:00:37. > :00:39.Hello, just 27 days on from the World Cup, here we are again for

:00:40. > :00:42.all the drama, intrigue and thrills from the Sky Bet Football League.

:00:43. > :00:47.And with me to reflect on the opening weekend

:00:48. > :00:50.of a brand new season,? a regular on the show -

:00:51. > :00:52.former Fulham and Bristol City striker Leroy Rosenior.

:00:53. > :00:53.And alongside Leroy, we're delighted to have another

:00:54. > :00:57.ex-striker who called time on his 13 year playing career in the summer.?

:00:58. > :01:02.He scored goals right across the three divisons.

:01:03. > :01:04.With spells at Reading and Portsmouth -

:01:05. > :01:10.it started at Cambridge and finished at Oxford? -

:01:11. > :01:16.Anyway, here's what's coming up on our first offering of the season.

:01:17. > :01:19.Making their first appearance back in the Championship in 13 years,

:01:20. > :01:24.in Saturday's late game at Mick McCarthy's Ipswich Town.

:01:25. > :01:27.We have the best of the action from a cracking opening match

:01:28. > :01:34.Our featured game comes from Griffin Park as newly-promoted

:01:35. > :01:41.Brentford welcomed Charlton for a full blooded London derby.

:01:42. > :01:43.After their brief stay in the Premier League,

:01:44. > :01:51.Cardiff started life back in the second tier at Blackburn Rovers.

:01:52. > :01:55.We'll see how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side got on at Ewood Park.

:01:56. > :01:58.And one of the big stories of the summer was yet another

:01:59. > :02:02.As they prepare for their opening game at Millwall -

:02:03. > :02:14.one of football's most notorious and demanding owners.

:02:15. > :02:18.Having paid a record ?11 million for striker Ross McCormack

:02:19. > :02:21.in the close season, Fulham manager Felix Magath has made a big call

:02:22. > :02:24.in a bid to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

:02:25. > :02:28.started life back in the Championship at Ipswich Town.?

:02:29. > :02:30.Mick McCarthy awarded a debut to Hungarian summer signing

:02:31. > :02:33.Balint Bajner up front while Felix Magath picked eight debutants,

:02:34. > :02:37.including last season's Championship top scorer, Ross McCormack.

:02:38. > :03:03.That is a terrific save. At full stretch. Great delivery. Fulham,

:03:04. > :03:11.short of numbers at the back. The 20-year-old, Hewitt, with a corner

:03:12. > :03:20.kick. The drive, always fizzing wide. The question was, did the

:03:21. > :03:27.goalkeeper get a finger to that? Great vision. Good pass. Ofcom 's

:03:28. > :03:41.Tim Hoogland, full of running, so far. -- goes. A Rush of blood to the

:03:42. > :03:46.head. Felix Magath, 12 Premier League games in charge bringing 12

:03:47. > :03:59.once last season, not enough to keep Fulham in the top flight. -- 12

:04:00. > :04:07.points. That has come out as far as Skuse. Difficult to keep that down.

:04:08. > :04:17.A good effort. Spilled by the keeper. And a great recovery. It was

:04:18. > :04:24.an earlier error from Dean Gerken, but how quickly he redeemed himself.

:04:25. > :04:32.Here come Ipswich with Daryl Murphy. Murphy, Ipswich Town take

:04:33. > :04:43.the lead. To some extent, against the run of play. Murphy blazed past

:04:44. > :04:51.Hutchinson. And that was a very calm finish past the rookie goalkeeper.

:04:52. > :04:59.Mings, stretching those long legs of his. Picking out Murphy. On his left

:05:00. > :05:05.foot, this time. That is his favoured foot. He took his time to

:05:06. > :05:12.pick the past. Murphy, finding space, but he could not find the top

:05:13. > :05:19.corner. A good flick on from Moussa Dembele. Nicely brought down. Sizing

:05:20. > :05:37.up the chance. He goes for gold. A familiar story for Felix Magath. His

:05:38. > :05:49.side trailing at half-time. Getting away from Hewitt. And Dean Gerken

:05:50. > :05:54.not required. That was a nice move from the visitors. The pass from

:05:55. > :06:01.Ross McCormack, slightly behind Dembele. And how about this? It is

:06:02. > :06:07.the ?11 million man, Ross McCormack, who makes way. His debut

:06:08. > :06:17.for Fulham lasted less than one hour. That goes Hutchinson. Murphy

:06:18. > :06:26.has got the better of him. And it comes out to McGoldrick. 2-0,

:06:27. > :06:36.Ipswich! David McGoldrick is back doing what he does best. 2-0 might

:06:37. > :06:48.be enough to see off the challenge of relegated Fulham. Shaun

:06:49. > :06:58.Hutchinson were Fulham debut ends. And on comes another teenager,

:06:59. > :07:05.17-year-old Patrick Roberts. Chambers. Hewitt, in support.

:07:06. > :07:12.Chambers might not need it. It is a lovely cross. That was a gilt edged

:07:13. > :07:19.opportunity. It raised the crossbar. George Burley, the former

:07:20. > :07:29.Ipswich manager who guided them into the Premier League, way back in

:07:30. > :07:36.2000. Mings slips. Hoogland getting away, and it is a deflection,

:07:37. > :07:41.Hoogland will claim it. Smith will not want it. Is there still a

:07:42. > :07:46.glimmer of a chance for Fulham to get something out of their first

:07:47. > :07:55.game in the Championship? The slip from Mings, so significant. Hoogland

:07:56. > :08:01.just chanced his arm. Parker, driving Fulham forward. He has a man

:08:02. > :08:09.to his left hand side. It is Eisfeld. This is Roberts. It was

:08:10. > :08:20.almost a dream story therefore Patrick Roberts. -- there, for

:08:21. > :08:32.Patrick Roberts. This is Roberts. Now Woodrow. Roberts has gone for

:08:33. > :08:43.the return. Another deflection. And this time, Dean Gerken and Ipswich

:08:44. > :08:50.are fortunate. That was a good way to start the season, wasn't it? It

:08:51. > :08:56.was, wasn't it? I totally agree. It was hard work achieving it. But it

:08:57. > :09:01.is three points. Good result for Ipswich on the opening day. Their

:09:02. > :09:05.fans might have been fearing the worst because failing to hold onto a

:09:06. > :09:13.lead was one of their hallmarks last season. They conceded possession.

:09:14. > :09:17.They knew that Fulham would have the majority of it. They have hit them

:09:18. > :09:27.well on the counterattack and scored terrific goals. They just contained

:09:28. > :09:33.Fulham all the game. How much of a result was that for your former

:09:34. > :09:38.club? I don't think people expected them to be in charge this year but

:09:39. > :09:43.it was the right decision to try and rejuvenate them. They went down with

:09:44. > :09:50.a little bit of a whimper. A lot of young players brought in. They have

:09:51. > :09:55.got to learn very quickly. They have got to deal with the power, pace and

:09:56. > :09:58.aggression of the Championship and they did not do that very well, but

:09:59. > :10:05.there were some good pastor their game. All eyes were on the new ?11

:10:06. > :10:10.million signing for Fulham, Ross McCormack, but he was taken off at

:10:11. > :10:16.half-time. Roberts, the youngster, caught the eye. He was only on for

:10:17. > :10:23.15 minutes but he did catch the eye. He gave impetus to that Fulham

:10:24. > :10:27.performance. He has had a good upbringing. I think he will play a

:10:28. > :10:32.major part in this season for Fulham. Some big clubs are looking

:10:33. > :10:41.and they will have to keep hold of him. He can have a positive effect

:10:42. > :10:44.on the season for Fulham. It was great for Mick McCarthy to see both

:10:45. > :10:49.of his strikers getting on the scoresheet. What about Fulham, with

:10:50. > :10:55.all of the changes that have gone on? Do you expect them to be still

:10:56. > :11:02.challenging? They have got the nucleus of a very good side. Scott

:11:03. > :11:06.Parker was exceptional today. He had young legs around him. He was able

:11:07. > :11:13.to bring them into the game, call we Woodrow, for example. Roberts is

:11:14. > :11:22.another good find and able do well to hang onto him. Let's see how the

:11:23. > :11:26.other newcomers got on in the Championship, starting with Cardiff.

:11:27. > :11:28.The Bluebirds got their campaign underway at Cardiff -- at Blackburn

:11:29. > :11:43.on Friday night. That would like a handball. And

:11:44. > :11:47.referee Andy madly has had instructions from his assistant on

:11:48. > :11:53.this nearside, and it is Cardiff City who are penalised. Handball,

:11:54. > :11:58.this nearside, and it is Cardiff but was it just inside the penalty

:11:59. > :12:10.area? Tom Cairney, straight into the wall. That looked like it was just

:12:11. > :12:17.inside the penalty area. Andrew madly, watched by the new refereeing

:12:18. > :12:26.supremo, Howard Webb, who has retired from refereeing. Connelly

:12:27. > :12:30.has come to the edge of the Blackburn penalty area. Peter

:12:31. > :12:36.Whittingham with the free kick. And Kevin Jones. On the end of the touch

:12:37. > :12:46.from Hudson. Cardiff City get the first goal of the new football

:12:47. > :12:46.league season. Cardiff had cause Blackburn problems from previous

:12:47. > :12:49.corner kicks. league season. Cardiff had cause

:12:50. > :12:56.Blackburn problems You can see the central defender with a touch on,

:12:57. > :13:11.Hudson. And in, by Ken Wynne Jones. -- Ken Wein Jones.

:13:12. > :13:20.Tom Cairney places it perfectly past David Marshall and Blackburn Rovers

:13:21. > :13:27.are back on level terms. Peter Whittingham dispossessed by Jordan

:13:28. > :13:33.Rhodes. Kenny, creating a little bit of room for himself, curling it away

:13:34. > :13:41.from David Marshall. And it is all square at Ewood Park. Delicate ball

:13:42. > :13:52.in. And not too far over from Rudy Gestede. Very promising start to the

:13:53. > :14:04.second half from Blackburn. That has got to be a foul. He is lining this

:14:05. > :14:13.up against his former club. Craig Conway. David Marshall did not even

:14:14. > :14:17.attempt to make a save. You could have felt sorry for yourself because

:14:18. > :14:24.you could have had a penalty in the first minute. I think so. It is a

:14:25. > :14:29.clear handball. And the timing of the incident is irrelevant. It is a

:14:30. > :14:37.penalty in our eyes. It was in the box. We are disappointed we did not

:14:38. > :14:42.get it. But we recovered well. Tonight, the supporters will be

:14:43. > :14:49.happy, but a point away from home against one of the favourites. It

:14:50. > :14:52.was a good return. A meeting of two clubs who experienced the best and

:14:53. > :14:59.worst feelings at the play-offs at Wembley back in May. Derby have to

:15:00. > :15:03.regroup after missing out on the top flight with virtually the last

:15:04. > :15:09.kick. Judging from their start, therapy to no long-lasting effects.

:15:10. > :15:13.Simon Dawkins fired in a warning as the Millers try to find their

:15:14. > :15:18.bearings. The home side came forward again. Cyrus Christie clean-up

:15:19. > :15:25.Johnny Russell, who was thwarted brilliantly. Then Rotherham began as

:15:26. > :15:30.King questions. The header stopped on the line by Will Hughes, and

:15:31. > :15:35.Kieran Agard failed with a follow-up. And as the Yorkshire club

:15:36. > :15:39.closed in on what would have been an excellent opening-day point, there

:15:40. > :15:45.was a goal from Jeff Hendrick. No wonder he is winning so many

:15:46. > :15:52.admirers. What are displayed more of that never say die attitude that got

:15:53. > :15:58.them over the line last season. Then Kieran Agard appeared destined to

:15:59. > :16:05.score. Craig Forsyth came to the rescue to assure Steve McClaren's

:16:06. > :16:11.side of a winning start. They didn't get the goal and got restricted but

:16:12. > :16:15.kept our patience and kept playing, kept possession. Eventually we have

:16:16. > :16:21.got the quality to win games. We are disappointed. We have lost a good

:16:22. > :16:27.team and we frustrated them and we were the better team for long

:16:28. > :16:32.periods. Plenty of positive things to draw from four Steve Evans.

:16:33. > :16:40.We saw there, no shame in losing away to Derby County. Rotherham

:16:41. > :16:47.frustrated the opposition for large spells. Let's not patronise them,

:16:48. > :16:50.they wanted to go there and get something and they deserved

:16:51. > :16:57.something from the game. They scored 86 goals in League 1 last year. They

:16:58. > :17:00.looked like they will try to do the same thing in the Championship. They

:17:01. > :17:05.cannot be as open as they wear, last year. That was as good an away

:17:06. > :17:10.performance as you will see this season and they deserved something

:17:11. > :17:15.from the game. That is what Steve McClaren wanted. Just to blow away

:17:16. > :17:20.any talk of a possible hangover from Wembley. They are up and running

:17:21. > :17:26.with a good victory over Rotherham. They will be there or thereabouts at

:17:27. > :17:32.the end of the season. The bookies have them as title favourites. They

:17:33. > :17:37.have lost that thing of being an unknown quantity that they had last

:17:38. > :17:39.season but they are good side. And Steve McClaren is a canny enough

:17:40. > :17:47.courage to get them out of that league. We saw Cardiff playing

:17:48. > :17:52.against Blackburn on Friday night. Not quite the explosive start their

:17:53. > :17:56.fans were looking for. Taking into consideration what happened last

:17:57. > :18:05.season, is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer right man to take them up? He wanted

:18:06. > :18:09.to go there and make a statement. You need a balance in the

:18:10. > :18:13.Championship. Cannot throw all of your eggs in one basket. Do not

:18:14. > :18:19.think that he had a plan bee for that game. He's not experienced at

:18:20. > :18:24.this level. You could say that about a lot of managers. He needs to find

:18:25. > :18:27.a balance. Maybe just the sort of player to give those attacking

:18:28. > :18:34.players a platform to do their best. Well, it's been 21 long years since

:18:35. > :18:37.Brentford took their place in the Last season's League One runners-up

:18:38. > :18:41.began life in the Championship at home to a new-look Charlton side,

:18:42. > :18:44.in a London derby. Mark Warburton gave debuts to new

:18:45. > :18:46.signings Alex Pritchard, Moses Odubajo and Andre Gray,

:18:47. > :18:49.while Bob Peeters included no fewer than seven debutants

:18:50. > :19:13.in his first Charlton line-up. Good period of possession. It goes

:19:14. > :19:20.wide, first shot at goal. Alex Pritchard has been brought in from

:19:21. > :19:21.shooting positions, and a first sight of goal from the Tottenham

:19:22. > :19:37.signing. Pritchard kept it in. A

:19:38. > :19:48.disappointing shot. Good work from Pritchard. But the left foot was

:19:49. > :19:53.very easy for Henderson. Berg Gudmundsson has opened them up,

:19:54. > :20:00.a great opportunity and a great save. Found himself one on one, and

:20:01. > :20:07.David Button stood tall. A great chance for the visiting side.

:20:08. > :20:23.A good pass from a corner. It took a deflection and Henderson parried it

:20:24. > :20:34.away behind. It did just take a deflection on the way through.

:20:35. > :20:50.Better from Charlton at the start of the second half.

:20:51. > :21:16.The header came back, and a good save, and of the post. Charlton come

:21:17. > :21:22.close again. Brentford had the best home record last season, only beaten

:21:23. > :21:32.on three occasions on an outstanding promotion season. This is better.

:21:33. > :21:34.Great, and Henderson saves. Once again, it is Pritchard with a

:21:35. > :21:53.delivery. And the header. Vetokele showing quick feet.

:21:54. > :22:02.Cousins. That took a touch from a Brentford boot, and it has gone

:22:03. > :22:12.behind for a corner. Jackson will take it. Right in on the line and

:22:13. > :22:17.into the back of the net, Charlton have scored! Vetokele, right on the

:22:18. > :22:26.line with the keeper. Button may have appeared to have bashed it into

:22:27. > :22:33.his own net. Vetokele will claim it, right in front of the celebrating

:22:34. > :22:34.Charlton fans, Charlton in front. First touch for substitute Tommy

:22:35. > :22:51.Smith. The keeper hesitated for a moment,

:22:52. > :23:03.Western -- Button was way out of range. Effectively an open goal. And

:23:04. > :23:10.the substitute spurns the chance by the narrowest of margins and

:23:11. > :23:25.Brentford stay in the game. Crashing away from the crossbar.

:23:26. > :23:39.Still plenty of attack, all the way through for the Tommy Smith. Smith!

:23:40. > :23:50.An equaliser for Brentford, from the debut boy Tommy Smith. It found a

:23:51. > :23:56.way through. And the former Cardiff man marks his first team debut with

:23:57. > :24:03.a goal which might just save Brentford on this opening day. A

:24:04. > :24:05.horrible deflection from Ben Haim, but Smith will want to claim it,

:24:06. > :24:24.Brentford have a leveller. The referee will give a free kick.

:24:25. > :24:29.Proschwitz. Could be dangerous. Jackson has been penalised and

:24:30. > :24:33.Brentford, with an opportunity, 25 yards out.

:24:34. > :24:46.It looked like Judge. Oh! I don't think Henderson was getting to that

:24:47. > :24:58.one either. A brilliant effort from Judge. Up, over, from the top of the

:24:59. > :25:04.crossbar. Corner to Brentford. Time is

:25:05. > :25:12.starting to wind down. Is there a fairy tale finish to a first day

:25:13. > :25:19.back in for the Brentford fans? Very deep, prop Schmitz got there.

:25:20. > :25:24.Setting up Smith but not this time. -- Proschwitz. He did well to keep

:25:25. > :25:33.that one alive. What an introduction for Tommy Smith.

:25:34. > :25:38.Games can change so fast, you were close to 2-0 down.

:25:39. > :25:43.We should have been, in all fairness. Tommy is a quality act. He

:25:44. > :25:49.showed his experience and got the goal. I am delighted for him and for

:25:50. > :25:53.the team. It wasn't our best performance but we will learn.

:25:54. > :25:59.Did you think it might have been all three points.

:26:00. > :26:07.We still needed to play for the one point, they had fresh legs. We

:26:08. > :26:14.missed 2-0 in an open goal. That is football, if you do not take the

:26:15. > :26:20.moment. Three open chances away from home, you need to put the ball in

:26:21. > :26:23.the net. I am happy with the way my team looked solid at the back. We

:26:24. > :26:34.created chances. It opened up at the end, plenty of

:26:35. > :26:39.encouraging signs. Who would have been happier? I think Brentford,

:26:40. > :26:46.having come from behind. Charlton missed a succession of chances.

:26:47. > :26:47.Bob Peeters alluded to that, a solid start which could have been

:26:48. > :26:58.spectacular. Charlton had some really good

:26:59. > :27:02.chances, that was Tucudean. His first touch was right in front, his

:27:03. > :27:08.second was more less in front of him, he should be rolling back to

:27:09. > :27:13.the side of the keeper. But straight at Button. An opportunity for the

:27:14. > :27:20.substitute who came on, it should have been in the back of the net.

:27:21. > :27:27.Unfortunately lifted it to high onto the crossbar. That would have made

:27:28. > :27:34.it 2-0. And given Brentford a lift. When they did get back into the

:27:35. > :27:41.game, they did go for it. Though these were neat and tidy in

:27:42. > :27:45.possession. They didn't have too many clear-cut opportunities. In the

:27:46. > :27:51.end, experience told. Yes, they ran the game for the first

:27:52. > :27:57.20 minutes. It highlights the importance of taking your chances.

:27:58. > :28:05.Quality, Tommy Smith. Technical ability. What Brentford will learn

:28:06. > :28:09.at this level is their enthusiasm was great, attitude spot on, that

:28:10. > :28:23.extra bit of quality from Smith was crucial. As the season progresses,

:28:24. > :28:28.they will need experience. Charlton has a lot of experience in

:28:29. > :28:42.the side. They are no pushovers. Ben Haim and he is a good defender.

:28:43. > :28:48.A solid back five there. Now, to an interesting summer,

:28:49. > :28:51.to say the least, at Leeds United. Where, despite initially failing the

:28:52. > :28:53.Football League's fit and proper persons test, owner Massimo Cellino

:28:54. > :28:56.not only successfully appealed the ruling, he then raised more eyebrows

:28:57. > :28:59.in the close season, by appointing a head coach who was previously

:29:00. > :29:01.in charge of Conference Premier Well, in the build-up to

:29:02. > :29:05.the club's opening game at Millwall, what better way to help

:29:06. > :29:30.Dave Hockaday acclimatise in his new Football's odd couple, a flamboyant

:29:31. > :29:35.Italian with Iraq sheet of criminal convictions who in 22 years in

:29:36. > :29:41.Calgary changed his manager 26 times. And a teetotal manager who

:29:42. > :29:46.has never managed in the Football League.

:29:47. > :29:54.Tell me the story, how did you get the gig?

:29:55. > :30:00.I got a phone call from an Italian man, he said he had been asked to

:30:01. > :30:06.find a coach and would I be interested? We talked football for

:30:07. > :30:13.five hours. During the conversation, he said, I want you to be my head

:30:14. > :30:22.coach. What are you thinking? Do you know the full ramifications of

:30:23. > :30:27.appointing Mr nobody? You go quick, quick, then slower,

:30:28. > :30:32.and lower. Did you tackle him on his track

:30:33. > :30:37.record of managerial recruitment and changing? Does it concern you what

:30:38. > :30:41.he has done in the past? That is history. I have been given an

:30:42. > :30:49.incredible opportunity, I will give it my best shot.

:30:50. > :30:54.All the transfer acquisitions, are they coming from his direction?

:30:55. > :31:00.We are throwing all the names in together. We do her work on the

:31:01. > :31:07.players. He has said no to my suggestions, and vice versa. People

:31:08. > :31:12.are trying to make a big thing of this. There is no knocking of horns,

:31:13. > :31:18.we are singing from the same sheet. I am in charge of the team. I pick

:31:19. > :31:26.the team, run the game on a Saturday, done.

:31:27. > :31:31.Hand on heart, did you know much about the new gaffer? I spoke to my

:31:32. > :31:35.mate at Leyton Orient and he knows him, he said he is a really good

:31:36. > :31:42.coach. It gave me a positive feeling. You have to give everybody

:31:43. > :31:50.a chance. He has had a good effect on the boys. What has gone on over

:31:51. > :31:55.the last decade, eighth permanent manager, it is astonishing.

:31:56. > :32:01.You cannot change history, you can learn from it. People have been in

:32:02. > :32:04.before and it hasn't worked. My job is to make all of these players help

:32:05. > :32:10.themselves and become better players, that is my job. We are a

:32:11. > :32:12.team and we need to get better in every department. We will work as

:32:13. > :32:31.hard as possible to achieve that. They were chasing the game after

:32:32. > :32:36.only eight minutes, Beevers got the opener.

:32:37. > :32:43.The big chance came and went in minutes into the second, this fumble

:32:44. > :32:47.fell nicely for Nicky Ajose. But Noel Hunt was denied his first ever

:32:48. > :32:54.League goal. Millwall resumed their dominance, Martyn Woolford had a

:32:55. > :33:00.strong case for a penalty after tangling with Murphy. But the

:33:01. > :33:11.referee Oliver Langford said no. The lines were awarded a spot kick.

:33:12. > :33:18.After this challenge from Lewis Cook.

:33:19. > :33:24.Williams scored from the spot. Unbeaten now in their last nine

:33:25. > :33:27.games. Our motto is stronger together and

:33:28. > :33:35.hopefully we can prove to be that. It is a great start.

:33:36. > :33:39.They dealt with the moments better. We had to learn from that and pick

:33:40. > :33:45.ourselves up and crack on for the next game.

:33:46. > :33:54.Millwall have had a good pre-season. And a comfortable win at home.

:33:55. > :34:00.Leeds, what do you make of what has gone on over the summer in terms of

:34:01. > :34:06.Massimo Cellino, the president decision to appoint David Hockaday?

:34:07. > :34:11.Dave got a phone call out of the blue, a five hour chat from the

:34:12. > :34:18.Channon, that is great. Good luck today. You grab it with both hands.

:34:19. > :34:23.-- the chairman. I have never heard anything like it in my life before.

:34:24. > :34:29.A situation where you see Dave on the training ground, head coach on

:34:30. > :34:35.his own. If things go well he should get the credit, but if not, he will

:34:36. > :34:38.get all the flak. It is almost unfair he has been put in this

:34:39. > :34:45.situation. He is in the firing line. It was the

:34:46. > :34:52.manner of defeat against Millwall. He didn't need that. If someone

:34:53. > :34:59.offers you the job, you grab it. I am sure he will do the best he can.

:35:00. > :35:05.What he did not need today was the level of performance which puts

:35:06. > :35:14.unnecessary pressure on the next game. That is Accrington Stanley. It

:35:15. > :35:21.is interesting he said they sit down and decide on players. The chairman

:35:22. > :35:30.has said no to him and he said no to the chairman. But four Italians have

:35:31. > :35:33.been signed. He should be put in charge to pick his players and so he

:35:34. > :35:39.can live and die by his own decision. Do you expect the

:35:40. > :35:46.relationship to last the season? I think he will do the best he can.

:35:47. > :35:57.If the club have any problems they will come from above.

:35:58. > :36:00.Right, time to round up the rest of the Championship action

:36:01. > :36:03.from the first day starting at the Amex, where former Liverpool captain

:36:04. > :36:03.Sammy Hyppia was taking charge at Brighton for the first time.

:36:04. > :36:07.The visitors were Sheffield Wednesday.

:36:08. > :36:14.Sami Hyypia was up against Sheffield Wednesday again in his opening

:36:15. > :36:16.English managerial assignment. Kazenga LuaLua try

:36:17. > :36:22.English managerial assignment. course for this match. It was an

:36:23. > :36:27.early start for Kieran Westwood on his Wednesday debut. Former Fulham

:36:28. > :36:32.keeper David Stockdale made his first appearance for Brighton. He

:36:33. > :36:37.came off second best when Giles Coke let fly. The problems increased the

:36:38. > :36:42.Brighton after the break when cross found Hutchinson. The referee went

:36:43. > :36:52.straight for the red card. With the loss of their most influential

:36:53. > :36:55.midfielder, and the signing of St Johnstone striker Stevie May was

:36:56. > :37:00.revealed during the game as the Yorkshire club continue to

:37:01. > :37:11.strengthen. Westwood foiled Chris Grady to keep the point secure. The

:37:12. > :37:15.red car did not make it any easier. When you get a red card when you are

:37:16. > :37:25.trailing 1-0, it is not an easy task. The challenge for the players

:37:26. > :37:31.was to get off to a good start. In the end, at 1-0 up, I thought we

:37:32. > :37:36.controlled the game. It is fair to say neither of these clubs kick off

:37:37. > :37:39.the new campaign of the most in the preseason thoughts of those

:37:40. > :37:42.discussing who might be part of the race for the Premier League. The

:37:43. > :37:47.opening day is time be optimistic. There was no lack of buoyancy

:37:48. > :37:51.amongst those gathered in the West Yorkshire sunshine. But for

:37:52. > :37:56.Huddersfield fans that feeling lasted for precisely 25 seconds

:37:57. > :38:00.before Marc Pugh gave Bournemouth a grip on the game that they never

:38:01. > :38:05.lost. Selling louis Grabban to Norwich looked to have hampered the

:38:06. > :38:09.prospects for the Cherries, but some of the cash was spent on Callum

:38:10. > :38:13.Wilson from Coventry, and that already looks like good business.

:38:14. > :38:18.Huddersfield had to score the next goal to make it up contest and

:38:19. > :38:22.Oliver Norwood almost raised their spirits, but it was game over

:38:23. > :38:26.straight after half-time, as Yann Kermogant picked up the pieces after

:38:27. > :38:33.Alex Smithies could not hold onto that header. Huddersfield then

:38:34. > :38:39.simply disintegrated. A disgrace was how manager Mark Robins described

:38:40. > :38:44.their performance. Some up by the second for Wilson. It could have

:38:45. > :38:50.been even worse. Joel Lynch short-changed Alex Smithies who then

:38:51. > :38:56.tumbled Wilson, for a penalty. The goalkeeper then denied him a debut

:38:57. > :39:01.hat-trick. But it was of no concern to Bournemouth and no consolation to

:39:02. > :39:05.Huddersfield. We restricted them to have chances from distance. We were

:39:06. > :39:11.professional in our approach and saw the game out that the end. We did

:39:12. > :39:19.not form to any sort of level. It was not good enough. After a strong

:39:20. > :39:24.finish to the end of last season there was plenty of optimism at the

:39:25. > :39:28.Riverside this time round. Daniel Ayala met a corner from Grant

:39:29. > :39:32.Leadbeater. And it was a lead they did not look like pulling clinching.

:39:33. > :39:38.That was one Spaniard on the scoresheet, soon to be followed by

:39:39. > :39:41.another, Kite, as he likes to be known, and announced his arrival in

:39:42. > :39:49.the second half, after some poor defending. He tucked away a debut

:39:50. > :39:53.goal. At just short of ?3 million, it could prove to be money well

:39:54. > :39:57.spent. And following a free kick straight from the training ground,

:39:58. > :40:02.he should have doubled his tally. This was one of several smart stops

:40:03. > :40:13.from Darren Randolph that kept the score down. There were no effort on

:40:14. > :40:17.the Middlesbrough goal. In possession of the football, we were

:40:18. > :40:29.extremely negative. The statistics tell you that story. It was perfect,

:40:30. > :40:40.because the team was perfect since the first whistle and we have two go

:40:41. > :40:47.again, but we are a very good team to play the way that we are. At an

:40:48. > :40:51.arduous week at the City Ground ended happily with Stuart Pearce

:40:52. > :40:56.celebrating an opening day win. The new boss had been needled by the

:40:57. > :41:03.sale of Karl Darlow, but the bill has been sugared by the arrival of

:41:04. > :41:06.?7 million worth of striking talent, with Michail Antonio making his

:41:07. > :41:12.debut, opening the scoring 24 minutes in. Alongside Antonio was

:41:13. > :41:19.the new record signing, Britt Assombalonga. ?5.5 million secured

:41:20. > :41:23.him from Peterborough. On the evidence of this showing" like money

:41:24. > :41:27.well spent. It might be a free transfer that is the best bit of

:41:28. > :41:31.business for Forest this summer. Chris Burke was out of contract when

:41:32. > :41:36.he left roaming and was quickly snapped up by Stuart Pearce. His

:41:37. > :41:39.fabulous goal made it a winning return to the Forest hot seat for

:41:40. > :41:47.Stuart Pearce after a seven-year absence. Blackpool could only name

:41:48. > :41:52.four substitutes for this game, and only one with outfield experience.

:41:53. > :41:59.Andrea Orlandi had a good chance, but the lack of bodies told, and

:42:00. > :42:05.Forest won the game comfortably. I am proud of my players for different

:42:06. > :42:09.reasons. In the short term, we had to prepare for this game and to get

:42:10. > :42:15.enough players. Just enough players to play this game. Their behaviour

:42:16. > :42:25.was good. They trying to do their best all during the game. We hope

:42:26. > :42:28.that as a group, of staff and players, we can galvanise

:42:29. > :42:32.performances like that and make the owner proud of what we are trying to

:42:33. > :42:40.achieve at the club. On his first full season, Beppe Sannino now has

:42:41. > :42:44.his own team in place. Keeping Troy Deeney is probably the best bit of

:42:45. > :42:48.business. 17 minutes of the new campaign was all it took for him to

:42:49. > :42:56.eat the Bolton defence and no doubt spark more interest from clubs at

:42:57. > :43:02.higher levels. Two seasons ago, 39 goals from him and Matej Vydra took

:43:03. > :43:09.Watford close to pollution. There was no let up in the second half as

:43:10. > :43:14.Paredes showed that he has a shot to be feared. Ten minutes from the end,

:43:15. > :43:20.the Bolton back line was opened up with ease that manager Dougie

:43:21. > :43:26.Freedman found alarming. Fernando Forestieri capitalised. Chung Yong

:43:27. > :43:30.Lee went close to do consolation goal for Bolton, but there was

:43:31. > :43:37.nothing to take the edge off the excitement for the home side. We

:43:38. > :43:41.have got two striker scoring, winning 3-0 at home, it is a pretty

:43:42. > :43:46.good start. We need to make sure that it does not happen again. It is

:43:47. > :43:51.uncharacteristic for us to make these mistakes. We will just move on

:43:52. > :43:57.very quickly. The Reading manager and Wigan owner started the season

:43:58. > :44:03.with a selfie and then focused on getting their clubs back into the

:44:04. > :44:12.Premier League. Wiggin took the lead against the run of play. Martyn

:44:13. > :44:15.Waghorn put the ball into the path of Callum McManaman to put the

:44:16. > :44:18.Latics ahead. Reading were the better side before they equalised.

:44:19. > :44:23.To say that that game, unlikely source was the understatement of the

:44:24. > :44:28.opening weekend. Sean Cummings with his first league goal. Wigan were

:44:29. > :44:36.rattled by more directly from the Royals. It was not long before

:44:37. > :44:43.another member of the Reading back for got onto the scoresheet. The

:44:44. > :44:51.free kick routine was rounded off by Sean Morrison. And nobody picked up

:44:52. > :44:56.James McArthur, who ensured that both these potential contenders both

:44:57. > :45:03.took a point. The first half, a typical Championship opener. Long

:45:04. > :45:09.balls, from Reading. I thought that we competed well. We got the ball

:45:10. > :45:13.down in the first half. The difference between the teams was

:45:14. > :45:19.Callum McManaman. He looked good in the first half. The second half

:45:20. > :45:23.performance was not just about spirit, we dominated the game for

:45:24. > :45:27.long spells. We put ourselves in a good position away from home. And we

:45:28. > :45:35.came away with something that is important. Wiggin was one of my tips

:45:36. > :45:41.to do well this season. And you like the way that the Royals came out

:45:42. > :45:45.with a point. I did not know what to expect today, but they acquitted

:45:46. > :45:50.themselves very well. They have lost some players. It looks like they

:45:51. > :45:53.will bring some in. And with the nucleus of the squad that they have

:45:54. > :45:59.it could be good times coming back to Reading. Bournemouth, biggest

:46:00. > :46:05.winners of the day, 4-0 at Huddersfield. Everything that's

:46:06. > :46:17.deemed to be able to go their way, went their way. And the great away

:46:18. > :46:21.win on the first day of the season. It was a nice start for Eddie Howe.

:46:22. > :46:30.Not so good for Huddersfield. They have picked up where they left off

:46:31. > :46:34.with some poor home form. Matty fright and Assombolonga in the

:46:35. > :46:39.middle. Against a Blackpool team, similar to Leeds, whose chaotic

:46:40. > :46:47.summer was reflected by their performance. A lot of people thought

:46:48. > :46:52.that Blackpool would get hit for five goals today, and the fact that

:46:53. > :46:56.they didn't is good for morale. I think we will see a lot of goals

:46:57. > :47:05.from Forest this year. Watford have got some good strikers, some new

:47:06. > :47:10.faces and some old, new faces. Troy Deeney is coveted by some Premier

:47:11. > :47:16.League clubs. And now Matej Vydra is back after that loan spell at West

:47:17. > :47:20.Bromwich Albion. That pace gives a manager options at Watford. I think

:47:21. > :47:24.they could get back on track. It was an impressive performance from them

:47:25. > :47:30.today. Really looking forward to the rest of the season for them.

:47:31. > :47:32.To League One now, which proved to be the division

:47:33. > :47:35.for goals last season, boasting not just 39 more than

:47:36. > :47:38.the Championship, but a whopping 182 more goals than in League Two.

:47:39. > :47:40.So, could it pick up where it left off?

:47:41. > :47:42.Our first round up starts with two teams relegated

:47:43. > :47:55.after just one season in the Championship, Yeovil and Doncaster.

:47:56. > :48:03.It was Rovers who found their feet fastest, Curtis Main went clear, his

:48:04. > :48:19.finish was perfection. A tough summer for the fans. Harry Forrester

:48:20. > :48:31.put Doncaster two clear. The Yeovil response was this James Hayter

:48:32. > :48:36.effort against the crossbar. Paul Dickov decades -- dedicated this to

:48:37. > :48:44.his fans. A good day's work for Doncaster.

:48:45. > :48:51.Between them, these two fielded 15 new players but it was a stalwart

:48:52. > :48:57.which gave a scare, Josh Simpson beat Adam Davies but not the post.

:48:58. > :49:06.Then, the Turning Point, Jennings seeing red on the opening day after

:49:07. > :49:11.reacting to a challenge. Crawley have never lost their opening match

:49:12. > :49:18.in three seasons. MacLeod opened his account to maintain that record.

:49:19. > :49:26.The red card was pivotal in the result. When you are down to ten men

:49:27. > :49:36.it makes it more difficult. Crewe Alexandra saw an opening

:49:37. > :49:46.defeat against Fleetwood. The second half was moments old.

:49:47. > :49:54.Fleetwood took the lead barely a minute later, new man Jamie Proctor

:49:55. > :49:58.teaming up for the opener. A half-time substitute, Proctor made

:49:59. > :50:04.all the difference, sealing the points with a debut goal of the

:50:05. > :50:12.highest calibre. Just after the hour, Inman was brought down in the

:50:13. > :50:18.box by Hogan. Matt Tottle made life easy for the goalkeeper Maxwell.

:50:19. > :50:23.Saunders was brought down in injury time. Fleetwood had done more than

:50:24. > :50:38.enough for their first ever win. The Chesterfield boss described this

:50:39. > :50:51.as the sternest test they could have had. It took Boco only seven minutes

:50:52. > :50:57.to put them in front. Striker Owen Doyle hit the post just before the

:50:58. > :51:05.break. Before opening up a two goal lead 11 minutes from time.

:51:06. > :51:16.A crucial goal as well, Darius Henderson scrambled a late one on

:51:17. > :51:19.his debut and you sense the east Londoners will get over this set

:51:20. > :51:25.back pretty quickly. Not a lot in the game. I thought we

:51:26. > :51:30.had three great chances in the first half but we didn't get that. Fair

:51:31. > :51:42.play to Chesterfield, they hung on and got the result.

:51:43. > :51:50.Replacing their missing striker wouldn't be hard, and the winning

:51:51. > :51:56.goal came from Carl Vassell. It dampened home spirits.

:51:57. > :52:03.I thought we played really well against good opposition. Previously

:52:04. > :52:08.in League One they had been promoted. We stood up to that

:52:09. > :52:13.challenge. But as I said to the players, good sides lose football

:52:14. > :52:17.matches. Scunthorpe were hoping to build on

:52:18. > :52:26.momentum from the promotion drive but Swindon put paid to that. After

:52:27. > :52:38.three minutes, this goal turned in from Byrne. Michael Smith increased

:52:39. > :52:42.the lead after 12 minutes. Paddy Madden has a history of scoring

:52:43. > :52:48.goals at this level and he kept his cool. As half-time approached, the

:52:49. > :52:53.home team gave themselves breathing space, this drive seemed destined

:52:54. > :52:58.for the corner but Smith got a lucky break and bagged his second. Neither

:52:59. > :53:10.side managed to add in the second half. Marcus Williams lashed out at

:53:11. > :53:14.Nathan Thompson and was given a red card. A good start to Swindon who

:53:15. > :53:20.should be in contention again this term.

:53:21. > :53:29.Swindon have started as they meant to go on and on Saturday. A couple

:53:30. > :53:35.of standout performances. Doncaster, 3-0 winners at Yeovil. Considering

:53:36. > :53:37.the way they went down on the final day of the season, a terrific way to

:53:38. > :53:50.put that to the back of your mind. The second of three goals. It was

:53:51. > :53:54.devastating the way they went down. If you are going to have someone in

:53:55. > :54:14.charge who can deal with that, Paul Dickov, believe me, he has

:54:15. > :54:23.galvanised that side. I'm sure the goalkeeper would make

:54:24. > :54:29.the same poor decision again. He has made a Rudd for his back,

:54:30. > :54:34.Gary Johnson. He will be disappointed they got relegated from

:54:35. > :54:37.the Championship last season. He will try to get some energy back

:54:38. > :54:46.into the club. It may take some time but he has the right man. I like the

:54:47. > :54:52.way Leyton Orient have gone about in the transfer market. Orient did well

:54:53. > :55:00.last season. What a win this is for the men.

:55:01. > :55:04.Chesterfield are a good team. They are a fantastic team, they play

:55:05. > :55:11.football in the right way. A good result. Are you surprised

:55:12. > :55:16.they kept hold of Gary Roberts? He was Player Of The Year last season.

:55:17. > :55:20.I am more surprised someone hasn't snapped him up.

:55:21. > :55:22.More from League One now, starting with Saturday's early kickoff

:55:23. > :55:24.at Brammall Lane, where promotion favourites Sheffield United were

:55:25. > :55:27.hoping to continue the momentum they showed at the end of last season

:55:28. > :55:32.The Blades were at home to Bristol City, another side tipped to

:55:33. > :55:54.A good run from Mark Little, a decent cross, Wilbraham scores! A

:55:55. > :55:58.long wait, Aaron Wilbraham on his competitive debut, he opens the

:55:59. > :56:07.scoring for Bristol City. Despite the best efforts that Howard made in

:56:08. > :56:17.the goal. A free kick for the home side. A

:56:18. > :56:22.line of seven purple shirts looking to deny it. Slipped in by Higdon.

:56:23. > :56:28.Just like Wilbraham, she scores on his debut. Then Davies with the free

:56:29. > :56:47.kick, guided in by Higdon. Wilbraham neatly on, and a goal for

:56:48. > :57:01.Bristol City! The flick on, Wade Elliott with Aaron and airing

:57:02. > :57:13.volley. Campbell-Ryce. Falling here, oh! It stayed out. It was

:57:14. > :57:18.Flynn who got it clear. I thought we got control of the game

:57:19. > :57:22.in the second half. Something we are proud of coming to a really good

:57:23. > :57:26.club like Sheffield United. There will be up there at the end of the

:57:27. > :57:31.season. They have a really good squad, good manager.

:57:32. > :57:37.We had a good spell, after they took the lead, controlled the rest of the

:57:38. > :57:42.first half. Second half, we went a bit flat but the game did in

:57:43. > :57:48.general. They got the goal out of nothing and we did our best for the

:57:49. > :57:53.equaliser but did not manage it. Having acclimatised to life back in

:57:54. > :58:00.League One, Bradford are looking to push on this season, with plenty of

:58:01. > :58:05.positive signs. Billy Clarke gave Hansen the opportunity. Coventry

:58:06. > :58:14.were back on terms before the interval. Reader Johnson nodded the

:58:15. > :58:18.Sky Blues level. These summer signing from Sheffield Wednesday,

:58:19. > :58:23.Johnson has been handed the armband at Coventry, a key figure in this

:58:24. > :58:29.one. Five minutes into the second half, he was spotted marking Hansen

:58:30. > :58:33.rather tightly and referee Mike Dean awarded Bradford the penalty. Alan

:58:34. > :58:43.Sheehan was successful from the spot. Before the match, Phil

:58:44. > :58:50.Parkinson had impressed. But, late on, it looked like the Bantams would

:58:51. > :58:53.have to settle for a draw. 89 minutes on the clock, Johnson made

:58:54. > :59:01.amends for his earlier mistake, firing a second goal. There was

:59:02. > :59:06.still time for Bradford to snatch all three points, another inviting

:59:07. > :59:10.cross from Jason Kennedy brought about the requisite bullet header

:59:11. > :59:19.from Hanson. One of the games of the day in League One.

:59:20. > :59:26.Colchester began last season with an excellent victory at Gillingham.

:59:27. > :59:30.After Okuonghae gave them the perfect platform, they looked

:59:31. > :59:34.capable of a winning start. Celebrations under way after seven

:59:35. > :59:38.minutes. But the latter it were a much improved side after the

:59:39. > :59:48.appointment of Johnson as manager in March. Jonathan Forte struck the

:59:49. > :59:54.equaliser. He arrived again five minutes before the interval. Brian

:59:55. > :59:59.Wilson with the cutback. This summer recruit from Southampton was

:00:00. > :00:04.enjoying a brilliant debut. It was another new signing who grabbed a

:00:05. > :00:09.point for Colchester. West Ham youngster George Moncur, on as a

:00:10. > :00:13.substitute, lurking in the corner of the box, after this shot came back

:00:14. > :00:27.from the woodwork. Excellent entertainment. League One

:00:28. > :00:32.teams should have known by now not to give McDonald sight of goal. The

:00:33. > :00:41.opener here on seven minutes as he and his team made a terrific

:00:42. > :00:46.stance. MK Dons found him too hot to handle,

:00:47. > :00:51.goalkeeper David Martin was clumsy when faced with McDonald, the

:00:52. > :00:59.outcome, a penalty. Put away by the composed head while.

:01:00. > :01:06.And opening-day shock was looming. How often does a goal before the

:01:07. > :01:18.break change a game? This one, an own goal from Hause. The goalkeeper

:01:19. > :01:24.suffered a suspected broken down. A debut goal for Grigg tied the game

:01:25. > :01:31.at 2-2. Two minutes later, the home side led this -- the first time.

:01:32. > :01:39.Comeback complete for Kyle McFadzean. The day which began so

:01:40. > :01:51.well ended with a second own goal by Gillian.

:01:52. > :01:57.-- Gillingham. We dominated large parts of the game. Gillian tried to

:01:58. > :02:06.frustrate us but we played with patience and built up the play.

:02:07. > :02:11.The biggest blow for Walsall and in some was the departure of Andy

:02:12. > :02:17.Butler. The new look back line didn't make a great start,

:02:18. > :02:24.presenting Pope with the chance he could have finished with his eyes

:02:25. > :02:30.closed. The Saddlers were worth a point and their sum of recruits

:02:31. > :02:38.combined, Ashley Grimes picking out Bradshaw. This one finished all

:02:39. > :02:43.square. -- summer. Since avoiding relegation on the

:02:44. > :02:47.final day, Notts County have brought in 14 players and let 17 go. Their

:02:48. > :02:55.squad faced a difficult task at Preston. Jake Cassidy fired the

:02:56. > :03:03.Magpies ahead. Up till then, Preston had been frustrated by Roy Carroll.

:03:04. > :03:07.He was eventually beaten by Joe Garner. 19 goals last season. His

:03:08. > :03:16.first visit campaign was typically well taken.

:03:17. > :03:30.Notts County, seconds away from recording a huge victory. Steve,

:03:31. > :03:37.call it the perfect start, but that was a huge one.

:03:38. > :03:45.The bookies favourites, you can see why both these sides are there.

:03:46. > :03:49.Sheffield United played well in the first half. This is the goal from

:03:50. > :04:00.Wade Elliott. He will be really influential. More of a playmaker. He

:04:01. > :04:05.was a winner at Bournemouth. The way City play with him being one of

:04:06. > :04:12.three midfield players, that suits him perfectly. He has plenty in the

:04:13. > :04:19.tank. And a nice flick from Aaron

:04:20. > :04:24.Wilbraham. A chance meeting with Steve Cottrell in Dubai led to his

:04:25. > :04:30.signing. It does happen. It worked out very

:04:31. > :04:38.well for him. A tremendous result. And MK Dons, four goals, turned

:04:39. > :04:45.around in a matter of minutes. I think it was five minutes, four

:04:46. > :04:51.goals. On the opening day, to come back from two goals down.

:04:52. > :04:59.A fantastic turnaround. His fifth season in charge, Karl Robinson. Is

:05:00. > :05:05.it true he is under pressure. With our reputation? Still an upcoming

:05:06. > :05:11.young manager. People get impatient. He went in at a difficult time. Paul

:05:12. > :05:17.Ince had left, not many wanted to take the job. He settled the club

:05:18. > :05:28.down. He has done really well. And again this season.

:05:29. > :05:33.League Two now, and a momentous day for Cambridge. They opened their

:05:34. > :05:48.account at home to Plymouth. United to restore their football

:05:49. > :05:54.league status and it was only ten minutes before the first law of

:05:55. > :06:00.approval echoed round the stadium. Plymouth keeper Luke McCormick at

:06:01. > :06:03.Cambridge waiting for the first football league goal since April

:06:04. > :06:09.2005, and that became a recurring theme, with quasi-Appia denied in

:06:10. > :06:14.the second half. They seem to have taken the step up in their stride.

:06:15. > :06:18.The milestone goal arrived eventually from a man who is

:06:19. > :06:22.Cambridge through and through. Josh Coulston, their longest serving

:06:23. > :06:28.player, with over 200 games for the club under his belt, scored. One

:06:29. > :06:32.loose pass almost took the shine off the afternoon, but Reuben Reid could

:06:33. > :06:38.not beat Chris Dunn. Cambridge could reflect on a perfect start. On the

:06:39. > :06:47.evidence of the first day, it was good. Secondly, we want to keep

:06:48. > :06:52.improving, and I think we can. Luton Town's five-year foot fall league

:06:53. > :07:00.exile is over and the first day back was a picture, with Mark Colin

:07:01. > :07:04.having a simple finish. Luiten scored over 100 goals last season.

:07:05. > :07:12.They had the joint best defence in the Conference. Goalkeeper Mark

:07:13. > :07:16.Tyler runs a tight ship. Paul Connolly was given the slip. The

:07:17. > :07:23.cross found Billy Paynter. Only he will know how he hit the post and

:07:24. > :07:27.not the back of the net. It was the first game back for Carlisle after

:07:28. > :07:33.relegation. They will feel hard on by, not to have taken anything.

:07:34. > :07:40.Luiten are back with a bang. -- Luton Town. There is an old saying

:07:41. > :07:46.in football, never go back to the previous club. Try telling that to

:07:47. > :07:49.James Collins. A prolific scorer in his first spell at Shrewsbury. It

:07:50. > :07:56.only took him nine minutes to find the net. Matt Tubbs is part of a new

:07:57. > :08:00.strike partnership at Wimbledon and levelled the game midway through the

:08:01. > :08:07.first half. The Dons finished just three points clear of relegation

:08:08. > :08:11.last season and Sean Rigg, recruited on a free transfer from Oxford, put

:08:12. > :08:15.them in a winning position 16 minutes from time. It was Collins

:08:16. > :08:21.who had the final word. Arriving late to grab a point. Reminding the

:08:22. > :08:33.Shrewsbury fans that he still knows where the back of the net is.

:08:34. > :08:35.Accrington manager James Beattie spent the preseason batting away

:08:36. > :08:43.predictions that his team or struggle. James Gray almost gave

:08:44. > :08:46.them early reasons to be optimistic. Shaquile Coulthirst tempted Adam

:08:47. > :08:51.Buxton into the sort of challenge that the referee was only going to

:08:52. > :08:57.look at one way. Look Simpson quickly became a local hero by

:08:58. > :09:01.denying Barry court. The striker was then replaced by Lee Barnard who

:09:02. > :09:06.marked his 100th appearance for Southend by getting on the wrong

:09:07. > :09:10.side of Dean Winnard, and Phil Brown's men got another opportunity

:09:11. > :09:17.from 12 yards. This time, Simpson could not rescue Accrington and

:09:18. > :09:23.Southend were sent back to Essex with a winning start. Bury one of

:09:24. > :09:27.the hottest tips for in the division, but reputations are not

:09:28. > :09:36.often respected in the Premier League, and a sharp stop from Taylor

:09:37. > :09:40.was required. It was not long before he was picking the ball out of the

:09:41. > :09:47.net. The referee came to the rescue. A foul sported in the build-up to

:09:48. > :09:51.Matt Taylor's header. If David Flitcroft's member riding their

:09:52. > :09:56.luck, it was about to run out. Joe Hanks put himself in the headlines

:09:57. > :10:08.with a fantastic finish. A first senior goal, to savour. After that,

:10:09. > :10:12.according to Flitcroft, the bus. The Derry manager expects lots of others

:10:13. > :10:17.to do the same this season. Matt Richards combined with the keeper to

:10:18. > :10:28.prevent Pablo Mills from bagging the equaliser. Charlton clawed away an

:10:29. > :10:37.effort beat into stoppage time. -- deep into. Morecambe are the bookies

:10:38. > :10:40.tip for relegation from League 2. But some of those predictions could

:10:41. > :10:50.look foolish come may with goals like this. The referee saw a foul on

:10:51. > :10:54.Jake Sampson. That gave Patrick Ament the chance to put Morecambe

:10:55. > :11:03.two clear. It was a chance that he took, emphatically. -- Padraig

:11:04. > :11:11.Amond. A third goal finished off Dagenham in added time. Redshaw

:11:12. > :11:17.grabbed the goal. It was a performance that impressed. Before

:11:18. > :11:28.kick-off, there title odds were 100 to one. The bookies are never wrong,

:11:29. > :11:32.are they? ! A sickness bug swept through the club this week forcing

:11:33. > :11:39.the manager to register himself as a player. Tom Nichols nipped in for

:11:40. > :11:45.the Exeter opener. They were the much better side in the second half.

:11:46. > :11:48.Andy Barkin storming away, to be denied by Christy Pyn in goal for

:11:49. > :11:53.the Grecians. Matt Oakley eventually clearing the danger. Portsmouth were

:11:54. > :11:59.to get the equaliser that they deserve. Jed Wallace on the right,

:12:00. > :12:09.and the highly regarded youngster, the top scorer last season, finished

:12:10. > :12:15.brilliantly across the goalkeeper. It was a hard earned point against a

:12:16. > :12:28.very strong team. We had been looking vulnerable this week. We had

:12:29. > :12:32.some illness and what have you. Whickham survived by the slimmest

:12:33. > :12:38.margin on the final day of last season and they were quickly on the

:12:39. > :12:44.back foot. The match was effectively decided just before half-time. One

:12:45. > :12:48.of Whickham's nine new signings, Peter Murphy, made the most of set

:12:49. > :12:54.piece work on the training ground. And the new season optimism was

:12:55. > :12:59.doused four minutes later, when Sam Wood scurried past some nonexistent

:13:00. > :13:16.challenges to leave Paris Cowan-Hall with a formality of a penny. -- of a

:13:17. > :13:19.finish. Northampton finished too close to the relegation zone for

:13:20. > :13:23.comfort last them, say they will hope that Kaid Mohamed's debut goal

:13:24. > :13:30.will set a different tone for this season. Mansfield almost responded

:13:31. > :13:36.in kind. Matt Duke at his most agile to keep out Ryan Tafazolli. The home

:13:37. > :13:42.side, unable to clear their lines, and they held their breath when Rob

:13:43. > :13:45.Taylor took aim. Ultimately Mansfield could have no complaints

:13:46. > :13:50.about their defeat. Northampton should have finished off the match

:13:51. > :13:56.before the finish. Mark Richard squandered an excellent chance. He

:13:57. > :13:59.will feel better than Ivan Toney who looked like a certainty to add that

:14:00. > :14:09.elusive second. Never mind, Northampton are off the mark.

:14:10. > :14:17.Michael Appleton's first game as Oxford boss was against Burton. Josh

:14:18. > :14:22.Ruffels kept out by John McLaughlin. George Long was sharp on his debut

:14:23. > :14:30.and goals. Razor-sharp reflexes with Stuart Bevan on the receiving end.

:14:31. > :14:38.The decisive moment was a run from the on loan Preston man. And a

:14:39. > :14:47.strong start for the Brewers. It took us a little while to get to

:14:48. > :14:54.grips with their shape. We got to grips with that and then we coped

:14:55. > :14:58.well after that. What's disappointing from my point of view

:14:59. > :15:06.is that I would like them to be a little bit braver in the final third

:15:07. > :15:09.and take a few extra risks. Hartlepool failed to score in the

:15:10. > :15:15.first five league games last season. Jack Compton was millimetres away at

:15:16. > :15:23.Stevenage early on. The home side went close, either side of the

:15:24. > :15:31.break. There was. Save out of Hartlepool keeper Scott Flinders.

:15:32. > :15:40.Then Chris Whelpdale fired one in from just outside the box. This

:15:41. > :15:47.time, Scotland has had no answer. Tranmere have returned to the fourth

:15:48. > :15:51.tier for the first time in 25 years. Defending set pieces was a weakness

:15:52. > :15:57.in their relegation season. And Keith Lowe showed that it is still

:15:58. > :16:04.an area for manager Rob Edwards to work on. The central defender almost

:16:05. > :16:08.sealed three points in similar fashion as they look to respond to

:16:09. > :16:12.failure play-offs last season. Tranmere scrambled a point in the

:16:13. > :16:17.fourth minute of added time. Finesse is not a word that springs to mind

:16:18. > :16:18.when describing the build-up, but the finish was well received on the

:16:19. > :16:28.Wirral. What are they for the new boys,

:16:29. > :16:34.Cambridge and Luton Town. Sensational opening-day wins. You

:16:35. > :16:40.are formerly a Cambridge United player, David. For Josh Coulson, it

:16:41. > :16:49.is the stuff of dreams, scoring on their return to the foot or league.

:16:50. > :16:54.It is fantastic. To see them back in the Premier League. After nine

:16:55. > :17:00.years. They have been through the mill on and off the pitch in that

:17:01. > :17:07.time. Hopefully they can kick on. They have signed Reuben Reid which I

:17:08. > :17:11.thought was a good signing. I think that they can push on from there.

:17:12. > :17:18.Disappointing to have drawn today but they will get better. 550 mile

:17:19. > :17:24.round trip for Luton Town going up Carlisle. They have come away with a

:17:25. > :17:34.terrific win. It was a backs to the wall effort in the second half. This

:17:35. > :17:38.was a well made goal. They have lost their top scorer to Brentford. There

:17:39. > :17:44.were some concerns about whether they could keep that momentum going.

:17:45. > :17:51.And they have just carried on where they left off. John Still has

:17:52. > :17:54.massive experience of this division with Dagenham and with other teams.

:17:55. > :18:02.He's the perfect man to push them on. John Still has said that Ricky

:18:03. > :18:09.Miller reminds him of a young Kevin Phillips. Do you expect Luton Town

:18:10. > :18:17.to go up as runners-up as the bookies expect them to? Coming up

:18:18. > :18:20.from the Conference, they have got momentum. The quality and the

:18:21. > :18:28.Conference is not much different from League 2, so I do not see why

:18:29. > :18:34.not. That is your lot from us. We are back on Wednesday at five past

:18:35. > :18:41.11 was the best of the action from the Capital One cup. Join us for

:18:42. > :18:48.that. That is it. The new season is up and running. For most teams, it

:18:49. > :19:35.is a case of one down, just 45 to go. Goodbye for now.

:19:36. > :19:46.ECHOING HEARTBEATS LOW, THROBBING BUZZ

:19:47. > :19:54.I don't think I know who the Doctor is any more.
