0:00:33 > 0:00:36Hello a very good evening to you and welcome back to the Barbican Centre

0:00:36 > 0:00:44in York. Its quarter finals night of the 2017 Betway UK Championship, and

0:00:44 > 0:00:49to dight, one of the's troubled winners take on an underdog who

0:00:49 > 0:00:55knows all about snooker's long and winding road.I don't need to win to

0:00:55 > 0:01:02pay a bill. I can just play and, if you scrape me off the table, if I

0:01:02 > 0:01:05get beaten, it ain't because I was under pressure, it's just because I

0:01:05 > 0:01:15wasn't good enough on the day.I'm a couple of shots, here or there, from

0:01:15 > 0:01:18playing really clinical, one visit snooker. If I can that, I could be

0:01:18 > 0:01:28dangerous. -- if I can sort that, I could be dangerous.Victory in the

0:01:28 > 0:01:32Northern Irish open last season has changed Mark King. He now knows how

0:01:32 > 0:01:36to win, he knows he can do it, and that makes him a completely

0:01:36 > 0:01:40different animal, as far as snooker goes. We've all known for a long

0:01:40 > 0:01:45time he was a potential winner, now he is a winner.Obviously, winning

0:01:45 > 0:01:48northern Ireland was a kick-start after so many years of trying. You

0:01:48 > 0:01:55can't comprehend how much it meant after so many years of trying and

0:01:55 > 0:02:01thinking, you know, it's never going to happen. And finally doing it. You

0:02:01 > 0:02:07couldn't write it. It was absolutely fantastic. I don't think you can go

0:02:07 > 0:02:11into these matches with a preconceived idea. You go out, play

0:02:11 > 0:02:15the game as you see it, it would be a shot anyone if come out and

0:02:15 > 0:02:20attack. I've been doing it so long. You just have to hope you make less

0:02:20 > 0:02:23mistakes than the other guy. If I can make if you less unforced errors

0:02:23 > 0:02:29than he does, I've got half a chance.Tonight, and all England

0:02:29 > 0:02:34clash as world mother six Shaun Murphy, of the 20 18th UK title,

0:02:34 > 0:02:38taking on John King, who knocked out market gains in the last round. And

0:02:38 > 0:02:45Wales's Ryan Day, ranked 19, taking on Mark Joyce, who saw off Neil

0:02:45 > 0:02:50Robertson in the fourth round, one of the shots of what has been a

0:02:50 > 0:02:52fascinating UK Championship. I'm delighted to say Alan McManus is

0:02:52 > 0:02:58alongside us. Those shocks, will they continue tonight, do you think?

0:02:58 > 0:03:03I think there is a very good chance of. Shaun Murphy is in good form but

0:03:03 > 0:03:07he'll have to cut out the little mistakes he made in the last round.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11Mark King in the last year is a completely different proposition

0:03:11 > 0:03:14than he has been probably throughout his whole career. He works hard,

0:03:14 > 0:03:22he's dedicated.He is a real competitor, he showed that fighting

0:03:22 > 0:03:27spirit against Higgins.Absolutely, and I don't think that the Mark King

0:03:27 > 0:03:32of five or ten years ago could have won that much. I think that is how

0:03:32 > 0:03:34fastly his game has come on. Mentally, I think he's improved as

0:03:34 > 0:03:41well, which is important.In his post-match interviews, he was

0:03:41 > 0:03:43brilliant. Let's look at this afternoon's results. Ronnie

0:03:43 > 0:03:51O'Sullivan beat Martin Gould. Same scoreline, Stephen Maguire against

0:03:51 > 0:03:53Joe Perry, so they meet in tomorrow's semifinal, and you can

0:03:53 > 0:03:59watch that on the BBC, live from York. Ronnie O'Sullivan, pretty

0:03:59 > 0:04:05comfortable after the scare last night.It was a good performance.

0:04:05 > 0:04:10Early on, Martin Gould gave him too many free chances, and you can't do

0:04:10 > 0:04:13that with him. His general form is good. Steve Davis said yesterday he

0:04:13 > 0:04:21is probably the only guy in the field who will win...And Stephen

0:04:21 > 0:04:26Maguire, there is something about him.I think he's got the eye of the

0:04:26 > 0:04:30tiger about him. He's been watching other guys lifting some trophies in

0:04:30 > 0:04:34the last year or so and I think he's pretty envious and he wants to be in

0:04:34 > 0:04:39amongst it.That'll be a fascinating match. Let's take a quick look at

0:04:39 > 0:04:47the head-to-heads it 8-1 in terms of matches but surely you can't read

0:04:47 > 0:04:51anything into this tonight, given that against Higgins it was 18-3 in

0:04:51 > 0:04:57Higgins's Weber.Mark King will not have that in his head. He will not

0:04:57 > 0:05:02even know about that score. It's all on tonight, and Mark King, always

0:05:02 > 0:05:06remember he is a different player and he was in the past. When we

0:05:06 > 0:05:11spoke to Shaun Murphy yesterday, I asked him whether the top seeds that

0:05:11 > 0:05:14are left in the drawer have any fear, given that we've lost so many

0:05:14 > 0:05:22of them. Will that play on his mind? Not at all, the top seeds take care

0:05:22 > 0:05:26of their own business, they don't even look at the draw. They just

0:05:26 > 0:05:31think, why my playing next, who am I playing, that's my game, I'll

0:05:31 > 0:05:34concentrate on that. I think that Shaun Murphy is getting the ball as

0:05:34 > 0:05:38well as he has ever done and he just asked to cut out some mistakes, but

0:05:38 > 0:05:45Mark King will make it difficult for him. -- he just has to cut out.Good

0:05:45 > 0:05:49evening, ladies and gentlemen, it's Friday night, we are in York and

0:05:49 > 0:05:54this is the second session of quarterfinal action in this year's

0:05:54 > 0:05:58Betway UK Championship. Another rocking night of entertainment is

0:05:58 > 0:06:04guaranteed, here at the Barbican. CHEERING

0:06:13 > 0:06:16Please welcome a player enjoying the best season of his career so far.

0:06:16 > 0:06:24This is his third quarterfinal of the current campaign and his first

0:06:24 > 0:06:29in the UK Championship since 2010. In one of the biggest matches of his

0:06:29 > 0:06:32life, bidding for his first appearance in a ranking event

0:06:32 > 0:06:36semifinal, there comes Mark Joyce!

0:06:43 > 0:06:52And his opponent, coming through two tense decider against Li Hang and

0:06:52 > 0:06:56his compatriot, Mark Williams, to make his first appearance in a UK

0:06:56 > 0:06:59court of final, winner of the Masters at the start of this season,

0:06:59 > 0:07:06it's Ryan Dynamite Day.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22On table one, a player returning to the UK quarterfinals for the first

0:07:22 > 0:07:29time in 13 years after that superb victory over John Higgins, coming

0:07:29 > 0:07:34from 4-2 down. Northern Ireland open winner in dramatic fashion last

0:07:34 > 0:07:38year, snooker's modern day tally Savalas. Who loves you, baby bastion

0:07:38 > 0:07:52mark mark Kojak -- who loves you, baby? Mark Kojak King.

0:08:00 > 0:08:05And, yes, it's cherry flavoured, just as he requested, and his

0:08:05 > 0:08:11opponent, a class act on and off the baize, bidding for a seventh UK

0:08:11 > 0:08:16semifinal, fine form this season, he's been in three finals, and he

0:08:16 > 0:08:22became champion of champions last month. He is a world, UK and Masters

0:08:22 > 0:08:30winner, it's Shaun the Magician Murphy.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40We are with you live on BBC Two until 8pm, and then we switched to

0:08:40 > 0:08:45the red button. If you want Ryan Day against Mark Joyce on table two in

0:08:45 > 0:08:48the company of Peter Ebdon and Dennis Taylor, that is available on

0:08:48 > 0:08:56the BT Sport website, but live on BBC Two, will be talking you through

0:08:56 > 0:09:01Shaun Murphy and Mark King. -- that is available on the BBC sport

0:09:01 > 0:09:03website.

0:09:03 > 0:09:04is available on the BBC sport website. We are down to the

0:09:04 > 0:09:06nitty-gritty in this championship, and this should be a fascinating

0:09:06 > 0:09:13encounter. Mark King should all his grit and determination last round to

0:09:13 > 0:09:18get past John Higgins, and he is up against one of the finest men with

0:09:18 > 0:09:21the cue ever in Shaun Murphy.I'm looking forward to this match, a

0:09:21 > 0:09:34great introduction for both players. The Telly Savalas of the snooker

0:09:34 > 0:09:39world and even requesting own flavour of lollipop. Cherry flavour,

0:09:39 > 0:09:45that's what he wanted, and he's got it. Great character.

0:09:49 > 0:09:57Lovely way to start a match. We mentioned his lovely cue action, and

0:09:57 > 0:10:03there's an example, laser straight. Alan was speaking about with Jason,

0:10:03 > 0:10:07and it's just about those little unenforced errors. Generally, not

0:10:07 > 0:10:13even when he's in trouble for stop just a little glitch now and then.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17We are being critical because he is a tournament winner, but he'd win a

0:10:17 > 0:10:26lot more if he didn't have it.It's just a concentration block. Every

0:10:26 > 0:10:35time he gets to about 40 or 50, he has one uncharacteristic shot, just

0:10:35 > 0:10:42a lack of concentration. When he's fully focused, so hard to beat. It's

0:10:42 > 0:10:47hard to hide the cue ball, particularly with that laser cue

0:10:47 > 0:10:58action on those long pots. Straightaway, he is and around the

0:10:58 > 0:11:07black spot.Yeah, his ball striking is superb. He is an authority on it.

0:11:13 > 0:11:18He is a great authority when he hits it. Positivity.

0:11:21 > 0:11:27We mentioned it the other day, he gets that Murphy stopped when he is

0:11:27 > 0:11:32walking round confident. He is very confident around the table, he

0:11:32 > 0:11:45bounces round it. -- Pat Murphy storm -- that Murphy stomp.He is

0:11:45 > 0:11:52very quick as well. He is on this red night and straight and he can

0:11:52 > 0:11:57try and leave himself low on the black, and that is why he has come

0:11:57 > 0:12:02round to have a look. A nice angle on the black, so he can possibly go

0:12:02 > 0:12:11into the pack. Plenty of loose reds available. Let's see what he wants

0:12:11 > 0:12:13to do.

0:12:17 > 0:12:23There is just one of those little shops, John. OK, it's not a miss. --

0:12:23 > 0:12:31little shops. But a slight lack of concentration. Needed to hit back

0:12:31 > 0:12:37red, but just missed to leave the red into the opposite pocket. He

0:12:37 > 0:12:40missed the red and now it end of break.

0:12:51 > 0:12:57He'll be kicking himself for that cannon, and likewise there. I know

0:12:57 > 0:13:00this is being harsh, but that cue ball should have been to the bottom

0:13:00 > 0:13:06cushion. Simple little shot. Should have had them lined up with the

0:13:06 > 0:13:08yellow.

0:13:23 > 0:13:33Well, another chance to play a long red.Yeah, and Mark King's safety

0:13:33 > 0:13:39has been top quality this week. But that wasn't one of his best. Maybe

0:13:39 > 0:13:46expecting that Shaun Murphy will knock this one in. At this level,

0:13:46 > 0:13:49those type of shots are bread and butter for Shaun Murphy and of his

0:13:49 > 0:13:57ilk.One of the reasons he is so good at that is that he lets the cue

0:13:57 > 0:14:07do the work. Next time we play, watch how far the cue gets back.

0:14:07 > 0:14:12People are getting shorter and shorter cue action as well. I'm not

0:14:12 > 0:14:19the biggest fan of that. Shaun is like Higgins, he lets the cue do the

0:14:19 > 0:14:25work. That's why he generates so much work and power, because the cue

0:14:25 > 0:14:28is doing the work.

0:14:36 > 0:14:42He's got a lovely paused on the back swing as well. Before he strikes the

0:14:42 > 0:14:48ball, a pause and a release. Beautiful timing.Budding snooker

0:14:48 > 0:14:54players, because is there because, once the cue comes back in, he

0:14:54 > 0:15:02transfers his eyes onto the object ball. As he comes back, there is a

0:15:02 > 0:15:05pause, his eyes will go on to the object ball, which in this case is

0:15:05 > 0:15:11the black. And in the pocket. When you are playing, the ball you are

0:15:11 > 0:15:22looking at is the object ball. This is not a start that mark King would

0:15:22 > 0:15:27have liked. For Mark King to win this frame, I think he's going to

0:15:27 > 0:15:32scrap it out. He plays a really good safety game, good, solid, all-round

0:15:32 > 0:15:45matchplay type of snooker. He doesn't want quick frames like this.

0:15:48 > 0:15:53This is just the start that Shaun Murphy would have wanted.

0:16:00 > 0:16:0760 ahead, so red and black, 68 ahead with 67 remaining. This frame is

0:16:07 > 0:16:13over in a matter of minutes. You can see from his demeanour how well he's

0:16:13 > 0:16:21getting it. Walking around very confidently, and holding that cue in

0:16:21 > 0:16:25a beautiful manner. A bit offside on this one, and just played the

0:16:25 > 0:16:32straight screw back for the red in the middle. Just needs to make sure

0:16:32 > 0:16:37he knocks this one in. Yeah, that will be the end of the frame.

0:16:37 > 0:16:46Wonderful start, two very good long reds. OK, lost position after the

0:16:46 > 0:16:49first one, but it's great for the confidence when you are knocking

0:16:49 > 0:16:54those in. And he is also showing his opponent that means business this

0:16:54 > 0:16:58evening.

0:17:29 > 0:17:35He just hates it so good, absolutely sweet, that contact, strike,

0:17:35 > 0:17:40everything in the middle of the pocket. -- he just hits it so good.

0:17:40 > 0:17:50That's why, when he has these glitches, we are so surprised. He

0:17:50 > 0:17:53knows himself, if he cuts those out, he has a very chance of winning

0:17:53 > 0:18:04here. And I agree, he will do.A wonderful break of 71.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12Mark King is coming back to the table for a little bit of potting

0:18:12 > 0:18:19practice. But the damage is already done. Good start from Shaun Murphy.

0:18:19 > 0:18:25Mark King misses the black and says, that's enough. So Mark King concedes

0:18:25 > 0:18:35the frame, and Shaun Murphy wins the first frame, leading mark King 1-0.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38Shaun Murphy picking up where he left off, beating Ricky Walden

0:18:38 > 0:18:44yesterday. A quick start.Yet, as he slips into his technique so smooth

0:18:44 > 0:18:50and quickly. Look at this long red, Mark King dropped a few balls short

0:18:50 > 0:18:57on the baulk line, and Shaun doesn't allow those mistakes. Against a

0:18:57 > 0:19:00lesser player, you could get away with it. Such a good technician in

0:19:00 > 0:19:08the box. He really can get on top of you and take the game away from you

0:19:08 > 0:19:13quickly, so Mark King will have to get in there. He made the point

0:19:13 > 0:19:17yesterday in his interview, where he was talking about the little

0:19:17 > 0:19:21mistakes he made yesterday, and he knows this, he gave himself a seven,

0:19:21 > 0:19:24pushing and eight, if he gets rid of those, he is a real contender this

0:19:24 > 0:19:32year.There was a positional shot that went astray. If he cut that

0:19:32 > 0:19:34out, he could win anything. Absolutely, a good start by Shaun

0:19:34 > 0:19:43Murphy. Back to the commentators. Mark King comes to the table. Good

0:19:43 > 0:19:46break off, Shaun Murphy.

0:19:54 > 0:19:59Mark King, a couple of safety shots, he left those long pots, and

0:19:59 > 0:20:03normally his safety is pretty good, but it's going to be at its best

0:20:03 > 0:20:09hide that cue ball. That break-up was so good he can only just drop

0:20:09 > 0:20:15the pack. He can't play the up and down because the red on the black

0:20:15 > 0:20:23spot would be available. That was all he had. The safety play against

0:20:23 > 0:20:30John Higgins, he went 4-2 down, and if that had been eight or ten years

0:20:30 > 0:20:36ago, he wouldn't come back, but he is a different player now. His

0:20:36 > 0:20:39safety is determination, his confidence, winning in the Northern

0:20:39 > 0:20:44Ireland open, that has given him some extra belief. And so far in

0:20:44 > 0:20:47this tournament, seeing some of the games he's played, his scoring got

0:20:47 > 0:20:51better, but that would have it arrived the other day across his cue

0:20:51 > 0:20:55ball wasn't the best, and he couldn't get half ball on the black.

0:20:55 > 0:20:59I spoke to him after and, every time he finished on the black, he

0:20:59 > 0:21:02finished straight, which limits what you can do with the cue ball. He'll

0:21:02 > 0:21:06be hoping he scores better when he gets chances tonight. The longer the

0:21:06 > 0:21:09tournament goes on and the better players you play, the more you've

0:21:09 > 0:21:12got to score.

0:21:40 > 0:21:45This red is available for Mark King. OK, the black isn't on to the

0:21:45 > 0:21:50opposite corner pocket, but he could certainly get enough top spin on his

0:21:50 > 0:21:53cue ball to try and get back up for the blue. If he knocks the cue ball

0:21:53 > 0:21:58up the right-hand side, he won't be leaving anything, only possibly the

0:21:58 > 0:22:05red he's taking. It's almost a shot to nothing.I've noticed in the last

0:22:05 > 0:22:10couple of these days that these have been tough. A lot of people knocking

0:22:10 > 0:22:13the front jaw, so there's no way they are going in. It looks easy on

0:22:13 > 0:22:18the screen, it's a fairway off the push on. You've got paid respect. --

0:22:18 > 0:22:31it's a fair way off the caution. You've got paid it respect. Can't

0:22:31 > 0:22:38say I'm surprised by that. Playing tough. For some reason, I decided to

0:22:38 > 0:22:40have in our practice and they were definitely very nippy down the

0:22:40 > 0:22:50rails.Must have been cobwebs on your cue!It took me half an hour to

0:22:50 > 0:22:56wipe them off. But the tables were beautiful and the cloth was

0:22:56 > 0:23:00gorgeous, but they need maximum respect down the condition. Catching

0:23:00 > 0:23:03the jaw wasn't going in.

0:23:09 > 0:23:19A few times, he's left the cue ball well short of the cushion. It

0:23:19 > 0:23:22doesn't put any pressure on Mark King for his safety. Really, that

0:23:22 > 0:23:37cue ball should have been tight to the baulk cushion. Invery small

0:23:37 > 0:23:44margins. Sometimes, these small margins are the difference between

0:23:44 > 0:23:47winning frames and losing frames and even winning matches and losing

0:23:47 > 0:23:54matches.Sometimes it sounds like we are being ultra-critical. But I can

0:23:54 > 0:23:56guarantee you Mark King wouldn't have got that if he'd been playing

0:23:56 > 0:24:01Mark Selby, because that cue ball would have been stuck to the bottom

0:24:01 > 0:24:06cushion. It tends to be, for Shaun, when he's not in any trouble. It's

0:24:06 > 0:24:10as if he doesn't pay it respect because he doesn't think it's

0:24:10 > 0:24:13important, but it's important as everything. Get that cue ball, on

0:24:13 > 0:24:22top of the fact that you can play and plain ball a bit more, and you

0:24:22 > 0:24:35could win more tournaments.First chance for Mark King in amongst the

0:24:35 > 0:24:39balls. He's got to state his intent. It's not straightforward to go into

0:24:39 > 0:24:44the pack of reds. There are a few obstacles. The red just above the

0:24:44 > 0:24:47pink is an obstacle.

0:24:50 > 0:25:00He may not even elect to go into the pack here. You'll see Mark King's

0:25:00 > 0:25:03stance when he comes back to play best shot. Different to other

0:25:03 > 0:25:07people, both legs bent.

0:25:16 > 0:25:22I think he can get through the gap. A thin click on this red. It's not

0:25:22 > 0:25:29what he played on. It wasn't a great pack to go into a but could just get

0:25:29 > 0:25:39top of the blue. -- could just get topside of the blue. These jaws

0:25:39 > 0:25:45again. They definitely need respect, and it's good news and bad news,

0:25:45 > 0:25:52really. The good news is that the red is gone tight on the top rail.

0:25:52 > 0:25:58But he's no at the table. But this is tricky. -- he's no longer at the

0:25:58 > 0:26:06table. Shaun isn't fancying it, so it's a safety. But he's got to make

0:26:06 > 0:26:09sure that cue ball stays down near the yellow pocket.

0:26:24 > 0:26:29It baffles me why he didn't take that red that was closer to the

0:26:29 > 0:26:33bottom corner pocket. Lots of right-hand side. Spin the cue ball

0:26:33 > 0:26:38back into baulk. Another chance for Mark King.

0:26:45 > 0:26:54Nervy start for Mark King. He's had a couple of chances now.Of course,

0:26:54 > 0:26:57missing that in the way he did and leaving the cue ball on the other

0:26:57 > 0:27:01side of the table, this is a possibility for Shaun to play this.

0:27:01 > 0:27:06He'll play this with a bit of right-hand side, try and get a bit

0:27:06 > 0:27:11of cushion and ball together, and the right-hand side acts like a bit

0:27:11 > 0:27:20of a kicker. Good second prize though.

0:28:05 > 0:28:16Good shot, well sorted out. And that red down the right-hand side cushion

0:28:16 > 0:28:22Shaun was looking at is a problem. He'd ideally like to play off the

0:28:22 > 0:28:27right-hand red, but that's blocking the path of the red on the

0:28:27 > 0:28:35right-hand side, or it could be if he gets this thick. The three in the

0:28:35 > 0:28:39line by the pink spot, the right-hand one, he's got to hit it

0:28:39 > 0:28:41very thin.

0:28:51 > 0:28:58So, instead of thinking about that, look how good that was. Three

0:28:58 > 0:29:07absolute crackers. If he can't come up with a safety shot...If you can

0:29:07 > 0:29:13pot your way out of trouble, you might as well do it. Mark King would

0:29:13 > 0:29:20have been very happy with himself after that last safety shot. He

0:29:20 > 0:29:31wasn't expecting that. That's a good pot as well.I mean, that is just

0:29:31 > 0:29:36exquisite cueing. I mean, he couldn't really hold it to try and

0:29:36 > 0:29:42get on the red at the back, but the last two shots, if you want to know

0:29:42 > 0:29:46what a good functioning cue action is, you've just seen it.

0:29:54 > 0:30:09Seemed like two brilliant shots for only eight points.Well, this is the

0:30:09 > 0:30:15line that he would love to take to leave that cue ball somewhere behind

0:30:15 > 0:30:16the yellow and brown.

0:30:26 > 0:30:31That's the problem, if you miss the green, you are OK, but if you hit

0:30:31 > 0:30:35the green, you leave another red.

0:30:50 > 0:30:59The way he has been knocking those in, I thought it was going well, but

0:30:59 > 0:31:07Sean must've done his long game so far. He's not settle down yet, Mark

0:31:07 > 0:31:08King.

0:31:33 > 0:31:41Looks easy on your screen, but it's not. It's very thin. I am wondering

0:31:41 > 0:31:53whether he can just stun this, but he doesn't want the register -- the

0:31:53 > 0:31:58red to come back and cannon one of the baulk colours.

0:32:19 > 0:32:24Nice to see both players having a little laugh and a joke. There is a

0:32:24 > 0:32:32lot of tension, a lot at stake in this match. Good shot. But nice to

0:32:32 > 0:32:35see the players having a little laugh amongst themselves.

0:32:39 > 0:32:47He is going to play the tuck up here, behind the yellow, nice and

0:32:47 > 0:32:55tight. Oh, Mark. What a job that was.He can't believe that one

0:32:55 > 0:33:01himself. That was a shocker.

0:33:49 > 0:33:53Again, the target behind the yellow and brown here. He's just got to be

0:33:53 > 0:33:58careful he doesn't knock the red over the corner pocket. Oh, middle

0:33:58 > 0:34:04pocket. He didn't hit that way he intended.

0:34:08 > 0:34:13Hasn't left anything into the right corner, but Sean Murphy is so good

0:34:13 > 0:34:15with the rest.

0:34:23 > 0:34:34And I'm not such a good commentator! You've got to be, as Yaha, surprised

0:34:34 > 0:34:43by that, because he is normally very good. But no, not to be. So, another

0:34:43 > 0:34:47chance for Mark King.

0:34:51 > 0:35:00Got to score off this one, you would think. This is an ideal situation

0:35:00 > 0:35:07for Mark King here. He has got to get on at least the red, my choice

0:35:07 > 0:35:10would be the red to this bottom corner pocket, but if he gets on the

0:35:10 > 0:35:15one that is closest to the bottom left-hand corner pocket, it frees up

0:35:15 > 0:35:17the black to both corner pocket is.

0:35:20 > 0:35:28If he can get on this red here, he has got a nice angle to drop on it

0:35:28 > 0:35:30from the side cushion.

0:35:38 > 0:35:42I'm with you, I don't know whether he looked at that or he could have

0:35:42 > 0:35:49forced an angle out of it. That is the one you would want to get rid of

0:35:49 > 0:35:57first.I think he was quite fortunate that he was on that red,

0:35:57 > 0:36:04because he found the gap. He can get on this red now, pot black and try

0:36:04 > 0:36:17to get that red. A good chance then. That shot there, I may have been

0:36:17 > 0:36:26tempted to play a little cannon, Justice group -- just a screw

0:36:26 > 0:36:37cannon. Going to play this a little softer, to hold the white. He

0:36:37 > 0:36:41wouldn't have had to worry about that shot if he had played the other

0:36:41 > 0:36:42cannon, but we all see it differently.

0:36:50 > 0:37:00The white is free for the black, but it's OK. It just goes into the

0:37:00 > 0:37:06right-hand side of the pocket. This is where Mark King is quite good,

0:37:06 > 0:37:11when the balls are in the open and he's just got to play a series of

0:37:11 > 0:37:21stuns, little cannons on reds in the black and pink area.

0:37:27 > 0:37:36That's OK.Not wholly convinced, is he? The black warbled in the jaws

0:37:36 > 0:37:40and went in, he is still on the table, that is the main thing, but

0:37:40 > 0:37:46you just want to see him get one of those little cannons correctly.

0:37:52 > 0:37:58You don't expect him to outscore Sean Murphy. That would reflect in

0:37:58 > 0:38:07their career centuries, a bit of a difference there, but what he is

0:38:07 > 0:38:27good at is making 60, 70 breaks, enough to leave his opponent needing

0:38:27 > 0:38:31snookersit makes your life so much easier when you get the cannons

0:38:31 > 0:38:33correct.

0:38:44 > 0:38:49He has looked a little bit nervous in the opening exchanges. Sean

0:38:49 > 0:38:56hasn't pressed home his advantage. This break will settle him down. If

0:38:56 > 0:39:03you can win the frame from this position, John.He is in two mines

0:39:03 > 0:39:09here on what to do. He has got a natural shot, he could stun up for

0:39:09 > 0:39:12the blue, you don't have to play an pink in the middle.

0:39:16 > 0:39:24Yes, but if you are going up for the blue, Mark, make sure you get past

0:39:24 > 0:39:25it.

0:39:32 > 0:39:37Not a great time to lose the cue ball, 52 ahead, this will leave it

0:39:37 > 0:39:4857, with 59 on.That was the one time you didn't want to play a bad

0:39:48 > 0:39:53shot. I don't think he can avoid the blue.

0:39:53 > 0:40:01He just needs one more red.

0:40:15 > 0:40:24That's more like it.He got there in the end, didn't he? Made it hard

0:40:24 > 0:40:28work for himself, but this time, make sure you get nice and tight in

0:40:28 > 0:40:29behind, Mark.

0:40:35 > 0:40:40So, an excellent contribution from Mark King, a little struggle in

0:40:40 > 0:40:45places, but nevertheless, a good break, 53. He should take the second

0:40:45 > 0:40:45frame.

0:41:18 > 0:41:22I don't think Sean will be coming back to the table whatever happens,

0:41:22 > 0:41:23you wouldn't think.

0:41:34 > 0:41:41And Sean Murphy nods his head, that's enough for him. Well done

0:41:41 > 0:41:44Mark King, that was just what the doctor ordered, and he levels the

0:41:44 > 0:41:46match at one frame all.

0:41:50 > 0:41:54There is another match taking place this evening, Ryan Day a Mark Joyce,

0:41:54 > 0:41:59and Ryan has already won the league of Masters this season. He has made

0:41:59 > 0:42:06a good start in his first session, and coverage of that match continues

0:42:06 > 0:42:12on your red button, BBC Sport app and website. And exactly what Mark

0:42:12 > 0:42:16King needed, to get on the board, but he knocked in a fantastic red,

0:42:16 > 0:42:22then he missed a few chances. This was as good a shot as Mark King will

0:42:22 > 0:42:26play all week. It was a shock to nothing, the only one he leaves,

0:42:26 > 0:42:30when he is playing, that is a typical Mark King shot. There was

0:42:30 > 0:42:34one later in the framework Sean Murphy has missed a trick. He is

0:42:34 > 0:42:41probably the best there is with the rest, but he misses a little cut

0:42:41 > 0:42:44back red, that was effectively a cut ball for a player of his standard,

0:42:44 > 0:42:51but it was a really neat and tidy 53 by Mark King, typical Mark King.

0:42:54 > 0:43:07JOHN PARROTT: Very gutsy, certainly what he was in his last match, Mark

0:43:07 > 0:43:11King, he dug in, and I was hugely impressed, as most people were, that

0:43:11 > 0:43:17he came back to win that match. It is never easy beating John Higgins

0:43:17 > 0:43:24at any time, whether he is at his best not, but mark dug in, and that

0:43:24 > 0:43:26is why he is in the quarterfinal.

0:43:34 > 0:43:45Goodness me. The way he is going with his long potting, you could

0:43:45 > 0:43:51make a video just of these. Absolutely stunning, that is,

0:43:51 > 0:43:59wonderful cueing. Not many players you would be thinking, go on, son,

0:43:59 > 0:44:04have a go at that one. And then all of a sudden you are sitting in your

0:44:04 > 0:44:08chair and he has got a magnificent chance. That was a brilliant shot.

0:44:14 > 0:44:22One of the top shots of the tournament so far. Nice little

0:44:22 > 0:44:28cannon on the red, he has got a red into the left corner. The cue ball

0:44:28 > 0:44:32will be running into the reds, hopefully opening up that pack. A

0:44:32 > 0:44:39lot of top spin. He just needs to be careful here, he has got to push the

0:44:39 > 0:44:44cue ball through the pack of reds. He is screwing back, he has got to

0:44:44 > 0:44:55be on the block. -- the black. If there was a loose red at the back of

0:44:55 > 0:44:59the black, it wouldn't be too bad, but I don't think he can generate

0:44:59 > 0:45:10too much out of this. Let's just see how he plays this. Well, that is

0:45:10 > 0:45:16just magnificent. It really is top, top cueing. I can't tell you just

0:45:16 > 0:45:22how hard a shot that is. The cue comes right back, straight through.

0:45:22 > 0:45:26You can't play it any better than that, you really can't.

0:45:37 > 0:45:44A little bit straight on this blue, just to screw back and take a red

0:45:44 > 0:45:47from the distance.

0:45:54 > 0:46:04The target is 69, to leave his opponent needing the snooker.

0:46:17 > 0:46:23It is a lovely, crisp sound every time Sean Murphy knocks one of these

0:46:23 > 0:46:32reds into the pocket, it hit the back of the leather, really crisp

0:46:32 > 0:46:38cueing.You know what I mean, he is a good ball striker, no dropping in

0:46:38 > 0:46:45off jaws or fiddling about with it, it is just authority. If you were on

0:46:45 > 0:46:50the other table and Sean was playing, you would know it was him.

0:46:50 > 0:46:54It's the way he queues and hits the ball in the pocket. This is a nice

0:46:54 > 0:47:01angle for the cannon here. He has played it very well, reading to the

0:47:01 > 0:47:17left corner. -- red into the left corner. And when he pots this red,

0:47:17 > 0:47:19it will be open to the bottom corner pocket.

0:47:25 > 0:47:35Lovely little cannon if he wants it. Lots of options, but the red to the

0:47:35 > 0:47:39right of the pink fits in the open, he can play a little cannon printer

0:47:39 > 0:47:49that one, and the red at the bottom near the black is also open.

0:47:54 > 0:48:02Could have done with hitting that full ball, but he got it half ball

0:48:02 > 0:48:10instead. He can still pot it. And in fact, the pink goes, so that's happy

0:48:10 > 0:48:11days.

0:48:30 > 0:48:36He's just concerned about where the pink spots, he is having a look at

0:48:36 > 0:48:41where he puts

0:48:47 > 0:48:56and that is one of the typical, silly shots from Paul Murphy. I

0:48:56 > 0:49:00shouldn't have been anywhere near the yellow. He is motoring along

0:49:00 > 0:49:07nicely, and just now and again, a typical shot from him.

0:49:07 > 0:49:12That pink was a funny situation, if it had gone in nearest to its own

0:49:12 > 0:49:18spot behind it, that would have stopped that red that he has just

0:49:18 > 0:49:20taken.

0:49:32 > 0:49:38It has got to be a little frustrating, because boy, is he

0:49:38 > 0:49:43hitting it good. Striking it supremely well. It is only a little

0:49:43 > 0:49:47bit of position that can stop him clearing up every time with that cue

0:49:47 > 0:49:52action, the way he is hitting it at the minute. It is obvious when he

0:49:52 > 0:49:56gets around 40, 50, 60 points.

0:49:59 > 0:50:13Just before he gets to his opponent needing snookers, he just drops in

0:50:13 > 0:50:16the odd silly shot.

0:50:36 > 0:50:42He has had a good look around, and I don't know why he is loath to play

0:50:42 > 0:50:46this one, because it is the right one to play. A natural angle to play

0:50:46 > 0:50:53a little stun and bring the cue ball back into the baulk cushion area.

0:50:53 > 0:50:56Yes, never any trouble playing that shot.

0:51:18 > 0:51:24And a very good safety it is, too. Can't see past down the left side of

0:51:24 > 0:51:31the brown to the reds that are behind the pink. The one on the

0:51:31 > 0:51:38right-hand cushion has got double-kiss written all over it.

0:51:44 > 0:51:51And because he was cannon into other balls, he knew there was a good

0:51:51 > 0:52:00chance he would put one to a corner. So, another chance for Sean.

0:52:22 > 0:52:26He can soft screw this brown in and try to get onto that red just below

0:52:26 > 0:52:27the black.

0:52:30 > 0:52:39Looks pretty good. Excellent positional shot. 61 ahead, so red

0:52:39 > 0:52:47and black will be enough. This is lovely, just a little screw

0:52:47 > 0:52:50back to leave the angle on the black, and the bottom red goes the

0:52:50 > 0:52:54opposite corner, so it is looking like to- one.

0:53:29 > 0:53:41It has been quickfire stuff, these first few frames. Coming up to 43

0:53:41 > 0:53:54minutes for the match, three frames to the good.

0:53:56 > 0:54:02He is terrific to watch when he is playing it like this. Some of the

0:54:02 > 0:54:10cueing in this match has been exemplary.Particularly these long

0:54:10 > 0:54:23pots. As that red stays in the jaws of the pocket. So, Sean Murphy goes

0:54:23 > 0:54:31back into the lead, and he leads Mark King 2-1 and mark is leaving

0:54:31 > 0:54:35the arena for a very short breaks, and that gives us an opportunity to

0:54:35 > 0:54:38drop into the other match, Ryan Day taking on Mark Joyce.

0:54:38 > 0:54:49I know you have been keeping an eye on this one.

0:54:49 > 0:54:54Yes, Mark Joyce, there is a worry here, the occasion getting to him.

0:54:54 > 0:54:59Likewise, Ryan Day, mind you, it has not been fireworks so far. As you

0:54:59 > 0:55:09can see here, he is in with a decent chance of getting back to 2-2 before

0:55:09 > 0:55:13the mid-session interval. If you want to carry on watching this live,

0:55:13 > 0:55:17that is available on the BBC red button, BBC Sport website and app,

0:55:17 > 0:55:21but in the meantime, let's go back to the match we are watching, Sean

0:55:21 > 0:55:26Murphy taking on Mark King, and just finding his rhythm again.Yes, the

0:55:26 > 0:55:35red that he potted, the first ball of the frame, this is that good that

0:55:35 > 0:55:39probably half of the players on the main tour are not even capable of

0:55:39 > 0:55:44playing that shot, that is how good it was. He can take the game away

0:55:44 > 0:55:48from you, turn your lights out quickly, but he is not winning

0:55:48 > 0:55:51frames in one visit. Still the odd little shot here and there is going

0:55:51 > 0:55:58awry. Screwing in between yellow and brown, and caught the yellow, an

0:55:58 > 0:56:01elementary error that has been typical of his game the whole week.

0:56:01 > 0:56:06If he cuts those out, he can turn anyone's lights out, but Mark King

0:56:06 > 0:56:10will battle the whole way.And that was one of those pots from Sean

0:56:10 > 0:56:24Murphy where everything just went, wow.I would still be out there,

0:56:24 > 0:56:30trying to hit that that well, that was incredible, it really was

0:56:30 > 0:56:33awesome. I think there are a few shots that he has played tonight

0:56:33 > 0:56:39that almost defy logic. I mean, these are standard long balls from

0:56:39 > 0:56:43Sean Murphy, but it just proves that you just can't afford to leave him

0:56:43 > 0:56:48anything. That's why when you leave Sean Murphy any sort of long shot at

0:56:48 > 0:56:56all as a player, as an opponent, you go back to Yorkshire -- back to your

0:56:56 > 0:57:03chair and you think, is that it?So are you saying there is no one else

0:57:03 > 0:57:10on the circuit that can cue that well?No one can hit the ball better

0:57:10 > 0:57:16than that.Fantastic stuff from Sean Murphy. Mark King has got a smile on

0:57:16 > 0:57:21his face. Back for a few more minutes, because we are leaving at

0:57:21 > 0:57:23eight o'clock tonight but we will be heading straight to the red button,

0:57:23 > 0:57:26you will not miss the point.

0:57:28 > 0:57:34JOHN PARROTT: Great to see those long pots that he played their put

0:57:34 > 0:57:40back-to-back, just to see how good the cueing was. Absolutely fabulous

0:57:40 > 0:57:44with the last one that you saw there. That is as good a shot as you

0:57:44 > 0:57:48have seen this week, that one off the bottom cushion, to cue that and

0:57:48 > 0:57:50get up the table, fabulous.

0:58:29 > 0:58:33JASON MOHAMMAD: It is that time of the evening were have to tell you

0:58:33 > 0:58:39that we are off to the red button. If you hit your red button now, you

0:58:39 > 0:58:42will not miss a thing, John Parrott on Ken Doherty guiding you through

0:58:42 > 0:58:49this one. And then tomorrow, the first semifinal, 1:15pm on BBC One,

0:58:49 > 0:58:54and the quarterfinal highlights tonight at five past 11. Ronnie

0:58:54 > 0:58:59O'Sullivan and Stephen McGuire, 1:15pm tomorrow with Hazel. Thank

0:58:59 > 0:58:59you for
