:00:29. > :00:34.We are at Buckingham Palace Arne Diamond Jubilee weekend, and this
:00:34. > :00:37.is impressive backdrop for four days of pageantry and parting and
:00:37. > :00:41.some of the world's biggest stars are already in town for the concert
:00:41. > :00:45.at the Palace on Monday evening. This is where they will sing for
:00:45. > :00:50.the Queen and thousands of guests, all of them under the watchful eye
:00:50. > :00:54.of the only other British monarch to celebrate 60 years on the throne.
:00:54. > :01:00.The celebrations started back in February, on the anniversary of the
:01:00. > :01:03.Queen's accession in 1952, but today it is the first day of the
:01:03. > :01:07.official Diamond Jubilee weekend. It is a fair bet the Queen is
:01:07. > :01:10.looking forward to the first engagement with more than a little
:01:11. > :01:16.enthusiasm, because she has been attending the Epsom Derby for the
:01:16. > :01:22.past eight decades. She will be there again today. In London, final
:01:22. > :01:26.preparations are under way for this extended weekend. A few hours ago,
:01:26. > :01:29.rehearsals for the concert had to stop while the troops of the
:01:29. > :01:34.Household Division made their way to household -- Joe Horse Guards,
:01:34. > :01:38.because they are preparing for the Jubilee birthday parade in a
:01:38. > :01:41.fortnight's time. So focusing on the days ahead here on BBC One and
:01:41. > :01:51.we will bring you at live, unrivalled coverage of all the
:01:51. > :02:10.
:02:10. > :02:14.That is all to come, but we start the Fun Today at Epsom, where the
:02:14. > :02:17.Queen is about to arrive for the famous Derby, so it is over to
:02:17. > :02:21.Clare Balding to guide us through the afternoon's events. Over to you,
:02:21. > :02:26.Clare. Huw, thank you very much, it is
:02:26. > :02:30.about 60 miles from where you are outside Buckingham Palace to as
:02:30. > :02:34.here on the Epsom Downs, the course that provides the biggest and
:02:34. > :02:37.greatest challenge to any thoroughbred racehorse. It is a
:02:37. > :02:42.grey, overcast day, but there is colour everywhere, and the
:02:42. > :02:46.predominant themes are red, white and blue. This is the flower border
:02:46. > :02:50.outside the royal box, and that is the balcony from which the Queen
:02:50. > :02:55.will watch the 2012 running of the Derby, a race the tai-chi has
:02:55. > :03:00.rarely missed since 1953, the year of her coronation when she came in
:03:00. > :03:03.person to watch Oriel finished second. There are thousands and
:03:03. > :03:07.thousands of people here on the common ground of the Downs, where
:03:07. > :03:11.it is free entry and you can dress up in what you like and enjoy a
:03:11. > :03:16.picnic, get on the fairground rides, just have a wonderful family day
:03:16. > :03:19.out. The main grandstands here are completely sold out, and we are
:03:19. > :03:25.already had the thrill and the entertainment of the Parachute
:03:25. > :03:28.Regiment, the Red Devils, flying down from the sky with a 2000
:03:28. > :03:32.square foot Union Flag. It is a terrific stage, the perfect
:03:32. > :03:36.platform from which to kick of the four days of the Diamond Jubilee
:03:36. > :03:39.holiday, and so many here are in such an enthusiastic frame of mind,
:03:39. > :03:43.all of them waiting to see the Queen and the royal party arrived
:03:43. > :03:48.and process down the course in an open-top Range Rover, hoping to
:03:48. > :03:52.enjoy the thrill of Derby Day. What a great race with a fabulous
:03:52. > :03:57.history, a race that the Queen herself has loved and enjoyed so
:03:57. > :04:00.The Epsom Derby is the world's greatest Classic horse race.
:04:00. > :04:04.Welcome to Epsom for one of the biggest days in the sporting
:04:04. > :04:08.calendar. Derby Day is always a very special national occasion.
:04:08. > :04:10.Royal association with Epsom goes back 300 years. Her Majesty the
:04:10. > :04:14.Queen making her way to the paddock. This year, with the Jubilee
:04:14. > :04:19.celebrations only days away, it is a really right Royal occasion.
:04:19. > :04:22.great moment, this, in any year, but all the more so in Jubilee year.
:04:22. > :04:26.Can he win the Derby for the Queen? A nation awaits. And Dunfermline
:04:26. > :04:33.now going into the lead! Carlton House now strides to the front for
:04:33. > :04:36.Her Majesty the Queen! It was neck and neck. It's going to be a Royal
:04:36. > :04:44.victory, I think. It's a Royal winner. Jubilee fever seems to be
:04:44. > :04:54.on everyone. A day that Her Majesty the Queen tries not to miss. And to
:04:54. > :04:58.
:04:58. > :05:02.top it all, Her Majesty the Queen Today's jockeys know they're going
:05:02. > :05:07.to perform in front of the Queen. That is Paul Hanagan, the champion
:05:07. > :05:13.jockey, his first Derby ride. William Buick, such a promising
:05:13. > :05:17.young talent, who rides Thought Worthy. Jamie Spencer, one of only
:05:17. > :05:21.two jockeys to have been placed in the race before, he rides Minimise
:05:21. > :05:26.Risk. The only jockey to have won it is Ryan Moore, who has got his
:05:26. > :05:30.game based on, it has been walking the course. He is on board
:05:30. > :05:37.Astrology. He won one Workforce. Jimmy Fortune takes the ride on the
:05:37. > :05:40.second favourite, on fire. -- Bonfire. We will of course be
:05:40. > :05:44.previewing the Derby in full, giving you the stories behind the
:05:44. > :05:49.scenes, but the Diamond Jubilee and the Queen's arrival is forefront in
:05:49. > :05:53.our minds, and the editor of Majesty magazine is alongside me.
:05:53. > :05:58.Have we seen anything like this before? I have never seen anything
:05:58. > :06:02.like this, it is quite magnificent. 60 years ago, when the Derby was
:06:02. > :06:07.run on a Wednesday, the court was still in mourning for the Queen's
:06:07. > :06:13.father, King George VI, and she was not here. Next year is the
:06:13. > :06:16.anniversary of the Coronation Derby, but I think the Queen is probably
:06:16. > :06:21.looking forward to this. There is a wonderful atmosphere of excitement,
:06:21. > :06:24.everyone waiting to see her. much joy from everyone, young and
:06:24. > :06:29.old, whether they can remember the coronation, the accession to the
:06:29. > :06:37.throne, or whether they are very young and just know that this is
:06:37. > :06:42.their Queen. In amongst that crowd for as his son Ali Shah. -- Sonali
:06:42. > :06:46.Shah. We are inside the course over here, and this is where the fun is
:06:46. > :06:51.really being had, we have got lots of families having picnics, we have
:06:51. > :06:58.got the fairground, lots of bunting and plenty of funding. Yes, it is a
:06:58. > :07:02.word, I have made it up! This family are very excited to be here.
:07:03. > :07:08.Grandad Richard has brought along his three kids, their partners and
:07:08. > :07:12.five grandchildren. Why was it so important for you to be here?
:07:12. > :07:17.so important because we have come to support the Queen and two of my
:07:17. > :07:20.grandchildren are half German, and we would like them to feel part of
:07:20. > :07:27.their British Heritage, which they will probably remember in years to
:07:27. > :07:30.come. Robert, you have come from Switzerland. All the way over from
:07:30. > :07:35.Switzerland just to be here on this special weekend, the Queen's
:07:35. > :07:40.Jubilee, so we definitely wanted to be here. Alex, why are you so
:07:40. > :07:44.excited to be here? Excited to be with my family, my brother has come
:07:44. > :07:54.from Switzerland, now we are going to be on television, so we can
:07:54. > :07:54.
:07:54. > :07:58.remember that! Who is looking I just love how excited everybody
:07:58. > :08:03.is, you know, the chance to see the Queen in person and to see air at
:08:03. > :08:07.the place that she has chosen. This is how she once took a car the
:08:07. > :08:11.Diamond Jubilee, and for them to conjure the Derby, racing fans are
:08:11. > :08:16.not, they are here because the Queen has said to come. It is such
:08:16. > :08:20.a wonderfully exciting day anyway, but especially because of his very
:08:20. > :08:24.patriotic feeling that as Brits do not always do very well. It is
:08:24. > :08:29.really nice to feel it here. I know the Queen herself will be looking
:08:29. > :08:34.very closely at the nine runners for the Derby, the smallest field
:08:34. > :08:38.for 105 years, but it is bursting with quality in the face of the hot
:08:38. > :08:44.favourite, Camelot, the odds-on favourites, looking like he will be
:08:44. > :08:48.the shortest-priced favourite since 1947 when a horse called Tudor
:08:48. > :08:54.Minstrel went off at 7-4 on, but only finished 4th. Plenty of people
:08:54. > :08:58.are thinking, I will do my own bit of crown jewels! Quite a comic feel
:08:58. > :09:02.to some of it, but I like the light-hearted mess of it and the
:09:02. > :09:05.fact that everybody... Derby Day has always been like that, it is
:09:05. > :09:09.not like Royal Ascot, where you have to be very smart, everyone can
:09:09. > :09:14.do their own thing here. Particularly on the Downs, as a
:09:14. > :09:17.child, I used to go down to the start, my brother came more often
:09:18. > :09:21.than I did, but you could come in T-shirts and shorts and get close
:09:21. > :09:25.to the horses were just be part of the fairground atmosphere and then
:09:25. > :09:30.try to run across to the rail to see the field flashed by. I have
:09:30. > :09:36.ridden along the Derby course. I used to ride out for a train at
:09:36. > :09:42.Epsom. Good effort! Racing pedigree as well as royal pedigree.
:09:42. > :09:46.nearly! Who are we expecting to see accompany the Queen today? There is
:09:46. > :09:50.a full contingent of members of the Royal Family. Not the Duke and
:09:50. > :09:57.Duchess of Cambridge, apparently, although we understand the
:09:57. > :10:02.Middletons have a runner, trained by Hughie Morrison. They are going
:10:02. > :10:06.to see the Duke of York and his children, Sophie Wessex, Prince
:10:06. > :10:11.Edward, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince and Princess
:10:11. > :10:15.Michael of Kent. The only other people that will not be here are
:10:15. > :10:20.Prince Charles and Camilla. They might make a last-minute appearance,
:10:20. > :10:24.you never know. One of the great Derby Day traditions, the open-top
:10:24. > :10:33.double-decker bus, and those parts right on the rail are booked years
:10:33. > :10:43.in advance, it is a real prime position to being. The Queen is in
:10:43. > :10:46.
:10:46. > :10:50.the state review vehicle, and we We will get a very clear view with
:10:50. > :11:00.the enormous over sized windows and the great big back window as well,
:11:00. > :11:00.
:11:00. > :11:03.everyone getting a clear view are The cars coming through onto the
:11:03. > :11:07.course at Tattenham Corner, and they will come down nearly three
:11:07. > :11:11.furlongs of the course, in front of the crowds, and the Queen will then
:11:11. > :11:14.alight just by the winner's enclosure, walk through the
:11:14. > :11:19.grandstand and take the lift up to the Royal Box. Look at the people
:11:19. > :11:23.running along the infield, trying to keep up! I was asking Willie
:11:23. > :11:27.Carson why the Queen could not come in a carriage, and he said it was
:11:27. > :11:32.too narrow. It does not look that narrow, but it is too narrow for
:11:32. > :11:35.the carriages. The Queen making absolutely sure that her driver
:11:35. > :11:40.stays away from the ground that will be used in the target. That
:11:40. > :11:44.might sound daft, but she will have said, do not go to the inside rail,
:11:44. > :11:49.do not mess up the cause ground. They are swinging wide around
:11:49. > :11:53.Tattenham Corner and coming down at a sedate pace. The Queen would
:11:53. > :12:03.never do anything to interfere with horse racing. She is so aware about
:12:03. > :12:05.
:12:05. > :12:10.So we have a full cavalcade there of seven cars in total. As Ingrid
:12:10. > :12:14.mentioned, in some of the others, the Duke of York, Princess Beatrice
:12:14. > :12:18.and Princess Eugenie, the Duke of Gloucester and the Duchess of
:12:18. > :12:25.Gloucester, Prince Michael of Kent, Princess Michael of Kent, and
:12:25. > :12:31.Princess Alexandra, the honourable lady. And the Queen is wearing, you
:12:31. > :12:40.can just get a flash there of the royal blue coat, and any that a
:12:40. > :12:43.white silk dress. There had is by Rachel Trevor Morgan, who makes
:12:43. > :12:47.many of the Queen's hat, five of which will be required for Royal
:12:47. > :12:51.Ascot, when we will see a royal procession of a different kind with
:12:51. > :12:55.the horse-drawn carriages. But a motorcade procession coming down
:12:55. > :12:58.the course here. The Queen is like all of us, she doesn't necessarily
:12:58. > :13:03.decide what she is going to wear until the day, because it is
:13:03. > :13:08.whether dependent. It is chilly today, there is quite a chill in
:13:08. > :13:12.the air, and the wind is coming down the course. It will be a tail
:13:12. > :13:18.wind for the horses. It will slow them down a bit. The dash will be
:13:18. > :13:25.run very quickly today, because of that following wind. A tail wind.
:13:25. > :13:29.Exactly, yes. It helps on a horse! One thing people love is being able
:13:30. > :13:36.to talk to the Queen about horses, and it is a great ice-breaker. As
:13:36. > :13:46.long as you know a little bit about them,... Did you tell them that you
:13:46. > :13:47.
:13:47. > :13:51.had ridden around Epsom? I have No, I have never told her that.
:13:51. > :13:55.Queen nearly always wears white gloves, waving at the clouds. The
:13:55. > :13:58.Duke of Edinburgh with a broad smile on his face. I'm sure they
:13:58. > :14:01.will appreciate the affection that's clearly coming across from
:14:01. > :14:06.the hundreds of thousands of people here today. I understand Her
:14:06. > :14:12.Majesty is really excited about today and she will be rooting for,
:14:12. > :14:19.I don't know the name to which horse in the Derby... Bonfire? She
:14:19. > :14:26.might be rooting for bon bongs as her racing adviser mansion the --
:14:26. > :14:33.rooting for Doncaster Rover, as her racing adviser manages the team who
:14:33. > :14:40.look after Bonfire. The Queen had a winner two days ago at Sandown?
:14:40. > :14:45.Carlton House, the first time he's won since last year. He's a classy
:14:45. > :14:54.horse and I think he will run in Group 1 races and give the Queen a
:14:54. > :15:01.lot of pleasure. She has a runner today, Set To Music at Haydock. I
:15:01. > :15:05.suspect the guests in the Royal Box will be tuned in to that. Do they
:15:05. > :15:10.show Haydock on television? Not on the BBC but the Queen will be able
:15:10. > :15:14.to have a look. Whistles and cheers ringing out as the Queen's car
:15:14. > :15:19.arrives at the bright red lollipop, the winning post here, the most
:15:19. > :15:28.valuable stick of wood in the world, as was once said, because the horse
:15:28. > :15:35.that passes that post in front propels himself to legendary status.
:15:35. > :15:45.The National anthem will be sung for the Queen by Katherine Jenkins,
:15:45. > :15:53.
:15:53. > :15:56.the multi-million album selling # God save our gracious Queen!
:15:56. > :16:03.# Long live our noble Queen! # God save the Queen!
:16:04. > :16:13.# Send her victorious. # Happy and glorious.
:16:14. > :16:20.
:16:21. > :16:30.# Long to reign over us. # God save the Queen. #
:16:30. > :16:35.CHEERING Katherine Jenkins hitting all the
:16:35. > :16:39.right notes. What a magnificent rendition of the National anthem.
:16:39. > :16:45.The green now greet by the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey. She will be
:16:45. > :16:50.meeting Anthony Cane as well, the chairman of Epsom downs racecourse
:16:50. > :16:55.and a selected group of people invited into the line-up to greet
:16:55. > :17:02.the Queen. We can see the Duke of York in the foreground of our
:17:02. > :17:07.picture, with his daughters, princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
:17:07. > :17:12.The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh having a chat with everybody. On
:17:12. > :17:16.Derby Day so easy, because what do you think will win the Derby is the
:17:16. > :17:24.obvious question. Yes, there is plenty to talk about stkphrfpblt
:17:24. > :17:33.that is Anthony Cane, the chairman of Epsom. You can get a full look
:17:33. > :17:39.there at the royal Bluecoat and the hat. The wonderful colour to wear,
:17:39. > :17:47.an appropriate colour to wear. flower blue I was going to say.
:17:47. > :17:50.Royal blue isn't it? I'm sure you are right. The Queen and the Duke
:17:50. > :17:55.of Edinburgh will make their way through the tunnel under the
:17:55. > :18:00.Grandstand which has a glass wall in the side of it, looks into the
:18:00. > :18:05.weighing room. There'll be jockeys lined up to get their own personal
:18:05. > :18:10.view of the Queen. The Queen always has the winning jockey doesn't she
:18:10. > :18:16.to join her in the Royal Box after the Derby, is that correct? Yes, he
:18:16. > :18:22.is invited to meet her to have a drink and how he won this Derby, or
:18:22. > :18:26.this year how she won the Derby if Hayley Turner is successful. That's
:18:26. > :18:30.the opening, as it were, the official opening to Derby Day 2012,
:18:30. > :18:36.with the Royal Procession. Ingrid, how lovely it is to see the Queen
:18:36. > :18:40.here looking so relaxed and for a day we know she will enjoy so much.
:18:40. > :18:47.This will obviously be the highlight perhaps of her weekend.
:18:47. > :18:50.Tomorrow the river Pageant is excitinging I fear about the
:18:50. > :18:56.weather tomorrow but the Queen, I've heard, is really looking
:18:56. > :18:59.forward to this. She is a very humble person. She is very touched
:18:59. > :19:03.when people show such love and affection for her. There was plenty
:19:03. > :19:07.of that on display from the crowds here at Epsom. A chance now for the
:19:07. > :19:12.Queen and the rest of us to focus on the sporting day ahead, the
:19:12. > :19:15.highlight of course being the Derby at 4 o'clock.
:19:15. > :19:18.Racing is the Queen's private passion. We'll be speaking to those
:19:19. > :19:27.who know all about her interest and her knowledge of this extraordinary
:19:27. > :19:30.sport. It's a family affair for Adrian and
:19:31. > :19:35.Joseph O'Brien, who could become the first ever father and son to
:19:35. > :19:39.triumph in the Derby. Camelot is a red hot favourite and we'll be
:19:39. > :19:48.asking, what makes the perfect Derby horse? And trying to find the
:19:48. > :19:57.answer. Derby drama from last year, Carlton House started favourite. He
:19:57. > :20:01.finished third. And set off the fireworks for the
:20:02. > :20:11.Baldings, if Bonfire wins. My brother trains him at the place
:20:12. > :20:39.
:20:39. > :20:44.where I grew up. Katherine Jenkins, having performed
:20:44. > :20:47.the national anthem, having her photograph taken by the many media
:20:47. > :20:51.photographers. She looks magnificent if a little cold in
:20:51. > :20:57.that dress. She looks very fine and that really was a wonderful way to
:20:57. > :21:04.start the day. I'm joined as always by a four-times Derby-winning
:21:04. > :21:10.jockey, Willie son. What a day this is. Good afternoon everyone. Her
:21:10. > :21:15.Majesty, we have got her presence today, and it is the start of
:21:15. > :21:18.celebrations for the Diamond Jubilee. Have a party! Will have a
:21:18. > :21:25.party and people will particularly have a party if you tell them
:21:25. > :21:32.what's going win the Derby. We only have a field of nine, a small field,
:21:32. > :21:37.and an odds-on favourite in Camelot. He is the favourite. When people
:21:37. > :21:42.say what will win the Derby, I say it is a penalty kick, and some
:21:42. > :21:46.penalty kicks do miss. The biggest danger to him is himself. His
:21:47. > :21:53.stable companion did well at Chester. Astrology. Yes, Astrology.
:21:53. > :22:00.He did well. And Bonfire, he won one of the best-regarded trials of
:22:00. > :22:06.the Derby. The Balding family have got all the strength behind Bonfire.
:22:06. > :22:13.So, basically, that's all we can must per up against him. They are
:22:13. > :22:19.very nice colts but there's only nine and you have to go back to
:22:19. > :22:24.1907 - that long ago, since there was this small a field.
:22:24. > :22:31.smallest field in 105 years. last time an odds-on favourite was
:22:31. > :22:35.beaten was possibly The Minstrel. He was the shortest priced. A few
:22:35. > :22:39.odds-on favourites have been beaten since then. Sheriff Hutton was the

:27:15. > :27:21.see me home. He was a good Derby winner. I remember that year, it
:27:21. > :27:26.was one of the first years I was working for the BBC. My job was to
:27:26. > :27:31.interview the winning Jocky. I came towards him with a microphone and
:27:31. > :27:35.he screamed at me. There was a lot of pressure on me that day.
:27:35. > :27:39.were brilliant on all four occasions. Thank you very much.
:27:39. > :27:45.You're welcome. We have another superstar here and she just sang
:27:45. > :27:52.the National anthem. Katherine Jenkins with Sonali. It must feel
:27:52. > :27:57.good to be back on Britain and on a day like this. It is incredible. To
:27:57. > :28:00.be home on a weekend like this, it is such a huge honour to be here.
:28:00. > :28:04.I'm having an amazing day, thank you. What was your reaction when
:28:04. > :28:11.you were asked to sing the National anthem for the Queen here at the
:28:11. > :28:15.Derby? The first day of her Jubilee weekend. For me it is such a huge
:28:15. > :28:20.honour. Everything is being kicked off here today. It is the first
:28:20. > :28:24.time that the National anthem has been sung to the Queen in these
:28:24. > :28:28.celebrations. Part of me hesitated and I would have stood in the rain
:28:28. > :28:32.and sung for her. It was an amazing moment, thank you. What are you
:28:32. > :28:40.doing with the rest of the holiday weekend? Have you got your own
:28:40. > :28:44.bunting out? Yes, and because I haven't seen mime Fayely -- seen my
:28:44. > :28:49.family for a while we'll be celebrating. Can you reveal
:28:49. > :28:52.anything to us about the Olympics? I am involved but I can't say in
:28:52. > :28:57.what way. Everyone will know about it shortly. I feel so proud we have
:28:57. > :29:04.this and the Olympics coming. It is a great time for Britain. Enjoy the
:29:04. > :29:10.rest of your day. Thank you, and to you. The fabulous Katherine Jenkins.
:29:10. > :29:13.She is so approachable and friendly as well as being talented. The
:29:14. > :29:18.newest of the grandstands here at Epsom. That's sold out. The Queen's
:29:18. > :29:23.stand is sold out as well. All of those who've dressed up in their
:29:23. > :29:27.finery are here to enjoy the Derby. The betting ring is teeming with
:29:28. > :29:33.people. All having bets in the supports races and piling on to
:29:33. > :29:37.whatever is their fancy in the Investec Derby. We have a very
:29:37. > :29:47.short price, odds-on favourite in Camelot. What sums are being bet
:29:47. > :29:47.
:29:47. > :29:50.and what can we expect from the Good to see you, you have just got
:29:50. > :29:58.that Corinne Bach your face after Reading coming back into the
:29:58. > :30:03.We will be happier when we beat Everton! What about today's racing?
:30:03. > :30:07.Absolutely fantastic, it is the best day of the whole year. I love
:30:07. > :30:14.the Derby, hopefully we will see a wonderful horse. One to that the
:30:14. > :30:19.supporting card? It is very tricky. There are a lot of handicaps. Spoke
:30:19. > :30:24.To Carlo, I saw him at Newmarket, he finished a long way clear of the
:30:24. > :30:29.others, I think he will run well, a decent bet today. The dash is a
:30:29. > :30:34.great race, the draw is going to be important. I have got a sneaking
:30:34. > :30:39.feeling for Jamesway, he has run in this race a few times. If you get
:30:39. > :30:43.the breaks, he will go very well. The Derby itself, what you make are
:30:43. > :30:47.that? Hopefully we will see a wonderful horse Camelot was
:30:47. > :30:51.brilliant at the Guineas, but he was not quite trained for that day.
:30:51. > :30:55.I think he will be a lot better today than he was that day. I do
:30:55. > :31:00.not think the trip will be a problem. I nailed my colours to
:31:00. > :31:04.Bonfire, and I am sticking with him, but I'm very wary of Camelot. Is
:31:04. > :31:11.something special. What will Clare Balding be like if Bonfire wins?
:31:11. > :31:18.have had a spread bet on the tears, but I cannot tell you how much!
:31:18. > :31:22.They were offering 66-1 for me to kiss you, Willie, a great price, we
:31:22. > :31:27.will do it right now! Out on the course is where we find Rishi
:31:27. > :31:31.Persad. Today's Investec Derby is expected to be a significant test
:31:31. > :31:37.of stamina, sometimes ensign is mistakenly thought to be a sharp
:31:37. > :31:41.test over a mile and a half, but the standard time for an average
:31:41. > :31:46.horse over the distance is actually slower than racecourses at the
:31:46. > :31:50.Curragh, York and Newmarket. It is expected to be a test of stamina,
:31:50. > :31:54.so the horses will have to see this out, the best Stayers will win. One
:31:54. > :31:59.factor that plays an important part is the camber, this bloke in the
:31:59. > :32:03.home straight where tired horses drift over towards the inside in a
:32:03. > :32:07.knackered sort of way. They roll over to find you, make. If somebody
:32:07. > :32:11.said to you, we will have the world's greatest horse race over a
:32:11. > :32:15.mile and a half, and we will have it at Epsom, if this track had not
:32:15. > :32:20.been here, you would say they were bonkers. It is a true test of the
:32:20. > :32:24.thoroughbreds. It is indeed, today's race looks like it will be
:32:24. > :32:29.run on fast ground. They put three millimetres of water on the course
:32:29. > :32:35.overnight. There was an insignificant reign. What you make
:32:35. > :32:39.our conditions? Good to firm, a level playing-field for everyone.
:32:39. > :32:45.It is not going to suit everyone, but Camelot will be happy enough.
:32:45. > :32:49.Do you think he will win? Yes. going to go for Astrology. The only
:32:49. > :32:54.problem in flat races with a field this small his tactical, who is
:32:54. > :32:58.going to make the running? Where will Camelot said? It depends on
:32:58. > :33:02.the pace, doesn't it? If the pace is not strong enough, it becomes
:33:02. > :33:08.very tactical. Like yesterday in the Oaks, they were climbing all
:33:08. > :33:13.over each other. If they do not go fast enough, he will have to look
:33:13. > :33:17.out. He might get trapped, he might not be able to get out when he
:33:17. > :33:22.wants to. But they have got another runner in the race, and they have
:33:22. > :33:27.got control of the race. Ryan Moore will be told what to do, but I
:33:27. > :33:32.would imagine, I don't know, but I would imagine he will be told to go
:33:32. > :33:37.out there and just let his horse used his stride and go a nice
:33:37. > :33:41.gallop and let him go, a nice rhythm, let it keep on increasing,
:33:41. > :33:45.and that will help the other horse as well. It is the right way for
:33:45. > :33:50.Astrology to be ridden as well, because that is how he was ridden
:33:50. > :33:54.at Chester. You never know, Astrology might not get caught.
:33:54. > :34:00.agree, that could be the danger. Thought Worthy will be prominent as
:34:00. > :34:04.well, Bonfire will be up in the first three or four. He might stay.
:34:04. > :34:09.The sharpest acceleration has been from Main Sequence in winning the
:34:09. > :34:13.Lingfield Derby Trial. Ted Durcan is with Ian Bartlett. Good
:34:13. > :34:18.afternoon, everybody. Your 5th Derby ride, but the best one you
:34:18. > :34:23.have had a chance on so far. Absolutely, a lovely horse on the
:34:23. > :34:28.way up. He has to pick up the Anne Davies afternoon, but he has done
:34:28. > :34:32.everything we have asked of him up until now. We know exactly where we
:34:32. > :34:37.are within, it is a big stage, a lovely horse, lovely ride, I am
:34:37. > :34:41.excited, let's hope we had some luck and let's hope it is a strong
:34:41. > :34:46.race, and even raised with no excuses on behalf of anyone. Yeah,
:34:46. > :34:50.exciting. He must have improved very quickly this year, he started
:34:50. > :34:57.in the handicap, he won the Lingfield Derby Trial, has improved
:34:57. > :35:02.since then? He has, but in the mornings he is the most lazy horse.
:35:02. > :35:06.Is not a flashy horse at all. He rarely shows you anything. But he
:35:06. > :35:11.has strengthened up a lot, he is great mentally, and each ran he has
:35:11. > :35:17.sharpened up and hardened up a bit. Look, this is like a stack up, we
:35:17. > :35:24.are hopeful. A good gallop would suit you, you have no doubts about
:35:24. > :35:27.him staying. He is a horse that has been held up in his races. He likes
:35:27. > :35:31.to warming to it slowly. I would hope that it is an even run race.
:35:31. > :35:37.Best of luck. Thank you very much, thank you.
:35:37. > :35:47.A lovely guy, Ted Durcan, a big chance for him on the horse, Main

:36:09. > :36:13.Swinburn and Mickael Barzalona. He rides Camelot for Aidan O'Brien,
:36:13. > :36:19.the 2000 Guineas winner. The last 2000 Guineas winner to win here was
:36:19. > :36:22.Sea The Stars. Hayley Turner's first ride in the big race on
:36:22. > :36:28.Cavaleiro. Main Sequence and Ted Durcan from David Lanigan, the
:36:28. > :36:31.assistant trainer to Henry Cecil, now training in his own right.
:36:31. > :36:37.Mickdaam gives Paul Hanagan, the champion jockey, his first ever
:36:37. > :36:40.Derby ride for Richard Fahey. We then have Minimise Risk, also
:36:40. > :36:44.trained by Andrew Balding, a beautiful horse did not handle the
:36:44. > :36:48.ground at Chester last time. It will be a different affair on
:36:48. > :36:52.faster ground here. Jamie Spencer riding for his Retained owner.
:36:52. > :36:58.Rugged Cross, a rare Derby runner for Henry Candy, he does not put

:37:05. > :37:09.you never know. -- Thought Worthy, a lovely, lovely horse trained by
:37:09. > :37:14.John Gosden and ridden by William Buick. That is the field, small but
:37:14. > :37:24.select, and this is the betting. Camelot is a very strong favourite
:37:24. > :37:37.
:37:37. > :37:40.One of the most interested observers in the paddock beforehand
:37:40. > :37:43.will be Her Majesty the Queen, because there is nothing she enjoys
:37:43. > :37:48.more, if she owns one of the runners, but looking at other
:37:48. > :37:52.beautifully bred horses, the breeding of horses is part science
:37:52. > :37:57.and part art, a huge intellectual challenge follows to try to mix the
:37:57. > :37:59.right bloodlines, and that is part of the reason that this sport is so
:37:59. > :38:09.popular with the Royal Family and a particular passion for Her Majesty
:38:09. > :38:11.
:38:12. > :38:15.I think a love of racing is so good for the sport generally. You cannot

:38:20. > :38:24.Majesty the Queen making her way to the attic... It is part of the
:38:24. > :38:28.tradition, it brings great glamour to the sport, and also she is a
:38:28. > :38:33.very knowledgeable Queen about racing itself. It is a really right
:38:33. > :38:39.royal occasion. It is an honour to have her involved, and we are all
:38:39. > :38:46.very lucky that she has got a strong passion for it. Generous!
:38:46. > :38:53.The Queen. I had seen her chat to stable lads and girls like her best
:38:53. > :38:56.friend. It is an honour for me to ride for her, and it is just good
:38:56. > :39:01.for racing in general that he has such a keen interest. And long may
:39:01. > :39:09.it last. People are truly appreciative of what she has done
:39:09. > :39:17.and continues to do. Generous is the winner! My horse! This is the
:39:17. > :39:23.lovely thing about racing, horses bring us all together. And she, of
:39:23. > :39:31.course, has been an enormous help in that way, and I think everyone
:39:31. > :39:38.involved in racing is just so grateful that she loves it so much.

:40:07. > :40:11.wonderful sight. The runners going to pose for our first race, four of
:40:11. > :40:15.the jockeys who are in the Derby are in this race, and it will be

:41:59. > :42:05.and has form with Main Sequence, pretty unlucky to bump into him, to

:42:08. > :42:15.his reappearance at Newmarket on soft ground. Different conditions
:42:15. > :42:20.today, but he will have a decent enough chance, Willie. He is
:42:20. > :42:27.progressing, improving overtime, and he just needs to improve a
:42:27. > :42:32.little bit more. Basically, he has been running so well, but obviously
:42:32. > :42:37.your brother has got him really sharp for today, is that correct?
:42:37. > :42:43.would hope so. A big team of people, the owners, will be cheering on
:42:43. > :42:48.Open Water. He will run better than he has done before. Well, he has
:42:48. > :42:52.run pretty well before, but anyway, this is the big danger, Grandeur,
:42:52. > :42:58.William Buick on board, an impressive winner on his first
:42:58. > :43:02.attempt at Goodwood last time. he won at Goodwood last time,
:43:02. > :43:06.obviously another horse that is going forwards, carrying nine-stone
:43:06. > :43:11.three today. You would have to think that he would be a horse that
:43:11. > :43:15.has got a very big chance, and all the punters actually thinks so,
:43:15. > :43:22.because he is the favourite. Do you think the draw has any
:43:22. > :43:26.significance? Grandeur at a disadvantage in 13? Absolutely, on
:43:26. > :43:30.the outside. Put it this way, you have to go and work, use up petrol
:43:30. > :43:36.to get a good position, and on his racecourse you do not want to be
:43:36. > :43:41.going around three and four wide it all away. He would be preferably
:43:41. > :43:45.one of two off the inside rail, and if you are drawn on the inside, you
:43:45. > :43:51.jump out and you can just sit there and say petrol, you know, save
:43:51. > :43:56.energy, whereas on the outside you use it up. Let's have a look at a
:43:56. > :44:03.horse right in the middle, Wrotham Heath, trained by Henry Cecil, who
:44:03. > :44:08.has had Derby winners on four different occasions. Tom Queally,

:44:14. > :44:20.a horse that can be fairly keen, but good form, finishing second in
:44:20. > :44:27.the Dante after Bonfire. Yes, he has got very good form, he is a
:44:27. > :44:34.horse that has got to be settled. Just sweating between his hind legs,
:44:34. > :44:39.and it is not a warm day today. is a day when horses should not be
:44:39. > :44:43.sweating, there is a very chilly wind. That is Fennell Bay going

:45:24. > :45:28.Let's join Jim. There is Ryan Moore on Mister Music.
:45:28. > :45:36.He will be riding Astrology later on in the Derby.
:45:36. > :45:41.He won it two years ago on Workforce. The atmosphere is
:45:41. > :45:45.building here. The tension is building. A great scene across the
:45:45. > :45:55.Downs. They are set and ready for the Diamond Jubilee Handicap, a
:45:55. > :45:55.
:45:55. > :46:05.mile and a quarter. They stand... Spoke spoing is restless in six.
:46:05. > :46:06.
:46:06. > :46:10.-- Spoke To Carlo is restless in six.
:46:10. > :46:17.They're off! In the centre first away position very quickly into
:46:17. > :46:21.surprise and Fennell Bay was smartly away. Open Water vying for
:46:21. > :46:25.the early lead with The Giving Tree in the orange cap and Fennell Bay,
:46:25. > :46:32.who is holding the inside rail. A line of three. The pace is furious.
:46:32. > :46:37.In behind them in fourth is Position followed by Entifaadha.
:46:38. > :46:42.The noseband and black cap from Wrotham Heath. Back is Grandeur.
:46:42. > :46:46.They are followed by Spoke To Carlo on the inside of runners. Well back
:46:46. > :46:52.is Blades Lad, who is out the back, in company with Star Date. Giving
:46:52. > :46:56.them a start is Mister Music. Downhill to Tattenham Corner. The
:46:56. > :47:04.leader is Open Water. Out in front bay length or so to in second place
:47:04. > :47:07.The Giving Tree. Tucked behind them is Fennell Bay. Then Position and
:47:08. > :47:12.then Entifaadha. They are in advance of Wrotham Heath. Further
:47:12. > :47:18.back is Spoke To Carlo on the inside rail. Eight lengths off the
:47:18. > :47:22.lead from Grandeur. Back in the field and trying to pull is Star
:47:22. > :47:26.Date, from Blades Lad and Mister Music. Racing down to Tattenham
:47:26. > :47:30.Corner and the leader is still Open Water. Open Water bidding to make
:47:30. > :47:35.every yard here by three parts. On the outside of The Giving Tree and
:47:35. > :47:41.in third tucked away behind them is Fennell Bay, followed by Wrotham
:47:41. > :47:45.Heath. There's a faller! It is Star Date. Star Date and Darren Egan is
:47:45. > :47:55.on the floor. They've got just over two furlongs to travel. The leader
:47:55. > :47:59.on the -- the leader is Open Water. On the nearside in the pink cap and
:47:59. > :48:03.then Spoke To Carlo. They race with a furlong left. Wrotham Heath is in
:48:03. > :48:07.the lead from Open Water. Spoke To Carlo and Grandeur down the outside.
:48:07. > :48:12.It is Wrotham Heath trying to hold on. Wrotham Heath just the leader.
:48:12. > :48:16.Grandeur coming at him. Wrotham Heath a neck in front. He just
:48:16. > :48:23.holds on to beat Grandeur. In third is Spoke To Carlo, followed in
:48:23. > :48:27.fourth by Open Water and then a gap to Fennell Bay. Further back is
:48:27. > :48:34.Blades Lad followed by The Giving Tree and then Position, Entifaadha,
:48:35. > :48:39.then Mister Music. The riderless Star Date is careering down the
:48:39. > :48:43.track. Appears to be OK, the horse. We'll have to check and see how
:48:43. > :48:51.Darren Egan is after that fall. The winner is number five, Wrotham
:48:51. > :49:01.Heath, ridden by Tom Queally and owned by Prince Abdulla. Second is
:49:01. > :49:01.
:49:01. > :49:07.Grandeur ridden by William Buick. Third is -- fourth is Open Water.
:49:08. > :49:14.Wrotham Heath got there by a head from Grandeur, who looked to be a
:49:14. > :49:19.danger. The jockey is still on the ground, I'm told. Darren Egan. A
:49:19. > :49:24.heavy fall. Spoke To Carlo in third. In fourth is Open Water, who was
:49:24. > :49:30.bidding to make every yard for Hayley Turner. A gap to Fennell Bay
:49:30. > :49:34.in fifth. A long, long gap to the others. The sixth looks like Mister
:49:34. > :49:41.Music, maybe just ahead of The Giving Tree. They are followed by
:49:41. > :49:46.Position. Still coming in at long intervals. Entifaadha. A strong
:49:46. > :49:52.gallop early. There is one more left to come. Wrotham Heath on the
:49:52. > :50:00.outside with the pink cap. The famous Khalid Abdullah colours, who
:50:00. > :50:06.have been carried to victory here on Derby Day on several occasions.
:50:07. > :50:11.Quest For Fame and Workforce are a couple who come to mind. A neck
:50:11. > :50:20.between second and third. The horse appears to be OK, Star Date.
:50:20. > :50:25.Trained by Gerrard Butler. 27.01 is the time. As you can see down the
:50:25. > :50:34.track, the ambulance attendants are with Darren Egan. The screens are
:50:34. > :50:39.up. This is not necessarily a sign that it is totally serious. It is
:50:39. > :50:44.obviously of some concern or much concern, but it is a safeguard. It
:50:44. > :50:49.is what they do automatically. To the protect them from the view of
:50:49. > :50:59.the public. The winner is Wrotham Heath, ridden by Queally Queen
:50:59. > :51:05.Mother. And Wrotham Heath, just a little reluctant, it is quite a
:51:05. > :51:10.scary winner's enclosure. Let's look at the reason that Star Date
:51:10. > :51:17.fell. We know the horse is alright and we hope very much that Darren
:51:17. > :51:23.Egan who rode him is. Willie, when horses are tight like this, if you
:51:23. > :51:28.clip heels you can come straight down. Oh! I don't know how he
:51:28. > :51:35.clipped heel there is but he must have done. He was in between two
:51:35. > :51:41.horses. That's unusual. It does look as though it was a clip of
:51:41. > :51:46.heels, but he must have clipped the horse's front leg, not behind. It
:51:46. > :51:54.looks like a clipped heel but this horse, the winner here, Wrotham
:51:54. > :51:59.Heath. He is settling beautifully. He gave him a lovely ride. Grandeur
:51:59. > :52:03.is trying to catch him but failing to do so. A tough performance from
:52:03. > :52:07.this horse, who clearly is going on to better things. Tom Queally is
:52:07. > :52:12.the man on board. I was saying to Tom what a brave
:52:12. > :52:15.performance. I thought Grandeur was going to pass you but he stuck his
:52:15. > :52:19.neck out. They were stacking up one by one to have a pop at him. In
:52:19. > :52:24.fairness to the horse he was strong in the line. I don't know whether
:52:24. > :52:31.this is the ideal place for him but he won well despite it. Do you
:52:31. > :52:37.think there'll be a radiation for him at Royal Ascot? -- A race for
:52:37. > :52:44.him at Royal Ascot? We'll see what Henry thinks. What are conditions
:52:44. > :52:52.like on the course? It is riding well. He did a good job. A quick
:52:52. > :52:56.word. We are speculating as to what race he may head for if he goes to
:52:56. > :53:02.Royal Ascot, Wrotham Heath. That's a good question. We talked about
:53:02. > :53:07.the group 3 mile and a quarter. I don't know. I think, Tom said he
:53:07. > :53:11.won despite the track, so he's got to improve a bit more to go from
:53:12. > :53:17.handicap to group racing. It's a nice idea. There is no way we can
:53:17. > :53:24.conduct an interview without asking the wellbeing of the mighty Frankel.
:53:24. > :53:30.He is in good form. He worked nicely this morning. Shane rode him.
:53:30. > :53:35.Very pleased. Seems happy. We'll see you on 9th June. Good to talk
:53:35. > :53:43.to you. There is the winner, Wrotham Heath.
:53:43. > :53:51.Tom Queally's 23rd winner of the season, is Sir Henry Cecil's 16th.
:53:51. > :53:57.Tom Queally coming back into the jockeys' room. Out on the track
:53:57. > :54:04.those screens are still erected. That's automatic procedure these
:54:04. > :54:13.days. We hope that Darren Egan is OK. We hope to get word of his
:54:13. > :54:17.condition as soon as possible. So, Wrotham Heath is the winner. As
:54:17. > :54:22.Clare said, quite a daunting, quite an unusual winner's enclosure in
:54:22. > :54:30.front of the stand. You see all those faces there. It will be even
:54:30. > :54:36.more packed when it comes to the big race at 4 o'clock.
:54:36. > :54:41.Let's check the result of the opening race of Investec Derby Day
:54:41. > :54:48.2012. Wrotham Heath wins at 5-1. Second
:54:48. > :54:52.was Grandeur, and third Spoke To Carlo. Let's look back at this mile
:54:52. > :55:00.and a quarter race, which is always a competitive and good affair.
:55:00. > :55:07.Plenty of future winners have come out of this. This is Sir Mark
:55:07. > :55:12.Prescott's first race of the season. Ryan Moore was squeezed out there
:55:13. > :55:19.in the yellow of stall ten. Not done any favours. From then on he
:55:19. > :55:25.always seemed to be struggling. then he fades out of the contest
:55:25. > :55:31.the last two furlongs. We'll look at a few horses to watch out for
:55:31. > :55:36.next time. The two which close strongly are the light blue and the
:55:36. > :55:40.red cap. I want tow watch what happens to Paul Hanagan's mount on
:55:40. > :55:49.the inside. The horse in front in the orange cap is drifting to the
:55:49. > :55:54.rails as he gets tired. Paul is squeezed out of it here. He has to
:55:54. > :56:00.snatch up and in the end his race is over. But up at the front end
:56:00. > :56:07.Grandeur and Wrotham Heath have fought a Titanic duel and Wrotham
:56:07. > :56:14.Heath had enough left in the tank to get him home. Open Water. All of
:56:14. > :56:18.these horses win races. Tom Queally was saying they all came at him but
:56:18. > :56:23.they are all responding. They are all going on the to handicap wins
:56:23. > :56:25.aren't they? Without a doubt. out for them at Ascot and Newmarket
:56:25. > :56:29.in the summer. There are plenty of win ers in that.
:56:29. > :56:33.The crowds here are enjoying the start of the Diamond Jubilee. It's
:56:33. > :56:39.a huge year this in Great Britain and for London, with the Olympics
:56:39. > :56:46.and the Paralympics coming up. The lomp torch has been visiting
:56:46. > :56:53.various -- Olympic torch has been visiting various racecourses.
:56:53. > :56:59.At Chester there were 25,000 people there and Zara Phillips has also
:56:59. > :57:03.been carrying the torch. It will be visiting close to you, so do check
:57:03. > :57:07.the BBC website to find out when it is coming to your town or home
:57:07. > :57:11.village. We shall continue to look ahead to the Investec Derby,
:57:11. > :57:18.because this year one of the most engage and impressive stories has
:57:18. > :57:23.been the progress of Camelot. What a responsibility for Joseph O'Brien,
:57:23. > :57:33.the 19-year-old son of Aidan O'Brien. On the far left is Seamie
:57:33. > :57:38.Heffernan, who yesterday won the Oaks for Aidan on Wa s. He is there
:57:38. > :57:42.to offer his advice. Is this a walking race? They are walking
:57:43. > :57:47.pretty fast aren't they? In the 2930 years that the Derby has been
:57:47. > :57:50.run, never before has a father trained the horse ridden by his son
:57:50. > :58:00.that's won the Derby. We could witness a moment of history at 4
:58:00. > :58:03.
:58:03. > :58:06.o'clock today. o'clock today.
:58:06. > :58:12.The first thing you see when you drive through the gates of
:58:12. > :58:18.Ballydoyle is this statue of Nijinksky, the horse that he is
:58:18. > :58:25.trying to emulate. For young Joseph O'Brien, he's trying to win his own
:58:25. > :58:30.legend. Three years ago you ran Coat Of Arms, now you've ridden
:58:30. > :58:35.three Guinea winners and now the Derby. If I take a step back
:58:35. > :58:38.sometimes, to realise how well things have gone and the position
:58:38. > :58:42.I'm in, there is always going to be plenty of people saying this, that
:58:42. > :58:46.and the other, but there is always a certain amount of pressure on
:58:46. > :58:52.anyone riding in any big race. I've been lucky that tsunami of those
:58:52. > :58:58.have paid off. Joseph has been reared from the time he was a baby
:58:59. > :59:03.like he's been here. It is, he's never known or done or seen
:59:03. > :59:13.anything else from the time he has been able to waufpblgt
:59:13. > :59:15.
:59:16. > :59:20.It is Father's Day at the Breeder's Cup.
:59:20. > :59:25.I've been lucky to ride with some of the best riders in the world. I
:59:25. > :59:29.have been working with them since I was very small. I big thanks to
:59:29. > :59:34.them. I don't think that anyone else could have been exposed to
:59:34. > :59:41.riding more than anyone than he has been at the age of 19.
:59:41. > :59:45.Last year, I never forget the shock when there was that win at the
:59:45. > :59:50.Irish guineas. The smile on your face? No words can describe the
:59:50. > :59:56.amount of satisfaction we get from that for us all. It bring it is all
:59:56. > :00:00.closer, I suppose. As a family you seem close. You won the Irish Cup
:00:00. > :00:04.you were there, when you won the guineas you were there, is it
:00:04. > :00:08.something that you celebrate together? That depends on Joseph.
:00:08. > :00:14.If he is doing a race the next day, it is normally a quiet one.
:00:14. > :00:18.What about dad? If I make an error it is my fault. I have to see what
:00:18. > :00:24.I have done wrong and try to lever let it happen again.
:00:24. > :00:29.I am not that critical of him. He is critical of himself, like from
:00:29. > :00:37.the time he has been very small, he tells me about how things are right
:00:37. > :00:40.or wrong. What about Anne-Marie? She probably
:00:40. > :00:49.worries more than I do, but that is natural.
:00:49. > :00:53.What about Nan? What does she say if you are beaten? Not a lot.
:00:53. > :00:59.Usually the silent treatment! COMMENTATOR: Camelot just in front.
:00:59. > :01:03.It is a desperate bid to the line. It is a win for Aidan O'Brien once
:01:03. > :01:08.again, ridden by his young son, Joseph O'Brien.
:01:09. > :01:14.How is it then for you, trainer of the Derby favourite, but also a
:01:14. > :01:18.jockey of one of the rides? It is an incredible feeling, but a
:01:18. > :01:22.feeling of gratitude that we are in the position to have the horse and
:01:22. > :01:25.that Joseph is hopefully going to be able to ride it.
:01:25. > :01:35.It is a race that everyone dreams of winning from the time that they
:01:35. > :01:36.
:01:36. > :01:40.can walk. It would be a dream come true.
:01:40. > :01:46.It's an old head on young, young shoulders. You can see there has
:01:46. > :01:51.they continue the fast-track walk around the course. You can see how
:01:51. > :01:57.tall Joseph f is, obviously pairing him down to minimum weight, it is a
:01:57. > :02:02.hard task, but so far, so good. How big is the responsibility carrying
:02:02. > :02:07.with Camelot now? He is so young. He reminds me of Lester Piggott. He
:02:07. > :02:12.just shuts everything out and gets the job done. He has, he did so
:02:12. > :02:17.with the win with St Nicholas Abbey. We will see him coming up in the
:02:17. > :02:23.race after next. It is sometimes worse for the people around, for
:02:23. > :02:29.his mother, brothers, sisters, what about wives of some of the older
:02:29. > :02:34.jockeys riding in the race? Jimmy Fortune's wife, Jan is now with
:02:34. > :02:41.Sonali Shah. I have the good fortune of being
:02:41. > :02:45.with the wife of Jimmy Fortune. Here is Jan and his two sons. We
:02:45. > :02:52.wand to -- want to know, what is it like being with the family of
:02:52. > :02:56.someone who is riding in the Derby? It is a very, very special day. We
:02:56. > :03:00.are delighted to be here. Can you watch the race? He will be
:03:00. > :03:06.fine. We will just watch the race and hope it works out.
:03:06. > :03:10.When you are at home and Jimmy has been in a race, when he calls you,
:03:10. > :03:16.do you know from the tone how it has gone? Definitely the tone. I
:03:16. > :03:21.say any winners, it is yes or no, but once he is home it is fine.
:03:21. > :03:25.Kieron, are you nervous watching your dad or proud? Nervous and
:03:25. > :03:31.proud. I can't imagine what he is feeling like at moment.
:03:31. > :03:34.You are excited for him? Yes, I am. It is a dream and it is kind of
:03:34. > :03:40.weird. How loud do you scream, Joe, when
:03:40. > :03:45.you dad is out there? Really loud. As loud as we can. Do you think
:03:45. > :03:51.that brings him a little bit of luck? It does, yes.
:03:51. > :03:55.Good luck to your dad later on. It is great talking to you. There is
:03:55. > :03:59.Jimmy watching them being bir viewed.
:03:59. > :04:04.-- interviewed. He is thinking, "Oh, no, what has she said?" We wish
:04:04. > :04:09.them well and hope that they have a terrific day out with the family. A
:04:09. > :04:16.great day to be here. So what does make the perfect jockey? What
:04:16. > :04:26.qualities do you need to come here and support the horse and be the
:04:26. > :04:41.
:04:41. > :04:47.best? What pandemics the perfect jockey? Someone that likes driving,
:04:47. > :04:51.someone that has no life, what so ever. Wait clean living, hard work,
:04:51. > :04:55.head down. Stay out of the nightclubs. Someone that is light,
:04:55. > :04:59.strong, with the right attitude for the job.
:04:59. > :05:04.White you need the balance, the knowledge, the feel, the hands, the
:05:04. > :05:12.coolness of the mind. You have to be as strong as you can, as fit as
:05:12. > :05:16.you can to win the title weight. Tactical awareness, nerves of steel.
:05:16. > :05:23.It is down to the jockey's confidence. Looking forward to
:05:23. > :05:26.getting better. Improving yourself. Obviously natural ability. You need
:05:27. > :05:30.an idea about the horses around you and to be aware of what is
:05:30. > :05:36.happening. You have to do your homework, to
:05:36. > :05:39.look at the races, to see what the pace is. You can prepare, but you
:05:39. > :05:44.never know what is going to go on out there.
:05:44. > :05:48.When the plan does not go to plan, then the plan B is the next one.
:05:48. > :05:53.The first job is to get on the horses, but you can have the best
:05:53. > :05:59.jockey in a Formula One race, but if he is driving a Formula Two car,
:05:59. > :06:03.it will not do him any good. Well, standing to my left are two
:06:03. > :06:08.jockeys, close to being perfect, William Buick and Jimmy Fortune. Of
:06:08. > :06:16.course, you are not perfect unless you have won the Derby. Bo both are
:06:16. > :06:21.looking foyer their first success. William Buick, John Gosden, does he
:06:21. > :06:26.give you every hope that your horse today can punt a big performance?
:06:26. > :06:31.think that he can. It has turned into a won-horse show with Camelot,
:06:31. > :06:35.but I think he will run his race, run well. I think that he will stay.
:06:35. > :06:40.Hopefully, he will be experienced enough to handle it all.
:06:40. > :06:44.Just, hopefully he will not be caught out by the undulations.
:06:44. > :06:49.This is your third ride in the Derby, are you feeling more
:06:49. > :06:54.comfortable in the scenario? fairness, it is my third ride, but
:06:54. > :06:58.I have had three good rides without being outstanding. It is nice to be
:06:58. > :07:03.able to ride in the Derby with a horse that has a worthy place in
:07:03. > :07:07.the race. Jimmy, your eighth ride in the
:07:07. > :07:12.Derby, is this horse one of the best you have come to sit on?
:07:12. > :07:15.Judging on so far, yes. A lot of people have made or
:07:15. > :07:19.brought his temperament into question, he can be playful, he can
:07:19. > :07:23.look a little awkward, on the way down to the start or before the
:07:23. > :07:27.race do you have concerns about that today? No, I don't. He is not
:07:27. > :07:32.a horse that worries. He does not get himself into a state. He does
:07:32. > :07:38.not sweat. He does nothing that gets himself too worked up. You
:07:38. > :07:43.know, everything he does he does as he is a little monkey, he is
:07:43. > :07:47.playful more than anything else. He is a Jack the Lad, but in no way is
:07:47. > :07:51.it going to affect his race in my opinion.
:07:51. > :08:00.A good friend of mine was saying that running the Derby here in

:34:13. > :34:23.went wrong there, he did not race well, but he has a lot of ability.
:34:23. > :34:31.And out of the same mare, she is also the mother of Val. His father
:34:31. > :34:36.bred him and bred Val as well. I have had a chat yesterday with
:34:36. > :34:40.Connexions, Johnny Murtagh suggests that the race in Dubai that Clare
:34:40. > :34:45.referred to, where he fell behind St Nicholas Abbey, it was the wrong
:34:45. > :34:50.race at the wrong time. They are expecting a bigger show for him
:34:50. > :34:55.today. Willie? Yes, obviously, Dubai does
:34:55. > :35:02.not really fit in with the British timing. You have to take your horse
:35:02. > :35:06.to Dubai either very, very early so as you can get acclimatised.
:35:06. > :35:11.Let's have a look at the odds-on favourite for the race, St Nicholas
:35:11. > :35:17.Abbey. He is about to get saddled up, so I will stay out of the way.
:35:17. > :35:21.How does he look to you, Willie? Fit! That's it? He is a marvellous
:35:21. > :35:28.animal. Look at him, his head is up in the air.
:35:28. > :35:33.Take us through what they are doing? The grey pad goes on first.
:35:33. > :35:38.It does not slip. Then the number cloth and then that great big
:35:38. > :35:44.saddle on. The saddle is as big as the palm of
:35:44. > :35:49.your hand?! Yes, the saddle weighs about 12 ounces, the girth weigh
:35:49. > :35:56.more than the saddle itself. He is a big lad, Joseph, about nine stone,
:35:56. > :36:00.so obviously he will not have a very big saddle. Under there is the
:36:00. > :36:06.non-slip saddle, the pad under the number cloth and there, the girth?
:36:06. > :36:13.On the inside is a bit of rubber, it has little squares on it, it
:36:13. > :36:18.also is hopefully non-slipping. It helps the sald from slipping.
:36:18. > :36:21.You could go back 40 years and see the jockeys falling off. That does
:36:21. > :36:27.not happen because of better technology and equipment, but you
:36:27. > :36:33.can see the horse. He is being saddled up there, he has his back
:36:33. > :36:38.legs out behind him, very, very relaxed indeed. He has had this
:36:38. > :36:42.done many times before. He has been all over the world, obviously he's
:36:42. > :36:48.been on a plane this morning, but he is a very, very intelligent type
:36:48. > :36:53.of horse. You can see him looking back there, "Oops, are you putting
:36:53. > :36:58.that saddle on too tight?" Everything is done to perfection?
:36:58. > :37:03.Yes, everybody does the same thing. I was going to ask you, would there
:37:03. > :37:07.be anything in the Aidan O'Brien route yeen that you have seen that
:37:07. > :37:12.would be different from -- routine that you have seen that is
:37:12. > :37:19.different from any of the other trainers? No, but that he does it
:37:19. > :37:23.out in the open like this. His horses are so well behaved. Other
:37:23. > :37:29.trainers take them into boxs with sides on them as some of them are
:37:29. > :37:33.difficult, edgy. You like them in a confined space to keep them quiet
:37:33. > :37:39.to keep the saddle on. But sometimes the boxes are warm?
:37:39. > :37:44.Yes, but they rattle too, but Aidan seems to be able to get his horses
:37:44. > :37:48.to stand. He must be doing something at home to keep them as
:37:48. > :37:54.relaxed as they are. Look at that horse? He is like a police horse,
:37:54. > :37:59.isn't he? No negatives there. And also watching the horses
:37:59. > :38:04.closely, the Queen. Making her inspections. She will take notes in
:38:04. > :38:07.her race card and see if her eye is correct, as when she sees the
:38:07. > :38:12.horses canter to the start and whether they do themselves justice
:38:12. > :38:17.and run up to the full capability of their form. You can see her
:38:17. > :38:22.looking so closely at these horses. There are lovely animals here. All
:38:22. > :38:27.of them older horses going up to six years old, thus more dwoched
:38:27. > :38:34.than some of the other -- developed than some of the other horses.
:38:34. > :38:37.Some of the horses are owned in syndicates, but Brian has a
:38:37. > :38:43.particular interest. Not only do you own the horse, you bred him and
:38:43. > :38:48.your son trains him? Furthermore, my daughter is in, no, she's not in
:38:48. > :38:58.this indicate. You did not let her?! Yes, very
:38:58. > :38:59.
:38:59. > :39:07.exciting! I am related to Harris Tweed. Related to Vwo.
:39:07. > :39:17.Related to Frog. Bought by me, 16,000 guineas on a whim.
:39:17. > :39:18.
:39:18. > :39:24.Why did you call her Frog? She is French-bred! This horse has a
:39:24. > :39:29.lovely name in Beaten Up. You must think this is going to be a tough
:39:29. > :39:34.race with Beaten Up? He looks the best I have seen him. He is
:39:34. > :39:41.overweight by seven kilos, I said I was pleased. I think he will run a
:39:41. > :39:46.big race, provided we get a good run. He's going to kick on. The
:39:46. > :39:51.ones that have led have on the whole won this week.
:39:51. > :39:55.They have. You should get a decent pace set by
:39:55. > :40:00.Robin Hood. I will let you get your position.
:40:00. > :40:09.Thank you, madam. He is the only person that calls me
:40:09. > :40:14.madam, it must be said! The horses are to make their way out on to the
:40:14. > :40:19.course. They will parade down to the start, all six of them. A small
:40:19. > :40:26.field for this. Perhaps some of them scared off by the horses such
:40:26. > :40:36.as St Nicholas Abbey. Red Cadeaux it is, who looks as if
:40:36. > :40:47.
:40:47. > :40:53.he is to lead out the runners. Well, this Red Cadeaux has been a
:40:53. > :40:59.sensational horse. He went over to the Melbourne Cup and nearly won it.
:40:59. > :41:06.He was beaten in a photo finish. Since then he has won the Yorkshire
:41:06. > :41:12.Cup. Brian Haggis saying he has never seen him looking better. Here
:41:12. > :41:17.we see the pacemaker, Robin Hood. Seamie Heffernan is riding him.
:41:17. > :41:24.He is checking that there is a lead down to the start. Joseph deciding
:41:24. > :41:28.to do his thing, taking St Nicholas Abbey over to the far rail. Pat
:41:28. > :41:34.Keating and Aidan O'Brien alongside the talented horse. They thought he
:41:34. > :41:38.would be the Derby horse, never got to run in the race after an
:41:38. > :41:42.unsuccessful 2,000 Guineas, we will see what shapes up for him as a
:41:42. > :41:47.five-year-old now. He is quite a difficult horse to ride. He has a
:41:47. > :41:55.high head carriage, but Joseph, I felt that Joseph O'Brien came of
:41:55. > :41:58.age on this horse in the Breeder's Cup Turf. The runners making their
:41:58. > :42:03.way down to the start for the Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup. We
:42:03. > :42:09.will catch up with them once they have gotten around Tattenham Corner.
:42:09. > :42:14.We will have a closer look and see how they are handling it all in
:42:14. > :42:17.terms of the occasion. That gives time to reflect on last year's
:42:17. > :42:21.time to reflect on last year's dramatic Derby win for Pour Moi.
:42:22. > :42:24.Well, the Carlton House story was a tremendous occasion right the way
:42:24. > :42:28.through. The Queen is at the centre of the
:42:28. > :42:33.story. She owns the favourite, Carlton House.
:42:33. > :42:39.The buzz was hugely exciting. Hundreds of thousands here at Epsom
:42:39. > :42:47.and millions around the country and around the world are hoping to send
:42:47. > :42:52.her victorious, happy and glorious. Everybody would love to be putting
:42:52. > :42:55.on Ryan Moore's boots today. It a class race a class line-up,
:42:55. > :43:01.let's hope that we have a classic result.
:43:01. > :43:08.It was a huge build-up. He is a horse in the news. He is a
:43:08. > :43:13.Derby favourite. Everyone wants this horse to win for Her Majesty.
:43:13. > :43:20.He didn't have a greater start. She was at Tattenham Corner.
:43:20. > :43:27.COMMENTATOR: The lead has gotten away on Tattenham Corner. They are
:43:27. > :43:32.giving chase. Here comes Carlton House, Ryan Moore down the outside.
:43:32. > :43:36.Here is Carlton House, called on for the final furlong. With 100
:43:36. > :43:42.yards to go. Carlton House! Pour Moi is
:43:42. > :43:52.swimming! Trough Beach is holding Pour Moi is the winner. Pour Moi
:43:52. > :43:55.
:43:55. > :44:02.Sadly the horse finished third and had some issues on the way. He lost
:44:02. > :44:06.a shoe. But that's racing, and the Queen will accept it with
:44:06. > :44:16.tremendous grace of course. And steadfastly will continue to on to
:44:16. > :44:21.
:44:21. > :44:28.We've seen Carlton House twice since this day 12 months ago. He
:44:28. > :44:33.went to Ireland and came fourth in the Irish Derby.
:44:33. > :44:41.He has the scarlet sleeves of the Queen.
:44:41. > :44:44.On Thursday he won at Sandown. His trainer, Sir Michael Stoute, said
:44:44. > :44:49.he will go to Royal Ascot but will stick at the quarter mile and a
:44:49. > :44:53.quarter trip and run in the Prince of Wales Stakes, which is the
:44:53. > :44:58.richest race of the meeting this year. Before we move on to the
:44:58. > :45:06.Coronation Cup, the runners are arriving at the porks I have Paul
:45:06. > :45:12.Hanagan with me, who is riding Mickdaam. Are you excited? Yes.
:45:12. > :45:18.almost went over the rails. I was almost pushed over the rails. But
:45:18. > :45:22.that's Epsom for you. Mickdaam here winning at Chester, a narrow
:45:22. > :45:27.victory. The ground will be different for him. Different and
:45:27. > :45:33.better for him. He is a nice-moving horse. He's in good form. He gets
:45:33. > :45:38.the trip well. I'm hopeful really. He works well every day at Richard
:45:38. > :45:42.Fahey's. We are all hopeful. It is ironic that you have ridden for a
:45:42. > :45:48.long time, but don't any more, because you have one of the best
:45:48. > :45:54.racing jobs for a jockey in the game, and now you are back with
:45:54. > :45:59.Richard in the Derby. Yes, I'm delighted to get my first ride for
:45:59. > :46:05.Richard. He's been so good for me. I'm delighted. We wish you and him
:46:05. > :46:15.the best of luck. Thank you. This Coronation Cup seeps St
:46:15. > :46:25.
:46:25. > :46:28.meaty doubles going on. This gives us the perfect
:46:28. > :46:33.opportunity to experience the distance and the course of the
:46:33. > :46:38.Derby. It is exactly the same for the Coronation Cup. A mile-and-a-
:46:38. > :46:46.half. We zoom down there. They come out of the stalls, a right-hand
:46:46. > :46:52.kink in the horse. Up the hill, left hand, downhill, Tattenham
:46:52. > :46:55.Corner, and the long straight with the camber, which tests the horse,
:46:55. > :47:02.particularly its balance. St Nicholas Abbey won last year
:47:02. > :47:11.wearing down Midday. He had gone for home a long way out.
:47:11. > :47:15.Midday was in front then. A little too soon. But St Nicholas Abbey
:47:15. > :47:20.benefited. Ryan Moore rode him and had to make him do it. He's a horse
:47:20. > :47:24.that would stay a lot further than a mile-and-a-half. Stamina is his
:47:24. > :47:30.thing. In fact he is a horse possibly next year, if they keep
:47:30. > :47:38.him in training, if they wanted to, they could go for the Gold Cup.
:47:38. > :47:44.could be their next Yeates. Flame And Glory went wrong this,
:47:44. > :47:52.could be that type of animal, as he has stamina, plenty of it. He's a
:47:52. > :47:56.very good racehorse. He looks a lot lighter. He ran not so long ago at
:47:56. > :48:01.the Curragh. And Joseph got stick for his ride. He was confident that
:48:01. > :48:09.day. He was expecting horses to stop in front of him. He's got very
:48:09. > :48:14.warm, St Nicholas Abbey. He does do. This he did this in the paddock.
:48:14. > :48:18.They get themselves quite worried and wound up, but my word they have
:48:18. > :48:22.talent. St Nicholas Abbey is the hot favourite to win this prize for
:48:22. > :48:31.the second year in a row. Amongst the opposition, we spoke to the
:48:31. > :48:36.owner and breeder of this has, Brian Haggas. Beaten Up looked
:48:36. > :48:42.really well in the paddock. He did look really well. Very good in his
:48:42. > :48:47.skin. Very good with himself. This family, they were very tough and
:48:47. > :48:54.very, very talented as well. There he is getting the blindfold put on
:48:54. > :49:00.them. -- put on him. This is so they can't see the stalls. Some
:49:00. > :49:06.horses don't like to go into things above their heads. A hood is very
:49:06. > :49:12.good to get horses into the stalls nice and quietly.
:49:12. > :49:17.A look at Masked Marvel, who won the St Leger last season. Went to
:49:17. > :49:21.the Arc. Taimed off there. Didn't run well in the Jockey Club Stakes,
:49:21. > :49:26.but he will have progressed throughout the year. It may be that
:49:27. > :49:31.it happens today. Red Cadeaux, what a fabulous servant he's been St
:49:31. > :49:38.Nicholas Abbey is the last one to go forward. Let's join Grath Grath
:49:38. > :49:43.gravel. -- Jim McGrath.
:49:43. > :49:49.They're off! And away to a good start in the Coronation Cup. In the
:49:50. > :49:56.centre Beaten Up restrained. Robin Hood, the pacemaker, going on as
:49:56. > :50:02.expected. Slling down from Masked Marvel. Quest For Success is --
:50:02. > :50:06.settling down from Masked Marvel. Quest For Success to Masked Marvel
:50:06. > :50:11.and then Red Cadeaux. Towards the right side of the track. He cut to
:50:11. > :50:15.the corner and head to the left side. The leader is Robin Hood.
:50:15. > :50:19.Leads by three to four lengths. Setting a good pace from Masked
:50:19. > :50:26.Marvel in second. Third is Quest For Success and fourth is Beaten Up.
:50:26. > :50:31.Not fully settled yesterday. They are followed by St Nicholas Abbey.
:50:31. > :50:34.Three lengths away, the Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux, all the
:50:35. > :50:41.time climbing. It is Robin Hood by four lengths to in second Masked
:50:41. > :50:45.Marvel. Third is Quest For Success, followed by Beaten Up, who is
:50:45. > :50:48.behind Quest For Success. They are followed by St Nicholas Abbey.
:50:48. > :50:52.Spotting his pacemaker about ten lengths at this stage. Red Cadeaux
:50:52. > :50:58.is still at the tail of the field. As they race up towards the highest
:50:58. > :51:02.point of the course. Now to free- wheel down Tattenham Corner, and
:51:02. > :51:07.Robin Hood by five lengths to Masked Marvel in second. Then in
:51:07. > :51:12.third is the white-capped Quest For Success. Two lengths away is Beaten
:51:12. > :51:16.Up followed by Red Cadeaux, moving through on the inside to St
:51:16. > :51:21.Nicholas Abbey, who is held up at the rear and still riding a
:51:21. > :51:25.confident race at the back is Joseph O'Brien. They race to
:51:25. > :51:29.Tattenham Corner and Robin Hood is about eight lengths in front,
:51:29. > :51:33.setting a real gallop from Masked Marvel in second. In third is Quest
:51:33. > :51:37.For Success. Now starting to ease to the outside. St Nicholas Abbey
:51:37. > :51:42.and he is gathering in his pace make quickly from Beaten Up. A gap
:51:42. > :51:46.to Red Cadeaux. Into the home straight. He's there in two bounds
:51:46. > :51:51.O'Brien. On the inside St Nicholas Abbey has raced up to take the lead
:51:51. > :51:54.from Masked Marvel. Robin Hood in his stride. Further back is Quest
:51:54. > :51:58.For Success. Red Cadeaux is starting to run on very well. St
:51:58. > :52:01.Nicholas Abbey is leader with just o'er a furlong to go. He is four
:52:01. > :52:05.lengths in front of Masked Marvel. Red Cadeaux running into third and
:52:05. > :52:10.then Quest For Success. But as they race up now towards the line, it is
:52:10. > :52:14.St Nicholas Abbey, who is going to make it back to back wins in the
:52:14. > :52:17.Coronation Cup. The Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup won by St Nicholas
:52:17. > :52:22.Abbey. Red Cadeaux a really good run in second. This third Masked
:52:22. > :52:30.Marvel. Followed in fourth by Quest For Success, and a long gap to
:52:30. > :52:35.Beaten Up, and last is Robin Hood. The winner is number six, St
:52:35. > :52:40.Nicholas Abbey. Another win in this Group 1 Coronation Cup. This time
:52:40. > :52:43.at odds of 11-8 on. He was even money last year. Second is number
:52:43. > :52:49.four, Red Cadeaux, Ryan Moore. Third is Masked Marvel, William
:52:49. > :52:55.Buick. And for the is number three, Quest For Success, ridden by --
:52:55. > :52:59.Quest For Success I should say, ridden by Kieren Fallon. There is
:52:59. > :53:08.St Nicholas Abbey. Joseph O'Brien rode the most confident of races
:53:08. > :53:14.there. He was not at all put off by his experience at the Curragh last
:53:14. > :53:20.time, when he did leave that pacemaker, let him get away. But
:53:20. > :53:26.there he is striding up towards the line. St Nicholas Abbey has gone on
:53:26. > :53:34.to win it in very comfortable style. Red Cadeaux in second. Just looking
:53:34. > :53:39.to see if Joseph O'Brien has a whip there. One of our keen observers
:53:39. > :53:46.says he's dropped it. There is Red Cadeaux. That was an excellent run
:53:46. > :53:52.in second. In third was Masked Marvel. In fourth was Quest For
:53:52. > :53:59.Success. Still a couple more to come. Fifth was Beaten Up and sixth
:53:59. > :54:06.was the pacemaker, Robin Hood. There is Joseph O'Brien. The whip
:54:06. > :54:11.in the left hand. There it is. The hip's gone there. You can see from
:54:11. > :54:16.his right hand I should say, just slipping out there. Didn't need it
:54:16. > :54:24.there. The distances were four-and- a-half lengths and three and a
:54:24. > :54:31.quarter lengths. 2.34.52 the time. What a performance from St St. Came
:54:31. > :54:38.out cruising, whooshed past them all. Joseph just needed to sit
:54:38. > :54:46.there and steer. He emulates War San who did it for Clive Bitton in
:54:46. > :54:50.2003. This tongue is lolling out. You wonder what might have been in
:54:50. > :54:56.this three-year-old's career, if he had not run so poorly in the 2000
:54:56. > :55:02.Guineas. Aidan O'Brien admits he was rushing him for that. The only
:55:02. > :55:08.thing this horse lacks is speed. He's got stamina in abundance.
:55:08. > :55:14.when he quickened there... He's had a pacemaker and they've gone a nice
:55:14. > :55:19.gallop. The horses are started to get tired. That's not speed, that's
:55:19. > :55:25.pure class over this distance. Beaten Up was desperately
:55:26. > :55:29.disappointing. Didn't get into it aloff. Ignored the pacemaker, so
:55:29. > :55:35.effectively Masked Marvel was making the running. He beat the
:55:35. > :55:42.good horse as long, long way. APPLAUSE
:55:42. > :55:51.That time incidentally was 0.48 seconds faster than the Racing Post
:55:51. > :55:56.standard. It was still three and a fifth
:55:56. > :56:06.seconds outside Workforce's record set in the Derby in 2010. This is a
:56:06. > :56:08.
:56:08. > :56:15.horse who really did fall apart two years ago when he was going for the
:56:15. > :56:20.Guineas. He just didn't, he wasn't able to stand it we didn't see much
:56:20. > :56:25.of him that have for a long time, but this has been a great training
:56:25. > :56:32.performance for Aidan O'Brien. He always said the horse was a top
:56:32. > :56:39.horse, and blamed himself for that three-year-old campaign. There he
:56:39. > :56:45.is and Rishi is with Joseph O'Brien. It all looked easy for you today,
:56:45. > :56:50.Joseph, the way he travelled and picked up. He looked like he is in
:56:50. > :56:56.top gear at the moment. When he goes to sleep early in his races he
:56:56. > :57:01.is a special horse. He has a lot of abit. He is back to his old form.
:57:01. > :57:07.Were you surprised at how easily he got to the front? He picked up a
:57:07. > :57:13.bit and I didn't want to disappoint him. I let him go forward. When he
:57:13. > :57:17.relaxes and picks up like that... Does this give you more confidence

:59:10. > :59:15.that was as good as you are going to get. He does seem to be
:59:15. > :59:20.improving. Although he gets himself wound up before hand, it doesn't

:59:24. > :59:28.But it was procession really. Very impressive. You are wearing the
:59:28. > :59:32.purple and white tie, your colours. This could be the biggest difficult

:00:48. > :00:53.It was probably 100 yards or so earlier than what Joseph O'Brien
:00:53. > :00:58.wanted. He did not want to disappoint the horse. The horse was
:00:58. > :01:07.charging, he had to let him stride on. He has done that very well.
:01:07. > :01:12.It was a performance, you would have to say, a performance fit for

:02:45. > :02:50.And what about the young man on board? He is just 19 years old. He
:02:50. > :02:58.has nerves of steel. He has incredible talent. He is Joseph

:03:04. > :03:08.will link up with the odds-on favourite, Camelot in the Investec
:03:08. > :03:11.Derby, still to come at 4.00pm. For now, they celebrate success in the

:03:14. > :03:24.associated with St Nicholas Abbey who wins this race for the second
:03:24. > :03:28.year running! So, a fairly clean running of this Diamond Jubilee
:03:28. > :03:34.Coronation Cup. Not so many problems on the way around. A
:03:34. > :03:39.couple of little incidences in the race. The pacemaker, Robin Hood
:03:39. > :03:45.with the sort red visor on. He comes out of the stalls and slips
:03:45. > :03:50.and does not help the horse next to him. It puts him off there? Yes,
:03:50. > :03:55.Johnny Murtagh gets het up. You can see him looking across. He wants
:03:55. > :04:02.someone else to come and make the pace. That he that Is that the

:04:06. > :04:10.He manages just to get up and do the running.
:04:10. > :04:15.Here is a closer look. Here is Red Cadeaux. He is a horse that won
:04:15. > :04:19.over a furlong the last time. He won over a mile and three quarters.
:04:19. > :04:24.He has the brilliant run being second in the Melbourne Cup.
:04:25. > :04:30.He is catching St Nicholas Abbey all the way to the line.
:04:30. > :04:35.It was a very eye-catching run. It will be trk to see where they go

:04:40. > :04:43.It is one thing, Aidan O'Brien likes his horses to do it smoothly,
:04:43. > :04:53.you don't get much more smoother than this.

:05:01. > :05:05.And Masked Marvel who finished in third place, although he had run in
:05:05. > :05:13.the Derby last year, he finished eighth, this not the track for him.
:05:13. > :05:17.Likely to go to Royal Ascot. We could see him there in two weeks'
:05:17. > :05:26.time, they are thinking about aiming him at the St Leger in
:05:26. > :05:29.Ireland at the Curragh in September. And Anthony Cane, the chairman of
:05:29. > :05:32.Epsom Racecourse took the opportunity while the Queen was

:05:37. > :05:41.giving her an album of Derby winners and incidences over the
:05:41. > :05:45.years. The Queen is a great historian and will absolutely love
:05:45. > :05:50.this and study it in detail. A fabulous gift to mark the Diamond
:05:50. > :05:54.Jubilee. I suspect that Anthony will have to
:05:54. > :05:59.hang on to it to ensure it is delivered later to Buckingham

:06:08. > :06:13.A real superstar horse, St Nicholas Abbey, great to see him win in such

:06:29. > :06:33.looking down. It has warmed up, the sun is just starting to come out.
:06:33. > :06:43.It really is now a beautiful day, as it should be on Derby Day. This
:06:43. > :06:50.
:06:50. > :06:54.The Red Devils parachuted down. The Queen arriving at the head of the
:06:54. > :07:02.Royal Procession and the first race went to one of the greatest

:07:12. > :07:16.footballer and hugely successful flat racing, getting up by the
:07:16. > :07:19.narrowest of margins. The Queen made her way to the paddock to
:07:19. > :07:25.examine the six runners for the Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup.
:07:25. > :07:34.What a winner we saw. He stuck his tongue out to the rest, St Nicholas

:07:39. > :07:49.Bonfire, he is trained by my brother, Andrew.
:07:49. > :07:56.That is Lee -Anne, she does the work at home on Bonfire. He is not
:07:56. > :08:02.the easiest horse. He has a mind of his own, but it is a good excuse to
:08:02. > :08:12.go to the stables to find out about the horse who could upset Camelot.
:08:12. > :08:16.
:08:17. > :08:20.Could it be Bonfire? My Grandfather, Ian, who we call Grumpy, trained a

:08:27. > :08:30.in 18... 18... 190... 1... No, 1971! Mill Reef's the winner!
:08:30. > :08:34.That's my daddy. He has a horse running in the Derby called Bonfire.
:08:34. > :08:38.He's a neck in front and Bonfire wins the Dandy by under a length.
:08:38. > :08:46.This is my aunty Clare whose presenting Derby Day for the Derby.
:08:46. > :08:53.I am. What's going to happen on Derby Day, do you think? I think
:08:53. > :08:57.Bonfire's going to win the Derby. hope you're right. What did JJ say
:08:57. > :09:00.to you the other day? He said to me, "Daddy, you know if you really want
:09:00. > :09:04.Bonfire to win the Derby, you should let Grumpy train him because
:09:04. > :09:11.he's won a Derby." I said, "OK." Thanks for the vote of confidence
:09:11. > :09:14.from my five-year-old son. This is where I grew up. I used to come up
:09:14. > :09:22.here on any horse I was riding whenever I could, just fantastic
:09:22. > :09:28.space. Real old downland turf so, perfect for training horses.
:09:28. > :09:31.There's an incredible amount of history in this place. It was my
:09:31. > :09:36.home, so you slightly take it for granted, but this was purpose-built
:09:36. > :09:46.as a training stable. Nine Derby winners have already come out of
:09:46. > :09:46.
:09:46. > :09:49.one of these old yards. 1971, I know it well only because you've
:09:49. > :09:54.told me enough times recently, that you were born in that year! That
:09:54. > :09:58.was the second-best thing that happened that year! Thanks! You
:09:58. > :10:01.genuinely, you wouldn't know that, would you? If somebody said what
:10:01. > :10:04.happened in 1971, you would have gone through everything that Mill
:10:04. > :10:08.Reef did and you wouldn't have known that your first child was
:10:08. > :10:18.born? Yes. I said to you what happened in 1972, what would you
:10:18. > :10:19.
:10:19. > :10:24.say? Mill Reef broke a leg. Do you know what else? Happened in 1972?
:10:24. > :10:27.He wasn't born, was he? Yes, he was! I think that is a perfect
:10:27. > :10:32.illustration of how Mill Reef has dominated our life! What do you
:10:32. > :10:35.think it was about Mill Reef that made him so special? I think there
:10:35. > :10:39.were two great qualities. One was his temperament, which was
:10:39. > :10:46.absolutely amazing. And of course his way of moving was so special, I
:10:46. > :10:49.have never seen another horse move like that. These are the colours
:10:49. > :10:53.Mill Reef carried in the Derby, although he did not have the Lycra
:10:53. > :10:57.ones, he had silk ones. Mr Mellon's colours. These are the Queen
:10:57. > :11:00.Mother's colours, the Queen's colours. She had horses with my
:11:00. > :11:09.father, with my grandfather and now does with my brother. Those were
:11:09. > :11:11.Border Arrow's colours. He finished third in the Derby and these are
:11:12. > :11:15.the colours of Bonfire, who, hopefully, will finish better than
:11:15. > :11:18.third, who knows? So this is him. He looks pretty well, doesn't he?
:11:19. > :11:22.Still a couple of kilos to put back on after York, but he looks really
:11:22. > :11:28.well in his skin. Appetite's good. He's doing alright with his hay?
:11:28. > :11:32.Good. $YELLOW Perfect. I was about seven-years-old when my brother
:11:32. > :11:37.first told me that he was going to train racehorses. This is us on our
:11:37. > :11:40.ponies with grandma. This is Andrew. He said he was going to be a
:11:40. > :11:48.trainer, I thought I better find something else to do. How would you
:11:48. > :11:53.describe Bonfire as a character? Complex at times. He's got his own
:11:53. > :12:01.idea on things, for sure. When he first started with him early this
:12:02. > :12:05.year he was a real handful. He's a talent and he knows it. At the end
:12:05. > :12:11.of the day, the horse deserves to be there, he has a great chance if
:12:11. > :12:14.he stays. As long as the horse sweats his race I will be delighted.
:12:14. > :12:18.It's the Derby, you know, it's a big deal. So it's just lovely for
:12:18. > :12:21.us all to be a player. So, I hope you've worked out what you're, how
:12:21. > :12:24.you'll behave if he happens to win it? $$WHITEI think not go near any
:12:24. > :12:34.of you, is probably the only answer, just hand the microphone to
:12:34. > :12:38.
:12:38. > :12:44.I've been asked by so many people what will you do if your brother
:12:44. > :12:50.wins the Derby. The reason they ask, the first year Andrew was training,
:12:50. > :12:56.we were doing the coverage, Sue Barker was up here on the podium,
:12:56. > :13:05.as the race was being run, I was whacking your back. Poor will ie
:13:05. > :13:11.was covered in bruises. This is what happened! Come on!
:13:11. > :13:14.Well done. Sorry, I'm meant to say something.
:13:14. > :13:24.I can't speak. I'm speechless.
:13:24. > :13:29.
:13:29. > :13:36.Can't speak. Neither can I. Wonderful.
:13:37. > :13:40.A bit hopeless at the moment. It was wonderful. I know, but that
:13:40. > :13:45.officially goes down as the worst winning interview ever and I will,
:13:45. > :13:48.I hope, I'm in the position in the very fortunate position to try and
:13:48. > :13:52.find the right words this time around. The chances are it won't
:13:52. > :14:00.happen. You are more professional now, aren't you? No, I'm just
:14:00. > :14:05.practising, trying not to with so emotional -- not not to be so
:14:05. > :14:09.emotional. Mill Reef came along as my brother was born. Nine in that
:14:09. > :14:13.yard, seven trained by John Porter, one trained by dad and an true
:14:13. > :14:19.maybe with the tenth from Park House. The other interesting fact
:14:19. > :14:26.about Bonfire and Camelot is both were brought up in the same paddock
:14:26. > :14:36.at the stud seven miles away from us. Vow was there. If you zoom
:14:36. > :14:38.
:14:38. > :14:43.along, you go past Watership Down Stud and Bonfire is trained at
:14:44. > :14:47.Kingsclere. It's an extraordinary coincidence but the yand expands
:14:47. > :14:52.all the time -- yard expands all the time. It's like a city. Doesn't
:14:52. > :15:02.feel like that when you are on the downs. Bonfire, we talk about his
:15:02. > :15:10.
:15:10. > :15:15.temperament, he will be saddled in the stables will Minimise Risk.
:15:15. > :15:19.We'll find out whether he has the temperament, whether he can deal
:15:19. > :15:24.with preliminaries and whether he's good enough to beat Camelot and
:15:25. > :15:30.Astrology and the other nine runners in the Investec Derby.
:15:30. > :15:34.Could be huge. You are getting nervous already. I'm excited and I
:15:34. > :15:37.think if you can't get excited when your brother has a rider in the
:15:37. > :15:41.Derby, what would be the point saying, I don't really mind, of
:15:41. > :15:47.course I do! You are working for the BBC! I know! But this could be
:15:48. > :15:52.the greatest day of my racing life! Anyway this is not the point...
:15:52. > :15:57.Enjoy it. I will. It's part of the story, I hope this gets people
:15:57. > :16:00.interested as well. We have an odds on favourite and a gorgeous day.
:16:00. > :16:03.The wind has dropped completely. For the first day of the Diamond
:16:03. > :16:08.Jubilee which gives us a chance to enjoy the successs that the Queen
:16:08. > :16:18.has enjoyed and the people who've ridden and train ford her by Royal

:16:21. > :16:28.I've been very blessed to be able to ride for her. To be in her
:16:28. > :16:32.company, it's a privilege to be in the races when she's there. I was
:16:32. > :16:36.very nervous going out to meet her for the first time but she put me
:16:36. > :16:40.at ease pleadly. She has a sparkle in her eyes when watching the
:16:40. > :16:47.horses around the paddock and really loves her racing. I enjoyed
:16:47. > :16:51.it immensely putting the colours on, felt very proud immediately.
:16:51. > :16:57.They're unique. You are wearing tradition, Royal and glamour and
:16:57. > :17:01.it's something that you never forget all your life. It was nice
:17:01. > :17:06.to ride a winner for her. Her face would beam and it made you feel
:17:06. > :17:11.good. When I won the race and was walking back in and she was there,
:17:12. > :17:19.it was just, you know, I can't believe this is actually happening.
:17:20. > :17:25.Momentary, number four is first. That was a special day. Free Agent,
:17:25. > :17:35.a Royal winner. The BBC got a great shot of her in the Royal Box.

:17:37. > :17:41.Everyone came out of the grandstand I've been joined bid someone who's
:17:41. > :17:44.very qualified to know about the Queen because Julian, author and
:17:44. > :17:48.journalist has written a book called Her Majesty's Pleasure, what
:17:48. > :17:53.inspired you to do that? It's been a long time since a book of this

:17:56. > :18:01.and it's the Jubilee year and we thought it was about time the
:18:01. > :18:05.Queen's interest in racing was chronicled again. Did it take you
:18:05. > :18:10.long? About 14-15 months, a lot of research, a lot of interviews,
:18:10. > :18:14.talking to all sorts of people who were helpful with it. What did you
:18:14. > :18:18.learn yourself? How passionate the Queen is and how much she knows.
:18:18. > :18:22.John Warren, her racing manager, is one of the renowned judges and a

:18:32. > :18:36.favourite in Camelot. But tell an anecdote - hold on, we have got the
:18:36. > :18:41.prices actually before we do that - what do you fancy? I think it's a
:18:41. > :18:46.one horse race, I think Camelot will win with a real show of
:18:46. > :18:49.strength. He won the Guineas over a trip that was way too short for him,
:18:49. > :18:55.in my opinion and I can't see anything else troubling him today.
:18:55. > :18:58.Back to the anecdote, what are they, please? The one I enjoyed
:18:58. > :19:01.particularly was when the Queen watched jockeys and stable lads
:19:01. > :19:05.ride work and it all went wrong, there was a kerfuffle and the lads

:19:10. > :19:14.imaginable without knowing the Queen was there and of course, huge
:19:14. > :19:18.embarrassment when they realised she turned round to them and said,
:19:18. > :19:22.don't forget that I've been marryed to a sailor most of my life. This
:19:22. > :19:26.is the one I like particularly, go on? It concerns a young Clare,
:19:26. > :19:30.because it's a little known fact she was given her first podium by

:19:35. > :19:39.line and the Queen patted it and said to Clare, this pony must be 24
:19:39. > :19:42.now and Clare said, no, she's 25 and the Queen rooked at her and
:19:42. > :19:46.said, I think you will probably find it is 24, Clare, no, it's 25!
:19:46. > :19:54.That was Clare off to a tee from a very young age, strident and
:19:54. > :19:59.committed in her opinions. Good luck with your book. Miss Balding,
:19:59. > :20:08.arguing with the Queen, surely not! You should have heard what my
:20:08. > :20:11.father said to me that day. How old were you then? Five or six maybe.
:20:11. > :20:21.were you then? Five or six maybe. Only little like my nephews.
:20:21. > :20:22.
:20:22. > :20:30.Biggest field of the day so far, 20 runners for this Investec Bank Dash.
:20:30. > :20:40.The record time was set by Lester Pigott. This race is the equine
:20:40. > :20:54.
:20:54. > :21:04.back! Bolt is back! Just imagine that taking place, Usain Bolt

:21:04. > :21:54.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds
:21:54. > :22:00.running downhill. That's exactly for a while. This is definitely a
:22:00. > :22:10.case of blink and you miss it, fastest five furlong in the world
:22:10. > :22:39.
:22:40. > :22:46.and it's Bear Behind and Catfish Bear Behind, he Tweeted this
:22:46. > :22:53.morning, watch my Bear Behind. at Musselburgh and was disqualified
:22:53. > :22:58.there. He'd just won the race but he's a very fast horse indeed. You
:22:58. > :23:04.would have to think that Richard Kingscote will have a great chance.
:23:04. > :23:14.He's got the draw. The punters think he's got a great chance

:23:15. > :23:19.because he's 7-1 co-favourite. is Catfish for Brian Meehan and
:23:20. > :23:24.Mickael Barzalona. Catfish was a winner at Goodwood last July.
:23:24. > :23:27.That's a similar downhill course. Then he was runner-up at York a
:23:27. > :23:37.week ago with this jockey. More unexposed than some in the field
:23:37. > :24:06.
:24:06. > :24:10.but is improving. He could just yard at this meeting. Just selected
:24:11. > :24:20.ones actually. We've only got four horses to go, Clare. Let's join Jim.
:24:21. > :24:26.
:24:26. > :24:33.It will be over in a flash! There's the champion jockey, Paul Hanagan.
:24:33. > :24:38.A fine jockey he is too. His first ride in the Derby on Mickdaam
:24:39. > :24:48.coming up at 4 o'clock. Catfish went to post very early. The last
:24:49. > :24:49.
:24:49. > :24:52.one to be installed. They are just about ready. Stand by. They are
:24:52. > :24:58.running! On the stands rail one of the first
:24:58. > :25:03.away is Bear Behind. Sohraab is up there. Going fast too is Judge 'n
:25:03. > :25:09.Jury. Wider out in the early stages is Captain Dunne and Stone Of Folca.
:25:10. > :25:16.On the far side that is. Captain Dunne going on from Stone Of Folca.
:25:16. > :25:23.Taajub. Judge 'n Jury. Followed further back in the field by
:25:24. > :25:31.Catfish, Long Awaited. Followed by Oor Jock on the far side. Living It
:25:31. > :25:35.Large. Stone Of Folca just the leader, forcing through Taajub.
:25:35. > :25:41.Followed further back by Desert Law. Stone Of Folca has kicked clear
:25:41. > :25:45.with about 100 yards left to go. Desert Law. Stone Of Folca in front.
:25:45. > :25:50.Stone Of Folca got there from Desert Law followed by Catfish.
:25:50. > :25:57.Just behind them, Taajub and Confessional and followed next by
:25:57. > :26:02.Jamesway and further back then Vocational. Stone Of Folca, Luke
:26:02. > :26:07.Morris trained by John Best has got the money here and there as the
:26:07. > :26:12.trainer. There is the horse, number 9, Stone Of Folca, always been well
:26:12. > :26:19.considered, well regarded by his yard, but just lost his way a bit
:26:19. > :26:26.last year. Was a very, very smart juvenile. Number 9, Stone Of Folca,
:26:26. > :26:33.is the oneer. Desert Law second, Catfish next and fourth Number 11,
:26:33. > :26:38.Taajub. From stall 2, unbelievable, how did he get there!? Absolutely.
:26:38. > :26:42.We knew he was a good horse last year, but to do it here, that's
:26:42. > :26:48.just unreal. That is the original self-interview. There he is over
:26:48. > :26:53.the line, Stone Of Folca has won it. And won it well. Second Desert Law,
:26:53. > :26:59.Health and Safety run out of his skin here. Third was 15, katd fish,
:26:59. > :27:04.fourth was Taajub, then Confessional -- Catfish. Then
:27:04. > :27:14.Jamesway, number 19. York Glory with the hood on the far side.
:27:14. > :27:16.
:27:16. > :27:26.Vocational in the centre Red Cap. Need side is Captain Dunne. Sohraab.
:27:26. > :27:30.
:27:30. > :27:34.Long Awaited. In the centre is Courageous. Diamond Charley. Just
:27:34. > :27:39.behind them is Living It Large and Judge 'n Jury who showed pace and
:27:40. > :27:44.another two to come. But John Best, we don't really need to ask him any
:27:44. > :27:54.more, he's interviewed himself, but fantastic performance and well done,
:27:54. > :27:58.
:27:58. > :28:02.talked to the camera about the draw, coming out of stall 2, that is
:28:02. > :28:10.possibly why Stone Of Folca was such a long price. And also the
:28:10. > :28:13.form last year wasen great. This was add good as a two-year-old?
:28:13. > :28:17.pound lower today than he's been in his life and he's been gelded. Only
:28:17. > :28:23.ever won a maiden before. You could see what a great passage he had and
:28:23. > :28:28.how well he got into a rhythm. normally horses don't win from that
:28:28. > :28:35.draw, but this guy, he's 50-1 possibly because he was drawn 2.
:28:35. > :28:40.Luke Morris is having a great time. Having a great time? Yes, very good
:28:40. > :28:45.jockey nowadays and it's only a matter of time before he see him in
:28:45. > :28:55.black tie braces. Desert Law, a good run from him and sprinting is
:28:55. > :28:55.
:28:55. > :29:01.his game. And Catfish, the thing I did notice about Catfish was that
:29:01. > :29:04.Michael Barzalona was losing his saddle. I don't know if that was an
:29:04. > :29:10.excuse earlier, but I saw that. Good on him for staying in the
:29:10. > :29:17.saddle which was not helping him. Luke Morris kissing the owners of
:29:17. > :29:22.Stone Of Folca. The Folkestone syndicate racers group. Thrilled
:29:22. > :29:32.for the owner who has a beautiful yard in Kent and does very well
:29:32. > :29:42.
:29:42. > :29:47.it is held by Indigenous, this is 0.09 of a second slower than
:29:47. > :29:53.Indigenous. That was hand-timed. This could be the fastest five ever
:29:53. > :30:00.This could be the fastest five ever run along this course.
:30:00. > :30:04.Well, I have the delighted winner on Connexions. He is very fast?
:30:04. > :30:08.very high-class two-year-old. He is back to form.
:30:08. > :30:13.To do it from stall two was a hell of a performance.
:30:13. > :30:17.John? You are delighted. That was a fantastic run? We thought he was a
:30:17. > :30:22.very good horse right from the early days. Things did not work out
:30:22. > :30:26.for us last year. It was always tough for him as a three-year-old.
:30:26. > :30:32.The ground was never right. His brain has not always been in the
:30:32. > :30:38.right place. Today, from stall two, I don't know how Luke managed to do
:30:38. > :30:46.it, but the horse is very, very quick. I have said it all along. A
:30:46. > :30:49.faster horse than King's Gate Native was. To get him there from
:30:49. > :30:57.stall two, on Derby Day as well, I could not be happier.
:30:57. > :31:03.So, he is in the King's Stand, are you taking on Black Cava? I think,
:31:03. > :31:08.I would say, we had him in there in case he came out and did this, we
:31:08. > :31:13.will take our chances. The problem is his brain. Mentally he is not
:31:13. > :31:16.good. Getting him on to the track is a nightmare. Like dealing with
:31:16. > :31:24.an untamed lion, but we did it today.
:31:24. > :31:28.Well, you all have a top hat and tail so, Royal Ascot, here you come.
:31:28. > :31:37.So, the winner of Investec Specialist Bank 'Dash' is Casey
:31:37. > :31:43.Stoner. There are many of bookmakers with
:31:43. > :31:47.smiling faces after that result, but maybe not so after Camelot.
:31:47. > :31:50.The horses of the Investec Derby are making their way into the
:31:50. > :31:55.paddock. The Aidan O'Brien runners are coming through. The third one
:31:55. > :31:59.along is the favourite, the red hot favourite, Camelot. It is the first
:31:59. > :32:05.glimpse that people will have of the favourite. At the moment he
:32:05. > :32:12.looks calm, collected, in good order. He looks in great shape. His
:32:12. > :32:16.skin is shining. He is unbeaten. Let's get the camera away from him.
:32:16. > :32:22.We don't want to cause trouble. The last horse to come through is
:32:22. > :32:29.Cavaleiro. That is for Marcus Tregoning.
:32:29. > :32:35.Camelot may be the one. He may be the one to follow up victory in the
:32:35. > :32:40.Investec Derby and then go on to complete the Triple Crown. No colt
:32:40. > :32:45.has done that since 1970, when a horse called Nijinsky won all three.
:32:45. > :32:51.He was undoubtedly a great Derby horse. Let's take a look at what
:32:51. > :32:56.that means. It's the ultimate test of a horse.
:32:56. > :32:59.It needs stamina and speed and balance and a very good mind.
:32:59. > :33:04.Stays the distance. Has the attitude to take on the big day.
:33:04. > :33:08.Keep his cool. Travel, you must travel. You can't be making up
:33:08. > :33:13.ground. Good horses have speed and stamina.
:33:13. > :33:19.The most mile-and-a-half Derby horses can win over six furlongs.
:33:19. > :33:22.It is a track that demands agility. They must be athletic. To have the
:33:22. > :33:26.speed to travel in the race. Without the speed to get into a
:33:26. > :33:30.good position that puts you back. That make it is difficult.
:33:31. > :33:33.A very high cruising speed. The ability to show speed and
:33:33. > :33:38.acceleration, but to get the distance.
:33:38. > :33:40.You need a horse that will then relax. The temperament to hold
:33:40. > :33:45.themselves together in a very intense atmosphere.
:33:45. > :33:50.You don't want a horse that is anxious. We have run horses where
:33:50. > :33:56.they are too keen, do too much too early and then cut out.
:33:57. > :34:00.They have to the balance at the turn, the stamina at the end.
:34:01. > :34:05.hill, then tight down hill. You must be well balanced to handle the
:34:05. > :34:11.track. If you are not, you are on the wrong leg, you are unbalanced
:34:11. > :34:15.and then all sorts of problems. That is why the Derby is such an
:34:15. > :34:19.amazing race, they have to have every ingredient to win.
:34:19. > :34:26.So, the first horses coming into the paddock.
:34:26. > :34:33.The tension really mounting now. Only minutes away.
:34:33. > :34:43.The Investec Derby of 2012. This year, the smallest field in 105
:34:43. > :34:46.
:34:46. > :34:49.years. Not since Aubury won in 1997 have we had such a small fieldment
:34:49. > :34:55.-- field, but they are quality runners. Let's have a look at the
:34:55. > :35:01.runners and the riders. Astrology. One of two in the race
:35:01. > :35:07.trained by Aidan O'Brien. Ridden by Ryan Moore.
:35:07. > :35:14.Bonfire, the second favourite. A good winner of the Dante Stakes at
:35:14. > :35:19.York. Number three, Camelot. The red hot
:35:19. > :35:25.favourite. Joseph O'Brien has a group one winner on the board.
:35:25. > :35:30.Four, Cavaleiro. Hayley Turner, the second woman to ride in the Derby.
:35:30. > :35:39.Five is Main Sequence, unbeaten colt, four out of four, the winner
:35:39. > :35:44.of the Lingfield Derby Trial. Mickdaam, winner of the Chester
:35:44. > :35:48.Trials. Ridden by Paul Hanagan. The first Derby ride.
:35:48. > :35:57.Minimise Risk. Ran no race when last in the chaster on heavy ground.
:35:57. > :36:04.Going better today. Number eight, Rugged Cross.
:36:04. > :36:08.Ridden by Dane O'Neill. Number nine, Thought Worthy, won the St Leger.
:36:08. > :36:13.They are the nine runners for this year's Derby.
:36:13. > :36:18.And down here in the paddock, the horses are parading around us.
:36:18. > :36:22.Everybody is abuzz. The Royal Party making their way down from the
:36:22. > :36:26.Royal Box. It is just the most gorgeous day. Perfect conditions.
:36:27. > :36:33.There is a breeze. It is not too close or warm.
:36:33. > :36:41.On their way down to the stables, Andrew Balding and his assistant
:36:41. > :36:44.trainer, Chris Bonner. The horse to be salded in the
:36:44. > :36:50.stables before coming to the paddock to ensure that nothing goes
:36:50. > :36:56.wrong. Bonfire, as we have explained can be a thinker. He
:36:56. > :37:00.likes to do things his own way. Every precaution is being taken,
:37:00. > :37:05.including bringing another horse here, Bonfire's work companion at
:37:05. > :37:13.home to be with him in the parade. To go down to the start where the
:37:13. > :37:19.head lad, Nigel Walker is to meet Bonfire to head to the stalls. So a
:37:19. > :37:24.lot for Andrew to think about and to keep them busy, that is for sure.
:37:24. > :37:29.Aidan O'Brien has a little bit of an easier time, Astrology looking
:37:29. > :37:34.calm as anything as Aidan O'Brien continues his tradition of saddling
:37:34. > :37:39.outside of the boxes. He likes to do it outside. Willie was saying
:37:39. > :37:43.earlier, how well his horses behave. They really seem to revel in the
:37:43. > :37:47.attention. To get space away from the runners. Astrology munching on
:37:47. > :37:50.the bit. His girth is tightened and Aidan
:37:50. > :37:55.O'Brien making the final preparations on the horse that we
:37:55. > :38:01.expect to be handy in the race, if not making the running there. To
:38:01. > :38:05.set a decent gallop. That is what he needs. It should ensure that
:38:05. > :38:09.Camelot, their big hope, does not get too keen in the race and
:38:09. > :38:16.everything pans out as they expect that it will.
:38:16. > :38:23.Aidan is reserved and does his tended way to be very lucky, lucky
:38:23. > :38:30.to have such a lovely horse in the race. It is Derrick who has said
:38:30. > :38:40.that they are going to win this. I'm sure it is a short price
:38:40. > :38:52.
:38:52. > :38:56.favourite? It is, these are the So, hugely short price odds-on for
:38:56. > :39:00.punters at home looking for value, that is not, but for the big money
:39:00. > :39:05.punters it is, they are confident to get a return from Camelot. A lot
:39:05. > :39:10.of people thinkering he cannot be beaten, but if we thought that for
:39:10. > :39:14.every odds-on horse for the race, we would never bother. Camelot
:39:15. > :39:19.looking cool. He is a real fiscal presence of a horse. A lovely
:39:19. > :39:29.stride on him. Power through the quarters. The second thigh there,
:39:29. > :39:31.
:39:31. > :39:38.the muscle is that that powers him He has a huge lung. The amount of
:39:38. > :39:42.air he can exhale and inhale in every stride. He is very impressive,
:39:42. > :39:47.isn't he? I was blessed to see him on Monday. I could not believe
:39:47. > :39:52.presence of the horse. He walked around like he owned the place.
:39:52. > :39:57.He is walking around this paddock as if he owns it too.
:39:57. > :40:02.That is a big lad this side of him, a big guy, he still does not make
:40:02. > :40:09.the horse look small. He is a monster and Joseph O'Brien is the
:40:09. > :40:14.man to get the leg up on board. He is nearly 6ft tall. He does a lot
:40:14. > :40:22.to keep his weight down. That is a rare drink for him. He must keep
:40:22. > :40:27.the weight down. It is a big frame to keep himself lean, but he is not
:40:27. > :40:31.dissimilar to Lester Piggott. Like Lester Piggott he could become a
:40:31. > :40:35.teenage winner of the Derby. Down in the stables far from the
:40:35. > :40:41.crowds, Bonfire is being saddled in the stables. So is Minimise Risk,
:40:41. > :40:47.both of the runners of Andrew Balding. It made more sense to take
:40:47. > :40:53.them saddled up down there. He has made the point come race day
:40:53. > :40:57.he has no problem with Bonfire, it is fine. Given that there is a lead
:40:57. > :41:02.horse. The problem is if no-one is leading them, he can whip around
:41:02. > :41:08.like a six pence. And the last thing you want is your
:41:09. > :41:13.horse galloping loose. We have had it once.
:41:13. > :41:18.Olivier Peslier has had it then. So Andrew is ensuring that nothing
:41:18. > :41:26.goes wrong before the race so that the 20 owners of Bonfire, the
:41:26. > :41:30.Highclere syndicate, so that they can enjoy this race. You know how
:41:30. > :41:35.excited the owners get. How much fun it is for them.
:41:35. > :41:38.This is a day you dream of. I'm sure that a lot of owners could not
:41:38. > :41:42.think with the possibility of winning the Derby.
:41:42. > :41:47.This is our gang. Her Majesty the Queen is coming into the paddock
:41:47. > :41:53.now to have a good look at these horses. Just nine runners. Camelot,
:41:53. > :42:03.the odds-on favourite. The one, I am sure, that the Queen will
:42:03. > :42:03.
:42:03. > :42:12.welcome at immediately and recognise. So well bred.
:42:12. > :42:16.He has been sired by Mangier. Camelot now being saddled.
:42:16. > :42:25.He is not turning a hair. Well, the jockeys are making their
:42:25. > :42:30.way out to the winner's en closure for the traditional pre-Derby photo.
:42:30. > :42:38.Yes, a great moment for any jockey to ride in the Derby. Just like you
:42:38. > :42:42.would have seen before the Grand National in April, they commemorate
:42:42. > :42:47.the days with a group photo. It is a nice touch it goes down well with
:42:47. > :42:55.the professionals. They love it Dane O'Neill on the left having his
:42:55. > :42:59.fifth ride in the Derby. Ted Durcan having his fifth. Down
:42:59. > :43:08.the front, Paul Hanagan, his first ride.
:43:08. > :43:13.Spence intense -- Jamie Spencer in the pink and the green jacket.
:43:13. > :43:16.On the right, Joseph O'Brien, his second ride in the Derby, riding
:43:16. > :43:20.the red hot favourite. Hayley Turner second from the right in the
:43:20. > :43:28.back. Here is Bonfire. He is finally
:43:28. > :43:35.leaving the stables, coming up to the paddock. Two people leading him.
:43:35. > :43:41.Taffy and I suspect Lee-Anne. Making sure he is surrounded by
:43:41. > :43:47.familiar faces and voices. In front of him is Minimise Risk.
:43:47. > :43:51.Andrew's other runner. A beautifully looking horse, but
:43:51. > :43:56.Bonfire, I was mentioning is owned by a gang of 20. They are all
:43:56. > :44:06.behind me here in the paddock. There are various levels of
:44:06. > :44:09.
:44:09. > :44:15.anticipation and excitement and Hi, there. You were bought in as a
:44:15. > :44:20.present? Yes, marvellous. I can't believe it, a tar by runner. With a
:44:20. > :44:23.chance?! With a chance! It's not like 1010-1 shot. I do hope Camelot
:44:23. > :44:28.understands that. You would all like your chance. For you, this is
:44:29. > :44:33.such a thrill. How has the day been so far? Building up to this moment,
:44:33. > :44:40.which is wonderful, can't believe we are here. We'll let you have a
:44:40. > :44:45.closer look at Bonfire, because he's there with Rishi. This one
:44:45. > :44:51.leading the way, trained by Clare's brother Andrew. Bonfire, nothing
:44:51. > :44:54.untoward, he's taking it all in. The ears are the signal. That is
:44:54. > :44:57.the signal that a horse is taking it all in, listening and paying
:44:57. > :45:02.attention. Now he's coming toward the camera. We'll keep a safe
:45:02. > :45:07.distance as he trots past. At the moment, as Clare will have seen as
:45:07. > :45:17.he left the stables on the way to the paddock, he looks lovely, calm
:45:17. > :45:18.
:45:18. > :45:22.and relaxed. So there is the wonderful trophy, a unique trophy
:45:22. > :45:27.it is as well. You know you've won the Derby if you've got one of
:45:27. > :45:33.those sitting in your drawing room. The guest of honour is our own
:45:33. > :45:39.Willie Carson who had 28 rides in the Derby. He won four of them and
:45:39. > :45:44.he was in the frame many, many times. A man who had an uncanny
:45:44. > :45:51.knack around this tricky course and the first man he meets is Jamie
:45:51. > :46:00.Spencer, a jockey he would have ridden against but he retired in
:46:00. > :46:10.1997. Bill yam Buick, Paul Hanagan, Ryan O'Neil. Ryan Moore I should
:46:10. > :46:12.
:46:13. > :46:18.say. And a kiss for the only lady. Joseph O'Brien just being given the
:46:18. > :46:23.Willie Carson treatment! Willie Carson I'm sure will offer
:46:23. > :46:26.words of encouragement to the jockeys. William Bewick making his
:46:26. > :46:30.way over to the Thought Worthy team and the owner, an immensely
:46:30. > :46:39.sporting man who's been a racehorse owner for many years and breeder as
:46:39. > :46:42.well. He's going to have a chat with William.
:46:42. > :46:47.William's giving me a really dirty look there saying, we won't listen
:46:47. > :46:51.in on them. We won't! William will explain to his owner George exactly
:46:51. > :46:54.what he's planning to do in the race. John Gosden train this is
:46:54. > :46:58.horse and ultimately, I think he'll end up being the horse who might be
:46:58. > :47:03.able to go even further than a mile and a half so they know his stamina
:47:03. > :47:08.will not be the problem and however strong a pace Astrology might set,
:47:08. > :47:14.I suspect he will not be too far behind it. Willie, did you enjoy
:47:14. > :47:20.your moment? Yes, told them all what to do. Had a good look at
:47:20. > :47:28.Camelot? Yes. There goes Main Sequence behind us getting a bit
:47:28. > :47:32.warm. Mickdaam. A Chester winner. He was quite light and lanky
:47:32. > :47:36.actually. He went round Chester on very bad ground. Exactly. Let's go
:47:36. > :47:43.back to the betting ring and see what news there is from John Parrot.
:47:44. > :47:53.Anything else being supported apart from Camelot? There's money now for
:47:54. > :48:05.
:48:05. > :48:09.Bonfire, I think the each way Bonfire is the each way thief.
:48:10. > :48:16.There is Bonfire, safely arrived in the paddock, seemingly behaving
:48:16. > :48:20.himself well at the moment, having a good look around. Taffy Cheshire
:48:20. > :48:25.keeping him just interest in what is going on around him but not
:48:25. > :48:29.getting him too wound up. He's a gorgeous looking horse, very pretty
:48:29. > :48:34.but has a very active brain and wants to know what is going on and
:48:34. > :48:38.oh my word, he moves well. Such a dainty mover when you see him
:48:38. > :48:44.canter down to the start, you will see the stride and see what you
:48:44. > :48:48.think. Maybe he's good enough, maybe not, because Camelot...
:48:48. > :48:54.ran yesterday. Yes. This is the Cavaleiro group. Hayley Turner gets
:48:54. > :49:00.her first ride in the Derby, trained by Marcus tregnifpbg, who's
:49:00. > :49:05.won the Derby with Sir Percy, the sire of Cavaleiro, so not
:49:05. > :49:11.dissimilar preparation Marcus, you look more relaxed. More so than you,
:49:11. > :49:15.the pressure is on. Don't you start, I'm being quite good I think?!
:49:15. > :49:20.hopefully Bonn fir will run well, Cavaleiro is in good form. We wish
:49:20. > :49:24.you well and Hayley well as well. Hayley, feeling all right? Yes,
:49:24. > :49:29.good actually, surprisingly chilled out. You haven't been checking your
:49:29. > :49:34.phone for texts and things? allowed them in the weighing room.
:49:34. > :49:37.It's all good, thanks. Hope you have a great ride. Thank you,
:49:38. > :49:43.cheers. Fabulous jockey Hayley and making
:49:43. > :49:51.history, the second female jockey to ride in the history after Alex
:49:51. > :49:55.Grieves in 1996 which was when I think maybe Sir Percy won it. The
:49:55. > :50:05.Queen's breeding adviser next to her and Prince Philip next to her
:50:05. > :50:06.
:50:06. > :50:11.as well. Examining the breeding of the horses. Let's find Rishi.
:50:11. > :50:15.Keep ago close eye on Bonfire for you. At this stage, Willie, there's
:50:15. > :50:20.nothing that looks untoward as regards his demeanour? Of course
:50:20. > :50:25.not, he looks absolutely fine. Got a lip chain on. Good looking?
:50:26. > :50:32.good looking horse. You can see the horse, look at his ears and eye and
:50:32. > :50:37.look at the ears. He's alert. he is, but he's sent all the people
:50:37. > :50:41.around the paddock to say look at me, aren't I a handsome beast.
:50:41. > :50:46.only you had the same ears you would be doing the same. Exactly.
:50:46. > :50:50.The horse behind Astrology, lovely relaxed big, strong colt? Very
:50:50. > :50:56.strong indeed. I don't know about going around Epsom. He just looks a
:50:56. > :51:02.bit heavy for Epsom. Went round Chester OK. That's turning. This is
:51:02. > :51:09.downhill with the big shoulders that he has. But he's a very
:51:09. > :51:15.relaxed one. Aid on Brian's are always relaxed. Camelot? -- Aidan
:51:15. > :51:20.O'Brien's horses are always well relaxed. Can you find any negatives
:51:20. > :51:28.about him? No, actually you saying small and compact. Normally that's
:51:28. > :51:33.what people say is best at Epsom. There you go. Number 5, he's
:51:33. > :51:39.getting a little warm, but is it anything to worry about? No, he's a
:51:39. > :51:43.big strong horse. He hasn't had a lot of racing, you know, he's
:51:44. > :51:50.unbeaten. He is. And he's a big strong lad, but might just lack
:51:50. > :51:55.experience. A big strong colt again. Thought Worthy, another one? Yes,
:51:55. > :52:00.he's going to stay, isn't he. He's got a lip chain on as well.
:52:00. > :52:05.would they put one on him? releases the endorphins out and
:52:05. > :52:09.gives them a very sleepy feeling while you have the chain. It goes
:52:09. > :52:15.across the top lip and just releases things and it makes them
:52:15. > :52:18.feel sorts of relaxed. It does a great job for going around the
:52:18. > :52:23.paddock in this sorts of circumstances. But you can see that
:52:23. > :52:28.most of the horses in the Derby here are, you know, behaving very,
:52:28. > :52:33.very well indeed. I don't think that you will be able to find a
:52:33. > :52:38.negative, not even you! You can let that go now. Horse 6 Mickdaam has
:52:38. > :52:43.had a lot of races this season, been campaigning out in Dubai, but
:52:43. > :52:48.seems to be thriving for it? looks one of the lightest horses in
:52:48. > :52:54.the paddock today, just looking a little bit fit. Too fit? I'm not
:52:54. > :52:59.saying too fit at all, but looks these he's 100% fit and he possibly
:52:59. > :53:04.might need a rest after today. last one I want to talk about is 8,
:53:04. > :53:09.Rugged Cross, a big price, but his trainer is a shrewd character,
:53:09. > :53:17.knows whether or not he has a good horse? Yes, his form doesn't
:53:17. > :53:22.suggest he'd win, but he's a small, nice, attractive colt. He's just a
:53:22. > :53:25.nice little horse. But his form suggests that he will be hard-
:53:25. > :53:29.pressed to get into any of the money today. So all in all, you are
:53:29. > :53:33.saying lots of positives, no negatives in the paddock?
:53:33. > :53:36.negatives that I can see, but you are always the person who just
:53:36. > :53:45.might find one. Of course, everybody says it's a penalty kick,
:53:45. > :53:48.the ball is on the spot! The ball may be on the spot but
:53:48. > :53:53.there is a mile and a half to negotiate and eight other runners
:53:53. > :53:58.of finely bred horses to be beaten. One is Main Sequence, the trainer
:53:58. > :54:03.just walking past us, who work ford five years as assistant to Henry
:54:03. > :54:09.Cecil. In the parade, won fire will be going last, with a horse
:54:09. > :54:15.accompanying him, Isfahan, who is his companion at home. Camelot,
:54:16. > :54:19.Joseph O'Briain is standing in the middle of the paddock delaying his
:54:19. > :54:24.association with Camelot, as it were, just delaying getting a leg
:54:24. > :54:29.up. You can see Joseph there in the trees and Aidan will come over to
:54:29. > :54:33.him in a minute and say, time to get on board, let's make this thing
:54:33. > :54:40.happen and find out whether this horse, Camelot, is as good as they
:54:40. > :54:43.all think he is at home and can he be the first colt since Nijinski to
:54:43. > :54:47.twin 2000 Guineas, the Derby and then have success in the St Leger,
:54:47. > :54:51.because that's the plan, to do something that none of the other
:54:52. > :55:01.current horses at stud, none of the other stallions have done. Bonfire
:55:02. > :55:05.
:55:05. > :55:09.coming across to take his position of expectation. Almost a hush
:55:09. > :55:14.around the paddock as everybody holds their breath. Thought Worthy
:55:14. > :55:22.getting on his toes walking behind Camelot and is sweating up a little
:55:22. > :55:28.bit just beginning to get a bit toey. The delay, the kind of horses
:55:28. > :55:37.know that something is about to happen. Camelot says, all right,
:55:37. > :55:44.let's just see what happens. Others want to know what is goings on.
:55:44. > :55:48.Part of the test, the men tall test for the horses is the parade in
:55:48. > :55:58.front of the grandstand -- mental test. They are welcomed by a
:55:58. > :56:16.
:56:16. > :56:22.Leading the parade is Astrology, a winner of the Dee Stakes at Chester
:56:22. > :56:27.last time around and the last winner to win this was one in 2030.
:56:27. > :56:34.Ryan Moore the only jockey in this field that's won the Derby before.
:56:34. > :56:39.Fol Loyeing him out is Cavaleiro at 33-1. He won the race with Sir
:56:39. > :56:45.Percy. -- following him out. Cavaleiro would have an outside
:56:45. > :56:51.chance, but not a complete no-hoper. Quite a gap and I have no idea
:56:51. > :56:59.which horse will come out next, but we'll see very shortly. And it's
:56:59. > :57:08.Main Sequence, the Lingfield winner last time out. Impressive turn of
:57:08. > :57:13.foot. He's gotten slightly warm in the paddock. I'm sure he'll settle
:57:13. > :57:17.down. This is Mickdaam with Paul Hanagan having his first Derby ride
:57:17. > :57:24.for Richard Fahey. He's been all over the world already. He's a bit
:57:24. > :57:34.of a traveller. This is Minimise Risk, the outsider of the field at
:57:34. > :57:38.
:57:38. > :57:45.66-1 in the colours there green and lilac. Needs to improve form-wise.
:57:45. > :57:50.Rugged Cross, Henry Candy's runner, probably the smallest of the colts.
:57:50. > :57:54.Very sweet looking. He will finish well beaten by Thought Worthy
:57:54. > :57:58.actually. If that worm were to be repeated, you would think this
:57:58. > :58:05.horse, Thought Worthy, would again finish in front of Rugged Cross.
:58:05. > :58:13.Just got a little wound up. William Bewick riding for John Gosden who
:58:13. > :58:18.ran this race with Benny The Dip before coming hear to the Derby,
:58:19. > :58:23.although this horse, Thought Worthy, had a run in-between. And there,
:58:23. > :58:27.that's actually Camelot, the odds on favourite. Joseph doing what he
:58:27. > :58:32.did on St Nicholas Abbey and taking the horse to the far rail. Pat
:58:32. > :58:38.Keating with him making sure his horse stays calm. And Bonfire
:58:39. > :58:43.making sure he goes into a canter sooner rather than later and that's
:58:44. > :58:46.Isfahan alongside him to give him company and to make him feel as if
:58:46. > :58:51.everything's all right. Jimmy Fortune saying to him, can you go
:58:51. > :58:55.in front of me and give me a lead so I can settle my horse in behind
:58:55. > :59:00.you. Bonfire fighting a little bit for his head but will drop it a
:59:00. > :59:03.little in a moment or two and Jimmy will take him steadily down to the
:59:03. > :59:13.start. It's Derby day, but it's Derby day with a difference because
:59:13. > :59:15.
:59:15. > :59:19.it's also the start of the Diamond days in the sporting calendar.
:59:19. > :59:23.Derby Day is a special national occasion. The royal association
:59:23. > :59:28.goes back 300 years. Her Majesty the Queen making her way to the
:59:28. > :59:33.attic. With the Jubilee celebrations only days away, it is
:59:33. > :59:37.a right royal occasion. A great moment in any year, but for the
:59:37. > :59:46.more so in the Jubilee year. Can he win the Derby for Her Majesty the
:59:46. > :59:53.Queen? It was neck and neck! It is going to be a royal victory, I
:59:53. > :59:57.think! Jubilee there seems to be everywhere. The day that Her
:59:57. > :00:07.Majesty the Queen tries not to miss. To top it all, their Majesty the
:00:07. > :00:09.
:00:09. > :00:13.the most famous shots you will see underneath the trees. You can say
:00:13. > :00:17.all the cars coming down, bringing the medical team, everybody
:00:17. > :00:22.involved with the start, just to make sure that everybody is in
:00:22. > :00:28.place. Any moment now, you should see the winner of the 2012 Derby
:00:28. > :00:35.coming over the hill. There will be nine of them, and they normally
:00:35. > :00:40.stop here, just let the horses relax. We are running a little bit
:00:40. > :00:44.late, but when you are trying to win a race like the Epsom Derby, an
:00:44. > :00:54.extra couple of minutes will not make any difference.
:00:54. > :01:12.
:01:12. > :01:18.Camelot remains the very strong motion. He was at the rear of the
:01:18. > :01:21.Praed, but both Camelot and Bonfire had permission to be at the rear,
:01:21. > :01:27.Sir Joseph O'Brien kept him right over against the far rail, away
:01:27. > :01:33.from the other horses. He seems to be perfectly relaxed as he strides
:01:33. > :01:40.up the hill now. There is Bonfire, who got the lead from Isfahan, his
:01:40. > :01:47.stablemate. Feet out of the irons, Jimmy Fortune, and Bonfire being
:01:47. > :01:53.led there, just trying to relax in, trying to reassure him that
:01:53. > :01:58.everything is OK. This is a big occasion, but this is that what he
:01:58. > :02:02.is here for, to race for a classic. This is still the most important
:02:02. > :02:08.Classic in racing. It is now back again as the richest race in
:02:08. > :02:12.Britain, and it is the pivotal race in the calendar in Europe still.
:02:12. > :02:21.Many big targets later in the year, but this is the classic, this
:02:21. > :02:25.decides the leader of a generation. We will soon see. The travelling
:02:25. > :02:30.head lad meeting and leading Bonfire down to the starting stalls,
:02:30. > :02:34.and when they open, we will find out if he is good enough to beat
:02:34. > :02:39.Camelot. Is he good enough to beat Astrology? Is he good enough to
:02:39. > :02:46.beat his stablemate, Minimise Risk? The confidence is leaving you!
:02:46. > :02:50.Getting nervous now, Willie! I am so excited and so thrilled that
:02:50. > :02:55.Derby Day is still this popular, that people want to be here. The
:02:55. > :03:05.Diamond Jubilee is a huge part of it, adding to the whole occasion,
:03:05. > :03:08.
:03:08. > :03:15.but they are here for the most how many people have found a spot.
:03:15. > :03:18.They are all around the rail, aren't they? It reminds me of when
:03:18. > :03:23.I won the 200 Derby on Troy, I could hear people shouting at
:03:23. > :03:28.Lester Piggott from a mile out, you could hear people on the side of
:03:28. > :03:34.the course. They were five or 60 all the way around to the mile, and
:03:34. > :03:38.some of them down to a mile and a quarter. You have got people right
:03:38. > :03:42.around the racecourse, and it just shows how popular horse racing is.
:03:42. > :03:46.And as a social occasion how much fun it is and how much they enjoy
:03:46. > :03:50.being close to the horses, watching them coming flying past, there is
:03:50. > :03:56.nothing like it. Joseph O'Brien, looking as cool as anything on
:03:56. > :04:05.Camelot. Very relaxed. He is such a good horseman. He was in the
:04:05. > :04:09.European Championships as an event of. He cannot do any more. Sarah is
:04:09. > :04:16.a good rider, both the girls are, actually. Both of them are very
:04:16. > :04:26.good horse women, and Camelot also been greeted by a member of the
:04:26. > :04:30.
:04:30. > :04:35.O'Brien team. He has just got a bit warmed up, Main Sequence. They have
:04:35. > :04:42.candida a hill for about a mile, so obviously they are not going to be
:04:42. > :04:46.a real cool as if they have come out of a shower. Cantering does
:04:46. > :04:51.take a lot, it makes you warm. There are many Derby trials, but
:04:51. > :04:55.the one which is a classic in its own right is the 2000 Guineas, and
:04:55. > :05:00.Camelot won that last time out to maintain his unbeaten record, and
:05:00. > :05:04.what a ride from Joseph O'Brien in terms of keeping cool. He sat near
:05:04. > :05:08.enough last and then came through the field. You can see the purple
:05:08. > :05:12.colours with white sleeves, Joseph starting to ask Camelot now to go
:05:12. > :05:19.through a narrow gap. It looked like he might not get heir in time,
:05:19. > :05:23.but you cannot pull him up. He was always going to win the race. Now
:05:23. > :05:33.he gets the horse into Top Gear, and look at him, he is going away
:05:33. > :05:37.from the rest of the field. The French horse... French 15. The runs
:05:37. > :05:45.tomorrow in the Prix du Jockey-Club, the French Derby. It could be a one
:05:45. > :05:51.to them -- there, and if this's wins here, it will be a shorter
:05:51. > :05:56.price tomorrow. But there is your horse, a Bonfire. He has got
:05:56. > :06:00.another lad to lead him, quite a long way to go. My brother Andrew
:06:00. > :06:04.is standing with Harry Herbert and the other owners. And there's my
:06:04. > :06:12.father, who won this race in 1971 with Mill Reef. My mother is just
:06:12. > :06:18.next to him. That looks like Nigel now, there is mam that looks like
:06:18. > :06:25.he is about to burst into tears, this will be hopeless! I hope I
:06:25. > :06:33.have that problem, but we will see! Will it be a balding afternoon? Not
:06:33. > :06:40.long to go. Room of Cavaleiro, tell us the story behind him. I used to
:06:40. > :06:45.do Sir Percy, his father, and I said to the head lad, I will do him,
:06:45. > :06:49.and look what havoc this was the one. We saw a lot of nervy grooms,
:06:49. > :06:54.but you looked very collected. Maybe because I am an outsider, I
:06:55. > :07:00.have not got as much pressure. But give him a lot of credit, he will
:07:00. > :07:05.not be at the back. Are you proud that he is here at Derby Day?
:07:05. > :07:08.takes a lot to get a horse here, there are only nine out of
:07:08. > :07:14.thousands of three-year-old. It is very good. What will you do if he
:07:14. > :07:19.wins? Not as bad as last time, I went running around like a lunatic.
:07:19. > :07:25.I am a bit more chilled this year. We can see some pictures are palely
:07:25. > :07:32.on Cavaleiro at the moment. I would rather kiss her than Martin Dwyer!
:07:32. > :07:38.Good luck. Thank you very much. Coming over the hill, I can just
:07:38. > :07:41.say the posse of the 2012 Derby. It is amazing, they come to this part
:07:41. > :07:47.and just eased their horses down and take their time coming down
:07:47. > :07:53.here. The winner of the Derby, it is such a huge thing for any horse
:07:53. > :07:57.to do. Right at the front, that is Astrology, Ryan Moore setting the
:07:57. > :08:03.pace for the boys, and it is pretty sedate now. They will be going
:08:03. > :08:07.slightly quicker on the way back. Joseph O'Brien, the 5th horse back,
:08:07. > :08:13.the purple colours, legs out, trying to keep tabs on Camelot,
:08:13. > :08:18.Keepin nice and relaxed. That is what it is all to do. You can just
:08:18. > :08:25.see Josef doing nothing out of the ordinary, very important at this
:08:25. > :08:28.stage not to upset the horse's rhythm. You can see right at the
:08:28. > :08:32.back, Paul Hanagan in that group. Another group is coming underneath
:08:32. > :08:42.the trees, and that is on fire. Clare will be very keen to know
:08:42. > :08:47.
:08:47. > :08:51.that he is nice and relaxed, up get a little bit warm now, sweating
:08:51. > :08:56.underneath his saddle, between his legs, starting to feel the pressure
:08:56. > :08:59.of the situation, but as long as he does not do anything silly and they
:08:59. > :09:02.getting into the stalls all right, we will find out. He has got to
:09:03. > :09:10.cope with this course, you have ridden it so many times and been
:09:10. > :09:16.successful four times, what are the challenges of riding around Epsom?
:09:16. > :09:20.Basically, you have to have a horse who has got speed and is brave. The
:09:20. > :09:25.speed to get you a good position, brave because other people will
:09:25. > :09:30.want the spot that you are in, you will get bumped. They run uphill.
:09:30. > :09:34.You cross over, you go from one side of the track to the other, and
:09:35. > :09:39.then basically from the mile and a quarter, all you are trying to do
:09:39. > :09:44.is let your horse off the hook, leave him, let him breathe, let him
:09:44. > :09:49.get to the top of the hill as easily as you can without using any
:09:49. > :09:53.energy, to get up to the seven furlong marker, and then, when you
:09:53. > :10:00.start turning, left-handed, the ground starts dropping away from
:10:00. > :10:04.you. You can see it, Tattenham Corner, the ground has really... It
:10:04. > :10:09.is a hill down, and when you get into the straight, that is when the
:10:09. > :10:14.race starts proper. You can see that the ground is still sloping
:10:14. > :10:18.down until the furlong marker, and then at the half furlong there is a
:10:18. > :10:22.sharp little rise up to the finish. And that allows some horses to make
:10:22. > :10:27.the ground in the dying strides, as Pour Moi did last year, and
:10:27. > :10:32.suddenly come and overtake the two horses in front of him, Treasure
:10:32. > :10:38.Beach and Carton House, a hugely dramatic finish to the race with an
:10:38. > :10:44.amazing turn of foot. Thought Worthy is just being wiped off,
:10:44. > :10:47.William Buick on board. It is one now, Clare, the sun is out. You
:10:47. > :10:53.have bought all the people shouting at them, they have not had that
:10:53. > :10:58.before. The horses have not got into any quiet part of the track.
:10:58. > :11:03.Back down to the start with Mick Fitzgerald. I am just looking over
:11:03. > :11:06.at Jimmy Fortune on Bonfire, he has got a smile from ear to ear, which
:11:06. > :11:12.I am sure Clare Balding will be very pleased to see, he looks nice
:11:12. > :11:16.and relaxed. If the jockey is relaxed, they transmitted to the
:11:16. > :11:22.horse. He is a little bit sweaty, but it is a warm day down here, so
:11:22. > :11:26.I would not be concerned. I think the horse looks pretty good, Clare.
:11:26. > :11:31.It is a relief to everybody who has backed him and his supporting him.
:11:31. > :11:35.A relief to his owners and his trainer as well. Bonfire will be
:11:35. > :11:40.led around into the stalls. My brother Andrew, his first runners
:11:41. > :11:45.in the race this year, he has also got Minimise Risk. He is seen in
:11:45. > :11:50.some of the big screen and saying get off me! The price is looking
:11:50. > :12:00.pretty interesting as well, the outsider is Minimise Risk. A quick
:12:00. > :12:12.
:12:12. > :12:17.look at the top of the betting. and Leger winner, also in the top
:12:17. > :12:22.half of the betting. A field of only nine, but a challenge ahead.
:12:22. > :12:26.The circumstances, the other horses, the course, the crowd, the distance,
:12:26. > :12:30.everything about his race that means the winner is exceptional.
:12:30. > :12:40.Were that the Camelot or one of the others? We can join Jim McGrath to
:12:40. > :12:46.
:12:46. > :12:52.find out, the moment of destiny Aidan O'Brien has had 41 runners
:12:52. > :12:59.since the last won the race and has been second in four of the last

:13:06. > :13:10.in the saddle. He is brought forward now, he is locked away.
:13:10. > :13:20.Mickdaam is going to be the last run by the champion jockey, Paul

:13:25. > :13:30.ready. Set. They're racing in the Investec Derby of 2012. Cavaleiro.
:13:30. > :13:37.Minimise Risk up there in the early stages. Mickdaam is there as well
:13:37. > :13:41.and Main Sequence. On the far side, it's Astrology who goes on. Takes
:13:41. > :13:47.it up clearly from Thought Worthy. Also up there is Rugged Cross.
:13:47. > :13:56.Cavaleiro on the near side in company with Mickdaam. All the time
:13:56. > :14:01.they're climbing. Main Sequence, Bonfire. Camelot with Minimise Risk.
:14:01. > :14:07.Astrology going on by a couple of lengths and doing it well too,
:14:08. > :14:17.setting a very brisk pace. Rugged Cross on the inside rail. Hayley
:14:17. > :14:21.Turner holding her ground. Bonfire. Mickdaam, Main Sequence. At the
:14:21. > :14:25.rear of the field, Camelot on the outside and last is Minimise Risk.
:14:25. > :14:31.All the time they are climbing in the Derby. Astrology out in front
:14:31. > :14:35.for Ryan Moore leads by a couple of lengths. A length and a half
:14:35. > :14:41.further back is Rugged Cross at the inside.
:14:41. > :14:49.Bonfire has improved his place. A length further back is Cavaleiro.
:14:49. > :14:55.Followed by Main Sequence. Mickdaam. Minimise Risk. Steadying now,
:14:55. > :15:01.starting to run downhill in the darbifplt the leader is Astrology -
:15:01. > :15:06.- Derby. Rugged Cross on the inside of Bonfire who's beautifully poised.
:15:06. > :15:10.Cavaleiro followed next in the field by Main Sequence. At the rear,
:15:10. > :15:15.Camelot is now eased to the outside and, with about seven lengths to
:15:15. > :15:18.make up as they run down Tattenham corner, it's Astrology on the
:15:18. > :15:23.inside. Astrology just the leader, but Thought Worthy coming at him.
:15:23. > :15:28.Two or three lengths in front of Rugged Cross. In the centre
:15:28. > :15:35.battling away is bonbon Bonn. O'Brien gets to work on Camelot,
:15:35. > :15:41.calls on his colt for an effort. Astrology, he's getting away from
:15:41. > :15:47.him. Camelot is turning on the heat. Starting to run at Astrology.
:15:47. > :15:53.Camelot goes up. Camelot takes the lead from the stable mate Astrology.
:15:53. > :15:59.He then starts to draw away, the first father son combination to win
:15:59. > :16:04.the Derby, Aidan and Joseph O'Brien, tight second. Main Sequence on the
:16:04. > :16:11.near side. Just got up to beat Astrology, a gap in the field
:16:11. > :16:17.behind them was Mickdaam. Followed by Bonfire, Cavaleiro among the
:16:17. > :16:21.tail Enders. But Camelot, the 13-8 on favourite, has don it! Aidan
:16:21. > :16:25.O'Brien and Joseph O'Brien go into the history books as the first
:16:25. > :16:31.father son trainer jockey combination to have landed the
:16:31. > :16:34.Derby and Camelot is part of Derby legend. Officially photo for second
:16:34. > :16:38.but looks like Main Sequence has got up on the near side from
:16:38. > :16:45.Astrology. We'll have a look at that in a moment.
:16:45. > :16:50.Here is the outcome. Here it is. Second number 5 Main Sequence,
:16:50. > :17:00.third number 1 Astrology and fourth is number 9, Thought Worthy. So,
:17:00. > :17:00.
:17:00. > :17:10.Camelot the favourite has won it. Camelot, trained by aid Aidan
:17:10. > :17:11.
:17:11. > :17:14.O'Brien, ridden by his son Joseph. He has created history by winning
:17:14. > :17:21.quite comfortably in the end in the coolest ride you will see for a
:17:21. > :17:28.long, long time. Don't forget it was only three years and five days
:17:28. > :17:32.since Joseph O'Brien actually rode his first winner. Main Sequence
:17:32. > :17:37.just getting up for second, just ahead of Astrology. And then
:17:37. > :17:44.Thought Worthy back in fourth place, there followed by Mickdaam. Further
:17:44. > :17:50.back, Bonfire, given every chance in a nice position. Followed by
:17:50. > :17:57.Minimise Risk and Rugged Cross and Cavaleiro.
:17:57. > :18:02.Five lengths and a short head were the distances, 233.90 the time and

:18:06. > :18:13.second with high chaparral in the fold lowing year, and this, without
:18:13. > :18:19.doubt, will be the proudest moment of his racing life. Here is Rishi
:18:19. > :18:23.talking to Joseph O'Brien. Just trying to grab a word with you,
:18:23. > :18:30.Joseph. Fantastic performance from the horse. Were you ever worried at
:18:30. > :18:34.all? I was a little bit. Didn't come down the hill at all. He
:18:34. > :18:40.didn't do it for a while but he wanted to win today. He had a bit
:18:40. > :18:46.of ground to make up, but what he did from down the top of the hill,
:18:46. > :18:56.as he came down into the home straight, how did that feel, aboard
:18:56. > :18:57.
:18:57. > :19:03.him? He's a very special horse. I feel very, very special to be on
:19:03. > :19:09.board him. Thank you to everyone. Your Father, yourself, the first
:19:09. > :19:13.father son combination to win it. Thank you. Well done. Thanks.
:19:13. > :19:17.19 years old and now so much he's already achieved in this sport.
:19:17. > :19:21.It's extraordinary, the emergence of Joseph O'Brien and for Aidan
:19:21. > :19:26.O'Brien, that now completes all four classics that have so far been
:19:26. > :19:30.run in this country. He won the 2thouzginnees with Camelot, the
:19:30. > :19:34.Oaks yesterday with waz, today the Derby with Camelot and they will, I
:19:34. > :19:41.am sure, confirm in the winners enclosure that they are going for
:19:41. > :19:47.the St Leger -- 2000 Guineas with Camelot, the Oaks yesterday with
:19:47. > :19:53.Was. That would be the all- conquering thing for the Daly Doyle
:19:53. > :19:59.team. It's not a bad story this, add into the mix the father/son
:19:59. > :20:04.making history, and it's a great story. I must give full marks to
:20:04. > :20:09.this young jockey. He was so cool, he sat out the back. This is, don't
:20:09. > :20:15.forget, the most important race of the whole year. I know he's got a
:20:15. > :20:21.pacemaker, but he had to be so cool coming down into Tattenham corner
:20:21. > :20:26.and not panic and go. He waited and he waited and it looked as though
:20:26. > :20:30.he might just have waited too far, but no! He had timed it absolutely
:20:30. > :20:36.with perfection. And that man there who you saw celebrating, Derek
:20:36. > :20:39.Smith, finally sees his colours come home in front in the Investec
:20:40. > :20:43.Derby, he's finished second in this race five times the last four years
:20:43. > :20:46.running he's finished second, treasure Beach not beaten far this
:20:46. > :20:56.year. Her Majesty the Queen looking down and she'll be thrilled that
:20:56. > :21:06.this horse, like her horse, Motivator... She'll be working out
:21:06. > :21:06.
:21:06. > :21:13.everything... Camelot will inherit, I'm sure in time, that mantle of
:21:13. > :21:17.the previous winner who died last year. How exciting this that horse
:21:18. > :21:25.is going to ride in St Leger, that will be the first triple crown
:21:25. > :21:30.winner since 1971. 1970. Nijinski. Let's go back to Rishi to get some
:21:30. > :21:34.news of the beaten horses. Before I do, I've got the very,
:21:34. > :21:38.very proud mum, congratulations. Thank you, thank you, I can't
:21:38. > :21:45.believe it, it's amazing. What was watching that like in the closing
:21:45. > :21:50.stages? Torture, yes, but I met Lester Pigott last weekend and he
:21:50. > :21:54.said tell Joseph don't be in any hurry, so I knew when he had time
:21:54. > :21:59.coming it was perfectly timed. Incredible. Congratulations, off
:21:59. > :22:06.you go to welcome him back. Well done.
:22:06. > :22:12.So, he comes back, a magnificent five length winner of the Investec
:22:12. > :22:22.Derby of 2012. And what a performance. When you consider this
:22:22. > :22:23.
:22:23. > :22:33.colt, he's unbeaten in four starts, had four classic winners now.
:22:33. > :22:34.
:22:34. > :22:39.Joseph O'Brien had his first ride in a race only three years ago. He
:22:39. > :22:46.was aged 16 years and one day then. Won his first race only four days
:22:46. > :22:55.later. Go on three years and here he is landing the biggest, most
:22:55. > :23:00.important race in the world, the Epsom Derby. And the horse who's
:23:00. > :23:04.got huge talent. No doubt about that. With his bloodlines, you are
:23:04. > :23:10.expecting him to be able to make a name for himself over a mile and
:23:10. > :23:15.three quarters in the ledger if they decide to go in that direction
:23:15. > :23:21.-- the St Leger. They've already indicated they would like it to be
:23:22. > :23:29.the triple crown winner. And into the winners enclosure, this very
:23:29. > :23:38.special place, with a horse who's entered Derby legend in front of
:23:38. > :23:44.Her Majesty the Queen. There he is. A magnificent horse. Proud owners,
:23:44. > :23:52.Derek Smith's had 100 group 1 wins which is an extraordinary effort,
:23:52. > :23:57.an extraordinary achievement considering he came into the racing
:23:57. > :24:01.in the year of George Washington colt which is not that long ago. As
:24:01. > :24:06.I said beforehand, it had been a long time for Aidan O'Brien and a
:24:06. > :24:13.frustrating time for him in the Derby having been placed second in
:24:13. > :24:17.four of the last five Derbies. It was becoming a very frustrating
:24:17. > :24:25.experience for him. But he always had confidence in this colt and
:24:25. > :24:29.spoke of him as being something special. He is. The man whose
:24:29. > :24:33.colours were carried to victory is here. Derek Smith, we have spoken
:24:33. > :24:37.to you twice now after the Oaks and the Coronation Cup but this is the
:24:37. > :24:43.one you wanted? This is the one everyone wants. It's not a dream
:24:43. > :24:47.because I could never have dreamt I'd do it. Unbelievable. To win the
:24:47. > :24:52.English Derby was and is a dream come true. What a ride from young
:24:52. > :24:56.Joseph? What a ride and what a horse! He had to travel so easy,
:24:56. > :25:01.come down the outside and you could see it was all over.
:25:01. > :25:05.How do you feel being part of this set-up and this now your 100th
:25:05. > :25:09.Group 1 winner with which you have been personally associated. How has
:25:09. > :25:12.this changed your life? I've had such fun out of it, much
:25:12. > :25:16.appreciation to John and the team at Cornwall. They are a fantastic
:25:16. > :25:21.team of people. To be in ownership with the likes of John and Michael
:25:21. > :25:25.is everything. To be here with your family - I must say hello to my
:25:25. > :25:29.wife who's at home not very well and couldn't travel - hello and
:25:29. > :25:36.well done! It's great to be here and to be part of it. What now is
:25:36. > :25:41.the triple crown on the agenda? suppose it must be, mustn't it!? We
:25:41. > :25:46.may get pressurised into it but John and I will talk with Michael
:25:46. > :25:50.and Aidan and decide. I'll let you pose for the photograph I know you
:25:50. > :25:53.will treasure for the rest of your life as he joins his co-owners of
:25:53. > :25:56.this extraordinary horse,ical lot. What a performance that was. For
:25:56. > :26:01.all the confidence in him beforehand and through his two-
:26:01. > :26:04.year-old career and over the winter, he still had to come here and do it
:26:04. > :26:09.and cope with the whole occasion, make sure he had the clean run
:26:09. > :26:14.through that Joseph managed to negotiate to try and come and cope
:26:14. > :26:21.with the track. Joseph there going into the jockeys' room and making
:26:21. > :26:26.his way through. A price I'm sure I'll be given now, what price?
:26:26. > :26:31.on Camelot is to complete the triple crown and do what no colt
:26:31. > :26:41.has done since Nijinski and add the St Leger to the 2000 Guineas and
:26:41. > :26:44.
:26:44. > :26:54.the Derby. Let's confirm the one, two, three for you. Let's also
:26:54. > :27:07.
:27:07. > :27:11.of attention on beforehand, Connections said he didn't handle
:27:11. > :27:15.coming down the hill. Ryan Moore who rode Astrology put in a good
:27:16. > :27:23.performance and said he got tired. Hayley Turner aboard Cavaleiro
:27:23. > :27:33.simply not good enough. Ted Durkan and lan began ran a cracking race -
:27:33. > :27:37.
:27:37. > :27:44.- Lanagan ran a cracking race, no real excuses in finishing second.
:27:44. > :27:50.As for Thought Worthy, representing Connections of John Bewick and John
:27:50. > :27:55.Gosden, they think the St Leger will be his ultimate target. John
:27:55. > :27:59.magistrate ner with me now, the senior figure from the Ballydoyle
:27:59. > :28:04.team -- Magner. Of the good horses you have seen in your time, where
:28:04. > :28:07.does he rate? Clearly, he must be right there. I don't want to say
:28:07. > :28:11.too much about him because it would sound kuend of Boastful but it's
:28:11. > :28:17.there for everybody to see really and we are just fortunate to have
:28:17. > :28:22.anything to do with him, especially in the year when his father died,
:28:22. > :28:25.so it's particularly important. the son of a winner, I suppose
:28:25. > :28:29.he'll inherit the mantling at your stud, but between now and then,
:28:29. > :28:33.there are races to be won and a name for him to be made in his own
:28:33. > :28:38.right, so what happens next? Absolutely, we are going to have to
:28:38. > :28:42.take it race by race and we are going to have to give it a lot of
:28:42. > :28:46.thought. Do you want to win the triple crown with him? Well,
:28:46. > :28:49.wouldn't anybody. It's interesting though because not many people have
:28:49. > :28:55.attempted it and you have that chance with this horse? We are all
:28:55. > :28:59.so old now, these things get to mean more when you are older. If
:28:59. > :29:07.you asked me 30 years ago, I would have looked the other way, but
:29:07. > :29:11.we'll see what Michael and Derreck say about it. You did this with
:29:11. > :29:14.Pour Moi last year. With age does that mean more too? We are just
:29:14. > :29:19.going through a good patch at the moment on the other hand can happen
:29:19. > :29:23.and it comes and gs so we have to saver the moment. Enjoy it. Thank
:29:23. > :29:28.you very much -- comes and goes so we have to savour the moment. For
:29:28. > :29:38.Aidan O'Brien, it's ten years since he last won the Derby, so a moment
:29:38. > :29:39.
:29:39. > :29:49.classics are concerned this year in Great Britain. As he can say, he is
:29:49. > :29:58.
:29:58. > :30:02.heading for a clean sweep, Aidan package, won the 1,000 Guineas.
:30:02. > :30:08.Camelot is completing the classic double by winning the Double. Now,
:30:08. > :30:11.the St Leger, they are talking about that, when you go back to
:30:11. > :30:21.Nijinski's day, there were plenty of other options. Let's see what
:30:21. > :30:30.
:30:30. > :30:35.Royal Highnesses, lords, ladies and gentlemen, the presentation of the
:30:35. > :30:38.2012 Investec Derby, and are on the stage to make the presentation we
:30:38. > :30:42.have the captain of the Great Britain hockey team who will be
:30:42. > :30:48.competing in the Olympics later this summer, Kate Walsh, and
:30:48. > :30:54.without the net dans des Arkan de from the sponsors, Investec. What a
:30:54. > :30:59.race horse we have witnessed. Add the Derby to his success in the
:30:59. > :31:04.2000 Guineas, he may become the first colt to complete the Triple
