:00:38. > :00:39.Welcome to a very special edition of the Premier League Show.
:00:40. > :00:42.Over the next half an hour we'll show you our ten best moments
:00:43. > :00:51.from this year narrated by an array of distinguished guests.
:00:52. > :00:59.2016 has been a memorable year for so many reasons, good and bad. In
:01:00. > :01:10.England's top division, it has been nothing short of remarkable. 2016, a
:01:11. > :01:24.New Year, a new start. Goal! It's his moment! Sensational from Diego
:01:25. > :01:34.Costa! Issue me, it is magnificent. Fantastic Mr Fox.
:01:35. > :01:40.It is not sublime this game, it is totally ridiculous.
:01:41. > :02:02.What a beauty! Absolutely astonishing! So, let's
:02:03. > :02:04.get started. We begin back in February with the Premier League
:02:05. > :02:19.debut to remember. I have been watching Rashford from
:02:20. > :02:25.the age of 13, no, he just turned up. I remember the game against
:02:26. > :02:31.Arsenal thinking, who the hell is this? Has Louis lost the plot
:02:32. > :02:38.because it looked like he was doing it on a regular basis. Well done,
:02:39. > :02:43.Louis, that was magnificent. It was a great team to be playing against
:02:44. > :02:48.and on the daily looked pretty good. Louis van Gaal had few options and
:02:49. > :03:03.he had to use him. He announced himself Inspector killer fashion. --
:03:04. > :03:09.in spectacular fashion. Straightaway I'm thinking, I wish he
:03:10. > :03:15.was playing for Arsenal. Rashford again! It is all going the young
:03:16. > :03:20.man's way. All of a sudden he bangs in two goals. One of the most
:03:21. > :03:26.remarkable stories of the season. Where did this young man come from?
:03:27. > :03:29.To play centre forward for Manchester United, coming through
:03:30. > :03:33.the ranks, that is one position where I would think it would be
:03:34. > :03:39.difficult for me. Little bit surprised that he has not gone on
:03:40. > :03:45.and played more games for United. A standing ovation and rightly so.
:03:46. > :03:50.Rashford is one of those that you should give a chance. He has proved
:03:51. > :03:56.he is capable of scoring against anyone. Here's a smile on his face,
:03:57. > :03:59.joy in his Hart and magic in his boots.
:04:00. > :04:02.In just seven seasons as a manager, Pep Guardiola has won six titles
:04:03. > :04:03.in two countries and two Champions Leagues.
:04:04. > :04:19.In August, he landed at Manchester City and they got off to a flyer.
:04:20. > :04:28.It was the worst kept secret in football. When pep is announced as a
:04:29. > :04:32.manager, you're going to be excited. Since I stopped playing football at
:04:33. > :04:38.first time I have felt jealous. I would love to have a manager like
:04:39. > :04:43.Pep Guardiola. I am so excited about it. Pep Guardiola got off to a
:04:44. > :04:48.magnificent start at Manchester City and we thought he would run away
:04:49. > :04:52.with the league. They could win the league by Christmas. From minute one
:04:53. > :04:59.they changed the way that they played. You just have to admire it
:05:00. > :05:08.and Manchester City have bought a hugely competitive team. He does it,
:05:09. > :05:15.of course he does, he is the manager. For Pep Guardiola and
:05:16. > :05:25.Manchester City, today is a time of misery. Then they are losing a few
:05:26. > :05:32.games. I think we are seeing the human side. It is not easy in the
:05:33. > :05:38.Premier League. We have to be competitive. You cannot expect a
:05:39. > :05:43.team to change that much overnight. He is probably the best manager in
:05:44. > :05:49.the world. I will try to play with the ball as much time as possible,
:05:50. > :05:55.but I am sorry, I am not going to announce it. If they feels he has to
:05:56. > :06:00.adapt the formation he will adapt it but his philosophy will always stay
:06:01. > :06:04.the same. I think he is a tactical genius and it might prove successful
:06:05. > :06:09.but I think it will take a bit longer than people thought. The
:06:10. > :06:13.initial signs are positive. I think city moving forward quickly. I think
:06:14. > :06:17.it will taking time that he will get time because he is the best. I don't
:06:18. > :06:20.like to thought well of my neighbours that he seems like a good
:06:21. > :06:25.man and he is trying to play football the right way and for that
:06:26. > :06:30.you have to say well done. Pep Guardiola is looking for some advice
:06:31. > :06:35.force someone who has played in the Grimsby area, it would be
:06:36. > :06:37.goalkeeper, get the number nine, bang it in the goal. I am willing to
:06:38. > :06:41.give that advice for free. When Jurgen Klopp arrived
:06:42. > :06:43.at Liverpool he promised to bring his brand of "Heavy Metal"
:06:44. > :06:45.football to Anfield with him. But it was at Carrow Road in January
:06:46. > :06:48.where his side participated in a game that perfectly sums
:06:49. > :07:02.up his reign. Jurgen Klopp is like your mate's
:07:03. > :07:05.cool dad. He will let you stay up until ten o'clock night and he will
:07:06. > :07:10.let you have beer at Christmas. That is what he is like. When he was
:07:11. > :07:17.appointed, I don't care who you support they all went Liverpool got
:07:18. > :07:22.a top manager. He brings a vibrancy and you can see the love and the
:07:23. > :07:31.passion in the Liverpool fit. They fit. When you watch I think, what
:07:32. > :07:36.are we going to get? That is unbelievable! Bournemouth have won
:07:37. > :07:40.the game! They have become a very tense creative attacking side.
:07:41. > :07:46.They're on the front foot, an attacking team. He has put that into
:07:47. > :07:50.the team. He gets the supporters, he gets the history, he gets the
:07:51. > :07:56.players. And when you see his antics like the way he was against Norwich,
:07:57. > :08:03.the supporters love it. And it is in the net. Roberto Firmino puts
:08:04. > :08:09.Liverpool in front. No one -- no offence to in on his supports
:08:10. > :08:15.Norwich, but he is Norwich. Naismith scores on his debut. There are 3-1
:08:16. > :08:21.up. It ends up being a nine goal thriller. Liverpool straight back
:08:22. > :08:24.into it. The game was a bizarre game. Norwich were in front and
:08:25. > :08:29.looked like they would cruise the match and then Liverpool galvanised,
:08:30. > :08:44.whatever Jurgen Klopp had said, got them back in. It was just a more
:08:45. > :08:47.football. Does for- four! -- it is for- four! This is a sensational
:08:48. > :08:56.game, one of the best you will see in this era. Lallana steps up.
:08:57. > :09:02.Lallana has scored for Liverpool! Surely that is the winner. Jurgen
:09:03. > :09:06.Klopp lost his glasses and then he could not find his glasses to look
:09:07. > :09:09.for the glasses that he lost. I think everyone in Liverpool and to
:09:10. > :09:15.be fair the country just fell in love with him then. This game summed
:09:16. > :09:19.up Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp in a nutshell. He has been a real
:09:20. > :09:22.addition to the Premier League and a very likeable guy.
:09:23. > :09:25.In May, West Ham United played their 2,398th
:09:26. > :09:29.and final game at Upton Park - or the Boleyn Ground if you prefer -
:09:30. > :09:43.The question was, could the game live up to the occasion?
:09:44. > :09:52.I think whenever you play a last game at a ground, in this instance,
:09:53. > :10:00.the Boleyn Ground, I think it is always a special moment. It was just
:10:01. > :10:06.a real good, honest place to play football. It has still got that
:10:07. > :10:12.smell in the changing rooms of liniment oil and sweat, tears. You
:10:13. > :10:15.can feel it. The last game at the Boleyn Ground was incredibly
:10:16. > :10:21.emotional. I am not a West Ham but it was the drama of the occasion. I
:10:22. > :10:26.was at the match. West Ham invited all the players from over the years
:10:27. > :10:29.of it was a really nice touch. Was a fantastic evening. There were
:10:30. > :10:35.thousands of fans outside the game who could not get in. The tension,
:10:36. > :10:46.the legends, the former players around the place. To wave goodbye to
:10:47. > :10:49.such an iconic stadium and a big part of the community, it was
:10:50. > :10:51.difficult for a lot of people. Was an incredible atmosphere. They gave
:10:52. > :11:02.the team are really good send off and they gave Upton Park a massive
:11:03. > :11:08.send. A magnificent finish by Sakho! Two goals to one and that was a
:11:09. > :11:16.special goal. You could not have written that script. 2-2! When those
:11:17. > :11:24.special moments need to happen, they tend to happen. It is Winston Reid!
:11:25. > :11:28.A late winner against Manchester United of all teams, it does not get
:11:29. > :11:34.much better as far as finale is go than that. They brought the London
:11:35. > :11:42.taxis onto the pitch and one or two of the older legends. No one wanted
:11:43. > :11:47.to go home. Whenever a team moves to a new stadium, it takes time to
:11:48. > :11:54.adapt and get that familiarity that makes it feel like home. It does not
:11:55. > :11:56.feel like home yet. Forget all the memories, forget all the wonderful
:11:57. > :12:01.times at Upton Park, move on. In December, two of the Premier
:12:02. > :12:03.League's superstar managers went head-to-head as third placed
:12:04. > :12:05.Manchester City took on leaders This game promised
:12:06. > :12:24.fireworks and delivered. I am a big fan of Antonio Conte, I
:12:25. > :12:29.have been since the Euros. He got off to a tough start. Then he found
:12:30. > :12:35.a system, three at the back, that suited all his players. He has
:12:36. > :12:39.brought theatre, life, drama. I think he is a guy who really
:12:40. > :12:43.connects with his players, suffers on the sideline with the players.
:12:44. > :12:48.This was the moment in this game when everybody sat up and said,
:12:49. > :12:52.right, now we can really consider Chelsea as top candidates. That game
:12:53. > :12:56.epitomised everything about the Premier League. This is a proper
:12:57. > :13:01.game. Two teams who do not like each other and by the way, a couple of
:13:02. > :13:10.players hate each other. For the first half, Manchester City were the
:13:11. > :13:17.better team. I can remember the chance, the de Bruyne miss. If that
:13:18. > :13:23.goes in, it is a different story. I was sat there thinking they are
:13:24. > :13:31.going to get punished here. A lovely touch from Diego Costa who is in and
:13:32. > :13:38.schools. I think he has got Diego Costa back for him. And Willie the
:13:39. > :13:47.scores. From the signals I saw, I thought that as a winning type of
:13:48. > :13:50.spirit and determination. And he seals it for Chelsea. I think
:13:51. > :14:00.Chelsea were lucky to win the game but at the same time they took their
:14:01. > :14:04.chances. That was bad on David Luiz. It was an awful tackle. Towards the
:14:05. > :14:10.end of the game it was like a scene from the 70s. It was like Liverpool
:14:11. > :14:15.against Leeds. Chelsea have won eight games in a row. I think it is
:14:16. > :14:18.one of the best games I have ever seen in the Premier League.
:14:19. > :14:20.When Arsene Wenger was appointed as Arsenal manager in 1996,
:14:21. > :14:23.Ruud Gullit was the only other foreign boss in the Premier League.
:14:24. > :14:26.In October, The man dubbed "The Professor" celebrated
:14:27. > :14:43.One of the Premier League's greatest managers. You know you will get
:14:44. > :14:52.entertainment. They are always good to watch. Style, panache, trophies.
:14:53. > :14:53.A legacy. I think what he has achieved at Arsenal is just
:14:54. > :15:05.extraordinary. Manager has dominated a club to that
:15:06. > :15:11.degree. I have seen managers getting sacked after months, games. 20 years
:15:12. > :15:16.on, Arsene Wenger is just a few miles away from where his first
:15:17. > :15:20.eight years happened. When he took over, it was a bit boring, 1-0 to
:15:21. > :15:25.Arsenal, and he has brought a whole new wave of flair and style, really.
:15:26. > :15:29.I was fortunate to be in the dressing room when that change came
:15:30. > :15:33.about. A magnificent goal by the irrepressible Ian Wright. Everything
:15:34. > :15:37.changed. The diet changed. Rather than have six or seven points, it
:15:38. > :15:42.was stretching, extra training. That had never been heard of. Arsenal are
:15:43. > :15:49.the champions. Unbeaten from start to finish. The great invincible
:15:50. > :15:55.side. Thierry Henry, players like that, he shaped the whole club. He
:15:56. > :16:02.had been in Europe for 20 years. His record is extraordinary. If this man
:16:03. > :16:07.had done this at Tottenham, there would-be statues built already.
:16:08. > :16:11.Arsene Wenger makes history, winning a sixth FA Cup. The consistency of
:16:12. > :16:14.what he has produced at Arsenal has been phenomenal. Equally as
:16:15. > :16:20.extraordinary as the time he spent there is the way in which the fans
:16:21. > :16:24.have problems with them. People point out the fact that he has not
:16:25. > :16:28.won the Premier League for the last ten years. Be careful what you wish
:16:29. > :16:31.for. If Wenger is out and they bring in somebody else, it does not
:16:32. > :16:36.automatically mean that he will be better than Arsene Wenger. Arsenal
:16:37. > :16:39.have won it and on the 20th anniversary of taking charge of the
:16:40. > :16:45.club, a huge smile worn on the face of Arsene Wenger. When he hangs up
:16:46. > :16:46.his coat, people will appreciate what he has done for not only
:16:47. > :16:49.Arsenal but English football. Sunderland spent 237 days of last
:16:50. > :16:52.season below the dreaded dotted line and faced a future
:16:53. > :17:15.in the Championship. Sunderland did what they do. If
:17:16. > :17:18.anybody was going to turn it around, it was probably Sam Allardyce. What
:17:19. > :17:25.he does is simple. He goes back to basics. He is a great manager to
:17:26. > :17:28.avoid you getting relegated. If you do not win football matches, you get
:17:29. > :17:32.relegated and I want to avoid that. They had a bad spell and I think he
:17:33. > :17:37.was happy to go. I remember being at Tottenham early in the season. It
:17:38. > :17:42.didn't look like a Sam Allardyce side. You cannot pull a rabbit out
:17:43. > :17:46.of the hat at this time. I was questioning some of the moves,
:17:47. > :17:50.putting me on the left wing for a number of games. I remember talking
:17:51. > :17:55.to Jermaine, and he said, I am a striker, I don't go there. That was
:17:56. > :18:00.when it clicked that he was his main man. Jermain Defoe! Jermain Defoe
:18:01. > :18:04.could be the difference maker for Sunderland. With a guy like Jermain
:18:05. > :18:08.Defoe on your team, if you create chances, he will score goals.
:18:09. > :18:11.Sunderland now that they will be safe in the Premier League for
:18:12. > :18:14.another season if they win this game tonight. The momentum from the start
:18:15. > :18:20.of the night was with Sunderland, and you could sense that this was
:18:21. > :18:23.the occasion they were going to do it. Patrick van Aanholt has the
:18:24. > :18:31.Stadium Of Light lifting off. All of a sudden Sunderland were sending
:18:32. > :18:36.down their local rivals, Newcastle. Obviously, it would have rocked
:18:37. > :18:42.Newcastle to the core. It is in from Kone. He has got another. The fact
:18:43. > :18:47.that it was Sunderland are sent them down, it does not get worse than
:18:48. > :18:50.that. As a Sunderland fan, that is like your Christmas, birthday and
:18:51. > :18:54.wedding day on the same day. There was one job, keep Sunderland in the
:18:55. > :18:59.Premier League. Job done. I'm not sure what he was doing, it was a
:19:00. > :19:04.form of Strictly Come Dancing. He gets teams organised and makes them
:19:05. > :19:08.difficult to beat. He has had some issues since then. Some breaking
:19:09. > :19:12.news, Sam Allardyce is leaving his position as England manager. Is that
:19:13. > :19:17.your last job in football? Who knows. We will wait and see. If you
:19:18. > :19:21.sack Sam Allardyce and you are in the bottom three, you know the
:19:22. > :19:24.manager you want? Sam Allardyce. In his first spell in charge of
:19:25. > :19:26.Chelsea, Jose Mourinho enjoyed unprecedented success.
:19:27. > :19:28.But his second spell at Stamford Bridge ended
:19:29. > :19:32.This summer he was named the new manager of Manchester United
:19:33. > :19:42.and in October returned to his spiritual home.
:19:43. > :19:50.Chelsea are champions, for the second year running. Jose Mourinho
:19:51. > :19:54.has pulled it off again. In this country we have always associated
:19:55. > :19:57.Jose Mourinho with Chelsea. Seeing him back in the dugout with
:19:58. > :20:01.Manchester United, it looked a little strange. He would have wanted
:20:02. > :20:07.to go there and show that he was still the man. It is like going back
:20:08. > :20:12.with your ex, you don't want to look but you want to see what happens. I
:20:13. > :20:16.was surprised he went in the correct dugout, to be honest. The words of
:20:17. > :20:21.Jose Mourinho are so woven into the fabric of Chelsea. He knows them so
:20:22. > :20:24.well. Generally, they got a really good reception but it was a pity he
:20:25. > :20:28.forgot to tell his players that there was a match. They are in
:20:29. > :20:38.trouble. Pedro has scored four Chelsea! At 31 seconds. How about
:20:39. > :20:42.that? They might be further behind, and they are! Gary Cahill makes its
:20:43. > :20:50.two and Jose Mourinho's mange United have been blown away. -- Man United.
:20:51. > :20:53.I imagine it was humbling and possibly slightly humiliating. You
:20:54. > :20:58.could see his face. He did not know what to do. What was really strange
:20:59. > :21:04.was the fact that his team got a spanking. A lovely ball in, Eden
:21:05. > :21:16.Hazard! A wonderful goal by Eden Hazard. Antonio Conte. He might get
:21:17. > :21:20.one here. Defeat is becoming humiliation. We know it does not end
:21:21. > :21:25.there with Jose Mourinho. What he said to Antonio Conte, celebrating
:21:26. > :21:30.and all that kind of thing, Jose has never done that. We have seen him
:21:31. > :21:35.slide down on his knees on the touchline so the audacity of him to
:21:36. > :21:40.say that. I don't think we deserve this result at all. We're now
:21:41. > :21:44.starting at a new club, what I consider to be the biggest club in
:21:45. > :21:50.the world. It is all down to him now. How good is he at what can he
:21:51. > :21:51.do? I think is amazing. -- I think he is amazing.
:21:52. > :21:52.When Tottenham Hotspur visited under-performing Chelsea
:21:53. > :21:54.at the beginning of May, they still harboured dreams
:21:55. > :22:06.What transpired was a game that will go down in Premier League history.
:22:07. > :22:11.Tottenham had been knocking on the door for a long time. They are like
:22:12. > :22:20.a cat that keeps coming back for foot. More pandemonium for Spurs
:22:21. > :22:27.supporters! When you have got a young squad, you get that boyishness
:22:28. > :22:34.in terms of player. Harry Kane, a great chance. Brilliant goal! A
:22:35. > :22:41.feeling that you can beat anybody. Lamela! Spurs are running riot. A
:22:42. > :22:47.lack of experience of the high level is probably what cost Tottenham last
:22:48. > :22:58.season. The Chelsea Spurs game at Stamford Bridge, I was there. That
:22:59. > :23:02.was brilliant. It was fantastic. It was a slightly strange experience,
:23:03. > :23:05.watching that game. Normally when I watch Spurs play against Chelsea, I
:23:06. > :23:11.want them to win. And then it got to a situation where if Chelsea could
:23:12. > :23:15.get a point, Leicester would win the title. Chelsea wanted to stop
:23:16. > :23:20.Tottenham winning the league. That is how far Tottenham come. Watching
:23:21. > :23:27.that game, Spurs were dominant. Harry Kane for Tottenham who have a
:23:28. > :23:30.precious lead. It was a curious situation, having written Spurs off
:23:31. > :23:39.season, suddenly believing that it was becoming real. It was nerve
:23:40. > :23:43.wracking. It is 2-0 to Tottenham! And Spurs are on their way.
:23:44. > :23:47.Especially when Tottenham went 2-0 up, you thought, they are going to
:23:48. > :23:50.have to do it. It still might not happen. Something happened in the
:23:51. > :23:55.last 15 minutes because the team that I saw going into the dressing
:23:56. > :24:00.room after 45 minutes was different on the way out. Gary Cahill, 2-1.
:24:01. > :24:05.What next for Tottenham, what next for Leicester City? Spurs definitely
:24:06. > :24:12.had one or two mental issues during that game. The atmosphere was fiery.
:24:13. > :24:15.In danger of toppling over completely and bursting into a
:24:16. > :24:19.horrible fight. Tottenham got sucked in to playing the occasion rather
:24:20. > :24:25.than the game. They were fighting a panicking and nervous and Chelsea
:24:26. > :24:31.started to enjoy the moment. Then Eden Hazard's moment. It was just
:24:32. > :24:38.something else. Wriggling between two. You know something is going to
:24:39. > :24:48.happen. A lovely turn. And then, click, watch this. What a goal by
:24:49. > :24:55.Eden Hazard! As a Spurs man, I was like, why? And all good enough to
:24:56. > :24:59.win the title. And Eden Hazard has sunk Spurs.
:25:00. > :25:03.When Claudio Ranieri took over at Leicester City
:25:04. > :25:07.At Christmas, they were top of the Premier League
:25:08. > :25:09.but their title credentials were still being questioned.
:25:10. > :25:23.On the 6th of February 2016, everyone started to believe.
:25:24. > :25:29.You can ask pundits over all the stations in the world, and if
:25:30. > :25:32.somebody says, I put money on Leicester to win, they would have
:25:33. > :25:38.been lying. Leicester winning the league was one of the most joyous
:25:39. > :25:44.experiences of my life. And he has scored! I think it is the greatest
:25:45. > :25:47.spoke King -- greatest sporting moment in Premier League history
:25:48. > :25:50.because there is no way in the world they should have won the Premier
:25:51. > :25:58.League title, no way in the world. What a screamer! That is amazing. A
:25:59. > :26:02.staggering football story, for little old Leicester to come and
:26:03. > :26:08.beat the big boys, without a shadow of the doubt, the story of the year.
:26:09. > :26:12.The rest of us thought, they will slip up. They cannot keep doing it.
:26:13. > :26:19.They went back to basics. Simplicity, sleeves up. Socks up.
:26:20. > :26:27.Hard work togetherness. That is what it was. I think when Leicester won
:26:28. > :26:31.at the Etihad, I started to think, maybe it was just possible that they
:26:32. > :26:35.might win the league. I sort of knew they wouldn't but I thought it could
:26:36. > :26:38.feasibly happen. This has been a fairy tale story but this is where
:26:39. > :26:43.it is going to end. They will come up against the big boys and show
:26:44. > :26:51.that you are there but you are not quite there. I remember before the
:26:52. > :26:56.game thinking they could take it. They played with such belief and
:26:57. > :27:03.domination at such a tough fixture. Robert Huth, and Leicester City are
:27:04. > :27:14.in front. Leicester fought them, outplayed them, out for them. -- out
:27:15. > :27:18.thought. Wonderful skill. A situation and an individual can turn
:27:19. > :27:22.a season. No other player could have done that. That was the moment, I
:27:23. > :27:27.think, where people stood up and went, hold on a minute, Leicester
:27:28. > :27:32.might go all the way this season. Robert Huth with his second, and
:27:33. > :27:36.Leicester's third. We started to think maybe, could it? I remember
:27:37. > :27:41.texting one of the players after the game, saying I think you can do it.
:27:42. > :27:45.From that game on words, this fairy tale was really going to happen.
:27:46. > :27:50.They were going to go on and win the league. And they did. People were
:27:51. > :28:01.still writing them off with six weeks of the season to go. No way,
:28:02. > :28:06.it can't happen. Leicester winning the league in 2016 is the best
:28:07. > :28:10.football story ever. And that includes England winning the World
:28:11. > :28:19.Cup. It was just a wonderfully joyous moment. Tears did flow. Those
:28:20. > :28:21.are our top ten Premier League moments of 2016.
:28:22. > :28:23.We'll be back on Thursdays in the New Year beginning
:28:24. > :28:26.on January 12th, so please tune in for that one.
:28:27. > :28:27.Until then, have a wonderful Christmas.
:28:28. > :28:30.We'll leave you with a few moments that didn't quite make the list.
:28:31. > :28:44.Here we go again. A new season, new managers. Come on!
:28:45. > :29:05.Ambitious. Goodness me. There was quite a drop behind there.
:29:06. > :29:11.That is what is called taking everything and everyone out. But
:29:12. > :29:13.apart from that, nothing much has really changed.
