:00:12. > :00:38.MUSIC PLAYS. MUSIC PLAYS Good evening.

:00:39. > :00:41.Quarterfinal day at the 2015 Betway 2015 championship and we have some

:00:42. > :00:44.cracking snooker to show you this evening. To tonight's two

:00:45. > :00:50.quarterfinal matches shortly but let's bring you right up to date

:00:51. > :00:58.with this afternoon's matches, with Marco Fu taking on Liang Wenbo.

:00:59. > :01:06.Liang accounted for Judd Trump in Round 3 and survived against Tom

:01:07. > :01:08.Ford yesterday had breaks of 106, 132 and 138 in the first three

:01:09. > :01:17.frames. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:01:18. > :01:22.The way he's cueing, this is superb. Well, it doesn't get much better

:01:23. > :01:35.than that. That was absolutely fantastic. Three of the best frames

:01:36. > :01:42.I have seen for many, many years. At 5-2 Liang was poised to close out

:01:43. > :01:50.the match but this missed pink offered Fu an unexpected lifeline.

:01:51. > :01:55.He's going for it and he's got it. World number 14, who knocked out

:01:56. > :02:01.Shaun Murphy in the previous found, levelled it at five-all. A KG final

:02:02. > :02:05.frame between two good frames eventually won by Liang, the world

:02:06. > :02:07.number 29 through to only his third ranking semifinal and his first here

:02:08. > :02:23.at the UK Championship. Yeah, Marco is a good friend and I

:02:24. > :02:28.just concentrate to play, enjoy to play. I play today is fantastic, the

:02:29. > :02:33.first season, the four frames, I make it to three centuries and the

:02:34. > :02:38.fourth century I make 49. I missed the red. I got very good chance to

:02:39. > :02:43.make four centuries. But Marco today gave me a lot of pressure. When I

:02:44. > :02:47.missed, he cleaned up and made me a lot of pressure, just tough game,

:02:48. > :02:52.yeah? Well, many congratulations to Liang. He really has been a breath

:02:53. > :02:56.of fresh air this week in York. And so to this afternoon's other

:02:57. > :03:01.quarterfinal match and what a cracker this was between Neil

:03:02. > :03:04.Robertson, the winner in 2013, and a the three-time UK champion John

:03:05. > :03:09.Higgins. Well, both men have been superb this week. It went right down

:03:10. > :03:13.to the wire. The final frame, despite Robertson leading 4-1 at one

:03:14. > :03:17.stage, also worth noting Higgins made his 600th century break in the

:03:18. > :03:22.first frame. We pick it up in the decider. Robertson on a break of

:03:23. > :03:47.nine. The eighth time they've gone to a final-frame decider.

:03:48. > :03:59.Getting closer and closer to the semifinal. And that, I don't think,

:04:00. > :04:07.has worked out. So it's not over just yet. One good split there and

:04:08. > :04:12.the match was over. But he's stuck somewhat in the reds there. Is there

:04:13. > :04:28.another twist in this deciding frame?

:04:29. > :04:39.He's not quite just finished yet. It's just a separate forward safety

:04:40. > :04:43.shot, you would feel, off the side cushion, in behind the green, tight

:04:44. > :04:50.on the cushion. It looks a natural to be able to play that shot. --

:04:51. > :04:56.it's just a straightforward safety shot, you would feel.

:04:57. > :05:02.I think if he got off that red off the side cushion, puts the white

:05:03. > :05:06.somewhere near the line, it will keep everything pretty safe. He's 53

:05:07. > :05:09.in front. He'd love to push a red safe but he might have to sacrifice

:05:10. > :05:36.that to get a good cue ball. If the pink goes off the red and

:05:37. > :05:41.knocks the other red in, is it a three-ball plant? He can't knock

:05:42. > :05:48.this red on to it at this stage. He can't attempt that. But... That's a

:05:49. > :05:54.pretty good return. APPLAUSE

:05:55. > :05:59.Super shot from John Higgins. Yeah, that was a possibility. It won't be

:06:00. > :06:02.after the next shot. But you'd have needed to have got yourself into a

:06:03. > :06:10.position to knock a red on to the pink to make the plant. But Neil's

:06:11. > :06:15.got the play-off. -- got to play off the red that's two from the pink.

:06:16. > :06:22.And that's another pretty good safety shot. If he misses the brown,

:06:23. > :06:30.it's a beauty. APPLAUSE

:06:31. > :06:46.Is there just a little bit sticking out here? Yeah.

:06:47. > :06:52.John was just going to look at this red when he goes to play it. He

:06:53. > :07:02.doesn't want to knock it over the right corner, obviously.

:07:03. > :07:12.STEPHEN HENDRY: That's a good safety shot.

:07:13. > :07:17.DENNIS TAYLOR: He might have to come off the side cushion and nestle on

:07:18. > :07:28.the red off the side pocket. There's no easy return to the safety area.

:07:29. > :07:56.That's the shot that's available to him, maybe not as close to the

:07:57. > :08:01.green, but... It might not be a bad thing to play the red next to the

:08:02. > :08:11.pink and bring it into play. As long as he can get a good cue ball and

:08:12. > :08:16.just open the pink up, just in case he does get a chance. He's got to

:08:17. > :08:32.find a good spot, though, for the cue ball.

:08:33. > :08:38.He could possibly play to get in behind the yellow off one of the

:08:39. > :08:57.other reds, but he would like that pink into play. The other possible

:08:58. > :09:01.shot would be off that red off the bottom cushion in towards the

:09:02. > :09:21.yellow, but that would leave the pink tied up. Yeah, that's got the

:09:22. > :09:30.pink in the open now. That's a pretty good cue ball. Unless...

:09:31. > :09:36.APPLAUSE I think the pink is -- I think the

:09:37. > :09:40.pic is blocking the path into the corner. Having said that, I think

:09:41. > :09:58.he'll have a go at this. I don't think he'll cannon the red that's

:09:59. > :10:01.near the left side of the table. He's just brought the yellow into a

:10:02. > :10:19.slightly better position. If John Higgins was to get a chance for a

:10:20. > :10:23.counterattack in this frame... APPLAUSE

:10:24. > :10:29.Well, that was a good kiss on the green. He's left himself a perfect

:10:30. > :10:38.angle to come back down the table. And what a chance.

:10:39. > :10:54.Oh... John Higgins - 1. Did that kick? I'm not sure whether he mishit

:10:55. > :10:58.it. He's having the cue ball cleaned. I think it did kick a

:10:59. > :11:05.little bit. That's unfortunate after the fantastic pot on the red. What a

:11:06. > :11:18.way to go out of this year's UK Championship, because he's 52 points

:11:19. > :11:32.behind. After such a fantastic quarterfinal, what a shame that it's

:11:33. > :11:36.decided on a heavy contact. He didn't react the way you would

:11:37. > :11:41.normally react if it was a kick. I think he'd be, you know, a lot more

:11:42. > :11:47.disgusted. I think he was really disappointed in himself. But that's

:11:48. > :11:49.possibly one of the worst positional shots Neil Robertson has played in

:11:50. > :11:57.this match. He's actually on nothing. Dear me. He's 59 in front.

:11:58. > :12:09.There's 59 possible points on the table. I mean, it's as if he just

:12:10. > :12:27.thought the pink was enough and that he'd won the match. He has now.

:12:28. > :12:32.APPLAUSE Well, only John will be able to tell

:12:33. > :12:43.us if he got a heavy contact on the green or he mishit it slightly but

:12:44. > :12:53.what a quarterfinal we've had here. John Higgins has made three century

:12:54. > :12:58.breaks, a 69 and a 66. And he's going to come out on the losing end.

:12:59. > :13:04.An amazing standard. But you've got to give it to this Australian. He

:13:05. > :13:13.played an unbelievable match against Steven Maguire and equally as good

:13:14. > :13:16.here. We've had everything in this quarterfinal, some brilliant

:13:17. > :13:21.tactical frames, and a lot of the frames won with one visit. It

:13:22. > :13:25.doesn't matter about the rest. John Higgins will come forward and

:13:26. > :13:31.congratulate him. Too would have graced any final, this match, and

:13:32. > :13:35.what a comeback from John Higgins. He was 4-1 down, 5-3 down and he

:13:36. > :13:37.took it to a decider. It's a very relieved Australian that goes

:13:38. > :13:42.through to the semifinal, winning the match six frames to five.

:13:43. > :13:45.The way I started off the match, to go 4-1 up, was similar to how I

:13:46. > :13:49.played yesterday. And, you know, John being the champion he is, he

:13:50. > :13:52.came back at me and, you know, froze me out the next couple of frames. I

:13:53. > :13:55.didn't even attempt to pot. The decider, you know, I think John will

:13:56. > :14:00.be disappointed because he had a couple of chances to get in and, um,

:14:01. > :14:04.we both made a couple of mistakes, but luckily for me, I made probably

:14:05. > :14:08.one less mistake than him. Neil Robertson is an unbelievable player.

:14:09. > :14:12.You can look at all the players down the years and whatever, Neil would

:14:13. > :14:17.rank with a lot of players, because the - the top ones, because he's a

:14:18. > :14:22.fabulous player. Great long ball and, as I said, he's been a top

:14:23. > :14:26.player for the last four or five years, good cuist. There's no reason

:14:27. > :14:30.for it to not continue for the next five or ten years. He's that good.

:14:31. > :14:34.I'm a little bit gutted I didn't put him under pressure at the start. But

:14:35. > :14:38.other than that, no complaints. As I said, the best man won. So Liang

:14:39. > :14:44.Wenbo, who was knocked out in the second round at the UK Championship

:14:45. > :14:48.last season, has made it to the semifinals, where he plays either

:14:49. > :14:51.Martin Gould or David Grace and Neil Robertson will play either Mark

:14:52. > :14:57.Selby or Matthew Selt. And it is time for us to see if Selt can cause

:14:58. > :15:00.another big upset here at this year's UK Championship in knocking

:15:01. > :15:06.out the much-fancied Mark Selby. We pick up the action in frame four.

:15:07. > :15:18.Selby leads by two frames to one. He's at the table, 35 points behind.

:15:19. > :15:25.JOHN VIRGO: Oh, wide. So Matthew Selt doesn't have to wait too long

:15:26. > :15:50.for his next opportunity to clinch the frame. It's here now.

:15:51. > :15:56.He played that very well. It's easy to underscrew or overscrew those. He

:15:57. > :16:08.played it to perfection. Inch-perfect.

:16:09. > :16:23.There's the barometer. 66 points required and he's already got 49 of

:16:24. > :16:32.them. Don't tell me he's not on the black. STEPHEN HENDRY: IT DOESN'T

:16:33. > :16:35.LOOK LIKE IT. UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN HE -- it doesn't look like it.

:16:36. > :16:40.Unfortunately, when he pots the pink, it will go to the brown spot

:16:41. > :16:45.and he's on a red, an easy red to the left corner. Yeah, just a little

:16:46. > :16:54.bit more pressure on the pink than there would normally have been.

:16:55. > :16:58.Matt's assuming that the pink doesn't go on the spot - and

:16:59. > :17:03.Stephen's right, it goes on the highest available, which is the

:17:04. > :17:11.brown spot. So he wants to mind his work here. It nearly went wrong from

:17:12. > :17:20.nowhere. Well... Mmm... You could feel it coming, couldn't you? Yeah,

:17:21. > :17:23.just... It's hard to explain. You just, you just feel when someone is

:17:24. > :17:27.around the table or when they get down to the shot, they just don't

:17:28. > :18:15.look settled. Well, this will hurt Matthew Selt.

:18:16. > :18:30.Yeah, you took the words right out of my mouth. As we look at it now,

:18:31. > :18:36.it would be an incredible clearance from this position. But the bad

:18:37. > :18:40.thing for Matthew Selt, as we've seen is that Matthew Selt may have

:18:41. > :18:49.an angle to take the red off the right-hand side cushion and leave

:18:50. > :18:58.himself on the other red. Here it goes...

:18:59. > :19:04.Ooh, just another roll as he knocked it on. It's one of those, isn't it?

:19:05. > :19:10.You have to drop it and hope gravity takes over when he gets to it. Can

:19:11. > :19:14.he nudge it out this time? That's the idea. That's the idea! Couldn't

:19:15. > :19:19.have played it better! Beautiful shot. Good chance, Stephen.

:19:20. > :19:27.APPLAUSE And now I think he can play for the

:19:28. > :19:32.red on the left cushion in the knowledge that if he's not on it

:19:33. > :19:37.properly, he's always on the red in the middle pocket. He'll be playing

:19:38. > :19:47.for the difficult red here. Oh, well, he didn't, which surprises

:19:48. > :19:51.me a little bit. He might not get the chance to get as close to that

:19:52. > :19:57.red again. He needs to play a good shot here to get a good position on

:19:58. > :20:01.the colour, or get a good angle on the colour, I should say. 20 points

:20:02. > :20:07.behind. Matthew Selt having to sit there now

:20:08. > :20:38.and suffer. He's got an angle to come up and

:20:39. > :20:51.nudge that red into play but this black is missable. Don't take your

:20:52. > :20:58.eyes off the pot. Good pot, but has he developed the red into a potable

:20:59. > :21:07.position? So just a safety? He'd like a snooker from it. Yeah, thin

:21:08. > :21:17.off the left-hand side of the red, try and get the cue ball behind the

:21:18. > :21:21.black. Too thick on the red, but I think he has still got the snooker

:21:22. > :21:25.with the blue and the pink, so it was a decent shot. From Matthew

:21:26. > :21:28.Selt's point of view, Mark Selby shouldn't even be in this frame. We

:21:29. > :21:35.should be in the interval by now. Yeah. And that's the problem when

:21:36. > :21:41.you miss when you're in. Now, he's had a look to see if he can come off

:21:42. > :21:48.the left-hand side and just miss the yellow. He's going to hit this --

:21:49. > :22:03.he's got to hit this red just right. He needs to get it safe.

:22:04. > :22:10.It's not safe. Just slightly in Matt's favour is the fact that the

:22:11. > :22:15.cue ball is nestled near the yellow. It makes it an awkward pot. If it's

:22:16. > :22:21.a natural just to pot it, then finish up on the black, then not

:22:22. > :22:26.that much of a problem for Mark Selby. Well, it wasn't natural. He

:22:27. > :22:31.was running into the black. But he'll settle for the little nudge.

:22:32. > :22:38.Of course, if he hadn't got the nudge, he'd have just played the

:22:39. > :22:42.snooker behind the black. The important point was pot the red.

:22:43. > :22:47.What chance he's got now and what a steal and what a blow to Matthew

:22:48. > :23:03.Selt's hopes here, if he can win this frame.

:23:04. > :23:10.The cue ball just stopped in time. I'm not sure if it passes the green

:23:11. > :23:16.to the brown corner. That's the shot he'd like to play. If not, he has to

:23:17. > :23:24.screw back for the green into its own pocket and touch the right-hand

:23:25. > :23:32.side. Well, he's favourite now. Yes. Just two points behind. He needs up

:23:33. > :23:36.to and including the pink, so he doesn't have any problem of getting

:23:37. > :23:44.from pink to black. This would be a steal. He's got more angle on the

:23:45. > :23:47.green than I thought, John. So unless the brown pots in the green

:23:48. > :24:02.pocket, it's not plain sailing yet. He can't stay for the brown in the

:24:03. > :24:17.same pocket here. From our view, it looks very tight to get on to the

:24:18. > :24:22.brown in the left corner. But it must go. He's played for it.

:24:23. > :24:26.What sort of angle has he got on the brown? Follow through off two

:24:27. > :24:35.cushions and the blue to the left centre. He needs to finish this side

:24:36. > :24:44.of the blue, black side. Anything but straight. Well, not the right

:24:45. > :24:49.side of the blue, but it's only a case of getting line and length as

:24:50. > :24:53.Matt Selt is sat in his chair reflecting on the easy red he missed

:24:54. > :24:57.when he was in with a chaps to win the frame and level the match. --

:24:58. > :25:00.with a chance to win the frame and level the match. But it looks now

:25:01. > :25:07.for all money that the mid-session interval is going to be 3-1.

:25:08. > :25:14.And that's the way it is so Mark Selby will be very pleased. Matt

:25:15. > :25:19.Selt has got a lot to think about in the interval, particularly when you

:25:20. > :25:24.lose a frame like that. Mark Selby is 3-1 ahead.

:25:25. > :25:28.Well, that was a key frame because the 2012 UK champion won the next

:25:29. > :25:32.three frames in just 45 minutes to book his place in a mouth-watering

:25:33. > :25:37.semifinal against Neil Robertson. And to think he was almost dumped

:25:38. > :25:40.out of the tournament in the early hours of Tuesday morning against

:25:41. > :25:45.Jamie Jones of Wales in Round 3. Here he is on the verge of yet

:25:46. > :25:49.another final. I thought I played OK in patches.

:25:50. > :25:54.Didn't really miss anything easy. Scored half OK when I got a chance.

:25:55. > :25:57.I think I made a few 60 breaks. I would have liked to have converted

:25:58. > :26:01.them into probably one or two centuries. Overall, happy with my

:26:02. > :26:05.performance. Apart from the Jamie game, which I was lucky to get

:26:06. > :26:08.through, I played well in the other four matches to get through. But,

:26:09. > :26:11.yeah, I'm highly confident going into the semifinal. It's going to be

:26:12. > :26:15.a tough game. Neil is probably playing the best of the tournament

:26:16. > :26:21.so far. I know I need to be on my A game. Congratulations to Mark Selby.

:26:22. > :26:24.Local lad David Grace from Leeds was telling us in the studio this week

:26:25. > :26:28.about his love of art and he certainly put himself in the picture

:26:29. > :26:32.this week for a possible place in the semifinal, with some outstanding

:26:33. > :26:36.snooker. He was up against Martin Gould. Do not understatement Gould

:26:37. > :26:40.because he reached the final of the Australian Open this season. Gould

:26:41. > :26:46.dominated the opening season, thanks to a break 125 in frame three and

:26:47. > :26:50.this 127 in frame five. Grace, ranked 81 in the world, has never

:26:51. > :26:56.beaten Gould. Their last meeting ended 4-1 to the man from London. He

:26:57. > :26:59.came so close to winning his first ranking title in Australia. They

:27:00. > :27:03.shared the next two frames. We'll pick up the action in frame eight.

:27:04. > :28:20.Gould to play, 25 points behind. If it wasn't straight, he may decide

:28:21. > :28:26.to go round the two cushions because the safety shot is tough.

:28:27. > :29:02.That's what he's done. I think he's got away with it.

:29:03. > :29:08.KEN DOHERTY: Well, that was the last thing he wanted, to kiss that black.

:29:09. > :29:11.Oh, my goodness. I think this pots, you know. Anywhere but hitting the

:29:12. > :29:33.black there full ball. He's nicely on the blue. WILLIE

:29:34. > :29:50.THORNE: Chance now to win frame and match. He's got a chance to go round

:29:51. > :29:55.the table to get on to the green. Six more pots for a place in

:29:56. > :30:00.tomorrow's Betway UK Championship. His heart will be beating. There's

:30:01. > :30:44.no doubt about that. He's never been this far before.

:30:45. > :30:46.The cue ball will be coming back towards this left-hand middle

:30:47. > :30:54.pocket. Watch the cue ball. Watch the cue

:30:55. > :31:01.ball! Watch the cue ball! Oh! Wow! Would you believe it? Martin Gould

:31:02. > :31:08.11. Well, the cue ball was always going that way I'm afraid. That was

:31:09. > :31:12.a poor shot. What a chance he's given David Grace now. For somebody

:31:13. > :31:17.with Martin's class, he just can't get... The natural angle is there.

:31:18. > :31:30.Why finish straight on the blue? Just make sure you're short.

:31:31. > :31:41.Well done, David Grace. He's pinched another one and kept this match

:31:42. > :31:44.alive. The only break of significance in this frame was a

:31:45. > :31:49.break of 38 but that won't worry David Grace and his supporters.

:31:50. > :31:51.Martin Gould will be kicking himself. David Grace wins another

:31:52. > :32:03.one! He closes to 5-3. Well, incredibly, Grace won the next

:32:04. > :32:07.two frames to force another final-frame decider, the third of

:32:08. > :32:13.the day. Grace is at the table on a break of 32, closing in on victory.

:32:14. > :32:25.Red to leave Martin Gould needing a snooker. It didn't sounded good. It

:32:26. > :32:46.sounded like a kick. Martin can't bear to watch. Oh! Would you believe

:32:47. > :33:04.it! Just the red required and... Oh... 61 points with 67 left on the

:33:05. > :33:14.table. Is there another twist? -- is there another twist in this story?

:33:15. > :33:19.Well, he's nicely on the blue. He's got to play one good cannon here.

:33:20. > :33:24.Play a slow cannon for the red to the left of the pink, and try and

:33:25. > :33:28.play it full ball? Or do you try and bring the other reds into play? Just

:33:29. > :33:39.try and pot the blue, Willie, and hope for a nice cannon. And he's got

:33:40. > :33:44.it. Martin Gould has not made a 25 or 30

:33:45. > :34:07.break in the last couple of frames. He's faced now with a chance of

:34:08. > :34:11.pinching it. -- finishing it. He tried to get back up for blue or

:34:12. > :34:15.pink. I'm surprised he didn't just stump for the black. This is tough

:34:16. > :34:19.but he's got a nice angle on the black if he pots it and it will

:34:20. > :34:25.certainly go into the two reds. Big shot, this. Oh! Great pot! Just

:34:26. > :34:29.missed the kiss on the red zblvenlt but there was a lot of pressure on

:34:30. > :34:41.that black. That was a fantastic pot.

:34:42. > :34:50.It's OK. The cue ball was -- I thought the cue ball was going to

:34:51. > :35:16.bounce too far up the table. He's got a nice angle on the black.

:35:17. > :35:23.He's brought one red into play. The other red might be open. He's come

:35:24. > :35:26.around to see if it is from the left-hand corner pocket. It doesn't

:35:27. > :35:32.look like it from the commentary position. He's going to have to pot

:35:33. > :35:47.the red, get on the blue or black, make one more good cannon and bring

:35:48. > :35:51.that blue into play. In some ways he was a little unlucky there to put

:35:52. > :35:56.the red on top of the pink. But if he can't bring this red into play,

:35:57. > :36:03.it's a very, very simple snooker. Yeah. He's too straight again on the

:36:04. > :36:22.black. So David Grace is going to get another chance. He has a choice

:36:23. > :36:26.here. The red, I'm sure, pots into the green pocket. Does he play the

:36:27. > :36:31.simple snooker? Or does he go all out and try and pot this red into

:36:32. > :36:46.the green pocket? It looks like he's shaping up to take the red on. Well,

:36:47. > :36:51.he's missed it but he's got second prize and David Grace will be

:36:52. > :36:55.relieved to get another chance here. 31 points the difference. 35 left on

:36:56. > :37:30.the table. He's got to miss the baulk colours

:37:31. > :37:36.with the red. That's gone past the middle. So who's going to win this

:37:37. > :37:40.safety battle? David Grace -- if David Grace wins the safety battle,

:37:41. > :37:47.he wins the match. If Martin Gould wins the safety battle, he still has

:37:48. > :38:09.to pot the remaining red, colour, and all the colours. Lovely shot.

:38:10. > :38:36.Very good. He's got a full-ball snooker on the red. Well, it was a

:38:37. > :38:40.good hit. All you're hoping for is that you get the red safe and that's

:38:41. > :38:45.all he's done. But, again, the cue ball up into the middle of the baulk

:38:46. > :39:02.cushion, you would have to say, up behind the brown, red somewhere near

:39:03. > :39:08.the blackspot, it looks a good line. Excellent shot.

:39:09. > :39:13.APPLAUSE Black may just be in the way for the

:39:14. > :39:17.swerve. I'm sure... You'd want to be a brave man to swerve through the

:39:18. > :39:21.black and blue there and around the brown. So, again, maybe the

:39:22. > :39:38.two-cushion escape and try and hit the back of this red. I'm not too

:39:39. > :39:42.sure, if he just goes past the middle pocket, whether he goes thin.

:39:43. > :39:47.Like you say, Ken, he wants to hit it from behind. I'm not too sure if

:39:48. > :39:51.he can see enough of the cushion past the middle pocket to hit it

:39:52. > :39:58.full. Yeah, it was always going to be thin. Foul and a miss. Actually,

:39:59. > :40:02.it's not too bad going into the middle pocket there because he could

:40:03. > :40:06.have easily left the free ball. He could have come back off the knuckle

:40:07. > :40:13.of the middle pocket and back towards the red. So he's seen the

:40:14. > :40:25.line. The first line doesn't work. He can readjust here but... You'd

:40:26. > :40:30.expect him to hit it this time. I'm not sure it's on, Ken. Well, it

:40:31. > :40:34.could be a free ball here. Foul and a miss. Martin Gould four. Free

:40:35. > :40:43.ball. Look where the cue ball has finished. I'd have it put back to

:40:44. > :40:46.where it was, not there. I don't think it's on, the previous shot. I

:40:47. > :40:51.suppose it's a little bit more difficult now but... Well, it's

:40:52. > :40:57.almost, in this way it's almost impossible to get this safe. Mmm,

:40:58. > :41:13.yeah, good thinking. He's got to go off one, two, possibly three or four

:41:14. > :41:17.cushions here. Oh, boy, this is real tension now for David Grace

:41:18. > :41:28.supporters. One shot away he was, when he was on the last red, to win

:41:29. > :41:40.the match. If he sticks this red up, Martin Gould could clear.

:41:41. > :41:44.Oh, that was so close. That's one of the times in snooker where I think

:41:45. > :41:47.the rule is not right. It is the rule but what the referee is saying,

:41:48. > :41:51.you've got to hit it, that was a hard snooker to hit and he missed it

:41:52. > :42:25.by a cigarette paper. This looks good. Oh! Wow. Foul and a

:42:26. > :42:28.miss. I thought it was going to hit the outside edge and another miss is

:42:29. > :43:04.called. Well, just take a little breather

:43:05. > :43:08.for yourself, David, because this is one of the most important frames and

:43:09. > :43:22.shots maybe that you're going to play in your career so far.

:43:23. > :43:50.Oh! Foul and a miss. Martin Gould 4. Well, how close was that? He was 31

:43:51. > :43:55.points ahead on the last red. The difference is only seven now. This

:43:56. > :44:01.looks better. Looks better. Oh! Foul. Martin Gould 4. No miss,

:44:02. > :44:10.though. Well, the referee hasn't called a miss this time. No miss.

:44:11. > :44:14.It's not a miss. Well, that's every credit to the referee there. Because

:44:15. > :44:18.six on the trot and that's very nice of Martin Gould to accept that

:44:19. > :44:23.decision. Every credit to Martin. I mean the rules are the rules but the

:44:24. > :44:26.referee has used his discretion there and I totally agree with him,

:44:27. > :44:30.even though I'd have agreed with him a little earlier than that. Well,

:44:31. > :44:34.absolutely. It's a brave call from the referee. I think in the

:44:35. > :44:49.situation, probably the right one. He may have got the cover here. I

:44:50. > :45:03.knew he was going to get the cover from where he was going to put the

:45:04. > :45:14.cue ball. So the drama still unfolds here in the Barbican Centre in York.

:45:15. > :45:28.I hope he doesn't hit this ball and goes in off him.

:45:29. > :45:32.How's his luck? He'll be pleased if he hasn't left a pot. Does the red

:45:33. > :45:47.pass the pink? It looks like it does. It clearly passes the pink.

:45:48. > :46:06.Great shot. It's in the heart of the pocket. Martin Gould has a chance

:46:07. > :46:12.now. It's gone a bit betwixt and between here. That was a sigh

:46:13. > :46:16.because he knows that normally this blue would be a certainty but this

:46:17. > :46:26.is not normal now. Would you take the blue on, Will, or the pink

:46:27. > :46:42.maybe? Well, a lot of players would. I'd have taken the black. If he was

:46:43. > :46:51.going to play a pot, he'd have to play the blue. The black was too

:46:52. > :47:07.tough. Well, a lot of David Grace supporters are getting excited and

:47:08. > :47:12.what a chance now he's left with. That's the first of the five he

:47:13. > :47:31.needs to -- five colours he needs to pot to win the frame and match. Just

:47:32. > :47:36.the awkward cueing over this black. Oh, great shot. That's the second of

:47:37. > :47:47.the five and that was a brilliant shot. Super shot that was. Brown and

:47:48. > :47:55.blue required for a place in the semifinals. He's on the blue. Well,

:47:56. > :48:00.this is remarkable. It really is remarkable what's happened in this

:48:01. > :48:08.match. Both players have had frame ball at their mercy. David Grace has

:48:09. > :48:21.been given a lifeline. And it's a lifeline that he's taken!

:48:22. > :48:30.You can believe this? The biggest win of his career.

:48:31. > :48:34.Very well played, David Grace! What a tremendous performance! 5-1

:48:35. > :48:39.behind. Martin Gould virtually had frame ball. He won five on the trot

:48:40. > :48:43.to get his place in the semifinal! Congratulations! A standing ovation

:48:44. > :48:51.from this packed crowd! David Grace in the semifinal of the Betway UK

:48:52. > :48:55.Championship. Very well done! He played fantastic in the middle of

:48:56. > :49:00.the match. He wasn't putting a foot wrong. I was sat in me chair and I

:49:01. > :49:04.thought there was no way back into this. But luckily enough, he missed

:49:05. > :49:08.and I managed to mop him up, did a good 50 to just nick a frame back,

:49:09. > :49:13.you know. I was happy that I weren't on me way home. I went to the toilet

:49:14. > :49:17.and said to myself, "Make him win it. Don't just give him it." And

:49:18. > :49:21.then, um, I think he was the next frame he was clearing up and he

:49:22. > :49:24.landed a little bit smelly on the brown and just things started to run

:49:25. > :49:30.against him and, yeah, just managed to scrape me way back into it. So

:49:31. > :49:35.David Grace becomes the lowest-ranked player to reach the

:49:36. > :49:40.semifinals of the UK Championship since Alan McManus in 1990. And Neil

:49:41. > :49:44.Robertson will play Mark Selby, a repeat of the 2013 final, which the

:49:45. > :49:47.Australian won. Quick look at the York Barbican. There were four

:49:48. > :49:50.tables, then there were two and now just the one as we get ready for the

:49:51. > :49:55.semifinals. Hazel will be back with live coverage at one o'clock on BBC
