:00:45. > :00:55.the European championship, but we return with a bang this weekend and

:00:55. > :00:55.

:00:55. > :01:00.have all the action here. Coming up, after their early exit,

:01:00. > :01:06.we ask what next for Hope Powell and England? Could Liverpool's Natasha

:01:06. > :01:12.Dowie provide the answer? We are on Merseyside with the top scorer.

:01:12. > :01:16.Life after London 2012, the new BBC initiative aiming to inspire. And

:01:16. > :01:25.that is the best of the action from some intriguing contests in the

:01:25. > :01:30.Women's Super League. And with 183 caps between them, Faye

:01:30. > :01:36.White and Sue Smith are just about qualified to comment throughout a

:01:36. > :01:41.busy show. Just about! 182 and you would have no chance.

:01:41. > :01:49.A novel summer for England's women with just one point, -- a terrible

:01:49. > :01:53.summer. The World Cup qualifiers for Canada 2015 just around the corner,

:01:53. > :02:03.with the game against Belarus, so how can England regrouped to face

:02:03. > :02:15.

:02:15. > :02:19.The humiliating exit from Sweden was hard to take for the England

:02:19. > :02:25.players, after all ranked fourth and had been runners-up in the previous

:02:25. > :02:30.Euro championship. Once the England call returns from leave, and if the

:02:30. > :02:33.review will look at all aspects of the defeat to Spain and France and

:02:33. > :02:41.the draw against Russia, we're Trevor Brooking did not hold back.

:02:41. > :02:45.The performance was really poor. Flat, decision-making poor, and the

:02:45. > :02:53.enthusiasm is not there. And the Liverpool manager still cannot

:02:53. > :02:57.believe his top scorer Natasha Dowie was left at home. Natasha has been

:02:57. > :03:04.in great form, the top national goal-scorer and should have gone.

:03:04. > :03:12.Ten goals in 12 games. That would've been a good option. Some injuries to

:03:13. > :03:17.key players before the tournament took their toll. But Germany also

:03:17. > :03:23.had similar problems. However, the Euro champions did not risk their

:03:23. > :03:28.injured players and trust the young ones. Beard agrees with this.

:03:28. > :03:33.would be difficult to take too many players. Surprising there was not

:03:33. > :03:38.more rotation, especially with the Russia game, and save more senior

:03:38. > :03:42.games for the game against France. We have some good kids coming

:03:42. > :03:47.through and maybe is the time for them to get some game time in the

:03:47. > :03:54.senior team and see how they have progressed and developed. You only

:03:54. > :03:58.need to look at Germany, who won it, with some good players and the Gorge

:03:58. > :04:06.trusted them. No one could have replaced Kelly Smith, one of the

:04:06. > :04:11.world's greats. She took them to the semifinals four years ago. But an

:04:11. > :04:16.injury blunted her performance when called upon in Sweden. We need to

:04:16. > :04:20.find out why they got injured. The fixture congestion does not help. We

:04:20. > :04:24.were fortunate to have the players every day and we can manage the

:04:24. > :04:29.players with regards to health and well-being, but maybe other clubs

:04:29. > :04:34.have a lot to get in within their stations. It is the aim to help

:04:34. > :04:39.other clubs follow Liverpool's lead and bridge the technical and fitness

:04:39. > :04:47.gap with the likes of Germany and Scandinavian countries, where many

:04:47. > :04:52.players train full-time. Sometimes, with sports men and women, a

:04:52. > :04:58.different voice is needed, new ideas, fresh impetus. Not to detract

:04:58. > :05:04.from Hope Powell, who is someone to be proud of. Maybe she could

:05:04. > :05:08.continue in a development role. But just a new voice, someone to get the

:05:08. > :05:12.best out of the players. Someone that could be listened to more.

:05:12. > :05:15.It was clearly a nightmare tournament for England. For the

:05:15. > :05:23.benefit of people not following closely, what do you think what went

:05:23. > :05:27.wrong? We never got off the mark in Spain, struggling in that game. We

:05:28. > :05:32.liked real quality. Maybe gave them too much respect. With Russia,

:05:32. > :05:36.starting well, they're not scoring and allowing them into it, then

:05:36. > :05:44.always chasing the game. As the tournament went on, with the France

:05:44. > :05:48.game, changes to four nation, but not to personnel. -- changes to

:05:48. > :05:52.formation. And maybe the younger players getting a chance to play,

:05:52. > :05:55.wanting to prove our point, sometimes going out there and

:05:55. > :06:00.expressing themselves without any baggage of the player they are

:06:00. > :06:03.playing against. The disappointment was lack of quality and the fact

:06:03. > :06:08.that the team just did not seem to gel and some experienced players

:06:08. > :06:13.that did not perform on the stage like I know they can and we have

:06:13. > :06:23.watched them before. The worrying thing it was not just one game, but

:06:23. > :06:32.

:06:32. > :06:37.over three games. We were not in the races at all. The first fixture is

:06:37. > :06:43.live on the BBC. That's live from live on the BBC. That's live from

:06:43. > :06:47.That's not long away. What needs to happen between now and then? It's

:06:47. > :06:52.difficult. They have to forget the euros. They have to put that to bed.

:06:52. > :06:55.They need to work on what they need to do for. This you know, bring the

:06:55. > :06:59.youth through. Trust them. Because we've seen the likes of Toni Duggan

:06:59. > :07:03.and others, they can come on and make an impact. Trust those players.

:07:03. > :07:06.Germany did it. Other teams have done. It there's no reason why we

:07:06. > :07:10.can't. Do you expect to be in charge for that match? We know that Hope

:07:10. > :07:15.Powell has been away. There's going to be an FA review. Do you think

:07:15. > :07:18.she'll still be in charge? . personally think she will be. I

:07:18. > :07:22.don't think they'll make a rash decision now. If they haven't done

:07:22. > :07:26.it already, the FA, if there's going to be a review, which I know that

:07:26. > :07:32.Hope has always done it herself about every tournament any way, but

:07:32. > :07:35.I see her being in charge. I think just changing it straight away, just

:07:35. > :07:39.because media pressure maybe have asked for it. Rightly so, when a

:07:39. > :07:43.team doesn't perform well it comes down on the coach's shoulders. Hope

:07:43. > :07:46.will put her hands up and she has to deal with that as well. I can't see

:07:46. > :07:52.it changing now, although I do believe that she's said that she

:07:52. > :07:56.wants to have a role in this elite performance director role, which I

:07:56. > :08:00.think she always thought that would be the natural progression for her,

:08:00. > :08:03.which doesn't seem to be the case at the moment. We are all waiting. I do

:08:03. > :08:09.believe that she will be in charge and maybe within the new year, if

:08:09. > :08:14.they didn't think that she was right and they need a new voice, then they

:08:14. > :08:18.might make a change then. In terms of personnel, there's talk of the

:08:18. > :08:22.next generation of players. Could players such as Toni Duggan be

:08:22. > :08:27.brought into the starting 11? of course. Why not. Toni Duggan is a

:08:27. > :08:31.player that can bring that impact that the youth, she has no fear.

:08:31. > :08:37.There's other players, so many players that we've seen in the WSL

:08:37. > :08:41.and they constantly make an impact. There's Jenna Bonner and there are a

:08:41. > :08:44.lot of players that we've seen come through, why not let them start.

:08:44. > :08:53.Natasha Dowie missed out on a place in Sweden. The striker was in form

:08:53. > :09:00.and the WSL's top scorer is hoping to pick up where she left off.

:09:00. > :09:05.If you're a fan in Liverpool your aleaningence is either to red or to

:09:05. > :09:15.blue. It's an almost sacred divide separated by just a mile but a

:09:15. > :09:30.

:09:30. > :09:34.You crossed the great divide from Goodison Park to Anfield, was that

:09:34. > :09:38.difficult? Yeah, it was, I've been at Everton for five seasons and had

:09:38. > :09:41.great years with them. I won the FA Cup and League Cup as well. I needed

:09:41. > :09:45.a fresh start somewhere new. Liverpool's plans are really

:09:45. > :09:49.exciting. The opportunity to be training fulltime as well was a

:09:49. > :09:55.massive plus for me. It was hard, but in a way it was easy as well. I

:09:55. > :09:59.feel like I made the right decision. The set up here at Liverpool, how

:09:59. > :10:02.beneficial has that been for your game? Massively. Fitness-wise it's

:10:02. > :10:08.helped me a lot. That's always been my down fall in the past. But

:10:08. > :10:13.training every day, my fitness has real really improved. And scoring

:10:13. > :10:18.ten in 12 games has shown that it really helps. Quite a record. That's

:10:18. > :10:22.why everyone was so surprise whenned you weren't picked to play for

:10:22. > :10:26.England. Were you surprised, shocked, disappointed? Yeah, I was

:10:26. > :10:30.really disappointed. I felt I had a good first half of the season. My

:10:30. > :10:34.performance justified a place. Hope is the manager. I can't pick the

:10:34. > :10:38.team. I just have to get my head down and work harder than what I

:10:38. > :10:43.have been already. Hopefully, I'll get my chance sooner rather than

:10:43. > :10:48.later. There's an international in your family as well, uncle Ian, how

:10:48. > :10:52.influential halls he been? My uncle, when he can, gets to some of my

:10:52. > :10:55.games. He's always ringing me, seeing how I'm doing. He was centre

:10:55. > :10:59.forward. My dad was a centre half. When I need advice, he's always

:10:59. > :11:02.there on the end of the phone if I need him. Let's talk about the

:11:03. > :11:08.league. You've had your break now. You're back into it against Arsenal.

:11:08. > :11:11.That's a big game. A nice easy start (! ) It is a massive game for us. We

:11:11. > :11:15.are not underestimated that. We have the players in the team to handle

:11:15. > :11:19.that pressure. Hopefully we can have a good performance like we did at

:11:19. > :11:23.the Emirates against Arsenal. Another game against Arsenal for

:11:23. > :11:28.you, which probably brought what I imagine to be one of your best

:11:28. > :11:32.memories of this season so far, in the FA Cup. You scored a goal there

:11:32. > :11:36.in that goal in front of us. What was that like? It was a

:11:36. > :11:40.disappointing result to lose 2-1. It was lovely to score and with my head

:11:41. > :11:49.as well. Iuals pleased with the finish -- I was pleased with the

:11:49. > :11:52.finish. To in front of the cop was amazing. This be Liverpool's year to

:11:52. > :11:56.end the dominance of Arsenal for so long? They've won the league for

:11:56. > :12:00.five, six, seven years. They know what it takes to be champions. It's

:12:00. > :12:04.not going to be given to us. We have to work hard. We've worked hard for

:12:04. > :12:07.the first part of the season. Now we have to work for the second part of

:12:07. > :12:10.the season. Dowie and her team-mates went into

:12:10. > :12:13.the game against Arsenal in confident fashion, sitting top of

:12:13. > :12:16.the league and having beaten the visitors 4-0 earlier in the

:12:17. > :12:20.visitors 4-0 earlier in the campaign. Arsenal had been playing

:12:20. > :12:26.catch up, following an interrupted start to their title defence. They

:12:26. > :12:32.might have easily continued the momentum through Danielle Carter who

:12:32. > :12:35.failed to convert Ellen White's cross.

:12:35. > :12:40.That miss was soon forgotten. The Gunners took the lead on ten

:12:40. > :12:46.minutes. Jordan Nobbs with the finish. After

:12:46. > :12:56.warming the bench at the euros this was a big moment for the youngster.

:12:56. > :12:59.

:12:59. > :13:05.Arsenal doubled their advantage with Alex Scott got the tap-in.

:13:05. > :13:15.After the restart Liverpool were given the chance to halve the

:13:15. > :13:16.

:13:16. > :13:19.deficit. Dowie was brought down. But the keeper guessed right and the

:13:19. > :13:25.lead remained in tact. The scoreline was given a touch of

:13:26. > :13:29.gloss on 75 minutes. The hard work coming from Danielle Carter. The

:13:29. > :13:34.finish from Nobbs was emphatic. Two for her and three for Arsenal. With

:13:34. > :13:42.six wins from seven now in all competitions, the champions are on a

:13:42. > :13:47.We've had a break for the euros and we knew that we wanted to get off to

:13:47. > :13:53.a good start. We knew it would be a tough game. Just really glad that

:13:53. > :13:56.we've got the three points. Played well. As a team, we were very

:13:56. > :14:02.reactive.ive think they moved the ball very well. Once we conceded the

:14:02. > :14:07.first goal, we didn't skip to our -- stip to our game plan. If you don't

:14:07. > :14:11.stick to the game plan, then it goes against you. Your Arsenal side

:14:11. > :14:15.looked really up for that match, is that because of the 4-0 at the

:14:15. > :14:18.Emirates? Of course. After that game, a lot of people were writing

:14:18. > :14:23.Arsenal off thinking they haven't performed well. Even Lincoln the

:14:23. > :14:27.following game they strug lingd to score. The played well -- struggled

:14:27. > :14:30.to score. They played well. It was no revenge mission, it's just

:14:30. > :14:34.another game, we need to get our season going strongly now, this

:14:34. > :14:42.second half of the season. We have young players coming, a couple of

:14:42. > :14:45.new players and also, Kate whying Chapman coming back. -- Katy chapman

:14:46. > :14:50.coming back. Plenty more to come from the opening weekend of WSL

:14:50. > :14:53.action. Now to focus on inspiring sisters. Last summer we saw female

:14:53. > :14:57.boxers and footballers participate for the first time at an Olympic

:14:57. > :15:01.Games for Great Britain. A year on, the BBC's new Get Inspired

:15:01. > :15:05.initiative aims to preserve the legacy by inspiring people to try a

:15:05. > :15:13.new sport and to coincide with the launch we decided to pair Nikita

:15:13. > :15:17.Parris with sister and Olympic box boxer Natasha Jonas.

:15:17. > :15:22.Last summer Britain hosted an incredible Olympic and Paralympic

:15:22. > :15:26.Games which show cased sports unique ability to unite and inspire. The

:15:26. > :15:28.came was -- aim was to create a legacy and two sisters from

:15:28. > :15:34.Liverpool are showing what could be achieved.

:15:34. > :15:37.In the boxing corner, Natasha Jonas. At London 2012, she became the first

:15:38. > :15:39.British woman boxer to fight at an Olympics and reached the last eight

:15:39. > :15:42.Olympics and reached the last eight of the lightweight competition.

:15:42. > :15:47.We're very tight. She's a role model for me going to the Olympics. I'm

:15:47. > :15:53.proud of what she's accomplished. Representing football, Nikita

:15:53. > :15:57.Parris. 19-year-old Nikita Parris has risen through Everton's youth

:15:57. > :16:04.academy. She's per suing her dreams and doing what she loves. It's nice

:16:04. > :16:08.to see not only I can do that, but someone else can do it.

:16:08. > :16:15.You both love your sport. It's clear to see. What inspired you to get

:16:15. > :16:17.involved in sports? We weren't allowed to just sit around the

:16:17. > :16:20.house. We always had to do something. For me, it was finding

:16:20. > :16:25.something that I wanted to do, which was always some kind of sport.

:16:25. > :16:27.kept me off the streets. It's kept me out of trouble, even though

:16:27. > :16:30.sometimes I got in trouble for kicking a ball at the wall. But

:16:30. > :16:35.football's kept me focussed. Led you into boxing? I know originally you

:16:35. > :16:38.quite enjoyed football. Yeah, it was just one of them things. I got a

:16:38. > :16:42.football injury and I couldn't play any more. After a year of probably

:16:42. > :16:46.doing nothing, I thought no, I need to do something. I went and I loved

:16:46. > :16:50.it. It was a different thing from football. The first time I went

:16:50. > :16:53.training, I couldn't walk for like two days afterwards. I thought, I

:16:53. > :16:59.like this. Yeah, this is something I can do. Describe how you felt when

:16:59. > :17:03.you saw Tash come out for her boxing fight in the Olympics, the first

:17:03. > :17:08.British woman to ever represent Britain in boxing? It's just, I was

:17:08. > :17:16.so proud. I was crying, like, when she won her first match, I was

:17:16. > :17:22.crying. I was buzzing for her, like. It's a great accomplishment. When it

:17:22. > :17:26.got hard in boxing, did you ever think, "I miss football." There have

:17:26. > :17:29.been times I've been to watch her play a couple of times and the

:17:29. > :17:34.standard of football these days, I probably wouldn't make the

:17:34. > :17:38.under-nines. It's moved on. I'm glad to see it's moving in the right

:17:38. > :17:43.direction. BBC Sport has launched Get Inspired and it's all about

:17:43. > :17:46.encouraging people to try new sports. Whenever you are in the UK

:17:46. > :17:50.the Get Inspired initiative will show you how to get involved in new

:17:50. > :17:56.activities in your area. Just like these sisters in Liverpool, you two

:17:56. > :18:00.can be inspired by sport. This is where you learned your

:18:00. > :18:05.thing? Yeah, this is where I learned to strike a ball. Good that you've

:18:05. > :18:08.got children coming, trying out sport, getting inspired essentially.

:18:08. > :18:14.It's brilliant and you just need to have a go, try it. What's the worst

:18:14. > :18:18.that can happen? You don't like it, go on to other sport. There's a

:18:18. > :18:24.sport for everyone. You have to find the one for you. You tried boxing

:18:24. > :18:34.today. We'll say "try". I've never tried before. It was my first time

:18:34. > :18:34.

:18:34. > :18:39.on the pads. My shoulder is killing, Very impressive sisters. If that's

:18:39. > :18:41.inspired you to follow in their foot steps, then tweet us your own

:18:41. > :18:51.steps, then tweet us your own steps, then tweet us your own

:18:51. > :18:53.

:18:53. > :18:58.stories: She's in the a bad footballer! Not bad at all. For me a

:18:58. > :19:02.future England star. You speak to the Everton manager and he rates her

:19:02. > :19:06.really highly. Her work rate is fantastic. Her technique is very

:19:06. > :19:10.good. You can see the goals here. It's that enthusiasm and it's that

:19:10. > :19:17.effort that she puts in. In front of goal she's technical, she can finish

:19:17. > :19:21.chances like that. Unfortunately, this is against us, a top corner. We

:19:21. > :19:24.just have our hands on our heads. Fantastic player and definitely one

:19:24. > :19:30.for the future. She's got the right attitude. That's half of what you

:19:30. > :19:34.need. You have the ability on the pitch but you need that attitude.

:19:34. > :19:37.Possibly an England star of the future, if she carries on at this

:19:37. > :19:42.level, do you think it will be a long time before she makes the side?

:19:42. > :19:46.I don't know. She just has to keep doing what she's doing. There's no

:19:46. > :19:52.reason why she can't. Is certainly a player for the future. For now,

:19:52. > :19:56.let's see how her team got on as they kick off our round up of the

:19:56. > :20:01.weekend's action. Bristol Academy travelled to Merseyside knowing a

:20:01. > :20:06.draw would be enough to overtake Liverpool at the top of the table.

:20:06. > :20:09.Mark Samson's side don't do draws. They've had none this season in any

:20:09. > :20:14.competition. They were off to a flyer here thanks

:20:14. > :20:17.to an own goal. Everton's response was instant and brilliant. Vicky

:20:17. > :20:23.Jones providing the perfect cross for her twin sister Kelly to smash

:20:23. > :20:33.home. 1-1 after 15 minutes Andujar exciting game.

:20:33. > :20:37.

:20:37. > :20:45.Everton then -- minutes and already It was then 2-1. When Toni Duggan

:20:45. > :20:51.saw her shot strike the arm in the penalty area, the referee pointed to

:20:51. > :20:54.the spot. Duggan took the penalty. She found the net again here to add

:20:54. > :21:00.to her hat-trick the last time out. The deciding goal came in the second

:21:00. > :21:08.half. It was another moment to forget at the back for Everton. Of

:21:08. > :21:12.A third league win in a row for Bristol, who finish the weekend

:21:12. > :21:16.three points clear of the rest. Lincoln versus Birmingham was a

:21:16. > :21:22.meeting of clubs desperately searching for improvement and
