:00:47. > :00:56.Here we go again. A heck of a shot from Murray. The writing is over.
:00:57. > :01:11.Andy Murray is the Wimbledon champion. Murray loves that. He
:01:12. > :01:15.loves it. Who knows what is ahead? That is a day we will never forget,
:01:16. > :01:20.back in 2013 when Andy Murray became the first British man to win in a
:01:21. > :01:24.building in 77 years. Here he is on the practice court this morning, and
:01:25. > :01:28.has title number two in asides. He's been the best tennis in his career,
:01:29. > :01:37.the man who steered him to do grand slam titles is back in his corner,
:01:38. > :01:40.even mental -- Ivan Lendl. Good afternoon. Andy Murray will begin
:01:41. > :01:44.his challenge at Wimbledon, and you won't have long to wait because he
:01:45. > :01:49.is second on Centre Court, but we have a feast of tennis this
:01:50. > :01:57.afternoon. Andy is one of the stars in action on day two of the
:01:58. > :02:02.championship. Andy is on Centre Court and there he will face today a
:02:03. > :02:07.familiar foe. Standing in his way is the Broady, North is all British
:02:08. > :02:14.meeting at whim of them for 15 years. Serena Williams is bidding
:02:15. > :02:21.for a seven crown and is already underway on centre. Stan Wawrinka
:02:22. > :02:27.has yet to take to grasp but has former champion Richard Krajicek in
:02:28. > :02:32.his corner. Jo Konta has gone to the wildcard to 16 seed in 12 months.
:02:33. > :02:37.Can she continue her remarkable rise? Looking to shed a limelight is
:02:38. > :02:42.Heather Watson, he will hope to put aside her recent struggles. Two-time
:02:43. > :02:51.champion Petra veto over has yet to win a title, but is still one of the
:02:52. > :02:55.favourites -- Kvitova. Let's see where you can see them. Serena
:02:56. > :03:01.Williams on court, then Andy Murray and last on Centre Court, Wozniacki,
:03:02. > :03:07.the former world in a one against Svetlana Kuznetsova. Stan Wawrinka
:03:08. > :03:12.on court against the talented 18 role from America Taylor Fritz, then
:03:13. > :03:20.Jo Konta faces a tough opener against Monica Puig. And Kvitova
:03:21. > :03:33.complete the line-up. On Court Number Two, Nick Kyrgios. Bernard
:03:34. > :03:35.Tomic there. Heather Watson, she will be hoping the rain does not
:03:36. > :03:48.compare match. That is what we can look forward to
:03:49. > :03:52.come this has happened already. Cibulkova has continued her
:03:53. > :04:00.impressive form. She has gone through in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
:04:01. > :04:09.She is only by boat free but packs a punch and will be one to watch. --
:04:10. > :04:16.five foot three. She is through and you will face the Australian who
:04:17. > :04:26.came through in her match. She lost the first set 6-2, but came back
:04:27. > :04:35.strongly winning 6-3, 6-4. In the Men's Singles, Troicki, seeded 25,
:04:36. > :04:43.he has won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. He is through in straight
:04:44. > :04:53.sets. Andy Murray faces Liam Broady on Centre Court, and the winner of
:04:54. > :04:58.that match will face the man from China, who came free straight sets
:04:59. > :05:05.today. He is a winner and food to phase I bet Broady or Murray.
:05:06. > :05:10.The two-time semifinalist, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was out on court
:05:11. > :05:14.12 today and the 12 seed came through in three sets, 6-3, 7-6,
:05:15. > :05:26.6-4. One popular player, to another, and
:05:27. > :05:32.Dustin Brown who cause a sensation at Wimbledon. He has gone through,
:05:33. > :05:36.what the bottle it was, 6-4 in the third set, but you can see a packed
:05:37. > :05:40.crowd. Everyone living to watch this great entertainer, Dustin Brown.
:05:41. > :05:44.Needed a wildcard, and he has rewarded the championship committee
:05:45. > :05:53.by bringing off a superb five set victory out on court today. We will
:05:54. > :05:57.be heading off to Centre Court is in the ladies defending champion in a
:05:58. > :06:01.moment, but I keep mentioning weather permitting because we hear
:06:02. > :06:06.there is some rain on the way, so Carol, when is the rain going to
:06:07. > :06:12.arrive? Around about three o'clock we could see some spot in the sky,
:06:13. > :06:17.cloud is building. The band of rain coming our way at IBM, as we go
:06:18. > :06:21.through the afternoon. It won't be raining all the time, we'll have
:06:22. > :06:26.some breaks in it, but when it clears at 8pm, we are not immune to
:06:27. > :06:28.some showers. We are likely to see some interruption to play through
:06:29. > :06:34.the latter part of the afternoon into the early part of the evening.
:06:35. > :06:40.Tomorrow, we start off on a brighter note but at 12, 1pm, we are looking
:06:41. > :06:44.at further rain, which will last for a bit longer, perhaps not clearing
:06:45. > :06:50.until seven. When it is clear, we're not immune to some showers. Some
:06:51. > :06:54.good news, on Thursday it looks we will see some sunshine, a lot of dry
:06:55. > :07:02.weather and just an isolated chance of a shower. Lovely, thank you,
:07:03. > :07:06.Carol. Not good news for those sitting on Henman Hill, they might
:07:07. > :07:13.have to get the brothers. Before we head to Centre Court, just to update
:07:14. > :07:19.you on a couple of matches. Aljaz Bedene is an action, and maybe not
:07:20. > :07:26.be too long because he is two sets- 02 Richard Gasquet, that match is on
:07:27. > :07:32.the red button. 15 chords on line, including the match involving Nick
:07:33. > :07:38.Kyrgios. He has had a code violation, although we are looking
:07:39. > :07:48.at Radek Stepanek. Kyrgios has had a code violation for swearing, but he
:07:49. > :07:53.is 2-1, as a point to go 3-0. We are going to the Lady's defending
:07:54. > :07:57.champion, Serena Williams, he was up against Amra Sadikovic, who is
:07:58. > :08:03.playing in her first grand slam match. What a way to start, on the
:08:04. > :08:12.web most famous court in the world. Let's join our commentators, Lindsay
:08:13. > :08:17.Davenport, John McEnroe. Another important game, two breaks in the
:08:18. > :08:21.opening set, nervous start. She had those break points at the start of
:08:22. > :08:23.the match against Serena Williams, who was also tight. She desperately
:08:24. > :08:59.needs to get on the scoreboard here. She did so well. JOHN MCENROE: The
:09:00. > :09:02.crowd appreciates her ability to handle the situation and what she is
:09:03. > :09:10.bringing to the table, which is the kitchen sink. To be blunt, she is
:09:11. > :09:19.trying everything to throw Serena Arp. She's had some chances.
:09:20. > :09:25.Good example again then. Big variety on the big hand, the slices were
:09:26. > :09:30.effective. She's been disruptive when she's been on top of her game,
:09:31. > :09:37.a couple of weak points, the second server where Serena has time to
:09:38. > :09:42.attack. Anyone who can utilise their field, their touch, their slice,
:09:43. > :09:48.move forward. And at the same time, still drive some ground strokes as
:09:49. > :10:15.well. Serena has not been getting much rhythm from her opponent.
:10:16. > :10:23.You would not call that your typical return. It looked like she wanted to
:10:24. > :10:24.come in on it. Ended up slicing a forehand, floating it literally, and
:10:25. > :11:19.got an error. That is forcing it from Serena
:11:20. > :11:28.there. It looks like so much tension in her hands holding the rocket. It
:11:29. > :11:55.is her fifth chance. Sadikovic to break.
:11:56. > :12:05.What a reaction from Sadikovic when she did break. Good, strong this
:12:06. > :12:12.pump up to her camp. You love to see that, a player not intimidated to
:12:13. > :12:17.play against Serena. She has been, and certainly started off
:12:18. > :12:23.intimidated, overwhelmed, and I think what she is feeding off and
:12:24. > :12:29.feeling from Serena is really helping her to get in this match. To
:12:30. > :12:35.be able to look up and pumped her fist and say, I could do something,
:12:36. > :12:39.maybe win this match. It is amazing to think a couple of years ago she
:12:40. > :12:45.was working in a tennis club, she quit, could not afford to play,
:12:46. > :12:51.stopped enjoying it. She ignited her desire, came back, and here she is
:12:52. > :12:55.as she is doing a pretty good job, she is 27. With her career where it
:12:56. > :13:04.has been, she has only one three matches in her life. Never played a
:13:05. > :13:13.grand slam. In her life. It is amazing, she can breathe. The main
:13:14. > :13:16.draw, Centre Court, Wimbledon, Serena Williams. Up one break. Maybe
:13:17. > :14:31.she should stop. The first double fault for a while,
:14:32. > :14:57.is let her down at the start of this match.
:14:58. > :15:07.There is a great illustration of the variety that Serena is facing from
:15:08. > :15:29.her opponent. Top-spin to slice backhand.
:15:30. > :15:36.It is like she is trying to pump herself up. It should not be too
:15:37. > :15:58.tough to do that. You are at Wimbledon.
:15:59. > :16:06.Seeing this, just the expression, it is almost reminding everybody of the
:16:07. > :16:11.history here. It does not make a lot of sense, she's playing somebody
:16:12. > :16:23.ranked 148 in the world. It does not, it is not logical. She is over
:16:24. > :16:30.trying in the first round, in this kind of game, you can only imagine
:16:31. > :16:37.the journeys ahead. First round the you build up, in case she hasn't
:16:38. > :16:46.played since the French. You build it up in your mind, it is nice to
:16:47. > :16:55.get it out of the way. A straight back. That we expected. When you
:16:56. > :16:59.believe you can do something, your expectations rise. Unfortunately,
:17:00. > :17:23.the level drops. Did you both get feelings in matches
:17:24. > :17:27.at times when you knew whatever happens, whatever happened, you are
:17:28. > :17:32.going to win the match? You would find a way? I don't think you are
:17:33. > :17:39.ever 100% sure. He tried to get yourself, that is what you work for,
:17:40. > :17:45.to get that age. Your feeling is as close to that, you can, without
:17:46. > :17:54.certainty. You never want to say it is over will stop you don't want to
:17:55. > :17:59.totally relax. I am not sure if it is Serena, I'm not sure if she is
:18:00. > :18:03.scared. She now knows the level she needs to play at to hold the trophy,
:18:04. > :18:07.possibly. And she hasn't been able to play at that level in the two
:18:08. > :18:13.grand slam finals she's played this year. And she has trying to raise
:18:14. > :18:21.her standard, but maybe little bit too early in this tournament.
:18:22. > :18:30.It is so often said, the real Serena Williams turns up, she wins, end of
:18:31. > :18:37.conversation. It is just a question, because is the real Serena Williams
:18:38. > :18:38.going to turn up? Other players have garnered more believed with results
:18:39. > :18:53.recently. The only other time I've seen Serena
:18:54. > :19:05.get hit of a court, in a grand slam final, was when Sharrock over --
:19:06. > :19:17.Sharapova beat her. Serena did not have a big say in how the match was
:19:18. > :19:22.played. Think of how she did from when that match took place and to
:19:23. > :19:27.now. Something tells me she will figure it out. Correct that record
:19:28. > :20:14.of Steffi Graf. Six minutes shy of one hour, it is
:20:15. > :20:19.something you always talked about Steffi Graf. If people can keep them
:20:20. > :20:25.out there, it will go over one hour, that's for sure. It is a credit to
:20:26. > :20:31.Serena that the bar is so high, that we say, will the real Serena show up
:20:32. > :20:36.in seven matches. The real Serena does not have to show up for seven
:20:37. > :20:41.matches, just one or two. She has to pick the right one or two to do it.
:20:42. > :20:45.She does not have to be her best, she does not have to beat this
:20:46. > :20:52.killed today. There are few people who can force her into a position...
:20:53. > :20:57.That goes back to my point, would you suggest she comes out at 100%?
:20:58. > :21:02.In other words, the very best Serena. She should always play with
:21:03. > :21:06.intensity, as long as she doesn't wind herself of too much. It is
:21:07. > :21:15.about being ready emotionally as opposed to expect in the level, you
:21:16. > :21:19.don't need the level to be there. A series win down under for the rugby
:21:20. > :21:38.team. A bit of good news for England. It has been a tough week.
:21:39. > :22:55.Jill Brooke sitting next to Dominic Cooper, an actor.
:22:56. > :23:06.This is where Sadikovic really needs to want a good first serve here. It
:23:07. > :23:19.has not been very successful with the second serve points, just 36%.
:23:20. > :23:20.That is a sloppy error from Serena. Knock it down that forehand, didn't
:23:21. > :24:04.get up to it. Wow, scare tactic worked. Free- free
:24:05. > :24:32.-- 3-3, second set. It has put a spring in his step.
:24:33. > :24:47.You have two admire the game plan. She came in with an idea of what she
:24:48. > :24:52.wanted to do. Serena not covering that line should the way she needed
:24:53. > :24:55.to do, that was the only shot she could hit from that position, that
:24:56. > :25:14.line open. That second serve has been proper
:25:15. > :25:22.Matic four Serena. You can see there, the speed is ten mph less
:25:23. > :25:28.averaging to date. She does not feel confident on that second serve. That
:25:29. > :25:40.was one of the reasons why it was so difficult to attack that shot. It is
:25:41. > :25:46.odd to see Serena then sure of all the shots, the serve, it has always
:25:47. > :25:54.been the most reliable part of her game.
:25:55. > :26:07.With average first serve, it was about 104 mph. Is that the
:26:08. > :26:16.superhuman Serena serve we've watched for a dozen years? She has
:26:17. > :26:31.served more aces in the tournament than men. Five sets. We've always
:26:32. > :26:38.talked about the biggest weapon in women's tennis. There it is. Sees
:26:39. > :26:53.her in front at 4-3, second set. It is really fascinating watching
:26:54. > :26:57.this battle with Serena and herself and getting this record. I know we
:26:58. > :27:06.are banging on about it, but it is the main talking point with Serena,
:27:07. > :27:12.isn't it? I think she wants to erase any doubt in anyone's mind she is
:27:13. > :27:15.the best that ever played the game, and so there are people out there
:27:16. > :27:20.who would say, if you don't break these records, Steffi Graf, you
:27:21. > :27:30.can't be considered, even if it was a given Kira, even if Steffi Graf's
:27:31. > :27:35.topped 29. -- a different era. Bjorn Borg played at once. There are
:27:36. > :27:42.things you can look at and say, these people win a lot more. Given
:27:43. > :27:45.that over the course of the last 20 years, when Australia did such a
:27:46. > :27:50.good job of improving their facilities and getting everyone to
:27:51. > :27:54.play, and the recognition of what it would mean to win more Grand Slams,
:27:55. > :27:59.the pressure has mounted on the people like Serena, trying to
:28:00. > :28:05.establish themselves as the great, the greatest of the greats. Basing a
:28:06. > :28:12.number of the greats, the Chelsea Pensioners. Bain might have been
:28:13. > :28:51.around then -- they might. How well left is that! Everyone was
:28:52. > :28:54.holding their breath. It is or is dangerous to leave a floating ball,
:28:55. > :29:02.which could be put away for a volley. I bought a better challenge
:29:03. > :29:14.there, but we have an open court, you don't want to take that risk.
:29:15. > :29:56.Footwork. Yes. Reached for that return.
:29:57. > :30:07.Maybe this one will work better. She has gone for a slightly losers
:30:08. > :30:15.one or an even tighter one, having missed long? I would go losinger,
:30:16. > :30:23.because of the stress, she is not feeling it, get some power, easy
:30:24. > :30:35.power. Of course, if you go tighter, then you have to swing harder.
:30:36. > :31:13.Marginal difference either way. The tension, I would bet on that.
:31:14. > :31:17.Good job recognising that drop shot was coming, Serena moving forward,
:31:18. > :32:10.nicely there. It is no surprise at all she has
:32:11. > :32:16.manged to make this as competitive as she has. It is interesting to
:32:17. > :32:20.watch Serena and see how she is playing some of these points,
:32:21. > :32:23.playing not the lose, we have talked about the tension that you can just
:32:24. > :32:36.see in her game. New balls in play, if play. That
:32:37. > :33:27.should help Serena here. Five of those. Three this one game.
:33:28. > :33:40.Fifth game of the match. Still held serve.
:33:41. > :33:46.So after when you feel insecure about your second serve it carries
:33:47. > :33:51.over do your fist, you don't want to hit a lot of second, do you go for
:33:52. > :33:56.your first serve? That is always the shot you want most solid and sound
:33:57. > :34:06.in your game. That second serve, no doubts.
:34:07. > :34:15.Think she was pleased to serve, really. That second 76mph.
:34:16. > :34:20.You never hear a player say my forehand was off today, and
:34:21. > :34:23.effective my serve. So often when it goes off it affects
:34:24. > :35:01.everything now. I probably watched her play a couple
:35:02. > :35:08.of hundred times at least, and I would have to say this ranks as one
:35:09. > :35:11.of, for her, the bar so high, we talk the greatest shot in the
:35:12. > :35:17.women's game or serve, but this is one of the worst serving efforts I
:35:18. > :35:22.have seen from her. You pin that down? Obviously she
:35:23. > :35:29.would only know, I guess, got any hints as to why? Nerves is playing a
:35:30. > :35:33.big part in it. She has phenomenally athletic strong legs that she
:35:34. > :35:38.doesn't seem to be using as well as she normally does. The issue is
:35:39. > :35:45.nerves again, or whatever she is feeling that is contributing to her
:35:46. > :35:50.inability to sort of focus on what would be second nature. I mean
:35:51. > :35:57.barely have to think about it. This is what is giving other players
:35:58. > :36:03.hope, when they see this is that aura of inVince built is seeping
:36:04. > :36:06.away. Other players have to hang tougher, hoping that something like
:36:07. > :36:14.this could happen when they play her, knowing they are better than
:36:15. > :36:22.this. Very few free points with her serve. Two or three.
:36:23. > :36:23.Normally it is two or three a game. Serving to stay in the match,
:36:24. > :36:44.Sadikovic. If you take into account she is
:36:45. > :36:51.struggling on her serve and not playing particularly well and out of
:36:52. > :36:55.sort, a 6-2, 6-4 win won't be a disaster by in means. You lose sight
:36:56. > :36:59.of the fact she is still a few points from winning this. Let us
:37:00. > :37:02.hope she thinks that, Serena in this quest, as opposed to the alarm bells
:37:03. > :37:21.ringing. I would never look at this tape
:37:22. > :37:32.again, don't even bother. Just move on, just forget it, win
:37:33. > :37:57.the second round. No reason.
:37:58. > :38:12.It's out. It's out. What a shame. She is challenging. Ladies and
:38:13. > :38:19.gentlemen, Miss Sadikovic is challenging the call. Did Serena
:38:20. > :38:29.break her string? Something with the racket.
:38:30. > :38:36.Everything has been a little highly strung today. You couldn't help
:38:37. > :38:57.yourself! Yourself! Three match points.
:38:58. > :39:29.It's in. Doesn't want it to be over quite yet.
:39:30. > :39:35.Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Williams is challenging the call on the
:39:36. > :39:36.baseline. The stress, look at the stress
:39:37. > :39:56.there. It gets better now. She has won her
:39:57. > :40:03.match at Wimbledon. Beaten ten times at SW19. Terrific embrace for the
:40:04. > :40:09.qualifier Amra Sadikovic. She is amazing, winning or losing, at that
:40:10. > :40:11.moment Serena. The defending champion. The history. She is
:40:12. > :40:23.through to round two. Rarely if ever have I Sheerhan
:40:24. > :40:27.challenge any call so it is nice that she finally did and won the
:40:28. > :40:33.match on it. Maybe she will do it a little more often. Nice ending for
:40:34. > :40:41.Serena after a few wobbles in that second set. There is no question she
:40:42. > :40:48.has room to improve. Really, just, the tension, and the anxiety she
:40:49. > :40:53.feels on court. She got through today which was the
:40:54. > :40:57.biggest test for Serena. And for Sadikovic, Lyndsey, what day for
:40:58. > :41:01.her. Amazing, we have talked about it before, how a player who has
:41:02. > :41:05.never played a Grand Slam match handled this kind of occasion and
:41:06. > :41:17.she did so beautifully, and this has to be the career experience of her
:41:18. > :41:18.life so far. Both players walk off with a smile for completely
:41:19. > :41:38.different reasons. The obligatories. Will she win
:41:39. > :41:43.Wimbledon this year, do you think is this Serena? Every match is
:41:44. > :41:47.different, every match is a different ride, a different
:41:48. > :41:51.performance. A different mind set from Serena, so still the favourite
:41:52. > :41:57.to win, it will be interesting to see who she has to beat along the
:41:58. > :42:06.way. Aggressive player, players more comfortable on grass. And to see how
:42:07. > :42:17.she embraces this moment, the next 12 days. Extraordinary record, where
:42:18. > :42:24.ever she plays but 80 wins here. Just 10 losses. Hard to bet against
:42:25. > :42:32.that. The inevitable selfies. She could be
:42:33. > :42:39.there a while. Does mum ever get stressed about
:42:40. > :42:47.anything? Not just one daughter but have to live in, be in that role
:42:48. > :42:52.twice. To be the mum of two daughter who have won Wimbledon 11 times
:42:53. > :43:00.between them. So many highs but she has been there for whatever lows the
:43:01. > :43:09.sisters have encountered as well. She has been such a strong force for
:43:10. > :43:15.them. So round one done. Into the tournament, Serena.
:43:16. > :43:22.What next? And what emotion are we going to be sharing with her, in her
:43:23. > :43:28.quest of history? Hour and 13 minutes Serena Williams wins 6-2,
:43:29. > :43:33.6-4. She is about to talk to Lee McKenzie.
:43:34. > :43:36.Congratulations, straight sets victory, but with a tougher opponent
:43:37. > :43:40.than you may have thought beforehand? I never underestimate
:43:41. > :43:43.anyone, so it was a really good match. But I I don't think it was
:43:44. > :43:47.tougher than I thought, it was definitely tough, but I always
:43:48. > :43:51.expect the best from everyone. In terms of your own performance, what
:43:52. > :43:59.pleased you most out there? I started fast, so that is a start for
:44:00. > :44:01.me. That is about it. But you were celebrating points that came your
:44:02. > :44:10.your way but you looked like you were shouting at yourself and
:44:11. > :44:13.pushing yourself. This is me, I am always shouting at myself and
:44:14. > :44:18.pushing myself, so it is actually nothing different. You are back on
:44:19. > :44:22.Centre Court, you family were in the Royal Box, how special is it to be
:44:23. > :44:26.back at women? It is great to be back at Wimbledon. Mum was in the
:44:27. > :44:29.Royal Box, so that was nice, I have to get my dad to come out here.
:44:30. > :44:36.Everyone had a good start. Thank you so much. Thank you.
:44:37. > :44:40.Lovely for her mum to be in the Royal Box, and to see her daughter
:44:41. > :44:44.with a straight sets victory, so Serena Williams challenge here at
:44:45. > :44:50.Wimbledon continue, and she has her sights set on winning that elusive
:44:51. > :44:54.22nd Grand Slam title, but what a lovely match to open up proceedings
:44:55. > :44:59.on the second day of the Championship. Swill, the world
:45:00. > :45:04.number one through in straight sets. -- Serena Williams. A little twirl
:45:05. > :45:07.from Serena on centre. Let us find out what is happening on Court One
:45:08. > :45:11.where Stanislas Wawrinka looks in charge, two sets to love up against
:45:12. > :45:17.the 18-year-old American Taylor Fritz. That is on BBC Two right now
:45:18. > :45:27.and a match you can see on the Red Button is on Court Three, Vinci
:45:28. > :45:33.finalist at the US Open last year, two games all, early stages. Many
:45:34. > :45:38.matches online as well for you to follow, including the match on court
:45:39. > :45:46.16 that features Katie swan, a wildcard, into the Championships.
:45:47. > :45:54.And there we will see it in a moment, and she has lost the first
:45:55. > :45:59.set six games to two. And one match point to bring you,
:46:00. > :46:03.Nick Kyrgios is through in four sets against Radek Stepanek of the cheque
:46:04. > :46:10.republic, he had match point in the third set. Lost it on the tie-break
:46:11. > :46:16.but come back strongly, -- Czech Republic, he is through to face
:46:17. > :46:19.Dustin Brown in the next round. He put out Nadal last year, what a
:46:20. > :46:23.match that will be. So here on Centre Court, Serena the
:46:24. > :46:27.defending champion is through, next on court, it will feature Andy
:46:28. > :46:29.Murray, and who can forget what happened here on this court, three
:46:30. > :46:48.years ago. Here we go again.
:46:49. > :46:55.Heck of a shot by Murray there. The waiting is over. Andy Murray is
:46:56. > :47:02.the Wimbledon champion. Murray loves that.
:47:03. > :47:09.He loves it. Who knows what's ahead? That is a
:47:10. > :47:13.day that we will never forget. I have just walked down from the
:47:14. > :47:16.studio, there is a piper out on the street with the bagpipe, they are
:47:17. > :47:21.all going to get supporting Andy Murray and I am sure they will be
:47:22. > :47:25.supporting on the hill as well. It is an all British affair as he takes
:47:26. > :47:30.on Liam Broady, Murray against Broady that is the match we are
:47:31. > :47:34.looking forward to, Centre Court await, Andy's challenge here at
:47:35. > :47:38.Wimbledon. John and Tim are with me reliving 2013. That was day the
:47:39. > :47:42.British sport will never forget They are never going to forget yesterday
:47:43. > :47:50.either for a different reason, but so let us focus on... You promised
:47:51. > :47:55.you wow wouldn't say anything. His best shot against Novak is the gap
:47:56. > :47:58.is close, the Klose for him, I think here, and he would be the most
:47:59. > :48:03.confident. Not that he didn't play great in the first set o at the
:48:04. > :48:07.French. Not he didn't beat him at the Open on hard Court, he has to
:48:08. > :48:12.relish the chance to get him again in the final. You feel Murray is a
:48:13. > :48:15.better player now than he was in 2000. The bad news is so is
:48:16. > :48:22.Djokovic. There is no doubt about it. Djokovic has continued to raise
:48:23. > :48:25.the bar. You look at the 12 months, winning the four major, how
:48:26. > :48:30.consistently he has played in the biggest events. I agree with John, I
:48:31. > :48:34.don't like toing it. On a grass court Murray has never lost to him.
:48:35. > :48:38.He beat him in the Olympics as well, and I think that is where Lendl, you
:48:39. > :48:48.know, if they were to get that match up would have a part to play. OK,
:48:49. > :49:00.here they come. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
:49:01. > :49:06.Andy Murray comes on to face a Britain's Liam Broady. It funny we
:49:07. > :49:09.were talking at Queen's he hadn't played a British man in a tour match
:49:10. > :49:14.for ten years, now he has played three in ten days. Amazing, there
:49:15. > :49:19.aren't enough British players on the tour for him normally to play
:49:20. > :49:24.against but playing at home with the opportunities of wildcards, he has
:49:25. > :49:27.had a few local derbies this is a great opportunity for Broady, you
:49:28. > :49:31.know to be out on Centre Court, he has only won one match on the tour
:49:32. > :49:37.and that was last year, and ranked further down in the rankings it will
:49:38. > :49:42.be a tough task. It has similarities of Ward with Djokovic. I only see
:49:43. > :49:47.one winner but I hope Broady can give a good account of himself. You
:49:48. > :49:52.say he came through, he came through a five set match, but this is a
:49:53. > :49:56.different ball game, playing on a show cowering, to play on Centre
:49:57. > :50:02.Court. We talked about it in the last match, the first match on
:50:03. > :50:06.centre, it is not easy. The only guy he said he didn't want to play was
:50:07. > :50:10.Murray. But at least you get the, to know you are going to play like a
:50:11. > :50:14.Centre Court match. It has been tough for him. I think he has had
:50:15. > :50:19.some issues with the fed rankings I played with him as a junior, there
:50:20. > :50:24.was a lot of hope and expectations, now it seems like he is heading
:50:25. > :50:29.ranking wise in the wrong direction, she doesn't have much money or
:50:30. > :50:35.support and any real means so he is desperate. So he wanted to maybe get
:50:36. > :50:38.somewhat of a winnable match, get some cash in the bank so he could
:50:39. > :50:42.pay for the rest of the year, perhaps, he is going to have to
:50:43. > :50:49.figure out a way to have someone room with him if he is going to play
:50:50. > :50:55.Murray. When you start going the wrong Wray it is hard to turn it
:50:56. > :51:01.round. He made good strides on the futures then the challengers tour
:51:02. > :51:05.and made his highest rank was 158. When he build up some good matches,
:51:06. > :51:09.then he was moving in the right direction, but, you know, he has had
:51:10. > :51:13.trials and tribulations off the court, then you lose that momentum
:51:14. > :51:17.and his ranking has dropped back. This is not the ideal match to start
:51:18. > :51:21.building momentum but hopefully for the rest of the year he can take
:51:22. > :51:27.something away and get back higher in the rankings. He practise, he has
:51:28. > :51:30.been on the Davis Cup team, he practises with Andy, there is not
:51:31. > :51:33.the our you are looking down the other end and you are seeing a great
:51:34. > :51:39.champion. But because they know each other it is not quite as bad. It
:51:40. > :51:42.balances itself out. On the one hand what you say is true, he is playing
:51:43. > :51:48.in the Centre Court. So that tips it back to the oh my god, please don't
:51:49. > :51:52.like it be like James Ward, and James pull it together and did
:51:53. > :51:59.himself proud, to get to it a tie-break and play 6-4. This is
:52:00. > :52:05.Broady, he is, to me, this is me, I am not thinking about winning, he
:52:06. > :52:12.is, he wants to not get embarrassed. He will worry about the winning part
:52:13. > :52:19.if he can stay close for a while. You have been reminding us, he may
:52:20. > :52:28.be 233 places below Andy. We won't mention that match, it is beware the
:52:29. > :52:31.outsider. European Championship and England's
:52:32. > :52:37.embarrassment is Iceland's ecstasy. What a response from the underdogs.
:52:38. > :52:42.Our first round match up you have some guy, Andy Murray, it is an
:52:43. > :52:46.incredible way to start this Wimbledon. It is an amazing
:52:47. > :52:50.experience, an amazing opportunity. I have nothing to lose. I will go
:52:51. > :52:54.out there and hopefully on a big court. I will give it everything I
:52:55. > :52:58.have got and hopefully put on a good show. When you see a draw like that,
:52:59. > :53:02.does your heart sink a little bit when you get a player of Andy's
:53:03. > :53:07.calibre or do you think of this as a great opportunity? I see it as an
:53:08. > :53:11.opportunity. Like I said, there is no pressure, I usually perform well
:53:12. > :53:19.in front of big crowds and I hope it will be a big crowd again. Andy is
:53:20. > :53:23.number two, I am 230 something. I a about am looking forward to it. You
:53:24. > :53:26.were hitting earlier in the week with Milos Raonic and John McEnroe,
:53:27. > :53:30.do small things like that help you when you take on someone like Andy?
:53:31. > :53:34.Some of the players have an awe a, they have a star quality. Andy and
:53:35. > :53:37.mill loss have that, it is good to be round the big names to be
:53:38. > :53:41.comfortable with your surroundings. Do you have to go into this match
:53:42. > :53:45.with Andy and just hope for the best, see what happens and really
:53:46. > :53:51.take as much experience adds you can from it? I am going with a
:53:52. > :53:55.opportunistic mind-set. I am not going to set any boundary, I will
:53:56. > :53:59.work for every point and just, see where it gets me. For people who
:54:00. > :54:04.don't know your game, what would you say your strengths are as a player
:54:05. > :54:10.on grass? People will see come Tuesday. No secrets at all. No, I
:54:11. > :54:13.think I do everything pretty well. I mean obviously with Andy for
:54:14. > :54:18.instance he has strengths all over his gape. I wouldn't say I have
:54:19. > :54:23.strengths everywhere by wouldn't say I have real weaknesses anywhere, I
:54:24. > :54:26.move very well. When I am playing my best I can serve quite well, I
:54:27. > :54:34.return very well, so I think it could be a good match up.
:54:35. > :54:39.He certainly sounds very confident Liam Broady. He has talked the talk,
:54:40. > :54:43.can he walk the walk? I am with Tim, because John won't be walking, he
:54:44. > :54:47.has walked off. He won't be doing any more talking, he has to go to
:54:48. > :54:52.American televisioning and I got hit by an Andy Murray serve. This is, I
:54:53. > :54:55.mean Andy when you look at the last four tournaments he played he won
:54:56. > :55:01.two and made two final, he is really in form. He is. The whole clay court
:55:02. > :55:06.season he played very well. Although clay is a different surface, you are
:55:07. > :55:10.slipping and sliding and have to be patient, it is a great foundation,
:55:11. > :55:13.because you hit so many balls, you are in great shape physically and
:55:14. > :55:17.mentally you have had to be resilient, he has had such a good
:55:18. > :55:22.run of form, he took that into Queen, I felt it was going to be
:55:23. > :55:25.difficult for him, because he looks exhausted, right after Roland
:55:26. > :55:31.Garros, but with a couple of good wins he got through to the latter
:55:32. > :55:34.stages, he has Lendl back in his corner, to get another title with
:55:35. > :55:39.the ideal preparation coming into Wimbledon. The way he turned that
:55:40. > :55:44.final round, before we talk about Liam Broady, just that match against
:55:45. > :55:50.Raonic. He was almost 4-1 but he turned it round and played so well
:55:51. > :55:53.in the last set. He did and Raonic was so impressive for the first
:55:54. > :55:56.set-and-a-half. I don't know if that was anything to do with Mr McEnroe,
:55:57. > :56:00.he was aggressive, when you have a serve like that it is difficult to
:56:01. > :56:04.play against. Murray, when his back is against the wall, that is when he
:56:05. > :56:09.hoes the fighting spirit. He was able to turn that second set round
:56:10. > :56:13.and get back on level terms and his game got better, for me, this has
:56:14. > :56:17.been the best I have seen Murray coming into Wimbledon. He looks in a
:56:18. > :56:21.great place physically and mentally and I think we exacts a great run.
:56:22. > :56:28.What are you going to be looking for as far as Andy is concerned? What
:56:29. > :56:32.will give you the good signs today? Two words, proactive and reactive,
:56:33. > :56:37.when he is proactive and dictates play with his ground strokes that is
:56:38. > :56:42.when he is at his best. When he gets reactive he is forced a bit further
:56:43. > :56:47.back behind the baseline, the angles open up a bit and that is when it
:56:48. > :56:52.becomes more difficult. Look out for a high percentage of first serves to
:56:53. > :56:55.set up the point to dictate from the baseline, as I think everyone would
:56:56. > :57:00.say we expect him to come through fairly comfortably. The umpire has
:57:01. > :57:03.called time but you can't hurry a Murray can you, he will take his
:57:04. > :57:09.time and have a couple more serves, as far as Liam Broady is concerned,
:57:10. > :57:12.the left handed serve, it is not a great advantage against Andy,
:57:13. > :57:16.because he has such a great return, he has to attack him. He does. If he
:57:17. > :57:20.can. Yes, and this is a huge stage for him, he has never played on
:57:21. > :57:24.Centre Court. It is important in a big match, he has to take his time,
:57:25. > :57:29.not to rush and get a foot hold early on, concentrate on his first
:57:30. > :57:33.couple of service games so if he can take level on the score board, one
:57:34. > :57:38.or two or three all, and find his feet. There is no doubt it will be a
:57:39. > :57:43.difficult match for him. ? We certainly saw yesterday what Marcus
:57:44. > :57:45.Willis did on court 17, and let us hope that Liam Broady embraces the
:57:46. > :57:50.situation against Andy Murray. Tim is on his way to the commentary box
:57:51. > :57:57.to join Andrew Castle. All yours Andrew. Good afternoon to you and
:57:58. > :58:10.let us hope the rain stays away, we have a roof though.
:58:11. > :58:15.He has nerve lost at opening match at Wimbledon. This could be the
:58:16. > :58:18.first of seven of this year, Liam Broady we hope he plays well and
:58:19. > :59:05.does himself proud. -- nerve.
:59:06. > :59:12.235th in the world, he's been to United States, South Korea,
:59:13. > :59:38.Thailand, Shrewsbury. And now the man from Stockport
:59:39. > :59:39.playing against Andy Murray on Centre Court, delighted for Liam
:59:40. > :59:56.Broady, good man. World number two, first achieve the
:59:57. > :00:04.ranking of number two in 2009 after his first woman semifinal, Andy
:00:05. > :00:23.Murray. -- Wimbledon. He finished in two last year for the first time.
:00:24. > :00:37.Sue Barker were saying, Andy Murray coming in off a superb clay-court
:00:38. > :00:47.season. Ivan Lendl there, we are catching one of those moments. Hay
:00:48. > :00:52.fever sufferer. If Ivan Lendl said he was allergic to grass and that
:00:53. > :02:18.why he didn't make Wimbledon, and he made two finals.
:02:19. > :02:24.When Sue and I were talking before the match at this northern end of
:02:25. > :02:28.the court, there is a significant breeze coming down from behind
:02:29. > :03:02.Murray, down the court towards Broady.
:03:03. > :03:13.And a very shirt Liam Broady won't have known anything about the breeze
:03:14. > :03:17.-- and I am very sure. Andy Murray knows every inch of the Centre
:03:18. > :03:20.Court, dude advantage these big players. To have played in these
:03:21. > :04:04.arenas -- huge advantage. That sort of back and is not the
:04:05. > :04:09.sort of thing you see on challenges. When you have your mind in trouble,
:04:10. > :04:13.it is unlikely to get out of bed, this is a good work, he is moving
:04:14. > :05:03.well. Talked about how the start is
:05:04. > :05:04.important, Broady trying to establish himself and Murray trying
:05:05. > :05:26.to make life difficult. Oh, he is down. Oh, it is too bad.
:05:27. > :05:32.He was down on his knees on this one, it is all well staying nice to
:05:33. > :06:12.the surface, nicely done. No joy on the double hander.
:06:13. > :06:23.Eight minutes of play, Andy Murray in control at the moment in this
:06:24. > :06:27.first round match. He has always won his opening match at Wimbledon. The
:06:28. > :06:33.last time he lost at this double was back in 2008 Australian Open, and if
:06:34. > :06:39.you had to choose a surface, but he is good on all of them, he might
:06:40. > :06:45.choose grass as is never one. He has the best record since 1968, and he
:06:46. > :06:49.is ahead of Pete Sampras and Bjorn Borg. Unbelievable winning
:06:50. > :06:53.percentage. Six most grass court titles, he has added a fifth Queen's
:06:54. > :07:01.Club title to that, seven grass court titles in total. And this is
:07:02. > :07:07.Djokovic on grass, he has never lost a set. So, if he gets to the final,
:07:08. > :07:12.you can expect a straight sets win over Djokovic, we have already
:07:13. > :07:16.played the tournament. Not getting ahead of yourself? I can't see a
:07:17. > :07:19.final at this point which is different from Murray against
:07:20. > :07:25.Djokovic, and I think the whole drawer will agree with me, except
:07:26. > :07:31.Roger. They are the form horses, when you look at the Grand Slams.
:07:32. > :07:35.Djokovic is consistent, he's been amazing, but Murray is not far
:07:36. > :07:42.behind, and on the surface, as you say. I like Murray's chancers. I
:07:43. > :07:50.want Liam Bridcutt win this game, that is partial of me. -- Liam
:07:51. > :07:52.Broady to win this game. This could be torrid for Liam Broady. He
:07:53. > :08:40.deserves more. A big game for him. Well inside the top 100, Liam
:08:41. > :08:50.Broady's Big Sister, Naomi. I don't be fooled the younger one is.
:08:51. > :09:42.Catches win matches. Appalling work from a photographer, I believe. Andy
:09:43. > :09:50.Murray doesn't hit many of those of second serve. Oh, you have got to go
:09:51. > :10:25.with two hands, haven't you? ?30,000 worth of camera there.
:10:26. > :10:32.Line Romeu from Liam Broady, he is off and running. That is good news.
:10:33. > :10:44.-- line ball. That is mum of Broady, proud. Let's
:10:45. > :11:03.see if he can become part of this match.
:11:04. > :11:11.It is almost like Murray is hitting uphill, with the wind in his face,
:11:12. > :11:18.he has to use the width, hold the ball up. Is that the same each time?
:11:19. > :11:26.Is that the feeling players readily will expect? Not from this direction
:11:27. > :11:33.but it normally is going north, south, or south to north. It is not
:11:34. > :11:35.really a stadium where the wind swirls. If you are in New York, it
:11:36. > :12:31.can get quite swirly. Day two of the Championships,
:12:32. > :12:36.approaching 3pm, and Andy Murray is in contrast out on Henman Hill.
:12:37. > :12:42.Well, for the purposes of this commentary team, that is what it
:12:43. > :12:47.will remain. I was watching breakfast television this morning.
:12:48. > :12:52.Andy Murray has a quickfire 62nd, one would answer is, tea or copy,
:12:53. > :12:57.and he said neither. He was asked, Murray brothers or William sisters.
:12:58. > :13:03.He was asked grass or clay, he said grass. He was asked Henman Hill or
:13:04. > :13:08.Murray Mound. He said Henman Hill. You can get your planning permission
:13:09. > :13:13.for that bungalow you want to put in there. It will be bigger than a
:13:14. > :13:22.bungalow, I tell you that. Oh, is that right? He will concede that.
:13:23. > :13:26.Just an outrageous player. To reach all four major champion ship finals,
:13:27. > :13:30.just the tenth man in the history of the game, by reaching the recent
:13:31. > :13:35.French final. And putting Liam Broady down quite firmly. In the
:13:36. > :15:27.opening stages of this match. Started this year at number 301 in
:15:28. > :15:32.the world, it is hard to make a living at that level, up now to 235,
:15:33. > :15:42.but a lot of computer point coming off.
:15:43. > :15:48.Computing point coming off affect some players, especially when you
:15:49. > :15:57.are believed to hundred. You're not into the challenges definitely --
:15:58. > :16:00.beneath 200. He will take a big hit on the rankings. If he loses this
:16:01. > :16:38.match. The last match Broady played was at
:16:39. > :16:42.Wimbledon one year ago. He lost to Goffman. Dominic Cooper on the
:16:43. > :17:03.left-hand side. Merry that slice well to change not
:17:04. > :17:10.only the pace of the play, but the direction going low to Broady's
:17:11. > :18:34.forehand. A couple in the that one long.
:18:35. > :18:54.Big Sister, Naomi, lost in the first round of this tournament. It was a
:18:55. > :19:39.tough draw. 5-2 in the first set. Massive
:19:40. > :19:44.advantage for the big players, you were one of them, going out onto one
:19:45. > :19:50.of the sort of court, and there is no bigger court. Did you know how
:19:51. > :19:54.intimidating it was? Yes, definitely. It used to be even more
:19:55. > :19:59.intimidating when players had to bow to the Royal box, and I remember
:20:00. > :20:03.some of the foreign players playing on Centre Court for the first time,
:20:04. > :20:07.they were so petrified of making a mistake, they were more near this
:20:08. > :20:12.about that than the match. You talk about the giddy stages of a match,
:20:13. > :20:16.and in any sport it is about doing the basics well, and you look at
:20:17. > :20:21.some of Murray's numbers, 72% of first serves in play, 18 points on
:20:22. > :20:25.serve and only dropped two points, that's a great foundation to play
:20:26. > :20:30.on. When you have those solid returns it gives you that platform
:20:31. > :20:38.to be aggressive, look to get the breaks. He will be delighted with
:20:39. > :20:47.the way things have started. That is Chris Robshaw the, with Camilla, his
:20:48. > :20:54.wife. Wasn't he in the England team that just beat Australia? He had
:20:55. > :21:01.direct back to get to Wimbledon. 3-0, we beat Australia, good, he won
:21:02. > :21:04.something. There are normally Aussies around when we lose, now
:21:05. > :21:29.we're winning, we can't find any. He has missed the area one, the
:21:30. > :21:43.defence was excellent. It was such a good shot from Murray
:21:44. > :21:48.down the line, and that is one Lendl is a big honour, when Murray is
:21:49. > :21:49.struggling, he pulls off, his weight goes in the wrong direction, he
:21:50. > :22:13.stayed through the wall. The news came out the Sunday before
:22:14. > :22:17.Queen's Club that Andy Murray would be rejoining a man with whom he
:22:18. > :22:21.enjoyed so much success, 11 grand slam finals Lendl lost, so much in
:22:22. > :22:46.common with his charge. And Lendl was the first machine out
:22:47. > :22:50.there, the one who never looked like he was a superbly gifted athlete,
:22:51. > :23:00.you knew he chiselled himself with work. Andy Murray is like that. But
:23:01. > :23:07.you would never describe him as without a get, he is a superb player
:23:08. > :23:13.now. Quite capable of playing his best tennis of his career. Nice idea
:23:14. > :23:17.from Liam Broady to try and change things up, but 95 mph not going to
:23:18. > :23:44.cut it against Murray's return. That is away, and the set has gone
:23:45. > :23:55.weathered, 25 minutes for Murray, 6-2. So, let's discuss a theory, the
:23:56. > :24:01.possibility you could not cede the players ranked between 17 and 32.
:24:02. > :24:06.And that way, we can have more close matches in the first set of all
:24:07. > :24:14.Grand Slams. The first round? And the way it used to be, I'm not sure
:24:15. > :24:18.when it went from 16 to 32 seats, but for me, given the choice, I
:24:19. > :24:27.would go to 16 seed, when you put those players ranked 17 to 32, even
:24:28. > :24:33.down list and Ivo Karlovic, you throw those as dangerous floaters
:24:34. > :24:40.into the draw. I can't remember which year either, I should know
:24:41. > :24:45.that. We do have a programme here, which we will discuss. You see an
:24:46. > :24:50.awful lot of one-sided matches, players who are not used to playing
:24:51. > :24:57.in the big arenas. And the top players, like the 52 seeds, because
:24:58. > :25:03.it gives them protection. Looking at those first stats from Murray, 92%
:25:04. > :25:09.points won, 80% on the second serve, that is the foundation he likes,
:25:10. > :25:17.very few unforced errors. Not giving the new boy out on Centre Court to
:25:18. > :25:21.many freebies. I have to be honest, the writing in the programme, even
:25:22. > :25:31.with a magnification, I can't see the numbers by the players. You
:25:32. > :25:37.reflect on some of the higher seeds, Sam Querrey, dangerous, big serve,
:25:38. > :25:41.28 in the world, Kevin Anderson, to Djokovic 25 set last year. Not a lot
:25:42. > :25:52.of people would like to see him next to their name in the draw.
:25:53. > :26:01.To finish the argument, the top seeds, top players, 17 to 32 in
:26:02. > :26:02.particular, they will say, my ranking deserves a protected place
:26:03. > :26:31.in the draw. Good second serve return from
:26:32. > :26:40.Broady, and he's had half an hour out here to find his feet. When he
:26:41. > :27:08.gets, he looks at second serve, he needs to be aggressive.
:27:09. > :27:14.But with Murray serving at 73% first serves, he's not getting many first
:27:15. > :27:35.looks at the second serve. In fact, Andy Murray has any lost
:27:36. > :27:42.four points on serve so far, one behind the first serve, and two
:27:43. > :27:48.behind a second. We're not seeing a repeat of the fairly lax Murray
:27:49. > :27:49.performance we saw at the beginning of the French Open when he was two
:27:50. > :28:21.sets down against Ruddock said the Starting a new step, Broady has two
:28:22. > :28:23.dig his heels in and make a solid first serve, he can't afford to give
:28:24. > :28:55.cheap point to Murray. How was that won on the baseline, is
:28:56. > :29:16.what Murray is saying question what it did not stop the rally.
:29:17. > :29:48.Nagin Rooney coaching Liam Broady -- Nathan. A player himself.
:29:49. > :30:05.Nigel Sears on the left-hand side, watching his son-in-law. Leon Smith,
:30:06. > :30:17.on the right, he won an award at the National tennis awards recently. Dip
:30:18. > :30:24.down at the last second, it was a muffled call of out. The call came
:30:25. > :30:31.at exactly the same time as Broady was playing the shot, it was
:30:32. > :30:35.interpreted he was playing the shot's outcome, hence they play a
:30:36. > :30:41.let. If the call comes after Broady has played the shot, he loses the
:30:42. > :30:55.point. A bit of a judgment call that.
:30:56. > :31:06.This looks like one-way traffic entirely here. As a player on court,
:31:07. > :31:10.if you do not maintain your momentum, you lose your course. He
:31:11. > :31:25.wants to keep the momentum, he does not have the second set yet, he
:31:26. > :31:28.wants to keep it coming. APPLAUSE Murray will feel a little bit
:31:29. > :32:10.annoyed that the call came against him in that game.
:32:11. > :32:22.If Murray gets the double break in the first set, it means he conserve
:32:23. > :32:24.first in the second set. -- he can serve. Broady will always feel like
:32:25. > :32:57.he is playing catch up. APPLAUSE Not only are you playing catch up,
:32:58. > :33:01.when your opponent is playing this well, you feel like they are rolling
:33:02. > :33:14.through their service games in 80, 90 seconds.
:33:15. > :33:21.He still only lost three points on his serve, Andy Murray. Let me tell
:33:22. > :33:27.you about Liam Broady, I don't think he will be in the tournament for
:33:28. > :33:32.much longer in the singles. He cut ties with the LTA to make peace with
:33:33. > :33:38.his dad Simon, his sister Naomi had her funding cut back in 2007. She
:33:39. > :33:44.went out on a night out, there was a couple of pictures taken and the LTA
:33:45. > :33:49.did not like the picture, myself I thought they were quite harsh, I do
:33:50. > :33:54.not know the whole story. The funding was cut. The dad Simon, a
:33:55. > :33:59.property developer, he was annoyed about the whole thing. Liam decided
:34:00. > :34:04.to take LTA funding back in 2012 and his dad and him fell out for some
:34:05. > :34:09.time. I think they are trying to patch that up. These things get so
:34:10. > :34:15.personal, so quick and it is really difficult. It has caused a rift. I
:34:16. > :34:23.am glad he is out there and playing hard and playing well and he has
:34:24. > :34:29.this opportunity. It is tough on mum Shirley, the brother Callum and
:34:30. > :34:36.everybody. Hopefully that situation is improving. He won his first
:34:37. > :35:19.service game in the second set which will make the team feel better.
:35:20. > :35:39.The longest rally of the match, 21 strokes and with the wind behind,
:35:40. > :35:44.Broady is able to stay in the rally, it gives them a bit more weight of
:35:45. > :36:00.shot. Murray not able to hit through the court.
:36:01. > :36:11.APPLAUSE Broady able to stay in the rally,
:36:12. > :36:17.but he must not let the ball drop to Central, that is where Murray can be
:36:18. > :36:45.aggressive, put the ball forward and put it away. -- too central.
:36:46. > :36:53.He has had a few matches coming in here Liam Broady, nothing like
:36:54. > :36:56.Centre Court. The first round in Manchester, Luke Southall, the
:36:57. > :37:07.Australian. -- Saville. He almost beat Dan Evans in
:37:08. > :37:21.Nottingham. That match against Evans, the only
:37:22. > :38:30.tour match of 2016. Some quite brutal draws for the
:38:31. > :38:34.British players. James Ward against Novak Djokovic, the first match on
:38:35. > :39:05.this court. Djokovic is the defending champion.
:39:06. > :39:14.Marcus Willis, what a story that is. Marcus Willis! One of the lads! A
:39:15. > :39:27.seventh victory and an excellent win yesterday. APPLAUSE
:39:28. > :39:35.Do you think you started off in pre-qualifiers, here I am 30 matches
:39:36. > :39:45.away from the title? Or I might play Federer in a few weeks' time?
:39:46. > :39:52.My seventh match will be main draw and my eighth will be against Roger
:39:53. > :39:54.Federer! Roger is going to enjoy that and I think Marcus Willis is as
:39:55. > :40:20.well, I do hope so. APPLAUSE One of the most difficult draws
:40:21. > :40:27.actually was Kyle Edmonds, he was against Marino, he plays better on
:40:28. > :40:38.grass than he does on any other service. He is up to 68th in the
:40:39. > :40:45.world. Alexander Ward? Did you mention him? A very tough draw.
:40:46. > :40:49.Wildcards, much lower ranks, they are coming into the best tournament
:40:50. > :40:54.in the world, they will be playing better players, but it is still a
:40:55. > :40:58.great opportunity. Hopefully they learn from the experiences, they
:40:59. > :41:04.take away surprise money that they can invest in their game and develop
:41:05. > :41:10.over the next 12 months and be a direct affect on their rankings next
:41:11. > :41:15.year. There is a lovely, little waterfall over there if we pop over
:41:16. > :41:20.to Henman Hill. The grass is not quite as soft as it was. Hopefully
:41:21. > :41:24.people are not getting to wet as they perch on the hill. You should
:41:25. > :41:30.have seen what it was like on Thursday and Friday. Wednesday
:41:31. > :41:36.night, the most recorded rainfall in an evening was 25 millimetres and
:41:37. > :41:45.they had 60. It was a bit messy, Thursday morning. So was my seller.
:41:46. > :43:23.-- cellar. I like the attitude from Liam Broady
:43:24. > :43:27.as he tries to get involved in one of these sets. It is all one-way
:43:28. > :43:44.traffic at the moment. Can he makes headway on the Andy Murray serve?
:43:45. > :44:52.Here is a little bit of something for the Broady finally. -- Liam
:44:53. > :45:24.Broady finally. A little excited. A great return.
:45:25. > :45:30.And it is the right shot, when he gets the opportunity to step in and
:45:31. > :45:34.plant that left foot. He has the 0-30 point, he has to go for it, he
:45:35. > :45:43.is not just going to out rally Murray.
:45:44. > :46:03.APPLAUSE The ball was called in. Broady using
:46:04. > :46:05.Hawk-Eye. He had to check with the amp I about how many challenges he
:46:06. > :46:19.had and when they were renewed. -- he had to check with the umpire.
:46:20. > :46:56.Two challenges remaining. Almost pulled the left shoulder away
:46:57. > :47:18.a little bit early. Smothered it in the net.
:47:19. > :47:38.Some proper defence here, isn't it? Again a nice idea to move forward,
:47:39. > :47:43.but when you come in you have to get closer than the service line. He was
:47:44. > :47:52.probably a foot high into the service line there, roadie. -- a
:47:53. > :48:03.foot behind the service line there, Broady.
:48:04. > :48:12.Andy Murray, we talk about this dominance on serve, 0-30, just a
:48:13. > :48:17.moment ago, Liam Broady unable to take advantage. Taking a look at how
:48:18. > :48:20.close he is going to the lines and where he is actually serving, it
:48:21. > :48:26.could be an advantage if people could have access to this with their
:48:27. > :48:32.mobile devices. If Liam Broady had won under a towel and had a look at
:48:33. > :48:37.the Wi-Fi. Andy Murray is not going into the body too much and that is a
:48:38. > :48:42.reflection of Broady's core position. When he is serving he goes
:48:43. > :48:46.quite far back, if he is going into the body, Broady has a chance to
:48:47. > :48:51.step out of the way and have a free swing. When you are further back,
:48:52. > :49:09.that opens up the angles, Murray looking to swing the ball out wide
:49:10. > :49:14.on the deuce box. That dress code is not just the Invision on your own
:49:15. > :49:19.programme, he carries it through to his own life. A superb bowtie. You
:49:20. > :49:50.do not want to come underdressed here.
:49:51. > :49:58.He does not want to look at the scoreboard now, either for the score
:49:59. > :50:33.all the time. He is still nine minutes short of the hour.
:50:34. > :52:19.Another 60 of those and I reckon Broady can win this match. LAUGHTER
:52:20. > :52:37.New tennis balls. Probably favours the server.
:52:38. > :52:49.APPLAUSE We saw Liam Broady chasing out of
:52:50. > :52:54.our shop there absolutely full pelt with about only five or six feet
:52:55. > :52:57.left before he starts hitting people. I wonder where he went? He
:52:58. > :53:28.is back. The first to double-faulted, 55
:53:29. > :53:56.minutes played. -- the first double fault.
:53:57. > :54:09.APPLAUSE The physical work that Andy Murray
:54:10. > :54:14.has done, that was a good spring. Also the dexterity. When he is up at
:54:15. > :54:19.the net, he has such good hands, he has a good feel for follies, I would
:54:20. > :54:41.like to see him finish more points up at the net. -- volleys.
:54:42. > :54:52.Good to see dad Willie up there watching Andy Murray as well. Just
:54:53. > :54:56.focusing on Liam Broady for a second, he won to slam doubles
:54:57. > :55:11.titles, Wimbledon and the Australian Open in 2010. -- two. Liam finds
:55:12. > :55:16.himself between 200 and 300 in the world. It looks as though it will
:55:17. > :55:21.stay that way. He is 22 years of age, he works hard, but it does not
:55:22. > :55:26.look like he has the game to be a top 50 player. Why not? Why is that
:55:27. > :55:30.transition so difficult for so many British players? I am not sure there
:55:31. > :55:34.is this massive transition people talk about. We have players that
:55:35. > :55:42.have good results in the junior game, but they do not go on to
:55:43. > :55:45.become professional players because they do not have a game that is
:55:46. > :55:49.developing for the longer term. You look at Liam's game, he is competing
:55:50. > :55:52.hard and doing all of the right things, but there are aspects of his
:55:53. > :55:57.game that are not good enough at this stage. It seems like he has
:55:58. > :56:02.been around for awhile, but he is only 22, how will he develop more
:56:03. > :56:07.weight of shot, get more aggressive at the baseline, play closer to the
:56:08. > :56:11.baseline. For me this is a journey. Andy Murray won the singles in the
:56:12. > :56:19.juniors, but his game was developing. There was a long-time
:56:20. > :56:21.ambition not just to be a good junior but to break to the
:56:22. > :56:25.satellites, the challenges and get into the tour and win Grand Slams.
:56:26. > :56:28.The British game is too interested in the junior results, we need to
:56:29. > :56:52.look at the foundation that will work in the professional game.
:56:53. > :56:58.And one further point to finish off the transition between juniors and
:56:59. > :57:03.seniors which American university does so well, you play so many
:57:04. > :57:06.matches the whole time, less reliance on being a good practice
:57:07. > :57:17.player, better reliance on being a good match player. APPLAUSE
:57:18. > :57:22.And not a lot of nations can finance junior players playing. There are a
:57:23. > :57:23.lot of people who do not play junior tennis at all and then arrived
:57:24. > :58:29.afterwards. So, there we are. Got Broady coming to the net there
:58:30. > :58:33.and I was just reflecting on Murray's net approaches in this
:58:34. > :58:38.match, he has been to the net ten times and he has won nine of those.
:58:39. > :58:45.Admittedly this is not Djokovic at the other end, but to be successful
:58:46. > :58:49.against Djokovic, he needs to approached the net more often to
:58:50. > :58:53.become more confident against more aggressive players. -- to approach
:58:54. > :01:04.the net. Andy Murray talking at Queen's Club
:01:05. > :01:09.about how his performance numbers are so highly measured these days.
:01:10. > :01:12.When he trains, on all the equipment he uses, the numbers now are better
:01:13. > :01:16.than they have ever been. Physically, while he has to
:01:17. > :01:20.understand his body and his recovery, and I'm sure he does now,
:01:21. > :01:25.he looks every bit as good as he ever has. He is certainly moving as
:01:26. > :01:30.well as he ever has and he is understanding his game as well as he
:01:31. > :01:33.ever has. He is. I remember when Murray made the decision to have
:01:34. > :01:39.back surgery, I'm sure a lot of people had doubts about how he would
:01:40. > :01:48.recover from that. Introducing yoga and Pilates to his regime.
:01:49. > :02:23.I don't think there are many better athletes out there.
:02:24. > :03:02.That was in 2013 when he had the back surgery.
:03:03. > :03:17.He's working his way through his game nicely here.
:03:18. > :03:28.UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the call. The ball was called out. He
:03:29. > :03:35.has given it to Murray. Broady should fight this one.
:03:36. > :04:25.I think the five set matches in the early rounds in Paris affected
:04:26. > :05:53.Murray. Strangely, a first British opponent,
:05:54. > :06:39.at one of the sport's major championships for Andy Murray, ever.
:06:40. > :06:46.He hit the ball very nicely, very cleanly, Liam Broady. Not enough
:06:47. > :06:50.weight or muscle on the ball at times. Certainly, the server will
:06:51. > :06:56.have to improve if he wants to get into the top 100, but he has seen
:06:57. > :07:00.Dan Evans do it. Kyle Edmund continues his improvement as well
:07:01. > :07:04.and James Ward. Some good signs in British tennis. It is all about
:07:05. > :07:10.participation now and getting more players playing. He is a very lively
:07:11. > :07:14.chap, Liam Broady. His beard has his own Twitter account. I know you
:07:15. > :07:21.don't know any of this nonsense, Tim. Not yet. I said there is as
:07:22. > :07:27.much chance of you getting a Twitter account as doing Strictly. Or
:07:28. > :07:34.growing a beard! It would take me a while, I think! I think I will give
:07:35. > :07:39.Twitter a miss for the moment. I have managed to avoid Strictly as
:07:40. > :07:48.well. After seeing your two left feet. At least I had a go. You are
:07:49. > :07:55.one of those end of a disco in the sixth form sort of guys, right? The
:07:56. > :07:57.only time you ever set foot. I get plenty of advice from my three
:07:58. > :08:20.daughters to stay off the dance floor.
:08:21. > :08:24.I clenched fist right over to the Chelsea Pensioners there. They loved
:08:25. > :08:31.it. Broady might not go on to win but he
:08:32. > :09:43.has competed well for every point. A British crowd always like an
:09:44. > :10:08.underdog. The umpire there advising Broady
:10:09. > :11:52.that you have to challenge the call in a timely manner.
:11:53. > :13:13.Andy Murray will be defending his Olympic title in Rio this summer.
:13:14. > :13:17.He did all the hard work and got the shot he finally wanted with Murray
:13:18. > :13:41.out of position. That double fault was the
:13:42. > :15:47.consequence of the missed volley. UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the
:15:48. > :15:53.call at the left baseline. It is an interesting one because Murray was
:15:54. > :16:03.unsure if Broady's shot was long. Then he challenged the call.
:16:04. > :17:13.UMPIRE: It stands. Advantage, Broady.
:17:14. > :17:19.With the best will in the world, there is no chance Liam Broady can
:17:20. > :17:21.stay at the back of the court and beat Andy Murray. Some impressive
:17:22. > :17:39.hitting. It is recognising when he can move
:17:40. > :17:41.up the court a bit more. Murray soaking up the pressure. Another
:17:42. > :18:56.highlight from Broady. Just one hour and 20 minutes played.
:18:57. > :19:00.From the back of the court, he would have known going out there, and so
:19:01. > :19:09.would the team that he works with, if you train from the back of the
:19:10. > :19:14.court, against the best or second best, you're not going to win. I'm
:19:15. > :19:18.surprised we have not seen a little more variation, particularly on the
:19:19. > :19:23.backhand side, some drop shots. Anything to change the view. It is.
:19:24. > :19:28.From a tactical point of view, with Broady down two sets and they break,
:19:29. > :19:34.you are thinking this game plan, this strategy is not working
:19:35. > :19:37.particularly well. Is there any other variation he can bring to the
:19:38. > :19:41.table? The problem is, not just with Broady but a lot of players, there
:19:42. > :19:45.is not really a plan B. They serve to start the point and then they
:19:46. > :19:50.trade these baseline rallies. They do not have the dexterity and
:19:51. > :19:57.technique to come forward and volley. Therefore, the Plan B is to
:19:58. > :20:39.do plan a bit better. -- plan a bit better.
:20:40. > :20:59.That was the forehand down the line that gave Broady the opportunity to
:21:00. > :21:05.step into the court and push Murray a bit further back. That is a good
:21:06. > :21:18.strike, recognises the opportunity, moves forward, plays the drop shot.
:21:19. > :21:26.UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the call. The ball was called out. What
:21:27. > :21:27.Murray just having a look at the ball to see if there was any chalk
:21:28. > :23:05.on it. A little loss of concentration.
:23:06. > :23:34.Plenty of damnation from Liam Broady.
:23:35. > :24:05.Two serves out wide since you said he should move in.
:24:06. > :24:17.Momentary hesitation going to the forehand side.
:24:18. > :24:36.Again. Have you played this game before?
:24:37. > :24:47.When you go back to matchplay, you gain awareness and that is when you
:24:48. > :25:44.can think under pressure. A challenge to confirm that.
:25:45. > :25:50.That was the demonstration of soft hands from Andy Murray. The pass on
:25:51. > :25:56.the backhand side was strong from Broady. He had to take the pace off
:25:57. > :27:39.and that was not easy. Beautifully done.
:27:40. > :30:00.We used to call that he and. -- keying off.
:30:01. > :30:08.Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic giving Andy Murray three clay-court
:30:09. > :30:19.defeats. More to come for us with Andy Murray
:30:20. > :30:26.after Wimbledon. The Davis Cup coverage will be in Serbia. Liam
:30:27. > :30:34.Broady doing a good job of hanging in there. It does seem inevitable
:30:35. > :30:40.that he will lose the match to Andy Murray. Were you surprised when Ivan
:30:41. > :30:47.Lendl was brought back on board? I was a little surprised. Andy and
:30:48. > :30:52.Ivan kept in touch over the couple of years they were apart and I felt
:30:53. > :30:57.that Ivan Lendl was the only person that Murray would have really looked
:30:58. > :31:00.to have brought back into the equation. Jayme Doll Bardot did a
:31:01. > :31:02.very good job in the past three or four months, someone I was at school
:31:03. > :31:12.with. -- Jamie Delgado. He will be the
:31:13. > :32:13.continuity. Mr Murray has asked to check the
:32:14. > :32:19.call. The ball was called as out. It still amazes me how much the ball is
:32:20. > :32:25.checked to see if it lands on the line. He went to play the second
:32:26. > :32:41.shot of the rally, the ball did not come onto him, he stumbled.
:32:42. > :33:06.Mr Murray has no challenges remaining.
:33:07. > :34:03.APPLAUSE UMPIRE: New balls, please.
:34:04. > :34:11.Great to see him here at Wimbledon. Baby Sophia is somewhere around,
:34:12. > :34:19.probably at home, she is not that far away. What an important year for
:34:20. > :34:30.them. New parents. Baby Sophia just over four months old now. It is a
:34:31. > :34:33.rare time at home for Andy Murray. One game away from getting into the
:34:34. > :34:48.second round. It is a malevolent appearance for
:34:49. > :35:27.Andy Murray. -- 11th appearance. Broady coming back from two sets
:35:28. > :35:32.down in Australia last year. It seems a bit unlikely that he will be
:35:33. > :35:55.able to pick himself up and win this one.
:35:56. > :37:56.A couple of break points in this set. 12 months on from that mauling
:37:57. > :38:01.from Roger Federer, one of the greatest servers you will ever see,
:38:02. > :38:07.that was his last match at on Centre Court. Andy Murray looks very
:38:08. > :38:20.comfortable as you would expect. A nice loosener so far, still has not
:38:21. > :38:24.won it yet. STUDIO: Andy Murray will come out to serve for the match, the
:38:25. > :38:33.British number one on Centre Court. Over on Court Number One, Konta, a
:38:34. > :38:37.set point against Puig on Court Number One, she has talked about the
:38:38. > :38:42.pressure of the expectation. Not feeling the pressure at all as she
:38:43. > :38:52.sailed through that 6-1. We thought it would be a difficult opponent,
:38:53. > :38:58.Puig. Konta and Great Britain going well on Court Number One. Here is
:38:59. > :39:06.Andy Murray serving to the match. -- for the match.
:39:07. > :40:32.CHEERING APPLAUSE
:40:33. > :40:43.ANDREW CASTLE: He has certainly settled into this match, just as
:40:44. > :40:46.James Ward did yesterday. Broady trying to get this first break of
:40:47. > :41:02.serve, this would be a handy time for it. APPLAUSE
:41:03. > :41:21.APPLAUSE The ball was called in. SLOW
:41:22. > :41:29.CLAPPING It did not look that far in! GROANS
:41:30. > :42:00.FROM CROWD CHEERING
:42:01. > :42:03.Job done for Andy Murray. Liam Broady obviously delighted to share
:42:04. > :42:15.the court with this champion player. CHEERING
:42:16. > :42:32.And it is a welcome back to S W 19 for Andy Murray, straight sets.
:42:33. > :42:39.Some good tennis from Liam Bridcutt out there, certainly intimidated to
:42:40. > :42:48.start with, settle down quite nicely. -- Liam Broady. Certainly an
:42:49. > :42:54.intimidating experience, but he has nothing to be embarrassed about. He
:42:55. > :43:03.will pick up a very sizeable cheque. Andy Murray advances predict the
:43:04. > :43:13.blue. JEERING -- Murray advances. CHEERING
:43:14. > :43:21.Murray may well have seven matches at the Championships this year. Once
:43:22. > :43:27.again he has been in great form. See, I told you they were getting
:43:28. > :43:35.on. They like him and his beard. LAUGHTER
:43:36. > :43:42.He has enjoyed his experience. Murray in great form, no particular
:43:43. > :43:47.drama for him. TIM HENMAN: Know, and it was an opportunity for Murray to
:43:48. > :43:53.find his feet. I do not think we should forget how professional
:43:54. > :43:57.Murray was in his performance. -- no. He was aggressive in the
:43:58. > :44:02.baseline and he will be delighted to move through to the second round.
:44:03. > :44:10.Just through those doors, you go back in and you have a bit of a walk
:44:11. > :44:17.around. I have to say, it is extremely dark here on Centre Court
:44:18. > :44:22.and the court covers have moved on in here, this may be the last tennis
:44:23. > :44:27.we see for a while. They did predict some rain on the Centre Court. The
:44:28. > :44:36.roof may close, we may see our first indoor action. We will look at the
:44:37. > :44:42.way he put in his finishes touches to this match. After the French Open
:44:43. > :44:46.final he took five days off. He had a bit of a cold. He came in here
:44:47. > :44:51.full of training and that fifth title at Queen's Club as well. It
:44:52. > :45:06.must've been nice to share the court with senior colleague. So, the cover
:45:07. > :45:12.comes across for the first time at Centre Court. The clouds are
:45:13. > :45:17.certainly heavy and leaden, a feature of our summer so far, we
:45:18. > :45:24.have not really had it. The week before Queen's there were a few
:45:25. > :45:29.sunny days. The groundsman and his team keeping an eye on the weather
:45:30. > :45:34.forecast. They are thinking about whether to inflate this cover or
:45:35. > :45:46.not, we will see. Let's see if it works this year, Tim. It looks like
:45:47. > :46:08.they need to put a couple of 50 peas in -- 50 ps in. LAUGHTER
:46:09. > :46:12.The next match could be indoors. Quite a straightforward straight
:46:13. > :46:17.sets victory, how would you rate your performance? I served pretty
:46:18. > :46:21.well. Offensive Lee I thought I did some good stuff. Maybe defensively I
:46:22. > :46:28.could have done a bit better. -- on the offensive. Coming out it was
:46:29. > :46:34.pretty breezy at the beginning. We have never played each other before,
:46:35. > :46:42.we practice a lot. It is not easy playing someone you know. It is an
:46:43. > :46:46.interesting dynamic, rated 235 in the world, but a young player you
:46:47. > :46:51.would normally be supporting, is there no room to sentimentality at
:46:52. > :46:57.this level? Obviously, we start the match and we are just trying to win.
:46:58. > :47:03.It does not make it any easier. You just want to go out and try to play
:47:04. > :47:07.a good match. Lee plays better as the match went on, he may be did not
:47:08. > :47:11.start as well as he could have done, but as the match got on he was
:47:12. > :47:17.better and he fought right the way through today. He played some good
:47:18. > :47:21.stuff. Yes, I think it was good experience for him. An interesting
:47:22. > :47:27.atmosphere out on Centre Court. It has been waiting for a long time to
:47:28. > :47:30.see two British players. Was it a interesting experience to have the
:47:31. > :47:34.crowd not just cheering for you? It was definitely different, the crowd
:47:35. > :47:40.is always very fair here anyway. They always get behind both players.
:47:41. > :47:44.Obviously, they are pretty knowledgeable about the game. They
:47:45. > :47:50.know what a good shot is and what isn't, today was the same. Liam got
:47:51. > :47:56.good support and I think when he left the court as well he got a nice
:47:57. > :48:01.ovation as well. I am sure he will have enjoyed that. Congratulations
:48:02. > :48:07.to you, thank you, Andy. Well done, Andy. He does so much to help the
:48:08. > :48:11.British players on tour. He really does support them, he watches their
:48:12. > :48:15.results all around the world and they remain good friends and Davis
:48:16. > :48:19.Cup team-mate he was with Liam Broady. Andy will certainly be happy
:48:20. > :48:23.when he sees what the weather is looking like out there. It looks as
:48:24. > :48:30.though the rain is imminent and Wimbledon is wisely closing the roof
:48:31. > :48:34.and rain is on its way. I am hearing from people in west London that it
:48:35. > :48:39.is pouring there. We certainly will be getting some rain in the next few
:48:40. > :48:45.minutes. Let's get a brief reaction from Tim and Andy in the commentary
:48:46. > :48:50.box. I have my reliable app, Andy and it says rain in a few minutes
:48:51. > :48:52.and that is not good news, but great news we have a roof. ?2 39 your
:48:53. > :49:12.particular app. LAUGHTER -- ?2.39. It looks like an indoor
:49:13. > :49:18.tournament today. Andy will be happy to get that one finished. He can now
:49:19. > :49:25.relax, go home, put his feet up. Have a chat with Ivan. Yes, he
:49:26. > :49:30.played a very solid game. Sometimes it is not so straightforward. It
:49:31. > :49:35.looked like he was timing the ball well, striking the winners and yes,
:49:36. > :49:39.he will be even more pleased as you say. The rain looks like it is
:49:40. > :49:43.coming. He has finished his match and he is able to get his day off
:49:44. > :49:48.tomorrow and when you reflect on Roland Garros when he had those
:49:49. > :49:53.matches in the early stages, he had to play day after day after day. If
:49:54. > :49:56.you go deep into the tournament it does not give you so much time to
:49:57. > :50:03.recover and make sure your batteries are charged for the latter stages.
:50:04. > :50:07.Andy, he asserted his authority on that match right from the word go.
:50:08. > :50:12.It must be nice to come out with experience and to play someone more
:50:13. > :50:16.junior to yourself, you know they will be nervous, they are sharing
:50:17. > :50:20.the court with a legend. He stamped his authority on its like Djokovic
:50:21. > :50:24.did with James Ward. The greatest thing we have in this game in this
:50:25. > :50:29.country is Andy Murray as an example to these guys. Not only does he
:50:30. > :50:33.support them and is happy to do so, but he demonstrates the level of
:50:34. > :50:40.professionalism you require. No stone unturned to gain perfection.
:50:41. > :50:43.He has brought Ivan Lendl back on board, that will not always be
:50:44. > :50:48.comfortable to hear things he may not want to hear, but Andy Murray
:50:49. > :50:54.leading by example. There are only two men on his mind, Roger and Novak
:50:55. > :50:57.Djokovic. They are taking the covers off Centre Court, but outside the
:50:58. > :51:02.brollies have gone up and the rain is coming down with a vengeance.
:51:03. > :51:06.Everyone is scurrying for cover at the moment and trying to get the
:51:07. > :51:13.covers on the outside courts. Really not looking very good and that will
:51:14. > :51:17.affect Konta who is out on Court Number One at the moment although
:51:18. > :51:19.she is a set up and she... It will all be struggling as everyone runs
:51:20. > :51:28.for cover and we hear the brain could be here for quite a few hours.
:51:29. > :51:32.-- rain. That will be a bit of a headache for the tournament referee
:51:33. > :51:38.and the players. They really do want to get so many of these first-round
:51:39. > :51:43.matches completed because that halves the tournament, 128 players
:51:44. > :51:47.coming to 64. Not looking too good at their, grey skies all around
:51:48. > :51:51.Wimbledon, but look at that, beautiful, the roof is on and we are
:51:52. > :51:55.guaranteed play. The players for the next match will be making their way
:51:56. > :52:03.down to the court in the next few minutes. Your app doesn't put Carol
:52:04. > :52:09.Kirkwood out of a job? Your app is not as nice as Carol Kirkwood! I
:52:10. > :52:15.would always listen to Carol above my app, that is for sure. Andy
:52:16. > :52:19.Murray, he helps the British players, he follows their results
:52:20. > :52:23.around the world. When you see someone who is world class and you
:52:24. > :52:29.work alongside them, see their work ethic and how much time they put in,
:52:30. > :52:34.it rubs off. I think he is leading from the front. Andy has had a huge
:52:35. > :52:38.influence on Kyle Edmund, he has had him training out in Miami when they
:52:39. > :52:42.are there for the off-season in December. Sometimes we struggling
:52:43. > :52:45.British tennis because we have not had the strength and depth and have
:52:46. > :52:50.not had the standard set across the board whether talking about the
:52:51. > :52:54.juniors at 12, 14, 16 or the professional players at the very
:52:55. > :53:02.top. That is where Andy has been invaluable, it is easy to talk about
:53:03. > :53:04.the winds he has in Davis Cup, but the professionalism, that commitment
:53:05. > :53:10.and dedication that unique to compete at any level in world
:53:11. > :53:14.tennis, he has that. -- the wins. Konta has been a great role model.
:53:15. > :53:21.She is now in the top 20. Yes you need some tight and you need some
:53:22. > :53:31.game, but it is hard work and commitment you need to commit to. --
:53:32. > :53:35.some time. I hear the new commentators are trying to get into
:53:36. > :53:42.the box and you are not letting them in. We are warm and we are dry and
:53:43. > :53:51.we have a kettle. We are all right. LAUGHTER
:53:52. > :53:55.Kuznetsova is a two-time grand slam champion, she is coming up soon. The
:53:56. > :53:58.best in the business was on Centre Court first up, Serena Williams, the
:53:59. > :54:11.defending champion, she was coming up against Sadikovic. That is Serena
:54:12. > :54:17.Williams's mother. She was very proudly watching her daughter put in
:54:18. > :54:23.a straight sets victory. Great memories for Sadikovic, she almost
:54:24. > :54:27.gave up the game and she came back, but awarded with a match on Centre
:54:28. > :54:35.Court. She played very well. Serena goes through in straight sets. She
:54:36. > :54:41.is looking for her next grand slam title to equal Stephanie's record.
:54:42. > :54:57.After the match she spoke to Clare Balding. -- Steffi Graf's record.
:54:58. > :55:04.What did John mother think about being in the Royal box? -- your
:55:05. > :55:08.mother will stop she was excited. We have been coming here for over a
:55:09. > :55:18.decade, it was nice to get her in the box. This is your 17th
:55:19. > :55:29.Wimbledon! It is almost two decades! She will have to stay there for the
:55:30. > :55:33.other matches. I think so. Also in the box is Dominic Cooper, an actor
:55:34. > :55:38.who was in the history boys with James Gordon, they are big friends.
:55:39. > :55:45.I think she needs to have a word with him. She definitely does. I
:55:46. > :55:49.have not seen that film. He has been in lots of movies. He is big friends
:55:50. > :55:59.with James Gordon and there is something you have to do. The car
:56:00. > :56:06.thing? Is it like a Mustang? You can sing. I have seen your karaoke. No,
:56:07. > :56:13.I cannot really hold a tune. He can know. You could go big, go with it,
:56:14. > :56:18.do the moves. I might be the first person to get kicked out of the car!
:56:19. > :56:22.You want. You will not get kicked out of the car, you would love it.
:56:23. > :56:36.The diamond earrings are very nice. Thank you. De Gea get those? -- did
:56:37. > :56:41.you get those? Yes, that is why I am wearing them! They were a gift from
:56:42. > :56:44.a friend. Diamonds are a girls best friend. They are always with you
:56:45. > :56:49.through sick and then. No matter what happens. You could sing
:56:50. > :56:55.diamonds are forever, that could be your car song. I have actually sung
:56:56. > :57:05.that song. It is a really good song for me and for my tone. Yes. That is
:57:06. > :57:10.the one. You have the diamonds for it. It is perfect. I know you are
:57:11. > :57:16.very good friends with Sheryl Sandberg and it has had a big impact
:57:17. > :57:21.on your life and you have been a big support as she has gone through a
:57:22. > :57:29.tough time. Are you living more by this sort of moral understanding of
:57:30. > :57:35.lean in? Yes, I think it is strong for women and strong women, we need
:57:36. > :57:40.to support each other and build this network and this group that supports
:57:41. > :57:44.other women and that is what it is all about. I am so happy to be part
:57:45. > :57:48.of that and to know Sheryl and just to be her friend, it has been a
:57:49. > :57:52.great experience for us both and at the end of the day we always come
:57:53. > :57:58.together and we do some fun things and I really love it. I just noticed
:57:59. > :58:03.even playing tennis, at the end of matches you are very warm. You
:58:04. > :58:09.embrace your opponent, you did it today and you did it at the French.
:58:10. > :58:13.You seem more supportive. Yes, I feel like the success of every woman
:58:14. > :58:18.should be the inspiration to the next. If women look at it like that
:58:19. > :58:23.more, then it could create so much success throughout women as a group
:58:24. > :58:27.and as a whole. That is how I like to look at it. When someone wins or
:58:28. > :58:31.someone succeeds, it is an inspiration to May and I'm truly
:58:32. > :58:41.happy for them. We have to talk about your match. -- to me. What
:58:42. > :58:46.were you happy with, what would you work on? I was happy with how I
:58:47. > :58:51.started, the first three games were great, unfortunately you do not win
:58:52. > :58:54.a match on the first three games, it got shaky after that. If I can
:58:55. > :58:58.channel that and continue to do that, I think I would be good. If
:58:59. > :59:05.you could give yourself a rating of how you feel fitness wise, movement
:59:06. > :59:12.wise, where are you now? I feel like a ten, but anything can happen.
:59:13. > :59:17.Thank you very much. Lovely to hear from Serena and she has been such an
:59:18. > :59:22.inspiration to so many players on the tour and a straight sets win on
:59:23. > :59:27.Centre Court today. This is the scene at Wimbledon on day two, we
:59:28. > :59:33.work promised it would be raining and it has just come when Carol
:59:34. > :59:37.Kirkwood said it would, just before five o'clock. An unfortunate scene.
:59:38. > :59:42.The first reign of Wimbledon 2016 and I think they will have a long
:59:43. > :59:46.wait. Those people are queueing to Centre Court tickets because they
:59:47. > :59:49.are hoping that a few people will be vacated in their seats and they sell
:59:50. > :59:56.them on and they get a chance to see some live tennis. Not a very happy
:59:57. > :00:00.seen here at Wimbledon, but we have had plenty of play, many results to
:00:01. > :00:07.bring you if you are just joining us here on BBC One.
:00:08. > :00:14.We will start with the Eastbourne Champion Dominika Cibulkova. She has
:00:15. > :00:25.continued the impressive form she has shown down on the south-east
:00:26. > :00:32.coast. Mariano Lodz Baroni is not tall but is a power player. -- no Ya
:00:33. > :00:34.know Lou kicked Baroni. Katie Swan was beaten by Timea Babos of
:00:35. > :00:51.Hungary. In the men's Championship, many
:00:52. > :00:59.results to bring you. Lu will play Andy Murray now. We remember him
:01:00. > :01:08.from 2010 when he put out Andy Roddick which was a big shock. It is
:01:09. > :01:12.Lu against Murray in round two. And Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has played so
:01:13. > :01:17.many memorable matches here at Wimbledon. He has twice been through
:01:18. > :01:28.to the last four. He was a comfortable winner today.
:01:29. > :01:37.We all remember Dustin Brown who put out Rafa McDowall last year. He was
:01:38. > :01:40.rewarded with a wildcard into this year's championships, and he
:01:41. > :01:41.certainly rewarded the crowd with a wonderful display of tennis yet
:01:42. > :01:51.again. He goes through to face Nick
:01:52. > :02:02.Kyrgios. He was on court earlier today. He won and four sets against
:02:03. > :02:09.Radek Stepanek. The 37-year-old. It is a very friendly embrace because
:02:10. > :02:15.Stepanek offered to help mentor Kyrgios and you can see good friends
:02:16. > :02:21.embrace at the net. After the match, Kerry spoke to John Inverdale.
:02:22. > :02:36.This promises to be an entertaining match. Dustin Brown is one of the
:02:37. > :02:40.most interesting players on tour and I think a lot of people will be
:02:41. > :02:45.looking forward to seeing me against him. It will be a lot of fun. How
:02:46. > :02:51.long have you known him? What has your relationship been like? He is a
:02:52. > :02:56.guy who does not take themselves too seriously, he is always ready to
:02:57. > :03:02.have a laugh or joke around. I have known him for a couple of years and
:03:03. > :03:06.I am a massive fan of his tennis. Give me three words to describe
:03:07. > :03:14.Dustin Brown. He is entertaining. I feel like he is special, he is
:03:15. > :03:17.definitely a special tennis player. And he is probably an entertainer as
:03:18. > :03:26.well. He loves entertaining the crowd. Have I said that? I am only
:03:27. > :03:31.asking you that because we have asked him for three words to
:03:32. > :03:37.describe you. What did he say? He is doing an interview at the moment
:03:38. > :03:42.upon the roof. I will take his words because we are similar! You are good
:03:43. > :03:46.mates. Will you be happy to lose to him? I am not thinking about that. I
:03:47. > :03:51.will go out there with the same mindset I have in every match and
:03:52. > :03:57.just compete and see how it goes. From the public 's point of view, it
:03:58. > :04:05.is the kind of game that people will want to go and see. How much is it
:04:06. > :04:09.about being more than a tennis match, it is about putting on a
:04:10. > :04:14.show? I think the number one priority for both of us is to win
:04:15. > :04:18.this match. We have both made deep runs and had our best results here.
:04:19. > :04:23.We both understand it will be a tough match as well. When the other
:04:24. > :04:29.guys playing well, we can do special things on the surface. Do you fancy
:04:30. > :04:35.having his hair? No, but I do like it. I have touched it several times.
:04:36. > :04:42.We have very different styles. I have no idea what to say to that!
:04:43. > :04:51.Feliciano Lopez is through in his opening match in straight sets.
:04:52. > :05:00.And it is wonderful to see you Juan Martin Del Potro back in a Grand
:05:01. > :05:05.Slam tournament again. He has missed the last nine. He is now working
:05:06. > :05:12.with his coach who used to work with Andy Murray. He came through in
:05:13. > :05:17.straight sets against Stephane Robert. He has been off the tour
:05:18. > :05:19.because of injuries. He is back and it is great to see him back. One of
:05:20. > :05:29.the good guys. And Benoit Paire, the 26th seed, he
:05:30. > :05:36.took three hours and 54 minutes to win his match in the eighth and
:05:37. > :05:41.final set. He is in Andy Murray's half of the draw. He will be
:05:42. > :05:48.delighted to get that one under his belt.
:05:49. > :05:53.Stan Wawrinka, the number four seed is on Court Number One, against the
:05:54. > :06:00.very talented 18-year-old from the United States, Taylor Fritz. He
:06:01. > :06:04.almost closed it out but then it went to a tie-break. Many people are
:06:05. > :06:09.predicting Fritz will be a future top ten player. It was Stan who was
:06:10. > :06:21.the boss today. That was when the weather was a
:06:22. > :06:26.little kinder to ask. As you can see now, the rain is coming down very
:06:27. > :06:30.heavily indeed. No prospect of play on any of the outside courts for
:06:31. > :06:36.some time. The radar is suggesting it will stay with us for some time.
:06:37. > :06:40.Everyone trying to find something to do on the outside courts, but very
:06:41. > :06:45.happy for those on Centre Court. I think they will be very busy in the
:06:46. > :06:53.food court and the bar areas at the moment. That is under Court Number
:06:54. > :06:56.One where that food quarters. We are heading to Centre Court because
:06:57. > :07:00.Caroline Wozniacki is on court against Svetlana Kuznetsova. It will
:07:01. > :07:05.be a very different atmosphere on Centre Court. It has a very
:07:06. > :07:10.different feel. It is becoming an indoor tournament. They are under
:07:11. > :07:14.the lights but we are happy to have play for you as the rain comes down.
:07:15. > :07:15.They are just about to get underway, perfect timing and we can join Tracy
:07:16. > :07:26.Austin and Arie Davies. BARRY DAVIS: we are looking at
:07:27. > :07:42.Caroline Wozniacki. Her partner seems to have been
:07:43. > :07:46.around for ages, from Russia. She celebrated her 31st birthday
:07:47. > :07:48.yesterday. She has two grand slam titles to her name but has never got
:07:49. > :08:23.past the quarterfinal here. A change between the two matches
:08:24. > :08:50.with huge efficiency by the Wimbledon authorities.
:08:51. > :08:53.TRACY AUSTIN: the first thing you notice with the roof on as the echo
:08:54. > :09:24.of the ball. That is the shot Kuznetsova will be
:09:25. > :09:57.looking to dictate with all day. Very difficult for Wozniacki to get
:09:58. > :10:45.any control on the quality of the forehands in this opening game.
:10:46. > :11:04.Kuznetsova comes from a family of cycling. Her father a coach in that
:11:05. > :11:08.sport, her mother a world and Olympic champion in that sport. Her
:11:09. > :11:15.brother silver medallist in Atlanta's at that sport. You could
:11:16. > :11:22.say at Wimbledon, she is already on her bike! A terrific first game.
:11:23. > :11:29.Playing with so much aggression, very quick around the court. One of
:11:30. > :12:17.her other big weapons is her serve. It is fascinating to see how she
:12:18. > :13:01.plays that shot. For Wozniacki it is the backhand
:13:02. > :13:22.which is the bigger weapon. Court position will be very
:13:23. > :13:58.important. Nicely done. I love the aggressive
:13:59. > :14:31.mindedness of Wozniacki. A very quick and authoritative
:14:32. > :15:33.intervention by the umpire from Croatia.
:15:34. > :15:49.Neither player yet finding their range.
:15:50. > :16:00.Both players knowing that they will not have the time to have a slow
:16:01. > :16:20.start into the tournament. It starts at a high level right away.
:16:21. > :16:38.Debts of with one of the best kick serves on the tour. Many have a
:16:39. > :16:43.kick-serve but very few can get it with that much power -- Kuznetsova
:16:44. > :17:46.with one of the best kick serves on tour.
:17:47. > :18:06.Attacking the second serve of Wozniacki is definitely part of the
:18:07. > :18:11.game plan for Kuznetsova today. There she tried to get it to the
:18:12. > :18:27.Kuznetsova backhand. It is uncomfortable for her.
:18:28. > :18:34.The first challenge. The first action from Hawk-Eye.
:18:35. > :20:08.UMPIRE: The call stands. The first three games suggesting we
:20:09. > :20:13.are going to get a match. A match that the status of these two would
:20:14. > :20:18.justify. Absolutely. When we saw the draw, we knew this was the match to
:20:19. > :20:25.look at for the first round. Kuznetsova was a US Open champion
:20:26. > :20:33.and Wozniacki two-time finalist at the US Open. These are a couple of
:20:34. > :20:40.the biggest names in our sport and playing in the first round. This is
:20:41. > :20:46.a tough first-round matchup. Caroline Wozniacki had a difficult
:20:47. > :20:50.spring. She sprained her right ankle badly in training before the
:20:51. > :20:56.clay-court season. She was in a plaster cast. She let us know
:20:57. > :21:00.through social media along the way how she was progressing. It took a
:21:01. > :21:08.long time and she missed the whole clay-court season. She looks like
:21:09. > :21:10.she could do with a little bit of help and a safety pin coming late to
:21:11. > :21:16.the day. One shoulder perfectly fitted, the
:21:17. > :21:37.other one off. Tough for Wozniacki when she was
:21:38. > :21:39.world number one and people said how could you be world number one when
:21:40. > :22:06.you have not won a Grand Slam? She won six titles each year so she
:22:07. > :22:35.was very consistent. That is what they teach you! Don't
:22:36. > :22:36.try and be clever, just make them be courageous and control something
:22:37. > :23:31.they probably cannot control. Wozniacki is known for her
:23:32. > :23:33.toughness. That was a justified challenge. It was pretty close to
:23:34. > :24:54.the line. Not close enough. Terrific footwork. Good shoulder
:24:55. > :27:11.turn. Good courageous play by Wozniacki.
:27:12. > :27:14.Kuznetsova hit the pass and moved quickly forward. It looked like she
:27:15. > :27:41.had a lot of room to hit. A great job saving three break
:27:42. > :28:11.points from Wozniacki. Never panicked.
:28:12. > :28:15.An excellent pass from an awkward position from Kuznetsova. The ball
:28:16. > :28:34.got behind her. UMPIRE: Miss Wozniacki is calling
:28:35. > :30:13.the ball. -- challenging the call. A very good holder for the game.
:30:14. > :30:20.Errors at the start of the game, then cheat got herself back to deuce
:30:21. > :30:26.and she can feel pretty satisfied with herself. Very much so, that is
:30:27. > :30:30.the kind of game you expect from Wozniacki, she is down, she just
:30:31. > :30:36.keeps on plugging away, never gets upset with herself. It is
:30:37. > :30:41.interesting, on the other side you have Kuznetsova who will just hit
:30:42. > :30:45.shots that are so powerful, but sometimes not the right shot.
:30:46. > :30:49.Whereas Caroline Wozniacki plays well within herself and usually
:30:50. > :30:58.makes such good decisions and does not have that raw power.
:30:59. > :31:05.In a day and age where there is very little diversity in the game as far
:31:06. > :31:18.as the serve and volley is, this match has that contrast. --
:31:19. > :31:58.volleyers. That is a face with some concentration.
:31:59. > :32:13.Oh! APPLAUSE Brilliant. Incredibly constructive
:32:14. > :32:17.point there from Kuznetsova. So much power at the beginning. A little
:32:18. > :32:43.versatility with the drop shot, well disguised.
:32:44. > :33:41.That was an excellent return from Wozniacki, hard and deep and up the
:33:42. > :33:45.middle. Gave herself a good margin and Kuznetsova absorbed the paste
:33:46. > :34:17.beautifully. -- the pace. The backhand, the bread and butter
:34:18. > :34:50.shot for Wozniacki. So much confidence on that wing.
:34:51. > :34:56.Both players hesitated after that second serve, Wozniacki and
:34:57. > :35:02.Kuznetsova on her second shot, thinking her seconds was out. -- her
:35:03. > :35:24.second serve was out. APPLAUSE
:35:25. > :35:41.The baseline, the ball was called out. The call stands. Game, Miss
:35:42. > :35:49.Kuznetsova. The line judges have been right every time so far. 3-3,
:35:50. > :36:12.the opening set. To horrific serve to open up the
:36:13. > :37:07.court. -- a brilliant serve to open up the court.
:37:08. > :37:20.APPLAUSE What a good rally! Lots of good
:37:21. > :37:23.shots. Kuznetsova showing her improv skills on the full stretch on the
:37:24. > :37:44.backhand. A nicely executed drop shot.
:37:45. > :37:54.A loose air on the return and that sums it up from Kuznetsova.
:37:55. > :40:26.APPLAUSE UMPIRE: New balls, please.
:40:27. > :40:37.Sometimes there is the fact that people that makes mistakes -- that
:40:38. > :40:45.make mistakes add something to the watcher. Let's look at this. This is
:40:46. > :40:51.an example of Kuznetsova's serve placement, this is the kick-serve
:40:52. > :40:57.out wide. It really jumps out wide. Up to the two hander of Wozniacki.
:40:58. > :41:07.Out of the strike zone. Some on the tee. And the slice is out wide. In
:41:08. > :41:13.the deuce court to move away from the forehand of Wozniacki. The key
:41:14. > :41:17.is Kuznetsova has variation on her serve, she can use the kick-serve,
:41:18. > :41:21.the flat serve, the slice serve into the body to all the different
:41:22. > :41:32.locations. It is really difficult to guess where she is going to serve.
:41:33. > :41:33.She will be thinking about it now. She is free four down in this
:41:34. > :41:53.opening set. -- 3-4. A few people moving around behind
:41:54. > :42:40.Kuznetsova. APPLAUSE
:42:41. > :42:45.An interesting point. Kuznetsova seemed to be on the de-fence and she
:42:46. > :42:50.used the backhand slice to great effect to get the point back to
:42:51. > :42:52.neutral. Wozniacki does not have that backhand slice, it is a great
:42:53. > :43:11.asset to have. I should say Wozniacki has a
:43:12. > :43:16.backhand slice, but it is kind of to hand shop where she shoves, it is
:43:17. > :43:49.not as easy for her to hit on move. -- shot.
:43:50. > :44:18.LAUGHTER She only has one challenge left.
:44:19. > :44:25.That was an effective backhand slice from Wozniacki. With two hands. You
:44:26. > :45:16.do not often see that. Kuznetsova breathing pretty heavily,
:45:17. > :45:33.going for the towel. Pretty audible determination.
:45:34. > :46:02.I game hard won by the Russians. -- a game hard-won by the Russian. It
:46:03. > :46:22.is so nice to finish the game off like that.
:46:23. > :46:45.The first point, rather gifted. A mental lapse.
:46:46. > :46:52.I always thought that was just a small weakness. I am talking really
:46:53. > :46:56.small weakness, but that could make a big difference when you get to
:46:57. > :47:51.crucial matches of the later stages of big tournaments.
:47:52. > :48:12.Five unforced errors for Kuznetsova, but she goes for a lot on that side.
:48:13. > :48:27.She pushes the limits. APPLAUSE
:48:28. > :48:32.It is rewarded there. You win some and you lose some. You play with
:48:33. > :48:37.fire if you go to that side, can you weather the storm if you Wozniacki?
:48:38. > :49:32.-- if you are Wozniacki? That is some moustache behind
:49:33. > :49:36.Wozniacki! I think Wozniacki is going to be very pleased with the
:49:37. > :49:41.way she has played so far. She was out all of the clay-court season
:49:42. > :49:47.because of that right ankle sprain. A very bad sprain and she came back
:49:48. > :49:50.and played three grass court tournaments, Nottingham second round
:49:51. > :49:56.and Birmingham and in Eastbourne she lost in the third round to Puig. She
:49:57. > :50:00.said she started to feel better at Eastbourne, two months is a long
:50:01. > :50:02.time to be off the tour and she is the type of player that needs those
:50:03. > :50:17.matches. Splendid! In every sense. A bit of pressure on Kuznetsova now.
:50:18. > :51:15.Having to hold 4-5 down. Kuznetsova making that point look so
:51:16. > :51:37.easy. A brilliant court position, on shoulder turn, balance, loose arms.
:51:38. > :51:44.One thing Kuznetsova does too often is on the running shots on both the
:51:45. > :51:49.forehand and backhand, she goes down the line too frequently. If it is
:51:50. > :52:12.not a winner she leaves it open to her opponent.
:52:13. > :52:18.APPLAUSE Unless it is down the line like
:52:19. > :53:04.that! Seven out of -- seven to four
:53:05. > :53:13.baseline winners. A good solid game by Kuznetsova.
:53:14. > :53:48.There is Carlos Martinez, the coach of Kuznetsova.
:53:49. > :54:23.She is cross with herself, the Russian. She found a good winner on
:54:24. > :55:02.point one. Peppering the Wozniacki forehand, I
:55:03. > :55:08.think Kuznetsova should put more of her shots to that side. The backhand
:55:09. > :55:23.from Wozniacki just has more velocity. You really have to come up
:55:24. > :55:28.with a winner. Oh! That is casual. A ridiculous word to use at this stage
:55:29. > :55:51.of a set. But even so, she really did not set herself... Break points.
:55:52. > :56:08.Too much. APPLAUSE Well done, Wozniacki. To get up to
:56:09. > :56:10.that drop shot very quickly. A nice first step, good racket work when
:56:11. > :56:54.she got there. She broke at the start, Kuznetsova.
:56:55. > :57:04.She has now broken at the end of the set, which gives her the opportunity
:57:05. > :57:09.to take the set. And she is just a little bit ahead. Not just in games,
:57:10. > :57:14.but just the better player, Kuznetsova. That game was such a
:57:15. > :57:18.crucial game and Kuznetsova played a little bit better than she had been
:57:19. > :57:23.playing. About 20% better and Wozniacki back off. The combination
:57:24. > :57:34.I think is what caused the break of serve. There is Peter Wozniacki on
:57:35. > :57:47.the left, Caroline's father and her coach David Cortese as the coach of
:57:48. > :58:05.Petra Kvitova. He has seen it before. So close and yet so far. She
:58:06. > :58:07.has the chance to recover. We'll Kuznetsova give her the opportunity?
:58:08. > :58:46.-- will. Wozniacki looking up at her father
:58:47. > :58:56.and coach. An impressive service game. Three
:58:57. > :00:04.set points for Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova really kicked it up a
:00:05. > :00:12.notch, maybe two that last game. She just looked so focused, aggressive,
:00:13. > :00:23.hitting her spots. Winning that game in less than two minutes.
:00:24. > :00:32.Not much between the two of them. I just felt there was a little bit
:00:33. > :00:37.more drive in the Russian. A little bit more personal belief. There is a
:00:38. > :00:45.little extra gear she can go to with the power, more variety in her game
:00:46. > :00:47.as well. The drop shot is very comfortable in the forecourt. It is
:00:48. > :00:50.all a question of whether Kuznetsova can keep the unforced errors down
:00:51. > :00:55.and stay focused and sustain that level. Of course, someone like
:00:56. > :01:07.Wozniacki is going to push you out of that.
:01:08. > :01:22.Kuznetsova goes for more of her shots and takes more of a risk.
:01:23. > :02:12.The roof on, if you have joined us late.
:02:13. > :02:15.This is exactly where Kuznetsova likes to hit the forehand, from the
:02:16. > :03:02.centre of the court. That is a beauty! She hit that
:03:03. > :03:44.superbly. Facing a couple of break points.
:03:45. > :04:16.Wozniacki got broken in the first game at first set.
:04:17. > :04:24.Aggression normally pays off on this surface. It is so important to get
:04:25. > :04:32.the first strike. Once you get on the defensive, it is tough to
:04:33. > :04:34.recover. I make it that Wozniacki has taken just four points out of
:04:35. > :05:01.the last 20. She has brought her game to another
:05:02. > :05:10.level, Kuznetsova. She is playing without any pressure,
:05:11. > :06:26.looking very relaxed. Perfectly executed point. The big
:06:27. > :07:55.serve out wide to open up the court. Another terrific point using the
:07:56. > :07:57.depth and then the short slice backhand, so using the length of the
:07:58. > :10:01.court, not only the width. What a delightful drop shot.
:10:02. > :10:06.Kuznetsova is beginning to run away with this contest. That is a very
:10:07. > :10:09.difficult shot to hit. The shot from Wozniacki came with so much power.
:10:10. > :10:54.Terrific finesse. SUE BARKER: Time for us to leave
:10:55. > :10:59.Wimbledon here on BBC One. It continues on BBC Two. We will have
:11:00. > :11:04.tennis for you and the roof. Just before we go, time to round up the
:11:05. > :11:07.main stories of the day. The defending ladies champion Serena
:11:08. > :11:12.Williams was first on Centre Court and comfortably won in straight
:11:13. > :11:17.sets. She is in to the second round. Her mum was in the front row of the
:11:18. > :11:24.Royal box. She will face Christina McHale. Next on Centre Court was
:11:25. > :11:29.Andy Murray up against fellow Brit Liam Brady. Murray started well but
:11:30. > :11:36.Broady played himself back into the match. Murray just seemed to have
:11:37. > :11:45.the answers when it mattered. He won the big points and he won the three
:11:46. > :11:50.sets. Andy has been such a supporter of Liam. A warm embrace at the net.
:11:51. > :11:56.A wonderful experience for Liam. He played well. Stan Wawrinka, another
:11:57. > :12:06.top seed in this half of the draw. He won in four sets over a player we
:12:07. > :12:14.will hear a lot more off, Taylor Fritz of the United States. So, that
:12:15. > :12:18.was earlier. We will continue to watch the rain. Hopefully we will
:12:19. > :12:23.have play on the outside courts. We will have play under the roof until
:12:24. > :12:27.8:30pm. Andy Murray was on Centre Court and in the Battle of Britain,
:12:28. > :12:48.he proved he was the main man once again. For now, goodbye.
:12:49. > :13:12.Job done for Andy Murray and it is a welcome back to SW19.
:13:13. > :13:14.Back with the Yellows, and they're already on the Bridge of Doom.
:13:15. > :13:21.I can't speak. HE LAUGHS
:13:22. > :13:22.You've overcooked those prawns. I want more spice.
:13:23. > :13:23.I don't like the chickpeas. Will they buckle?
:13:24. > :13:27.are about to feel the full heat of the MasterChef kitchen.
