:00:42. > :00:48.Good evening. A busy bank holiday in the Women's Super League: Manchester

:00:49. > :00:51.City looking to make it five wins in a row this afternoon and it remains

:00:52. > :00:55.to be seen if they will get their hands on the WSL one trophy although

:00:56. > :01:01.one of their players has got their hands on some silverware. The

:01:02. > :01:14.women's PFA players Player of the Year. Christensen! City lead. Isabel

:01:15. > :01:20.Christiansen with the header. It may fall for Christiansen mussel!

:01:21. > :01:23.Christiansen with the header. It may fall for Christiansen She doesn't

:01:24. > :01:29.miss those. It's another quality finish from Isabel Christiansen. --

:01:30. > :01:36.it may fall for Christiansen! The players Player of the Year, Isabel

:01:37. > :01:41.Christiansen. Yes, we are delighted to be joined by the newly crowned

:01:42. > :01:44.PFA Player of the Year, Isabel Christiansen. Plenty to get through

:01:45. > :01:50.with her and former Everton team-mate, Rachel Brown Finis as

:01:51. > :01:53.well. We begin in Manchester, Isabel may be injured but her City

:01:54. > :01:57.counterparts are trying to maintain a 100% record with victory over a

:01:58. > :02:05.Doncaster team still searching for their first points of season.

:02:06. > :02:07.COMMENTATOR: A slow start to last season ultimately scuppered

:02:08. > :02:11.Manchester City's title challenge, with four wins and four clean sheets

:02:12. > :02:16.so far they've not make the same mistake this time. Toni Duggan

:02:17. > :02:19.stepped off the bench and stored straightaway at Sunderland on Friday

:02:20. > :02:25.night so has earned a recall in the only change for City -- scored

:02:26. > :02:30.straightaway. Jane Ross is the top scorer with four so far. Glenn

:02:31. > :02:36.Harris has brought experience back into his defence following the 2-1

:02:37. > :02:42.defeat at Birmingham. Simpkins and Roberts replacing, and Tierney --

:02:43. > :03:04.replacing, dot-macro placing Gummer. Harris. Picking out Bronze! And Lucy

:03:05. > :03:09.Bronze scored the opening goal. It hasn't taken Manchester City very

:03:10. > :03:13.long. Lucy Bronze with her first of the season. She always provided so

:03:14. > :03:18.much energy down the right-hand side and now she has added the finish as

:03:19. > :03:22.well. Harris with another assist and it's an uphill battle for the

:03:23. > :03:27.Doncaster bells already. It failed to get anything from this game, the

:03:28. > :03:33.Doncaster Belles need to score against Manchester City for the

:03:34. > :03:37.first time this season. They are sending a second goal already here.

:03:38. > :03:45.Stokes with the cross. Scrambled parents as far as Scott! And there's

:03:46. > :03:49.the second goal. The Doncaster Belles paying a heavy price for not

:03:50. > :03:56.clearing the initial ball from Spokes. It sat up nicely for Jill

:03:57. > :03:58.Scott and two goals in three minutes looks to have set Manchester City on

:03:59. > :04:19.the way -- from Stokes. Strong play. Jill Scott keeping the

:04:20. > :04:24.ball in play and the flick! Almost a delightful third from Jane Ross.

:04:25. > :04:28.Smart saved by Nicola Hobbs. Ross has been the striker in form so far

:04:29. > :04:38.for Manchester City and that would have been an audacious goal.

:04:39. > :04:45.The clearance and Bronze with the stabbed shot which was blocked.

:04:46. > :04:52.Bronze again, Harris again, and a good save from Hobbs and the

:04:53. > :04:57.clearance from Barker. Nicola Hobbs has now made two really fine saves

:04:58. > :05:05.in the game. The latest from Paris's header.

:05:06. > :05:13.Paris, off the bar, and it is in from Ross. The third goal has

:05:14. > :05:20.finally arrived. It's Jane Ross, yet again this season, number five for

:05:21. > :05:28.her. Beatty and then Paris, the woodwork intervened. But Ross was

:05:29. > :05:34.alert to the opportunity. We finally have a scoreline more reflective of

:05:35. > :05:41.the balance of play, 3-0. Manchester City have three. They could have had

:05:42. > :05:50.half a dozen in the first half. Ross picking out as Lani! And it's off

:05:51. > :05:58.the line by Little. -- Asllani. As Lani's wait for a goal goes on. The

:05:59. > :06:04.corner drifted in towards Beattie! And that is 4-0. Jennifer Beattie

:06:05. > :06:09.with the towering header and Manchester City's dominance of this

:06:10. > :06:14.game remains absolute. She was involved in the third and she has

:06:15. > :06:15.scored the fourth. This is turning into a horrible afternoon for the

:06:16. > :06:32.Doncaster Belles. It remains one-way traffic. Here is

:06:33. > :06:37.Paris, and it is five! Kosovare Asllani finally has her goal, one of

:06:38. > :06:43.the biggest stars in European football opening her account in WSL.

:06:44. > :06:54.It is a tap in but it will mean a lot to the Swedish international.

:06:55. > :07:01.Another decent delivery. Smuggled away at the near post. The clearance

:07:02. > :07:07.off the line, and it is played back in and off the bar again! It is

:07:08. > :07:09.Paris for a second time. But this time there was nobody to apply the

:07:10. > :07:23.finishing touch. Beattie stepping in and that's a

:07:24. > :07:27.good ball, Duggan is waiting in the centre and she makes it six.

:07:28. > :07:35.Welcomer Toni Duggan has had to wait a long time for a goal today --

:07:36. > :07:39.well, Toni Duggan. Paris again with the assist. She's been involved with

:07:40. > :07:50.so many of the goals so far. Duggan was able to tuck in her second in

:07:51. > :07:58.two games. The ball from Scott. Here is Bronze, Duggan in support. It

:07:59. > :08:02.comes to Toni Duggan. Bronze with the shot! Manchester City have hit

:08:03. > :08:08.the bar again. That's the final action of the game. Manchester City

:08:09. > :08:15.scoring six, but there could have easily been ten here today.

:08:16. > :08:21.Emphatic stuff, five straight wins in the league this season, 13 goals

:08:22. > :08:26.scored, none conceded, where is it going wrong? First and foremost, the

:08:27. > :08:30.clean sheet is important because if you don't concede, you can't lose

:08:31. > :08:35.the game and that has been at the forefront of our plans over three

:08:36. > :08:39.years, to be solid at the back. And going forward, you can say we are

:08:40. > :08:43.floating at the moment, the forwards are on form and full of confidence

:08:44. > :08:47.and when you have that with a solid defence, you are destined for some

:08:48. > :08:50.success now and again. And they are doing it without you, the Player of

:08:51. > :08:56.the Year! Worried about getting back in! Suddenly, I'm doing the extra

:08:57. > :09:00.hours in the gym at the moment but the girls are doing a fantastic job.

:09:01. > :09:07.What is the key to the victory today for City? As good as City were, and

:09:08. > :09:11.we know about their rampaging full-backs and how they get up the

:09:12. > :09:17.pitch, I think the Doncaster players are struggling, they had players out

:09:18. > :09:21.of position. Square pegs in round holes, two central midfielders

:09:22. > :09:29.playing at full-back. We can see how Parris has pace to burn and she gave

:09:30. > :09:35.a torrid time for the defence. Such a simple finish, Lucy Bronze joining

:09:36. > :09:40.in. Jane Ross came off the front line, turning, and Parris gave her,

:09:41. > :09:46.-- if you give her 1-yard she's going to burn you and it was a

:09:47. > :09:52.simple tap in. That's what Manchester City have been forging in

:09:53. > :09:55.every game this season. Is that something you would say that

:09:56. > :10:00.Manchester City are working on? Certainly, we do a lot of work on

:10:01. > :10:04.the training field in exploiting spaces and adding extra numbers

:10:05. > :10:09.where we can. We can see Parris getting behind the back line and

:10:10. > :10:15.providing a fabulous assist for Toni Terrible start for Doncaster, the

:10:16. > :10:20.goal difference, -10 and they have just been promoted. You talk about

:10:21. > :10:24.square pegs in round holes, but why have they got that at the start of

:10:25. > :10:27.the season? It isn't that they are having to fill players in at

:10:28. > :10:32.full-back, they have started the season with two central midfielders

:10:33. > :10:36.playing in the left and right back positions. They are really basic

:10:37. > :10:43.errors. Looking at the analysis, not only the back line is disjointed,

:10:44. > :10:46.individual marking is really poor, and we see Manchester City playing

:10:47. > :10:51.one, two touch football, holding the ball well. There are seven players

:10:52. > :10:57.with their backs to the eventual goal-scorer, Jill Scott. When the

:10:58. > :11:03.ball gets to her, she is in yards of space, she has time to bring the

:11:04. > :11:08.ball down. Not a bad finish. Fantastic finish, she scored one in

:11:09. > :11:11.the last season, the one before that, and I'm delighted for her to

:11:12. > :11:16.have scored. Doncaster have struggled with set pieces, we know

:11:17. > :11:19.that they can win or lose games and today wasn't the deciding are for

:11:20. > :11:24.them but they don't mark placed tightly enough. Beattie pretty much

:11:25. > :11:30.getting a free header, getting away from Little. Simple bodycheck by the

:11:31. > :11:36.Doncaster Belles are sinking and they need to improve quickly.

:11:37. > :11:39.Brilliant to have you in the studio, the PFA Player of the Year. We heard

:11:40. > :11:44.about how honoured you are to have it and is a wonderful achievement,

:11:45. > :11:50.especially bearing in mind that you world one of the Lionesses. How is

:11:51. > :11:55.it coming together for you now? There is no secret, many

:11:56. > :12:01.professionals will know, you have to put in the hours and I did that. I

:12:02. > :12:06.think that is while the girls were in Canada, I wanted to be out there,

:12:07. > :12:09.I was sick of people asking me why I wasn't there, I felt I had to change

:12:10. > :12:13.something and I did that and I made a very good environment to do so.

:12:14. > :12:19.Congratulations, pleased for you. Your team-mates seem to be as well.

:12:20. > :12:24.Moving on now to a couple of teams in transition, Notts County and

:12:25. > :12:27.Liverpool meeting at Meadow Lane. For some clubs, investment brings

:12:28. > :12:33.immediate success but it hasn't been black and white for Notts County.

:12:34. > :12:37.Since rebranding two years ago many have cited the Lady Pies as dark

:12:38. > :12:43.horses but the sustained challenge for the WSL one title hasn't

:12:44. > :12:47.materialised, the loss in the cup final adding to the frustration. An

:12:48. > :12:50.overhaul at Liverpool has helped to secure back-to-back titles but an

:12:51. > :12:54.exodus of talent left them fighting at the wrong end of the table last

:12:55. > :13:01.season and further departures have raised questions about their

:13:02. > :13:07.credentials for 2016. COMMENTATOR: Both teams are really desperate for

:13:08. > :13:14.a platform for growth. Each perhaps will have been targeting this

:13:15. > :13:21.fixture to achieve that. It should make it a fascinating watch at

:13:22. > :13:25.Meadow Lane. Ellen White's return from suspension. Big boost for Notts

:13:26. > :13:28.County. She scored three times against Liverpool last season.

:13:29. > :13:40.Another player coming back, the Liverpool burden forum two Liverpool

:13:41. > :13:46.born Fern Whelan -- Liverpool born Fern Whelan. Nine new players signed

:13:47. > :13:50.by Liverpool in the off-season, seven of them starting today. Only

:13:51. > :13:59.one change to the team beginning last week's defeat to Chelsea, with

:14:00. > :14:08.Laura Coombs preferred. Greenwood recently left Notts County for

:14:09. > :14:16.Liverpool. Liverpool looking to stretch the play here. A good ball

:14:17. > :14:24.by Harding. Arriving in the penalty area for Liverpool. Only just off

:14:25. > :14:30.target from Rosie White. Instinctively she swung her leg at

:14:31. > :14:38.it and it wasn't far away. This is van. Another Dutch international in

:14:39. > :14:51.the Liverpool setup cars Vandenberg -- Vandenberg. Not far away.

:14:52. > :15:10.Nice ball for Rachel Yankey. It is brilliant! Lovely Notts County goal.

:15:11. > :15:15.Typical Rachel Yankey. Ellen White getting wide in the middle, always

:15:16. > :15:16.available for those crosses. She knew that Ellen White would be

:15:17. > :15:33.there. Rachel Yankey. Jessica Clarke in the

:15:34. > :15:48.middle. And she might get to this! Just could not get it on target. But

:15:49. > :15:58.great ball over. Picked up by Jessica Clarke. She

:15:59. > :16:03.goes alone! Sensational! She is on fire right now, Jessica Clarke, and

:16:04. > :16:09.she just proved it. A wonderful girl. Third in the league this

:16:10. > :16:29.season. Nice touch by Ellen White. The

:16:30. > :16:32.referee pointing to the spot. A penalty for a full and an

:16:33. > :16:39.opportunity for them to get back into this. Amy Turner got something

:16:40. > :16:50.to the ball, we are looking at it in slow motion. Crucial moment in the

:16:51. > :16:58.game. Callaghan -- Caroline Weir for Liverpool. It is an opportunity

:16:59. > :17:04.squandered. Bring it forward for Notts County. Ellen White will need

:17:05. > :17:13.support. Rachel Yankey making a run towards the penalty area. Wonderful!

:17:14. > :17:18.What a goal from Ellen White! A moment to remember. Players arriving

:17:19. > :17:32.in the middle but she did not need them. It is three now for Notts

:17:33. > :17:38.County. Lovely ball, Shanice Van de Sanden getting on the move. Support

:17:39. > :17:50.comes in the shape of Emma Lundh. The referee pointing to the spot,

:17:51. > :18:06.the second penalty for Liverpool. Expertly taken. Katie Zelem. Her

:18:07. > :18:12.first WSL goal of the season. Liverpool trying to force the issue.

:18:13. > :18:21.A good ball for Katie Zelem and it is in! It is another! Katie Zelem.

:18:22. > :18:31.And Liverpool have a chance to rescue a point. Two quickfire goals.

:18:32. > :18:37.For 80 minutes we were top-class. The way and played a really good.

:18:38. > :18:41.Apart from the last five or ten minutes when we did not manage the

:18:42. > :18:46.game well. But we can analyse the game tomorrow, but for today, a good

:18:47. > :18:50.performance and three points. Today we probably were not good

:18:51. > :18:53.enough and we could have taken a point but probably did not deserve

:18:54. > :18:58.it. Honesty from Scott Rogers. The

:18:59. > :19:03.wayside, Liverpool, had two thirds of possession but Notts County had

:19:04. > :19:07.the players to do the damage on the counter.

:19:08. > :19:12.Two thirds of possession Liverpool had counted for nothing. Notts

:19:13. > :19:15.County have terrific players, it all starts in the midfield. But three in

:19:16. > :19:22.midfield with Laura Bassett almost a holding role, working at play, that

:19:23. > :19:26.was effective all day. Both defensively and in attack. Laura

:19:27. > :19:33.Bassett breaking up the pattern of play. The same thing again, the

:19:34. > :19:37.triangle. All within ten yards of each other. If one does not win it

:19:38. > :19:42.then the next is there. Laura Bassett with the break-up play,

:19:43. > :19:47.Rachel Yankey has the poise and composure just to find Ellen White

:19:48. > :19:54.who is that typical forward, ready and alert in the box. Again Laura

:19:55. > :20:02.Bassett, the three of them, in midfield. Initially broken up but

:20:03. > :20:08.Laura Bassett wins the ball and a quick counter. Lovely ball through

:20:09. > :20:14.from Danielle Buet. Ellen White in acres of space. And what about this

:20:15. > :20:20.for a finish. Did really well to cut inside and she should be proud of

:20:21. > :20:29.that finish. And the goal, and left footed finish

:20:30. > :20:33.from Jessica Clarke. How will Liverpool analyse their defending?

:20:34. > :20:38.On both of those goals they should have been tighter. Jessica Clarke,

:20:39. > :20:46.her finish is wonderful to stop she cuts inside and she is a very good

:20:47. > :20:52.goalkeeper social Jessica will be pleased with that.

:20:53. > :20:58.Going down the line of the ball but again taking nothing away from Jesse

:20:59. > :21:06.Clark, that is a peach. Liverpool improved of course in the second

:21:07. > :21:10.half, two penalties awarded. What is your take on them? We have watched

:21:11. > :21:13.them numerous times. And it is still quite tough. Liverpool where

:21:14. > :21:20.improved in the second half thankfully. Shanice Van de Sanden

:21:21. > :21:25.gets ahead of Amy Turner. We watched from this angle, is it a penalty,

:21:26. > :21:30.looking at it again I think the benefit of that doubt has got to go

:21:31. > :21:35.to the attacker. Shanice Van de Sanden has done really well to get

:21:36. > :21:42.across Amy Turner and forced to make the challenge. Technically gifted

:21:43. > :21:46.player and I think she will be disappointed. And second time

:21:47. > :21:56.through Shanice Van de Sanden again getting through, Danielle Buet. Amy

:21:57. > :22:10.Turner goes to ground very quickly, it really has no caution. And Katie

:22:11. > :22:17.Zelem puts it away. No clean sheet in 11 games for Notts County. The

:22:18. > :22:26.defending, why is that? It is exciting to watch, but mainly it is

:22:27. > :22:38.individual error. You see the whole backline of not Scotty Dzagoev Notts

:22:39. > :22:44.County and they should be higher. They do not get tight enough. She

:22:45. > :22:50.has got time here to pick a spot, that is difficult for any goalkeeper

:22:51. > :22:55.to get to. What do you think of Notts County this season? They're

:22:56. > :23:01.tough to play against. We played them in the first game of the

:23:02. > :23:07.season, they have a tight defensive unit. Midfield especially difficult

:23:08. > :23:13.to get around. I think they are looking to improve. Couple more

:23:14. > :23:16.games to catch up on. And Birmingham looking to make it back to back wins

:23:17. > :23:26.after both recorded a bit treat midweek. They met at Meadow Park.

:23:27. > :23:29.A mixed start for Arsenal with early-season defeats to Manchester

:23:30. > :23:34.City and Chelsea leaving them already playing catch up on arrival.

:23:35. > :23:37.Birmingham fresh, midweek victory over Doncaster came close to taking

:23:38. > :23:43.the lead as former Arsenal forward saw her shot just past the post.

:23:44. > :23:48.Many taboos to struggle this year after a miserable campaign last

:23:49. > :23:58.season but the side enjoyed the best of the chances. This on the stroke

:23:59. > :24:00.of half-time. The hosts finish strongly as they

:24:01. > :24:04.chased a goal that would see them close the gap on the leaders. The

:24:05. > :24:10.free kick is the closest they came to breaking the deadlock. It

:24:11. > :24:15.finished without score, Birmingham the happiest of the two sides.

:24:16. > :24:18.The last two champions of WSL2 went head-to-head, both in search of a

:24:19. > :24:23.first leave it tree of the current campaign. Six minutes on the clock,

:24:24. > :24:30.Sunderland handed the perfect chance to take the lead. Beth Mead brought

:24:31. > :24:37.down by Molly Bartrip. Then the keeper could do little to stop the

:24:38. > :24:42.follow-up from the strike of about 15 minutes remaining and the referee

:24:43. > :24:49.pointed to the spot again, this time Reading Women awarded a penalty.

:24:50. > :24:54.The lady Black Cats receiving double punishment with the defender sent

:24:55. > :24:58.off. And from the resulting spot kick they pulled level through Helen

:24:59. > :25:02.Ward. Finishing all square, both sides now searching for that first

:25:03. > :25:07.win. Manchester City leading the way at

:25:08. > :25:11.the top of the WSL1 table, maximum points so far. They played five

:25:12. > :25:16.games. Chelsea had made three so they have a couple of games in hand.

:25:17. > :25:21.Doncaster still awaiting their first point of the two dozen 16 campaign.

:25:22. > :25:26.Strange to see Arsenal in that position, they have some outstanding

:25:27. > :25:31.players. You expected them to start much better. They have not hit the

:25:32. > :25:34.ground running. They have a fantastic squad with depth across

:25:35. > :25:42.every position. But if the players are not playing, there will not be

:25:43. > :25:45.happy. And if they are not communicating the reasons why,

:25:46. > :25:50.players have got to know where they stand and I'm not sure that is the

:25:51. > :25:56.case. Surprising to see Kelly Smith not even on the bench. Fara Williams

:25:57. > :26:03.not starting, these are big names and they will not be happy not

:26:04. > :26:07.playing. And Chelsea, probably expecting Arsenal to be titled

:26:08. > :26:11.coat-tails. I think Arsenal, they have a strong squad, full of good

:26:12. > :26:15.players. And I think they will be disappointed with their start to the

:26:16. > :26:20.season. And Birmingham City, your former club, they have taken four

:26:21. > :26:25.points in the last week and there picking up. A good week for them,

:26:26. > :26:29.they will be pleased. I was impressed, they had a bit of a

:26:30. > :26:33.restructure and some exciting young players. I think they will do well

:26:34. > :26:37.this season. And a full round of fixtures in WSL2 the weekend.

:26:38. > :26:44.Everton continued their unbeaten start the season, Samantha gill
