:01:04. > :01:22.hosts for tonight, Clare Balding and Mark Chapman!
:01:23. > :01:32.Hello! My word! What a fantastic welcome, thank you so much!
:01:33. > :01:34.Good evening and welcome to Tonight at the Games.
:01:35. > :01:37.An hour in which we can indulge our love of all things sporting with a
:01:38. > :01:39.Commonwealth line-up of gymnastics, athletics, cycling, diving, bowls,
:01:40. > :01:52.The 400m World Record holder Michael Johnson and the new Commonwealth
:01:53. > :02:13.record holder Kirani James, Beth Tweddle, Chris Boardman, the new
:02:14. > :02:21.-- Dave Weir is here, after having one Commonwealth Gold. And we have
:02:22. > :02:29.our fingers crossed that Eilidh Child, fresh from getting silver at
:02:30. > :02:32.Hampden Park, will be here later. It is a great line-up and we will
:02:33. > :02:36.have to keep moving. But I think we should honour
:02:37. > :02:39.some other athletes as well. For this,
:02:40. > :02:45.I need the help of the Federation. Not all of you,
:02:46. > :03:05.just Dave and Johnny on sax. Just take it away because this will
:03:06. > :03:08.help. As you can see, it is not just the athletes getting into the
:03:09. > :03:17.sporting spirit of things, this is at the hockey today. The police
:03:18. > :03:22.having a go on the hamster wheel! It is fair to say that never have the
:03:23. > :03:29.police in Scotland felt so much love! It is a good Games when even
:03:30. > :03:33.the police are competing. Back to the proper competition.
:03:34. > :03:36.On the streets of Glasgow this morning, the crowds were out
:03:37. > :03:39.and the visors were down, as the cyclists put pedal to the metal.
:03:40. > :03:44.40km for the men, 30 for the women, it started and ended in the city,
:03:45. > :03:58.I am at Glasgow Green for the time trial. The rules are simple. He or
:03:59. > :04:02.she who is fastest wins. Starting with the women's race over 30
:04:03. > :04:07.kilometres and the home nation interests rests largely on
:04:08. > :04:12.England's Emma Pooley, Scotland's Katie Archibald and Wales's Barker.
:04:13. > :04:16.But they have to beat Linda Villumsen.
:04:17. > :04:22.Linda Villumsen is highly fancied, what a time. Superb time for Katie
:04:23. > :04:27.Archibald. That is cheating, for a start.
:04:28. > :04:33.Barker, former champion. She has settled into a rhythm.
:04:34. > :04:37.Incredible acceleration. Emma Pooley is flying. She definitely has her
:04:38. > :04:44.eyes on the prize. Parker towards the finish.
:04:45. > :04:49.-- Barker. Last couple of metres of effort for Katie Archibald, the
:04:50. > :04:54.20-year-old over the line. Superb riding from Emma Pooley.
:04:55. > :04:59.Emma Pooley has flown past with the fastest time currently but Linda
:05:00. > :05:03.Villumsen from New Zealand is on her tail.
:05:04. > :05:07.Linda Villumsen is going to do it. She dug deep, and Emma Pooley of
:05:08. > :05:11.England is denied. An amazing race, England's Emma
:05:12. > :05:17.Pooley looked like she would be the fastest but Linda Villumsen beat her
:05:18. > :05:23.and she won Gold, and coming up in third place was the Australian.
:05:24. > :05:29.Now to the men's. Geraint Thomas, two times Olympic champion. He could
:05:30. > :05:36.be a factor, Dennis. This is England's Alex Dowsett.
:05:37. > :05:40.Multiple national champion against the watch on the road.
:05:41. > :05:48.Last out is defending Commonwealth champion, Scotland's David Millar.
:05:49. > :05:51.Stage winner in all three tours, defending Commonwealth champion
:05:52. > :05:56.under in Glasgow. David Millar sets off.
:05:57. > :06:01.Geraint Thomas is doing really well, showing no signs of fatigue after
:06:02. > :06:04.the Tour de France that some were talking about.
:06:05. > :06:10.Rohan Dennis, head of Geraint Thomas. Alex Dowsett.
:06:11. > :06:12.They will struggle to beat David Millar.
:06:13. > :06:16.He is 50 seconds down and in ninth position.
:06:17. > :06:19.David Millar is struggling and you can feel the hold on the daily Gold
:06:20. > :06:24.slipping. This is Geraint Thomas.
:06:25. > :06:29.The new fastest time. Rohan Dennis crosses the line and
:06:30. > :06:32.Geraint Thomas is into the silver medal position.
:06:33. > :06:40.The last couple of metres, he has done it. Silver four years ago, Gold
:06:41. > :06:44.in Glasgow for Alex Dowsett and England.
:06:45. > :06:48.There it is, the bronze medal goes to Wales and Geraint Thomas, silver
:06:49. > :06:53.to Australia's Rohan Dennis, and the Commonwealth Gold goes from
:06:54. > :06:58.Scotland's David Millar to England's Alex Dowsett. But it stays
:06:59. > :07:00.within Great Britain, although these things go in cycles!
:07:01. > :07:07.Sorry! Very good!
:07:08. > :07:13.Two night in a row. But he loves it. If you want to get in touch, we can
:07:14. > :07:16.see what you are saying. Mick says he is disappointed with
:07:17. > :07:21.our walk on this evening and he wanted us to prep test that entrance
:07:22. > :07:24.with cart wheels and back flicks. -- backflips. That really is not going
:07:25. > :07:35.to happen. Please welcome Chris Boardman!
:07:36. > :07:44.Before we welcome other medallists, how tough was that this morning?
:07:45. > :07:50.Incredibly difficult. It had a bit of everything. It was designed by
:07:51. > :07:55.Alistair Maclennan, Scottish team manager, and he has done a good job
:07:56. > :07:59.to find a course that started in the centre of town and which took on the
:08:00. > :08:04.different elements of hills, descents, everything. It brought out
:08:05. > :08:08.the racing because the lead kept changing.
:08:09. > :08:12.Now let's give a warm welcome to two men who competed that time trial
:08:13. > :08:15.best. The new Commonwealth champion from England Alex Dowsett and the
:08:16. > :08:39.bronze-medallist from Wales, Geraint Thomas!
:08:40. > :08:52.Are you calm? Because afterwards, you said you won this angry. It has
:08:53. > :08:55.been a difficult month. I got sick in the tour of Switzerland,
:08:56. > :09:01.something as simple as a sore throw and on the second day, it developed
:09:02. > :09:06.into bronchitis and I had to leave the Tour de France. -- sore throw.
:09:07. > :09:11.That has been my goal from the moment I left Team Sky. So to have
:09:12. > :09:18.that taken away at the last minute was a massive disappointment. So I
:09:19. > :09:21.was determined here to prove not to anyone in particular other than
:09:22. > :09:28.myself that I am capable of competing at that level. Did you
:09:29. > :09:35.watch the tour or could you not? The first two days in the UK, I had to
:09:36. > :09:43.go to the sponsors beforehand which I did insult to injury. -- which
:09:44. > :09:46.added. But I went to the British Grand Prix to get away. Monday was
:09:47. > :09:58.tough, I came through as six where I live. So that was hard. -- Essex.
:09:59. > :10:05.Once the tour left into friends, -- into friends, I went to see how the
:10:06. > :10:13.team was doing. -- into the Tour de France. If he has won it angry, have
:10:14. > :10:19.you a plan to stop him being angry? I said I would buy him some flowers
:10:20. > :10:26.to cheer him up! A teddy bear. How aware you going round the course of
:10:27. > :10:31.where you are on the clock? Are you just going with it? Usually, but I
:10:32. > :10:38.had a radio which did not work! It did not help. But generally, you
:10:39. > :10:45.have the team behind you. You get a time check. And when it comes to
:10:46. > :10:51.corners, we only went round the course once, so over 40 K, it is a
:10:52. > :10:56.lot to take on. They remind you of sitting corners. Stuff coming up,
:10:57. > :10:59.basically. I was watching you talk to Jonathan and you were talking
:11:00. > :11:04.about how sometimes, being in the Tour de France could help in an
:11:05. > :11:13.event like this because in some ways, right, is has rowed over 2,000
:11:14. > :11:21.miles, -- has written over 2,000 miles, but you still have
:11:22. > :11:25.adrenaline. Some people are in a box for the rest of the season and
:11:26. > :11:30.others think they can carry on. I suspect you were not in the latter
:11:31. > :11:40.category. I did not want to carry on. Three days is not much. Quite
:11:41. > :11:45.unique. Amazing he is still capable of walking, let alone cycling. Alex,
:11:46. > :11:50.it is extraordinary you are able to be a professional cyclist, explain
:11:51. > :11:59.why. Other than having a nut case sister, I have got... I was not
:12:00. > :12:03.referring to that. I have haemophilia, my blood does not clot.
:12:04. > :12:10.So from an early age, we were told I would grow up and have limited range
:12:11. > :12:16.of movement in my joints, internal bleeding, I had to avoid contact
:12:17. > :12:20.sports. It is funny, that is sort of what got me into cycling because the
:12:21. > :12:25.doctors said that on top of the medication I have from the NHS to
:12:26. > :12:34.keep my courting levels normal, they said swimming was a good way of
:12:35. > :12:42.maintaining fitness -- clotting. And while I could not do all the contact
:12:43. > :12:49.sports, it made me angry. That is coming up a lot! So to find a sport
:12:50. > :12:57.I could do, I ended up trying different sports. My dad was a
:12:58. > :13:02.racing driver so I did go karting. But I was no Lewis Hamilton. That
:13:03. > :13:12.did not happen. But I fell into cycling and I started with a local
:13:13. > :13:17.club. I had fitness and stamina from swimming. So if it had not been for
:13:18. > :13:22.my haemophilia, I would not be swimming as much and I might be
:13:23. > :13:28.playing other sports. But because my haemophilia, I went and so I was
:13:29. > :13:32.quick on the bike straightaway. So I have set up a charity and that is
:13:33. > :13:40.the message we are promoting. To children everywhere. To try all
:13:41. > :13:44.sports. If somebody here could be -- somebody here could be as quick as
:13:45. > :13:50.Lewis Hamilton if they get the opportunity. There are a lot of
:13:51. > :13:54.sports and that is the great thing about the Olympics and Commonwealth
:13:55. > :13:59.Games, it shows people of all ages how many different sports there are.
:14:00. > :14:04.You are a fine example, no better way of advertising get than winning
:14:05. > :14:14.the Gold medal, thank you for coming in. Alex Dowsett and Geraint Thomas.
:14:15. > :14:17.You may think there are no horses at the Commonwealth Games,
:14:18. > :14:24.There is one, the pommel horse, and the master
:14:25. > :14:35.of riding it has been Louis Smith. So did Max Whitlock. Katherine
:14:36. > :14:45.Grainger got the ticket to watch this.
:14:46. > :14:53.Alexander the great is reputed to have used one. -- that is the. Max
:14:54. > :14:58.Whitlock, Dan Keatings and Louis Smith are all ready to make sure
:14:59. > :15:09.this is a truly world-class final. Dan Keatings. He is in with a chance
:15:10. > :15:24.of a medal. Very nice work indeed. Keep that swing. Danielle Keating
:15:25. > :15:34.'s, swinging clean. -- Dan Keatings. He is through, he has laid down the
:15:35. > :15:40.gauntlet. Louis Smith, for England. He has put in so much work, he was
:15:41. > :15:51.back in the gym for his comeback. Now, it is his time to shine. Oh, he
:15:52. > :15:55.has lost his rhythm. Well... He has enjoyed the moment, for what it is
:15:56. > :16:02.worth. It rained up the gold for Louis Smith. But it was all about
:16:03. > :16:09.proving that he could. That he could come back. Max Whitlock. He is more
:16:10. > :16:21.than capable by their very big score to bid. This is great. He keeps his
:16:22. > :16:29.rhythm. Silver for Max Whitlock! 15.96. It was close to 16.
:16:30. > :16:37.Confirmation, Dan Keatings has taken the gold medal, his first of these
:16:38. > :16:43.championships. And there is the golden boy. Scotland's Dan Keatings.
:16:44. > :16:50.Congratulations, that smile says it all. That was amazing. If I did that
:16:51. > :16:54.anywhere else it would have been awesome body in front of this crowd
:16:55. > :16:58.was unbelievable and when I stood on the podium and the national anthem
:16:59. > :17:04.is going and the crowd was singing, I felt so proud.
:17:05. > :17:09.It was brilliant, the crowd was fantastic and I was clapping them at
:17:10. > :17:15.the end because it did get me through that routine, if I am
:17:16. > :17:19.honest. It was really good fun. I am amazed to see the race still on this
:17:20. > :17:22.place because he cried at the Hydro were the most deafening and had ever
:17:23. > :17:27.heard. Giving a rapturous reaction to all three medallists but when Dan
:17:28. > :17:34.Keatings took the gold medal, it completely erupted. Dan and Max
:17:35. > :17:38.cannot be with us tonight because they have work tomorrow. But we're
:17:39. > :17:41.hoping they will be with us tomorrow evening.
:17:42. > :17:50.Let's now have a look at what else was going on at the Hydro today.
:17:51. > :18:02.Yet another chance for the gold medal for Max Whitlock. There you
:18:03. > :18:08.go. So impressive. What a performance! He is just not
:18:09. > :18:15.faltering. Breathtaking. Another gold for Max Whitlock. What a
:18:16. > :18:24.Commonwealth Games he is having. Up and over. Well! She has made it! I
:18:25. > :18:33.have not seen that in 20 years. What happens here? She goes into first
:18:34. > :18:44.place. Claudia Fragapane. She could get gold. The half turned. She has
:18:45. > :18:58.got gold. Belly black is silver. This is all about Claudia Fragapane.
:18:59. > :19:04.-- kelly black. This is impressive. Into the full twist. Well done! That
:19:05. > :19:11.is a routine that will be hard to beat. For England, Ruby Harold. This
:19:12. > :19:21.will be close. Ruby Harold gets the bronze medal. Rebecca Downey is the
:19:22. > :19:31.Commonwealth champion. There you go. Daniel Purvis. This will be his
:19:32. > :19:36.final. Very nice. He takes the bronze medal. And he continues the
:19:37. > :19:54.success of the gymnasts from the Beth Tweddle is with us. We thought
:19:55. > :19:59.you have suffered enough after last night so we thought we would give
:20:00. > :20:05.you some dignity tonight. Just trying to wipe out from your mind.
:20:06. > :20:11.Anybody in the Hydro today, we both were there, they will have had goose
:20:12. > :20:16.bumps. Not only Dan Keatings winning but the medal ceremony? Dan has had
:20:17. > :20:21.a tough couple of years, he missed out on 2012 but he always said this
:20:22. > :20:27.was his time to shine. He had an incredible routine, he was part of
:20:28. > :20:31.those three main contenders and he just smashed it. As soon as he
:20:32. > :20:36.landed, you could see the elation in the crowd and with his coach and to
:20:37. > :20:42.hear the anthem in the Hydro, that was immense. Max and Lewis did
:20:43. > :20:48.seemed genuinely pleased? It could have gone anyway, they'll put that
:20:49. > :20:52.difficulty at their and tomorrow it would have been a different order.
:20:53. > :20:58.They knew that it was whoever went clean on the day. Those last three
:20:59. > :21:04.seconds, you could see him smiling. They kept saying that. Yes, he had
:21:05. > :21:10.gone out with difficulty, he knew he had to eat Max. As soon as he
:21:11. > :21:16.landed, everybody was during because he had that hard time to get there.
:21:17. > :21:24.His family were in the audience supporting him. Fingers crossed
:21:25. > :21:28.tomorrow. The whole family are here. Max Whitlock, three gold medals and
:21:29. > :21:35.a silver. Amazing. He has come into his own, he was the new boy in
:21:36. > :21:39.Delhi. At London, I do not think he realised what he had achieved and
:21:40. > :21:42.then here, it has been his championships and he has more finals
:21:43. > :21:51.tomorrow. He might have another couple of medals. He has two of them
:21:52. > :21:54.tomorrow? Yes, the high bar also. Amazing scenes for the gymnasts, so
:21:55. > :22:03.impressed by the Home Nations, it says on Twitter. Particularly the
:22:04. > :22:07.pocket rocket. Claudia Fragapane. At the beginning of this year, she was
:22:08. > :22:11.not even sure she would be in the European team. She is now the
:22:12. > :22:15.European finalist Andy Commonwealth all-around champion. Commonwealth
:22:16. > :22:20.gold medallist. And she has the team finals tomorrow. Come back tomorrow
:22:21. > :22:31.for the party! I am flying home! I am gone! Thank you for turning a
:22:32. > :22:35.starring! It will go to another sport that requires some flipping
:22:36. > :22:43.and turning. It has been a brilliant start for England at the diving. The
:22:44. > :22:51.woman were coming off the ten metre platform.
:22:52. > :23:01.-- the women. Oliver Dingley. This is potentially a medal winning dive
:23:02. > :23:07.for him. Better than the preliminaries. We'll let the enough
:23:08. > :23:23.for the medal? Almost gold for England. -- will that we enough. Oh
:23:24. > :23:31.no! Ooi Tze Liang, his last dive. We could be looking at the Commonwealth
:23:32. > :23:38.gold medallist. Jack Laugher needs 87 points. It is not good enough.
:23:39. > :23:49.Definitely silver for Jack. It is gold for Malaysian. And there are
:23:50. > :23:59.two English men on the podium. Sarah Barrow, nice. Really nice, well
:24:00. > :24:10.done, Sarah. 13 years of age, right now. Superb final dive from Tonia
:24:11. > :24:20.Couch. Meaghan Benfeito. This has to be on the money. She has thrown A
:24:21. > :24:29.time. Roseline Filion. That will be good enough for the bronze medal.
:24:30. > :24:37.Maybe that will not be good enough? It is gold for Canada. Bronze for
:24:38. > :24:44.Canada. And, in between those two, Pandelela Rinong Pamg.
:24:45. > :24:56.I think that diving is suspect accurate to watch but I particularly
:24:57. > :25:01.love that, truly! Oh!. Have you had a few cocktails?
:25:02. > :25:03.To Hampden Park now for what was billed as
:25:04. > :25:07.David Rudisha, Blessing Okibare going for the sprint double.
:25:08. > :25:11.It was a bit wet and soggy but there wasn't a spare seat as
:25:12. > :25:21.Scottish fans revved up to roar home Eilidh Child in the 400m hurdles.
:25:22. > :25:44.The men who led the qualifying has dropped that big through. He was
:25:45. > :25:50.second four years ago. Well, that was high. Lifetime best, he takes
:25:51. > :26:03.the lead. The final stages for the long jump final. Currently in the
:26:04. > :26:08.bronze medal position. That was big! Well done, Jasmine. Well done. So,
:26:09. > :26:24.the celebrations go across to Nigeria. Can the Olympic world
:26:25. > :26:28.record-holder get this? Amos has got what it takes! You will take the
:26:29. > :26:33.gold medal! He wins it. David Rudisha is second. He tried his
:26:34. > :26:37.normal tactics but they were not good enough, he was not quick
:26:38. > :26:46.enough. Nijel Amos from Botswana is the champion.
:26:47. > :26:57.White, looking powerful. He has done and gone. Gordon will finish. He is
:26:58. > :27:02.doing it again! Jehue Gordon, into the last hurdle. Cornel Fredericks
:27:03. > :27:05.will win. And coming through, Jeffery Gibson does not quite get
:27:06. > :27:16.there. Cornel Fredericks is the winner. And he takes the applause of
:27:17. > :27:22.Hampden Park. 60 macro is clear in second place. 50 macro stretching
:27:23. > :27:28.away. She will take the gold medal. 60 macro takes the silver. This one
:27:29. > :27:33.is special. And I'm sure it will mean a to her. But you have to give
:27:34. > :27:40.it to Kaliese Spencer, she is a great athlete. Blessing Okagbare.
:27:41. > :27:49.Jodie Williams is trying to get there. Jodie Williams looking for
:27:50. > :27:58.silver. Jodie Williams gets silver and Bianca Williams the bronze
:27:59. > :28:05.medal. This is going to be close. Rasheed Dwyer is there. He might
:28:06. > :28:10.just get this! He gets it. Jamaica Inn one, two, three.
:28:11. > :28:16.Brilliant night at Hampden Park and here in the studio, we have three
:28:17. > :28:23.stars of the track. Remarkable red carpet, our very own record-holder,
:28:24. > :28:26.Michael Johnson. We have the Commonwealth and Olympic 400
:28:27. > :28:29.champion, Kirani James, and the woman who has just done the double,
:28:30. > :29:04.Blessing Okagbare. How exciting! We only just have
:29:05. > :29:08.enough room for everybody. You had an amazing couple of nights,
:29:09. > :29:18.Michael? Fantastic few nights. Angela, of course, with Blessing
:29:19. > :29:25.Okagbare. And the English girls. They are all British, actually.
:29:26. > :29:30.Personal-bests. Fantastic night and with Eilidh Child, that was
:29:31. > :29:35.fantastic, just being in the stadium. And David Rudisha. Just
:29:36. > :29:40.watching him. Being challenged one of the times ever. We must talk to
:29:41. > :29:45.Blessing Okagbare. You have not had long to recover from doing that
:29:46. > :29:52.sprint double? Only the fourth woman ever to do that? You don't really
:29:53. > :30:03.care, you? But you did it! Yes, I did. It felt amazing. Demanding. I'm
:30:04. > :30:06.just really happy. I was able to get through it with no injuries. And
:30:07. > :30:12.there is something to celebrate. What has the reaction been back on?
:30:13. > :30:19.Great! With messages, text messages... Fans and family,
:30:20. > :30:24.Facebook and everywhere. It has been amazing. I don't know what will
:30:25. > :30:28.happen when I get home! But for now, it is a really big deal and I am
:30:29. > :30:40.really happy. Have you got more to come? Yes, relays. I have got the
:30:41. > :30:49.Relay, tomorrow. So straight back to bed! I will celebrate after the
:30:50. > :30:53.meet. Kirani James, even broke a record at the Commonwealth Games
:30:54. > :31:00.that has stood 16 the years -- you broke. It was held by you and Thomas
:31:01. > :31:05.but he says it is OK! -- you and Thomas. Do you have another record
:31:06. > :31:11.in mind? I will take my time with that. It is a very fast time. It
:31:12. > :31:17.seems like I am close would competing, it is far, so I will take
:31:18. > :31:25.my time and try to improve and be consistent. What are your views when
:31:26. > :31:31.you watch Kirani? As a 400-metre runner, I am always had to sizing so
:31:32. > :31:36.I am looking at what I think he could do better and what I would do
:31:37. > :31:42.if I was competing against him. I do not have to compete against him!
:31:43. > :31:46.What would you do? It is easy for me since I do not have to compete
:31:47. > :31:52.against him, I can say I would just beat him! It is easy to say now
:31:53. > :31:59.because we do not have to face each other. I look at him and I see an
:32:00. > :32:04.amazing athlete. To win an Olympic Gold medal at 19, I was 26 before I
:32:05. > :32:11.got an Olympic Gold medal in the 400. So he has got a bright future
:32:12. > :32:16.ahead. What happens with the 400m, it is about learning more and more
:32:17. > :32:22.about the event and how you compete in that event. That is what he is
:32:23. > :32:31.doing now, continuing to learn about himself and how to compete. You were
:32:32. > :32:36.31 when you set the world record. And Kirani is 21. It is in your
:32:37. > :32:42.favour! I have ten years to work with! Ten years! We are very excited
:32:43. > :32:48.because another person coming from the track has arrived. From
:32:49. > :32:57.Scotland, it was silver-medallist in the 400-metre hurdles, Eilidh Child!
:32:58. > :33:17.-- your silver-medallist. That is not a bad line-up. I am
:33:18. > :33:31.quite happy. Take photos, if you could! We offer has to! Well done,
:33:32. > :33:35.what an amazing reception. -- we are faster. You kept bumping into people
:33:36. > :33:41.you knew. It was lovely because in every corner, there was a member of
:33:42. > :33:47.my family. It was so lovely to have them, the first time they saw me do
:33:48. > :33:52.a shortage of honour. How have you dealt with the build-up? If you go
:33:53. > :33:57.out and about in Glasgow, people are talking about Dan Keatings, and you
:33:58. > :34:03.at Hampden Park tonight. Have you shut it out? I have thought of it as
:34:04. > :34:08.another race. The same thing I always do, I have tried to block a
:34:09. > :34:15.lot of it out and to focus on its being what I do all the time. -- on
:34:16. > :34:21.it being. I took a deep breath and I tried to remember that this is what
:34:22. > :34:28.I always do. Could you enjoy the race in progress? It looks painful.
:34:29. > :34:33.It is a bit of a blur. I crossed the finish line and it was relief. I
:34:34. > :34:37.cannot remember the race, I do not know if it was technically that
:34:38. > :34:43.good. My coach said it was all right. All right? He said
:34:44. > :34:49.technically it was good. It was a bit of a love. I knew I was second
:34:50. > :34:55.over that last hurdle and it was to get to the finish line as quickly as
:34:56. > :34:59.possible. Kirani, do you look at the Scottish athletes competing and have
:35:00. > :35:05.some jealousy they get to compete in front of a home crowd? It is an
:35:06. > :35:09.advantage. The Scottish crowd has been cheering for everybody. They
:35:10. > :35:15.are so knowledgeable about the sport. They know each athlete. Who
:35:16. > :35:22.is good. They were cheering for everybody. It shows how educated
:35:23. > :35:25.Scotland is about sport and how excited they are to see great
:35:26. > :35:39.athletes competing. You have got them onside! A big
:35:40. > :35:44.company and from an Olympic and Commonwealth champion. They can also
:35:45. > :35:47.deal with the weather and the stadium is great because for the
:35:48. > :35:51.most part, the crowd are covered and protected from the rain, but as a
:35:52. > :35:59.weed is committed J find it difficult, Blessing? -- what is
:36:00. > :36:08.athletes, did you find it difficult. It was wet. But I just went for it.
:36:09. > :36:11.I was not worried about the weather because if you want your medal, you
:36:12. > :36:20.have two run like every other person. Can I ask one thing, once
:36:21. > :36:27.you've finished, after the lap of honour, I was besieged by hearts
:36:28. > :36:33.fans. -- once you've finished. Did you do a celebration to certain
:36:34. > :36:40.members of the crowd? People asked me to do it but I hope to the
:36:41. > :36:44.cameras would not catch me. A lot of people asked me to do it if I
:36:45. > :36:48.crossed the finish line. That was the last thing on my head but I did
:36:49. > :36:54.go round a couple of times and met fans. That is a famous victory. It
:36:55. > :37:02.was captured. You have not been on Twitter, but it is all over with you
:37:03. > :37:06.doing that. That was the score when hearts beat Hibs in the Scottish Cup
:37:07. > :37:09.Final. So one half of Edinburgh is very happy with you this evening.
:37:10. > :37:16.The whole of Scotland is hot new with you. -- happy. I am so relieved
:37:17. > :37:19.to have run well and is to give something back because the support
:37:20. > :37:24.has been phenomenal and it was nice to get on the podium with the
:37:25. > :37:30.Scotland flag. I like your nails, by the way. My friend Elaine did them.
:37:31. > :37:48.Let's give them a round of applause. A massive thank you to them, Kirani,
:37:49. > :37:57.Blessing, Eilidh Child. Back to Hampden Park now 4-wheel power! --
:37:58. > :38:02.for some wheel power. Has she got the pace at the end? It
:38:03. > :38:04.is going to be a tight finish and the Australian might do it. Gold for
:38:05. > :38:14.Australia. An excellent bronze for Jones.
:38:15. > :38:24.That is a bronze medal for Jade Jones, of England.
:38:25. > :38:30.He heard the roar of the Olympic Stadium and now they are roaring for
:38:31. > :38:35.him at Hampden Park, and Dave Weir is coming home to a handsome victory
:38:36. > :38:40.in the 1,500 metres. He is Commonwealth champion, and what a
:38:41. > :38:45.victory. Six Gold medals at Paralympics, six at the world
:38:46. > :38:46.champions, six times a winner of the marathon and now a Commonwealth
:38:47. > :38:52.Games champion. Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson has
:38:53. > :38:54.joined us, along with the athlete she coaches, Bronze medallist
:38:55. > :39:00.in the Para 1500m, Jade Jones. And the new Commonwealth champion,
:39:01. > :39:29.Dave Weir! Well done! That is a medal you are
:39:30. > :39:40.proud to have isn't it? Very proud. Can I say a big happy birthday day
:39:41. > :39:44.to my three-year-old son tomorrow? You are going straight back. I am
:39:45. > :39:54.leaving at four o'clock in the morning. He was still a baby at the
:39:55. > :39:57.Paralympics. He sat on my lap in the last race in the marathon and now he
:39:58. > :40:02.is watching on television and he cannot wait for me to come home.
:40:03. > :40:09.Jade, are you going to pay tribute to your coach? Of course! She should
:40:10. > :40:16.pay tribute to you! It was an amazing race and it is so hard to do
:40:17. > :40:22.objective commentary. But willing her on. Amazing tonight. I should
:40:23. > :40:29.point out she has a faster is biased I had at the peak of my career, so
:40:30. > :40:33.no pressure! -- a faster personal best. This was your first experience
:40:34. > :40:41.of senior international competition and you get a medal. It was
:40:42. > :40:45.unexpected, that was the aim. There was no pressure. I had a clear head
:40:46. > :40:52.going into it. The weather did not help much. How difficult is it? It
:40:53. > :40:59.is difficult, it affects wheelchair racing because you slip a lot. But
:41:00. > :41:05.it rains for everyone. You said in commentary that it changes how you
:41:06. > :41:09.start. Yes, people have to make decisions and gloves, rubber, how
:41:10. > :41:17.much glue, sometimes you put too much on. It affects so much. You can
:41:18. > :41:22.have different people performing than you might expect. You are at
:41:23. > :41:27.the beginning of your career. Dave, you are towards the end of it and it
:41:28. > :41:34.could have ended before this week because you were considering
:41:35. > :41:38.retiring. After 2012, I had a big thing of what I needed to do and
:41:39. > :41:44.that is the reason I carried on, to get that round my neck. I do not
:41:45. > :41:49.feel I am getting slower so when my speed starts to drop, I will think
:41:50. > :41:57.of retiring. There is still a good three or four years in me. So 30,
:41:58. > :42:06.definitely? -- so reopen, definitely? -- 30. Why did you think
:42:07. > :42:10.after 2012? Because London was special. What I
:42:11. > :42:16.did was unbelievable, I did not expect four Gold medals even though
:42:17. > :42:20.I trained for every event. I wanted one in my home Games and to get
:42:21. > :42:27.four, that is why I changed my mind because I got my races with massive
:42:28. > :42:31.margins. Previously, I was winning or losing by millimetres. I thought,
:42:32. > :42:37.this is it, they have to give it 100%. That is what made me think
:42:38. > :42:43.after. I had a chat with Jenny, Jenny Archer. And I started the
:42:44. > :42:50.academy as well so I could not just retire. I had to keep promoting the
:42:51. > :42:53.sport and my Academy, to get the youngsters coming through. For the
:42:54. > :42:58.European Championships, we have six athletes from the Academy
:42:59. > :43:03.representing rate written and four for the juniors next week, so they
:43:04. > :43:11.did an amazing job in two years -- Great Britain. That keeps me going.
:43:12. > :43:16.There is no better way to inspire people than by being the best, and
:43:17. > :43:19.you are and you are a worthy champion and I am delighted you did
:43:20. > :43:25.not retire. You said, I will keep going and I will be in Brazil. In Q4
:43:26. > :43:27.coming into night and congratulations to David and Jade!
:43:28. > :43:42.-- thank you for coming in tonight. Let's talk to some champions. I am
:43:43. > :43:45.delighted to say we have a heptathlete Commonwealth Gold
:43:46. > :43:53.medallist here and her husband, an Olympic decathlon champion. Give a
:43:54. > :44:02.big round of applause to Ashton Eaton and Breanne Theisen-Eaton.
:44:03. > :44:11.Are you something a cocktail? That is definitely not my drink! I will
:44:12. > :44:17.look after that cocktail. Congratulations. Thank you. How did
:44:18. > :44:22.you find competing in Glasgow? I loved it, the crowd was great,
:44:23. > :44:27.tonnes of people and the stadium was awesome! And the coach? I am the
:44:28. > :44:32.emotional support coach. She came away smiling and I saw a lot of hard
:44:33. > :44:39.work and to fruition so I am very excited. Give us an insight into
:44:40. > :44:45.hard work and how often you train. Every part of our life is training,
:44:46. > :44:52.at the track, recovery, eating, sleeping. We do train a lot, five,
:44:53. > :44:57.six days a week, a couple of sessions each day. Probably 30 hours
:44:58. > :45:01.a week? That is a fair assessment but I do think a lot of the time
:45:02. > :45:07.when we are not on the track, we say rest is training. And a lot of
:45:08. > :45:12.people do not see 90% of the stuff, just 10% competition and that
:45:13. > :45:17.mountain of effort is put elsewhere away from the television. A lot goes
:45:18. > :45:31.into it but we like that other 10% we get to see here.
:45:32. > :45:36.races at home! We are competitive. We compete with pointless stuff,
:45:37. > :45:41.like who can make the best coffee in the morning. Just little things,
:45:42. > :45:48.video games. One morning we were brushing our teeth and Ashton said,
:45:49. > :45:52.I beat you! That is not really a good thing to beat me on! Are you
:45:53. > :46:00.thinking of something else to beat him with? Some new competition? I
:46:01. > :46:06.don't know. We were bored. I thought, what will be fun?
:46:07. > :46:14.Computing. Especially being athletes, we like competition. --
:46:15. > :46:20.competing. We are both resting. We want to take a big break this year
:46:21. > :46:25.because 2015-16 will be very long years so we are taking in a few
:46:26. > :46:33.months to rest. Will you go in the capital on or 400 hurdles in real?
:46:34. > :46:48.-- Rio de Janeiro. Thank you both very much. Let's go to the
:46:49. > :47:02.weightlifting because the big boys are in time tonight.
:47:03. > :47:15.Representing Wales... Look at the size of this man! That is unique.
:47:16. > :47:23.Representing Canada. Absolutely no question about that. Damon Kelly,
:47:24. > :47:36.you do not argue with this man. What a perfect day for Damon Kelly. The
:47:37. > :47:59.flag error for Nauru at the opening ceremony. No hesitation. -- bearer.
:48:00. > :48:11.All he can do is watch that weight. Gutsy lift. He is so confident. If
:48:12. > :48:19.he lifts this, he is the champion. And Canada have regained the title.
:48:20. > :48:27.When I watch that, I think they must really hurt the next morning! Coming
:48:28. > :48:29.over to the map, which is filling up with places that look like Ollie.
:48:30. > :48:33.Ollie is reaching the latter stage of his challenge to find someone to
:48:34. > :48:37.talk to from all 71 Commonwealth nations and territories.
:48:38. > :48:44.As of now, there are six remaining. I had to make this morning,
:48:45. > :48:51.including Rwanda at the cycling time trial. The rise of cycling there is
:48:52. > :48:55.a real story. As is cycling in this part of the world. And the
:48:56. > :49:06.Commonwealth Games has been a chance to see how widespread that has been.
:49:07. > :49:14.Hello, Guernsey. I am Karina. Joe Watts. I will be delicate about
:49:15. > :49:24.this. Everyone here is over a certain age? Over 40? OK... Yes?
:49:25. > :49:29.That was not the smoothest ride, I had a technical problem when my
:49:30. > :49:38.handlebars came loose. The nerves were just incredible. I had never
:49:39. > :49:47.done anything on this scale before. She works as a hypnotherapist and
:49:48. > :49:56.run through own company. You will be back in four years? The Gold Coast?
:49:57. > :50:01.With the Zimmer frame race! We can add Guernsey. The first time they
:50:02. > :50:06.have had a full road cycling team at the Commonwealth Games. Where else
:50:07. > :50:18.did you go? Weightlifting this afternoon. Scott Wong from
:50:19. > :50:24.Singapore. He took us backstage! He did not really feature with the
:50:25. > :50:32.medals but he is from Singapore. He did not feature but another man is
:50:33. > :50:37.from Nauru. The defending Commonwealth champion. He lost his
:50:38. > :50:39.title. He was furious but he still stopped for a chat.
:50:40. > :50:42.Commonwealth champion. He lost his title. He was furious but he And he
:50:43. > :50:48.said that in weightlifting, in Nauru, he had to win at all costs
:50:49. > :50:57.and for a 26 stone man, he was furious. Tomorrow? Tuvalu have been
:50:58. > :51:03.playing hard to get, which is getting annoying. I will stick into
:51:04. > :51:07.the village and try to get to them. And the British Virgin Islands and
:51:08. > :51:13.also New Zealand or on the list. Over here and here. If you want to
:51:14. > :51:18.catch up with all of the stories, go to the website and online and
:51:19. > :51:22.Twitter. Let us get some of the other headlines from today.
:51:23. > :51:25.England's place in the last four of the men's hockey was confirmed
:51:26. > :51:29.They will play hot favourites Australia on Saturday for a place
:51:30. > :51:36.New Zealand will meet India in the other semi.
:51:37. > :51:38.In badminton, Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour is through
:51:39. > :51:41.to the quarter-finals of the women's singles.
:51:42. > :51:43.The second seed took just 22 minutes to see off Yeldy Louison
:51:44. > :51:50.England will have three couples in the semi-finals of the mixed
:51:51. > :51:53.doubles table tennis after Paul and Joanna Drinkhall, Kelly Sibley
:51:54. > :52:05.and Danny Reed, and Tin-Tin Ho and Liam Pitchford all won today.
:52:06. > :52:08.Sophie Tolchard, Ellen Falkner and Sian Honnor took
:52:09. > :52:11.gold for England in the women's triples over at Kelvingrove.
:52:12. > :52:13.They overwhelmed Australia 22-4 to earn England's first
:52:14. > :52:24.South Africa beat Wales in the bronze medal match.
:52:25. > :52:26.England beat Scotland in the men's triples para bowls earlier
:52:27. > :52:38.Just take a look at this unbelievable skill.
:52:39. > :52:51.This is for the win. He had to make sure one of the other balls went
:52:52. > :52:54.into the ditch, which it did. And the
:52:55. > :53:06.into the ditch, which it did. And here. Give them a massive round of
:53:07. > :53:16.applause. Helen, Sophie, Sian, you smashed Austria. It is called a...
:53:17. > :53:21.Mercy? It was certainly a demonstration of good bowling
:53:22. > :53:31.performance. Into the ground and they did ask for mercy. What were
:53:32. > :53:35.conditions I? We have seen some horrific weather at Kelvingrove. It
:53:36. > :53:40.was not too bad. Very dry for most of the game. The rain only started
:53:41. > :53:46.towards the last end. We got off quite sharpish. Does that change how
:53:47. > :53:51.you must bowl? Just the conditions. And the pace of the green. Luckily,
:53:52. > :53:56.we missed that and we dealt really well with the conditions. We had a
:53:57. > :54:03.lot of tweets last night. A lot of people think that the Commonwealth
:54:04. > :54:07.has changed the image of bowling? I think young people have always
:54:08. > :54:11.played bowls but it is always in the background and we don't get the best
:54:12. > :54:15.press, people think it is for older people so hopefully we are changing
:54:16. > :54:20.that and it is really a game for everybody, not just young or old
:54:21. > :54:23.people. It is just amazing and anybody can play it. It is so
:54:24. > :54:33.inclusive. You have got that message across.
:54:34. > :54:36.APPLAUSE. I am sitting down with the England team who won the bronze
:54:37. > :54:43.medal. Paul, you deliver that final bowl. Amazing skills. Well done.
:54:44. > :54:48.Another viewer is amazed, some people are out of this world with
:54:49. > :54:54.talent. You may take that credit. Yes, it was the last three ends, we
:54:55. > :54:59.were four shots down. And we managed to bowl it together. When it came to
:55:00. > :55:04.that tie-break, having to bowl that bowl, remember that and I remember
:55:05. > :55:12.much afterwards! Just seeing that go into the ditch and ending up, we
:55:13. > :55:18.managed to win the game. I didn't know if I could have even bowled my
:55:19. > :55:24.last one because I was certainly very much there at that point. Did
:55:25. > :55:33.you tell him what to do? It was a joint decision. And he completed her
:55:34. > :55:39.30. How did you take this up? I took up pulling after competing in other
:55:40. > :55:45.sports for many years. Because a person with a similar disability did
:55:46. > :55:49.bowls with his feet. That is how. And you are the reason we're getting
:55:50. > :55:53.such an incredible response. It was remarkable to watch. Brilliant
:55:54. > :56:06.stuff. We will have some grappling night. Wrestling...
:56:07. > :56:19.The English woman was just too tricky in the end. The first gold
:56:20. > :56:27.medal of the night. It goes to Kamari. Onto his back. That is it.
:56:28. > :56:40.It is over. And he wins for Scotland. He pushes out for the
:56:41. > :56:51.point. It is all over. India get another gold medal. He slams into
:56:52. > :56:59.the mat. My goodness! The bronze medal goes to the Nigerian. Two
