:03:12. > :03:22.can now watch two single session matches over 11 frames. Judging by

:04:04. > :04:09.knocking in added break, it is quite easy to lose focus on your
:04:09. > :04:13.own game. Everyone plays on a television table. There are other
:04:13. > :04:18.players in the tournament who would probably be playing at the back in
:04:18. > :04:22.the cubicles. If you get to the venue, you should be playing on TV.
:04:22. > :04:26.In previous years you would have the first session wish felt flat
:04:26. > :04:30.because there was no result but with best of 11, you go out and you
:04:30. > :04:34.know there's going to be a result. I have enjoyed the best of 11
:04:34. > :04:38.format. It has been a success, the fact that so many people turned out
:04:38. > :04:41.to watch us, and part of that is because they are guaranteed to see
:04:41. > :04:46.a result,, and watch the snooker and somebody is going to win, and
:04:46. > :04:50.somebody is going to lose. listen to broadcast customers and
:04:50. > :04:56.sponsors. There are very tough times out their economic lives for
:04:56. > :05:06.everybody in Europe. And yet, we have bucked the trend. In two years,
:05:06. > :05:07.
:05:07. > :05:13.we have made some mistakes, yes, of Behind the reason for the changes,
:05:13. > :05:23.motivation. The same motivation that has shaped Nations and of an
:05:23. > :05:33.
:05:33. > :05:41.empire stash -- money. -- driven empires - money. MUSIC: Pink Floyd
:05:41. > :05:44.- Money. This year there will probably hit avoid $2.5 million
:05:44. > :05:50.coming in for international broadcasting of snooker. We have
:05:51. > :05:55.gone from it tournaments-20 events around the world. We have got a
:05:55. > :05:59.recession market and the crowd money has gone from 3.5 million, to
:05:59. > :06:05.7 million, and these are staggering figures for a game that was more of
:06:05. > :06:09.want. The that extra money is the result of a game that has gone
:06:10. > :06:14.global. The explosion of popularity in China no longer makes their
:06:14. > :06:18.planes but is still remarkable. Next season there will be more
:06:18. > :06:22.ranking tournaments on snooker's new frontier and will will the
:06:22. > :06:26.traditionalists might feel faint, the future of the game seems to be
:06:26. > :06:32.heading east. Those tournaments that we play in Asia in five years,
:06:32. > :06:38.there will be a lot of players from Asia, doing very well, hopefully,
:06:38. > :06:43.there will be three or four in the top 16 from Asia. The World
:06:43. > :06:49.Championships make the in China, in five years. The game is going to
:06:49. > :06:53.grow, worldwide. A demand in Asia is simply staggering. Next year we
:06:53. > :07:01.will end up with five or six ranking events in Asia, alone, and
:07:01. > :07:06.it could grow from there. China is now only half the story. This
:07:06. > :07:11.season has seen tournaments as far afield as Brazil and Australia, and
:07:12. > :07:17.in Europe, the snooker caravan has pulled up in Poland, Belgium and
:07:17. > :07:27.Germany. We have got talks going on in Turkey, Russia, Canada,
:07:27. > :07:32.Singapore, so we're looking at a More tournaments and more money -
:07:32. > :07:36.who could be unhappy? The answer is, quite a few people, because in this
:07:36. > :07:46.seemingly happy marriage between money and tournaments, there is
:07:46. > :07:49.after person, in the form of ranking points. -- a third person.
:07:49. > :07:52.In the good old days if you got your place in the top 16 you were
:07:52. > :07:56.there for the whole season and it was a passport to guaranteed prize
:07:56. > :08:00.money and a place in every tournament. But, these days, the
:08:00. > :08:05.only passport you get is the one that takes you on planes, trains
:08:05. > :08:11.and automobiles, to long-haul destinations and shorter trips in
:08:11. > :08:21.the UK and Europe, on the players to a championship, or P t sees as
:08:21. > :08:23.
:08:23. > :08:26.they are universally known. -- PTCs. This year in and were we had 14 of
:08:26. > :08:30.the top 16 and a host of battle- hardened professionals aiming to
:08:30. > :08:33.get enough points to get their place in the top echelon. We have
:08:33. > :08:39.got to change more of the structures were we give the top
:08:39. > :08:43.players too much protection. See them through to the semi- final
:08:43. > :08:47.stages, guaranteed so much money. We have got to take that away and
:08:47. > :08:52.create the hunger, spread the game globally and increase the prize
:08:52. > :08:55.money. My aim is to get a prize money up to 10 million town's
:08:55. > :09:01.minimum, and to have a snooker tournament somewhere in the world,
:09:01. > :09:11.every week. -- �10 million. Not all players are so enthusiastic about
:09:11. > :09:13.
:09:13. > :09:17.the scheduling and that prize money on PTCs. I enjoy the events, and
:09:17. > :09:23.like playing in them, I think they are great, but sometimes you go to
:09:23. > :09:29.them and do not get paid anything to stop it is not fun or when you
:09:29. > :09:32.get to the final and a coming away, making a couple of grand. For the
:09:32. > :09:36.Law players if the might of doing well, it shows in the way that the
:09:36. > :09:40.ranking system is being done whereas before you could have a
:09:40. > :09:45.good season and it would not show that much. The scheduling could be
:09:45. > :09:54.a bit better. Not every week, because quite often I don't get to
:09:54. > :10:01.see much of my family and friends. But this is my job. This week, in
:10:01. > :10:05.York, the morals of discontent turned into a one-man course of
:10:05. > :10:09.rebellion as Mark Allen fired a broadside at the barrier and
:10:09. > :10:14.Snooker's new world order. I spoke my mind and that is what players
:10:14. > :10:19.need to do more, because people have said what I said, but a
:10:19. > :10:23.amongst themselves but are not man enough to see it at the public and
:10:23. > :10:33.to John Moss. I have been criticised for swearing on TV at
:10:33. > :10:33.
:10:33. > :10:37.the press conference, -- 2 John list plus back. -- to journalists.
:10:37. > :10:41.But I stand by everything I said. Behind their headlines of
:10:41. > :10:44.showmanship were some serious issues. But going through establish
:10:44. > :10:51.diplomatic channels might have been more productive and less
:10:51. > :10:55.contentious. Mark Allen's comments were disappointing. They are on our
:10:55. > :11:00.main board and own 26% of World Snooker, so we have to listen to
:11:00. > :11:05.them, so the players company under Jason Ferguson's excellent
:11:05. > :11:08.leadership, we have regular meetings with players, so that we
:11:08. > :11:12.hear the views of the players before they make decisions. I can
:11:12. > :11:17.tell you that Mark Allen has never attended any of those meetings. So
:11:17. > :11:25.he does not feel strongly enough about it to take the trouble to put
:11:25. > :11:28.the point to his own association. So, what to make of it all? Your
:11:28. > :11:33.perspective probably depends on a number of factors, your age, your
:11:33. > :11:38.ranking position and your family commitments, amongst others. One
:11:38. > :11:42.thing is certain. The changes over the past two seizes amount to
:11:42. > :11:48.nothing less than a revolution in the structure of the game and if
:11:48. > :11:52.you fail to adapt to the new environment, your days are numbered.
:11:52. > :11:56.Very few people can fundamentally criticise the changes that have
:11:56. > :11:59.taken place, prize money is going through the roof, the number of
:11:59. > :12:03.championships has almost trebled and there is a great feeder system
:12:03. > :12:08.for young players to come through. But, as for the work load, there
:12:08. > :12:14.has been a lot of criticism about that. How many more tweaks are
:12:14. > :12:19.necessary to perfect this revolutionised system? I don't know,
:12:19. > :12:24.I haven't got a clue, but the history of the one is one where
:12:24. > :12:27.players were more or less paid to play, and if you are up there,
:12:27. > :12:31.whether you are having to speculate too much to accumulate, perhaps in
:12:31. > :12:34.the future you have to put your hand in your pocket a bit more if
:12:34. > :12:39.you want to be a snooker player, and from that perspective, times
:12:40. > :12:44.are changing. Is it a young hungry man's game these days, then?
:12:44. > :12:48.Absolutely, for someone like Judd Trump, a young, single guy with no
:12:48. > :12:52.commitments, place the could have the, hardly having to practise any
:12:52. > :12:56.more, it is fantastic, but for myself that is completely different.
:12:56. > :13:06.But I do think there are too many ranking points associated with the
:13:06. > :13:07.
:13:07. > :13:11.small tournaments of the PTCs. But it is a great time to be coming
:13:11. > :13:18.into snooker. He under pinning some of the concerns shared by Mark
:13:18. > :13:24.Allen last week was this idea of tinkering with other events, most
:13:24. > :13:28.notably the World Championships at the Crucible. Judd Trump said it
:13:28. > :13:33.would be a catastrophe if they tinkered with what he called "the
:13:34. > :13:37.supreme test of snooker". Do you think it means change? Looking at
:13:37. > :13:43.the last few tournaments at Sheffield, there is a case for may
:13:43. > :13:50.be changing the first and second rounds, to best-of- 10 frames in
:13:50. > :13:54.the first two rounds. The second round to be changed. But that is
:13:54. > :13:57.only a personal viewpoint. Other players might want to go straight
:13:57. > :14:01.to 25 frames. That is the only thing you tinker with but
:14:01. > :14:09.everything else, leave it well alone. Neil Robertson suggested the
:14:09. > :14:16.other day that the changes in the championship back from the dead,
:14:16. > :14:26.There is a view that if you look at the semi-finals of the World
:14:26. > :14:33.time for people to keep their case that every match takes one day.
:14:33. > :14:35.Look at Wimbledon, the best of five future it might cut down that the
:14:35. > :14:40.frames and the World Championship, but they don't think it will have a
:14:40. > :14:43.go like that, but it might be best of 19 all the way through. There is
:14:43. > :14:46.an argument that with the standard being so high among suppliers
:14:46. > :14:51.generally, by the time we get to the final, sometimes we have not
:14:51. > :14:55.had a top quality of their, as you might expect, because the players
:14:55. > :15:00.are punched run by the end. always run the risk of someone
:15:00. > :15:04.winning a session ever, and for you guys, that is no good, but the
:15:04. > :15:10.World Championship has to be the ultimate test. I would say don't
:15:10. > :15:15.tinker with that too much. Plenty of discussion on and off the table
