:00:46. > :00:47.There is an overwhelming force that accompanies the Williams sisters. I
:00:48. > :01:01.should know. This must be so difficult for
:01:02. > :01:07.Lindsay Davenport. First, there is the power. Brutal serving, vicious
:01:08. > :01:16.ground strokes. You hit it hard, they hated backorder. Next, there is
:01:17. > :01:20.the speed. They are athletes. Not quite as fast as years gone by, but
:01:21. > :01:26.if you think they are past it, get real. That is the point. To them,
:01:27. > :01:33.experience is no enemy. It is their best friend. They have been there,
:01:34. > :01:39.done it and when it all. They are beatable, everybody is, but trust
:01:40. > :01:43.me, it is more than a game when you are up against Venus or Serena.
:01:44. > :01:53.Standing in the way of them, a first singles semifinal for Elena Vesnina
:01:54. > :01:57.and a player who is finding her place at the top table at it more
:01:58. > :02:01.comfortable, Angellica Bell, who beat Serena in the final at
:02:02. > :02:09.Melbourne. Welcome to our platform, looking down on Centre Court and No
:02:10. > :02:12.one Court. Great words. You do yourself a disservice, because Wendy
:02:13. > :02:18.won in 1999, you beat one of the greatest players in the final,
:02:19. > :02:24.Steffi Graf. You get a little lucky now and then. It was a different
:02:25. > :02:30.era. Once Venus and Serena came, they changed the way grass court
:02:31. > :02:33.tennis was played on the women's side. Martina Navratilova came
:02:34. > :02:38.forward, Venus and Serena have dominated with their power, it was
:02:39. > :02:43.so tough to defend against. Everybody else has to step up to
:02:44. > :02:48.keep pace with them. They do, they have changed the face of women's
:02:49. > :02:52.tennis. They have so much power through the court, and the most
:02:53. > :02:56.beautiful service motions that get in so many free points, they can
:02:57. > :03:02.take driver volleys out of the air, and their movement on the court. All
:03:03. > :03:06.of us were shocked by the boxer type Speaker pages to have, their
:03:07. > :03:14.overflowing self-confidence. But they have mellowed a bit, they have
:03:15. > :03:19.mature on the tour, they have been easier around the other players than
:03:20. > :03:25.when they first burst out. The question everybody was asking, did
:03:26. > :03:28.the a first... A first semifinal for Venus, the first since being
:03:29. > :03:40.diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. Could it be her first
:03:41. > :03:43.final for ages? As far as Angelique Kerber was concerned, could she be
:03:44. > :03:48.the first German in the final since Steffi Graf 20 years ago?
:03:49. > :03:54.Venus Williams, the kid from Compton with no family history in tennis.
:03:55. > :03:58.Venus Williams, the kid from Compton who became the Queen of Wimbledon.
:03:59. > :04:08.This her 19th Wimbledon, a champion five times, but not since 2008.
:04:09. > :04:14.Venus Williams is the champion. For the fifth time at Wimbledon. She
:04:15. > :04:20.reigns supreme. At 36, the matriarch of matchplay. In her way, the up and
:04:21. > :04:24.coming star, Angelique Kerber, winner of the Australian Open, she
:04:25. > :04:30.has been in sparkling form this year. The fourth seed is the only
:04:31. > :04:35.player not to drop a set so far at the Championships this year. It is
:04:36. > :04:41.always good to win matches into sets. I know how to play on grass,
:04:42. > :04:46.to win against good players. I am looking forward to the next
:04:47. > :04:51.challenge. I still feel 26. You have this infinity that feels like you
:04:52. > :04:56.could go forever. Could Venus rising curb her enthusiasm?
:04:57. > :05:04.The Sun was shining as they walked out onto Centre Court, the stage was
:05:05. > :05:08.set. Venus looking cool and calm, she has been here many times before,
:05:09. > :05:12.her mother knows what it is like to sit and support both of her
:05:13. > :05:17.daughters. It was a nervous start for both players, no holds of set's
:05:18. > :05:22.holds of serve in the first four games.
:05:23. > :05:51.We are going to join it with Venus Williams about to serve.
:05:52. > :06:01.A fine serve. Venus' favourite serve on the outside. Kerber should move
:06:02. > :06:04.over a bit to her right. Venus like that with a bit of spin to swing
:06:05. > :07:03.away from the two hander. Neither player happy with the way
:07:04. > :07:32.they have started. Not yet. Not quite found the nice groove.
:07:33. > :07:45.A good shot from Kerber. Williams making her way in. For so long
:07:46. > :07:50.people thought of Kerber as a defensive, reactive counterpuncher.
:07:51. > :08:13.She really becomes offensive on the stretch.
:08:14. > :08:26.What a shot, five breaks of serve in a row.
:08:27. > :08:34.Kerber serve for the set, Venus is nothing if not a fighter, and for
:08:35. > :08:38.every shot at Kerber made, she bashed it back. This was the longest
:08:39. > :08:42.rally of the first set, but Kerber took it 6-4. Let's join it at the
:08:43. > :09:27.start of the second. Great retrieving from Kerber. But to
:09:28. > :10:41.no avail. You could hear her say no when she
:10:42. > :10:47.hit the forehand. She did not need to see where it landed. Just not
:10:48. > :11:12.trusting the forehand today. Kerber is keeping her on the move.
:11:13. > :11:17.For the fifth break of the Williams serve. She had a 30-0 lead this
:11:18. > :11:49.game. There is no control.
:11:50. > :11:54.A good break by Kerber, and important. After that, both players
:11:55. > :11:59.started to settle, with some great rallies. The wingspan of Venus
:12:00. > :12:11.counteracted by the fast feet of Kerber, she kept Venus guessing.
:12:12. > :12:32.Let's rejoin commentary with Venus serving.
:12:33. > :12:39.You can see that Venus is trying different things, trying to move
:12:40. > :12:55.forward, into the net 15 times today. Well played. That has a
:12:56. > :12:56.lovely flowing shot. Just can't string enough of these points
:12:57. > :13:43.together. There we go again. Did you see the
:13:44. > :13:47.improvisational skills from Kerber? Completely stopped. Changed her
:13:48. > :14:05.swing path. It is in. A shake of the head,
:14:06. > :14:43.misjudgement. Another break point. It is corrected. Kerber is going to
:14:44. > :15:04.challenge. Interestingly, she believes this is out. She is wrong.
:15:05. > :15:08.Miss Kerber has two challenges remaining. Will that be an important
:15:09. > :15:45.reprieve? Better volleying. So necessary at
:15:46. > :15:50.this time. Just feel like Venus needs to win this game to hang in.
:15:51. > :16:00.Before the school board gets away from her.
:16:01. > :16:09.It did look a tired shot. If you see your opponent on the full stretch,
:16:10. > :16:42.expect a short shot. Very slow first step.
:16:43. > :16:57.She just can't put Kerber away. Astonishing work from the German.
:16:58. > :16:59.Another forehand into the net. Kerber will extract unforced errors
:17:00. > :17:38.from her opponent. It is too good. So smart to come
:17:39. > :17:46.forward, Venus did not want another 14 shot rally like the previous one.
:17:47. > :18:21.The unforced errors starting to mount up, 21 for Venus. Seventh
:18:22. > :18:48.Kerber. Well done. The crowd latching onto
:18:49. > :19:22.anything they can from Williams, they want this to be a contest.
:19:23. > :19:33.A champion's mentality, really digging deep.
:19:34. > :19:47.She holds, but there is hardly any joy in it. She is looking very weary
:19:48. > :19:52.as she trudges to her chair. She may have been looking query, but
:19:53. > :19:58.that was an important hold. She is just one break down. Angelique
:19:59. > :20:10.Kerber now serving for a place in her first Wimbledon final.
:20:11. > :21:06.It was on the line. She has three challenges.
:21:07. > :21:51.Steady as she goes. Two match points.
:21:52. > :22:17.It is amazing. To beat Venus, it is always a really tough match. She is
:22:18. > :22:22.a champion, she has won so many times, that is why I am happy about
:22:23. > :22:27.my game and my first final here. A wonderful shot to finish with. I
:22:28. > :22:37.tried to go for every shot, moving well. The last point was amazing.
:22:38. > :22:42.Totally, I wanted to win. What are you going to do? You do the best you
:22:43. > :22:48.can. I ran into a better player. Next time. You are doing things at
:22:49. > :22:53.an age when many at your contemporaries have hung it up. When
:22:54. > :22:59.you are an athlete, you are not thinking about age, you are thinking
:23:00. > :23:04.about what you can accomplish. Perhaps people will think of it more
:23:05. > :23:09.in that way. I am in a good place. She is rewriting the record books.
:23:10. > :23:14.With that answer, next time, she will be back again. Let's talk about
:23:15. > :23:20.Angelique Kerber. Her retrieving ability, she gets everything back.
:23:21. > :23:27.She does. She is one of the best athletes playing the game. Not as
:23:28. > :23:29.powerful as Serena, but she is so explosive, she has great
:23:30. > :23:34.anticipation. She backs up and she reads the play. She then can do
:23:35. > :23:40.stuff with her hands to make the balls do incredible things, angles,
:23:41. > :23:47.up the line. We look at her as not a grass court player, because of her
:23:48. > :23:52.serve, because it can be vulnerable, but every other part of her game is
:23:53. > :23:58.suited to grass, she stays low, it is difficult to play against. Talk
:23:59. > :24:00.us through what Kerber is doing and how she is managing to put Venus
:24:01. > :24:09.under pressure. She gets the ball back into play
:24:10. > :24:14.time and time again, she extends the rallies, she makes Venus have to
:24:15. > :24:19.play an extra shot. She went a bit down the middle, she did not go into
:24:20. > :24:25.the corners as much as I expected. She did not go into Venus' forehand
:24:26. > :24:30.side as much as she could have, but then she drew out the forced errors
:24:31. > :24:34.on that side. I think she is one of the fittest athletes out there, she
:24:35. > :24:40.has worked so incredibly hard on that side of her game. She has this
:24:41. > :24:44.ability to track down balls, the take-off speed, the footwork skills,
:24:45. > :24:50.she gets behind the ball and click the rest. The last point summed up
:24:51. > :24:55.what she is all about. She can come up with the running passing shots,
:24:56. > :24:59.she is so dangerous, it is wonderful to see somebody who has worked hard
:25:00. > :25:03.and you see it come to fruition. She had a plan with her serve,
:25:04. > :25:10.astounded, coming into Venus' forehand. That was the question,
:25:11. > :25:18.would she be willing to go to the serve to the forehand? She is more
:25:19. > :25:23.comfortable serving to the backhand. That is Venus' best shot. She came
:25:24. > :25:28.out of her comfort zone and hit more to the forehand. She came in knowing
:25:29. > :25:32.that she had to not hit her best serve every single time, she had to
:25:33. > :25:38.mix it up and have the confidence to do that. That is the weaker side of
:25:39. > :25:47.Venus, it broke down a bit today. Kerber took advantage of that. And
:25:48. > :25:50.-- we think of left-handers being great servers out wide, but when
:25:51. > :25:58.they serve into the forehand side, the ball is swinging in, you have to
:25:59. > :26:02.cut across the line of the ball, but feels comfortable, sometimes people
:26:03. > :26:07.can dictate to the strings. Quite often there were miscues from Venus,
:26:08. > :26:12.she was not comfortable. They said how tired she looked, she is playing
:26:13. > :26:18.not having recovered from this awful disease, but managing it. That is
:26:19. > :26:25.what we will never know, did she come in fatigued? She is 36, she had
:26:26. > :26:32.played five singles matches coming in, last year she never knows, each
:26:33. > :26:39.day is a new day, she has the manage her energy and schedule. What she is
:26:40. > :26:42.doing is remarkable. She did not seem to have the same and other of
:26:43. > :26:47.energy that we have seen coming into this match today. Full credit to
:26:48. > :26:51.Angelique Kerber. Through the second set could have gone either way, and
:26:52. > :26:56.then we would have been into a decider. To serve out nervously, how
:26:57. > :27:04.brilliant what this. It showed mental strength. So much pressure,
:27:05. > :27:09.to reach her first Wimbledon final. She had been broken many times
:27:10. > :27:12.during the match, especially in the first set, but she remained
:27:13. > :27:16.extremely calm. She said she was nervous at the start of the match
:27:17. > :27:22.but then she started to flow. She trusted herself. There is more in
:27:23. > :27:27.confidence from having won her first Grand Slam in Australia. This was a
:27:28. > :27:31.terrific match point, to finish the rally, to win the match to get
:27:32. > :27:38.through to the final. She has to be on cloud nine. She talked about her
:27:39. > :27:42.disappointment at the French, her first major as a grand slam
:27:43. > :27:45.champion, she lost in the first round, her opponent played well, but
:27:46. > :27:50.she was so disappointed, she learned from that, and she tried to take the
:27:51. > :27:56.pressure off PR. One reason why she is so confident, there is no way her
:27:57. > :28:01.camp is not telling her, you should believe in yourself, you have done
:28:02. > :28:08.this, you spend hours training, your game will hold up. Even if your mind
:28:09. > :28:13.starts to get nervous. That is what happens, you can see it, you know
:28:14. > :28:18.she puts in so many hours to be the best player she can be. An
:28:19. > :28:23.incredible job, she will be back on Saturday afternoon in the final, but
:28:24. > :28:26.who would she meet? With a look at the younger Williams sister against
:28:27. > :28:33.the unknown quantity of the semifinalist Elena Vesnina.
:28:34. > :28:42.Elena Vesnina has Neville travelled so far alone. Part of a duo who has
:28:43. > :28:47.found success as a solo artist. The images she will remember for the
:28:48. > :28:51.rest of her life. Her biggest challenge lay ahead, how do you
:28:52. > :28:56.solve a problem like Serena? She is getting better and better. There are
:28:57. > :29:01.lessons in recent history, women who took on the phenomenon and one. At
:29:02. > :29:06.the fridge open, youthful energy. Before that in Australia, Angelique
:29:07. > :29:12.Kerber. Roberta Vinci stopped her making the final at the US Open. For
:29:13. > :29:18.those who are confident, courageous, there is a chance. Her energy can
:29:19. > :29:22.become unmanageable. The passion and intensity I have is what makes me
:29:23. > :29:28.Serena. I can't change, I would not want to be different. Wimbledon is
:29:29. > :29:33.her domain, the six time champion who gains strength as the end grows
:29:34. > :29:35.nearer. Serena Williams may have offered more clues to those who
:29:36. > :29:42.challenge her, and she remains the most formidable puzzle.
:29:43. > :29:48.She had the headphones off backstage but took them off to hear the
:29:49. > :29:55.applause of the crowd. Aliona does mean, her first singles match on
:29:56. > :29:59.Centre Court. -- Elena Vesnina. The crowd very appreciative.
:30:00. > :30:06.They played four times before, Serena had one each meeting, Vesnina
:30:07. > :30:09.did not have time to let her nerves settle. As we join it, Serena
:30:10. > :31:03.Williams is already leading. How much does Serena want to play
:31:04. > :31:10.Venus in the final? That is a great question. Or not want to? Most
:31:11. > :31:39.importantly she is focused on getting to the final.
:31:40. > :31:46.A huge punch from Serena right at the end. Great defence from Serena.
:31:47. > :31:54.You don't see her need to do that too often. At least Vesnina is
:31:55. > :31:55.finding her legs, starting to move out there. She was frozen for the
:31:56. > :32:12.first few games. I only asked that question because,
:32:13. > :32:18.if Venus was to win the next match, and Serena wins this, how much would
:32:19. > :32:26.she say, I would have given anything for that opportunity? For Serena, it
:32:27. > :32:32.is probably easier for her to focus if it was not against her sister,
:32:33. > :32:36.but for her sister's say, she busy ones Venus to get to the final. I
:32:37. > :32:43.don't know how you played your brother. We played three times. I
:32:44. > :32:48.just felt like, take me to the top of a bridge if I lost. I thought you
:32:49. > :32:54.were going to say how hard it was emotionally.
:32:55. > :33:05.Venus handles it unbelievably well. She seems to be more worried about
:33:06. > :33:10.Serena than Serena is. You don't get the feeling it is reciprocal. She
:33:11. > :33:18.gets the job Journal and then she worries about Venus. I thought you
:33:19. > :33:28.were going to say, beating your brother 6-0, 5-0, I must let him
:33:29. > :33:37.have a game. There we go. It is three aces as well. In this game,
:33:38. > :33:43.Vesnina has not played poorly. Serena is sharp. This is an example
:33:44. > :33:52.of another one of these great sets she has played this tournament.
:33:53. > :34:20.There will be a huge cheer if she wins this point.
:34:21. > :34:29.Would that settled the Russian's nerves? The next games went with
:34:30. > :34:30.serve and we are going to join it at 5-2-macro, Serena serving to take
:34:31. > :35:16.the first set. Vesnina is hitting some high-quality
:35:17. > :35:20.shots but Serena, I think her movement was hampered at the end of
:35:21. > :35:29.last year and even in Australia this year, she did not look 100%. She has
:35:30. > :35:32.moved better this tournament, this year's Wimbledon, than she was six
:35:33. > :35:47.or eight months ago because of her knee.
:35:48. > :35:57.Shelling peas for Serena Williams. 6-2, 28 minutes.
:35:58. > :36:03.Serena in sensational form and she continued where she left off in the
:36:04. > :36:05.second set, breaking in the first game, so here is Vesnina serving 2-0
:36:06. > :36:54.down. It is getting hot, the sun and the
:36:55. > :36:57.heat, but it is the emotion. It is the racket, it is the ball and
:36:58. > :37:30.anything else. And error from the Williams racket.
:37:31. > :37:38.In two hours' time, we could say that was the turning point of the
:37:39. > :37:39.match. 20 years from now. We will never forget that forehand that went
:37:40. > :38:40.long. It's changed my life. The school board has one other
:38:41. > :39:05.interesting statistic. Just 38 minutes played. All Serena.
:39:06. > :39:18.Hawk-Eye has been awoken from its slumber. Fingers crossed here for
:39:19. > :39:22.Vesnina. No, well wide. That was a second double fault from her. And
:39:23. > :39:34.the end gets ever nearer. And there was still no respite as
:39:35. > :40:09.Serena serve to love again. Here is the Russian serving 4-0 down.
:40:10. > :40:17.This can't be a semifinal. It has taken her 43 minutes to decide to
:40:18. > :40:22.throw a drop shot in and that happens. It is a shame, because it
:40:23. > :40:39.is the second Thursday of a grand slam event.
:40:40. > :40:50.What was your head to head wins against Serena? Not great. So much
:40:51. > :41:00.has been written about her before she actually went on the tour but
:41:01. > :41:05.did she play her first ever match at Wimbledon in 1998? At that time,
:41:06. > :41:13.were people saying, you had better watch out yet, this could be one of
:41:14. > :41:23.the great players? Yes. I saw her when she was eight. The same thing.
:41:24. > :42:07.John, you were right. The first round, 1998.
:42:08. > :43:02.Oh, my goodness. She has lost just three points in total on her serve
:43:03. > :43:05.in this match. You could not have an easier time on your service games
:43:06. > :43:12.and what she has had in this semifinal. If you can't put pressure
:43:13. > :43:15.on Serena at all on her service game, she will be so loose and
:43:16. > :43:26.relaxed in her return games and that is what we have seen. That is an
:43:27. > :43:30.11th ace and so after just 48 minutes, barely one half of
:43:31. > :43:40.football, Serena Williams, three match points.
:43:41. > :43:47.As simple and as easy and as straightforward as you could
:43:48. > :43:54.possibly imagine. Just an exhibition performance from Serena Williams.
:43:55. > :44:01.Ruthless, relentless and into yet another Wimbledon final.
:44:02. > :44:08.I am very happy. I was really focused today because I know we have
:44:09. > :44:14.had a lot of tough matches before, especially on this surface. I knew
:44:15. > :44:18.she could really bring it to me. Are you surprised you one as easy as you
:44:19. > :44:24.did? It is never easy out there. Every point you have got to fight
:44:25. > :44:29.for. It is never easy. Through to your ninth final at Wimbledon. How
:44:30. > :44:35.significant is that to you? It is weird. I can't believe I am in the
:44:36. > :44:43.finals again. I am determined to get at least one more year.
:44:44. > :44:47.I felt like Serena just blew me from the court. I am a little bit
:44:48. > :44:51.disappointed and I wanted to play better in my first Grand Slam
:44:52. > :44:55.semifinal against Serena but you have got to admit she was better,
:44:56. > :45:01.stronger, faster and I could not do anything today. It is just something
:45:02. > :45:07.I can take this experience with me for the future and I am just wishing
:45:08. > :45:16.best of luck to Serena in the final and that is what it is.
:45:17. > :45:21.Vesnina incredibly gracious but she was against an unstoppable force.
:45:22. > :45:25.Serena only lost three points on her serve in the whole match. Here is
:45:26. > :45:33.your quiz question. That was the fastest semifinal since? Someone
:45:34. > :45:47.told me earlier. You have got to know this, Lindsay. 99, I think.
:45:48. > :45:52.Who? In my match. Yes, you. But it was just majestic from Serena. She
:45:53. > :45:56.has really been that perfect, certainly not this year. It really
:45:57. > :46:00.was perfect. Everyone has been wondering when the Demons might
:46:01. > :46:04.suddenly reappear but there is no sign of them. She had one difficult
:46:05. > :46:09.match earlier in the Championships but now she has got the flow, she is
:46:10. > :46:13.firing on all cylinders, the movement around the court, she is
:46:14. > :46:18.like an express train. When you are against someone like that, Vesnina
:46:19. > :46:22.had a lot of nerves in her first Grand Slam semifinal, but there was
:46:23. > :46:27.not much she could do to try and stop the rot. Try to get involved in
:46:28. > :46:30.her head to create some sort of doubt out there. She needed to
:46:31. > :46:36.extend those rallies are little bit just to keep pressure on that
:46:37. > :46:43.scoreline. She is such a good front runner, if she gets going, there is
:46:44. > :46:46.no stopping her. As this demonstrates, it is a beautiful,
:46:47. > :46:53.simple motion, but when she throws the ball. It is the most beautiful
:46:54. > :46:58.service motion, I am sure Lindsay would agree, but it is such a close
:46:59. > :47:03.cluster of balls and that is very difficult for the opponent. If she
:47:04. > :47:07.can save so many different choices of serve off roughly the same ball
:47:08. > :47:14.toss, that is a nightmare, because it is coming through the courts so
:47:15. > :47:20.fast. You had the figures. 123 mph? She has done it a few times. You
:47:21. > :47:25.have so little time to react. We wanted to compare it to Novak
:47:26. > :47:31.Djokovic's serve. His fastest of the tournament. She has that ability to
:47:32. > :47:36.take the play out of her opponent's hands. When a Serena is feeling
:47:37. > :47:43.called double and confident on that shot, it has just been flowing
:47:44. > :47:47.effect in this tournament. In Australia, in the final, she was
:47:48. > :47:54.forcing it a little bit, last year's US Open, the same thing. But it is
:47:55. > :48:00.flowing perfectly. She has the ability to go 125, she also has the
:48:01. > :48:03.ability to go slower, but she hates her target. Their opponents don't
:48:04. > :48:10.know which one to cover and it gives you so much confidence. She was in a
:48:11. > :48:14.very good mood afterwards. I had a long chat with her and she talked
:48:15. > :48:20.about her serve. She should be in a good move right now. But she also
:48:21. > :48:24.posted this. I mentioned that the Duchess of Cambridge was in the
:48:25. > :48:30.Royal box. Afterwards, Serena said, can we have a selfie and do this
:48:31. > :48:36.video with me? If you look carefully, you can see the Countess
:48:37. > :48:44.of Wessex coming in as well. It is just great. At net, you saw her have
:48:45. > :48:54.a quick chat with Vesnina, that is because they knew they would do to
:48:55. > :48:58.play doubles. The Williams sisters, it went with recess, but the
:48:59. > :49:01.Williams sisters through to the semifinals of the doubles. This is
:49:02. > :49:07.all about getting ready for the Rio Olympics. They have not played
:49:08. > :49:11.doubles in the last few years in the majors and this year they have made
:49:12. > :49:15.more of a commitment to try and win the gold medal at the Olympics. Ron
:49:16. > :49:21.while Venus is saying, so be blogging she might retire after the
:49:22. > :49:26.Olympics. She said 20/20 the other day. It is crazy. But she pulls it
:49:27. > :49:31.out there, don't ask me about retirement. We will talk more in a
:49:32. > :49:34.moment about that, Serena Williams against Angelique Kerber. But lots
:49:35. > :49:43.more doubles going on today. Coming to Wimbledon is like dropping
:49:44. > :49:50.in on an old friend for Martina Hingis. She and Sania Mirza took the
:49:51. > :49:56.doubles title last time and would top seeds this year. Timea Babos and
:49:57. > :50:00.Yaroslava Shvedova dealer owned them on the day the second seeds also
:50:01. > :50:06.went out. Maria Hingis was staying for another one though. Three and a
:50:07. > :50:11.half hours later, she reappeared later alongside Leander Paes, facing
:50:12. > :50:15.Britain's Heather Watson and her partner Henry continent, who had
:50:16. > :50:23.been progressing without playing. Despite Watson and Henry continent's
:50:24. > :50:27.efforts, they lost the first set. But this was not done. They seized
:50:28. > :50:31.the second and got the break they needed in the third, knocking the
:50:32. > :50:35.defending champions out and earning a place in the quarterfinals. Here
:50:36. > :50:42.is a far happier ever than the one that left her last week. In Grand
:50:43. > :50:48.Slam wheelchair tennis doubles, for the first time, she would try her
:50:49. > :50:57.luck on her own. She sort of her fellow Brit in the previous round.
:50:58. > :51:01.Gordon Reid says playing singles on these courts is something he has
:51:02. > :51:06.always creamed. No need to wake up just yet. Inference of the Duchess
:51:07. > :51:10.of Cambridge, he crafted his way past the Frenchman. A tiger could
:51:11. > :51:16.have been to have negotiated perfectly. An occasion he has waited
:51:17. > :51:22.all his career for could hardly have gone much better.
:51:23. > :51:28.A historic Wimbledon for having wheelchair singles for the first
:51:29. > :51:33.time. Everyone is still buzzing about yesterday's match as Centre
:51:34. > :51:36.Court saw two of the greatest quarterfinal matches ever. One
:51:37. > :51:43.featuring Roger Federer, the other featuring Andy Murray.
:51:44. > :51:46.It is men's quarterfinal stage and it is an absolutely cracking
:51:47. > :52:03.line-up. He is not going to leave Wimbledon
:52:04. > :52:08.this year without a fight. Absolutely stunning!
:52:09. > :52:22.The best shot of the day. A phenomenal comeback. He is truly one
:52:23. > :52:28.of the greatest players ever of the game.
:52:29. > :52:34.The world number two, Andy Murray. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. A match to
:52:35. > :52:41.savour. He has got the ball on a string.
:52:42. > :52:49.He has not lost a set at these championships yet.
:52:50. > :52:59.That is why Murray does the hours. He is not out of this match yet. He
:53:00. > :53:00.is going the distance. There was triumph on Centre Court for Andy
:53:01. > :53:13.Murray. Tsonga and Cilic played their car in
:53:14. > :53:16.those encounters. Angelique Kerber knows she has done the work to
:53:17. > :53:24.deserve these moments, did you see him shout at his clan, there is no
:53:25. > :53:28.way I am losing this match. You just know with Andy, he is such an
:53:29. > :53:32.unbelievable fighter, a warrior out there, he is in his domain, Centre
:53:33. > :53:38.Court, where he has won this championship. I thought Tsonga did
:53:39. > :53:42.extremely well to turn it into a five setter. You felt mentally he
:53:43. > :53:46.had been beaten and he was going away from the match and yet he
:53:47. > :53:51.started to really fire on the forehand, he started to get the flow
:53:52. > :53:55.going with his serve, and he did mess the rhythm with his slice
:53:56. > :54:00.backhand. And the backhand side, which is normally a weaker side for
:54:01. > :54:04.him, he started coming up with phenomenal passing shot. But
:54:05. > :54:10.ultimately, Andy does mess with a lot of players' heads and it is very
:54:11. > :54:18.difficult to unravel him. And where Murray shows all his determination,
:54:19. > :54:22.he shouts, he screams at his camp. I think a lot of that is geared for
:54:23. > :54:28.the opponent. Look at that, there is no way I am losing this match. Roger
:54:29. > :54:33.Federer, in contrast, you don't see it, but as an opponent you must feel
:54:34. > :54:38.it. He just has that aura. You could tell he was getting intense because
:54:39. > :54:42.he was yelling, come on! He was getting a little bit more vocal
:54:43. > :54:47.yesterday. But you never get the sense of any anxiety or any panic
:54:48. > :54:57.ever from Roger. That, I think, it helped him through yesterday. He
:54:58. > :55:03.saved three match points. 3-3, 0-40. He just believes. And he finishes up
:55:04. > :55:10.with two aces and that is when you realise. He does not look like it
:55:11. > :55:15.takes that much out of him but I am just so interested in the effect he
:55:16. > :55:18.had on Cilic. Cilic is going to be thinking today, I should have won
:55:19. > :55:25.that match here, here, here and here. He was going in earlier in the
:55:26. > :55:30.first two sets but when he had a chance to take a stranglehold, those
:55:31. > :55:33.returns were not going in. That is because he is playing Roger Federer,
:55:34. > :55:37.Centre Court at Wimbledon. That is what being that big of a legend and
:55:38. > :55:42.that much of a champion does to opponents sometimes. This is the
:55:43. > :55:48.order of play for tomorrow and a cracking line-up it is. It will all
:55:49. > :55:52.be on the BBC. Milos Raonic, from Canada, with John McEnroe in his
:55:53. > :55:58.coaching camp, up against Roger Federer. And Tomas Berdych, who has
:55:59. > :56:03.been a final here before, against Andy Murray. Just extraordinary. On
:56:04. > :56:07.Saturday we will have the women's final. How does Angelique Kerber go
:56:08. > :56:12.about beating Serena Williams again? Will it be effective on grass. In
:56:13. > :56:16.Australia she brought a very high level out onto the court but she
:56:17. > :56:21.played with aggression, she ran down balls and she managed to extend the
:56:22. > :56:26.rallies. She started to get into the forehand side of Serena Williams who
:56:27. > :56:30.started to break down emotionally, started to doubt herself, and she
:56:31. > :56:34.stepped with her emotionally. It is very difficult to do that but if you
:56:35. > :56:38.are doing it, it starts to change the momentum and shifts the rhythm
:56:39. > :56:41.of the match. I don't think it is going to be as easy for her to do it
:56:42. > :56:47.on a grass court because of that serve of Serena Williams. She comes
:56:48. > :56:51.up with so many free points. But if anyone can extend the rallies and
:56:52. > :56:56.defend, Angelique Kerber has Beth Mead put herself in a position to do
:56:57. > :57:02.that. This was our shot of the day, to do that under pressure to finish
:57:03. > :57:09.that rally. What do you think about the final? Would you make Serena a
:57:10. > :57:13.heavy favourite? Serena is her heavy favourite just based on the surface,
:57:14. > :57:19.being six times champion and the quality she has shown this week.
:57:20. > :57:23.Kerber has to get a high percentage returns back and this is the most
:57:24. > :57:27.difficult surface to do that on. She also asked to hold her serve early
:57:28. > :57:34.on. But a bit more pressure on Serena if she can go from there. If
:57:35. > :57:39.she gets into a rally, she has a chance. Those first shots in this
:57:40. > :57:43.match are going to be huge. And if she does start to return very well,
:57:44. > :57:46.which she has been doing during the course of the Championships, that
:57:47. > :57:51.can produce misses of first serve, you can look up second service, all
:57:52. > :57:58.pieces of a jigsaw that part romantic during the match. And
:57:59. > :58:02.Serena can be susceptible to stress. You have seen her, her breathing
:58:03. > :58:06.gets very quick and you can see it start to happen. One thing she is
:58:07. > :58:08.doing better at this stage of her career is learning from losses,
:58:09. > :58:14.learning from previous mistakes. That overwhelmed her last year at
:58:15. > :58:21.the open. I don't thing she was 100 set healthy in Australia. She is
:58:22. > :58:24.moving better here. The French, she was struggling off court. So why
:58:25. > :58:29.think she is going to do better here. They are about to make the
:58:30. > :58:32.announcement that everybody needs to leave the ground. We have got to go
:58:33. > :58:37.because otherwise they will lock all the gates and we will be here for
:58:38. > :58:43.ever. On Saturday, Serena could finally equal Steffi Graf's record
:58:44. > :58:47.of 22 Grand Slam victories. With her and Venus in the semifinals and
:58:48. > :58:53.Roger Federer still going as well, this has been a Wimbledon way
:58:54. > :58:55.vintage is back in vogue. We will be back tomorrow. Join Sue on BBC Two.
