:00:45. > :00:56.Welcome to highlights of round six of the 2017 ITU World Triathlon

:00:57. > :01:01.Series which comes from the capital of Canada's Alberta province,

:01:02. > :01:04.Edmonton. It promises to be another instalment of sprint racing at the

:01:05. > :01:08.best. Before we get to the action lets have a recap of what happened

:01:09. > :01:19.in the previous five events in the season so far. Abu Dhabi and Gold

:01:20. > :01:23.Coast hosted the first two. Flora Duffy one in Yokohama and then in

:01:24. > :01:33.Leeds, where Alistair Brownlee made a successful return. It is Edmonton

:01:34. > :01:37.next, on a course which has drawn up a fair few surprises in recent

:01:38. > :01:43.years. Montreal is a new event taking place next weekend. It will

:01:44. > :01:54.challenge even the most highly skilled athletes. Then there is more

:01:55. > :01:58.familiar territory. Stockholm. We end with the grand final in the

:01:59. > :02:06.Dutch city of Rotterdam. Looking at the men's rankings, Mario Mola has

:02:07. > :02:13.enhanced his chance of defending his world title but the race is still

:02:14. > :02:17.wide open. He leads the standings. Tom Bishop is the top British

:02:18. > :02:26.triathlete. He is not here this weekend. Jonathan Brownlee is in

:02:27. > :02:33.Edmonton and has a chance to claim the rankings. We've been looking at

:02:34. > :02:37.who will be pushing for the podium. Mario Mola was unstoppable in

:02:38. > :02:44.Hamburg. The fact that he had time to high-5 the crowd is evidence of

:02:45. > :02:55.how dominant years. He has won his last three races. Will it become

:02:56. > :03:01.four? Fernando Alarza is a fierce competitor with give up attitude --

:03:02. > :03:08.never give up attitude. Javier Gomez missed most of last season through

:03:09. > :03:13.injury but a stunning victory in Abu Dhabi silenced those who thought his

:03:14. > :03:20.desire was waning. He may not have won a sprint distance race but even

:03:21. > :03:28.at 34 you would not rule him out of contention here. Australia are

:03:29. > :03:37.enjoying a resurgence with Jacob Birtwhistle leading the charge. In

:03:38. > :03:44.Hamburg he found an extra gear to move up and finish on the podium for

:03:45. > :03:48.only the second time of his career. Jonny Brownlee missed hamburger

:03:49. > :03:52.because of low magnesium levels being detected by doctors after he

:03:53. > :03:58.felt unwell. It has been a frustrating year but he won last

:03:59. > :04:08.year so he knows the course well. You would not bet against him. Here

:04:09. > :04:19.we are, that is the loop, 750 metres around the island and then back.

:04:20. > :04:25.They are kept within the park. Some smart residents in the parkland get

:04:26. > :04:42.to witness the athletes going past six times on their bikes. 21 K bike

:04:43. > :04:44.and a five K run. Sprint testing here. Let's take a look at the

:04:45. > :05:04.start, all the Spanish flag is. Have you Gomez has been a winner, he

:05:05. > :05:07.won the opener in Abu Dhabi. The British interest will come from

:05:08. > :05:18.Jonny Brownlee. He's had a break, he's fully recovered, he starts with

:05:19. > :05:28.number 12. The third member of the trio is Grant Sheldon. 50 elite

:05:29. > :05:32.triathletes lined up and ready to race in round six of the triathlon

:05:33. > :06:02.series. I they go. Fast and furious start. We expect

:06:03. > :06:17.the pace to come from Richard Varga, the Slovakian. It is a 21 K bike and

:06:18. > :06:25.a five K run. The pace is bang on. It's a sprint distance. They stand

:06:26. > :06:35.on the pontoon, we saw Gomez down one end and then the athletes on the

:06:36. > :06:55.other. The early leader is Richard Varga as we anticipated.

:06:56. > :06:58.Matthew Hauser was start of the Australian group that took the

:06:59. > :07:26.relay. Moved back home to Slovakia since

:07:27. > :07:33.he's married. He is someone that Jonny Brownlee will rely on to set

:07:34. > :07:35.the pace in this swim. He will hope to be close to Richard Varga when

:07:36. > :08:23.they come out of the water. That is Aaron Royle. He's one of

:08:24. > :08:37.those athletes that blows hot and cold. He looks to be the athlete on

:08:38. > :08:45.the feet of Richard Varga. We have one of the Russian athletes, Dmitry

:08:46. > :08:51.Polyanskiy. Those are the top three at the moment. We've had a different

:08:52. > :08:58.swim leader in every race so far this season. We'll be the 30th time

:08:59. > :09:31.Richard Varga has led coming out of stage one.

:09:32. > :09:50.We will get a full check on the standings.

:09:51. > :10:06.Had probably his best race of the season. There are more athletes

:10:07. > :10:08.without swim caps. Some have had to make the whole journey without

:10:09. > :10:19.goggles. It can be We thought about eight and a half

:10:20. > :10:40.minutes. They are out of the water. Another

:10:41. > :11:23.Frenchman, Raphael Montoya. They are heading towards T1. They

:11:24. > :11:31.are led by the swim specialist. Jonny Brownlee at his bike, bike

:11:32. > :11:39.helmet on. Pushing towards the mount up line.

:11:40. > :11:55.Mario Mola has just arrived. He's off the pace. He's going to have to

:11:56. > :12:07.work hard to close the gap. They are pretty well spread. This is the

:12:08. > :12:21.second group out of transition. There is a leading group of about

:12:22. > :12:35.15. Jonny Brownlee with the black helmet. Heading up to lead the race.

:12:36. > :12:40.Sometimes you get this train effect athletes are able to get on and join

:12:41. > :12:47.up with the front pack. Let's see what they can do. We know there is a

:12:48. > :12:50.tough claim that comes very quickly and that will be the opportunity for

:12:51. > :13:01.some of these athletes to break away and stay away. Jonny Brownlee taking

:13:02. > :13:14.his turn at the front. Vincent Luis is behind him. Things have gone very

:13:15. > :13:26.much according to plan for the younger of the Brownlee Brothers.

:13:27. > :13:37.Grant Sheldon, the third of the British triathlete to emerge from

:13:38. > :13:44.the order. We our alongside the leaders who are making this climb.

:13:45. > :13:49.Here's the nasty right-hander which takes them into the residential

:13:50. > :14:03.areas of the parkland of Edmonton. It is Jonny Brownlee who leads them

:14:04. > :14:09.up. A group of ten at the front. The next group is led by one of the

:14:10. > :14:20.Canadians. They are some way off the pace.

:14:21. > :14:45.This is the chase group. Mario Mola, the winner of the most recent race.

:14:46. > :15:06.The Spaniards know that they are in trouble when they turn up to play.

:15:07. > :15:13.This is the group of nine front. Five laps to go and we are going to

:15:14. > :15:24.check on the difference. It is 16 seconds at the end of lap one.

:15:25. > :15:29.It is a big group, the chase pack and they will need to communicate

:15:30. > :15:45.really well. 16 seconds between the lead group

:15:46. > :15:50.and the chase group at the end of lap one. Promising numbers for the

:15:51. > :15:59.group currently led by Jonathan Brownleee. There he is - familiar

:16:00. > :16:08.position out front. Words exchanged to Aaron Royle n

:16:09. > :16:12.second position. It is great to see Brownlee marshalling the troops.

:16:13. > :16:16.Someone has to lead. It is important that you get someone up the front

:16:17. > :16:20.getting all the athletes to work. You don't want anyone sitting in not

:16:21. > :16:28.doing anything. Ben Kanute, from the United States, at the front at the

:16:29. > :16:32.moment. Aaron Royle, third place. Great to see Brownlee and Royle

:16:33. > :16:40.together. You know your style of racing. Aaron Royle now on the race

:16:41. > :16:45.of Jonathan Brownlee. Knows how important it is to gain time here.

:16:46. > :16:58.Raphael Montoya, in that group as well. The Frenchman. The

:16:59. > :17:12.The 21-year-old. Gomes is pushing the pace. They got that lead pack in

:17:13. > :17:15.their sights. That is sometimes big motivation to work harder to see if

:17:16. > :17:19.you can get back on. That is the difference now. It is no longer 16

:17:20. > :17:30.seconds. It is closer to about 10 seconds.

:17:31. > :17:39.They are trying to close down the leaders. Let's see if there's a

:17:40. > :17:46.reaction from Jonathan Brownlee here at the front. He will know that the

:17:47. > :17:50.Gomes group is leading fast. It looks like there's a little bit of

:17:51. > :17:59.activity at the front here. Ben Kanute, at the back. Johnnie

:18:00. > :18:06.Brownlee at the front. Working hard to keep the group at bay. Having a

:18:07. > :18:14.chat there with the American athlete. There's no time to chat to

:18:15. > :18:25.someone. You cannot risk losing any time. I think it is here on this

:18:26. > :18:31.decent here where the chase pack will make some inroads. Between

:18:32. > :18:39.Kanute and Gomes at the front, it is now just five seconds.

:18:40. > :18:50.This has been a monumental effort from Gomes to lead the chase group

:18:51. > :18:59.Varga getting over his bike, looking for extra speed.

:19:00. > :19:04.I always think that looks a bit dangerous, doesn't it? And very

:19:05. > :19:08.uncomfortable. Varga, well it has worked for him, he's opened up a

:19:09. > :19:11.little bit of a lead. I wonder if the others may follow suit when they

:19:12. > :19:15.come on that downward part of the course. Approaching the end of lap

:19:16. > :19:20.two. They had a lead of 16 seconds at the end of the first lap. That

:19:21. > :19:24.has all but gone now. Well, I think it is disappointing

:19:25. > :19:27.for that little pack that seemed to have broken away. They seemed to

:19:28. > :19:33.have a good group on a course like this. When you have the big, wide

:19:34. > :19:41.open roads, a big pack will travel a bit harder. And that chase pack now

:19:42. > :19:46.in the front group, Richard Murray as well. Let's not forget

:19:47. > :19:52.Blummenfelt, from Norway, a phenomenal rider.

:19:53. > :20:14.So they are approaching the end of lap two. It is all change. This

:20:15. > :20:22.group is one of 30. Brownlee in with Gomez and all his old rivals dwen. S

:20:23. > :20:27.again. This break away from Kanute will not

:20:28. > :20:33.be for too long, I don't think. Benson is in that pack as well.

:20:34. > :20:38.Grant Sheldon has made it into that group as well. All three British

:20:39. > :20:50.triathletes are in and around the front group, which is enormous.

:20:51. > :21:00.Looking ahead to stage three, 5km. With Noya, the world leader, with

:21:01. > :21:06.Brownlee, with Javier Gonez, with Richard Murray, who has won World

:21:07. > :21:09.Triathlon series races in the past. They come when he wears number four.

:21:10. > :21:13.He's wearing number four again today. Others who will fancy their

:21:14. > :21:17.chances. Vincent Luis, have not seen the best

:21:18. > :21:24.of him so far this season. Maybe we will today.

:21:25. > :21:28.Fernando Alarza, who until the last race, was the holder of the world

:21:29. > :21:33.leader's trophy. He could have a bearing on the outcome of today's

:21:34. > :21:36.race. This is shaping up to be a ding-dong battle, as they head into

:21:37. > :22:03.the #kkm run. This will come down to the accuracy,

:22:04. > :22:07.in and out of transition when they leave their bikes behind. They put

:22:08. > :22:11.on their running shoes and of course the early stages of the run, with so

:22:12. > :22:20.many good five kilometre runners in there. This one is wide open today.

:22:21. > :22:26.It may have just taken the edge off of the racing of the bike stage, but

:22:27. > :22:30.I think it makes for a fine battle, forth coming in the four kilometre

:22:31. > :22:35.run a little later. There is always the discussion where best to place

:22:36. > :22:38.yourself in a big group like this. I think it's important to be out of

:22:39. > :22:43.trouble and somewhere near the front. At the same time, you do get

:22:44. > :22:53.to see some of the athletes sitting in behind and not having to do too

:22:54. > :22:58.much work as they get pulled along by the train effect. You have to

:22:59. > :23:04.think where you are positioning yourself on the bike into T 2.

:23:05. > :23:17.Five Ks left on two wheels. Absolutely wide open here.

:23:18. > :23:22.They are all in contention. The end of the last lap will be interesting.

:23:23. > :23:26.You want to be first into transition, to avoid the traffic and

:23:27. > :23:32.the potential pile ups that can occur. And then you have potentially

:23:33. > :23:37.34 athletes who want to be at the front coming off their bikes, so you

:23:38. > :23:49.have to play it very sensibly, but very safely, too.

:23:50. > :23:53.Gomez with his old rival Jonathan Brownlee behind him. Silver and

:23:54. > :23:58.bronze-medallists in the London Olympics in Hyde Park in 2012.

:23:59. > :24:03.Alistair was the champion. Johnnie improved by one moving up to

:24:04. > :24:06.silver. Gomez was unable to compete because of his broken tharm he

:24:07. > :24:12.picked newspaper a training accident. Richard Varga, the swim

:24:13. > :24:14.specialist is with them as well. Could Varga potentially break the

:24:15. > :24:19.top ten here today? It is a possibility. Has done in the past,

:24:20. > :24:23.Richard Varga, in World Triathlon events. Might do it again today.

:24:24. > :24:29.There are some strong runners in there. We have not spoken much about

:24:30. > :24:33.Richard Murray and what he's capable of over five kilometres. He's been

:24:34. > :24:40.relatively quiet this year, hasn't he, Murray? He's been playing it low

:24:41. > :24:45.key. Had a good result in Abu Dhabi he he finished tenth. Disappointing

:24:46. > :24:48.in Leeds. Seventh in Hamburg. It will be interesting to see how

:24:49. > :24:53.Murray's fitness has progressed in the last couple of weeks. Not a lot

:24:54. > :24:57.an athlete can do in two weeks. They would have had to travel over to

:24:58. > :25:04.Canada from Europe. They take the bell. They are on

:25:05. > :25:10.their final lap. Around the streets of the Pawrelak

:25:11. > :25:16.Park and the Emily Murphy Park, here in Edmonton - the capital city of

:25:17. > :25:21.Alberta, in Canada. We have a serious triathlon shaping up here,

:25:22. > :25:27.with some of the main contenders in the Olympic distance racing circuit.

:25:28. > :25:30.The only one who is missing. The only serious notable missing is

:25:31. > :25:33.Alistair Brownlee, the Olympic champion, but his younger brother is

:25:34. > :25:40.there, in the front, taking a drink now. He's got plenty of his old

:25:41. > :25:44.rivals, including Mola and Gomez. The South African Murray and a

:25:45. > :25:52.variety of Frenchmen to keep the interest up, as they cruise through

:25:53. > :26:01.their final sir -- circuit in the park. Three laps of 1.66 kilometres

:26:02. > :26:10.to conclude today's sprint distance event.

:26:11. > :26:19.Well, Alistair Brownlee is missing, but also Henry Scuman. There are

:26:20. > :26:22.around about 50 metres now. I think once they have realised he's off the

:26:23. > :26:40.front, they'll be chasing him down. A brave move from Russell White. He

:26:41. > :26:44.thinks he needs to arrive early in transition to get a head start on

:26:45. > :26:46.the rest of them. Some are struggling to match the pace at the

:26:47. > :27:01.back of the field. One of the Americans having a

:27:02. > :27:06.laboured time there. They'll make this hairpin right-hander on the

:27:07. > :27:13.hill for the final time. It will be up and then down, back sweeping down

:27:14. > :27:20.on the Edinburgh Road and back to transition. T 2, where they will

:27:21. > :27:25.leave the bikes. Just under two kilometres left to ride.

:27:26. > :27:37.We have to keep our fingers crossed for Jonathan Brownlee. It was a

:27:38. > :27:42.around about this stage in in Yokohama that he was brought off his

:27:43. > :27:45.bike. It is interesting how you see the experienced athletes, they know

:27:46. > :27:49.where they need to be at this stage on the bike. They somehow manage to

:27:50. > :27:50.get themselves there, even though there are 34 other athletes around

:27:51. > :28:15.them. It is Mola on the front. Brownlee

:28:16. > :28:22.tucked behind. Then grom grom and a couple of the Australian athletes --

:28:23. > :28:34.then Gomez and a couple of Australian athletes.

:28:35. > :28:46.Almost 65 kilometres per hours. 75 kilometres per hour at the highest

:28:47. > :28:53.speed on the course. Now the scramble begins. Varga, once again,

:28:54. > :28:59.he's done that before. The second time leading them on the down-hill

:29:00. > :29:04.stretch. The Irishman Russell White moves on once again. Now, the

:29:05. > :29:08.jostling for position begins. Grant Sheldon and Gordon Benson are

:29:09. > :29:14.looking for a way through, trying to weave their way through the pack and

:29:15. > :29:19.arrive at the dismount line near the front, to avoid the traffic to have

:29:20. > :29:22.a clear run to their places in transition. And then it's all about

:29:23. > :29:28.timing. They need to be quick on the way in,

:29:29. > :29:35.fast on the way out, neat and tidy in transition is what they're all

:29:36. > :29:40.looking for. Here we go... Jonathan Brownlee is

:29:41. > :29:45.off his bike and away. Tough for the marshals to keep an eye on all this,

:29:46. > :30:14.to make sure everything was legal on the dismount line.

:30:15. > :30:23.Nobody got left behind. Jonny Brownlee got left at the front.

:30:24. > :30:35.Excellent transition. In pole position here. He strikes the front.

:30:36. > :30:46.Richard Murray, Vincent Luis, Mario Mola are all in contention. You can

:30:47. > :31:00.see Gomez in between Vincent Luis and Jonny Brownlee. What a line-up.

:31:01. > :31:09.This could be a cracking finish. This first kilometre is uphill for

:31:10. > :31:27.the first 800 metres. Could that be good for a Jonathan Brownlee? Gomez

:31:28. > :31:32.just deciding to go up front. Mario Mola's time is 40 minutes and one

:31:33. > :31:39.second. That is what we are looking for. That's the sort of level we are

:31:40. > :31:56.looking for. The interesting statistic is when

:31:57. > :32:00.Mario Mola has been off the lead within two seconds coming into T2

:32:01. > :32:03.he's never been beaten. He was certainly within three seconds

:32:04. > :32:23.coming out of transition. Richard Murray, talented runner from

:32:24. > :32:29.South Africa, Mario Mola, world-beater from Spain. To control

:32:30. > :32:38.of the overall rankings following his victory in Hamburg. He won the

:32:39. > :32:50.Gold Coast sprint. He's enjoying a stellar season. He is forcing a

:32:51. > :33:01.strong pace. What more could you want than this? The Canadians are

:33:02. > :33:09.hoping to get decent positions to give the spectators something to get

:33:10. > :33:13.excited about. Richard Murray and Mario Mola are going to work at the

:33:14. > :33:31.front of the field. Great to see them here. Need to keep

:33:32. > :33:35.himself cool. We know that sometimes he does not work that well in the

:33:36. > :33:41.heat and needs to get some water on board. Only 3.8 kilometres to go.

:33:42. > :33:54.They are breaking away. Grant Sheldon from Great Britain. Finished

:33:55. > :34:24.fourth last year. He's obviously liking racing.

:34:25. > :34:37.Battle of the giants of the sport. Interesting to see Richard Murray up

:34:38. > :34:38.your earlier on. Please it pretty conservatively. He cannot afford to

:34:39. > :35:37.do it today. Back to full Olympic distance. Have

:35:38. > :35:53.you Gomez moves into position. He decides he wants to have a go.

:35:54. > :36:05.This has been matched by Brownlee and Mario Mola. He's got to learn to

:36:06. > :36:19.drink some and not just pour it over his head.

:36:20. > :36:28.He's hurting as much as the other will athletes but is saying, I'm not

:36:29. > :36:36.going to sit back, I'm going to try and unnerve them. I don't know

:36:37. > :36:44.whether it's the pace or the bike but behind them there are other

:36:45. > :36:52.great athletes. You can see them coming through behind. Jacob

:36:53. > :37:01.Birtwhistle has not given up either. Mario Mola takes it up. Mario Mola

:37:02. > :37:37.thinks it is time to do some damage. Grant Sheldon is down in seventh.

:37:38. > :37:50.Montoya is six. Mario Mola is starting to enjoy his running. He's

:37:51. > :38:01.going backwards, there's a gap of a couple of seconds.

:38:02. > :38:09.Jacob Birtwhistle does not look comfortable. Mario Mola has gone, he

:38:10. > :38:15.has gone away at the front of the field. This could be decisive. Here

:38:16. > :38:19.comes Jacob Birtwhistle. He wants to be second behind him in Edmonton.

:38:20. > :38:23.That's a monumental effort from Jacob Birtwhistle and he might even

:38:24. > :38:30.catch Mario Mola. He's closing the gap all time. Mario Mola will see

:38:31. > :38:39.him now. He's gone past in! That is brilliant from Jacob Birtwhistle. He

:38:40. > :38:42.is leading. What a race from the Australian. He's come from the

:38:43. > :39:01.clothes to read. Does he still realise that there is

:39:02. > :39:08.two kilometres? It's amazing. He looks fantastic. Has he gone too

:39:09. > :39:21.early? Jacob Birtwhistle is leading. Brown

:39:22. > :39:27.is down to four. Out of the podium at this stage. Still more than a

:39:28. > :39:37.mile. It is a significant lead to the Jacob Birtwhistle has got. Has

:39:38. > :39:54.he gone too early or is he on his way to win? He went the wrong way!

:39:55. > :40:07.An error of judgment and Mario Mola caught up a little bit.

:40:08. > :40:12.The signposts are quite confusing there and I can see why he's done

:40:13. > :40:18.it. Mario Mola is not giving up though I imagine he cannot quite

:40:19. > :40:21.believe what is happening. Nobody expected Jacob Birtwhistle to come

:40:22. > :40:35.through the field like he has. He's running away again. I'm not sure

:40:36. > :40:48.Mario Mola will get back on. I wonder if Jacob Birtwhistle might

:40:49. > :40:56.have misjudged it. Perhaps that's why he went up the carpet. He'd been

:40:57. > :40:58.round that route before. I think he got that wrong. I think he messed

:40:59. > :41:19.up. I think he will be caught. Suddenly he realised he's got it

:41:20. > :41:23.wrong. He makes pay the price for that error of judgment as Mario Mola

:41:24. > :41:35.surges alongside him and takes first.

:41:36. > :41:55.I'm not sure that the way he went, it looked like he was in the final

:41:56. > :42:02.400 metres. You said at the time. The way that he's blowing now, if

:42:03. > :42:07.Jonny Brownlee keeps going he has a chance. Jacob Birtwhistle is hurting

:42:08. > :42:13.and I would not be surprised if it was not that he thought that was it.

:42:14. > :42:26.But, well, he knows there is relapse.

:42:27. > :42:44.Brownlee could still take third with 900 metres to go. Mario Mola back in

:42:45. > :42:51.first position. Jacob Birtwhistle and Murray are shoulder to shoulder.

:42:52. > :43:05.It could be Mario Mola's win. He's never won it. 750 metres to go. He

:43:06. > :43:11.looks unstoppable now. Weaver confused about what was going on but

:43:12. > :43:23.now he looks very comfortable as he eases his way to the finish. The

:43:24. > :43:33.fight is on. You feel very sorry for Jacob Birtwhistle. If he hangs on

:43:34. > :43:36.for second, he will need to get involved in another sprint and he's

:43:37. > :43:48.already had one of those. That would be extraordinary. He is not closing

:43:49. > :43:53.the gap any time soon. Birtwistle seems to have found a hidden gear.

:43:54. > :44:00.He's got more to give which is absolutely incredible. Coming down

:44:01. > :44:14.that hill he's got his heart rate down. His legs will be burning. He

:44:15. > :44:25.will galvanise his lead at the top of the world triathlon series

:44:26. > :44:33.rankings. This will be his third sprint distance when following the

:44:34. > :44:42.Gold Coast. He's never won in Edmonton before. He is showing the

:44:43. > :44:48.way with a sensational performance. Potentially on the way to another

:44:49. > :44:53.world title. Wins in Edmonton. 54 minutes and 52 seconds. What a

:44:54. > :45:04.performance despite his misjudgements. Takes his place on

:45:05. > :45:07.the podium finishing in third whilst Jonny Brownlee comes home with a

:45:08. > :45:22.creditable fourth position. I did the best I could. I am happy I

:45:23. > :45:28.had another swim. I am pleased only with the swim. I know it was a

:45:29. > :45:33.challenging course. Worked hard the first couple of laps. Then it was a

:45:34. > :45:42.finish. I saw Jake in the second lap. Lucky to get back to him and

:45:43. > :45:49.then feel I get the final kick. Jacob, it is fair to say that your

:45:50. > :45:52.running is better than your maths? I guess that's pretty obvious now. I

:45:53. > :45:57.guess I was not sure. I got to the front too easy. I thought, no, I

:45:58. > :46:02.started to really doubt myself and I had to hurtle over that barrier and

:46:03. > :46:05.suffer around for another lap. Thankfully the damage wasn't too

:46:06. > :46:15.much and I was able to finish off OK. Is it a two-lap run? I saw him

:46:16. > :46:26.go... I thought, wow, he's gone too early. If he could keep that up he

:46:27. > :46:30.would rival Bolt or Farah. I am sure it didn't look that good, I had to

:46:31. > :46:35.resurrect something. Mola is the champion in Edmonton.

:46:36. > :46:40.With Jacob Birtwhistle in second for Australia. Murray, third. Jonathan

:46:41. > :46:43.Brownlee just off the podium, in fourth.

:46:44. > :46:52.Grant Sheldon finished in tenth position for Great Britain.

:46:53. > :46:55.Mola strengthens his lead. The best of the British is still Bishop in

:46:56. > :47:02.seventh. Jonathan Brownlee has moved up to

:47:03. > :47:12.10th. London... Are you ready? Mo Farah wins the gold! It is a

:47:13. > :47:24.mammoth job! Going to win the world title... It is going to be... She's

:47:25. > :47:28.smashed the winner's record. Bolt... I'm ready!

:47:29. > :47:37.We have all that to come for you in August. But time now to turn our

:47:38. > :47:42.attention to the women's event. Britain's Standard is not competing

:47:43. > :47:53.here. She gave us the low down on where the race might be won or lost.

:47:54. > :47:57.The favourite has to be Flora again. You could have the American girls

:47:58. > :48:03.who are going well at the moment. A few other American girls is going,

:48:04. > :48:07.and Knibb, they often surprise you over the smaller distances.

:48:08. > :48:11.Hewitt isn't going to be there. She's obviously the main contender

:48:12. > :48:16.for Flora and the World Championship title. I cannot see anyone

:48:17. > :48:22.overtaking Flora. I think the battle will be for second and third. It

:48:23. > :48:28.will be between Kasper, Zaferes: Tell us about the race itself, the

:48:29. > :48:33.course? The course is relatively uninteresting. The bike is not

:48:34. > :48:39.technical. It is wide open, it will play to the advantage of other

:48:40. > :48:44.girls. Usually Flora thrives on hard technical courses. It will allow

:48:45. > :48:49.them to stay with her more. The lap is three runs, fairly uneventful. I

:48:50. > :48:52.think that will actually work against Flora for once. Edmonton is

:48:53. > :48:56.a race where you can see surprises. Do you think the change in the time

:48:57. > :49:02.of the year might make a difference? Definitely. In the past the race is

:49:03. > :49:06.September. It has often been awful weather. It will be hotter. So you

:49:07. > :49:09.don't have to contend with the bad weather conditions, which will

:49:10. > :49:14.change the race. In the past few years we've had some surprise

:49:15. > :49:22.podiums. Bringing it forward, getting stable weather conditions

:49:23. > :49:30.will bring up predictable results. Play into Flora's hands? Quite

:49:31. > :49:35.possibly. Flora will be the favourite.

:49:36. > :49:39.Zaferes leads the way, ahead of Gentle, Kasper, with Flora Duffy,

:49:40. > :49:43.the world champion in fourth. There are no British triathletes

:49:44. > :49:56.racing in Edmonton. So Katie Zaferes wears number one.

:49:57. > :50:02.She'll have the golden number one on her upper arm.

:50:03. > :50:07.Kasper, fellow American, with two. Defending world champion, Flora

:50:08. > :50:11.Duffy, on a royal run of form, with victories in Yokohama, Leeds and

:50:12. > :50:17.Hamburg, has three. Gillian Backhouse, the top-ranked

:50:18. > :50:20.Australian in the field, with four. Yuko Takahashi is number six. No

:50:21. > :50:28.British interest in today's race at all for the women.

:50:29. > :50:35.Round six of the 2017 World Triathlon series, in Pawrelak Park,

:50:36. > :50:39.in Edmonton, Canada. -- in Hawrelak Park, in Edmonton,

:50:40. > :50:45.Canada. Beautiful conditions. The ducks are flapping and flying for

:50:46. > :50:51.cover, as the 33 triathletes set out on stage one, this one lap,

:50:52. > :51:00.750-metre swim. It is a sprint distance today. 750-metre swim. A

:51:01. > :51:07.21-kilometre bike over six laps of 3.5 kilometres T conclusion, a five

:51:08. > :51:12.kilometre run. And away they go... Conditions absolutely perfect. The

:51:13. > :51:20.park, the city, bathed in glorious summer sunshine. Mid-20s Celsius.

:51:21. > :51:23.The water temperature nice and warm. A complete contrast to the

:51:24. > :51:28.conditions in which they raced a year ago. It was absolutely freezing

:51:29. > :51:33.last year. Edmonton is a fascinating place. One day you can have 26

:51:34. > :51:39.Celsius, like you do today and the next day it will k be virtually

:51:40. > :51:44.snowing. Lovely conditions for the athletes today and great for

:51:45. > :51:47.Edmonton, because it is an incredible city for triathlon. This

:51:48. > :51:50.is such a huge following there. It is a beautiful place to go and

:51:51. > :51:54.train. I have been there. Absolutely fantastic T just having a little

:51:55. > :51:57.look now at our early race leaders. It is Katie Zaferes there, on the

:51:58. > :52:05.left-hand side from the United States. I wouldn't be surprised to

:52:06. > :52:09.see Vanessa Lopes from Brazil, who led out in Hamburg. She was a

:52:10. > :52:12.surprise there and I think she has been a surprise to other athletes

:52:13. > :52:20.who are used to taking charge in the swim. She swam about 15-20 seconds

:52:21. > :52:27.faster than Flora Duffy in Hamburg. I wouldn't be surprised to see her

:52:28. > :52:33.doing very well. Vanessa Lopes, 21-year-old from Brazil and new on

:52:34. > :52:38.the series. With Katie Zaferes, world leader right on her shoulder.

:52:39. > :52:43.So Zaferes is taking advantage of the absolutely perfect mill pond

:52:44. > :52:46.water conditions here. Stand-up paddleboard is patrolling. All

:52:47. > :52:51.around they are not expecting any incidents. We had one of the

:52:52. > :52:55.triathletes hauled out of the water in Hamburg during the sprint there.

:52:56. > :52:59.It was a full field. But with a relatively small field

:53:00. > :53:05.and the athletes being already quite well spread. They should be able to

:53:06. > :53:12.keep clear of each other, as they make this first anticlockwise turn

:53:13. > :53:16.at the inflatable buoy. So, with 540 metres to swim, Lopes, of Brazil,

:53:17. > :53:28.the first around the corner and on her way.

:53:29. > :53:37.Lopes of Brazil. Now they are heading due north on their way to

:53:38. > :53:44.the final third of this swim. They are in the Hawrelak lake, named

:53:45. > :54:02.after Edmonton's longest serving mayor. Seeing a few gaps forming.

:54:03. > :54:21.300 #3450e9ers to Government we will not see anything too significant, I

:54:22. > :54:25.wouldn't say. So Taylor Knibb of the USA, early leaders.

:54:26. > :54:28.Katie Zaferes, who was near the front in the early stages has won

:54:29. > :54:38.over the sprint distance in the past. 57.03.

:54:39. > :54:45.Zaferes is leading the world standings with success over the

:54:46. > :54:50.sprint distance in the past. The pace is really being raised here by

:54:51. > :54:54.the swimmers at the front. So the athletes now with just under

:54:55. > :54:59.100 metres to swim, going around that red buoy there. There are some

:55:00. > :55:04.gaps forming here. There is a pack there out in front, with 15 athletes

:55:05. > :55:09.and then a little gap to the next pack. But a lot of Americans in

:55:10. > :55:12.here. As you mentioned there, Matt, they had three Americans on the

:55:13. > :55:20.podium here last year. I wonder if they can do that again. Amazing what

:55:21. > :55:27.the Americans are doing. Even without Gwen. She's away having

:55:28. > :55:34.her baby. I think she's due in the next couple of days. Summer Cook

:55:35. > :55:39.leading them through. She's first to emerge here in Edmonton. And starts

:55:40. > :55:48.to prepare for the arrival in transition. Victoria Lopes in hope

:55:49. > :55:51.pursuit. Duffy is not fair away. Stars and Stripes everywhere.

:55:52. > :56:08.Gillian Backhouse ahead of Palmer. All within 24 seconds. So Cook, bike

:56:09. > :56:13.helmet on. Didn't rush it.

:56:14. > :56:16.First in, first out. That's the key. You don't want to get stuck in

:56:17. > :56:21.transition. In fact, not first out, guess who stole a march on her

:56:22. > :56:26.there, none other than Flora Duffy, who's always one of the

:56:27. > :56:30.lightning-fast transition triathletes. And Duffy is away,

:56:31. > :56:35.leading them out on the road. She knows she can get this race won on

:56:36. > :56:38.her bike. And she is out attacking straightaway.

:56:39. > :56:43.When you look at her stomping down on the pedals there, you think, is

:56:44. > :56:48.anyone going to get on her wheel at all? She's got it to a fine art,

:56:49. > :57:00.these break aways. Normally happens later on.

:57:01. > :57:14.If Duffy tries to break, you've got to stay with her.

:57:15. > :57:17.And Zaferes and Kasper are still sort of negotiating themselves on to

:57:18. > :57:21.their bikes in a comfortable position. Shoes aren't quite on.

:57:22. > :57:27.Right foot of Zaferes isn't in that shoe yet. In fact Duffy's got the

:57:28. > :57:33.same issue. They will come together and work potentially as a leading

:57:34. > :57:37.pack of three here. Flora Duffy of Bermuda. Katie

:57:38. > :57:49.Zaferes, world standing's leader, also from the USA. And this group,

:57:50. > :57:52.which are quite well spread and Radford from South Africa. They will

:57:53. > :57:57.do their best to close these three down. They have already escaped.

:57:58. > :58:03.This is a really effective break away. Look at Duffy, out of the

:58:04. > :58:05.saddle and pushing hard. I think we've lost Zaferes, haven't

:58:06. > :58:14.we? Knibb was near the front on the

:58:15. > :58:18.swim. They are staying within the park this year. They don't leave the

:58:19. > :58:22.park and cross the bridge out on to the free way like they have in

:58:23. > :58:27.recent years. They are staying within the confines of the park. It

:58:28. > :58:31.is Duffy and Knibb. So they have sorted themselves out. And what

:58:32. > :58:35.happened to Kasper and Zaferes there? Well, they couldn't stay on

:58:36. > :58:39.her wheel, by the looks of things, which is incredible. Duffy has said

:58:40. > :58:45.that it is a tough bike course. If Duffy says it is tough, we know it

:58:46. > :58:49.is tough. It is a short, sharp hill and it has obviously taken its toil

:58:50. > :58:54.on Zaferes and Kasper. They have been blown out the back. Knibb, it

:58:55. > :58:59.is only her third start in the World Triathlon series. She went to Leeds,

:59:00. > :59:05.didn't finish there. She has won a sprint race - part of the American

:59:06. > :59:09.Cup race on 9th July. So Taylor Knibb coming into this race with

:59:10. > :59:13.form over the sprint distance. She is new to this level of racing and

:59:14. > :59:17.finds herself, right now, out in front with the current world

:59:18. > :59:20.champion, Duffy. If you are going to stay with her, you've got to have

:59:21. > :59:25.your best day on the bike, that's for sure. Expect these two to

:59:26. > :59:30.complete the bike course in around 31 minutes.

:59:31. > :59:39.Nine minutes or so for the swim. 31 for the bike and around 16 minutes

:59:40. > :59:42.for the run. 5 kilometre run after the 21-kilometre bike today. Six

:59:43. > :59:48.laps and they are about to complete the first of them. It is a pace that

:59:49. > :59:54.Taylor Knibb is pushing here. 15 hi35 second since the triathlon

:59:55. > :59:59.began and 15 second or so will be the gap, possibly more than that for

:00:00. > :00:03.the next group. First lap done. It is 18 second to Zaferes and Kasper,

:00:04. > :00:08.who are in a pair on their own. We have not seen them for a little

:00:09. > :00:12.while. They are 18 seconds down and then a further eight seconds to the

:00:13. > :00:45.Lopes group. They had a Leeds of eight seconds

:00:46. > :00:55.over the next group but it has been whittled down to a second and a

:00:56. > :01:02.half. They will merge to form the group that is chasing. On this

:01:03. > :01:07.course it is tricky for the cameramen. It is difficult to stay

:01:08. > :01:13.on top. You've not got big stretches of road is to ride up. It's a great

:01:14. > :01:23.course but it's a tough course. Six laps. Not the American we expected

:01:24. > :01:49.to see. July is the wettest month of the

:01:50. > :01:58.year. It can get really damp but this is gorgeous. Stunning weather

:01:59. > :02:03.and great action on the streets. Within the parks, the Emily Murphy

:02:04. > :02:09.Park and Hawrelack Park. Smart suburbs of Edmonton. The pace is

:02:10. > :02:18.being dominated by an American. Not an American we are used to seeing

:02:19. > :02:20.front. Taylor Knibb. She's alongside someone we're used to seeing at the

:02:21. > :02:48.front. My feeling is these two outfront,

:02:49. > :02:52.all they've got to do is work well. They've got to get some good

:02:53. > :02:57.rotation is going on the bike. They've got to stay away because at

:02:58. > :03:11.the moment, every lap, we will have a look and see where that chasing

:03:12. > :03:30.pack is. The chase group contains some big names.

:03:31. > :03:46.Back with the leaders. Scared of the rear wheel. She remains completely

:03:47. > :03:52.in control. Away she goes, with Taylor Knibb drafting in behind. She

:03:53. > :03:58.doesn't look comfortable on her bike. I've seen her take some large

:03:59. > :04:07.bends and make a meal of it. She was well up there. She's just managing

:04:08. > :04:16.to stay on the back of that chasing pack. It has been a minute since

:04:17. > :04:22.Taylor Knibb and Duffy made that turn. These guys are going

:04:23. > :04:28.backwards. The gap was 18. By the completion of lap to it was 40

:04:29. > :04:44.seconds. They are on a completely different part of the track.

:04:45. > :04:49.We will see what they have got because it is heading towards a

:04:50. > :05:04.minute by the time they get through the race. Ten kilometres to go. What

:05:05. > :05:09.an incredible athlete. She raised three times this year. She's not

:05:10. > :05:15.leading the standings but that's got a lot more to do with the other

:05:16. > :05:24.athletes. They have more points and they are ahead of her.

:05:25. > :05:37.The end of lap three. Taylor Knibb and Duffy in a world of their own.

:05:38. > :05:57.If she stays on her bike it is difficult to see how she loses this.

:05:58. > :06:02.I cannot imagine when she woke up this morning and started her prep

:06:03. > :06:11.that she thought she would be riding away and literally leaving the rest

:06:12. > :06:17.of the field. 40 seconds was the time last time they crossed the line

:06:18. > :06:19.and they are already approaching a minute. An extraordinary time

:06:20. > :06:36.difference achieved by the leading pair. One minute and one second.

:06:37. > :06:49.This has been a masterclass of control. She has taken returns. She

:06:50. > :07:01.will not let her there she's not taking returns. As we mentioned,

:07:02. > :07:08.Taylor Knibb is only raised on this circuit once. It will be stretched

:07:09. > :07:19.out quite a bit more by the time the athletes come background.

:07:20. > :08:01.Duffy looks like she will add to that. That is an outside

:08:02. > :08:12.possibility. With the gap widening all the time, I don't know. Is third

:08:13. > :08:18.the best they can hope for? I think so. She does run well. She's not

:08:19. > :08:42.going to be the fastest. They don't even seem to make the

:08:43. > :08:48.attempt. She's put fear into the other athletes are they think they

:08:49. > :08:52.cannot ride with her. When you get Taylor Knibb going with her, the

:08:53. > :08:53.lack of experience, I'm really surprised they could not go with

:08:54. > :09:06.her. I think that Summer Cook enjoyed the

:09:07. > :09:24.cooler conditions last year. Tougher day here. As we see the lead player

:09:25. > :09:25.coming round. The bell rings and the clock is ticking. Up to ten seconds

:09:26. > :09:51.already. Interesting what is going on. Taylor

:09:52. > :09:58.Knibb, when you put out the elbow. Interesting to see the young athlete

:09:59. > :10:02.saying, take your turn. She knows she's got plenty of time and doesn't

:10:03. > :10:12.have to work too hard or take any risks. With a minute and 20 heading

:10:13. > :10:23.to a minute and 30, she could stay well ahead. She's a pretty solid

:10:24. > :10:25.runner and we won't see anyone from this chase pack picking their way

:10:26. > :10:54.up. One minute and 23 seconds as the gap

:10:55. > :10:58.as they take the bell. They did not grow on that lap which suggests

:10:59. > :11:04.they've got their act together. Either that or Duffy has slowed

:11:05. > :11:20.down. She's broken away and does not want to come into T2.

:11:21. > :11:32.Duffy has taken it on. Such a dominant force on her bike. Pushing

:11:33. > :11:39.harder and harder. The chase group are off the pace. Out in front all

:11:40. > :11:43.on her own. Surely heading towards her fourth successive series is

:11:44. > :11:59.Flora Duffy from Bermuda. She's riding away because previously

:12:00. > :12:11.they hit one another on the corner. This is officially chase group two.

:12:12. > :12:18.Back with our leader with a kilometre left to run. Just

:12:19. > :12:22.wondering what is going on in Duffy's head, she must be thinking,

:12:23. > :12:28.surely they will make it harder for me than this? She's working hard but

:12:29. > :12:33.she's not really hammering it. She has kept it together and kept

:12:34. > :12:37.herself safe and out of trouble. She's done the job. She's going to

:12:38. > :12:51.come out and worked on onto the run with one minute 30 seconds.

:12:52. > :13:01.Barring any disasters that is her race. I am really looking forward to

:13:02. > :13:10.her having the company of the ultra-elite athletes later on. The

:13:11. > :13:19.sport needs the return of the very best. I am looking forward to that

:13:20. > :13:36.as well. It is a lot to do with the athletes. They are not putting

:13:37. > :13:38.themselves into that place. Absolutely clean as you like to the

:13:39. > :13:57.dismount line. No stress at all. Duffy might not be aware of Taylor

:13:58. > :14:01.Knibb's ability over five K and thought she would put some distance

:14:02. > :14:05.there and make life more straightforward. All the equipment

:14:06. > :14:11.is in the box. Duffy is on her way. Taylor Knibb glances to see what

:14:12. > :14:16.Flora Duffy is doing. She's out of transition. The 19-year-old

:14:17. > :14:30.American. She's on the chase for Flora Duffy. Three laps. This has

:14:31. > :14:31.been an exemplary performance for Flora Duffy. There's no stopping

:14:32. > :14:53.her. Away they go. Taylor Spivey just leading the way.

:14:54. > :14:59.She was first to strike. The difference is 12 seconds. The chase

:15:00. > :15:19.group difference is one minute and 33.

:15:20. > :15:32.She won five in a row of the races she took part in.

:15:33. > :15:42.What a season she's enjoying. Looking for her fourth straight

:15:43. > :15:47.victory. Knibb is down. Zaferes, another minute and six seconds

:15:48. > :15:59.behind. Zaferes and Cook jostling for third position right now. Knibb

:16:00. > :16:03.is having the race of her life. I cannot see, barring disaster, she'll

:16:04. > :16:18.lose that second-place finish. So that time difference now is 31

:16:19. > :16:22.second between Knibb and Duffy. 1. .37 between Knibb, Zaferes and Cook.

:16:23. > :16:27.They have not pulled anything back. If anything they have lost seven to

:16:28. > :16:32.eight seconds to Duffy on that first mile. Taylor Knibb, the 19-year-old,

:16:33. > :16:38.knows that this is potentially a turning point this her career. Her

:16:39. > :16:52.first World Triathlon series podium beckons. A chance to beat Cook,

:16:53. > :16:59.Zaferes, higher ranks members of the team. Flora Duffy, once again in a

:17:00. > :17:03.league of her own. Must get quite lonely as a top-level triathlete.

:17:04. > :17:13.She spends most of these races, or certainly this season, she's spent a

:17:14. > :17:17.lot of the race out in the front. If anything her swim is steady this

:17:18. > :17:21.year. She's always there or thereabouts. She was very strong

:17:22. > :17:25.last year. Often leading out the swim. Thisser she tucks herself in,

:17:26. > :17:29.saves some energy and works really hard in the first part of the bike.

:17:30. > :17:33.What has improved as well is her run. I can see Summer Cook now, just

:17:34. > :17:37.breaking away. She's left Katie Zaferes. Put herself into third

:17:38. > :17:44.place, which is a great performance for Summer Cook. Since her podium

:17:45. > :17:48.finish or her win here last year. A good day for Cook.

:17:49. > :17:52.Not so good for Zaferes. She'll be frustrating. Very competitive

:17:53. > :17:55.athlete. At the moment she finds herself in fourth position.

:17:56. > :18:05.19-year-old Taylor Knibb glancing over to her left. She will take the

:18:06. > :18:08.bell, she's take taken the bell with 50 seconds deficit behind Flora

:18:09. > :18:11.Duffy. Still comfortably clear of Summer Cook, who is in third. It

:18:12. > :18:14.looks like the Americans will have second and third in this race today,

:18:15. > :18:34.with thor with mewian -- with the Bermudian. She would try

:18:35. > :18:39.and lead the swim. She's swimming just as well, but she's saving her

:18:40. > :18:43.energy and then when she goes out on the bike, that's where she lets it

:18:44. > :18:49.lose and no-one can go with her, as we have seen over the last three

:18:50. > :18:52.races. A couple of weeks ago, in Hamburg, she had Learmonth on her

:18:53. > :18:57.wheel and managed to drop them as well.

:18:58. > :19:01.This is the battle for third. Cook seemed to have left Zaferes.

:19:02. > :19:06.Zaferes has found a bit of energy and has bounced back to get back on

:19:07. > :19:10.Summer Cook's shoulder here. Now, Zaferes comes into this race, or

:19:11. > :19:16.came into this race as the world number one in the standings. It is a

:19:17. > :19:20.lead that she will surrender to Flora Duffy today, unless she can

:19:21. > :19:26.climb up and finish second, but that is not looking likely. They have

:19:27. > :19:31.over a kilometre to run. And Taylor Knibb is comfortable, holding second

:19:32. > :19:37.position out right at the moment. This is our leader. She as been

:19:38. > :19:48.since the moment she left the water. Second position, Taylor Knibb, who

:19:49. > :19:53.rode with Duffy for much of the 21 K ride around Edmonton. She's about to

:19:54. > :19:58.start lapping at Lees on her way back towards transition. You are

:19:59. > :20:03.safe on the run. If you get lapped ond the bike you get taken off the

:20:04. > :20:09.course. Incredible to think that she's over a lap ahead. One minute

:20:10. > :20:13.now separates Knibb and the chase group.

:20:14. > :20:18.Yes, so Knibb is safe in second at the moment and Zaferes has beaten

:20:19. > :20:23.Cook to third position. It looked like third position was Cook's

:20:24. > :20:28.outright a few moments ago. And Cook was moving away from Zaferes. When

:20:29. > :20:33.we pick them up again, Zaferes had closed the gap. Now we go back to

:20:34. > :20:36.them and Zaferes is clear of Cook. Good work from Katie Zaferes. Katie

:20:37. > :20:41.Zaferes just needs to be more competitive on the bike. On the run

:20:42. > :20:45.she does that. She'll drop off a bit, whereas some athletes think,

:20:46. > :20:51.oh, I've nothing left to give. Katie works hard on the run. It is a shame

:20:52. > :20:56.she's not able to work as hard on the bike at the moment. So

:20:57. > :21:00.competitive. I thought Summer Cook had all the confidence of knowing

:21:01. > :21:05.she won here last year. Struggling to stay with Katie Zaferes and looks

:21:06. > :21:19.like she has lost that third place, as she had a few hundred metres ago.

:21:20. > :21:25.600 metres to go. Zaferes is out in third position. It

:21:26. > :21:30.means that Cook, who was the winner here 12 months ago, will finish off

:21:31. > :21:38.the podium, unless there is a massive change.

:21:39. > :21:44.500 metres remain for Flora Duffy. It's been another masterclass from

:21:45. > :21:47.the athlete from Bermuda. What an impact she's had on the World

:21:48. > :21:54.Triathlon series in the last couple of seasons. For so many years she

:21:55. > :21:58.was racing, she was middle order, always impressive, but never able to

:21:59. > :22:01.break the higher echelons of the sport and then a couple of years

:22:02. > :22:14.ago, she started to turn it around. I don't know whether it with us the

:22:15. > :22:16.impact that Gwen has or the British triathletes and the consistency.

:22:17. > :22:23.Something clicked for Flora Duffy and she has been the dominant force

:22:24. > :22:27.in the sport. She won the world title last year at the grand final.

:22:28. > :22:33.She also had her first World Triathlon series win in 2016. She's

:22:34. > :22:40.about to get her fourth in a row in 2017. A smile from one of the

:22:41. > :22:44.American athletes as Duffy goes past her and almost takes the wrong

:22:45. > :22:48.direction. Now she can raise her glasses, make eye contact with the

:22:49. > :22:52.spectators and enjoy the final moments oh this triathlon in

:22:53. > :22:57.Edmonton. I credible what this athlete has done. Four races and

:22:58. > :23:04.four wins now on the World Triathlon series for Flora Duffy.

:23:05. > :23:09.Extraordinary season. The winner in Yokohama, in Leeds and in Hamburg

:23:10. > :23:17.wins again in Edmonton. One hour and 23 seconds. Her winning time in the

:23:18. > :23:21.Canadian city this afternoon. And now she can just find some shade and

:23:22. > :23:27.wait for the arrival of Taylor Knibb, who sets a new personal best

:23:28. > :23:38.today. The 19-year-old American, who has had some success on the junior

:23:39. > :23:42.stage will now have her taste of success. The best American on the

:23:43. > :23:47.day in Edmonton about to take the final turn. Flora Duffy finished a

:23:48. > :23:52.while ago, but now Taylor Knibb can enjoy the last moments of the

:23:53. > :23:58.Edmonton sprint triathlon. Round five of the 2017 series has once

:23:59. > :24:03.again produced some surprises. Summer Cook was the surprise package

:24:04. > :24:07.#127b months ago. In 2017 it is Taylor Knibb, who comes home in

:24:08. > :24:12.second. Exactly one minute behind Flora Duffy.

:24:13. > :24:17.It is a pretty good run for her. She's a very young athlete. Flora

:24:18. > :24:21.Duffy is ten years her senior. A minute over five K, that is not

:24:22. > :24:27.disastrous. A great performance from the young American athlete. And

:24:28. > :24:33.Zaferes holds off the challenge of Summer Cook by some margin in the

:24:34. > :24:38.end, to finish in third. Zaferes had a chance to ride with Cook and Knibb

:24:39. > :24:43.in the early stages of the bike. A chance she missed somehow and she

:24:44. > :24:50.comes home to make it two Americans on the podium. Summer Cook finishing

:24:51. > :24:54.in fourth. Flora Duffy, our champion, gold

:24:55. > :24:58.medal-winning triathlete for the fourth time in 2017.

:24:59. > :25:02.I think I just tried to be consistent over the last two years.

:25:03. > :25:06.Try not to minimise getting injured and getting sick and be consistent

:25:07. > :25:11.throughout my training and I think I owe a lot to my keeps. You know Neil

:25:12. > :25:14.is my head coach and thenvy incorporated a running coach, who is

:25:15. > :25:19.in South Africa. I think the two of them, it is working really well. I

:25:20. > :25:25.think I am coming into my own, enjoying the sport. I keep rolling.

:25:26. > :25:29.Going up the hill, I thought I'd be better, I saw the gap form and

:25:30. > :25:34.chasing after her would not be that great. I held my own. It was as

:25:35. > :25:38.technical as riding behind something wasn't. I was at an advantage at

:25:39. > :25:42.that stage anyway. How much does getting on the podium in a race like

:25:43. > :25:48.this become a confidence boost for you for what is left of this season

:25:49. > :25:52.and beyond? Amazing. In the days previous I knew it would be tough.

:25:53. > :25:57.It was harder than anticipated. You don't have any time to be off your

:25:58. > :26:01.game. When Flora is riding you need to be with it every second. If you

:26:02. > :26:06.lose a little bit, then you are off and you are chasing the rest of the

:26:07. > :26:13.way. Katie Zaferes, on the podium once again, a regular visit to the

:26:14. > :26:17.presentation ceremonies. Taylor Knibb on the podium for the

:26:18. > :26:25.first time. I am sure it will not be the last.

:26:26. > :26:31.Her success as a junior and as an under-23 backed up now by her first

:26:32. > :26:39.podium at World Triathlon Series level - the highest level.

:26:40. > :26:47.Representing Bermuda, Flora Duffy. Done it again. Four in a row. What a

:26:48. > :26:49.run she's having in 2017. The defending world champion.

:26:50. > :26:56.Unstoppable this year. Confirmation of the final results in

:26:57. > :27:02.Edmonton. Stunning win for Flora Duffy. Taylor Knibb is on the podium

:27:03. > :27:09.for the first time in second for the USA and Katie Zaferes in third.

:27:10. > :27:16.So Duffy now leads the standings. 3200 points, her total.

:27:17. > :27:22.Zaferes is second on 3192, with Kasper in third, on 2677.

:27:23. > :27:29.Gentle, absent in Edmonton, drops to form.

:27:30. > :27:55.And you can catch all the drama from that event in Nottingham on the BBC.

:27:56. > :28:00.There are still three more races to come in this year's World Series.

:28:01. > :28:05.Next weekend we move across Canada to Montreal, with live races on

:28:06. > :28:11.Saturday and Sunday, on the BBC Sport website and highlights on

:28:12. > :28:16.Monday on BBC Two. Then Stockholm at the end of August, before the grand

:28:17. > :28:21.final in Rotterdam, on September 16th. So for many reasons and

:28:22. > :28:26.unforgettable weekend of racing in Edmonton. The two world champions

:28:27. > :28:31.rubber stamping their authority at the top of the 2017 standings. See

:28:32. > :28:32.you for more action in Montreal next weekend.

:28:33. > :28:40.Goodbye for now. The latest of our Premier League

:29:06. > :29:07.here on 5 Live. It's been a knockout day

:29:08. > :29:11.in the Premier League. One of the most sensational

:29:12. > :29:15.Premier League games in history.
