:56:04. > :56:07.There's a lot of hitting partners, everybody is excited about playing
:56:07. > :56:11.internationally. Today is the biggest opportunity for her, and it
:56:11. > :56:15.is all about whether she will be able to hold her nerve. She comes
:56:15. > :56:18.out with a quick start and then she gets a bit nervous. It is all about
:56:18. > :56:25.whether she can maintain that intensity throughout the whole
:56:25. > :56:30.match. The build-up to this final is so different to any other match.
:56:30. > :56:35.You're in the locker room... And here they come. I always think it
:56:35. > :56:41.is strange that they are not carrying their equipment. You want
:56:41. > :56:47.to hold something! Yes, now, the Wimbledon Championship is on the
:56:47. > :56:51.line. For me, I always think at Wimbledon is the most special,
:56:51. > :56:55.because you will become a member here, there's so much tradition.
:56:55. > :57:01.You walk past one of the other former champions. You're definitely
:57:01. > :57:08.very, very nervous right now. They're so tall, that's what has
:57:08. > :57:18.changed in the game from when we were playing. 6ft and over is
:57:18. > :57:18.
:57:18. > :57:23.almost the norm now. It is going to be key, because the serve is going
:57:23. > :57:29.to be a key factor. Maria has got to have a better day in that
:57:29. > :57:35.respect. Yes, we know that Maria has come back and had the yips on
:57:36. > :57:39.certain days. Some days, she serves beautifully. In one match she
:57:39. > :57:45.served 13 double faults. She will not be able to do that today
:57:45. > :57:50.against Kvitova and win the match. She is a better opponent I think
:57:50. > :57:55.than Lisicki. So, Maria Sharapova is going to have to get a lot of
:57:55. > :58:01.first serves in. Because Kvitova will really go after the second
:58:01. > :58:09.serve. Even though Maria has been here before, she will be feeling
:58:09. > :58:15.this, won't she? She will, because this is all after the surgery.
:58:15. > :58:25.are just being briefed. That's the former player who now looks after
:58:25. > :58:25.
:58:25. > :58:30.the players. Paying your first Grand Slam final, like Petra, the
:58:30. > :58:34.whole build-up is so tricky, and you just want to get out there...
:58:34. > :58:40.One thing which might help her is that she was in the semi-final last
:58:41. > :58:48.year here against Serena. She played a pretty good match. But
:58:48. > :58:54.definitely, so keep quiet, just about ready to go on court, this is
:58:54. > :58:59.when the butterflies are really big time. The legs will be heavy. A lot
:58:59. > :59:03.of thoughts going on in your head. This is going to be such a big
:59:03. > :59:09.hitting match. Kvitova has got to go for it, and accept that she's
:59:09. > :59:13.going to make errors. That's when she plays her best. Going after the
:59:13. > :59:23.second serve. She hits so hard and flat, both of them have similar

:59:26. > :59:31.styles in that respect. This is Chloe, representing the muscular

:59:40. > :59:50.you more about her in a moment. But this is a long wait, isn't it?
:59:50. > :59:54.is, you can see Maria's legs going back and forth. We are waiting for

:00:04. > :00:04.

:00:14. > :00:18.
:00:18. > :00:22.I feel for them, we have never seen anyone have to wake -- wait this
:00:22. > :00:32.long. They brought them down too early. It will play more on the

:50:24. > :50:29.feeling she will be the champion of Grand Slams for many years to come.
:50:29. > :50:34.It was such a polished performance from this 21 year-old. Reached the
:50:34. > :50:44.semi-finals last year, but now she is the champion. The new chairman
:50:44. > :50:49.this year, Philip Brook, she is meeting him. There she is, her name
:50:49. > :50:54.is already on the board. She seems overwhelmed by the whole occasion,
:50:54. > :51:02.but she was as cool as a cucumber on court right through that final.
:51:02. > :51:12.No sign of nerves at all. What a time to pick to serve your first
:51:12. > :51:18.ace, and to win the Wimbledon trophy. I don't think she quite
:51:18. > :51:22.believed it. The junior and Tracey are with me. Virginia, you remember
:51:22. > :51:27.that feeling I'm sure. You would have been very impressed with her
:51:27. > :51:32.performance today. I wish I had served like that. What was so
:51:32. > :51:36.impressive was the way she mixed up her serve. It was just sort of like
:51:36. > :51:40.a swinging thing, and her groundstrokes, she gets on a roll
:51:41. > :51:44.and when she is good she is unbelievable. But to be that good
:51:44. > :51:50.in the first final that you ever play at Wimbledon, that is what is
:51:50. > :51:54.really good. That says a lot about her as a person, doesn't it? That
:51:54. > :51:59.she can produce that tennis and hold her nerve. Yes, she started
:51:59. > :52:04.out so well and you felt she was going to have a struggle in the
:52:04. > :52:08.second set. She missed the easy backhand, and the easier queued
:52:09. > :52:14.forehand and lost her serve. That to me was the crucial time in the
:52:14. > :52:20.match. That was when Maria needed to grab hold of the match, and she
:52:20. > :52:24.couldn't. She double-faulted, and she really let it back into
:52:25. > :52:29.Kvitova's court. A lot of changes and momentum and Kvitova handled it
:52:29. > :52:34.beautifully. It is not often you see Maria on the back foot like
:52:34. > :52:38.that. One of the things that has been impressive about Maria this
:52:39. > :52:45.year is have improved speed around the court. She is in perfect
:52:45. > :52:49.physical shape. At certain stages she has been carrying extra weight,
:52:49. > :52:55.or underweight, but she is still not the quickest round the court.
:52:55. > :53:00.You look at someone like Kvitova who is also tall and gangly. They
:53:00. > :53:06.might say that is one area she might need to work on, her foot
:53:06. > :53:10.speed, but she was everywhere today. It was so great sitting behind the
:53:10. > :53:14.court because you can really see the explosiveness of the shots and
:53:14. > :53:20.she was really swinging. She could have hit winners with her eyes shut
:53:20. > :53:24.today. You have done this Virginia, she is heading out to the front of
:53:24. > :53:29.Centre Court. This is one of the great traditions of this tournament,
:53:29. > :53:33.to come out and show those who were not lucky enough to get a ticket to
:53:34. > :53:37.Centre Court to show them the trophy. I am sure she will be
:53:37. > :53:44.encouraged to wander down the line. But this is a whole new experience
:53:44. > :53:48.for her. And I am telling you, that drove the is so heavy! She is a
:53:48. > :53:54.strong girl. The photographers keep asking you to hold it up, and that
:53:54. > :54:01.is the best you can do. If you hold it over your head, your arms start
:54:01. > :54:05.falling off! It is a magnificent trophy. I knew when I won it, I was
:54:05. > :54:10.so excited that all I was thinking was I know I am going to see
:54:10. > :54:15.pictures of me in the paper holding the trophy, because you are just so
:54:15. > :54:21.overwhelmed with the occasion. is life-changing. She was number
:54:21. > :54:26.eight in the world, three titles this year, now Wimbledon champion,
:54:26. > :54:30.Grand Slam champion, and everyone will be going after her. How will
:54:30. > :54:34.she handle that? She will be so famous and it is such an exciting
:54:34. > :54:39.day for her, to be able to have that luxury of having three match
:54:39. > :54:45.points as well. That was fantastic because you have that cushion, and
:54:45. > :54:51.then to finish it with any case, to not even have to play that point.
:54:51. > :54:56.You were in the studio with me when the coin toss was played. When the
:54:56. > :55:00.serve was broken we thought it was such a good decision but we will
:55:00. > :55:05.show you the second game because this was key to the match. If she
:55:05. > :55:13.had lost this game, it could have been over very quickly in
:55:13. > :55:17.Sharapova's favour. Just so hard hitting, both of them. Look at the
:55:17. > :55:21.depth she hits. Sharapova is usually the one moving her opponent
:55:21. > :55:31.about the court and keeping them off balance, but Sharapova got a
:55:31. > :55:33.
:55:33. > :55:37.bit of her own medicine today. Kvitova, in that first set she was
:55:37. > :55:47.hitting her ground strokes around nine mph faster than her opponent.
:55:47. > :55:47.
:55:48. > :55:52.Did you know that at the start of the match, if you do lose your
:55:52. > :56:00.serve and lose a game, it is hard to come back from that, isn't it?
:56:00. > :56:05.Yes, Kvitova seemed to be all hard hitting forehands. Is Maria ever
:56:05. > :56:10.going to find a way of preventing that? Maria likes to move her
:56:10. > :56:15.opponents around, and she was on the back end of the steam engine
:56:15. > :56:21.there. Because you don't often see people returning her serve like
:56:21. > :56:26.this, do you? No, I think Kvitova plays defence a little better than
:56:26. > :56:30.the rear. Maria needs to be on a fence to win. Once you get in a
:56:30. > :56:37.defensive position, she finds it hard to get the point back into
:56:37. > :56:44.neutral. A lot of people were thinking Kvitova is an unknown so
:56:44. > :56:48.it is an anti-climax but I hope they realise how good she is. She
:56:48. > :56:53.should be around for a long time, with the talent that she has. She
:56:53. > :56:59.will already be a household name, a worldwide name, and I think people
:57:00. > :57:05.will really enjoy watching her. The power and the accuracy. I would
:57:05. > :57:13.like to see a little more variety in a match like this. I think there
:57:13. > :57:17.is capability have more variety for Kvitova. She is quite good around
:57:17. > :57:21.the neck, she doesn't have to go up there too frequently but that is
:57:21. > :57:26.another dimension she can work on with her coach to add more to her
:57:26. > :57:31.game. And that is exciting, to win her first Grand Slam and there is
:57:31. > :57:36.still more room for improvement. You would expect her to be nervous
:57:36. > :57:42.at this stage, but that point was particularly keep and she looked so
:57:42. > :57:48.cool out there. She made a few errors. You thought she might get a
:57:48. > :57:58.little joke, but she hit some of the returns and then finished off
:57:58. > :58:02.
:58:02. > :58:07.Kvitova had made a number of unforced errors at 5-3, kind of a
:58:07. > :58:11.loose game, and you thought OK, well she play another loose game?
:58:11. > :58:17.But she came out, cleaned up, dictated again, and got back on
:58:17. > :58:23.track. If you play on your debut, because did you win your first
:58:23. > :58:29.Grand Slam? Never. I wasn't a regular in the finals are so I have
:58:29. > :58:32.to win it when I was there! This girl is going to be a regular. I
:58:32. > :58:38.watched her beat Kim Clijsters in the final of an indoor tournament
:58:38. > :58:42.in Paris a few months ago, and she was incredible. That time she was
:58:42. > :58:50.coming up to the net a bit because she was hitting so aggressively
:58:50. > :58:55.that she was throwing herself into the court and volleying well, too.
:58:55. > :59:01.Sharapova didn't find her rhythm, Kvitova didn't allow her to. Match
:59:01. > :59:07.point. This is the perfect way to end it, look at that. All through
:59:07. > :59:11.the match, Maria was struggling to meet her shots. They are so well-
:59:11. > :59:16.disguised, she can hit the forehand across the court, down the line
:59:16. > :59:26.equally, and she conserving to any corner of the box with any kind of
:59:26. > :59:36.spin. She is almost embarrassed by her success, isn't she? It reminds
:59:36. > :59:46.me of what Maria did two so Arena. Serena was the more experienced
:59:46. > :59:49.
:59:49. > :59:58.players for -- player. Never in history of women's Grand Slams has
:59:58. > :00:04.a number eight seed won the title, until today! So she has broken that
:00:04. > :00:09.record as well. Thumbs-up from Martina, who picked her to win the
:00:09. > :00:15.tournament right from the start. Of course she knows that feeling well,
:00:15. > :00:22.too. She was always looking like a potential winner. If things went
:00:22. > :00:27.right, and they went so right today. It is pretty nice to go on and play
:00:27. > :00:31.a match when you see the ball like a football and you can't do any
:00:31. > :00:35.will star and a word for Maria Sharapova because she was not
:00:35. > :00:38.allowed to play her best today but semi-finals of the French she
:00:38. > :00:43.looked good and the final here, it is good to have her back. It is
:00:43. > :00:48.very good to have her back because it has been a long time after the
:00:48. > :00:52.surgery to come back a full circle. I think she is back all the way now.
:00:52. > :00:56.She just played against a player who was hot today. Similar styles
:00:56. > :01:01.of play but played it a bit better than the rear. You know she will be
:01:01. > :01:05.so disappointed, and she will get back on the practice court. That is
:01:05. > :01:08.exactly what she wants, more Grand Slam titles. You would think she
:01:08. > :01:14.would have enough, with the money and the titles but she is so
:01:14. > :01:18.passionate about the game. This will be tough for her to swallow.
:01:18. > :01:28.The only Grand Slam title she lost before this was again Serena
:01:28. > :01:29.
:01:29. > :01:36.Bakery the semi-finals had been decided, and the Williams sisters
:01:36. > :01:42.were not there, she would have been expecting it. She's so professional.
:01:42. > :01:45.Her mind is so tough. You thought she would come back. I was
:01:45. > :01:53.surprised that she went off the boil a bit in the middle of the
:01:53. > :02:03.second set. Kvitova threw in some marginally slower service, and
:02:03. > :02:04.
:02:04. > :02:08.suddenly, Maria got a bit messed up. She's a great player, I thought she
:02:08. > :02:12.might win the tournament, I thought she might win the French. I'm only
:02:12. > :02:18.disappointed from her point of view, I thought it was great for the game
:02:18. > :02:22.that Kvitova one this. After Royal, she's only 24 years old, Maria
:02:22. > :02:27.Sharapova. If she can stay in decent condition, hopefully I think
:02:27. > :02:31.people will appreciate her game and she will be up at the top. Just to
:02:31. > :02:36.get a comment from both of you about women's tennis - the Williams
:02:36. > :02:39.sisters are back, we have got new stars emerging, we have been very
:02:39. > :02:44.critical of the women's game, but you get a feeling that it is
:02:44. > :02:48.beginning to turn. And hopefully Kim Clijsters will be back as well.
:02:48. > :02:54.The Williams sisters, just not enough matchplay before Wimbledon
:02:54. > :02:59.to make a huge threat here. The women's game has taken some hits,
:02:59. > :03:02.but now we have a new star. Azarenka also get into the semi-
:03:02. > :03:08.finals of a Grand Slam for the first time. It is a transitional
:03:08. > :03:16.period. Li Na winning the French Open at 29 years old. Schiavone
:03:16. > :03:20.winning at last year at 29 Aug 30. There's a lot of stars. I thought
:03:20. > :03:24.it was very good news that the three most promising of the new
:03:24. > :03:30.generation got to the semi-finals. Sabine Lisicki, she was not quite
:03:30. > :03:35.ready to win this tournament, but boy, is she a threat? And Azarenka
:03:35. > :03:38.as well. I was listening to somebody on the radio today, saying
:03:38. > :03:43.that they had heard comments that the final might be a bit of an
:03:43. > :03:49.anti-climax. They said, no, there have been so many great matches on
:03:49. > :03:55.the women's side, so I think we turned a big corner. The men have
:03:55. > :04:00.got these superstars at the top. It is just a privileged generation.
:04:00. > :04:10.was a terrific final and a great story. Thank you very much, both of
:04:10. > :04:13.you. The Women's Final has been completed, but about to takes place
:04:13. > :04:21.is the men's doubles. It is the Bryan brothers. They have won this
:04:21. > :04:25.once before, Bob and Mike Bryan, up against last year's runners-up,
:04:25. > :04:31.Horia Tecau and Robert Lindstedt. Walking on to Centre Court for the
:04:31. > :04:34.doubles. They are a great story, the Bryan brothers. They have been
:04:35. > :04:39.around for a long time. They have won numerous Grand Slam titles.
:04:40. > :04:49.Before the tournament, John Inverdale caught up with the twin
:04:50. > :04:52.
:04:52. > :04:57.brothers from America. 71 tor titles, 10 Grand Slams, the best
:04:57. > :05:02.known doubles partnership in the world. So, where do you go for a
:05:02. > :05:06.chat with two of the most genial men of the tour? The pub. Was there
