0:00:33 > 0:00:41Hello, good evening and welcome to Snooker Extra extended highlights of

0:00:41 > 0:00:46the 2017 Betway snooker Championship. Graeme Dott beat Judd

0:00:46 > 0:00:56Trump take on the 2004 UK Champion, Stephen Maguire. Commentary from

0:00:56 > 0:01:00Dennis Taylor and Peter Ebdon.

0:01:07 > 0:01:15DENNIS TAYLOR: Graeme Dott gets it under way, all Scottish battle. A

0:01:15 > 0:01:19little bonus to go up behind the yellow. You're looking to put the

0:01:19 > 0:01:26cue ball near the cushion. Stephen twice across the table just to land

0:01:26 > 0:01:38in the left side of the reds. Hard to predict this one.It certainly

0:01:38 > 0:01:40is, Dennis. Good afternoon everyone.

0:01:55 > 0:02:06UMPIRE:Foul, and a miss. Graeme Dott four.DENNIS TAYLOR: First

0:02:06 > 0:02:11chance falls to Graeme Dott.

0:02:17 > 0:02:23We're down to the two table situation, and it's much better now

0:02:23 > 0:02:27because you've got the crowd at the side of the table as well. I always

0:02:27 > 0:02:39find that's better for the players. Graeme Dott, the way he played

0:02:39 > 0:02:46against Judd Trump from 2-0 down, it was stunning.

0:02:53 > 0:02:58Always difficult to judge that type of shot, when you're coming off the

0:02:58 > 0:03:06reds. It finished almost tight on the side cushion, which makes pink

0:03:06 > 0:03:23or black pretty difficult. Pink would be a slightly easier pot.

0:03:23 > 0:03:29PETER EBDON: With it slightly under the cushion, this is certainly no

0:03:29 > 0:03:34gimme. That was well cued, well played.

0:04:02 > 0:04:07Graeme Dott has been one of the toughest match players and

0:04:07 > 0:04:13competitors on the professional tour for more than two decades. And even

0:04:13 > 0:04:16if he's not at the very top of his game, he makes it really, really

0:04:16 > 0:04:29hard work for you. Such a great competitor. Great fighting spirit.

0:04:29 > 0:04:35There's a very good reason why he's been World Champion and made two

0:04:35 > 0:04:45other World finals.

0:04:50 > 0:04:58I think it has to be said Dennis, that Graeme actually loves the big

0:04:58 > 0:05:02stage. You know he's going to be well-prepared and you know that he's

0:05:02 > 0:05:08going to give it absolutely everything he's got.Of course these

0:05:08 > 0:05:14two players know each other so well, but Graeme has had the better of

0:05:14 > 0:05:19Stephen Maguire. They have played ten times and Graeme has won six of

0:05:19 > 0:05:25those.

0:05:31 > 0:05:39Didn't get into that one as he intended. So a bit of a problem now

0:05:39 > 0:05:42after this blue. APPLAUSE

0:05:49 > 0:05:55This is a little bit tougher than he would have hoped for.

0:06:01 > 0:06:06Not a bad start for Graeme Dott, and not a bad outcome after missing the

0:06:06 > 0:06:12red. It's gone safe. That always helps.

0:06:38 > 0:06:45Would have liked to see the cue ball travel another couple of inches, to

0:06:45 > 0:06:53be tight on the balk cushion. It's still a nice safety shot. If Graeme

0:06:53 > 0:06:59decides to play off the pack, it's going to need to be very thin.

0:06:59 > 0:07:05Doesn't want to catch the red that's on the left hand side cushion.

0:07:08 > 0:07:15That's very good. Well played. APPLAUS

0:07:27 > 0:07:31Stephen's got to be a little bit careful coming down the left side of

0:07:31 > 0:07:35the table. That red there, that's near the left side cushion, slightly

0:07:35 > 0:07:47in the way. That's why he played it thick.

0:08:05 > 0:08:20Did very well against Liang Wenbo to win that one on the deciding frame.

0:08:28 > 0:08:35Well, we awe all know that Stephen Maguire is a very aggressive player,

0:08:35 > 0:08:37a very attacking style. He looks fiercely determined there, doesn't

0:08:37 > 0:08:47he? This is a really good test of his cueing.

0:08:54 > 0:08:58Oh, that's an excellent pot, well played. Beautifully struck. Yes, if

0:08:58 > 0:09:03he sees half a chance, he's going to go for it. That's the way he's

0:09:03 > 0:09:05always played.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17Winner of five ranking titles. In fact, he should have won a lot more.

0:09:17 > 0:09:22I remember Ronnie O'Sullivan significant that he expected Stephen

0:09:22 > 0:09:29Maguire to go on and possibly dominate the game, but he had a few

0:09:29 > 0:09:35lean seasons, but he's still capable of beating anyone in the game.

0:09:50 > 0:09:55He's got five reds that are in good pottable positions. There are three

0:09:55 > 0:09:58that are awkward.

0:11:19 > 0:11:26Stephen will already be thinking about the awkward reds.

0:11:31 > 0:11:35Just plotting away to eventually leave himself in such a position

0:11:35 > 0:11:45that he can maybe cannon the two to the right of the table.

0:11:49 > 0:11:54And he gets that far, he will probably try to move the reds when

0:11:54 > 0:11:58potting a colour. He could leave a red and try to move them, but that's

0:11:58 > 0:12:01always risky. Can you run out of position, but we'll see very

0:12:01 > 0:12:04shortly.

0:12:11 > 0:12:15He was cueing there, he was thinking of leaving the white to pot the red

0:12:15 > 0:12:18to the right of the pink and cannon the two reds, but there's an element

0:12:18 > 0:12:20of risk with that.

0:12:27 > 0:12:31Now, let's see what he decides. If he tries to bring those two into

0:12:31 > 0:12:40play, the white could stick on the side cushion. That's what he's

0:12:40 > 0:12:48thinking about. He's five points in front. He had a quick look at the

0:12:48 > 0:12:52scoreboard. He knows he has to get the reds into play. Moving reds when

0:12:52 > 0:12:58potting a red is a little bit risky. That's what he's done. The white has

0:12:58 > 0:13:06come off the cushion a bit. So that's turned out OK. The pink won't

0:13:06 > 0:13:14go, I don't think, but the blue will. That's why he hit it so hard

0:13:14 > 0:13:20to make sure he came away from the cushion with the cue ball.

0:14:15 > 0:14:19Stephen has choices here. Just looking to leave a half-ball angle

0:14:19 > 0:14:24on the red to bring the red off the cushion and stay on the black, or

0:14:24 > 0:14:30pink into the right centre. But if he gets too straight on this red, he

0:14:30 > 0:14:41won't be able to play that. Will have to then drop in behind the red.

0:14:44 > 0:14:54Well, it's not ideal. I don't think he's too impressed with that.

0:15:01 > 0:15:11APPLAUSE So he needs to leave himself an

0:15:11 > 0:15:18angle on either black or pink here.

0:15:19 > 0:15:25It's OK. It's a little low.I don't think he can get close to that red

0:15:25 > 0:15:30that he looked at. He would love to just drop in about 18 inches, two

0:15:30 > 0:15:44feet, behind it. Yet, he's not too bad, looking at that angle.

0:15:45 > 0:15:50Just funny little shots these. He only needs this and another colour

0:15:50 > 0:15:56to secure the opening frame, or to leave Graham needing a snooker. It's

0:15:56 > 0:16:01finished a little bit awkward.

0:16:06 > 0:16:11Need to be careful when you're stretching like that. You could

0:16:11 > 0:16:22quite easily do yourself an injury.

0:16:25 > 0:16:29He's not comfortable fully stretched. So there's no way that he

0:16:29 > 0:16:33can get the rest head into position there. So he's going to have to

0:16:33 > 0:16:43stretch.

0:16:54 > 0:16:58He just can't get comfortable. He doesn't have to do anything with the

0:16:58 > 0:17:04cue ball, he's got to just drop the red in and he'll be the black. But

0:17:04 > 0:17:08it looks as if it's making his eyes water this shot. Graeme's smiling

0:17:08 > 0:17:18away to himself.

0:17:24 > 0:17:30APPLAUSE 26 the difference, just the black

0:17:30 > 0:17:31needed.

0:17:48 > 0:17:53That was interesting. Had he needed the yellow, he would have screwed

0:17:53 > 0:17:57right down the middle pocket and dropped on the yellow. He's just

0:17:57 > 0:18:05made absolutely sure of the black there.

0:18:09 > 0:18:15That's a magnificent effort. Created by a terrific opening pot. It should

0:18:15 > 0:18:17give him the opening frame.

0:18:24 > 0:18:31APPLAUSE Two four point snookers needed.

0:18:47 > 0:18:53As long as the white pulls up, as long as the white pulls up, he's OK.

0:18:53 > 0:19:06Had that of dropped in, it would have been a different story. Doesn't

0:19:06 > 0:19:12matter about the green, Graeme coming back to the table, but very

0:19:12 > 0:19:16little chance.

0:19:21 > 0:19:26He now needs three snookers. This might be one of them, if it doesn't

0:19:26 > 0:19:32hit the black. No. That's knocked the black safe. So even less chance

0:19:32 > 0:19:37of getting the snookers that's required now.

0:19:40 > 0:19:44APPLAUSE

0:20:20 > 0:20:25Some frames have been won with three snookers needed. Graeme is trying to

0:20:25 > 0:20:30knock Stephen out of his stride. That 70 odd break was per terrific.

0:20:30 > 0:20:35Fan tastic contribution. As you said, the opening red was just

0:20:35 > 0:20:40brilliant -- fantastic. Graeme's also taking the opportunity to try

0:20:40 > 0:20:50and get used to the speed of the table. You can't blame him for that.

0:20:50 > 0:20:54He will know he's very little hope of winning this frame. That green is

0:20:54 > 0:20:58going close to the pocket, which makes Graeme's job all the more

0:20:58 > 0:21:02difficult.

0:21:05 > 0:21:11Just the blue and pink to try and get the snooker behind. Being on

0:21:11 > 0:21:17their spots, they're not in the ideal place. You want the colours a

0:21:17 > 0:21:25bit nearer a cushion. That's a clever shot. He's a bit unlucky,

0:21:25 > 0:21:31just played to bring the black into play. He's left the brown.

0:22:02 > 0:22:09That's what you call a confidence booster. He's on the pink. He's

0:22:09 > 0:22:15right on it. He's touching. Foul shot. It doesn't matter. It was a

0:22:15 > 0:22:19very entertaining opening frame. Graeme Dott with a break of 335 and

0:22:19 > 0:22:24then Stephen Maguire, cracking opening red, made a break of 72. He

0:22:24 > 0:22:29leads 1-0.

0:22:32 > 0:22:34UMPIRE: Second frame, Stephen Maguire to

0:22:34 > 0:22:38break.

0:22:45 > 0:22:49Leading by 1-0. Very impressive in the first frame.

0:22:52 > 0:22:57Graeme Dott knows he needs to be on his game in this match.

0:23:02 > 0:23:06Not the best safety from Graeme. He will be a bit disappointed with

0:23:06 > 0:23:14that.Yeah, that a snooker player pet hate when you play a safety shot

0:23:14 > 0:23:19and you hit one of the balk colours. Straightaway, he was looking at that

0:23:19 > 0:23:24red into the left corner, but he's decided he's going to try and get

0:23:24 > 0:23:27the white down behind the green.

0:23:38 > 0:23:45That will do just as well. Might just be a gap between the yellow and

0:23:45 > 0:23:53blue to clip the reds. Just slide past the pink as well. There you see

0:23:53 > 0:23:59the gap.If Graeme plays this with with lots of left hand side there is

0:23:59 > 0:24:03a chance to get a cue ball behind the Green. Not if you play it that

0:24:03 > 0:24:08thin. That was a poor misjudgement. He was under pressure with that

0:24:08 > 0:24:16safety shot. Trying to reply to Stephen Maguire's excellent safety

0:24:16 > 0:24:22shot at his previous visit to the table.

0:24:32 > 0:24:42Didn't fancy the black. Did have the angle to try and move the black. But

0:24:42 > 0:24:49with the two reds in close-proximity to the black spot it was going to

0:24:49 > 0:24:55make things difficult for him.Yeah, I think his plan will be to pot the

0:24:55 > 0:25:00red, get on the blue again in such a way that he can then cannon into the

0:25:00 > 0:25:03pink and reds. He needs the pink in play with the

0:25:03 > 0:25:09black close to the cushion. I don't think that red, to the left, is

0:25:09 > 0:25:13preventing him from getting nicely on the blue.

0:25:17 > 0:25:22He couldn't have played that any better. So nice cannon on the pink

0:25:22 > 0:25:28here, he'll develop that and a few more reds.Just needs to be careful

0:25:28 > 0:25:32not to hit the right hand side of the pink though otherwise the cue

0:25:32 > 0:25:36will be travelling towards the right corner pocket. He'll be aware of

0:25:36 > 0:25:39that.

0:25:44 > 0:25:52Well, that's brought the black into play and the pink into play.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55And he can clear the black spot. That couldn't have worked any

0:25:55 > 0:26:00better. Absolutely perfect the way it's turned out. You never know how

0:26:00 > 0:26:06they're going to finish. You just play the shot and see what happens.

0:26:06 > 0:26:13Boy, they couldn't have finished much better than this.

0:26:56 > 0:26:58APPLAUSE

0:27:34 > 0:27:39APPLAUSE

0:27:58 > 0:28:02Stephen Maguire is a very fluent player. Plays with a really lovely

0:28:02 > 0:28:11pace around the table. Very aggressive, very attacking.

0:28:14 > 0:28:20When he's playing well, he's more than capable of making a barrage of

0:28:20 > 0:28:24breaks and you can find yourself sitting in your seat for long

0:28:24 > 0:28:29periods.

0:28:29 > 0:28:38Yes. A little bit of deja vu for Graeme Dott thchl is how the match

0:28:38 > 0:28:42started against Judd Trump. Never had much of a chance. We know what

0:28:42 > 0:28:51he did after that, he won six in a row with a brilliant performance.

0:28:55 > 0:28:59This is the sort of snooker this man was playing when he lifted this

0:28:59 > 0:29:03title in 2004. He was brilliant then.

0:29:39 > 0:29:49Not ideal here. Just off straight, if he plays for pace. He won't be

0:29:49 > 0:29:55very pleased with that, at all. He's going to have to go in and out of

0:29:55 > 0:30:00baulk Domino. Unless he decides to play for the red to the yellow

0:30:00 > 0:30:05pocket but I doubt that, because it is going to require very precise cue

0:30:05 > 0:30:12ball placement. That's what he's played. Not easy to get on this red.

0:30:12 > 0:30:23And that could be end of break.

0:30:40 > 0:30:45For all the world it looked as if he was going to make a big break there.

0:30:45 > 0:30:51A couple of shots ago, he didn't get on the black.

0:30:51 > 0:30:57APPLAUSE

0:31:14 > 0:31:23APPLAUSE Nice round of applause for that 57

0:31:23 > 0:31:35break but that shake of the head tells you that he wanted more. What

0:31:35 > 0:31:43has the pocket dynamo got in store for as here, Graeme Dott? He might

0:31:43 > 0:31:48have a go at this. It is one of those that, if it goes in, you've

0:31:48 > 0:31:56got a bit of a chance. He might be able to cut one in as well and

0:31:56 > 0:32:03possibly get the white background the table, but he's back to this

0:32:03 > 0:32:09long, just off straight red. He'd love to take it on. That's the one

0:32:09 > 0:32:15he's looking at, but he knows that if he takes it on it's got to go in

0:32:15 > 0:32:18otherwise he puts Stephen Wright in amongst them. Here we go. Bigshot,

0:32:18 > 0:32:32this. Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant. It is early in the match

0:32:32 > 0:32:45but there will not be many better shots than that, I can tell you.

0:33:08 > 0:33:16Can Graeme Dott steel himself here after that magnificent opening red?

0:33:16 > 0:33:21What a fantastic pot that was.

0:33:28 > 0:33:33There will be only one thing on his mind now. And that will be winning

0:33:33 > 0:33:43this frame at this visit.

0:34:12 > 0:34:19APPLAUSE

0:34:38 > 0:34:43That's the first slip up that Graham is made. You can still pot the red

0:34:43 > 0:34:47party didn't want to be anywhere near the cushion. Going on very

0:34:47 > 0:34:59nicely, though. All of our sudden he is left with a tricky one. Great

0:34:59 > 0:35:08cueing. The way he played against Judd Trump is the best I've seen

0:35:08 > 0:35:15Graeme Dott playing for many a year. And he has continued where he left

0:35:15 > 0:35:22off in that match but he's still got to keep it going here. This would be

0:35:22 > 0:35:34a great frame to pinch. One of Graeme's great strengths is that if

0:35:34 > 0:35:45he does win that position years more than capable of playing fantastic

0:35:45 > 0:35:48shots to keep the break going. And he may well have to do that after

0:35:48 > 0:35:57this blue. It's slightly on the wrong side. A great single ball

0:35:57 > 0:36:02potter, Graeme Dott, wonderful competitor. This requires really

0:36:02 > 0:36:07good cueing.

0:36:15 > 0:36:22There was a bit of pressure on that. Just a couple of shots ago when he

0:36:22 > 0:36:26got the wrong side of the blue he wanted to be closer to that red, but

0:36:26 > 0:36:41at least he hasn't put it on. But he may be in trouble, you would feel.

0:36:49 > 0:36:52There's that middle pocket in the way slightly for coming off the side

0:36:52 > 0:36:59cushion. Had to play it with a lot of side, and this is a free ball,

0:36:59 > 0:37:08unless the wind goes in. And even then -- unless the white goes in. I

0:37:08 > 0:37:16don't think it is a free ball. So, Stephen will just see if the white

0:37:16 > 0:37:23goes on the green spot, could he hit the road on both sides, and I don't

0:37:23 > 0:37:29think it is a free ball, so he has multiples here. He could have played

0:37:29 > 0:37:33the shot himself and snookered them again behind the green and maybe got

0:37:33 > 0:37:40a better snooker, because he was able to hit that, as she was telling

0:37:40 > 0:37:48the referee. And I do believe that Stephen Maguire could have played

0:37:48 > 0:37:56the shop and put him in a more difficult snooker. -- played the

0:37:56 > 0:38:02shot. REFEREE:Foul and is, Stephen

0:38:02 > 0:38:09Maguire, four.Referee decided to hold onto the cue ball, and I don't

0:38:09 > 0:38:18think Stephen could have played it from there.Nice to see lots of

0:38:18 > 0:38:25ladies involved in the game now as referees, all doing superb jobs.

0:38:25 > 0:38:38Taking the pink as his free ball. That would count as one point.

0:38:42 > 0:38:46He has a good angle on the black drop down onto a difficult red and

0:38:46 > 0:38:50if he doesn't drop nicely onto it, he can still play the snooker, as

0:38:50 > 0:39:03you can see. The Blackwood put on 30 in front with a possible 35 still on

0:39:03 > 0:39:13the table.

0:39:14 > 0:39:20He doesn't have too pot the black to play the snooker but that's what

0:39:20 > 0:39:34he's doing. Pushing the black near the cushion as well. Graeme has had

0:39:34 > 0:39:44a couple of goes at this escape. He needs a bit more left-hand side. And

0:39:44 > 0:39:54this time... There's always the possibility. Has she got the

0:39:54 > 0:40:03snooker? I think he has. You can tell by that smile off Stephen

0:40:03 > 0:40:09Maguire's.I think Stephen Maguire missed a trick, there. I think he

0:40:09 > 0:40:13would have been much better off putting the black and then playing

0:40:13 > 0:40:19the snooker, leaving the cue ball behind the green. Under the

0:40:19 > 0:40:22circumstances, he's played an excellent safety shot, there. Having

0:40:22 > 0:40:28a nice smile to himself, there are, Stephen Maguire. Graeme Dott will be

0:40:28 > 0:40:32delighted at the moment because he's still in the frame, but perhaps not,

0:40:32 > 0:40:42after that shot.

0:40:42 > 0:40:5023 in front. This red, anything from the brown upwards and no problem

0:40:50 > 0:41:10getting onto the blue, here. Blue or brown will do.

0:42:15 > 0:42:21With very good breaks of 57 and 72 it is Stephen Maguire who leads

0:42:21 > 0:42:27Graeme Dott 2-0.

0:42:49 > 0:42:59So, Stephen Maguire breaks off in frame four. Leading 3-0 and the --

0:42:59 > 0:43:10and looking very strong so far.

0:43:46 > 0:43:55Might just be able to see enough of the red. But is tight on the

0:43:55 > 0:43:59cushion. Looks as though the white will compost the blue and if he does

0:43:59 > 0:44:10pot that he could finish on the black. -- will come past the blue.

0:44:10 > 0:44:15And he has got the correct side of the blue. Great opening shot from

0:44:15 > 0:44:25Graeme Dott.

0:44:27 > 0:44:31Impressed with the character. He's certainly got plenty of that. He's

0:44:31 > 0:44:41proved that down the years.

0:44:56 > 0:45:05Graeme Dott isn't blessed with the same amount of cueing power as a lot

0:45:05 > 0:45:17of the top players, but he played that very nicely.

0:45:20 > 0:45:24Just let the cue ball run on a few inches further than he would have

0:45:24 > 0:45:37liked, there. And that has worked out very nicely. Well played.

0:45:37 > 0:45:45Awkward bridging but shouldn't be too much of a problem.

0:45:53 > 0:45:59Graeme will be looking to make a significant contribution here. He's

0:45:59 > 0:46:10left himself low on this next red. That is a little bit too straight.

0:46:10 > 0:46:17He could have left himself lower and he would have been able to stand

0:46:17 > 0:46:28into the pack. -- stun into. And that really wasn't a very good pack

0:46:28 > 0:46:40to go into. Might still be OK. The red, closest to the pink will go to

0:46:40 > 0:46:54the right centre. And there, you see it does, but only just.

0:47:07 > 0:47:14Well played. This is a good opportunity now. Another red over

0:47:14 > 0:47:24the right centre. Graeme could play a glancing blow for the cluster here

0:47:24 > 0:47:32if he chooses to. Decided against it. He has four resin the open to

0:47:32 > 0:47:43work with here. -- four reds in the open. This has been a very good

0:47:43 > 0:47:46contribution so far from Graeme Dott. It's a frame that he

0:47:46 > 0:47:56desperately needs.I talked about character at the start of this

0:47:56 > 0:48:10frame. This player has got plenty of that.

0:48:10 > 0:48:20The pink will get in nicely onto the left corner. -- will get him nicely

0:48:20 > 0:48:25onto the red for the left corner. He can score from that without having

0:48:25 > 0:48:37to play a cannon into the five reds.

0:48:43 > 0:48:47Has he got a slight angle to screw into that red that's next to the

0:48:47 > 0:48:57yellow? Maybe not. It has finished a little awkward, here. If it had have

0:48:57 > 0:49:01been straight he could have screwed back of the cushion and gone for the

0:49:01 > 0:49:04red next to the yellow but because of where his finish that is about

0:49:04 > 0:49:09the best he can do around about the blue, to leave, even then, a tricky

0:49:09 > 0:49:18red up into the left corner. So it's not safe just yet.

0:49:28 > 0:49:33He could have done with the cue ball running a bit further but he can put

0:49:33 > 0:49:36this on such a way that he plays a safety shot as well as the pot. If

0:49:36 > 0:49:44the red goes in you would feel that he has got the first frame on the

0:49:44 > 0:49:54board and Stephen Maguire will need snooker. Very well played, Graeme

0:49:54 > 0:50:05Dott. I think bottle's the word we're looking for. Peter, he's got

0:50:05 > 0:50:15plenty of that, hasn't he?He certainly has.Almost went in off,

0:50:15 > 0:50:21but barring snookers, a smiling Graeme Dott should go into the

0:50:21 > 0:50:28mid-session interval 3-1 behind.

0:50:39 > 0:50:52It's only one snooker that Stephen Maguire 's. -- Stephen requires.

0:50:52 > 0:51:08REFEREE:Touching ballif he pushed the black safe from here...The only

0:51:08 > 0:51:12problem with that is that Graeme might need a new set of stepladders

0:51:12 > 0:51:19to play that shop! -- that shot!

0:51:41 > 0:51:48APPLAUSE

0:52:30 > 0:52:36The other option, fair play to Stephen and to the referee, Peggy

0:52:36 > 0:52:43Li, smiles all round. There was a bit of noise coming from the other

0:52:43 > 0:52:46table in between frames. I'm not sure what that exchange was all

0:52:46 > 0:52:56about.

0:53:19 > 0:53:23I think it was the fact that he played for the brown, maybe you

0:53:23 > 0:53:26didn't realise that he had left himself needing two snookers,

0:53:26 > 0:53:36instead of just the one.

0:53:59 > 0:54:04This rate, another black and then he would have a good chance to get a

0:54:04 > 0:54:17snicker in behind the black of that red that is near the cushion.

0:54:23 > 0:54:32And they are not badly placed to get snookers. It is all about getting

0:54:32 > 0:54:40the cue ball in a good spot to get one of the couple of snookers that's

0:54:40 > 0:54:50required.

0:54:52 > 0:54:59He has overscrewed that. Feels as if he's had a big bounce off the side

0:54:59 > 0:55:09cushion, as well. May have no option now but to play the red down towards

0:55:09 > 0:55:13the brown and green and hopefully get the cue ball behind the black.

0:55:13 > 0:55:18Could go the other way, could cut the red then, just depends how he

0:55:18 > 0:55:33sees it. That is not a bad effort. That's a good shot. Well played.

0:55:33 > 0:55:37Should be able to escape from this. He can see enough of the cushion

0:55:37 > 0:55:46below the middle pocket to come off the cushion and hit that red. But as

0:55:46 > 0:55:51to give it care and attention here. Needs to be careful not to go in

0:55:51 > 0:55:59North.Well, due care and attention and you did call be possible in off,

0:55:59 > 0:56:15there. He wanted to be hitting that red a lot cooler. -- fuller. Seven

0:56:15 > 0:56:19the difference now with only one snooker needed. Not often you would

0:56:19 > 0:56:26lose a frame after losing -- after making a 70 break, but that is a

0:56:26 > 0:56:36possibility now.

0:56:42 > 0:56:46He can swerve the spot again he's got to be careful that he doesn't go

0:56:46 > 0:56:54in off the red. He might be able to hit it with a little trace of side,

0:56:54 > 0:57:02but watch the end. Well, that will put an end to that now. He ended up

0:57:02 > 0:57:11potting the red. That was amazing. He started really well, Stephen

0:57:11 > 0:57:17Maguire, taking the three opening frames. Doesn't matter about the

0:57:17 > 0:57:22yellow for Graeme Dott. It was a must win frame for Graeme Dott, he

0:57:22 > 0:57:28did it with the aid of a 70 break, he passes cheeks, he's off for the

0:57:28 > 0:57:37mid-session interval but he still trails, 3-1.

0:57:37 > 0:57:48REFEREE:Calm it down, thank you. Frame five, Graeme Dott to break.

0:57:48 > 0:57:52DENNIS TAYLOR: Whatever you do, don't hit the blue from the break

0:57:52 > 0:57:55off. He hasn't left anything. That's the last thing you want to do is

0:57:55 > 0:57:59catch the blue and knock it safe.

0:58:03 > 0:58:07A very entertaining four opening frames in this match.

0:58:18 > 0:58:22Oh, it being loos like he's left a gap through for this one that's gone

0:58:22 > 0:58:32near the right corner. -- looks. The blue being knocked off its spot.

0:58:32 > 0:58:40Stephen there just talking away to himself, as he does on occasions.

0:58:40 > 0:58:43Not easy to get on to a colour, though.

0:58:49 > 0:58:56If that white bounces, he's OK. There you see the result.

0:58:58 > 0:59:02I don't know if he can see enough of the one to take on to the left

0:59:02 > 0:59:06corner. I don't think he can. He's had a bit of a result there, has

0:59:06 > 0:59:08Graeme.

0:59:09 > 0:59:19Maybe he can see enough to take the pot on there.

0:59:19 > 0:59:24PETER EBDON:If he can, we know whatten aaggressive player Stephen

0:59:24 > 0:59:30Maguire is. Had he tried to stun round the black with a touch of left

0:59:30 > 0:59:33hand side and cannon into the red, which is approximately a foot to the

0:59:33 > 0:59:36right of the black. He may not be able to play it with enough space to

0:59:36 > 0:59:42be able to play that shot, especially if he has to bend the cue

0:59:42 > 0:59:46ball a little bit with left hand side. Can he pot the red and play

0:59:46 > 0:59:50the cannon?

0:59:55 > 1:00:00Well, he got the most important part of the shot. That's a very nice kiss

1:00:00 > 1:00:03on the yellow.

1:00:07 > 1:00:11Options of yellow with the rest, but almost certainly the brown. The reds

1:00:11 > 1:00:15are open, so he doesn't have to really play the aggressive shot into

1:00:15 > 1:00:18the pack.

1:00:37 > 1:00:41Just needs to be careful with his waist coat here in playing this

1:00:41 > 1:00:43shot.

1:00:48 > 1:01:11He's quite close to that. The referee, Peggy Lee was right there,

1:01:11 > 1:01:16eagle-eyed. Making sure that Stephen Maguire didn't foul the red with his

1:01:16 > 1:01:21waist coat.

1:01:54 > 1:02:02Bumped into Stephen's dad in the corridor there, Pat, down along with

1:02:02 > 1:02:09John, former Scottish player. They are here to support Stephen.

1:02:50 > 1:02:53As we mentioned, very aggressive player around the table and

1:02:53 > 1:02:58sometimes can look a bit angry. Away from the snooker table, you couldn't

1:02:58 > 1:03:00meet a nicer lad.

1:03:05 > 1:03:12We've seen in the past were sometimes the temperament, gives the

1:03:12 > 1:03:17table a good old crack with his knuckles, that's just to gee himself

1:03:17 > 1:03:25up. I remember when he first turned professional he used to play at

1:03:25 > 1:03:30Stephen Hendry's club in K Sterling Spencers, noening noer there. All

1:03:30 > 1:03:34the boys played there. I remember having a few hours practice session

1:03:34 > 1:03:39with Stephen when he first turned professional. I knew he was destined

1:03:39 > 1:03:44for big things.

1:04:22 > 1:04:26This is a good red to get out of the way. It's clearing the path for the

1:04:26 > 1:04:33one closest to it, for the opposite corner.

1:04:37 > 1:04:39Played to perfection.

1:04:49 > 1:04:55And this in turn when he pots this will clear the one next to it. Just

1:04:55 > 1:04:59has to concentrate a little bit harder. There's a little bit of

1:04:59 > 1:05:02movement and noise. You can hear the referee. They are

1:05:02 > 1:05:08coming back into the arena for the other match.

1:05:14 > 1:05:21Can't do much about this. You can have a little sleep, I suppose. Just

1:05:21 > 1:05:22concentrating there, trying to focus.

1:05:46 > 1:05:54He's took all the easy reds, now it become as little bit more difficult.

1:05:54 > 1:06:03Not that many pots away from securing this fifth frame.I'm sure

1:06:03 > 1:06:07Stephen would prefer to open the cluster, if he can. He doesn't want

1:06:07 > 1:06:12to be taking one of the reds along the cushion, he'd rather leave those

1:06:12 > 1:06:15there, an insurance policy.

1:06:20 > 1:06:24That looks just about perfect. Thats with a very well judged positional

1:06:24 > 1:06:35shot.-- that's.Should be able to play the pink into the corner,

1:06:35 > 1:06:45follow the cue ball through, play the cannon. It's like he's playing a

1:06:45 > 1:06:54hard stun shot. There's a red that goes in the middle.Yep. That was a

1:06:54 > 1:07:02bonus because if you play the cannon you can always run out of position.

1:07:06 > 1:07:13The black will put him 69 in front with just 67 remaining. So what a

1:07:13 > 1:07:20start for Stephen Maguire. He's come back from the mid-session interval

1:07:20 > 1:07:26and he's just carrying on where he left off. We had a break of 70 in

1:07:26 > 1:07:31the previous frame.

1:07:40 > 1:07:47Might be easy to make a century break, but he can relax now the

1:07:47 > 1:07:51frame is safe. Made 32 centuries last season. He's on 16 at the

1:07:51 > 1:07:55moment. 370 in his career.

1:08:07 > 1:08:14This has been a very well crafted break from Stephen Maguire.Very,

1:08:14 > 1:08:21very fluent player. Very, very high scorer. You feel that Graeme Dott is

1:08:21 > 1:08:33really going to need to step up now. When our MC introduces him he calls

1:08:33 > 1:08:39him - on fire, Stephen Maguire. That's the case at the moment.

1:08:43 > 1:08:49Has he got enough angle here to just stun in behind the red or bring it

1:08:49 > 1:08:57into play? Yes, slight angle. Just dropping in behind it. Going to need

1:08:57 > 1:09:01a little bit of assistance with the extended rest and the extension on

1:09:01 > 1:09:12his cue. He only needs the red for the century break.

1:09:26 > 1:09:38That's the 77th century in this year's Betway UK Championship.

1:09:38 > 1:09:40APPLAUSE A big generous round of applause for

1:09:40 > 1:09:45that century break.

1:09:50 > 1:09:55Now the break is still held by Michael White, a break of 142. It

1:09:55 > 1:10:01will take a little bit of beating that, £5,000 for the highest break.

1:10:01 > 1:10:08It's always a nice little Christmas present this time of the year.

1:10:18 > 1:10:23And this is the blue that Graeme Dott knocked into this position from

1:10:23 > 1:10:30the break off shot. It looked like we were going to have a bit of a

1:10:30 > 1:10:35scrappy frame when the blue went there. That's unlucky, but he won't

1:10:35 > 1:10:39be too concerned about. That what a superb effort from Stephen Maguire.

1:10:39 > 1:10:43He extends his lead. It's now 4-1.

1:11:24 > 1:11:39This is a tough shot. That was excellent. Very, very good.APPLAUSE

1:11:43 > 1:11:48A chance to get the black back on to the spot here and make a sizeable

1:11:48 > 1:11:53contribution. APPLAUSE

1:11:53 > 1:11:56Needs a good positional shot here.

1:12:04 > 1:12:10Now, that's very well controlled. Well played.We said it numerous

1:12:10 > 1:12:14times, he's such an aggressive player. If he sees half a chance,

1:12:14 > 1:12:21he'll go for it. He did it in one of the earlier frames. He had an easy

1:12:21 > 1:12:25safety shot, and he took it a very difficult red into the left corner,

1:12:25 > 1:12:28knocked it in and made 116.

1:12:31 > 1:12:37And he's done the same in this frame and there's a few more to follow

1:12:37 > 1:12:42here. The way the balls are situated.

1:14:32 > 1:14:38The blue off its spot is not helping the situation here. He's already

1:14:38 > 1:14:44potted five reds and five blacks.

1:14:49 > 1:14:52Heading up the other end of the table here.

1:15:08 > 1:15:11There's still three reds that are available to him.

1:15:22 > 1:15:26Didn't want to hit the knuckle of the middle pocket. He's still on a

1:15:26 > 1:15:30red, but if he misses that jaw of the middle pocket he would have been

1:15:30 > 1:15:33on a choice of three reds.

1:15:46 > 1:15:53That's the problem when you run slightly out of position, having to

1:15:53 > 1:15:57use the rest there and unintensional kiss onto the black.

1:16:00 > 1:16:05He's looking at the pink, but that looks very tight from this picture,

1:16:05 > 1:16:09but he must feel that he can see enough of it.

1:16:11 > 1:16:13Maybe not.

1:16:16 > 1:16:23A high valued colour safe wouldn't be a bad idea. There's no pot on.

1:16:23 > 1:16:24Protect his 45 point advantage.

1:16:26 > 1:16:28Just flick the pink onto the side cushion.

1:16:43 > 1:16:48REFEREE:Stephen Maguire 46.DENNIS TAYLOR: It's a useful advantage,

1:16:48 > 1:16:53especially with knocking the pink safe.

1:16:53 > 1:16:59PETER EBDON:Excellent contribution from Maguire mag there after potting

1:16:59 > 1:17:05the fantastic thin clip into the left hand back pocket. -- Stephen

1:17:05 > 1:17:10Maguire there after potting the fantastic thin clip into the left

1:17:10 > 1:17:15hand pocket. That hes a a good safety shot from Graeme Dott.

1:17:15 > 1:17:19Stephen Maguire showing signs of frustration in the last couple of

1:17:19 > 1:17:21frames, that's purely because he sets his standards so high, he wants

1:17:21 > 1:17:27to come to the table and clear the table every time he makes a visit.

1:17:33 > 1:17:37He can become very frustrated with imhadself at times if he's not

1:17:37 > 1:17:43performing to the highest of his capability. -- himself at times if

1:17:43 > 1:17:52he's not performing to the highest of his capabilities. Good safety

1:17:52 > 1:17:53shot.

1:17:56 > 1:18:01Graeme needs to be a little bit careful here that he doesn't collide

1:18:01 > 1:18:05with the black on the way back. I didn't think he could see that red

1:18:05 > 1:18:09from the commentary position here. He's played an excellent safety

1:18:09 > 1:18:14shot. APPLAUSE

1:18:24 > 1:18:28Once again, if Stephen decides to play the red to the left of the

1:18:28 > 1:18:32cluster of three, he needs to make a very thin contact there otherwise

1:18:32 > 1:18:37there's a very good chance of cannoning into the black. It looks

1:18:37 > 1:18:41as if he's playing this very, very thin and coming across the other

1:18:41 > 1:18:45sides of the reds here. This needs to be really thin.

1:18:46 > 1:18:50That was ant very good shot, to be perfectly honest. This is a chance

1:18:50 > 1:18:53for Graeme.

1:18:55 > 1:18:59-- wasn't a very good shot, to be perfectly honest. This is a chance

1:18:59 > 1:19:04for Graeme.

1:19:22 > 1:19:28F-he had been straighter, he Coe have screwed into those three reds

1:19:28 > 1:19:39and stayed on the red into the right corner.

1:20:04 > 1:20:09He's just checking this now. Not goed got too much angle. He's going

1:20:09 > 1:20:14to have to play with power to create an angle. Force an angle that's not

1:20:14 > 1:20:26there naturally. He's looking at the possibility of leaving a red into

1:20:26 > 1:20:29the yellow pocket after this black.

1:20:41 > 1:20:48This is a very tough shot. It will require excellent cueing.

1:20:58 > 1:21:02You can't quite tell if he'll leave a red into the right centre, if he

1:21:02 > 1:21:06does miss it. If he's not leaving a red into the right centre, it takes

1:21:06 > 1:21:12a little bit of pressure off this pot. Oh, he missed that by a long

1:21:12 > 1:21:19way. He will be very, very disappointed with that. And with

1:21:19 > 1:21:25Graeme holding his hand up to apologise, you'd think that one of

1:21:25 > 1:21:31these two reds doesn't go into the middle.

1:21:33 > 1:21:36It's very close.

1:21:48 > 1:21:54I think Stephen may be able to pot this red in the middle.

1:21:58 > 1:22:02It's very, very tight, that's why Graeme did hold his hand up. He

1:22:02 > 1:22:05didn't think it would pot. He thought the other red was going to

1:22:05 > 1:22:10free these two. It's very difficult when they are so close together. I

1:22:10 > 1:22:14mean, you could help to make the potting angle with playing the cue

1:22:14 > 1:22:20ball from the right hand side, just to straighten the red up. But of

1:22:20 > 1:22:27course he's at the stage were he has a nice advantage in this frame. He

1:22:27 > 1:22:32doesn't want to throw it away just playing a shot. But, well, here we

1:22:32 > 1:22:35go. This could be the frame winner.

1:22:57 > 1:23:02Just can't make his mind up as to whether it will go or not.

1:23:08 > 1:23:18Safety. Or does this red pass the blue? No, it didn't. But the cue

1:23:18 > 1:23:24ball is in behind the blue. Almost a snooker. I'm not sure if he can see

1:23:24 > 1:23:31enough of this red to the right of the black.

1:23:36 > 1:23:41Under the circumstances, that was an excellent choice of shot from

1:23:41 > 1:23:48Stephen Maguire. Keeping the pressure on Graeme Dott.

1:23:51 > 1:23:57I think the red into the right centre did go, actually. Because

1:23:57 > 1:24:03they are not set in a direct line towards the balk cushion. The top

1:24:03 > 1:24:09red of the two is actually slightly to the left. That was a good frefrt

1:24:09 > 1:24:22Graeme.REFEREE:Stephen Maguire four.

1:24:22 > 1:24:26PETER EBDON: There you see it. I think there's more than enough of

1:24:26 > 1:24:31that red, especially playing with a touch of right hand side to help the

1:24:31 > 1:24:32pot, as Dennis mentioned.

1:24:44 > 1:24:50Good shot.Yeah, just going back to that red, I think if he had of been

1:24:50 > 1:24:54able to roll it in, but the blue wasn't on its spot, so there was no

1:24:54 > 1:24:58point playing with the right hand side because he would have to screw

1:24:58 > 1:25:02back for the black. So that's the reason why he didn't try to make the

1:25:02 > 1:25:04angle.

1:25:21 > 1:25:30Well, that wasn't the best of shots there. I think Graeme can take a red

1:25:30 > 1:25:34into the left hand back pocket and swing the cue ball around the

1:25:34 > 1:25:35angles.

1:25:37 > 1:25:43Looks like he's going the other way. That as far too thick.

1:25:43 > 1:25:51APPLAUSE No, I think Graeme missed an

1:25:51 > 1:25:54opportunity there to take the red into the left corner, if the red had

1:25:54 > 1:25:59gone in he would have been on the blue into the green pocket.

1:26:04 > 1:26:07Stephen Maguire maybe attempting to put the black out of commission

1:26:07 > 1:26:09here.

1:26:49 > 1:26:53Another excellent safety shot from Graeme Dott. It's the second longest

1:26:53 > 1:26:59frame of the match so far. They have been pretty brisk most of the

1:26:59 > 1:27:04frames. 13 minutes, 14 minutes, 19 minutes, a couple of 20 minute

1:27:04 > 1:27:16frames. APPLAUSE Been some excellent break building

1:27:16 > 1:27:24and now we're seeing some terrific tactical play.Well, it's a tough

1:27:24 > 1:27:29shot, but I think Stephen can see enough of this red to potentially

1:27:29 > 1:27:33get the cue ball behind the blue. But he's playing a swerve shot,

1:27:33 > 1:27:35instead of clipping it thin.

1:27:50 > 1:28:01Graeme has the opportunity now to get the cue ball behind the blue.

1:28:01 > 1:28:08Very good effort, very good effort.

1:28:24 > 1:28:34APPLAUSE

1:28:35 > 1:28:39Excellent reply from Stephen Maguire.What a fantastic safety

1:28:39 > 1:28:50shot that was.

1:29:02 > 1:29:14Nearly forced the mistake from Graeme Dott.

1:29:14 > 1:29:17Stephen Maguire has an excellent opportunity now of getting the cue

1:29:17 > 1:29:24ball behind the blue. Looks as though he's taking this very

1:29:24 > 1:29:38difficult red on. That was a lot more difficult than it looked. Make

1:29:38 > 1:29:49sure he got a good cue ball, though.

1:30:15 > 1:30:21I think Stephen Maguire missed an opportunity to play a double into

1:30:21 > 1:30:28the centre and the onto the black, should he have gotten the red. That

1:30:28 > 1:30:33was a pool safety shot from Graeme. He feels that the got a massive

1:30:33 > 1:30:40bounce off the black cushion there. Either way, this is a very good

1:30:40 > 1:30:49chance now. That's a couple of times we've seen Graeme intimate that he's

1:30:49 > 1:30:59got a big bounce.

1:31:16 > 1:31:20Stephen can't really do anything other than just drop this black in.

1:31:20 > 1:31:31He's hampered by the red.

1:31:34 > 1:31:41That is quite a surprise. It is awkward cueing, but it's not that

1:31:41 > 1:31:50difficult.He had a quick look at the scoreboard and decided if I can

1:31:50 > 1:31:55push the yellow safe, keep the black awk ward, he's never going to win

1:31:55 > 1:32:06the frame the way they were sitting.

1:32:09 > 1:32:17He can see that with the two tables it comes into its own, the Barbican.

1:32:17 > 1:32:20When there are four tables the people at home watching might find

1:32:20 > 1:32:30it a little bit disconcerting.

1:32:45 > 1:32:51And that's another careless shot from Graeme. And he knows.

1:32:51 > 1:33:00REFEREE:Quiet as you can, please. Could drop 5-2 behind, and it is

1:33:00 > 1:33:14looking more and more likely that that is going to be the scenario.

1:33:14 > 1:33:20They are both fiercely competitive Scots, these two players. He didn't

1:33:20 > 1:33:38play a great shot there, Stephen. Going to knock the brown safe now.

1:33:44 > 1:33:56A chance for the cross table double here.

1:33:58 > 1:34:0835 the difference.

1:34:12 > 1:34:24He hasn't fluked it, surely? Well, that is a body blow and a half.

1:34:24 > 1:34:31REFEREE:Blue ball.

1:34:38 > 1:34:4236 the difference, and that could prove to be a crucial fluke for

1:34:42 > 1:34:52Stephen Maguire, there. He can only just hit and hope, and it doesn't

1:34:52 > 1:34:59look very good to me. You can't beat a bit of luck in any sport but that

1:34:59 > 1:35:07was a timely fluke for Stephen Maguire. You usually get it when you

1:35:07 > 1:35:11are playing well, and when you are struggling, the luck tends to go

1:35:11 > 1:35:19against you.

1:35:29 > 1:35:33Regardless of the fluke, the way he played this frame, knocking the

1:35:33 > 1:35:38yellow and brown safe, he got the black awkward, he was always in

1:35:38 > 1:35:44control.

1:36:03 > 1:36:15The double is on, here. Now the war, but he won't be too concerned about

1:36:15 > 1:36:23that. It was the early break of 46 the pack to pave the way for Stephen

1:36:23 > 1:36:27Maguire to extend his lead the 5-2, just one away from a place in the

1:36:27 > 1:36:34quarterfinal. REFEREE:Frame eight, Stephen

1:36:34 > 1:36:47Maguire to break. It is Stephen Maguire breaking off to start frame

1:36:47 > 1:36:54eight. It has been a very controlled performance so far from Stephen

1:36:54 > 1:36:59Maguire. He has been frustrated on two or three occasions. He has

1:36:59 > 1:37:09managed to contain and stay on top of his temperament. That's far more

1:37:09 > 1:37:21like it from Graeme Dott. Well played. Excellent shot.

1:37:40 > 1:37:48Looked a little bit anxious. Think that's just about OK. How to plate

1:37:48 > 1:38:01with a little trace of side, there. -- had to play it with. He needs to

1:38:01 > 1:38:07do what he did in the frame before the mid-session interval. Made a

1:38:07 > 1:38:22break of 70. What he would give to have a sizeable contribution here.

1:38:35 > 1:38:50That's OK.He's got a red into the centre. That sounded like a heavy

1:38:50 > 1:39:06contact. He would do well to reach this black, then, Dennis. He might

1:39:06 > 1:39:17have to stretch on. You don't often see the cue being held like that.

1:39:17 > 1:39:23That's frustrating, getting a heavy contact when you have got yourself

1:39:23 > 1:39:33in at the chance.

1:40:00 > 1:40:14This is a tough red into the centre, if Stephen decides to take this on.

1:40:18 > 1:40:36Well played. Excellent pot. That's OK on the blue.

1:40:37 > 1:40:42He should be able to leave himself either on a red into the right-hand

1:40:42 > 1:41:01black pocket all the white centre. -- or the right centre.

1:41:05 > 1:41:13Slightly thick into the pocket. Very difficult for him to do anything

1:41:13 > 1:41:16with the cue ball, being so close to the Cushing himself, the angle that

1:41:16 > 1:41:25he was on.There's a couple of rates, the Mike the plant in the

1:41:25 > 1:41:29middle. That one pots, but no position, the one to the middle puts

1:41:29 > 1:41:41him on to the blue. He's done his best to try to get on the right side

1:41:41 > 1:41:46of the blue, but he hasn't managed it. And he's back looking at the two

1:41:46 > 1:41:57writes to see if they are a plant. -- the two reds. He has got the

1:41:57 > 1:42:02other red as we could clearly see. What is coming up a little bit

1:42:02 > 1:42:17short. Back looking at the plant again. I don't think he can get to

1:42:17 > 1:42:22the angle of the plant from where he is but he can take the other red on

1:42:22 > 1:42:30as a free shot. Tuck it in and get on a baulk colour.

1:42:45 > 1:42:57Well played. And he has got a baulk colour. Full blooded for that. And

1:42:57 > 1:43:00there's a red at the back to the right of the bunch that is

1:43:00 > 1:43:10available.

1:43:11 > 1:43:23The pink and black are awkward.

1:43:26 > 1:43:31This time, he's got the correct side of the blue. So we can go and have

1:43:31 > 1:43:37another look at the plant. It's still not going to be easy, even if

1:43:37 > 1:43:42he gets onto the plant, because he would cannon into the reds and pink.

1:43:42 > 1:43:55He's got quite a bit to do here. It's what happens to the cue ball

1:43:55 > 1:44:03here, when he cannons into the reds and pink. The plant's not in a

1:44:03 > 1:44:09direct line. He's got to make it. Going just to the left jewel of the

1:44:09 > 1:44:14pocket, so he's got to compensate for that. Got the perfect picture,

1:44:14 > 1:44:30there. Well the reds move, and the pink stayed there! In fact he hit

1:44:30 > 1:44:38that too hard, in the end.

1:44:55 > 1:44:58That was an excellent shot from Stephen Maguire. Very well

1:44:58 > 1:45:09controlled. Waging an angle with the pace that he played the blue. --

1:45:09 > 1:45:10creating an angle.

1:45:22 > 1:45:33He still got quite a bit to do here.

1:45:40 > 1:45:44The screw with lots of left-hand side and he has played the cannon.

1:45:44 > 1:45:52What a shot that is. Fantastic shot. He's so aggressive and sometimes

1:45:52 > 1:45:57when he looks at the balls, he almost frightens the life out of

1:45:57 > 1:46:13them! He's such a competitor, a fierce competitor, Stephen Maguire.

1:46:13 > 1:46:16Shouldn't be a problem with the the left of the black. It's the other

1:46:16 > 1:46:22two that are either side of the table and close to the cushions.

1:46:22 > 1:46:27Just two pose in front at the moment. -- two points.

1:46:38 > 1:46:42And just the perfect angle to stand up and move the white between the

1:46:42 > 1:46:47red and black. -- stun up.

1:47:00 > 1:47:07He could have left the red slightly easier than this. Not Michael. He's

1:47:07 > 1:47:12just checking the scoreboard, the move the red to the right side you'd

1:47:12 > 1:47:16want to be doing about off the green.

1:47:33 > 1:47:43He's gone too far. The only way I can see him moving the red is taking

1:47:43 > 1:47:47the brown here, moving the right to the left side of the table. Just

1:47:47 > 1:47:59picking up the scoreboard, his 22 in front. And that at be 26. He's going

1:47:59 > 1:48:13to need both reds if he takes the brown. That was so careless. And

1:48:13 > 1:48:19look what the cue ball's finished. You just wasn't ready to take that

1:48:19 > 1:48:25shot. His concentration was all over the place. He wasn't sure what

1:48:25 > 1:48:29Shockey was going to play. He just got down and made a bit of a mess of

1:48:29 > 1:48:35it. -- wasn't sure what shocked he was going to play.

1:49:24 > 1:49:30It was amazing, that easy blue that Stephen Maguire missed. Look where

1:49:30 > 1:49:38it is common, on the side cushion. And leading by 22 points, that's

1:49:38 > 1:49:49certainly to his advantage, playing safe.

1:50:23 > 1:50:25Another quick glance at the scoreboard there before making his

1:50:25 > 1:50:31mind up. He knows that any more mistakes and he's out of this year's

1:50:31 > 1:50:39UK Championship. And he wants to take this on. This is a brave shot.

1:50:39 > 1:50:47Great shot!

1:51:06 > 1:51:11That's a bit confused, but at least he can play the snooker. He got a

1:51:11 > 1:51:23big bounce off the cushion but a nice little snooker will do.

1:51:48 > 1:51:55I don't know if there's enough room to sneak in behind the black, here.

1:51:55 > 1:52:03I'll tell you what. He's brought the blue into play, he's brought the

1:52:03 > 1:52:08black into play. OK, he's handed the above its two Stephen Maguire, but

1:52:08 > 1:52:17he's opened the frame up with that last shot. -- he's handed the

1:52:17 > 1:52:27advantage.

1:52:44 > 1:52:49That was an excellent safety shot from Graeme Dott. He's looking for

1:52:49 > 1:52:59the snooker behind the brown. Stephen's hoping to swerve this with

1:52:59 > 1:53:09lots of left-hand side. Good hit. And that's safe.

1:53:28 > 1:53:31It's who gets the best safety shot here that's going to gain the

1:53:31 > 1:53:44advantage. I do believe he took the double on, there, and the blue has

1:53:44 > 1:53:49come to his rescue because he thought himself, I can play the

1:53:49 > 1:53:56double and I'm on the black if goes in. Doesn't want to be hitting the

1:53:56 > 1:54:03blue year. One long straight pot and that might be Graeme Dott's last

1:54:03 > 1:54:10shot in this year's UK Championship. A little bit of pressure, but it's

1:54:10 > 1:54:23dead straight, almost. Mm. Isn't it amazing? That was frame ball. He's

1:54:23 > 1:54:29missed very few like that. He hasn't left an easy chance for Graeme but

1:54:29 > 1:54:38that will annoy Stephen. That was match over, if he had knocked that

1:54:38 > 1:54:47in.There's a couple of different ways Graeme could play this. Almost

1:54:47 > 1:54:50could play as a shock to nothing and leave the cue ball behind the green.

1:54:50 > 1:54:56He just went to point that there. If the red goes in he should be on the

1:54:56 > 1:54:59brown, if he misses the ready could snooker Stephen behind the green.

1:54:59 > 1:55:10This is what he's playing. The idea was good. The execution of it, not

1:55:10 > 1:55:18quite.It's just pressure at this stage, pressure on Graeme to stay in

1:55:18 > 1:55:28the tournament and pressure on Stephen to clinch the match. Has he

1:55:28 > 1:55:36played a good one here? It looks like it. It looks like it. He's got

1:55:36 > 1:55:40to hit this and somehow get it safe and has to rely on a bit of good

1:55:40 > 1:55:49fortune, here. It can go anywhere. And look what has happened. I don't

1:55:49 > 1:55:56think the blue's come to his rescue.

1:56:05 > 1:56:15Forcing the red in to get back up to the high value colours. If he takes

1:56:15 > 1:56:24the black, Graeme can only tie. He's not nicely on the black, and he's

1:56:24 > 1:56:30not nicely on pink or blue. That's quite incredible. Just about the

1:56:30 > 1:56:33worst shot he could have finished in, having played the shot that the

1:56:33 > 1:56:39plague. He's having a wry smile to himself. Very unfortunate for the

1:56:39 > 1:56:48cue ball to finish there. He can cut the blue into the middle pocket but

1:56:48 > 1:56:53Graeme knows that it will not be easy to hold for the yellow. It's

1:56:53 > 1:57:02quite a thin one. He needs the blue and yellow.

1:57:08 > 1:57:14That was about the best he could do. He's got a medium length pot as he

1:57:14 > 1:57:23checks the scoreboard. The yellow, to leave Graeme needing a snooker.

1:57:36 > 1:57:4427 ahead, 25 remaining, the green to make absolutely certain. This has

1:57:44 > 1:57:58been very solid performance from Stephen Maguire. Is on its way, is

1:57:58 > 1:58:05on its way, is right in the middle of the pocket. It was always going

1:58:05 > 1:58:11to be a tough match, they are very well matched, both of these players.

1:58:11 > 1:58:14But it was Stephen Maguire the got off to a flyer with the three

1:58:14 > 1:58:30opening frames. At 4-2, Graeme was sort of back in it. Good friends,

1:58:30 > 1:58:34but not on the table and in the end it was Stephen Maguire that was more

1:58:34 > 1:58:41consistent. It was a very entertaining match but at the end it

1:58:41 > 1:58:44is On Fire Stephen Maguire guest through to the quarterfinals, taking

1:58:44 > 1:58:55the match, 6-2. A fine win for Stephen Maguire history to the.

1:58:55 > 1:58:58That's it, join us for more action from York at
