:00:38. > :00:43.Welcome to The Premier League Show. This evening I'll be joined by Chris
:00:44. > :00:47.Sutton here at the National Football Museum in Manchester to dissect all
:00:48. > :00:51.the big stories. From tough beginnings in Birmingham, Troy
:00:52. > :00:55.Deeney's risen from non-league to the Premier League along the way,
:00:56. > :01:04.including a spell in prison in 2012. Last year he was toe-to-toe with the
:01:05. > :01:15.big boys, bagging assists and goals. IBF world heavyweight champion and
:01:16. > :01:25.2012 boxing world medallist Joshua is a champion. They were put in a
:01:26. > :01:31.room together. The undefeated Anthony Joshua.
:01:32. > :01:41.Equalising goal, and who else for the talismanic, Troy Deeney.
:01:42. > :01:49.What's happening, Boro? Nice to see you, as always. You too. Seeing a
:01:50. > :01:54.few bits on the map there. We know each other from Watford but that's
:01:55. > :02:00.not where it started. For me, Birmingham, born and raised. For me,
:02:01. > :02:09.born and raised in Watford, raised in Watford, what was it like growing
:02:10. > :02:13.up? I've seen you now, but what was it like growing up there? It's the
:02:14. > :02:17.kind of place where nobody respects the other person, you've got to get
:02:18. > :02:20.it yourself. I think that's what makes myself in football better than
:02:21. > :02:26.others is because up here I know they are not going to give it to me,
:02:27. > :02:30.I've got to take it. That's why a footballer, you see so many
:02:31. > :02:35.footballers love boxers because you don't have anybody else to blame, if
:02:36. > :02:36.you don't do the run or the gym, if you miss something, it will catch up
:02:37. > :02:49.with you. Yes. I've never followed sports or a
:02:50. > :02:53.team, I'm more individual. Like Troy Deeney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, I
:02:54. > :02:58.love them. I like the names, keep going, keep going. It's the respect
:02:59. > :03:02.for individual players. What's got us to where we are at now is the
:03:03. > :03:06.winners. Yes. I don't care what anyone says, you can be a nice guy
:03:07. > :03:10.but you have got to have that bit where you can go, forget you lot,
:03:11. > :03:12.this is my time, I've got to do what I've got to do and that's why we are
:03:13. > :03:29.where we are. The major throw backs of Mr Deeney.
:03:30. > :03:33.How old was you there? 15, 16. I was the youngest by far. They were all
:03:34. > :03:37.five, six years older than me, so they were like, Troy's good, let him
:03:38. > :03:44.play, I played with men from the age of 15. You sound like the football
:03:45. > :03:47.Mike Tyson. We used to come out this little gate here and my mum lived
:03:48. > :03:50.across the road there. Not many places you could go with your family
:03:51. > :03:57.to sit down and chill out. Socialise. And be me. And no-one
:03:58. > :04:04.comes in and goes, Troy, how much money you earn or what car you
:04:05. > :04:13.drive, it was more like, how's your mum. You know everyone. Yes. We see
:04:14. > :04:19.you here with the guns out, as always! There's a couple of things
:04:20. > :04:26.that stand out for me. Obviously, the cut on the hands. The battle
:04:27. > :04:30.wounds. Still there. I used to get in, I wouldn't call it trouble but I
:04:31. > :04:34.wasn't filled out but always tall. So for instance I could be finding
:04:35. > :04:42.myself in issues with people that are older than me when I was a kid
:04:43. > :04:50.so I had to defend myself from people seeing a little kid on the
:04:51. > :04:54.street, when I was on my BMX. When I met you in the barber's shot, we
:04:55. > :04:58.were both at a level where we were doing all right but we hadn't done
:04:59. > :05:04.anything. There was a respect that, you were like, I want to win the
:05:05. > :05:07.Olympics. It was like a five-minute conversation, but as soon as I
:05:08. > :05:13.walked out, the wife was with me, and I was like, he's going to do it
:05:14. > :05:18.because he's got the same thinking as me. It's not always about the
:05:19. > :05:25.sports, it's a mindset, how am I going to win. Yes.
:05:26. > :05:34.I know what this represents. My good days. This must be either a Flemish
:05:35. > :05:37.bond or English bond. I didn't know this represented your good days.
:05:38. > :05:42.Because this is my good days as well. I don't believe that you were
:05:43. > :05:49.brick laying. I got my certificate. You got that Yes, went college from
:05:50. > :05:54.16-18, I was earning like what, ?50 a week, all the mates were there and
:05:55. > :06:00.you were going out with ?50 a week, wearing the same T-shirt. I was
:06:01. > :06:04.getting ?80 a day, London money, so I was getting in trouble, court
:06:05. > :06:10.cases. One of the things when I went to college, when I was on bail, it
:06:11. > :06:14.shows that I'm a student, doing good things to myself, doing things back
:06:15. > :06:19.for the community, brick laying, I wasn't guilty so I got off with the
:06:20. > :06:25.court case, I was still smoking. I was still partying. I found boxing,
:06:26. > :06:29.my cousin took me. I carried on with the boxing but the brick laying days
:06:30. > :06:34.were funny days for me, man. I want to hear more about your, what, ?150
:06:35. > :06:39.a week? Yes. You should have negotiated your contract. I was at
:06:40. > :06:43.the point, I just came out of college and my mum's very much,
:06:44. > :06:49.you're not working, you're out the house, you've got to pay your way.
:06:50. > :06:55.Yes. My mate was like, yes, my uncle's got a job for us, but the
:06:56. > :07:02.problem is, it's only 150 and I'm like 150, I'm earning 50 cash in
:07:03. > :07:05.hand, so I took it and then yes. Troy does pay his taxes now! I was
:07:06. > :07:15.coming on to this actually. Approaching the ring ahead of the
:07:16. > :07:20.biggest bout of his life. Great Britain's Anthony Joshua. Is that
:07:21. > :07:27.the final? I remember this, it's when I thought, he's taking this to
:07:28. > :07:31.a street fight. Anthony Joshua. Second round I come back, they try
:07:32. > :07:36.to tell me I'm down on points, I said no way. I was locked up when I
:07:37. > :07:43.was watching this in 2012. Seriously? Yes. I remember going,
:07:44. > :07:55.that's my boy and even was like no, no, no, it's not. I remember going,
:07:56. > :07:59.knock him out. Anthony Joshua is the Olympic super heavyweight champion.
:08:00. > :08:04.When it comes up that you won, the way I was banging my door was
:08:05. > :08:08.different. It's weird, I had been boxing three-and-a-half years, had
:08:09. > :08:11.three or four fights individually, it was tournaments, so I looked at
:08:12. > :08:13.this like another tournament. We'd been copping golds from back in the
:08:14. > :08:26.day, man. Here he is. Look at this. Go for
:08:27. > :08:31.that, lad. Oh, don't do that, lad. Don't do that. No. This is when I
:08:32. > :08:44.thought I was so bad. I remember this. You know what, this is my
:08:45. > :08:48.go-to moment. I remember you belted across the pitch. You have got to
:08:49. > :08:56.remember, I started this season in jail, Boro. I missed two months. --
:08:57. > :09:05.jail bro. Here he is, bang. This is the part I hate. Watch. I was like,
:09:06. > :09:09.that's my brother, I jumped to my brother. I didn't realise how big
:09:10. > :09:14.that gap was, you know. Could have been a big ditch. When I think about
:09:15. > :09:25.it now, I think, imagine if I'd have dropped. That would have gone viral.
:09:26. > :09:31.The gold glistening there, bruv. I've seen the captain badge on that
:09:32. > :09:35.left arm. Yes, it's a proud moment. I have to say, after everything we
:09:36. > :09:38.have been through, now to be given the responsibility to actually
:09:39. > :09:43.essentially be the face of Watford, captain the whole team. Yes. And the
:09:44. > :09:47.responsibility obviously for making past mistakes now they are
:09:48. > :09:51.entrusting me that I'm that guy that can look after everybody is massive.
:09:52. > :09:55.What about Watford this season, what's your hopes? Well, the main
:09:56. > :09:58.aim for a club like ours is obviously to stay in the Premier
:09:59. > :10:05.League, but why can't we do a less II. Yes. You've got to aim for the
:10:06. > :10:10.sky, probably the best technical squad I've ever been with. Now
:10:11. > :10:18.everything's in place to be better than we were before. Yes. Deeney
:10:19. > :10:24.goes for goal and equalises. Brilliant by the Watford captain.
:10:25. > :10:29.Enough of my yellowy things over there. I can see some proper gold
:10:30. > :10:35.there. This belt, I was there that night actually. Blistering
:10:36. > :10:41.fashion... I was like yes, I know what you are feeling because for me
:10:42. > :10:57.that was like scoring at Wembley when my mum was there. These are the
:10:58. > :11:06.memories. Yes. What did I say to you? Pictures were up side down. I
:11:07. > :11:11.was like, paid all this money... These are the actual gloves I fought
:11:12. > :11:24.Charles Martin as well, so these are going for about ?500 a pop.
:11:25. > :11:31.Eve seen your journey from 15, brick laying from the old school to the
:11:32. > :11:35.new school, England call ups, what's happening next in the world of
:11:36. > :11:40.training? Same, strive for perfection. I train four hours a
:11:41. > :11:44.day. It's not a bad life. But for them four hours, I'm an animal, I'm
:11:45. > :11:48.enjoying myself and I don't think people understand it because on the
:11:49. > :11:53.pitch I'm aggressive, angry, running through people. I can play for
:11:54. > :11:57.England. If that don't come back, I can still play for Jamaica. Still so
:11:58. > :12:03.much more to do. Yes. What's behind here? Got to be something for you,
:12:04. > :12:12.definitely. Bigger than me. Let's reveal. The old punching machine.
:12:13. > :12:41.What's first? This is for you. 797. Need to think of someone that
:12:42. > :12:50.you don't like here. School... He got nervous! The thing is, once you
:12:51. > :12:56.start... You can't stop. We gotta keep going now. I think he's broke
:12:57. > :13:03.it. I actually think he's broke it, look what's happened. You kick off.
:13:04. > :13:15.You kick off. Championship game, this. Hand-eye coordination, man.
:13:16. > :13:33.There it is, oh! He's only got it! Interesting hearing them discuss
:13:34. > :13:39.their routs to success, both experienced troubled times along the
:13:40. > :13:43.way. Troy Deeney is captain, scoring goals, an incredible competitor, but
:13:44. > :13:48.how far can he go for you? He's a real handful. I like his attitude.
:13:49. > :13:54.He's much more than that, he's a real intelligent footballer and his
:13:55. > :13:57.partnership with Agalo is key, doing well in the Premier League. Without
:13:58. > :14:02.Troy Deeney, Watford are half the team. Watford have strengthened over
:14:03. > :14:05.the summer, also changed their manager again. How far do you think
:14:06. > :14:08.they are away from becoming a Premier League fixture, not a team
:14:09. > :14:10.that's always going to be flirting with relegation? I don't know
:14:11. > :14:15.whether they've strengthened. They have had a big turnover of players
:14:16. > :14:19.in the last year, they have changed managers too frequently for my
:14:20. > :14:26.liking. They need a bit of continuity, but if they keep Deeney
:14:27. > :14:30.and Agalo they'll do OK. One highlight of a goal-filled Premier
:14:31. > :14:32.League weekend, here is what else caught our eye over the last seven
:14:33. > :14:55.days. This is a derby watched the whole
:14:56. > :15:05.world over. Kevin de Bruyne, off the post. It is 2-0, city! He's lost it.
:15:06. > :15:17.First half we were better, second-half we pushed a lot. We made
:15:18. > :15:24.mistakes, we paid for the mistakes. Ighalo, another one! What a
:15:25. > :15:36.turnaround. If we carry on like this we are not going to win a single
:15:37. > :15:48.game. Here is Firminho. Superb end to a perfect day for Liverpool. Ooh,
:15:49. > :16:03.Cahill's been caught. Leroy Fer! 2-1 Swansea. Anywhere in the stadium you
:16:04. > :16:17.can see that is a foul. Ivanovic. Cost! 2-2!
:16:18. > :16:30.Ighalo, free header, Everton lead. And Lukaku with the header! The flag
:16:31. > :16:37.stays down, Lukaku on a hat-trick! Three points back to Merseyside.
:16:38. > :16:44.We are now four games in, let's look at the table. Manchester City the
:16:45. > :16:50.only team with a 100% record. Everton lifted to third. The bottom
:16:51. > :16:54.three places filled by Southampton, Sunderland and Stoke, all still to
:16:55. > :16:58.win this season. Let's talk about Everton, having struggled to 11th
:16:59. > :17:02.last season under Roberto Martinez, Ronald Koeman has come in and got
:17:03. > :17:07.off to a flying start, unbeaten in the week, what have you made of what
:17:08. > :17:12.he's done? I think Everton have got a proper manager in place now. I
:17:13. > :17:17.knew the supporters were sick of Martin is coming out of games,
:17:18. > :17:21.talking a pile of rubbish. They were serial underachievers, they should
:17:22. > :17:27.have done much better. It was fantasy football under Martinez, and
:17:28. > :17:33.now they have a realist in. And they made good signings like Yannick
:17:34. > :17:36.Bolasie, so the money is going places, and it seems to be working.
:17:37. > :17:40.I think Ronald Koeman should be trusted. He has a record at
:17:41. > :17:44.Southampton of bringing in good players. He has a record in the
:17:45. > :17:49.transfer market. Yannick Bolasie is a player I like, a real powerhouse,
:17:50. > :17:55.a threat on his day. His final ball could improve a bit. Great start,
:17:56. > :18:02.but I think they will do well under Koeman. Let's talk about Lukaku, who
:18:03. > :18:06.broke his drought in spectacular style with a hat-trick. What is it
:18:07. > :18:11.like when you have gone a period of time without scoring and you finally
:18:12. > :18:16.hit the back of the net. Lucky you've got me on, not Alan Shearer.
:18:17. > :18:20.Almost like it was strategic! I think he had lost a little bit of
:18:21. > :18:24.confidence. What I like about Lukaku, he is still young, he is an
:18:25. > :18:30.all-rounder. He's got everything in his locker. He can run in behind,
:18:31. > :18:34.link up. I think he is key for Everton. If they get him fit with
:18:35. > :18:40.his confidence up, he will score goals. Going back to the mindset, do
:18:41. > :18:46.you start to fear? I remember Lee Chapman talking years ago about when
:18:47. > :18:49.he was feeling good, you felt the goal was the size of the pitch but
:18:50. > :18:54.when he wasn't scoring it became this tiny thing and he could not
:18:55. > :18:58.even imagine scoring. I think that hesitation is a problem, when you
:18:59. > :19:04.start doubting yourself you hesitate. Good strikers anticipate
:19:05. > :19:08.things and mental strength is important. Players like Alan Shearer
:19:09. > :19:12.work at above everybody else. They were not frightened of missing. I
:19:13. > :19:15.think Lukaku is young enough and I think he will develop. I think he's
:19:16. > :19:20.a real handful already but I think he will mature and that will be part
:19:21. > :19:26.of his game, that mental side of the games. And what do you think is
:19:27. > :19:30.successful Ronald Koeman and Everton's season? I think top six
:19:31. > :19:35.would mean success. It really wouldn't surprise me. Slowly,
:19:36. > :19:39.slowly, but they are really good side. You've got a manager who will
:19:40. > :19:46.set up his team to see things and that didn't happen under Roberto
:19:47. > :19:49.Martinez. Chelsea entertaining Liverpool in the Friday night
:19:50. > :19:54.football, we asked Trevor Sinclair to look at the strengths and
:19:55. > :19:57.weaknesses. Liverpool have been sensational going forward this
:19:58. > :20:01.season. With only Manchester City scoring more Premier League goals.
:20:02. > :20:06.This will be of huge concern to Antonio Conte, especially with his
:20:07. > :20:08.captain John Terry out injured. What has impressed me most about
:20:09. > :20:13.Liverpool is their ability to open up teams, going from back to front
:20:14. > :20:19.with superb speed, and clinical finishing in front of goal. In this
:20:20. > :20:23.instance, Henderson is the end in midfield. You can imagine in three
:20:24. > :20:31.or four passes this will be in the back of Arsenal's net. Short, sharp
:20:32. > :20:34.passing. Great run off the ball by Georginio Wijnaldum. Great run into
:20:35. > :20:39.the box by Adam Lallana, he takes it well. This is what Chelsea will have
:20:40. > :20:44.to deal with. Against the defending champions last weekend, within two
:20:45. > :20:54.passes, in the back of the net. Good ball out to tempt Milner, and that
:20:55. > :20:59.was a clinical finish. We are looking at their second goal against
:21:00. > :21:04.Leicester. They looked well set up to deal with this, within three or
:21:05. > :21:07.four passes Liverpool have a goal-scoring opportunity. Third man
:21:08. > :21:11.run by Sturridge, years in on goal, on his right hand side, and for me,
:21:12. > :21:15.I know Sturridge, ten times out of ten he would go for this, he is a
:21:16. > :21:22.selfish forward and he will not mind me saying that. But there has been a
:21:23. > :21:26.change in mentality at Liverpool. He is looking for Mane, great execution
:21:27. > :21:36.of the backheel and a tap in for his mate. For Liverpool this season it
:21:37. > :21:42.is about we score, not I score. Chelsea have Diego Costa in form and
:21:43. > :21:47.back to his best. 89th minute against West Ham, London derby,
:21:48. > :21:52.looking to get the second ball. He's got the desire to get in front of
:21:53. > :21:55.James Collins, he gets there first, little bit of muscle, that's the
:21:56. > :22:02.desire. Can he settle the ball down and get the finish off? This is not
:22:03. > :22:05.luck, that is aimed there, fantastic finish, getting Chelsea three
:22:06. > :22:09.points. Here is the build-up to the equaliser Costa scored over the
:22:10. > :22:14.weekend against Swansea. Ivanovic makes himself half a yard but for me
:22:15. > :22:21.all the action is at the far post. It is hustle and bustle and for me
:22:22. > :22:24.only one man will win this battle, and as the ball goes in he gets
:22:25. > :22:29.himself in a position for the overhead kick, he knows what he
:22:30. > :22:34.wants to do, and what a finish that is, great execution. Both teams have
:22:35. > :22:38.got a lot to offer going forward. The big question is, can Chelsea
:22:39. > :22:42.deal with the creativity and movement of Liverpool? And can
:22:43. > :22:47.Liverpool deal with Diego Costa? STUDIO: I would like to address that
:22:48. > :22:51.question but first what do you make of Chelsea under Antonio Conte? I
:22:52. > :22:57.think Chelsea have had a really good start. They've beaten sides we all
:22:58. > :23:03.feel they should have beaten, but this season they've got Hazrd back
:23:04. > :23:10.to his best, and Costa back to his best. I think he goes down too
:23:11. > :23:14.easily at times but he has looked sharp and fit, and strong. He's got
:23:15. > :23:18.goals in his game. I think he will cause problems. With these two and
:23:19. > :23:22.referring to what Trevor was saying, will it come down to defensive
:23:23. > :23:27.frailties, if they do not make it to the top of the heap? I think it's
:23:28. > :23:34.going to be one hell of a game. I've got a big crush on Jurgen Klopp. You
:23:35. > :23:36.are not alone. Manchester City and Liverpool have been the outstanding
:23:37. > :23:43.teams in terms of football this season. Liverpool better than
:23:44. > :23:47.Arsenal. Tottenham were unlucky. They thumped Leicester. Liverpool's
:23:48. > :23:51.problem is defensively, inconsistency. Of all the teams to
:23:52. > :23:57.lose two, Birtley. You just worry about their style of play. It's
:23:58. > :23:59.great to watch. But can they continue the high-intensity
:24:00. > :24:03.high-pressure game throughout the season? On their day, brilliant on
:24:04. > :24:08.the eye. For Chelsea, good start, I think they'll do much better than
:24:09. > :24:12.last season. With Terry out, it is all about whether Luiz will come in
:24:13. > :24:17.and do a good job and the jury is out. Do you worry about that area
:24:18. > :24:22.for Chelsea? I do. I think they are looking somewhere back to their best
:24:23. > :24:27.going forward but defensively the big question is how Luiz will
:24:28. > :24:35.perform. We'll Conte put him in a backstreet or payback two? Winner?
:24:36. > :24:41.Liverpool. Interesting. In a week that saw Neymar launch his music
:24:42. > :24:43.career, we have been casting our ears over football and it's tricky
:24:44. > :24:54.relationship with rap music. Now you'd think with a glamorous
:24:55. > :24:59.lifestyle of a footballer, football and rap songs would go hand-in-hand.
:25:00. > :25:05.Well, that is not the case. The champions! I'm going to take it upon
:25:06. > :25:09.myself to find that one gent. This year the world of music is all about
:25:10. > :25:18.grind. If you don't know what grind is, you need to watch the news more.
:25:19. > :25:23.Let's talk about grime. That was why there was only one man to let
:25:24. > :25:32.everybody know Pogba was a red devil, Stormzy. Just because you are
:25:33. > :25:38.a world-class player, it doesn't mean you can wrap. Could Gazza play
:25:39. > :25:44.football? Yes, he was one of the best. But could he rap? No! There
:25:45. > :25:57.must be something in the water on Tyneside because even Chris Waddle,
:25:58. > :26:05.pre-Mullet got involved. Yeah, Chris. I got the feeling, too. I got
:26:06. > :26:10.a feeling that you should never pick the mike up again. Surely a man like
:26:11. > :26:18.Ian Wright is going to hook us up. Please.
:26:19. > :26:21.# If you've got nothing good to say # Just keep the peace. Wrapping
:26:22. > :26:28.eight as easy as it looks, just ask Andy Cole.
:26:29. > :26:34.# Vision like Avi did Joe Frazier. And here is Rio Ferdinand hyping up
:26:35. > :26:44.Kano. Are they at Wembley? No. They are in a dead restaurant wrapping to
:26:45. > :26:47.a waiter who just wants to go home. Now he is someone for me who is
:26:48. > :26:52.actually half decent who can actually almost rap, manlike Yannick
:26:53. > :27:00.Bolasie. Here is a clip of interrogator Bradley Roby Phillips.
:27:01. > :27:02.# That's why he went down to League 1 stop like I feel like I've been
:27:03. > :27:10.wasting our time, there's only I'm talking about the man, that
:27:11. > :27:16.myth, the legend, John Barnes, with the greatest football rap song of
:27:17. > :27:23.all time. Liverpool FC is hard as hell! Not that one! I'm talking
:27:24. > :27:29.about the world in motion. # You can be slow or fast
:27:30. > :27:34.# But you must get to the line. He can turn it on at the flick of a
:27:35. > :27:39.switch, like that # So catch me if you can
:27:40. > :27:43.# Occurs I'm in England man # What you're looking at
:27:44. > :27:47.# Is the masterplan. Some people have got it, some people just ain't.
:27:48. > :27:53.You know what I'm talking about, don't you, Kev? Basically my message
:27:54. > :28:00.to you Premier League footballers is, you need to up your game. Until
:28:01. > :28:07.then, please, don't call it reggae boy. Not sure we are going to find
:28:08. > :28:19.the next Skepta in the Premier League. Do you know who he is? No.
:28:20. > :28:23.He is a grime artist. I had singing lessons when I was at. Like if only
:28:24. > :28:25.we had more time, I would have asked you to sing. Let's look at the
:28:26. > :28:45.fixture list. A very big thank you to Chris, our
:28:46. > :28:49.singing canary. We'll join you next week here from the National football
:28:50. > :28:53.Museum in Manchester when Gary Lineker will interview Eddie Howe
:28:54. > :28:55.and go behind the scenes. Until then, goodbye. I hope your team's
:28:56. > :28:57.win this weekend.
