:01:27. > :01:31.And so it all comes down to this, the last race of the 2016 World
:01:32. > :01:37.Series, the men's grand final and not only that, it is also the chance
:01:38. > :01:43.for Johnny Brownlee to reclaim the world title he last won in 2012. We
:01:44. > :01:49.are set for an exciting ride. First let's reflect on a fantastic end to
:01:50. > :02:00.the women's season yesterday. Alongside me, Annie, in the
:02:01. > :02:03.sunshine, lovely. At the end of it all, a brand-new world champion. It
:02:04. > :02:11.was a brilliant event in the end and a worthy champion. She came into the
:02:12. > :02:22.event with an advantage leading the Rankins. I really don't think anyone
:02:23. > :02:30.thought Duffy would win the title as convincingly as she did yesterday.
:02:31. > :02:36.There was Jorgensen battling for that title as well. It was a
:02:37. > :02:43.stunning climax to the season. But now onto the men because Johnny
:02:44. > :02:48.Brownlee is in second place behind Mario Mola, who has been in pole
:02:49. > :02:52.position all year long. But Alistair Brownlee is also out in Cozumel,
:02:53. > :03:03.hoping to help his little brother out. We grabbed a word with him. It
:03:04. > :03:09.is comprehensively confirmed, he is the finest triathlete we have ever
:03:10. > :03:19.seen. I don't like to focus on these titles of the best there has ever
:03:20. > :03:20.been. I have set out and achieved more than I ever dream that I could
:03:21. > :03:38.achieve and that is what is to me. What is it like going into the grand
:03:39. > :03:44.final as a two time Olympic champion? Obviously it is fantastic.
:03:45. > :03:49.I'm very proud of that achievement. I think about it probably every day,
:03:50. > :03:53.but also it's nice to be back racing. I love racing, the Olympics
:03:54. > :03:57.was a massive hike and it was important to move on and do
:03:58. > :04:02.something afterwards. I am happy to be here but I will also be happy to
:04:03. > :04:09.relax after this. Reflect on your memories of it. It started almost
:04:10. > :04:13.perfectly with a swim in Rio, then on the bike I knew we had to ride
:04:14. > :04:18.really hard for the last few laps, then it came down to the wrong with
:04:19. > :04:23.me and Johnny at the end. It was a fantastic day, a race that might
:04:24. > :04:29.almost perfectly the plant. Four years of work, years of being up at
:04:30. > :04:34.night worrying about an injury. It was fantastic to be able to pull it
:04:35. > :04:40.off, and quite a lot of emotion there as well. Outstanding once
:04:41. > :04:48.again, Alistair Brownlee as he was four years ago, history made.
:04:49. > :04:56.Is there a possibility we won't see you in Tokyo to defend your title?
:04:57. > :05:01.There is a possibility. I have done three Olympics, won twice, I have
:05:02. > :05:05.achieved more than I ever dream of achieving, and to be honest before
:05:06. > :05:10.the Olympics I was focused on moving on and doing iron man in the next
:05:11. > :05:17.four years. But the Olympics is a massive carrot and it would be
:05:18. > :05:29.difficult not to be in Tokyo. This year, you are not able to finish on
:05:30. > :05:33.the overall podium, but Jonny can, how do you feel about that? If he
:05:34. > :05:39.had chosen his races better, he would be closer to winning the world
:05:40. > :05:44.title. It is not a likely outcome but it would be fantastic to see him
:05:45. > :05:47.race really well. He looked fantastic in Edmonton and I think
:05:48. > :05:53.indefinitely can definitely win here this weekend under any conditions.
:05:54. > :05:58.That said, we will do all we can to help him win the title this weekend.
:05:59. > :06:02.It's only natural that if your brother is in the race, you would
:06:03. > :06:07.help each other along. I don't think there is any secret our tactics are
:06:08. > :06:13.to get out of the swim at the front and ride as hard as we can on the
:06:14. > :06:19.bike for the first few laps. That is a tactic, and that is what we will
:06:20. > :06:26.try to do. Britain's double Olympic champion and easily the best this
:06:27. > :06:31.country has ever seen. The question is, has he got it in him to last
:06:32. > :06:34.another four years? There will be part of his competitive side that
:06:35. > :06:44.would like another gold medal but he would also want to set himself new
:06:45. > :06:48.challenges. He has mentioned the Ironman challenge previously. The
:06:49. > :06:52.other question is does he want to help his little brother win a gold
:06:53. > :06:57.medal, but Jonny Brownlee has the talent in his own right to win a
:06:58. > :07:01.gold medal. My gut instinct is we will see Alistair Brownlee trying
:07:02. > :07:05.something new. He is the kind of guy that can turn his hand to pretty
:07:06. > :07:12.much anything and succeed, sickening when you think about it, but what
:07:13. > :07:20.about that rivalry between Brownlee and Gomez. Where do you think that
:07:21. > :07:24.will go? It is an interesting one because Gomez now at the age of 34
:07:25. > :07:32.is probably, I would say without doubt that was his last Olympics. He
:07:33. > :07:36.has a proven record over the Ironman distance, and I think Gomez would
:07:37. > :07:41.like to go along, as would Alistair. That would be food for thought,
:07:42. > :07:45.seeing them race the Ironman distance together. Talking of
:07:46. > :07:49.partnerships, it doesn't get better than Alistair and Jonny. We will
:07:50. > :07:54.talk about the race in a minute and see them go toe to toe, but what
:07:55. > :07:59.have they done for the sport of triathlon? They have put the sport
:08:00. > :08:03.on the map, and I don't think we have ever seen so many participants
:08:04. > :08:07.taking part in triathlon is around the world, and I have to say a big
:08:08. > :08:13.part of that has come from the floor and around the world seeing the
:08:14. > :08:16.Brownlee Brothers racing. It has been important for the growth of the
:08:17. > :08:23.sport in this country. Absolutely, but they have some business to sort
:08:24. > :08:27.out here in Cozumel, and Alistair, despite his success, cannot win this
:08:28. > :08:35.series from here so he will have a very different motivation in Mexico.
:08:36. > :08:40.Yes, he cannot run for the title. He's obviously out here to do well,
:08:41. > :08:43.to potentially win the race, but most importantly to support his
:08:44. > :08:47.brother, and we know that when they are raising together they are much
:08:48. > :08:52.stronger unit. Jonny Brownlee will have to work hard to beat the
:08:53. > :09:00.Spaniard, Mario Mola. That is as good a time as any to check in on
:09:01. > :09:05.the standings. There are only four people who stand a chance of making
:09:06. > :09:14.it to the podium. Mola improved on his score in Edmonton by finishing
:09:15. > :09:19.second behind Jonny Brownlee. Fernando Alarza triumphed in Cape
:09:20. > :09:30.Town in April. And keep an eye out for the Frenchman Pierre Le Corre,
:09:31. > :09:34.sure to be challenging for the title in the next few years. But now we
:09:35. > :09:41.are focusing on the present, and it is down to two men, Jonny and
:09:42. > :09:48.Alistair Brownlee. He is the driving seat of the World Series now. It is
:09:49. > :09:54.not easy and these guys are really tough to beat. If I want to become
:09:55. > :10:00.world champion, I have got to come first or second and Mario has got to
:10:01. > :10:04.have an average day. He has not really had many average days. I will
:10:05. > :10:09.start the race as I do every single one, we will see what happens. How
:10:10. > :10:17.was it to top the podium last time in Edmonton? Edmonton was amazing.
:10:18. > :10:22.It's the first time I have won race in a long time. You can get good at
:10:23. > :10:26.coming second or third and not knowing how to take it to the next
:10:27. > :10:33.step, and the crucial moments in the race what you need to do. In
:10:34. > :10:37.Edmonton I went for it. I was impressed by how well Jonny raced,
:10:38. > :10:42.it showed he is in good form, that's no surprise, he is a great athlete
:10:43. > :10:46.so it is time to move on. We have a very good relationship out of the
:10:47. > :10:54.race, and in the race of course each one tries to the best. Mario is
:10:55. > :10:57.someone I have raced against throughout my whole triathlon
:10:58. > :11:01.career. He is a very good runner, that is his strength. He's probably
:11:02. > :11:07.the quickest when he is out there. His weakness the swim. If I can
:11:08. > :11:11.expose him at that early stage and he cannot catch up, hopefully I will
:11:12. > :11:14.have the advantage, but if we start the run together in conditions like
:11:15. > :11:21.this, he will be very difficult to beat. I hope my early years in my
:11:22. > :11:28.yorker got me adapted to these conditions, hot and humid
:11:29. > :11:31.conditions, but I guess it is just trying to adapt as best as possible.
:11:32. > :11:42.I have done everything I possibly can to be ready for the heat but it
:11:43. > :11:52.is difficult for Yorkshireman! How good is it to have Alistair back
:11:53. > :11:57.here? He goes the same way as I do, take out the swim very hard, go on
:11:58. > :12:02.the bike hard and hopefully get a group awaits. He is the key ally to
:12:03. > :12:06.do that. Jonny and Alistair racing together, they make the race happen
:12:07. > :12:10.and they make it very tough but I have got to focus on first doing my
:12:11. > :12:15.race, then see what happens with Jonathan because he is the one going
:12:16. > :12:20.to the title. At the end of the day, if Alistair wins the race and I have
:12:21. > :12:27.still got the title, I am happy with that. My main aim this year was the
:12:28. > :12:31.Olympic games, where is Mario wants to win the world title. Maybe that
:12:32. > :12:38.pressure might play on him a little bit. I don't see it as trying to get
:12:39. > :12:43.something I didn't get in Rio, it is just a new opportunity to do well.
:12:44. > :12:49.If I become world champion and end the season with that and an Olympic
:12:50. > :12:56.medal, it will be the icing on the cake. On Sunday we will both try to
:12:57. > :13:02.win the race, but having guys with that aim and that goal makes the
:13:03. > :13:09.race bigger and more interesting. We talk about the rivalry between Gomez
:13:10. > :13:13.and Alistair Brownlee quite a lot, but the head-to-head between Mario
:13:14. > :13:19.Mola and Jonny Brownlee is really hard and it is Jonny who has the
:13:20. > :13:24.better record. That's right, they have raced 30 times and Jonny
:13:25. > :13:31.Brownlee has won 23 of those races so he has a psychological advantage
:13:32. > :13:36.over Mola. How much would Mola like to emulate Gomez. He has been on
:13:37. > :13:44.this podium for the last three years and to go one further would be huge
:13:45. > :13:47.for him, wouldn't it? Yes, the Olympics for Mario Mola, who has
:13:48. > :13:51.been in such great form, was really disappointing. He came away with
:13:52. > :13:57.nothing, so the world title here would be amazing for him. And the
:13:58. > :14:02.conditions might suit the Spaniard. The conditions will definitely suit
:14:03. > :14:06.Mario Mola over Jonny Brownlee. Jonny is very vocal about the fact
:14:07. > :14:11.he doesn't like it so hard but he has his brother here to support him
:14:12. > :14:16.and that will help. But Mario Mola will thrive in the conditions.
:14:17. > :14:20.Speaking of the brother, Alistair has already given the Brownlee
:14:21. > :14:23.household a huge major title this year, how good would it be if Jonny
:14:24. > :14:31.could add another title? It would be outstanding of course.
:14:32. > :14:36.He has an incredible support network. Richard Varga is expected
:14:37. > :14:45.to push things on in the swim. He is the key in that trio. They're
:14:46. > :14:51.training partners in Leeds and Varga plays a significant role, because he
:14:52. > :14:55.is an outstanding swimmer and the Brownlee brothers are some of the
:14:56. > :15:07.few who can go with him on swim. And they work together on on the bike
:15:08. > :15:17.together. Now your course guide to Cozumel. Where else to start than at
:15:18. > :15:23.the sea. Unlike at Rio, there is no sandy beach and the athletes will
:15:24. > :15:33.enter the water by diving off this pontoon. After a 1,500 metre loop
:15:34. > :15:39.around the shore, they swim into the marina and into transition 1. While
:15:40. > :15:46.the sea should be calm. At around 30 degrees Celsius, it will not be what
:15:47. > :15:50.you call refreshing! Out of the water and into the saddle for a 40
:15:51. > :15:56.kilometre bike ride. Eight laps around the course, which including
:15:57. > :16:05.three hairpin bends and these tricky cobbles. The temperatures are well
:16:06. > :16:10.into the 30s and humidity of 90%. The athletes will need every ounce
:16:11. > :16:21.of energy for the last run. Four laps of two and a half kilometres.
:16:22. > :16:26.Expect to see a good few athletes fall to their knees crossing the
:16:27. > :16:35.finishing line. But for one man and one woman the pain will be Port it
:16:36. > :16:40.as they're crowned world champion. From what we have seen of the
:16:41. > :16:47.course, including in the whip's race, what -- women's race, who do
:16:48. > :16:53.you think it will suit. It will suit Mario Mola. The Brownlees like a
:16:54. > :16:57.hill and there are no hills. The swim will be tricky for Mola. We
:16:58. > :17:04.won't see the athletes exiting the water. It will sues Mola. There are
:17:05. > :17:11.some other international racers that will have a point to prove, such as
:17:12. > :17:19.Richard Murray. No one will forget him being disqualified in Hamburg.
:17:20. > :17:24.He was beaten by his countryman in Rio. He finished in fourth. He comes
:17:25. > :17:28.with a real purpose and wants to prove himself here in Cozumel. What
:17:29. > :17:36.about the British contingent. There are another couple who will want to
:17:37. > :17:45.finish strongly. Adam Baden is doing well. Tom Bishop had a good race in
:17:46. > :17:48.Edmonton. And we have got Adam Bowden and Tom Bishop. Thank you for
:17:49. > :17:55.your thoughts. We will hear more in commentary. But we are all set. The
:17:56. > :18:00.men's grand final, the last race of 2016 world triathlon series.
:18:01. > :18:27.COMMENTATOR: Here is the start. Alistair Brownlee has No 18 and Tom
:18:28. > :18:39.Bishop is 36. Final count down for the final race. On the international
:18:40. > :18:45.triathlon world series. They're ready to race in Cozumel and they're
:18:46. > :18:54.away. The massed start. 68 elite triathletes get going for the final
:18:55. > :19:02.time in 2016 and it could be messy. One or two already getting bumped
:19:03. > :19:07.out of position. Nobody will hold anything back during this swim.
:19:08. > :19:13.Because the world title is on the line and that was a vicious start.
:19:14. > :19:17.Some of the guys got pushed physically out of their racing line.
:19:18. > :19:22.We will keep an eye on the the early stages here. Air temperature 33.3.
:19:23. > :19:33.Water temperature look at that - almost as hot as the air - 29
:19:34. > :19:39.degrees and we expect 90% humidity. Yes it will feel very hot on the
:19:40. > :19:46.bike. At the moment they're in the water and that is warm for the
:19:47. > :19:51.athletes. That he will be used training in lore pool temperatures.
:19:52. > :19:59.On the left that is where the Brownlee brothers took off. Didn't
:20:00. > :20:03.see Richard Varga, their training partner, we would expect to see him
:20:04. > :20:11.at the front of swim. An interesting start. I have never seen anything
:20:12. > :20:19.like that in a straight line and they're clambering on each other.
:20:20. > :20:29.Aurelien Raphael is one to watch in the swim. The Brownlee brothers
:20:30. > :20:33.won't be too far behind. From Mola's perspective, he needs a good swim.
:20:34. > :20:45.That is something he failed to deliver in the Olympics. The rank
:20:46. > :20:50.rgs fightish between -- the rankings are tightish between them. Only
:20:51. > :20:56.Alarza that could do any damage at the top of the rankings. But Mola
:20:57. > :21:08.the man to beat. I sense the conditions will suit him. The swim
:21:09. > :21:23.is crucial and Mola will have to have the swim of his life and
:21:24. > :21:37.Aurelien Raphael finished in fifth, one of his best positions so far. M
:21:38. > :21:43.Mola -- Mario Mola, he will need to finish on the podium to win. The
:21:44. > :21:51.Alistair Brownlee factor is another element. Alistair can't win the
:21:52. > :21:58.world title. He may well be racing with the purpose to assist his
:21:59. > :22:04.brother in Jonny's quest to win the world title. If Alistair can play a
:22:05. > :22:11.part in pushing Jonny to the top of the podium and taking the world
:22:12. > :22:14.title, that he would do for the second #250i78, Alistair will have
:22:15. > :22:20.no hesitation in helping his younger brother. Alistair's only race, he
:22:21. > :22:24.raced three times in the Gold Coast, when he had a disastrous race, but
:22:25. > :22:31.got that out of his system and went on to win the Leeds and Stoke mope
:22:32. > :22:35.race before -- Stockholm race before retaining his Olympic medal. He is
:22:36. > :22:39.not a contender for the title and it is possible he is here today to help
:22:40. > :22:48.his little brother along and see if he can give him a leg up on to the
:22:49. > :22:53.top of the podium. The key for the quest for Mario Mola to win the
:22:54. > :22:58.title is that he has a good swim and suspect too far off the pace. If
:22:59. > :23:04.Mario Mola finds himself in the second group which separates from
:23:05. > :23:09.the leaders as the cycle stage unfolds, then he, despite his proven
:23:10. > :23:13.running capabilities will struggle to match the Brownlees over the
:23:14. > :23:23.10,000 metres run if they're in the front pack. All this is the
:23:24. > :23:29.conjecture at the moment. Mola could be in the leading group. All will be
:23:30. > :23:37.revealed when they come out of the water. It will be around a 17 minute
:23:38. > :23:45.swim. That is a quick, quick time. I thought they were pushing the pace.
:23:46. > :23:51.It will be under 17 minutes by world triathlon series that is a fast
:23:52. > :24:01.time. 1,500 metres in the water is done and it looks like the Frenchman
:24:02. > :24:04.Aurelien Raphael and the Brownlees second and third. Bishop is up
:24:05. > :24:26.there. No sign of name Mario Mola just yet.
:24:27. > :24:34.He came out about 25 seconds slower than Raphael. Raphael, the big
:24:35. > :24:39.French mavn Frenchman on the right. The brothers, good tactics for them.
:24:40. > :24:44.They're first out of water. Arriving in transition together. So far, so
:24:45. > :24:52.good. Tactics for the brothers have paid off so far and they're on their
:24:53. > :24:58.way clear of their training partner, Richard Varga. Mola is coming in now
:24:59. > :25:04.to his bike. Mola has got work to do. There is a potentially effective
:25:05. > :25:10.working quartet out in front ahead and Mola will have to get to work
:25:11. > :25:15.now. Raphael picks it up. We have got six guys which could quickly
:25:16. > :25:21.become nine or possibly even 12. Things will develop during this
:25:22. > :25:25.first lap. Crucially, we have got the Brownlee brothers away leading
:25:26. > :25:32.this race. Sightings of Tom Bishop as well. That was a great swim for
:25:33. > :25:37.him. He finished in fifth in Edmonton. Mola being pushed out of
:25:38. > :25:45.the way by one of the other athletes. I think struggling to get
:25:46. > :25:50.his feet into the pedals. Murray does some great work on the bike.
:25:51. > :25:54.But this is one big pack. Somebody has trouble already. Somebody's gone
:25:55. > :25:58.to the wheel stop. One of the Swiss athletes I think. He looked like he
:25:59. > :26:04.may have had to called it quits already. Here tifs front of the
:26:05. > :26:11.field -- here is the front of field, where they're in the early stages of
:26:12. > :26:17.their first lap of eight. That is the Bishop trio. Bishop, Billington
:26:18. > :26:22.and one other have work to do. They have a group of nine in front of
:26:23. > :26:37.them. We could develop into a dozen or so here. Following transition 1,
:26:38. > :26:48.Jonathan Brownlee, Pereira and Raphael.
:26:49. > :26:59.Varga strangely slow on the swim today. We will keep an eye on the
:27:00. > :27:03.Mario Mola position. 21 seconds off the pace after the swim for man who
:27:04. > :27:11.hopes to win the world title for the first time today. It is not a bad
:27:12. > :27:17.group. I would prefer less on these very tight corners. I counted three
:27:18. > :27:22.180 degree turns on eight loops. That is 24 in total. What that can
:27:23. > :27:26.do, it can work to a group's advantage or disadvantage, because
:27:27. > :27:31.in a big pack, you're slowed up. If you're in a small pack, you will get
:27:32. > :27:36.around the corners quicker. Nine guys in total and then a motorcycle
:27:37. > :27:42.and then a couple more trying to get involved with the big boys at the
:27:43. > :27:48.front. This is is the Brownlee brothers' group of nine. A good
:27:49. > :28:03.start. They have got decent distance between themselves and Mario Mola.
:28:04. > :28:07.The gap now is from the graphic from the overhead graphic which is
:28:08. > :28:12.notoriously unreliable, 27 seconds at the moment. You can see Aaron
:28:13. > :28:41.Royle on the back. Salvisberg is there. Three of the
:28:42. > :28:45.Olympic medallists are in this front group. Making the turn to
:28:46. > :28:49.transition. They're approaching the end of their first lap of eight.
:28:50. > :29:02.That is where we will take our count between the leaders and the chasers.
:29:03. > :29:09.Salvisberg, we thought he may have pulled up, but he is clear. 40 on
:29:10. > :29:13.the left is the American, Gregory Billington. He is sharing the
:29:14. > :29:19.workload at the front. They continue down to the water. One or two
:29:20. > :29:23.further turns to negotiate before they stop the clock at the end of
:29:24. > :29:28.the first lap as they cross through transition for the first time. Tom
:29:29. > :29:32.Bishop behind. What a shame he hasn't been able to jump on the back
:29:33. > :29:37.of this lead pack. He was five or six seconds down and that is what
:29:38. > :29:38.can happen when you have the likes of Brownlee brothers riding like
:29:39. > :29:59.they are at the moment. The other athlete in this pack is a
:30:00. > :30:10.rare, who did so well in the Olympics when he was way back. This
:30:11. > :30:14.is who we have in the first group of nine and the clock is ticking, the
:30:15. > :30:19.gap is already 20 seconds and growing. It is a good start as the
:30:20. > :30:24.Brownlee brothers attempt to prevent Mario Mola from winning the world
:30:25. > :30:32.title and possibly handing it to Jonathan Brownlee. The next group
:30:33. > :30:38.are 29 seconds down. Mario Mola is 30 seconds off the pace. And I
:30:39. > :30:44.really can't see this pack getting itself together, it is a huge park.
:30:45. > :30:49.Basically the rest of the men's field are in this case pack and that
:30:50. > :30:53.will make it very hard to make any serious inroads into the Chase Park.
:30:54. > :31:02.I don't want to speak too soon but when you have a little part of
:31:03. > :31:10.around eight athletes, they will the working a lot more effectively than
:31:11. > :31:14.the huge Chase Park. Mola has been the most successful triathlete of
:31:15. > :31:19.the season so far, winning in Abu Dhabi, again on the Gold Coast, and
:31:20. > :31:25.again in Yokohama, then took the sprint event in Hamburg, and Mario
:31:26. > :31:31.Mola has got a lot of work to do in the searing heat of Cozumel if he is
:31:32. > :31:40.to claim the world title. We are back with the leaders now, Fabian of
:31:41. > :31:48.Italy. High above we have a drone just tailing them down the road. The
:31:49. > :31:53.water of the Caribbean to the top right of your screen, to give you an
:31:54. > :31:59.idea of geography, you can see that in the distance. Fabian still
:32:00. > :32:04.stalking Henri Schoeman. They have had a close call, Schoeman will want
:32:05. > :32:10.to avoid another one. Arrived in Durban, returning from Rio treated
:32:11. > :32:16.like a hero. He became the first man from Africa to lift a triathlon
:32:17. > :32:23.Olympic medal. 38 seconds now, the distance between Jonny Brownlee and
:32:24. > :32:28.Mario Mola. If Jonny Brownlee wins and Mario Mola is for or worse,
:32:29. > :32:32.Jonny Brownlee wins the title. Approaching the end of the second
:32:33. > :32:37.lap and it looks like Alistair is making a concerted effort to lead
:32:38. > :32:40.his brother to the world title. Leaving it all on the line in the
:32:41. > :32:50.early stages of this triathlon this afternoon. Look at him really
:32:51. > :32:57.injecting further pace into the contest. Then he yields, and just
:32:58. > :33:07.let Fabian come through and take it up. Last time they crossed this
:33:08. > :33:11.point, the gap to the Mario Mola group was 30 seconds. It may well
:33:12. > :33:17.have grown further now. The leading group of nine holding nothing back,
:33:18. > :33:22.getting quicker and quicker. Now the Mola group, which looks like it is
:33:23. > :33:31.in single file as it comes through the part of the course towards
:33:32. > :33:38.transition. 30 seconds has been and gone, it might be closer to 40 at
:33:39. > :33:44.the end of the second lap. Here we go, 38 seconds, so 38 seconds at the
:33:45. > :33:53.end of lap one, 38 seconds at the end of lap two, a significant dent
:33:54. > :33:58.done to Mario Mola's quest to win the world title. Mario can come from
:33:59. > :34:06.a long way back and still get on the podium but his task is being made
:34:07. > :34:11.tougher and tougher lap by lap. The pace is unrelenting and the workload
:34:12. > :34:16.is being evenly shared. Jonny is at the back, Alistair won in front of
:34:17. > :34:20.him, then next up Henri Schoeman. Billington is taking his turn, then
:34:21. > :34:27.his wings out to his right, and Raphael comes through and goes. He
:34:28. > :34:35.takes his turn, does the work on two wheels as well. Salvisberg of
:34:36. > :34:45.Switzerland is in that park as well, he has a lot of experience. There is
:34:46. > :34:51.the penalty box, hopefully it won't be used, but you never know. The
:34:52. > :34:58.slide infringement with the clothing, not hitting the line or
:34:59. > :35:08.some penalty picked up by the judges could mean a ten second or 15
:35:09. > :35:21.seconds standing stop later. They are roared through transition. Jonny
:35:22. > :35:27.Brownlee is attempting, with his brother's help, and the help of the
:35:28. > :35:33.rest of this group, to deny Mario Mola his world title today.
:35:34. > :35:39.Basically, if Jonathan wins and Mario is not on the podium, Jonathan
:35:40. > :35:45.will be crowned World Series triathlon champion, as Flora Duffy
:35:46. > :35:56.was yesterday for Bermuda. The group well spread as they come into the
:35:57. > :36:02.end of the third lap now. It is 46 seconds, so from 30 seconds at the
:36:03. > :36:07.end of one, the 38 seconds at the end of lap two, stretched now by
:36:08. > :36:13.another eight seconds to 46 seconds, and we are not even at halfway on
:36:14. > :36:18.the cycle stage yet. Great performance by this group of nine at
:36:19. > :36:28.the front. They are approaching the next turn, taking them down towards
:36:29. > :36:34.the end of the fifth lap, and after that it will be just 15 kilometres
:36:35. > :36:39.left on two wheels. The front group of eight, with the Brownlee brothers
:36:40. > :36:43.controlling the momentum of this competition so far, as Alistair
:36:44. > :36:49.attempts to guide Jonathan towards his second, what would be his second
:36:50. > :36:54.world triathlon series title. Unless of course Alistair decides he wants
:36:55. > :36:56.to win this race his self and that could have further bearing on
:36:57. > :37:02.Jonathan 's ability to win the title. I somehow can't see that
:37:03. > :37:05.happening but what will be interesting is that Alistair needs
:37:06. > :37:11.to run well because we need Mola to finish further back down the field,
:37:12. > :37:14.so it is important Alistair gets out there. I can't see him wanting to
:37:15. > :37:19.beat his brother in the race because he knows that every point will help
:37:20. > :37:26.Jonny Brownlee, every point that he is above Mola. There are words being
:37:27. > :37:31.exchanged between the brothers as they conclude the fifth allowed. I
:37:32. > :37:36.wonder if they are thinking if Alistair can take a pacemaker's roll
:37:37. > :37:41.on the run. He can lead transition once they have hung up their bikes
:37:42. > :37:47.and really put a burst in before he can ease off and let Jonny take it
:37:48. > :37:50.home for the win. That could be something that might have come into
:37:51. > :37:55.their tactical planning pre-race. I'm guessing but we will see. It's
:37:56. > :38:16.possible because the brothers likes to work together. Here we have the
:38:17. > :38:21.Chase pack. Russell White racing for Ireland. We got an indication
:38:22. > :38:30.mid-lap there might be further damage done, and the pace doesn't
:38:31. > :38:35.exactly look electrifying from the Wilson led group. It is already more
:38:36. > :38:44.than a minute, that is a huge lap in terms of gains for the Brownlee
:38:45. > :38:50.group and losses for the Mola group. More than a minute down. I didn't
:38:51. > :38:58.see that coming, that is a huge amount they have gained on the fifth
:38:59. > :39:02.lap. 15 kilometres to go. They are just getting a little bit segmented
:39:03. > :39:08.now, not working as well as they were previously. I can see Mario
:39:09. > :39:14.Mola tucked in there, he probably doesn't want to do a lot of work, he
:39:15. > :39:17.will be hoping when he gets off the bike the gap isn't too big and he
:39:18. > :39:28.can run down some of the athletes in the front pack. The Brownlee
:39:29. > :39:33.brothers may have added another ten seconds to their lead, we will get
:39:34. > :39:43.that confirmed in a moment because they are about to complete their
:39:44. > :39:48.sixth lap. What has Jonny got tucked into his suit? It may be an ice
:39:49. > :39:52.pack, we saw that in the women's group yesterday, they were using
:39:53. > :39:56.them to keep their core body temperature down. It is important
:39:57. > :40:00.they get on board a little bit of carbohydrate, they will be burning a
:40:01. > :40:06.huge amount with this heat, the body trying to regulate the temperature
:40:07. > :40:12.of the body. 33.5 degrees here and it is already late in the afternoon.
:40:13. > :40:20.With 90% humidity it feels more like 45 degrees. Six laps down, two laps
:40:21. > :40:26.to go, the clock ticks on, and we wait for the arrival of the Mola
:40:27. > :40:33.group, as the Brownlee group, led at this stage by the French swim
:40:34. > :40:38.specialist Raphael, make their way from transition and outs to start
:40:39. > :40:48.their seventh lap. There was a little more urgency on the faces of
:40:49. > :41:03.the riders here, with the Italian leading them to the conclusion of
:41:04. > :41:09.that sixth lap, Facchinetti. It was when -- a minute and five seconds
:41:10. > :41:14.last time the group reached this stage, I fear it is more like one
:41:15. > :41:18.minute and 15 now, which makes life more and more difficult for Mario
:41:19. > :41:26.Mola. In fact they haven't even hit the carpet yet, and it is one minute
:41:27. > :41:31.ten. It is one minute 15 exactly, so another ten seconds of damage done
:41:32. > :41:36.by Alistair, Jonathan and the rest of that group of eight out in the
:41:37. > :41:46.front. The first lap, 30 seconds, then 38, and it has grown. Laps
:41:47. > :41:52.three and four the only time it has stayed still, 36 seconds at the end
:41:53. > :41:57.of each of those laps. Out to one minute and 15 at the end of lap six,
:41:58. > :42:07.and now they are deep in lap seven and show no sign of slowing down.
:42:08. > :42:10.Yes, these guys do like to have a hard bike. Talking a lot about the
:42:11. > :42:14.heat today and that's probably because it is one of the hottest
:42:15. > :42:21.days they have raced, certainly this year in the triathlon series, and
:42:22. > :42:25.Jonny will need to save a bit for the run. He has been vocal about the
:42:26. > :42:31.fact he prefers the cold to the heat. It was proven in Edmonton,
:42:32. > :42:35.where it was bitterly cold, Jonny got his first triathlon series
:42:36. > :42:41.victory of the season, having had a couple of close ones. Finished third
:42:42. > :42:46.in the Gold Coast, second in Cape Town. Second behind his brother in
:42:47. > :42:50.Leeds, and again in Stockholm. Second behind his brother in the
:42:51. > :42:58.Olympics, then finally got the victory in Edmonton ahead of Mario
:42:59. > :43:07.Mola and Richard Murray two weeks ago. Yes, in the last two World
:43:08. > :43:11.Series, there have only been two other nationalities apart from Great
:43:12. > :43:20.Britain and Spain that have won races, and that was France, and
:43:21. > :43:23.Richard Murray who won Edmonton, otherwise it has been the Brits and
:43:24. > :43:44.Spaniards ruling the triathlon series.
:43:45. > :43:53.Kanute, propping up the race group. Keeping his head down. This is
:43:54. > :44:02.another six seconds this group, who we are following with the drone,
:44:03. > :44:06.have had -- added. There's a few guys at the front of the chase pack
:44:07. > :44:12.who are not working hard, but you come in and out of these terms, of
:44:13. > :44:15.which there are 24 of them, I think it just really slows the pace down
:44:16. > :44:19.but when you are in the smaller pack you can work much more effectively
:44:20. > :44:26.and come in and out of the turns faster. netty, Next time they get to
:44:27. > :44:33.this stage they will be hanging up their bikes. After an hour and
:44:34. > :44:39.almost 7 minutes, of this triathlon, which suggests we have about 48
:44:40. > :44:49.minutes to go, the Brownlee brothers are in command. Alistair, the
:44:50. > :45:04.Olympic champion, Jonny the Olympic silver-medallist, joined by the
:45:05. > :45:15.Olympic bronze-medallist, Shoeman. They're on their way for their final
:45:16. > :45:22.lap as the clock continues to tick down. Great racing from Billington,
:45:23. > :45:27.27 years old, he is the leading American here. He did qualify when
:45:28. > :45:34.he finished in top 10 in the Gold Coast. The first time we have seen
:45:35. > :45:40.him up at the front of the pack in the world series. One more circuit
:45:41. > :45:47.for this group of eight. Still no sign of the chasers in transition.
:45:48. > :45:56.Now they're on their way. Still Wilson at the front. Where is Mola?
:45:57. > :46:00.Mola out the back of this group. He has just gone through two thirds of
:46:01. > :46:10.the way down. Further damage down, it will be closer to 1.25. It is
:46:11. > :46:17.1.26, another eleven seconds damage done. That is the distance between
:46:18. > :46:23.Jonathan Brownlee and Mario Mola. Almost a minute a half, with one
:46:24. > :46:31.more lap on two wheels to come. Mola's quest to win his first world
:46:32. > :46:37.title is unravelling. The question is - how's Mola feeling. Has he got
:46:38. > :46:43.his running legs and who can he run down in that chase pack. It will be
:46:44. > :46:56.hard to run down the Brownlee brothers.
:46:57. > :47:05.Mola has really got his work cut out. The front group of eight are
:47:06. > :47:14.into their last Klimmer the. - kilometre. Mario Mola will want to
:47:15. > :47:19.get there at the front of the group. Then he can attempt to hunt down the
:47:20. > :47:23.leaders without having to slalom through his fellow chase group
:47:24. > :47:27.riders. The leaders are on their final stretch. They have ridden
:47:28. > :47:33.well. They have worked together as a nice group. And they're now heading
:47:34. > :47:39.to transition. For the second time. To complete the 40 kilometre cycle
:47:40. > :47:46.stage. The advantage they had last time over the chasers was a minute
:47:47. > :47:52.and 31 seconds. That was mid lap. Now, the formalities of transition
:47:53. > :48:08.arrive. The bikes are... About to be hung up. The guys are in no Hurry.
:48:09. > :48:14.The Brownlee brothers arrive, leave the shoes attached to the pedals.
:48:15. > :48:20.Alistair arrives, the Olympic champion, front wheel in. Younger
:48:21. > :48:31.brother, Jonny, gets his running shoes on and he is away.
:48:32. > :48:42.Expect to see Fabyan and Raphael lose touch relatively quickly and we
:48:43. > :48:48.will see how Billington copes with the early pace. The run is on. And
:48:49. > :48:53.Jonny Brownlee picks up a couple of bottles. He may head for another
:48:54. > :48:58.one. Four bottles in total. Four Bott billion shower and he has
:48:59. > :49:05.Schoeman for company and Jonny has hit the front. Henri Schoeman
:49:06. > :49:12.second. They're on their way out for their first lap of four. Four laps
:49:13. > :49:17.of 2.5ks each to conclude the final race of season. By the time that is
:49:18. > :49:23.done, we will know who the champion of the world is. Mola has done the
:49:24. > :49:31.smart thing and weaved his way to the front of the chase group. We can
:49:32. > :49:40.see that Blummenfelt dismounting first. The time 1.30 behind the lead
:49:41. > :49:51.group. Mola on the left of screen. He has got himself clear of any
:49:52. > :49:56.danger. Grajales is in good shape. Mola is always good in transition.
:49:57. > :50:01.He is away. He has a minute and 37 seconds to make up and he has 10
:50:02. > :50:08.kilometres in which to do it. It is a tough call for Mario Mola. He has
:50:09. > :50:16.got Geens of Belgium for company and White of Ireland. Murray and Mola
:50:17. > :50:21.could combine forces here. Tom Bishop going through Alarza and
:50:22. > :50:30.Hernandez, two of the other big guns from the Spanish team. Out in front
:50:31. > :50:37.Jonny Brownlee leads, with Henri Schoeman on his shoulder. I would
:50:38. > :50:46.like to see Alistair Brownlee join them. It is important this three
:50:47. > :50:52.work together to stay away from Mo Los la -- Mola. He looked like he
:50:53. > :51:04.meant business. He even had time to pick up his familiar white vizor. He
:51:05. > :51:10.would have had engagement with the media and he went to Beijing to do
:51:11. > :51:16.the race there. So Alistair perhaps feeling the pressure today. You know
:51:17. > :51:22.what, maybe Alistair is positioning himself there, behind Jonathan and
:51:23. > :51:27.Schoeman, maybe he is tactically positioning himself off the front in
:51:28. > :51:32.order to deal with Mola if Mola comes charging through. Maybe he is
:51:33. > :51:37.sort of acting as a shield back there. We will see. Was this could
:51:38. > :51:41.be -- but this could be a tactic they have considered. Or maybe
:51:42. > :51:46.Alistair will regroup and kick on and join in the fun at the front. He
:51:47. > :51:49.is back in third. He looks full of running still, despite the fact that
:51:50. > :51:56.he is four or five seconds off the pace. Mola look like he is cruising
:51:57. > :52:01.along the streets of Cozumel. He is a man on a mission. Alistair looks
:52:02. > :52:07.like, it is difficult to see, but I think he is about to jump on the
:52:08. > :52:15.back of Schoeman there. They're not even a fifth of the way through this
:52:16. > :52:24.run. 10ks in total and they have 8.3 to run. Shortly they will complete
:52:25. > :52:36.the first lap of four. Mola's picked up a running partner in the shape of
:52:37. > :52:40.Ryan Baily of Australia. That is interesting for Mola that Baily is
:52:41. > :52:53.alongside him. He has come from behind. I don't know if that is good
:52:54. > :53:00.or bad for Mola. He wouldn't expect Baily run him down. All three men
:53:01. > :53:07.using every available water station and they are every where around the
:53:08. > :53:20.course. The Brownlee brothers know the importance of keeping cool. We
:53:21. > :53:27.have seen both of them them in different races. It happened to
:53:28. > :53:36.Alistair once in Hyde Park and it was mid 20s. 2010, yes. He has
:53:37. > :53:44.caught his brother. What a confident triathlete Henri Schoeman is after
:53:45. > :53:50.that Olympic bronze. Seems to have given him renewed belief. He has
:53:51. > :53:58.proved he is one of best all-rounders in Rio with that
:53:59. > :54:03.bronze. Here he is taking on v it on with the Brownlees. As the four
:54:04. > :54:07.lapse unfold, we will keep a check on the type difference between the
:54:08. > :54:14.-- time difference between the two main gold medal contenders, the two
:54:15. > :54:24.main title contenders, Jonathan Brownlee and Mario Mola. One hour,
:54:25. > :54:31.22 minutes and 12 seconds at the end of lap one. Schoeman and the
:54:32. > :54:39.brothers out on their own. Running past their bikes. And out on their
:54:40. > :54:43.way to start lap 2. A glance over Alistair's should tore size up the
:54:44. > :54:50.-- shoulder to size up the position of the main opposition. They have a
:54:51. > :54:56.gap of 11 seconds to Fabyan. Billington is a further eight back.
:54:57. > :55:00.The last time we checked on this man's time difference it was under a
:55:01. > :55:07.minute and a half. But Mola had only managed to take three or four
:55:08. > :55:12.seconds out of the brown lease during the first -- Brownlees during
:55:13. > :55:19.the first half of the first lap. Pushing on to transition now, Mario
:55:20. > :55:27.Mola and Richard Murray for company. He has good company, good running
:55:28. > :55:34.ability in this group of five. Already passed a minute. It is going
:55:35. > :55:42.to be closer to 1.20 - something like that. Mola's managing to reduce
:55:43. > :55:50.the deficit. But not by any real significant amount so far. 1.21,
:55:51. > :55:54.Mario Mola is 1.21 behind Jonny Brownlee at the end of the first
:55:55. > :55:59.lap. They have pulled back just ten seconds. It depends on how they're
:56:00. > :56:04.feeling. We saw with Gwen yesterday, how she ran out her normal running
:56:05. > :56:10.style, very fast and we thought she would run her down, but the heat
:56:11. > :56:14.gets to the athletes. 10 seconds? That is a decent amount. But that,
:56:15. > :56:20.you work that out and that is not going to be enough to take this race
:56:21. > :56:24.if this continues at the face and Mario Mola isn't able to increase
:56:25. > :56:33.his pace. Back with the chasing group of five now. Bailie of
:56:34. > :56:43.Australia and Mario Mola, the leader, in danger of seeing his
:56:44. > :56:48.world title slip from his grasp in Cozumel, because Jonathan Brownlee
:56:49. > :56:56.could snatch it from him. He has Henri Schoeman in second and his
:56:57. > :57:00.brother Alistair for company. Three Olympic medallists together deep in
:57:01. > :57:05.the second lap. It is a great sight. It proves that the medals they won
:57:06. > :57:11.in the Olympics in Rio, they're able to do it again here at the grand
:57:12. > :57:15.final. Mola is pushing on again. He is eager to pick up the pace. The
:57:16. > :57:22.other four able to match him each time he goes. We know about Richard
:57:23. > :57:30.Murray's running abilities. And Grajales seems to be thriving in the
:57:31. > :57:36.heat in his home race. Ryan Bailie is in good shape as well. Getting to
:57:37. > :57:42.half way. So with two laps down and two to go, they will have five
:57:43. > :57:51.kilometres left to run. But the business end of the hat weather --
:57:52. > :57:54.hot weather triathlons can often produce the surprise, dramatic
:57:55. > :57:58.moments when triathletes just run out of reserves, blow up in the
:57:59. > :58:05.heat. There is real pace about the Mola group with the setting sun
:58:06. > :58:13.behind. But the heat is not leaving. It is... Absolutely roasting out
:58:14. > :58:19.there this evening. Mola pulling his running partners along here. They
:58:20. > :58:24.managed to take a few seconds out of Brownlee brothers and Henri Schoeman
:58:25. > :58:28.during the first lap. These three are about to complete their second
:58:29. > :58:35.lap and we will see what damage has been done. Mola's made another move.
:58:36. > :58:39.It is another ten seconds he has taken out of brothers and Schoeman.
:58:40. > :58:45.But only ten seconds. With only two laps to go, Mola's running out of
:58:46. > :58:50.road in which to make a meaningful move. If they can go out on to the
:58:51. > :58:55.second to last lap with five kilometres to go, knowing they have
:58:56. > :59:02.a minute over Mola, that will give them a lot of confidence.
:59:03. > :59:15.The end of lap two, no change at the front, Schumann and the Brownlees.
:59:16. > :59:21.The Olympic medallists together as a trio. And the clock on your screen,
:59:22. > :59:27.that is the time we are watching, that is the difference between
:59:28. > :59:32.Jonathan Brownlee and Mario Mola, the two title contenders. Last time
:59:33. > :59:41.they completed a lap, it was a minute and 21 seconds. Alessandro
:59:42. > :59:46.Fabian has had a good race so far, a good swim, an excellent cycle, now
:59:47. > :00:00.starting to languish as a lonely runner in the heat of the late
:00:01. > :00:06.afternoon. Mola group, still ... Getting on for one minute behind, as
:00:07. > :00:23.Royle, Billington and Raphael come through, and Salvisberg, all rode
:00:24. > :00:28.with Jonny Brownlee. Is Mola getting closer to the Brownlee brothers and
:00:29. > :00:34.Schumann? It doesn't look like it. From one minute 21 at the end of lap
:00:35. > :00:43.one, the one minute 15 at the end of lap two, it will take a seat --
:00:44. > :00:48.superhuman effort for Mario Mola to do some damage to the lead that
:00:49. > :00:53.these three have in the race. There are various other situations we need
:00:54. > :01:01.to consider, and included in that is if Jonathan doesn't win this race.
:01:02. > :01:05.We assume that Alistair might not race him for the finish and allow
:01:06. > :01:12.him to win and therefore win the title, assuming Mola doesn't produce
:01:13. > :01:17.some incredible five K finish, but what if Schumann forces Jonathan
:01:18. > :01:23.down in the second. If he does that, and Mola was to finish fifth, then
:01:24. > :01:31.Mola would win the title by four points. Mathematically it is going
:01:32. > :01:37.to be interesting if Mola goes through the Salvisberg, Fabian,
:01:38. > :01:44.Billington group, and gets up into that fifth place part of the race,
:01:45. > :01:53.which he seems to be capable of doing. Because he's approaching
:01:54. > :01:59.Raphael. Salvisberg is next, then Billington, then Royle. It won't
:02:00. > :02:06.happen quickly. Alistair is just losing touch with Jonathan and Henri
:02:07. > :02:15.Schoeman, and maybe Jonny might consider trying to move clear of
:02:16. > :02:21.Henri Schoeman. Are they heading over for liquid? Schumann is, Jonny
:02:22. > :02:28.decides to take one on the right, rather than heading over to the main
:02:29. > :02:33.water station on the left. He has a gap over Schoeman of 34 metres, and
:02:34. > :02:47.it seems to be stretching a little now. -- of three or four metres.
:02:48. > :02:50.Their still 3.4 kilometres to go, and Alistair needs to hang on
:02:51. > :02:58.because if it finishes in this order, then Jonny Brownlee takes the
:02:59. > :03:04.title. Yes, but Mario Mola might still have a part to play. Adam
:03:05. > :03:10.Bowden, what a race he is having. Good season for him. So it is the
:03:11. > :03:14.Olympic silver medallist in first, the Olympic bronze medallist in
:03:15. > :03:18.second, and the Olympic gold medallist in the third in this race.
:03:19. > :03:25.If it finishes like that, Jonny Brownlee will be the champion of the
:03:26. > :03:30.world for the second time. Alistair Brownlee is such a smart racer, I'm
:03:31. > :03:35.wondering if he is looking after himself slightly. He knew that with
:03:36. > :03:41.five kilometres to go, he knew he had one minute and 15 seconds over
:03:42. > :03:47.Mola. That is quite a bit. There will be coaches out there, physios
:03:48. > :03:51.giving them the time difference, I'm wondering if he is thinking he
:03:52. > :03:58.doesn't want to end up like he did in 2010 in Hyde Park, I will just do
:03:59. > :04:07.enough to go over the line third. Could he be thinking like that? Who
:04:08. > :04:12.knows? Again, Jonny does a lot of showering but not a lot of drinking.
:04:13. > :04:16.Interesting, in his interview he said he had forgotten how to win
:04:17. > :04:22.races and it was when he went to Edmonton but he said he suddenly
:04:23. > :04:26.remembered what it was to win races, what it feels like, and that has
:04:27. > :04:33.been very positive for him. It was a tough race in Edmonton, very cold,
:04:34. > :04:37.but it reminded him how to get back to his winning ways. Because he has
:04:38. > :04:44.been finishing second a lot to his brother this year. If he wins here,
:04:45. > :04:49.he will have won the hottest race of the year and the coldest race of the
:04:50. > :04:56.year, he will prove he is a man for all seasons. After three laps he has
:04:57. > :04:59.a lead over Henri Schoeman of seven seconds, with a further one second
:05:00. > :05:05.to Alistair Brownlee, his older brother. He takes the bell, 2.5
:05:06. > :05:11.kilometres to go. If it stays like this Jonny Brownlee will be the
:05:12. > :05:19.World Series champion 2016. Kilometres to run. Mario Mola has
:05:20. > :05:24.been dropped by Richard Murray, that could be key. Murray has made a
:05:25. > :05:29.break, and we know how he can move his way up through the field in the
:05:30. > :05:34.final lap of a race. He came from nowhere to claim fourth in the
:05:35. > :05:39.Olympic triathlon, Richard Murray, and he has kicked clear of his
:05:40. > :05:43.training partner, Mario Mola. I thought it was going to get tricky
:05:44. > :05:48.if they were going to get down to a sprint finish. Is Richard going to
:05:49. > :05:53.say I will help you out here, but it looks like Mola cannot go with
:05:54. > :06:01.Murray so he has got to go out there and do his own thing. Murray is
:06:02. > :06:10.bowling along. Mola is running shoulder to shoulder with Bailie.
:06:11. > :06:18.One minute and 12 between Jonny Brownlee and Mario Mola. It is all
:06:19. > :06:23.over for Mario Mola. If Jonny Brownlee can keep it up for the last
:06:24. > :06:30.couple of kilometres, then the world title is his for the taking. Yes, I
:06:31. > :06:35.wouldn't say he's running scared at the moment, but with most athletes,
:06:36. > :06:39.until they have crossed the finish line, and you know you have done it,
:06:40. > :06:44.you just don't want to let up, but I think at this point in the race
:06:45. > :06:49.Jonny Brownlee can start to cruise and start thinking about that world
:06:50. > :06:56.title because Mola is right back down the road, one minute 12 seconds
:06:57. > :07:02.behind. Alistair has caught Henri Schoeman and will be considering the
:07:03. > :07:12.possibility of a Brownlee brothers one-two. Flora Duffey clinched the
:07:13. > :07:15.World Series for 2016 in the women's race, it could be the same for Jonny
:07:16. > :07:26.Brownlee this afternoon with under one kilometre and a half to go. 1.2
:07:27. > :07:30.now for Jonny, nearly done. The tactics that the Brownlee brothers
:07:31. > :07:44.have employed have once again proved to be world beating tactics.
:07:45. > :07:59.Lots of support for Jonny, on the outer stretches of the run course
:08:00. > :08:02.now. Schoeman and Brownlee, the older brother Alister, are
:08:03. > :08:08.potentially setting up for a sprint finish for second and third, while
:08:09. > :08:15.Jonny starts to think about claiming his second world title. He last won
:08:16. > :08:25.this in 2012. It will be a repeat podium of the Rio games in a
:08:26. > :08:32.different order. Jonathan Brownlee looking around. He's just starting
:08:33. > :08:38.to wobble a bit, Jonathan Brownlee. We have seen this from him before.
:08:39. > :08:43.He's not running in the most direct trajectory, and he's starting to
:08:44. > :08:48.slalom now, and Jonny is starting to lose his sense of direction. We have
:08:49. > :08:55.seen this from him a couple of times before. Now, Jonny has got to win to
:08:56. > :08:58.be sure of taking the title, and right now he seems to have lost
:08:59. > :09:05.control of his legs, and this is worrying. He is starting to slow,
:09:06. > :09:12.and there is a little way to go. There is kilometre to go, and Jonny
:09:13. > :09:18.is running out of time and he's losing... He's losing his sense of
:09:19. > :09:26.direction. This is worrying. Goodness me, this is a horrible
:09:27. > :09:30.sight. Jonathan Brownlee has lost it now and staggered to a stop at the
:09:31. > :09:36.side of the course. Alistair has stopped to help them along, and
:09:37. > :09:41.Alistair will try and carry his brother home. What will this do to
:09:42. > :09:45.the world title hopes? Henri Schoeman will claim his first world
:09:46. > :09:55.triathlon series wins. Dramatic scenes in Cozumel as the Olympic
:09:56. > :10:00.champion carries his younger brother towards the podium. I cannot believe
:10:01. > :10:09.what we are seeing here. Is this allowed? Is that part of the rules?
:10:10. > :10:17.I'm not too sure. Unbelievable scenes. Unbelievable scenes in
:10:18. > :10:25.Cozumel. The Brownlee brothers arm in arm but it is not by way of
:10:26. > :10:29.celebration. Henri Schoeman will win this race but we have got to be
:10:30. > :10:35.concerned about the health of Jonathan Brownlee. They are not even
:10:36. > :10:40.on the final stretch yet. Schoeman wins in Cozumel. The brothers are
:10:41. > :10:49.coming home arm in arm to finish second and third but Jonathan can
:10:50. > :10:57.hardly stand and Alistair is pushing him home for second. Goodness me,
:10:58. > :11:03.what an incredible conclusion here. Jonathan needs some medical
:11:04. > :11:15.attention fast. We need to check on the finishing position of Mario
:11:16. > :11:23.Mola. It is a one-two-three. Mario Mola has finished in fifth position,
:11:24. > :11:33.and Mario Mola has therefore won the world title by four points from
:11:34. > :11:38.Jonathan Brownlee. That fifth place for Mola and the second for Jonathan
:11:39. > :11:44.that we discussed a few moments ago, and the four points advantage has
:11:45. > :11:48.happened. The title has gone to Mola, Jonathan Brownlee has finished
:11:49. > :11:55.second in the standings. I'm absolutely speechless. I don't think
:11:56. > :12:00.we have ever seen anything like that in the history of this sport. There
:12:01. > :12:08.will be discussions with the referees out there, are you allowed
:12:09. > :12:13.to be assisted? Whether Jonathan Brownlee's place of second will
:12:14. > :12:19.stand at all is up for question. Alistair, that is an incredible end
:12:20. > :12:23.to any race, can you tell us any update on Jonathan 's condition? It
:12:24. > :12:29.will probably be all right, fortunately the medical care here is
:12:30. > :12:34.good, I think he has a drip in his arm and he is on oxygen. If mum and
:12:35. > :12:39.dad are watching, he is in very good care and he is all right. Is it the
:12:40. > :12:47.sort of thing only a brother can do? No, I would have done it for anyone.
:12:48. > :12:53.It happened to me in London. I think I would have done it to anyone. You
:12:54. > :12:57.were behind him at that point when he started to wobble, what did you
:12:58. > :13:03.see from your perspective? On that last turn from the finish I thought
:13:04. > :13:07.he wasn't looking too good, then I saw him start to slow. I have been
:13:08. > :13:11.in that position, and anyone in that position I would have helped across
:13:12. > :13:16.the line. Is that allowed in triathlon? I don't know and I don't
:13:17. > :13:20.care really, if it is not allowed they should listen to their own
:13:21. > :13:29.rules and change it. It was a high heat warning race today and if they
:13:30. > :13:35.won't stick to their rules I won't stick to mine either. We took a lot
:13:36. > :13:39.of the swim out, with Raphael, the French guides. We did what we wanted
:13:40. > :13:42.to do, we raced hard and I was feeling all right, thinking I'm
:13:43. > :13:49.going to come second or third, Jonathan will win that silver fine,
:13:50. > :13:55.but the last kilometre was terrible. It is not how we wanted to see that
:13:56. > :14:02.end but credit to you, it was a beautiful thing to watch. Thank you
:14:03. > :14:03.very much. Thank you, I would have much preferred he pasted right but
:14:04. > :14:12.never mind. What is going through your mind. It
:14:13. > :14:17.is not the way I wanted to win. The guys in front pushed the pace until
:14:18. > :14:20.the end. It was a very tough race, because of the conditions. It is
:14:21. > :14:25.something that we knew. But I tried to work and I tried to have that in
:14:26. > :14:30.mind. I'm sad that Jonny couldn't cross the line as he deserved, but
:14:31. > :14:37.it is racing and today I was the lucky winner. You were 90 seconds
:14:38. > :14:42.down going into the run. What was going through your mind? To be
:14:43. > :14:49.honest I didn't think it was possible. I tried to fight, as I
:14:50. > :14:53.always try to do. It wasn't' easy. My option was to be third, I thought
:14:54. > :15:00.they were going away. That was the only way for me. Jonny was winning.
:15:01. > :15:05.But triathlon races don't finish until you cross the line. Lucky for
:15:06. > :15:11.me today, I was able to be in the position that means that I am the
:15:12. > :15:17.next one with the World Championships. Good to finish on a
:15:18. > :15:22.big high. The Olympic bronze was great. I wanted to come and enjoy
:15:23. > :15:26.the race and it ended perfect. I'm gutted for Jonny. Alistair helping
:15:27. > :15:33.him out, I think they deserve one and two. But it is the over all
:15:34. > :15:39.athlete and I was able to win. Richard, there is some doubt about
:15:40. > :15:43.where you're going to finish? Yes, I'm a bit confused as to what
:15:44. > :15:47.happened. There were a couple of discrepancies that they're dealing
:15:48. > :15:50.with. But looking on to my performance, which was the most
:15:51. > :15:57.important thing for me, very pleased with where I ended up and in the
:15:58. > :16:02.series. My aim was to end as high as I could. Not a great day for Jonny
:16:03. > :16:07.Brownlee, when you see that happening, what do you feel? It is
:16:08. > :16:11.the sport, that is what happens in sport. I think the brown lease
:16:12. > :16:17.sometimes -- Brownlees struggling with the heat. But they're strong
:16:18. > :16:23.athletes and it shows you don't get Olympic mads for nothing. -- medals
:16:24. > :16:25.for nothing. Schoeman wins in Cozumel ahead of Jonny Brownlee and
:16:26. > :16:41.Alistair Brownlee. The find standings for 2016 see
:16:42. > :16:58.Mario Mola at the top. Four points clear of Jonny Brownlee.
:16:59. > :17:10.Fernando Alarza, third over all at the end of a long and at times
:17:11. > :17:17.gruelling world triathlon campaign. He has had a very consistent season.
:17:18. > :17:32.Third over all. At the end of 2016. Two Spaniards on the podium.
:17:33. > :17:39.Jonny Brownlee should be there to receive the trophy for second place
:17:40. > :17:42.over all. But he is still receiving medical attention. We believe he is
:17:43. > :17:58.in the local hospital. And we understand that he will be fine. But
:17:59. > :18:03.he is not here to accept his trophy. Jonathan receives a warm round of
:18:04. > :18:09.applause in his absence. So close to being champion of the world. But
:18:10. > :18:21.it's a silver in the over all standings this time. And at last,
:18:22. > :18:34.Mario Mola is the champion of the world. By just 4 points. What a
:18:35. > :18:42.dramatic conclusion to that race. He did enough just to take the gold
:18:43. > :18:57.medal and the world title for 2016. Mario Mola, from Palma in Majorca is
:18:58. > :19:00.the world No 1. Four years in a row Spanish triathletes have won the
:19:01. > :19:02.world title. Gomez for the last three. This year it is Mario Mola's
:19:03. > :20:45.turn. Richly deserved. Mario Mola is the champion of the
:20:46. > :20:56.world for 2016. A and it could not happen to a nicer man. So the party
:20:57. > :21:02.can begin. It is Richard Varga's stag night tonight I understand! And
:21:03. > :21:07.they're kicking it off right here on the world triathlon series podium.
:21:08. > :21:12.That is the end of world triathlon series. We will see you again for
:21:13. > :21:23.the start of 2017's campaign in Abu Dhabi in March. I think we have just
:21:24. > :21:28.all about caught our breath. What incredible scenes. First, important
:21:29. > :21:32.to say that Jonny Brownlee is OK. He was taken to hospital and tweeted
:21:33. > :21:35.from his hospital bed to say that he is all right. Of course a
:21:36. > :21:42.disappointing way to end his season and he thanked the loyalty of his
:21:43. > :21:46.brother, Alistair. Annie, wow! You were saying that those scenes left
:21:47. > :21:52.you almost speechless. Now that it is down and the dust has settled,
:21:53. > :21:57.what do you have to say? He will take a couple of days to recover.
:21:58. > :22:02.But so will we. We hadn't seen it coming. A few hundred metres before
:22:03. > :22:09.it went wrong, I thought the eyes are looking hollow, but he has a
:22:10. > :22:14.couple of minutes left. His body was on empty. Jonny tweeted it wasn't so
:22:15. > :22:20.much the heat, he was throwing water all over himself, but the fact he
:22:21. > :22:24.didn't consume enough. So Jonny... It is so difficult for him, because
:22:25. > :22:32.he had to win that race and he had to get ahead of Mario Mola. Did he
:22:33. > :22:35.have to run that race like he did? You mentioned it there, so close to
:22:36. > :22:41.finish line could he have slowed down? Yes deeply frustrating for
:22:42. > :22:47.everyone. And more obviously for Jonny. I thought perhaps if he had
:22:48. > :22:50.stopped back with Schoeman and Alistair and not blasted off the
:22:51. > :22:55.front, would he have given himself a better chance? We will never know. I
:22:56. > :23:01.think Alistair sort of criticised him in a loving sort of way! At the
:23:02. > :23:05.end of race. Could he have done things differently? I think so. What
:23:06. > :23:11.was going through his mind is I have never had a sprint finish with
:23:12. > :23:15.Schoeman and every point counts. Just four points separated them. I
:23:16. > :23:21.think in his head he thought he was doing the right thing. We have to
:23:22. > :23:25.mention Henri Schoeman and the fist world Serce yirs victory for --
:23:26. > :23:34.series victory for him. Alistair Brownlee has moved himself to more
:23:35. > :23:42.hero-like status. What was going through your mind and the sibling
:23:43. > :23:45.brotherhood going to greater heights. Well, he mouthed something
:23:46. > :23:50.like, what are you doing. I think he was shocked. I don't think he
:23:51. > :23:55.anticipated that. But incredible scenes in sport. Unlike any we have
:23:56. > :24:01.seen. I think his reaction was very instinctive. He said he would have
:24:02. > :24:06.done to it anybody. Having been there himself in 2010 in Hyde Park
:24:07. > :24:12.and when he was chatting he said I came across the line and thought I
:24:13. > :24:16.had finished second. And he thought how did eight people overtake me.
:24:17. > :24:20.But for Jonny it was only a few weeks ago that the same thing
:24:21. > :24:27.happened. He has not learned from that by the looks of things. It was
:24:28. > :24:33.quite contentious s it was a great story, I was only talking about this
:24:34. > :24:37.yesterday, it could have been a soap opera, but there might have been a
:24:38. > :24:44.disqualification. In the end it wasn't and it was within the rules.
:24:45. > :24:51.We were confused, because there is a big rule that no outside assistance
:24:52. > :24:55.is allowed. But because the martial and Alistair Brownlee were in the
:24:56. > :25:01.race helping Jonny, it was OK and hence he didn't get disqualified.
:25:02. > :25:05.The result stood. But it wasn't enough for Jonny Brownlee and Mario
:25:06. > :25:10.Mola finally after years of trying went in from the podium to top of
:25:11. > :25:14.the podium. And not the way he would have wanted to win it. But so much
:25:15. > :25:20.consistency and an incredible year for him. Deserves to be the
:25:21. > :25:27.champion? Yes we got caught out on that one. We thought it was Jonny's
:25:28. > :25:31.and Mola was brilliant in his interview, very generous to the
:25:32. > :25:36.Brownlees and making clear he hadn't wanted to win the title like that.
:25:37. > :25:39.But he had won four world series events this year. More than anyone
:25:40. > :25:44.else. I guess you could say the victory went to him. He played a
:25:45. > :25:50.sensible race and didn't have a choice what he could do on the bike,
:25:51. > :25:55.but he paced his run. And you know you make your own race and decide
:25:56. > :26:02.how you race needs to be ran. And the world title stays in Spain and
:26:03. > :26:09.takes ore from Javier Gomez. The last time we didn't have a Spaniard
:26:10. > :26:13.on the dop of podium was in 2012 with Jonny Brownlee and
:26:14. > :26:18.unfortunately for the Brits it will stay that way. It is Mario Mola and
:26:19. > :26:23.well deserved. Three times on the podium before and this year he has
:26:24. > :26:29.made the top. Let's talk about the British athletes. Despite the
:26:30. > :26:35.disappointing finish, what a memorable year. . Three Olympic
:26:36. > :26:43.medals and four Paralympic medals it has been one to remember and so many
:26:44. > :26:47.positives. Yes, what is impressive, we have come from this little island
:26:48. > :26:52.and produced some incredible athletes in a climate that is not
:26:53. > :26:59.necessarily ideal. We have seen success after success. That has been
:27:00. > :27:04.tremendous for the sport. I don't think we have seen a more dramatic
:27:05. > :27:09.end to a triathlon season. It didn't quite work out for Jonny Brownlee.
:27:10. > :27:15.Congratulations to Mario Mola, who is the world champion for 2016.
:27:16. > :27:16.Thank you very much for watching. 2017 cannot come quickly enough. We
:27:17. > :27:50.will see you very soon. One of the biggest performances of
:27:51. > :27:56.her career. Mario Mola has announced himself here as a genuine contender
:27:57. > :28:08.for the world title. Jenkins takes the victory. The first race of 2016
:28:09. > :28:17.brings victory to Non Stanford. Absolutely amazing. Alistair
:28:18. > :28:26.Brownlee wins in Leeds. Duffy has the win in Stockholm. Mario Mola can
:28:27. > :28:30.cruise to victory. It will be a glorious golden double for Alistair
:28:31. > :28:44.Brownlee. He is enjoying every moment of this now.
:28:45. > :28:49.Dramatic scenes in Cozumel. Mario Mola is the world No 1.
