:00:45. > :00:49.One. We are taking you straight to Centre Court as Andy Murray begins

:00:50. > :00:57.the defence of his Wimbledon title. He is up against the Spaniard,

:00:58. > :01:01.Roberto Bautista Agut. Murray knows and loves Centre Court well. It is

:01:02. > :01:09.Murray who is dictating play early on. He has just taken the first

:01:10. > :01:10.set. Let's join our commentators Tim Henman, John McEnroe and Andrew

:01:11. > :01:25.Castle. He is beginning to have that aura of

:01:26. > :01:30.invincibility on this court. Unless you are talking about Djokovic,

:01:31. > :01:47.Nadal and Federer. This is the story so far.

:01:48. > :02:14.I think one of the things that marks Murray out is posture and core

:02:15. > :02:36.strength. He works with a ballerina. Girl

:02:37. > :02:45.coaches, ballerinas, what are we saying here? ! Federer must have

:02:46. > :02:52.worked with a ballerina, he moves that way. The only Spanish player

:02:53. > :03:18.that Murray loses two is Nadal. It feels like the world is against

:03:19. > :04:13.him right now. The wind is out of his sails already.

:04:14. > :04:27.He has got to take some chances, move forward. And when you see him

:04:28. > :04:33.hit a volley like this, good technique out in front, really punch

:04:34. > :04:58.the ball, you ask why does he not do it in a bit more often?

:04:59. > :05:04.It is nice to see a seeded singles player playing in the doubles as

:05:05. > :05:27.well. In his first-round match, he and his partner won their match.

:05:28. > :05:42.SUE BARKER: We are staying with the tennis here on BBC One. If you are

:05:43. > :05:47.tuning in expecting to see The one Show, that is now over on BBC Two.

:05:48. > :05:54.We are staying with the tennis here on BBC One.

:05:55. > :06:02.Friday night, the end of the first week of the Championships, it is

:06:03. > :06:06.good here? We cannot have it any better than this. We thought we

:06:07. > :06:39.would be under the roof today. No need for that.

:06:40. > :06:48.I did not know there was a football tournament still going on. One of

:06:49. > :07:00.the countries we represent are still in. Back to Murray!

:07:01. > :07:09.Bautista Agut reckons he could beat Murray at football but tricky will

:07:10. > :07:46.be -- tennis will be tricky! Spain did not look good at the World Cup.

:07:47. > :07:52.If you are playing a guy like Murray and he is serving big, he does not

:07:53. > :07:55.have a lot of capability to win points off the first serve. The

:07:56. > :08:41.percentage will drop. You hesitate to draw attention to it

:08:42. > :08:50.but the delayed grant, it is confusing.

:08:51. > :09:10.Annoying would be accurate as well. Especially if you lose the point.

:09:11. > :10:34.At least he was getting up the court.

:10:35. > :11:20.He waits for the ball. You have to take a couple of steps to get in a

:11:21. > :11:38.better position. That is a low percentage shot from

:11:39. > :12:50.Bautista Agut there. Just so comfortable on this court.

:12:51. > :12:58.And comfortable with his game. He is the defending champion. And he won

:12:59. > :13:03.Olympic gold in this great city of London in 2012. Looking back at the

:13:04. > :13:07.London eye on this beautiful evening. The greatest city in the

:13:08. > :13:12.world, John McEnroe. It is a great city but I have to respectively

:13:13. > :13:17.disagree that it is the best in the world. That would be New York. It

:13:18. > :13:23.has improved since you first came here as they troublesome teenager.

:13:24. > :13:28.It seemed like a pretty good city then as well. We will stick your

:13:29. > :13:46.American Embassy near Battersea Power Station. I try to work out and

:13:47. > :13:51.get in a pool. Are you not playing the seniors this year? I will leave

:13:52. > :14:05.this to Tim. Are you going to play? No.

:14:06. > :14:13.It never looks like 15,000 people in here. That is the beauty of it.

:14:14. > :14:42.Sometimes you play in arenas with ten or 12000 and they look enormous.

:14:43. > :15:27.It has been pretty much faultless so far for Murray.

:15:28. > :15:34.That is just too good. Deliberately short, deliberately hitting the

:15:35. > :15:43.inside of the ball to have its spin away. That last shot from Murray was

:15:44. > :15:44.too good but Bautista Agut had a lot of great shots in that rally and had

:15:45. > :17:20.no reward for them. There is a thought from Bautista

:17:21. > :17:22.Agut that Murray might have carried this ball. The backspin was

:17:23. > :18:11.remarkable. That was a hamstring tester. If you

:18:12. > :18:26.are over 30! Some good serving. The huge

:18:27. > :18:37.difference in their ability to win points off the serve.

:18:38. > :19:04.Plenty of people in the grounds enjoying it on Henman Hill.

:19:05. > :19:11.I can see reasons the Harris hawk has not been doing his work! He

:19:12. > :19:27.should have seen this lot off -- Rufus.

:19:28. > :19:41.That was good speed from Bautista Agut.

:19:42. > :21:12.We have seen him move well side to side.

:21:13. > :21:18.SUE BARKER: Murray still leads by a break of serve. If you are tuning in

:21:19. > :21:22.and expecting to see The one Show, that is over on BBC Two. Here we are

:21:23. > :21:31.staying live with the tennis at Wimbledon.

:21:32. > :21:38.The direction of serve is vital. Andy Murray has not lost. That is a

:21:39. > :21:57.brutal statistic. Murray is comforted to know that if

:21:58. > :22:05.he hits the spot, that he will get a lot of easy points. What would you

:22:06. > :22:11.do, Tim, if you wear the Spaniard here? I think it was something we

:22:12. > :22:15.saw last night with Roger Federer against Gilles Muller. Federer

:22:16. > :22:21.served well but Muller never changed his court position. Federer hit the

:22:22. > :22:24.spots time and time again. I think for Bautista Agut, if he is

:22:25. > :22:29.struggling with Murray's serve, he has got to give him a different

:22:30. > :22:35.look. He could stand closer to the baseline, a long way back or in the

:22:36. > :23:00.tramline to break up the rhythm of it.

:23:01. > :23:53.Does taking the hat off count as a different look?

:23:54. > :25:02.This is a long way back to have to hit a passing shot.

:25:03. > :25:08.Last year Andy Murray had back surgery and has not won tournament

:25:09. > :25:12.since Wimbledon last year. Does that have any bearing on whether he will

:25:13. > :25:28.be able to defend here? The good news is that he is healthy.

:25:29. > :25:58.He played a fine match against Nadal on the clay in Rome.

:25:59. > :26:42.It is the predicament for a lot of players these days, there is not a

:26:43. > :27:29.plan B. Plan a is not working for Bautista Agut.

:27:30. > :27:40.He picks up another game. Andy Murray is hitting the ball cleanly

:27:41. > :27:46.here on Centre Court. Another question that you face after you

:27:47. > :27:53.have surgery, and I think you both have had surgery? Thankfully not.

:27:54. > :27:59.You question yourself, that 1%. You see the world a little differently

:28:00. > :28:05.afterwards. It is a bit of an ordeal and to trust yourself 100% in the

:28:06. > :28:09.area that has been operated on is a question. There is the physical

:28:10. > :28:15.aspects of rehab and getting back to the levels you were at lifting

:28:16. > :28:19.weights and running on the track. That is one challenge. Also the

:28:20. > :28:24.bigger challenge is trusting it mentally. Sometimes, pain can almost

:28:25. > :28:29.be ingrained on your mind. You are expecting it to hurt. I think for

:28:30. > :28:34.some time in the early part of this year, Murray had those issues. And

:28:35. > :28:44.then he played the match against Nadal and beat Carl Schreiber, the

:28:45. > :28:49.DAX go and Monfils. There was an issue and he felt there was no

:28:50. > :28:52.choice. It was a matter of time, convinced of that. But looking good

:28:53. > :30:42.now. He has got two breaks but he does

:30:43. > :31:11.not want to get careless here. It is nice when you put yourself in

:31:12. > :32:38.a position where you can afford to slip up for a few minutes.

:32:39. > :32:42.see a couple of Murray's second serves really setting up the last

:32:43. > :32:46.game before new balls are brought in. That should help them, if he is

:32:47. > :33:15.not to break. That was a screamer of a forehand.

:33:16. > :33:27.The challenge is coming very close. He could not have had it any better

:33:28. > :34:35.than that. The problem for Bautista Agut, he

:34:36. > :34:38.runs around his backhand and then goes from his forehand into

:34:39. > :35:11.Murray's forehand and leaves such a big hole.

:35:12. > :37:02.He has been saving that for the last 61 minutes.

:37:03. > :37:51.Impressive to see Bautista Agut save three set points there.

:37:52. > :38:09.So good. Andy Murray appears to be well on his way. UMPIRE: Murray

:38:10. > :38:13.leads by two sets to love. And the bad news from the Spaniard is that

:38:14. > :38:18.he has never come back from two sets down before. He is going to have to

:38:19. > :38:22.go where he has never been. And he has not played that many grand slam

:38:23. > :38:26.events. He has only had a chance to participate in matches where you

:38:27. > :38:30.play best of five over the last few. He made his Davis Cup debut this

:38:31. > :38:37.year as well. So a new boy for certain. What is discouraging is how

:38:38. > :38:43.every single time he steps up to serve, Murray feels like he has a

:38:44. > :38:51.good shot of breaking him. That gets in your head very quickly. Five

:38:52. > :38:57.times already in this match out of nine chances, Murray has broken. I'd

:38:58. > :39:05.get the feeling that these people on Henman Hill, this is the first place

:39:06. > :39:15.they are going this Friday. They are not heading home after this. It

:39:16. > :39:26.could have been a difficult one, weather-wise, on the Hill today.

:39:27. > :39:31.Every grand slam champion ship, we look for somebody to break the

:39:32. > :39:39.stranglehold. Every tournament, it seems that the big four names are

:39:40. > :39:44.present and dominating. They are very selfish guys. They know how to

:39:45. > :39:45.keep winning them. And that is exactly what they have been doing

:39:46. > :40:56.for years. Trying to come up with a plan B, do

:40:57. > :41:02.something different. Maybe bring Murray in. It would not appear that

:41:03. > :41:26.that would be a successful formula but credit to him for trying.

:41:27. > :41:32.The forehand has not been there for him either. Bautista Agut has not

:41:33. > :42:20.hit many winners at all. Murray is so confident that he is

:42:21. > :42:29.going after his strengths. Bautista Agut, zeroing in on breaking down

:42:30. > :42:37.his forehand. David Goffin, in the first round, that was his 450th win.

:42:38. > :42:45.He got rid of the Slovenian in 84 minutes. Talk about saving your

:42:46. > :42:49.energy. That's true. And with the schedule playing Monday, Wednesday,

:42:50. > :43:27.Friday, two days off at the weekend...

:43:28. > :43:46.Did he say adios? I think he said 10p knack -- "A dios.", which means

:43:47. > :44:02.all my God. I'd think he what hit him. The man

:44:03. > :44:08.that Murray is dismantling, he is 23rd in the world. If you were the

:44:09. > :44:12.23rd best football in the world, everybody would be making a big fuss

:44:13. > :44:13.about you. He has just won his first run and, it is a career-high

:44:14. > :44:46.ranking. -- first tournament. Just superb. Amelie Mauresmo,

:44:47. > :44:54.coaching Andy Murray, herself a champion at this level, Wimbledon

:44:55. > :45:46.2006. She beat Justin Hannon in both those finals. -- Justin Hannon.

:45:47. > :46:01.Back to the penalty shots. Right up the middle. I'm OK with that.

:46:02. > :46:12.This guy looks exhausted and he has been via an hour and 12 minutes. He

:46:13. > :46:33.comes tumbling down when he plays someone this good.

:46:34. > :46:40.SUE BARKER: Andy Murray on a charge in the third. If you are tuning in,

:46:41. > :46:43.wanting to see the one show, that is now on BBC Two because we are

:46:44. > :46:52.staying here with the match right through to the end on BBC One.

:46:53. > :46:57.Andrew Castle mag gorgeous views on Southwest London. It used to be a

:46:58. > :47:06.village. It is great for celebrity spotting. Many of them will take a

:47:07. > :47:14.house for Queens club. For a fortnight of London. Amelie

:47:15. > :47:27.Mauresmo, she skips around, but she did when she was winning Wimbledon.

:47:28. > :47:37.Not affected by the tour. The number one Court roof will be in place by

:47:38. > :48:15.2019. Pretty easy to coach Murray on the first week of Wimbledon.

:48:16. > :48:27.He is just looking for a little bit more respect. He does not want to

:48:28. > :48:38.get taken in this final set. Struggling to win points right now.

:48:39. > :48:51.He just does not win any free points of this server. -- off this server.

:48:52. > :48:54.No free points on serve and he does not have any weapons to really hurt

:48:55. > :49:19.Murray from the baseline. Murray is not missing a ball.

:49:20. > :49:25.The court that Murray is heading into seems to be longer and wider

:49:26. > :49:38.and with a lower net than the one that Bautista Agut is heading into.

:49:39. > :49:47.Few and far between for Bautista Agut. Still down to mag break

:49:48. > :49:49.points. And even after the run of points, Murray still hates losing

:49:50. > :50:37.any points. Coming into this match, most were

:50:38. > :50:41.saying that it was a step up in class, in terms of the rankings it

:50:42. > :50:50.was a step up to play against the Spaniard. But it is situation

:50:51. > :51:09.normal. Looking to dispatch a third straight opponent.

:51:10. > :52:39.The first double fault of this match.

:52:40. > :52:46.Again, you build up a big lead for yourself, and you afford the luxury

:52:47. > :52:51.of losing concentration. You do not want to do it, of course. Not a good

:52:52. > :52:55.game for Murray. A couple of doubles. And inevitable, but delayed

:52:56. > :53:22.a bit. It was not called out. He stopped

:53:23. > :53:27.playing. Plenty of time to swing. You better hope it's out. That is

:53:28. > :53:31.someone pulling your pants down there to let that happen. It was

:53:32. > :53:53.out. Way out. Happy for this young man, who has

:53:54. > :54:00.toiled through challengers and satellites for years trying to get

:54:01. > :54:03.into the big leagues. Testament to all you guys out there are

:54:04. > :54:06.struggling to make it. And in there, because good things will happen.

:54:07. > :54:12.That would have been rather embarrassing for him, clearly, as he

:54:13. > :54:17.feels right now because he has been outclassed, obviously. And he is

:54:18. > :54:28.starting to feel embarrassed. Not wanting to be out there. A lot of

:54:29. > :54:38.players say that but he was in the... He has practised a lot with

:54:39. > :54:48.Andy Murray. Very hard to know... If you do not have a second game to go

:54:49. > :54:51.back on. It is a reflection of how things have changed so much over the

:54:52. > :55:07.last few years. Bullying is a dying art.

:55:08. > :55:14.I think he has showed an ability to volley. It is just an unwillingness

:55:15. > :55:18.to go to a plan B. He has hit a couple of good volleys today. He has

:55:19. > :55:31.shown that some nice feel up there. Good touch.

:55:32. > :55:36.Dear we say serve and volley? Try that? Insane(!) I will believe it

:55:37. > :56:29.and see it -- when I'd see it. It looks like it caught on the line.

:56:30. > :56:36.Bautista Agut has decided not to challenge. He knew it was in. Trying

:56:37. > :56:49.to stall for a little time to regroup, to try to get another game.

:56:50. > :57:03.Good for him. Embarrassment avoided in this set.

:57:04. > :57:09.Success at challenges. I wonder how many times you would have been right

:57:10. > :57:16.if the Hawk-eye system had been in? I am predicting 88%. 28%, the

:57:17. > :57:27.average success rate last year for players.

:57:28. > :57:32.Out of the 72% that were wrong, two thirds of those will have done it

:57:33. > :57:37.for a different reason, to give themselves time to regroup. Only

:57:38. > :57:38.maybe a third of the time did they actually believe there was a

:57:39. > :57:49.mistake. It is like bathroom breaks. How many

:57:50. > :58:09.people go off at the end of the set to change the momentum.

:58:10. > :58:21.Was that called in? UMPIRE: Murray is challenging the call. The ball is

:58:22. > :58:26.called out. There is so much spring in his legs right now. So many

:58:27. > :58:30.choices of short but that was the worst shot to choose. That is when

:58:31. > :59:05.you were to set up, 4-2. So instead of being 40 love up, he

:59:06. > :59:10.has given Batista a good chance. Possibly, he could get back into

:59:11. > :59:12.this. Making life more difficult for himself. He needs to find one of

:59:13. > :59:28.those big serves. He had a good look at the break

:59:29. > :00:06.point there. A very makeable shot. A serve and volley for only the

:00:07. > :00:12.seventh time this week. They keep stats on everything. How the game

:00:13. > :00:22.has changed. Mum will be back in a minute because Jamie Murray is

:00:23. > :00:30.playing in the doubles. I remember view playing a young Andy Murray. Do

:00:31. > :00:34.you remember when you ambushed him, when you were put on court

:00:35. > :00:41.unfairly? He was not expecting anything like that? Do you remember

:00:42. > :00:51.that? At Wembley Arena. He was 11. Probably. Around there. 2004, I

:00:52. > :01:01.believe. Six to one. The only time I've ever played with them. -- with

:01:02. > :01:06.him. There is your Strictly Come Dancing champion for 2014. I am not

:01:07. > :01:38.that deluded. Could I'd get a game? It was not that long ago that Paul

:01:39. > :02:09.Davies had a little tape of that show.

:02:10. > :03:43.The other thing that is good, Bautista Agut is at least happy to

:03:44. > :03:45.be out there. That is good to see. Competing hard, to his credit. To

:03:46. > :04:05.the last shot. He deserves to get a hold here and

:04:06. > :05:02.make Murray serve this out. think it was in though. He needs a

:05:03. > :05:14.rest. These are body blows. Throwing the weight of his ground strokes

:05:15. > :05:19.onto the line. No respite. UMPIRE: Two challenges remaining. Rank you.

:05:20. > :05:43.-- thank you. Even that was in. Applause --

:05:44. > :06:36.APPLAUSE. Putt ladies and gentlemen, do not

:06:37. > :07:21.call out when the players are about to start -- UMPIRE:.

:07:22. > :07:28.practice to make the game this easy. Match point against four Andy

:07:29. > :07:32.Murray. -- match point again for Andy Murray.

:07:33. > :08:23.That He is playing really well. He could possibly win another game. He

:08:24. > :08:29.did not feel too good about that. That was a heavy sit down for

:08:30. > :08:40.perhaps a foot or so. His feed went from under him. -- feet. He is

:08:41. > :08:53.definitely hurting. Match point again.

:08:54. > :09:09.You never know, if Roberto Bautista-Agut can get through this

:09:10. > :09:25.game and make a start on the next one, he could extend the match.

:09:26. > :09:57.You wonder why he does not do that every time.

:09:58. > :10:16.He is down again. This time, Andy Murray stays in. They are great

:10:17. > :10:21.friends, going back a long way, but no mercy shown by Andy Murray.

:10:22. > :10:43.Wonderful performance. It really was. Well, so much for a harder

:10:44. > :10:49.challenge. Mary goes into the second week with fully charged batteries

:10:50. > :10:55.and full of confidence -- Andy Murray. It was a harder challenge,

:10:56. > :11:01.but he's stepped up his game even further. Let us credit this guy who

:11:02. > :11:05.has come a long way in the last couple of years, finally won

:11:06. > :11:10.tournament, but hopefully he will learn from something like this.

:11:11. > :11:16.Obviously, there are things he needs to improve. Work on different

:11:17. > :11:25.things, different plans, because he has a lot of ability. Perhaps more

:11:26. > :11:37.than he is aware of. What shape do you think Andy Murray is in now? I

:11:38. > :11:41.think his performance this week has been great. He is hitting the ball

:11:42. > :11:46.cleanly from the baseline. I like the way he is attacking off the

:11:47. > :11:51.backhand side. He is physically in great shape, moving well, he has a

:11:52. > :11:57.couple of days off, then ready to start all over again, it on the

:11:58. > :12:04.second Monday. He is always the centre of attention. For the first

:12:05. > :12:21.time in 77 years, a we have got a Wimbledon champion, but he handles

:12:22. > :12:27.it well. He enjoys it. This is the only surface where he moves better

:12:28. > :12:40.than anyone. On hard courts he was great, but here, he gets it. He is

:12:41. > :12:48.faster than Roger Federer. He moves faster and he does not slip very

:12:49. > :12:53.often. That is absolutely true. Roger... Obviously he is magnificent

:12:54. > :13:07.and not getting any younger. It is harder to do it now as quickly as

:13:08. > :13:17.Andy Murray. It is the next half where he is in with Novak Djokovic.

:13:18. > :13:24.This was short work here. The net is being taken down. That is it. It was

:13:25. > :13:30.not a one-man show, that would be unfair to Roberto Bautista-Agut. He

:13:31. > :13:32.put up a decent fight, but ultimately Andy Murray was too good

:13:33. > :13:39.and he is talking to our correspondent. It did not look

:13:40. > :13:45.and he is talking to our made you work hard at the end,

:13:46. > :13:47.however. He has won a lot of matches lately. He won on the

:13:48. > :13:54.Holland and made a lot of improvements. He is ranked 18th in

:13:55. > :14:02.the world now. He fights extremely hard. I just managed to hang in and

:14:03. > :14:07.it was good to get it done in straight sets. Is that the best you

:14:08. > :14:11.think you have performed so far in this tournament? He is the best

:14:12. > :14:14.opponent I have played. He is seeded and has come in with confidence

:14:15. > :14:19.after winning a tournament last week. He is a step up, I felt I

:14:20. > :14:26.responded well. There are things I could do better, but it has been a

:14:27. > :14:31.good first week. You won all your matches in straight sets, are you

:14:32. > :14:36.feeling battle hardened? I had enough long matches in the French

:14:37. > :14:42.Open, so I wanted to get physically ready. You will get tested at some

:14:43. > :14:45.point jarring these events and sometimes it happens in the first

:14:46. > :14:49.round and sometimes later on, you have to be mentally ready and

:14:50. > :14:56.prepared and I try to do that. Next up, Kevin Anderson, he says it will

:14:57. > :15:01.be difficult for him to control his nerves, I do not suppose you will

:15:02. > :15:06.mind that, what do you think of him? He is a tough opponent. He is like

:15:07. > :15:13.Roberto Bautista-Agut, he is playing the best tennis of his career so

:15:14. > :15:20.far. He has made some improvements. He is a big guy with the big game. I

:15:21. > :15:24.need to be sharp and return well if I want to win. I'm not sure how much

:15:25. > :15:30.you get a chance to look around out there, but you can see on the faces

:15:31. > :15:36.of people, every time you play, it is turning into a British carnival,

:15:37. > :15:40.do you feel that out there? Once I get out on the court, I tried to

:15:41. > :15:49.avoid it when I am not a way from the court, but I see it when I am on

:15:50. > :15:54.the court. When I get on the court, it is great, the atmosphere has been

:15:55. > :16:00.fantastic so far. It gives me a big lift and I will need it as the

:16:01. > :16:03.tournament goes on and I hope they keep making more noise.

:16:04. > :16:10.Congratulations, your brother won as well tonight. It is a shame that we

:16:11. > :16:16.were on at the same time, none of my family came to watch me! My brother

:16:17. > :16:23.is the priority, he is the number one son! That is why I am so

:16:24. > :16:29.competitive. A sad story, but thank you very much! How lovely was that!

:16:30. > :16:34.Andy Murray, another masterful performance from him, his defence of

:16:35. > :16:38.the Wimbledon title is going well and we look forward to the second

:16:39. > :16:43.week with Andy Murray in tremendous form. If you want to see more

:16:44. > :16:52.tennis, you can on BBC Two, our highlight show is at 20 past eight,

:16:53. > :17:00.but here, East Enders is set to follow. Tomorrow we have a glorious

:17:01. > :17:05.order of play, setting off with Rafa Nadal and Maria Sharapova and Roger

:17:06. > :17:09.Federer in the evening. That is it for today, Andy Murray is through to

:17:10. > :17:11.the second week, yet to drop a set, it has been quite relaxing, really,

:17:12. > :18:01.goodbye. Hello, I'm Riz Lateef with

:18:02. > :18:04.your 90-second update. A bad day for Europe -

:18:05. > :18:06.that's how David Cameron described the vote for the new head

:18:07. > :18:08.of the European Commission. Only Hungary joined Britain to

:18:09. > :18:11.oppose Jean-Claude Juncker. The PM says he's

:18:12. > :18:14.the wrong person to reform the EU. A former advisor to David Cameron

:18:15. > :18:16.has been charged with making and possessing child abuse images.
