:00:48. > :00:54.Once upon a time, there was a boy called Marcus with bags of talent
:00:55. > :01:00.and a promising tennis player. But he lacked discipline and called
:01:01. > :01:06.himself a loser. Then he met a girl who said, don't give up your dream
:01:07. > :01:10.of one day playing at Wimbledon. And today that dream from Marcus Willis
:01:11. > :01:13.comes true, because he is going to be stepping out on Centre Court
:01:14. > :01:18.against the greatest player of all time. He is in the second round
:01:19. > :01:28.against Roger Federer. You couldn't make it up. On Today at Wimbledon,
:01:29. > :01:35.we will be wallowing in the show court showdown between Willis and
:01:36. > :01:40.Federer, and we will discuss the defending champion, Novak Djokovic,
:01:41. > :01:42.and talk about Johanna Konta. This time last year
:01:43. > :01:44.on the first Wednesday, we had the hottest temperatures ever
:01:45. > :01:46.recorded at Wimbledon. Today, back to the kind
:01:47. > :01:49.of weather we're used to. Persistent drizzle for hours,
:01:50. > :01:52.a vague hope of play on the outside courts and the committed
:01:53. > :02:02.were rewarded late in the day, I am joined here in the studio by
:02:03. > :02:09.John McEnroe in Lindsay Davenport. Welcome to you both. I always wanted
:02:10. > :02:13.to win an indoor major, one of my biggest regrets is not playing under
:02:14. > :02:17.the roof at Wimbledon. And we would have heard you so clearly, to! It
:02:18. > :02:21.would have been potentially like a circus atmosphere. That is what you
:02:22. > :02:22.need on a grey day like this. You need the most unlikely
:02:23. > :02:25.story you can imagine. You need the epic underdog/overlord
:02:26. > :02:40.battle on Centre Court. If this is a time for heroes, then
:02:41. > :02:46.Marcus Willis is an unlikely one. It is an amazing story, the 25-year-old
:02:47. > :02:52.from Slough. If this was a script you sent to Hollywood, they would
:02:53. > :02:57.reject it. This was the story of a talented boy who lost his way. He
:02:58. > :03:04.played at Wimbledon as a junior, but had no hope of returning as a
:03:05. > :03:09.senior. I was a loser, I was overweight, I was convinced I was
:03:10. > :03:13.just going to go and coach. I met a girl who told me I was being an
:03:14. > :03:18.idiot. We got to know each other and I said, don't go. Give it another
:03:19. > :03:23.shot, please don't go. So he stayed, but this shouldn't have happened.
:03:24. > :03:27.First the hurdles between him and the first round were surely too
:03:28. > :03:36.high, and even when he got there, it was world number 772 against the man
:03:37. > :03:40.ranked 54th. COMMENTATOR: What a glorious stroke
:03:41. > :03:44.from Willis, and he is continuing to enjoy the occasion. Marcus Willis
:03:45. > :03:49.has romped into the second round of Wimbledon 2016.
:03:50. > :03:56.Some always believed. A small band of followers braved the queue, then
:03:57. > :04:03.removed their shoes. # Shoes off if you love Willis!
:04:04. > :04:08.Bigger feet awaited. You are going to be playing Roger Federer next.
:04:09. > :04:14.You are just laughing in disbelief! It is just a great opportunity, what
:04:15. > :04:18.I have dreams since I was young. I am just loving every minute. People
:04:19. > :04:25.will hear about it, people will know about it, so you have to support
:04:26. > :04:29.him, rightfully so. As he prepared for the match of his life, perhaps
:04:30. > :04:33.Marcus Willis will have reflected on a song he has taken to singing with
:04:34. > :04:50.his girlfriend. In the words of Freddie Mercury, cap toggle play the
:04:51. > :04:53.game. -- Play The Game. And he was determined to give the crowd and his
:04:54. > :05:00.fans what they had come to see, but mainly to have fun out here. To play
:05:01. > :05:05.the game as it should be played. Players with heavy slice on both
:05:06. > :05:10.sides, he has a strong lefty serve as well, but not enough to bother
:05:11. > :05:12.Federer in the opening set. It took awhile for things to settle, despite
:05:13. > :05:26.the odd of brilliance. At times, it seemed like exhibition
:05:27. > :05:30.tennis, it was great stuff. But the first set raced away in favour of
:05:31. > :05:36.the seven times champion, Federer winning 6-0. We will pick it up in
:05:37. > :05:42.the second, Willis serving, Federer having held at the very beginning.
:05:43. > :05:56.JOHN McENROE: Lets hope he gets on the board here.
:05:57. > :06:10.ANDREW CASTLE: Rilee? UMPIRE: Mr Willis challenges the
:06:11. > :06:23.call. And it is in! CHEERING
:06:24. > :06:54.A standing ovation coming up. We need to put Roger in the second row
:06:55. > :07:26.here, come on. In years to come he will say, the
:07:27. > :07:27.first half an hour wasn't very good, but I was superb after that! 29
:07:28. > :08:17.minutes played. CHEERING
:08:18. > :08:26.Yes! You beauty! This thing has changed
:08:27. > :08:31.on Centre Court for Marcus Willis. He storms to his first game.
:08:32. > :08:41.Willis' girlfriend, his parents, his friends celebrating as he got his
:08:42. > :08:55.first game on the board. We join it later in the second set.
:08:56. > :09:03.No shortage of touch, Marcus Willis. He plays for the Warwick boat club,
:09:04. > :09:12.coaches up there. You can have him for ?30 an hour.
:09:13. > :09:24.JOHN McENROE: I am thinking the rate has gone up! It deserves to. He is
:09:25. > :09:25.out here playing this tennis match, overwhelming, as we would expect,
:09:26. > :09:44.the first set. You don't win seven matches by
:09:45. > :09:45.chance. He came through qualifying and prequalifying, and that first
:09:46. > :10:06.round victory. He has got good feel for the ball
:10:07. > :10:11.and hands. He is trying to do the near impossible, which is get Roger
:10:12. > :10:20.Federer off-balance. Grimacing a bit, with that shoulder
:10:21. > :10:52.tightening up. UMPIRE: Correction, the ball was
:10:53. > :10:53.good. But was overruled, he is going to have a look at it.
:10:54. > :11:08.UMPIRE: The ball was called in. It was in. Roger says, why did you
:11:09. > :11:16.do it in the middle of a good white? Replay the point. Mr Federer has two
:11:17. > :11:23.challenges remaining. That is what he actually said.
:11:24. > :11:39.The Kirk that. -- look at that. CLARE BALDING: A second game on the
:11:40. > :11:44.board, but Federer, having broken from a 3-2 lead, served out to take
:11:45. > :11:48.the second set 6-3. But Willis was not just enjoying it, he was really
:11:49. > :11:50.warmed up Tommy was laying great tennis, we join it in the third,
:11:51. > :13:05.2-2, Willis to serve. UMPIRE: Mr Willis is challenging the
:13:06. > :13:12.ball. Good idea to challenge, he might actually get the point. Let's
:13:13. > :13:20.see if he will. The ball is in, that is 40-0! I think they should give
:13:21. > :13:26.Willis the point. That call was made after.
:13:27. > :13:29.UMPIRE: Replay the point. That is seven times winning
:13:30. > :13:33.Wimbledon, because that had no bearing on that return. He needs a
:13:34. > :13:40.break, this guy. BOOING
:13:41. > :13:49.That's it. That is the last time I support him!
:13:50. > :14:00.CHEERING He brought out the hammer on that
:14:01. > :14:05.one, said, no chance, disrespect me, you seven time champion. Greatest of
:14:06. > :14:15.all time person from Switzerland. CHEERING
:14:16. > :14:22.UMPIRE: Willis lead 3-2. CLARE BALDING: The crowd were
:14:23. > :14:26.desperate for the fightback to begin, but there is a reason Roger
:14:27. > :14:28.Federer has won more Grand Slam titles than anybody else. Here he is
:14:29. > :14:53.serving for the match. That was unusual to say the least.
:14:54. > :15:05.Feeling the pressure to close this out.
:15:06. > :15:47.Even seven time Wimbledon champions are human. Two inexplicable misses.
:15:48. > :15:59.But he can shrug it off so well, just move on. CROWD: I love you,
:16:00. > :16:13.Roger! LAUGHTER
:16:14. > :17:18.No eight game for Marcus Willis. The handshake will be warm.
:17:19. > :17:25.I was personally very intrigued about his story before he was even
:17:26. > :17:28.in my section of the draw, just him qualifying in itself was massive,
:17:29. > :17:31.let alone him winning the first round and having the draw to play on
:17:32. > :17:36.Centre Court, so I thought it was extremely cool. I even watched the
:17:37. > :17:39.BBC programme this morning about the build-up of other fans coming and
:17:40. > :17:47.what they were going to sing, it'll put me on the right mood and I
:17:48. > :17:54.wasn't disappointed. The crowd was fantastic and I thought markers did
:17:55. > :17:57.really well. And the man that they call Willbomb is here in the studio
:17:58. > :18:04.with us. It was amazing from start to finish. What did Federer say to
:18:05. > :18:07.you before you walked out on court? I met him earlier, my girlfriend and
:18:08. > :18:14.mum wanted a photo with him, and he has been a true gent. And that
:18:15. > :18:23.difficult thing of who goes first through the door, did he de Vrij the
:18:24. > :18:28.choice? He just let me go, I was going to give him the choice. I have
:18:29. > :18:33.to ask you, when you qualified and beat Berankis in the first round,
:18:34. > :18:36.and you knew you were going to play Roger Federer, did you think there
:18:37. > :18:42.was a moment when you thought you could beat him? It is like a fairy
:18:43. > :18:50.tale. I had a plan for the match, I believed I could win it. Rightly or
:18:51. > :18:54.wrongly. What was the plan? Get him moving, hit more to his backhand,
:18:55. > :19:04.but obviously he is the best player of all time, it is hard to do. Is
:19:05. > :19:09.there one single moment of the match you will remember? The whole thing
:19:10. > :19:13.was ridiculous, there were good points and bad points. Did you check
:19:14. > :19:21.your heart rate before you started? Just before you walked out there? It
:19:22. > :19:29.was awesome. The whole thing was amazing. I wasn't really that
:19:30. > :19:32.nervous. I loved your attitude throughout, because you were so
:19:33. > :19:37.appreciative. Your sister there is almost in tears, your girlfriend is
:19:38. > :19:41.so proud of you, look at this hub between your parents, which was so
:19:42. > :19:47.nice. You just knew this was the moment of your life. So far. I don't
:19:48. > :19:52.know how I am ever going to beat this, playing as a prequalify and
:19:53. > :19:58.qualifier, won a match here as well, and then that, I held it together
:19:59. > :20:04.but it was so good. Did you really nearly cry? Yes, I was close. Have
:20:05. > :20:09.you had a chance to talk to any of your gang, your parents, Jenny? Five
:20:10. > :20:17.minutes with Jenny, less. I spoke to my coach a little bit. The first set
:20:18. > :20:21.went by very fast. When you are playing someone like Federer, and he
:20:22. > :20:26.can get back shots that nobody else can, and this by the way we think is
:20:27. > :20:30.shot of the day, you getting up from the slipped then actually lobbed
:20:31. > :20:34.him, and it came off, but when you are nervous, and you have this
:20:35. > :20:39.massive event, what happens? What can you control and what can't you
:20:40. > :20:43.control? I can control my game. I can't control what Roger Federer
:20:44. > :20:48.does. I can try to hit the ball where he can't hit a winner off it,
:20:49. > :20:53.which is quite specific, actually. But yes, as I said, it is just the
:20:54. > :20:59.whole thing is just incredible. There is a rumour that you are
:21:00. > :21:04.scheduled to play a match tomorrow in county tennis, is that right?
:21:05. > :21:14.Yes, Coventry league. It is kind of a big deal. I am playing with Gavin.
:21:15. > :21:18.It is a must win game. Have you had Gavin played a lot together? We have
:21:19. > :21:24.played two matches and we are unbeaten! Is your shoulder OK for
:21:25. > :21:30.that match? I am a little bit sore, I will ring Gavin after. I will want
:21:31. > :21:35.to play, but I will say about my movement. My first match I played
:21:36. > :21:39.here in 1977, I was in the juniors, and I was in the quarters of the
:21:40. > :21:42.main draw, and they told me if I lost the quarterfinal match that I
:21:43. > :21:46.would have to play the juniors, so that gave me incentive, when you are
:21:47. > :21:51.feeling pressure, you had to beat Federer, you had to play this club
:21:52. > :21:58.match tomorrow? This is just a warm up for the Coventry league! Your
:21:59. > :22:03.ranking is going to go flying up, not your all-time high, though, you
:22:04. > :22:09.will be in the 400s after this. What will you set yourself as your next
:22:10. > :22:12.target? I want to be a top 100 tennis player, and I think I'm good
:22:13. > :22:17.enough to, so that is the process. I'm going to work very, very hard,
:22:18. > :22:21.as I have done in the last two years, hope to stay injury free and
:22:22. > :22:24.give it a good go. Well, we wish you well. You gave a lot of people a lot
:22:25. > :22:31.of entertainment, and it is maybe what we needed right now, so well
:22:32. > :22:34.done. Good luck! Federer saying that this shouldn't be the end, and he
:22:35. > :22:39.hopes that newspapers continue to follow you. What is your best
:22:40. > :22:42.surface? I think grass now! LAUGHTER
:22:43. > :22:44.A fair few matches were held over from yesterday,
:22:45. > :22:46.including Britain's number one woman, Johanna Konta,
:22:47. > :22:47.who resumed her match against Monica Puig.
:22:48. > :22:50.On her fifth visit to Wimbledon, Konta was trying
:22:51. > :23:08.On pure ranking, Konta should be the strong favourite. So good. What a
:23:09. > :23:15.start for Jo Konta. Explosive return.
:23:16. > :23:26.The serving is really doing the job. Well, she couldn't have creamed it
:23:27. > :23:32.would start as well as this. -- dreams it would start. And she races
:23:33. > :23:38.through the first set in 23 minutes. CLARE BALDING: So she was firmly in
:23:39. > :23:45.the ascendancy yesterday, but when they resume today, Puig started the
:23:46. > :23:46.better, we join with her leading 4-3. Simon Reed Sam Smith are the
:23:47. > :24:07.commentary box. SIMON READ: Is it my imagination, or
:24:08. > :24:10.is she not quite as quick as she was yesterday, Jo Konta? Her timing
:24:11. > :24:41.isn't quite right on her forehand. Got really down on that one. With
:24:42. > :24:45.all the rain we have had leading to the Championships, and the first few
:24:46. > :24:52.days, the courts are still release off. The ball is not bouncing up,
:24:53. > :25:04.the courts are not playing as they would do 20 years ago.
:25:05. > :25:21.She is in pole position, that's for sure. Maybe there is doubt as to
:25:22. > :25:27.whether it was going out, but oh, boy. Needs another do over.
:25:28. > :25:48.UMPIRE: Let, first service. And for a woman of five foot seven,
:25:49. > :26:33.she does have a penetrating serve. She did well because there was a
:26:34. > :26:37.ball at the baseline just before which looked like it could have been
:26:38. > :26:41.out, but she went with it. And won the point impressively.
:26:42. > :27:13.Right there, difficult shot. And here is break back point.
:27:14. > :27:22.Some meaty hitting. Mr Ban career on the left, a quiet man but a big
:27:23. > :28:01.influence on Jo Konta. Again, the serve doing the trick for
:28:02. > :29:24.Monica. Close. Thought about a challenge,
:29:25. > :29:30.but not getting involved. Sometimes what is a very handy for opponents
:29:31. > :29:35.of Puig is that you get the same ball coming back at you. It is flat,
:29:36. > :29:36.it is hard, it is heavy, but once you can get your head around it and
:29:37. > :30:01.get your timing, it is OK. There is a bit of work to do on that
:30:02. > :30:26.second serve us well. He wants to be back in Miami!
:30:27. > :30:34.A great response from Konta to break back there. We rejoin it with the
:30:35. > :30:47.Ayr serving to take the second set in a tie-break. -- with Puig.
:30:48. > :30:59.She has such a good temperament. And very good technique. It is a simple
:31:00. > :31:14.game efficiently produced. That is a good package.
:31:15. > :31:29.Two cracking backhands from each player.
:31:30. > :32:43.The loudest noise we have had so far.
:32:44. > :33:04.Konta on the brink of her first-ever win at Wimbledon.
:33:05. > :33:16.CHEERING And boy, does she finish with a
:33:17. > :33:24.flourish. A magnificent final game from the British number one. Well, I
:33:25. > :33:29.am obviously very happy to be in the singles event here. I did not put as
:33:30. > :33:34.much pressure on myself in that context. I have made the second week
:33:35. > :33:38.of Wimbledon with Mixed Doubles. I have experience of winning here but
:33:39. > :33:45.just not on the singles court. I am very happy to be involved and
:33:46. > :33:50.looking forward to the next round. Konta says she never looks at the
:33:51. > :33:58.drawer until she has two but she will be facing Eugenie Bouchard who
:33:59. > :34:04.is on the comeback trail. She won her match on Centre Court under the
:34:05. > :34:07.roof. That has changed the rules because you never used to be able to
:34:08. > :34:16.change courts. I wish they had kept playing. We
:34:17. > :34:21.were talking about some of these poor guys who are in the first round
:34:22. > :34:35.he will have to play three days in a row. I can think of an American, for
:34:36. > :34:45.example. John Isner, for example. Let's reflect on Jo Konta. That was
:34:46. > :34:51.a big win? It is huge. She is seeded 16 and had never won a match here.
:34:52. > :34:55.There is probably five or six women who are floaters that the seeds
:34:56. > :35:04.don't want to play. Puig was one of them. She was so intense out there
:35:05. > :35:11.in the court. For Johanna Konta, it does not get any easier. She has one
:35:12. > :35:16.of the tougher draws. She now plays Eugenie Bouchard. What is it about
:35:17. > :35:22.Konta that impresses you? You think she is a contender and does she
:35:23. > :35:32.think she is a contender? I don't think contender, you start small.
:35:33. > :35:35.She has made a Grand Slam semi. Her goal was probably second week, the
:35:36. > :35:39.last 16 quarters and then see what will happen. To picture her holding
:35:40. > :35:44.the trophy is a little too much. I think she can definitely do the
:35:45. > :35:49.second week. She is a fantastic athlete, she hits the ball well, she
:35:50. > :35:58.is an incredibly hard worker, she wants that. Sometimes those things
:35:59. > :36:00.can outweigh the game flaws. She was not the only British player in
:36:01. > :36:03.action. Besides Willis and Konta,
:36:04. > :36:05.there were two other British Heather Watson took the first set
:36:06. > :36:08.against Germany's Annika Beck 6-3, but then lost seven games in a row
:36:09. > :36:12.to concede the second and go Beck then suffered a nasty slip,
:36:13. > :36:16.and while she was having The players left court. Watson took
:36:17. > :36:24.the first set 6-3. Dan Evans' match was also
:36:25. > :36:26.halted by the weather, just as he and 30th seed
:36:27. > :36:29.Alexandr Dolgpolov were about to go Now to the the man who holds
:36:30. > :36:34.all four Grand Slam titles and was looking for a landmark win
:36:35. > :36:44.in a major. Novak Djokovic was up
:36:45. > :36:55.aginst a birthday boy. Djokovic's win over James Ward was
:36:56. > :37:02.his 20 night in a row. He was looking to make it 30 as his quest
:37:03. > :37:06.for a calendar Grand Slam continues. France's Adrian Mannarino also beat
:37:07. > :37:10.a British player in round one, Kyle Edmund in straight sets. His best
:37:11. > :37:19.run at Wimbledon was in 2013 when he reached the fourth round. Djokovic
:37:20. > :37:24.took the first two sets. We will join it with Djokovic a break up.
:37:25. > :38:55.Commentary from Mark Petchey and Tim Henman.
:38:56. > :39:39.MARK PETCHEY: That looked like the last chance, it probably is.
:39:40. > :39:56.TIM HENMAN: You sense Mannarino has enjoyed his time on Centre Court. He
:39:57. > :40:03.is not keen to leave yet. What he wants and what he's going to
:40:04. > :40:36.get our two different things. He did really well not to guess with
:40:37. > :40:45.his footwork. He gave himself a chance and he has
:40:46. > :41:19.another one here. For the first time in a match
:41:20. > :41:45.Mannarino broke the Djokovic serve. We take it into the tie-break.
:41:46. > :42:23.This is the best he has managed to play so far.
:42:24. > :42:39.It is his ability to keep repeating and keep his opponent at bay.
:42:40. > :42:42.Incredible timing, balance, I half-volley flicked on the baseline
:42:43. > :43:29.for a clean winner up the line. Absolutely outstanding!
:43:30. > :44:12.CHEERING Just under hit it. The right idea.
:44:13. > :44:15.Just under hit it and slightly overplayed it. Didn't need to be
:44:16. > :44:50.quite that good. And absolute delight to watch. A gem
:44:51. > :45:22.from the world number one. Maybe that was why Mannarino tried
:45:23. > :45:24.to do a drop volley that close because he has seen it so many times
:45:25. > :46:01.in the past. Saw the space appearing behind
:46:02. > :47:30.Mannarino and had to chase where he was. There was no going back.
:47:31. > :47:59.A dramatic end to just such an attractive point.
:48:00. > :48:04.Novak just checking with the umpire that he managed to dig that out. He
:48:05. > :48:34.did so. They are great players in their own
:48:35. > :48:38.right as we have seen with Mannarino. He has acquitted himself
:48:39. > :48:41.so well out here but ultimately, it looks like it will be in vain as
:48:42. > :49:39.Novak has two match points. It is his return that gets it. Novak
:49:40. > :49:47.notches up yet another win in a major title.
:49:48. > :49:55.Novak, congratulations today, your 30th consecutive Grand Slam victory.
:49:56. > :50:01.How much are you a keeper of records yourself? Every record achievement
:50:02. > :50:15.is obviously very pleasing to my years and to Almighty of course. --
:50:16. > :50:18.and to my team of course. To be able to stand alongside all-time greats
:50:19. > :50:26.such as Rod Laver is truly honouring and very flattering so identikit for
:50:27. > :50:33.granted. In contrary, it gives me even more motivation. I still want
:50:34. > :50:36.to keep on going and see if I can breaks and other records.
:50:37. > :50:40.Let's be honest, that is the achievement that will make headlines
:50:41. > :50:47.around the world, the 30th consecutive Grand Slam winner, a new
:50:48. > :50:52.open a record. The consistency of Novak is outstanding. Rod Laver is
:50:53. > :50:59.his idol, that was 47 years ago. Roger Federer could not do it,
:51:00. > :51:02.Rafael Nadal hasn't done it, this guy has done it. What this guy is
:51:03. > :51:07.doing is bordering superhuman, maybe it is superhuman. When you see him
:51:08. > :51:12.slip up even the tiniest bit, when he was going to finish off
:51:13. > :51:18.Mannarino, a fantastic tie-breaker, this is what gives the other players
:51:19. > :51:23.the challenges, trying to close the gap, the slightest bit of hope, that
:51:24. > :51:26.he will have an off day. Right now, you have got to appreciate it,
:51:27. > :51:33.because this is history making and he stays healthy -- if he stays
:51:34. > :51:42.healthy, it will be hard for Roger to keep that record. I remember when
:51:43. > :51:47.Sampras retired with 40 at the open. He walked off that court and he did
:51:48. > :51:52.not think someone is going to break in the next ten years. He has three
:51:53. > :51:57.guys now. Nadal is tied with him, Novak is two away and Roger passed.
:51:58. > :52:02.It is unbelievable what we have been watching in the last ten years.
:52:03. > :52:09.Djokovic does not seem to be lacking any motivation. He said he will use
:52:10. > :52:15.this to kick him on again. He has a lot to play for and I think he is
:52:16. > :52:19.always thinking about trying to catch Roger and Rafa. He has these
:52:20. > :52:23.guys playing in his era and he wants to be remembered as just as great as
:52:24. > :52:29.or greater. That gives them a lot of motivation. He has done such a great
:52:30. > :52:35.job of winning matches when he has not played his best. He played one
:52:36. > :52:40.match in Australia, 100 and forced errors, five sets, gets through the
:52:41. > :52:44.match no problem. Then he plays a level tennis through the tournament.
:52:45. > :52:50.Most players do not have the ability to improve as the tournament goes
:52:51. > :52:54.on. He was playing under the roof. Suddenly in the late evening we got
:52:55. > :53:00.some play on the outside courts so there is plenty for Paddy Geary to
:53:01. > :53:05.round up. One of those days, to sleep,
:53:06. > :53:10.perchance to dream of some tennis. I is opened, covers came off.
:53:11. > :53:18.Yesterday's rain kept even to Dick from defeat to Tomas Berdych. --
:53:19. > :53:22.Ivan Dodig. He managed to save two points and take it to a tie-break
:53:23. > :53:27.but Berdych knows you have to get these things finished when you can.
:53:28. > :53:34.He might be without a coach but the Number Ten seed is into round two.
:53:35. > :53:43.On Court 17, it was worth catching Andrea Petkovic's match against Nao
:53:44. > :53:48.Hibino when you could. Around 4.5 minutes later, the 32nd seed had
:53:49. > :53:52.beaten her opponent and the rain. Then it got wet. Those hours of
:53:53. > :53:57.waiting before they could get back on court. Even then Alexander Zverev
:53:58. > :54:01.had some DIY to do. That is the only thing the 24th seed needed to catch
:54:02. > :54:08.up. He recently beat Roger Federer will stop he beat Paul-Henri
:54:09. > :54:12.Mathieu. Yesterday, the weather deprived office of -- of a chance to
:54:13. > :54:16.get much of a look at Dominic Thiem. Hotly tipped by many. We only got
:54:17. > :54:23.glimpses this morning before the weather came in. He was back out on
:54:24. > :54:28.Florian Mayer. He rattled through the German in straight sets. Dominic
:54:29. > :54:36.Thiem has won more matches than any others on grass, clay and hard
:54:37. > :54:40.court. Was this a glimpse of a future champion? Wimbledon brings
:54:41. > :54:46.the best from Petra Kvitova. She barely gave Paul Sorana Cirstea shot
:54:47. > :54:51.in the first set. Kvitova is only the 10th feed but must be a decent
:54:52. > :54:57.bet given her record. Cirstea could not contain her. He will be able to?
:54:58. > :55:00.Centre Court is of course a bubble where you can ignore the weather and
:55:01. > :55:08.admire the tennis. Those lucky enough to be dry got a chance to see
:55:09. > :55:15.the third seed Agnieszka Radwanska in full flow.
:55:16. > :55:22.Too much for Kateryna Kozlova. Radwanska lost here four years ago.
:55:23. > :55:29.She will have her rise on a happier ending now.
:55:30. > :55:37.A lot of people were impressed with Belinda Bencic. She beat Pironkova
:55:38. > :55:43.6-2, 6-3. That was her first experience on Centre Court.
:55:44. > :55:51.Now, we talked a lot about Marcus Willis but we did not talk about
:55:52. > :55:57.Roger Federer. Who?! And how he handled the situation of the crowd
:55:58. > :56:03.not being with him which is rare. He said in 1999 he thought it was at
:56:04. > :56:08.the last time in this tournament that the crowd was for the opponent.
:56:09. > :56:15.It did not feel like a match, it felt like an exhibition.
:56:16. > :56:22.Fortunately, Willis started playing tennis and made it at least
:56:23. > :56:26.semi-competitive. His game plan was to bring Roger in and use those drop
:56:27. > :56:31.shots and drop volleys. That helped Roger because he is a little
:56:32. > :56:38.hesitant about moving forward. He is not sure about his knee. It could
:56:39. > :56:41.have been believe it or not, a blessing in disguise, this big win!
:56:42. > :57:09.We are going to get shot of the day to Marcus Willis. It was a good one.
:57:10. > :57:20.COMMENTATOR: That was unbelievable! Roger was laughing but he was
:57:21. > :57:24.laughing even more when the match was wrapped up. I asked Marcus if
:57:25. > :57:29.there was ever a moment when he thought he could win and I think the
:57:30. > :57:32.honest answer would have been No and there was never a moment Roger
:57:33. > :57:36.thought he would lose. Those are nice matches when you walk on the
:57:37. > :57:45.court and play theirs. Let's have a look at tomorrow's order of play.
:57:46. > :57:50.Play on the outside courts starts at 11 o'clock. Kei Nishikori is
:57:51. > :57:56.struggling with injuries. He is up against Julien Benneteau. Then we
:57:57. > :58:03.have Andy Murray in his second-round opponent. It is the same opponent he
:58:04. > :58:07.faced in 2013. And then join a Konta up against Eugenie Bouchard. --
:58:08. > :58:26.Johanna Konta. Dominic Thiem, a very exciting
:58:27. > :58:29.Austrian player will be playing. Heather Watson has still got to
:58:30. > :58:36.finish off against and Quebec who will have had treatment now for her
:58:37. > :58:43.ankle injury -- Annika Beck. You can join Sue Barker on BBC Two. We will
:58:44. > :58:50.be an slightly later tomorrow which will not bother you because you will
:58:51. > :58:57.not be here! It will be 9:30pm for those who want to catch up on the
:58:58. > :59:01.day's play. I will have a cold beer and be watching! It was a rain
:59:02. > :59:05.disrupted day but we had a man who made us smile, made us laugh and
:59:06. > :59:10.showed us that sport is fun.
