club

:04:17. > :04:22.football. Derry are relying on wonder points. They are far too

:04:23. > :04:27.lateral. Derry had the ball for a minute throwing the ball sideways.

:04:28. > :04:30.Tyrone injected pace down the field. That is happening far too often.

:04:31. > :04:35.Some of you watching a none too impressed with what's on offer.

:04:36. > :04:44.Ciaran Fleming says, this is utter garbage. Another view, this is

:04:45. > :04:48.absolute poison. Are we peddling something of a Lineham? Has Gaelic

:04:49. > :04:54.football become very defensive and just a little staid? This man

:04:55. > :05:00.doesn't think so. Life has moved on. People don't drive Ford Anglia cars

:05:01. > :05:03.any more. The game moves on as well. We have to take ourselves out of the

:05:04. > :05:07.past and live in the present and accept this is the best at the

:05:08. > :05:11.minute. In time it will change and people will move it to a different

:05:12. > :05:14.place and the game will evolve in a different direction. We shouldn't

:05:15. > :05:17.listen to those people who keep saying things, even though they say

:05:18. > :05:28.it with conviction. Saying something with conviction doesn't make it

:05:29. > :05:33.right. I rather suspected Ciaran Fleming and our other viewers saying

:05:34. > :05:38.it was poison were saying it with conviction. Are you in the Mickey

:05:39. > :05:41.Harte camp or the poison camp? I'm somewhere in the middle. Some of the

:05:42. > :05:44.Gaelic football on offer nowadays is really good at some of it not so

:05:45. > :05:49.good. If you are addicted ago example of modern-day football, have

:05:50. > :05:53.a look at today's game. The first 45 minutes is an encapsulation of what

:05:54. > :05:57.we see every week. One team who is willing to go forward, who have a

:05:58. > :06:01.bit of cohesion about them, who are defensively sound and able to break

:06:02. > :06:06.quickly. And the other team seem to be making it up as they go along. We

:06:07. > :06:12.will broaden the discussion post match into the state of the modern

:06:13. > :06:17.game, but in brief, how do you feel? They will play how they see fit. He

:06:18. > :06:22.might think he doesn't have the resources of other teams, so they

:06:23. > :06:25.have to set up in a certain way. Tyrone play that game quite well.

:06:26. > :06:30.The problem is, Derry are trying to mirror that today and they can't do

:06:31. > :06:34.it. There is almost a two tier system in Ulster now with the top

:06:35. > :06:45.three teams, Thai room, Monaghan and Donegal. -- Tyrone, Monaghan and

:06:46. > :06:49.Donegal. We didn't expect a huge amount from the two games last week.

:06:50. > :06:53.They were competitive up until half-time and then that bit more

:06:54. > :06:58.quality. The efficiency of those better teams when they go forward,

:06:59. > :07:01.and the opportunities they take and the right options they take, and we

:07:02. > :07:04.consistently see it with the teams plying their trade in divisions two

:07:05. > :07:13.and three and four who get themselves into a

:07:14. > :07:14.and three and four who get to win the game, and they are not

:07:15. > :07:17.able to do it because they haven't been playing at the top level.

:07:18. > :07:21.Tyrone under pressure every week when they play in the league. You

:07:22. > :07:25.can see that. They can take the right options more times than not.

:07:26. > :07:29.Let me develop that point. You have a player, the likes of Chrissy

:07:30. > :07:33.McKaigue out there, who if you were handing out plaudits for Player of

:07:34. > :07:37.the Year at club level, you would be in that conversation, he can

:07:38. > :07:43.dominate right throughout, but how can he be peripheral in a match like

:07:44. > :07:47.this? It's a totally different game. He dominates in club football when

:07:48. > :07:54.he has a chance to push forward and kick scores. His club team have a

:07:55. > :08:00.system, but Derry today don't have one. They haven't had much time to

:08:01. > :08:04.work with what they are doing. But Chrissy has been a peripheral figure

:08:05. > :08:15.today. I wanted to reveal our mystery player. Oisin McConville

:08:16. > :08:20.seems to know who it is. There is the John Deere, and there is Down's

:08:21. > :08:27.Brendan McArdle looking rather resplendent. Willie Quinn was the

:08:28. > :08:33.first person to get it right. They credit to you. I think the teams are

:08:34. > :08:37.coming out. You predicted ten points in the newspaper for Tyrone. Are you

:08:38. > :08:41.sticking with that? It could even be more. Derry could bring something

:08:42. > :08:47.different in this second half, and they need to. Let's go back to

:08:48. > :08:52.Martin McCue and Thomas Niblock in commentary. COMMENTATOR: There is

:08:53. > :08:55.Mickey Harte, his 15th year as the Championship, senior Championship

:08:56. > :09:05.for Tyrone. Sean Cavanagh has worn the white and red shirt more than

:09:06. > :09:09.any other player. What Dugarry have to do, in a nutshell? If there's one

:09:10. > :09:14.thing that they could improve upon to make a difference, what is it? We

:09:15. > :09:18.always said the third quarter is a winning quarter. It's an important

:09:19. > :09:25.one for them. They need to win the throw and get the ball through.

:09:26. > :09:28.Kieran McGeary being taken. He wasn't injured, he picked up a

:09:29. > :09:33.yellow card in the first half. Mickey Harte has made that decision

:09:34. > :09:37.to pull him because he was working on a hard-working midfield. Mark

:09:38. > :09:41.Bradley walking to the Derry goalkeeper, knocking him to the

:09:42. > :09:46.ground to put some pressure on. Certainly packed a punch in the

:09:47. > :09:51.first half. One substitution in the Tyrone team with Ronan McNabb,

:09:52. > :09:56.number 22, coming on. Conor Meyler has gone off. We're off and running

:09:57. > :10:00.in the second half. The ball into the field of play and straightaway

:10:01. > :10:09.Tyrone and Niall Sludden win the ball and the break. The referee says

:10:10. > :10:13.Noel arm was dragging him down. Martin McCue, here's what happened.

:10:14. > :10:17.What did you make of it? Not a lot to it, just getting to know each

:10:18. > :10:28.other. Giving the big and a push and going to ground. We have seen a lot

:10:29. > :10:35.worse than that. Definitely in the past in Ulster Championship matches.

:10:36. > :10:38.Padraig Hampsey, a former Ulster championship boxer. Maybe he can

:10:39. > :10:47.bring some fight. A moment of perfection. Derry coming away on the

:10:48. > :10:54.counterattack. Niall Keenan attacking up the field. Still going.

:10:55. > :11:00.Enda Lynn passes to Ciaran McFaul. Niall Keenan looking for help. A bit

:11:01. > :11:09.of space. Brilliant play from the quarterback. He is an accomplished

:11:10. > :11:12.footballer. The Kasold Dawson man is marking one. The field and also

:11:13. > :11:19.doing well at the front. Brilliant play. He was given the job to mark

:11:20. > :11:25.Mark Bradley. Nick Williams the sweeper dropped back on Mark Bradley

:11:26. > :11:32.to cover him. It's lovely to see a cornerback doing so well. That's

:11:33. > :11:37.what Derry need to do. Fantastic young footballer, Niall Keenan. Had

:11:38. > :11:44.a chemical engineering exam this week. He's at Queens University. He

:11:45. > :11:49.is a decent footballer. The past moving outside to Sean Cavanagh. He

:11:50. > :11:53.can do a dummy very easily. Going backwards at the same time. McCann

:11:54. > :11:58.has already scored one, will he go for another. He goes the other way

:11:59. > :12:03.and passes it back. Niall Sludden goes one way, then the other.

:12:04. > :12:13.McAtamney keeping a close eye on him. Kicked backwards to Colin

:12:14. > :12:22.Kavanagh. -- Colm Cavanagh. And now Sean Cavanagh with loads of room.

:12:23. > :12:26.It's over the bar. We talk about this long-range kick in. It's very

:12:27. > :12:31.hard for Brendan Rogers to do anything with it. That's leadership.

:12:32. > :12:35.What a score when they were just knocking the ball around. He kicks

:12:36. > :12:40.his first point from play today. His first point from play but his sixth

:12:41. > :12:45.in toto. Sean Cavanagh hitting more than 50% of Tyrone's scores. Not bad

:12:46. > :12:55.for a man who will retire at the end of the season. Barry Heron charging

:12:56. > :12:59.forward. Barry Heron trying to give it inside to Enda Lynn who finds

:13:00. > :13:04.some space. He goes for the point instead of the goal. In any other

:13:05. > :13:07.circumstance you would say it's the right choice, but when you are

:13:08. > :13:12.losing to the level Derry are at the minutes, should he have to goal? It

:13:13. > :13:18.should have passed to Niall Loughlin to his left. Maybe taken the ball

:13:19. > :13:24.back. Niall Loughlin coming into the picture there. If you get that goal

:13:25. > :13:35.chance, and Enda Lynn has been Derry's best player.

:13:36. > :13:42.Ronan McNamee kicks back inside to Bradley. Bradley doesn't need all

:13:43. > :13:48.that space to be affected, but he hits wide. His right isn't as good

:13:49. > :13:55.as his left. It will be a goal kick, taken quickly, and Derry come out of

:13:56. > :14:02.their own 45 metre line. Brendan Rogers, his attacking capabilities

:14:03. > :14:09.have been restricted. Trying to march on Cavanagh. Heavron is

:14:10. > :14:15.chopped down from behind. Did well to win a free. I just think they

:14:16. > :14:22.should, Danny Heavron, whoever takes it, should kick with the left foot

:14:23. > :14:27.and take it out of his hands. The shoulder from Conor McAtamney. The

:14:28. > :14:32.run forward from Niall Keenan has definitely lifted Derry. Kick this

:14:33. > :14:39.ball over the bar and it's back to a 3-point game. A free for Derry taken

:14:40. > :14:54.off the ground with Benny Heron. 26 years of age. He missed one in the

:14:55. > :15:00.first. This is easier, close to goal, kicked left footed and a good

:15:01. > :15:04.score. Derry 8-11 Tyrone. They have outscored Tyrone 3-1 since

:15:05. > :15:09.half-time. See the way they have pushed up on the kickouts. We talked

:15:10. > :15:12.about it. They haven't given Tyrone Short kickouts, they make them go

:15:13. > :15:23.long, and that's a good tactical move. The referee has stopped play

:15:24. > :15:31.and is taking a note of someone. If in doubt, book them both, that's

:15:32. > :15:37.what normally happens. Cavanagh and McGuckin, a yellow card each.

:15:38. > :15:43.Cavanagh was trying to split the midfielders. McGuckin saying he

:15:44. > :15:52.wasn't allowing it. The ball kicked away out to that side. Conal McCann

:15:53. > :15:57.on his Championship debut, having a massive impact on the game. If Conal

:15:58. > :16:02.McCann isn't having a game we expecting to have, they need him in

:16:03. > :16:14.midfield. The on road in Padraig Hampsey. Peter Harte going

:16:15. > :16:19.backwards. Finding Sean Cavanagh. The umpire says it's gone wide.

:16:20. > :16:25.Definitely a better Derry team in this second half. Tyrone will now

:16:26. > :16:37.push upon the kickouts as well. Do you give Short kickouts or make the

:16:38. > :16:43.call to push up. McAtamney wins it. Takes the mark. Tyrone, within

:16:44. > :16:49.seconds, everybody straight back, making it difficult for Derry to

:16:50. > :16:55.find any kind of space. McAtamney. Will he go for the score? It's high

:16:56. > :17:00.and the keeper goes for it, Morgan punches it away. Taking no chances,

:17:01. > :17:05.getting it out of danger. This man causes Derry all sorts of danger,

:17:06. > :17:10.Peter Harte, playing get to Ronan McNabb, and there is Niall Sludden.

:17:11. > :17:13.Finds Bradley with Keane and on his back. Brilliant defending from the

:17:14. > :17:18.Kasold Dawson man. Interceptions like that can give the crowd a real

:17:19. > :17:23.lift. Enda Lynn glides his way into the Tyrone half of the field. He

:17:24. > :17:31.could do with a score. The referee says no file. Morgan wins it outside

:17:32. > :17:36.his box. Delivers the pass. Terrible options for Derry going forward.

:17:37. > :17:41.Hampsey chopped down from behind. Gives it to Peter Harte. Delicate

:17:42. > :17:53.pass to the path of Donnelly. Thought about giving it to McNabb.

:17:54. > :17:56.Chrissy McKaigue. Maybe Donnelly has thrown a punch and Chrissy McKaigue,

:17:57. > :18:03.I don't know what the land is mine has seen below us. -- don't know

:18:04. > :18:09.what the linesman has seen below us. The match referee, you can see in

:18:10. > :18:13.the stadium, he is making some connection with this linesman. He's

:18:14. > :18:18.talking to someone. He has prevented the Derry goalkeeper from hitting

:18:19. > :18:24.the play. Did Mattie Donnelly smack Chrissy McKaigue? Let's look at it.

:18:25. > :18:28.I saw down below me the two of them pushing and banging into each other.

:18:29. > :18:35.He caught Chrissy McKaigue. Can't really see it. He has punched Mattie

:18:36. > :18:40.Donnelly. Mattie Donnelly punched on the left-hand side of your screen.

:18:41. > :18:43.Hard to believe the linesman on this side didn't see it. Lucky for Mattie

:18:44. > :18:51.Donnelly. The referee knew there was something up. Neither umpire saw it.

:18:52. > :19:07.If they don't see it, they can't give it.

:19:08. > :19:17.Padraig Hampsey, the quarterback, going for the

:19:18. > :19:31.. Enda Lynn moving forward at pace. Benny Heron with the outside of the

:19:32. > :19:40.left foot goes for it. Unable to keep it in play. They could be level

:19:41. > :19:47.at this stage. Three terrible options. Corner from McAtamney. Here

:19:48. > :19:56.is the chance again. Mattie Donnelly punches and swipes back. It happened

:19:57. > :20:00.right down below us. It's not like Mattie Donnelly, he's not that type

:20:01. > :20:05.of player. It's a great battle out on a field between the two of them.

:20:06. > :20:12.Brendan Rogers does well. Running out of options. He goes by Burns.

:20:13. > :20:16.Still going. He's the full-back. Dispossessed, but the referee blows

:20:17. > :20:23.the whistle. He was lucky to get the free. Derry are really on top now,

:20:24. > :20:29.but they need to take the right option. They said in the studio at

:20:30. > :20:33.half-time, pick the right option and get the right people on the ball.

:20:34. > :20:38.They took the right options by kicking the ball when they should

:20:39. > :20:41.have laid it off. The free kick is taken 30 yards backwards, such is

:20:42. > :20:47.the methods of modern-day football. McAtamney gives it to Ryan Bell. The

:20:48. > :20:58.players look at one another and it goes wide. That is the fourth in a

:20:59. > :21:03.row. Just taking the wrong option. Tyrone could go up the field and

:21:04. > :21:09.score a point. Derry hitting eight wides but Tyrone have picked one

:21:10. > :21:17.more, on nine. McNabb sliding his way forward. The referee says getup.

:21:18. > :21:24.Passes outside. Frank Burns wins it. Sludden finds him. Chance on the

:21:25. > :21:30.Tyrone goal. Rebound, great save from Keenan. The referee says it's

:21:31. > :21:38.free. A lot of people thought he touched it on the ground. A little

:21:39. > :21:44.bit of pushing and shoving. Ben McKinless was in the middle of it.

:21:45. > :21:49.Has he given a free out for a freak in from the 30 metre line? I think

:21:50. > :21:55.it's from the 45. Remember the goal he scored against Dublin? Brilliant

:21:56. > :22:03.save on the line. Did really well. Niall Keenan has been brilliant

:22:04. > :22:06.today as well. If he doesn't fancy himself as a cornerback, he would

:22:07. > :22:12.make a great goalkeeper. Brilliant save. Blocked well by McKinless, but

:22:13. > :22:15.you would have thought he definitely scores from the rebound but

:22:16. > :22:19.straightaway Keenan gets his hand to it. It was bundled over the line,

:22:20. > :22:36.it's a point for Tyrone, but it could have been three. Niall Keenan

:22:37. > :22:41.gets a point at one end. The three in the full-back Lane, that's the

:22:42. > :22:47.way it is. We've had a far better second half, more exciting so far.

:22:48. > :22:54.Free for Tyrone from the 45. Peter Harte looking at the ball. Mark

:22:55. > :22:59.Lynch comes on as substitute. He replaces Ryan Bell. For those

:23:00. > :23:03.thinking why Mark Lynch isn't playing, he picked up an injury and

:23:04. > :23:09.was struggling to be fit. Damian Barton has made the decision that he

:23:10. > :23:14.is 20 minutes in and a big boost for Derry. A big boost to have him. We

:23:15. > :23:21.know how good he is at taking the ball at pace and running at people.

:23:22. > :23:28.Get the ball to Enda Lynn and run at people and Ciaran McFaul. Getting a

:23:29. > :23:34.wee bit overconfident, the wrong players were taking responsibility.

:23:35. > :23:39.Peter Harte going for the score and it's over the crossbar. You have to

:23:40. > :23:43.admire his bottle. He's probably guilty of missing two frees a month.

:23:44. > :23:47.But he still has the mental capability to take that and hit 45.

:23:48. > :23:52.That's a brilliant point at this stage. Tyrone needed somebody to

:23:53. > :23:57.step up and that was a brilliant kick. That score pressing the pause

:23:58. > :24:06.button on Derry. Four points is again the margin. McAtamney. They

:24:07. > :24:11.wind is in their sales. The best position in the game just after

:24:12. > :24:17.half-time. Emmett McGuckin goes between three Tyrone players. The

:24:18. > :24:23.referee says no free. Tyrone come away with it. There are no Tyrone

:24:24. > :24:26.players inside the Derry 45. But there is one now with Frank Burns

:24:27. > :24:34.trying to make it. Good tackle, but the referee says the second one was

:24:35. > :24:40.illegal. Free for Tyrone. We can see the ankle of Ryan Bell, looking in a

:24:41. > :24:45.fair degree of discomfort. Loughlin is the man giving away the free.

:24:46. > :24:50.Let's look at it again. Is that a free? Going to ground, was holding

:24:51. > :24:55.him down on the ground, holding Frank Burns down on the ground. We

:24:56. > :25:00.have a lot of forwards. We talk about getting your hands in. On the

:25:01. > :25:03.ground, keep your body over them, and keep your hands in to make the

:25:04. > :25:10.tackle. Sean Kavanagh kicked a point from play from further out. Sean

:25:11. > :25:18.Cavanagh going for another score. Then is it in to perfection. When

:25:19. > :25:23.you're in trouble you call on Peter Harte and Sean Kavanagh, and that's

:25:24. > :25:26.exactly what has happened. Five points between the teams. Another

:25:27. > :25:37.Tyrone substitute coming on. McCurry. The kick out is straight

:25:38. > :25:42.into the crowd. Just those couple of minutes, the gold chance. The Sean

:25:43. > :25:44.Kavanagh points just those few minutes of dominance and Tyrone

:25:45. > :25:50.effectively killed off the competition. Players are taking the

:25:51. > :25:51.wrong option. You have to work the 1-2. Doesn't matter who gets the

:25:52. > :26:13.score. Don Poli taken off and on. Darren McCurry with the score. His

:26:14. > :26:27.first touch results in a point. Six points is the margin. Looks like

:26:28. > :26:36.it's all over. We are at a stage where discipline is important in the

:26:37. > :26:39.match. Vines McKaigue. People saying he was inside the 21 so it should be

:26:40. > :26:46.free, but that's not the rule any more.

:26:47. > :26:54.Danny Tallon, he has been relatively quiet on his Championship debut.

:26:55. > :26:59.Does well to pick out Ciaran McFaul. Four Tyrone players surrounding him,

:27:00. > :27:04.a blizzard of white jerseys. Mattie Donnelly picks up the pieces and

:27:05. > :27:09.Tyrone built from the back again. Sludden is tackled. Looking for

:27:10. > :27:14.somebody ahead of him. There is nobody. Frank Burns finds Sean

:27:15. > :27:21.Cavanagh, and Cavanagh thought about the dummy. Breezes past Enda Lynn.

:27:22. > :27:32.Tackled by three Derry players. The referee says the getup. Derry are

:27:33. > :27:38.perhaps fortunate. Danny Tallon, 21 years of age. Great excitement

:27:39. > :27:43.within a county of his talents and perhaps where he can go in the red

:27:44. > :27:49.and white jersey. Mark Lynch trying to take on his man. Lynch goes for

:27:50. > :27:50.the shot and snaps. Bounces in front of the goalkeeper. Tyrone possession

:27:51. > :28:10.yet again. Another Tyrone player, another

:28:11. > :28:14.substitute, Ronan McNabb. Darren McCurry, another substitute. Tyrone

:28:15. > :28:19.really showing the armoury they have. Fantastic substitutes bench.

:28:20. > :28:24.Most players perhaps starting for other counties. Frank Burns gives it

:28:25. > :28:32.away. Does well to win it back. Good tackling from Niall Keenan again.

:28:33. > :28:41.Keenan is down. He's one of a number of U21 players. Derry made the

:28:42. > :28:46.Ulster U21 final this year. Ben McKinless, Conor McGrogan, a lot of

:28:47. > :28:57.young talent coming through at Derry. Frank Burns, the substitute

:28:58. > :29:04.has been black carded. Tyrone reshuffling. We will see who comes

:29:05. > :29:13.on. Frank Burns goes down for it. Tackle from McKaigue. We saw it last

:29:14. > :29:18.week. And we have seen it again today, just a bit of temptation

:29:19. > :29:21.proving too difficult to say no. Automatic reaction to do that,

:29:22. > :29:31.Thomas, but the thing with the black card, it's OK for these teams to

:29:32. > :29:36.pick up black cards, but for the small teams, it's more of a problem.

:29:37. > :29:43.The referee says no, he dived. He's blown the whistle. Niall Loughlin is

:29:44. > :29:48.saying, surely that's a free in. The referee signalling it's a dive.

:29:49. > :29:58.Let's look again. Loughlin going for it. I think Ronan McNabb going for

:29:59. > :30:10.the ball, but he seemed to grab the foot of Niall Loughlin.

:30:11. > :30:18.We will follow the play. Damian Barton will be extremely frustrated

:30:19. > :30:29.with that. It has happened too often today. Five or six players around

:30:30. > :30:44.the player. It is like the old Tyrone. David Mulgrew comes on for

:30:45. > :30:52.Tyrone. One of the Tyrone players down. Let's look at it again.

:30:53. > :31:00.Tackled from behind, Ronan McNamee. McNamee goes down holding his face.

:31:01. > :31:03.There is the tackle from Mark Lynch. You can just see his last tackle did

:31:04. > :31:12.connect with the head of Ronan McNamee. It is a free to Derry.

:31:13. > :31:28.Derry need this score. They haven't scored in 15 minutes. The players

:31:29. > :31:35.have taken the wrong option. Derry needed to work on their tackling.

:31:36. > :31:45.Shane McGuigan comes on wearing number 18. He replaces Danny talent.

:31:46. > :31:59.Free taken quickly. Derry in possession. Hereford takes a cold

:32:00. > :32:04.tap. -- Heavron. It is so difficult for Derry to make any kind of space.

:32:05. > :32:11.Perhaps fortunate to get that free. They were. The referees are on about

:32:12. > :32:19.diving. That is a decision that has been made in Croke Park that players

:32:20. > :32:27.are diving. He put up his hands for diving. This was an area incident.

:32:28. > :32:31.Teams need to be ready for that. They have made that decision this

:32:32. > :32:41.year that they would be very strict on that. Making a call if the player

:32:42. > :32:48.dives. A chance to narrow the gap. Left footed. He snatches at it. And

:32:49. > :32:54.it goes wide. And people talk about Gaelic football, how much it has

:32:55. > :32:58.moved on. How fit and skilled the players are. You wouldn't have seen

:32:59. > :33:04.that in the 90s, the free taking from both teams. The difference

:33:05. > :33:11.today is they don't have much practice. You had a free taker back

:33:12. > :33:19.in the 90s to practised every day of the week. Tyrone running at the

:33:20. > :33:37.Derry duck defence. -- Derry. David Mulgrew.

:33:38. > :33:48.Danny Heavron moving inside. Tackled from behind. No free. Again a Derry

:33:49. > :33:53.player is stripped of the ball. Tyrone to their credit have made it

:33:54. > :34:00.remarkably difficult for Derry. The minute a player -- the first player

:34:01. > :34:13.doesn't get the pond, the second one does. When Derry showed some danger,

:34:14. > :34:18.they improved their performance. David Mulgrew kicked the last point.

:34:19. > :34:26.There is another sob. That is what you need. -- substitute.

:34:27. > :34:48.Chrissy McKaigue. Enda Lynn trying to take on his man. It's the post.

:34:49. > :34:51.It goes wide. -- it hit the post. Whatever atmosphere there was at the

:34:52. > :34:56.beginning of the second half has been pretty much extinguished. It is

:34:57. > :35:01.an 8-point game. The game is pretty much over. They had that chance.

:35:02. > :35:04.When you get the chance, you have to take it. Free taking is becoming

:35:05. > :35:13.massive. We look at Dublin and Kerry. Dean Rock came in and made

:35:14. > :35:22.the difference. They play him all the time because his free kicks are

:35:23. > :35:27.so important. Derry's full-forward line has scored between them one

:35:28. > :35:39.point. And that came from a free kick. That tells its own story. The

:35:40. > :35:44.referee says that was a foul. He has played in every league game. We have

:35:45. > :35:51.another Tyrone substitution. Declan McKenna on. His arrival is imminent.

:35:52. > :35:58.In the meantime there is going to be a Derry free kick. Mickey Harte's

:35:59. > :36:01.50th championship year. At the start of every season he does believe that

:36:02. > :36:08.Tyrone can go and win the all Ireland. This is his 26 year

:36:09. > :36:14.managing Tyrone teams. A quarter of a century. It is unbelievable to

:36:15. > :36:22.have that energy, hunger, which is the big word. With most managers,

:36:23. > :36:29.the hunger grows. Look at him. What Tyrone football means to him. What

:36:30. > :36:32.he has given to Tyrone football. Sometimes you don't realise how good

:36:33. > :36:46.a man is until he is gone away. And then you realise it. The mistakes he

:36:47. > :36:59.made. The ball and over the bar. Eight different Tyrone scorers. That

:37:00. > :37:09.is what you need. Tyrone on the break. Six handpass is in 15

:37:10. > :37:12.seconds. Over the bar it goes. People I've talked about Tiernan

:37:13. > :37:16.McCann and everything he does. But his brother, he didn't play much of

:37:17. > :37:22.the league. People were surprised he was starting. People didn't think he

:37:23. > :37:29.would start. But he has certainly made an impact. A dream debut.

:37:30. > :37:37.Brilliant debut. He has shown his ability to play at this level. He

:37:38. > :37:45.has got the temperament. Mark Lynch went for the shot. Dropped short.

:37:46. > :37:54.Nine points to 17. Tyrone on the attack.

:37:55. > :38:05.Colm Kavanagh switched play. Mattie Donnelly... The fist pump suggests

:38:06. > :38:12.it is good. It is good. Declan McClure gets his score. Double

:38:13. > :38:20.substitution for Derry. Yeah. Just giving fellows games now at this

:38:21. > :38:39.stage. Ehmer deadlock and going off. -- Emmett McGuckin. Couple of

:38:40. > :38:52.changes for Derry. Michael McEvoy came on. Sean Cavanagh, as you may

:38:53. > :38:58.have noticed, has been taken off. The chants of another score. The

:38:59. > :39:04.goalkeeper did very well. He made contact with the ball on the

:39:05. > :39:14.crossbar. Derry, away with it. Very quiet in Celtic Park. Gavin O'Neill

:39:15. > :39:19.skipping down the left-hand side. Derry picks up the pieces.

:39:20. > :39:28.McWilliams is filed. It will be a free kick to Derry. Other than the

:39:29. > :39:33.week period we had at the beginning of the second half, it has been a

:39:34. > :39:37.disappointing match. And it has been a disappointing start to the Ulster

:39:38. > :39:47.championship. Three games and the margins of victory in double digits.

:39:48. > :39:52.There is a gap in Ulster at the minute. Hopefully we will see

:39:53. > :39:57.something next Sunday in Armagh. Next Sunday may be the start of the

:39:58. > :40:01.Ulster championship for real. Tyrone have never beaten Derry three times

:40:02. > :40:05.in a rowing championship football. You get the feeling with players

:40:06. > :40:15.like that to come off the bench, they would do today. Darryl Macari

:40:16. > :40:24.with his third point. I think it is the orange boots making the

:40:25. > :40:30.difference. Three great scores. In the Monaghan and Fermanagh macro

:40:31. > :40:32.game Owen Duffy kicked three points off the bench. It is important to

:40:33. > :40:49.have a squad. Tyrone so good at gobbling up the

:40:50. > :40:56.Derry jerseys. Tyrone just too good. Look at that for a pass. Peter

:40:57. > :41:10.Harte. Nobody saw him coming. The angle is acute. That was to acute.

:41:11. > :41:14.Niall Keenan for Derry. He has been the Derry player that has kept

:41:15. > :41:26.going. Most counties in Ireland would like to have him. It is

:41:27. > :41:36.disappointed for a proud county with brilliant club football. It will be

:41:37. > :41:43.a free kick. Four minutes of normal time remaining. Ten points between

:41:44. > :41:47.the teams. Tyrone lost their final three games in the league. They will

:41:48. > :42:01.not realistically lose this one today. Tyrone haven't won a game

:42:02. > :42:06.away from home this year. Damian Barton has seen and done it. Played

:42:07. > :42:11.in the 1993 team that won the all Ireland. You would have played him

:42:12. > :42:18.many times. Defeats like this will hurt. They have two. When he was

:42:19. > :42:22.playing against Tyrone he was really up for that match. Just the way

:42:23. > :42:28.things have changed, footballers have changed. It is different now.

:42:29. > :42:33.Damien is bobbing in a big effort. People will tell you how good a club

:42:34. > :42:46.manager he was. When players are not available, it is not easy on the

:42:47. > :42:50.manager. Colm Kavanagh skips is way away to the full-back line. Tyrone

:42:51. > :43:08.are flying. He has the ambition to go from

:43:09. > :43:18.distance. It goes wide. Another substitute for Derry. It is Conor

:43:19. > :43:21.Neven, the Ballon Derry man. Derry's starting team today, every single

:43:22. > :43:32.player is from South Derry. Not one from North Derry. From that point of

:43:33. > :43:37.view it is disappointing. One thing about Derry from when I played

:43:38. > :43:44.against them, the pride is on them to wear the jersey. When I took over

:43:45. > :43:48.Cavan in 1997, sorry, 1995, the first thing I did was ring Miki

:43:49. > :44:00.Maurin and bring him for a challenge game. -- Nicky Morgan. I think it

:44:01. > :44:04.was this Day 24 years ago we had a brilliant game year. The best game

:44:05. > :44:11.of football I have ever watched. It was between Down and Derry. Down won

:44:12. > :44:14.a brilliant game of football. It is disappointing to see where Derry are

:44:15. > :44:22.at. Damian Barton would have been playing that day. Pete McGrath

:44:23. > :44:28.against the late Eamon Coleman. That was my first day working with the

:44:29. > :44:32.BBC. What a game of football. People say about the change of football,

:44:33. > :44:41.but I don't think we will ever see a game like that. The talent on both

:44:42. > :44:45.sides. If we went back to that time, I would say both teams would have

:44:46. > :44:53.ended up meeting in the all Ireland final. To Rome will go through to

:44:54. > :44:57.the Ulster championship semifinal where they have the small matter of

:44:58. > :45:06.meeting Dhoni golf. What a game that should be. Derry go into the

:45:07. > :45:22.qualifiers. -- Donegal. Nine points the deficit. Six points from play

:45:23. > :45:31.Derry scored. It is disappointed. -- disappointing. Work the ball up, get

:45:32. > :45:37.it into the full-forward. It will be a free kick to Tyrone. A chance once

:45:38. > :45:46.again to put double digits between the teams. And you can see many

:45:47. > :45:53.supporters leaving the ground. They have seen enough. Presumably most of

:45:54. > :46:01.them Derry supporters. Alresford Tyrone, maybe their adventure is

:46:02. > :46:05.only starting. -- as for Tyrone. For people who don't know who he is, he

:46:06. > :46:09.has scored three goals and 14 points for his club against Strabane this

:46:10. > :46:24.year. If he was furred Derry, he

:46:25. > :46:36.definitely wouldn't be on the bench! -- for Derry. Gavin O'Neill... That

:46:37. > :46:44.was an ambitious shot. Mark Lynch throws it back. Frustration. It just

:46:45. > :46:51.wasn't into the hands of McFall. To roam pic up the pieces. Mattie

:46:52. > :46:56.Donnelly... Rory Brennan. He goes one way, then another. Almost

:46:57. > :47:15.teasing. Tiernan McCann... Ronan McNamee.

:47:16. > :47:26.Send us your thoughts and opinions. What have you made of Derry? What

:47:27. > :47:38.have you made of Tyrone? Do send in your comments. Let us know what you

:47:39. > :47:47.think. Derry on the attack. Enda Lynn skipping his way through. It

:47:48. > :47:55.just wasn't what he tried to do. From a Derry point of view, players

:47:56. > :48:04.not available, say they won't give the commitment. It is everyday. It

:48:05. > :48:18.is full-time. Other teams are prepared to do it. Another score.

:48:19. > :48:25.Brennan is a man people are talking about in Tyrone. He scored 3-14 in

:48:26. > :48:34.one match for his club. Many thought he would start today. That sums it

:48:35. > :48:43.up. He kicked the other point with his left foot. You need the two

:48:44. > :48:54.feed. It makes a difference when you are under pressure. That was white.

:48:55. > :49:00.It is great for Mickey Harte to have the luxury of taking those players

:49:01. > :49:13.off. The big plus today is: McCann in the middle of the field. -- Colm

:49:14. > :49:22.Kavanagh. That is a big plus for Tyrone. 22 points they have scored.

:49:23. > :49:27.Derry very disappointed. Niall Keenan is a big player for the

:49:28. > :49:35.future. Handshakes from the managers. Mickey Harte's season only

:49:36. > :49:40.just beginning. Derry within a kick of the ball of making the

:49:41. > :49:44.quarterfinals last year. As for Mickey Harte, defending the Ulster

:49:45. > :49:51.championship. He is over the first hurdle. Tyrone into the semifinal.

:49:52. > :50:03.They will play Donegal. Alresford Derry, it is the qualifiers.

:50:04. > :50:14.Martin McCue, just briefly. What have you made of it all are Derry

:50:15. > :50:16.took the wrong options at the start of the second half. To Rome knew

:50:17. > :50:29.they were under pressure. They hoped the anti-. -- Tyrone. Great

:50:30. > :50:35.performance all round. Disappointing from Derry. There is no point in

:50:36. > :50:39.blaming anybody. The players are doing their best. It is to everybody

:50:40. > :50:44.in Derry to take a look at it. Derry teams never lie down. Looking good

:50:45. > :50:57.for Tyrone going forward. Martin, thank you. Tyrone in the semifinal.

:50:58. > :51:05.Derry go to the qualifiers. Thank you very much. Liam Skelly has

:51:06. > :51:16.been in touch. He says, a walkover. Tyrone and then the goal still in

:51:17. > :51:18.first gear. Let's go pitch side. Colum McCann, congratulations. Oh

:51:19. > :51:25.please where you with your performance? I was relatively

:51:26. > :51:28.pleased. Maybe didn't do a few things 100% right. But I'm pretty

:51:29. > :51:33.impressed with how I played. I'm just happy for the team. It is a

:51:34. > :51:39.selfless game and I'm happy for that. Double scores. How would you

:51:40. > :51:47.assess the performance overall? There are plenty of things to work

:51:48. > :51:54.on. Maybe shot selection. I think we had 16 chances in the first-half and

:51:55. > :51:58.scored ten. A few things to on. Scoring 20 points is a decent

:51:59. > :52:02.turnout. We are happy to get into the next round. Tyrone were cruising

:52:03. > :52:09.in the first-half and Derry seemed to get better. How important was it

:52:10. > :52:16.to keep your composure? Every team has their purple patch, I suppose.

:52:17. > :52:21.We came out of the box of flying. Derry came back into it. At

:52:22. > :52:25.half-time we just said, keep getting the points and we will stay ahead of

:52:26. > :52:33.them. They're coming back into it in the first half. It is important to

:52:34. > :52:43.nip that in the bud. What did Mickey Harte say to you? It is hard to know

:52:44. > :52:48.what he said, to be honest. I can't remember. I have been on the panel

:52:49. > :52:54.for three years. I probably did not play as much as I wanted to. I have

:52:55. > :53:02.kept on. He showed his faith in me by picking me. Hopefully he will the

:53:03. > :53:07.next day as well. Thank you. I know there were honourable

:53:08. > :53:15.mentions for Niall Sludden and Colm Kavanagh. Ultimately you have opted

:53:16. > :53:17.for Conall McCann. He has been threatening to break into the

:53:18. > :53:22.Toronto for a number of years. On the back of what he has done at club

:53:23. > :53:25.level, he has been able to take that momentum into the league and into

:53:26. > :53:29.the championship. Essentially this is what he will be judged on. How he

:53:30. > :53:34.does in championship football. Today he was excellent in every facet of

:53:35. > :53:40.the game. He kicked their point of his right and his left. He wasn't

:53:41. > :53:46.afraid to demand the ball. He was a great link between defence and

:53:47. > :53:52.attack. He kicked two nice points on the day as well. Mickey Harte throws

:53:53. > :53:59.him in and he performs. You see the strength of the panel. They kicked

:54:00. > :54:04.seven points off the bench today. That is something Derry didn't have.

:54:05. > :54:10.Paddy was lamenting the first-half. Derry did come out and have a go.

:54:11. > :54:15.They did. We thought it was game on. I suppose they thought, they got to

:54:16. > :54:28.a point where they thought, let's lifted a little bit. Cornerback with

:54:29. > :54:33.a dummy solo, tapping the ball over the bar. Niall Keenan. We don't see

:54:34. > :54:37.that too often. I discourage all cornerbacks from attempting this

:54:38. > :54:42.ever again but you have to give him credit.

:54:43. > :54:47.You would probably say he was their best player on the day. In the

:54:48. > :54:57.second happy was exceptional. That was the Enda Lynn chance. I goal

:54:58. > :55:01.even at that stage, if they were going to get themselves back into

:55:02. > :55:07.the game, that is what they needed. They had another chance after that.

:55:08. > :55:10.That would have made things interesting. We had a pretty

:55:11. > :55:15.forensic look at the referee at half-time. But the Mattie Donnelly

:55:16. > :55:20.incident with Chrissy McKaigue. It struck me that Martin McNally was

:55:21. > :55:27.perfectly positioned. Should it have been a red card?

:55:28. > :55:31.Martin McNally looked as if he was looking straight at the incident. It

:55:32. > :55:38.is clear that Mattie Donnelly strikes Justin MacCaig. If that is

:55:39. > :55:42.the case... The linesman's eyes are on it and he says nothing. The

:55:43. > :55:48.referee has to rely on him as his witness, no? Sometimes the big teams

:55:49. > :55:54.get the benefit of the call. I think there is some bad blood between the

:55:55. > :56:00.two from last year. Chrissy McKaigue was sent off last year. Doesn't

:56:01. > :56:05.matter whether you're frightened to make the calls. Rules are rules.

:56:06. > :56:12.Against bigger players, sometimes they get the benefit of the doubt.

:56:13. > :56:18.That is something the committee may have a look at. It wasn't dealt with

:56:19. > :56:21.on the day. Us looking at the pictures, can you conclusively say

:56:22. > :56:29.it was a point in the mouth? It is a difficult one. -- punch. If Tyrone

:56:30. > :56:35.defender that, they would be able to get off. From what we saw it was a

:56:36. > :56:42.clear enough strike. At that stage Derry were in the game. We're good

:56:43. > :56:45.to hear from Mickey Harte. Congratulations. Into the

:56:46. > :56:52.semifinals. What were the most pleasing aspect? I suppose the fact

:56:53. > :56:56.we hit our targets in terms of the schools we wanted to get in each

:56:57. > :57:00.half. We managed that. We had to weather the storm at the start of

:57:01. > :57:06.the second half and hung in there until we got control of the game

:57:07. > :57:12.again. The fact you get 21 points is pleasing. Did you expect Derry at

:57:13. > :57:19.half-time to increase things in the second-half? Yeah, every team gets

:57:20. > :57:25.their purple patch. That was their time to grab back some of this game.

:57:26. > :57:29.At half-time we had a 5-point lead. As long as the half went on and we

:57:30. > :57:33.kept that gap, they were getting less time to rectify the situation.

:57:34. > :57:39.I suppose they would -- they were going to give it their best shot at

:57:40. > :57:46.that stage. We were in a position to tag off a few points ourselves. How

:57:47. > :57:50.important was composure? Obviously, we have experienced players on the

:57:51. > :57:54.field. A lot of them have been around. They have a lot of

:57:55. > :57:58.championship experience. They can deal with days like this. That is

:57:59. > :58:06.always good. And of course you still have Sean Cavanagh up front. He has

:58:07. > :58:10.lots of experience. You are probably better qualified than anybody to

:58:11. > :58:15.speak about the Ulster championship. We had an interview with you in the

:58:16. > :58:20.build-up to the game and you offered a very passionate defence of Ulster

:58:21. > :58:27.Gaelic football and the modern game. Is there a gap emerging in Ulster? I

:58:28. > :58:31.don't know. People tend to say that. Nothing ever stays the same. Some

:58:32. > :58:39.teams come a little bit and maybe regress a little bit. I suppose

:58:40. > :58:42.teams get to the top in Ulster. People are talking about Tyrone,

:58:43. > :58:48.Monaghan, Donegal. That is the fact of the matter. I do know that on any

:58:49. > :58:53.other day you have to be on your toes or you could be beaten by teams

:58:54. > :58:55.outside of those three. Yes, it is still very competitive. I know some

:58:56. > :59:02.of the early games have not been as competitive. But there are more

:59:03. > :59:07.challenges within our province than any other. The bench is becoming

:59:08. > :59:13.important. Owen Duffy winning man of the match from Monaghan. The quality

:59:14. > :59:18.Donegal brought on last week. And the impact your substitutes made

:59:19. > :59:24.today. Yeah, we always talk about this now. It is not a 15 man game

:59:25. > :59:27.any more. You need energy to play at this level. There are very few

:59:28. > :59:33.people who can give you a can of energy for 70 to 75 minutes. You

:59:34. > :59:40.need people coming off the bench. Not because they're not as good as

:59:41. > :59:44.the players who have started. They come in with a lot of energy and

:59:45. > :59:48.maybe the opposition have been a little bit spent after 50, 55

:59:49. > :59:53.minutes. They have a great opportunity to give it their best.

:59:54. > :59:56.That is the nature of the game. And to have people who come in and make

:59:57. > :00:05.an impact, that is what makes a good squad. Is there an argument to say

:00:06. > :00:09.it is almost more important the team finishes the game? People speak like

:00:10. > :00:13.that nowadays, of course. That is true. But you don't hold people back

:00:14. > :00:17.from starting on a team just because you want to have them to the end.

:00:18. > :00:20.You want to have enough players who can go in and you know that they

:00:21. > :00:28.will be as effective as those who have started. They have energy.

:00:29. > :00:32.Energy surplus. They can be an added value. Donegal against Tyrone will

:00:33. > :00:38.be fascinating for the neutral. How much do you relish it? I'm relishing

:00:39. > :00:41.the fact we are in the semifinal. We are going to have to meet a good

:00:42. > :00:45.team in the semifinal. We have had a lot of good battles in recent years.

:00:46. > :00:49.Until last year they had the upper hand. I they will want to get the

:00:50. > :00:54.upper hand back. We have to do our best. Thank you.

:00:55. > :00:59.STUDIO: We will broaden the discussion around the state of the

:01:00. > :01:04.game in a moment and talk about the Tyrone bench. Oisin McConville, you

:01:05. > :01:10.had a great view of the potential you thought might have been a

:01:11. > :01:12.penalty claim, Niall Keenan doing brilliantly, and the keeper

:01:13. > :01:19.McKinless. I'm still convinced it was a penalty. I believe he handled

:01:20. > :01:27.the ball at that stage. It was a chance that Aidan McCrory again, the

:01:28. > :01:31.cornerback. How many times do you see McCrory in that position? He has

:01:32. > :01:36.scored important goals for Tyrone in the last couple of years stubbly I

:01:37. > :01:44.don't get a penalty, I think it's great defending. Keenan, give him

:01:45. > :01:50.the benefit of doubt, don't give up. Thomas hinted at the strength of

:01:51. > :01:55.depth Tyrone have an Derry don't have it. Tyrone had 11 different

:01:56. > :01:58.scorers today. We talk about the lack of a marquee forward. Tyrone

:01:59. > :02:02.are still lacking in that department but they make up for it in many

:02:03. > :02:08.other ways. The attack was so decisive and the transition from the

:02:09. > :02:12.halfback line and the full-back line to the full forward line, so many

:02:13. > :02:19.different players getting on the end of moves. The bench was phenomenal.

:02:20. > :02:25.They had seven points off the bench. Before we look at the impact on the

:02:26. > :02:30.Tyrone bench, the black card for the Frank Burns trip. You both think the

:02:31. > :02:36.referee got it right. By the letter of the law it's right, but it's

:02:37. > :02:41.still pretty soft. If the black card is there and we are implement in it

:02:42. > :02:47.then by the rules it's a black card. The enough decision. It might be

:02:48. > :02:52.revisited. Both of you waxing lyrical about Tyrone's strength in

:02:53. > :02:55.depth on the bench. That was the black card for Frank Burns who had

:02:56. > :03:01.been brought into the game halfway through the first half. The Tyrone

:03:02. > :03:04.bench, you both felt... You could have highlighted half a dozen but

:03:05. > :03:20.these two exemplify what is on the bench. We saw the consistency and

:03:21. > :03:30.brilliance of McCrory today. And Brown scored 3-12 not so long ago.

:03:31. > :03:34.That's the luxury they have. McCrory's first goal, it was a

:03:35. > :03:41.header out of the top drawer. It has to be perfect, and on that occasion

:03:42. > :03:45.it was brilliant. Without disrespecting Antrim or Derry, do

:03:46. > :03:50.you sense both Donegal and Tyrone have been hiding a little, not

:03:51. > :03:53.revealing too much. And they will improve for the semifinal,

:03:54. > :03:57.notwithstanding they both saw off their initial opponents quite come

:03:58. > :04:07.principally stubbly in truth I think Tyrone won that game playing within

:04:08. > :04:14.themselves. -- quite comfortably. In truth I think Tyrone win that game

:04:15. > :04:19.playing within themselves. You could really only say they had one proper

:04:20. > :04:22.goal opportunity today. That's the only difference between this year

:04:23. > :04:27.and lasted. Last year they got three goals. This year, there's nothing

:04:28. > :04:31.wrong with taking 22 points, but against a more organised events like

:04:32. > :04:34.Donegal, if you get behind you have to take goal chances. The one thing

:04:35. > :04:38.they have missing from the game. Donegal have a weight of expectation

:04:39. > :04:42.because both me and you have tipped them for the Ulster championship

:04:43. > :04:51.this year. If they can carry that burden then we are in for a

:04:52. > :04:54.fantastic game and semifinal. I would like to qualify for the record

:04:55. > :04:59.that I know nothing. Dermot has been in touch. Tyrone are streets ahead.

:05:00. > :05:04.Sean McGrillin 's has been in touch, he says, what has happened to my

:05:05. > :05:10.great game of Gaelic football? Let's get the natter and chatter from the

:05:11. > :05:16.terraces. Terrific display from Tyrone. Especially Sean Cavanagh.

:05:17. > :05:25.Tyrone just had better players. They look very organised in defence.

:05:26. > :05:29.Tyrone, the best team in Ulster. Division 3, clear as day stubbly I

:05:30. > :05:36.think we have a lot more to do when we meet Donegal and I think Tyrone

:05:37. > :05:44.were to fit and to good all over the field. To come into the second half,

:05:45. > :05:49.Derry didn't have much to offer. Up Tyrone, the whole way right through

:05:50. > :05:54.Northern Ireland. Come on Tyrone! You have to admire the verve and

:05:55. > :05:59.optimism and wasn't she looking just brilliant in that blush pink top.

:06:00. > :06:01.Another man who probably isn't blushing, but exhausted for 70

:06:02. > :06:09.minutes, the ever youthful and vibrant Sean Cavanagh. Up and

:06:10. > :06:14.running again. Up and running again I suppose. Six or seven weeks since

:06:15. > :06:18.he played down in the last game of the league. Wasn't expecting it to

:06:19. > :06:23.be as easy as it turned out to be. Nice playing conditions. Not a

:06:24. > :06:27.typical Ulster Championship we were anticipating, but it's job done for

:06:28. > :06:30.us. I suspect a night Derry will be disappointed with what they brought

:06:31. > :06:34.to the table. But we have to remember they improved as the season

:06:35. > :06:38.went on last year and will probably take away from doing what Tipperary

:06:39. > :06:43.did. I think they will improve, but we know it will not be like this in

:06:44. > :06:49.a few weeks. What did the Gueye in the first half? I suppose he came

:06:50. > :06:58.here expecting a war. -- what did the game lack in the first half. We

:06:59. > :07:03.probably came here expecting a level of physicality and with is getting

:07:04. > :07:09.the early scores, it took the fizzle out of the game. As the game may be

:07:10. > :07:12.heated up, ten or 15 minutes into the start of the second half, we

:07:13. > :07:17.sprung three or four lads who I wouldn't like to be running after,

:07:18. > :07:25.Mulgrew, Brennan, McCurry, they were able to tackle Mac onto the scores.

:07:26. > :07:33.From our point of view, we wanted to add the scores. We knew... We can't

:07:34. > :07:42.get carried away with this game because the game will not resemble

:07:43. > :07:46.anything like today. We have to move on. A new look Tyrone side, some

:07:47. > :07:53.positional changes with Donnelly in the corner. How impressed are you

:07:54. > :07:57.with McCann wearing your old number nine jersey? People have been

:07:58. > :08:01.accustomed to Tiernan in the last couple of years, who has been

:08:02. > :08:06.playing that drastic stuff with the County champions. There are a number

:08:07. > :08:11.of guys who had been waiting their chance. Probably more on the bench.

:08:12. > :08:14.We have serious competition in the squad at the moment. Sitting there

:08:15. > :08:20.at the end looking around me, at the likes of McShane and Ronan O'Neill,

:08:21. > :08:24.who were on the pitch a year ago making the difference, and today it

:08:25. > :08:28.was Brennan, McCrory. I suppose we are blessed with the players we have

:08:29. > :08:36.at the moment. It's not always talked about, but we can't control.

:08:37. > :08:40.We were disappointed with how the league turned out for us, but we are

:08:41. > :08:48.quietly confident with the talent we have in the squad. It's going to be

:08:49. > :08:54.good and it will be live on the BBC. As are all the remaining games in

:08:55. > :08:59.the Championship. I promised I would broaden it out. I will remind you

:09:00. > :09:04.what Sean McWilliams said to us. What has happened to the great game

:09:05. > :09:07.of Gaelic football. Are we looking back through the prism of romance

:09:08. > :09:17.and saying it was all great back then, or is the game in a state of

:09:18. > :09:20.turgid torpor? We do look back with roasted glasses sometimes. I played

:09:21. > :09:24.in a lot of very forgetful, I watched a lot of games that were

:09:25. > :09:30.very forgetful. But it has evolved and changed that much that people

:09:31. > :09:33.find it very difficult to accept. Defensive football which is played

:09:34. > :09:39.poorly is the worst thing you can watch for 70 minutes at this level.

:09:40. > :09:41.I think the good teams who play defensive football but can

:09:42. > :09:46.transition quicker than the weaker teams, I think it's quite pleasant

:09:47. > :09:52.to watch, but when you get two evenly matched teams. The best game

:09:53. > :09:58.I've seen in the last few years was with Westmeath at Croke Park. It was

:09:59. > :10:02.a shoot out. Both started out evenly and ran away with it. They were

:10:03. > :10:04.neither of them going to win the all Ireland. We have been looking

:10:05. > :10:09.forward to games in the Ulster challenger. I'm looking forward to

:10:10. > :10:13.next week because both teams are evenly matched. I'm not seeing

:10:14. > :10:17.either of those teams will win the Ulster Championship, but it will be

:10:18. > :10:21.watchable because it's competitive. When it is not competitive like

:10:22. > :10:24.today, it makes it a tough watch. You look at Kerry and Dublin in the

:10:25. > :10:30.league final and you say there is another way. That was a pretty open

:10:31. > :10:34.and riveting game. That was at Croke Park and there is more space there.

:10:35. > :10:42.Kerry play their share of defensive football. Teams like Fermanagh are

:10:43. > :10:46.not up to the level of Tyrone. Today was about fine tuning. They are

:10:47. > :10:51.looking further down the line. It may be hard going to the likes of

:10:52. > :10:54.Dublin, Mayo and Kerry, but defensively they can be vulnerable

:10:55. > :10:57.if they go man against man against those teams. He's trying to find a

:10:58. > :11:04.system and it is his prerogative to do that. The other thing is, Jim

:11:05. > :11:10.McGuinness was positive about what he did with Donegal. He impressed

:11:11. > :11:13.that and they improved. They were a defensive team who were down all

:11:14. > :11:19.going forward. They evolve quickly. It takes one more coach to come in

:11:20. > :11:22.and take a chance. What would be wrong with Derry coming here today

:11:23. > :11:25.and putting pressure on like they did at the start of the second half,

:11:26. > :11:29.putting pressure on the Tyrone kickouts? That's just one thing. The

:11:30. > :11:33.worst thing you see in Gaelic football is when teams give the

:11:34. > :11:37.opposition kickouts. I detest that. I don't understand the reason. I

:11:38. > :11:40.don't mind players and teams dropping back to the defensive

:11:41. > :11:50.system, but to give up the kickout when you can challenge for it and

:11:51. > :11:52.force them to kick to the middle of the field and back your players to

:11:53. > :11:55.win primary possession, then you have a foothold in the game to go

:11:56. > :11:57.forward to express yourself. To give up kickouts like Derry did on many

:11:58. > :12:01.occasions today, when they pushed up they looked a better team. That

:12:02. > :12:04.something Derry have worked on in the league. I think Derry have

:12:05. > :12:09.failed to address their defensive issues of the last few years. Last

:12:10. > :12:13.year they conceded an average of 20 points during a game. Today it was

:12:14. > :12:20.22. They are back covering space but not being effective. To give you a

:12:21. > :12:23.brief update, a worry for Donegal with Michael Murphy apparently

:12:24. > :12:27.limping off in a game today for his club. Let's hope Michael is

:12:28. > :12:39.available for that semifinal. It's live on BBC sport in Northern

:12:40. > :12:44.Ireland. Next like you are looking forward to Armagh and County Down.

:12:45. > :12:48.I'm not saying either of them will win the Championship, but they are

:12:49. > :12:54.evenly matched teams. That's all from Celtic Park. We will be back

:12:55. > :13:03.next week with the game, Down against Armagh. Sunday from 1:50pm.

:13:04. > :13:08.On BBC Two. Tyrone off to bathe in the abundance of their collective

:13:09. > :13:12.brilliance Derry off to bathe their wounds. Speaking of Tyrone's

:13:13. > :13:18.collective brilliance, my thanks to Paddy and Oisin for their collective

:13:19. > :13:22.brilliance. It's goodbye from Celtic Park.
