:00:53. > :01:00.MUSIC it is all I wanted to do as a young man, growing up. It feels

:01:00. > :01:10.brilliant. I am over the moon. We have had some hard years over the

:01:10. > :01:12.

:01:12. > :01:17.Good evening. This is a walk of fame in snooker. Down at the York

:01:17. > :01:22.Barbican Centre, it is a journey that all the players are making in

:01:22. > :01:29.the williamhill.com UK championship. Forgive me if I do not dance down

:01:29. > :01:33.the stairs. The remarkable Mark Davis and Mark Selby, for one of

:01:33. > :01:38.them it will be the last time they make this journey tonight. That is

:01:38. > :01:45.because we are at the semi-finals. A possible nine frames to be played

:01:45. > :01:55.tonight. But which will stay and which will go? Its it is Selby in

:01:55. > :01:57.

:01:57. > :02:07.control. If this is anything like last night we are in for a treat.

:02:07. > :02:16.

:02:16. > :02:26.What about that for a shot? Mark Selby opens his account and Leeds

:02:26. > :02:29.

:02:29. > :02:39.1-0. Well played, Mark Selby. the best possible start for Mark

:02:39. > :02:50.

:02:50. > :03:00.Mark Davis gets his first frame on the board. That is as good a shot

:03:00. > :03:14.

:03:14. > :03:24.And they have spread. Lovely. Mark Selby goes further ahead. It is now

:03:24. > :03:39.

:03:39. > :03:45.5-1. Mark Davis is back in it. Mark Selby, I think he will be well

:03:45. > :03:54.pleased with that session. He has taken it 6-2. But still all to play

:03:54. > :03:59.Indeed and Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis have taken this title 11

:03:59. > :04:04.times between them. How much would lock Mike -- Mark Selby like to

:04:04. > :04:13.join the you? What did you make of his performance? He was not at his

:04:13. > :04:19.best. I caught his long potting was super. Generally he was very solid.

:04:19. > :04:25.And you waited 21 years to get to a ranking semi-final and three come

:04:25. > :04:31.along in the same season. What part might that applied for Mark Davis?

:04:31. > :04:36.I think it raises the stakes. The one-table set-up is a tough

:04:36. > :04:39.atmosphere. And he had to fight against the possibility of too much

:04:39. > :04:44.excitement and possibly expectation that would be as far as he would go.

:04:45. > :04:49.Perhaps he will be better tonight. Terry Griffiths is in his corner.

:04:49. > :04:53.The help you for many years, Stephen Hendry. Give us an idea of

:04:53. > :04:58.the kind of things that he might have said to him before tonight's

:04:58. > :05:02.session. Just relax and enjoy it and play your natural game. He

:05:02. > :05:07.should think about how he has performed this week and he is not

:05:07. > :05:12.out of it. An epic performance and some epic comeback in this

:05:12. > :05:18.championship, not least from Mark Selby. And Shaun Murphy against Ali

:05:18. > :05:22.Carter. Could we get another one tonight? Obviously we could do. 40

:05:22. > :05:27.people in this room and watching on television, they would expect Mark

:05:27. > :05:33.Selby to get through without difficulty. But he has to

:05:33. > :05:38.capitalise on his lead and it is not easy. Did you know that we were

:05:38. > :05:44.guaranteed to the first all English final in this championship in 20

:05:44. > :05:51.years, I think it is. And who was in the last one? Jimmy White and a

:05:51. > :05:58.certain John Parrott! What a memory you have! I am with Ken Doherty and

:05:58. > :06:04.John Virgo. You are not averse to comebacks. Mark Davis has got it

:06:04. > :06:08.all to do. But we have seen great comebacks already. Mark Selby

:06:08. > :06:12.against Shaun Murphy last night. He has to get off to a good start. If

:06:12. > :06:18.he does not you would have to say it is difficult and he could be out

:06:18. > :06:24.of stock but the beauty about snooker is --. But the beauty about

:06:24. > :06:30.snooker is taking one frame at a time will stop take each one as it

:06:30. > :06:39.comes --. Take each one as it comes. A what will his approach be

:06:39. > :06:46.tonight? Is it all about this first frame? I think the problem is that

:06:46. > :06:52.he is in a new environment. He was a bit tentative. But look at what

:06:52. > :06:58.happened in the eight frames. What he has got to do when he makes a

:06:58. > :07:07.mistake is make the most of it. He needs a good start and he meets

:07:07. > :07:11.three of the first four. -- he needs. Good evening. Saturday night

:07:11. > :07:17.in York and this is the last session of snooker but for

:07:17. > :07:23.tomorrow's final. Shaun Murphy is there. Who is going to join him? We

:07:23. > :07:28.can find out now. A quiet it has had the most memorable week of his

:07:28. > :07:33.21 year career. He has not out John Higgins and former winner, Matthew

:07:33. > :07:43.Stevens. Can he mowed a comeback on this, the biggest match of his

:07:43. > :08:12.

:08:13. > :08:17.life? Give him a big reception. The And his opponent, one of the most

:08:17. > :08:22.colourful characters, the circuit. Ski stage a dramatic comeback

:08:22. > :08:27.against Ryan Day and Neil Robertson. He is on the verge of what would be

:08:28. > :08:37.his first UK Championship final. A double Masters champion. Give it up

:08:38. > :09:01.

:09:01. > :09:10.for the Jester from Leicester, Mark We have met the players and the

:09:10. > :09:20.commentators. We are in good hands. JOHN VIRGO: Thank you. We are all

:09:20. > :09:25.

:09:26. > :09:34.set. Mark Davis will try to claw back. As we said just before, but

:09:34. > :09:44.first four frames are so important. Literally, he has to play snooker

:09:44. > :09:45.

:09:45. > :09:51.Absolutely. As we said this week, Mark Selby has made some fantastic

:09:51. > :09:58.comeback. Mark Davis got a wonderful reception when he came

:09:59. > :10:08.downstairs. They have seen a good few frames tonight, the audience

:10:09. > :10:14.

:10:14. > :10:24.I do not think he has reached the top of his game this week but he is

:10:24. > :10:35.

:10:35. > :10:45.He is looking at this red. These are the kind of pots that he needs

:10:45. > :10:50.

:10:50. > :10:55.He played it with an element of safety. He played it in such a way

:10:55. > :11:02.that he thought the only red he could have left was the one he was

:11:02. > :11:12.playing. That is all right but he is not that good on the blue.

:11:12. > :11:17.

:11:17. > :11:24.will give him a lift, getting shots The angle on this red, he does not

:11:24. > :11:34.have the angle to take it on to the black. He might be able to get it

:11:34. > :11:46.

:11:46. > :11:53.off the top cushion. He has got to Well, that is not too bad. He did

:11:53. > :12:03.not get on to the top cushion but have a look at that. A nice little

:12:03. > :12:10.

:12:10. > :12:16.You have got to play well and hope for a little bit of help from your

:12:16. > :12:26.opponent. But he had a nice run there and he will be hoping that

:12:26. > :12:35.

:12:35. > :12:40.He has knocked the red above it into a safe position. The only one

:12:40. > :12:50.he can go for is the one at the top. Will that get into the bottom

:12:50. > :13:02.

:13:02. > :13:08.Heavy contact and he has taken the pace out of the cue ball. The red

:13:08. > :13:15.does pot into the right-hand corner pocket. This will be a tough shot

:13:15. > :13:25.if he decides to take it. I do not know if he would be tempted this

:13:25. > :13:29.

:13:29. > :13:39.time. I do not blame him for not playing it. The original red would

:13:39. > :13:42.

:13:43. > :13:52.This is tough. Excellent pot. And he has got a good angle on the blue.

:13:53. > :14:03.

:14:03. > :14:12.He could not have played that any Well, that is incredible. He hit

:14:12. > :14:19.that with tremendous power. Just missed the pink on the way down. If

:14:19. > :14:29.he hit that it would have been perfect. I am sure he would have

:14:29. > :14:58.

:14:58. > :15:06.knocked a couple of reds into play. He has left a touching ball. He has

:15:06. > :15:16.to play a wave. But the problem is that red near the green is causing

:15:16. > :15:16.

:15:16. > :15:23.a few problems. If he can cover that red just above it, that would

:15:23. > :15:33.be the ideal position. I think he can play the top cushion at the

:15:33. > :15:39.

:15:39. > :15:48.He has played the containing safety. I thought it might have been

:15:48. > :15:53.possible to put more pressure on Mark Selby with that safety. There

:15:53. > :16:03.are two ways of climate. You can play a bit more aggressive or go

:16:03. > :16:15.

:16:15. > :16:25.into your shell. -- ways of He was looking at the red below the

:16:25. > :16:35.pink to see if he would be leaving anything. He has left, possibly,

:16:35. > :16:35.

:16:35. > :17:31.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

:17:31. > :17:35.Not the best safety and we have got a red on to the left middle. A bit

:17:35. > :17:45.of pressure on it. But he has got to take these opportunities when

:17:45. > :17:57.

:17:57. > :18:02.I think that red might be a possibility for Mark Selby. A bit

:18:02. > :18:10.more difficult than it was for Mark Davis. He can be a bit more

:18:10. > :18:20.adventurous. It seems to me from the style of this game that maybe

:18:20. > :18:22.

:18:22. > :18:32.keep it tight and do not take any risks. These reds into left centre

:18:32. > :18:38.

:18:38. > :18:44.are a lot easier when you are 60 a He has gifted a great opportunity

:18:44. > :18:50.for Mark Davis. And that should fill him with a bit of confidence

:18:50. > :18:58.because that was a dreadful safety shot. You have got to jump on these

:18:58. > :19:04.mistakes. Make the most of this now. A nice and easy starter. But black

:19:04. > :19:14.is available and the reds are nicely spread. He has just got to

:19:14. > :19:37.

:19:37. > :19:47.That did not go into the heart of the pocket but he will not mind. He

:19:47. > :20:13.

:20:14. > :20:19.has to get his blue on the spot. He has got a nice angle on the blue

:20:19. > :20:23.to come down to these reds and start playing for the black. That

:20:23. > :20:33.is where you score heaviest. He has got a great chance and he must take

:20:33. > :20:33.

:20:33. > :21:14.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

:21:14. > :21:24.Would you believe it? He wanted to That is not the best shot Mark

:21:24. > :21:33.

:21:33. > :21:43.Selby has ever played. He is a bit How costly well that red before

:21:43. > :21:46.

:21:46. > :21:49.Mark Davis? These are the situation as Mark Selby can excel in. It will

:21:49. > :21:59.be a dent to his confidence and he needed his confidence to be high.

:21:59. > :22:32.

:22:32. > :22:40.He needed it to get back into this He might try and get into a

:22:40. > :22:49.position where he has got a choice of reds. He would love to get on to

:22:49. > :22:59.that red next to the pink. If he can get right behind it... It is

:22:59. > :23:37.

:23:37. > :23:47.That mistake from Mark Davis. He would not have missed many of them

:23:47. > :23:50.

:23:50. > :24:00.this week. That flew will put him two a head. -- that Blue will put

:24:00. > :24:25.

:24:25. > :24:35.He has not hit that very well. He will be disappointed. That was a

:24:35. > :24:48.

:24:48. > :24:58.poor shot. It is not a formality He is able to roll back in and hold

:24:58. > :25:05.

:25:05. > :25:15.the cue ball. The yellow will come He had a little problem but it

:25:15. > :25:28.

:25:29. > :25:38.He will not have to worry about any difficult shots from brown to look.

:25:39. > :25:45.

:25:45. > :25:55.That was flying off the side cushion. But it has just about

:25:55. > :26:18.

:26:18. > :26:28.stopped. This will put him 21 in One snooker needed. Not impossible

:26:28. > :26:32.

:26:32. > :26:42.just yet. Normally at the way to play this would be to try and get

:26:42. > :26:44.

:26:44. > :26:49.tight in behind the black. Not a bad line. Not bad. It might come to

:26:49. > :26:59.his help as well. He has got the snooker but it does not look that

:26:59. > :27:00.

:27:00. > :27:10.difficult to hit. Not when you can get tied up behind the ball. --

:27:10. > :27:38.

:27:38. > :27:48.He wasn't guaranteed to get the snooker. And if not, the main

:27:48. > :28:00.

:28:00. > :28:06.He has hit that thinner than intended. With that pink close to

:28:06. > :28:16.the black... Maybe it is worth trying to get the cue ball as far

:28:16. > :28:52.

:28:52. > :29:02.down this end of the table as he In goes the blue. That will keep

:29:02. > :29:02.

:29:02. > :29:06.Mark Davis in his chair. He will be very disappointed. He has conceded.

:29:06. > :29:12.But he knows he had a great chance to take that opening frame. The

:29:12. > :29:18.task just gets harder. Just a couple of frames away from a place

:29:18. > :29:23.couple of frames away from a place in the final, leading 7-2.

:29:23. > :29:29.started off with real gusto as we might expect but undone by a very

:29:29. > :29:34.bad mistake. They would have been sat in the dressing room and the

:29:34. > :29:40.hotel thinking, I have just won that first frame. And look at this.

:29:40. > :29:47.Unforgivable. That is possibly his last chance to win this match even

:29:47. > :29:52.there. Do you see that the same way? He got in first and started

:29:52. > :30:02.scoring and they were all open and it was a chance. It was going his

:30:02. > :30:02.

:30:02. > :30:08.way. You can get behind in a match and you are never the same. It is

:30:08. > :30:14.going to be very heart. Especially against a player that does not give

:30:14. > :30:20.you much. And also as we have already said, this is his first big

:30:20. > :30:24.semi-final in Great Britain will start he has reached semi-finals --.

:30:24. > :30:30.He has reached semi-finals in China and Australia but he must be

:30:30. > :30:31.getting nervous. There is no getting away from it. But everybody

:30:31. > :30:39.getting away from it. But everybody has to go through this some time

:30:39. > :30:46.but stuck he has got to take --. He has got to take something from best.

:30:46. > :30:56.His game is improving all the time. But there is still hope. Mark Selby

:30:56. > :31:03.

:31:03. > :31:10.COMMENTATOR: Mark Selby has broken off. Mark Davis has got a couple of

:31:10. > :31:20.chances. He can't get through to the potting angle because of the

:31:20. > :31:35.

:31:35. > :31:39.It has just come up the cushion from the corner pocket. It makes

:31:39. > :31:49.the pot a bit more difficult but he has left this one into the left

:31:49. > :32:26.

:32:26. > :32:36.corner pocket. I am sure the black That was an excellent pot. Tight.

:32:36. > :32:48.

:32:48. > :32:58.The black never touched the sides. He struck the black with a

:32:58. > :32:58.

:32:58. > :33:43.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

:33:43. > :33:53.tremendous amount of confidence. He The top spin he employed helped to

:33:53. > :33:55.

:33:55. > :34:05.arc it. It arrived too late and the cue ball went off as well. The are

:34:05. > :34:28.

:34:28. > :34:38.caused just a little bit too late. Lovely behind the yellow.

:34:38. > :34:54.

:34:54. > :35:04.You can get to the side cushion just before the right centre pocket

:35:04. > :35:04.

:35:04. > :35:54.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

:35:54. > :36:01.but it is very tricky. There are a He needed a bit of luck there. He

:36:01. > :36:11.got a little bit. Not much. I do not think he has left the pot on

:36:11. > :36:15.

:36:15. > :36:21.Would you believe it? I did not think he could see enough of it and

:36:21. > :36:25.he has it too much of it! Unbelievable how you can do that.

:36:25. > :36:35.He maybe played with a trace of side to try to turn it over but he

:40:56. > :41:06.angle on the blue but he has only got to roll it in for a straight

:41:06. > :41:28.

:41:28. > :41:38.That was the key shot of the frame. Potting that red and leaving a nice

:42:04. > :42:14.was going to win the frame. He needed that black and one more

:42:14. > :42:29.

:42:29. > :42:39.An uncharacteristic miss from Mark Selby has gifted the frame, you

:42:39. > :42:46.

:42:46. > :42:56.A clever shot, bringing the other two reds into play. He played it

:42:56. > :43:14.

:43:14. > :43:24.There is a little bit of pressure on this. He only needs the red but

:43:24. > :43:28.

:43:28. > :43:35.he has missed a couple of balls But safely in this time. He needed

:43:35. > :43:38.a couple of chances. Maybe he was fortunate to get this last one. I

:43:38. > :43:48.said that he needed to play well and needed a bit of help from his

:43:48. > :43:48.

:43:48. > :44:34.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

:44:34. > :44:36.There is no way Mark Selby is going to come to the table but the

:44:36. > :44:43.gentlemanly conduct is that you do not concede when your opponent is

:44:43. > :44:47.at the table. The green has not come in but it does not matter. I

:44:47. > :44:51.think both players wish to get on with the next frame. Mark Davis

:44:51. > :44:58.missed his opportunity in the first frame this evening but did not miss

:44:58. > :45:08.that one. He needed a few chances but he took it in the end. He is

:45:08. > :45:11.hanging on in there but still He was lucky to get that extra

:45:11. > :45:16.chance at the end after missing the black off the spot but just signs -

:45:16. > :45:22.and I don't know why because you can't say lack of concentration

:45:22. > :45:27.because Mark Selby is too experienced for that - but a couple

:45:28. > :45:32.of surprise misses. He had to use a bit of side on this one but this

:45:32. > :45:42.was even more surprising. He had a great chance to steal the frame but

:45:42. > :45:45.

:45:45. > :45:55.He will be very disappointed to at not taking those opportunities.

:45:55. > :45:55.

:46:38. > :46:42.Mark Selby was in first in that A terrific opening red. It needed

:46:42. > :46:52.to stop short of the baulk line to be good on the colour and it did
