0:00:21 > 0:00:30Ulster had had plenty to celebrate so far this season. Three wins out

0:00:31 > 0:00:35of four isn't a bad start. Little bit disappointed with Sunday.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39were no excuses after a poor performance away from home. We were

0:00:39 > 0:00:44not physical enough and the tackling was not great. Five days

0:00:44 > 0:00:52later, Ulster are back in Wales. The Dragons are good side and

0:00:52 > 0:00:57aggressive. Especially at home. It will be a tough game. So says Dan

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Tuohy. Welcome to the latest instalment of Ulster rugby life.

0:01:00 > 0:01:07The Newport Gwent Dragons provide opposition in the Pro12 season and

0:01:07 > 0:01:11joining me art Tony McWhirter and and the board. We will hear from me

0:01:11 > 0:01:15in a moment but first, the thoughts of the Ulster coach and last

0:01:15 > 0:01:22weekend's first defeat. From our point of view it's very

0:01:22 > 0:01:27disappointing. We give away 18 full penalties. That is more penalties

0:01:27 > 0:01:32than they have given away in all of our other games this season. It is

0:01:32 > 0:01:35exceptionally disappointing and the referee had some issues. But that

0:01:35 > 0:01:40is the case with all referees and we have to deal with that. We have

0:01:40 > 0:01:44to learn to manage that and we have been doing that so far and this

0:01:44 > 0:01:52weekend against the Dragons will be no different. Were did it go wrong

0:01:52 > 0:01:55last week? It started with the set pieces. The Ospreys had a look at

0:01:55 > 0:01:59the Ulster full-backs and really a dollars the fact that there were

0:01:59 > 0:02:04youngsters in the front row. Duncan Jones took them apart. He showed

0:02:04 > 0:02:11his experience. Let's look at some examples. Ulster had also has a

0:02:11 > 0:02:17problems. Probably experience was the one thing. The very experienced

0:02:17 > 0:02:23front-five. They are up in the scrummage. Nobody standing up and

0:02:23 > 0:02:28hanging on. As Brian said, I cannot think of any team that has given

0:02:28 > 0:02:32away 18 penalties. How much did the referee played in this? The last

0:02:33 > 0:02:35thing we want to do is criticised but there will always be a

0:02:35 > 0:02:40breakdown in communication somewhere. We spoke beforehand and

0:02:40 > 0:02:45considering how much trouble the Ulster side was in, nobody was

0:02:45 > 0:02:51penalised individually. It was left to roam on and the Ospreys turned

0:02:51 > 0:02:56the screws. Robbie Deeya, the yellow card. And there were

0:02:56 > 0:03:00problems with the breakdown? Look at the Ulster players, they are

0:03:00 > 0:03:04very slow getting to the breakdown and they were lacklustre. And the

0:03:04 > 0:03:09lack of experience across the board. Compare that to what has happened

0:03:09 > 0:03:13so far. It is an area where they have been particularly impressive.

0:03:13 > 0:03:19The fast ball is the key. They are exciting with the fast backs. One

0:03:19 > 0:03:22thing that they will see and hear different tonight is the referee,

0:03:22 > 0:03:27the refereeing from Scotland and Neil Patterson is very focused and

0:03:27 > 0:03:31you will hear from him. That is one thing the guys did not have last

0:03:31 > 0:03:37week. In terms of doing something wrong, they will fix it before they

0:03:37 > 0:03:42are penalised. Paddy Jackson, how did he handle last week? Well, a

0:03:42 > 0:03:48lot of Young players around him. When he does get the ball he is

0:03:48 > 0:03:52exciting. And away. That is what you want. A little bit of

0:03:52 > 0:03:58acceleration and he has a good future. With Ian Humphreys missing

0:03:58 > 0:04:02it's another big night for Jackson? I absolutely. He did a lot last

0:04:02 > 0:04:06week in terms of going forward. He showed inexperience when he tried

0:04:06 > 0:04:12to move the ball around too much and did not get a lot of structure.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16He will have learnt from that. The inexperienced back line, there is a

0:04:16 > 0:04:20loss of potential but the Ospreys or a difficult place to go to. If

0:04:20 > 0:04:25you look at the back line, there is a lot of experience but they will

0:04:25 > 0:04:29learn from that. They have a chance to turn that around. There is a

0:04:29 > 0:04:34quick turnaround and it is a time to bounce-back quickly. That is

0:04:34 > 0:04:39something I am looking forward to. To see if they can bounce back. It

0:04:39 > 0:04:45was mentioned earlier, physicality is the key. If they don't front up,

0:04:45 > 0:04:51they will get blown away. Is this about Ulster trying to keep things

0:04:51 > 0:04:57more simple? Possibly, yes. Last week, we may be underestimated the

0:04:57 > 0:05:02opposition. That will have been put to bed. The let's talk about the

0:05:03 > 0:05:09Ulster team tonight. Three changes. No Jared Payne. Adam D'Arcy comes

0:05:09 > 0:05:13in at full-back. I would like to see Willie Faloon back in.

0:05:13 > 0:05:18Something that the side has missed, he is a good man on the ground.

0:05:18 > 0:05:28Because of last week? This gives them balance in the back row. And

0:05:28 > 0:05:29

0:05:29 > 0:05:33the back line is good. Exciting. is a shame that he had a bad game

0:05:33 > 0:05:40but there is an able replacement with Adam D'Arcy. He will kick

0:05:40 > 0:05:44every ball. He will be missed. And the one thing he does bring his

0:05:44 > 0:05:50experience in the back. What about the Dragons? Missing a lot of

0:05:50 > 0:05:56players. Missing people due to the World Cup but they also have

0:05:56 > 0:06:05internal injuries. It is a chance for that inexperience to show.

0:06:05 > 0:06:13Jason is their key player. And how excited are you to see Tom dry

0:06:14 > 0:06:17pitch and anger. He is a flying machine? -- Tonderai Chavhanga.

0:06:17 > 0:06:24This is what the northern hemisphere game is coming to, they

0:06:25 > 0:06:28are able to travel. And bringing a different prospect to rugby.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32suppose discipline will be absolutely key for Ulster after

0:06:32 > 0:06:35conceding all those penalties? Without doubt, that is what course

0:06:35 > 0:06:43then the game. They cannot afford to give away that none of penalties

0:06:43 > 0:06:53and expect to win. -- that many penalties. Thank you. Time to join

0:06:53 > 0:07:04

0:07:04 > 0:07:14game underway. The former alone outside-half Neil Paterson is there.

0:07:14 > 0:07:15

0:07:15 > 0:07:18Adam D'Arcy, back in the side after injury. And he chases his own kick.

0:07:18 > 0:07:28Back on the Dragons side, they have played the other three Irish teams

0:07:28 > 0:07:35

0:07:35 > 0:07:42and have lost to Ulster, Munster, Gavin Thomas, capped 22 times for

0:07:42 > 0:07:48his country. Jason Tovey. He has a little shove. He is dangerous and

0:07:48 > 0:07:52that was a high tackle from Ulster. To add another high tackle coming

0:07:52 > 0:08:00in from Declan Fitzpatrick. The referee will have a word with the

0:08:00 > 0:08:08Ulster man who put that tackle in. There was a step inside and a

0:08:08 > 0:08:13rather clumsy if on malicious attack by Nevin Spence. That little

0:08:13 > 0:08:23shove. A couple of seasons ago, he got a hat-trick of tries against

0:08:23 > 0:08:26

0:08:26 > 0:08:30He threw the arm up. The conditions are perfect, expect to see a lot of

0:08:30 > 0:08:37multi- play rugby. Both teams like to play rugby and the temper will

0:08:37 > 0:08:46be crucial. Whether they can play with much width. That was a good

0:08:46 > 0:08:54strike from Jason Tovey. Hugely experienced. Here is a man 10 years

0:08:54 > 0:09:00as a senior. Tom Willis, the skipper. The interception from

0:09:00 > 0:09:10Ulster, nothing wrong with that. Gets through the line-up. That is a

0:09:10 > 0:09:15

0:09:15 > 0:09:25scrum half, Paul Marshall. Paddy Jackson wasting no time and that

0:09:25 > 0:09:41

0:09:41 > 0:09:50Ulster are falling through, nobody little on the early side. That is a

0:09:50 > 0:09:54good throw. Taken by Pedrie Wannenburg. The 10 metre line. Luke

0:09:54 > 0:10:02Marshall not quite getting away cleanly. Jackson. Luke Marshall,

0:10:02 > 0:10:09Nevin Spence. Well tackled by Tom Riley. Luke Marshall, Dan Tuohy. He

0:10:09 > 0:10:13did his hamstring badly in the second half against the Dragons.

0:10:13 > 0:10:18And Neil Paterson has another penalty. Luke Marshall sets off but

0:10:18 > 0:10:24he had to come back. A good early indication from the referee that he

0:10:24 > 0:10:27will police that area. Both teams have that attacking intent and they

0:10:27 > 0:10:33are allowed to get quick ball from the breakdown. It makes for an

0:10:33 > 0:10:38entertaining game. It might have been Paddy Jackson's goal-kicking

0:10:38 > 0:10:44range but he has got in as close as possible. This was the initial

0:10:45 > 0:10:51thrust from Dan Tuohy. An the Dragons player right off his feet.

0:10:51 > 0:10:55Some interference from Adam Jones. One of the three Welsh

0:10:55 > 0:11:03internationals in the Dragons pack. Nigel Brady, his first Oscar start

0:11:03 > 0:11:09this season. The more than competent Dan Tuohy. Good position

0:11:09 > 0:11:19from Ulster. Willie Faloon on the Ulster outside-half position. Luke

0:11:19 > 0:11:19

0:11:19 > 0:11:26Marshall. Paul Marshall. Pedrie Wannenburg. He got one of Ulster's

0:11:26 > 0:11:32three tries last season. Last year. The Dragons coming over and the

0:11:32 > 0:11:35referee isn't having any of this. They are infringing on the

0:11:35 > 0:11:40breakdown and Neil Paterson is taking no nonsense. A couple of

0:11:40 > 0:11:44penalties already. Not running away. Interfering with the hat back as he

0:11:44 > 0:11:53goes to clear the ball. If you can stamp his authority early, the

0:11:53 > 0:11:58teams will hopefully adapt. It was the initial drive from Pedrie

0:11:58 > 0:12:02Wannenburg. He was well tackled by both of the second row forwards. I

0:12:02 > 0:12:12can see what that infringement was. Coming in from the site. Adam Jones

0:12:12 > 0:12:20

0:12:21 > 0:12:26inside the 22. He will have practised this a lot. Just against

0:12:26 > 0:12:31are the 5.5 million new stand. And Jackson makes no mistake. That is a

0:12:31 > 0:12:41good start from Ulster. Having given away an early penalty. Not

0:12:41 > 0:12:50

0:12:50 > 0:13:00capable. Ulster have bounced back and they are leading. He has given

0:13:00 > 0:13:02

0:13:02 > 0:13:08that plenty of height. The new man, Tonderai Chavhanga. Luke Marshall

0:13:09 > 0:13:17takes it on himself. Into the touchline, Lewis Evans. He has made

0:13:17 > 0:13:21some decent ground. Wayne Evans. Chipped away. The penalty, to the

0:13:21 > 0:13:28Dragons, straight away. And Ulster have done what they how should not

0:13:28 > 0:13:36have done. That is concede a penalty. But Neil Paterson is

0:13:36 > 0:13:40nothing if not inconsistent. In the aftermath of last week's defeat at

0:13:40 > 0:13:45the Ospreys, they are adapting to the referee's interpretation. It is

0:13:45 > 0:13:49clear already with only six minutes gone, that rolling away at the

0:13:49 > 0:13:58breakdown, any infringement preventing the quick ball and the

0:13:58 > 0:14:08offside line are the two areas to focus on. The first team to adapt

0:14:08 > 0:14:09

0:14:09 > 0:14:14quickly will win. There and there is a terrific knock. That was Craig

0:14:14 > 0:14:20Gilroy on his opposite number. Mike Poole. He did a spot of cage

0:14:20 > 0:14:24fighting, it seems. The referee tonight might be more on the ball

0:14:24 > 0:14:29than any referee in a cage fighting, not that I had any experience of

0:14:29 > 0:14:39the latter. The first piece of action for the Dragons from their

0:14:39 > 0:14:46

0:14:46 > 0:14:54Seven and a half minutes gone and it is finely balanced at three

0:14:54 > 0:15:00apiece. In the red shirt is Jamie Smith, who signed for Dragons last

0:15:00 > 0:15:08season. A warning with that kick from Tovey, not regulation by any

0:15:08 > 0:15:18means. Great chasing by Ulster and Spence. A wonderful take by the

0:15:18 > 0:15:43

0:15:43 > 0:15:47that break down. The referee has given the scrum to Ulster. The

0:15:47 > 0:15:54first scrum of the game. It should be interested after what happened

0:15:54 > 0:15:59last week. Ulster going through a few phases. Trying to generate some

0:15:59 > 0:16:03momentum into their play and the ball unplayable. A big hit. But the

0:16:03 > 0:16:09strength to ride the tackle and the ability to get over that line and

0:16:09 > 0:16:15Brady coming in and cleaning out to ensure that recycled possession.

0:16:15 > 0:16:25the tiet head side for Dragons is the new man, Nathan Buck. He made

0:16:25 > 0:16:28

0:16:28 > 0:16:32his debut last week in Galloway. -- Gall way. I can't understand why

0:16:32 > 0:16:40fellow forwards pat a forward on the head when the scrum collapses.

0:16:40 > 0:16:48I'm not sure if that is called doing your job properly. A gorgeous

0:16:48 > 0:16:58night here. An Indian summer. It is a shirt-sleeved evening. It is very

0:16:58 > 0:17:26

0:17:27 > 0:17:32tried to keep the ball in. And that should be a line out to the Dragons.

0:17:32 > 0:17:39A bit lateral from Ulster in their attacking place. Spence get over

0:17:39 > 0:17:43the advantage line and he usually gets across and Ulster guilty of

0:17:43 > 0:17:53drifting across with the pass and cramping themselves into the touch

0:17:53 > 0:18:03

0:18:03 > 0:18:10line. Forced to throw that metres. Evans may have a kick down

0:18:10 > 0:18:20the line. That is hanging awkwardly. A bit of obstruction the Dragons

0:18:20 > 0:18:21

0:18:21 > 0:18:31fans feel. He knocked it forward. The referee playing advantage. AWye

0:18:31 > 0:18:32

0:18:33 > 0:18:42comes Tom Riley. It is nothing if not exciting so far. This time the

0:18:43 > 0:18:43

0:18:43 > 0:18:48Dragons knock forward and the referee is again playing advantage.

0:18:48 > 0:18:54AI way he goes. This is what they bought him for. What a turn of pace.

0:18:54 > 0:18:59Was he taken down late? The Dragons fans think so. Gilroy has come back

0:18:59 > 0:19:05and he has knocked it forward. It is an error-strewn game, but it

0:19:05 > 0:19:11makes for an exciting game. What about this fellow, Chavhanga?

0:19:11 > 0:19:16to end stuff and but for a couple of handling errors, it could have

0:19:16 > 0:19:22been a try. This man is electric. The ability to turn on that

0:19:22 > 0:19:30accelerator. Not the sort of man you want to turn loose kicking the

0:19:30 > 0:19:33ball to him. He is very strung and got away from the defence. I think

0:19:33 > 0:19:42two Ulster players collide, rather than obstruct. Otherwise the

0:19:42 > 0:19:52referee would have picked up on that. This is the closest the

0:19:52 > 0:20:07

0:20:07 > 0:20:13at what is going on in the front row. Down on their knees a couple

0:20:13 > 0:20:23of players. He has asked them to reset. Great attacking position for

0:20:23 > 0:20:55

0:20:55 > 0:21:00the Dragonss. They have four men to line. Knocked back, says the

0:21:00 > 0:21:10referee. Ulster getting to the break down quickly and causing the

0:21:10 > 0:21:13

0:21:13 > 0:21:23Dragons to concede ground. Spence with the tackle. A missed tackle

0:21:23 > 0:21:29

0:21:30 > 0:21:33and they have won the penalty. Holding on in the tackle. Good

0:21:33 > 0:21:38defence by Ulster? Yes it is difficult to see why in perfect

0:21:38 > 0:21:42conditions there is the number of handling errors that there has been.

0:21:42 > 0:21:48Unless there a fine due settling on the ground. But Ulster forced to

0:21:48 > 0:21:51dig deep and coming up with the crucial turnover to relieve

0:21:51 > 0:22:00pressure. Paddy Jackson will be relieved that his cross kick didn't

0:22:00 > 0:22:10result in a try for the Dragons' new signing. Jackson finds his

0:22:10 > 0:22:33

0:22:33 > 0:22:43touch. There is the offence. that. It goes back, and it has been

0:22:43 > 0:22:55

0:22:55 > 0:22:59opts for the kick. And not a bad kick. A good option by Tovey. He

0:22:59 > 0:23:04assessed the situation. Ulster had excess numbers in defence and

0:23:04 > 0:23:14executed a good kick. He had a glance and on to that left foot and

0:23:14 > 0:23:46

0:23:46 > 0:23:54scrum option. When you play the Dragons here at Rodney Parade, you

0:23:54 > 0:24:00want to silence them early. It is an great ground and very vocal and

0:24:00 > 0:24:10you need to get on top of them early. Ulster will have to dig deep

0:24:10 > 0:24:30

0:24:30 > 0:24:36to ensure they don't give away any Ulster give away the penalty.

0:24:36 > 0:24:41Faloon was off side. You would be backing Tovey to knock this over.

0:24:41 > 0:24:47He has looked very accurate with the ball off the grounds and an

0:24:47 > 0:24:57opportunity to get that 6-3 lead. Faloon was just loitering there

0:24:57 > 0:24:59

0:24:59 > 0:25:06with intent to be penalised you have to say. And Spence having a

0:25:06 > 0:25:12wee word with him. The assistant referee seemed to be having a big

0:25:12 > 0:25:22input into these penalty, they're being strict on the back footment

0:25:22 > 0:25:24

0:25:24 > 0:25:34the referee is showing his intent. Tovey with over 300 points in the

0:25:34 > 0:25:39

0:25:39 > 0:25:45Dragons into the lead. Coming up to the end of the first quarter, it is

0:25:45 > 0:25:49Dragons 6, Ulster 3. The challenge for Ulster is now one of territory

0:25:49 > 0:25:54and possession. They played the last ten minutes deep in their own

0:25:54 > 0:26:02territory and the Dragons have got the points. Looking for some

0:26:02 > 0:26:07possession and territory now. Ulster had a great chance there to

0:26:07 > 0:26:13snap that up. The initial knock forwards is by the dragons. But

0:26:13 > 0:26:17there was a glorious chance and a sharp Ulster may have capitalised

0:26:17 > 0:26:24on that. No one put their name on the ball for the Dragons and there

0:26:24 > 0:26:34was uncertainty about who was going to take that. That resulted in the

0:26:34 > 0:26:36

0:26:36 > 0:26:46handling error. A perfect attacking platform for Ulster. Jerry Cronin

0:26:46 > 0:26:57

0:26:57 > 0:27:07starting his fifth game in a row front rows about the early

0:27:07 > 0:27:18

0:27:18 > 0:27:22by Henry. Away goes Marshall and he indidn't perhaps have the ball

0:27:22 > 0:27:27properly in his possession. This could be dangerous. Back goes

0:27:27 > 0:27:32Gilroy, as the referee decided the advantage was over and Gilroy does

0:27:32 > 0:27:40wonderfully and again Ulster give away the penalty. It may have been

0:27:40 > 0:27:47for not releasing. Claiming that Ulster, an Ulster player had a hand

0:27:47 > 0:27:50on him. But Dragons players pouring over and some excellent counter

0:27:50 > 0:27:59rucking work. Well the penalty count is starting to creep up again

0:27:59 > 0:28:04and the error count is creeping up. Brian McLaughlin want be happy with

0:28:05 > 0:28:09that. He didn't have the ball under control there and away came the

0:28:09 > 0:28:19Dragons. Gilroy did well to get back. He was tackled and he went to

0:28:19 > 0:28:20

0:28:20 > 0:28:30ground. And he got himself up again. Was he held? Debatable. Well stolen

0:28:30 > 0:28:46

0:28:46 > 0:28:56Jackson. Ran into a couple of big tight forwards. Marshall with an

0:28:56 > 0:29:13

0:29:13 > 0:29:18release the fast fella? Yes they can. Well that is high. That is the

0:29:18 > 0:29:23second high tackle Spence has put in and he may find himself carded

0:29:23 > 0:29:27for that. A bit columnsy. But very definitely high and illegal andless

0:29:27 > 0:29:31going to go to the bin. That is the second time and you can't blame the

0:29:31 > 0:29:36referee for that. I would like to see the replay. It look like it

0:29:36 > 0:29:40started at the shoulder and maybe driftd up. Maybe given he has been

0:29:40 > 0:29:49warned, the referee feeling he had no option. It will be interesting

0:29:49 > 0:29:55to see where that tackle initially started. The full back came in. Oh

0:29:55 > 0:30:00that was high. Columnsy with the arm - clumsy with the arm position.

0:30:00 > 0:30:07The first contact was above the shoulder. A difficult time for

0:30:07 > 0:30:13Ulster. Both teams have given away possession from the set piece

0:30:13 > 0:30:23through errors. They will want to ensloor they don't do that again.

0:30:23 > 0:30:30

0:30:30 > 0:30:37The Dragons have gone for the line the Dragons have kept it. Jones

0:30:37 > 0:30:43takes it forward. Tom Willis, the captain, makes some ground. 15

0:30:43 > 0:30:50metres out. Thomas, the flanker. Quicker ball, Wayne Evans. This

0:30:50 > 0:30:57could be dangerous. And he has gone through! They realise that Ulster

0:30:57 > 0:31:02had a big hole in their defence. They capitalised to the full. And

0:31:02 > 0:31:09Ulster, once again, having scored the early points, have now been

0:31:09 > 0:31:14conceding. Very good football from the Dragons. A couple of times they

0:31:14 > 0:31:18went around the same way around the rucks. And the overlap develops in

0:31:18 > 0:31:25the wider channel. And the Dragons very clinical in executing their

0:31:25 > 0:31:32numbers. A little bit of drifting by Ulster but they were outnumbered

0:31:32 > 0:31:42and outmanoeuvred. Puts a foot on the gas... And it is a try for the

0:31:42 > 0:31:47

0:31:47 > 0:31:55and connect so far. That little chip from the FA line. That was

0:31:55 > 0:32:02lovely. -- far line. The last time Ulster were here at this stage,

0:32:02 > 0:32:11they were performing similarly. The Dragons could not come back but can

0:32:11 > 0:32:15Ulster come back? Jason Tovey is having a very good time. It isn't

0:32:15 > 0:32:25about Ulster enough time defensively. And that was very

0:32:25 > 0:32:36

0:32:36 > 0:32:44clinical. Jackson goes for the that going? That is going... Taken

0:32:44 > 0:32:54across. That is fine, by Martyn Thomas. Taken by Adam D'Arcy. Luke

0:32:54 > 0:33:02

0:33:02 > 0:33:11Marshall, he has men. One of them against the Dragons for being

0:33:11 > 0:33:21offside. This is reasonably capable. I think Paddy Jackson might have a

0:33:21 > 0:33:26

0:33:26 > 0:33:35Ten-point margin. Kicking straight in front, but a fair difference --

0:33:35 > 0:33:41distance. 26 minutes gone. One try against them but they will want to

0:33:41 > 0:33:45chisel that lead down. Martyn Thomas did extremely well. He was

0:33:45 > 0:33:55going to fall back into the dead- ball area. This is the kick from

0:33:55 > 0:34:14

0:34:14 > 0:34:19Jackson. The Dragons for offside. A between them. The Dragons coaching

0:34:19 > 0:34:23staff will be very happy with this. They have less numbers than Ulster

0:34:23 > 0:34:33but they are influential. They don't many have the debt that

0:34:33 > 0:34:34

0:34:34 > 0:34:41Ulster have with the number of injuries. Jackson at the restart.

0:34:41 > 0:34:48This could be interesting. Well taken. By Martyn Thomas. That is a

0:34:48 > 0:34:58good forward ball from the men in Black. He has a little think. He is

0:34:58 > 0:34:58

0:34:58 > 0:35:08determined not to be stood up again. Two very good tackles. Nathan Buck.

0:35:08 > 0:35:18The tight head. Tom Willis. Declan Fitzpatrick. Wayne Evans has a

0:35:18 > 0:35:22

0:35:22 > 0:35:30glance. Henry underneath. Knocks it backwards. The crowd disagrees. I

0:35:30 > 0:35:36think that was overruled. The touch judge said it was knocked forward.

0:35:36 > 0:35:46Tonderai Chavhanga. He scored six tries against Uruguay won his

0:35:46 > 0:35:57

0:35:57 > 0:36:03Springboks debut in 2005. That is by Brady. The Ospreys looking to

0:36:03 > 0:36:07slow this down. They want this to be a frantic affair. Good

0:36:07 > 0:36:14experience coming through. Settling things down. The momentum is

0:36:14 > 0:36:24certainly with the Dragons. Ulster cannot afford to lose any more

0:36:24 > 0:36:42

0:36:42 > 0:36:48points by half-time. Andy Kyriacou Ulster Catt this evening. By the

0:36:48 > 0:36:58end of this season I am sure he will have reached his much coveted

0:36:58 > 0:37:03

0:37:03 > 0:37:07century. -- Ulster Cup. Ian Whitten, he is halfway there. He Willie

0:37:07 > 0:37:12Faloon, standing on the outside- half position for Ulster. That'll

0:37:12 > 0:37:22be a defensive positions of the Ulster scrummage only has two men

0:37:22 > 0:37:39

0:37:39 > 0:37:46in the back row. To flank forwards, tight-head side. The referee has

0:37:46 > 0:37:56not called stop. It is ticking away. Half-an-hour played. 13 - 3, the

0:37:56 > 0:38:15

0:38:15 > 0:38:20Dragons. He is seeing exactly what Chavhanga. Into some space. The

0:38:20 > 0:38:26referee spotted the Dragons midfield. They moved back and

0:38:26 > 0:38:33Ulster have done well to achieve that. It isn't completely done and

0:38:33 > 0:38:40dusted. Ulster have gone outside the 22. Jackson gets it away. Just

0:38:40 > 0:38:49as far as Martyn Thomas. Andrew Coombs, the flank forward. He makes

0:38:49 > 0:38:54good ground. Well gathered. It came off Ian Whitten. That will be And

0:38:54 > 0:38:57Dragons line-out. They will want to correct that issue at a line-out,

0:38:57 > 0:39:03which is the Ulster players pouring through to put pressure on half-

0:39:03 > 0:39:07back. They need to tighten up numbers and protect that line. Or

0:39:07 > 0:39:17they need to bring it down and start driving, just to keep the

0:39:17 > 0:39:17

0:39:17 > 0:39:25Ulster players honest. Tom Willis, the Dragons skipper. Untidy, but it

0:39:25 > 0:39:34was put in. Jason Tovey. Actually, Ashley Smith. Concedes some metres.

0:39:34 > 0:39:44Willie Faloon gets himself out of the way. And Pedrie Wannenburg,

0:39:44 > 0:39:52

0:39:52 > 0:39:57gets himself offside. Henry will be the pitch. On you go. He could not

0:39:57 > 0:40:02be care, he told him to have a word with his players and Jason Tovey

0:40:02 > 0:40:06shapes up to take a kick at goal. After three minutes and the skin,

0:40:06 > 0:40:13you could see that was an area that he would police strictly. Ulster

0:40:13 > 0:40:16have to adapt to that. He has been extremely accurate and out. It will

0:40:16 > 0:40:25be a source of points for the Dragons if Ulster do not correct

0:40:25 > 0:40:35that area. It seems that every week players have to adapt to the

0:40:35 > 0:40:38

0:40:38 > 0:40:45referee. Jason Tovey, and that little left-footed chip. And the

0:40:45 > 0:40:51same result. There is a gap of 13 points. Nevin Spence comes back

0:40:51 > 0:40:57onto the field. And the Dragons, what their opponents down to 14 men,

0:40:57 > 0:41:03did exactly what they had to do. They rattled up 10 points. This is

0:41:03 > 0:41:13very intelligent rugby. They did very well to take advantage of that

0:41:13 > 0:41:19

0:41:19 > 0:41:23security. Well taken in on the ten- metre line. Gavin Thomas. When

0:41:23 > 0:41:33Evans, looks to his nearside and changed his mind. Ashley Smith

0:41:33 > 0:41:42

0:41:42 > 0:41:50Dragons. They want to cut this deficit. Nevin Spence, back on, he

0:41:51 > 0:41:55will be contrite about that sending off. Definitely being held. Some

0:41:55 > 0:42:00excellent speed from Ulster and indecision from the Dragons. Taking

0:42:00 > 0:42:05the ball into contact from a less dominant position. And Willie

0:42:05 > 0:42:15Faloon was straight over the ball. And the penalty was duly awarded.

0:42:15 > 0:42:40

0:42:40 > 0:42:44You cannot criticise the mistake whatsoever. From long range.

0:42:44 > 0:42:50And that Young Ulster fan is very supportive of that very Young

0:42:50 > 0:42:53Ulster outside-half, Paddy Jackson is just 19 years of age. From a

0:42:53 > 0:42:57similar position and it was a crucial score. The Dragons were

0:42:57 > 0:43:07getting into that 15 point margin. And this just brings it back for

0:43:07 > 0:43:13Ulster. A Marshall takes it in. finds a pretty decent bounce. On

0:43:13 > 0:43:22the roof of that brand new commentary position! The last time,

0:43:22 > 0:43:32we were in what was more less a garden shed. Evans. Pedrie

0:43:32 > 0:43:42Wannenburg. The Dragons have done well. Jones, to his partner in

0:43:42 > 0:43:42

0:43:42 > 0:43:52crime. Heavens back inside to the loose head prop, Nathan Williams.

0:43:52 > 0:43:56

0:43:56 > 0:44:03Jason Tovey. Gavin Thomas, tackled Adam D'Arcy, that was an awkward,

0:44:03 > 0:44:11slippery ball. Martyn Thomas. Gets away from the first tackle. Then he

0:44:11 > 0:44:15loses his feet. Wayne Evans. Dangerous time for Ulster. Another

0:44:15 > 0:44:24penalty would probably do them. Well through. Wayne Evans has done

0:44:24 > 0:44:32well. Good, aggressive play at the breakdown by the home team. Adam

0:44:32 > 0:44:39Jones acting as scrum half. Nathan Buck, the tight-head, is there.

0:44:39 > 0:44:46Good work from Declan Fitzpatrick. Jason Tovey. Where will that

0:44:46 > 0:44:56Barnes? Very kind. It just broke into the left and into touch. Taken

0:44:56 > 0:45:10

0:45:10 > 0:45:14Scrum. Black ball. The touch judge on the far side called it and said

0:45:14 > 0:45:20that the quick Ulster throw was taken inside the five metre line,

0:45:20 > 0:45:28which you're not allowed to do. It was not deliberate, but it was an

0:45:28 > 0:45:33infringement. That is got work. This is crucial for Ulster. To give

0:45:33 > 0:45:43away points with less than three minutes on the clock would be

0:45:43 > 0:45:43

0:45:43 > 0:45:48desperate for their ambitions to get a result away from home. It got

0:45:48 > 0:45:58untidy at the Ulster loose head siefpltd Ulster are ten points

0:45:58 > 0:45:58

0:45:58 > 0:46:08adrift. Another dry -- try for Dragons would not be on Bryan

0:46:08 > 0:46:23

0:46:23 > 0:46:29McLaughlin's agenda I have a Trying to bring in the left-wing.

0:46:29 > 0:46:36Evans looking for the big men and he has found one in Buck. A change

0:46:36 > 0:46:41in direction on the cards. Tovey with a chip. That was almost there.

0:46:41 > 0:46:45It wasn't a bad kick. Paul Marshall has been caught offside and the

0:46:45 > 0:46:53referee has given a penalty against Ulster. I haven't been keeping

0:46:53 > 0:46:57Tally, how much penalties is that Ulster have given away? Its will be

0:46:57 > 0:47:02in double figures. The Dragons are filling their bats with the

0:47:02 > 0:47:08opportunities that have been created from them. -- filling their

0:47:08 > 0:47:12boots. Last year Ulster put in some excellent prmm -- performances away

0:47:13 > 0:47:17from home. This is the second in a row and it is not going plan,

0:47:17 > 0:47:23because of the error count. They're going to have look at some

0:47:23 > 0:47:32communication. That is generally what it is when you're always being

0:47:32 > 0:47:37pinged for offside. You need a real communication across the team.

0:47:37 > 0:47:43player does it again, another penalty for him. The Dragons are 13

0:47:43 > 0:47:50points up in the last minute of the first half and the Dragons leading

0:47:50 > 0:47:5519-6. And Paul Marshall strieing offside. Ulster are always going to

0:47:55 > 0:48:05be susceptible to those penalties, they employ tremendous line speed.

0:48:05 > 0:48:15

0:48:15 > 0:48:20But they're going to have to give always under pressure, he was going

0:48:20 > 0:48:28to bring them back for the scrummage, but he has decided he

0:48:28 > 0:48:35has seen enough of this half. The same will probably be said by Bryan

0:48:35 > 0:48:45McGlabg Lynne. They have fallen to the kicking of Tovey. Half time

0:48:45 > 0:48:49

0:48:49 > 0:48:53here at a throbbing Rodney Parade It was not the response that Ulster

0:48:53 > 0:48:58were looking for after last week's defeat. It has been a bit flat and

0:48:58 > 0:49:04the Dragons have taken this game by the scruff of the neck through the

0:49:04 > 0:49:09boot of Tovey and the pace of Tonderai Chavhanga. Too many

0:49:09 > 0:49:15mistakes and too many penalties. A yellow card and they paid the price

0:49:15 > 0:49:21as the home side scored ten points. Ulster clinging on just about

0:49:21 > 0:49:28thanks to the boot of Paddy Jackson. At half time they trail by 13

0:49:28 > 0:49:38points. Not looking too good for Ulster. It is the Dragons 19 and

0:49:38 > 0:49:39

0:49:39 > 0:49:43Ulster 6. Well that is not the response that the coach wanted.

0:49:43 > 0:49:46this is something we talked about, how we wanted to sea what sort of a

0:49:46 > 0:49:52performance we would put in after what happened last week. This is

0:49:52 > 0:49:56not it. There is no energy, there doesn't seem to be much going

0:49:57 > 0:50:03forward. All the clinical things you expect from professionals is

0:50:03 > 0:50:07not happening. It is dire. We heard from Dan tuelee saying Ulster

0:50:07 > 0:50:13weren't physical enough this week and they weren't this week. No we

0:50:13 > 0:50:18have done everything in ones, we have tackled and rucked in ones. If

0:50:18 > 0:50:24there is one factor, the game we played last week was on a Sunday,

0:50:24 > 0:50:28we have had a four day turn around and this a difficult. Your

0:50:28 > 0:50:33associate with having a week in between. There has not been a lot

0:50:33 > 0:50:37of time to recover. But they will be getting a roasting at half time.

0:50:37 > 0:50:43It is a young team, last week was a confidence sapper, are you seeing

0:50:43 > 0:50:48that having an impact? Yes how is it going to impact on these young

0:50:48 > 0:50:56guys and how will they bounce back from what happened last week? At

0:50:56 > 0:51:01the minute it would appear they haven't bounced back well.

0:51:01 > 0:51:08Physicalty is king in the game and that is very poor. If they're not

0:51:08 > 0:51:13careful, it could be a bigger score line. Let's look at some of the

0:51:13 > 0:51:17early opportunities. Ulster road their luck when Gilroy took a high

0:51:17 > 0:51:27their luck when Gilroy took a high ball. It looked as if it was

0:51:27 > 0:51:27

0:51:27 > 0:51:33knocked on. We were all surprised, but gill -- Gilroy made the pass.

0:51:33 > 0:51:39But we have made a lot of unforced errors. And in the wrong part of

0:51:39 > 0:51:46the pitch. If we have cocked it up in their half, they have resorted

0:51:46 > 0:51:52to batting t down the field. Later on there is a break from this,

0:51:52 > 0:51:56Chavhanga catches. That tackle has to be made. Had we made those

0:51:56 > 0:52:02tackle, another tackle. He should not be running through that much

0:52:02 > 0:52:07traffic and get a kick off. That has gone 80 yards and then we knock

0:52:07 > 0:52:12on, ten yards from our own line. We have missed a tackle. Good break,

0:52:12 > 0:52:18but we're off the pace. We're that half a second bemiepdz. This guy is

0:52:18 > 0:52:25electric, but he shouldn't be given that pace. Whitten will be

0:52:25 > 0:52:32disappointed with the tackle. It will have been emphasised you must

0:52:32 > 0:52:37take this guy down. Ulster didn't have a lot of ball. But when they

0:52:38 > 0:52:41did, they seemed to make a lot of mistakes. It doesn't seem a

0:52:41 > 0:52:45composed performance. We need our senior players stepping up and

0:52:45 > 0:52:50taking the sting out of things. Some of our set piece functions

0:52:50 > 0:52:56better. That is one of the best scrums in a fortnight. Burr we

0:52:56 > 0:52:59can't afford those little errors. Swre worked lard to get into that -

0:52:59 > 0:53:04- we have worked hard to get into that position and then turned it

0:53:04 > 0:53:10off. One of the first guys back there was a prop. Look what happens

0:53:10 > 0:53:16here. Look at the urgency to get to these rucks. The work rate off the

0:53:16 > 0:53:25ball. Again a poor pass. We have lost 30 metres there and we're

0:53:25 > 0:53:29kicking it away. Pad ji -- Paddy Jackson. I thought it was a good

0:53:29 > 0:53:35option. He had the rate idea. He was trying to put it on a pin point

0:53:35 > 0:53:39and it didn't happen. Are Ulster lacking a bit of leadership?

0:53:39 > 0:53:43think so. We're missing direction as well. It might be an option to

0:53:43 > 0:53:49move Whitten into inside centre and try and get him with the ball that

0:53:49 > 0:53:52we have from a line out that is functioning well. Let's try and

0:53:52 > 0:53:58shorten the targets and put something across the line and

0:53:58 > 0:54:02create some banana at the minute, as you can see, if we have tried to

0:54:02 > 0:54:06ball our accuracy hasn't been up to it. There will have to be a change.

0:54:06 > 0:54:10You complained about a lack of physicalty, the one man who has

0:54:10 > 0:54:17been physical is Spence, but unfortunately in the high tackle.

0:54:17 > 0:54:21He didn't need to make this high tackle. You can use the touch line.

0:54:21 > 0:54:30That is reckless. He needs to address that and he knows himself

0:54:30 > 0:54:36that is crazy. He had the -- to line him up and take him into touch.

0:54:36 > 0:54:43Ulster then paid the praise as you say teams do. They want to score

0:54:43 > 0:54:48when the other team are down to 14. From the line out, possibly a bit

0:54:48 > 0:54:53of naivety. We have kept everyone in there and you will see at the

0:54:53 > 0:54:58ends, we're caught numbers down in the backs. On the far side of this

0:54:58 > 0:55:03ruck. They make some reasonably ball here. Once and then twice.

0:55:03 > 0:55:08We're putting guys, you can see them coming across. But there is

0:55:08 > 0:55:16space there and threfr done it simply. It is a mismatch. The ball

0:55:16 > 0:55:22in two hands, two guys stay out and Luke March hall has got two men on

0:55:22 > 0:55:26him. -- Marshall. We have been critical of Ulster, but some credit

0:55:26 > 0:55:31to the Dragons. Ulster are a man down and they have recycled the

0:55:31 > 0:55:35ball quick. But it comes down to Ulster's physicalty, they have got

0:55:35 > 0:55:39to step up to the plate. You have got to do than just make a tackle.

0:55:39 > 0:55:45You have got to climb into the tackles. That is not happening and

0:55:45 > 0:55:50it is having an effect through the team. Thank you. As we assess the

0:55:50 > 0:55:55game, that is what Tulse coaching staff are doing. Technology now

0:55:55 > 0:56:05part and parcel of the game. As Gavin Andrews found out when he met

0:56:05 > 0:56:09

0:56:09 > 0:56:17a key member of the one of the Him the performance analysis with

0:56:17 > 0:56:21the Ulster rugby team. This is where the hard work gets down. My

0:56:21 > 0:56:27work is down following the game. I work is down following the game. I

0:56:27 > 0:56:32will go home and the information will be broken down into different

0:56:32 > 0:56:37areas relating to attack and ge fence. This game we have won 13

0:56:37 > 0:56:40line outs and lost two. And also we provide information for the

0:56:40 > 0:56:46individual players. This information is available to the

0:56:46 > 0:56:52players within 48 hours of the game and they can come in and by a click

0:56:52 > 0:57:00of a button, a video will come up. With Dan Tuohy, here he has made

0:57:00 > 0:57:05three tackles. By pressing the button, each of the tackles will

0:57:05 > 0:57:08button, each of the tackles will come up. It has a huge benefit in

0:57:08 > 0:57:16terms of doing one-on-ones with the players and we can put together

0:57:16 > 0:57:22information over a number of games. I spend more hours in the analysis

0:57:22 > 0:57:29room than on the training pitch now. Just putting the hours in, it pace

0:57:29 > 0:57:33dividends on the pitch. -- pays dividends. A great take by Tuohy.

0:57:33 > 0:57:39The greatest development is we carry out live analysis and gate

0:57:39 > 0:57:43feed during the game and we're in a position where we can review it and

0:57:43 > 0:57:47you're trying to make interventions to the players u based on what is

0:57:47 > 0:57:55and isn't happening on the pitch. It is different from last year,

0:57:55 > 0:58:00when you were standing at the back and you were watching different

0:58:00 > 0:58:06trends and now I'm able to do that by standing behind and then I can

0:58:06 > 0:58:12look at the scrums and line outs on the monitors. So it is essential.

0:58:12 > 0:58:17One aspect is the amount of work we do pre-game and where we focus on

0:58:17 > 0:58:22the opposition. A couple of weeks ago with Cardiff, we have a centre

0:58:22 > 0:58:27who likes to shoot out a line. He comes racing out of line. Our ehope

0:58:27 > 0:58:35was to get the ball to Spence and he can drop to it Whitten. And Ian

0:58:35 > 0:58:40got through the gap, he fed down to Cave and it was an important try.

0:58:40 > 0:58:49You try to pick holes in what they do and when something like that

0:58:49 > 0:58:58comes off it is a great feeling. wonder how Alex and the team are

0:58:58 > 0:59:03assessing what has been a video nasty for Ulster? It it wouldn't be

0:59:03 > 0:59:07great viewing, but it is interesting to see Dan Tuohy

0:59:07 > 0:59:11spending time in the analysis room. Maybe they need to get on the pitch

0:59:11 > 0:59:16and do more work. You said it not me. They need a big second half

0:59:16 > 0:59:22response to prove a point or two? Yes and yes they can. But they have

0:59:22 > 0:59:30to change the way they're playing, I could see two or three early

0:59:30 > 0:59:40changes. Possibly Marshall dropping out of back line and try and punch

0:59:40 > 0:59:42

0:59:42 > 0:59:46some holes and get our forwards The talk about the simple game.

0:59:46 > 0:59:52Last season, Ulster played in territory and kept things simple.

0:59:52 > 0:59:56Is that key? We are trying to play a lot of rugby and that has not

0:59:56 > 1:00:01functioned well particularly well. They should never go after some

1:00:01 > 1:00:04more of those. Start again. We have seen them playing rugby in the

1:00:04 > 1:00:09middle of the park and the not getting any flow. They don't have

1:00:09 > 1:00:14to run with the ball every single time they get it? The key is

1:00:14 > 1:00:19holding on to it, going through the phases, whenever you can find a

1:00:19 > 1:00:25whole, get the penalty and the referee has been very sharp around

1:00:25 > 1:00:30the breakdown. The Dragons suffered initially and Ulster have picked up

1:00:30 > 1:00:40the worst end of what is going on. Thank you both. Back to the

1:00:40 > 1:00:46

1:00:46 > 1:00:56Jackson. Paul Marshall has given that a huge one up. Well covered by

1:00:56 > 1:00:58

1:00:58 > 1:01:05Jason Tovey. -- one up. Paul Marshall. He gets away from the

1:01:05 > 1:01:15Dragons try-scorer, Tom Riley. Marshall. Well covered by Martyn

1:01:15 > 1:01:18

1:01:18 > 1:01:28Thomas. Gilroy. That is a rare kick from him. The that bounced Handley

1:01:28 > 1:01:28

1:01:28 > 1:01:34for the Dragons. Here comes Thomas. Ian Whitten. Did not quite make

1:01:34 > 1:01:39contact but that isn't too bad. Well covered by Andrew Coombs. All

1:01:39 > 1:01:46the time in the world and nobody being put under any pressure. Gets

1:01:46 > 1:01:52that forward. The referee playing advantage and can the Dragons take

1:01:52 > 1:01:57advantage? They have extra men moving. That is good support play.

1:01:57 > 1:02:07Tonderai Chavhanga. The referee still playing advantage? Knocked

1:02:07 > 1:02:17forward by the Dragons. Chris Henry. There was a let-off there for the

1:02:17 > 1:02:18

1:02:18 > 1:02:26men in white. Well covered by Jason Tovey. No deal row. Jason Tovey,

1:02:26 > 1:02:29tiptoes into touch. A date has been high tempo than there have been a

1:02:29 > 1:02:34lot of errors but that has played into that nature we have seen

1:02:34 > 1:02:40throughout. And that thing continues into the second half.

1:02:40 > 1:02:49Real opportunities for the Dragons earlier on. Lovely, round that

1:02:49 > 1:02:54corner past. Excellent work to recover. 4th Ulster have cut the

1:02:54 > 1:03:00line-out to just five men. Marshall. Jackson does well. Luke Marshall

1:03:00 > 1:03:10breaks away. He needs some help, quickly. Looking for Henry. The

1:03:10 > 1:03:13

1:03:13 > 1:03:20skipper off loads. Nevin Spence gets up again. Penny Jackson. Lewis

1:03:20 > 1:03:30Stephenson. Good position from Ulster, just between the Dragons

1:03:30 > 1:03:30

1:03:30 > 1:03:40posts. Jackson, Adam D'Arcy. He ran into a raft of black jerseys.

1:03:40 > 1:03:41

1:03:41 > 1:03:46Pedrie Wannenburg. Slides away from the opening tackle. Jackson. Again,

1:03:46 > 1:03:56the Dragons defence is pretty good. Also need that line breaker. Here

1:03:56 > 1:04:06comes Pedrie Wannenburg. Marshall, again. Patrick Jackson. Ian Whitten.

1:04:06 > 1:04:10

1:04:10 > 1:04:16Good strength. He stood up to that was Nevin Spence, he gives away the

1:04:16 > 1:04:23penalty. And a very good Ulster attack. And a very good position

1:04:23 > 1:04:27given away. Just when it looked like Ulster were starting to

1:04:27 > 1:04:30develop, making inroads, and all it takes is to be caught slightly

1:04:30 > 1:04:40upright in the tackle and lose that collision and the defensive team

1:04:40 > 1:04:49

1:04:49 > 1:04:59gets it. Marshall just could not Henry, he needed somebody quicker

1:04:59 > 1:04:59

1:05:00 > 1:05:08on the outside. The Dragons won their own line-out. The other four

1:05:08 > 1:05:14are in the middle, grafting away. Jason Tovey, in position. Yes. Well

1:05:14 > 1:05:22taken by Adam D'Arcy. At a glance... Good offload. Was that knocked

1:05:22 > 1:05:27forward? Dear, dear, dear. How many little, silly errors have Ulster

1:05:27 > 1:05:31considered? Just handling errors, it does not let them develop their

1:05:31 > 1:05:37patterns at crucial times. The Dragons have come out with that

1:05:37 > 1:05:42your plan and they're not playing any rugby in their own half. They

1:05:42 > 1:05:52are looking to play this second half deep into Ulster territory.

1:05:52 > 1:06:04

1:06:04 > 1:06:10Neil Patterson, a former air the second half. Fitzpatrick, the

1:06:10 > 1:06:14culprit. This could make it a very tough evening. If Jason Tovey

1:06:15 > 1:06:21continues to be on target. reason to believe he will not be.

1:06:21 > 1:06:28Some distance in this. But he has looked very good and it takes that

1:06:28 > 1:06:37margin out. It makes it a difficult proposition for Ulster. Jason Tovey.

1:06:37 > 1:06:40Four penalties and one conversion already. 19 points. He broke Ulster

1:06:40 > 1:06:47hearts in 2009 when he landed a hat-trick in this very ground in

1:06:47 > 1:06:57awful conditions. The conditions tonight are simply perfect. For

1:06:57 > 1:06:58

1:06:58 > 1:07:08running and kicking. And he has got that one. Well, Ulster have a lot

1:07:08 > 1:07:09

1:07:09 > 1:07:13to do. If any bonus point will be achieved. 22 - 64 the Dragons. And

1:07:13 > 1:07:23all but five of those courtesy of Jason Tovey. Paul Marshall has gone

1:07:23 > 1:07:41

1:07:41 > 1:07:46off the field. Ian Porter has come opportunity for Ulster. Important

1:07:46 > 1:07:49that they lead with some points. Very few incursions into the half

1:07:49 > 1:07:57of the Dragons and it is crucial that they convert this territory

1:07:58 > 1:08:02into points. So straight into action. Adam Macklin. And also Ian

1:08:03 > 1:08:08Porter, formerly of Queen's University. Not too many chances to

1:08:08 > 1:08:18shine when they were not Ulster. Paul Marshall used to dominate at

1:08:18 > 1:08:26No. 9 jersey. For going in against Nathan Williams. Good position, got

1:08:26 > 1:08:31that right, Paul Tergat sat away nicely. Patrick Jackson. Pedrie

1:08:31 > 1:08:36Wannenburg. Crashes into the defence. The Dragons slowly get out

1:08:36 > 1:08:46of the way. Well picked up by Declan Fitzpatrick under difficult

1:08:46 > 1:08:48

1:08:48 > 1:08:58circumstances. Ian Porter, quicker ball. Luke Marshall. Chris Henry,

1:08:58 > 1:08:59

1:08:59 > 1:09:07the captain. Slow ball. Well taken by Patrick Jackson, nearly got away.

1:09:08 > 1:09:17Good support play from the centres. Better continuity from Ulster. Here

1:09:17 > 1:09:27is Ian Porter, Pedrie Wannenburg. Across 22. Good pass again. Patrick

1:09:27 > 1:09:32Jackson, very nearly squeezed through. Ian Porter. Adam Macklin.

1:09:32 > 1:09:36The Ulster scrum. Ulster are going through multiple phases I'm looking

1:09:36 > 1:09:42for some opportunities to break this defence down. Pedrie

1:09:42 > 1:09:45Wannenburg very prominent. Making some worthy in roads. They will

1:09:45 > 1:09:55have to work hard to break the Strachan's defence but they are in

1:09:55 > 1:09:59

1:09:59 > 1:10:03the right part of the pitch. It is up to the experienced players in

1:10:03 > 1:10:07the Ulster team and there isn't a lot of the than to step forward and

1:10:07 > 1:10:17take control of this. The likes of Pedrie Wannenburg and Chris Henry.

1:10:17 > 1:10:20

1:10:20 > 1:10:28Dan Tuohy, Nigel Brady. To really galvanise this Ulster team.

1:10:28 > 1:10:38Willis, he won his first cap way back into 1002. He has enjoyed his

1:10:38 > 1:10:38

1:10:39 > 1:10:43time here. When he has not been injured, he has enjoyed his time.

1:10:43 > 1:10:53This man has not been given any reason whatsoever. Tonderai

1:10:53 > 1:11:18

1:11:18 > 1:11:25Chavhanga. The Ospreys are leading at the scrum. Much better than a

1:11:25 > 1:11:35week ago when Ulster got mangled by the Ospreys. Ulster have split the

1:11:35 > 1:11:50

1:11:50 > 1:11:57easy an option and it gives three points. Ulster will have to score

1:11:57 > 1:12:01more but this isn't a bad place to start. Tim Barker warming up on the

1:12:01 > 1:12:05sidelines, he will be introduced shortly. Trying to introduce the

1:12:05 > 1:12:11fresh reserves to try to change the nature of the game, which has so

1:12:11 > 1:12:19far going against them. Patrick Jackson with both of those first

1:12:20 > 1:12:24half penalties for Ulster. If he gets this one and a couple of tries,

1:12:24 > 1:12:33he could win for Ulster. Or maybe we're becoming a little bit

1:12:33 > 1:12:38ambitious! That was a confident kick from Patrick Jackson. Ulster

1:12:38 > 1:12:48up to 89 points and the Dragons on 22. 13 between them. Tim Barker is

1:12:48 > 1:12:50

1:12:50 > 1:13:00coming on. The Dragons have made a change. Phil Price, No. 17, has

1:13:00 > 1:13:03

1:13:03 > 1:13:06come on. And the vastly experienced Tim Barker, son for his 61st Ulster

1:13:06 > 1:13:16appearance and his 86th league appearance. He had a few for

1:13:16 > 1:13:26

1:13:26 > 1:13:36Glasgow. That was confident front little bit. Well taken by Thomas.

1:13:36 > 1:14:05

1:14:05 > 1:14:09Dragons inside the Ulster half. the penalty given away. The Jason

1:14:09 > 1:14:14Tovey will look to go deep with this. How the Dragons sort of their

1:14:14 > 1:14:17line-out? A lot of intelligent play to the first half when they

1:14:17 > 1:14:24repeatedly tapped the ball back as Ulster players were pouring through.

1:14:24 > 1:14:30We are looking from -- for more security from them. That was a good

1:14:30 > 1:14:40kick. The tight-head prop, Nathan Buck, in just his second start for

1:14:40 > 1:15:18

1:15:18 > 1:15:26Ulster tackles and Ulster gets the penalty and they will be relieved

1:15:26 > 1:15:36by that. Holding on in the tackle by Poole. A former cage fighter.

1:15:36 > 1:15:40Played over 70 times at for the local club. Ulster flooding back in

1:15:40 > 1:15:45numbers to try and put out that break. Henry got his hands on the

1:15:45 > 1:15:53ball and wasn't going to let go. Hearts in their mouths for moment.

1:15:53 > 1:15:59A great line and Henry affects the tackle. An excellent piece of back

1:15:59 > 1:16:09row play. Staid on his feet and grafted away. Did well. And Paddy

1:16:09 > 1:16:13Jackson has put in an excellent kick from well inside his 22 to the

1:16:13 > 1:16:21Dragons' 22-line. 26 minutes of this half remaining. Tkwrouv hang

1:16:21 > 1:16:31on, there is a problem -- you have to hack on - hang on, there is a

1:16:31 > 1:16:34

1:16:34 > 1:16:39problem with the communication with the assistant referee. That does

1:16:39 > 1:16:49not seem to be working. They may have to get a replacement to avoid

1:16:49 > 1:16:58

1:16:58 > 1:17:05this game being held up any longer. Neil Patterson's dad, John, who

1:17:05 > 1:17:11have known for many years, was a more than decent full back and won

1:17:11 > 1:17:21the old Ulster senior league back in the 70s. Played with people like

1:17:21 > 1:17:37

1:17:37 > 1:17:47Joe McKinney. The brother of from Menary. Porter quickly in

1:17:47 > 1:18:04

1:18:04 > 1:18:14again. Made quite an impact in this awkward pass. Fitzpatrick has taken

1:18:14 > 1:18:16

1:18:16 > 1:18:25off his head gear. Well gathered BIFA loon. He had to stretch for it

1:18:25 > 1:18:34-- well gathered by Faloon. A penalty for Ulster for crossing.

1:18:34 > 1:18:40Well Bryan McLaughlin and company will be encouraged by that play.

1:18:40 > 1:18:46Porter spots the gap, he is looking for a player and Henry does that

1:18:46 > 1:18:53well. And then it is overenthusiasm in getting too many bodies around

1:18:53 > 1:19:00the corn hear the created the crossing penalty./- around the

1:19:00 > 1:19:10corner, that created the crossing penalty. Luke Marshall got a bit in

1:19:10 > 1:19:11

1:19:11 > 1:19:19front of the ball I think. Another replacement coming on for the

1:19:19 > 1:19:29Dragons. There is Luke Marshall, another who is only 206789 Evans

1:19:29 > 1:19:33

1:19:33 > 1:19:43has gone on. And wearing 20 is Groves. Ulster will make a change.

1:19:43 > 1:19:56

1:19:56 > 1:20:01Faloon will go off and Diack is on his opposite number. That should

1:20:01 > 1:20:06be an Ulster line out. Excellent defence from Gilroy. Showed the man

1:20:06 > 1:20:10the outside and then the power that we're used to seeing in his

1:20:10 > 1:20:20attacking runs, translating into his defensive duties. Just over a

1:20:20 > 1:20:29quarter of the game remaining, but Ulster needs points. Well taken,

1:20:30 > 1:20:39the referee had a long look and decided he did not pass it forward.

1:20:40 > 1:21:02

1:21:02 > 1:21:09row. Thomas wisely lets it drift into his 22 and what a good kick

1:21:09 > 1:21:15that is. But hasn't found his touch. It is a mess by Porter. Darcy

1:21:15 > 1:21:24better be careful. Ulster just about got away with that. Tuohy has

1:21:24 > 1:21:29cleaned it up. The Dragons have a man down injured, Paddy Jackson

1:21:29 > 1:21:36dean -- deep inside his 22. He can't kick it directly into touch

1:21:36 > 1:21:46though. They have to be wary about staying onside. The game has broken

1:21:46 > 1:21:46

1:21:46 > 1:22:30Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

1:22:30 > 1:22:40Henry, did he come through gate? Wannenburg told to release and he

1:22:40 > 1:22:49

1:22:49 > 1:22:59looked to his touch judge, who said it wasn't forward. I thought it was

1:22:59 > 1:23:01

1:23:01 > 1:23:07a nudge forward. The crowd do not like Mr Patterson's decision,

1:23:07 > 1:23:10holding on in the tackle. Dragons lacking dangerous again,

1:23:10 > 1:23:17going through multiple phases. There is something on that ball,

1:23:17 > 1:23:25whether it is the due or the per spaigswiegs -- per spiration from

1:23:25 > 1:23:35the players. Jackson finds his touch. 20 minutes remaining and 13

1:23:35 > 1:23:35

1:23:35 > 1:24:27Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

1:24:27 > 1:24:31points between them. This is Willis, Darcy has made decent ground. The

1:24:31 > 1:24:39Dragons looking for a turn over and they have got it. A kick through by

1:24:39 > 1:24:45Ulster. The ball was out. The referee said there was an Ulster

1:24:45 > 1:24:49knock forward. That finishing touch is not there. You have seen an

1:24:49 > 1:24:55increase in the energy levels. You see Chavhanga getting the head in

1:24:55 > 1:25:02the wrong position and falling badly after that, one suspects he

1:25:02 > 1:25:09may have got a bad p knock to the Ed. -- bad knock to the head. I am

1:25:10 > 1:25:19not sure sure if he will take much of a further part. In boxing terms,

1:25:19 > 1:25:25he may be taking a standing eight count. He ran into the solid Derry

1:25:25 > 1:25:33air of Luke Marshall! A couple of more changes for the Dragons.

1:25:33 > 1:25:43Buckley is coming on to replace the skipper, Tom Willis. No 21 Joe

1:25:43 > 1:26:05

1:26:05 > 1:26:10Ulster will feel if they can get next on the score board that they

1:26:10 > 1:26:13will still be in with an opportunity to win. For the Dragons,

1:26:13 > 1:26:18if they can score, they will developed a cushion to take them

1:26:18 > 1:26:25through. The next score crucial in determining the outcome of this

1:26:25 > 1:26:30game. Just six points scored in this second half. Three apiece. A

1:26:30 > 1:26:35penalty by Tovey and a penalty by Jackson. But crucially the opening

1:26:35 > 1:26:4140 minutes saw the Dragons lead by 19-6. At the moment Ulster have a

1:26:41 > 1:26:51bit to do even to come away with a losing bonus point. They paid

1:26:51 > 1:27:15

1:27:16 > 1:27:19heavily for that period where they referee. The Dragons piling in, if

1:27:19 > 1:27:24they can turn it over. They have done better. They have got a

1:27:24 > 1:27:31penalty. This could be end game for Ulster. Excellent work by Chavhanga,

1:27:31 > 1:27:41chasing that kick and then it was the Dragons arriving in numbers

1:27:41 > 1:27:43

1:27:43 > 1:27:50that forced Ulster to infringe and a penalty awarded. I wonder what he

1:27:50 > 1:28:00will make of his Dragons day but a? The drargons claiming that space

1:28:00 > 1:28:13

1:28:13 > 1:28:21and getting -- Dragons claiming And he has done! Came off the posts.

1:28:21 > 1:28:28Ulster still have a bit to do to get this away. Darcy does just that.

1:28:28 > 1:28:38So it stays at Dragons 22, Ulster 9, 16 minutes remaining and Tovey very

1:28:38 > 1:29:00

1:29:00 > 1:29:07close inseed. Just shaved the trying to create another penalty

1:29:07 > 1:29:14situation if they can. Ulster have to be careful. Buckley is having a

1:29:15 > 1:29:20glance to see what he can do. Only 22 years of age. And with World

1:29:20 > 1:29:30Cups and injuries, both sides calling on the depths of their

1:29:30 > 1:29:39

1:29:39 > 1:29:46squads. Bedford asking for runners. A penalty against the Dragons.

1:29:46 > 1:29:50Dragons unable to get the Ulster players away from those fringing

1:29:50 > 1:29:54positions and Wannenburg stepped forward and claimed the ball. It is

1:29:54 > 1:30:00important now they can get depth in the kick. The game is still in the

1:30:00 > 1:30:10balance. Ulster have still got plenty of time to manufacture a

1:30:10 > 1:30:14

1:30:14 > 1:30:21winner. Ulster have taken off Darcy and Gaston is coming on. The

1:30:21 > 1:30:25Dragons are bringing on somebody called O'Driscoll. But it is

1:30:25 > 1:30:30Geraint O'Driscoll. The other one, Brian, is playing for Ireland in a

1:30:30 > 1:30:35crucial world cup game in the early hours of Sunday morning against

1:30:35 > 1:30:45Italy to determine the outcome of that pool. Only an Irish win will

1:30:45 > 1:31:02

1:31:02 > 1:31:12Dragons. Thomas is going off. No. 19, Darren Waters, coming on. Don't

1:31:12 > 1:31:19

1:31:19 > 1:31:26you just love the last 15 minutes at any game of modern rugby?! It

1:31:26 > 1:31:35Kieron Jenkins not at fault. I did not even see him come on. I don't

1:31:35 > 1:31:45think he has. A a real opportunity for Ulster. Ian Porter and Patrick

1:31:45 > 1:31:51

1:31:51 > 1:31:58Jackson discussing what move they will take from the playbook. Some

1:31:58 > 1:32:08nonsense from the Ulster tight-head side of the scrum. The Adam Macklin

1:32:08 > 1:32:16

1:32:16 > 1:32:26this done quickly. The right strike. It they have only got Craig Gilroy

1:32:26 > 1:32:33

1:32:33 > 1:32:39Porter, Jackson, straight through. He just threw that, Willie Daly.

1:32:39 > 1:32:44And nor composure and Ulster should have been for the try. We certainly

1:32:44 > 1:32:52got that flat ball. It looked like he was maybe hit just as he went to

1:32:52 > 1:32:57make the tackle. And the ball flying at the back. It ruins

1:32:57 > 1:33:02Ulster's ambitions of an away win. The scrum was excellent and the

1:33:02 > 1:33:12pass was not bad and the initial break was good. It was just too

1:33:12 > 1:33:21

1:33:21 > 1:33:24getting a little attention. He has really been central. He has given

1:33:25 > 1:33:34field position through his kicking and most importantly, he has put

1:33:35 > 1:33:47

1:33:47 > 1:33:51over a lot of penalties and Matthew Jones on the bench, the

1:33:51 > 1:34:01former Welsh international. He could cover the gap. He has enjoyed

1:34:01 > 1:34:04

1:34:04 > 1:34:12himself. He has had some excellent games against Ulster. Sending Nevin

1:34:12 > 1:34:18Spence directly down that Channel to see how well he is. Jackson. Has

1:34:18 > 1:34:28to readjust that pass. Nobody really to his left, Ian Porter. And

1:34:28 > 1:34:32

1:34:32 > 1:34:38he noticed that. Taken all about Dan Tuohy. Luke Marshall. One hand

1:34:38 > 1:34:43it, by Declan Fitzpatrick. Spots the gap. Nicely offloaded. Nigel

1:34:43 > 1:34:50Brady. That was a good step from the 32 year-old hooker. Here is

1:34:50 > 1:35:00Jackson. Surely they must score? And into the corner! The referee

1:35:00 > 1:35:03

1:35:03 > 1:35:12might go upstairs. I think he is going to go to Neil Ballard. Ian

1:35:12 > 1:35:19Whitten thought he was in. The his feet were off the ground. That

1:35:19 > 1:35:23there is a foot in touch. I think that his toe was untouched. Some

1:35:23 > 1:35:31excellent defensive work. Just managing to hold on to the foot.

1:35:31 > 1:35:39You cannot really see it from this angle. Was there any pressure down

1:35:39 > 1:35:49this angle? Nothing. There were some replays earlier. The grounding

1:35:49 > 1:35:50

1:35:50 > 1:35:59was good but the FT might have been in touch. Was that toll in touch?

1:35:59 > 1:36:07What will he in part to Ian Pattison? It looks like he was in

1:36:07 > 1:36:17touch. It could be the line-out for the Dragons. Five metres from the

1:36:17 > 1:36:27line and Ulster can put pressure. He was in touch. It OK. No try.

1:36:27 > 1:36:32

1:36:32 > 1:36:42food was in touch. Well... Hit of his toe. Bolstered desperate to

1:36:42 > 1:36:50salvage something from this game. - - Ulster. Very untidy. Free-kick

1:36:50 > 1:36:56against Ulster. He Ulster really needed to leave this field position

1:36:56 > 1:37:02with some points. It to have any chance of any ambition for the away

1:37:02 > 1:37:06win. They did not have the precision, the accuracy or the

1:37:06 > 1:37:12tactics to overcome this very spirited Dragons performance.

1:37:12 > 1:37:16Especially that man, Jason Tovey. He is struggling. But he is

1:37:16 > 1:37:25enjoying himself and still controlling this game. The Ulster

1:37:25 > 1:37:33moved the ball wide. It was a free- kick. The Dragons have kicked it

1:37:33 > 1:37:42into touch and it is an Ulster line-out. Jackson. Nevin Spence.

1:37:42 > 1:37:47Ashley Smith. Here comes Patrick Jackson. Good strength. Declan

1:37:47 > 1:37:54Fitzpatrick, cleans out. He got himself caught by the Dragons

1:37:54 > 1:38:04replacement prop, Neil Price. Still there, for Ulster. Knowing that Ian

1:38:04 > 1:38:06

1:38:06 > 1:38:10Porter is in there. And Ulster give away possession to the Dragons. And

1:38:10 > 1:38:16there is another Dragon's Eye player down injured. Ashley Smith

1:38:16 > 1:38:20put in that very strong tackle. That was a great tackle. He got his

1:38:20 > 1:38:25head not many in the right place but he broke down Nevin Spence.

1:38:25 > 1:38:29This comes at such pace and debt. He gets across the advantage line

1:38:29 > 1:38:35and that allows Ulster the platform to redevelop their play. There has

1:38:35 > 1:38:39been a noticeable increase in the increase in enthusiasm and energy

1:38:39 > 1:38:42from Ulster and at crucial parts of the pitch, they have turned over

1:38:42 > 1:38:48possession but have not been able to get that score to get them back

1:38:48 > 1:38:56into the game. It has been stopped to allow everyone and much-needed

1:38:56 > 1:39:04breather. Just over 10 minutes remaining. Ulster, 14 points adrift.

1:39:04 > 1:39:12A penalty would allow them the try. And the conversion. To get that

1:39:12 > 1:39:15losing bonus point. It has been a much better second half from Ulster

1:39:15 > 1:39:20in terms of possession and how they had used the ball. They just have

1:39:20 > 1:39:28not been able to get that quick through. I think it was the

1:39:28 > 1:39:36penalties in the first half that really work their undoing. And the

1:39:36 > 1:39:40Dragons set up at that form. Ulster were led in no small part by the

1:39:40 > 1:39:46substitutes in the second half but they have been unable to get that

1:39:46 > 1:39:53crucial score. And establish field position to let them go on.

1:39:53 > 1:40:03Ashley Smith is off the field and Matthew Jones, he will go into full

1:40:03 > 1:40:12

1:40:12 > 1:40:22Coombs. They will want to play sensible percentage rugby at this

1:40:22 > 1:40:29

1:40:29 > 1:40:34to do that but it has worked out very nicely. Looking to close this

1:40:34 > 1:40:39game out. Still 10 minutes on the clock. They wanted a percentage

1:40:39 > 1:40:44rugby, they will not take any chances in their own half. They can

1:40:44 > 1:40:48see that clock ticking away. will be a case of Ulster going back

1:40:48 > 1:40:58to the bad old days against Wales. With nothing to show for their

1:40:58 > 1:41:25

1:41:25 > 1:41:29opening fixtures away to Munster and Leinster. Their glad to be back

1:41:29 > 1:41:36home and to have this opportunity to put some points on the board.

1:41:36 > 1:41:46Such a lot of effort and money. To get this ground up to scratch. And

1:41:46 > 1:41:53it really is a nice little ground. Some of these modern stadiums are a

1:41:54 > 1:41:58little bit soulless. If you look at the Dragons players in that of

1:41:58 > 1:42:07Jersey performing outstandingly in New Zealand. They are on long-term

1:42:07 > 1:42:13contracts. He Dan Lydiate, Chalmers, on a sudden you and that new to us

1:42:14 > 1:42:20and the Dragons are starting to go somewhere. At the moment they are

1:42:20 > 1:42:30heading for their four. Win. The try was scored by the Dragons when

1:42:30 > 1:42:31

1:42:31 > 1:42:41Ulster were down to 14 men. A lot of tight forwards filtering away to

1:42:41 > 1:42:46the right hand side. Alan Jones takes the forward. Jason Tovey.

1:42:46 > 1:42:56Again, from position, that was a clever kick. Well taken by Conor

1:42:56 > 1:42:56

1:42:56 > 1:43:06Gaston. His first competitive game of the season. Ian Porter. Patrick

1:43:06 > 1:43:15Jackson. Matthew Jones, no problems with that one. He has found some

1:43:15 > 1:43:19space, that was a clever kick. Well covered by Craig Gilroy. From a

1:43:19 > 1:43:29narrow angle, that was not a bad kick but it will be the Dragons

1:43:29 > 1:43:29

1:43:29 > 1:43:34line-out. Six minutes to go. Dragons really looking to chose

1:43:34 > 1:43:38this game out. They set up their top four in the first half but that

1:43:38 > 1:43:45energy and now they're looking to grind down this result and climb up

1:43:45 > 1:43:55the board in the closing phases of this first six games. Taken by

1:43:55 > 1:43:58

1:43:58 > 1:44:08Andrew Coombs. The Dragons with all five replacements on the field.

1:44:08 > 1:44:10

1:44:10 > 1:44:15Ulster forcing them backwards. Jason Tovey might well be the Man

1:44:15 > 1:44:20of the Match, which will be of no great surprise to anybody. He

1:44:20 > 1:44:26scored five of the points for the Dragons. And the Dragons keep

1:44:26 > 1:44:30motoring along. Brady has to do some defending for Ulster. The

1:44:30 > 1:44:39dragons are finishing with a flourish. It has been a terrific

1:44:39 > 1:44:48evening. Bedford but that plans to his left. -- with that glance to

1:44:48 > 1:44:56his left. He decides to go to Kieron Jenkins. Ulster are close to

1:44:56 > 1:45:01giving away another penalty. Jason Tovey trying to set it up. They go

1:45:01 > 1:45:07for one more piece of good field position. And Ulster fumble but

1:45:07 > 1:45:11they do get it away. Here is Jackson. Marshall, intercepted. And

1:45:11 > 1:45:19they come back with that knock forward and that really could have

1:45:19 > 1:45:24been a very good try. Ulster left with no other option but to start

1:45:24 > 1:45:28throwing those speculative passes, even into their own territory. They

1:45:28 > 1:45:38have to look to throw this passes at this stage of the game. The

1:45:38 > 1:45:43

1:45:43 > 1:45:50crowd would have gone mad had he think Macklin might be injured.

1:45:50 > 1:45:57That is the last thing Ulster need. I am not sure what the situation is

1:45:58 > 1:46:05with recent signing, Calum Black. Kyle McCall included on the bench

1:46:05 > 1:46:13after some impressive performances in the Under-20 jersey. I'm sure me

1:46:13 > 1:46:22would be keen to get a first cap. At 19, not many forwards make that

1:46:22 > 1:46:27step up. But he is still on the bench. The referee saying to the

1:46:27 > 1:46:31water boys, you and your water leave the field, please. The clock

1:46:31 > 1:46:36starts again. Four minutes remaining and Ulster need a

1:46:36 > 1:46:46converted try to get a losing bonus point. They have have to run it

1:46:46 > 1:46:54

1:46:54 > 1:47:04from here. A good start with the opposite number, Geraint O'Driscoll.

1:47:04 > 1:47:20

1:47:20 > 1:47:27Dragons' hand didn't touch that. I wonder how he has enjoyed this? A

1:47:27 > 1:47:33bit of a change from playing it in New Lands. Not the crowd, but the

1:47:33 > 1:47:38weather is probably better. Great conditions for rung rugby. The ball

1:47:38 > 1:47:48was knocked forward, the referee is playing advantage to Ulster.

1:47:48 > 1:47:51

1:47:51 > 1:48:01Wannenburg sets it up. A great tackle by the Dragons' try scorer,

1:48:01 > 1:48:05

1:48:05 > 1:48:15Tom Riley. Good work by Tuohy. This is better. Menary with an awful

1:48:15 > 1:48:17

1:48:17 > 1:48:21pass. -- Menary with an awful pass. Nothing Henry could do about that.

1:48:21 > 1:48:25And dragons' put in. The accuracy in the Ulster back line play has

1:48:25 > 1:48:31let them down on a couple of occasions and making it difficult

1:48:31 > 1:48:35for the ball receiver. The Dragons have been good defensively and they

1:48:35 > 1:48:40have crowded the midfield. A couple of clean line breaks from Ulster,

1:48:40 > 1:48:46but unable to convert them into tries and turning over possession

1:48:46 > 1:48:53in crucial parts has undone their cause. We haven't heard a score

1:48:53 > 1:49:03since about 11 minutes into the second half. 19-6 at half time. 22-

1:49:03 > 1:49:29

1:49:29 > 1:49:399 as it stands. And a minute and a and Leeds. And this may well be the

1:49:39 > 1:50:00

1:50:00 > 1:50:07last set piece of the game. Another the Dragons have to do is keep it

1:50:07 > 1:50:17tight and then Jason Tovey will pop it into touch. Knocked forward by

1:50:17 > 1:50:41

1:50:41 > 1:50:48this for Ulster? Well picked up by Jackson. Will he do it again.

1:50:48 > 1:50:55Jackson, not Kuwait. Can he make it available? -- not quite. Can he

1:50:55 > 1:51:01make it available? Not Kuwait. That is game over. -- not quite. That is

1:51:01 > 1:51:09game over. Ulster have come away from Wales for the sec time in a

1:51:09 > 1:51:19week with nothing to show for their efforts. Too high, the penalty

1:51:19 > 1:51:19

1:51:19 > 1:51:27count, and too many errors for Bryan McGlock whrin's liking. --

1:51:27 > 1:51:33McLaughlin's liking. It is welcome to Wales for the south African

1:51:33 > 1:51:43speedster, Tonderai Chavhanga. But not for Ulster. They have gone down

1:51:43 > 1:51:48

1:51:48 > 1:51:51Well a disappointing night for Ulster. Too many mistakes and not

1:51:51 > 1:51:56enough composure. Paddy Jackson did keep Ulster in touch just about

1:51:56 > 1:52:01with his boot. But Ulster left it all too late to mount a come back.

1:52:01 > 1:52:11Ian Whitten almost sneaked in for a try, but it is two defeats in a row

1:52:11 > 1:52:16

1:52:16 > 1:52:22for Ulster. 17 points from Tovey, Well it is a disappointing night

1:52:22 > 1:52:29for Ulster? Very much so. This is not way they wanted to bounce back

1:52:29 > 1:52:32from last week. It sums up the back -- bit of a lack of experience. We

1:52:32 > 1:52:36have got to have some seasoned professionals there and tonight it

1:52:37 > 1:52:43look like a team that didn't have that. A lot of young players in the

1:52:43 > 1:52:47side for the coach and it told? we didn't really get any go forward

1:52:47 > 1:52:52in the second half. We started positively and we will see there is

1:52:52 > 1:53:01a great break from Marshall and some flat ball in the game line

1:53:01 > 1:53:07with guys running on to the ball. But that Edinburghed away. -- ebbed

1:53:07 > 1:53:13But that Edinburghed away. -- ebbed away. But a lovely line. But again

1:53:13 > 1:53:17no real support there. Chris Henry, who played the pick of the Ulster

1:53:18 > 1:53:23players again, first man on his shoulder, but we just made two or

1:53:23 > 1:53:28three half breaks and weren't able to get any pace on it out wide.

1:53:28 > 1:53:33when Ulster made good breaks, it all broke down and it all came to

1:53:33 > 1:53:39nothing. That was the disappointing thing. Yes, it was a lack of

1:53:40 > 1:53:44composure, those are loose passes. If it is a 50/50 pass, you

1:53:44 > 1:53:48shouldn't be giving it. We have worked lard to get into position

1:53:48 > 1:53:55and we throw that 50/50 pass. That is criminal at this lever. If you

1:53:55 > 1:53:59don't have ball, you can't build pressure. The coach talked about

1:53:59 > 1:54:04the number of penalties that Ulster gave away last week. He will be

1:54:05 > 1:54:10watching this game back and saying the amount of errors they made was

1:54:10 > 1:54:16crazy. Well as well, a lot of it is self-inflicted, in terms of poor

1:54:16 > 1:54:20passing, missing tackles and then knocking on. Simple things and

1:54:20 > 1:54:25again once you get into the red zone, the opposition 22, you want

1:54:25 > 1:54:31to be taking points out of that each time and we just didn't have

1:54:31 > 1:54:36the compose tkwrour do that. will be interesting to see on

1:54:36 > 1:54:42Mondays, will they have this video nasty that we're watch something

1:54:42 > 1:54:48We're under pressure, giving away cheap penalties. It is just...

1:54:48 > 1:54:52happens when clou start to clais the game and almost -- you start to

1:54:52 > 1:54:56clais the game and almost panic setting in. Look at our energy to

1:54:56 > 1:55:02get back to this ball and support that. Summed up the whole night.

1:55:02 > 1:55:07There was a lack of energy and enthusiasm right the way through.

1:55:07 > 1:55:13That will be the real disappointing part. Even with 20 minutes to go,

1:55:13 > 1:55:19that was a game Ulster could have won if they have enough ball.

1:55:19 > 1:55:26incidents was the turning point, yes, his foot was in touch, but it

1:55:26 > 1:55:30is the first time we worked through three or four phases. Henry with a

1:55:30 > 1:55:36lovely break. And then there is reasonably quick ball for one of

1:55:36 > 1:55:40the few times. There is space out wide and Ian has finished it well,

1:55:40 > 1:55:45but his toe has gone into touch. But if we had scored that, the game

1:55:45 > 1:55:49could have flipped on its head. That is what we have become used to.

1:55:49 > 1:55:55This is what we have come to, we have got a buzz about Ulster,

1:55:55 > 1:56:00because this is what they're capable of. Where has it been? I

1:56:00 > 1:56:04have hoped we moved forward. That was a glimpse of what we're capable

1:56:04 > 1:56:08of. Why can't we row do that week in week out. The seat piece was

1:56:08 > 1:56:13bete, scrum and line out. But when Ulster can't get control of the

1:56:14 > 1:56:19ball, they can't get control of the ball. Why not tonight? Set piece

1:56:19 > 1:56:29was good. In the second half maybe the line out fell apart with two or

1:56:29 > 1:56:34three loose flows -- throws. But it goes back to composure. Having that

1:56:34 > 1:56:39ability at nine and ten if you have the ball to make the right decision.

1:56:39 > 1:56:45Both Ian Porter and Paddy Jackson are relatively inexperienced and it

1:56:45 > 1:56:50shows the possibly the influence of a Piennar or an Ian Humphreys that

1:56:50 > 1:56:54can change the shape of the game. They have had a few games like this

1:56:54 > 1:57:00and this will help both of the guys in the future. But it is not a

1:57:00 > 1:57:06situation where you want to be sorts of, these are games that we

1:57:06 > 1:57:13targeted at the start of the year. We have got the Dragons away, we

1:57:13 > 1:57:19fansy ourselves. And the Dragons have lost games. The Dragons'

1:57:19 > 1:57:23changing room will be buzzing. They will be delighted. They are riddled

1:57:24 > 1:57:28with injury and they have won. the only positive is a chance to

1:57:28 > 1:57:32bounce back at home. Well you must win your home games. It will be

1:57:32 > 1:57:36difficult to pick the guise up. Tonight was very flat. There was a

1:57:36 > 1:57:41bit of ball in hand and we tried to up the pace in the last few minutes.

1:57:41 > 1:57:47But we have to start with that intensity. The coaching staff have

1:57:47 > 1:57:54a lot to do. But one thing is, for me it must come from within, the

1:57:54 > 1:57:58team must bounce back. They have got to sit down, a bottle of how

1:57:58 > 1:58:05they feel. Put it in a bottle and open it up again next week. If they

1:58:05 > 1:58:10don't have the ability to do that, we have to readdress. The coach has

1:58:10 > 1:58:13more questions than answers. but he will get it sorted. But the

1:58:13 > 1:58:18team's got to responds and everything's got to come, threfr

1:58:18 > 1:58:24got to point the finger and be critical on each other and tonight

1:58:24 > 1:58:34professional players didn't look fro fegsal. Thank you. We have more

1:58:34 > 1:58:42live rugby next Friday, Ulster against Treviso. That looks like a

1:58:42 > 1:58:47try! We're undefeelted against Italian opposition -- undefeated

1:58:47 > 1:58:54against Italian opposition last season. Let' see if it continues.
