:00:09. > :00:19.Yes, she has done it. Becky James! Jason Kenny who is the world

:00:20. > :00:21.champion! Great Britain are the team that couldn't be beaten. They are

:00:22. > :00:48.the world champions again. Every sport has its spiritual home,

:00:49. > :00:53.football, Wembley, tennis, Wimbledon. For Britain's most

:00:54. > :01:06.successful sport recently, Manchester.

:01:07. > :01:13.He is on the shoulder, coming down the finishing straight! Chris Hoy is

:01:14. > :01:29.the world champion. The new world record! The whole of

:01:30. > :01:33.the stadium are on their feet. He can't believe it. I didn't think

:01:34. > :01:35.anybody else can. This is unbelievable stuff. Great Britain

:01:36. > :01:53.are the world champions. The world champion for the third

:01:54. > :01:57.time. Good afternoon. Coverage of the track-side World Cup from

:01:58. > :02:01.Manchester. A place you could call the performance at the centre of

:02:02. > :02:09.world cycling. One of its most famous alumna, nine times world

:02:10. > :02:16.champion, Victoria Pendleton. What is it like to be back? Great. This

:02:17. > :02:21.is the home of British cycling. A fantastic crowd. How much of a

:02:22. > :02:27.difference will it make performing on a home track in front of that

:02:28. > :02:34.applause? It makes it so much easier, these other boards we are

:02:35. > :02:42.familiar with. The track is the one we use day in, day out. It gives you

:02:43. > :02:49.confidence. Are you comfortable sitting there or would you prefer to

:02:50. > :02:54.be over there? I am OK here. The first live action is the men's

:02:55. > :03:00.sprint. The women's omnium, Laura Trott in action and Becky James in

:03:01. > :03:05.the women's came in. Highlights of the weekends action as well. We

:03:06. > :03:14.start with Saturday, the women sprint. Becky James up against Anna

:03:15. > :03:22.Meares. For bronze, one race up, we join Becky one race up.

:03:23. > :03:32.Anna Meares on the front. Pay attention to Anna Meares's head.

:03:33. > :03:40.Looking over her right shoulder. What you can do is, she is wearing a

:03:41. > :03:44.helmet with a visor but if it is tinted you can be looking forward

:03:45. > :03:50.and your opponent still thinks you are looking backwards. The last

:03:51. > :03:55.thing you want to do is for your opponent to catch you off-guard.

:03:56. > :03:59.Anna Meares is one of the best riders out there for observation. I

:04:00. > :04:06.use her as an example when I approach my riders how to do it. She

:04:07. > :04:11.is as hard as nails on the track, and I don't mean that in a bad way.

:04:12. > :04:14.She is a quality quality, world-class.

:04:15. > :04:19.A really nice lady as well. But a tough competitor on the track.

:04:20. > :04:26.You have got to be. Both riders getting high. Anna

:04:27. > :04:34.Meares with a wobble. She got too close to defence. She surprised

:04:35. > :04:41.herself. Trying to keep the gap. Becky is building up men's to

:04:42. > :04:46.encourage Anna Meares to take it on. Anna Meares does take it on. Becky

:04:47. > :04:54.James into her sprint. Anna Meares looking behind. Almost

:04:55. > :05:03.drawing level! Into the finishing straight. What a sprint for Becky

:05:04. > :05:07.James. The world champion prevails. It wasn't the colour she came here

:05:08. > :05:11.for but it is a victory over Anna Meares.

:05:12. > :05:17.And it confirms the bronze for Becky James and she beats Anna Meares, the

:05:18. > :05:27.Olympic sprint champion in straight rides.

:05:28. > :05:34.Kristina Vogel showing too much speed in the first race. The last

:05:35. > :05:48.chance saloon here. If there is any first-time viewers,

:05:49. > :05:52.quite often we are asked why don't they go from the start line but if

:05:53. > :05:58.you were to do that, it takes 45 seconds which creates a lot of

:05:59. > :06:04.lactic acid in the legs so it hurts. Quite often your opponent can

:06:05. > :06:08.get in your draft and sit behind you and let you exhaust yourself and

:06:09. > :06:14.pass you. Sometimes, as happened to Chris Hoy in the past, people catch

:06:15. > :06:19.people out. Not often we see people go from the start, both riders

:06:20. > :06:24.keeping the pace pretty low at the moment. I am sure the pace will pick

:06:25. > :06:32.up as they come round the second lap. Sir Chris got caught out a

:06:33. > :06:38.couple of times. You have to be ingenious to try to think some way

:06:39. > :06:40.to beat him. Yes, up against someone you can't beat so you need a plan B.

:06:41. > :07:33.It does happen. The last lap now... Kristina Vogel

:07:34. > :07:40.holding the gap from Hong Kong. Superb sprinting from the German.

:07:41. > :07:42.Another great ride from Kristina Vogel cancelling out any attack Hong

:07:43. > :08:01.Kong had. Kristina Vogel has really got the

:08:02. > :08:09.form at the moment. She showed it throughout the tournament. This

:08:10. > :08:12.match sprint tournament. Through to the final in straight rides winning

:08:13. > :08:18.the final in straight rides. Kristina Vogel who took gold in the

:08:19. > :08:29.World Cup a year ago does so again. Clean execution. Great riding from

:08:30. > :08:35.Kristina Vogel. The truth is Kristina Vogel one with room to

:08:36. > :08:42.spare this weekend. Absolutely. I am so chuffed. Qualifying with a

:08:43. > :08:50.good time which I was happy with. It is always good to do better than

:08:51. > :08:56.qualifying. To have this many races, I am really happy. I thought I would

:08:57. > :09:01.get a break from the British after Vicky retired but it's not going to

:09:02. > :09:07.happen! That he was always going to be a headache after racing her as an

:09:08. > :09:15.18-year-old in Delhi. She has become a real strong young woman and

:09:16. > :09:23.deservedly those bands she wears around her chest. I will not take it

:09:24. > :09:28.lightly. A bronze for Becky James. A word on Anna Meares. Your great

:09:29. > :09:34.rival. We have given her another headache in the terms of Becky

:09:35. > :09:39.James. Anna took time out after the Olympics, it was 100% the right

:09:40. > :09:44.thing to do. She has been top of her game as I was and it is difficult to

:09:45. > :09:50.maintain and having time out will refresh. She has incredible gas but

:09:51. > :09:54.not the length of sprint you need when you train consistently. Becky

:09:55. > :10:01.is fresh and eager and she doesn't have any fears. I am sure Anna will

:10:02. > :10:06.be back. The men's sprint coming up. A big shock, no Jason Kenny. He did

:10:07. > :10:13.not make it through the time trial. I have heard that in training the

:10:14. > :10:18.time he did was consistent. They were not expecting much more from

:10:19. > :10:22.him. He is training hard, putting strength work in. And off the back

:10:23. > :10:28.of the Olympics it is hard to maintain form so long. They won the

:10:29. > :10:33.worlds, carried through and sometimes you have to wait for a

:10:34. > :10:39.better time. Matt Crampton did make it through. He spoke to Jill

:10:40. > :10:47.Douglas. How are you feeling? My form has been good. We have had a

:10:48. > :10:50.good block, international championships and then the

:10:51. > :10:59.Europeans. A week later we are here. In between that, the revolution on

:11:00. > :11:12.Saturday night. A good 200 meter time, good sprinting with Jason.

:11:13. > :11:20.Onwards and upwards. This was Matthew up against the Czech

:11:21. > :11:23.Republic. Matt has been one of those athletes who has been in the

:11:24. > :11:32.background. A nice opportunity for him. It is difficult. He has had

:11:33. > :11:37.injury problems and it is fantastic to see Matt showing what he's got to

:11:38. > :11:44.offer. Matt goes in the second semifinal against Trinidad and

:11:45. > :11:52.Tobago. The first semifinal will be forced against Perkins.

:11:53. > :12:11.Not wearing the Australian colours, he is in blue. Interesting listening

:12:12. > :12:17.to Victoria and Jonathan talking about Matt Crampton, we will see him

:12:18. > :12:21.in a moment. It is good to see him because he's been around for quite

:12:22. > :12:25.awhile and has had some tough things to with, not being selected our

:12:26. > :12:30.vital moments when the Olympic Games come round. It is good to be part of

:12:31. > :12:35.that team going into the Olympics are not make the final selection.

:12:36. > :12:39.It is quite difficult. It is difficult psychologically but he

:12:40. > :12:42.keeps going and he is there or thereabouts all the time. Some

:12:43. > :12:47.extremely good performances. Just lacking now and again. We are

:12:48. > :12:58.watching Robert Forstemann and Shane Perkins. It is the best of three.

:12:59. > :13:04.Robert Forstemann is in the back. He has been a while champion in the

:13:05. > :13:09.team sprint. He beat Maximilian Levy in the eight finals and then Denis

:13:10. > :13:24.Dmitriev in the quarterfinals. Shane Perkins, and Perkins prevails, the

:13:25. > :13:38.Commonwealth champion in the match sprint. He won that in Delhi.

:13:39. > :13:48.The German has the out and out speed but Hassey got the tactics?

:13:49. > :13:53.They start to wind it up in this first semifinal. Perkins heading

:13:54. > :13:58.down to the bottom of the track. Look at the turn of pace from Robert

:13:59. > :14:04.Forstemann. Perkins will need a second wind. The gap is opening up.

:14:05. > :14:05.Robert Forstemann will not be beaten. A comfortable victory for

:14:06. > :14:22.Germany. He is going well at the moment. He

:14:23. > :14:29.had power to spare. He had power to spare and as you see him coming in,

:14:30. > :14:35.he realised he had it in the bag and was able to ease up as the finishing

:14:36. > :14:45.line approached. Robert Forstemann... During first

:14:46. > :14:54.blood in the first of the semifinals. Heat one, race one. It

:14:55. > :15:01.goes to Germany. Matt Crampton is next on the track. There he is. He

:15:02. > :15:08.is up against quite a character from Trinidad and Tobago. He lost to

:15:09. > :15:14.Jason Kenny in the semifinals, seventh in the clearing. He was one

:15:15. > :15:20.of the riders more than any other al-Sadr British team who the crowd

:15:21. > :15:33.really responded to. -- keirin. The crowd lifted the roof last year.

:15:34. > :15:46.He qualified today third in a 9-point 9.36. Crampton not getting

:15:47. > :15:52.an early ten second mark, just outside, qualified intent. So I

:15:53. > :15:57.think Crampton has got his work cut out here, sheer speed wise, and we

:15:58. > :16:04.know that Phillip, he can race tactically, he is extremely good. A

:16:05. > :16:08.fascinating matchup in prospect, Phillip has got a decent sized scalp

:16:09. > :16:15.under his belt beating the Frenchman, Michael D'Almeida.

:16:16. > :16:17.Crampton, former keirin champion and Commonwealth silver medallist in

:16:18. > :16:42.2006. Eyeing each other up. The front

:16:43. > :16:48.rider will want to get up to speed, producing up to

:16:49. > :16:52.rider will want to get up to speed, is why it is sometimes ideal to be

:16:53. > :16:57.in the slipstream and trying to catch the opposition just coming up

:16:58. > :17:06.the home straight and there is an awful lot going on here. At the

:17:07. > :17:09.moment is Crampton in the front position keeping an eye on Phillip,

:17:10. > :17:14.making sure that he doesn't do a long way from the finish and try to

:17:15. > :17:17.jump him. Starting to wind up now. Crampton keeping the pace moderately

:17:18. > :17:23.high all the way round, he is aware of the job. Phillip has got that.

:17:24. > :17:28.And it is Matt Crampton of Great Britain who has the advantage and

:17:29. > :17:33.Phillip has got a lot of work to do but he is closing that gap. What a

:17:34. > :17:40.sprint to the line and how beautifully timed it was. Phillip

:17:41. > :17:44.from Trinidad Tobago! It looked like Crampton had enough room to

:17:45. > :17:49.spare their but what Phillip was doing, was running at Crampton in

:17:50. > :17:54.his slipstream side gave him a good couple of bike lengths, able to go

:17:55. > :18:01.past him through the slipstream and then give it the kick as Crampton 's

:18:02. > :18:07.legs started to drop off. We are looking at a rider here, Phillip,

:18:08. > :18:15.who could be a major player in the track season, he has taken the scalp

:18:16. > :18:19.is of Denis Dmitriev and has beaten Michael D'Almeida here already and

:18:20. > :18:22.he looked mighty impressive there against Matt Crampton. Extremely

:18:23. > :18:27.good. And you must remember that he is coming from a nation that does

:18:28. > :18:31.not have massive funding but he is obviously the top dog from that

:18:32. > :18:36.country so any funding they have, all the energy will go into that one

:18:37. > :18:45.rider with very few peripheral riders so a good ride by him.

:18:46. > :18:51.Phillip leading in the semifinal and the other one being led by Robert

:18:52. > :18:58.Forstemann. Again Shane Perkins of Australia.

:18:59. > :19:12.The Germans have come here clearly in good form, we saw Kristina Vogel

:19:13. > :19:19.winning the women's sprint. You can see they have an very strong

:19:20. > :19:24.sprinters. He has got such a turn of speed and when he accelerates, it is

:19:25. > :19:28.difficult, difficult for Perkins to respond. The powers past and you

:19:29. > :19:32.just have to look at him and see the man is built for speed and Perkins

:19:33. > :19:36.was a bit outsmarted by think the Germans have come away from the

:19:37. > :19:40.Olympics wanting to really make their mark here on track cycling and

:19:41. > :19:48.show themselves as a leading nation. They're still, something that I

:19:49. > :19:56.think everybody has seen, those thighs. I know! They are huge.

:19:57. > :19:59.Without meaning any offence, he looks like a caricature of a track

:20:00. > :20:05.cyclist. They are incredible. Chris Foy has got amazing thighs that they

:20:06. > :20:11.almost seem out of proportion -- Chris Hoy. They almost look to big,

:20:12. > :20:18.they look like they have been transplanted from a rhinoceros! They

:20:19. > :20:26.do lots of work to redevelop muscle and lots of quad muscle, it is

:20:27. > :20:37.something you see in a sprinter, to generate power. You are very lithe

:20:38. > :20:44.though. They are down one race against Phillip, and it is nice to

:20:45. > :20:51.see an athlete from Trinidad Tobago, not renowned for cycling,

:20:52. > :20:54.doing so well. Guess, and so much support in the Olympics, the crowd

:20:55. > :20:59.really got behind him. It is good that they can come here and give the

:21:00. > :21:03.top riders a run for their money. He is an awesome personality, people

:21:04. > :21:08.love watching him. They bring something to the sport. Let's have a

:21:09. > :21:13.look at Matt's race, he got out well and both Matt and Simon in the

:21:14. > :21:20.commentary thought he had the jump on Phillip. With one lap to go, you

:21:21. > :21:24.can see that he was being told to get more height because he was

:21:25. > :21:28.already coming here with quite a lot of speed and Matt did not have much

:21:29. > :21:32.space on the track to descend and generate more, holding an to try to

:21:33. > :21:39.get as much out in the back straight out of the saddle. But when a rider

:21:40. > :21:43.gets a job and you are having less height, it is difficult. I think he

:21:44. > :21:48.can do better than that and I think we will see that in the next ride.

:21:49. > :21:54.Was that a bit of naivete in the tactics there? Not at all, Matt is

:21:55. > :22:00.an excellent sprinter. We have not seen much of him because we have had

:22:01. > :22:04.the likes of Jason Kenny and Chris Hoy not giving him the opportunity

:22:05. > :22:09.to be part of the major events but behind the scenes, Matt has been

:22:10. > :22:12.working hard, he has had some injury problems and he has not been

:22:13. > :22:16.selected all the time that he is coming back strong. He is very

:22:17. > :22:20.tactically astute and I know he can do better. He is definitely one to

:22:21. > :22:23.watch in the future. The next races coming up at about three o'clock, we

:22:24. > :22:29.will turn our attention to Laura Trott who started her on the

:22:30. > :22:30.campaign, but first let's hear from Laura on her thoughts ahead of this

:22:31. > :22:42.weekend. You beat the local favourite. Just!

:22:43. > :22:45.A win is a win! You have got the form for it, you enjoy it, it is a

:22:46. > :22:52.challenge but it is something that you seem to enjoy. It is something I

:22:53. > :22:57.enjoy, it is a challenge. I crashed at the European Championships, and I

:22:58. > :23:01.was like up and down and then thinking, what am I doing? And I do

:23:02. > :23:07.enjoy it, I get Abe was and it is very emotional. It is hard on your

:23:08. > :23:11.legs because it is such a long competition but it is draining on

:23:12. > :23:15.your emotions as well. But I really like it. It would be nice to make it

:23:16. > :23:16.easier but it is good going into the 500 metres thinking, is she going to

:23:17. > :23:31.win? Or is she not? The final event of the day was the

:23:32. > :23:36.elimination, a party piece for Laura, she needed a big performance

:23:37. > :23:39.to remain in contention. COMMENTATOR: Laura Trott on the

:23:40. > :23:43.front, in seventh place overall of the two events in the women's

:23:44. > :23:48.omnium. The Canadian going around the outside towards the front.

:23:49. > :23:59.Annette Edmondson from Australia is right on her wheel. Laura Trott is

:24:00. > :24:01.in fourth, the Polish rider was the last over the line -- first over the

:24:02. > :24:23.line that last time. Carlton of Canada on the front.

:24:24. > :24:28.Laura Trott, number 17. She is moving up and the French, leading

:24:29. > :24:33.overall after two events has found herself in a tough spot and she has

:24:34. > :24:35.gone. So she will score more points than she would have liked, certainly

:24:36. > :24:44.she has designs on the gold medal. A little bit too much work to do at

:24:45. > :24:52.the end, Laura Trott sitting at the back of the pack at the moment. But

:24:53. > :24:59.she has a good job. Laura Trott loitering at the back on the wheel

:25:00. > :25:05.of the Italian rider. Laura Trott will have to put a bit of a spurt on

:25:06. > :25:09.here and here it comes, has she got enough to stay in this race? Yes,

:25:10. > :25:17.she has. The Italian rider was teasing the crowd, she goes. She

:25:18. > :25:26.does it the same every time. It does get the crowd going. And then there

:25:27. > :25:30.were six. Here comes the bell, the elimination is coming every other

:25:31. > :25:35.lap. Laura Trott stalking everybody else at the back.

:25:36. > :25:44.Laura Trott gets all her wheel and Annette Edmondson tries to respond,

:25:45. > :25:56.it is getting competitive now. Carlton have the unhindered path at

:25:57. > :26:00.the front. Laura Trott, she is there and five riders left now in the

:26:01. > :26:04.elimination race here in the women's omnium. One of those five,

:26:05. > :26:09.predictably, is the Olympic champion, Laura Trott at the back of

:26:10. > :26:14.the pack. Next time over the line, the last rider over the line will be

:26:15. > :26:17.out and Laura Trott again will make a move from the back. Trying to go

:26:18. > :26:30.around the wheel of Annette Edmondson.

:26:31. > :26:41.The Spanish rider is out. There was not much in that. That was close.

:26:42. > :26:54.The elimination lap again, Carlton, Edmondson, Trott. Belgium, Canada,

:26:55. > :26:57.Australia and Great Britain and here goes Laura Trott and Edmondson knows

:26:58. > :27:00.she must respond because you will find herself at the back. Controlled

:27:01. > :27:05.effort, nice and smooth on the power.

:27:06. > :27:13.Gillian Carlton is the one to go, the Olympic bronze medallist in the

:27:14. > :27:17.team pursuit. She spent a bit of time on the front, exhausting

:27:18. > :27:22.herself as not taking any shelter and I think she paid for it. We are

:27:23. > :27:26.getting down to the business end of this elimination race now, the crowd

:27:27. > :27:30.staying behind Laura Trott, loving this as Annette Edmondson is riding

:27:31. > :27:33.on the front and the Belgian having a look over her shoulder with Laura

:27:34. > :27:42.Trott tucked in and here comes the effort from Laura Trott again. The

:27:43. > :27:45.Belgian has not got anywhere to go here. Laura Trott and Annette

:27:46. > :27:50.Edmondson will be the last two left, the Belgian rider is out.

:27:51. > :28:00.Now it becomes a match sprint between Laura Trott and Edmondson of

:28:01. > :28:09.Australia. The grand finale between Annette Edmondson and Laura Trott.

:28:10. > :28:15.The big finish on day two. Here comes the sprint. Edmondson leads it

:28:16. > :28:19.out, Trott tries to stalk her prey. It will come to view has got the

:28:20. > :28:23.most left in their legs, and it will be close, really close! Annette

:28:24. > :28:27.Edmondson takes the victory and Laura Trott, for once in the

:28:28. > :28:32.elimination race, has to settle for second place but she kept it

:28:33. > :28:36.exciting right to the end, the crowd on their feet. This is how close it

:28:37. > :28:44.was but Annette Edmondson am absolutely refused to give way. --

:28:45. > :28:49.Annette Edmondson absolutely refused. Laura Trott moved up to

:28:50. > :28:53.fourth overnight and she began this morning with the first event of

:28:54. > :28:58.today, the three kilometre pursuit, basically a time trial with Laura

:28:59. > :29:03.Trott very strong at this with a team pursuit background and cheaper

:29:04. > :29:10.to the time of three minutes and 34.293 seconds. And once again, just

:29:11. > :29:18.pipped for first place with Gillian Carlton posting a time of three:

:29:19. > :29:23.34.003. Just three tenths of a second behind the Canadian but good

:29:24. > :29:27.points in the time trial for Laura Trott but back on track for the

:29:28. > :29:33.scratch race, Laura Trott is at the back, is she struggling? Actually,

:29:34. > :29:39.she had gained a lap on all of her rivals and that is quite a

:29:40. > :29:45.performance in a scratch race. She will try to win the gold medal Laura

:29:46. > :29:50.Trott gaining a lap and in a bunch sprint, she finished in the bunch

:29:51. > :29:53.but because she gained the lap, she actually ended up winning the

:29:54. > :29:59.scratch race and Gillian Carlton who won the time trial, down in ninth

:30:00. > :30:06.place losing lots of points to Laura Trott. A big smile on her face and

:30:07. > :30:09.this is why. With one event to go, the 500 metres time trial, Laura

:30:10. > :30:15.Trott in first place with Gillian three points behind. With Laura

:30:16. > :30:19.Trott being such a strong participant in the time trial, can

:30:20. > :30:24.we have the gold medal around her neck? One event like that, and Laura

:30:25. > :30:28.is very strong at it, it is difficult to think anybody else will

:30:29. > :30:32.squeeze in there. She did a great job in the bunch races, she is quite

:30:33. > :30:36.small and slight, she does not create a lot of draft for other

:30:37. > :30:41.riders but she can work the bunch and work out what she needs to do.

:30:42. > :30:46.Lots of talk about her week, perhaps that has been in the bunch race. She

:30:47. > :30:52.did not have a good points race but she raced brilliantly in the

:30:53. > :30:56.scratch. Absolutely. It is difficult in the omnium, she does not need to

:30:57. > :31:00.win everything to win overall, she has to do better than everybody

:31:01. > :31:04.else. And she is by far the most versatile of omnium riders. She is

:31:05. > :31:08.great on her own in the time trial but also good in the bunch. It

:31:09. > :31:11.sometimes does not go your way but coming back, the scratch race,

:31:12. > :31:20.taking a lap on the rest of the bunch, that is impressive. Boy she

:31:21. > :31:27.has such exuberance. She loves riding. Yes, and it is great having

:31:28. > :31:34.people like that who are full of energy, bringing that to the track.

:31:35. > :31:42.Everyone can feed off that -- Laura. She likes the drama. Keeping the

:31:43. > :31:49.crowd on the edge of their seats. It makes for exciting viewing. Laura is

:31:50. > :31:54.honest, she talks about ups and downs but she always gets stuck in.

:31:55. > :32:01.She gets the bit between her teeth. It is fun to watch. She has become a

:32:02. > :32:07.household name in a short period, no one had heard of her prior to 2012.

:32:08. > :32:09.She has been racing a bike a long time.

:32:10. > :32:16.I have raced against Laura well before she was on the team. She was

:32:17. > :32:22.small, so much power, she put men to shame in mixed races. She has been

:32:23. > :32:29.working hard and she has had a chance to shine. Is she as bubbly

:32:30. > :32:33.off-camera as on camera? Yes, exactly the same.

:32:34. > :32:39.There are times when she is focused, very controlled. She removes the

:32:40. > :32:46.expression from her face. She has that ability to focus when required

:32:47. > :32:52.but she comes to training with that attitude. It is a good positive

:32:53. > :32:59.attitude. It works. The results speak themselves. 500 metres between

:33:00. > :33:03.her and a gold medal. It is not a world of pain if it's

:33:04. > :33:09.the only thing you are doing but it is tough. She is a tough girl. She

:33:10. > :33:15.will go last. Three more athletes to go first.

:33:16. > :33:26.Welcome back. They go off in pairs in this time trial. Two laps of the

:33:27. > :33:34.track. They go in ascending order. The last pair is Laura Trott and

:33:35. > :33:47.Gillian. Belgium also have to go. First, France and Spain. A world

:33:48. > :33:52.bronze medallist, three years ago. She has an Olympic bronze medal as

:33:53. > :34:03.well earlier in her career from Beijing. It is a tough event. A lot

:34:04. > :34:09.of the riders will be sore, legs getting tired in the third day of

:34:10. > :34:14.the competition. It is always a tough one. You never know quite

:34:15. > :34:20.where you are at. Looking forward to Laura Trott. Russia leads the way at

:34:21. > :34:54.the moment with the fastest time. A chance of finishing in the podium

:34:55. > :35:03.places according to how the time trial pans out. Good technique by

:35:04. > :35:20.both of these riders. France set the fastest time.

:35:21. > :35:31.Spain are third fastest. Two pairs of riders to go. One more race

:35:32. > :35:37.before Laura Trott. This is the event where the riders cannot afford

:35:38. > :35:46.to hold anything back. The legs are getting tired now. The last event

:35:47. > :35:54.for them. Even over two laps, lactic acid will burn up. You still have

:35:55. > :36:04.two pace your way around. And try not to let the time of the previous

:36:05. > :36:12.riders get into your head too much. Laura Trott is well aware of that.

:36:13. > :36:18.A top three finish before Laura Trott would guarantee her victory.

:36:19. > :36:23.If she loses her advantage in this final event and it is a tie on

:36:24. > :36:29.points, it would go to account back on the Times events and she would

:36:30. > :36:35.lose. She would. It is nip and tuck. World

:36:36. > :36:45.Championships, Laura was fourth in the 500 metres time trial and we

:36:46. > :36:55.know that she is quick in the lap time trial as well.

:36:56. > :37:31.Edmondson fairing the better of the two. Fourth fastest time at half

:37:32. > :37:50.distance. She has a good time trial under her belt.

:37:51. > :38:13.Good conditions in the velodrome. It is quite tasty. They crank the

:38:14. > :38:23.heating up. It is quite warm in the commentary position looking down at

:38:24. > :38:30.Chris Newton. He is making sure everything is OK, making sure the

:38:31. > :38:38.break on the back of the starting gate is aligned on the rim -- brake.

:38:39. > :38:46.Making sure the pedals are in the right position.

:38:47. > :38:58.If it goes wrong here, it can throw the rider mentally. She confirmed

:38:59. > :39:03.her Olympic title. She is a double Olympic champion with team pursuit

:39:04. > :39:05.as well at London 2012 having one goal this weekend in the women's

:39:06. > :39:19.team pursuit. Gillian Carlton left the road season

:39:20. > :39:26.early to deal with some issues of depression which C has confronted

:39:27. > :39:30.head on and it is great to see how back on the track, a really talented

:39:31. > :39:40.cyclist and bronze in team pursuit in London.

:39:41. > :39:51.What a roaring site in Manchester. You know she gives it 100% and a

:39:52. > :39:59.little bit more. Down the back straight.

:40:00. > :40:06.A good solid start by Trott. She is well up. Laura Trott is the fastest,

:40:07. > :40:19.she is the favourite in this event. She is half a lap from taking gold.

:40:20. > :40:25.Laura Trott, she breaks at 35 points 331 seconds. She wins the final

:40:26. > :40:29.event. She wins the women's omnium. A standing ovation from a packed

:40:30. > :40:35.crowd. That is one of the best 500 metre

:40:36. > :40:42.time trials I have seen Happel out. Two events in a row. The scratch

:40:43. > :40:48.race earlier on and finishing with another victory. Laura Trott got

:40:49. > :40:54.better and better as it went on. She was sixth in the first event,

:40:55. > :41:02.seventh in the points race and then second in the elimination. She has

:41:03. > :41:09.won the last two events. She has done it in the grand manner, that

:41:10. > :41:16.was some finish to a great event. Laura Trott is the winner.

:41:17. > :41:27.Five points lead over the Canadian. The French rider took bronze ahead

:41:28. > :41:33.of Belgium. Chris Newton new Laura Trott had everything under control.

:41:34. > :41:39.One last effort to secure the gold medal for Laura Trott and Great

:41:40. > :41:45.Britain. Great Britain have been leading the medal table throughout

:41:46. > :41:51.the weekend. Canada takes over and France, bronze.

:41:52. > :42:04.Confirmation of the results: A blistering ride from Laura Trott.

:42:05. > :42:15.A pace that Gillian could not live with.

:42:16. > :42:26.A great weekend of work for Laura Trott with that performance in the

:42:27. > :42:34.women's team pursuit. And on the last two days as well in the omnium.

:42:35. > :42:42.The seventh mother for Great Britain. Four gold medals now ahead

:42:43. > :42:45.of Germany with three golds. Great Britain leading the medal table and

:42:46. > :42:55.Laura Trott claiming gold in the women's omnium. Next up, match to in

:42:56. > :43:03.the semifinals of the men's individual sprint. Shane Perkins

:43:04. > :43:13.from Australia riding against Robert Forstemann. Robert Forstemann got a

:43:14. > :43:19.great jump going into the first end on the last lap, blistering pace

:43:20. > :43:23.which took him clear with room to spare. He had the height as well on

:43:24. > :43:33.the track. He looked unbeatable. It will take a

:43:34. > :43:35.hell of a ride from Perkins to get level. It will be extremely

:43:36. > :43:53.difficult. A lot of the better riders have to

:43:54. > :43:59.write more often. There will be better fields in all of the teams.

:44:00. > :44:07.They cannot pick and choose as much as in the past. It adds more onto

:44:08. > :44:11.Great Britain. Along with a handful of other federations, they have the

:44:12. > :44:15.financial backing but even so they still have to look after their

:44:16. > :44:19.budgets. For the smaller nations it is difficult. The Australian leading

:44:20. > :44:25.the way, Robert Forstemann winding it up as they come in towards the

:44:26. > :44:28.final lap. A reminder that Perkins has to win this race otherwise

:44:29. > :44:34.Robert Forstemann will be through to the final. Perkins going from the

:44:35. > :44:39.front. Has he got the strength? Robert Forstemann pushing him all

:44:40. > :44:44.the way to the line. Robert Forstemann was a little bit too

:44:45. > :44:50.quick for Shane Perkins. He goes through to the gold-medal race. A

:44:51. > :44:55.good job Robert Forstemann has that top end speed over Perkins because

:44:56. > :45:01.he seems to hang back and when he relaxed a little bit or he'd timed

:45:02. > :45:03.it to perfection, but he hung back and ran at Perkins down the back

:45:04. > :45:13.straight. He rode on the slipstream. Maybe he

:45:14. > :45:17.has more in the tank. It looked that way as he came towards the line.

:45:18. > :45:24.This is coming around the final banking. In towards the finishing

:45:25. > :45:29.straight. As you say, he eases up and sit up as they cross the line.

:45:30. > :45:35.Squeezed on the last few pedal revs. When you get that position, you know

:45:36. > :45:44.you have got it. He did just enough. Half will probably felt like half a

:45:45. > :45:48.mile. We might find out who he will be up against in a couple of minutes

:45:49. > :45:56.because Matt Crampton from Great Britain at the top of the track

:45:57. > :46:01.taking an Phillip from Trinidad. He has to win this one. Otherwise it

:46:02. > :46:05.will be bronze at best for the British rider. You come into the

:46:06. > :46:09.second round like this as we see Matt Crampton just getting down on

:46:10. > :46:15.the bars, the pressure really does pile on when you know you are one

:46:16. > :46:18.down. As opposed to Phillip, he is certainly not relaxing there but he

:46:19. > :46:23.has got a psychological advantage. Since to have a physical one at the

:46:24. > :46:28.moment as well. Away they go, how do you think Matt Crampton should

:46:29. > :46:35.approach this? I really don't know. He has just got to try and stay even

:46:36. > :46:39.with him. Top end speed. They are both fairly even so he cannot afford

:46:40. > :46:43.to give him too much room. Whether he will try and go from behind this

:46:44. > :46:46.time because he led out in the previous round and it was to no

:46:47. > :46:50.avail so he has got the advantage here, he is in second place, whether

:46:51. > :46:53.he will try and keep that I don't know and try and do basically what

:46:54. > :47:01.Forstemann did in the previous round with Perkins. As Victoria Pendleton

:47:02. > :47:06.was saying, Matt Crampton's misfortune to be around at the same

:47:07. > :47:12.time as the likes of Jason Kenny and Sir Chris Hoy, here's a two times

:47:13. > :47:20.world silver medallist, and he has got very much lots of skill but very

:47:21. > :47:28.much in the shadow of other riders. To fit on the bikes as the new

:47:29. > :47:31.regulations are in so he has to write short in the handlebars and

:47:32. > :47:34.his frontal area and drag are quite a lot bigger than the other riders.

:47:35. > :47:38.Having said that, some of the sprinters here, Phillip is another

:47:39. > :47:44.big rider but that has been one thing that really does stop Crampton

:47:45. > :47:49.in his speed and when you get up to top end speed, drag is so important.

:47:50. > :47:53.Crampton goes high up, he will look to gain the speed from that. Just

:47:54. > :48:00.under a lap but they have to go here. Matt Crampton must win this to

:48:01. > :48:04.stay on and he will go for it now and Phillip has this printer's line.

:48:05. > :48:13.Matt Crampton doing his best to draw level. Shoulder to shoulder, eyeball

:48:14. > :48:20.to eyeball. Phillip is just too quick and too fast and there was

:48:21. > :48:25.nothing that Matt Crampton could do about that, he took the race to him

:48:26. > :48:30.but at the end he dished Billy Mark Ridgers did not have the speed. He

:48:31. > :48:33.was sat a little bit low at the bottom of the track, stayed right at

:48:34. > :48:37.the fence that time and did everything he could but

:48:38. > :48:43.unfortunately when he made his move, Phillip was able to put the

:48:44. > :48:48.gas on and keep Crampton on his hip and make him go the long way around

:48:49. > :48:52.in the wind. We mention Phillip there, Matt Crampton was up against

:48:53. > :48:54.a rider who is getting better and better and he finished fourth in the

:48:55. > :48:59.sprint in the other big games are only beaten by the eventual

:49:00. > :49:05.champion, Jason Kenny of Great Britain in the semifinal so Phillip

:49:06. > :49:08.through to the final of the men's sprint where he will face Robert

:49:09. > :49:14.Forstemann of Germany and the bronze pits Great Britain against Australia

:49:15. > :49:16.with Matt Crampton up against Shane Perkins. There is the confirmation

:49:17. > :49:20.of what we have just seen. Straightforward win for Phillip of

:49:21. > :49:33.Trinidad Tobago. JONATHAN EDWARDS: Great performances

:49:34. > :49:37.there from Forstemann and Phillip. Let's have a look at that race

:49:38. > :49:42.there. You have got a feeling that Phillip tactically controlled it

:49:43. > :49:48.very well. I think he did. There is such a narrow margin between both of

:49:49. > :49:52.the riders that it is a tiny mistake and a tiny gap that makes a

:49:53. > :49:55.difference. Matt he started to accelerate and gain height on the

:49:56. > :50:00.track, what he was lacking in the first right, he accelerated and

:50:01. > :50:05.almost like he was doing for a time trial trying to get maximum speed

:50:06. > :50:10.and dissent from the track here and he did the best job he could but

:50:11. > :50:14.Phillip held the red line very close around the bend and kept Matt

:50:15. > :50:18.travelling a much further distance and in the end it came down to the

:50:19. > :50:23.final straight and match was starting to tire there. Between the

:50:24. > :50:26.first on the second ride, how much will might have changed his tactics

:50:27. > :50:31.after what happened in the first was Mike obviously you alternate between

:50:32. > :50:36.riding like the first and second man so you have to take the lead in the

:50:37. > :50:40.first right but you have to keep changing and adapting what you do.

:50:41. > :50:45.You will have realised, looking back at the video that he needed more

:50:46. > :50:49.height and he tried but Phillip did a great job. Now we have got a medal

:50:50. > :50:58.ceremony, gold for Britain with Laura Trott.

:50:59. > :51:01.COMMENTATOR: Laurie Berthon is receiving her bronze medal, the

:51:02. > :51:06.French scratch race champion, she led early on in the omnium

:51:07. > :51:14.competition but was overtaken in the latter stages. Gillian Carlton from

:51:15. > :51:23.Canada with the silver medal. 18 pretty bronze medallist. -- a team

:51:24. > :51:25.bronze medallist. Representing Great Britain, Laura Trott!

:51:26. > :51:39.APPLAUSE. Another win for Laura Trott to

:51:40. > :51:43.delight the home crowd. Another leader's jersey and a gold medal

:51:44. > :51:47.being placed over her head by Brian Cookson, the new president of the

:51:48. > :51:54.UCI, not long in the job having taken over from Pat McQuaid. Just a

:51:55. > :51:58.few weeks into his job and a lot of work to be done but certainly worth

:51:59. > :52:02.it. He is looking forward to it and he has worked with Laura,

:52:03. > :52:09.extraordinary in the final lap, the opening event of this omnium, very

:52:10. > :52:14.strong and quick and she was sixth but that put her on the back foot.

:52:15. > :52:21.She really did have to pull the events out of the bag. She won the

:52:22. > :52:28.last two so that shows how she just pulled through this event.

:52:29. > :53:16.APPLAUSE. she is the one that many people in

:53:17. > :53:20.the crowd had come to see. Talking to people on the concourse ahead of

:53:21. > :53:28.this afternoon's final session of this track World Cup. And Laura

:53:29. > :53:31.Trott delivers once again. The Allenby champion in the women's

:53:32. > :53:36.omnium, former world champion as well in this event and the World Cup

:53:37. > :53:40.winner from the home crowd's point of view getting the afternoon off to

:53:41. > :53:45.a great start. And there is the picture you will see on the front of

:53:46. > :53:48.the newspapers tomorrow. But you know, when Laura Trott is within

:53:49. > :53:53.shouting distance of the victory coming into the final event, that it

:53:54. > :53:58.is really playing into her hands because that is her strongest event,

:53:59. > :54:04.the one she finishes with. It is but also with Laura, she absolutely

:54:05. > :54:21.protests losing. She hates it! -- she detests losing. She has won the

:54:22. > :54:25.events before and the European Championships were difficult but she

:54:26. > :54:28.is an eight now. She was running across the inside of the track, and

:54:29. > :54:33.then she was rushing straight to talk to us and he is down with Jill

:54:34. > :54:37.Douglas. Congratulations, a real crowd pleaser. That is what the

:54:38. > :54:41.people came to see, and much did you enjoy it in front of the home

:54:42. > :54:46.crowd? The crowd were just amazing, if it was not for them, I would not

:54:47. > :54:50.have won it. I was so many points behind, I had to risk it, I had no

:54:51. > :54:56.choice and they were driving me on the whole way so it was amazing. You

:54:57. > :55:01.have won this omnium in a different way this time, to win the bunch race

:55:02. > :55:04.was very special and it shifted things. Normally things pick up in

:55:05. > :55:10.the final event. Take us through the scratch race because it was bowled.

:55:11. > :55:15.Going into it I was six points behind Gillian Carlton so I did not

:55:16. > :55:22.have a choice, I couldn't sue and lots of people... I know Gillian can

:55:23. > :55:25.spread very well so the Polish girl rode away and it looked like the

:55:26. > :55:29.Spanish girl was going to go and then everybody rolled off, and then

:55:30. > :55:32.I thought it was my chance and I thought if I did not make it, at

:55:33. > :55:39.least I tried so that is what my coach said so I had to try to win

:55:40. > :55:47.the race. If you stay on the bike unlike the Europeans, usually when,

:55:48. > :55:50.what happened? I did not ride it my best, I was taking a lottery by

:55:51. > :55:54.riding at the back and I did not have the legs at the end. My coach

:55:55. > :55:57.said I should have left a gap but it is easy for them when they can see

:55:58. > :56:04.it on the side when I am on the track, I don't know what to do! And

:56:05. > :56:10.I sat on her wheel as she beat me. Two gold medals, not bad at all? No,

:56:11. > :56:16.the crowd have been amazing. Thank you very much. Cheers.

:56:17. > :56:23.JONATHAN EDWARDS: I love about Laura, this mix of competitiveness

:56:24. > :56:26.and a happy-go-lucky attitude. It almost does not make sense, you look

:56:27. > :56:33.at her and think it is Laura, she is a slight pretty female but she is so

:56:34. > :56:39.competitive and she will push through anything. Any difficulty as

:56:40. > :56:45.you will still come out smiling. The next round, women's keirin featuring

:56:46. > :56:48.Becky James. COMMENTATOR: There is Becky James

:56:49. > :56:53.with the rainbow bans on. They call this the second round on but it is

:56:54. > :56:56.basically the semifinal. That is what we are watching, the two heats

:56:57. > :57:01.and the first three riders go through to the final and the others

:57:02. > :57:05.go through to the final for the minor placings. There is Becky James

:57:06. > :57:10.who is the world champion she won in Minsk back in March. A good field as

:57:11. > :57:21.you would expect for this stage of the competition. A really strong

:57:22. > :57:29.line-up. The Chinese athlete who qualified by the repechage. The Hong

:57:30. > :57:35.Kong athlete to loss to Kristina Vogel, Anna Meares from Australia,

:57:36. > :57:44.there is Becky James all in white and on the inside, the Russian

:57:45. > :57:51.athlete. For casual observers, Rob, can you observe the format for the

:57:52. > :58:07.keirin? A race over eight laps and two kilometres and then the riders

:58:08. > :58:16.right behind the durney. What is fighting because the official

:58:17. > :58:24.clamp-down -- what's -- much fewer episodes of fighting. Lots of

:58:25. > :58:28.episodes of elbows out before. They follow the durney and he gradually

:58:29. > :58:35.ramps up the speed. And then he will pull out down the back straight with

:58:36. > :58:39.2.5 laps to go and then it used to be a free role but now it is a bit

:58:40. > :58:43.dumbed down but if there will be crashes on the track, generally the

:58:44. > :58:52.keirin is the place to come and see it. Still need nerves of steel. The

:58:53. > :59:01.Malaysian athlete is right behind the durney. And in second place on

:59:02. > :59:04.the track is the Russian rider, followed by Becky James and Anna

:59:05. > :59:10.Meares on her wheel, unfamiliar colours for many viewers for Anna

:59:11. > :59:18.Meares and the Chinese rider bringing up the rear behind the Hong

:59:19. > :59:23.Kong rider. She won a bronze in the Olympics in the keirin, and a race

:59:24. > :59:33.won by Victoria Pendleton. We are back with the camera on the back of

:59:34. > :59:38.the durney right on track centre. The speed is slowly increasing as

:59:39. > :59:45.the laps go by before the durney bike disappears off the outside of

:59:46. > :59:50.the track. The speed will gradually creep up over the next half a lap

:59:51. > :59:54.also and they will let these riders battle it out. Always an exciting

:59:55. > :59:57.race, Becky James has got herself in a good position, she is leaving a

:59:58. > :00:01.bit of a gap in front of her allowing her some room to move up to

:00:02. > :00:05.the rider in front within the slipstream. It is a lot harder for

:00:06. > :00:12.the riders to come from behind, Anna Meares is the danger rider, I think.

:00:13. > :00:20.Lot harder for her to block Becky James in because she has allowed

:00:21. > :00:23.that gap in front of her. Becky James now makes a move in the

:00:24. > :00:27.rainbow jersey of world champion and there is a bit of clear air behind

:00:28. > :00:33.her as Mustapha tries to follow and then we have the Russian athlete

:00:34. > :00:38.behind her and going round the outside... Anna Meares is boxed in

:00:39. > :00:42.on the inside, there was nowhere for Anna Meares to go unless you can

:00:43. > :00:48.squeeze their way through, here comes Becky James open towards the

:00:49. > :00:55.line pushed all the way at the end, that was close and Becky James of

:00:56. > :01:01.towards the front and as they came towards the line, here it is. As

:01:02. > :01:12.they crossed the line, Becky James first over the line.

:01:13. > :01:16.Becky took control. You often take away the chance of getting blocked

:01:17. > :01:21.in as the other riders did, Anna Meares Op blocked. You take control

:01:22. > :01:29.but you do have to have the strength. She seems to have ridden

:01:30. > :01:33.herself through this weekend. We know China are on great form.

:01:34. > :01:41.Becky James has ridden strongly as well. The Malaysia rider, 24 years

:01:42. > :01:47.old, she pips Anna Meares for third place. She did not ride the sprint

:01:48. > :01:56.round. Neither did the Russian rider. They are coming a lot fresher

:01:57. > :02:00.into the event. Anna Meares has had such a long

:02:01. > :02:05.break from racing, this is her first outing this weekend and when you

:02:06. > :02:09.look at it like that, she will be very happy she is in the mix already

:02:10. > :02:14.because we know and she knows and Becky James knows there will be a

:02:15. > :02:20.lot more to come from Anna Meares as she gets into her stride. She will

:02:21. > :02:24.be happy, dipping her toe that into it.

:02:25. > :02:31.You have to talk about her because she knows the event inside out. She

:02:32. > :02:37.certainly is on an upward slope with her form. This is so early in the

:02:38. > :02:41.season. The action comes thick and fast. The second semifinal, the

:02:42. > :02:55.second round matchup. Ukraine on the inside. Russia, the

:02:56. > :03:05.European champion in a team sprint this year. Kristina Vogel, France,

:03:06. > :03:15.Stefanie Morton from Austria. And Spain in the red. On the inside,

:03:16. > :03:24.from the Ukraine. They wait now for the durney bike. And then they will

:03:25. > :03:31.be under way. The German is dropping down near the back. The second to

:03:32. > :03:38.last rider. She is the rider on form. She is the one they will be

:03:39. > :03:59.looking out for. She is the quickest one out there.

:04:00. > :04:12.A slight problem. The durney bike. He ran out of the Nana is! Is he out

:04:13. > :04:19.of fuel? They can be a bit temperamental. The reason they use

:04:20. > :04:25.these over a standard twist and go scooter is they are extremely

:04:26. > :04:30.smooth. They have a small motor, the rider pedals as well which increases

:04:31. > :04:36.a bit of speed along with the accelerator, a finger shifter. It is

:04:37. > :04:42.like a small brake lever. It allows the rider to pace at a smooth

:04:43. > :04:49.delivery. It is a lot safer for the riders. They are fairly old school.

:04:50. > :04:51.And very odd looking. It's a cross between a motorbike and

:04:52. > :05:04.a lawn mower! Did he forget to put the fuel on? Or

:05:05. > :05:12.has it run out? The blockage of some sort. Furrowed brow for the

:05:13. > :05:18.organisers. It is number seven. Resume agree he has at least another

:05:19. > :05:25.six! He will be reappearing soon with another bike. The riders are

:05:26. > :05:37.rolling around the bottom of the track. It won't be too long before

:05:38. > :05:43.we are back and can have the race. Frustrating, Hamid Times has that

:05:44. > :05:47.happened to you? A couple of times, unknown bike problems and you have

:05:48. > :05:57.to line up again, your heart is pounding. -- how many times has that

:05:58. > :06:13.happened to you? We have a green durney. I am a fan of the green

:06:14. > :06:21.durney. It must be running on unleaded! Hopefully he has a full

:06:22. > :07:04.tank. Let's look again at the start list.

:07:05. > :07:17.Kristina Vogel is an Olympic champion in team sprint. The riders

:07:18. > :07:22.settle down once again. They wait for our friend on his little

:07:23. > :07:28.motorbike. I boat-macro a durney race on a

:07:29. > :07:32.Formula one track, we all had one each and it chucked down with rain

:07:33. > :07:39.and the water come straight off the front tyre onto the spark plug. We

:07:40. > :07:44.ended up with two. It was catastrophic.

:07:45. > :08:01.We are under way again now. 29 kilometres an hour, he goes

:08:02. > :08:07.faster and faster slowly increasing the speed before disappearing off

:08:08. > :08:13.the track. The riders settle down into an order. They cannot overtake

:08:14. > :08:49.the bike until it comes off the track.

:08:50. > :09:17.Becky James already through to the final.

:09:18. > :09:57.The races on! Sandie Clair not keen to put the hammer down to early.

:09:58. > :10:04.Spain in second. Stefanie Morton leading the way. Kristina Vogel on

:10:05. > :10:27.how wheel. Everybody else knows the German is a real danger.

:10:28. > :10:41.A nice safe sprint on the last lap. It was a good ride. She took

:10:42. > :10:46.control, she had the height. Sandie Clair did a good ride as well in

:10:47. > :10:50.third. She took the lead and waited for a couple of riders and then got

:10:51. > :10:56.in the slipstream and was able to defend the position all the way

:10:57. > :11:05.across the line. It was comfortable in the end for Stefanie Morton and

:11:06. > :11:11.Kristina Vogel. Relatively untroubled. Morton was well aware of

:11:12. > :11:16.the position she was in and the lack of a threat towards the line. A

:11:17. > :11:22.smooth progression through to the final.

:11:23. > :11:32.The final is coming up in an hour. Becky James looking in the mix for

:11:33. > :11:39.the medals. Absolutely. Taking keirin on, controlling the speed is

:11:40. > :11:45.a fail-safe method. It is what I did in the Olympics just to be sure. You

:11:46. > :11:50.can judge the speed and make sure you get through safe and sound. In

:11:51. > :11:56.the final Mustafina from Malaysia did a good job of holding everybody

:11:57. > :12:04.on her hip and not letting anyone through. She was content Becky was

:12:05. > :12:10.there, she trapped Anna Meares and cruise through. It was quite a canny

:12:11. > :12:17.ride. For people watching at home, the durney whizzing around. What is

:12:18. > :12:28.the first -- point of the first five laps. They are biding up through

:12:29. > :12:32.massive gears. The bike lets them and catapulted them off at high

:12:33. > :12:38.speed. It gives you the ability to do much more than by yourself. It

:12:39. > :12:43.keeps the race moving as well and makes it safer. Becky James safely

:12:44. > :12:53.through. Tactical, clinical, great job. This is the women's points

:12:54. > :13:01.race. We will ignore that. Kristina Vogel won the sprint. Is she the

:13:02. > :13:05.main rival? I think so. You saw the German and Australia going through

:13:06. > :13:15.with France. There was a clear divide. Kristina Vogel looked

:13:16. > :13:23.comfortable, she knew she had done enough, as did Morton. How would you

:13:24. > :13:29.think that he should ride? Is there an obvious tactical part? It is

:13:30. > :13:36.difficult to say. Everyone expects her to take it on. Depending on

:13:37. > :13:41.where you draw, who wants to take the lead in the line-up. It can

:13:42. > :13:46.change tactics. She will be willing to take it on early. You have to be

:13:47. > :13:52.able to read what's going on around you. Being on the second wheel is a

:13:53. > :13:59.great ride. It can give you a slipstream and an easy package to

:14:00. > :14:04.win. We will have to wait and see. Anticipation, the race coming up in

:14:05. > :14:11.an hour. Looking back now to Friday, team pursuit and a change of format

:14:12. > :14:23.from three riders to four riders. We have behind-the-scenes access.

:14:24. > :14:34.Five, four, three, two, one. Go! An extra rider and another kilometre

:14:35. > :14:40.means the women's team pursuit now mirrors the men's event reflecting

:14:41. > :14:44.the possession -- the track race. It does present teams with new

:14:45. > :14:51.technical challenges. Getting the changes right was difficult. You go

:14:52. > :15:00.above the blue line and you have to go a lot higher because there are

:15:01. > :15:05.three people changing for, not to. You are doing the same effort to get

:15:06. > :15:12.the team at a speed but there 15 laps on the board, not 11.

:15:13. > :15:20.When you feel like you do at the end of the race, you have got another

:15:21. > :15:24.person to help you along, you get a bit of extra rest. The changes mean

:15:25. > :15:28.more opportunities for endurance riders, not every nation has the

:15:29. > :15:33.talent ready to step up but ultimately it is the only way for

:15:34. > :15:37.the sport to move forward. Are likely to be a close battle between

:15:38. > :15:41.the riders so they push themselves. They all know they need another

:15:42. > :15:44.rider so if they have got an off day or they need to do something

:15:45. > :15:50.specific for themselves, the team will still run but they need to be

:15:51. > :15:57.pushed as well. It is an exciting time for us for having the options

:15:58. > :16:01.to change the team around. You have got so many other girls pushing us

:16:02. > :16:10.on, snapping at our heels wanting that place. Good one, girls, good

:16:11. > :16:16.effort. The European Championships are big, it is part of our work

:16:17. > :16:19.through process. The coaches' role includes managing personalities

:16:20. > :16:22.within the team and harnessing their obvious talent and that job falls to

:16:23. > :16:33.former world champion, Chris Newton. It is healthy to give

:16:34. > :16:35.former world champion, Chris Newton. receive it. It keeps everything

:16:36. > :16:36.healthy -- to give banter, you can have a dig every now and then,

:16:37. > :16:46.especially when they are tired! Chris winds me up constantly, when I

:16:47. > :16:49.crashed in the European champions, talk about hit a girl when she is

:16:50. > :16:55.down, telling me that I smell, so I told him I will get him back! He

:16:56. > :17:01.gives us a lot of banter but we give it back as well! This is a

:17:02. > :17:06.close-knit team, the mutual respect and an easy rapport. I don't shut

:17:07. > :17:10.up, I don't know if that is a good thing or not but people think it is

:17:11. > :17:14.quite nice if somebody is just chatting all the time so I guess

:17:15. > :17:23.that is me! Me and Laura are probably the loudest and most ugly

:17:24. > :17:32.or giggly but then we are the journey Kyles of the Jeremy Kyles.

:17:33. > :17:44.They always say I'm the serious one! I am the one that will bespeaks

:17:45. > :17:51.my mind the most to the coach. Nothing gets past Joanna and you

:17:52. > :17:55.have to got to be on your toes. I guess I am the baby of the group and

:17:56. > :18:00.I get looked after which is quite nice in some ways. In their first

:18:01. > :18:03.senior efforts since the changes, the British team broke the world

:18:04. > :18:08.record twice on their way to gold at the European Championships in

:18:09. > :18:12.Holland last month. I wanted to try different line-ups and move the team

:18:13. > :18:16.around so it was pleasing. I wasn't thinking of the overall results,

:18:17. > :18:22.trying to see some new faces in the team pursuit. The training recently

:18:23. > :18:26.we have already seen differences in our times. I think it will be faster

:18:27. > :18:31.than what we can imagine at the moment. We have at our sights fixed

:18:32. > :18:38.on Rio already, our discussions are based on the fact that in three

:18:39. > :18:44.years time, when we get to Rio... I think we can go faster than in

:18:45. > :18:52.London. That is quite a statement. Yes.

:18:53. > :18:59.JONATHAN EDWARDS: I should qualify that Laura Trott's comments that she

:19:00. > :19:01.smiled was because she could not shower because she had grazes, this

:19:02. > :19:12.is what happened in the final. COMMENTATOR: Here we go. The race

:19:13. > :19:17.for the World Cup gold in the women's team pursuit. The world led

:19:18. > :19:23.the champions, great written against Canada and away we go. Laura Trott

:19:24. > :19:37.leads off for Great Britain. Joanna Rowsell bringing up the rear

:19:38. > :19:40.at the end, she is wearing a different outfit because she was not

:19:41. > :19:44.riding when they won the World Championship earlier in the year.

:19:45. > :19:50.But if this goes to form, this should be great written's race to

:19:51. > :20:01.lose. Chris Newton, the former world champion on the track. Britain out

:20:02. > :20:10.into a sizeable early lead here. 1.2 seconds already, that is cracking.

:20:11. > :20:15.The temperature will be a bit hotter in here this evening, there will be

:20:16. > :20:24.a good chance that the world record will be broken again. The Magic

:20:25. > :20:41.Numbers, they are looking to see if they can dip inside out.

:20:42. > :20:50.Joanna Rowsell on the front now, she has got a great engine and real

:20:51. > :21:03.power, she sits on the front with Laura Trott right on her wheel.

:21:04. > :21:12.The gap at just over 1.75 seconds. Nice when the coach has got a smile

:21:13. > :21:16.on his face. You know things are going well then! When you look how

:21:17. > :21:21.closely they ride together, in so wonderful and it works well but you

:21:22. > :21:28.are never more than a split-second away from ending up in a heap on the

:21:29. > :21:38.floor. Great Britain are absolutely flying here. Roared on by the crowd.

:21:39. > :21:44.They are inside the time they did this morning. It was a 1.14.7, they

:21:45. > :21:49.are inside world-record pace here. Just beyond the halfway mark here.

:21:50. > :21:52.Seven laps to go. And it does not look like it will be about who will

:21:53. > :21:59.win this, it looks like about what the time will be. This could help

:22:00. > :22:02.them as they catch Canada in the closing quarters of this race but

:22:03. > :22:06.when you catch the team ahead of you, you get a slight advantage

:22:07. > :22:11.because the Canadians will be disturbing the air and making

:22:12. > :22:15.Britain's job even easier. Allowing them to come home for an extremely

:22:16. > :22:21.fast finish. Joanna Rowsell is driving up the front right now. Five

:22:22. > :22:27.laps to go, we'll get our to indicator to see what sort of place

:22:28. > :22:33.they are on the next time they go over the line. They were at 3.19.3

:22:34. > :22:41.earlier an in the day. Four laps to go, three quarters of the way there.

:22:42. > :22:45.3.16.632, miles inside the world record, we are watching special

:22:46. > :22:52.here. -- watching something special here.

:22:53. > :22:58.They are getting a good catch here from Canada. I bet they could even

:22:59. > :23:10.catch them by the end of the race. Britain chase down Canada with two

:23:11. > :23:15.laps to go, the world record surely will go here by a considerable

:23:16. > :23:20.margin for the second time in the space of just a few hours. Inside

:23:21. > :23:29.the velodrome in Manchester. As they take the Bell, you can hardly hear

:23:30. > :23:33.yourself think. Halfway round the final lap, Joanna Rowsell leads the

:23:34. > :23:40.chase, they were not quite make the cats but it doesn't matter, it is

:23:41. > :23:48.not about that, it is about the time and a 4.19.604, a new world record,

:23:49. > :23:53.superb cycling from Britain's women in the team pursuit, another record

:23:54. > :24:00.for Laura Trott, Elinor Barker, Dani King and four Joanna Rowsell! That

:24:01. > :24:03.time would be a lot of nation's men's team pursuit times, that is

:24:04. > :24:11.extremely impressive. What an amazing ride.

:24:12. > :24:20.Edger shows you what the crowd does. 4.19.604, the winning time and a

:24:21. > :24:30.reminder that the previous world record was at 4.23, 910. And they

:24:31. > :24:35.took enormous chunks off their previous world record with that time

:24:36. > :24:39.earlier on today. How do you take over four microseconds off? Not four

:24:40. > :24:53.tenths of a second, four seconds! Unbelievable. -- four seconds off.

:24:54. > :24:56.The crowd up on their feet. They have stunned their authority on this

:24:57. > :25:01.event for the next few years. It will be amazing if any countries

:25:02. > :25:09.catch them by Rio. It has been a change to the usual format, hasn't

:25:10. > :25:14.it? Team GB has had several teams like this always capable of getting

:25:15. > :25:17.up there and performing. You can't beat a favourite, you can feel the

:25:18. > :25:25.expectation and everybody thought they would win but you still got to

:25:26. > :25:28.go out there and do it. Smiles all round, what a miraculous performance

:25:29. > :25:35.that was, something very special for this Manchester crowd, taking seven

:25:36. > :25:39.seconds off the world record you set in Apeldoorn. It feels amazing. We

:25:40. > :25:42.knew it was going to go because it is quite a slow track in Apeldoorn

:25:43. > :25:47.but we did not think it would go by that much. It really came together

:25:48. > :25:51.in the final. It certainly did and to back up such a fantastic ride in

:25:52. > :25:55.qualifying and then riding so much quicker in the final, it is all

:25:56. > :26:01.coming right at the right time for you girls. It really is and we were

:26:02. > :26:07.so lucky that we watched the boys' race, and it was such a good morale

:26:08. > :26:11.boost. They absolutely killed it so it was great to follow that. Pretty

:26:12. > :26:17.much up there with the men's qualifying pursuit, how far do you

:26:18. > :26:24.think this team can go? I do not know but we are pretty fast. Joanna,

:26:25. > :26:29.good to see you back on the bike after your crash. It is great to be

:26:30. > :26:32.back, we all live and die for the team pursuit are great to have the

:26:33. > :26:35.team crowd and with the new event being four kilometres, four minutes,

:26:36. > :26:39.great to have a change. I wasn't too sure at first that it is great to be

:26:40. > :26:43.able to go out and break world records and raise the bar and you

:26:44. > :26:47.will see that record go lower and lower over the next few years. It is

:26:48. > :26:50.really exciting to think where we can therefore Rio. Christian keep

:26:51. > :26:54.talking about that and what you will need to do to win the gold medal but

:26:55. > :27:00.for this sort of performance, we cannot see any other nation catching

:27:01. > :27:07.you up. There is no New Zealand team at here, but Australia have a young

:27:08. > :27:10.team and there is a good US team, so we are not getting complacent. We

:27:11. > :27:15.are pushing our own boundaries and that is exciting for us, to try to

:27:16. > :27:17.break our own records. The rest of the world will really grow into this

:27:18. > :27:22.event in the next few years. When they'll find the fourth girl capable

:27:23. > :27:29.of doing this, it will really improve. Big smiles and Chris Newton

:27:30. > :27:36.had a great smile on his face after two laps! Everybody cheering, we did

:27:37. > :27:41.not want that to end. We will let you get off, a busy weekend. Two

:27:42. > :27:47.more days of this! What about Dani King in the scratch race? I will be

:27:48. > :27:52.first on the line if she wins. Well done.

:27:53. > :27:54.JONATHAN EDWARDS: That was impressive, Dani King getting

:27:55. > :28:00.straight back on her bike to do the scratch race. The three of them were

:28:01. > :28:05.world beaters, unbeatable and they have transferred that to the extra

:28:06. > :28:09.woman coming in. It is incredible. A great thing for the sport to have a

:28:10. > :28:15.distance for the men's and the women's event. There was no reason

:28:16. > :28:20.why they could not do the same distance and as Joanna said, at

:28:21. > :28:23.first she was unsure but it has been really exciting. It keeps it fresh

:28:24. > :28:28.and these girls are used to breaking world records, it comes with the

:28:29. > :28:32.territory. They know they are the team that everybody is watching and

:28:33. > :28:35.they have got so much to offer, a range of personalities, they are all

:28:36. > :28:40.very talented and motivated, very bright individuals so I think the

:28:41. > :28:44.sky is the limit. The men had better watch out, that is what I am

:28:45. > :28:53.saying! You think they will go faster with the World Championships

:28:54. > :28:56.coming up in march in Cali. It is a prime opportunity to break the world

:28:57. > :29:01.record once again but you have to think about this, they took seven

:29:02. > :29:05.seconds off the European time, that is like half a lap at speed, it is

:29:06. > :29:09.absolutely phenomenal. And a new event tends to come down in time in

:29:10. > :29:13.very big chunks because it is so new. They will find a base and they

:29:14. > :29:18.will stabilise, they will not break a record every time but I am sure

:29:19. > :29:23.that Chris Newton has a plan for the future and it will be fast. Also

:29:24. > :29:27.resilience in that team, Katie Archibald cycling for a Scottish

:29:28. > :29:31.trade team who was in the world record-breaking team in the

:29:32. > :29:34.Europeans. Absolutely, they have got the strength and depth. They are not

:29:35. > :29:38.just relying on four riders, they have got other girls who can fit

:29:39. > :29:42.into that thing, they know how it works and they can mix them in and

:29:43. > :29:45.out. Britain is in a fantastic place for the women's team pursuit because

:29:46. > :29:51.they have the strength and depth that not many nations have and we

:29:52. > :29:56.need to capitalise on that. Also on Friday night, the men's team spread

:29:57. > :30:01.and the absence of the retired Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny now is the main

:30:02. > :30:05.man. We have got a good team now. It is not like we have fallen to bits,

:30:06. > :30:10.after losing Chris we have trouble when Chris was in the team as well,

:30:11. > :30:13.disqualified in Melbourne as well so it was not always plain sailing but

:30:14. > :30:21.I think it does not really matter whether we are racing with Chris or

:30:22. > :30:27.Kian Emadi, or whoever, it has always been a weakness of hours and

:30:28. > :30:30.considering that we are Olympic champions in Beijing and London and

:30:31. > :30:34.we have not won anything in between and we didn't win anything for

:30:35. > :30:39.several years beforehand, we have been elevate champions twice in that

:30:40. > :30:43.time and for whatever reason, we have never had it when it matters at

:30:44. > :30:48.the World Championships as I have been on the podium for team sprint

:30:49. > :30:51.so many times and I don't want to be anywhere else, we do not want any

:30:52. > :30:55.more scrap metal, we have got a load of that.

:30:56. > :31:01.Scrap metal! Is that how you felt? No!

:31:02. > :31:09.Jason Kenny is quite bubbly and happy because he can be a bit dour.

:31:10. > :31:14.Maybe, he takes it very seriously. He has got a dry sense of humour,

:31:15. > :31:18.that is how he is. And on race day you see a different aspect of

:31:19. > :31:22.somebody's personality when they are focused. I think he has taken it in

:31:23. > :31:33.his stride. He seems to have made sense of it in his mind. Here is

:31:34. > :31:39.Jason Kenny in the scrap metal race. Great Britain racing for bronze

:31:40. > :31:48.against New Zealand. The British team are making a change for the

:31:49. > :31:59.final with Matt Crampton coming in. Yes, I spoke to the coach. They are

:32:00. > :32:03.testing. They were testing different gears and again they are testing

:32:04. > :32:09.with Matt. Matt is still pretty young. With the likes of Jason Kenny

:32:10. > :32:14.and Chris Hoy it was hard for him to shine through although he did have a

:32:15. > :32:24.few amazing events. Especially in the keirin. He once through this...

:32:25. > :32:29.In the women's team pursuit, the British team has dominated and

:32:30. > :32:35.carried a domination through. It has been anything but that in the

:32:36. > :32:40.team sprint. It has been the Olympics and last year, that is the

:32:41. > :32:44.time Britain put it together. Yes, it is tough.

:32:45. > :32:50.There is a lack of depth to be honest. On the injuries side they

:32:51. > :32:55.have riders coming through and on the sprint side but getting the

:32:56. > :33:06.cream of the crop coming through is tough.

:33:07. > :33:16.Philip is doing a great job. He blew me away at the Olympics, phenomenal

:33:17. > :33:22.ride. He is so young. Jason Kenny is fantastic, and amazing rider. The

:33:23. > :33:27.key is finding someone to replace Chris. We all get older and have to

:33:28. > :33:35.move on to other things. The coaches are amazing. I have no doubt they

:33:36. > :33:41.will fine tune someone to fill Chris is shoes.

:33:42. > :33:46.New Zealand might take some building.

:33:47. > :34:07.New Zealand getting stretched out a little bit. New Zealand really are

:34:08. > :34:29.getting stretched out. How will Great Britain fair? It is

:34:30. > :34:35.looking good. Nearly half a second up. Can Great Britain bring it home

:34:36. > :34:45.with Matt Crampton up towards the line. Yes, Great Britain take the

:34:46. > :34:55.bronze medal. Matt Crampton coming into the final did the job. The trio

:34:56. > :34:57.get on the podium. That was close. It was too close for comfort.

:34:58. > :35:06.Great Britain... We talked about a blink of the eye.

:35:07. > :35:25.It wasn't far off it. The total time was slightly down on

:35:26. > :35:29.qualifying. What about New Zealand on the first

:35:30. > :35:34.lap? Yeah, a lot of that comes down to

:35:35. > :35:43.gearing. Rider one is on an easier gear than two and three. Rider one

:35:44. > :35:45.will be able to pull away. Rider to and three have a height advantage on

:35:46. > :35:56.the track. Speak you Stepanek the same as

:35:57. > :36:04.Jason. They are going along the distance. It is harder for them to

:36:05. > :36:11.get off the line. Good, cramped and to bring it home. He's been around

:36:12. > :36:17.quite a time. He has missed out on some key things like the Olympic

:36:18. > :36:22.Games. It has been a shame. He has been around at the wrong time.

:36:23. > :36:29.Hopefully over the next three years he will prove himself and go to Rio.

:36:30. > :36:34.That will be his goal. A lot of it is psychological. When you have

:36:35. > :36:39.Chris and Jason there and not you stop trying but it makes it

:36:40. > :36:50.difficult. Russia have their work cut out

:36:51. > :37:48.against Germany. Who has the advantage, it is Germany

:37:49. > :37:55.but not by much. The fight is on. Robert Forstemann for Germany. He is

:37:56. > :38:06.trying to secure the gold medal. And he has. Robert Forstemann delivered

:38:07. > :38:12.on the final lap in Germany. The world and European champions reigns

:38:13. > :38:20.supreme again. Robert Forstemann gave them the edge. They were pretty

:38:21. > :38:32.consistent. Robert Forstemann bring it home for the team. Another medal

:38:33. > :38:40.for the Germans. They are amazing. They have been real form in the last

:38:41. > :38:46.few years. If the British squad dominate, the men and women in team

:38:47. > :38:53.pursuit, ditto Germany in the team sprint. They really have got their

:38:54. > :39:03.act together. Amazing sprinters coming through. Look at the size of

:39:04. > :39:10.the legs. He is a big guy. Huge! Great ride from thunder thighs

:39:11. > :39:19.Robert Forstemann! A good final between Germany and Russia.

:39:20. > :39:30.Congratulations, winning the bronze race. It was all right today. I

:39:31. > :39:42.wanted to do put -- a bit quicker. I did my best. I think as a team we

:39:43. > :39:48.have done a good time. The Germans are very much out there in front in

:39:49. > :39:54.the men and women, what are they doing that gives them the advantage?

:39:55. > :40:02.I am not sure. They are very quick. They must train very hard. Jason,

:40:03. > :40:08.you are laughing because you train just as hard. They are leading the

:40:09. > :40:13.world. Yes, head and shoulders. If we knew what they were doing, we

:40:14. > :40:20.would be doing the same. We know we have work to do. We know what we

:40:21. > :40:25.have to do, we have two gay quicker, simple as that. We did a good ride.

:40:26. > :40:33.Two good times today, and different combinations. We just have to

:40:34. > :40:37.continue to progress. And in Olympic years the British team often come

:40:38. > :40:42.good. It is the Germans in the interim and the French seem to be

:40:43. > :40:48.doing World Championships. I don't know why that is. We do not train

:40:49. > :40:53.less. We train hard all the time. It is depressing that we do not win

:40:54. > :40:58.more. In the team event you need all three people. Phil has done a really

:40:59. > :41:08.good ride. We all want to go quicker. So, it's a case of getting

:41:09. > :41:15.us all at a level we are happy with. Matt, a big opportunity for you

:41:16. > :41:25.tonight. Yes, I did not know why was riding until 4:30pm. Yes, it was

:41:26. > :41:28.great to have another opportunity. And the competition for the man

:41:29. > :41:32.three position, competition throughout the team about it makes

:41:33. > :41:40.for improved performance going forward. Definitely, you need a

:41:41. > :41:44.competition to pursue on. It is a strong team at the moment. You have

:41:45. > :41:49.to grasp the opportunities. Thank you very much, guys.

:41:50. > :41:54.Matt Crampton going for bronze in the individual sprint shortly. The

:41:55. > :41:58.sun has come out. An interesting statistic, the way the men's team

:41:59. > :42:04.get it right for the Olympics but lose out to German and French ever

:42:05. > :42:10.asked. If we have to choose between which one to win, we know which one

:42:11. > :42:13.it is. It is difficult to maintain a performance at the highest level in

:42:14. > :42:20.the team sprint and hit the individual sprint and the keirin

:42:21. > :42:26.with the same riders. Chris and Jason are great in their own right.

:42:27. > :42:32.They do not want to lose out to... It has been tough. It will take a

:42:33. > :42:40.while for them to work it out. Matt has big shoes to fill. Let's head

:42:41. > :42:44.out, the first of the bronze medal racing.

:42:45. > :42:51.Matt Crampton is introduced to the crowd. It is a stifling hot

:42:52. > :42:56.velodrome in Manchester. Shane Perkins by the railings, the

:42:57. > :43:02.Commonwealth sprint champion who won the title in Delhi in 2010. Crampton

:43:03. > :43:09.will lead out. The race for bronze in the men's match sprint. The best

:43:10. > :43:17.of three. The same sort of format. Three laps of the track. Perkins

:43:18. > :43:21.qualified in fifth place this morning and 10th place for Crampton.

:43:22. > :43:30.Crampton is a bit slower top end from the time trial. We know

:43:31. > :43:35.tactically he can ride well. I spoke to the coaching staff and he has

:43:36. > :43:41.been working hard on man one. He is desperate to make the 18. I am

:43:42. > :43:48.wondering if that will have an effect because working out of the

:43:49. > :43:54.gate, getting speed up two top speed as quick as you can can affect your

:43:55. > :44:01.top end sprint. Crampton is up against a former world keirin

:44:02. > :44:08.champion. Look at Shane Perkins! Crampton digging deep, trying to

:44:09. > :44:13.hang onto the lead. It is so tight coming up to the line. Shane Perkins

:44:14. > :44:21.takes the opening ride in the race for bronze. That was desperate for

:44:22. > :44:30.Crampton. Making Perkins come around him and get alongside. He just ran

:44:31. > :44:38.out of gas in the last few pedals strokes. It is a fine line when you

:44:39. > :44:43.are up against a rider as good as Perkins. So strong, so tactically

:44:44. > :44:47.aware, a rider who is never intimidated on the track. Perkins

:44:48. > :44:52.wins the first sprint. So, the initiative in the race for

:44:53. > :44:58.bronze used to the Australian as we await the first race in the gold

:44:59. > :45:03.medal event. And there is Robert Forstemann from Germany and nearest

:45:04. > :45:13.the camera, Philip from Trinidad and Tobago. Philip at 22 is a promising

:45:14. > :45:19.rider on the world scene. He did so well in London and the Olympic Games

:45:20. > :45:23.with fourth place in the sprint and nearly made it into the keirin final

:45:24. > :45:31.as well. He was seventh in the end. Making doubly sure the toe straps

:45:32. > :45:37.are tightly secured. Lots of pushing and pulling on the pedals,

:45:38. > :45:40.especially with these riders and with legs like Forstemann, every

:45:41. > :45:44.time he gets on the track, we mention him at every event that you

:45:45. > :45:48.cannot ignore it, the legs he has on him. They are well and truly

:45:49. > :45:53.strapped in. The only problem then is that if they crash, the feet off

:45:54. > :45:58.and do not come out and you hope you do not get a twisted knee, broken

:45:59. > :46:05.knee. Had a great series, Forstemann, here, he beat his

:46:06. > :46:10.compatriot Max Levy and then Denis Dmitriev in the quarters and Perkins

:46:11. > :46:13.from Australia in the semis. Forstemann, an experienced

:46:14. > :46:17.campaigner, Olympic bronze medallist, former world champion in

:46:18. > :46:27.the team sprint as well, he has made his name as a team sprint rather

:46:28. > :46:30.than individual. An advantage coming off this morning qualification at

:46:31. > :46:38.the top of the trap here for the German. You cannot write off Njisane

:46:39. > :46:48.Phillip from Trinidad, he is riding superbly. But I think on paper, it

:46:49. > :46:55.is Forstemann's to lose. Phillip did beat Forstemann at 2012 and the

:46:56. > :46:59.world champion in the sprint is Stephan from Germany, not actually

:47:00. > :47:07.here, they have got strength and depth in their team. But in the

:47:08. > :47:10.men's and women's springing glimmer of sprinting with Miriam Welte and

:47:11. > :47:15.Christian Vogel. That really helps across the board, men and women and

:47:16. > :47:20.if you are training with the best in the world, every week here at the

:47:21. > :47:28.velodrome, then it is the way to help. And on the way to that, one

:47:29. > :47:32.rider is moving across to BMX but she does not get to compete with the

:47:33. > :47:35.world's best all the time which is one of the reason she's moving to

:47:36. > :47:43.America. But on the weather! That can only benefit Sinead that the

:47:44. > :47:46.track at Manchester here, we have got the first race here in the

:47:47. > :47:50.gold-medal match for the men's sprint and this will be a cracking

:47:51. > :47:54.sprint between these two. Forstemann on the inside takes Philip up to the

:47:55. > :48:00.barrier on the outside and look at Phillip, try to cut back down.

:48:01. > :48:04.Njisane Phillip trying to get more speed, lots of height on the track

:48:05. > :48:07.but it is a comfortable win for Robert Forstemann and he pushed the

:48:08. > :48:11.rider from Trinidad almost up to the railing at the top of the banking

:48:12. > :48:14.they're going into the banking at the start of the final lap. That was

:48:15. > :48:19.a clever move by Forstemann but what a forceful boot down the back

:48:20. > :48:24.straight from Phillip. Trying to push Forstemann down to the bottom

:48:25. > :48:28.of the track and as soon as he swung up there to try to gain some height

:48:29. > :48:33.and get a run in, that was it, he lost too much ground and Forstemann

:48:34. > :48:38.was far too strong in the run up there. A good flip to take control

:48:39. > :48:47.by Forstemann up their home straight, diving down the bank and

:48:48. > :48:54.got up on the bank. Crampo is a big rider, you do not want to be caught

:48:55. > :49:01.behind him. -- Phillip is a big rider. Shane Perkins with a reminder

:49:02. > :49:05.that he is leading Matt Crampton of Great Britain.

:49:06. > :49:18.JONATHAN EDWARDS: Forstemann there, I think, Victoria tactically taking

:49:19. > :49:21.Phillip to school. He did. He made the move for the sprint entering the

:49:22. > :49:25.last lap when he ducked underneath him, he really said, you are not

:49:26. > :49:29.doing what you want to do, you are doing what I want to do and pushed

:49:30. > :49:32.him around and Phillip did a great job to maintain power and

:49:33. > :49:35.acceleration while making contact with Forstemann so he takes it on

:49:36. > :49:40.here. Forstemann needs to get height or something here but almost causes

:49:41. > :49:45.him to pause and when you accelerate shoulder to shoulder, it is so hard

:49:46. > :49:49.to express 100% of what you have got because it knocks you off-balance

:49:50. > :49:56.and under a lap to go, difficult to make amends. It was almost man and

:49:57. > :49:59.boy that, in terms of tactics. Forstemann did a great job, saw an

:50:00. > :50:03.opportunity. I think Phillip should have taken it on earlier and not

:50:04. > :50:09.given him a chance to come underneath with one lap to go but it

:50:10. > :50:13.is very easy it is to say that from here but when you are on the track.

:50:14. > :50:21.When he look to Matt Crampton's race up against Perkins, they kept the

:50:22. > :50:25.speed is slow. It was also low on the track which is unusual. Matt is

:50:26. > :50:30.at an advantage here, but he reacts a fraction too slowly for Perkins'

:50:31. > :50:37.attack and as a consequence does not get on top of his gear by the back

:50:38. > :50:41.straight. He was labouring a bit. Perkins is already on speed and he

:50:42. > :50:46.will come past in the home straight. A moment in time although you don't

:50:47. > :50:52.see much on the bike, he has lost momentum. Absolutely. Perkins was

:50:53. > :50:57.generating speed and there was a slight hesitation in what Matt was

:50:58. > :51:01.applying to the pedals. And you are only talking a blink of an eye on

:51:02. > :51:05.the difference is huge. They come out the back straight, you cannot

:51:06. > :51:13.respond in the same way. It is a tough race. Going back to Matt and

:51:14. > :51:18.the team sprint, talk about Chris Hoy retiring and the effect on the

:51:19. > :51:23.team. They changed the team halfway through in Manchester but this is

:51:24. > :51:29.his chance to stake a claim, Jason Kenny. It is. I think Matt is very

:51:30. > :51:33.well suited to the anchor role and to Chris Hoy's role, he has been

:51:34. > :51:43.successful in the kilometre event as well in the past, and that is quite

:51:44. > :51:47.rare and special. They have got the potential fundamentally in those

:51:48. > :51:51.riders, with just me to see them develop it. And the Germans are

:51:52. > :51:57.looking slick. They have got a tidy performance in the team sprint.

:51:58. > :52:00.There is a lot of work to catch up with them. We will look back to

:52:01. > :52:03.Friday night, we mentioned Dani King riding in the scratch race after the

:52:04. > :52:06.team pursuit but also Katie Archibald from Scotland was in this

:52:07. > :52:15.one and this is what happened. COMMENTATOR: A little group of

:52:16. > :52:21.three. They continue to gain ground. Slowly inching away, only a

:52:22. > :52:28.few laps left. I am not sure if they have got enough time. The crowd

:52:29. > :52:39.cheering because behind those three, Dani King helping to animate this

:52:40. > :52:42.race. She did well to avoid the back wheel of the rider just in front of

:52:43. > :52:54.her. Half a dozen laps to go. And they

:52:55. > :52:58.are not far away from the back of that group, the three chasers. This

:52:59. > :53:14.could be an exciting finish. They are going to get off the back

:53:15. > :53:17.of the other Palatine with just five laps to go. -- they are going to get

:53:18. > :53:32.on the back of the peloton. It will make an exciting finish. A

:53:33. > :53:39.really good finish here, barely time for anybody to catch their breath

:53:40. > :53:49.with a finish of less than four lap iss away.

:53:50. > :53:52.I wouldn't mind betting that Dani King will get stuck into the sprint

:53:53. > :54:09.at the end. Two laps to go and Amy Hill from

:54:10. > :54:25.Wales is on the front, Dani King is up there as well and Olaberria on

:54:26. > :54:30.the front and Laurie Berthon is not a bit of a gap here. Olaberria

:54:31. > :54:34.chasing her, Dani King in third place, she is giving it all she has

:54:35. > :54:38.got, we are not sure how much she has lived in the final sprint but

:54:39. > :54:48.Laurie Berthon text it, Dani King fed -- third over the line. At the

:54:49. > :54:52.end of the women's scratch race there was the sprint at the end

:54:53. > :54:56.taken by Laurie Berthon, the greatest see Dani King with the

:54:57. > :55:03.energy to be at the front end of the race and so soon having taken part

:55:04. > :55:07.in the world record ride for the women's team pursuit. She basically

:55:08. > :55:12.had no rest, five minutes to get a drink and on a different bike. Just

:55:13. > :55:14.waiting for confirmation, the unofficial confirmation of the

:55:15. > :55:29.actual winner. There is Dani Wasn't even she has had no wonder

:55:30. > :55:54.she is tired. Archibald for Great Britain second,

:55:55. > :55:58.and the Ukrainian third, the Mexican was the one who we could see was at

:55:59. > :56:03.the back of the group, we knew she was not going to get involved and

:56:04. > :56:13.she ends up in fourth place. Here is the confirmation of the result. But

:56:14. > :56:17.Wojtyra takes the victory in the women's scratch race.

:56:18. > :56:26.JONATHAN EDWARDS: Next up was keirin with Becky James, she won two gold

:56:27. > :56:29.medals at the World Championships, she has done very well this year.

:56:30. > :56:36.COMMENTATOR: Becky James, double world champion! Two world champion

:56:37. > :56:42.titles, as it sank in now? When you say it like that, it doesn't feel

:56:43. > :56:47.real. It happened so fast. How will it play out tactically this time?

:56:48. > :56:51.She has kept Katrina Vogel against the board and she has committed the

:56:52. > :56:54.second burst of speed, or nothing now, the world title at stake and

:56:55. > :56:59.Becky James will do it! Becky James is the champion of the world! I

:57:00. > :57:02.don't have time to look back and think about what you have done, you

:57:03. > :57:08.are always focusing on what is ahead. Becky James leading the way.

:57:09. > :57:12.Playing cat and mouse. Becky James still on the front just over one lap

:57:13. > :57:17.to go, Becky James holding the lead, Becky James now in great chance to

:57:18. > :57:24.be double world champion, she has done it! Becky James raises her arms

:57:25. > :57:28.in the air and celebrate the second time in hours!

:57:29. > :57:38.What has changed you as an athlete and an individual? I feel like the

:57:39. > :57:40.same person. It was the most incredible time for me, winning

:57:41. > :57:47.those medals and one of the happiest times as well so everything has

:57:48. > :57:50.stayed the same for me. I will have to take the rainbow stripes now.

:57:51. > :57:58.JONATHAN EDWARDS: Not quite the same, wearing the rainbow stripes?

:57:59. > :58:05.She is underselling herself a bit, she is the one we are watching

:58:06. > :58:08.today. We sat alongside her in Salford not anticipating she would

:58:09. > :58:14.win two golds and other medals as well. She narrowly missed out in

:58:15. > :58:20.making the Olympic team and my place was in question in 2011 and she

:58:21. > :58:23.would have loved to have been part of that Olympic process and be part

:58:24. > :58:29.of the 2012 team and she probably deserve to be there, however I think

:58:30. > :58:33.that it really motivated her to come back the following year and really

:58:34. > :58:36.cleaned up and she did. She did an incredible job. Textbook, really.

:58:37. > :58:43.She may be the world champion she has been to keirin school. Tell us

:58:44. > :58:47.about this. It seems a weird thing in Japan, the men have always done

:58:48. > :58:53.it but for the first time the women. An opportunity for the women to race

:58:54. > :59:00.keirin. In Japan you bet on it like horse racing. It is gambling, there

:59:01. > :59:04.is lots of protocol, you must learn how to do it, cultural things, very

:59:05. > :59:08.interesting and an incredible opportunity. I am so envious they

:59:09. > :59:13.had an opportunity to do that because I have only had from men's

:59:14. > :59:16.experiences so it shows where the sport is moving for the women and

:59:17. > :59:24.they have the depth of field to have a women's keirin in Japan, amazing.

:59:25. > :59:25.It sounds amazing. Becky has been talking to Jill about a trip to

:59:26. > :59:33.Japan. You love to race and you love to get

:59:34. > :59:39.in the bunch in the keirin racing, what was the experience like in

:59:40. > :59:44.Japan? It was a different experience but I really enjoyed it. The first

:59:45. > :59:48.ten days were hard going into the school and learning all the rules

:59:49. > :59:51.and being in school from nine until five, even though you were not doing

:59:52. > :59:55.schoolwork. It was difficult training but when you are in the

:59:56. > :59:59.races for four days at a time, complete lockdown, no mobile phone

:00:00. > :00:03.or laptop, you are just focusing on your race each day having one race a

:00:04. > :00:09.day which is rather different compared to doing anything between

:00:10. > :00:15.four and ten races in a sprint and keirin. It was really enjoyable and

:00:16. > :00:19.all the girls were asking me so much advice, they just want to learn so

:00:20. > :00:22.much from you as well. I felt like I learn stuff from them out there as

:00:23. > :00:26.well so I enjoy the whole experience.

:00:27. > :00:30.JONATHAN EDWARDS: It is kind of a monastic lifestyle, they ban all

:00:31. > :00:35.forms of social media and electronic medication. That is unheard of in

:00:36. > :00:39.this day and age. It is so rare that you don't see people on their phones

:00:40. > :00:43.all the time or checking out their Facebook and whatnot so it is quite

:00:44. > :00:49.incredible. They have to do it to make sure that there is no betting

:00:50. > :00:55.negotiation going on, to keep it above board. Not that I am sure

:00:56. > :01:00.that! You have got Becky, world champion, and then Vogel and then

:01:01. > :01:09.also Morton. Yes, but very comfortable going in. There is the

:01:10. > :01:16.rainbow jersey, it is a bit weird, Becky James says that she wears it

:01:17. > :01:18.proudly. The final of the women's keirin.

:01:19. > :02:00.The confirmation of the line-up: The world champion from

:02:01. > :02:07.Abergavenny, 21 years of age. Settling down, composing herself for

:02:08. > :02:08.the final. They have had the final for the minor places and Anna Meares

:02:09. > :02:27.took the honours. This is the one for the medals. The

:02:28. > :02:33.previous semifinal, Becky James took it from the front. Not sure if she

:02:34. > :02:43.is in the form to be able to do that again. It kept her out of trouble in

:02:44. > :02:46.the semi and made sure she got through. You take it on from the

:02:47. > :03:04.front if you are a big strong rider. I don't know if she is in that

:03:05. > :03:09.form, especially with Morton and Vogel, the German rider is in third

:03:10. > :03:18.place now. Becky James up the front. These are the colours to look

:03:19. > :03:28.out for, the rainbow jersey of Becky James tact in behind the derny bike.

:03:29. > :03:45.-- tucked in. Kristina Vogel in white with the stripe down the back.

:03:46. > :03:56.The bright jersey at the back is Mustapa. She is from Malaysia. The

:03:57. > :04:08.pace of the bike slowly increases as the laps go by. 35 kilometres an

:04:09. > :04:18.hour. The tension starts to build. The riders are tightly tucked in.

:04:19. > :04:26.They will separate out a little bit. Becky James will probably roll a

:04:27. > :04:38.little bit back in a while. Keeping a check on the riders from behind.

:04:39. > :04:45.Lee and Vogel have impressed with their form. A look behind from

:04:46. > :04:57.Sandie Clair. She knows Kristina Vogel is breathing down her neck.

:04:58. > :05:04.The bike is about to disappear off the inside of the track and the

:05:05. > :05:08.races on. Becky James leads the way. Sandie Clair in second place.

:05:09. > :05:17.Kristina Vogel is in third. Morton makes a move. Mustapa tries to stick

:05:18. > :05:25.on the wheel. Kristina Vogel, around the outside. Lee tries to go with

:05:26. > :05:30.her. Becky James is being pushed out a little bit. Kristina Vogel is

:05:31. > :05:38.grabbing the race by the scruff of the neck. Lee in red is in second

:05:39. > :05:43.place. Has she got the legs Westermann not quite. Kristina Vogel

:05:44. > :05:48.wins the women's keirin to add to her sprint World Cup title she won

:05:49. > :05:58.here 24 hours ago. Blistering pace once more from Kristina Vogel. Becky

:05:59. > :06:02.James, a strong ride for silver. Vogel has proved she is the

:06:03. > :06:08.strongest on the track. They all came over the top. She held her

:06:09. > :06:12.nerve. A brave rave ride to keep the power down, keep the position and

:06:13. > :06:22.one by one she picked the riders off and she got on the wheel of Vogel. A

:06:23. > :06:26.good quality effort by Becky James. A good result. When you think about

:06:27. > :06:33.the winter track season and where we are, this is an encouraging sign.

:06:34. > :06:36.Kristina Vogel looks really good but also Becky James because as much as

:06:37. > :06:42.you want to do well in these meetings, in terms of this year, it

:06:43. > :06:48.is about the end of February. Becky is coming into the season, she has

:06:49. > :06:53.done a lot of racing, this type of racing on much bigger outdoor

:06:54. > :06:58.concrete tracks. I am wondering how much it affects the form, Jason

:06:59. > :07:06.Kenny is in a big training mode. Becky James, her preparation having

:07:07. > :07:15.done so much racing. This was the time to do it.

:07:16. > :07:22.Confirmation of the results: Kristina Vogel takes gold. Becky

:07:23. > :07:29.James of Great Britain just behind in second place and Sandie Clair

:07:30. > :07:38.from France wins bronze. A great performance from Kristina Vogel.

:07:39. > :07:46.There's no denying it, looking at the final lap for her, it is

:07:47. > :07:51.awesome. She was patient, Stephanie Morton made an attack but she did

:07:52. > :07:56.not commit to come straight over the front which she should have done.

:07:57. > :08:02.She stayed calm, took her time and then attacks. And it is difficult

:08:03. > :08:10.when someone comes from behind and does that to counteract with only a

:08:11. > :08:17.lap and a half to go. Becky did a fantastic job. It was narrowly

:08:18. > :08:23.silver. Straight back to the track. The last chance saloon, Matt

:08:24. > :08:29.Crampton having lost the first match to Shane Perkins. Crampton has to

:08:30. > :08:34.find a way to beat the Australian this time all he will have to settle

:08:35. > :08:42.for fourth and finish outside the medals. He needs this medal, Matt

:08:43. > :08:47.Crampton. These riders took control, they were side-by-side in

:08:48. > :08:53.the final lap. In the last quarter of a lap, the Australian took the

:08:54. > :08:59.decisive move and unfortunately Crampton cramped up, back legs

:09:00. > :09:05.dropped off. Will he tried to do the same again or will he try and ride

:09:06. > :09:12.from behind to take some slipstream from Perkins? Perkins at the front.

:09:13. > :09:31.Keeping his BDI on Matt Crampton. Trying to gain some height,

:09:32. > :09:38.Crampton. He is trying to push Perkins into speeding up. He cannot

:09:39. > :09:45.afford a momentary station. Matt Crampton must find a way. Perkins

:09:46. > :09:50.down on the inside. He cannot close the gap. Perkins into the finishing

:09:51. > :10:01.straight. Shane Perkins over the line. Matt Crampton is beaten in

:10:02. > :10:05.straight rights. It was looking good, Crampton had more hyped game

:10:06. > :10:11.which meant he could descend down the track and more speed that then

:10:12. > :10:15.Perkins knew where Crampton was anti-road him all over the track.

:10:16. > :10:22.When Crampton tried live underneath, as you see, Perkins dropped inside

:10:23. > :10:29.the red line and that was it. He forced Crampton to back off. He had

:10:30. > :10:34.no room to manoeuvre. Matt Crampton thought the door was left ajar and

:10:35. > :10:41.Perkins made sure it was firmly shut when the British rider tried to find

:10:42. > :10:48.a way through. Shane Perkins confirms he wins bronze in straight

:10:49. > :10:53.rights. It has been a good weekend for Crampton because he was given

:10:54. > :10:58.the bride in the final as we saw earlier on, the bronze medal race,

:10:59. > :11:05.the team sprint riding the third leg. It secured bronze Great

:11:06. > :11:11.Britain. A bit of conferring among the officials. Perhaps because if

:11:12. > :11:17.you look there, behind the red hoarding, Crampton entered the

:11:18. > :11:23.sprinters line first, he went underneath first, they could be

:11:24. > :11:31.saying Perkins cut across him but he was that far back, he was only just

:11:32. > :11:35.but it is possible but we know the way the officials like to stamp

:11:36. > :11:36.their authority on some of these races now and again. They could go

:11:37. > :11:49.either way. We are getting ready for the gold

:11:50. > :12:03.medal race, the second match of three. Robert Forstemann nearest the

:12:04. > :12:10.camera having a 1-0 lead from Trinidad and Tobago. A good race

:12:11. > :12:19.between them. Robert Forstemann tried to push Philip out towards the

:12:20. > :12:19.railing on the last lap. Philip that his left

:12:20. > :12:31.barging in with a shoulder to force Robert Forstemann back down the

:12:32. > :12:37.track. It was a great race. Action packed. Giving as good as he got,

:12:38. > :12:40.track. It was a great race. Action the front at the moment. As with

:12:41. > :12:45.Matt Crampton last time out, Philip has to win this race otherwise the

:12:46. > :12:46.gold will allude him at this World Cup meeting, the first World Cup

:12:47. > :12:58.meeting of the winter. The next Cup meeting, the first World Cup

:12:59. > :13:06.is in Mexico a few weeks away. A bit of cat and mouse, good vision,

:13:07. > :13:14.Robert Forstemann looking over his right-hand shoulder, keeping an eye

:13:15. > :13:23.on the potential. You rarely see it these days but anything can happen.

:13:24. > :13:31.Chris Hoy has come unstuck a couple of toys, it was Robert Forstemann

:13:32. > :13:36.who took a lunch of the line and did the whole race of the front.

:13:37. > :13:42.Sprinted from the go and court Chris out. He was on his back. He was

:13:43. > :14:39.lying on the floor for half an hour afterwards! Power and speed from

:14:40. > :15:00.Robert Forstemann. Germany dominating the match sprint

:15:01. > :15:06.events at this World Cup meeting. Robert Forstemann, an experienced

:15:07. > :15:13.rider. Bronze medallist last summer in a team sprint. A three-time

:15:14. > :15:19.European champion. Maximilian Levy, Denis Dmitriev and Shane Perkins and

:15:20. > :15:23.Philip claiming a victory having laid down a marker with a supremely

:15:24. > :15:46.quick ride. Forstemann taking the gold medal in

:15:47. > :15:51.straight rides there. Successful Shane Perkins over Matt Crampton in

:15:52. > :15:59.straight rides and also there, for Robert Forstemann of Germany. We're

:16:00. > :16:02.not anticipating any irregularities with the official confirmation.

:16:03. > :16:14.Shane Perkins their wins the bronze medal.

:16:15. > :16:20.Meantime, getting ready now for the latest victory ceremony, there is

:16:21. > :16:30.Kristina Vogel in the centre of your picture. Becky James just in front

:16:31. > :16:38.of her and Sandie Clair as well. JONATHAN EDWARDS: Forstemann one

:16:39. > :16:42.without any trouble, more drama in the bronze medal race, Perkins'

:16:43. > :16:50.result was allowed to stand but it was tight. It seemed like you locked

:16:51. > :16:53.Crampton off a little bit. Whoever enters the sprint when first has

:16:54. > :16:57.priority so even if you are behind and you enter the lane, you have

:16:58. > :17:01.right of way but however, it is whether they decide whether it

:17:02. > :17:05.impeded the final result of the race and their decision made was that

:17:06. > :17:12.despite Matt having to pull his wheel back and round the outside to

:17:13. > :17:17.get out, they still felt but Shane Perkins would win. A phenomenal bit

:17:18. > :17:22.of bike handling at 40 miles an hour or more to pull his wheel back. He

:17:23. > :17:26.would have to take the gas off for a split second and it is like when you

:17:27. > :17:30.lunge for the line and in reverse it pulls it out and ran the outside of

:17:31. > :17:34.the wheel, you are not applying force, you can't and that means you

:17:35. > :17:38.have to pick it up afterwards. Difficult to come back from. A

:17:39. > :17:42.silver medal for Becky James in this women's keirin. Great performance

:17:43. > :17:47.that and afterwards she spoke to Jill Douglas.

:17:48. > :17:51.That was a very impressive ride for the silver medal, you came into the

:17:52. > :17:55.races here not knowing what your form would be but you must be very

:17:56. > :18:00.happy to finish behind Kristina Vogel who is in the form of her

:18:01. > :18:07.life. She really is to get two wins in the first two rounds and write so

:18:08. > :18:10.well, I wanted to ride as well as I possibly could. I have made mistakes

:18:11. > :18:14.in the past two weeks and I corrected that and I knew I wouldn't

:18:15. > :18:18.be able to beat Vogel today so I am really pleased with the silver

:18:19. > :18:22.medal. You have made improvements since the Europeans. Massively, each

:18:23. > :18:25.week getting better and better and hopefully it will keep going. White

:18:26. > :18:29.drew most of the keirin racing has been won from the front and Vogel

:18:30. > :18:35.hit the front with a lap to go, that seems to be the way it has gone. It

:18:36. > :18:38.seems to be. Yes, and there are so many different tactics you can use

:18:39. > :18:42.in a keirin Taiwan from every position, from the back, the middle

:18:43. > :18:46.and from the front so it is a good to have a mix. You have done the

:18:47. > :18:51.rainbow jersey proud and now the next goal for you must be Cali. Yes,

:18:52. > :18:55.I have got a big rock of training and they going to the next World Cup

:18:56. > :18:59.and then another big but before Cali so hopefully get the form back.

:19:00. > :19:03.Thank you. JONATHAN EDWARDS: Becky was also in

:19:04. > :19:14.action in the other sprint. Come on COMMENTATOR: Vicky Williamson going

:19:15. > :19:19.for Great Britain and look at that effort as she gritted teeth to try

:19:20. > :19:27.to get on top of that year. Really powerful strong start -- as

:19:28. > :19:37.she grits her teeth to get on top of that year. What can the British duo

:19:38. > :19:41.do here? There is such a lot of work to do, Kristina Vogel against Becky

:19:42. > :19:44.James Great Britain, Vogel with the advantage going into the final lap,

:19:45. > :19:52.less than half a lap to go, towards the line and it is Germany who take

:19:53. > :19:58.the gold, 32.788, the winning time Great Britain, 33.635 have to settle

:19:59. > :20:03.for silver with this time, it went to form. The world and Olympic

:20:04. > :20:07.champions take the gold here at Manchester. Both teams improving on

:20:08. > :20:14.their time on qualifying early on but GB just not having quite enough

:20:15. > :20:18.legs to take the win today. Still a developing team though. Taking a

:20:19. > :20:25.quick look at your lap times, how happy are you with that? It is close

:20:26. > :20:29.to my personal best, we dropped down a gear to see if I had any more in

:20:30. > :20:34.the first quarter but it is about trial and error at the moment. To

:20:35. > :20:40.see what I am best on. To be 0.1 off my PB again is nice, I am pleased. A

:20:41. > :20:45.work in progress but fantastic to come away with a silver medal on

:20:46. > :20:49.your home track. Really pleased. It is like we were saying at the

:20:50. > :20:53.worlds, we came into it and said he wanted to get a better time at the

:20:54. > :20:57.worlds which we have massively by three tenths of a second. The shock

:20:58. > :21:01.again after qualifying, we were shocked when we finished but really

:21:02. > :21:10.pleased. Becky, for your performance, you are in great form.

:21:11. > :21:15.I did not expect that, at all. I kind of came in relaxed and knew

:21:16. > :21:23.that all I could do was my best and I am relieved pleased that I did APB

:21:24. > :21:27.for my second lap. I think you don't expect it and then step up and give

:21:28. > :21:32.us these amazing performances. I think I give my best performances

:21:33. > :21:39.when I am more relaxed. I come into the race in that mindset. And see if

:21:40. > :21:45.it works. A busy schedule over the weekend? Yes, two more days so we

:21:46. > :21:48.will be busy. We will let you collect your medals.

:21:49. > :21:53.JONATHAN EDWARDS: That was on Friday, and silver today. You get

:21:54. > :21:59.the feeling that it is early in the season for Becky but they are

:22:00. > :22:04.performing at a level above what they expect. Definitely. From what

:22:05. > :22:07.Becky was saying, she was unsure what she would come to the

:22:08. > :22:12.competition with. The team have been training hard because the focus is

:22:13. > :22:15.the end product, the World Championships, so it is fantastic

:22:16. > :22:20.that they have come away with more than they expected but that is not

:22:21. > :22:25.something that you... You do see that a lot with the team. We have

:22:26. > :22:28.not talked about Jess Varnish, she came in the individual sprint and

:22:29. > :22:32.got knocked out by Vogel, not surprisingly. Would you expect her

:22:33. > :22:37.to come in as the lead out woman in the way she led out for you?

:22:38. > :22:41.Obviously, Jess focused on the first lap of the team spent with me at the

:22:42. > :22:44.Olympics and she did a fantastic job, she gained so much, she is very

:22:45. > :22:50.powerful. But they have three girls in the mix if not more and it pushes

:22:51. > :22:59.everybody on. I expect her to come back as she will be a strong woman-1

:23:00. > :23:06.rider. Unfortunately get knocked out by somebody else in competition but

:23:07. > :23:11.that is the way it goes. Jess did the Becky at Revolution. It shows

:23:12. > :23:14.what sprint is about. -- chest did beat Becky. It is a fraction of a

:23:15. > :23:29.second -- chest did eat turkey. I saw you having a full debrief

:23:30. > :23:37.after that's print, what were they saying? -- after that sprint. They

:23:38. > :23:48.were saying good rides but those little bits, my sprinting and I have

:23:49. > :23:52.been trying to get under ten for the 200 or Mac, so close this morning

:23:53. > :23:59.and building upon the rights every day, so a few mistakes. On the one

:24:00. > :24:03.against Njisane Phillip, the inside was open and I tried to go round the

:24:04. > :24:07.outside, and with Perkins, I was a bit more aware of the inside and I

:24:08. > :24:12.just went... I thought it, I thought I would go for it and it was gone,

:24:13. > :24:21.the moment had gone. It is split seconds. And indecision, if you miss

:24:22. > :24:26.it, it has gone. Did Perkins interfere in that last round? I

:24:27. > :24:34.think it was pretty clean. He saw it and he was in so I think if you are

:24:35. > :24:37.splitting hairs... Yeah. Disappointed not to get a medal, but

:24:38. > :24:46.what happens now with progression from here to Cali? My target was in

:24:47. > :24:49.Mexico, get a proper shot with working for the team, I am still

:24:50. > :24:56.working quite hard, I have still got the gym going, lots of effort and

:24:57. > :25:00.road volume and I think there is more to come from Mexico. I am

:25:01. > :25:06.pleased with my 200 time because I have drifted into the 10.2, 10.3 and

:25:07. > :25:10.it used to go the other way. The processes are working. Thanks very

:25:11. > :25:13.much. JONATHAN EDWARDS: I am sure you have

:25:14. > :25:26.been doing this already, getting in touch by social media, but the

:25:27. > :25:28.handle is BBC cycling and @BBCSport. Katie Archibald going for bronze

:25:29. > :25:40.first of all. COMMENTATOR: 12 laps of the track,

:25:41. > :25:44.3000 metres the difference here and the women's individual pursuit, for

:25:45. > :25:48.the bronze medal and the rider we are looking at, the rider in the

:25:49. > :25:54.blue is Katie Archibald. Really exciting young talent riding for

:25:55. > :25:59.Scottish cycling Rekha .com -- braveheart .com. She won gold in the

:26:00. > :26:05.European Championships recently in Apeldoorn in the winning's team

:26:06. > :26:08.pursuit. She is against Bujak from Poland. Not much between them when

:26:09. > :26:17.they wrote earlier today, Archibald three, 37 .215.

:26:18. > :26:24.Bujak has opened up a big lead now, she can see Katie in her eyesight

:26:25. > :26:32.coming round the track. She went off slower in the qualifying. Katie was

:26:33. > :26:36.about a second and three quarters slower over the first kilometre in

:26:37. > :26:42.the qualifying round earlier today but Bujak has flown out of the gate

:26:43. > :26:49.and then we can see she will be able to see her opponent as she goes down

:26:50. > :27:06.the back straight. And at the one kilometre mark, Archibald riding to

:27:07. > :27:10.the same schedule as earlier but Bujak has gone about three seconds

:27:11. > :27:15.quicker. It will be harder to come back on this. Things are properly

:27:16. > :27:30.going to plan. Half distance now and the Polish

:27:31. > :27:35.rider still going strongly here having made a fast start against

:27:36. > :27:39.Katie Archibald, tried to put her under pressure right from the gun.

:27:40. > :27:44.Quite often a tactic from a lot of riders will try to get some pressure

:27:45. > :27:53.on their opponent and make them go off their game plan. But indications

:27:54. > :27:58.there to Katie that she is on schedule. That is Chris Newton on

:27:59. > :28:03.the apron of the track and there will be four laps to go across the

:28:04. > :28:10.line this time, watch the gap, the gap is 1.7 seconds almost. That is

:28:11. > :28:14.less than the gap between the two of them when they wrote earlier today.

:28:15. > :28:18.Katie has kept her legs going having been put under pressure. What has

:28:19. > :28:22.she got left in the Tang was magnetic bring it back? Because

:28:23. > :28:28.Bujak is now really starting to feel the pace. Katie has stuck to their

:28:29. > :28:34.game plan and it looks like she is actually clawing her way back in.

:28:35. > :28:38.The next time over the line it will be two laps to go as she is eating

:28:39. > :28:43.away at the advantage and now she is in front. Look at that, she has

:28:44. > :28:47.turned this race on its head. Excellent riding by Archibald. And

:28:48. > :28:54.Bujak here is really paying for that earlier tempo and she is paying for

:28:55. > :29:04.it and she is going backwards and Katie Archibald is heading for the

:29:05. > :29:09.bronze medal, 3.194 660 time for her -- 319 .466. And Bujak now is almost

:29:10. > :29:14.appearing to be riding backwards here. She is riding through treacle.

:29:15. > :29:23.Here is the line for Archibald, she takes the bronze and Bujak, super

:29:24. > :29:29.start but Archibald kept her nerve, stuck to the plan and stayed with it

:29:30. > :29:37.and came good and claimed the bronze.

:29:38. > :29:46.Away they go, 12 laps of the track and you can see Wiasak having to

:29:47. > :29:55.work hard in terms of getting on top of that cycle gear. She was a bit

:29:56. > :30:03.too anxious to get out, got caught in the gate. Joanna getting a better

:30:04. > :30:11.start. And Wiasak... Joanna Rowsell in these pursuit races, she can keep

:30:12. > :30:15.going all day. Really strong on the road and on the track. Great to see

:30:16. > :30:23.her racing again at the top level after a nasty fall in Arrived in

:30:24. > :30:36.London at the start of the summer. -- in Ride London. Nine laps to go

:30:37. > :30:49.now of the 750 metre mark. A sizeable advantage for Jo Rowsell.

:30:50. > :30:54.A nice comfortable lead. Rowsell is so steady. It looks as if she is

:30:55. > :31:09.riding along a rail. It shows the skill level of these

:31:10. > :31:17.athletes when they can ride so consistently. They make it look easy

:31:18. > :31:24.but it is definitely not. The challenger from Australia. Desperate

:31:25. > :31:27.to get into the Australian squad for the Commonwealth Games next summer.

:31:28. > :31:48.She travels to Sydney most weekends. A consistent gap at the moment. Five

:31:49. > :31:51.laps to go. Wiasak is not chipping away at the Jo Rowsell lead at the

:31:52. > :31:59.moment. A super controlled second ride. She

:32:00. > :32:30.is on schedule. Wiasak well over a second behind Jo

:32:31. > :32:53.Rowsell. Great style. Smooth, controlled power. From one

:32:54. > :33:00.of Britain's Olympic champions. Wiasak will have to do settle for

:33:01. > :33:06.silver. Joanna Rowsell puts the hammer down for the final 250

:33:07. > :33:14.metres. One final time. You will hear the roar on the finishing

:33:15. > :33:22.straight. Gold for Joanna Rowsell. She comfortably beats Wiasak from

:33:23. > :33:27.Australia. The second gold of the weekend for Joanna Rowsell.

:33:28. > :33:36.Yesterday they smashed the world record in the team pursuit. Gold in

:33:37. > :33:42.the individual event as well. A great performance from Jo Rowsell.

:33:43. > :33:50.The final scratch race is getting under way. First, little crash from

:33:51. > :34:01.earlier on. The Australian, Germany and Mexico came in off the back.

:34:02. > :34:09.Fancy footwork. A bit of rugby is going on today if George North is

:34:10. > :34:14.watching. He would have been impressed with that. Thankfully,

:34:15. > :34:23.they are all OK. Let's get back out for the final event. Martin Irvine

:34:24. > :34:28.of Ireland. Those riders were back up on their feet and onto their

:34:29. > :34:33.bikes. We have seen Edmundson from

:34:34. > :34:47.Australia having a turn on the front. The Czech Republic is very

:34:48. > :34:54.experienced. A former national road race rider. This is basically the

:34:55. > :35:03.first person to cross the line. You do not collect points. They hope

:35:04. > :35:04.riders do not lap. Otherwise it throws the cat amongst

:35:05. > :35:21.the pigeons. Heading into the closing laps. 15

:35:22. > :37:11.laps to go. Owain Doull fourth in the points

:37:12. > :39:04.race this weekend. He has ridden strongly. Torres pulls up the track.

:39:05. > :39:20.It is all starting to splinter. Muller is still out there on his

:39:21. > :39:37.own. This is a great ride by Muller. He timed his effort well.

:39:38. > :39:49.Less than six laps to go. Archibald is losing the wheel. Archibald had a

:39:50. > :39:54.good year at couple of years ago on the track getting silver. He had

:39:55. > :40:03.success in the World Cup in the UK but he cannot hold the pace.

:40:04. > :40:12.Muller is going well. The peloton is getting strung out now. Martin

:40:13. > :40:29.Irvine putting the pressure on. Muller still at the front. Two laps

:40:30. > :41:00.to go. This is the last lap! Can Muller

:41:01. > :41:03.hang on? He hasn't got much left. They are cruising down with every

:41:04. > :41:10.revolution of the pedals. What a finish. Muller gets it. What a

:41:11. > :41:20.fantastic finish. A brilliant brilliant ride. You can see how hard

:41:21. > :41:24.he worked. He is absolutely NCE of the tank. A standing ovation from

:41:25. > :41:29.the crowd. He brought the house down with that effort. He turned himself

:41:30. > :41:36.inside out. Such a well-deserved victory. The Italian was so

:41:37. > :41:45.desperate up the home straight. He ran out of track.

:41:46. > :41:51.It was so desperately desperately close at the end. Muller, the

:41:52. > :41:59.Austrian rider, such an experienced track rider. That hurts. That hurt

:42:00. > :42:11.so badly. Look at them bearing down on him! Muller takes gold. Italy who

:42:12. > :42:15.won a couple of European titles in the last month takes silver and

:42:16. > :42:24.Jonathan Mould from Wales claims bronze. Owain Doull for GB in the

:42:25. > :42:31.top ten. A good performance all round. What a ride for Muller.

:42:32. > :42:37.Incredible. Etched across his face. A super ride from Muller. He might

:42:38. > :42:46.need a minute or two to get his breath back. A gold for the

:42:47. > :42:55.Austrian. And what a great ride. Who would have thought an Austrian...

:42:56. > :42:59.That was exciting. Come on! If the track was three metres longer he

:43:00. > :43:03.would have been in trouble. He got just enough out. It was that the

:43:04. > :43:10.breakaway on the road race. They normally time it to perfection. He

:43:11. > :43:16.dipped in a bit low to the black line and came out. He was coming

:43:17. > :43:22.with so much speed. The speed was so much faster. Not enough track. A

:43:23. > :43:31.bronze medal for Jonathan Mould. Jill Douglas is with Dave Rael said.

:43:32. > :43:36.-- Dave Brailsford. You do not win Olympic gold medals

:43:37. > :43:43.or jerseys but you get an indication of where the team is at. It is

:43:44. > :43:49.positive. The average age of the team is one of the youngest we have

:43:50. > :43:55.had. We lost key players with Vicky and Chris, it feels like this

:43:56. > :44:01.Olympic cycle is slightly different. We are approaching it differently

:44:02. > :44:08.because of the age of the group. We are growing, there's an enthusiasm

:44:09. > :44:13.and use in the squad. We will race more intensely through the entire

:44:14. > :44:19.Olympic cycle. This weekend was fantastic. From a performance point

:44:20. > :44:25.of view, it is the most important thing, we are starting to see some

:44:26. > :44:33.very encouraging positive sign. The World Championships in Minsk, you

:44:34. > :44:39.could tell what the team is full brio. Is that the case? A bit

:44:40. > :44:44.premature. We have not got a big squad but it's big enough to create

:44:45. > :44:48.internal competition. The coaches cannot create looking over the

:44:49. > :44:53.shoulder, the pressure from behind for selection. Squad is big enough

:44:54. > :45:00.to create that but equally it is manageable enough, we are a tight

:45:01. > :45:06.group and I still say it is too early to talk about Rio. Looking at

:45:07. > :45:12.where the medals came from, the women's team have done very well. It

:45:13. > :45:15.is not that long ago there was one or sometimes two women on the entire

:45:16. > :45:22.track programme at World Championships. Where has the

:45:23. > :45:29.progress come from? The growth of the sport, really. We are lucky that

:45:30. > :45:33.a lot of people get to see the various highest level of the sport

:45:34. > :45:39.but behind that, a mammoth amount of work is going on in the clubs and

:45:40. > :45:45.around the country and the youth programmes and the sky rides, and

:45:46. > :45:49.that is at the base of our pyramid. So the talent is coming through in

:45:50. > :45:53.greater breadth and depth so it is a fantastic situation to the end. But

:45:54. > :45:59.Katie from Scotland, Katie Archibald who has burst onto the scene, a

:46:00. > :46:03.great example of that. The endurance team of the women, how impressive

:46:04. > :46:08.was the world record-breaking performance on the first day? Super,

:46:09. > :46:12.impressive performance. They are a step up from the rest of the world

:46:13. > :46:18.at the moment in that discipline and also to be fair to Laura, Dani King,

:46:19. > :46:25.Joanna, they are a group above the last people in the last Olympic

:46:26. > :46:29.cycle but we could put a squad of nine female riders for that event is

:46:30. > :46:33.now which is phenomenal. Their desire and ability to keep on

:46:34. > :46:37.winning and working is what really matters and the work ethic they have

:46:38. > :46:41.got is phenomenal and is contagious which is exciting. You are very much

:46:42. > :46:46.the team to beat when it comes into Olympic years, but it is usually

:46:47. > :46:50.Australia pushing hard, France but Germany have had a fantastic World

:46:51. > :46:57.Cup. Yes, and they have been building for the past few years and

:46:58. > :47:01.their sprinters are right on top of the game. Maybe even leading away at

:47:02. > :47:06.the moment but something to chase and you can never rest on your

:47:07. > :47:09.laurels. Just because you won the last Olympics, but does not set it

:47:10. > :47:13.up for the next one and we know that from past experience and it is about

:47:14. > :47:16.doing the little things and keep on doing those to make sure that you

:47:17. > :47:23.keep them pegged and then hopefully step ahead when it matters. Any

:47:24. > :47:30.areas of concern? Disappointing to see Jason Kenny not get into a medal

:47:31. > :47:37.race. Jason will be disappointed not to qualify but it seems to be that

:47:38. > :47:40.the qualification ride on the actual race in the individual sprint is

:47:41. > :47:45.becoming two different events. They put such different gears on for the

:47:46. > :47:50.qualification, it is a different event. Are there really any

:47:51. > :47:54.concerns? I don't think so. Everything is in place at this

:47:55. > :47:59.moment in time and our ability to work will make the difference, the

:48:00. > :48:03.riders' desire and the coaching team's desire to the task in hand.

:48:04. > :48:10.If we get that right, then we are in good shape. What are you hoping for

:48:11. > :48:17.in Cali? We might juggle up the line-ups in the team is a bit, try a

:48:18. > :48:21.few things out. At this point in the Olympic cycle there is still time to

:48:22. > :48:25.test things out and to experiment. Cali will give us that opportunity.

:48:26. > :48:28.Maybe change the line-ups a bit and see what happens. Thank you very

:48:29. > :48:33.much. JONATHAN EDWARDS: So, Victoria, a

:48:34. > :48:39.very happy and chilled Dave Brailsford, no cause for concern. Is

:48:40. > :48:42.that normal? I think so. He seemed relaxed and that is great and it

:48:43. > :48:50.gives the team a lot of confidence when you are led by somebody who has

:48:51. > :48:55.faith in you and believe that everything is in the right place,

:48:56. > :48:59.nothing to worry about. Everybody talked about London, how do you

:49:00. > :49:03.match what happened in Beijing? You must have felt pressure the team and

:49:04. > :49:08.because you did that, the pressure will start to build and ramp up. It

:49:09. > :49:12.well, there is no way he will be able to escape the fact that people

:49:13. > :49:16.will look toward the track cycling team and expect to see gold medals

:49:17. > :49:21.coming back. It is a tough thing to carry that, to carry the pressure

:49:22. > :49:26.and keep performing but it is a new and young team. It is not Chris

:49:27. > :49:32.myself going into the same event, it is a new, fresh team with different

:49:33. > :49:39.goals and ambitions at the start of a very exciting journey. They may

:49:40. > :49:47.well surprise us all. Going for gold against the Auld enemy, Australia

:49:48. > :49:50.now. -- the established enemy. COMMENTATOR: Australia, the world

:49:51. > :49:57.champions but only one of the riders, Alex Edmonson, has rainbow

:49:58. > :50:05.stripes on his suit. And we are inside the 32nd mark already.

:50:06. > :50:13.Ed Clancy, the older rider in the British team at 28. Two time Olympic

:50:14. > :50:17.champion in the Olympic pursuit, a five-time world champion and

:50:18. > :50:22.experience with Steven Berkoff is well, part of the Olympic quartet

:50:23. > :50:26.that one in London last year. Andy Tennant has a World Championship to

:50:27. > :50:33.his name and Owain Doull at 20 years of age, the most inexperienced, the

:50:34. > :50:38.youngster from Cardiff play more than his role in the qualifying

:50:39. > :50:40.rides. This will be some race. It is, extremely close, I predict and

:50:41. > :50:49.extremely loud in here. Great Britain just marginally slower

:50:50. > :50:55.than Australia but still settling in to the rhythm on the 16 laps. People

:50:56. > :51:03.still coming in all the time, they have sold the seats but there are a

:51:04. > :51:04.few empty ones on the far side. The world champion, Edmonson, swings up

:51:05. > :51:11.the banking. Mitchell Mulhern taking up the lead

:51:12. > :51:28.for Australia. The Australians are known for going

:51:29. > :51:32.out quick, they often do it to disrupt their opponents and get them

:51:33. > :51:38.to pick up the pace and get off their schedule. GB will know that

:51:39. > :51:41.and will not be panicking. Great Britain coming round once more 11

:51:42. > :51:53.laps to go. The gold medallist nalidixic Beijing

:51:54. > :51:57.himself, Paul Manning in this particular event is down there. --

:51:58. > :52:05.the gold medallist himself in Beijing. A slender lead that the

:52:06. > :52:14.Australians hold. Australia building a new team pursuit squad.

:52:15. > :52:24.The British quartet still looking comfortable. The crowd are now

:52:25. > :52:27.starting to play their part inside the velodrome as Andy Tennant takes

:52:28. > :52:49.it up at the front. Pushing with Owen -- Owain Doull upfront now.

:52:50. > :52:56.Paul Manning sitting on the pursuit line, six laps to go as Great

:52:57. > :53:07.Britain edged ahead. A thoughtful look on the face of

:53:08. > :53:12.Paul Manning. Measuring it down to the last centimetre here but Britain

:53:13. > :53:18.now are flying and Australia do look a bit more ragged, they have lost a

:53:19. > :53:21.rider, they are down to three. And Britain are powering around the

:53:22. > :53:32.track here and they are heading for gold in this race. As it stands, at

:53:33. > :53:35.the 3000 metre mark, 10.59.281. Three to go as they crossed the line

:53:36. > :53:52.this time. Definitely more than in control in

:53:53. > :53:53.this event. Great Britain are absolutely powering away as it

:53:54. > 5:25:46stands to victory. Australia tried at the end to pour a

5:25:47 > 5:25:46bit back but I think they let too much slip. Too much of a gap to

5:25:47 > 5:25:46close. Ed Clancy out of the box there for Great Britain. He is a big

5:25:47 > 5:25:46strong lad. The British trio composed, a mixture

5:25:47 > 5:25:46of cool heads and strong legs in that final.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46What a fantastic way to start this World Cup here in Manchester. Yes,

5:25:47 > 5:25:46it was good. We did a good riding qualifying and -- we did a good ride

5:25:47 > 5:25:46in qualifying. When you think back to 2008, we have the World

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Championships, wooded 56.3 with Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas

5:25:47 > 5:25:46in the team. We are in a good place. It went to plan there. Yes, the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46qualifying pace seemed smooth for us. And I am glad we're backing it

5:25:47 > 5:25:46up. In the past week have not backed up our first ride so it is the first

5:25:47 > 5:25:46race of the season and I am glad we came out on top. What with the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46performance of the Europeans as well, it has not been a bad

5:25:47 > 5:25:46performance or a bad fortnight for you. Hopefully making carry it

5:25:47 > 5:25:46through to Mexico and then to Colombia. A great history, you are

5:25:47 > 5:25:46quite new to this stepping up into this team though, how much did you

5:25:47 > 5:25:46enjoy it? It has been a manic few weeks for me. Only done two rides.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46To win both, it has been very special and riding with these guys,

5:25:47 > 5:25:46such experienced and accomplished riders, pretty special. A 100%

5:25:47 > 5:25:46record then! Not bad! JONATHAN EDWARDS: Gold into disuse

5:25:47 > 5:25:46for both the British teams. A most closer race for the men -- gold in

5:25:47 > 5:25:46team pursuit for both British teams. Owain Doull coming in, they looked

5:25:47 > 5:25:46well drilled. They looked very smooth, they looked exactly on pace,

5:25:47 > 5:25:46nothing went awry and it is a great team, they say they are a

5:25:47 > 5:25:46development team but Ed Clancy and Steven They closed the gap. A lots

5:25:47 > 5:25:46of speed and intention. Andreas Mueller was starting to fade

5:25:47 > 5:25:46slightly. You can see it on his face. I am not sure he could see the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46screen and get an idea of how close they were. Viviani is used to trace

5:25:47 > 5:25:46-- chasing down. It was misjudged by about three metres. He held on for

5:25:47 > 5:25:46dear life and the crowd loved it. We talked about how much they support

5:25:47 > 5:25:46of British athletes here but I am not sure there was as loud a cheer

5:25:47 > 5:25:46as there was... There are lots of people who experience that feeling

5:25:47 > 5:25:46with nothing left. It was a very exciting event to watch. Viviani's

5:25:47 > 5:25:46turn of pace, he judged it just wrong. Jon Mould took bronze. He

5:25:47 > 5:25:46spoke to Jill. You reeled them in. You seemed to enjoy that. It was

5:25:47 > 5:25:46great. The Austrian was really strong. We were chasing and chasing.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46I was really happy to hang on for third. I was worried everybody

5:25:47 > 5:25:46coming over the top. We were really close, Viviani. You can say that

5:25:47 > 5:25:46every time you race him. It was a real hard race. Great fun to get

5:25:47 > 5:25:46stuck in. And great to get on the podium as well. It has been really

5:25:47 > 5:25:46good. My fifth World Cup. A bit more experience. I enjoy getting stuck

5:25:47 > 5:25:46into the race. Wales are on a high at the moment. We have many Welsh

5:25:47 > 5:25:46riders. Competing at the World Cup, the Commonwealth Games as well. It

5:25:47 > 5:25:46is a big statement ahead of the Commonwealth Games. Wales will turn

5:25:47 > 5:25:46up and gets the medals. It should be good. We wish you luck. Thank you.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46No joy for Martin Irvine. We join it with one sprint to go. Irvine right

5:25:47 > 5:25:46in the thick of it. Owain Doull feeling the pace. He is

5:25:47 > 5:25:46coming up towards the main group. Gasping for air, giving it

5:25:47 > 5:25:46absolutely everything. Half a dozen laps to go. Martin Irvine... And

5:25:47 > 5:25:46excellent ride from the Irishman. He has worked hard.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46I did not think he had it in him. He has composed himself. Here he is in

5:25:47 > 5:25:46contention. Have they got the legs to hang on? Can he make sure he gets

5:25:47 > 5:25:46the points to close the gap on Hanson?

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Irvine just keeps on looking at the countdown clock.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Last year Hanson is on the front at the moment is trying to drag the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Palatine round. -- Lasse Norman Hansen. They are not gaining

5:25:47 > 5:25:46ground, the German on the front, Irvine from Ireland and the Spaniard

5:25:47 > 5:25:46up there as well. Three national titles for him. But this is really

5:25:47 > 5:25:46about Martin Irvine and the strength and guts and determination of

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Irvine, that will take into victory. Irvine leads. Half a lap to go.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Martin Irvine leads from the front and he wins from the front! Great

5:25:47 > 5:25:46race for Ireland! Superb run for Martin Irvine, he worked so hard for

5:25:47 > 5:25:46that. And Viviani brings the rest of the race over the line. Martin

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Irvine really built up a head of steam, got stronger and stronger as

5:25:47 > 5:25:46the race went on and then he got in that key break with the Spanish

5:25:47 > 5:25:46rider and the German, they worked well together and goodness me, yet

5:25:47 > 5:25:46paid off because it helped carry Martin Irvine to victory. He is so

5:25:47 > 5:25:46lucky to have those people with him. But unfortunately the German and the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Spaniard, all that hard work and then they couldn't get near the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46podium. But Martin worked so hard for that, such a strong lap. The

5:25:47 > 5:25:46time to hit the front is right at the end and that is what Martin

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Irvine did in terms of the overall situation. He did not lead until he

5:25:47 > 5:25:46crossed the finishing line at the end but he thoroughly deserved that.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46He was diligent, tactically strong, his legs were good and he had two

5:25:47 > 5:25:46breakaway companions prepared to work with him. Martin Irvine takes

5:25:47 > 5:25:46the gold medal for Ireland. Lasse Norman Hansen for silver with 17

5:25:47 > 5:25:46points, three points behind and the bronzes taken by Viviani for Italy

5:25:47 > 5:25:46and just outside the medals, Owain Doull of Great Britain.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46And there is the official confirmation of the result. Martin

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Irvine with gold for Ireland. Olympic champion in the Omnium three

5:25:47 > 5:25:46points back, Lasse Norman Hansen. He led until the final sprint and

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Viviani for Italy beating Owain Doull to the bronze a single point.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46JONATHAN EDWARDS: One gutsy bike rider. We'll have a chat with the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46lads in the commentary box. Simon, first question to you, Dave

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Brailsford was happy, do you think he has got good reason to be? Yes, I

5:25:47 > 5:25:46think he has. We should not forget where we are in Neolithic cycle and

5:25:47 > 5:25:46that is the way that Great Britain look at these things. In these four

5:25:47 > 5:25:46yearbooks -- in the Olympic cycle. Jason Kenny was not on top form but

5:25:47 > 5:25:46he performed to his training levels. There is a lot more to come from

5:25:47 > 5:25:46him. There's a lot of encouragement as well, you mention the younger

5:25:47 > 5:25:46riders, I picked out Katie Archibald from Scotland. She got silver in the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46scratch race, bronze in the individual pursuit she won the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46European title with Laura, and she has had a taste of being in the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46senior team. She is a real talents. She is one of many but across the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46board Great Britain performed very strongly hence why they were on the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46top of the podium a few minutes ago. strongly hence why they were on the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46At one particular highlight for you? The women's team pursuit. They have

5:25:47 > 5:25:46dominated the event. It has changed, it is four women over four

5:25:47 > 5:25:46kilometres. They are showing more strength and depth. They had nine

5:25:47 > 5:25:46riders they could pick from. It puts Great Britain at a massive advantage

5:25:47 > 5:25:46over so many other nations. It has been incredible to see. They have

5:25:47 > 5:25:46loved racing in front of their own crowd. Thank you, guys. Victoria,

5:25:47 > 5:25:46you are a year retired. How is it panning out? It is nice to be

5:25:47 > 5:25:46watching and enjoying the race rather than being part of it. The

5:25:47 > 5:25:46nervous days are long gone. It is great to be back on home turf. You

5:25:47 > 5:25:46must have been pleased with the performances. Absolutely, it is a

5:25:47 > 5:25:46young and exciting team. It will be great for them moving forward. There

5:25:47 > 5:25:46is so much more to come. When we finished here, turn over to the red

5:25:47 > 5:25:46button for more action from Manchester. Live coverage of the

5:25:47 > 5:25:46world squash final. Nick Matthews seeded four is up against number

5:25:47 > 5:25:46two. Then, BBC One, 10:25pm, Match Of The Day II. And the South Wales

5:25:47 > 5:25:46derby. Highlights of the weekend action from the Rugby World Cup.

5:25:47 > 5:25:46England against Ireland. That is it from Manchester. Double gold for Jo

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Rowsell and Laura Trott and things are ticking along nicely towards

5:25:47 > 5:25:46Rio. We are back again for the World Championships next year but from all

5:25:47 > 5:25:47of us, goodbye.
