0:00:37 > 0:00:41Ulster are in South Africa for the very first time. Today they take on
0:00:41 > 0:00:47the Southern Kings, who are yet to register a point in the new look pro
0:00:47 > 0:00:5114. All-star arrive on the back of two defeats, can they turn their
0:00:51 > 0:00:57fortunes around this afternoon? It is a round aid from the Wolfson
0:00:57 > 0:01:06Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Good afternoon, it is they want PMK
0:01:06 > 0:01:10coffee, 3pm in South Africa. Stephen Ferris and Ian Humphreys join us for
0:01:10 > 0:01:14the game today. But let's bring you up to date with what has happened so
0:01:14 > 0:01:22far this weekend in the Pro 14, and what a game in Scotland last night.
0:01:22 > 0:01:26Glasgow defeated Leinster, this was the try of the game, sure to be a
0:01:26 > 0:01:31contender for try of the season, a scintillating break by Glasgow to
0:01:31 > 0:01:36set up a touchdown for Nick Greg. Quite a game, with 42 points scored
0:01:36 > 0:01:41in the opening 25 minutes. This was Glasgow's fourth try to secure a
0:01:41 > 0:01:45bonus point. After sprinting the length of the field, Matawalu
0:01:45 > 0:01:50probably could have scored himself but unselfishly let Nick Greg
0:01:50 > 0:01:50finish.
0:01:58 > 0:02:02Glasgow are top of conference A, Munster second. The scholar 's go
0:02:02 > 0:02:15top of conference be, the Dave Redding -- leapfrogging Leinster.
0:02:15 > 0:02:19Ulster was a chance to go second after last week's defeated Leinster
0:02:19 > 0:02:24and after what we just saw Glasgow do to Leinster, how important is
0:02:24 > 0:02:29about Ulster get back to winning ways?A few weeks ago that would not
0:02:29 > 0:02:33have been as much pressure, but over the last couple of weeks they have
0:02:33 > 0:02:38put so much pressure on these guys, they have moved the venue to a
0:02:38 > 0:02:41different place, just to try to get the crowd to get behind the Kings. I
0:02:41 > 0:02:45am not sure of that will happen, the page does not look great. Everything
0:02:45 > 0:02:54is behind Ulster -- against Ulster, but they have two focus. It is just
0:02:54 > 0:02:58another page, another set of lines, and at the stadium, another game of
0:02:58 > 0:03:02rugby. They have to play, but huge pressure and if the result goes
0:03:02 > 0:03:05against them more and more questions will be asked.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08The ground the Kings normally play in is the state-of-the-art Nelson
0:03:08 > 0:03:15Mandela Stadium, but today the game has been moved to a venue in a
0:03:15 > 0:03:18township, Wolfson Stadium, where the facilities and the picture are a bit
0:03:18 > 0:03:22more basic. The coach said this week he thinks Ulster could be walking
0:03:22 > 0:03:30into an ambush, but surely Ulster must be able to adapt to these
0:03:30 > 0:03:33different conditions and environments?Any time you go away
0:03:33 > 0:03:37from home it will be different, it is not like Ulster have ever played
0:03:37 > 0:03:41at the other Stadium, this was always going to be something new and
0:03:41 > 0:03:46it is the same pitch, same size of pitch and against a team who have
0:03:46 > 0:03:52not won so far. My concern, it is unlikely the Hull will go zero in 11
0:03:52 > 0:03:56at home, they will be looking for a win. Ulster have played away twice,
0:03:56 > 0:04:04both Italian teams, they have struggled. -- it is unlikely the
0:04:04 > 0:04:10Kings will go zero out of 11 with a win.Ulster have been imported
0:04:10 > 0:04:12Elizabeth acclimatising and taking in the sights and sounds of South
0:04:12 > 0:04:18Africa this week, but it is no holiday -- oldster have been in Port
0:04:18 > 0:04:23Elizabeth. The team knows it is not a holiday and they have been finding
0:04:23 > 0:04:33the Pro 14 pretty difficult so far. The weather is good, a big fight
0:04:33 > 0:04:40over year, getting to do things like this, seeing safari. -- a big flight
0:04:40 > 0:04:45over year. This is not what you would usually see on Rory Best's
0:04:45 > 0:04:49farm! The last two weeks have been very disappointing, with that
0:04:49 > 0:04:54Leinster performance a lot others are disappointed with our rugby be
0:04:54 > 0:04:58played and maybe the rugby we did not play. We know what a big and
0:04:58 > 0:05:01this is for us, a potential banana skin.
0:05:01 > 0:05:04It is a great opportunity to get out and see different places.
0:05:04 > 0:05:13I am enjoying it.For the players it has been a special experience, a
0:05:13 > 0:05:16tour at the end of a long block of games, but when it comes down to
0:05:16 > 0:05:21business, they know they have to win.
0:05:21 > 0:05:28It will be warm, it will be loaded in the stadium, we just can't wait
0:05:28 > 0:05:32for the opportunity. -- it will be allowed in the stadium.A big game
0:05:32 > 0:05:36for us in terms of championship points. When you look at their
0:05:36 > 0:05:41games, they have been tight up to the 60 or 70 minutes mark, we are
0:05:41 > 0:05:49hoping to put on a good 80 minute performance. The Gallup always good
0:05:49 > 0:05:53fun going on to a surrounded with your mates. It is amazing to get my
0:05:53 > 0:05:58150 of this week. But we are here to win, that will top off a good week
0:05:58 > 0:06:04but the week is almost for nothing if we do not come away with a win.
0:06:04 > 0:06:09A landmark 150th appearance for Craig Gilroy, ten changes from last
0:06:09 > 0:06:14week, five and forced because of the Irish call ups. So there is no Rory
0:06:14 > 0:06:18Best, no Alan Henderson, Jacob Stockdale, Stuart McCloskey to name
0:06:18 > 0:06:22a view. But surely Ulster have a strong enough team to do the
0:06:22 > 0:06:28business?I think so, you look at how the Kings have got on, they have
0:06:28 > 0:06:33only scored 17 points, that was the highest. Ulster have struggled
0:06:33 > 0:06:36defensively in the last few weeks but they have enough experience to
0:06:36 > 0:06:41go out there and get a fuel early scores and settle nerves. It is a
0:06:41 > 0:06:45big day Foley Livorno and John Cooney, they need to go out and play
0:06:45 > 0:06:49in the right areas. -- it is a big day for cellar Christian and John
0:06:49 > 0:06:57Cooney. Ulster will be feeling the heat, it
0:06:57 > 0:07:02will be very warm. But after what has been a topsy-turvy, difficult
0:07:02 > 0:07:05season so far, do you think they will feel a lot more added pressure?
0:07:05 > 0:07:12Definitely. I think it is the manner in the defeats. The boys got a bit
0:07:12 > 0:07:17of a pumping in the second half against La Rochelle, it was kind of
0:07:17 > 0:07:21a marker that they are not up with Europe's top teams. To bounce back
0:07:21 > 0:07:25at home against Leinster the following week, it just did not
0:07:25 > 0:07:31happen and Leinster, for me, were playing at 60 or 70% and easily beat
0:07:31 > 0:07:34Ulster, the amount of turnovers, easily giving possession back to a
0:07:34 > 0:07:38strong Leinster team, it was worrying times in the second half,
0:07:38 > 0:07:42especially when things went awry. Nobody could seem to grab it and
0:07:42 > 0:07:51pull it together, that worries me about today, leadership you talked
0:07:51 > 0:07:54about, Henderson, Rory Best, they are out of the team. So who will
0:07:54 > 0:07:57grab it now? Who will stand up and say we're in a difficult situation,
0:07:57 > 0:08:01let's take the bull by the horns and try to get things back on track?
0:08:01 > 0:08:05Much more added pressure.Ulster have had a pretty special
0:08:05 > 0:08:10relationship with South Africa in times, many players from the country
0:08:10 > 0:08:14have represented the team, like former captain Johann Muller. He is
0:08:14 > 0:08:18back living in South Africa that has been talking to us.
0:08:18 > 0:08:22As expected temperature and the wind are both up, how terrible it be for
0:08:22 > 0:08:28Ulster?It will be tough, conditions are not great, it is really windy,
0:08:28 > 0:08:34it is known as the Windy city in South Africa. Conditions are not
0:08:34 > 0:08:40great, but the sun is out, it is dry and hopefully some exciting rugby.
0:08:40 > 0:08:48What type of intimidation venue has this venue? -- intimidation factor?
0:08:48 > 0:08:54It is a bit intimidation. The first five minutes will be key to the
0:08:54 > 0:08:59game. A big start is needed, if you give these boys a sniff it will be a
0:08:59 > 0:09:04long afternoon for Ulster. How nice is it for you to see your mates on
0:09:04 > 0:09:08your home patch?Absolutely. I wish I was still playing. It is brilliant
0:09:08 > 0:09:12seeing you guys are meeting up this morning, having a coffee. It is
0:09:12 > 0:09:17lovely. I am happy for them coming to South Africa, experiencing a
0:09:17 > 0:09:21different culture and a bit of sunshine. Really looking forward to
0:09:21 > 0:09:26the game and watching the boys play. Have they got enough to do the
0:09:26 > 0:09:30business?Like I said, the first five minutes will be key, they need
0:09:30 > 0:09:34a massive start. If they give the Kings a sniff, it will be a long and
0:09:34 > 0:09:40tough afternoon. A big start really needed.Enjoy the game.Thank you.
0:09:40 > 0:09:43Johann Muller was the type of player Ulster could have done with last
0:09:43 > 0:09:47week. When their line-out completely fell apart in the second half
0:09:47 > 0:09:51against Leinster. This will be an area today where they will have to
0:09:51 > 0:09:55try to shore things up.They are on their own line, they needed a bank
0:09:55 > 0:10:01the ball, to get out of the red zone. Time and time again, whether
0:10:01 > 0:10:07it was a throw, miscommunication, a skewed throw, Rory's first game back
0:10:07 > 0:10:11for a while, it probably did not go the way he wanted, but he changed
0:10:11 > 0:10:15hooker and the same thing happened. When you lose a couple and it gets
0:10:15 > 0:10:19into your head, it becomes a mental thing, but I think they worked on it
0:10:19 > 0:10:24all week and they know it is an area they have to have 100%, ten out of
0:10:24 > 0:10:2760 line-outs against a good Leinster team at home is not good enough,
0:10:27 > 0:10:32they will put that right today, for sure.Let's hear from the Ulster
0:10:32 > 0:10:36director of rugby. It has been a long week on a fun week, but
0:10:36 > 0:10:42business time. Are you ready?Has been fun but also work, the guys
0:10:42 > 0:10:46have really worked hard and embrace environment, embracing where we are
0:10:46 > 0:10:53playing the game. It comes down to the 80 minutes. How tough and
0:10:53 > 0:10:57afternoon will it be?The wind is unpredictable, it is quite strong,
0:10:57 > 0:11:01playing with it or against it will challenge us, it will be a tough
0:11:01 > 0:11:05afternoon. What do you think is key for Ulster
0:11:05 > 0:11:09this afternoon to make sure they can win? Johann Muller said they need to
0:11:09 > 0:11:13get off to a good start?Game management and cutting down the
0:11:13 > 0:11:19errors. The La Rochelle game, after half-time La Rochelle picked off,
0:11:19 > 0:11:24Ulster knocked its own, La Rochelle win the Ulster 22 for the next
0:11:24 > 0:11:31however many minutes. Back in the day, we learned that if you are
0:11:31 > 0:11:35struggling you go down to a four or five-man line-out, win the ball. It
0:11:35 > 0:11:39does not matter if that is not what you practised, possession is key.
0:11:39 > 0:11:43Staff the Kings of possession and territory. The Kings will be
0:11:43 > 0:11:47nervous, they have not won yet and they will be thinking coming here we
0:11:47 > 0:11:51go again.Leinster kicked the ball 25 times in that game, but they
0:11:51 > 0:11:54kicked when they were on top and they put the ball behind Ulster,
0:11:54 > 0:12:00applied the pressure. Ulster need not to play into the Kings' hands,
0:12:00 > 0:12:04get the ball in behind them, a pressure game, suck the life out of
0:12:04 > 0:12:08them. That is what Leinster did to them last week, learn from their
0:12:08 > 0:12:12mistakes.What have you been was disappointed with with Ulster this
0:12:12 > 0:12:16season, what do they have to change most today? A winning result, yes,
0:12:16 > 0:12:23but what do they have to change? We have been talking for three years a
0:12:23 > 0:12:27week in, week out, about inconsistency. It is the same topic
0:12:27 > 0:12:31each year, each week. They had to address it. Three years ago I
0:12:31 > 0:12:36retired, five years ago we were sitting in front of Shay Logan, the
0:12:36 > 0:12:41Sio, talking about being the best in the world. Those are big comments to
0:12:41 > 0:12:45make. Ulster had to be the best team in Ireland, get into the top two or
0:12:45 > 0:12:49three in the league. Try to win a trophy. Coming out with those
0:12:49 > 0:12:51comments and filling everyone with the expectation that they will be
0:12:51 > 0:12:56the best team in the world in five years is ludicrous. It is getting
0:12:56 > 0:12:59back to basics, getting wins, giving the fans something to cheer about
0:12:59 > 0:13:04and being realistic. You have not seen much progress over the last few
0:13:04 > 0:13:11years?No. I have not. The players that have come in, the players
0:13:11 > 0:13:15coming through, we see the likes Jacob Stockdale, there is usually
0:13:15 > 0:13:20one shining light every year or two, but it has to be addressed. And to
0:13:20 > 0:13:25go forward and make Ulster successful, like everybody wants, it
0:13:25 > 0:13:28has to be looked at. Who is the finger being pointed at? I do not
0:13:28 > 0:13:33think it is Les Kiss or Bryn Cunningham, I think it is across the
0:13:33 > 0:13:36board, everything needs to be addressed and big structures need to
0:13:36 > 0:13:40be put into place.Isolde started progress, winning away from home
0:13:40 > 0:13:49will be key? -- if Ulster are to start to progress?Yes, any
0:13:49 > 0:13:54successful side, you win your home games and you pick up away games at
0:13:54 > 0:14:00the Dragons, Italy and South Africa. Thank you both. Ulster in South
0:14:00 > 0:14:05Africa for the very first time, let's see how they get on. We are in
0:14:05 > 0:14:11the company of Ryan Constable and Jim Neely. COMMENTATOR: The
0:14:11 > 0:14:15temperature is not typical of the Kingspan stadium, you can see by the
0:14:15 > 0:14:16flanks, and there are a fair number
0:14:16 > 0:14:19Kingspan stadium, you can see by the flanks, and there are a fair number
0:14:19 > 0:14:27of people, the Southern Kings first emerged in 2009 when they took on
0:14:27 > 0:14:30the British and Irish Lions in a bad-tempered game. They have not
0:14:30 > 0:14:35made much progress so far, the new additions, along with the Cheetahs,
0:14:35 > 0:14:40to the Pro 14. They have played seven and lost seven. They have not
0:14:40 > 0:14:43scored a single losing bonus point so they might hope this is the date
0:14:43 > 0:14:47where they redress that particular balance. Needless to say, Ulster
0:14:47 > 0:14:50hoping to bounce back from disappointing performances and
0:14:50 > 0:14:54defeats against La Rochelle in Europe, then last week at home to
0:14:54 > 0:14:58Leinster, probably the least acceptable result of the season so
0:14:58 > 0:15:00far.
0:15:03 > 0:15:12MUSIC PLAYS
0:15:18 > 0:15:23There is the man who is in charge, his fourth game in this Pro 14,
0:15:23 > 0:15:29Quinton Immelman of South Africa. His touch judges are also from the
0:15:29 > 0:15:39South African Rugby union. The TMO, likewise. Under the captaincy of
0:15:39 > 0:15:44Chris Henry, Ulster have not lost a game, maybe there is something to be
0:15:44 > 0:15:49read into that.We saw Chris Henry and Darren Cave in the shots in the
0:15:49 > 0:15:52changing room and on the pitch, really laying down the law. It is
0:15:52 > 0:15:56those players with experience of being on tour, knowing when to
0:15:56 > 0:15:59separate when you are on safari and on the beach to when the whistle
0:15:59 > 0:16:02blows and you are on the pitch and you need to deliver. Expect them to
0:16:02 > 0:16:06be very influential in their leadership.
0:16:06 > 0:16:1425-year-old Oliver Zono will get this under way. Came on as a
0:16:14 > 0:16:16replacement against Glasgow a week ago.
0:16:22 > 0:16:27Andisa Ntsila played for the South African A-side, very promising
0:16:27 > 0:16:33indeed. Ulster's reception at kick-off was not terribly good. Had
0:16:33 > 0:16:37he called that, you might have been in.Johann Muller said at the start
0:16:37 > 0:16:41of the programme of the first five minutes as crucial away from home,
0:16:41 > 0:16:44you had to make sure the crowd and the home team do not get the
0:16:44 > 0:16:49momentum into the game. That is a primary piece of possession. Ulster
0:16:49 > 0:16:54will not want to make errors like that.
0:16:54 > 0:16:59Good work on the tight head side by Wiehahn Herbst against the Kings'
0:16:59 > 0:17:07skipper. Nice interplay between Ulster.
0:17:07 > 0:17:10Adventurous stuff. They have made a bit of a hash of it in the middle of
0:17:10 > 0:17:16the park. Knocked forward by the Kings, the first knock forward by
0:17:16 > 0:17:20Ulster. They did not need to be doing that. Overcomplicated in their
0:17:20 > 0:17:25own 22?It did look like all the players were not fully aware of what
0:17:25 > 0:17:29the call was. We have seen from games played last night, Glasgow
0:17:29 > 0:17:33running from deep, when you do that you want to keep it simple, be
0:17:33 > 0:17:38direct, set up the option to click on both sides, bring the wing is up.
0:17:38 > 0:17:42Ulster guilty of overelaboration. Once again, it is those poor
0:17:42 > 0:17:46individual skills, it is retaining possession when you are away from
0:17:46 > 0:17:57home, particularly opening of a game, it gives a wonderful
0:17:57 > 0:17:59opportunity early on.Stephan Coetzee in the middle of the Kings'
0:17:59 > 0:18:02front row, the only change in the pack. Their skipper got injured
0:18:02 > 0:18:12against Glasgow. Curtsy came on to play. -- Coetzee came on to play.
0:18:12 > 0:18:23Now can they use this extra lbs? Matty Rea on the Ulster blindside,
0:18:23 > 0:18:30that is a good scrum.
0:18:41 > 0:18:52A good tackle the by Louis Ludik, did what he does best.
0:18:59 > 0:19:02All the pressure coming from the men in Black, Ulster will have to be
0:19:02 > 0:19:09very smart. Has he gone over? The referee had his hand out for
0:19:09 > 0:19:14something. There will be a penalty given. The referee is having a
0:19:14 > 0:19:21really good look. I thought Rousseau to cloak might have gotten. Somebody
0:19:21 > 0:19:32did, the Kings have scored. Not the start that Ulster would have wanted.
0:19:32 > 0:19:36Right from the kick-off, they made a mess of it inside their own 22, they
0:19:36 > 0:19:45have allowed the Kings to get in. It was Carson, the 22 ridge Centre. He
0:19:45 > 0:19:49looked like he might have squeezed over. The runners keep finding a
0:19:49 > 0:19:56way. The scrum came from an Ulster area, excellent continuity from the
0:19:56 > 0:20:00Kings, a good quality of recycled possession.
0:20:05 > 0:20:19Just three minutes gone and the Ulster line was crossed. Zono
0:20:19 > 0:20:23drafted in to play number ten, because they have problems in that
0:20:23 > 0:20:28position. Let's see if his kicking is any good. Fortunately for Ulster,
0:20:28 > 0:20:33it is not. But what a good start by the home side, Ulster will have to
0:20:33 > 0:20:37respond quickly. It goes down to the possession. But close to the line
0:20:37 > 0:20:41you will have two struggle to keep repeated runners out. The defence
0:20:41 > 0:20:45really has the opportunity to set the tone and urgency for the game,
0:20:45 > 0:20:48you don't want to be giving away easy possession two teams inside
0:20:48 > 0:20:57your own 22.Christian Lealiifano and Charles Piutau are the only
0:20:57 > 0:20:59Ulster backs retained from last week.
0:21:04 > 0:21:08Bobby de Wee is the try scorer.
0:21:20 > 0:21:23Kieran Treadwell needs to be careful where he puts his feet, you are not
0:21:23 > 0:21:27allowed to kick the ball out of the rock any more. Kings inside their
0:21:27 > 0:21:31own 22. -- out of the ruck any more.
0:21:37 > 0:21:45The full-back Yaw Penxe try to make some ground. -- tried to. Ulster are
0:21:45 > 0:21:51offside.Two what looked like knock-on is being missed by the
0:21:51 > 0:21:57referee and the assistant referee. Ultimately Ulster were penalised,
0:21:57 > 0:22:01having contained the Kings in their own half. There is now the
0:22:01 > 0:22:04opportunity to clear the touch and get into an attacking position once
0:22:04 > 0:22:09again.Oliver Zono has the wind behind him, he has put in a very
0:22:09 > 0:22:17good kick. Andrew Warwick might have been overenthusiastic, crept past
0:22:17 > 0:22:22the back foot. One of three former Ballymena Academy boys in the Ulster
0:22:22 > 0:22:32pack, I can't run when that last happened. ... I can't remember when.
0:22:40 > 0:22:46That was a good tackle on Al Shaun Barker, who came in from the left
0:22:46 > 0:22:56wing. Good stuff from the Kings. Another try for the Kings, they are
0:22:56 > 0:23:01taking Ulster apart pretty systematically. It was the full-back
0:23:01 > 0:23:08Yaw Penxe Garbine, all of a sudden the Kings are in double figures.A
0:23:08 > 0:23:14try which came from an Ulster mistake, trying to achieve the line
0:23:14 > 0:23:17speed, it came from a penalty line-out and they go through the
0:23:17 > 0:23:22phases again. Very good options, Ulster denying the space and an
0:23:22 > 0:23:25excellent pick-up, no questioning the finishing ability of the outside
0:23:25 > 0:23:29backs. They are big and they can take every opportunity that comes
0:23:29 > 0:23:37their way.Ulster's record on the road, nudges this season but in
0:23:37 > 0:23:40recent seasons, has not been terribly good. Nothing has improved
0:23:40 > 0:23:48in Port Elizabeth. Not much of a crowd, but those who
0:23:48 > 0:23:52are here will appreciate the effort by the home side, who have made all
0:23:52 > 0:23:56the running in this game. Eight minutes gone and Ulster are trailing
0:23:56 > 0:24:0810-0. He did not manage to make it 12-0.
0:24:08 > 0:24:12The assistant referee's flags went up, they awarded that one. The angle
0:24:12 > 0:24:16was quite deceptive, an excellent finish, executing the right option,
0:24:16 > 0:24:20but it comes down to possession. The Kings had it all in the first eight
0:24:20 > 0:24:23minutes, they utilised a very efficiently and made sure they had
0:24:23 > 0:24:29points on the board. The conversion was good, good by
0:24:29 > 0:24:33Ulster, but they trailed 12-0.
0:24:38 > 0:24:41Cooney is not in the autumn international squad, having played
0:24:41 > 0:24:46for Ireland for the first time in the summer tour to the USA and
0:24:46 > 0:24:50Japan. What do Ulster do from here? They are playing into the wind, it
0:24:50 > 0:24:54is fairly kickable, do they have to go for the corner?
0:24:54 > 0:24:59I would be taking my point is at this stage if it is in range.
0:24:59 > 0:25:02Shellshocked from the start, but as they have done through this season,
0:25:02 > 0:25:07taking the opportunity to go to the corner. Maybe out of range with the
0:25:07 > 0:25:13wind, difficult to know. Inch perfect kick, a perfect platform for
0:25:13 > 0:25:15Ulster. Need to make sure the line-out functioned properly and
0:25:15 > 0:25:20they can get possession. Good work by John Andrew, wriggled
0:25:20 > 0:25:20to ground.
0:25:25 > 0:25:28Christian Lealiifano's kick into the corner was as good as you could
0:25:28 > 0:25:34possibly get. It has not got any better for
0:25:34 > 0:25:41Ulster. It was pretty catastrophic against Leinster a week ago. That
0:25:41 > 0:25:46has not gone dead. Piutau had to think about kicking about into the
0:25:46 > 0:25:52strong wind. Ulster have conceded the best part of 80 metres.Again,
0:25:52 > 0:25:55those individual errors are what is culminating in Ulster standing in
0:25:55 > 0:26:00their own 22 began under pressure. Just seeing the effect of the winds,
0:26:00 > 0:26:04it is obviously very strong and the Kings will be aware they will need
0:26:04 > 0:26:08to accrue the points while it is that they're back. The tactical
0:26:08 > 0:26:12change, it will be more about possession. Important they do not
0:26:12 > 0:26:16concede any further points on what has been a pretty difficult first
0:26:16 > 0:26:20ten minutes.Bobby de Wee calling the line-out for the Kings. Calling
0:26:20 > 0:26:26to himself, that is pretty effective. A good drive by the man
0:26:26 > 0:26:32in black and red, Ulster concede a penalty. Wiehahn Herbst guilty of
0:26:32 > 0:26:35pulling the whole thing down. It seems to be going from bad to worst.
0:26:41 > 0:26:46They will be used to these conditions. That is the challenge,
0:26:46 > 0:26:50touring away, adapting to the conditions. Obviously a very fast
0:26:50 > 0:26:54servers, no issues with the playing surface, but it is the winds that
0:26:54 > 0:26:57they will be used to, the hookers will be used to throwing into and
0:26:57 > 0:27:00Ulster will have to adapt very quickly because they can't afford to
0:27:00 > 0:27:05give away so much possession. This will be the classic catch and drive,
0:27:05 > 0:27:07I am pretty sure, from the Southern Kings.
0:27:14 > 0:27:21Here they come again, the Ulster do and has to be pretty solid. -- the
0:27:21 > 0:27:25Ulster defence has to be pretty solid.
0:27:25 > 0:27:29Here is the scorer of the first try, looking for a second, Berton
0:27:29 > 0:27:35Klaasen. Taken on by Coetzee, the hooker.
0:27:42 > 0:27:47The scrum-half was not too far-away. Another try would be dreadful for
0:27:47 > 0:28:01Ulster. Do we get it away. They are battling. -- de Wee gets it away.
0:28:09 > 0:28:13Ulster have themselves upside. This will be another try. He has built
0:28:13 > 0:28:20it. I thought I heard somebody calling for offside, that should
0:28:20 > 0:28:24have been a try for Michael Makase. The pass was not great but that
0:28:24 > 0:28:29would have put the tin hat on it.It would have been disastrous for
0:28:29 > 0:28:33Ulster, the first time they have not managed to convert blood pressure
0:28:33 > 0:28:40and territory into points and grass but alas... Last pass, they need to
0:28:40 > 0:28:43respond by getting outside of their own half and spending some time with
0:28:43 > 0:28:47the ball in hand, they have not been able to do that in the opening
0:28:47 > 0:28:57stanza.Makase will not want to look at that, not part of his show real,
0:28:57 > 0:29:01in years to come. -- his show real.
0:29:15 > 0:29:19He played off the bench in a world 15 a few years ago, the same one
0:29:19 > 0:29:26that Wilson of Ulster played in. He has been around a time or two.
0:29:31 > 0:29:34I watch the game against Glasgow last week. For the first 45 or 40
0:29:34 > 0:29:41minutes there was not much between them. -- I watched the game. A solid
0:29:41 > 0:29:42looking Ulster scrummage.
0:29:48 > 0:29:52Ulster reluctant to kick because the wind is blowing into their faces.
0:29:52 > 0:29:56Kieran Treadwell, one of the half-dozen Ulsterman on the Irish
0:29:56 > 0:30:01panel released for this game. Andrew Trimble, Ulster's most capped player
0:30:01 > 0:30:08of all time. That is the difficulty when you play into such a strong
0:30:08 > 0:30:11wind, it is probably difficult for viewers at home to see on TV, at the
0:30:11 > 0:30:16ground it is blowing a gale and Ulster are tending to go through the
0:30:16 > 0:30:20phases, trying to establish a better kicking position, but they had to be
0:30:20 > 0:30:24accurate and it is an unfortunate knee on this occasion, but it is
0:30:24 > 0:30:27accumulation of turnovers and penalties allowing the Kings to
0:30:27 > 0:30:30establish field position, bar that one error they could have been three
0:30:30 > 0:30:34tries up, they were very clinical, if they can convert some further
0:30:34 > 0:30:44points here they will be delighted.
0:30:44 > 0:30:52Not even 15 minutes gone, 12-0 to the Kings, two tries, one converted.
0:31:00 > 0:31:06Interesting what the referee Quentin Bemelmans says, the forwards are
0:31:06 > 0:31:17pulling him back, that's a new one on me -- Quentin -- Quintin in
0:31:17 > 0:31:28Mohlmann. Good scrum. Tries to control it. The referee has the
0:31:28 > 0:31:32hand-out for the penalty. Not forward yet again and they are doing
0:31:32 > 0:31:39everything but score but they have won the penalty is.It is
0:31:39 > 0:31:45interesting, three points on offer. When you are on top like this, the
0:31:45 > 0:31:49attitude is to go to the corner. They have done well from their
0:31:49 > 0:31:53driving mauls and take another scrum. The last thing often needs it
0:31:53 > 0:32:05is problem that's of time given they are having issues the line-out. In
0:32:09 > 0:32:17Ulster took the foot off the gas and back came the Kings. For the second
0:32:17 > 0:32:22time of asking the Kings five metres from the line. You can see the
0:32:22 > 0:32:27strength of the wind by the flags. Another good-looking scrum. They are
0:32:27 > 0:32:31going to try to squeeze the lighter -- life out of this Ulster pack.
0:32:31 > 0:32:46They made a hash of it. Still there the Kings. Zono, good tackling by
0:32:46 > 0:32:58Louis Ludik. Van Rooyen, nobody at scrum-half. Taken on by the captain.
0:32:58 > 0:33:02Ulster post about an arms length away. Outstanding flank forward
0:33:02 > 0:33:10again, van Rooyen pops it up, Greeff tries to stretch, still coming back
0:33:10 > 0:33:14on the Kings side, Ulster under ferocious pressure here, there is
0:33:14 > 0:33:19the drive and I think they may be got over. The referee comes round
0:33:19 > 0:33:23and somehow Ulster held up the would-be try scorer but it is still
0:33:23 > 0:33:27that the Kings, comes only get wide? Has a go himself, cheeky little
0:33:27 > 0:33:33feet, good defending by Ulster, that has gone wide, and again they have
0:33:33 > 0:33:39made a mess of it and Pengfei drops it. They are anxious and have the
0:33:39 > 0:33:43bits between their teeth and need to calm down a little. They probably
0:33:43 > 0:33:50have the chance to score three tries there.Clinical for the first two
0:33:50 > 0:33:56tries then getting a bit overexcited at not executing it well enough.
0:33:56 > 0:33:59They know they need significant points from this first half with the
0:33:59 > 0:34:05strength of the wind at their backs. They have left out a couple of
0:34:05 > 0:34:08gilt-edged opportunities and may regret that in the second-half.You
0:34:08 > 0:34:17wonder if there is a cut-off point they will for at half-time. All
0:34:17 > 0:34:22Ulster will want is not to concede anything more by half-time and maybe
0:34:22 > 0:34:26get something themselves.It is a real containment proposition for
0:34:26 > 0:34:29Ulster at this stage and the best way to do that is have the ball in
0:34:29 > 0:34:33your hand and go through multiple phases but you don't want to be
0:34:33 > 0:34:37forced to do that in your own 22. They have been unable to establish
0:34:37 > 0:34:41any field position or have any time in possession in this first 18 or so
0:34:41 > 0:34:44minutes.
0:34:51 > 0:34:54Nonplaying members of the Kings squad watching on, needless to say
0:34:54 > 0:35:00with great interest. Ulster getting into the scrum, almost 18 minutes
0:35:00 > 0:35:07played. The massive Rossouw de Klerk. Had a spell with grass go and
0:35:07 > 0:35:22Grenoble, on the tight head side for the Kings -- Glasgow and Grenoble.
0:35:22 > 0:35:33Ntsila, the 24-year-old, very good player. Cave, now Piu Tao. --
0:35:33 > 0:35:40Piutau. Much better by old stuff. Cooney sidesteps, Andrew Trimble.
0:35:40 > 0:35:45Better now by the men in white, Ludik, nicely done, Reidy, gets
0:35:45 > 0:35:50over, what a try by Sean Reidy, his seventh league try and couldn't have
0:35:50 > 0:35:58come at a more crucial time, as good a try as Ulster scored all season.
0:35:58 > 0:36:02Under their posts, and outstanding try, much needed at this juncture.
0:36:02 > 0:36:06Haven't had any possession or territory and forced to run from
0:36:06 > 0:36:11deep due to the wind in their faces. Off-loading again is key, Piutau on
0:36:11 > 0:36:17his feet long enough to get the off-load away, then cleverly it
0:36:17 > 0:36:20options taken, good communication between players, coming from depth,
0:36:20 > 0:36:24running at pace, not panicking on the recycle then just too many
0:36:24 > 0:36:30numbers on the wider channel, a clinical finish from Ulster. Sean
0:36:30 > 0:36:35Reidy takes it over the line and Ulster will be relieved to get that
0:36:35 > 0:36:39score.Trimble did well going to ground and roll another quickly and
0:36:39 > 0:36:43presenting the ball quickly for Ulster to continue the move. Ulster
0:36:43 > 0:36:48having been ambushed in the opening six or seven minutes of the game
0:36:48 > 0:36:51when they conceded a couple of tries have come back and got one of their
0:36:51 > 0:37:01own. John Cooney into a pretty stiff breeze. He has 50 points this season
0:37:01 > 0:37:10for Ulster. Top points scorer by some considerable distance. Looks
0:37:10 > 0:37:13pretty straightforward, but a huge breeze blowing straight into his
0:37:13 > 0:37:19face. That has gone right across the front of the posts. He needed to hit
0:37:19 > 0:37:24that hard and low, hasn't managed it but at least Ulster are back on the
0:37:24 > 0:37:28board for the first time. They could have been four tries down with
0:37:28 > 0:37:31clinical finishing from the Kings but it is their opportunity now with
0:37:31 > 0:37:35ball in hand and they have gone the full distance, almost under the
0:37:35 > 0:37:39posts with some of those passes, but had the composure, good decision
0:37:39 > 0:37:43making contact, went to off-load and go to ground, excellent ball
0:37:43 > 0:37:47security which has resulted in the outstanding team tried. They cannot
0:37:47 > 0:37:52continue because somebody is down injured. Can't see who it is. The
0:37:52 > 0:38:03scrum-half, I think. Rudi van Rooyen. On has come Rowan Gouws.
0:38:03 > 0:38:08That is not so good, to see anybody going off on a stretcher, with his
0:38:08 > 0:38:13neck in a brace straightaway, and they will strap him in on the
0:38:13 > 0:38:18stretcher and taken off. We offer Rudi van Rooyen our best wishes,
0:38:18 > 0:38:22needless to say.He was having a very good game, taking good options
0:38:22 > 0:38:27from the base of the ruck, big runners coming at pace, which he
0:38:27 > 0:38:31picked off the first two tries. The Kings will be disappointed given
0:38:31 > 0:38:35their territory and possession and the try scoring opportunities, to be
0:38:35 > 0:38:43looking at 12-5 scoreline. Not quite sure how that injury occurred. This
0:38:43 > 0:38:48was the first try and van Rooyen pumped it up from the Centre Berton
0:38:48 > 0:38:57Klaasen who started the whole thing off. This was the second one, a
0:38:57 > 0:39:07delicate chip through and well gathered by the full-back Penxe.
0:39:07 > 0:39:12This was the best so far, finished off by Ulster number eight Sean
0:39:12 > 0:39:16Reidy.Ulster are dangerous with ball in hand. The problem has been
0:39:16 > 0:39:21they have had no ball in hand, two passages of play, and the second one
0:39:21 > 0:39:25has resulted in that try. There will be no panic, there is an opportunity
0:39:25 > 0:39:30now with the break in the game to gather themselves and took about
0:39:30 > 0:39:38what they need to get possession. Good conditions underfoot but the
0:39:38 > 0:39:44wind is howling a massive effect on the game.It looks like van Rooyen
0:39:44 > 0:39:54when smack dab into the back of Ludik. He must have hurt himself. He
0:39:54 > 0:39:58might have had a reflex reaction that thrust his neck back. Ulster on
0:39:58 > 0:40:03the board then that the Kings still leading. Ulster try scorer Sean
0:40:03 > 0:40:13Reidy. Contact with the opposition front row, Cooney. Lealiifano, quick
0:40:13 > 0:40:19hands, Piutau, good to Ludik. Still playing with a wee bit more
0:40:19 > 0:40:23composure -- Ulster playing with more composure. Herbst supported by
0:40:23 > 0:40:38Treadwell. Penalty against the Kings second row forward Greeff. Just made
0:40:38 > 0:40:44the tackle but made no attempt to get away.Usually when you are
0:40:44 > 0:40:48playing it will win this big you look for quick penalties, kicking to
0:40:48 > 0:40:52touch is difficult comic line-out possession is difficult, so if you
0:40:52 > 0:40:55can speed up the tempo in terms of quick taps it is good possession
0:40:55 > 0:41:00then for Ulster it is about spending time with the ball and trying to get
0:41:00 > 0:41:04through the first half. The tactical change at half-time, they will be
0:41:04 > 0:41:08kicking much more for territory. Cooney did it well to get it away,
0:41:08 > 0:41:17Leif Arno missed in the middle of the park, Reidy, Cooney again. A bit
0:41:17 > 0:41:26of footwork there. Cooney, nobody at outside-half. O'Connor. Penalty
0:41:26 > 0:41:34given away. Might have been Herbst to getting off his feet there but
0:41:34 > 0:41:40O'Connor did well. He has had a good season for Ulster. They have
0:41:40 > 0:41:43conceded possession and with the wind behind them I have no doubt
0:41:43 > 0:41:50Oliver 's owner -- Oliver Zono will make decent ground for the Kings.
0:41:50 > 0:41:56Not as much as he might have wished for perhaps. Not as ambitious as you
0:41:56 > 0:41:59would have thought they would have been. De Klerk gets in a good body
0:41:59 > 0:42:06position, hands on the ball, and Ulster unable to clear out the ruck
0:42:06 > 0:42:09and pursue a penalty. Forwards have the opportunity now to get into the
0:42:09 > 0:42:14Ulster half what they have spent the majority of this game.In the second
0:42:14 > 0:42:22quarter Ulster came back from a 12-0 deficit. A quicker ball. The
0:42:22 > 0:42:29scrum-half got it away well. This is setting up and again also give away
0:42:29 > 0:42:33a penalty at the breakdown, not releasing in the breakdown and the
0:42:33 > 0:42:39referee has been hot on that. Policing the breakdown, clear with
0:42:39 > 0:42:43his instructions, it you need to see the space once the tackle is
0:42:43 > 0:42:47affected, throwing their hands in the year to show it has been
0:42:47 > 0:42:50released, and an opportunity now for a 3-pointer from distance but with
0:42:50 > 0:42:59the wind behind.Reidy made the first tackle. Was he on his feet?
0:42:59 > 0:43:11Interesting call.Bieber a prominent in this match defensively and with
0:43:11 > 0:43:16those ball-carriers, the one resulting in that try, the Kings now
0:43:16 > 0:43:18probably frustrated they haven't taken all the opportunities they
0:43:18 > 0:43:24created on adopting now for the three points to stretch that leads.
0:43:24 > 0:43:29-- and opting now.A long way out and swirling but he had that very
0:43:29 > 0:43:34nicely indeed, a conversion and now a penalty added and the Kings add-on
0:43:34 > 0:43:42another three points, and they are leading by ten. 15-5 to their home
0:43:42 > 0:43:46side. Ulster had to do it again, they want to stay in touch by
0:43:46 > 0:43:49half-time with another score two. The live Arno gets it away, big
0:43:49 > 0:44:02chase by Ulster. Sula has made decent ground. Cooney put in a solid
0:44:02 > 0:44:07tackle. Piutau thought about taking it quickly and wisely changed his
0:44:07 > 0:44:13mind.Just now, close enough, it would have been a risky path to go
0:44:13 > 0:44:17that lends the first Ulster players. Exercising some caution there and a
0:44:17 > 0:44:22bit of trouble but managed to find a way out using the right foot, fairly
0:44:22 > 0:44:26strongly right footed and not playing in the accustomed position
0:44:26 > 0:44:31but found touch.A little shot of Gilroy celebrating his 150th Ulster
0:44:31 > 0:44:38appearance. That has gone loose. Well picked up by Ntsila, the pick
0:44:38 > 0:44:43of the forward so far this evening. Penalty.
0:44:49 > 0:44:55The Kings hooker Stephan Coetzee guilty of taking a man out past the
0:44:55 > 0:45:00ruck. This looks very clickable but will Ulster go over the corner? Just
0:45:00 > 0:45:06been explained to the Kings skipper Schalk Ferreira, second oldest
0:45:06 > 0:45:14member of the Kings squad, winner Alshaun Bock is 35, the oldest
0:45:14 > 0:45:18player to make his debut in Super Rugby. Crucial line-up for John
0:45:18 > 0:45:24Andrew and Ulster, well taken by Treadwell. -- crucial line-up.
0:45:24 > 0:45:28Suspiciously offside there I have to say by the loosehead prop and
0:45:28 > 0:45:34skipper Ferreira. You can't do that. You have to let the man come-down
0:45:34 > 0:45:38from the line-out before you can start that drives. A little
0:45:38 > 0:45:41premature there, inching forward, Ulster, good execution of that
0:45:41 > 0:45:48line-out. Throwing to the front, easy option, well taken, good setup
0:45:48 > 0:45:53there. Just coming across too early. Fortunate because it would have been
0:45:53 > 0:45:59a knock-on for Ulster.Same thing, Andrews to Treadwell at the front,
0:45:59 > 0:46:03Reidy in the back, Andrew Bayer looking for his baldly tried. Good
0:46:03 > 0:46:09drive by Ulster, they need to get across this line. There is a second
0:46:09 > 0:46:14shot, here goes Andrew for the lying and the drive. John Andrew gets his
0:46:14 > 0:46:19fourth league try and Ulster get their second, and the gap has closed
0:46:19 > 0:46:25once again.Ulster showing how simple the game be, straightforward
0:46:25 > 0:46:29ball, surprised they didn't jack anyone up, getting set for trying to
0:46:29 > 0:46:34repel the rolling maul, then a good setup, and just the weight comes in
0:46:34 > 0:46:38from behind and Ulster do very well to find their way, manoeuvring
0:46:38 > 0:46:42whether drive was coming from the Kings. Showing patience, not trying
0:46:42 > 0:46:47to go too fast, giving the integrity of the maul, Cave adding more
0:46:47 > 0:46:51ballast and managing to find a way across. They will be delighted with
0:46:51 > 0:47:04the execution of that.I wonder if Cave would appreciate being referred
0:47:04 > 0:47:07to as ballast? There is more to him but I know what you mean, well
0:47:07 > 0:47:09executed, the throw, lift and catchword good, securing of the ball
0:47:09 > 0:47:12was good and the drive was good. Let's see if Cooney can make the
0:47:12 > 0:47:14conversion are good and successful one.
0:47:25 > 0:47:29Look at the strength of that wind. He could have aimed it for the near
0:47:29 > 0:47:33post and it would have drifted in but it drifted well wide but Ulster
0:47:33 > 0:47:38in terms of tries back on level terms, but because the opposition
0:47:38 > 0:47:42has a conversion and a penalty there are still five points between them
0:47:42 > 0:47:46but more encouraging for Ulster having been well behind are now
0:47:46 > 0:47:50within touching distance.The wind didn't have a chance to affect that,
0:47:50 > 0:47:53brought down, smuggled in closely to the chest and driven across and
0:47:53 > 0:47:58Ulster now want to ensure they get this restart bright and clear their
0:47:58 > 0:48:06territory against.Well taken by O'Connor. Cave, good strength by the
0:48:06 > 0:48:11vastly experienced Darren Cave, is 198 cup for Ulster and he has got
0:48:11 > 0:48:16away, need some help, maybe he doesn't, he has given it away.
0:48:16 > 0:48:22Darren, Darren! Chip and chase, McCarthy has pace here and Piutau
0:48:22 > 0:48:27will have to be quick. They will have a look at that. They seem to
0:48:27 > 0:48:33think he has got it. This would be catastrophic for Ulster. The Kings
0:48:33 > 0:48:37fans reckon Makase showed everybody a clean pair of heels including
0:48:37 > 0:48:44Charles Pugh towel who perhaps wasn't going at full stretch. From
0:48:44 > 0:48:49this Ulster may have conceded a third try.It has been pretty loose
0:48:49 > 0:48:55and the kick just going with that breeze and as it does, the
0:48:55 > 0:48:58unpredictable bounce with two chasers and one arm flashing out
0:48:58 > 0:49:01looking to ground the ball. Certainly the body language of the
0:49:01 > 0:49:05Kings players is that this try was scored, as we see the replay as to
0:49:05 > 0:49:10whose hand gets there first, sitting in the air, tantalising in this slow
0:49:10 > 0:49:13motion as to whether there is contact with the hand and the ball
0:49:13 > 0:49:17which looks like there is on the try should be awarded. That will be a
0:49:17 > 0:49:25try for Michael Makase. Piutau didn't just do enough. That is a
0:49:25 > 0:49:29great angle. He seems to have the ball in control with his left hand
0:49:29 > 0:49:33and he is controlling it and there is contact between the ground on the
0:49:33 > 0:49:37ball and the hand and I would be surprised if the Kings have got
0:49:37 > 0:49:42their third try. They are having many looks at it.Excellent body
0:49:42 > 0:49:46position, nudging Piutau out of the way there, and that has made it
0:49:46 > 0:49:57difficult for him to get his hand to the ball, just sneaking it under, I
0:49:57 > 0:50:00am not sure why they need to look at this too many more times. Clear
0:50:00 > 0:50:03contact with the hand on the ball and forced inside the dead ball
0:50:03 > 0:50:06area, so I expect this try to be awarded. The TMO, Shaun Veldsman, is
0:50:06 > 0:50:09playing it and playing it and playing it, and referee Quinton
0:50:09 > 0:50:15Immelman is looking and looking and looking. Nothing changes. To me that
0:50:15 > 0:50:19is a good angle, nice bit of slow Mo there, I can't see what is wrong
0:50:19 > 0:50:25with that. Looks like Ulster have conceded it. McCarthy made of the
0:50:25 > 0:50:34huge amount of ground. You may award the try.The try has indeed been
0:50:34 > 0:50:43awarded. So a third try for the Kings. They once again open up a ten
0:50:43 > 0:50:51point lead. The first two try for the Kings inside the Ulster 22
0:50:51 > 0:50:55repeat phases. That one opportunistic, and it was just all
0:50:55 > 0:51:01about the gas. The Kings certainly have that in abundance.
0:51:04 > 0:51:10He hasn't kicked badly at all. Oliver Zono. He has the wind behind
0:51:10 > 0:51:15him but again it was a bit treacherous. He struck back nicely,
0:51:15 > 0:51:22has he brought it in? He hasn't. He has indeed, they keep tripping away,
0:51:22 > 0:51:27something wrong with the RA is here! He got up again, set the whole thing
0:51:27 > 0:51:34off, ball was... Look at the pace of this guy, let it down the park and
0:51:34 > 0:51:38fruit Mac came across and he dived maybe a bit too late. McCarthy got
0:51:38 > 0:51:45in and the conversion was good and the Kings lead 22-10. Ulster win it
0:51:45 > 0:51:49from the restart which is what they need to do, get themselves back on
0:51:49 > 0:51:57the scoreboard by the interval. Andrew ducking into contact. Cooney
0:51:57 > 0:52:07again, here comes O'Connor. Taken by the number eight, Lerm. Gilroy
0:52:07 > 0:52:14decide seems to come into the middle of the park to see some action. When
0:52:14 > 0:52:19they want to lose the unbeaten record this season. Lealiifano has
0:52:19 > 0:52:26caused enough problems. Cooney. Trimble. Well released. Cooney
0:52:26 > 0:52:31again. Warwick.
0:52:33 > 0:52:41Pugh towel at outside-half. Kane nicely to Treadwell -- Piutau at
0:52:41 > 0:52:44outside-half. Not getting away in the tackle against the Kings number
0:52:44 > 0:52:53eight. Ruaan Lerm. Ulster have to go into the corner.Yes, having seen
0:52:53 > 0:52:58that kicks from the ground there is an much pawn other than -- point
0:52:58 > 0:53:01other than trying to secure the line-out, the rolling mauls work
0:53:01 > 0:53:07well for them. Encouraging period of play for Ulster, continuity, putting
0:53:07 > 0:53:12structure on it, going through phases and looking for holes in the
0:53:12 > 0:53:14Kings defence. Intelligent decision-making and the referee is
0:53:14 > 0:53:17hot on players spending too long on the ball. Not overly long there but
0:53:17 > 0:53:21when you make the tackle you have to be seen to be trying to move with
0:53:21 > 0:53:26urgency away from that tackle zone. Well taken by Treadwell, a little
0:53:26 > 0:53:31too far out for Ulster perhaps to be thinking about churning over for
0:53:31 > 0:53:34another forward orientated try but they are doing their best. Warwick
0:53:34 > 0:53:38hasn't tucked under that -- has it tucked under that brawny arm of his.
0:53:38 > 0:53:42Needs a periscope so he can see where he is going but Ulster are
0:53:42 > 0:53:45moving the right direction and maybe have the wherewithal to take this
0:53:45 > 0:53:52out of the line for a second try. Still moving. O'Connor has. Ludik,
0:53:52 > 0:53:56Kane not far away, terrific drive by the Ulster pack and now some of the
0:53:56 > 0:54:00Ulster three quarters, down it goes, the referee reckons it has been
0:54:00 > 0:54:04taken down illegally but no one is in the middle of the park for
0:54:04 > 0:54:08Ulster, Cooney trying to move the ball too far away, Cave with an
0:54:08 > 0:54:11outrageous dummy.
0:54:14 > 0:54:18Kane really digging in, Ulster desperate for another try. Here they
0:54:18 > 0:54:29come again. Slowly. Cooney, Henry the captain helped by a O'Connor,
0:54:29 > 0:54:33Cooney again, Lealiifano, Piutau, nearly gets himself through, good
0:54:33 > 0:54:38work by Piutau, Cooney, dangerous stuff by Ulster, might well have
0:54:38 > 0:54:41been considered a deliberate knock-on and if that is the case
0:54:41 > 0:54:44would they be looking at a possible try and will that be a yellow card
0:54:44 > 0:54:54by the full-back Penxe? It is deliberate and I think he has gone
0:54:54 > 0:54:59to the bin.Normally that would take a look at the wider angle to see if
0:54:59 > 0:55:02there was cover defence raffer try would have been scored but choosing
0:55:02 > 0:55:08not to do that -- or if a try. It is Ulster's opportunity now. They
0:55:08 > 0:55:13expect them to opt for the scrum or kick into the corner.Cooney going
0:55:13 > 0:55:20into the corner for the line-out. Just about made it, no more. The far
0:55:20 > 0:55:23side touch drudge, Ben Crouse, had a good look at that. That was
0:55:23 > 0:55:30deliberate. -- touch judge. The man who scored the second try for the
0:55:30 > 0:55:34Kings is in the bin for the rest of this half and five minutes of the
0:55:34 > 0:55:40start of the second or maybe a bit more. Once again Treadwell the
0:55:40 > 0:55:45front, Kings have maxed that quite well. Ulster being shunted towards
0:55:45 > 0:55:49the far touchline, have to give it into touch, Trimble comes in then
0:55:49 > 0:55:54changes his mind. Good work by Andrew. Kings come right over and
0:55:54 > 0:56:02the referee says also not making use of that. That really was a wasted
0:56:02 > 0:56:07chance by the men in white.Much better defence by the Kings on that
0:56:07 > 0:56:10occasion, surprised how poor their defence of the rolling maul has
0:56:10 > 0:56:13been, not jacking someone up to make it difficult for Ulster and forcing
0:56:13 > 0:56:18them to go to the back. Difficult controlling conditions. On this
0:56:18 > 0:56:22occasion they got the defence of the driving maul exactly right.Ulster
0:56:22 > 0:56:26hold on a bit too long realising they were not going to go anywhere.
0:56:26 > 0:56:30The structure, they weren't able to prevent the Kings from infiltrating
0:56:30 > 0:56:36and getting their hands on the ball. Given the success they have had in
0:56:36 > 0:56:39that department they probably felt it was the right way to go, keeping
0:56:39 > 0:56:47it involved, but probably the lack of backs in the rolling maul is why
0:56:47 > 0:56:57it didn't work out.Good control at the back. I am surprised the Kings
0:56:57 > 0:57:02have come in field. Good striking by Cave, good stuff by the Kings, three
0:57:02 > 0:57:14Lerm again. They have pace out wide, scorer of the first try, Klaasen
0:57:14 > 0:57:19taken down. That is not backward and Ulster get offside and the referee
0:57:19 > 0:57:24says, go back to have taken through the mark. Ulster still perhaps a wee
0:57:24 > 0:57:28bit on the high side.Particularly away from home you want to keep the
0:57:28 > 0:57:32penalty count low, definitely in single figures, and playing into the
0:57:32 > 0:57:36wind it is even more crucial because it gives the Kings in opportunity to
0:57:36 > 0:57:41go deep into Ulster territory and start ramping up the pressure again.
0:57:41 > 0:57:44Ulster have responded well to a pretty poor start, but they went to
0:57:44 > 0:57:50ensure the Kings don't have any more points in the remaining four minutes
0:57:50 > 0:57:57of this first half.Ntsila Timmy has been outstanding and as a fellow
0:57:57 > 0:58:03flanker, van Vuuren, has been especially good. Ulster making a
0:58:03 > 0:58:11change, Kane has come on, I don't know what has happened to Herbst.
0:58:14 > 0:58:21Kane yet to start a game for Ulster this season. Not sure if it is blood
0:58:21 > 0:58:33or not, we will find out. Do we, that is a bit messy. Well stolen by
0:58:33 > 0:58:38John Andrew. Can Ulster capitalise? The Kings are a man down behind the
0:58:38 > 0:58:50scrum, Ludik nicely to Pugh towel. Great strength by peer towel --
0:58:50 > 0:58:54Piutau. Henry walloped. The 24 should be wearing number four. Ludik
0:58:54 > 0:59:03again. Away goes Gilroy, good to see him with the ball in hand again. At
0:59:03 > 0:59:10the end of the season he scored a hat-trick against Italy in Rome.
0:59:10 > 0:59:13Still time for Ulster to get something on the board by the
0:59:13 > 0:59:20interval. Lealiifano, well taken by Andrew, Gilroy, now Cave, Reidy.
0:59:20 > 0:59:24Into touch, good defending by the Kings and good approach work by
0:59:24 > 0:59:29Ulster but they need to get something from this line-out.A
0:59:29 > 0:59:32little bit tired, looks to be suiting Ulster if they can get the
0:59:32 > 0:59:38fringe players into the game, more 1-out stuff, to ensure they get
0:59:38 > 0:59:41continuity in possession. Don't necessarily need to go to the wider
0:59:41 > 0:59:46channels, excellent defensive work by the Kings, scoreline 22-10, with
0:59:46 > 0:59:49this win, you would argue, not enough of a return and the Kings
0:59:49 > 0:59:58will feel they left considerable points out there in this half.In
0:59:58 > 1:00:06minutes and three quarters to go. -- one minute. The Kings line-out, Lerm
1:00:06 > 1:00:14takes it. Treadwell came through.
1:00:14 > 1:00:22I imagine this will go straight into touch. Ulster have made a real go at
1:00:22 > 1:00:35trying to disrupt. The Kings still in possession. He could not kick
1:00:35 > 1:00:39directly into touch. He has, but he did not need to. That'll give Ulster
1:00:39 > 1:00:47the line-out. An error by Oliver Zono.Quite often you see with a
1:00:47 > 1:00:53wind of that strength that it can be difficult to kick and go in
1:00:53 > 1:00:56Crossfield, that is sometimes an option to find grass and to get the
1:00:56 > 1:01:03roll on. It was always going to be a temptation to over strike that.
1:01:03 > 1:01:05Ulster will welcome the opportunity with seconds left on the clock, if
1:01:05 > 1:01:09they can get further points out of this half they will be pretty happy
1:01:09 > 1:01:22with the scoreline.Cave has been excellent, and is still going.
1:01:23 > 1:01:27Ulster spill but backwards. In fact, they have knocked it forward, first
1:01:27 > 1:01:32of all, before it came forward. Louis Ludik took a bump. It will be
1:01:32 > 1:01:36a scrum accrue to the Kings, it might be the last set piece of the
1:01:36 > 1:01:43first half. A transport Ulster to claw back precious points. After the
1:01:43 > 1:01:47start they had, probably not the worst scoreline they had, but if
1:01:47 > 1:01:49they could get some additional points before the half-time whistle
1:01:49 > 1:01:54they would have been delighted. Difficult conditions, when you have
1:01:54 > 1:01:59a win like that you need to shorten the distance between the backline, a
1:01:59 > 1:02:03little bit more margin for error in what will be difficult passing
1:02:03 > 1:02:10conditions.First scrum for Ross Cane. Well away. So no under a lot
1:02:10 > 1:02:21of pressure. Sarno did not clear. -- Zono did not clear. Can Trimble
1:02:21 > 1:02:35finish? Good defending by Makase. Andrew Warwick made a good run.
1:02:35 > 1:02:37Leila Flano again.
1:03:02 > 1:03:12The Kings are slow getting off the ball. Kings disrupting. The referee
1:03:12 > 1:03:21seemed to be happy enough. Kicks have stolen the ball. Some don't
1:03:21 > 1:03:26miss the church, gave Ulster the chance, popped it into touch. What a
1:03:26 > 1:03:36first half we have had. Ulster were expecting a quick start, but not as
1:03:36 > 1:03:39quick as they got. At half-time, they are left with an awful lot to
1:03:39 > 1:03:47do. It is the Southern Kings 22, Ulster ten. STUDIO: Ulster's first
1:03:47 > 1:03:51visit to South Africa has been eventful. Two early tries for the
1:03:51 > 1:03:56Kings, they do not look like a team which has not won in the Pro 14.
1:03:56 > 1:04:00Ulster settled with two tries to get back into the game, but a
1:04:00 > 1:04:04scintillating score. The case of Michael Makase and the touchdown,
1:04:04 > 1:04:08the home
1:04:08 > 1:04:11Michael Makase and the touchdown, the home side lead to 22-10.
1:04:11 > 1:04:17We have been watching a pretty tough half for Ulster.Johann Muller
1:04:17 > 1:04:21touched on it at the start of the show, by getting off to a fast
1:04:21 > 1:04:24start. The Kings were the only team that did that, they came with the
1:04:24 > 1:04:31pace and intensity. It started off with an Ulster mistake, too many
1:04:31 > 1:04:34mistakes over the last couple of weeks have cost Ulster games. Fair
1:04:34 > 1:04:39play to the Kings, they were very, very tired come the first half, it
1:04:39 > 1:04:44will be interesting to see how they go in the second. There is maybe a
1:04:44 > 1:04:5220 or 30 points win, it is so strong. What did you make of
1:04:52 > 1:04:56Ulster's game management from the very first scrum accrue of the half?
1:04:56 > 1:05:01About this was inside the first minute, the Kings knocked on the
1:05:01 > 1:05:05kick-off. We don't how strong the windows, so they have not been able
1:05:05 > 1:05:15to kick in. Iunderstand... They put themselves under pressure, a feline
1:05:15 > 1:05:21aids have gone awry. They need to keep it simple. I know it is easy
1:05:21 > 1:05:24for us to say that, but you would like to think that a bit of basic,
1:05:24 > 1:05:33simple... The Kings struggled against the structure. It was
1:05:33 > 1:05:35frustrating to see Christian Lealiifano trying to do a
1:05:35 > 1:05:41wraparound, Andrew Trimble on a switch play.I agree with the income
1:05:41 > 1:05:46if you had Stuart McCloskey or Trimble or Craig, going forward
1:05:46 > 1:05:51after the scrum Mark Roe, assess your options, keep holding
1:05:51 > 1:05:55possession. They overcomplicated, knock-on, turned the ball over,
1:05:55 > 1:06:00Kings take advantage. Is it a sign of a team lacking in
1:06:00 > 1:06:04confidence, things have not been going your way, when you start a
1:06:04 > 1:06:07game like that some mistakes creep in quickly, as we saw in the
1:06:07 > 1:06:14build-up to the second score? The fact that they showed ambition knows
1:06:14 > 1:06:20there is confidence, but you have to respect the Kings, when you go to
1:06:20 > 1:06:24Italy and you are trying to run everything, instead of firing up the
1:06:24 > 1:06:28middle. This situation, Ulster get very, very narrow. First set play,
1:06:28 > 1:06:32both centres in the ruck, they should not be happening. That is
1:06:32 > 1:06:37your scrum-half and your full-back in the line, still and under lab.
1:06:37 > 1:06:42Something has to be talked about and described. Louis Ludik should not
1:06:42 > 1:06:46have jumped in the ruck, somebody else needs to be folding and
1:06:46 > 1:06:53quickly. It is too easy.It is the speed of ball, Darren Cave is in the
1:06:53 > 1:06:57first ruck, then the second. Why are your back row not getting in the
1:06:57 > 1:07:01second hit? They need to slow the ball down, the Kings were very good
1:07:01 > 1:07:05at getting around the corner and going forward. When they had better
1:07:05 > 1:07:10pace, a cheeky kick behind the defence and Ian said we closing the
1:07:10 > 1:07:14gate so early? Can they had a two man overlap. The numbers are getting
1:07:14 > 1:07:20cuts down because of the speed of ball, they to slow down. Two
1:07:20 > 1:07:24nocturnes and a penalty in the build-up to that try, and when
1:07:24 > 1:07:29Ulster settled they showed what they can do, a great score by Sean Reidy.
1:07:29 > 1:07:32Google it was, this is what they were trying to do with the first
1:07:32 > 1:07:36minute but perhaps they are more settled into the game.A good style
1:07:36 > 1:07:41of play, a lots more simple. It shows how valuable Childs Piutau is
1:07:41 > 1:07:50to the team. A nice plot by Chris Henry, then good composure. They
1:07:50 > 1:07:55could easily have forced the past, but simple on the offside, Sean
1:07:55 > 1:08:01Reidy is very good on the outside channels.Enterprising rugby,
1:08:01 > 1:08:06decided to go from their own 22. Sean Reidy has always been good with
1:08:06 > 1:08:09the outside channels, he was there a couple of plays later. It is about
1:08:09 > 1:08:15his game management as well. It is a fantastic try, the length of the
1:08:15 > 1:08:22field, hopefully we will see more in the second half. The Ulster line-out
1:08:22 > 1:08:26has not been perfectly, but when they got it right they showed how
1:08:26 > 1:08:31simple and straightforward scoring against the Kings can be.They have
1:08:31 > 1:08:35thrown to the same ball the last three or four macro times. They
1:08:35 > 1:08:39threw to Johann Muller 19 times against Leicester. If it works, no
1:08:39 > 1:08:43need to change. But there's two or three line-out soccer match, they
1:08:43 > 1:08:49were trying to throw to the middle, get the right pods that they wanted.
1:08:49 > 1:08:53Sometimes it is about taking a simple ball, that is what they did.
1:08:53 > 1:08:57Somebody went into the group said less obvious, we will get Kieran
1:08:57 > 1:09:02Treadwell up, set up a maul, look how easy it is, go forward. That is
1:09:02 > 1:09:05what they have done. They will continue to do that in the second
1:09:05 > 1:09:10half. Credit to the Kings, some of their
1:09:10 > 1:09:15play has been very enterprising in the first half. What a try before
1:09:15 > 1:09:19half-time, very opportunistic and probably the defence and let Ulster
1:09:19 > 1:09:25down?A great break by Darren Cave comic he has looked lively. We have
1:09:25 > 1:09:28said how quick, and they mentioned in the commentary, how quick the
1:09:28 > 1:09:36backs are for the Kings. You can't do that, you just had to say fair
1:09:36 > 1:09:40play, great athleticism and pace. Piutau was unfortunate not to get
1:09:40 > 1:09:46across.Will Ulster fans that... Think that Piutau should have done
1:09:46 > 1:09:49more?I don't think so, Charles is very fast and was doing his very
1:09:49 > 1:09:55best. The Kings showed exceptional pace, it was just the effort to get
1:09:55 > 1:10:01there. He could have given up but he kept the head down.A great score.
1:10:01 > 1:10:04Earlier this week South Africa was recommended as a country which
1:10:04 > 1:10:08should be awarded the Rugby World Cup in 2023, the final decision will
1:10:08 > 1:10:13be taken later this month, which could mean huge disappointment for
1:10:13 > 1:10:17Ireland, who are also in the bidding process. There is no denying the
1:10:17 > 1:10:21popularity of the sport in South Africa, but the introduction of
1:10:21 > 1:10:25South African teams into the Pro 14 has proven a work in progress. That
1:10:25 > 1:10:29they believe the potential is there, as Kevin Andrews found out. -- but
1:10:29 > 1:10:31they believe.
1:10:37 > 1:10:41Everyone is so excited to be watching the rugby and just be
1:10:41 > 1:10:47getting out there to see the game and the weather.Rugby is huge
1:10:47 > 1:10:55cheer, just because the Cheetahs and Kings are in the Super Rugby. It is
1:10:55 > 1:11:01a small city, everyone back gets the people going, good quality, I agree,
1:11:01 > 1:11:06what more can you ask for?For some, quite a bit more, because the fans
1:11:06 > 1:11:13have just not been coming out to see the Kings. It is that the Sharks, it
1:11:13 > 1:11:18is not the Western Province, we call them the big five in South Africa,
1:11:18 > 1:11:23the rugby teams. Unfortunately it distracts from a viewership point of
1:11:23 > 1:11:28view, the marketing has been poor, guys like Trimble and Tommy Bowe
1:11:28 > 1:11:32coming to a game like this, nobody has interviewed them and put them on
1:11:32 > 1:11:36the map to show the type of talent in the Pro 14. From a marketing
1:11:36 > 1:11:40point of view they have it wrong. From a crowd attendance point of
1:11:40 > 1:11:46view, I think a lot more can be done.Is it fair to say you guys
1:11:46 > 1:11:49have struggled? Definitely. I think seven matches
1:11:49 > 1:11:55in, no result yet, we have struggled. It has been a lot to get
1:11:55 > 1:12:00used to. I think the late inclusion has definitely played a big role.
1:12:00 > 1:12:04The season is what it is, we would still like to improve on our
1:12:04 > 1:12:08results, that there is a lot of work and focus going into the next season
1:12:08 > 1:12:14already.In the long-term, it seems the Kings will be up against it.
1:12:14 > 1:12:19With funding for the rugby Academy pooled, the schoolboys in Port
1:12:19 > 1:12:24Elizabeth are looking elsewhere for a career in the game. There is not a
1:12:24 > 1:12:27lot now with the Academy gone which entices or keeps the boys in the
1:12:27 > 1:12:32area, which is unfortunate. I know some of really talented players who
1:12:32 > 1:12:37would probably have a shot at making a career out of the sport and Cape
1:12:37 > 1:12:41Town, Bloemfontein. If it is purely a rugby decision, lots of the guys
1:12:41 > 1:12:44would tend to go to go to a bigger union.
1:12:44 > 1:12:50The Pro 14 has made an impression. It is a different brand of rugby,
1:12:50 > 1:12:54really fun to watch. If people start to watch, they will enjoy it.I
1:12:54 > 1:12:58don't know very much but I think it is awesome for the South African
1:12:58 > 1:13:03teams to be part of it, a good example for South African players to
1:13:03 > 1:13:07get experience overseas.Do you dream of playing for the Kings, or
1:13:07 > 1:13:11something else?Honestly, something else. It is not one of the biggest
1:13:11 > 1:13:23clubs. The Sharks, the Cheetahs, the Bulls,
1:13:26 > 1:13:29that is where we want to play. The Kings are getting up there, so
1:13:29 > 1:13:31maybe one day.But it will require investment.It will be interesting
1:13:31 > 1:13:34to see if we will get some really big names, maybe a couple of
1:13:34 > 1:13:36Springboks representing the Kings, then we will have a bigger
1:13:36 > 1:13:38following. The future is uncertain, but for now
1:13:38 > 1:13:40the Kings can only dig in and enjoy their moment in the sun.
1:13:40 > 1:13:42STUDIO: It has been a tough introduction for the Kings, probably
1:13:42 > 1:13:45better for the Cheetahs, what have you made the South African
1:13:45 > 1:13:48experiment?They were very late notice into the competition and lost
1:13:48 > 1:13:52a lot of players to the other African franchises, but how the
1:13:52 > 1:13:55players have to look at it is with the quota system in South Africa,
1:13:55 > 1:13:59some of them will not be picked for the Springboks, so the Cheetahs and
1:13:59 > 1:14:04the Kings, I suppose, they are a shop window to get into Europe. They
1:14:04 > 1:14:08will play here every week and it means you might get picked up by the
1:14:08 > 1:14:11Irish provinces, the Scottish, Welsh, especially for the younger
1:14:11 > 1:14:16players, because it is changing to five years for residency, but a good
1:14:16 > 1:14:1921-year-old could come to Scotland, Ireland Wales and play international
1:14:19 > 1:14:23rugby here. They have moved the match to a smaller stadium to
1:14:23 > 1:14:27improve the crowd, it does not look like it has done that. But a victory
1:14:27 > 1:14:33today for the Kings against a northern side will go a long way for
1:14:33 > 1:14:36their popularity? You look at Edinburgh, they changed venue,
1:14:36 > 1:14:40playing at Murrayfield. We have played there many times with only a
1:14:40 > 1:14:43couple of thousand and there is no atmosphere, it is something similar,
1:14:43 > 1:14:49the Nelson Mandela Stadium. It is probably right to downsize to a
1:14:49 > 1:14:53smaller stadium. Is that the right stadium for the Kings going forward?
1:14:53 > 1:14:57I am not sure, there are not many people at the game. This team just
1:14:57 > 1:15:03want to get out and play rugby, try to get a couple of results, as their
1:15:03 > 1:15:05operations manager said they are already preparing for next year, I
1:15:05 > 1:15:09think we will see a different Kings team next year.
1:15:09 > 1:15:12If Ulster are to be successful in the second half they will have to be
1:15:12 > 1:15:18a lot more accurate. There was a lot of mistakes in the first?Yes, and
1:15:18 > 1:15:22we talk about the basics, no penalties and knock-on is. After the
1:15:22 > 1:15:28early penalties, a message came on to give the extra yard. The South
1:15:28 > 1:15:31African referee, it can be tough. If they keep the basics, they have the
1:15:31 > 1:15:35strong winds, they were lucky to escape this opportunity. As long as
1:15:35 > 1:15:38they do not expect the wind to do everything for them, I think they
1:15:38 > 1:15:41should still come through and win comfortably.
1:15:41 > 1:15:45Let's go back to the match commentators and see how it unfolds
1:15:45 > 1:15:45in the
1:15:45 > 1:15:49commentators and see how it unfolds in the second half. COMMENTATOR:
1:15:49 > 1:15:51Ferreira will be pretty pleased and probably fancies himself as the
1:15:51 > 1:15:56first man to lead the Cheetahs to a win in this competition, which they
1:15:56 > 1:16:04have entered for the very first time, the Pro 14. The Cheetahs
1:16:04 > 1:16:08leading by 22-10. The Kings, I should say acclamation at the
1:16:08 > 1:16:11Cheetahs are playing elsewhere. The Kings leading 22-10.
1:16:11 > 1:16:17With the wind at their backs, Ulster are through.
1:16:17 > 1:16:25Louis Ludik is the only Ulsterman doing any worthwhile chasing, there.
1:16:25 > 1:16:27Chris Henry with the tackle.
1:16:33 > 1:16:37The referee played advantage. Andrew Trimble could not scoop it up.
1:16:37 > 1:16:42That'll be the first Ulster 's grid. A good position for Ulster, Ulster
1:16:42 > 1:16:46doing to the Cheetahs what the Cheetahs did to Ulster, putting them
1:16:46 > 1:16:51under pressure. The Kings having to run from deep, the ones that need to
1:16:51 > 1:16:54play the possession game when they are into the wind. If you don't
1:16:54 > 1:16:58protect the ball, you create opportunities for Ulster inside the
1:16:58 > 1:17:0522. Imported Ulster get the scrum right, get possession, no need to
1:17:05 > 1:17:08panic, only 12 points and a very strong wind at their back, they need
1:17:08 > 1:17:18to build the scoreboard.Kings 22, not the Cheetahs! Kings with a man
1:17:18 > 1:17:26in the bin, Darren Cave. Can changes direction. Trimble, a bit of pace.
1:17:26 > 1:17:29Ulster need to step up the intensity, but most importantly,
1:17:29 > 1:17:33improve the accuracy. Kieran Treadwell's line-out work has been
1:17:33 > 1:17:33very good.
1:17:38 > 1:17:45Piutau got it away to Gilroy. If it was knocked into touch than the
1:17:45 > 1:17:47Kings will have the option of line-out or scrum.
1:17:53 > 1:17:59Terrific upper body strength by Charles Piutau. Craig Gilroy was
1:17:59 > 1:18:04squeezed towards the touchline. Probably need to be more
1:18:04 > 1:18:07conservative on that occasion, just go through the phases. It is
1:18:07 > 1:18:11difficult for opposition with the wind to get out of the 22, they will
1:18:11 > 1:18:15have to go through multiple phases to carry their way out of there.
1:18:15 > 1:18:19Ulster will need to ensure their back three is suitably set up to
1:18:19 > 1:18:22counterattack and force them into the kick. Ulster will expect to play
1:18:22 > 1:18:29the majority of this house toe half inside the Kings' half and, if they
1:18:29 > 1:18:34can come inside the 22 -- Ulster will expect to play the majority of
1:18:34 > 1:18:36this half.
1:18:41 > 1:18:53The face Ulster line-out.-- Ulster line-out.
1:18:58 > 1:19:02Kings are back up to the full complement of 15 men.
1:19:07 > 1:19:10John Cooney did well to keep possession.
1:19:19 > 1:19:21Cooney back to where he should be.
1:19:26 > 1:19:30Intricate stuff in the middle of the park by Ulster.
1:19:36 > 1:19:40Still forward by Matty Rea. I think this is the first time we have
1:19:40 > 1:19:48mentioned him.An error from Ulster, that increases the pressure when you
1:19:48 > 1:19:53can build them up and force them to go to multiple phases, defending in
1:19:53 > 1:19:58their 22. We saw the toll that took on Ulster in the first 20 minutes.
1:19:58 > 1:20:06This managing to dislodge the ball in the tackle.Stephan Coetzee, the
1:20:06 > 1:20:10Kings Huger, rested a little way away from Matty Rea. Making his
1:20:10 > 1:20:14fourth start of the season. -- the Kings hooker.
1:20:24 > 1:20:29Interesting to see what sort of the toll this temperature takes on the
1:20:29 > 1:20:33Ulster players.Very well conditioned, but they are playing in
1:20:33 > 1:20:37a foreign environment. You need to ensure they keep getting the water
1:20:37 > 1:20:41on, early 20s in November will be something they are not used to. I am
1:20:41 > 1:20:44sure we will see use of the substitutes bench at the appropriate
1:20:44 > 1:20:49time in the second half. The boys in the studio reckon it was the Kings
1:20:49 > 1:20:51feeling the effects of it.
1:21:07 > 1:21:12A good bit of pressure. As the tight end intends that the set piece? That
1:21:12 > 1:21:17was the best scrum we have seen so far -- has the tide turned from that
1:21:17 > 1:21:25set piece? They seem to have overcome those early challenges in
1:21:25 > 1:21:30both scrum and line-out and seem to be functioning Whitwell. As the game
1:21:30 > 1:21:36wears on, I would like to see that continue from an Ulster perspective.
1:21:36 > 1:21:40Split options either side, the kick option is probably their last at the
1:21:40 > 1:21:41moment.
1:21:50 > 1:21:56The referee waited for advantage to Ulster.
1:22:21 > 1:22:27Looking a bit better from an Ulster point of view. Piutau could not
1:22:27 > 1:22:31quite get that away, the referee gave a penalty against the Kings for
1:22:31 > 1:22:35offside in the middle of the park. The interesting option now with the
1:22:35 > 1:22:39wind, it is in range. A 12 point margin early in the second half.
1:22:39 > 1:22:44Given how well the line-out is functioning, Ulster will be tempted
1:22:44 > 1:22:49to kick this into the corner and see if they can get early points in this
1:22:49 > 1:22:54second half.Just a brief consultation between Chris Henry and
1:22:54 > 1:23:03Christian Lealiifano. That is the message that has been conveyed. A
1:23:03 > 1:23:06nice, delicate little dink from Christian Lealiifano. Ulster in a
1:23:06 > 1:23:11very good position. You can see the assistant referee on this side.
1:23:25 > 1:23:31Ulster to the traditional Root and go to Tredwell? No, Rocana. --
1:23:31 > 1:23:39should Ulster do the traditional route? No, Alan O'Connor. John
1:23:39 > 1:23:46Andrew would love a second try. Cooney into the referee, bounces off
1:23:46 > 1:23:53him, and the referee is going to take a time-out. Did John Cooney get
1:23:53 > 1:23:57an advantage from bouncing off the referee and scoring the try, and did
1:23:57 > 1:24:01the referee position, which was not very clever, preventing Kings player
1:24:01 > 1:24:07from making contact? -- prevents a Kings player?
1:24:14 > 1:24:21He started to ask his TMO, but he just decided, quite rightly, that it
1:24:21 > 1:24:26was just unfortunate. I am not sure the referee can yellow card himself
1:24:26 > 1:24:29for that! It's somebody in the opposition had done that he probably
1:24:29 > 1:24:33would have been. That was an Ulster try that, was it not for the
1:24:33 > 1:24:38referee, would have been scored. Because it was the rectory, it has
1:24:38 > 1:24:42been put into the scrum, at least they had advantage.Once the player
1:24:42 > 1:24:46makes contact with the referee, they had to do a restart. There was a
1:24:46 > 1:24:51huge gap for Ulster to explore. The referee said I can't disappear, I
1:24:51 > 1:24:57had to be somewhere. Ulster just wish it was not where he was.
1:24:57 > 1:25:01A Halloween disappearing at the referee! A good, solid look at the
1:25:01 > 1:25:02Ulster scrum.
1:25:05 > 1:25:20Penalty given away. REFEREE: Kings, overextend.
1:25:20 > 1:25:23COMMENTATOR: A penalty against the Kings skipper, Schalk Ferreira.
1:25:23 > 1:25:27Eight minutes gone in the second half, the score as it was at the
1:25:27 > 1:25:32interview, 22-10.Ulster would like some early points in the second half
1:25:32 > 1:25:38so they do not have to go into panic mode. They have the position on the
1:25:38 > 1:25:43pitch, they will get the reward for that.
1:25:54 > 1:26:02The flat pass did not give him much room. Gilroy did very well. Another
1:26:02 > 1:26:07penalty against the Kings, kicking the ball through. A little tab ante,
1:26:07 > 1:26:15the referee has asked them to come back. -- a little tap and take.
1:26:15 > 1:26:19Ulster will be happy with that. Once they start getting penalties, they
1:26:19 > 1:26:24can establish field position. It is difficult to see the Kings holding
1:26:24 > 1:26:30Ulster out if they get that amount of possession inside their 22.A
1:26:30 > 1:26:34good bit of refereeing by Quinton Immelman, Saint everybody, just calm
1:26:34 > 1:26:42down. -- saying to everybody. The offences kicking the ball through in
1:26:42 > 1:26:47the ruck, which you are not allowed to any more. Lealiifano put Ulster
1:26:47 > 1:26:53into another decent position. That was good defending by Craig Gilroy.
1:26:53 > 1:27:00The first came through. Apart from anything else, an offside position.
1:27:00 > 1:27:03Some excellent counter rocking went on prior to that, awarded with a
1:27:03 > 1:27:04penalty.
1:27:10 > 1:27:18Good stuff by Ulster. They have got the ball down. Third try by Ulster,
1:27:18 > 1:27:23it is the first try, I am pretty sure, for Matthew Rea in an Ulster
1:27:23 > 1:27:28jersey. The Ulster fans will be pretty happy. Les Kiss will not just
1:27:28 > 1:27:32be happy but pretty relieved. There is a long way to go, but we think it
1:27:32 > 1:27:36was Matty Rea who got the touchdown. It is the line-out and the rolling
1:27:36 > 1:27:40ball that has worked so effectively. With the wind at their back, expect
1:27:40 > 1:27:45to Ulster to carry on with that tactic. They Kings could not get
1:27:45 > 1:27:52enough men behind the ball to stop that original impetus. Ulster
1:27:52 > 1:28:05finding their way across the line. The gap has closed to a converted
1:28:05 > 1:28:08try, and if John Cooney can convert this, there will just be a try
1:28:08 > 1:28:11between them.
1:28:16 > 1:28:23Very windy out there. That is stating the obvious. No conversion.
1:28:23 > 1:28:30Ulster with three unconverted tries to the Kings' three tries, two of
1:28:30 > 1:28:37which were converted, and a penalty. Matthew Rea had that, Andrews got
1:28:37 > 1:28:46tucked in. Was that John Andrew? Two tries for John Andrew. Sorry,
1:28:46 > 1:28:48Matthew Rea, you did not quite make it.
1:28:55 > 1:28:58That was careless by Ulster, nobody challenge for that.
1:29:13 > 1:29:17Louis Ludik played 83 games in Super Rugby for the Lions on the Sharks
1:29:17 > 1:29:21combined. -- and the Sharks.
1:29:27 > 1:29:31Hit by his own man, the referee happy enough, but the Kings have the
1:29:31 > 1:29:32ball back.
1:29:41 > 1:29:45That has spilled forward by Berton Klaasen. Ulster get the scrum. The
1:29:45 > 1:29:48Kings have started to make more errors than in the first half but
1:29:48 > 1:29:52Ulster have not been able to capitalise.A Kings like the
1:29:52 > 1:29:56unstructured play, keeping it loose and high tempo. An excellent take
1:29:56 > 1:30:01from the full-back, going high. Managing to secure that ball. It is
1:30:01 > 1:30:06just those errors. Excellent read from Andrew Trimble. Kings want to
1:30:06 > 1:30:09keep this was, for Ulster it is a bit more about structure. They don't
1:30:09 > 1:30:16need to play rugby from deep any more, they can kick to establish
1:30:16 > 1:30:18territory and use the line-out they have used so effectively. Just start
1:30:18 > 1:30:27whittling away the Kings' lead.
1:30:27 > 1:30:32Ulster started because of the victory over Leinster last night
1:30:32 > 1:30:39just a few points behind. They could get a bonus point win as well.
1:30:39 > 1:30:49Trimble off his wing. Ball coming back. Cooney. Treadwell. Well
1:30:49 > 1:30:55tackled. Cooney again, wraparound, Piutau, foot on the gas, away goes
1:30:55 > 1:31:00Trimble, Ludik with Cooney with him, this could be the bonus point try
1:31:00 > 1:31:04for Ulster, nicely done by Louis Ludik. Perfect pass, Cooney under
1:31:04 > 1:31:08the post and Ulster for the first time in this game have the chance to
1:31:08 > 1:31:12go ahead, a fourth try for Ulster, they needed the bonus point try,
1:31:12 > 1:31:15they have two win this game and if they win it with a bonus point try
1:31:15 > 1:31:27as they move into second place, but
1:31:27 > 1:31:30a lot of time, that wraparound move they used so well and Piutau
1:31:30 > 1:31:32straight at the defence, excellent work by Trimble to stay in touch
1:31:32 > 1:31:35than the support coming from depth, two on one, perfectly executed and
1:31:35 > 1:31:38one is Ulster fine time and space in the wider channelsthey have the
1:31:38 > 1:31:42players capable of making the brakes and the composure to finish them
1:31:42 > 1:31:51off. We should see Ulster draw level at 55 minutes. They have the four
1:31:51 > 1:31:56tries and they have their first converge on courtesy of John Cooney,
1:31:56 > 1:32:01so we have a level game here at the moment with just 50 minutes gone of
1:32:01 > 1:32:06the second half, Piutau's past perfect, likewise Trimble back
1:32:06 > 1:32:10inside, wonderful run made and perfect scoring pass from Louis
1:32:10 > 1:32:18Ludik to the scrum-half John Cooney. He got the conversion so 22-22.
1:32:20 > 1:32:28Oliver Zono asking his forwards to get behind him. That is longish,
1:32:28 > 1:32:35taken in by Trimble. Reidy just about get away. Cooney again.
1:32:35 > 1:32:43Treadwell. Runs into a couple of big Kings forwards. Cooney had to dig it
1:32:43 > 1:32:52out. Nearly a final Ulster kick. Good one, well taken in by p a the
1:32:52 > 1:33:10full-back. -- Penxe. Good tackle by Rea. Came with the initial tackle.
1:33:10 > 1:33:15Coetzee, again, but a visit in this, that was dangerous, they have speedy
1:33:15 > 1:33:19manner as we have seen in the first half, there is one of them with the
1:33:19 > 1:33:27ball, Makase, got the first try after the interval after a great
1:33:27 > 1:33:38Japan chase. Zono, high side. Good work by Kane again at the breakdown.
1:33:38 > 1:33:45Still there for the Kings, though. Henry up very quickly. Treadwell,
1:33:45 > 1:33:49Klaasen.
1:33:53 > 1:33:56That has gone forward, taken by Reidy, referee playing advantage to
1:33:56 > 1:34:04Ulster. Cooney, now Lealiifano. Trying to get toward the touchline
1:34:04 > 1:34:08but Lealiifano has released the ball, nearly lost his clothing
1:34:08 > 1:34:14there. O Connor into the 22. Ulster looking to go ahead for the first
1:34:14 > 1:34:19time, Cave to Reidy, good work by the Ulster number eight and he has
1:34:19 > 1:34:23got it forward and that would always be dangerous against
1:34:23 > 1:34:27counterattacking side like the Kings. Where has that gone? Into the
1:34:27 > 1:34:33hands of the Kings player. Referee says play on, not forward, now it's
1:34:33 > 1:34:37Gilroy. Just got one leg caught, couldn't make the progress he
1:34:37 > 1:34:43wanted. Cooney. Cave. Lovely flat pass to Rea, right through, denied
1:34:43 > 1:34:50by team-mate Andrew and Cooney looking for Ulster's fifth. That is
1:34:50 > 1:34:53good defending by the Kings, Ulster will do well to win the ball back
1:34:53 > 1:34:57and they have given away the penalty with the fifth try -- when the fifth
1:34:57 > 1:35:01try seemed to be on a plate for them. Luke Marshall not involved
1:35:01 > 1:35:05today, Chris Henry off the field incidentally.Huge amount of line
1:35:05 > 1:35:10breaks by both sides and just unable to finish that, desperate defence by
1:35:10 > 1:35:15the Kings, clinging onto this game, starting to probably look back and
1:35:15 > 1:35:18regret the missed opportunities in the first 20 minutes when they could
1:35:18 > 1:35:22have established a much bigger margin and Ulster working their way
1:35:22 > 1:35:27back into this game. Clever little off-loads and just pull down some
1:35:27 > 1:35:30desperate defence there, gets over the ball, which creates the
1:35:30 > 1:35:35opportunity for the turnover.I am not sure the Kings full-back wasn't
1:35:35 > 1:35:39playing the ball when he was lying flat on his back, which she is not
1:35:39 > 1:35:46allowed to do. There he is. P say, only 22, played on the wing against
1:35:46 > 1:35:56Glasgow a couple of weeks ago -- Penxe, only 22. Making a change at
1:35:56 > 1:36:07tight head prop. Pupuma has come on, a late replacement I have to say.
1:36:07 > 1:36:17Initially Martin Dreyer was supposed to come on. De Wee catch it and
1:36:17 > 1:36:25breaks it away. Greeff. Into Kane who manhandles him and slows things
1:36:25 > 1:36:36up a little, not the greatest pass in the world, well taken in, though.
1:36:36 > 1:36:42Ulster given away another penalty. Ross is on for Ulster.
1:36:44 > 1:36:50Good work once again by the powerful Ntsila. Here come the Kings. There
1:36:50 > 1:36:56will be trouble for Ulster. Ulster have managed to get back somehow and
1:36:56 > 1:37:01have managed to win the ball, and well done by Piutau, John Andrew
1:37:01 > 1:37:10perhaps should have passed the ball. Piutau given an enormous boot. Where
1:37:10 > 1:37:15will that bounce? Will it go dead and if it does will it come all the
1:37:15 > 1:37:19way back for a scrummage. Very unfortunate for Ulster and Charles
1:37:19 > 1:37:26Piutau who really didn't mean to overcook that one. A long, long way
1:37:26 > 1:37:30back.Excellent coming up pace and depth than finding the whole and
1:37:30 > 1:37:35good work by Piutau at the back to find the turnover, just the short
1:37:35 > 1:37:38run coming at pace to the retreating Ulster defence.
1:37:38 > 1:37:42Difficult tackle to make, Piutau does well to close the space,
1:37:42 > 1:37:45executes the tackle and gets through his feet quickly to claim the ball
1:37:45 > 1:37:51and Ulster again get some authority. Just wondering, did Kingspan knock
1:37:51 > 1:37:58back ball forward in the tackle from Piutau -- a Kings player. Ulster
1:37:58 > 1:38:04making other changes, Cave leaving the field, number 23 Beauvue has
1:38:04 > 1:38:11come on. Andrew Warwick has gone off and Black will come on -- number 23
1:38:11 > 1:38:16Tommy Bowe. Kings also making a replacement, replacement hooker
1:38:16 > 1:38:27Balekile is on. But it is going to be a Kings scrummage.
1:38:31 > 1:38:36Black straight into action.
1:38:54 > 1:38:57Confirmation of Tango Balekile coming on in the middle of the Kings
1:38:57 > 1:39:03front row for Stephan Coetzee.
1:39:06 > 1:39:11Ulster will have to be at their best. A draw in the greater scheme
1:39:11 > 1:39:14of things would be no good to Ulster, they have to come away from
1:39:14 > 1:39:22this match with a victory. Great tackle by Ludik on the Kings
1:39:22 > 1:39:27replacement Sage, number 23, and the Kings going for the Ulster line, and
1:39:27 > 1:39:33this is great stuff, the replacement prop in there, great chance for the
1:39:33 > 1:39:36Kings, Lerm, looking for a fourth try themselves, they have never
1:39:36 > 1:39:42achieved a conference point so far. The man who started it off, Klaasen,
1:39:42 > 1:39:46back in the Kings side, good defending by Ulster, and the Kings
1:39:46 > 1:39:51shunting towards the Ulster line. Klaasen is over again. That is a
1:39:51 > 1:39:55fourth try for the Kings and the crowd quite ecstatic about that.
1:39:55 > 1:40:00Four tries apiece but the Kings goal-kicking has been better and
1:40:00 > 1:40:06they are back into the lead as we going to last quarter this game
1:40:06 > 1:40:13stop.Ulster have found themselves under pressure and unable to contain
1:40:13 > 1:40:17the Kings team. It has been a theme in this game, once they get close to
1:40:17 > 1:40:22the line and sent the powerful runners they have short one of the
1:40:22 > 1:40:27ruck, Ulster unable to hold them back, and Kings have done well to
1:40:27 > 1:40:30halt the flow of points on the scoreboard and take themselves back
1:40:30 > 1:40:33into the lead.
1:40:37 > 1:40:43This fellow has kicked pretty well all day. From a dreadfully
1:40:43 > 1:40:51treacherous and strong wind. Kings need this one. And he has made that
1:40:51 > 1:40:59good yet again. So, Ulster have become back once more. Never been in
1:40:59 > 1:41:05the lead in this game, 22-22 was the best they have got, the Kings set it
1:41:05 > 1:41:10up nicely, terrific work once again from Ntsila, and finished off by the
1:41:10 > 1:41:17man who got the first try and now has the fourth, Berton Klaasen, the
1:41:17 > 1:41:2127-year-old.The Kings have proved difficult to stop from that range
1:41:21 > 1:41:25but Ulster with the wind at their back need to ensure they don't allow
1:41:25 > 1:41:30them into those positions. The ball knocked forward by the Kings on the
1:41:30 > 1:41:36referee playing advantage. Picked up by Gilroy. Reidy, Black in there to
1:41:36 > 1:41:43help. Lealiifano. Wonderful staff by Piutau, scything through on his own
1:41:43 > 1:41:48and he is still going, just held half a metre short, Cooney. Ulster
1:41:48 > 1:41:53have to score from here, Lealiifano having a go himself, taken on by
1:41:53 > 1:42:00Ulster and they can't get it down. Ross Kane has driven across the line
1:42:00 > 1:42:05and the referee is going to go up to the TMO I think. Ross Kane might
1:42:05 > 1:42:13have got a tip down but it is a very close call. Ulster think he has it.
1:42:13 > 1:42:16Ulster, great response, go behind the mistake from the Kings let's
1:42:16 > 1:42:19them back in. They find a way. Not granted initially but he found a way
1:42:19 > 1:42:29to get it down.Terrific work by Ross Kane. He was held up by the try
1:42:29 > 1:42:34scorer Berton Klaasen and had to work extremely hard, did he roll it
1:42:34 > 1:42:39over the head of the defender? This is tantalisingly slow, all it has to
1:42:39 > 1:42:45do is touch the ground, is he in possession of it? Can he use the
1:42:45 > 1:42:49great strength of his? It looks as if he might just have got it to you
1:42:49 > 1:42:55know. To me he has got it down, is there a hand underneath it? It
1:42:55 > 1:43:00depends whether the ball is down on the ground in between the hands of
1:43:00 > 1:43:04the defender Berton Klaasen. This may be a slightly better angle, came
1:43:04 > 1:43:11rolled over, can he get it down? Go on, you little rascal! Oh, I'm not
1:43:11 > 1:43:16so sure. Not from there, that's not a dry. That angle certainly looks as
1:43:16 > 1:43:22though it has been held up.There is another movement there just as
1:43:22 > 1:43:28number 16 kindly came in, Balekile. This might be the better run, Ross
1:43:28 > 1:43:33Kane giving it everything. We certainly rely on these slow-mo s.
1:43:33 > 1:43:38Shaun Veldsman the man in the truck having a look at it. From there, of
1:43:38 > 1:43:43the ball is down, came working and working and working and working, and
1:43:43 > 1:43:47what is the decision going to be? Ulster got all the way back to
1:43:47 > 1:43:53halfway, they think it's a try. -- Kane working and working and
1:43:53 > 1:43:54working.
1:43:58 > 1:44:04Shaun Veldsman said he recommends the referee gives a five metre
1:44:04 > 1:44:09scrum. Not clear and obvious the ball was grounded so the Ulster fans
1:44:09 > 1:44:13who made a long trip from Belfast or Dublin via Johannesburg and Port
1:44:13 > 1:44:18Elizabeth will be disappointed but Ulster have a five metre scrum, and
1:44:18 > 1:44:22with just over 50 minutes remaining Ulster need to start thinking about
1:44:22 > 1:44:26winning this game. They are in the right part of the pitch, no need to
1:44:26 > 1:44:31panic, plenty left on the clock, just about going through the
1:44:31 > 1:44:33processes now, particularly at scrum, make sure they get
1:44:33 > 1:44:38possession, and not panicking, going through phases, we have seen how
1:44:38 > 1:44:45easy it has been for teams to score once they get in this position on
1:44:45 > 1:44:48the pitch and Ulster will look to do their starter plays from the scrum.
1:44:48 > 1:44:52Diack on for his 202nd Ulster appearance. Rea has gone off. Black
1:44:52 > 1:44:55just having a little glance to his left to the touch judge on the
1:44:55 > 1:45:00nearside saying he is not happy with the scrummaging of the replacement
1:45:00 > 1:45:07Pupuma.
1:45:12 > 1:45:23This is a big scrum for Ulster, 15 minutes remaining. Very low, good
1:45:23 > 1:45:32strike, bit of pressure, good scrum by the Kings. Cooney grants lunches
1:45:32 > 1:45:36to his then goes right, Diack straight into action.
1:45:39 > 1:45:44Good counter rucking by the Kings, referee has the hand-out, saying
1:45:44 > 1:45:48that was nudged forward by Ulster and the Kings get the foot into the
1:45:48 > 1:45:53scrum and that is good defending by the Southern Kings.Excellent.
1:45:53 > 1:45:57Ulster will be disappointed with that, they established the field
1:45:57 > 1:46:01position and came close to scoring then gave the opportunity to the
1:46:01 > 1:46:06Kings to release that pressure, and no need to panic but they will be
1:46:06 > 1:46:10lancing up and understanding it is seven points in difficult kicking
1:46:10 > 1:46:13conditions, converting the tribe will always be an issue, but
1:46:13 > 1:46:17excellent counter rucking for the Kings and I am sure they are
1:46:17 > 1:46:21influenced by the scoreboard and the chance to get their first win in
1:46:21 > 1:46:28this competition.Nails being bitten on the Ulster bench. Jeremy Sage,
1:46:28 > 1:46:35the Kings replacement, in the middle of that, helped initiate that
1:46:35 > 1:46:40counter rep. Great squeeze by Ulster. A deliberate bits of
1:46:40 > 1:46:43wheeling by Ulster, the referee says. Ulster have conceded a
1:46:43 > 1:46:57penalty. Change on the Kings sides, Welemu wearing 19 has come on and
1:46:57 > 1:47:07off has gone Greeff. A very familiar figure as well, more on that in a
1:47:07 > 1:47:19moment. Charles Piutau. Runs into a fairly hefty prop forward. Penalty.
1:47:19 > 1:47:23Cooney thought about it quickly but Ulster will be better employed to
1:47:23 > 1:47:27put it into touch, not quite sure who is taking on the Ulster
1:47:27 > 1:47:32captaincy now Henry has gone off. Looks like Reidy was issuing
1:47:32 > 1:47:39instructions, could be. Here is Lealiifano. What a good kick. That's
1:47:39 > 1:47:52a cracker.The choice was obvious given Ulster's line-out. Given the
1:47:52 > 1:47:56scoreline of a 7-point deficit, and excellent kick into the corner and
1:47:56 > 1:48:02they will look to keep this simple, rest assured that is not going
1:48:02 > 1:48:04anywhere outside the forward pack. They got it at the second attempt,
1:48:04 > 1:48:12well read by Bobby de Wee.
1:48:15 > 1:48:25Kings pair in the way, Cooney again. Ross Kane. Good take, straight
1:48:25 > 1:48:29through by Trimble, wonderful finish by Andrew Trimble, Ulster's most
1:48:29 > 1:48:36capped player getting another league try. His 50th league try so another
1:48:36 > 1:48:40milestone for Andrew Trimble, and he has got Ulster's fifth try for the
1:48:40 > 1:48:47conversion to come but that will keep Ulster level.Good line, well
1:48:47 > 1:48:51constructed there, Tommy Bowe runs a very short angle onto that ball and
1:48:51 > 1:48:54track the defenders and Trimble runs from under around the corner, they
1:48:54 > 1:48:59don't see him coming and the big man running at that pace finds the
1:48:59 > 1:49:03perfect gap and gets Ulster back to within two points with the
1:49:03 > 1:49:06conversion to follow. Drawn scoreline with ten minutes to go.
1:49:06 > 1:49:12Ulster the team with the wind at their backs. No need to panic, they
1:49:12 > 1:49:16just need composure and accuracy for the last ten minutes, get into the
1:49:16 > 1:49:20Kings 22 and they have shown they have scored when they can do that.
1:49:20 > 1:49:25Excellent running angles by Trimble. Nice pass by Cooney who will take
1:49:25 > 1:49:35the conversion. Trimble and Bo exchanging hugs, the two most
1:49:35 > 1:49:44experienced players in the division. Another change for the Kings, Majola
1:49:44 > 1:49:49has come on wearing 17. Well taken by Reidy under pressure by Berton
1:49:49 > 1:49:58Klaasen. Ludik not given much in the way of room. Ulster pinned inside
1:49:58 > 1:50:04the 22, they have to get it in. He has given that an almighty thump,
1:50:04 > 1:50:11what a good kick that is. A line-out to the Southern Kings. Leo le Fondre
1:50:11 > 1:50:16has made some 70 metres for Ulster. Ulster playing from deep with the
1:50:16 > 1:50:20wind at their back. You now put pressure on the opposition line-out.
1:50:20 > 1:50:27You try to force the error. Get territory again. They will be well
1:50:27 > 1:50:33within kicking range albeit in difficult conditions. They have
1:50:33 > 1:50:36shown if they get anywhere near the try line the opportunities will
1:50:36 > 1:50:41come.If the score stays like this it will be two points apiece for a
1:50:41 > 1:50:46draw and one for a tri- bonus 03 points. Ulster expecting more than
1:50:46 > 1:51:00that. Balekile, the replacement hooker. He was actually dummying the
1:51:00 > 1:51:04throw. Given away possession, only a free kick but Ulster won't be happy
1:51:04 > 1:51:19with this. Sean Reidy. Will wrap around again, good for it round made
1:51:19 > 1:51:25by Lealiifano. Alan O'Connor. A bit of a high tackle there. Ludik.
1:51:25 > 1:51:31Beautiful by Ludik. Treadwell looking for his first-ever Ulster
1:51:31 > 1:51:38try. Cooney, Reidy, nicely done, Andrew looking for a hat-trick.
1:51:38 > 1:51:43Still there for Ulster, Diack, Ross, gets it over, Ross gets try number
1:51:43 > 1:51:46six for Ulster and for the first time with eight minutes to go Ulster
1:51:46 > 1:51:51go into the lead here in Port Elizabeth.Just showing again that
1:51:51 > 1:51:56clinical finishing, taking the ball into contact, quick speed of recycle
1:51:56 > 1:52:03and Batman Clive Ross comes from a deep angle. That is the key feature,
1:52:03 > 1:52:07excellent hands here, clever work by Andrews, not being forced into
1:52:07 > 1:52:11touch. The speed the ball comes back with an player is running at depth
1:52:11 > 1:52:16with pace, that close to the line, difficult to stop, and Ulster will
1:52:16 > 1:52:20feel they should do enough now to close this one out.Second league
1:52:20 > 1:52:35try for Clive Ross. Lealiifano not wearing headgear. Ten tries but from
1:52:35 > 1:52:41an Ulster perspective six, and they are leading this game with seven
1:52:41 > 1:52:46minutes remaining. If it stays like that Ulster will just move ahead of
1:52:46 > 1:52:50Leinster into second place behind the Scarlets. Lee-Lo Farnell has
1:52:50 > 1:52:54managed to land back well in that tricky wind in evidence again --
1:52:54 > 1:53:02clearly Faetano has managed to land back. Ulster now leave 36-29. Clive
1:53:02 > 1:53:04Ross low and combative and competitive, what a good try by
1:53:04 > 1:53:10Clive Ross.
1:53:18 > 1:53:23Away again. Well taken by Reidy who has had a terrific game for Ulster,
1:53:23 > 1:53:28lost it just as we said that, dummied by the replacement hooker,
1:53:28 > 1:53:33away for Trimble to tackle. The king is not finished by any means, drawn
1:53:33 > 1:53:41game no good to Ulster, they need it least four points.
1:53:45 > 1:53:49Still therefore the Kings. Battling away. Hurtling into just about
1:53:49 > 1:53:55everything that has gone forward. Referee says not backwards, away and
1:53:55 > 1:53:59another chance for the Kings. The Kings have got another try, can you
1:53:59 > 1:54:03believe this?Five tries now for the Kings and with the conversion to
1:54:03 > 1:54:08come they have a chance ofsquaring up this game again. What an
1:54:08 > 1:54:13extraordinary game in Port Elizabeth.Absolutely no pattern to
1:54:13 > 1:54:16this game whatsoever. Ulster score a try and you think they have done
1:54:16 > 1:54:21enough but the Kings comeback and the counter blow after counter blow,
1:54:21 > 1:54:25the Kings will be delighted with this opportunity, two players coming
1:54:25 > 1:54:29in on the same man and the Kings managing to manufacture a try when
1:54:29 > 1:54:33you thought Ulster had done enough to kill this game. A kick to come in
1:54:33 > 1:54:37difficult conditions aren't coming back against Ulster and finding
1:54:37 > 1:54:41another way to score a try.Ulster's difficulty to get the ball away from
1:54:41 > 1:54:46tight situations has cost them again. Still time for Ulster to
1:54:46 > 1:54:51bounce back. The score of any kind would do.Not an easy kick, you
1:54:51 > 1:54:54would think it was regulation in normal conditions but as we have
1:54:54 > 1:54:59seen with the strength of this wind, their really -- it really is a
1:54:59 > 1:55:03lottery and Ulster will be hoping this doesn't go over. A little less
1:55:03 > 1:55:08nervous of remaining five minutes then.This is a crucial kick,
1:55:08 > 1:55:14absolutely crucial for the Kings and indeed Ulster. Ulster charge, and
1:55:14 > 1:55:19he's landed it, make no mistake whatsoever, so once again, honours
1:55:19 > 1:55:26even. What a scoreline, 70 odd points scored but evenly split,
1:55:26 > 1:55:31Kings 36-36 Ulster, and this was a try. Lovely little show which grew
1:55:31 > 1:55:43in the defenders and a fine run taken by Penxe. Long run by Ulster.
1:55:45 > 1:55:52Kept in by Ulster somehow. Here goes Piutau, he has got away from
1:55:52 > 1:55:56everybody, back inside to Diack and Diack scores try number seven for
1:55:56 > 1:56:01Ulster! I do not believe what is going on in this stadium. Ulster
1:56:01 > 1:56:05back in the lead again, is there time for the Kings to come back yet
1:56:05 > 1:56:10again? You wouldn't bet against it, would you?You wouldn't rule
1:56:10 > 1:56:13anything out in this game. It has certainly been high-scoring. An
1:56:13 > 1:56:20excellent kick than a kick chase, Piutau again need so little space to
1:56:20 > 1:56:24create those opportunities, then draws the final man, the flow down
1:56:24 > 1:56:27the tackle, Diack doing the hard yards, running from distance and
1:56:27 > 1:56:31finding a way to ground the ball, and digging Ulster out of a hole
1:56:31 > 1:56:41here.Seven tries by Ulster, Piutau, amazing footwork down the ring and
1:56:41 > 1:56:47Diack did well enough to roll over and get the body and his hands down
1:56:47 > 1:56:50to make sure of the try and the conversion to come, Ulster hearts
1:56:50 > 1:56:53will be in their mouths to see if they can hang on for this one --
1:56:53 > 1:56:58down the wing. They want the bonus point plus three more and it still
1:56:58 > 1:57:03doesn't look as if it might have been enough. It still might not be
1:57:03 > 1:57:08enough, who knows? Clearly far no with the conversion. Has he got
1:57:08 > 1:57:13that? Certainly has, good kick by Lealiifano. Ulster leading by a
1:57:13 > 1:57:18converted try, not for the first time. Watch this from Piutau, look
1:57:18 > 1:57:24at that, Round 1, two, three men, kept well in field, lovely sidestep,
1:57:24 > 1:57:32work rate support by the 202 times capped Diack. Can Ulster gather?
1:57:32 > 1:57:35Diack knocks at board, Ulster give the ball away and the referee I
1:57:35 > 1:57:38think has decided the initial not forward was by the Kings and Ulster
1:57:38 > 1:57:43have got away with that.Waiting for the next twist in the tale, but
1:57:43 > 1:57:47Ulster scrum now, should be able to win their own ball and then the
1:57:47 > 1:57:50decision for them is do they go through multiple phases or kick this
1:57:50 > 1:57:57one down deep and give the Kings the opportunity to run from deep? First
1:57:57 > 1:58:00and foremost the concentration will be winning possession from the
1:58:00 > 1:58:07scrum.McBurney has come on the field. A huge scrum for the
1:58:07 > 1:58:13youngster, joined the rugby trade at Randles town. In it goes, good work
1:58:13 > 1:58:23by McBurney, good scrum by Ulster, Cooney, Piutau. Always next ground.
1:58:23 > 1:58:31Cooney again. Lealiifano. Ross, scorer of, I can't remember which
1:58:31 > 1:58:36try, number six I think. Well run on the ground by Ulster. Cooney,
1:58:36 > 1:58:39Trimble needs to hang onto the ball and has done, good strength from
1:58:39 > 1:58:54Andrew Trimble, well tackled. By dries Van Schalk Brits. -- Dries van
1:58:54 > 1:59:03Schalkwyk. What a thumping tackle. He set it up nicely. Get off the
1:59:03 > 1:59:13foot, code says the referee. Louis Ludik, into the final 30 seconds for
1:59:13 > 1:59:16so, will also come away with maximum points and move into second place?
1:59:16 > 1:59:21For a long time you wouldn't have bet your mortgage on it. Here goes
1:59:21 > 1:59:27Cooney, Lealiifano, Clive Ross. Rolls into a couple of hard tackles,
1:59:27 > 1:59:33Lealiifano again, Gilroy hasn't had much of a chance on his 150th Ulster
1:59:33 > 1:59:38cap occasion, youngest player to reach 100 and then 150. Diack in his
1:59:38 > 1:59:44tenth season gives away the penalty. Well... This could go into the
1:59:44 > 1:59:51corner. There is no point, it is too far out on the wind is awful so they
1:59:51 > 1:59:55will have to go for the corner and try to force something out of this.
1:59:55 > 1:59:58Is there another twist in the tale of this extraordinary saga in Port
1:59:58 > 2:00:04Elizabeth?It didn't function well on the last one, they will need to
2:00:04 > 2:00:07be better on this one to secure possession and Ulster needed to
2:00:07 > 2:00:11control that for another phase, the penalty comes, big hit coming in
2:00:11 > 2:00:20there, lined it up well and will be desperate to close this game out.
2:00:20 > 2:00:25I think it was Clive Ross, number 20, came in from the side. This is
2:00:25 > 2:00:30the last set piece of what has been the most amazing game of rugby.
2:00:30 > 2:00:39Ulster must challenge this. Ulster have come away, all they have to do
2:00:39 > 2:00:44is set it up and go to ground. I am sure McBurnie realises that this is
2:00:44 > 2:00:50not a time for personal glory, it is for getting the ball as far into
2:00:50 > 2:00:54touch as possible. Ulster are running this for some unknown
2:00:54 > 2:00:56reason. That should be the end of the game.
2:00:56 > 2:00:59WHISTLE BLOWS The flag goes up, and it is. Ulster
2:00:59 > 2:01:07have scored more... No fewer than seven tries, you would think it was
2:01:07 > 2:01:11a romp, but it was far from a romp. The game was in the balance until
2:01:11 > 2:01:17the end, it was not high quality but it was entertaining, tempo and
2:01:17 > 2:01:21ambition from both sides, ultimately the Kings will be left to rue the
2:01:21 > 2:01:25try scoring opportunities they left in the first 20 minutes.A bonus
2:01:25 > 2:01:31point went to Ulster, an amazing game.
2:01:31 > 2:01:32Ulster coming
2:01:32 > 2:01:34game. Ulster coming home with five points,
2:01:34 > 2:01:3943. STUDIO: Value for money this Saturday afternoon. An amazing win
2:01:39 > 2:01:42for Ulster, but is that perhaps a result leaving more questions than
2:01:42 > 2:01:48answers?I don't know, I am still sitting in shock at what we have
2:01:48 > 2:01:55just witnessed in the second half, it was a crazy game of rugby. One
2:01:55 > 2:01:58man, Charles Piutau, turned it around in the last few minutes and
2:01:58 > 2:02:01made the break to get the winning try the Robbie Diack, who will not
2:02:01 > 2:02:08be with us next season when he moves on to Bristol. Kings have not
2:02:08 > 2:02:12registered a point this year, they got two points in that game. The
2:02:12 > 2:02:15defence was really iffy, just to concede the amount they did against
2:02:15 > 2:02:20a very, very average Kings team does seem like there are still lots of
2:02:20 > 2:02:24questions to be asked. Before we break down the
2:02:24 > 2:02:28performance, let's talk about the positives. Ulster bouncing back to
2:02:28 > 2:02:31get the win when their backs were against the wall and the second
2:02:31 > 2:02:35half. That would be the most important thing, I would imagine?
2:02:35 > 2:02:40At times we were worried about the outcome. They have five points, you
2:02:40 > 2:02:44cannot get more than much out of the game. The Kings having two points,
2:02:44 > 2:02:47that will not be a factor at the end of the season. They have come out
2:02:47 > 2:02:51with a full match points and the fact they have scored seven tries is
2:02:51 > 2:02:54good, because scoring against any team can be tough. It was difficult
2:02:54 > 2:02:59that they will be frustrated. Again, more experience from some of the
2:02:59 > 2:03:04younger guys in a big game and a different atmosphere. Let's take the
2:03:04 > 2:03:08five points and move on.It is five points, it is a win and the table
2:03:08 > 2:03:15makes a bit better reading than it has done. Ulster moving to second
2:03:15 > 2:03:19place in the table above Leinster, who were beaten by Glasgow last
2:03:19 > 2:03:28night. Scala 's are still top by six points. -- Scarlets. Ulster started
2:03:28 > 2:03:34the second of the way they would have wanted to start the first? With
2:03:34 > 2:03:37the wind at your back you know you will get a couple of purple patches
2:03:37 > 2:03:41throughout the half to get back into the game. I thought they would run
2:03:41 > 2:03:44away with it a bit more in the second, but fair play to the Kings,
2:03:44 > 2:03:48they came back into it. They should have been kicking to the corner and
2:03:48 > 2:03:54driving over all day. When they got the basics right, they did it well?
2:03:54 > 2:04:03There was a bit of a splinter but it was literally a walk in the park for
2:04:03 > 2:04:05the Ulster lads, it is not hard work. Walking through the Kings
2:04:05 > 2:04:08defence, that should have happened more often than we saw today but it
2:04:08 > 2:04:11is a good score, when you are playing with the wind you knock it
2:04:11 > 2:04:15into the corner, as we said at the top of the show, continue to apply
2:04:15 > 2:04:20pressure. At the start of the second half they did that.On the John
2:04:20 > 2:04:25Andrew try was followed by another good score by Clooney?Gradually
2:04:25 > 2:04:29putting the pressure on.A good start, a good carried by Trimble.
2:04:29 > 2:04:35Just the simple things, nice wraparound play. A big hits behind
2:04:35 > 2:04:39the line. When you lose the gain line you have to go back down, nice
2:04:39 > 2:04:48wraparound play. Charles was instrumental. It is just the basics,
2:04:48 > 2:04:54that is a set pattern, getting the faces are not doing anything fancy.
2:04:54 > 2:04:59That is a fantastic score, however the Kings defence is shambolic,
2:04:59 > 2:05:04really bad. Hitting in at any opportunity. They are so lazy, not
2:05:04 > 2:05:10working with one another. The Kings' defence was so poor, that you can
2:05:10 > 2:05:14only play what is in front of you. Ulster recognise they would catch
2:05:14 > 2:05:19them back down the short side, they did so.The biggest negative about
2:05:19 > 2:05:23the Ulster performance will be the defence, which was particularly
2:05:23 > 2:05:26disappointing, and how they let the Kings back into the game with the
2:05:26 > 2:05:33second Klaasen score. To concede the number of tries they did will be
2:05:33 > 2:05:37frustrating. They are losing some of the game lines. Whether that was a
2:05:37 > 2:05:40tactic due to the referee giving penalties away or whatever, they
2:05:40 > 2:05:44were not getting the ball down. Looking at that one free train you
2:05:44 > 2:05:51must have nine people within two meters of the ruck, that is no good.
2:05:51 > 2:05:57Over the last couple of weeks they seem to be defending very narrow. It
2:05:57 > 2:06:03means you are never making dominance hits. If they are not getting the
2:06:03 > 2:06:06tackles to the likes of Rory Best and Stuart McCloskey, it is an easy
2:06:06 > 2:06:14ball.Credit to Ulster, they bounced back again. We are going to talk
2:06:14 > 2:06:21about bouncing back a lot! They were resilientand came back with two
2:06:21 > 2:06:26scores to get themselves back in front?Les on the management team
2:06:26 > 2:06:30will be talking about the resilience, a bit like down at
2:06:30 > 2:06:34Scarlets earlier in the season. They had to bounce back a couple of
2:06:34 > 2:06:39times. It is holding onto possession, you will break loose
2:06:39 > 2:06:43Kings team down. Look above from Tommy Bowe, that is what we're used
2:06:43 > 2:06:47to seeing. Direct, hard, hitting an inside shoulder and Andrew Trimble
2:06:47 > 2:06:52is at the back door to go over pretty much untouched. When you hold
2:06:52 > 2:06:56onto the possession, you make life difficult for the opposition and
2:06:56 > 2:07:03that is what it was all about. They were not trying to do anything
2:07:03 > 2:07:07fancy, good, quick, ruck ball. John Andrew did very well. I think Clive
2:07:07 > 2:07:11Ross found a mismatch in the negative angle. They did the simple
2:07:11 > 2:07:15things well for their own tries. The trouble was when they try to be
2:07:15 > 2:07:19fancier, did not look after the ball well and gave the Kings opportunity
2:07:19 > 2:07:22to attack. Should we give the Kings more
2:07:22 > 2:07:31credit? In they came with another excellent try?I think so. They did
2:07:31 > 2:07:37not know when to lie down. When they went behind they stuck at it.
2:07:37 > 2:07:41Manufactured another try. Sometimes the odd fortuitous bounce went their
2:07:41 > 2:07:46way, but that is a great delayed pass. It is easy just to give our
2:07:46 > 2:07:49past. Christian Lealiifano would have headed in and got the tackle,
2:07:49 > 2:07:54but delayed it. He stayed out for half a yard and gives it and it is a
2:07:54 > 2:07:58lovely finish. He got the kick over against the wind, that was difficult
2:07:58 > 2:08:03and got them level. The bouncebackability of the Kings were
2:08:03 > 2:08:07something to be admired, they put a lot of hard and effort into the
2:08:07 > 2:08:11performance.Will Ulster fans after this performance be thinking about
2:08:11 > 2:08:18the Kings played well today and put a lot of points on Ulster, and not
2:08:18 > 2:08:22feeling the satisfaction of a bonus point victory for Ulster today, will
2:08:22 > 2:08:25they be looking about performance and disappointed even though they
2:08:25 > 2:08:31won the game?Potentially the initial reaction will be
2:08:31 > 2:08:34disappointed, but in April and May Ulster second in the league and you
2:08:34 > 2:08:38will look at the game and say they dug in with boys missing and got the
2:08:38 > 2:08:40five points. I don't think we can underestimate the Kings playing in
2:08:40 > 2:08:46that stadium, they will have enjoyed making it uncomfortable for Ulster.
2:08:46 > 2:08:51Whenever teams play in really nice stadiums it is easy to get up for
2:08:51 > 2:08:56it, so going forwards for Kings, it is taking other teams out of their
2:08:56 > 2:09:03comfort zone. For them it is positive, Ulster fans had to be
2:09:03 > 2:09:06pleased at the five points, there was a good while where you worried
2:09:06 > 2:09:11they would get nothing.Even though Charles Piutau with a fantastic
2:09:11 > 2:09:16break set up the winning score for Ulster, and it won them the game, it
2:09:16 > 2:09:22does not feel a very satisfying Ulster win this afternoon. Some of
2:09:22 > 2:09:26the top European teams would surely go there and absolutely hump a side
2:09:26 > 2:09:32like the Southern Kings?I totally agree. If you saw Saracens going to
2:09:32 > 2:09:37the Kings, you would expect and 80 or 90 point victory.Not scraping a
2:09:37 > 2:09:42win.Not scraping a win. But the thing all Ulster fans are talking
2:09:42 > 2:09:46about is not the 5-point victory and some of the really nice tries, it is
2:09:46 > 2:09:52the soft tries they conceded, we let in 30 odd points against a terrible
2:09:52 > 2:09:56Kings side. Ulster is not going anywhere, we are not putting in the
2:09:56 > 2:10:00right performances, the consistency is not there. To some degree, you
2:10:00 > 2:10:04have two agree a little bit. The consistency is not there. They
2:10:04 > 2:10:15leaked that amount
2:10:16 > 2:10:19of points against a very mediocre team. There will be questions asked,
2:10:19 > 2:10:21but let's be positive, Ulster got five points, they are sitting
2:10:21 > 2:10:23second, ahead of Leinster, it is a long season ahead, there will be
2:10:23 > 2:10:27plenty more and we will see entertaining rugby going ahead.
2:10:27 > 2:10:29Asters and disappointing performances, do you think the
2:10:29 > 2:10:34coaching team is under pressure? -- after some disappointing
2:10:34 > 2:10:43performances?I think it is, week in, week out. It is like a
2:10:43 > 2:10:45Premiership football, how long will you last, instead of doing the job.
2:10:45 > 2:10:50That is what it feels like. Professional rugby such a big
2:10:50 > 2:10:53business and if you are not winning trophies or getting results,
2:10:53 > 2:10:56questions will be asked. But going back to my point at the top of the
2:10:56 > 2:11:00show, when your chief executive is promising to be best in the world in
2:11:00 > 2:11:03five years, that is what they are trying to achieve, and you get
2:11:03 > 2:11:09nowhere near, there will always be questions. But the break in the Pro
2:11:09 > 2:11:1414 perhaps comes at a good time for Ulster to let them regroup before
2:11:14 > 2:11:17the next important phase?This season is a bit of a slob, the
2:11:17 > 2:11:21players have to go away, relax, recharge and come back ready for the
2:11:21 > 2:11:26next block of games. I think it is Dragons and Sebring next, two very
2:11:26 > 2:11:34winnable games. Suddenly you win them and that is ten games -- it is
2:11:34 > 2:11:38Dragons and Zebre next.Is winning those games papering over the
2:11:38 > 2:11:42cracks?Potentially, but you can only play what you have. They might
2:11:42 > 2:11:45need an overhaul at different levels, going back to schools and
2:11:45 > 2:11:50bringing in academy players. They have players away with injuries, key
2:11:50 > 2:11:54players. All teams have internationals, Ulster's team, when
