:00:41. > :00:48.This is where the hard work is done, far away from the crowds. Away from

:00:49. > :00:53.the glamour of Centre Court. It is day in, day out, Whee Kim, week out.

:00:54. > :01:00.That is what Andy Murray has been doing for decades and why the effort

:01:01. > :01:03.he has put in in training has made him one of the most dependable men

:01:04. > :01:11.in British sport. We need more of them. He had an Olympic gold medal

:01:12. > :01:15.and a first Wimbledon title. He has gone back to the coaching

:01:16. > :01:20.relationship which worked best for him, by reintroducing the imposing

:01:21. > :01:24.figure of Ivan Lendl. So, on Today at Wimbledon, we will see how Murray

:01:25. > :01:31.started his campaign on Centre Court against fellow Brit Liam Broady.

:01:32. > :01:34.Opening Centre Court was the defending champion Serena Williams.

:01:35. > :01:40.And we will see Johanna Konta, the first British woman to be seeded

:01:41. > :01:45.here in over 30 years in a tough first-round match.

:01:46. > :01:48.Well, we had the most wonderful morning and it was a lovely day

:01:49. > :01:53.until about half past four when it started raining. It has stopped now

:01:54. > :01:57.but there is no play out there. There is no one left around in the

:01:58. > :02:01.grounds. Luckily, here in the studio, where we are sheltering

:02:02. > :02:05.because the threat of more rain, we had two Wimbledon champions, Pat

:02:06. > :02:11.Cash and Martina Navratilova. Good evening to both of you. Did you get

:02:12. > :02:25.caught in the rain, Martina? Not me, I

:02:26. > :02:29.escaped it. I think Pat did. On my Harley. My mopeds. Bike. They are

:02:30. > :02:32.here to discuss and buy just the day's play or what was possible of

:02:33. > :02:36.it. Andy Murray has had a record-breaking clay-court season

:02:37. > :02:39.and just one a fifth title at Queen's.

:02:40. > :02:42.He was playing against a man he knows well. Having not met a fellow

:02:43. > :02:50.Briton in ten years on the tour, along come three in five matches. He

:02:51. > :02:55.beat Aljaz Bedene and Kyle Edmund at Queen's and Murray was drawn against

:02:56. > :03:02.Liam Broady, the British number six. As a junior, Broady won the junior

:03:03. > :03:03.titles. His sister Naomi lost her first-round match yesterday but was

:03:04. > :03:16.in the players box to offer support. At the French Open, Murray opened

:03:17. > :03:21.with two really hard five set matches, and something that took its

:03:22. > :03:25.toll when it came to the final. Here at Wimbledon, he is sharp and ready.

:03:26. > :03:30.He broke early and took the first set 6-2. It is not the Broady was

:03:31. > :03:37.playing badly, he wasn't. There were some fantastic rallies. It is just

:03:38. > :03:40.Murray's speed of reaction, the angles he finds, his scurrying

:03:41. > :03:48.ability is superior to almost anyone on the tour. Let's pick up the match

:03:49. > :03:50.with commentary at the start of the third set. Andrew Castle and Tim

:03:51. > :04:56.Henman in the commentary box. ANDREW CASTLE: Oh, yes, made it. TIM

:04:57. > :05:02.HENMAN: Broady coming to the net. I was just reflecting on Murray's

:05:03. > :05:08.approach. He has been to the net ten times and won nine of the points.

:05:09. > :05:11.To be successful against Djokovic, he needs to approach the net more

:05:12. > :07:23.often. Great play from Murray. He is so

:07:24. > :08:34.athletic. Let's rejoin it in the third set.

:08:35. > :08:41.UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the call. This is an interesting one

:08:42. > :08:47.here. Murray was unsure whether Broady's shot was long. After we saw

:08:48. > :08:55.his forehand looking like it was going to go long, he challenged the

:08:56. > :10:06.call. It stands. Mr Murray has two challenges remaining.

:10:07. > :10:12.With the best will in the world, there is no chance that Liam Broady

:10:13. > :10:17.can stay at the back of the court and beat Andy Murray. Some

:10:18. > :10:18.impressive hitting, but it is recognising when he can move up the

:10:19. > :10:34.court little bit to get more reward. Murray is able to soak up the

:10:35. > :10:43.pressure. That is another highlight for Broady. He got the week return

:10:44. > :10:45.from the serve into the body. Now he is able to get into the court and

:10:46. > :11:36.execute the big forehand. And that is a game for a Liam

:11:37. > :11:40.Broady. Hard to come by stop STUDIO: A really good hold for a

:11:41. > :11:46.Liam Broady but Murray maintained his advantage for a single break and

:11:47. > :13:15.let's rejoin him serving for the match.

:13:16. > :13:19.He has certainly settled into this match just as James Ward did against

:13:20. > :13:57.Djokovic yesterday. It didn't look that far rain. --

:13:58. > :14:40.that far in. It was a bad challenge! Job done for Andy Murray in straight

:14:41. > :14:45.sets. He is into the second round. Liam Broady, obviously delighted to

:14:46. > :14:47.have shared the court with this champion.

:14:48. > :14:53.STUDIO: Hick was pretty efficient in the end. The crowd loved it. One

:14:54. > :15:01.hour and 43 minutes was the time -- it was pretty efficient.

:15:02. > :15:09.The first matches are difficult because the build-up is quite hard.

:15:10. > :15:13.There is a lot more attention and pressures than at other events but

:15:14. > :15:17.once I get out on the court and get through the first match and start to

:15:18. > :15:22.settle down, I come into the tournament, so I am glad I managed

:15:23. > :15:28.to get the first one out of the way quite quickly. It is tough to put

:15:29. > :15:33.into words. I have grown up playing tennis, dreaming of playing on

:15:34. > :15:37.Centre Court to players like Andy. I think I acquitted myself pretty

:15:38. > :15:42.well. I think I could have played better. I think Andy could have

:15:43. > :15:47.probably played better as well. But Andy is a champion, he is a

:15:48. > :15:54.Wimbledon champion and number two in the world. He got what he wanted, a

:15:55. > :15:58.straight sets victory today pretty comfortable and goes to show why he

:15:59. > :16:03.is where he is. You can see how well Andy Murray is served. His first

:16:04. > :16:10.serve was working fro well. To win 88 points on the serve, those are

:16:11. > :16:16.Federer numbers of ten years ago. Andy has been working on his serve,

:16:17. > :16:21.it is clearly paying off. He is able to be more adventurous on the

:16:22. > :16:26.opponent's serve. Pat, what did you make of Murray today? It was a good

:16:27. > :16:30.performance. The first match of the tournament, feeling your way around

:16:31. > :16:37.the court, he is playing a mate, he knows his game pretty well. I

:16:38. > :16:40.thought Liam played pretty well, particularly in the third set. Andy

:16:41. > :16:43.produced a few unforced errors there. It was very under control by

:16:44. > :16:50.then. He was serving well. There were a few times when he was down

:16:51. > :16:56.0-30, and bang, bang, bang. It is like Federer. He comes out and goes

:16:57. > :17:00.ace, ace and moves on. That is priceless to have that skill to be

:17:01. > :17:04.able to do that or confidence to be able to do that. One of the things

:17:05. > :17:12.that Lendl has tried to say to him is don't be soft out on court, don't

:17:13. > :17:15.be generous. I was looking for a little dip somewhat, a little blip

:17:16. > :17:24.where you are set and a break up and he did have a little blip and he was

:17:25. > :17:28.down 0-30 on his serve and then he came up with two big shots and

:17:29. > :17:32.cleaned the game up winning four points in a row. For me, Murray in

:17:33. > :17:34.form means when he has those little setbacks, concentration setbacks

:17:35. > :17:45.which everyone does, that he regroups very quickly. That lunch

:17:46. > :17:54.volley. -- lunge volley. Andy was very focused today. We would like to

:17:55. > :17:58.see him come in more. He has great reach and he reads the play well. I

:17:59. > :18:03.don't want to see him at the net, I want to see him on the baseline. He

:18:04. > :18:07.could make people a lot more uncomfortable if he pushed forward

:18:08. > :18:13.as a more. Just positionally getting them. He looks very happy, Bray

:18:14. > :18:20.comfortable, his back is fine now, he looks in good shape. He looks in

:18:21. > :18:36.good nick, as they say here. They do. He now plays Yen-Hsun Lu. He

:18:37. > :18:44.beat him before, what will happen? The bookies will go crazy! They may.

:18:45. > :18:51.The number 22 bus is one Serena Williams is desperate to catch as

:18:52. > :18:55.she chases Steffi Graf's open era run of grand slam titles. There is

:18:56. > :18:57.always an error vulnerability about her but she is always the biggest

:18:58. > :19:03.name in town. The most terrifying thing a player

:19:04. > :19:09.can see opposite their name in a draw is Serena Williams. She is the

:19:10. > :19:14.most dominant player. Facing her today on Centre Court was Amra

:19:15. > :19:21.Sadikova from Switzerland, her first time ever in a grand slam main draw.

:19:22. > :19:35.Williams started well but there were early signs that Amra Sadikova would

:19:36. > :19:40.not be a walkover. Brilliant. Williams has learned that not every

:19:41. > :20:01.performance can be perfect, what matters is the result.

:20:02. > :20:16.Amra Sadikovic played well. Serena Berry said -- berated herself for

:20:17. > :20:22.unforced errors. Each winner was cheered by her mother who had a seat

:20:23. > :20:27.in the Royal box. The match ended with a Hawk-Eye challenge which went

:20:28. > :20:36.the way of Williams. Serena Williams has won her 80th match at Wimbledon!

:20:37. > :20:42.Martina, you watched Serena in action today, what did you think?

:20:43. > :20:52.Lidl in and out. She had three double faults. She did really well

:20:53. > :20:56.when she had three break points. I had not seen her opponent, I had to

:20:57. > :21:04.YouTube heard to see what she looked like. She had a nice game. I never

:21:05. > :21:06.liked playing somebody I had never seen before in a grand slam.

:21:07. > :21:11.Overall, a good performance. Good enough. The score could have been

:21:12. > :21:15.closer in the first set, but in the end, Serena won more points. I spoke

:21:16. > :21:27.to her earlier and I said what could you work on? She said, I started

:21:28. > :21:38.well. I did not think she was happy. The school was a bit misleading. The

:21:39. > :21:44.second set should have been easier. She looked a little bit stressed and

:21:45. > :21:51.a bit tight on her serve. That is normally the best serve ever.

:21:52. > :21:58.Is it just me or has she seemed tight for a year and a half? Every

:21:59. > :22:03.point she was really anxious. At the Australian Open she did not play

:22:04. > :22:07.particularly well in the final. Kerber played great. In the French

:22:08. > :22:11.Open final she was a bit injured. She was asked a lot about that in

:22:12. > :22:17.her press conference and she just batted away and she said, No. She

:22:18. > :22:22.does not want anyone talking about Steffi Graf and 22, she does not

:22:23. > :22:29.what it ancient. She said she was not feeling any pressure, she would

:22:30. > :22:34.not mind talking about it! You cannot escape it. You feel it. You

:22:35. > :22:38.know it is there. Particularly with social media, it is it hard to get

:22:39. > :22:45.away from stuff you don't want to talk about or think about. The press

:22:46. > :22:49.remind you. They say, when are you going to retire? I thought, I have

:22:50. > :22:54.not thought about it until you start talking about it. The thing, am I

:22:55. > :22:58.too old? Implants that seed of doubt. I did not want to know who I

:22:59. > :23:05.played next. I just concentrated on one match. -- it plants that seed of

:23:06. > :23:10.doubt. At the end of the day, she has looked tight when she plays

:23:11. > :23:14.these big matches. She was desperate to talk about other things which I

:23:15. > :23:22.did and she said, thank you for talking about other things!

:23:23. > :23:26.Now, Tara Moore, she is exactly 100 points below her opponent. She grew

:23:27. > :23:32.up in Hong Kong and trend in America. She has lived in the UK

:23:33. > :23:37.since she was 16. She is 23 now. This is her first Grand Slam. It is

:23:38. > :24:01.going with serve. We join it in the first set.

:24:02. > :24:05.Van Uytvanck trying to get a backhand slice over the high part of

:24:06. > :24:53.the net. Nice work. Tara Moore with a really

:24:54. > :25:03.aggressive point. An important point in this game. An interesting

:25:04. > :25:07.spectator, they are trying to peer around the canopy and over the

:25:08. > :25:19.Perspex. They don't make life easy. Come on, mum.

:25:20. > :25:27.Oh, yes, wonderful stuff from Tara Moore. She got two more break

:25:28. > :25:31.points. She had a break point in the previous Van Uytvanck service game

:25:32. > :25:34.and couldn't take advantage of it but this beautiful backhand down the

:25:35. > :26:37.line gives two break points. This is Tara Moore's point here.

:26:38. > :26:40.This is a long way out. It was not too dissimilar to the point on the

:26:41. > :27:01.previous service game. A great rally. Good reactions from

:27:02. > :27:44.Van Uytvanck. She is a sitting duck. Tara Moore moving all over the

:27:45. > :28:25.back-court at the far end. She really reached behind her to

:28:26. > :28:31.pick that one up and as a result, it flew long. Tara Moore, at the third

:28:32. > :28:38.time of asking breaks and she leaves 5-3 and will serve for the first

:28:39. > :28:40.set. STUDIO: And this is her holding

:28:41. > :28:53.serve to take the first set. She was pumped up, she was positive.

:28:54. > :28:58.She said she was inspired by the efforts of Marcus Willis and Dan

:28:59. > :29:05.Evans yesterday. That was part of a run of five consecutive games won by

:29:06. > :29:08.the British wildcard. After an hour and 12 minutes, her first ever

:29:09. > :29:11.Wimbledon victory and a massive screen to celebrate. 6-3, 6-2 was

:29:12. > :29:22.the score. It is amazing. Who would have

:29:23. > :29:27.thought before the grass season that I would be where I am now. I am

:29:28. > :29:30.really grateful to the All-England Club for giving me this opportunity.

:29:31. > :29:38.I think I have definitely worked really hard and it is paying off

:29:39. > :29:42.finally and I am happy. Tara Moore now faces Svetlana Kuznetsova. Now,

:29:43. > :29:43.with the news on the other British players in action, here is Patrick

:29:44. > :30:01.Gearey. Wimbledon has taken better -- this

:30:02. > :30:11.man to his heart. He has never been as well-prepared for Wimbledon.

:30:12. > :30:12.Richard Gasquet is a regular at Wimbledon. One to stand and watch,

:30:13. > :30:46.there is little else he can do. The Bedene did finish the match.

:30:47. > :30:54.Ultimately the difference between Swan and her opponent was apparent.

:30:55. > :31:01.Swan is just 17, so she will hope to be back with Bob Wilson. John

:31:02. > :31:05.McEnroe told us last night that Taylor Fritz would be a top ten

:31:06. > :31:14.player one day. He is only 18 years old. This had potential for an upset

:31:15. > :31:18.if Wawrinka was not bang on form. That is Taylor Fritz and he has no

:31:19. > :31:25.fear at all. Wawrinka took the first two sets. It had to go into a fourth

:31:26. > :31:35.set. Pat, what did you make of Wawrinka when he was at his most

:31:36. > :31:39.powerful? This was a tricky match. Fritz has gone up 600 ranking

:31:40. > :31:46.positions this year. He is the rising star, faster than anybody.

:31:47. > :31:52.The big serving American, a big forehand, a big backhand. Ms

:31:53. > :31:57.12-year-old. Always going to be dangerous. -- he moves well for an

:31:58. > :32:01.18-year-old. He has not really performed his best at Wimbledon and

:32:02. > :32:07.I'm waiting for that to happen. He has all the shots, all the game.

:32:08. > :32:12.This was a real test for him. To get through in four sets, he will be

:32:13. > :32:17.happy. He looked so relieved. He has brought Richard Krajicek into his

:32:18. > :32:21.team to help into the grass court season. I am sure Richard will bring

:32:22. > :32:29.something to the table, but he has the best coach out there already,

:32:30. > :32:31.may be overkill. Someone says something that will make a

:32:32. > :32:34.difference and Richard knows his way around the grass court, but it may

:32:35. > :32:39.be for the mental bit of it more than anything else. Definitely top

:32:40. > :32:46.five, maybe top ten. I used to play against his mother, Taylor is a

:32:47. > :32:51.solid player, he is still a bit gawky, a lanky teenager. Once he

:32:52. > :32:57.fills out, watch out. He has the game and the goods and he seems to

:32:58. > :33:00.want it here. He wants to work hard. It will be on steamed watches

:33:01. > :33:06.progress. Let's move on to a rip roaring match, Nick Kyrgios against

:33:07. > :33:11.Radek Stepanek. Andrew Cotter and Peter Fleming were in the commentary

:33:12. > :33:14.box as we join it with Kyrgios having taken the first two sets and

:33:15. > :33:38.the third set has gone to a tie-break.

:33:39. > :34:30.This makes him such a material player. -- mercurial.

:34:31. > :34:36.The injection of pace from the ground stroke of Kyrgios and he

:34:37. > :35:01.holds his two serves and brings about match point.

:35:02. > :35:10.Oh! That is brilliant from Stepanek. He is down again as he was earlier

:35:11. > :35:16.in the match, but this time with the winning point and at what a moment.

:35:17. > :35:20.Yes, he did not quite get up to the overhead. More like a slip than a

:35:21. > :36:01.dive really. Wide from Stepanek and it will be

:36:02. > :36:24.another match point for Kyrgios and this on his serve.

:36:25. > :37:28.That point was tighter. Thank you Rios has been. -- that point was

:37:29. > :37:39.tighter than Kyrgios has been. He did not want to hit that second

:37:40. > :38:11.serve. Down this end, staring into the sun again.

:38:12. > :38:25.Easily put away by Stepanek, it will be his set point. And his serve.

:38:26. > :38:33.That's time Kyrgios powered down a second serve to no avail. -- that

:38:34. > :38:35.time. The speed gun did not quite pick it up, but it was one of the

:38:36. > :39:28.biggest second serves. Set point. Oh! He has the set. He still lives

:39:29. > :39:32.in this match. Into a fourth set we go and Nick Kyrgios who was serving

:39:33. > :39:41.for the match finds himself in a real fight now. And it was not just

:39:42. > :39:50.Stepanek that Kerry has wanted to fight with, he wanted to fight the

:39:51. > :39:55.umpire. -- that Kyrgios. STUDIO: When he gets angry he channels it

:39:56. > :40:06.well, he served four straight aces, 25 aces in total. He has so much

:40:07. > :40:10.talent and people love to watch him, because you never quite know what

:40:11. > :40:14.will happen. But the main thing he made sure that did happen is that he

:40:15. > :40:18.won. At the press conference afterwards he faced inevitable

:40:19. > :40:26.questions about his on court behaviour. At the start of the match

:40:27. > :40:31.the umpire said mind your language and keep hold of your racket, do you

:40:32. > :40:36.think that is an unfair reputation for you or have you had an umpire do

:40:37. > :40:42.that before? I won't answer that question, next question. Did you

:40:43. > :40:49.follow it up with the umpire? Yes, we are good. Well, not good, but...

:40:50. > :40:55.LAUGHTER INAUDIBLE

:40:56. > :41:01.I don't know, I am pretty sure we have all said it in this room. How

:41:02. > :41:07.do we solve a problem like Nick Kyrgios! LAUGHTER

:41:08. > :41:13.The bottom line is that Nick is Nick. He will blow up, that is his

:41:14. > :41:17.personality, he is unbelievably interesting. A mate of mine said

:41:18. > :41:21.when that Kyrgios kid comes on, I cannot turn the TV off, he is super

:41:22. > :41:27.talented, you never know what will happen and he is a number liveable

:41:28. > :41:33.talent. You rein it in, can you rein it in? Say calm down? Is that a good

:41:34. > :41:38.thing or bad thing. He cannot go around squaring and throwing rackets

:41:39. > :41:46.when there kids, he is trying. It is like Andy Murray, you have to say to

:41:47. > :41:50.him stop being grumpy or emotional. That is not his personality. He is

:41:51. > :41:55.an unbelievably talented player. He produces some shots where you think

:41:56. > :42:00.I would never come up with that. I would never have tried that. That

:42:01. > :42:06.was a stupid shots to try, but it went in, so not that stupid. He has

:42:07. > :42:11.an amazing combination of power, pure, raw power and touch. Kind of

:42:12. > :42:15.like Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, he reminds me of him. More upside than Tsonga.

:42:16. > :42:19.I don't think you need to change anything, you don't need to coach

:42:20. > :42:23.him, you just need to challenge it in the right direction. That is what

:42:24. > :42:29.he does a bit too often at this stage. I would say he needs to

:42:30. > :42:36.probably work a little harder, get a double fit. Get a little tougher and

:42:37. > :42:41.he is top ten, top five, grand slam potential no doubt. McEnroe says

:42:42. > :42:47.there are five or six players that can maybe win this title, is he one

:42:48. > :42:55.of them? This year? In the next few years. I do not think he will number

:42:56. > :43:01.one -- he will get number one, you need to be consistent every week.

:43:02. > :43:05.But he could win a big grand slam. Whether he can do that, we will have

:43:06. > :43:10.to wait and see, but he has the potential to do that. To be

:43:11. > :43:16.consistent, you need to be Djokovic, Federer, week in, week out and that

:43:17. > :43:21.is not Nick. He reminds me a bit of Andre Agassi, the rebel, I will do

:43:22. > :43:25.it my way. Andre Agassi became one of the best ambassadors the sport we

:43:26. > :43:31.ever had. You never know how someone will evolve. Here is the really

:43:32. > :43:35.exciting thing, the next round he plays Dustin Brown, he knocked out

:43:36. > :43:45.Rafael Nadal last year. Dustin went to a fifth set and won it against

:43:46. > :43:50.Lajovic of Serbia. He is incredibly exciting to watch. He has a big fan

:43:51. > :43:55.base. That is a match you want to see, isn't it? He is a great

:43:56. > :44:03.ambassador for tennis, friendly, fun. They took him into the IPL

:44:04. > :44:07.league, the league that travels around Asia. He was a big hit, a

:44:08. > :44:12.fantastic person to have, for the kids to watch. Talk about loose.

:44:13. > :44:16.With his racket he slaps the ball around, you do not know what is

:44:17. > :44:23.coming next. He will definitely be great to watch. Joe Konta is the

:44:24. > :44:35.first woman from Britain to be seeded, for quite some time. But she

:44:36. > :44:39.wanted to win against Monica Puig of Argentina. 2016 has been Konta's

:44:40. > :44:44.breakthrough year. The British number one was in a straight and

:44:45. > :44:46.open semifinalist in January, and Eastbourne semifinalist last week

:44:47. > :44:54.and has established herself inside the world's top 20, but there is not

:44:55. > :45:09.much in it. Puerto Rican monitor Puig -- Monica Puig has great form.

:45:10. > :45:11.Simon Reed and Sam Smith were in the commentary box that is. A great

:45:12. > :45:26.start for Konta, already a break up. COMMENTATOR: She is keeping the

:45:27. > :45:56.pressure on. That is OK, right shot and

:45:57. > :46:03.physically on the backhand, Konta will have a go at that. First strike

:46:04. > :46:18.ten is out here, Puig looking for the early winner.

:46:19. > :46:47.APPLAUSE She got a little unlucky, she

:46:48. > :46:52.slipped as she went up to the net. After that she was not really

:46:53. > :46:53.playing the rally on her terms. A little bit of extra luck there from

:46:54. > :47:23.Konta. Explosive return. The coach up there

:47:24. > :47:24.on the left-hand side. Very well read by Konta, so balanced on the

:47:25. > :47:35.return. APPLAUSE

:47:36. > :47:40.She could not have dream it would start as well as this. STUDIO: On

:47:41. > :47:52.tour was nervous, but she certainly did not show it. -- Konta.

:47:53. > :48:03.COMMENTATOR: Very measured, in fact everything she does in her life as

:48:04. > :48:12.well as in tennis is very measured. She does not waste much time. Joanna

:48:13. > :48:42.Konta. -- Johanna Konta. That is the damage

:48:43. > :48:49.that she can pose. She does not have a game with too much variety does

:48:50. > :48:55.Puig. It is one dimension, but she is an excellent ball striker very

:48:56. > :49:02.much in the mould of Jennifer Capriati who she grew up idolising.

:49:03. > :49:34.The serving is really doing the job. APPLAUSE

:49:35. > :49:42.The bouncing off the ball also epitomises Johanna. So precise.

:49:43. > :49:49.APPLAUSE It does not get much better than

:49:50. > :50:03.that, the serving from Konta. STUDIO: Konta was maybe sensing

:50:04. > :50:12.there was rein in the air, she was not hanging around. This was her

:50:13. > :50:18.breaking Puig's set to take it 6-1. It was 2-1 on serve in the second

:50:19. > :50:23.set when the rain fell. Scurrying on came all the ground staff to cover

:50:24. > :50:27.those courts and around about 4:30pm, Konta came off court with no

:50:28. > :50:31.hope of getting back on again, but hopefully not too nervous and night

:50:32. > :50:35.for her, she was playing sensationally well. Today was a big

:50:36. > :50:40.day for French tennis, 11 French tennis players in action. Richard

:50:41. > :50:51.takes a philosophical look at how they got on. John Paul Sartre once

:50:52. > :50:57.said for something to become an adventure, you have to recount it.

:50:58. > :51:05.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga proved a force against Cervantes. The Frenchman did

:51:06. > :51:10.what he does best... COMMENTATOR: Big man, light touch. He won in

:51:11. > :51:22.straight sets to set up a round to rendezvous with a man named Monaco.

:51:23. > :51:34.-- two. Stephane Robert showed glimpses of flour. On the other end

:51:35. > :51:48.was Dell portrayal, so it was goodbye to Stefan Robert. Sadly is

:51:49. > :51:56.very had his own take on how the Frenchman played. Goodbye to Matthew

:51:57. > :52:13.-- Mathieu. Meanwhile, this was a tricky tie

:52:14. > :52:23.against Troicki. The 25th seeded Serb proved the creme de la creme.

:52:24. > :52:29.He was victorious. The 26th seed Paire had to wait for his tennis. He

:52:30. > :52:33.took five sets to see off the Croatian winning 10-8 in the final

:52:34. > :52:37.set. Not every French player finished their match, some did not

:52:38. > :52:48.make it onto court which leads me to another famous French saying, when

:52:49. > :52:53.it rains, it pours. STUDIO: Like that, I did not know he knew so many

:52:54. > :53:02.words in French. Dell portrayal has not played a grand slam match for

:53:03. > :53:06.almost 900 days. -- Del Potro. He is a guy we need on the circuit to be

:53:07. > :53:12.perfectly honest. He won the US Open, he has the ball as powerful as

:53:13. > :53:15.anybody on the circuit. We would love to see him back. There are a

:53:16. > :53:21.few players we miss. He is definitely one of the guys we would

:53:22. > :53:26.like to see back. He now plays Stan Wawrinka, another tough time for

:53:27. > :53:35.Wawrinka. A view of the women's seeds did go through, let's round

:53:36. > :53:37.them up with Paddy. Kuznetsova and Wozniacki knew whatever happened in

:53:38. > :53:46.round one, the weather would not stop them. Wozniacki was once world

:53:47. > :53:51.number one, now she is at 45, unseeded and undone by her Russian

:53:52. > :53:57.opponent, the 13th seed. Worrying for Wozniacki who would fall outside

:53:58. > :54:02.the top 50 with defeat. Kuznetsova, a three-time quarterfinalist here

:54:03. > :54:08.was simply too good. A straight sets win and it seems she has already

:54:09. > :54:22.found her rhythm. A top ten seeding has come late to Roberta Vinci and

:54:23. > :54:32.she played an American risk -- Riske. What a response from Riske.

:54:33. > :54:37.The world number 80 took the second. A test of nerve and skilful Binchy.

:54:38. > :54:43.She passed bows. How far might this sort of touch take-up. On Court

:54:44. > :54:46.three they were waiting in dread for particular bad weather. Next on

:54:47. > :54:53.Dominic Thiem, he was up against Florian Mayer and he is marked by

:54:54. > :54:57.many as one to watch. Unfortunately there was not much chance to watch

:54:58. > :55:04.him, all play on the outside courts was suspended due to rain. Time to

:55:05. > :55:08.run for cover. STUDIO: Have to be patient the players, once they

:55:09. > :55:13.finish the matches, they have to go through press conferences. -- they

:55:14. > :55:18.have to be patient. Caroline Wozniacki was asked about off court

:55:19. > :55:22.matters as she often is as well. I just focus on myself and if I read

:55:23. > :55:26.everything that was written about me in the last 15 years, by now I would

:55:27. > :55:33.probably have jumped over a cliff. I would rather not. She has two handle

:55:34. > :55:37.it, Martina, it is tough for all of the players. It is as much about the

:55:38. > :55:43.mental strength on the court as on it. I did not like to read anything

:55:44. > :55:47.about myself. That's seed of doubt get in there and it can grow into

:55:48. > :55:52.something big. These days with the social media it is so hard to get

:55:53. > :55:56.away from it. If I were on Twitter as a player, I would not be reading,

:55:57. > :56:01.you would just post, you cannot read the stuff, it just gets nasty, there

:56:02. > :56:05.is no need to go there. There is enough to deal with on an everyday

:56:06. > :56:10.basis, getting the ball where you want to hit it without thinking this

:56:11. > :56:15.one said that all that. I do not blame her, it is difficult. The one

:56:16. > :56:20.negative comment stays with you longer than 100 positive things. Now

:56:21. > :56:24.the shot of the day, it belongs to Nick Kyrgios. There could have been

:56:25. > :56:28.many we picked from his match and some moments of sensational tennis,

:56:29. > :56:33.but this had a bit of Kyrgios cheekiness as well as the scale.

:56:34. > :56:37.That through the legs lob that landed on the line. I think that is

:56:38. > :56:45.a worthy winner. It is worth the price of admission. What a great

:56:46. > :56:49.match. These two are my favourite players to watch. Stepanek with his

:56:50. > :56:57.touch and his serve and volley in. Nick used to do this stuff all the

:56:58. > :57:03.time. -- volleys. It has stayed with him. He has been clowning around

:57:04. > :57:09.with his mates on the court. It may not suit everybody, but... He was

:57:10. > :57:15.trying to hit a lob. He has that much control, the leg is in the way.

:57:16. > :57:20.His legs are so long, you could not do it with short legs. Let's look at

:57:21. > :57:23.the order of play for tomorrow. Some sensational matches, the highlights

:57:24. > :57:40.being Roger Federer up against Marcus Willis of Great Britain.

:57:41. > :57:51.It will be good to see Dimitrov again. Heather Watson did not get to

:57:52. > :57:55.start her first round match. She will be up tomorrow. In terms of

:57:56. > :58:01.dealing with the weather, the forecast tomorrow is terrible. What

:58:02. > :58:04.do you do, as a player that is second or third on, how do you

:58:05. > :58:10.prepare? It is easier for the players later in the day, they get

:58:11. > :58:19.called off. It is the first on who get on edge. I could not... It is

:58:20. > :58:25.about managing your emotions and your stomach. Everyone is in the

:58:26. > :58:35.same boat. At least we have a roof on centre. They have to go on Centre

:58:36. > :58:41.Court. There are no outdoor courts to warm up on. Out they go. Across

:58:42. > :58:44.Somerset Road into the indoor courts and they warm up and they are ready

:58:45. > :58:51.to go. Thank you for your comments and your company. Pat Cash and

:58:52. > :58:55.Martina Navratilova. And to all at you for watching. Stan Wawrinka

:58:56. > :59:04.showed Taylor Fritz who is boss and we saw Britain's Tara Moore winning

:59:05. > :59:08.her first grand slam match. She is into the second match. Joanna
