:01:11. > :01:17.Hello and welcome to the third round of the world triathlon series. This

:01:18. > :01:22.week takes place in the Japanese city of Yokohama. The Brits are out

:01:23. > :01:28.in force, so is the rain, like it is insulted. That is why we are inside.

:01:29. > :01:32.We had so much to look forward to, including all of this... He and his

:01:33. > :01:38.brother have a charity, a pub and bow a triathlon centre after them. I

:01:39. > :01:43.have been to see Jonny Brownlee in his home from home as he prepares to

:01:44. > :01:49.take on Gomez and Mario Mola. We have been given behind-the-scenes

:01:50. > :01:53.access with Paralympic, world and European champion, Andy Lewis before

:01:54. > :01:57.his first big race of the season in Yokohama. And we have a high-calibre

:01:58. > :02:04.women's event. Vicky Holland and former world champion, Lorne

:02:05. > :02:08.Stanford, featuring the Great Britain alongside Flora Duffy of

:02:09. > :02:14.Bermuda. It is not just those guys, we have a full quota of Brits

:02:15. > :02:23.competing. We have Tom Bishop, Gordon Benson, Adam Boutin, -- Adam

:02:24. > :02:28.Bowden. We have the former world champion here with me to discuss it

:02:29. > :02:33.all. Annie, it has been a great series, but this is when it gets

:02:34. > :02:36.interesting? We haven't seen any of our Olympic medallists race this

:02:37. > :02:42.season or any former world champions. So it will be great to

:02:43. > :02:47.see Jonny Brownlee back, Non Stanford and Vicky Holland. Also

:02:48. > :02:54.sell the Coldwell and Tom Bishop, it will be exciting to see them. It is

:02:55. > :03:01.quite a place to raise, Yokohama? It as a huge following in Japan,

:03:02. > :03:06.triathlon. The spectators will be out in force. It is quite technical,

:03:07. > :03:13.lots of laps on the bike. Hopefully the weather will hold out, but it

:03:14. > :03:16.will be an interesting race. Before we see the race, let's get our World

:03:17. > :03:25.Series Of Poker bearings. Where are we. Andrea Hewitt, Gomez and Mario

:03:26. > :03:32.Mola have been our first winners so far. Now we move on to Yokohama,

:03:33. > :03:37.then it will be over to Europe, starting in Leeds on the 11th of

:03:38. > :03:41.June, which will be live on BBC Two. Then over to Germany for their

:03:42. > :03:47.annual triathlon Festival in hamburg on the weekend of the 15th and 16th

:03:48. > :03:51.of July. Followed by a flying visit to Canada for two World Series races

:03:52. > :03:58.in Edmonton and Montreal at the end of July and the beginning of August.

:03:59. > :04:03.The penultimate stop is in Stockholm on the 26th of August. We end the

:04:04. > :04:10.year with this year's Grand Final in Rotterdam on the 16th of September.

:04:11. > :04:21.Andrea Hewitt, two wins out of two, leads the women's rankings. In the

:04:22. > :04:28.men's Gomez third and fourth place so far put him at the top of the

:04:29. > :04:32.tree. And world champion, last year's winner, Mario Mola, is fourth

:04:33. > :04:36.overall. For the first time this season we will see Olympic silver

:04:37. > :04:42.medallist and former world champion, Jonny Brownlee back in action.

:04:43. > :04:47.Having come so close to winning the world title in 2016, he has been

:04:48. > :04:51.telling me he is back with a point to prove.

:04:52. > :04:57.It hurts me, goes the mall. Johnny has to win to take the title. You

:04:58. > :05:01.don't get many chances to be world champion. This is a horrible sight,

:05:02. > :05:07.Alistair will try to carry his brother home. You get more publicity

:05:08. > :05:15.messing up our race. Mario Mola has won the world title. The hurt can be

:05:16. > :05:23.motivational? It can be. I am not the type person that needs to go out

:05:24. > :05:29.training. After the hard training, I look back on that day and I want to

:05:30. > :05:36.go back and do myself Justus. The heat is a problem, and I know it is

:05:37. > :05:40.a weakness. I did some testing in Portsmouth with the Navy. They were

:05:41. > :05:46.great telling me what mistakes I made and how I can improve. They

:05:47. > :05:53.told me to spend more time in hot and humid conditions. I have

:05:54. > :05:59.converted my conservatory into a heat chamber. Mine gets up to 37

:06:00. > :06:05.degrees and hopefully it will make a difference. We have been injured,

:06:06. > :06:10.are you better? I was supposed to be racing in Australia. Just before I

:06:11. > :06:16.flew, I had a scan because I had a bit of a niggle and found I had a

:06:17. > :06:22.problem with my hip. I took about five weeks of running and four weeks

:06:23. > :06:33.from cycling, so missed quite a bit of training. Yokohama com you have

:06:34. > :06:38.bad mixed race is there? Jonathan Brownlee has demolished the pill

:06:39. > :06:43.here in Yokohama. In 2014I went back, I was on the podium for 36

:06:44. > :06:52.races in a row and that was the first place I wasn't on the podium.

:06:53. > :07:00.It is Gomez, it is Mario Mola, which one will take the win? Mario Mola

:07:01. > :07:08.and Gomez, have you got your eyes on them? Same people. Gomez has a

:07:09. > :07:12.fourth and a third, so hopefully I can win some of the races and nobody

:07:13. > :07:17.has two first, Mario had been picking on loss of wins last year.

:07:18. > :07:23.Alistair isn't racing, he has gone too longer distances, how does that

:07:24. > :07:28.affect you? You train together, you compete against and also with each

:07:29. > :07:34.other, how does it change your race? I have enjoyed not having him there,

:07:35. > :07:38.it puts the emphasis on me. I can raise more aggressively instead of

:07:39. > :07:43.looking over my shoulder waiting for him to make those moves. I have had

:07:44. > :07:48.my best races when he hasn't been there. In training, I can do what

:07:49. > :07:53.suits me. I have tried to get my own group around me, running partners

:07:54. > :07:59.and people who will want to help me out. Tom Bishop did well in Abu

:08:00. > :08:05.Dhabi, when you saw that, where you surprised? I wasn't surprised. I

:08:06. > :08:08.know him very well, has trained in Leeds for a long time. He is a good

:08:09. > :08:13.athlete and has been promising that performance for a long time. He has

:08:14. > :08:21.worked very hard for it. Let's talk about Leeds, the series is coming to

:08:22. > :08:25.Leeds. This honour of having a centre to you and you are in the

:08:26. > :08:31.early part of your career? To have a centre named after you is slightly

:08:32. > :08:35.weird, but very good. It is what we are about, the performance side of

:08:36. > :08:40.the sport is here in the gym, it is exclusive for British triathlon. It

:08:41. > :08:45.is personal to you this place, I understand that when you started as

:08:46. > :08:49.there is a tree you use to meet under? Yes, whether cycling circuit

:08:50. > :08:53.is, it is where we did our cross-country races when we were

:08:54. > :09:00.kids. We used to call it the field of champions. And if you wonder what

:09:01. > :09:07.championships, you got a tree named after you buy the coach. It is close

:09:08. > :09:12.to my heart. To win in front of a home crowd, possibly to beat

:09:13. > :09:18.Alistair, that would be the highlight of the season? To become

:09:19. > :09:22.world champion, cross that line in Rotterdam as world champion, will be

:09:23. > :09:27.the best bit of the season for me. What I love about talking to johnny

:09:28. > :09:33.is, he is incredibly honest. He knows exactly what he wants to do

:09:34. > :09:37.this season? Absolutely, he wants to make amends for losing the world

:09:38. > :09:41.title to Mario Mola. He is as hungry as ever, which is wonderful.

:09:42. > :09:46.Alistair has taken a break this year. Jonathan needs to step up and

:09:47. > :09:51.into his shoes almost of Alistair, which will be tough, but he is

:09:52. > :09:56.excited to go out and race this season and see how he gets on

:09:57. > :10:02.without Alistair. Do you think he is fit, he can take on Mario Mola and

:10:03. > :10:06.Gomez? He won't have the race fitness they have, but he will have

:10:07. > :10:11.the travel in his legs. He does come very prepared, even if he hasn't

:10:12. > :10:17.raced. He will be on the start line unless he thinks he has a shot. Tom

:10:18. > :10:25.Bishop, people will be willing him on? It was such a fantastic

:10:26. > :10:29.performance, and it wasn't a fluke. He was neck and neck with Gomez

:10:30. > :10:33.until about three kilometres. A lot of people say this has been a long

:10:34. > :10:40.time coming and I am excited to see what he can do here in Yokohama.

:10:41. > :10:43.Gordon Benson, what is reasonable to expect from him? Gordon was

:10:44. > :10:48.dedicated to working towards Rio and being a pilot athlete for the

:10:49. > :10:53.Brownlee Brothers. This year he is an individual athlete on his own. He

:10:54. > :11:01.does have a strong bike, swim and run but he needs to perfect it. Adam

:11:02. > :11:06.Bowden, not a great race in Abu Dhabi, but Yokohama is his favourite

:11:07. > :11:12.place. He has had five top ten performances. It will be great to

:11:13. > :11:17.see him back racing. He is 35 now, so it is tough for him. He loves the

:11:18. > :11:22.course and has had a lot of success there. What about Mario Mola and

:11:23. > :11:27.Gomez. Gomez has not been very well? He has had a bad tooth infection and

:11:28. > :11:35.has been on antibiotics. We will have to wait and see what

:11:36. > :11:41.performance we get from him, which is loaded with talented athletes. Is

:11:42. > :11:45.Mario Mola the one to look out for? He doesn't have his training partner

:11:46. > :11:50.racing this weekend, Richard Murray. But you cannot discount him. He ran

:11:51. > :11:54.so well on the Gold Coast but that was a sprint distance, so it will be

:11:55. > :11:59.interesting to see how he goes over the standard distance. Thank you, I

:12:00. > :12:01.will let you go to the commentary booth and we can see how the race

:12:02. > :12:21.goes. He is Matthew Tilton. COMMENTATOR: The bike involves nine,

:12:22. > :12:26.four .5 kilometre circuits. Taking them on to the reclaim the land in

:12:27. > :12:29.the port of yoga hammer. Nine laps on two wheels to go to the Olympic

:12:30. > :12:49.distance of 40 kilometres. Here is the start list. A trio of

:12:50. > :12:58.Spaniards holding one, two and three.

:12:59. > :13:16.They are in the water. Round three of the world triathlon series for

:13:17. > :13:23.2017 start in spectacular style. Goodness me, one or two got left

:13:24. > :13:33.behind by the pace of the start of the swim. The return for Jonathan

:13:34. > :13:39.Brownlee, who is wearing number 33. They are on their way. They make the

:13:40. > :13:54.turn around those inflatable boys. They will go clock clockwise. That

:13:55. > :14:02.was a Peoria start, Annie? The faster swimmers want to get away and

:14:03. > :14:07.get a smaller group out there. No French athletes today, they have sat

:14:08. > :14:13.this out, which changes what goes on in the swim because the French are

:14:14. > :14:19.now on for the swimming, particularly thoroughly and Raphael.

:14:20. > :14:23.But we do have Schoeman racing. He was on the far side of the pontoon

:14:24. > :14:28.with Jonny Brownlee. The Spaniards were right the way down the other

:14:29. > :14:31.end of the pontoon. The three Spaniards together but I think

:14:32. > :14:39.Jonathan Brownlee is in good company with Schoeman.

:14:40. > :14:48.We know Wagner and Brownlee have spent a lot of time training

:14:49. > :14:56.together. It is the fast swimmer who is setting the early pace on the

:14:57. > :15:00.right of your screen wearing 47. A South African with a serious chance

:15:01. > :15:06.today, particularly stage one is Henri Shcoemann who won the world

:15:07. > :15:11.Grand Final race last year and was the Olympic bronze-medallist behind

:15:12. > :15:20.the Brownlee Brothers. Great swimmer. He will host -- hope to be

:15:21. > :15:36.close to lager in this. The man from Durban. We will keep an eye out for

:15:37. > :15:42.schoolmen. Perhaps Varger lost a bit of momentum on the turn. Can be a

:15:43. > :15:48.little dramatic. That was Gomez. Wearing number one. Diving in

:15:49. > :15:55.alongside Mola and Alarza. Polyanskiy leading them through.

:15:56. > :16:00.Varger not quite as strong as we are used to seeing him. Hoping for our

:16:01. > :16:09.first sighting of Jonny Brownlee. I think that could be him top of the

:16:10. > :16:13.screen wearing number 33. He would normally expect a higher number but

:16:14. > :16:18.because it's his first race of the season, he's starting in the 30s and

:16:19. > :16:21.he's not far away. Jonny Brownlee currently swimming in second

:16:22. > :16:26.position and he might be the first man out of the water, terrific pace

:16:27. > :16:32.from Jonathan Brownlee, top of your screen right now ahead of

:16:33. > :16:36.Polyanskiy. Word from the camp is he's been training incredibly well,

:16:37. > :16:41.said back a little bit with a cold and he had a stress response injury,

:16:42. > :16:46.they decided it was best he set out the two first races and I think that

:16:47. > :16:49.was a sensible decision but word from Malcolm Brown and his running

:16:50. > :16:58.coach, said he's really strong at the moment. He is going to love

:16:59. > :17:04.these cold, wet conditions. Bit of weight from the boats, just

:17:05. > :17:09.affecting the stroke rate of the swimmers. Looks like it will be

:17:10. > :17:14.Jonny Brownlee first out of the water, laid out his intentions, come

:17:15. > :17:18.here for the win and he's taken the early lead, Brownlee first to emerge

:17:19. > :17:27.followed by Polyanskiy. Then Henri Shcoemann, Tom Bishop in excellent

:17:28. > :17:36.shape. Followed by Gordon Benson amongst others, Blummenfelt, there

:17:37. > :17:42.is, but what has happened to Varger? He hasn't appeared on the screen,

:17:43. > :17:46.he's down in 21st, suddenly went backwards. Having made the pace.

:17:47. > :17:52.Adam Bowden originally from Watford is a little way off the pace.

:17:53. > :17:58.Surprise to see Varger that far down, he might have had an incident

:17:59. > :18:03.at the turn. Comment to the first of the turns in this second lap. Easy

:18:04. > :18:07.enough if you are out in front but for those behind it can be wet and

:18:08. > :18:13.wild at the turn to. Some swimming caps have been lost, some goggles

:18:14. > :18:19.get dislodged, you don't want to be trapped on the inside with strong

:18:20. > :18:23.arms coming down and clattering on your head, some dirty tricks get

:18:24. > :18:30.played in this situation. Just saw Gomez coming around, getting caught

:18:31. > :18:33.up in the mess, unusual, he normally finds good space to swimming,

:18:34. > :18:40.normally fast, came from a swimming background when he was younger,

:18:41. > :18:45.swimming 1500 metres, really strong. A little bit behind and off the pace

:18:46. > :18:47.but at the moment, no big gaps forming. Jonny Brownlee doing a

:18:48. > :18:54.great job but we have to wait and see when they come out of the swim.

:18:55. > :18:59.Tom Bishop in good shape at the end of the first lap, lost sight of him

:19:00. > :19:04.during this busy second lap but Jonny Brownlee will be happy if Tom

:19:05. > :19:09.Bishop is not far away then they pick up bikes. After this last 230

:19:10. > :19:23.metres in the water. Last 100 metres before they come up

:19:24. > :19:27.a ramp and then there is a steady climb up towards where the bikes are

:19:28. > :19:32.parked. It will be interesting to see if a group can get away.

:19:33. > :19:39.Small-group, I imagine it will be, certainly including Jonny Brownlee

:19:40. > :19:45.and possibly the Austrian, continuing to match Brownlee stroke

:19:46. > :19:53.for stroke. The Austrian number 17, in really good shape. Number 17.

:19:54. > :19:58.Yes, no big gaps have formed yet and I think we will see a pretty big

:19:59. > :20:03.group going out onto the bike. Jonny Brownlee working really hard,

:20:04. > :20:15.attacking this swim all the way. Big pack on his feet at the moment. The

:20:16. > :20:19.Austrian coming out in second or third, 21st in the Cape Town World

:20:20. > :20:23.Cup and 15th in the World Triathlon Series in Abu Dhabi, chasing Jonny

:20:24. > :20:29.Brownlee up the steps towards transition. Read of New Zealand out

:20:30. > :20:36.of the water in second, Gordon Benson not far behind, Brownlee,

:20:37. > :20:43.read, on the way towards the bikes. Tom Bishop out in 16th. Ryan Bailey

:20:44. > :20:52.down in 21st. Coming out of the water. Gordon Benson, not far away.

:20:53. > :20:59.Jonny Brownlee first to arrive at his bike. Will want to get his swim

:21:00. > :21:12.cap into the box and he's on his way. Gases might be useful in the

:21:13. > :21:16.driving rain. -- glasses. Gomez not far behind. There was one down

:21:17. > :21:24.already before he got his backside on the saddle! Someone hit the deck.

:21:25. > :21:29.But they scrambled to get in and out, scruffy transition for many.

:21:30. > :21:36.Mario Mola, the world champion, on his way. The road surface absolutely

:21:37. > :21:43.sodden. Treacherous out there. Not for the faint-hearted. They have to

:21:44. > :21:49.do nine laps now around the soaking streets of Yokohama. This is going

:21:50. > :21:56.to be tough. The first time Jonny Brownlee has led out of the swim

:21:57. > :22:00.since 2012 in San Diego. That looks like Jonny Brownlee working his way

:22:01. > :22:04.up the inside, getting a bit close for comfort to the other riders at

:22:05. > :22:09.the moment as they sweep around this Big Ben but at the moment warden

:22:10. > :22:15.Benson, Tom Bishop Jonathan Brownlee in there, good for the top three

:22:16. > :22:22.British athletes. Jonny Brownlee, off the front... Kristian

:22:23. > :22:29.Blummenfelt is a strong rider and if he can't Jonny Brownlee can get away

:22:30. > :22:42.they could do some damage. -- and if he and Jonny Brownlee. Speed around

:22:43. > :22:48.the road, 46, 47 kilometres an hour. Lap one is completed, in the early

:22:49. > :22:51.stages of lap two. Danger underfoot with the white lines on the road but

:22:52. > :22:58.they've negotiated everything successfully so far. I don't think

:22:59. > :23:03.this is a significant break for the three athletes out front which

:23:04. > :23:07.contained Jonny Brownlee and Kristian Blummenfelt and Taylor

:23:08. > :23:18.reader from New Zealand. He's not happy with that. Yes, he's lost his

:23:19. > :23:26.rear wheel. Someone else is down. That is to Kaiser from Belgium. And

:23:27. > :23:30.he is hurting. Jonathan Brownlee, in second right now, about to complete

:23:31. > :23:38.lap three of nine. 38 and a half minutes have passed. One or two have

:23:39. > :23:44.fallen foul of the very difficult conditions. Underfoot and under the

:23:45. > :23:49.food, a look of determination on the face of Jonny Brownlee, one of the

:23:50. > :23:54.few not wearing glasses to protect his eyes from the rain. Gordon

:23:55. > :24:00.Benson still in the group at the front, Mola joining up near the

:24:01. > :24:08.front, three seconds off the pace, Tom Bishop, Fernando Alarza, and

:24:09. > :24:14.another one of the Japanese athletes, Knabi also in there. Look

:24:15. > :24:23.at those conditions! Absolutely atrocious!

:24:24. > :24:31.Still 25 kilometres to ride, not yet at half distance, another lap and a

:24:32. > :24:35.bit to take them mid-distance of this 40 kilometres cycle. I'm not

:24:36. > :24:40.sure if Jonny Brownlee and his heat acclimatisation training he's been

:24:41. > :24:44.working on, spending time with the Royal Navy and Portsmouth will be

:24:45. > :24:49.put to much use today. I think he said he fancied some rain and Drury,

:24:50. > :24:52.cold conditions, he's used to that and that's what they enjoy, but

:24:53. > :24:56.harsh and is of the training they get in Leeds but that he'd

:24:57. > :25:00.acclimatisation training he's been doing is not going to be put to much

:25:01. > :25:05.use today that it will do later on in the season, no doubt. This was

:25:06. > :25:07.Johnny arriving in transition, the first man to emerge from Yokohama

:25:08. > :25:22.harbour. Full concentration required. Both

:25:23. > :25:27.white lines are right on the bend. That's Adam Bowden, he's down and it

:25:28. > :25:34.looks like his race is over today. After racing here pretty much six

:25:35. > :25:41.years on the trot. 16 kilometres left-to-right, the chase group now

:25:42. > :25:49.detached by almost a minute. No, what happened, trouble for Tom

:25:50. > :25:54.Bishop, he's gone down, heavily. And there is a chance Tom Bishop can

:25:55. > :25:58.regain his connection with the lead group that he's going to have to

:25:59. > :26:04.work hard, long distance view of the road to the pack with whom he was

:26:05. > :26:14.riding until three minutes ago. When he came unstuck. Lap seven from

:26:15. > :26:19.nine. Interestingly the Spaniards have set out the way, they haven't

:26:20. > :26:26.done lot of work, Gomez ahead of us, Fernandez having a great race and

:26:27. > :26:29.Mola on the left. The four Spanish athletes in the race, three of them

:26:30. > :26:36.leading the World Triathlon Series, Gomez first, Aliza second, in third

:26:37. > :26:43.place is Mario Mola. Coming towards the end of lap seven. Knabi with a

:26:44. > :26:50.quiet race -- Varger with a quiet race so far. Kept out of trouble on

:26:51. > :26:55.the bike. Now he's deciding it's time to raise the pace, he's the

:26:56. > :26:59.first man across the line followed by lumen felt and Polyanskiy. There

:27:00. > :27:21.is Jonathan in seventh. We'll see this 25 or so group come

:27:22. > :27:29.through. Then there will be a break. Then Tom Bishop, only now six

:27:30. > :27:32.seconds off the tail end of the lead group. The good thing is he has a

:27:33. > :27:38.couple of athletes here that I think are riding up, Tom Bishop, actually

:27:39. > :27:44.might find himself saved if he can get working with another couple of

:27:45. > :27:47.athletes and that small pack with a couple of laps to go can work

:27:48. > :27:52.together, it will be tough but not out of the question. Gordon Benson

:27:53. > :28:00.coming through. Sudden injection of pace from Varger has woken everyone

:28:01. > :28:10.up. They are reacting accordingly. If Tom Bishop can close the six

:28:11. > :28:14.seconds he lost, the six seconds we saw he was behind last time we

:28:15. > :28:20.checked, get back to within striking distance of this group, sometime

:28:21. > :28:26.between now and the end of the ride, within the next 6.3 kilometres, we

:28:27. > :28:32.know how well Bishop is running at the moment, he took on Gomez in Abu

:28:33. > :28:35.Dhabi, ended up second in the World Triathlon Series, he's certainly not

:28:36. > :28:42.out of this competition despite the fact he's fallen off his bike! The

:28:43. > :28:47.running shoes are positioned, waiting for the athletes to arrive.

:28:48. > :28:57.They have another circuit to complete. There is the bell. Eight

:28:58. > :29:03.down and one to go, eight point for five metres left on the bikes, then

:29:04. > :29:08.the 10,000 metre footrace to conclude the World Triathlon Series

:29:09. > :29:09.race in Japan. And there is plenty of British interest left in the

:29:10. > :29:27.contest. Is that Tom Bishop? 11 seconds down.

:29:28. > :29:31.Tom Bishop is almost back with the leading group. What an effort from

:29:32. > :29:39.Tom Bishop. Goodness me! He still thinks he can compete on the final

:29:40. > :29:43.lap and heading out into the ten kilometre run. A monumental effort

:29:44. > :29:48.after falling from his bike. Let's see what happens here in the last

:29:49. > :29:52.couple of kilometres. This is where you have got to stay out of trouble.

:29:53. > :29:57.Other than positioning yourself to go into the transition area well,

:29:58. > :30:03.there is no point doing anything daft here. You got round 38

:30:04. > :30:07.kilometres in one piece. Tom Bishop, just about. We don't want to mess it

:30:08. > :30:15.up now. It is about finding the right position so you are in a good

:30:16. > :30:19.position coming off the bike. The Spaniards haven't done a lot of work

:30:20. > :30:24.today. They have stayed out of trouble. Which is a good thing. We

:30:25. > :30:32.have another one down. Just two guys. Jonny Brownlee is one of them.

:30:33. > :30:38.His bike is on top of the railings. One of the Japanese guys has hit the

:30:39. > :30:47.railings hard. Goodness me, a heavy crash. Brownlee, over the top of the

:30:48. > :30:54.railings, spectacular crash. That is going to hurt. My goodness me. That

:30:55. > :31:00.is a nightmare. Having kept himself out of trouble. I don't think it was

:31:01. > :31:04.his fault, I think he was taking evasive action. That forced him to

:31:05. > :31:11.ride straight into the metal railing. Certainly did. He looked

:31:12. > :31:18.OK, thank goodness, but his bike didn't. That meant he couldn't get

:31:19. > :31:22.back. So the end of the bike and the final lap has been packed with

:31:23. > :31:35.incident and drama. Who has come through unscathed?

:31:36. > :31:41.Kristian Blummenfelt, avoided the drama. Polyanskiy has arrived in

:31:42. > :31:51.transition. Gordon Benson is safely in. And trying to get out,

:31:52. > :31:56.Hernandez, Gomez. Fernando Alarza. Tom Bishop has made it in. Bishop,

:31:57. > :32:01.one of the last in and to leave, but he managed to avoid the trouble that

:32:02. > :32:11.Jonny Brownlee found himself in the middle of. Schoeman, raising the

:32:12. > :32:16.pace. It is a fast start for Henry Skillman, the winner of the Grand

:32:17. > :32:22.final last year after the Brownlee Brothers had to carry each other

:32:23. > :32:27.across the line. -- Henri Schoeman. Jonny Brownlee says, I fancy

:32:28. > :32:33.carrying my bike in and then doing a ten K run. That would be Brownlee

:32:34. > :32:39.style. Let's see what he does. I am reminded of Mark Jenkins in Athens,

:32:40. > :32:44.2004, carried his bike home to get the transition and try and complete

:32:45. > :32:49.the Olympic triathlon. Jonny Brownlee is still carrying his bike

:32:50. > :32:57.home. Heroic effort. He has got a long way to go. Meanwhile, Mola has

:32:58. > :33:02.found the front of the race. Has taken it upon himself to lead the

:33:03. > :33:06.way. Schoeman, just behind him. Jonny Brownlee has arrived, parking

:33:07. > :33:16.his bike. Going to have a crack at this 10,000 metre run. Mola, taking

:33:17. > :33:26.control of the speed of this 10,000 metre run. He wants this one. Shame

:33:27. > :33:31.not to see Tom Bishop up there. Can't help that crash and the effort

:33:32. > :33:39.he put into ride back to the front pack, has perhaps taken its toll.

:33:40. > :33:43.Jonny Brownlee has bravely continued. Nothing he can do about

:33:44. > :33:49.this leader of Mario Mola's after the crash on his bike, but is

:33:50. > :33:52.determined to finish. He has only ever failed to finish one world

:33:53. > :33:58.triathlon series race and that was back in 2013. The only time he has

:33:59. > :34:05.not finished a race. Determined to maintain the good record. Kristian

:34:06. > :34:11.Blummenfelt, is a big boy, but he runs along nicely. Have a great

:34:12. > :34:16.swim, excellent ride and is currently in third. Fernando Alarza,

:34:17. > :34:21.at the Mola is the best of the Spaniards in fourth. There is Gordon

:34:22. > :34:28.Benson. This is a cracking pace set by Mario Mola. At the moment,

:34:29. > :34:32.Schoeman is staying with him. Kristian Blummenfelt, looking less

:34:33. > :34:41.comfortable. Hasn't lost his way yet, Kristian Blummenfelt. He is

:34:42. > :34:46.right in there with Schoeman. Jonny Brownlee has completed his first

:34:47. > :34:51.lap. Just a good job he's not hurt. He will be more annoyed than

:34:52. > :35:03.anything. Halfway through, two laps to go. An hour and 33 minutes has

:35:04. > :35:09.passed. Mario Mola has moved clear of Christian Blumenfeld, Schoeman

:35:10. > :35:12.and the emerging Fernando Alarza. We can see Fernando Alarza now just

:35:13. > :35:18.about to join Christian Blum and felled and Schoeman. Now Schoeman

:35:19. > :35:23.and Kristian Blummenfelt will have to work hard because Fernando Alarza

:35:24. > :35:29.is going from strength to strength. These two athletes worked hard on

:35:30. > :35:35.the bike, didn't see Fernando Alarza doing a lot. He comes up onto the

:35:36. > :35:41.shoulder of Schoeman. Fernando Alarza has got that job done. He has

:35:42. > :35:50.moved up into joint second position. And now he moves away from firstly

:35:51. > :35:56.Blummenfelt and then Schoeman. Both trying to respond. Fernando Alarza

:35:57. > :36:01.has plenty of power in those legs and is in outright second position.

:36:02. > :36:07.Good running from Mola. He is aware that Fernando Alarza is there now.

:36:08. > :36:12.Spanish, have such a good record. If they held on for first and second

:36:13. > :36:18.here, it will be the 14th time we have had two Spanish triathletes on

:36:19. > :36:24.the world triathlon series podium. News on Jonny Brownlee, he is

:36:25. > :36:29.getting further removed, unsurprisingly from the leaders. He

:36:30. > :36:35.is six minutes off the pace. This is the battle for second. Schoeman of

:36:36. > :36:40.South Africa, Fernando Alarza of Spain. Blummenfelt of Norway. As

:36:41. > :36:45.Mola, the leader arrives in transition after an hour and 40

:36:46. > :36:58.minutes exactly, he will take the Bell for his final lap. He will not

:36:59. > :37:03.be caught now barring any mishap. Mario Mola, leading this race.

:37:04. > :37:09.Familiar sight of the Spaniard in full control as Fernando Alarza digs

:37:10. > :37:15.deep and finds another kick from somewhere. This time, Schoeman

:37:16. > :37:22.appears unable to respond. He won this race 12 months ago.

:37:23. > :37:28.Unsurprisingly, given the atrocious weather conditions, his winning time

:37:29. > :37:33.in 2017 will be a bit slower, but it is another very impressive world

:37:34. > :37:42.triathlon series win for Mario Mola of Spain. The world triathlon

:37:43. > :37:50.champion the 2016, gets his 2017 challenge on track. It will be a

:37:51. > :37:54.Spanish one, Maaike Caelers. A final effort from Fernando Alarza. And

:37:55. > :38:00.Blummenfelt is having one more crack at Schoeman. What a finish from

:38:01. > :38:04.Kristian Blummenfelt. He has gone past the South African and has

:38:05. > :38:11.Fernando Alarza in his sights. Brilliant win from Mola. Fernando

:38:12. > :38:15.Alarza holds on and what a final fight back from the incredible

:38:16. > :38:21.Christian Blum and felled. Where did he find that sprint finish?

:38:22. > :38:27.Blummenfelt takes the bronze. Schoeman, eventually relegated to

:38:28. > :38:31.fourth. Out of the medals. Mola wins by eight seconds to Fernando Alarza.

:38:32. > :38:39.Blummenfelt finishes in a courageous third position. What an astonishing

:38:40. > :38:51.race that was the Jonny Brownlee. He has finished 42nd position. Very

:38:52. > :38:55.happy, has been a good day for me. On the bike, we had to be very

:38:56. > :39:01.careful. I think Johnny was involved in the crash with so many others.

:39:02. > :39:08.You never know what will happen and today, luckily it worked very good

:39:09. > :39:13.for me. Very pleased. Happy with a silver medal. I am happy from

:39:14. > :39:22.marriage, happy for me and the Spanish team. It was another good

:39:23. > :39:30.race. A thought I would be able to get in front of them, but I wasn't

:39:31. > :39:35.able to. I am sick of not getting on the podium. It is my first of the

:39:36. > :39:40.year. Mario Mola wins for the second time this season and for the second

:39:41. > :39:47.year in succession in your Bahama, head of his compatriot, Fernando

:39:48. > :39:53.Alarza. With a brilliant finish from Blummenfelt, taking the bronze. Tom

:39:54. > :39:59.Bishop was 12 and a courageous Jonathan Brownlee finished in 42nd

:40:00. > :40:06.position. So Mario Mola now leads the series rankings the 2017. It is

:40:07. > :40:11.a Spanish one, two, Terry. Thomas Bishop is the best of the British

:40:12. > :40:19.contingent in sixth position overall.

:40:20. > :40:29.What a race. Thrills, spills and drama. The bike conditions were

:40:30. > :40:34.atrocious? Yes, not much luck, Tom Bishop came off on a slippery

:40:35. > :40:39.corner. Herrick effort from him to ride back to the pack. They were

:40:40. > :40:44.working pretty hard and he rode back up single-handedly. I think he paid

:40:45. > :40:50.the price, but what an incredible performance. What do we say about

:40:51. > :40:54.Johnny? Always dramatic. He falls off the bike, it really looks like a

:40:55. > :41:00.bad crash. Then gets up and runs with the bike. As he tweeted, it

:41:01. > :41:06.could have been worse. It wasn't a nice crash, but he stood up, was in

:41:07. > :41:09.one piece and then the frustration of finding his bike, the handlebars

:41:10. > :41:17.were twisted and he could not get it working so the easiest thing was to

:41:18. > :41:20.run with it. We had from Johnny, he said it was going quite well, the

:41:21. > :42:17.swim went really well... That is Johnny all over, he is

:42:18. > :42:21.already looking ahead. Yes, you have got no choice. You have got to be

:42:22. > :42:29.philosophical. As mad as you might be in that moment, things happen.

:42:30. > :42:32.Positives for the Spanish team. One, two for them. Mola, I doubted him to

:42:33. > :42:38.begin with because it was cold conditions are not great for him.

:42:39. > :42:42.But he has become an all round, complete triathletes. Dealt with the

:42:43. > :42:45.conditions well and did what was required. He played it safe and

:42:46. > :42:55.sensible on the bike. He didn't work to hard and had good legs going into

:42:56. > :43:00.the run. Fernando Alarza was happy with second, he has been known as

:43:01. > :43:04.the third athlete of the top three Spaniards, but a great performance

:43:05. > :43:09.from him. Also this weekend is the para triathlon series second round.

:43:10. > :43:13.Britain has sent a strong team and it includes European, world and

:43:14. > :43:19.Paralympic champion Andy Lewis and Tom Bourdy 's has been speaking to

:43:20. > :43:23.him ahead of the race. Triathlon is a tough sport, we know

:43:24. > :43:27.that and you have to be good at three disciplines and you have got

:43:28. > :43:29.to be mentally strong. Come and meet a man who knows more about that than

:43:30. > :43:44.most. Paralympic champion, but your life

:43:45. > :43:53.started in a different direction? It did. In 1999, I lost my leg in a

:43:54. > :44:02.motorbike accident. How old were you? 16. Why was this super fit guy,

:44:03. > :44:06.just accepted into The Parachute Regiment, ready to go and fight for

:44:07. > :44:14.my country and then all of a sudden, in a hospital bed for three months.

:44:15. > :44:18.What was the journey from the point where you have your leg amputation

:44:19. > :44:20.to the point where you start thinking, I can represent my

:44:21. > :44:30.country, I could go to the Paralympics?

:44:31. > :44:41.I remember being in Blackpool, it in a hotel, they were talking about the

:44:42. > :44:46.Paralympics and that was coming into 2012. Jonnie Peacock was on there

:44:47. > :44:50.and I remember saying to my wife, I want to do that. Literally that

:44:51. > :44:54.night I remember writing a piece to put on my Facebook page to tell

:44:55. > :44:57.everyone I was going to do it because I'm quite a firm believer if

:44:58. > :45:01.you are going to set goals or try and achieve something, if you keep

:45:02. > :45:05.it to yourself and it's just do that knows about the probably won't do

:45:06. > :45:11.it. When degree addition Aero first feel like a realistic bowl? There

:45:12. > :45:16.are European Championships last year, only so many spots, that's

:45:17. > :45:21.when Rio de Janeiro became, we are on there, I have got to put

:45:22. > :45:25.everything into it. How were you feeling, the culmination of those

:45:26. > :45:30.hopes and ambitions? When I think about it now it's like, it is a big

:45:31. > :45:37.wheel but when I was racing at felt like another race. When did you know

:45:38. > :45:41.the race was yours, you won by quite a comfortable margin? I remember

:45:42. > :45:46.going round the top bend, I thought, I am going to keep my head down,

:45:47. > :45:50.concentrate on what I am doing, if I've won this race and never get

:45:51. > :45:55.this opportunity to run through the banner again and have the Union Jack

:45:56. > :46:00.raised up and the National Anthem playing, I'm going to make sure I

:46:01. > :46:05.enjoy it. Now the Paralympic cycle starts again. Three and a half years

:46:06. > :46:16.of graft and direct and I still have another one in me! -- I reckon.

:46:17. > :46:20.We've had the swimming, the eating, the physio, now for the really nasty

:46:21. > :46:32.part, the bike. What motivates you to keep going

:46:33. > :46:36.through sessions like this? You've already won the gold medal, achieved

:46:37. > :46:41.something incredible? People have told me, you know, why don't you

:46:42. > :46:46.retire? Sit back and let someone else have a go because you've done

:46:47. > :46:52.it. I'm still a baby in triathlon, you know. I might be 34 but I've

:46:53. > :47:01.still got a lot together! Come on! That's it! Come on! Almost feels

:47:02. > :47:10.intrusive watching this, he's going through so much pain. It feels like

:47:11. > :47:19.we are intruding. Breathe deep! Come on, Andy! It's all over, feeling

:47:20. > :47:24.relieved? Satisfied? Getting ready to race now, tidying up the lab is a

:47:25. > :47:29.little bit, my race prep, yes, not long to go until Yokohama. It's been

:47:30. > :47:34.great seeing how your day works, impressive, a little bit scary at

:47:35. > :47:40.times, being honest, but we wish you the best of luck in Yokohama and we

:47:41. > :47:45.catch up soon. And the good news is Andy had a very successful day in

:47:46. > :47:49.Yokohama winning his category, British parrot triathlon had three

:47:50. > :47:55.golds, two silvers and two bronzes in total and there were wins for

:47:56. > :47:59.Alison Patrick and to guide Nicole Walters in their category. And for

:48:00. > :48:07.Dave Ellis and Jack P is good in the men's equivalent. Silver medals went

:48:08. > :48:14.to Ryan Taylor in the newly formed class and Jade Jones in her first

:48:15. > :48:17.ever triathlon race. Annie, some really fantastic results are but

:48:18. > :48:21.would it be fair to say there was some confusion going in because

:48:22. > :48:25.there'd been changes to categories? I would call it a progression in the

:48:26. > :48:29.sport and it needed to happen. It's quite complicated but I think they

:48:30. > :48:32.are working it out and in the long-term everyone is going to be

:48:33. > :48:37.clearer and happier with where they're going. I've been lucky

:48:38. > :48:40.enough to watch parrot triathletes in action and they are truly

:48:41. > :48:50.inspiring to watch, such a great sport. -- para. You look at an

:48:51. > :48:56.able-bodied triathlete with Inigo here and there but some of these

:48:57. > :49:01.guys aren't overcoming incredible adversity is to compete at a really

:49:02. > :49:06.amazing level and did so inspiring. You should watch it, if you want to

:49:07. > :49:10.watch and take part there will be a para super sprint event, the day

:49:11. > :49:15.before with the Bramleys compete, it's on Sunday the 11th of June and

:49:16. > :49:20.is open to newcomers. Goat to the world triathlon information pages,

:49:21. > :49:24.or lots more details on how to apply and there is a deadline for entries,

:49:25. > :49:29.this Wednesday. What would you say to anyone who is thinking maybe they

:49:30. > :49:36.will give it a go? Don't hold back, give it a go, some amazing para

:49:37. > :49:40.triathletes Albert, don't miss out. We know how Jonny Brownlee is doing

:49:41. > :49:45.but Alistair Brownlee has begun his middle-distance career, so far, it's

:49:46. > :49:52.going really well. The distances at this level are 1.9 kilometres swim,

:49:53. > :49:58.90 kilometres bike, half marathon run and Alistair said a course

:49:59. > :50:02.record en route to his first challenging Gran Canaria last month

:50:03. > :50:09.and in a much tougher field in Utah he was victorious again, beating the

:50:10. > :50:15.former Olympic and burnt Ironman champion course record by an

:50:16. > :50:20.incredible three minutes. That means he is double Olympic champion and

:50:21. > :50:27.qualified for the half Ironman World Championships in Tennessee. He is an

:50:28. > :50:29.extraordinary athlete, isn't he? He really is and he's embracing this

:50:30. > :50:35.but I don't think many people had doubts he would manage the distance.

:50:36. > :50:40.The guys train a lot, they train long and hard, to step up to the

:50:41. > :50:45.half iron-macro distance, it is tough but well within his

:50:46. > :50:50.capabilities as we've already seen. He is of course too much excitement

:50:51. > :50:54.coming back for Leeds, isn't he? He is and some people might say as he

:50:55. > :50:58.slowed down because he's gone longer but I don't think so. The races he's

:50:59. > :51:02.done will make him stronger for Leeds and it's a tough course, as we

:51:03. > :51:08.know. We know from what Johnny has told me that he wants to beat him

:51:09. > :51:11.there. If he doesn't, it will be shocking. No, it won't. It will be

:51:12. > :51:16.tough and if Alistair finds himself in a position to go and win it, he

:51:17. > :51:21.is going to go and win it, isn't he? But hopefully that won't be the

:51:22. > :51:25.case. Really looking forward to seeing them race but shall we talk

:51:26. > :51:47.about the women's race and what a race this could turn out to be?

:51:48. > :51:55.In the women's race, lots of big names back including world champion

:51:56. > :52:00.Flora Duffy. Really exciting to see her back, she had intended to start

:52:01. > :52:05.the year in Abu Dhabi but she had an injury and was advised not to race.

:52:06. > :52:09.I love to watch a race, she races hard, attacks it, doesn't leave

:52:10. > :52:13.anything out there, anything behind. It will be great to see her back

:52:14. > :52:18.racing particularly if conditions are rough. Really strong British

:52:19. > :52:24.team. A great team, very exciting. Non Stanford and Vicky Hack racing,

:52:25. > :52:28.Vicky was supposed to be racing in the World Cup race in China, but she

:52:29. > :52:32.had a bit of a calf problem and decided to sit it out but as far as

:52:33. > :52:37.we know she's going ahead and racing in Yokohama and Lucy Hall and

:52:38. > :52:48.Jessica Learmonth, those two teaming up really well with the strong

:52:49. > :52:54.swimmer and bike. Lucy Caldwell is one to watch, a young athlete coming

:52:55. > :52:57.through the ranks. They know you happen speaking to the performance

:52:58. > :53:03.director of British triathlon and what insights did he give you to how

:53:04. > :53:07.they have been approaching things. He said they wanted to get people on

:53:08. > :53:10.the podium but it's about individual performances, each athlete going out

:53:11. > :53:17.and seeing what they are capable of doing. Note team tactics, no rules

:53:18. > :53:21.as such. You don't want to stitch up a team-mate but you want to go out

:53:22. > :53:26.and race hard. Very good luck to them all. Let's find out here they

:53:27. > :53:34.are up against. Here is the swim guide. With two wins out of two,

:53:35. > :53:38.Andrea -- Andrea Hewitt is the women debate. She has already qualified

:53:39. > :53:41.for the Commonwealth Games next year, she be aiming to improve on

:53:42. > :53:48.the bronze medal she won in Melbourne 12 years ago. Katie

:53:49. > :53:53.Zaferes from the US has the silver lining to her swim cap and number

:53:54. > :53:57.two on her arm, she and husband Tommy featured on the US reality TV

:53:58. > :54:03.show. They had their first and you guessed it, very small home gold for

:54:04. > :54:08.them. Number three and wearing bronze on the start line, the

:54:09. > :54:14.Japanese charge is led by this athlete.

:54:15. > :54:19.A talented painter in her spare time, she's been out on her bike

:54:20. > :54:28.with fellow art lover Tom Bishop this week. Australian Ashleigh

:54:29. > :54:33.Gentle finished runner-up in Yokohama in 2015 and 16 and she's

:54:34. > :54:38.been working with a training group over the past few months. Another

:54:39. > :54:43.second place finish in Gold Coast and able cemented her spot at the

:54:44. > :54:47.Commonwealth Games next year. World champion Flora Duffy has been having

:54:48. > :54:51.hip problems which delayed the start of the defence of her title this

:54:52. > :54:57.year. Now she's back and ready to race. And with extra link on her

:54:58. > :55:03.finger after wife friend and fellow triathlete Dan Hugo proposed last

:55:04. > :55:07.month! We can see from those pictures Flora Duffy has been

:55:08. > :55:12.talking a lot about her engagement, she looks so happy but what boost

:55:13. > :55:16.does that give to an athlete? It will be really big, if an athlete is

:55:17. > :55:21.happy they will train and race well, overall it will have a really

:55:22. > :55:24.positive impact on her racing. Who will she be looking out for?

:55:25. > :55:29.Ashleigh Gentle will be there, so strong. She raced well in Yokohama

:55:30. > :55:36.last year, great history of racing in Yokohama, top two finishes before

:55:37. > :55:41.there. Great swim bike, so phenomenal but she has a problem on

:55:42. > :55:46.the swim and she will need to be up there if she is to be a threat to

:55:47. > :55:51.Flora. And you can't not pension Andrea Hewitt, a cracking start to

:55:52. > :55:55.the season, she has 12-macro, could she win a third? If she does, she

:55:56. > :56:06.will be only one of third women -- three women to achieve such a feat,

:56:07. > :56:10.when you're bunsen, if she manages to get three in a row it will be

:56:11. > :56:17.special. Go back to the commentary booth, the women's race, let's hear

:56:18. > :56:21.from the commentators. COMMENTATOR: there is the star of

:56:22. > :56:26.the show so far, Andrea Hewitt from Christchurch, New Zealand. Just

:56:27. > :56:32.being introduced to the crowds in Yokohama. Katie said there is is as

:56:33. > :56:37.well, Ashleigh Gentle starting today. Number nine. The British

:56:38. > :56:45.representative, the keyhole and wearing 35, Non Stanford 37, Lucy

:56:46. > :56:52.Hall wearing 38, Jessica Learmonth 40, Sophie Coldwell wearing 48. Lots

:56:53. > :56:59.of names, Flora Duffy wearing 34 today. Hewitt wearing a gold

:57:00. > :57:05.triathlon logo on the side of her swim cap as the leader.

:57:06. > :57:13.We are ready for round three. The 20 17th World Triathlon Series,

:57:14. > :57:25.Yokohama is the venue in Japan and they are under way! Can watch. Wet

:57:26. > :57:31.weather. A non-wetsuit swim. With 1.3 kilometres to swim, Jessica

:57:32. > :57:36.Learmonth of Great Britain forcing the pace, a really good pace out in

:57:37. > :57:45.front. Clearwater. Barely a ripple on the surface. She looks great,

:57:46. > :57:50.doesn't she? Noticing her team-mate, number 38, Lucy Hall, these two work

:57:51. > :57:58.well together, they know one another so well. -- Lucy Hall. They race

:57:59. > :58:03.well together. They've both been racing pretty hard. First and a

:58:04. > :58:09.second Inchcape town World Cup sprint distance. Lucy was first and

:58:10. > :58:15.Jessica second, they raced at the European Cup race in the grand

:58:16. > :58:20.Canaries and Jessica was first, Lucy second, these athletes leading the

:58:21. > :58:27.swim will be interesting to watch. The first turn, all quite tranquil.

:58:28. > :58:32.Plenty of space between the first ten going through. As the main bunch

:58:33. > :58:39.arrived and they swim in close formation you can see one or two

:58:40. > :58:45.getting stuck on the turning buoys, hands and fingers and elbows getting

:58:46. > :58:49.in the way, one or two have to take evasive action to avoid getting

:58:50. > :58:54.docked on the turn. That is not fun when you are in there, a couple of

:58:55. > :58:58.the athletes looking chilly on the start line, Andrea Hewitt, the

:58:59. > :59:02.current world number one, she has won the first two races in Abu Dhabi

:59:03. > :59:08.and on the Gold Coast, she looked a little bit chilly, slightly

:59:09. > :59:10.worrying, she raced in new Plymouth, the World Cup race, it got very cold

:59:11. > :59:17.and she finished way down the pack which was not such a good race for

:59:18. > :59:20.her with two great starts in the World Triathlon Series, lets up the

:59:21. > :59:24.cold weather doesn't affect today. Here they come, the first lap done

:59:25. > :59:29.and dusted, we will get a full check. We know it's Jessica

:59:30. > :59:36.Learmonth first out of the water. Followed by Lucy Hall. Summer Cook.

:59:37. > :59:43.Another Union Flag alongside Sophie Coldwell, Flora Duffy following.

:59:44. > :59:51.Non Stanford in good shape coming out of the water in ninth. Look out

:59:52. > :59:54.for a Vicky Holland making a return. 17 seconds off the pace. Out of the

:59:55. > :00:06.water in 15th. We have now accounted for all five

:00:07. > :00:19.British triathletes. They are within 15 seconds of each other coming out

:00:20. > :00:23.of the water. Extraordinary scenes, sending some of the harbour fish

:00:24. > :00:30.jumping for cover. Let's hope they don't have a fish phobia. There was

:00:31. > :00:35.an athlete from Luxembourg who had a phobia. If she saw a fish in the

:00:36. > :00:43.water, she had to get out. But these athletes look pretty OK here. Number

:00:44. > :00:51.three, Ai Ueda from Japan, not known as a strong summer. Finished third

:00:52. > :00:55.here in Yokohama. This is the eighth race that has been staged here, so

:00:56. > :01:01.she is a fair way back at the moment. Ai Ueda, sadly for the

:01:02. > :01:07.Japanese supporters who have come to see her and the others, but

:01:08. > :01:11.particularly Ai Ueda. She is miles off the pace right now and will hope

:01:12. > :01:19.for a strong working group on the bike to try to move up through the

:01:20. > :01:24.field. Just short of 19 minutes, as the leading swimmers exit the water.

:01:25. > :01:32.Get their feet back onto, not dry land, but wet land. On the short

:01:33. > :01:38.climb, Jessica Liam month. Sophie Coldwell and Flora Duffy is in this

:01:39. > :01:45.front pack as well. -- Jack is -- Jessica Learmonth. She will be with

:01:46. > :01:51.the lead group, assuming she has a good transition. Non Stanford,

:01:52. > :01:59.didn't lose any time on that. Great swimming for her. This is positive

:02:00. > :02:03.in light of her swim last year, she has definitely improved over the

:02:04. > :02:15.winter. We could have a group of seven or eight working together.

:02:16. > :02:19.Hall seemed to get her helmet and quite quickly. That was nice and

:02:20. > :02:26.neat from Flora Duffy, the world champion. She joins the leaders, it

:02:27. > :02:34.Jessica Learmonth, Hall and Sophie Coldwell. Non Stanford, making her

:02:35. > :02:38.way out of transition. Hewitt of New Zealand is quite a way back and

:02:39. > :02:45.hasn't reached her bike yet. The world leader. Two wins out of two so

:02:46. > :02:51.far for Andrea Hewitt. She will have to do some work on the bike. Vicky

:02:52. > :02:57.Holland, the Olympic bronze medallist, is away. No surprise to

:02:58. > :03:01.see Flora Duffy out in front. She will dictate terms on two wheels.

:03:02. > :03:06.She is probably the strongest cyclist in the race today. Not only

:03:07. > :03:10.is she the strongest, but technically she is very good as

:03:11. > :03:15.well. She will enjoy these conditions, although they don't have

:03:16. > :03:22.so much rain in Bermuda. Someone is down. Goodness me. It is Non

:03:23. > :03:27.Stanford on the floor. She is picking up her bike and bravely

:03:28. > :03:37.remounting. It is the first we've seen to crash. I think she probably

:03:38. > :03:40.won't be the last. Thankfully she is able to continue, assuming there is

:03:41. > :03:49.no mechanical damage to the bike. Flora Duffy in front. I am sure that

:03:50. > :03:56.is Sophie Coldwell. Yes it is. Duffy and Sophie Coldwell forcing the

:03:57. > :04:07.pace. That is what they face, puddles on the tarmac. Real

:04:08. > :04:16.concentration through the turns. Jessica Learmonth and Hall. This

:04:17. > :04:21.field is broken up. Not something we commonly see, but the swimming was

:04:22. > :04:26.so fast and the road conditions will unnerve a lot of athletes. Non

:04:27. > :04:36.Stanford is off her bike. We did see her get back on, but hopefully there

:04:37. > :04:41.is hope for her. Sarah Duffy -- Flora Duffy and Sophie Coldwell of

:04:42. > :04:55.the first two. Lucy Hall and Jessica Liam month are nine seconds off the

:04:56. > :04:59.pace. We have Kirsten Kasper and the first of the Australians. Then a

:05:00. > :05:04.working group of five. That includes Vicky Holland, who is trying to get

:05:05. > :05:09.her sunglasses on to protect her eyes from the rain, so she can see.

:05:10. > :05:15.Nothing to do with the glare of the Sun today. Very tough conditions.

:05:16. > :05:22.Look at the spray coming off the wheels. Non Stanford is 45 seconds

:05:23. > :05:32.off the pace following the fall. Sophie Coldwell and Flora Duffy.

:05:33. > :05:37.Conditions will prevent any serious move from further down the field.

:05:38. > :05:43.You cannot get a working group together because the conditions

:05:44. > :05:51.don't allow it. The chase group has swollen to a group of five, or

:05:52. > :06:03.shortly to become five. Getting on for 30 seconds this time.

:06:04. > :06:12.21 seconds added to Flora Duffy and Sophie Coldwell's lead during the

:06:13. > :06:17.second lap. Vicky Holland intent. 42 seconds, getting closely involved in

:06:18. > :06:23.this race now. 39 seconds between the leaders and the chase group.

:06:24. > :06:28.They make their way through the fourth lap of nine. I am impressed

:06:29. > :06:33.with the crowds. The weather is horrible. They are all out with

:06:34. > :06:39.their brollies. Alice better has incurred a 15 second penalty for not

:06:40. > :06:45.putting her swim goggles into the plastic box. That is tough, but they

:06:46. > :06:49.are tough with the rules. Now is the time in the race when you need to

:06:50. > :06:56.crank it up a bit. These two athletes doing well. Around 37

:06:57. > :07:00.seconds so the time difference has increased, but fractionally around

:07:01. > :07:04.three seconds since the last lap. Somebody has some trouble. Another

:07:05. > :07:10.down on the turn towards the transition. One of the British

:07:11. > :07:16.triathletes. Is that Vicky Holland? It is Jessica Learmonth. Hitting the

:07:17. > :07:22.deck sharply. She will be bruised, but she is back in the saddle. Brave

:07:23. > :07:27.continuation, back in the race. We have had quite a few folders today.

:07:28. > :07:31.It doesn't surprise me with the weather conditions. It is not their

:07:32. > :07:37.bike handling skills, it really is treacherous. Very disappointing that

:07:38. > :07:44.is two British athletes who have gone down, Non Stanford and Jessica

:07:45. > :07:52.Learmonth. Non Stanford is still racing, but she is 32 seconds down.

:07:53. > :08:00.Flora Duffy and Sophie Coldwell. 41 seconds was their lead. See if it

:08:01. > :08:17.has changed at the completion of lap seven. Looks like it might be

:08:18. > :08:22.stretched out towards 44, 45 seconds. Have they managed to change

:08:23. > :08:31.the time difference in their favour? Onto wards the timing beam now.

:08:32. > :08:42.Getting on for 50 seconds. Further damage done. Another seven seconds

:08:43. > :08:45.added to Flora Duffy and Sophie Coldwell's lead. I know the

:08:46. > :08:49.performance director said they wanted athletes on the podium and

:08:50. > :08:54.they didn't mind which one, but they wanted British athletes on the

:08:55. > :09:12.podium. At the moment, Vicky Holland is in a great place for a podium

:09:13. > :09:16.place. 48 seconds with 7.5 kilometres still to ride before they

:09:17. > :09:19.hang up the bikes, put on their running shoes and head into the rain

:09:20. > :09:29.for the 10,000 metre conclusion. Their best times over ten K. Flora

:09:30. > :09:35.Duffy, 34 minutes. For Sophie Coldwell, 35 minutes and 55 seconds.

:09:36. > :09:43.Flora Duffy with the best personal best. Care and caution required.

:09:44. > :09:47.Brakes applied through the turns. We have seen one or two go down coming

:09:48. > :09:53.into this stage at the end of the lap. 48 seconds was the time

:09:54. > :10:03.difference at the end of lap seven. It will be getting on and possibly

:10:04. > :10:09.beyond a minute now. Flora Duffy and Sophie Coldwell had set sail on

:10:10. > :10:15.their final lap. One minute and seven seconds between Flora Duffy,

:10:16. > :10:26.Sophie Coldwell and the first of the chase group, which was Vicky

:10:27. > :10:31.Holland. Jeff Sluman, who came off her bike has clawed her way back up

:10:32. > :10:38.into 12th position. -- Jessica Learmonth. When you come down hard

:10:39. > :10:42.like that, it can shake you up and it takes a brave athlete to get back

:10:43. > :10:48.on and then race hard. So fair play to Jessica Learmonth. Another one

:10:49. > :10:54.down, Ai Ueda has gone down and taken out one of the photographers.

:10:55. > :11:01.She is laughing it off, thankfully. I assume all is OK in her world,

:11:02. > :11:09.physically. But the end of the bike, after an intriguing 40 kilometres on

:11:10. > :11:12.two wheels, the world champion Flora Duffy and young Sophie Coldwell

:11:13. > :11:18.arrived at the dismount line. The red flag stays down. They have done

:11:19. > :11:23.that right, but they had to be neat and tidy. Flora Duffy finds her

:11:24. > :11:27.position and wants to get a position transition. Running shoes going on.

:11:28. > :11:31.What needs to go in the plastic box has the go there, but she has been

:11:32. > :11:38.beaten out of transition by Sophie Coldwell. The chase group arriving.

:11:39. > :11:44.This is the Vicky Holland group. And last time we looked at the end of

:11:45. > :11:48.lap eight, they wear one minute and seven seconds down. It will be more

:11:49. > :11:58.than that as they can the 40 kilometre bike stage with ten

:11:59. > :12:05.kilometres to run. A couple of seconds more. And a collision.

:12:06. > :12:12.Goodness me. A couple of athletes coming together.". Vicky Holland

:12:13. > :12:23.managed to avoid any of the shenanigans in transition there.

:12:24. > :12:31.Vicky Holland strides out of transition with Katie Zaferes. How

:12:32. > :12:34.much damage can they do now? Flora Duffy has supremacy in the race

:12:35. > :12:42.after being in close contact with Sophie Coldwell, she now takes it

:12:43. > :12:46.on. Flora Duffy, the world champion is leading round three of the 2017

:12:47. > :12:58.world triathlon series here in Japan. Zaferes, is third. Kirsten

:12:59. > :13:08.Kasper, Jessica Learmonth. Lucy Hall is in a top ten position now. Sophie

:13:09. > :13:13.Coldwell, coming round the bend. Has dropped around 15 seconds on Flora

:13:14. > :13:18.Duffy. Sophie Coldwell is going to need some determination and tenacity

:13:19. > :13:27.in the next three laps. She is about to finish the first lap of four. She

:13:28. > :13:33.still has visual contact with Flora Duffy. An hour and 29 minutes,

:13:34. > :13:39.almost 30 minutes since this began. Three laps to go. Flora Duffy is

:13:40. > :13:45.leading. Sophie Coldwell is second. Looks as if Katie Zaferes, who is

:13:46. > :13:50.still some way behind is in third position, the best of the Americans.

:13:51. > :13:54.Jessica Learmonth and Vicky Holland are battling it out and Lucy Hall,

:13:55. > :14:06.not far away from the first group of five.

:14:07. > :14:13.Alice better has had to take a 15 second penalty. Harsh penalty for

:14:14. > :14:18.not getting her swim goggles in the plastic box at the end of the swim.

:14:19. > :14:24.She is paying the price now. Zaferes and Kirsten Kasper one minute behind

:14:25. > :14:38.Flora That's quite amazing, coming into

:14:39. > :14:44.transition of the bike, Sophie Coldwell has pulled away even

:14:45. > :14:51.further, gaining about 20 seconds on the Chase pack which is phenomenal

:14:52. > :14:53.running. Not known yet for her tent kilometres running, inexperienced at

:14:54. > :14:59.this distance but Flora Duffy looking to meet to be as fit as

:15:00. > :15:04.ever. We'd wondered whether she would come into this event race

:15:05. > :15:07.rusty having not raced since November last year. She won the

:15:08. > :15:11.world title last year but firmly looking incredibly strong, 14

:15:12. > :15:18.seconds separating her and the British athlete. Non Stanford fell

:15:19. > :15:26.off her bike in the early stages of the 40 kilometres ride and has asked

:15:27. > :15:33.back, looking like she's determined to complete the competition today.

:15:34. > :15:40.Duffy seems to have moved into overdrive now. Steaming through. Her

:15:41. > :15:48.lead over Coldwell has been dramatically increased over the

:15:49. > :15:52.first half of the third lap, now gone up from 51 seconds at the end

:15:53. > :16:04.of lap two up to a minute and third team seconds. -- 13 seconds. That

:16:05. > :16:08.was Katie Zaferes stopping to collect something, what happened

:16:09. > :16:13.there? Looks like she stopped to pick up a gel, but I'd be surprised

:16:14. > :16:17.with over three kilometres to run, she would stop and pick up a gel

:16:18. > :16:21.because she doesn't need it, or whether it was her glasses. It was

:16:22. > :16:27.her glasses, they went down, she went back for them. Thought about

:16:28. > :16:30.it, went one way, they are expensive, those sunglasses, she

:16:31. > :16:32.decided she needed to keep hold of them but it might just have cost her

:16:33. > :16:46.a place on the podium. Duffy takes the bell, she is on her

:16:47. > :16:50.final lap. I do fear that Sophie Coldwell has lost quite a bit of

:16:51. > :16:54.time on that lap, we haven't seen any pictures of her properly on that

:16:55. > :16:59.third lap, there we go, we can just see her now, one of the American

:17:00. > :17:03.athletes Kirsten Kasper, running down Sophie Coldwell which is really

:17:04. > :17:08.disappointing for her. She's really got to keep the pace on, she will

:17:09. > :17:14.have Katie Zaferes not too far behind but Sophie Coldwell losing

:17:15. > :17:18.around a minute to these athletes. In two and a half kilometres, Sophie

:17:19. > :17:21.Coldwell fading fast but let's not forget, the first time she has

:17:22. > :17:26.raised the standard distance on the World Triathlon Series. Vicky

:17:27. > :17:31.Holland in our picture, great performance from Sophie Coldwell bob

:17:32. > :17:35.up moment looks like she will be run down by the American athletes and

:17:36. > :17:42.lose her podium place. Coldwell currently holding second, the 25 old

:17:43. > :17:51.American Kirsten Kasper looming large and approaching, she won't be

:17:52. > :17:55.too far off second place now. Katie Zaferes lost contact with Kirsten

:17:56. > :18:02.Kasper after she lost and wandered further to collect her sunglasses,

:18:03. > :18:09.she eventually did. She is back into her stride now. Getting closer to

:18:10. > :18:16.Coldwell and Coldwell about to loose on second position. Just has a

:18:17. > :18:20.rather forlorn plans to her left as she sees Kirsten Kasper go past and

:18:21. > :18:29.I don't think it will be long before Katie Zaferes and insult to injury

:18:30. > :18:34.and steals the last of the podium places away from Sophie Coldwell.

:18:35. > :18:41.Vicky Holland, meanwhile, is on her way to take the belt to signal her

:18:42. > :18:47.final lap. There is one lap to run, an awful lot can happen in this

:18:48. > :18:50.race, Zaferes joining Casper and moving past Coldwell who has been

:18:51. > :18:58.demoted all of the sudden to fourth position. At the end of that last

:18:59. > :19:02.lap, Non Stanford, we've just heard, moved into the top ten, remarkable

:19:03. > :19:06.fightback from Non Stanford having been down and out after quite a

:19:07. > :19:12.heavy fall on her bike. The way things stand we will have all five

:19:13. > :19:18.British triathletes in the top ten, let's all but finishes that way. On

:19:19. > :19:22.the final stretch, Flora Duffy from Bermuda, the defending world

:19:23. > :19:26.champion will make a triumphant return to the top echelons of

:19:27. > :19:32.Olympic distance triathlon with victory in round three of the 2017

:19:33. > :19:38.series. Sat out round one in Abu Dhabi. Which was one by Andrea

:19:39. > :19:41.Hewitt, Stewart did the double by taking the Gold Coast sprint race in

:19:42. > :19:48.round two but the World Championship is returned, she is returning to

:19:49. > :19:55.competition in triumphant style winning in around one hour and 56

:19:56. > :20:00.minutes, she accepts congratulations from the enthusiastic, drenched but

:20:01. > :20:07.enthusiastic Yokohama triathlon supporters here. Flora Duffy has got

:20:08. > :20:11.plenty of time to soak it all up, enjoy the moment and celebrate

:20:12. > :20:21.victory in Yokohama, the world champion is the champion in Japan!

:20:22. > :20:25.And our 56 minutes and 18 seconds. Zaferes would probably have been

:20:26. > :20:28.kicking herself at the sunglasses incident had cost her second place

:20:29. > :20:35.come ultimately it looks like it hasn't because she has been able to

:20:36. > :20:37.recover from that moment when she stopped at and wondered whether she

:20:38. > :20:43.was doing the right thing and forced her way back into second position.

:20:44. > :20:49.Will be two Americans on the podium in Yokohama, the win for Duffy is

:20:50. > :20:55.secure is, second place will go to Katie Zaferes who'd just about had

:20:56. > :21:06.the running legs necessary to defeat her campaign tree at. Kirsten

:21:07. > :21:10.Kasper. -- her campaign tree at. A personal best. For Kirsten Kasper.

:21:11. > :21:15.On the World Series podium for the first time. Who's going to finish

:21:16. > :21:23.fourth? Either way, it will be a best result, Sophie Coldwell. Up

:21:24. > :21:28.with the leaders for so much of this race, just unable to hold off the

:21:29. > :21:34.challenge of the two Americans but she's holding off Vicky Holland in

:21:35. > :21:37.full sprint down the blue carpet, Coldwell holding on to take fourth

:21:38. > :21:44.for Great Britain and Vicky Holland will be just the hind her in fifth,

:21:45. > :21:52.the two separated by a couple of seconds. Fourth and fifth for the

:21:53. > :21:56.two Brits, Coldwell and Holland, Ashleigh Gentle charging through the

:21:57. > :22:00.field, sixth this year to add to the two runner-up spots, Non Stanford

:22:01. > :22:06.next up crossed the line, despite falling from her bike, holding on to

:22:07. > :22:11.register seventh place. How tough with the conditions in this driving

:22:12. > :22:15.rain? It made every component pretty challenging, a lot of girls went

:22:16. > :22:21.down, the swim was rough, it was a matter of staying up and trying to

:22:22. > :22:26.be sparked? Was it Jessica Learmonth you went down with? She did, I tried

:22:27. > :22:29.to go to the left, that was the barrier, I went into the barrier and

:22:30. > :22:35.my chain fell off so I had to get that going again but I got up, I

:22:36. > :22:40.reattached by the end of the bike, it was good. We had the sunglasses

:22:41. > :22:43.scenario, we understand, if it was deemed intentional it would have

:22:44. > :22:48.been a penalty, were you covering your basis? Not intentional,

:22:49. > :22:54.covering bases, I went to go pick them up to make sure I didn't get a

:22:55. > :22:59.letter in penalty and I decided, getting third was better than a

:23:00. > :23:02.disqualification! It was worth it, I didn't know what I would have the

:23:03. > :23:08.time for today and honestly I was pretty nervous coming in to this

:23:09. > :23:11.race, I felt like a first timer. But you know, I had to keep reminding

:23:12. > :23:16.myself, you must race with confidence. The race worked out

:23:17. > :23:21.great to my strength, I'm super happy. Confirmation of the win for

:23:22. > :23:27.Flora Duffy by a record-breaking margin. One minute and 51 seconds.

:23:28. > :23:39.Coldwell with a personal best in fourth. Lucy Hall finishing 11th.

:23:40. > :23:44.Second place in the race today has taken Katie Zaferes to the top of

:23:45. > :23:49.the series ranking for 2017. Overtaking Andrea Hewitt, pushed

:23:50. > :23:58.down to second, Kirsten Kasper up into third. Victorious return to the

:23:59. > :24:04.top level. For the defending world champion Flora Duffy. She kick-start

:24:05. > :24:05.her campaign to win the world title for a second time with victory in

:24:06. > :24:14.Yokohama. Again, Annie, the conditions

:24:15. > :24:21.affecting this race but Flora Duffy was dominant right from the start,

:24:22. > :24:26.wasn't she? She raced really smart today, what she has got down to a

:24:27. > :24:31.fine art is what the Brownie brothers do, you ride hard, take a

:24:32. > :24:35.couple of risks to get a break, she can do that because she's good on

:24:36. > :24:40.the bike but her race was won 30 early on, in the early stages, but

:24:41. > :24:45.she put it out there on the line. Sophie Coldwell, fourth, raced hard

:24:46. > :24:49.and well, didn't she? She really did, her first standard distance

:24:50. > :24:53.race on the World Triathlon Series, she stepped up to the mark and I

:24:54. > :24:57.think there is a lot of pressure, probably would have been nervous

:24:58. > :25:03.going in but she swam well and took the opportunity. What a great race

:25:04. > :25:05.from her. Flora Duffy impressed with her riding, without Sophie Coldwell

:25:06. > :25:11.I don't think it would have aimed so easy for Flora Duffy. Duffy tweeted

:25:12. > :25:15.afterwards to say thank you for that, I loved racing with you. The

:25:16. > :25:21.British team had a strong field and it showed in the end, five out of

:25:22. > :25:24.the first 11 athletes. Amazing, what the British athletes are doing, just

:25:25. > :25:30.phenomenal. It makes me laugh, I look at Great Britain and think this

:25:31. > :25:35.cold, wet little island and we such brilliant athletes. Non Stanford the

:25:36. > :25:38.second fastest growing of the day, who knows what would've happened,

:25:39. > :25:42.certainly I think the race would have been her as if she hadn't come

:25:43. > :25:47.off the bike because she ran so well. Ashleigh Gentle with the

:25:48. > :25:53.fastest time, running from way back, Non Stanford had a great swim, so

:25:54. > :25:56.exciting for the British team. Vicky affected by this cap injury, she

:25:57. > :26:01.tweeted afterwards what has been going on. She's got a little niggle

:26:02. > :26:03.going on, I don't think she would have started the race if she thought

:26:04. > :26:08.racing would jeopardise the rest of the season, I think it's been tough,

:26:09. > :26:14.she hasn't been able to run for ten days, didn't get bad run up race at

:26:15. > :26:18.the World Cup in China prior to Yokohama and I think she's race

:26:19. > :26:23.rusty but I think she go away with this and said that's pretty

:26:24. > :26:28.positive. Fifth with a niggle, you can't argue with that? Andrea

:26:29. > :26:31.Hewitt, the conditions were tough. We saw her in new Plymouth in New

:26:32. > :26:39.Zealand World Cup race some weeks ago, the conditions worse so called

:26:40. > :26:43.and she is gutsy. And she was standing on the start line she

:26:44. > :26:49.looked so cold and I think she never got started. Should be disappointed,

:26:50. > :26:57.three races, two wins, not a bad place for the QB to be. That's round

:26:58. > :27:02.three over, next up it's in Leeds. Yes, this is the one we've been

:27:03. > :27:05.waiting for, round four of the World Triathlon Series and we hope you can

:27:06. > :27:10.join us. If you're interested in coming along there are still places

:27:11. > :27:14.available to buy in the grandstand in the centre of Leeds or if

:27:15. > :27:19.watching isn't enough, you can still compete, Terry as the deadline for

:27:20. > :27:24.all the mass participation races is this coming Wednesday, made the

:27:25. > :27:28.17th. All the details available on the pages of the World Triathlon

:27:37. > :27:43.BBC Two from 1pm until 6pm on Sunday June the 11th. Still to come this

:27:44. > :27:48.afternoon, rugby league on BBC Two, later we have basketball on the red

:27:49. > :27:54.button and there is live football on BBC five live. Annie, before we go,

:27:55. > :27:59.I'm really looking forward to Leeds, a great cause, what are you most

:28:00. > :28:03.looking forward to? The athletes going up the hill after the swim,

:28:04. > :28:07.it's brutal, fun to watch, not fun for the flights, it split up the

:28:08. > :28:11.packs coming out of the water but when they get into town, the crowds

:28:12. > :28:17.are just immense and it's great to see. To see triathlon in the UK like

:28:18. > :28:20.that with the support that's out there, second to none. It really

:28:21. > :28:24.should be quite an occasion, we are looking forward to it and hopefully

:28:25. > :28:28.you can join us then. Have a good day. Goodbye.
