:01:02. > :01:27.Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome your hosts for tonight, Clare

:01:28. > :01:36.Balding and Mark Chapman! Wow! Tonight At The Games, and we

:01:37. > :01:41.have got loads for you. Athletics, gymnastics, and of course, we have

:01:42. > :01:45.waited a long time to get the gymnasts on this show. They will be

:01:46. > :01:52.here tonight. Table tennis, boxing, bowls, and others, including diving.

:01:53. > :01:56.But the guests are what make this show. I will read you a tweet which

:01:57. > :02:02.suggests someone who might be coming on. This was my everything, I love

:02:03. > :02:16.you all, never give up, always be grateful - that is what Lynsey Sharp

:02:17. > :02:25.said after she won the silver medal. We will be speaking to her. She is

:02:26. > :02:32.just one of many guests we have got on the show. We want you to get in

:02:33. > :02:38.touch as well. You can do so on social media. Reverse your questions

:02:39. > :02:49.for the guests. We know that the reason everybody is packed in here

:02:50. > :03:09.is not for us, it may not even be for our Commonwealth champions, it

:03:10. > :03:22.is really for the Fans Of The Federation! And we have had some

:03:23. > :03:35.tweets, this one concerns you, Mark. Also, the young Scot who plays

:03:36. > :03:41.trumpet. Stephen says, what is Mark Chapman doing with the band? Is he

:03:42. > :04:05.playing trumpet, or is it his twin?! The good thing for Scott is

:04:06. > :04:42.that everybody thinks you are a younger version of

:04:43. > :04:54.her focus? That was great. Ellie Black, on the beam. It is the

:04:55. > :04:54.biggest mound, that was a very well performed routine.

:04:55. > :04:57.Black, on the beam. It is the biggest mound, She is the

:04:58. > :05:14.Commonwealth champion on the beam. Georgina Hockenhull takes bronze!

:05:15. > :05:24.Now, Wilson, the Yorkshireman. He is ready to go. What can Dan Purvis do

:05:25. > :05:49.here? What a super performance! It is so good! Dan Purvis, gold medal.

:05:50. > :05:56.Ellie Black to take the bronze medal. If there was ever a piece of

:05:57. > :06:01.apparatus for Claudia Fragapane to impress on, it is this. It is a

:06:02. > :06:12.golden floor routine for a golden girl! It is Nile Wilson for England.

:06:13. > :06:25.Come on, boy. What a performance! Kristian Thomas for England. Wow,

:06:26. > :06:33.this is going to be really close. The question now is, will they

:06:34. > :06:45.separate the two top scores? If it is done on execution, this man could

:06:46. > :06:54.win it. Double double! And he takes bronze. Silver has gone to Kristian

:06:55. > :07:00.Thomas from England. Nile Wilson takes the gold medal. He was born to

:07:01. > :07:03.this. It has been a remarkable few days,

:07:04. > :07:05.and this could very well be a special red carpet performance, as

:07:06. > :07:14.the gymnasts come down here. Let's welcome all of the gold

:07:15. > :07:41.medallists! APPLAUSE AND

:07:42. > :07:49.What a fantastic line-up. Claudia, let's start with you,

:07:50. > :07:54.because you are the youngest. Four gold medals around your neck - what

:07:55. > :07:55.were you hoping for coming into the Games?

:07:56. > :07:59.gold medals around your neck - what were you hoping for coming I was

:08:00. > :08:04.hoping for gold as a team. And then I was hoping to get into the top

:08:05. > :08:09.three in the individual. Coming out with four gold medals, it is

:08:10. > :08:17.amazing. You said how amazing her stage presence was. Yes, you could

:08:18. > :08:22.feel the whole arena coming alive when you came on the floor. Is that

:08:23. > :08:29.your favourite apparatus? Yes, because I am quite bubbly person. So

:08:30. > :08:36.I get to express my music and my dance. You have a lot of support

:08:37. > :08:41.here, including your family, but your extended family was also

:08:42. > :08:51.watching at home. They were getting very, very encouraging, I suppose!

:08:52. > :09:00.And there they are! Do you know who they all were?! Yes! So, you are not

:09:01. > :09:03.going to tell us! Moving onto Dan Keatings, what a fantastic week for

:09:04. > :09:11.you as well. And to finish it off the way you did, it was just

:09:12. > :09:14.perfect. Yes, one of the main targets coming in was to try and get

:09:15. > :09:19.the team on the podium, and Scotland has never done that on the

:09:20. > :09:23.gymnastics side. We did that, getting the silver, just behind

:09:24. > :09:27.England, which was an amazing result for us. Individually, I wanted to

:09:28. > :09:32.come in the top five all round. I have the bonus of coming second,

:09:33. > :09:37.just behind Max, and becoming the champion on the pommel horse, which

:09:38. > :09:41.was unbelievable. You knew you had nailed it on the pommel horse. The

:09:42. > :09:45.reason I ask is because, even in the arena yesterday, when we were

:09:46. > :09:53.watching the slow Motson pictures, that is a smile, not a grimace,

:09:54. > :09:57.isn't it? Yes, I was smiling. As soon as I had got up into the

:09:58. > :10:01.handstand and I was in balance, I knew I had done it as well as I

:10:02. > :10:07.could. I knew I would be in with a shot of the title. It was down to

:10:08. > :10:13.Lewis and Max to try and beat that. You nearly gave it all up, didn't

:10:14. > :10:18.you, who talked you back into it? My coach, Paul Hall. In 2012, I had

:10:19. > :10:20.some bad injuries to my ankles, just before the Olympics, and I was not

:10:21. > :10:25.selected just at that point I was quite disheartened and disappointed.

:10:26. > :10:31.It was something I had worked for my whole life. Not to be selected, it

:10:32. > :10:35.was one of the lowest points of my career, and I really did think about

:10:36. > :10:42.giving up. But Paul Hall got me into the gym and really taught me to give

:10:43. > :10:46.it one last shot. I had missed out on the Olympics, which had been my

:10:47. > :10:51.long-time dream, and I/O a lot to him for doing that. You said, Dan,

:10:52. > :10:57.when we spoke earlier, after you had won, that you had relaxed as the

:10:58. > :11:02.week had gone on. Actually, at the start of the week, because of the

:11:03. > :11:07.atmosphere, it was quite nerve wracking? Yes, I think everybody

:11:08. > :11:11.felt like that walking out. The atmosphere was incredible. There was

:11:12. > :11:16.a lot of weight on our shoulders, especially for the team final, was

:11:17. > :11:19.the main aim. As the week has gone on, it has got more enjoyable.

:11:20. > :11:26.Watching Dan get the gold yesterday, it takes the pressure off. Did that

:11:27. > :11:30.help? Yes, the first gold for Scotland at this Commonwealth Games.

:11:31. > :11:35.I could go out and just concentrate on my performance. We felt very

:11:36. > :11:44.close to you here at BBC Scotland. You were in the lift with us every

:11:45. > :11:58.day! I am pretty certain that is you, isn't it? Max, moving on to you

:11:59. > :12:02.- we have heard you talk about your achievements this week, and I would

:12:03. > :12:05.love to know what you feel about what is next. The World

:12:06. > :12:08.Championships are coming up in China. How close are you to the top

:12:09. > :12:14.guys? I do not know, really. I like to think of it my target was to come

:12:15. > :12:19.here and try to get over the 19 marks, and I have done twice. The

:12:20. > :12:26.top guys are scoring more than 90, and there is one guy, he is my

:12:27. > :12:35.absolute idol, and he is touching 92, 93. So, there is a big gap, but

:12:36. > :12:40.I am hoping to keep pushing it. Virtually every night we have heard

:12:41. > :12:46.about the camaraderie, which is astonishing. Yes, it is really good.

:12:47. > :12:48.We are competing for England, Scotland and Wales, but we have

:12:49. > :12:57.trained together. There are fireworks going off outside, I think

:12:58. > :13:00.they are for you guys, actually. We trained five or six weeks before

:13:01. > :13:05.this competition, in the same gym. We know how we train, we know how

:13:06. > :13:08.each other works. We come in here and not feeling like we are

:13:09. > :13:14.competing against each other, but as one team, which is what it felt

:13:15. > :13:18.like. Well done on concentrating on the answer, with those fireworks

:13:19. > :13:24.outside! I, that is your first senior major championships? That's

:13:25. > :13:34.right. And you have come away with how many around your neck? Four

:13:35. > :13:39.medals. Is it a piece of cake?! Was it everything you thought it was

:13:40. > :13:44.going to be? And more. Coming into this, I would not even have dreamt I

:13:45. > :13:49.would be stood here with four medals around my neck. I was just happy to

:13:50. > :13:55.get the opportunity to do it, to be selected, being 18 years old. And

:13:56. > :13:59.then to come here and to do as well as I have done, I could not be more

:14:00. > :14:11.happy. We can speak to some family members now. Excuse me, dad, I just

:14:12. > :14:14.need to speak to mum. One of the enduring images of the day was when

:14:15. > :14:24.Claudia was on the beam, and you could not watch, could you?

:14:25. > :14:29.I just wanted her to stick. That was everything. It was Is that amazing.

:14:30. > :14:34.The hardest thing from a parent's... Go onment The beam is quite a

:14:35. > :14:37.difficult and very dangerous piece of equipment. It's just the fear

:14:38. > :14:43.that goes through me every time I see her on there. For her to have

:14:44. > :14:46.completed that routine, without coming off, I was just so relieved.

:14:47. > :14:54.It was great. It was a great moment. Is that the hardest thing, have we

:14:55. > :14:57.got, dad Whitlock? Yes. Is the the hardest thing as a parent knowing

:14:58. > :15:00.that your children could get hurt and very probably at some point in

:15:01. > :15:05.their career will get hurt in this sport? Yes, it is very hard for us.

:15:06. > :15:12.It's something that we don't want to see. Every time they run and jump,

:15:13. > :15:17.it does go through our minds. Daniel had quite a nasty fall today off the

:15:18. > :15:21.horizontal bar. Yeah, he's had quite a few injuries throughout his

:15:22. > :15:25.career. Your heart is in your mouth the whole time? Time he goes into

:15:26. > :15:29.competition, it seriously is. All we pray for is that he comes out of

:15:30. > :15:34.each competition fit and I think, all these parents will agree the

:15:35. > :15:38.same, they train so hard to get to where they are and just to come out

:15:39. > :15:44.fit, that's all we want. Fortunately, they are and they're

:15:45. > :15:51.all medallists. We have so many medal-winning gymnasts, we couldn't

:15:52. > :15:55.fit them all on the sofa. The rest of Scotland's silver medal team are

:15:56. > :16:03.here and Wales who won bronze and here is Becky Downie, two round your

:16:04. > :16:07.neck. Congratulations. What was the hardest thing for you? It's just an

:16:08. > :16:10.amazing experience overall. Just the individual achievements and the

:16:11. > :16:14.whole team's achievements, I don't think anyone could have asked for It

:16:15. > :16:17.was more. Superb all round. For Louis Smith, a bonus that you could

:16:18. > :16:22.be here, you had given up gymnastics. Are you thinking - I'm

:16:23. > :16:28.so glad I came back? I am. I've put salsa on the side for now. Taken up

:16:29. > :16:33.gymnastics fulltime again. Very happy to be Who's the back. Team

:16:34. > :16:38.leader? Who do you turn to for advice? I wouldn't say there was a

:16:39. > :16:41.team leader amongst the girls at the moment. We just all really gel as a

:16:42. > :16:44.big group and we're like a family. We just get on so well. I think

:16:45. > :16:48.that's one of the reasons why we've achieved so much here. There's a lot

:16:49. > :16:53.of love between all of you, doesn't matter which nation you've come

:16:54. > :16:56.from. You have done superbly well. Thank you to the home nations

:16:57. > :16:58.gymnasts for being the most successful ever at a Commonwealth

:16:59. > :17:03.Games. APPLAUSE

:17:04. > :17:17.In their honour, I'm hoping that we have a cocktail with a twist. What

:17:18. > :17:23.is the cocktail today? I have Martini with vodka pomegranate juice

:17:24. > :17:28.and I'm doing... Erm...... He might do a soft one as well. Some of them

:17:29. > :17:32.are very young. They're all soft drinks here. We are moving on to

:17:33. > :17:36.hockey. There was the most sensational match today. I won't

:17:37. > :17:41.give anything away just yet. Katherine Grainger went along to

:17:42. > :17:48.support England versus New Zealand. If you win you go to the gold/silver

:17:49. > :17:53.match or be playing off for bronze. We've all made it to day nine of the

:17:54. > :17:57.Commonwealth Games. For the team sports, it's the business end of the

:17:58. > :18:01.competition. We're here for the semifinals of women yes, sir hockey.

:18:02. > :18:06.England are the last -- women's hockey. England are the last

:18:07. > :18:10.remaining home nation. Those medals are tantalisingly near and yet,

:18:11. > :18:13.still so far. England and New Zealand went into the match knowing

:18:14. > :18:18.they would face tournament favourites Australia in the final,

:18:19. > :18:20.if victorious. After the hockey roos demolished South Africa 7-1 earlier

:18:21. > :18:44.in the day. New Zealand has to worry about that.

:18:45. > :18:48.It's in. England 1, New Zealand 0. Owsley has scored for England.

:18:49. > :18:52.Thanchts was a nervous start -- That was a nervous start for both sides.

:18:53. > :18:55.There's a sense that every person here knows just what's at stake.

:18:56. > :18:58.England drew first blood. It's settled down and they look the

:18:59. > :19:23.stronger side at the moment. It's a goal. That's hope for New

:19:24. > :19:27.Zealand. For a second half there, there wasn't too much action for

:19:28. > :19:31.either side. The last few minutes were dramatic and a little bit

:19:32. > :19:35.exhausting. That meant we were headed to a penalty shootout. Each

:19:36. > :20:54.team have five attempts. Maddie Hinch is the hero of the

:20:55. > :20:56.hour. I do a lot of home work before and look at the players

:20:57. > :21:01.individually, I felt confident and I'm glad it worked today. Due enjoy

:21:02. > :21:04.it? Yeah, I loved it. The magical thing about this team is we have a

:21:05. > :21:09.sense of belief. We have the belief that we train so hard, we know where

:21:10. > :21:12.we want to go b to be. I love playing against Australia. It's who

:21:13. > :21:16.can capitalise on nip errors that are made. Have you to be brave and

:21:17. > :21:22.face the pressure and take it on. I love that. I can't wait.

:21:23. > :21:29.Well, Twitter went berserk after that. I'm not surprised. What a

:21:30. > :21:34.penalty future. Goalkeeper comes out and wrestles them to the ground.

:21:35. > :21:38.Clatters them. Gary Lineker one of many to tweet, "Good heavens,

:21:39. > :21:47.England have won a penalty shootout." Matthew Pinsent, "Maddie

:21:48. > :21:55.Hinch, yes, A game. Nice one." Goldie says, "Bet that feels good."

:21:56. > :22:00.Anna Mays, said great day for women's sport. England's hockey

:22:01. > :22:03.ladies into Gold Medal match. England rugby women winning the

:22:04. > :22:07.first game of the World Cup. Let's go to Hampden then. Much nicer

:22:08. > :22:11.weather there today for athletes and spectators, which was a good thing,

:22:12. > :22:22.because some of the toughest events were in evidence.

:22:23. > :22:38.Pooley, can she go clear? Oh, yes she can! Look at the face of I bell

:22:39. > :22:44.pooly. -- Isobel Pooley. Gold for Australia, Silver Medal for England.

:22:45. > :22:52.The bar has been lowered. A kind of penalty shootout. The first man that

:22:53. > :22:58.goes clear wins. Luke Cutts first attempt. That's close, but it's a

:22:59. > :23:03.fail. Steve Lewis for gold. He's clear! The man who took silver

:23:04. > :23:13.four years ago now has the full set to add to his bronze in 2006.

:23:14. > :23:24.Jade Lally just shy of 60 metres is her best so far.

:23:25. > :23:27.60. 48. Danny Samuels then, fancied to dominate, but she's only just

:23:28. > :23:33.ahead of the English thrower, maybe feeling the pressure a bit. Or maybe

:23:34. > :23:34.not. Way out in front. Jade Lally. Here she is receiving her bronze

:23:35. > :23:50.medal. Ndiku is clear and galloping towards

:23:51. > :23:52.gold in the 3,000 m steeplechase. He celebrates. One, two and three to

:23:53. > :24:04.Kenya. Look at Kipsiro, Levins kicks again.

:24:05. > :24:09.Bett is still there. Can he last it out? Bett might get there. Kipsiro

:24:10. > :24:14.on the inside. Who wins it? Kipsiro! What a finish that was. What a race

:24:15. > :24:23.it was. Another Gold Medal for Kipsiro. Here comes Lynsey Sharp of

:24:24. > :24:27.Scotland, finds the room on the outside. The world champion kicks

:24:28. > :24:33.away. She's going to be the Commonwealth champion. Who will come

:24:34. > :24:37.second? Nanyondo trying to hand on. Lynsey Sharp might get there. Silver

:24:38. > :24:41.for Scotland! This was a brave, brave run from Lynsey Sharp. An

:24:42. > :24:45.impressive performance by the world champion to become the Commonwealth

:24:46. > :24:55.champion, but a real emotional evening here for Lynsey Sharp. Ten

:24:56. > :25:01.barriers between one of these women and Commonwealth gold.

:25:02. > :25:04.Cleanly went, Pearson out first. Pearson from Whyte and Porter.

:25:05. > :25:08.Porter is coming now. It's porter trying to get back. It's going to be

:25:09. > :25:15.so close again. Sally Pearson for gold once again! Sally Pearson, who

:25:16. > :25:25.can stop her? Gold from the woman in groan and gold. Also tonight,

:25:26. > :25:31.Hampden and the Commonwealth Games got the first glimpse of Usain Bolt.

:25:32. > :25:37.A special night for that Clydesider. He anchored home the Jamaican 4x100

:25:38. > :25:45.relay team. They won their heat comfortably. He's a cool dude. The

:25:46. > :25:50.audience, as I'm sure many of you did at home, started spontaneously

:25:51. > :25:55.clapping as they saw the closing stages of the 800m and the effort of

:25:56. > :25:58.the woman we welcome to our sofa now. Ladies and gentleman, Lynsey

:25:59. > :26:19.Sharp is here! CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:26:20. > :26:26.We've had so many requests to give you a hug, but I'd like Clyde to

:26:27. > :26:30.give you a hug. Because that was the most super human effort from you and

:26:31. > :26:37.amazingly emotional interview afterwards, in it you revealed how

:26:38. > :26:40.much had happened last night. Yeah. After my race last night, I didn't

:26:41. > :26:45.feel great in the race. Everyone kept saying to me afterwards, are

:26:46. > :26:48.you OK? Yeah, I'm fine. Then I tried to eat something after. I couldn't

:26:49. > :26:50.eat anything. Got back to the village pretty late.

:26:51. > :26:53.to eat something after. I couldn't eat anything. Got back to the Then

:26:54. > :26:57.yeah, I was sick all night. I eventually got to the clinic in the

:26:58. > :27:04.village and was there till 5. 30am this morning. I got back to my bed

:27:05. > :27:12.at 5. 30am, after being on a drip. Got like three or four hours' sleep.

:27:13. > :27:18.All I've eaten today is porridge and scrambled egg. I'm starving. What

:27:19. > :27:26.would you like? I said chicken nuggets. But I don't know... We'll

:27:27. > :27:30.try to get you some. Despite everything that happened to you, you

:27:31. > :27:37.just watched your finish there. It didn't seem to stop your effort in

:27:38. > :27:42.the last 100 metres. You ran with your eyes Yeah that's shut. Become a

:27:43. > :27:47.bit a habit. Other girls racing look so relaxed. I pull the ugliest

:27:48. > :27:51.races. But I gave everything in that last hundred. Tonight meant so much

:27:52. > :27:55.to me. To have people like my mum and sister and my dad there and to

:27:56. > :28:04.be able to pick people out on my lap of honour, people I've grown up

:28:05. > :28:08.with, it was amazing. You said in your interview with Phil that

:28:09. > :28:12.athletics can be perseived as such an individual sport and yet, there

:28:13. > :28:18.is a massive support network behind you. Yeah, what you see on the TV is

:28:19. > :28:22.just 5% what have actually goes on. There's so many people that have

:28:23. > :28:26.helped me in the past year. I've had surgery twice. I have a chronic

:28:27. > :28:30.infection that needs fixing at the end of this season. It's been like,

:28:31. > :28:36.this morning summed up what the year has been like. Stephen Maguire the

:28:37. > :28:43.head of Scottish athletics was with me at 5. 30am and witnessed me on my

:28:44. > :28:47.hands and knees with me throwing up and a nurse holding my hair back.

:28:48. > :28:48.Luckily you looked better when you got to the track.

:28:49. > :28:52.Luckily you looked better when you got to the After the race and you

:28:53. > :28:56.collapsed, exhausted on the track, the camera zoomed in to the words on

:28:57. > :29:04.your hand, which are still there which say "get out strong, commit."

:29:05. > :29:07.How do you find the strength to do what you did in the last metres,

:29:08. > :29:10.when you felt so dreadful and you've had no sleep and you know you're

:29:11. > :29:18.essentially running, not injured, but you're not running 100%? I think

:29:19. > :29:23.I've said all year that I've ran angry, raced angry. Because of

:29:24. > :29:27.everything I've been through, and I think tonight was just like the end

:29:28. > :29:30.of this journey. It was the last thing, it was two minutes, that's

:29:31. > :29:35.all I needed to do. It was two minutes to end this journey. I said

:29:36. > :29:38.to myself - I've not gone through everything in the last year to come

:29:39. > :29:42.here and not do what I wanted to do. So I was like, I'm going to get a

:29:43. > :29:46.medal. All these sessions, I was in a boot in April, in hospital in

:29:47. > :29:53.April. I didn't go through all that to come last. Your mum is at the

:29:54. > :29:59.bar, I think, at the moment. Not in a bad way. I know you want to go to

:30:00. > :30:03.the bar and get chicken nuggets as well. But here's another athlete who

:30:04. > :30:07.has had a very good night, winning gold in the pole vault, at the end

:30:08. > :30:08.there, Steve Lewis, ladies and gentleman!

:30:09. > :30:36.APPLAUSE We want to say congratulations, and

:30:37. > :30:39.talk about the event, but earlier on in the week, we were both talking

:30:40. > :30:43.about this, and we have always had the same first question which we

:30:44. > :30:49.have wanted to ask somebody who does what you do, which is, how do you do

:30:50. > :30:55.it, the first time you do a pole vault? My first jump was like an

:30:56. > :31:03.extended long jumper. We went into the sand pit with just a small pull.

:31:04. > :31:07.So you just go over it? Yes. I was 12 years old when I did my first

:31:08. > :31:13.jump, even more scrawny than I am now. I did a long jump, and I was

:31:14. > :31:19.addicted, after the first one. After that, you get onto the mat, and you

:31:20. > :31:23.just build confidence. What age were you when you first went over the

:31:24. > :31:32.bar? I was the under-13 British record holder, jumping 2.80 when I

:31:33. > :31:36.was 12 years old. And this medal completes the set for you? Yes, I

:31:37. > :31:42.did the bronze medal, which was a huge shock in Melbourne. Then, 2010,

:31:43. > :31:47.I was up against a really good pole vault. And this time, I really felt

:31:48. > :31:54.like it was mine to win. I just could not believe it. You see, he

:31:55. > :32:02.gets a nice soft landing, that is what you need, a big crash mat at

:32:03. > :32:06.the end, Lynsey Sharp! So, it was a shoot out, just like the hockey?

:32:07. > :32:11.Yes. I would imagine that is even more nerve wracking, when you are

:32:12. > :32:16.five metres up in the air? Yes, I felt I had the advantage, going

:32:17. > :32:23.second. I was like, oh, he has missed, that is good for me! I

:32:24. > :32:27.cleared 5.55 in the competition, and I was like, go back to that same

:32:28. > :32:36.grip, I have done it once today already. Like Lynsey Sharp, you have

:32:37. > :32:41.also been through rough times, where you have questioned whether it is

:32:42. > :32:44.possible to go on? Yes, after 2012, putting so much into that, breaking

:32:45. > :32:48.the British record going into the Olympics, getting so close to

:32:49. > :32:54.getting on the podium. Shortly after that, I lost my mum and had a tough

:32:55. > :33:00.time in 2013, and I decided I was going to move to America, following

:33:01. > :33:06.my coach, who was employed by British Athletics at the time. It

:33:07. > :33:10.was a big change for me, in 2013, which makes this taste a lot

:33:11. > :33:23.sweeter. I think you both deserve a massive round of applause. We will

:33:24. > :33:29.get you the chicken nuggets, I promise. Beth Tweddle has tweeted -

:33:30. > :33:36.I am so proud watching all of the gymnasts. Unbelievable achievement.

:33:37. > :33:40.We can now speak to Nijel Amos, Commonwealth 800m champion, and Dame

:33:41. > :33:50.Kelly Holmes, also at the bar this evening. Congratulations. You had a

:33:51. > :33:56.very impressive finish, just like Lynsey Sharp - where did you come

:33:57. > :34:05.from?! It was tough. I had some plans before the race. I said, no,

:34:06. > :34:14.David Rudisha will go all out on the first lap. The plan was not to get

:34:15. > :34:25.boxed in. But they made a box for me. I was like, oh, dear, I am in

:34:26. > :34:31.the box, I have to get out. When I checked on the screen, my training

:34:32. > :34:39.partner was behind me. So, he opened a space for me, and in the last 100,

:34:40. > :34:48.I thought, I can catch those guys. And how has Botswana reacted?

:34:49. > :34:56.Actually, it is the first medal of the Games, we have lost some from

:34:57. > :35:00.being in a bad position. And I think you said in one interview last

:35:01. > :35:05.night, that after you had won, some friends were going to clubbing, did

:35:06. > :35:12.you do that? No, I am taking it easy. After this, I am going for the

:35:13. > :35:21.African Championships. So, no clubbing. No. Get the African

:35:22. > :35:29.Championships out of the way first. Have you been clubbing? No, I have

:35:30. > :35:33.been travelling around. You have been very busy, you are at all of

:35:34. > :35:37.the events, because you are president of Team England? Yes, my

:35:38. > :35:41.duty is to go around and see as many people as I can. It is harder being

:35:42. > :35:46.president than it was being an athlete. I am shattered left but it

:35:47. > :35:51.has been a brilliant Games, and certainly it was topped off with

:35:52. > :35:56.presenting Lynsey Sharp with her medal tonight. You have got to put

:35:57. > :36:07.it in respect of what she has achieved, after being so ill. I said

:36:08. > :36:12.when she did her heat, she was grimacing, with 300 to go, as she

:36:13. > :36:18.came around the bend, with 100m to go, it was do or die. Because it is

:36:19. > :36:23.first three and two fastest qualifiers. She got a fastest loser,

:36:24. > :36:28.which is a lifeline. I said yesterday that if she is in

:36:29. > :36:32.contention, she will get a medal. There was something about her grit

:36:33. > :36:36.and determination. We have some fantastic 800m runners in great

:36:37. > :36:41.button, but what she has is a real tactical awareness, she places

:36:42. > :36:45.herself in the right place at the right time, and she has got such

:36:46. > :36:51.great and determination, I think she is one to watch for the future. Well

:36:52. > :37:00.done, Lynsey, I think you have done brilliant. Thank you very much to

:37:01. > :37:03.both of you for coming in. And also, we will take heart from the fact

:37:04. > :37:07.that you think watching sport is much tougher than actually doing it.

:37:08. > :37:14.You have to do the travelling about as well, though! Thank you very much

:37:15. > :37:19.to you both. We have had the gymnasts on, and diving is similar,

:37:20. > :37:26.in that there are a lot of young divers coming through, following Tom

:37:27. > :37:42.Daley's example. One was in action today - let's see what happened.

:37:43. > :37:51.Here we go. They said they were going to tear it up. And that is one

:37:52. > :38:05.dive in the bag. Rising to the occasion. Oh, yes, oh, yes!

:38:06. > :38:24.LEON TAYLOR: Well, that is a medal for sure for Australia. It is a huge

:38:25. > :38:31.dive to finish on! Jack laughter and Chris Mears are Commonwealth gold

:38:32. > :38:37.medallists! Grace Reid, from Edinburgh, looks cool and calm and

:38:38. > :38:46.collected. She is flying high on this home support. Oh, I goodness

:38:47. > :38:52.me, the dive of the competition! Yes, that is good enough to go

:38:53. > :39:04.straight into the lead. And Jennifer has defended her title. The newly

:39:05. > :39:11.formed pair of Tom Daley and James Denny. This is where things get

:39:12. > :39:22.serious. The entries are atrocious. I think we might see the Aussies

:39:23. > :39:28.nudging in front. Oh, game over, for a medal. Well, England have got a

:39:29. > :39:35.lot to do, there is a huge dive to come. Oh, the best till last! Get

:39:36. > :39:46.in! They have absolutely smashed it. This will be closer.

:39:47. > :39:56.Silver medal goes to Tom Daley and James Denny.

:39:57. > :40:03.Or I can remember on that last dive, I just said to James, just give it

:40:04. > :40:09.everything, because anything can happen in diving.

:40:10. > :40:14.Not a bad effort, considering everything. But coming over to the

:40:15. > :40:22.magic map, you have been chasing more athletes today, Oliver? Yes,

:40:23. > :40:25.finally, I have tracked down the two remaining island nations. There has

:40:26. > :40:27.been such camaraderie between these nations, it is only fitting that I

:40:28. > :40:38.got to meet both of them together. We are in the athletes' village, but

:40:39. > :40:47.I have found the final members of the 71 Club. I am from Tuvalu and I

:40:48. > :40:51.play table tennis. I am from Vanuatu and I play table tennis. What will

:40:52. > :40:58.you take home from Glasgow 2014? I have learned so much. I have learned

:40:59. > :41:05.that we have the skills, but we lack the confidence. How much have you

:41:06. > :41:09.heard from people back home? We do not have TV in Tuvalu, so they are

:41:10. > :41:16.watching it on the internet, it is very slow. So they still think you

:41:17. > :41:20.have not finished yet?! Yes! Thank you for smiling your way through the

:41:21. > :41:28.Glasgow rain this morning, and have a safe trip home. Cheers, mate!

:41:29. > :41:35.What do they think of you when they meet you, who is the crazy guy?!

:41:36. > :41:38.Some of them sometimes have not had the greatest of experiences, but it

:41:39. > :41:43.is great to have the human side of people. For a lot of them, this is a

:41:44. > :41:49.huge moment. Where else have you been? Thank you very much to the

:41:50. > :41:55.Bangladeshi gymnast who came to chat to us, and also to Charlotte

:41:56. > :41:58.Sullivan, from New Zealand. I was a bit worried about the British Virgin

:41:59. > :42:03.Islands, but then I spoke to Mark Chapman. Not that one, this one!

:42:04. > :42:11.Please welcome the team leader of the British Farne -- British Virgin

:42:12. > :42:16.Islands! What has been the performance of the Games for your

:42:17. > :42:22.team? All three girls were superstars, but our best performance

:42:23. > :42:32.was from Chantal, our long jumper. I came fourth. Frustrated or happy? A

:42:33. > :42:36.little bit of both. Well, you should be happy, because it is the best

:42:37. > :42:42.performance by the Virgin Islands in Commonwealth Games history.

:42:43. > :42:51.Brilliant stuff, and you can see more of that on the website. Right,

:42:52. > :42:55.time for a bit of this. The semifinals got under way with

:42:56. > :42:58.Michaela Walsh beating her Indian opponent on points to get through to

:42:59. > :43:05.the women's flyweight final. She will meet the Olympic gold medallist

:43:06. > :43:10.Nicola Adams, who won convincingly on points. In the men's

:43:11. > :43:16.bantamweight, Northern Ireland's Michael Conlan met Sean McGoldrick

:43:17. > :43:19.of Wales. The fight was stopped after Michael Conlan got a bad cut,

:43:20. > :43:26.that he had done enough to go through on points. He will meet

:43:27. > :43:32.Ashfaq of England, who knocked down his Kenyan opponent. In the men's

:43:33. > :43:37.lightweight, Sean Duffy from Northern Ireland bowed out after a

:43:38. > :43:42.3-0 defeat against his Namibian opponent. In the other semifinal, it

:43:43. > :43:52.was England versus Scotland. These guys train together. Josh Taylor but

:43:53. > :44:00.Sam Maxwell. The fighter from Mauritius but Nathan Fawley of Wales

:44:01. > :44:05.in the light heavyweight. Sean McGlinchey of Northern Ireland was

:44:06. > :44:08.beaten by his Kiwi opponent. And Joe Goodall will take on Joe Joyce of

:44:09. > :44:14.England in the superheavyweight final. Joyce was given a bye after

:44:15. > :44:24.his proposed opponent failed a medical before the fight.

:44:25. > :44:30.This one says, get the girl some nuggets now! This one says - all I

:44:31. > :44:40.have done today is eat ice cream. Now, for the evening session, of

:44:41. > :44:44.this... Northern Ireland's Alanna Audley-Murphy took on surely what's

:44:45. > :44:51.in the lightweight division. What's progressed convincingly. In the

:44:52. > :45:07.other semifinal, the Indian cruised through.

:45:08. > :45:14.easily. This is a torrid run for the In the Welshman. Men's light

:45:15. > :45:21.flyweight division Ashley Williams of Wales was outclassed. In the

:45:22. > :45:25.other semi, Paddy barns of Northern Ireland eased past the Ugandan.

:45:26. > :45:29.Charlie Flynn whipped up the crowd with his performance against

:45:30. > :45:32.Welshman Joe Cordena going through to the light final in three straight

:45:33. > :45:37.rounds. The men's lightweight division final will see Northern

:45:38. > :45:42.Ireland's Joe Fitzpatrick going for gold after he beat Michael

:45:43. > :45:52.Alexander. Scott Fitzgerald of England won with a points victory

:45:53. > :45:56.over Mbenge where he fights Jangra who ended Donnelly's challenge. The

:45:57. > :46:03.Ulsterman leaves however with a bronze.

:46:04. > :46:08.England middleweight Anthony Fowler won his semifinal in impressive

:46:09. > :46:14.fashion tonight. He will meet former Olympic bronze medallist Singh of

:46:15. > :46:17.India who saw off Connor Coyle in the other semi.

:46:18. > :46:23.The Scottish heavyweight Lavelle had to settle for bronze after losing a

:46:24. > :46:30.battle with New Zealand's David Light in the final bout of the

:46:31. > :46:35.evening. We've been joined now by Anthony

:46:36. > :46:41.Ogogu who won a Silver Medal in Delhi, a bronze medal in 2012 and

:46:42. > :46:45.you've been watching the boxing. The first time women's boxing is here

:46:46. > :46:49.and everybody is talking about the final of Nicola Adams against

:46:50. > :46:56.Michaela Walsh. Michaela was tremendous. She has great height for

:46:57. > :46:58.her weight. She impressed myself and Steve in the studio commentating

:46:59. > :47:05.Steve in the studiocommentating commentating today. Paddy barns has

:47:06. > :47:10.said she thinks Welsh will win. Nicola Adams took the first Gold

:47:11. > :47:13.Medal at the Olympics. She wasn't her best today. She started a little

:47:14. > :47:17.bit, I think she lost the second round, came back to win comfortably

:47:18. > :47:20.enough. I think Michaela and her team will be thinking, you know

:47:21. > :47:25.what, I can win this. That's going to set up an amazing final. There's

:47:26. > :47:30.huge strength in boxing in Northern Ireland. Nine boxers in the

:47:31. > :47:35.semifinals, four will go for gold. Yaup, Northern Ireland always do

:47:36. > :47:41.really well in the boxing. A lot of the boxers are of a similar style.

:47:42. > :47:45.But they always win. They started from Barry McGuigan and carrying on

:47:46. > :47:48.to this day. The men boxing this time without head guards. Is that

:47:49. > :47:55.working out, do you think it's better? Personally, I prefer the

:47:56. > :47:58.boxing with head guards. It separates amateur and pro boxing.

:47:59. > :48:04.We've seen a few cuts today. Tomorrow, out of the 20 boxers, the

:48:05. > :48:07.male boxers, at least seven or eight will contend with head cuts and

:48:08. > :48:12.clashes and marks over their eyes, which you get from the head-butts.

:48:13. > :48:16.Personally, head guards are better because even up to this date, a

:48:17. > :48:19.couple of boxers have been pulled out because they've suffered bad

:48:20. > :48:25.cuts. That's the problem. If you get cut in one bout and you progress,

:48:26. > :48:28.you are vulnerable in the next one, without that head guard over it,

:48:29. > :48:34.which wouldn't be the case in a professional fight. Once the bout is

:48:35. > :48:38.over, it's over. Micky Conlan sustained quite a bad cut nobody

:48:39. > :48:41.knows if he will pass the doctor. He's probably one of if not the best

:48:42. > :48:46.guy in his weight category. How sad will he be and how gutted is he

:48:47. > :48:53.going to feel if he fails the doctor tomorrow? I wonder if they'll decide

:48:54. > :48:58.to change it. Personally, Steve thinks it's better no head guards.

:48:59. > :49:03.But I think leave that stuff to the professional boxers and amateurs

:49:04. > :49:06.keep the head guards. Always good to disagree with Buncy! Thank you very

:49:07. > :49:13.much. APPLAUSE

:49:14. > :49:21.Anthony part of the 5 Live coverage here at the Games. Let's get a round

:49:22. > :49:26.up of the lawn bowls. The last day at Kelvingrove, three

:49:27. > :49:32.golds up for grabs on the green. First up was the women's pairs,

:49:33. > :49:36.where England's Natalie Melmo re-and Jamie Lee Winch took on South

:49:37. > :49:40.Africa. The match ebbed and flowed and had

:49:41. > :49:47.to be settled in an extra end with the South African's taking it to win

:49:48. > :49:52.20-17. In the bronze medal match, Katie Nixon and Lindsay Greican were

:49:53. > :50:00.hoping to win Jersey's first medal of the Games since 1990. In another

:50:01. > :50:04.tight contest Mandy Cunningham and her partner sneaked victory. In the

:50:05. > :50:11.men's fours another England versus Scotland contest for gold with

:50:12. > :50:21.Scotland's four features the pairs champions. With Marshal living up to

:50:22. > :50:26.his tag as the leanel -- Lionel Messi of bowls, they won. It's the

:50:27. > :50:30.Scottish bounce in Glasgow. There was home nation interest in the

:50:31. > :50:37.men's singles final this this evening. Scotland's Darren Burnett

:50:38. > :50:42.taking on Ryan Vesper of Canada. Scotland's winning four were

:50:43. > :50:46.watching on. Burnett built up a healthy lead eventually winning 21-9

:50:47. > :50:53.to cap a great day for the host nation at Kelvingrove.

:50:54. > :50:58.Here tonight we are overrun by medal-winning bowlers at the bar

:50:59. > :51:01.from Northern Ireland the bronze medallist Mandy Cunningham and

:51:02. > :51:06.Barbara Cameron, thank you for coming over. With the big walk on

:51:07. > :51:09.for the second time of this Commonwealth Games for two of them,

:51:10. > :51:17.at least, give a rousing reception to Scotland's Gold Medallist, David

:51:18. > :51:20.Peacock, Neil Spears and their skip Alex Marshall and Darren Bennett

:51:21. > :51:40.APPLAUSE Well done. Well, my word, this is

:51:41. > :51:45.now officially Scotland's most successful ever Commonwealth Games

:51:46. > :51:49.in bowls. Tatty, you are the man who skipped them, the four any way. It's

:51:50. > :51:53.been fantastic. The last two weeks has been a lot of hard work put into

:51:54. > :51:59.what we've done in the last two years. We have to thank our head

:52:00. > :52:03.coach, who's in the crowd tonight. Along with other staff, our

:52:04. > :52:08.psychologist as well. We've had a great two weeks. All the guys get on

:52:09. > :52:12.well together. It's great to finish with five gold medals in the one

:52:13. > :52:17.day. Does it add pressure, David or Neil, to come here when they've won

:52:18. > :52:21.a gold pair? Or is it more of a confidence boost? Once they won the

:52:22. > :52:25.Gold Medal, me and Neil said to ourselves, well we can't fail now

:52:26. > :52:28.after these guys, because they've been playing outstanding bowls for

:52:29. > :52:31.the last two weeks. We need to put them in and these guys will take

:52:32. > :52:39.care of the rest. That's what they did. Darren, what's your day job?

:52:40. > :52:45.Sorry, I was looking up there. You look like you might be a policeman,

:52:46. > :52:50.sorry! I am a policeman, yeah, so lucky to be here in this uniform and

:52:51. > :52:54.not the other one. You were given special dispenisation to take time

:52:55. > :53:00.off? Yeah I was. A few reports went in and I was given the nod to take

:53:01. > :53:04.the time in. Police leave was cancelled wasn't it? All police was
