:00:47. > :00:50.Series grand final. After a global journey taking in seven countries

:00:51. > :00:55.over five months, the season ends here in Canada in a city which

:00:56. > :01:00.hosted the 1978 Commonwealth Games. This week, Edmonton has welcomed

:01:01. > :01:05.more than 3000 athletes, with World Championship titles at state for the

:01:06. > :01:08.elites, the under 23 is, the paratriathlon eats and the amateur

:01:09. > :01:14.age-group is. Over the next couple of hours we are going to be focusing

:01:15. > :01:17.on elite women and with the absence of women's world champion from

:01:18. > :01:25.Britain, this year 's series has been dominated by one woman, Gwen

:01:26. > :01:28.Jorgensen, of the USA. COMMENTATOR: It was always inevitable that she

:01:29. > :01:32.would strike from the front. Fabulous work so far. Gwen Jorgensen

:01:33. > :01:41.is going to win round three at a canter! Picking off race after race.

:01:42. > :01:49.It was a straightforward... As easy as it comes, for somebody of her

:01:50. > :01:59.running ability. She has already made the break. She will win this

:02:00. > :02:05.series event in Chicago. She will take her fourth straight World

:02:06. > :02:13.Triathlon Series win. She has done it in some style her for

:02:14. > :02:17.back-to-back victories have helped her to build up a sizeable lead in

:02:18. > :02:21.the rankings, that means that she should win her first world title

:02:22. > :02:26.today. If the last races of the season have told us anything over

:02:27. > :02:31.the last couple of years, it is to expect the unexpected.

:02:32. > :02:39.COMMENTATOR: The grand final is going to decide where the title

:02:40. > :02:42.goes. She is ending her race, it is all over... Norton takes the series

:02:43. > :02:56.title in fourth today. Gwen Jorgensen, in the running to be

:02:57. > :03:01.the world champion today. CO-COMMENTATOR: Disastrous whim, she

:03:02. > :03:04.has got to be over two minutes down. Somebody has missed the box with the

:03:05. > :03:10.wet suit, that is a 15 second penalty. Huge pile-up. Gwen

:03:11. > :03:19.Jorgensen. This is a nightmare for the American. The champion of the

:03:20. > :03:26.world! A magnificent victory! 2014, anything can happen!

:03:27. > :03:35.Jorgensen, but Helen's season came to a disappointing and premature end

:03:36. > :03:39.in hamburg because of injury and then in Stockholm, it all went wrong

:03:40. > :03:44.for Jodi, as she trailed home in 16th. That enabled another American,

:03:45. > :03:49.Sarah Groff, stock on winner, to leapfrog Jodie in the rankings and

:03:50. > :03:52.in the race for the world title, it took the pressure off Gwen

:03:53. > :03:56.Jorgensen. Now all she needs to do is finish in the top 17 in Edmonton

:03:57. > :04:02.to be crowned world champion, the other girls are racing for the other

:04:03. > :04:06.two podium places. When Jorgensen's clear strength, her running style,

:04:07. > :04:09.to storm from the back of the field right up to the front, one of the

:04:10. > :04:13.most impressive sites in triathlon. Of the past couple of years she has

:04:14. > :04:17.been working hard to try to become more of a complete triathlete, how

:04:18. > :04:22.is she going to do on this course in Edmonton? We can speak with former

:04:23. > :04:27.Olympic champion Simon Whitfield, very first male Olympic triathlon

:04:28. > :04:31.champion. You have no wrinkles! You look fantastic! I would say that

:04:32. > :04:35.this is your home course, you are Canadian. It is a tougher course

:04:36. > :04:39.than people think, they underestimated, it is going to be an

:04:40. > :04:44.interesting men's and women's race. Compare it to another course. The

:04:45. > :04:48.hill that come straight out of the water like it does, the athletes

:04:49. > :04:54.have to come out of the swing, it is a long run to the bike. -- swim. You

:04:55. > :04:58.have got to be fit to come out of the hill and get yourself an

:04:59. > :05:01.position. The Brownlee brothers will be going for it but in the women's

:05:02. > :05:04.race, they will be trying to get away from when Jorgensen, they will

:05:05. > :05:09.want to put her under pressure. Especially the girls like Jodie

:05:10. > :05:13.Stimpson and Sarah Groff, they will try to break away from her. Do you

:05:14. > :05:20.think this course plays to their strengths? -- Gwen Jorgensen. I love

:05:21. > :05:25.the way the Jodie races, sticking to the front. Sarah is the same. I'm

:05:26. > :05:31.trying to put when Jorgensen under pressure, if I am them. This is the

:05:32. > :05:35.World Championships, this is a world final, it is not secure, she has the

:05:36. > :05:37.ability to storm from the back but of the girls put her under pressure

:05:38. > :05:42.and she makes mistakes than that title will be gone like that. It is

:05:43. > :05:46.not over until it is over. It is not over until it is over. We have seen

:05:47. > :05:50.what the champion elect can do in competition but over the last couple

:05:51. > :05:58.of years we have not been able to know Gwen Jorgensen the person until

:05:59. > :06:04.now. She has a gift. She is focused and she is driven. She is fun to be

:06:05. > :06:08.around. She takes it very seriously but you does not take herself too

:06:09. > :06:13.seriously. She does not enjoy the smaller lout spotlight that it

:06:14. > :06:18.brings. If she does something she will not do it by half. That is just

:06:19. > :06:23.though I am. It is crazy to think that I was working full-time as an

:06:24. > :06:27.accountant, did not have a road bike before 2010 but at the same time I

:06:28. > :06:32.grew up swimming and running, I always knew I wanted to be active. I

:06:33. > :06:35.met her in 2011, riding a bike full-time, I happen to be in

:06:36. > :06:39.Milwaukee, that is where she was living and working and training, she

:06:40. > :06:42.was gearing up for the Olympics, she qualified, I had no idea what she

:06:43. > :06:47.was doing. You could tell she had a talent that she was not using to her

:06:48. > :06:50.full potential. I looked at different training groups, Jamie

:06:51. > :06:55.Turner's group was amazing, all of the athletes so welcoming. You train

:06:56. > :07:01.with them, you push each other, everybody gets along. Post-Olympics

:07:02. > :07:05.in 2012, Gwen Jorgensen came to Australia where we live, she makes

:07:06. > :07:08.changes, she was quite open, looking globally at what was required.

:07:09. > :07:13.Fantastic gift, talent, she is probably somebody who was performing

:07:14. > :07:16.know when the best of our ability but you could see the potential. She

:07:17. > :07:19.was prepared to make the investment. So knowledgeable, every

:07:20. > :07:24.time he says something it makes me think and it makes me grow. I have

:07:25. > :07:32.been training with her for two years. We spend most days together.

:07:33. > :07:36.She is an amazing talent. It is not that she is special or anything, she

:07:37. > :07:41.literally just gets up every day and she does the work. A coach, Jamie,

:07:42. > :07:46.the two biggest assets to her. They are getting married in a month and

:07:47. > :07:50.we joke that Pat is going to change his name to Jorgensen, so that is

:07:51. > :07:58.what we call him all of the time! Without Pat, Gwen Jorgensen would

:07:59. > :08:01.not be here. I like to be around family and friends, and moving away

:08:02. > :08:05.for eight, nine months of the year, every year, it is really difficult,

:08:06. > :08:08.Pat said that he was willing to do it with me and that is the only

:08:09. > :08:13.reason I even gave it some consideration. COMMENTATOR: She is

:08:14. > :08:19.out on her own in a league of her own. She is very focused and driven

:08:20. > :08:23.when it comes to the sport and what it takes to do the best. She finds

:08:24. > :08:28.peace in her own thing and does not want to get distracted by what is

:08:29. > :08:31.around her going on. She's quite a down to earth person and we provide

:08:32. > :08:35.an environment which is not insular but it takes us away from everyone

:08:36. > :08:41.who would like to invade. I'm naturally introverted. This has made

:08:42. > :08:46.me a more outgoing person. Gwen Jorgensen will take her fourth

:08:47. > :08:50.straight World Triathlon Series win. I do not think she is thinking of

:08:51. > :08:54.being world champion, in 2013 she set down a list of goals, being

:08:55. > :08:59.world champions not one of them, she had a really good opportunity for

:09:00. > :09:04.that to happen in London. Unfortunately she crashed. We have a

:09:05. > :09:09.huge pile-up, to have gone down. She was pretty motivated last year after

:09:10. > :09:15.the misfortune. -- two have gone down. She knows that sport can be

:09:16. > :09:17.really fickle. Now that the Commonwealth Games are over,

:09:18. > :09:21.everyone on the starting line has been prepping for this race, it is

:09:22. > :09:24.going to be tough. What I have learned through the years is that

:09:25. > :09:25.you can never take anything for granted, I'm just trying to do the

:09:26. > :09:34.best I can. That is the trophy, waiting for a

:09:35. > :09:38.new world champion. Talking us through the action, Max Chilton and

:09:39. > :09:42.for one last time this season, Annie Emerson.

:09:43. > :09:49.COMMENTATOR: Welcome to Edmonton, Alberta, the World Triathlon Series

:09:50. > :09:52.and 42014 reaching climax here, the grand final. We are about 15 minutes

:09:53. > :10:07.from downtown Edmonton. A slightly peculiar bicycle course,

:10:08. > :10:17.211 kilometre laps, giving us a total of 22, climbing up behind the

:10:18. > :10:23.Alberta legislature building. A second feature on the bike, after

:10:24. > :10:26.the two laps, then there is five laps on a different loop, a very

:10:27. > :10:29.different look, giving us a total distance on two wheels of 43.2

:10:30. > :10:34.kilometres. So it is not the usual distance on two wheels of 43.2

:10:35. > :10:39.40, it is slightly extended for the grand final. It is a normal ten K

:10:40. > :10:51.run, that is represented by this red line on the animation. 10,000 metre

:10:52. > :10:59.run, four laps. It all takes place around this beautiful River Valley,

:11:00. > :11:04.North Saskatchewan River, in Edmonton. It is her title to win.

:11:05. > :11:08.She is way out in the standings, having dominated the series pretty

:11:09. > :11:13.much from start to finish. Number two, Sarah Groff, fresh from her

:11:14. > :11:22.first World Series win, in Stockholm. Beautiful conditions,

:11:23. > :11:22.blue sky. The grand final of the 2014 World Triathlon Series

:11:23. > :11:30.underway. Gwen Jorgensen, leads the standings,

:11:31. > :11:35.coming into the final event of the season. The big favourite to take

:11:36. > :11:40.the win. And to take the World Championship title. They begin with

:11:41. > :11:50.1500 metres swim. They are in the centre of the park,

:11:51. > :11:55.which provides the backdrop for this World Triathlon Series final meeting

:11:56. > :12:01.of 2014. Cold water in the lake. Wet suits being worn. Two laps of the

:12:02. > :12:05.water, will come out once, and then run along the carpet, and back onto

:12:06. > :12:13.the sand, before diving in the second lap. The second stage will

:12:14. > :12:22.involve a 43.2 kilometres cycle, 211 kilometre laps, and then for 5.3

:12:23. > :12:28.kilometre laps. Slightly quirky. -- four. And we will have a run

:12:29. > :12:33.completed over four 2.5 kilometre laps. These are spectacular scenes.

:12:34. > :12:40.CO-COMMENTATOR: Yes, what an exciting race. Gwen Jorgensen, she

:12:41. > :12:44.is the huge favourite here today. But of course in the Olympic Games

:12:45. > :12:49.in 2012 she went in as one of the podium favourites, great

:12:50. > :12:56.disappointment, punctured. Voted in 2013 last year when she was set to

:12:57. > :13:01.win the title, also crashed out. -- punctured. Will the pressure get to

:13:02. > :13:04.much for her? I do not know. It is a great field but we have got to look

:13:05. > :13:09.at some of these athletes and how they have peaked in the Commonwealth

:13:10. > :13:13.Games. Samuels, Reid, others, they all peaked for the race back in

:13:14. > :13:17.July, and perhaps coming into this race just a little bit tired...

:13:18. > :13:24.Lovely afternoon in this part of Alberta, we are 200 miles north of

:13:25. > :13:31.Calgary. I suppose you would call the midwest of Canada. Ideal

:13:32. > :13:35.swimming conditions, flat as a pancake. This woman's love that. It

:13:36. > :13:39.can put some of them off when it is choppy but this lake is flat as a

:13:40. > :13:44.pancake and lovely conditions overall. As a triathlete would you

:13:45. > :13:49.rather swim, assuming that the water is flat, would you rather have

:13:50. > :13:50.freshwater or would you prefer to have salt

:13:51. > :13:55.freshwater or would you prefer to is a good question, probably the

:13:56. > :14:00.lake water is better, because the salt is going to annoy you overall,

:14:01. > :14:02.it can get in the goggles and Sting. Once you have the wet suit on, does

:14:03. > :14:07.not make a difference Once you have the wet suit on, does

:14:08. > :14:11.salt or normal lake water. The wet suit is going to aid. If you do not

:14:12. > :14:18.have a wet suit on, you would prefer the salty water. Just got a shot of

:14:19. > :14:22.Angela Hewitt, she was runner-up in stock on behind Sarah Groff in the

:14:23. > :14:27.sprint, it was Sarah Groff who took the gold, Angela Hewitt the silver,

:14:28. > :14:31.Nicky Samuels, the bronze, and missing out in force, Kristin

:14:32. > :14:38.Sweeting. Another American was fifth. All of those triathletes are

:14:39. > :14:43.in the field today. Mentioning Angela Hewitt, New Zealand, such an

:14:44. > :14:46.experienced athlete, only three women racing today that have

:14:47. > :14:50.actually won medals at World Championships, we do not have a

:14:51. > :14:54.former world champion in the race. Hewitt has won three previous

:14:55. > :15:00.medals, a bronze and two silver. Last year, Stimpson, 2013, winning

:15:01. > :15:02.the silver. Sarah Groff, bronze, 2011, currently in silver

:15:03. > :15:08.the silver. Sarah Groff, bronze, position at the moment. One of the

:15:09. > :15:13.strongest tremors, if not the strongest swimmer in the field, the

:15:14. > :15:17.girlfriend of Mario Mola, it is Riederer. Marion Moeller has an

:15:18. > :15:22.outside chance in the men's tomorrow. -- Marian Moeller has an

:15:23. > :15:28.outside chance in the men's tomorrow. -- Mario Mola.

:15:29. > :15:47.Angela Hewitt has had a good start. You can see the standings below:

:15:48. > :16:00.I wonder if Gwen Jorgensen is with the second group, you can see top

:16:01. > :16:04.left, making the turn and diving back into the water, she may have

:16:05. > :16:10.become removed from the leaders. May have done a little bit, still a big

:16:11. > :16:16.group, we only went down to 11. I imagine she is in there somewhere.

:16:17. > :16:20.Sarah Haskins racing here one, perhaps good tactics from team USA.

:16:21. > :16:27.We have not seen her for a long time. She went off and she had a

:16:28. > :16:32.baby. As far as I knew, she was not due to race here until a few weeks

:16:33. > :16:35.ago, they probably brought her in. It could be likely, I do not think

:16:36. > :16:39.Gwen Jorgensen needs that kind of help, but if you have a puncture,

:16:40. > :16:43.just as Stuart Hayes did for the Brownlee brothers in the Olympics,

:16:44. > :16:46.always handy to have a domestic, if you know the title is well within

:16:47. > :16:56.your grasp, you do not want to take any risks. 32, Margaret Vanek,

:16:57. > :17:03.Hungary, up near the front. With Carolina route here from Spain.

:17:04. > :17:20.Stand-up paddle borders, the latest craze, they like to be called SUP.

:17:21. > :17:25.There is no wind and no waves to hamper progress, we expect this to

:17:26. > :17:36.be a pretty swift swim today. The bike may not be as quick as this.

:17:37. > :17:42.Interesting bike course, 43 point... 43.2 kilometres, a little

:17:43. > :17:48.bit extra to what they are used to. It is to laps, and then for laps. We

:17:49. > :17:52.hope that their brains are working! -- it is two laps and then four

:17:53. > :17:58.laps. I find that difficult to figure out myself. There is a

:17:59. > :18:02.testing hill. It is not a tough bike course but it is going to test some

:18:03. > :18:07.of the weaker cyclists. We are used to seeing flat courses around the

:18:08. > :18:13.world, Auckland has a climb, Yokohama, London, all of them flat.

:18:14. > :18:18.Chicago, flat. Thinking back to all of the races we have seen. Hamburg,

:18:19. > :18:22.another flat one. Good to see a tough climb in the Commonwealth

:18:23. > :18:29.Games. Stockholm has a climb towards the end of each lap. Today is going

:18:30. > :18:34.to be quite a test. We have a big group forming. Probably 25 to 30

:18:35. > :18:39.swimmers, at the front. That could translate into quite a big group,

:18:40. > :18:45.when they come out of the group and head for the bikes. We expect to CAD

:18:46. > :18:52.Saint pack forming at the start of the 43 K run. It is a fast swim, no

:18:53. > :18:56.doubt, they are out in nine minutes. -- we expect to see a big pack

:18:57. > :19:04.forming. I have seen previously that the time

:19:05. > :19:10.to the women has been around 18 minutes, or just under. Quick,

:19:11. > :19:14.certainly to the women's race. Coming to the next turn, this will

:19:15. > :19:19.send them back towards the far side of the island. Heading towards the

:19:20. > :19:26.beach for the exit. To conclude the lap. And then, the 43 K bike, and

:19:27. > :19:30.after getting on that, they will follow the road towards the exit,

:19:31. > :19:35.and they will merge left, gentle left-hand turn, taking them on to

:19:36. > :19:39.the access road. Across the bridge, and then when they get off the

:19:40. > :19:47.bridge they will be on the River Rally vote. -- River Valley Road.

:19:48. > :19:51.Then they will turn left and then the climb begins at the front of the

:19:52. > :19:55.Alberta legislative ground and around the back of the Alberta

:19:56. > :20:01.legislative State building. That is the toughest part of the course and

:20:02. > :20:06.we will see that several times. Yes, this is a great venue. It has

:20:07. > :20:11.everything, it has a testing bicycle. The run is not totally

:20:12. > :20:17.flat, testing after the hard bike course. In Edmonton they know

:20:18. > :20:22.exactly what they are doing. It is a second location, second country ever

:20:23. > :20:27.to hold a World Championship, Perth has held two and Edmonton, so no

:20:28. > :20:31.other country has held two. They know what they are doing. In terms

:20:32. > :20:37.of the world title, which is up for grabs, Gwen Jorgensen has been so

:20:38. > :20:41.dominant all season. She has got to finish inside of the top 16, that is

:20:42. > :20:48.the kind of margin Pharaoh they have. -- margin for error. If she

:20:49. > :20:52.finishes inside the top 16, she will be the winner, at times she has

:20:53. > :20:57.problems with her bicycle. Crashing in London last year, we already

:20:58. > :21:01.mentioned she had a puncture during the Olympic travelling in Hyde Park,

:21:02. > :21:05.she will be hoping to avoid any incidents on two wheels. That is

:21:06. > :21:11.quite a comfortable position to be in. The only way effectively,

:21:12. > :21:15.assuming she does not come 17th, the only way somebody else could win the

:21:16. > :21:19.world title today is if when your guns and does not finish the race.

:21:20. > :21:23.Barring a disaster she has got to have a complete meltdown, which will

:21:24. > :21:30.not happen, we have seen her in the interviews, in the prerace, we saw

:21:31. > :21:34.her on the start line, she looked very relaxed. She thinks this is her

:21:35. > :21:39.turn. Four consecutive wins that she had in the series. She really

:21:40. > :21:45.deserves it. You cannot discount her, she may come off the bicycle to

:21:46. > :21:50.minutes down, and yet you know that she can still eat her way up through

:21:51. > :21:54.the field and close the gap, and over ten kilometres in particular,

:21:55. > :21:57.over five: It is of course it is more straightforward for her, but

:21:58. > :22:03.over ten kilometres she has got time, and she can close the gap. You

:22:04. > :22:07.cannot discount her, she has taken massive chunks of time out of her

:22:08. > :22:12.opponents during the course of the season. We have got so used to

:22:13. > :22:18.seeing it. Sarah Groff, the winner of the stock on Sprint last weekend,

:22:19. > :22:23.ahead of Hewitt and Nicky Samuels. She was absolutely delighted with

:22:24. > :22:28.that win. Having been so close. Her boyfriend is a member of the USA

:22:29. > :22:38.track and field team. He came to watch are had taken the time. It was

:22:39. > :22:42.a very happy moments. An athlete I love to watch race, incredibly

:22:43. > :22:47.strong, what she lacks is a little bit of self belief, and I think the

:22:48. > :22:50.result in Stockholm will have given her the extra belief that she needs.

:22:51. > :22:58.She is slightly shocked when she does! But she deserves it, she is

:22:59. > :23:02.one of the best in the world. I'm excited to see her race here. Just

:23:03. > :23:09.what you are saying about the run, Gwen Jorgensen, needing about two

:23:10. > :23:14.minutes. On a slightly -- one of the slightly weaker runners, you can see

:23:15. > :23:20.her, having a fight, she has some fate, she has somebody right next to

:23:21. > :23:27.her. It is tight, very tight. We have found that -- we have found

:23:28. > :23:31.Gwen Jorgensen, it can take a while to see her. They should wear

:23:32. > :23:36.swimming caps with their national flags on, Matthew Pinsent came up

:23:37. > :23:40.with that, it would make things so easy. Canadian Maple Leaf, union

:23:41. > :23:44.flag, stars and stripes, etc. And then with a number to boot, it would

:23:45. > :23:49.be so much easier to pick out the swimmers. They used to do something

:23:50. > :23:54.similar with coloured hats but they had to do something different,

:23:55. > :23:59.because athletes could be targeted in the water! They may have an idea

:24:00. > :24:08.of who they are summing next to, but not for sure. And that is number 39,

:24:09. > :24:12.that is... Yes, the Spaniard, she is traditionally first out of the

:24:13. > :24:16.water, and she does make it with the leaders generally towards the end of

:24:17. > :24:22.it, second transition, hanging up her bike and things inevitably go

:24:23. > :24:31.backwards for her. That is the Spanish competitor, Carolina

:24:32. > :24:37.Routier. A cardiac problem for the boyfriend of Angela Hewitt, Lauren

:24:38. > :24:41.Vidal, she had a very difficult mid part of the season, dreadful news

:24:42. > :24:48.for her, he is improving all of the time. They get to the end of the

:24:49. > :24:53.swim. Carolina Routier a has led since they began. She is first to

:24:54. > :24:55.break across the sand to head to the transition. Then there is a group

:24:56. > :25:18.behind, including Margit Vanek. Now, Gwen Jorgensen is with the

:25:19. > :25:41.leaders. What a group it is. Did you catch

:25:42. > :25:44.Jodie Stimpson? I did not catch her name coming up on the leaderboard as

:25:45. > :25:48.they came through. We will find out what has happened to her a little

:25:49. > :25:56.bit later on but meanwhile they come in the swim. The Canadians with

:25:57. > :25:58.Wendy focus on Kirsten Sweetland. Gwen Jorgensen, arriving, looking

:25:59. > :26:06.pretty comfortable with the golden number one on her upper arms, time

:26:07. > :26:11.for multitasking. Dumping it in the box, needs to make sure that hits

:26:12. > :26:15.the target. Cycle helmet goes on, those up the line, shoes already

:26:16. > :26:19.attached to the pedals and now there is a steady stream of cyclists

:26:20. > :26:29.leaving transition after the swim, and heading out on to the first of

:26:30. > :26:35.these 211 K laps, to be followed by four 5.3 laps, and I hope that it

:26:36. > :26:46.will all become clearer as the race unfolds. --'s 11 kilometre laps.

:26:47. > :26:53.-- two 11 kilometre laps. Gwen Jorgensen looking very relaxed, not

:26:54. > :26:58.rushing at all, she knows she has got to play it safe. She has got to

:26:59. > :27:01.put two minutes into the best runners. The average pack runners,

:27:02. > :27:06.they need three or four minutes on her. This front pack, Kirsten

:27:07. > :27:09.Sweetland, and as you mentioned earlier, she really has come into

:27:10. > :27:14.her own this year 's. Fantastic athlete, former world junior

:27:15. > :27:18.championship. Out with injury for around five years. Certainly an

:27:19. > :27:30.athlete I really rate and I think that she's going to be a big threat.

:27:31. > :27:34.They have just turned left, and Gwen Jorgensen, she very nearly collided

:27:35. > :27:40.with the motorcycle camera. That would have been a dreadful start.

:27:41. > :27:44.There was a yelp and the sudden diversion to the left. Goodness,

:27:45. > :27:52.that was close. I hope your gains and do any damage. -- Jorgensen

:27:53. > :27:57.didn't do any damage. She is pushing hard to bridge the gap to the

:27:58. > :28:00.leading group. A scary moment indeed, and it goes to show that

:28:01. > :28:05.that bit of extra pressure, she wants it so much and has been close

:28:06. > :28:09.twice before to being in this position, and here we can see the

:28:10. > :28:17.gap, a big pack of around 15 athletes, and they are chasing the

:28:18. > :28:21.second group. , I think that is Gwen Jorgensen. They are on the bridge,

:28:22. > :28:26.on the left-hand lane. It is Jorgensen. She has the leaders in

:28:27. > :28:35.her light, so not dashing her side, so not a bad start for Jorgensen. --

:28:36. > :28:42.so not a bad start for Jorgensen. A bit of a spaghetti Junction affair

:28:43. > :28:47.here as they come back and down and under the road. After they crossed

:28:48. > :28:51.the bridge, they merge onto the valley road for a flat 1500 metres,

:28:52. > :29:00.and then they will turn left and client. I would like to see a bit

:29:01. > :29:04.more urgency in the front pack. If they turned round and saw the Gwen

:29:05. > :29:08.Jorgensen was 50 metres back, they would work harder, but it doesn't

:29:09. > :29:12.look like anyone is working hard. Gwen Jorgensen is in good company.

:29:13. > :29:17.The second pack has caught up with her, so that will help her out no

:29:18. > :29:22.end. About 200 metres there, I would say, between first and second packs

:29:23. > :29:27.and the first contains Gwen Jorgensen. I think it is about ten

:29:28. > :29:36.seconds between the leaders and chasers. The leaders include Lucy

:29:37. > :29:41.Hall, Matt Allwright is up there. Paula Finley from Canada is up there

:29:42. > :29:46.with the leaders. She has been someone who to three years ago was

:29:47. > :29:52.touted as being the next big thing, but we have not seen much of this

:29:53. > :29:55.season. In 2010, I thought that was somebody we would be watching in the

:29:56. > :30:01.future and she had five victories in the period of 2010 until 2011 and

:30:02. > :30:06.then had a horrible hip injury that was managed very poorly. I did not

:30:07. > :30:11.think we would see her back racing but she has just joined ranks with

:30:12. > :30:22.Lindley, because she won the World Championship race in 2001 and is now

:30:23. > :30:29.coaching Paula Finley. The animation here is showing you the difference

:30:30. > :30:40.between the chasers and the leaders as Sarah Groff... No, that is her

:30:41. > :30:46.see of the USA. We will go back to the front of the chasing group. It

:30:47. > :30:51.is a middle order in the chase group. Jorgensen is tucked in there.

:30:52. > :30:55.I definitely higher pace from the chasers than we saw from the

:30:56. > :31:00.leaders, so certainly making inroads, or making inroads to the

:31:01. > :31:06.leaders and I think that gap and 13 seconds is coming down, shrinking

:31:07. > :31:12.all the time. Pamela Lee Viera pushing the pack. She is known as a

:31:13. > :31:15.swimmer -- Pamela Olly bearer. A lot of people talking about how strong

:31:16. > :31:20.she has been on the bike. We can see the deficit had shrunk. Around five

:31:21. > :31:26.or ten seconds between first and second. They are right out into the

:31:27. > :31:32.main city roads of Edmonton. The traffic has been shut down on the

:31:33. > :31:41.Saturday afternoon as they start a steady climb and it is quite a tough

:31:42. > :31:44.climb, severe climb up and around the Alberta legislative building.

:31:45. > :31:49.They will have a right turn at the top, followed by three left turns,

:31:50. > :31:57.then they go through an underground tunnel leading to a high level

:31:58. > :32:00.Bridge. I am just naming these landmarks although some of you might

:32:01. > :32:05.know your way around the city of Edmonton. Here is the left-hander at

:32:06. > :32:16.the top. That is the front pack, just about catching up. More scenic

:32:17. > :32:24.part of the triathlon. It looks like a mini White House, the legislative

:32:25. > :32:27.building of Alberto -- Alberta. You can see the distant splashing up,

:32:28. > :32:36.the distance that is ticking down since they started the ride. It is a

:32:37. > :32:43.quirky number. 43.2 with the different laps involved. Just

:32:44. > :32:47.noticing Kirsten Sweetland, in Stockholm last week, she was

:32:48. > :32:51.obviously under par with a cold, but very strong on the bike as we saw in

:32:52. > :32:56.the Commonwealth Games. A surprise to see her sitting at the back of

:32:57. > :33:02.the pack. It could suggest that she has not totally recovered from the

:33:03. > :33:07.cold she had. They ride straight in front of the main entrance to the

:33:08. > :33:10.Alberta legislative building. A couple of ramps have been covered

:33:11. > :33:16.over with carpet to make sure the ride is a little bit smoother. They

:33:17. > :33:22.will come back one more time, and is that Jorgensen? Just slightly

:33:23. > :33:27.pushing as she might have a problem with her gears. She doesn't look so

:33:28. > :33:33.comfortable and seems to be struggling with the course. It is

:33:34. > :33:35.technical, it is hilly and we know she does not have that much

:33:36. > :33:40.experience in biking. She's only been racing since 2010 but she has

:33:41. > :33:46.proved through the season that she has improved dramatically, and we

:33:47. > :33:54.have seen a few crashes and inexperienced mistakes. She has

:33:55. > :33:59.have seen a few crashes and but she said she only bought her

:34:00. > :34:01.first road bike in 2010, which is incredibly recent somebody now the

:34:02. > :34:09.first road bike in 2010, which is top of their triathlon standings.

:34:10. > :34:14.Now they come face-to-face with the rage drivers caught in the queues

:34:15. > :34:18.because part of road network was shot off -- shot off but it won't be

:34:19. > :34:23.good too long because they only do this lap twice. Two laps of 11

:34:24. > :34:28.kilometres, and this course is proving to be a bit harder than some

:34:29. > :34:32.of the athletes might have liked. Just looking here. Hewitt is tucked

:34:33. > :34:46.in nicely. Lucy Hall from Great Britain, and no sign of Jodie

:34:47. > :34:50.Stimpson yet. Difficult to catch the names and numbers at high speed

:34:51. > :34:54.here. We hope to get a full list of runners and riders as they cross the

:34:55. > :35:01.finishing line at the end of the first lap. They are hidden away from

:35:02. > :35:06.us now. The pace for me has definitely picked up. Somebody has

:35:07. > :35:13.committed to making this bike race hard and fast, and why not? That is

:35:14. > :35:16.why you are there. In such a strong position in the rankings, but it is

:35:17. > :35:23.still open. If she does not finish in the top 16, and it's not over

:35:24. > :35:29.until the fat lady sings. Lucy Hall is on the front, getting a bit

:35:30. > :35:32.annoyed with some of the athletes who are not moving. She's very

:35:33. > :35:38.vocal. I don't blame her. She's saying they've got a gap and let's

:35:39. > :35:44.make the most of it. A bit of an argument between Lucy Hall and some

:35:45. > :35:49.of the others. A bit of Alistair Brownlee action. 28 seconds is the

:35:50. > :35:54.gap to Jorgensen. We are wondering if she has a problem. She seems to

:35:55. > :35:59.be pushing a big idea. Maybe she had a technical issue, but she's OK. 28

:36:00. > :36:03.seconds off the pace, but not too much for her to worry about. They

:36:04. > :36:08.have finished crossing through the so-called high level Bridge which

:36:09. > :36:19.gives expansive views of the river valley below and then they hit 80

:36:20. > :36:22.seventh Ave here, coming towards the University of Edmonton area. This is

:36:23. > :36:25.the front pack. Some of the athletes have ridden up from the second

:36:26. > :36:30.pack, but some have been dropped, the likes of Jorgensen but she has

:36:31. > :36:34.dropped back and we have the Kiwi athletes. Nicky Samuels and Kate

:36:35. > :36:43.Matt Allwright will stop is that Hewitt? Samuels having that

:36:44. > :36:49.fantastic race, first time on the podium. And Hewitt is really taking

:36:50. > :36:58.the race on. For me, one of those athletes you can never discount. So

:36:59. > :37:05.much experience and so consistent. That is where we are. We have one

:37:06. > :37:12.down? Who is that? Is it Jorgensen? No, it's not Jorgensen. Somebody has

:37:13. > :37:18.hit the deck hard. This is worrying. It looks like number 21 from Japan.

:37:19. > :37:21.Yes, it is. A strong athlete, great racing this year. Fourth in

:37:22. > :37:29.Yokohama, and that is a nasty crash will stop she hit the curb. She hit

:37:30. > :37:35.the curb with her right shoulder, and that, home my goodness, that is

:37:36. > :37:40.gushing blood. Thankfully somebody is there with a bottle of water to

:37:41. > :37:48.keep it clean and stem the flow and hopefully the medics will be there

:37:49. > :37:54.sharply. That is a nasty fall. She has had a really consistent season.

:37:55. > :38:04.She is the first serious casualty of this tight, technical course so far.

:38:05. > :38:14.Juri Ide, her team-mate is riding alongside Sarah Groff at the back.

:38:15. > :38:18.Olivera is there as well. Sarah Groff still in contention for the

:38:19. > :38:22.title. Surprised she is not further up the front. You don't want to get

:38:23. > :38:30.too far back. If somebody makes a break, you have to be near the front

:38:31. > :38:34.to go with it. I saw the number one on the triathlete's arm, and I

:38:35. > :38:36.wondered if it was the one that belongs to Jorgensen, then I

:38:37. > :38:42.remembered it was a golden number one and it couldn't be. Thankfully

:38:43. > :38:50.it is not Jorgensen, but that was a really heavy fall. Lucy Hall, on the

:38:51. > :38:57.front, and she knows that they have to bike hard. She finished ninth in

:38:58. > :39:00.Stockholm, which was her first top ten in the World Triathlon Series,

:39:01. > :39:05.and great to see her really rallying the group and making them work. I

:39:06. > :39:13.don't think she will give anybody an easy time. Various Sarah Groff, and

:39:14. > :39:20.we know Jorgensen is number one. We know that Groff is number two. Where

:39:21. > :39:23.is Jodie Stimpson, number three? She had did not finish in Stockholm last

:39:24. > :39:29.weekend and failed to finish the sprint distance. We are wondering

:39:30. > :39:34.where she is positioned within the final race of the season in

:39:35. > :39:38.Edmonton. It is a shame if she does not finish well up in the race. She

:39:39. > :39:42.has had a fantastic season and is still ranked third in the world.

:39:43. > :39:46.There is something to be said for winning a gold medal, the

:39:47. > :39:52.Commonwealth Games, in Scotland. Virtually on home soil, and perhaps

:39:53. > :39:58.the media stuff afterwards, we know she is a disciplined athlete, but

:39:59. > :40:02.perhaps a little bit worn out. Her season started in Auckland where she

:40:03. > :40:08.took the first race, then Cape Town. Perhaps just a little bit fatigued

:40:09. > :40:14.as we reach September and the end of the triathlon season, certainly for

:40:15. > :40:17.these athletes. I think I did her a disservice by saying she did not

:40:18. > :40:23.finish in Stockholm. She did not finish in the top ten, but she did

:40:24. > :40:28.finish the race. For us, so unusual not to see her in the top ten. She

:40:29. > :40:36.is always up there, even if she is having an off day, she is around the

:40:37. > :40:39.top five. Paula Finlay, and her coach who won the World

:40:40. > :40:43.Championships in 2001 will be very happy with her performance. She said

:40:44. > :40:47.she was not going to the victory, she was going in to get the feeling

:40:48. > :40:54.of racing again, and to just enjoy it. She had such a disappointing

:40:55. > :40:59.time for over three years. Back to the park where it all began, the

:41:00. > :41:04.lead group having negotiated the majority of the first lap of 11

:41:05. > :41:10.kilometres, so they will have to do it again. It has been a funny old

:41:11. > :41:15.ride with a bit of city, a bit of river bank, the countryside, and

:41:16. > :41:20.downtown Edmonton is featuring as well, crossing rivers that would be

:41:21. > :41:27.normally clogged with traffic. A real mix of scenery for the

:41:28. > :41:33.triathletes in Edmonton. Paula Finlay at the back of the front

:41:34. > :41:39.group. The two Germans just keeping out of trouble. Nicky Samuels is in

:41:40. > :41:43.front of them. Olivera at the back of the lead group, and there is the

:41:44. > :41:49.chasing group which contains the world number one, Gwen Jorgensen.

:41:50. > :41:56.And she has a bit of a rash on her left thigh which we spotted. We

:41:57. > :42:01.think that is damage that might have been done today, or it was an injury

:42:02. > :42:04.picked up earlier. It looked like a bit of road rash, and I might have

:42:05. > :42:10.got it wrong, but I wonder if we've missed something. We talked about

:42:11. > :42:14.going behind the TV bike, and maybe something happened. But as we said,

:42:15. > :42:24.she has to finish in the top 16, and she is still quite capable of that.

:42:25. > :42:29.Alice Betto takes it up at the front. A good swimmer, good rider.

:42:30. > :42:36.Especially when it is down to 10,000 metre run. The time difference is

:42:37. > :42:41.still, as far as Jorgensen is concerned, a very manageable 41

:42:42. > :42:45.seconds. That is still within her capabilities, and a gap she can

:42:46. > :42:55.close down by that time she finishes this cycle and gets on to start the

:42:56. > :42:59.10,000 metre run. We see that people will have an earpiece and they will

:43:00. > :43:02.get information from their team directors, but it's different in

:43:03. > :43:11.triathlon. You do not have that with the swimming, and I wonder what the

:43:12. > :43:14.likes of Groff is thinking that Gwen Jorgensen is not there. Is there

:43:15. > :43:19.someone in the coaching team that wants to say, back off, let her get

:43:20. > :43:26.back on, but Sarah Groff is still in contention and she will not hang

:43:27. > :43:30.back but she is not doing when any favours. Andrea Hewitt is the

:43:31. > :43:54.leader. The front group is separated by just

:43:55. > :44:00.four seconds, and then will be another 36 or 37 seconds down to the

:44:01. > :44:03.chasers. We will get a full check on the members of the chasing group as

:44:04. > :44:10.and when they cross in the transition. Here they come, the

:44:11. > :44:16.chasers, and that includes Jodie Stimpson. We get our first official

:44:17. > :44:23.sighting of Stimson. Jorgensen, Sweetland there as well -- Stimpson.

:44:24. > :44:28.45 seconds off the pace. Jodie Stimpson is with them as well. That

:44:29. > :44:34.is interesting that Jodie is there with Gwen Jorgensen, because they

:44:35. > :44:40.are real rivals, real competitors in the race. Jodie is third, Gwen is

:44:41. > :44:43.third but as they stand, Gwen Jorgensen will beat Jodie because

:44:44. > :44:46.she only needs to finish in the top 16 to in finish the overall title,

:44:47. > :44:52.and that is what the figures tell us. Back with the leaders on their

:44:53. > :44:57.second long lap. To remind you, there are two long lapse to give us

:44:58. > :45:04.half the distance in the triathlon there are two long lapse to give us

:45:05. > :45:07.road race, the cycle section. 22 kilometres in total on this

:45:08. > :45:14.particular course. Then they will go on the short loop, and this is the

:45:15. > :45:23.bridge which takes them across the North Saskatchewan River. Sweetland

:45:24. > :45:30.is out, the Canadian. She is off her bike. And I do not know if she fell

:45:31. > :45:35.or has picked up an injury, but her season ends there and that is

:45:36. > :45:44.clearly an emotionally droning -- training time for Kirsten Sweetland

:45:45. > :45:47.who was silver medallist behind Jodie Stimpson and desperately

:45:48. > :45:51.wanted to do well on home turf, but she will not finish today. Fourth in

:45:52. > :45:57.Stockholm last weekend, Kirsten Sweetland. That is hugely

:45:58. > :46:00.disappointing. I have read a lot of what she has written, and she cannot

:46:01. > :46:06.believe she is back racing, and hopefully this will be a blip in

:46:07. > :46:10.what is an amazing career. She is an amazing athlete. We saw her take the

:46:11. > :46:25.silver medal in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and was fourth

:46:26. > :46:30.last weekend. I guess, like the British triathletes and the

:46:31. > :46:36.Australians on the New Zealanders, the Commonwealth game was a feature

:46:37. > :46:42.of it for Kirsten Sweetland, and she was on the podium, so she will be

:46:43. > :46:46.disappointed with today's abandonment, but she will look back

:46:47. > :46:52.on the season with pride when she has had a chance to get over the

:46:53. > :46:56.tears. I cannot work out if that is Hewitt's nodding head. Sometimes

:46:57. > :47:00.when athletes get in a rhythm, they get frustrated with other athletes,

:47:01. > :47:08.but good to see her appear. She has put herself in a great position to

:47:09. > :47:22.take a medal overall. Number 46 is Kate Mackle Roy of New Zealand. --

:47:23. > :47:25.Mackle Roy Bash McIlroy. -- McIlroy. She thought she would give triathlon

:47:26. > :47:32.alone -- ago because she was getting too many injuries on the track.

:47:33. > :47:37.Golfers paradise. They passed a few golf courses, the Mayfair golf club

:47:38. > :47:42.is one of them. That is alongside the North sat capture one river. A

:47:43. > :47:48.more scenic part of the course -- North Saskatchewan River. Then they

:47:49. > :47:53.get into the grind and grit of Saturday afternoon, and then they

:47:54. > :47:59.have the client to come up towards the domed building -- the climb.

:48:00. > :48:05.Then they go across the bridge that gives them the views across the

:48:06. > :48:10.river at 43 kilometres per hour. That is the speed of these athletes.

:48:11. > :48:20.It is quite a big group, the front group. Then there will be the big

:48:21. > :48:22.group working and group. Then there will be the big

:48:23. > :48:27.be committed. Otherwise the athletes get frustrated. Here on the hill is

:48:28. > :48:31.where we will see more get frustrated. Here on the hill is

:48:32. > :48:40.because that is where the damage was done in the first lap. The two

:48:41. > :48:44.Germans have not left each other's side for 15 kilometres or so that

:48:45. > :48:50.they have been riding, and the two New Zealanders behind them, McIlroy

:48:51. > :48:58.and Andrea Hewitt near the front, and Clark as well. For New

:48:59. > :49:04.Zealanders are in the lead group. Hewitt takes it up on the climb with

:49:05. > :49:13.Juri Ide of Japan is next best, working hard now. Hewitt is making a

:49:14. > :49:16.good job of the climb, and she enjoyed Glasgow and likes a

:49:17. > :49:21.challenging course and is working really hard. Samuels is right at the

:49:22. > :49:27.back of the pack. The other team member who did so well in

:49:28. > :49:31.Stockholm. Lucy Hall in third, the best of the British triathletes so

:49:32. > :49:38.far today. Just Hall and Stimpson in the field with Aileen Reid from

:49:39. > :49:45.Ireland. Such a shame not to see the other British athletes like Stanford

:49:46. > :49:50.and Jenkins. Holland as well. But that is racing for you. That is

:49:51. > :49:55.elite sport. Three of the top athletes did well when they return,

:49:56. > :49:58.like Helen Jenkins after a long time out following the injury that took a

:49:59. > :50:06.long time to be diagnosed following the Olympics. We will look at Gwen

:50:07. > :50:12.Jorgensen. 41 seconds the last time we got the checkpoint time in front

:50:13. > :50:16.of the legislative building. 51 seconds is still in her grasp. It's

:50:17. > :50:23.growing, but not impossibly so, the gap. Not a disaster. She would not

:50:24. > :50:27.have liked to see herself there at this point in the race, but 51

:50:28. > :50:35.seconds, if she can keep it below two minutes, this World Championship

:50:36. > :50:37.title is surely hers. We have got plenty of triathletes on the sick

:50:38. > :50:43.list from the British point of view. Helen Jenkins, who returned to

:50:44. > :50:47.competitive action and finished third in Auckland and backed it up

:50:48. > :50:54.with second behind Jodie Stimpson in Cape Town, and Non Stanford, who won

:50:55. > :50:57.the world title in Hyde Park this time last year. Am I right in

:50:58. > :51:06.thinking she had a stop and go penalty? Then it was stopped, and

:51:07. > :51:12.she was made to stand still for 15 seconds and the similar event to

:51:13. > :51:19.what happened to Jonathan Brownlee. She took the 15 second punishment at

:51:20. > :51:26.the grand final a year ago, but sadly we have not seen her competing

:51:27. > :51:30.ones so far. We know she was at the Commonwealth Games commentating, and

:51:31. > :51:38.we hope she continues her recovery and will return to racing in the 20

:51:39. > :51:47.15th season. We don't know when it starts. We know it finishes in

:51:48. > :51:54.Chicago, but we have no more dates and venues yet. A few athletes have

:51:55. > :51:58.said they don't like so many sprint races in the World Triathlon Series,

:51:59. > :52:07.so I wonder if the ITU will finish that. These guys are used to racing

:52:08. > :52:13.over two hours, and it has been a tough year in terms of travel. They

:52:14. > :52:18.had to go to Cape Town, then Yokohama, and a lot of the athletes,

:52:19. > :52:24.having raced in Stockholm, in Europe, that is an eight hour time

:52:25. > :52:30.difference. That is a tough time to race well with a week of recovery.

:52:31. > :52:34.Round six was hamburg, round seven was Stockholm and they are back on

:52:35. > :52:37.the other side of the world for the grand finale, so a lot of crossing

:52:38. > :52:42.of the Atlantic Ocean to make the races. Most of these triathletes

:52:43. > :52:48.don't travel business class. It is not at that level yet. No, I had

:52:49. > :52:52.anything too many of these guys earn the money to travel business class.

:52:53. > :52:59.Gwen Jorgensen, I recognise her style, just behind Aileen Reid.

:53:00. > :53:07.Jodie Stimpson is there as well, the number 58, I think that is Flora

:53:08. > :53:12.Duffy from Bermuda. A strong rider. She will be helping the girls out.

:53:13. > :53:17.But we have seen on the climb where the athletes drop-off, they cannot

:53:18. > :53:23.hang on. It is a long climb. Flora Duffy from Bermuda was eighth in the

:53:24. > :53:30.Commonwealth Games. The chasing group are being pushed along by

:53:31. > :53:33.Jodie Stimpson. This bridge is high above the river and you don't want

:53:34. > :53:38.to look down, and you don't have much chance. It is up on stilts.

:53:39. > :53:42.They are completing the river crossing before they had up towards

:53:43. > :53:49.the university area, and then they turn right to go back to the park,

:53:50. > :53:55.and that will complete this long lap section of the 43.2 alarm at a bike

:53:56. > :53:58.ride. It is tough for the athletes but they will have done their

:53:59. > :54:03.homework. It's your responsibility to know how many laps you have to

:54:04. > :54:07.do. Gwen Jorgensen still struggling to hang onto the pack. She is a tall

:54:08. > :54:15.and slim athlete but perhaps won't enjoy the climbs as much as say

:54:16. > :54:23.Andrea Hewitt. It's a lot tougher for at all athlete to climb the

:54:24. > :54:26.hills than the smaller athletes. It doesn't look like she is enjoying

:54:27. > :54:32.herself today, but she just asked to hang on to hang onto the group and

:54:33. > :54:35.keep the distance to a minimum, or as small as possible, around two

:54:36. > :54:48.minutes, which will give her the title for sure. Somewhere in the

:54:49. > :55:01.concrete jungle of the world 's best triathletes. -- are the world 's

:55:02. > :55:08.best triathletes. They complete this second, long circuit of the city.

:55:09. > :55:16.It looks like Paula Findlay is doing a good job of hanging on in this

:55:17. > :55:24.race, her first time back racing in the World Triathlon Series since

:55:25. > :55:31.2011, over three years now. Lucy Hall taking it up at the front of

:55:32. > :55:34.the field. Hewitt, not far behind. Beto of Italy is taking her turn to

:55:35. > :55:40.push them along -- Alice Betto. As they head back towards the park for

:55:41. > :55:46.the end of this second lap, then they have the four short laps of

:55:47. > :55:49.five and a half kilometres each. Now is the time the concentration

:55:50. > :55:54.because it will be a different navigation system required for the

:55:55. > :56:01.next lap. I don't think we have ever seen this before here, the different

:56:02. > :56:05.lengths of laps on the bike. I don't think we have. I think what will

:56:06. > :56:09.happen in transition, when they come through and take the next lap, there

:56:10. > :56:12.will be somebody there saying that the two longer laps are done and

:56:13. > :56:17.then they will go to for laps. Hopefully they will be well directed

:56:18. > :56:21.and they won't have anybody going of course. By the time they complete

:56:22. > :56:29.the second lap back in the Park, they will be about halfway through

:56:30. > :56:37.the bike leg. So with 23.7 kilometres still to ride. Going to

:56:38. > :56:42.be interesting to see the time difference. Still 17 and it was a

:56:43. > :56:47.group of 18. It is a group of six within the chase pack. They are led

:56:48. > :56:52.at the moment by Jodie Stimpson. The winner in Auckland and Cape Town,

:56:53. > :56:58.Stimpson then had an accident when she tripped over her bike in

:56:59. > :57:02.transition in Yokohama. Paula Findlay hanging off the back as they

:57:03. > :57:05.come down the hill. If you haven't raced for a while, you need to get

:57:06. > :57:10.back in the swing, get used to riding in the pack and descending

:57:11. > :57:17.fast. Just hanging off the back and playing it safe. The manicured

:57:18. > :57:22.fast. Just hanging off the back and of the golf course alongside. Now

:57:23. > :57:26.they start to see the blue and white, signalling that the central

:57:27. > :57:34.hub area of transition is approaching. This is going to give

:57:35. > :57:44.us a chance to check on the time difference between the leaders and

:57:45. > :57:47.the chases, and it is 41 seconds midway through the first lap, 51

:57:48. > :57:55.through the second, by the end of the second lap, we expected to have

:57:56. > :57:57.grown a little further. -- chasers. Gwen Jorgensen will be hoping not

:57:58. > :58:12.too much. They have got to circumnavigate the

:58:13. > :58:16.lake where the swim took place earlier, then they have got to go

:58:17. > :58:21.back one more time, before the short laps, and the gap has not grown too

:58:22. > :58:26.much between the legislative building and the flat finish,

:58:27. > :58:30.54 seconds. Only three seconds greater, the gap between the leaders

:58:31. > :58:33.and the chasers. Certainly a few seconds down, putting quite a lot of

:58:34. > :58:53.time into them. Lucy Wall still giving

:58:54. > :59:01.instructions, still pointing down. She seems unhappy with things. --

:59:02. > :59:05.Lucy Hall. I would say, good on her, for getting the girls to work,

:59:06. > :59:10.but that will be at the cost of her own energy. Try to get momentum

:59:11. > :59:14.going, try to get teamwork, but in fact, if you continue to get wound

:59:15. > :59:18.up, then you are going to burn energy, you don't need to do that,

:59:19. > :59:23.when you still have half of the bike and ten kilometres on the run to go.

:59:24. > :59:33.Chase group, 58 leading them at the moment, Flora Duffy, from Bermuda.

:59:34. > :59:40.Trying to catch who it is in second place, looking like Aileen Reid,

:59:41. > :59:44.perhaps Jodie Stimpson. The world number one, keeping out of trouble

:59:45. > :00:00.there, doing what is necessary, Gwen Jorgensen, big day for her today.

:00:01. > :00:07.Back with the leaders, Sarah Groff and Katie Hersey. Two Americans, who

:00:08. > :00:22.have been busy at the front, doing a lot of work. -- Katie Hursey. Coming

:00:23. > :00:26.up to the transition area, in front of a packed grandstand to complete

:00:27. > :00:32.the second lap, and the trifling approaching 55 minutes in duration,

:00:33. > :01:17.four short laps to go. First four through.

:01:18. > :01:22.Simon Whitfield was the first Olympic medallist in 2000 from

:01:23. > :01:28.Canada. Montgomery took the first Commonwealth Games gold medal.

:01:29. > :01:36.Second pack coming through. 57 seconds on the clock. 57, 58,

:01:37. > :01:40.getting on for a minute... We have got another one down and that is a

:01:41. > :01:48.big shunt, one of the Italians has hit the deck hard. She lost control

:01:49. > :01:58.on the right-handed turn, and she has done some damage to the bike as

:01:59. > :02:02.well. That was Annamaria Mazzetti and she bounced back up very quickly

:02:03. > :02:06.and bravely but look at that, damage done to the elbow. I do not know

:02:07. > :02:12.what happened, there is no grease, she is not in the wet, she's made of

:02:13. > :02:15.hard stuff, she came down pretty hard but it is going to be pretty

:02:16. > :02:21.difficult for her, having lost second one. Second big crash of the

:02:22. > :02:42.afternoon. They are on their way for the first

:02:43. > :03:22.of the shorter laps. The course has been all -- altered.

:03:23. > :03:30.Too difficult to keep the traffic at bay. Interesting one, not that big

:03:31. > :03:36.in terms of the number of people living there, just over a million

:03:37. > :03:39.people, it is a Saturday. Certainly making it interesting, keeping

:03:40. > :03:42.athletes on their toes, which is always good. Second place overall in

:03:43. > :04:06.the rankings. First out of the water, Carolina

:04:07. > :04:15.Routier. Sarah Groff there. Still has an outside chance of taking the

:04:16. > :04:20.title today. Not to put too fine a point on it. Katie Hursey, she has

:04:21. > :04:34.been touted as a rising star, we will look to 2014 to see the best of

:04:35. > :04:38.her. This is the new course. Grand series final of the British

:04:39. > :04:43.trifling, the series. She went out there and raised in Liverpool, a lot

:04:44. > :04:50.of time on the bike, came off, one minute 40 behind, Sophie Caldwell,

:04:51. > :04:53.ran her down to the finish line. Goes to show, she went out of

:04:54. > :04:57.transition like a ball out of a china shop. Incredible to see just

:04:58. > :05:09.how much faster she is then the other girls. -- bull. Bull. And they

:05:10. > :05:15.were cold wet and windy conditions, very difficult conditions. That was

:05:16. > :05:21.two weeks ago, she obviously flew straight to Edmonton and has had two

:05:22. > :05:26.weeks to acclimatise. Recuperate, yes. Nice day here today, shorts and

:05:27. > :05:33.T-shirt weather for much of the crowd. 18 degrees, temperature at

:05:34. > :05:38.the start. Due to nudge the mid-20s later in the afternoon.

:05:39. > :05:56.Jodie Stimpson, Gwen Jorgensen. Interesting, these two athletes.

:05:57. > :06:00.Haskins was touted as being a domestic, for Gwen Jorgensen, that

:06:01. > :06:05.does not seem to have worked out. Sarah Haskins as well has had her

:06:06. > :06:11.problems, she had a baby and a stress fracture, she has had

:06:12. > :06:15.difficult times. She can swim, she has a lot of experience in this

:06:16. > :06:19.race, and so I would be surprised if they did not put her name. As it

:06:20. > :06:23.happens, they have put her in not the group she wanted but a group

:06:24. > :06:27.which is probably going to do enough work to see that she takes the

:06:28. > :06:33.overall title. So having Haskins was more of an exactly. Time difference,

:06:34. > :06:35.a few seconds more than when we saw them go through on the second lap of

:06:36. > :06:47.11 kilometres. Just got to keep herself out of

:06:48. > :06:57.trouble. No climbing on the shortened lap, which is lap three of

:06:58. > :07:05.six. I wonder what is going through the mind of Stimson, she has been

:07:06. > :07:09.such a strong swimmer, we have seen her every time in the front pack,

:07:10. > :07:11.the last two races, she has been quite a bit off the pace by her

:07:12. > :07:15.standards, but as I mentioned, Commonwealth Games, after that

:07:16. > :07:20.victory, hats she has backed off a little. Little bit of pressure

:07:21. > :07:25.media, that has left her slightly fatigue. She certainly not the

:07:26. > :07:34.athlete we are used to seeing in these races. -- she is certainly not

:07:35. > :07:42.the athlete we are used to seeing in these races. Pamela Oliveira, Lucy

:07:43. > :07:47.since the Commonwealth Games I have had to think about it because I had

:07:48. > :07:52.to teach myself to say, "England", "Scotland" or whatever, now they are

:07:53. > :07:56.back in British colours, I have got to remind myself to say it properly.

:07:57. > :08:03.Lucy Hall of Great Britain rather than Lucy Hall of England! LAUGHTER

:08:04. > :08:07.The spectators getting to see a bit more of the athletes, these loops,

:08:08. > :08:14.just over five kilometres, four of them, and this is the first one.

:08:15. > :08:17.There is three to go. Here they come, to complete the end of the

:08:18. > :08:23.third lap. We will get a check on the time difference, it was around

:08:24. > :08:29.one minute, looking at 60 seconds or so at the end of the second long

:08:30. > :08:33.lap. The end of the first short lap. Gwen Jorgensen is going to hope that

:08:34. > :08:39.it has not grown significantly further.

:08:40. > :08:45.It is hard when an athlete has been so successful and strong throughout

:08:46. > :08:50.the season, you love to see a good race, you love to see athletes

:08:51. > :09:04.giving it a go but at the end of the day you have got to say, Gwen

:09:05. > :09:09.Jorgensen deserves this. Assuming she has got her regular running

:09:10. > :09:27.capabilities with her as well. Gwen Jorgensen keeping out of

:09:28. > :09:34.trouble at the back of the group of eight. That is where we lost the

:09:35. > :09:37.Italian on the left-hand on the right-handed turn, negotiated

:09:38. > :09:42.successfully, the leaders are one minute and eight seconds clear of

:09:43. > :09:46.the chasers. When we have been so successful throughout a season, this

:09:47. > :09:50.is the deciding race. If you does not win but she comes top 16, she is

:09:51. > :09:55.the world champion. She will want to come here and went and show the

:09:56. > :09:59.world that she can win the final as well as the overall series. In this

:10:00. > :10:04.group we are probably looking at and Hewitt as a threat, she can probably

:10:05. > :10:11.run within about a minute, a minute and a half, on a good day. Sarah

:10:12. > :10:15.Groff as well. Yes, she had... She beat Hewitt last week, she is an

:10:16. > :10:19.incredibly strong athlete, and I think yes, she would like to make a

:10:20. > :10:23.point, even if you did not take the overall title, she can say, I won

:10:24. > :10:28.here today. Beating Gwen Jorgensen, it was not a hollow victory at all,

:10:29. > :10:32.in Stockholm, but it was not a victory over Gwen Jorgensen, and she

:10:33. > :10:40.would dearly love to win the final stage of the series and take Gwen

:10:41. > :10:45.Jorgensen out along the way. . These other time differences, the way they

:10:46. > :10:50.have grown, up to one minute and eight at the end of lap three, we

:10:51. > :10:55.still have three short laps to go, 15 K, still to write, until they

:10:56. > :11:06.park up the bicycles and get ready for the 10,000 metre foot race,

:11:07. > :11:11.which involves 42 kilometre laps. Canada has such a history in the

:11:12. > :11:15.sport, the headquarters are in Vancouver, numerous World Series

:11:16. > :11:20.events, World Cup events, Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver 2008, the

:11:21. > :11:27.incredible race, the water was exceptionally cold, and it was

:11:28. > :11:31.Haskins who came second to Helen Jenkins, when she took her

:11:32. > :11:39.first-ever World Championship title. And who won the men's? Was it Tim

:11:40. > :11:43.Don? I think perhaps it was. We will have to check notes on that one.

:11:44. > :11:51.Certainly winning it in 2006, in Lausanne.

:11:52. > :12:08.Michael Rock on on the front, for New Zealand. Angela Hewitt as well.

:12:09. > :12:13.-- Michael. -- McIlroy. Angela Hewitt is a very well liked

:12:14. > :12:19.athlete, I think that Samuels, if she

:12:20. > :12:26.-- if she and McIlroy can help her out there and I am sure that they

:12:27. > :12:32.will. She likes hard bikes, she always says she runs very well off

:12:33. > :12:39.the tough bikes, setting herself up well for the ten K race. 15

:12:40. > :12:46.kilometres to go on this 43.2 kilometre bike course.

:12:47. > :12:53.Sarah Groff, the United States, second overall in the rankings,

:12:54. > :13:01.sitting around in a place. Great overhead shots. Chase group here

:13:02. > :13:06.now, Jodie Stimpson, second place. Gwen Jorgensen, third place. Aileen

:13:07. > :13:11.Reid is there as well, one of those athletes that will blow hot and

:13:12. > :13:16.cold, and has to grace in London. Final race in 2013, where she came

:13:17. > :13:19.second. One of those athletes, you never know what she is going to

:13:20. > :13:29.deliver on the day. I'm not sure if that Mark is for

:13:30. > :13:35.today or from another day, there is certainly a mark there. Nothing to

:13:36. > :13:39.worry about, she came into collision with a motorcycle. She has had a few

:13:40. > :13:43.crashes in the past, looks like an old scar. Fingers crossed that will

:13:44. > :13:49.not happen again today. The worst part, much more technical, a lot

:13:50. > :14:01.harder and a lot more hilly than these four short, 5.3 alarm at a

:14:02. > :14:04.loops. -- 5.3 kilometre loops. World Triathlon Series, wonderful

:14:05. > :14:19.conditions began in April in Auckland. Various Olympic distances

:14:20. > :14:26.and sprint distances, tackled. Glory for some, injury and heartache for

:14:27. > :14:30.others. All comes down to the distribution of the world titles,

:14:31. > :14:36.used to be a one-off race to decide who would be the world champion, but

:14:37. > :14:39.now you are not the world champion unless you finish top of the

:14:40. > :14:42.standings at the end of the World Triathlon Series programme. Makes it

:14:43. > :14:46.more tough, makes it more interesting for the viewers as well,

:14:47. > :14:50.it is like the Formula One setup, goes right down to the wire. Because

:14:51. > :14:57.here there is points and a half, normally for a when you take 800,

:14:58. > :15:00.here you take 1200 points. Leaves it a little bit open. Gwen Jorgensen

:15:01. > :15:05.has been so dominant that it has made it more difficult. Down to the

:15:06. > :15:06.last race. You cannot be 100% sure of who will take the title. Talking

:15:07. > :15:11.about the old system, individual single race travelling,

:15:12. > :15:18.Tim Don did it, 2006, individual single race travelling,

:15:19. > :15:23.when Tim became the world champion, anything 17 seconds ahead of Hamish

:15:24. > :15:27.Carter, himself, 2004 Olympic champion. Athens. Now he has gone

:15:28. > :15:35.long, I expect we will see him over the next year or two, Tim, doing

:15:36. > :15:39.well over the mid-distance. Hawaii. One short of iron, is that the

:15:40. > :15:43.stepping stone between Olympic distance and iron man? It is half

:15:44. > :15:48.the distance, it is still a four hour race, Ironman is eight hours.

:15:49. > :15:54.That is Kate Michael right, on the front, really working hard. -- Kate

:15:55. > :15:57.McIlroy. They have got to work really hard if they are going to

:15:58. > :16:03.make up the deficit, keep going. At the end of lap four, all the usual

:16:04. > :16:11.suspects. Grouped in, including Lucy Hall, the gap to the chasers, which

:16:12. > :16:16.is a group that contains the world number one, Gwen Jorgensen. The

:16:17. > :16:18.is a group that contains the world Stimpson... At the end of the

:16:19. > :16:23.previous lap, one minute, eight seconds behind, we will see if that

:16:24. > :16:30.has grown or if they have managed to close the gap slightly over the

:16:31. > :16:37.course of lap four. At the front, Kate, team tactics, she is working

:16:38. > :16:41.for Angela Hewitt, no chance of taking any medals in the overall

:16:42. > :16:45.rankings, and so surely she is going to be working for Angela Hewitt, who

:16:46. > :16:48.absolutely does. If she takes another medal, that will be for

:16:49. > :17:18.medal, that will be for medals he has won at World Championship level.

:17:19. > :17:26.Is going in the wrong direction as far as Gwen Jorgensen is concerned,

:17:27. > :17:32.one minute and 21, still with three laps to go. She is riding a pretty

:17:33. > :17:36.sensible race at this point, no point to try to break away and go to

:17:37. > :17:41.the front pack, tucked in with some pretty decent riders. I would not

:17:42. > :17:48.say that she is getting an easy ride, but at the moment, this race,

:17:49. > :17:52.sort of playing into their hands. There we are, getting the time

:17:53. > :18:01.difference, watching it grow throughout the race. Two laps to go,

:18:02. > :18:06.not three. Sorry. Change in distance, we have had the two long

:18:07. > :18:25.laps, they have completed the second of the four short laps. Lead group,

:18:26. > :18:31.stretched out on the open roads of Edmonton. Perfect conditions, nice

:18:32. > :18:35.to see the nice dry roads, if they were wet this would not be a great

:18:36. > :18:37.cause, it would be a tough course. Fingers crossed for the men's race,

:18:38. > :18:54.that we see similar weather. No sign of Emma Jackson...

:18:55. > :18:59.Interesting. Realise that she's not in the front or in the second pack.

:19:00. > :19:03.She was very strong this year, ranked seventh in the world, tough

:19:04. > :19:12.Commonwealth Games, right up there until around about 7.5 kilometres.

:19:13. > :19:17.She got a second-place finish, Gwen Jorgensen in hamburg. Surprised to

:19:18. > :19:20.see Emma Jackson from Australia, in either the front or the second pack.

:19:21. > :19:27.As they crossed the bridge, the leaders get to eyeball the chase

:19:28. > :19:35.group. Everybody now knows roughly who is positioned where. --

:19:36. > :19:43.Hamburg. They are now making the descent to go below the flyover.

:19:44. > :19:50.There on the clock, the kilometres ticking down. 7.85 now. That is not

:19:51. > :19:57.a lot, that is going to be around about 26 minutes of racing.

:19:58. > :20:04.No, it is going to be a little bit more, not a lot more. The leaders

:20:05. > :20:15.crossing the bridge once again. At the end of the lap they will take

:20:16. > :20:18.the Bell, to signify that they have had just 5.3 K remaining. Paula

:20:19. > :20:42.Finley. Four of New Zealand together, the

:20:43. > :20:47.lone British representative of this leading group, Hall. Sarah Groff, at

:20:48. > :20:52.the moment, pretty good shape. Therein in mind she is potentially

:20:53. > :20:57.among the top three runners within this group here. The winner most

:20:58. > :21:01.recently of the World Triathlon Series in Stockholm last weekend.

:21:02. > :21:04.Sarah Groff will begin to believe that it is possible to win here

:21:05. > :21:11.today, even with Gwen Jorgensen in the chasing group and still within

:21:12. > :21:17.90 seconds of the lead. It is a ten K race, your guns and has plenty of

:21:18. > :21:28.time, plenty of time to close the gap, to eat into Sarah Groff and the

:21:29. > :21:31.rest of the leaders advantage. She only has the finished 16th to take

:21:32. > :21:37.the title, there will be athletes she can put a good four minutes

:21:38. > :21:41.into. At the moment, she is sitting pretty and she is doing pretty OK. I

:21:42. > :21:46.do not doubt for a minute, assuming sees days on her bicycle, that she

:21:47. > :21:49.will win the title. But I think that maybe there is a chance for Sarah

:21:50. > :21:58.Groff to take another victory here today. She is going to have to run

:21:59. > :22:02.her socks off if she is to stay on the podium, Stimson, which is

:22:03. > :22:06.looking difficult. She is a great runner but she is not Gwen

:22:07. > :22:10.Jorgensen. She is not going to put 1.5 minutes into Angela Hewitt, for

:22:11. > :22:17.example. Looks like they are holding the same time.

:22:18. > :22:28.Realistically they will only put in another 20 seconds, if that. A

:22:29. > :22:34.little bit of excitement. But overall, I think, Gwen Jorgensen,

:22:35. > :22:39.looking very strong for the title. Interesting looking at some of these

:22:40. > :22:45.athletes, looking at Finley, Kirsten Sweetland, the absence of Jenkins,

:22:46. > :22:48.and Stamford. It is so hard, this level of racing, the athletes have

:22:49. > :22:52.got to take themselves to the absolute limit of their physical

:22:53. > :22:56.capacity. Day in, day out, sounding extreme, but that is what they have

:22:57. > :23:03.got to do, to take risks, and that is why they get injured. Gwen

:23:04. > :23:07.Jorgensen, working hard, tucked in there. Have not seen her on the

:23:08. > :23:14.front. I'm expecting to see a pretty decent run from her.

:23:15. > :23:24.Sarah Haskins. From America. Just giving Gwen Jorgensen a nice little

:23:25. > :23:30.write in here. Doing what she thought she may have been doing. --

:23:31. > :23:36.doing what we thought she may have been brought in to do. The leaders

:23:37. > :23:42.coming into transition, to the Bell. At the end of the then ultimate

:23:43. > :23:48.lap. At the end of the hour and 17 minutes. One lap remaining, one

:23:49. > :23:54.loop, before they returned the transition and they hang up their

:23:55. > :23:55.bikes before the 10,000 metre run. -- return to transition. Leading

:23:56. > :24:00.group numbering 18 -- return to transition. Leading

:24:01. > :24:03.Groff, winner in Stockholm, for New -- return to transition. Leading

:24:04. > :24:05.Zealanders, Lucy Hall, the only representative from Great Britain,

:24:06. > :24:10.and the chasers, representative from Great Britain,

:24:11. > :24:16.got an official time check, one minute 21 seconds behind. -- four

:24:17. > :24:19.New Zealanders. The chase group with Jodie Stimpson and most importantly

:24:20. > :24:21.with Gwen Jorgensen in the group as well.

:24:22. > :24:27.Little glance of exactly where they are. Gwen Jorgensen is going to

:24:28. > :24:32.think, not in a bad position, we will see if the front pack, with one

:24:33. > :24:36.that ago, decides to put on a bit of a burst. Seeing what extra time can

:24:37. > :24:41.gain. Angela Hewitt has got to work harder, needing time on her side,

:24:42. > :24:46.Gwen Jorgensen, for the overall victory. Not the title, that is

:24:47. > :24:50.going to Gwen Jorgensen, all being well, but it will be interesting to

:24:51. > :24:55.see what Angela Hewitt can do on the run. Really taking the race on, and

:24:56. > :25:01.Sarah Groff, currently lying in second. Hewitt stretching her legs

:25:02. > :25:05.over the first 1500 metres of the final lap. The others respond. No

:25:06. > :25:09.breakaway has been final lap. The others respond. No

:25:10. > :25:13.pace has just raised slightly. Angela Hewitt

:25:14. > :25:18.pace has just raised slightly. Finley, and Nicky Samuels back in

:25:19. > :25:23.the group. Reverse, Mexico. The other Italian, hitting the ground

:25:24. > :25:29.hard. Losing her chance of getting anywhere near the top ten today. --

:25:30. > :25:33.Claudia Rivas of Mexico. Angela Hewitt taking it up, and the

:25:34. > :25:39.Brazilian, in second position, Pamela Oliveira. The last lap of two

:25:40. > :25:46.wheeled World Triathlon Series action for these athletes for 2014.

:25:47. > :25:51.They still have the 10,000 metre run to come. Very fitting that this

:25:52. > :26:01.final race of the World Triathlon Series is in Edmonton, Canada. It is

:26:02. > :26:04.the 20th anniversary this year, went through to 2008, then became the

:26:05. > :26:09.World Triathlon Series in 2009, bringing us up to 2014. It is

:26:10. > :26:16.officially 25 years old this year. -- it is the 25th anniversary this

:26:17. > :26:19.year. With the first Olympic travelling Laurel macro in Sydney in

:26:20. > :26:28.2000, the sport became part of the travelling Laurel macro in Sydney in

:26:29. > :26:29.Olympic movement. Simon Whitfield from Canada, taking the victory. --

:26:30. > :26:37.with the first Olympics travellings in Sydney in 2000, the sport became

:26:38. > :26:43.part of the Olympic movement. Whitfield was racing as early as

:26:44. > :26:52.London, 2012, he crashed out in Hyde Park, he took silver in Beijing,

:26:53. > :26:58.gold in Sydney. Fabulous Olympic results until London, when it all

:26:59. > :27:10.went out of the front door for him. -- racing as late as London 2012.

:27:11. > :27:15.and this is what a lot of the ITU athletes do, they go along, but we

:27:16. > :27:17.have not seen him racing any long-distance races, so maybe he

:27:18. > :27:26.thought he would put his feet up and go behind the scenes. Katie Hursey

:27:27. > :27:36.from the USA, leading Pamela Oliviera of Brazil. Now they will

:27:37. > :27:40.start to consider the arrival in transition and the need to be in and

:27:41. > :27:46.out of it sharply and that was a key element for Sarah Groff in Stockholm

:27:47. > :27:50.last week. She really showed how to do a second transition in terms of

:27:51. > :27:53.arriving, dismounting, parking the bike, getting her shoes on and

:27:54. > :28:02.leaving transition. She had it down to a fine art seven days ago in

:28:03. > :28:05.Sweden. And she sprang clear of her adverse Aries and left transition

:28:06. > :28:17.first and in the end nobody caught her. A clean arrival in transition

:28:18. > :28:21.and departure. 2014 one of her best years ever in triathlon. She was

:28:22. > :28:26.with the Darren Smith squad for many years, and he has produced many

:28:27. > :28:31.people, like Jodie Stimpson, but in the past has produced grain -- great

:28:32. > :28:34.athletes. She trains with Mario the past has produced grain -- great

:28:35. > :28:42.and Richard Murray, the past has produced grain -- great

:28:43. > :28:48.doing great work this year. So the second stage of the triathlon is

:28:49. > :28:52.almost at an end. We will start to see the triathletes reaching down

:28:53. > :28:57.and ripping open the straps of their shoes and taking their feet out of

:28:58. > :29:08.their shoes and resting them on top to prepare for the arrival in

:29:09. > :29:12.transition, and there we go. Hursey has not got her feet out yet. Last

:29:13. > :29:19.few hundred metres, Katie Hersey forcing the pace at the front of the

:29:20. > :29:23.lead group, but it is two other Americans we will be focusing on,

:29:24. > :29:27.keeping a close eye on the final stages over the ten kilometre run.

:29:28. > :29:32.Sarah Groff, who potentially is the best of the runners in the lead

:29:33. > :29:37.group, and Gwen Jorgensen, the best runner in the race today. She has

:29:38. > :29:42.proved it time and time again, coming from difficult deficits to

:29:43. > :29:46.close the gap and when the World Triathlon Series races. Nicky

:29:47. > :29:50.Samuels has proved she is no slouch either over the shorter sprint

:29:51. > :29:56.distance. On the podium in Stockholm, her first podium in

:29:57. > :30:10.Sweden. A little mention of the other US athlete, Katie Hursey, she

:30:11. > :30:14.was second to Gwen Jorgensen last season, and then she had did not

:30:15. > :30:19.finish and a crash and a disqualification and came back

:30:20. > :30:23.stronger in Stockholm just recently, just in the last weekend where she

:30:24. > :30:27.finished in seventh. I do rate her as an athlete. We will see more of

:30:28. > :30:30.her in the future and it will be difficult for her to do anything

:30:31. > :30:35.now. Her job is probably done but she can run, not as fast as the

:30:36. > :30:51.likes of Hewitt and Groth or Gwen Jorgensen, but a good solid race for

:30:52. > :30:56.Katie Hersey from the US. Hursey starting to prepare. You can see the

:30:57. > :30:59.blue on the other side of the park lake where they swam earlier today,

:31:00. > :31:06.and they are about to arrive in transition, so the feet have been

:31:07. > :31:16.removed and rested on shoes. They need to get the dismount correct. We

:31:17. > :31:20.never saw the replay of that, and it was always a bit mysterious. Here we

:31:21. > :31:24.go. They are arriving in transition to park their bikes and get set for

:31:25. > :31:33.the ten kilometre run. This is where Sarah Groff was exemplary a week ago

:31:34. > :31:40.in Stockholm with a vast arrival and an effective, efficient changeover

:31:41. > :31:43.and departure. The two New Zealanders there, and Groth will be

:31:44. > :31:49.alongside. Groth gets her bike in. The left shoe is on, and rue TA is

:31:50. > :32:00.one of the first to move. Groth not quite as quick this week -- Groth --

:32:01. > :32:07.Groth. Findlay and Sarah Groff in seventh position. Lucy Hall now

:32:08. > :32:10.finds herself in the most uncomfortable part of the race in

:32:11. > :32:17.terms of her ability, the running, but the chasers are raising the pace

:32:18. > :32:21.as they look towards the finish their final lap. Jodie Stimpson and

:32:22. > :32:27.Gwen Jorgensen are in this group. Here we go, the chasers have closed

:32:28. > :32:32.the gap and it is just one minute and four seconds, and it was a

:32:33. > :32:35.minute and 21, so a good final lap for the chasing group. They have

:32:36. > :32:39.done quite a bit of damage and Gwen Jorgensen now has a really good

:32:40. > :32:43.chance of moving up through the field. They have to get the

:32:44. > :32:47.transition right first. Stimpson arrives in the number three birth

:32:48. > :32:58.with jaw against unjust alongside her in the number one spot. Stimpson

:32:59. > :33:01.is putting her shoes on meanwhile, they have been beaten to it within

:33:02. > :33:07.the chasing group, and she sprints away. Good work in transition for

:33:08. > :33:22.the two Japanese triathletes. 20 away. Good work in transition for

:33:23. > :33:22.kilometres, and it shows that the front runners started thinking about

:33:23. > :33:27.the transition, not thinking about moving forward and Andrea Hewitt

:33:28. > :33:35.looking fantastic. Totally relaxed, but you can't help but think that a

:33:36. > :33:37.minute will not be enough. We would expect to see Gwen Jorgensen make

:33:38. > :33:45.our way ruthlessly through the field. We have seen it time and

:33:46. > :33:49.again this season. Ruthless is the word because we have just seen her

:33:50. > :33:52.annihilate the field and sorry to interrupt you, but that five

:33:53. > :33:57.kilometres is about the point you would expect to see Gwen Jorgensen,

:33:58. > :34:06.maybe even sooner, making her way up to the lead pack. Sarah Groff is

:34:07. > :34:11.fresh off the back of victory in Stockholm where she led from start

:34:12. > :34:15.to finish and she has the same two kiwis for company that she had on

:34:16. > :34:20.the podium in Sweden last weekend. Sarah Groff was first, then Samuels,

:34:21. > :34:26.then Hewitt, and Groth is second. So, the same three triathletes, but

:34:27. > :34:37.Gwen Jorgensen was absent a week ago in Stockholm. So they have for 2.5

:34:38. > :34:44.kilometre laps to run. We would expect to see Jorgensen time of her

:34:45. > :34:49.attack on the leaders. Beginning with an assault during this first

:34:50. > :34:53.lap, and now we pick up Jorgensen who has Stimpson and Frintova of the

:34:54. > :34:57.Czech Republic for company. This is the first lap for Jorgensen, and

:34:58. > :35:05.that is a mighty pace she is putting down during the first 1500 metres of

:35:06. > :35:11.this 10,000 metre run. Jodie just going with her. I don't know how

:35:12. > :35:14.sensibilities. Gwen Jorgensen has had a negative split and will run

:35:15. > :35:19.the first five kilometres a little bit slower, and that is what they

:35:20. > :35:25.call negative splits, so you run the time in the second part faster,

:35:26. > :35:32.which she does to perfection. Hewitt was first to strike, and it was her

:35:33. > :35:38.first podium for seven years when she took second place in Stockholm a

:35:39. > :35:41.week ago. They have got it out of Bacca dash out and back at the end

:35:42. > :35:46.of the bridge, and now there will be tactical awareness because the

:35:47. > :35:52.leaders will see, back through the field, Gwen Jorgensen heading in the

:35:53. > :35:59.wrong direction as far as she's concerned as Hewitt makes away, the

:36:00. > :36:04.lightweight kiwi, on her way back towards where she started a few

:36:05. > :36:09.months ago, the first lap of four. You will see the crossover with

:36:10. > :36:13.Jorgensen going past, and we could see from that that she has left

:36:14. > :36:17.Stimpson and Frintova behind. Jorgensen moving up through the

:36:18. > :36:21.field. Hewitt is now aware of the looming danger as a Sarah Groff and

:36:22. > :36:28.Samuels. They know Jorgensen is coming for them. They know there is

:36:29. > :36:31.nothing they can do, and you cannot say dig deeper because you have to

:36:32. > :36:38.find another minute or two over your best time. 8.6 kilometres, and

:36:39. > :36:42.Jorgensen is 1.06 behind the leaders. Does not like she has put

:36:43. > :36:46.in any time, but I don't think that is a big problem at the moment as we

:36:47. > :36:52.know she will pick up the pace as the kilometres go down. Andrea

:36:53. > :36:58.Hewitt leads for New Zealand. Nicky Samuels is in third for New Zealand.

:36:59. > :37:02.Really impressed with Nicky Samuels in this race. She was always known

:37:03. > :37:06.as a great swimmer and biker and we have not seen much of her on the

:37:07. > :37:12.run. She was an athlete who came through in her age group and she won

:37:13. > :37:16.the world 20-24 age group some years back and we don't often see the

:37:17. > :37:22.cross over from age group to elite, so impressive racing. The front

:37:23. > :37:26.three have opened a gap of eight or nine seconds over the next best,

:37:27. > :37:34.which is a group of five or six, who they were with for most of the

:37:35. > :37:40.ride. Now the two New Zealanders have settled in at the front of the

:37:41. > :37:43.field. I love watching Andrea Hewitt. She just slightly leans

:37:44. > :37:49.forward, but a lovely relaxed running style, and a lot of upper

:37:50. > :37:59.body action coming from Nicky. Sarah Groff tucked in there, also very

:38:00. > :38:04.relaxed. We are back with Jorgensen, the chaser. Coming from over a

:38:05. > :38:12.minute behind at the end of the two wheel stage of this World Triathlon

:38:13. > :38:20.Series. And the pace is raised again by Jorgensen. No sign of Stimpson or

:38:21. > :38:27.Frintova, who she was with when she was doing the first lap of her

:38:28. > :38:31.10,000 metre quest to win the final race and to give herself the World

:38:32. > :38:39.Triathlon Series title for 2014. At the moment it looks like both girls

:38:40. > :38:43.will become the world champion. Can she finish with a flourish and win

:38:44. > :38:51.the last race of the year? I would not bet against her. The pressure

:38:52. > :38:54.must be immense. She knows what it means to the USA team. They have not

:38:55. > :39:09.had a world champion for ten years now. It is not going -- it will mean

:39:10. > :39:15.a lot to her. Back to the front runners, and Andrea Hewitt is

:39:16. > :39:21.looking relaxed. Nicky Samuels there are also from New Zealand. Coming

:39:22. > :39:28.towards the end of the first lap of four. Hewitt of New Zealand, Sarah

:39:29. > :39:37.Groff of the USA, and Samuels of New four. Hewitt of New Zealand, Sarah

:39:38. > :39:44.Zealand. They are about to compete -- complete a quarter of the

:39:45. > :39:47.distance. Goes to show what hard work and determination does. In the

:39:48. > :39:51.early part of the season, Andrea Hewitt did not have it. Didn't look

:39:52. > :39:55.like the athlete we are used to, but she got better and better as each

:39:56. > :40:07.race past. She has decided to go a bit wide. Sarah Groff is really

:40:08. > :40:15.relaxed. An easy running style. She had her first triathlon series win a

:40:16. > :40:23.week ago. The stragglers still trying to keep visual checks on the

:40:24. > :40:28.leaders. That is the key, keep them in your sites and you know you have

:40:29. > :40:33.a chance if one of them fails or falls on getting in amongst the

:40:34. > :40:36.podium places. But the key thing here with three to go is the

:40:37. > :40:43.difference between Sarah Groff, Samuels and Hewitt and Jorgensen.

:40:44. > :40:49.Jorgensen, we know, had moved clear of Stimpson and she was just a

:40:50. > :40:56.minute down, the last official time check suggesting it was one minute

:40:57. > :41:02.and six seconds or thereabouts. No sign of Jorgensen coming round the

:41:03. > :41:07.left turn. We have the visual of Michael Roy and the other German.

:41:08. > :41:13.There is Jorgensen. She is now 49 seconds off the pace, so at the end

:41:14. > :41:18.of the first lap she is doing the right thing, heading in the right

:41:19. > :41:22.direction. She has taken about 11 seconds out of the lead of Sarah

:41:23. > :41:26.Groff and the New Zealanders. She looks a bit hot, but I've said it in

:41:27. > :41:31.previous races. She may be looked slightly uncomfortable, but I think

:41:32. > :41:35.those looks do not tell the real story of what is going on. She has

:41:36. > :41:39.the glasses on and you cannot see what is going on in the eyes. I

:41:40. > :41:45.expect to see her pick up the pace as the kilometres tick by. Graft

:41:46. > :41:47.from the US is leading the race with Andrea Hewitt

:41:48. > :41:56.from the US is leading the race with Nicky Samuels from New Zealand in

:41:57. > :42:01.third. That is the view of Jorgensen for her next target area. She cannot

:42:02. > :42:10.see the leaders. They were 48 seconds back but she can see the two

:42:11. > :42:17.Germans. So she has set herself a target here. She will take the

:42:18. > :42:22.Germans next, and take some water. Just a little shower for Gwen

:42:23. > :42:32.Jorgensen. Now she kicks clear and starts to train her vision on Knapp

:42:33. > :42:42.and goes past. She must be thinking, here we go again. Next up will be

:42:43. > :42:45.Robische, the next victim for Jorgensen. Roguish has gone. --

:42:46. > :42:52.Robische has gone. She's in 16th, Jorgensen. Roguish has gone. --

:42:53. > :42:54.and that is where she needs to finish to take the title, and she

:42:55. > :42:57.will not finish it here, and finish to take the title, and she

:42:58. > :43:02.already put a minute in into a half kilometres. McIlroy from New

:43:03. > :43:08.Zealand, and it must be demoralising to know that you had one minute, a

:43:09. > :43:17.quarter of the run and you had already been caught. The French run

:43:18. > :43:20.is going backwards now as Jorgensen moves up through the field -- the

:43:21. > :43:27.French runner. She is picking them off one at a time.

:43:28. > :43:33.The coach on the side shouting all sorts of advice to their runner, and

:43:34. > :43:39.probably the advice you would give his to just relax. This is the

:43:40. > :43:46.ultimate target, the lead group, Samuels, Hewitt and Groff. 48

:43:47. > :43:50.seconds at the end of lap one, and I imagine it is down to somewhere in

:43:51. > :43:57.the 30s already. They are about halfway through lap number two. 37

:43:58. > :44:04.seconds already. There we go. 6.4 kilometres to run. It is all heading

:44:05. > :44:09.in the right direction as far as Gwen Jorgensen is concerned. It

:44:10. > :44:20.certainly is. One of the Japanese athletes, I think it is jury EIB --

:44:21. > :44:23.jury I'd -- Juri Ide. The Hungarians are getting stronger, they did well

:44:24. > :44:28.in the World Championship team race, coming third. It is deceptive how

:44:29. > :44:33.fast she is going because she has this lovely, long stride and it

:44:34. > :44:37.looks like she is not going that fast. Nicky Samuels with really

:44:38. > :44:41.impressive form in to see her up with Sarah Groff and Hewitt, two of

:44:42. > :44:50.the strongest runners. I just saw Gwen Jorgensen and she was on the

:44:51. > :44:54.tail of the Hungarian, Kovatsch. They will gauge it according to

:44:55. > :44:57.where they were on the first lap, and they will be aware that Gwen

:44:58. > :45:01.Jorgensen is that much closer to getting the information from the

:45:02. > :45:09.team officials on the side of course. Sarah Groff, Samuels and

:45:10. > :45:16.Hewitt are the leading three. But Jorgensen is on her way. A little

:45:17. > :45:21.stumble for Samuels. You kind of want to cheer them on, to find

:45:22. > :45:25.another 30 seconds and it looks like Jorgensen is on the track and really

:45:26. > :45:36.taking it on, down to 32 seconds, about six kilometres. Bin laden --

:45:37. > :45:41.Finlay has been striding along purposely, but Jorgensen goes past,

:45:42. > :45:45.in her quest to win the world title and do so in the final stages.

:45:46. > :45:52.Another shower and a little bowl of water. The sunglasses got awash as

:45:53. > :45:56.well as Jorgensen moves up through the gears. Look at this, fantastic

:45:57. > :46:01.running from Gwen Jorgensen. No want to touch are at the moment and the

:46:02. > :46:07.lead group are aware of the danger that is looming. Still on the second

:46:08. > :46:11.lap. Jorgensen has loads of time to strike the front and win this race

:46:12. > :46:21.in style and win the world title in style as well with her fifth victory

:46:22. > :46:25.of the season. To do what she does, to run from behind like this and to

:46:26. > :46:28.be so strong and fast, she has been in the second pack and promotes

:46:29. > :46:32.people that would be game over, but not for Gwen Jorgensen. She is such

:46:33. > :46:37.complete athlete. She did miss the front pack today, but it doesn't

:46:38. > :46:41.matter. It is incredible in itself. Still a very young athlete and it

:46:42. > :46:44.will be amazing to see what she does in the future, but also to see what

:46:45. > :46:48.the other athletes will try and do because they cannot let her run

:46:49. > :46:53.away. They have to put a plan together to beat the American. She

:46:54. > :46:57.is too good. You sense the damage has to be done on the bike. More

:46:58. > :47:01.work on the bike, bigger gaps achieved on the bike, giving

:47:02. > :47:06.Jorgensen a tougher target to aim for. Hall is next. She is next in

:47:07. > :47:18.the firing line. Lucy Hall is picked off. The Dutch runner falls as well.

:47:19. > :47:23.Vilic of Austria and Alice Betto of Italy will watch as Jorgensen heads

:47:24. > :47:28.off into the distance, getting closer towards the three leaders. Do

:47:29. > :47:31.you know what, this is one of the best runs I have seen from Lucy

:47:32. > :47:39.Hall. We still have over half of it, but she is racing with the Dutch

:47:40. > :47:42.racer and she is a strong athlete. She is running with these guys, and

:47:43. > :47:50.that is some of the best running we have seen from Lucy Hall so far this

:47:51. > :47:54.year. We are on the second lap of the four laps, and everything is

:47:55. > :48:03.going according to plan so far for Gwen Jorgensen. Fighting her way up

:48:04. > :48:08.through the field. And we can see Jorgensen is in the same shot as the

:48:09. > :48:12.leaders. Hewitt, Samuels, they have dropped Groth. Hewitt has decided

:48:13. > :48:17.that she needs to make a move -- dropped Groff. They need to stop the

:48:18. > :48:22.charge up through the field from Jorgensen. She has taken Samuels a

:48:23. > :48:27.lot -- along to the right. Samuels having to work are to stay with

:48:28. > :48:29.Hewitt here -- along for the ride. We are

:48:30. > :48:34.Hewitt here -- along for the ride. run, so with 5000 metres gone and

:48:35. > :48:38.5000 metres to go, the two New Zealanders, Hewitt, who was second

:48:39. > :48:45.in Stockholm, and Samuels who was third in Sweden have taken it on.

:48:46. > :48:50.And Groff cannot match them. Really surprised to see Sarah Groff

:48:51. > :48:53.dropping off. She reminds me of an athlete from Australia, Peter

:48:54. > :48:57.Robinson, the former world champion. He used to drop off and

:48:58. > :49:03.then get back on, and we have seen Sarah do it before. Whether Sarah

:49:04. > :49:06.can do it today, it is just a few seconds, and there is a chance she

:49:07. > :49:11.can get back on, and just looking at the rankings, to try to work out

:49:12. > :49:18.what she needs to do to stay ahead of Hewitt. Stimpson as well. Various

:49:19. > :49:22.mathematical combinations going on for second and third and podium

:49:23. > :49:35.places in the overall standings. Jorgensen has taken re-Vass and

:49:36. > :49:42.Olive Eire -- Olivera. Sarah Groff I'd be the next target. There are

:49:43. > :49:49.two laps to go. Hewitt leading the race with Samuels. Gwen Jorgensen

:49:50. > :49:57.moving up through the field. One at a time, she is taking them out. In a

:49:58. > :50:03.league of her own here. There is Sarah Groff, with the ponytail

:50:04. > :50:09.swinging from side to side, and that his third-place. Got her down as 15

:50:10. > :50:13.kilometres per hour, but she is definitely going faster than that,

:50:14. > :50:17.probably around 18 and we would expect her to run about 33 minutes

:50:18. > :50:22.on this course, which is around about 18 kilometres per hour.

:50:23. > :50:27.Jorgensen of the USA hunting down Groth, the American who won in

:50:28. > :50:33.Stockholm last week, and she will soon be passed by Gwen Jorgensen.

:50:34. > :50:36.The gap is just a few seconds now. Another water station is coming on.

:50:37. > :50:42.You can see the difference between Groth and the two New Zealanders who

:50:43. > :50:47.moved away from Sarah Groff about four of five minutes ago. They are

:50:48. > :50:56.into the third lap. Hewitt and Samuels with just over 4.5

:50:57. > :51:00.kilometres to run. Surprise to see Sarah drop off the pace, and maybe

:51:01. > :51:02.the fatigue of the travel from Europe over to Canada and the

:51:03. > :51:08.victory last week maybe got the better of her here, because I cannot

:51:09. > :51:12.see her making her way back up to these front two runners. We can

:51:13. > :51:17.expect Gwen Jorgensen to run Sarah Groff down, and just a couple of

:51:18. > :51:24.metres, she will be running past her team-mate. I wonder if Groff is

:51:25. > :51:28.aware that Jorgensen is quite as close as she is. I have not seen

:51:29. > :51:33.Groff look behind her. She has been looking ahead at the two Kiwis who

:51:34. > :51:37.have stretched the lead but now she will be aware because Jorgensen is

:51:38. > :51:42.breathing down her neck and gives her a pat on the back she goes past.

:51:43. > :51:48.I am here, but I'm not staying along. Jorgensen is away. She goes

:51:49. > :51:53.past Sarah Groff. Just trying to will them to jump on the back and

:51:54. > :51:57.try and get a little bit of April along like they do on the cycling,

:51:58. > :52:04.but she is just running too fast. She will be running around a

:52:05. > :52:07.three-minute per kilometre pace, and you know that is phenomenally fast,

:52:08. > :52:11.and that is at the end of a swim, 1.5 kilometres swim. It is just

:52:12. > :52:34.phenomenal running. Hewitt and Samuels, the two New

:52:35. > :52:41.Zealanders. Still with about 75 metres now, not much more. The

:52:42. > :52:46.camera angle is often deceptive. Andrea Hewitt leads the finale in

:52:47. > :52:51.Edmonton with her team-mate Nicky Samuels just about holding on as

:52:52. > :52:59.Hewitt tries to move the pace up another notch. Gwen Jorgensen she is

:53:00. > :53:02.now in the same shot as we watch from the helicopter. The gap is

:53:03. > :53:09.shortening all the time. Jorgensen knows that the hard work of this

:53:10. > :53:13.10,000 metre run is almost done, and the New Zealanders will now know

:53:14. > :53:17.because they are going eyeball to eyeball with Gwen Jorgensen who

:53:18. > :53:21.makes the turn just a handful of seconds behind. Sarah Groff is down

:53:22. > :53:46.in fourth position. Hewitt, Samuels. She certainly has not made

:53:47. > :53:51.things easy for herself today but I don't think anybody would deny her

:53:52. > :53:54.this victory. She has worked through a few convocations in the race and

:53:55. > :53:58.we are not sure what happened between the swim and the bike, and

:53:59. > :54:01.she was a minute down and still has some couple of kilometres to go and

:54:02. > :54:09.she is really not far-off taking the lead. You would not bet against her.

:54:10. > :54:15.No, Jorgensen has stop another drink and shower. She described herself as

:54:16. > :54:21.a midwest girl who loves home and has been much happier on tour with

:54:22. > :54:25.her fiance travelling with her. He has been very much part of the

:54:26. > :54:29.package for Gwen Jorgensen in 2014. He has made a difference for her.

:54:30. > :54:34.Born in Wisconsin, lives in Minnesota. You can't help but feel

:54:35. > :54:39.that she slightly likes the challenge of running from behind.

:54:40. > :54:43.Some runners do. They enjoy it. She would probably rather be off the

:54:44. > :54:48.front of the bike, into first place, but she kind of enjoys the chase. It

:54:49. > :54:53.would be rather dull if she came off the bike first and headed out and

:54:54. > :54:58.then led from start to finish over the 10,000 metre race. It's so much

:54:59. > :55:01.more enjoyable from the spectators point of view watching her do the

:55:02. > :55:07.damage, and she is about to reach the very top of the leaderboard with

:55:08. > :55:11.the two New Zealanders in front, and then a couple of lapped runners, or

:55:12. > :55:15.about to be lapped runners in front. Samuels and Hewitt will be the next

:55:16. > :55:21.to fall victim to the incredible running power of Gwen Jorgensen of

:55:22. > :55:26.the US. Seven seconds, that is all that stands between her and the lead

:55:27. > :55:33.in the World Triathlon Series grand finale. She might be ruing the

:55:34. > :55:38.fact, Hewitt, that they did not have a more powerful bike pack. If she

:55:39. > :55:42.had got another 45 seconds or so on Jorgensen, it would have been hard

:55:43. > :55:46.for Jorgensen to catch her, but that has not been the case. They had a

:55:47. > :55:52.big, messy pack. Although they made up some time, it wasn't enough.

:55:53. > :55:58.So there are four runners in front, but only two are counting, the

:55:59. > :56:03.others are being lapped. And there is a bit of a scramble for liquid

:56:04. > :56:06.there. Jorgensen just got hold of a bottle and her upper body was a bit

:56:07. > :56:11.twisted as she snatched at it. No damage done and now she is behind

:56:12. > :56:12.Samuels. The hard work is done and she is at the front of the race.

:56:13. > :56:18.This is where the money is one. she is at the front of the race.

:56:19. > :56:22.is at the front of the field, and she has not taken Samuels out yet,

:56:23. > :56:27.and I suppose she does not have do, she can run at their pace. She can

:56:28. > :56:32.relax were a little while before she decides to move it on another gear

:56:33. > :56:38.and take first position away from Hewitt. This is just awesome

:56:39. > :56:43.running, but for me, perhaps the performance of the day of this race

:56:44. > :56:46.goes to Nicky Samuels. She had never been on the podium before Stockholm

:56:47. > :56:51.last weekend where we saw her in third, and here she is, running

:56:52. > :56:54.along with Gwen Jorgensen and Hewitt for a podium position in the final

:56:55. > :57:12.race. That is the nominal. The me that is the performance of the day.

:57:13. > :57:16.be one of the leading places today. In time for the completion of the

:57:17. > :57:21.third lap, Gwen Jorgensen has reached the front. She has 2500

:57:22. > :57:27.metres to decide what to do, and she is still feeling full of running and

:57:28. > :57:32.ready to go over the last lap. We have seen it before, we know what

:57:33. > :57:34.happens, she gets to the front, she sits in, and at some point, it is

:57:35. > :57:50.going to come soon, it will move up. They will take the Bell. The Bell

:57:51. > :57:59.tells them that they are on their final lap. They have 2500 metres to

:58:00. > :58:07.run. For Gwen Jorgensen this is a lap of runner, 2500 metres, around

:58:08. > :58:12.the park here in Edmonton. She has the two Kiwis the company at the

:58:13. > :58:14.moment, but I am sure it is not going to stay that way too much

:58:15. > :58:33.longer. Angela Hewitt, such an experienced,

:58:34. > :58:42.consistent athlete. And of course, Gwen Jorgensen, sitting in, biding

:58:43. > :58:46.her time. Everybody wants a photograph of Gwen Jorgensen, camera

:58:47. > :58:51.phones at the ready, as she moves up to strike for the front. Hewitt and

:58:52. > :58:56.Samuels, going with her at the moment. We have not seen a serious

:58:57. > :58:57.injection of pace since Gwen Jorgensen arrived at the front of

:58:58. > :59:20.the field. And the three leaders. Still bunched

:59:21. > :59:27.as a trio at the head of proceedings here.

:59:28. > :59:34.Gwen Jorgensen, USA. Hewitt and Samuels, New Zealand. Sarah Groff is

:59:35. > :59:40.the chaser in fourth, up with the leaders for a while. Now running a

:59:41. > :59:49.slightly lonely final lap, back in fourth position. All that she has

:59:50. > :59:59.got to do is hold the position and she will be on the podium in the

:00:00. > :00:09.World Championship final. Watching some of the backmarkers go through,

:00:10. > :00:12.Sarah Groff, fine season for her. She finally achieved a win in

:00:13. > :00:18.Stockholm last week. Is there a break at the front? Has Gwen

:00:19. > :00:25.Jorgensen moved away? Yes, she has taken it up on her own. Road along

:00:26. > :00:29.with Hewitt and Samuels and then decided enough was enough at this

:00:30. > :00:35.relatively pedestrian pace, time to move it up a gear and give the crowd

:00:36. > :00:42.something to enjoy for the second half of the final lap, and so Gwen

:00:43. > :00:50.Jorgensen leading Hewitt, Samuels is third. This is the world champion in

:00:51. > :00:54.waiting, when your consent, USA. Cannot think how much she deserves

:00:55. > :00:59.this title, disappointment in 2012, great disappointment, 2013, London,

:01:00. > :01:03.when she was the hot favourite to take the overall title, and crashed

:01:04. > :01:06.out quite badly there on one of the corners. But not today, today, 2014,

:01:07. > :01:17.definitely her turn, her race. There will be licking their lips

:01:18. > :01:21.wanting to see the battle between Stamford and Gwen Jorgensen, when

:01:22. > :01:26.Stamford returns to top form and her best, and with one more season to

:01:27. > :01:38.come, 2015, before the Olympic year, 2016, we hope Stamford is fit. They

:01:39. > :01:46.prepare for the ultimate triathletes challenge in the Rio de Janeiro

:01:47. > :01:53.Olympics, 2016. Now rounding the bend. We noticed the format, looks

:01:54. > :01:58.as though Hewitt has broken away from Nicky Samuels. Nicky Samuels is

:01:59. > :02:07.going to have to settle for third place and Hewitt safely in second

:02:08. > :02:17.place. Gwen Jorgensen has just the motorcycle company now.

:02:18. > :02:23.Talking about that earlier, hoping to see a race in Rio, in 2016,

:02:24. > :02:27.because next year there will only be one year to go until the Olympics,

:02:28. > :02:33.but that is the case, cannot believe it has come around so quickly. Just

:02:34. > :02:40.around the corner. We hope they will run a test event. The idea, the last

:02:41. > :02:55.I saw, was that it would be starting at the Copacabana beach. Without

:02:56. > :03:03.that is the it continues. She may well make that her focus now. That

:03:04. > :03:09.is the gap that she has. One following the leader, one following

:03:10. > :03:15.the second place triathlete, there is the spread between first and

:03:16. > :03:22.third. Gwen Jorgensen heading towards the final. The final stage

:03:23. > :03:29.of this brilliant season for her. It began with a third-place in Cape

:03:30. > :03:35.Town, behind in the second round of the tour, behind Jodie Stimpson and

:03:36. > :03:49.Helen Jenkins. Then she hit her winning ways, victory ahead of a Ai

:03:50. > :03:53.Ueda. The next victory was in London, Hyde Park, the sprint

:03:54. > :03:58.distance, the Olympic venue, and then backing it up with victory over

:03:59. > :04:03.the full distance in Chicago, that is where the grand final will be

:04:04. > :04:07.held one year from now. Then it was a return to sprint in hamburg and

:04:08. > :04:16.another victory for Gwen Jorgensen, ahead of Emma Jackson and Kirsten

:04:17. > :04:21.Sweetland. And she rounds off the season with her fifth victory. Five

:04:22. > :04:26.out of eight will go to Gwen Jorgensen, to register an emphatic

:04:27. > :04:34.World Triathlon Series, title win, for 2014. No one to touch her. Gwen

:04:35. > :04:41.Jorgensen avoids the next water station. No more hydration needed,

:04:42. > :04:46.she has what is required. She looks full of running, she looks like she

:04:47. > :04:51.could do this space for another 10,000 metres if required! Glimpse

:04:52. > :04:56.back there of Angela Hewitt, looking like she just wants the race to be

:04:57. > :05:01.over, this has been a tough season. Racing in the Commonwealth Games,

:05:02. > :05:05.old course in Edmonton, challenging, old course in Edmonton, challenging,

:05:06. > :05:10.challenging bicycle course, the run is a little bit tough, with

:05:11. > :05:19.undulation. I think they will be very happy to finish this race. Gwen

:05:20. > :05:22.Jorgensen beginning to soak up the applause, the first time we have

:05:23. > :05:28.seen her glancing over her shoulder, no danger from Angela Hewitt. The

:05:29. > :05:31.organs and has an open road ahead, and all of the noise of the crowd,

:05:32. > :05:37.they are a knowledgeable lot, this is a hotbed of trifling, they will

:05:38. > :05:42.know exactly what Gwen Jorgensen has achieved so far in 2014 with her

:05:43. > :05:46.quartet of victories and her fifth coming right here at the grand

:05:47. > :05:51.finale. Another glance over, nothing to worry about, if she so chooses

:05:52. > :05:58.she will have time to pick up a flag on the run into home, and enjoy this

:05:59. > :06:04.moment. Just coming up to two hours, Gwen Jorgensen entering the final

:06:05. > :06:08.straight. Lifting her sunglasses, and she smiled broadly, another

:06:09. > :06:13.glance to see if there is any danger. A sign of Walton, if you

:06:14. > :06:18.leaves falling across the blue carpet here. There is a spring in

:06:19. > :06:26.the step of Gwen Jorgensen as she comes home to win the World

:06:27. > :06:31.Triathlon Series for 2014 and she finishes with a flourish with her

:06:32. > :06:35.fifth victory of the series. Just over two hours, taking the win in

:06:36. > :06:40.Edmonton and the world title ahead of Andrea Hewitt, who is second, two

:06:41. > :06:51.weeks in a row, having been in the runners-up spot in Stockholm.

:06:52. > :06:59.Gwen Jorgensen wins, Andrea Hewitt second, Samuels third, it is a fine

:07:00. > :07:21.end to a fantastic season for the world number one. Must be very

:07:22. > :07:28.demoralising for her, and now we have Sarah Groff, United States,

:07:29. > :07:32.worked so hard. Looking very tired, coming home in a great fourth,

:07:33. > :07:42.meaning that she hangs on to the brilliant second place. Great run

:07:43. > :07:45.for her in fifth place. Confirmation of the final standings. Gwen

:07:46. > :07:52.Jorgensen, winning in Edmonton, fifth victory of the season, ahead

:07:53. > :07:54.of Andrea Hewitt and Nicky Samuels. Sarah Groff, finishing fourth, and

:07:55. > :08:09.in fifth, Aileen Reid. The world champion, 2014, Gwen

:08:10. > :08:13.Jorgensen, all she had to do was finish 16th or better, but she

:08:14. > :08:19.finished first, to win the final race of the season and give herself

:08:20. > :08:23.the world title. I do not really think it has sunk in at all, I want

:08:24. > :08:29.to thank everybody who has helped me. Patrick, Jamie, Sarah Haskins

:08:30. > :08:32.was huge! I'm really happy. I did not execute too well on the swim and

:08:33. > :08:48.the first lap of the bicycle, I think I got a little nervous. Able

:08:49. > :08:52.to reel it in. I had a great race today, could not have asked for

:08:53. > :08:57.better stop blue could not have asked for more, my run coming into

:08:58. > :09:10.its own, nine days of training, good quality, really helped me with it.

:09:11. > :09:15.Hopefully I can execute a little better in the coming years. The

:09:16. > :09:20.champion to 2014, two Americans at the top, with Sarah Groff second,

:09:21. > :09:27.Andrea Hewitt pipped Jodie Stimpson for third overall.

:09:28. > :09:36.Winning a record-breaking five races this season, and shown us that by

:09:37. > :09:39.the late macro when it comes to the third discipline, she is in a

:09:40. > :09:43.different league. Jodie Stimpson came here wanting to end the season

:09:44. > :09:51.on a high but she will have to make do with being a world champion. --

:09:52. > :09:59.Commonwealth champion. In the men's under 23, Scott Mark Austin beaten

:10:00. > :10:04.and settling for silver. Bronze went to Gordon Benson, Leeds. Alison

:10:05. > :10:07.Patrick became the champion in the PT five category for the third

:10:08. > :10:10.PREVSUB NEWSUB first time. And in the PT four, it was a 1-2-3 for

:10:11. > :10:20.Britain. That leaves the elite men, and what

:10:21. > :10:25.a race we have in store. Javier Gomez Moya as lead the rankings all

:10:26. > :10:34.season long as he hunts his fourth league title, but could there be one

:10:35. > :10:41.last Brownlee shaped twist? COMMENTATOR: Taking his first world

:10:42. > :10:54.triathlon series victory of the season. A little bit faster in those

:10:55. > :11:00.500 metres, I could make excuses. I should have had more left, could

:11:01. > :11:04.have done better in tactics. Has an outside chance at the world title,

:11:05. > :11:10.if it is U2 on a breakaway, what are you planning? Of course I would

:11:11. > :11:15.never let him win purposefully, but I would work really hard. If there

:11:16. > :11:21.is a chance of a breakaway, then I will be working very hard to give

:11:22. > :11:28.him time gaps. -- if it is you two on a break away. It is nigh on

:11:29. > :11:32.impossible, we got very lucky in circumstances last week in

:11:33. > :11:35.Stockholm, he was a bit under the weather, the course was so tough and

:11:36. > :11:40.technical. If there is another course like that, then we would have

:11:41. > :11:45.a better chance. This kind of racing, it would be not far from an

:11:46. > :11:49.error cult. How is Johnny going into the final race? Knowing that the

:11:50. > :12:02.World Championship title and getting that is completely out of his hands.

:12:03. > :12:07.maybe it is nice he has the opposite from last year and I cannot

:12:08. > :12:12.criticise whatever, if he wins, brilliant, if he doesn't, it was

:12:13. > :12:17.never in his hands. It is still the same, you can only go and race to

:12:18. > :12:26.the best of your ability. It is circumstances on the day, see what

:12:27. > :12:33.happens. Hope Javier Gomez has another bad day. That race will be

:12:34. > :12:38.on the red button the night. There will be extended highlights tomorrow

:12:39. > :12:42.on BBC Two. The women's World Championship trophy moves across the

:12:43. > :12:48.pond to the USA with Gwen Jorgensen becoming the first American in ten

:12:49. > :12:50.years to win the world title. Woelbert men's trophy stay in Spain?

:12:51. > :13:12.We will find out very soon. See you tomorrow. -- will the men's trophy.

:13:13. > :13:20.She finishes with a punch and a sprint, Stimpson wins in Auckland.

:13:21. > :13:28.It will be two out of two for magnificent Jodie Stimpson. Gwen

:13:29. > :13:36.Jorgensen out on her own, in a league of her own. Fabulous again

:13:37. > :13:43.from Gwen Jorgensen. Victory in Stockholm will go to Sarah Groff.

:13:44. > :13:45.There is a spring in her step as she comes home to win the world
