:00:40. > :00:44.Welcome back to date is my goal Wimbledon and water Day we have in

:00:45. > :00:48.store. Coming up later on Centre Court, we have one of the greatest

:00:49. > :01:02.David versus Goliath battles that this Championships has ever seen.

:01:03. > :01:08.Let me tell you a story, what do you know? It is happening at Wimbledon.

:01:09. > :01:12.A story about a man who has nothing. Just a loser. Against the guy who

:01:13. > :01:21.has it all. The comparable Roger Federer! Marcus Willis, 772 in the

:01:22. > :01:28.world, the British number 23. That is delightful. Against the greatest

:01:29. > :01:34.of all time. 17 slams, seven of them right here. On paper, Willis doesn't

:01:35. > :01:44.have a chance. But trust me, the boy can play. With his crew right behind

:01:45. > :01:48.him, and while the fairy tale lasts, he will love every minute. Centre

:01:49. > :01:54.Court, the greatest stage for the biggest match of his life. Quite a

:01:55. > :01:58.story, don't you think? And for now, the story continues. If you can keep

:01:59. > :02:06.your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

:02:07. > :02:09.you will be a man, my son. John McEnroe can't believe this fairy

:02:10. > :02:14.tale that we are enjoying at Wimbledon, a player ranked 772 in

:02:15. > :02:18.the world, Marcus Willis, winning seven matches to make his way to

:02:19. > :02:22.Centre Court to play Roger Federer. That is later on this afternoon. We

:02:23. > :02:29.have had plenty of rain today, I'm afraid. Play was to get underway at

:02:30. > :02:34.11:30am, we have only had about 20 minutes so far, because it is one

:02:35. > :02:37.shower after another coming through. What we have the roof on Centre

:02:38. > :02:42.Court so we will have play, that means that we will have, we will see

:02:43. > :02:45.this man Marcus Willis who has been on the front page of most of the

:02:46. > :02:48.papers. Is going through the motions, getting ready for the

:02:49. > :02:57.biggest match of his life, a left-hander with a big serve, he is

:02:58. > :03:00.known as the Wil Bomb. And he is going on to play the greatest player

:03:01. > :03:06.of all time. He's enjoying his moment at Wimbledon. This is the man

:03:07. > :03:10.he needs to play. Roger says that he has thousands of matches that he can

:03:11. > :03:15.watch me play, I have only got one. He doesn't know anything about

:03:16. > :03:19.Marcus Willis except that he has a big serve and he plays a few drop

:03:20. > :03:23.volleys as well. Even Roger was saying that he enjoys the story, it

:03:24. > :03:28.is wonderful not just for tennis but for sport to have these fairy tales

:03:29. > :03:32.to enjoy. Federer against Willis is on Centre Court later this

:03:33. > :03:38.afternoon. First up, Agnieszka Radwanska, runner-up in 2012, facing

:03:39. > :03:46.Kateryna Kozlova of the Ukraine. We will join that match shortly. Then

:03:47. > :03:50.the warm up act. I don't think Novak Djokovic would like me saying that,

:03:51. > :03:56.but he is, taking on Adrian Mannarino of France. Celebrating his

:03:57. > :04:00.birthday today. The match everyone is talking about and looking forward

:04:01. > :04:05.to is Roger Federer against Marcus Willis. I never thought I would say

:04:06. > :04:09.those words here at Wimbledon. We stay hopeful that the weather will

:04:10. > :04:13.clear, and we will see some play on Court Number One. No roof at the

:04:14. > :04:20.moment. Johanna Konta was there yesterday against Monica Puig, and

:04:21. > :04:24.she was impressive, 6-1, 2-1 up when play resumes. Then Grigor Dimitrov

:04:25. > :04:30.will face Gilles Simon -- Gilles Simon. Then we have lost Raonic

:04:31. > :04:37.against the dangerous Italian Andreas Seppi. -- Milos Raonic. A

:04:38. > :04:42.couple of matches have been completed and Thomas Berdych in the

:04:43. > :04:47.fourth set against Ivan Dodig. He did serve for the match earlier. It

:04:48. > :04:54.went to the tie-break which he won, 7-2. Thomas Berdych, runner-up here

:04:55. > :04:58.back in 2010, stayed on Court Two finishes match. Most of the other

:04:59. > :05:02.matches had finished but today they were slipping and sliding around but

:05:03. > :05:04.they got the match completed and Thomas Berdych is through to the

:05:05. > :05:20.second round to face Benjamin Becker. The 32nd seed which is true.

:05:21. > :05:30.-- Andrea Petkovic is true. That was 6-2 in the third set. We have been

:05:31. > :05:36.talking about the rain coming down. It was raining when I arrived this

:05:37. > :05:40.morning. We got a little bit play in around 1pm but we have umbrellas

:05:41. > :05:44.are, the colours are on, and I am not sure how much play we will get.

:05:45. > :05:49.I know someone who has all the answers, Carol Kirkwood. What are

:05:50. > :05:54.the prospects of play? We are not out of the woods just yet also some

:05:55. > :05:57.heavy rain just to the west of London the moment, and it is going

:05:58. > :06:02.to be on and off through the course of the afternoon. We will see some

:06:03. > :06:05.breaks in it, but whether there is will be big enough to allow the

:06:06. > :06:11.players back on is not for me to decide, I'm glad to say. It should

:06:12. > :06:15.clear about 6pm but even then it is not a clean earrings, so we are

:06:16. > :06:22.still looking at a fair bit of cloud and some showers. -- clean

:06:23. > :06:24.clearance. Tomorrow, looking at some outbreaks of rain across southern

:06:25. > :06:31.England. These could affect Wimbledon. These are not until

:06:32. > :06:35.between 2-4 in the afternoon and they should clear quickly so there

:06:36. > :06:40.will be more dry weather tomorrow than wet weather. Heading into

:06:41. > :06:44.Friday, a mixture of sunshine and showers on and on Saturday there

:06:45. > :06:48.will also be some showers, and some of those could be heavy and

:06:49. > :06:54.boundary. Carol, I would like to say thank you very much, but that does

:06:55. > :06:58.not sound like good news. We had a wonderful opening day but Edwards

:06:59. > :07:03.like training all the way through this opening week. Some of the first

:07:04. > :07:08.round matches still to be completed. But we do have some tennis, under

:07:09. > :07:14.the roof on Centre Court, and Agnieszka Radwanska is a 6-2, one

:07:15. > :07:35.set up. We join that match now. The first service game of the second

:07:36. > :07:39.set. Started a little slowly. The start of the opening set was tricky

:07:40. > :07:48.and she got used to the big stage. She has no other played on a court

:07:49. > :07:51.like this, a grass court with a roof, such a prestigious sporting

:07:52. > :07:55.arena. She has settled down and started to play some big shots all

:07:56. > :08:07.stop she made Radwanska work for that opening set

:08:08. > :08:14.all stop the level has been much higher from these two Dunnett was in

:08:15. > :08:21.the first four games. It has been nice to see young lady, Kozlova,

:08:22. > :08:22.settle down and play some very good tennis against one of the best in

:08:23. > :09:21.the world. Where is this going? It is just out.

:09:22. > :09:28.Almost a miracle lob from Radwanska, at full stretch. We half expected

:09:29. > :09:32.this one to go in. These are the type of shots that Radwanska comes

:09:33. > :09:36.up with in almost every match, but just a little long. She played it

:09:37. > :10:10.blind as well. We are beginning to see more of

:10:11. > :10:14.these crouching shots from Radwanska, her trademark, a

:10:15. > :10:25.crunching backhand, absolute sensational. -- absolutely.

:10:26. > :10:33.Agnieszka Radwanska and Angelique Kerber, they have taken that shot to

:10:34. > :10:37.another level when they are so low that their knees hit the grass, they

:10:38. > :10:38.make contact and still bounce back up in plenty of time for the next

:10:39. > :11:06.shot. APPLAUSE

:11:07. > :11:25.What a lively start to this second set. Kozlova has given Radwanska a

:11:26. > :11:29.taste of her own medicine with lots of lobs, not just trying to beat her

:11:30. > :11:43.with pace. APPLAUSE

:11:44. > :11:46.Varies the Radwanska camp, the coach with the orange trim on his

:11:47. > :11:57.tracksuit top. And hitting partner, to his right.

:11:58. > :12:22.Centre Court slowly but surely filling up. We have a change of ball

:12:23. > :12:28.crew sprinting on to change their positions. It happened so quickly

:12:29. > :12:33.that the players don't be noticed and the line judges March in

:12:34. > :12:40.formation behind them in their new, pinstripe jackets. The like this

:12:41. > :12:45.fashion? It is better than last year. I can barely remember last

:12:46. > :12:58.year, but I will take your word for it. There is Henman Hill, watching

:12:59. > :13:04.the action on Centre Court, rain jackets and umbrellas in use, but

:13:05. > :13:11.the party atmosphere under way on the Hill. Roger Federer against

:13:12. > :13:23.Marcus Willis the highlight for the British tennis fans. Roger 's

:13:24. > :13:24.parents are here, Robbie and Lynette. They took their seats

:13:25. > :13:34.earlier. 11 winners now, she is leading the

:13:35. > :14:36.winners' stats over Radwanska. What a change of direction!

:14:37. > :14:44.Radwanska making such incredible manoeuvres on the court, she was

:14:45. > :14:48.bound to lose footing then. With that slide, it is always difficult

:14:49. > :14:53.on grass to change their action. Just a little trip over her feet. --

:14:54. > :15:14.to change direction. Oh! She did all the hard work in

:15:15. > :15:21.changing direction and reaching the ball. That was an all or nothing

:15:22. > :15:25.pass from Radwanska and then she realised, no, I can get this next

:15:26. > :15:31.wall, and tried to get back into court. Then mis-hit that backhand.

:15:32. > :15:51.-- this next ball. Frustration for the Kozlova camp.

:15:52. > :15:56.She feels the pressure with that second serve. Struggles winning

:15:57. > :15:58.points with that shot. She is starting to go for it little bit

:15:59. > :16:30.more with the second serve all stop. Dangerous area for Kateryna Kozlova.

:16:31. > :16:32.Her serve has deserted her for the moment. She is sensibly taking her

:16:33. > :16:50.time before this next point, deuce. Sloppy patch here, the last three

:16:51. > :16:59.points. Her coach living and breathing every second of this match

:17:00. > :17:01.with Kateryna. This could be a key break point if Radwanska could do

:17:02. > :17:29.the damage here. The mis-hit sends the ball out.

:17:30. > :17:40.Radwanska snatches an early break in the second set. What a shift in that

:17:41. > :17:44.game right there. Kozlova stopped serving 40-15, double fault, three

:17:45. > :17:54.unforced errors and Radwanska able to get a break. And the pressure on

:17:55. > :18:03.Radwanska saps away. The second, 3-1.

:18:04. > :18:15.That is a tough drop shot to make. As soft hands as Radwanska has, that

:18:16. > :18:31.far behind the baseline, a low shot...

:18:32. > :18:48.Kozlova aiming to strike back immediately. Retaining her focus.

:18:49. > :19:23.Radwanska with something to think about here, 0-30.

:19:24. > :19:33.A couple of times she has struggled to clear the highest part of the net

:19:34. > :19:45.on Centre Court. Radwanska not out of trouble just yet. The second

:19:46. > :19:55.serve coming Kozlova 's way. Can she generate break point from this?

:19:56. > :20:15.What an amazing forehand. With pace coming at Radwanska and able to get

:20:16. > :20:21.her hands so soft to take the pace of and find the angle. She transfers

:20:22. > :20:28.her body weight into the court, she stays down on contact. An ace, 100

:20:29. > :21:01.mph. Radwanska extends her lead, 4-1 in

:21:02. > :21:20.front now. The former Governor of the Bank of

:21:21. > :21:37.England Mervyn King is in the Royal box. He's been telling us all not to

:21:38. > :21:46.panic this week. And that, just disappearing is the new head of the

:21:47. > :21:55.Royal and ancient, Martin Slumbers, the man in charge of golf now. Gemma

:21:56. > :22:07.hearted and, enjoying the tennis this afternoon. And Dan Jones, who

:22:08. > :22:12.won the title in 1969 and was for many years a member of the BBC

:22:13. > :22:20.commentary team. On the present during the spotlight, still loves to

:22:21. > :22:28.watch the grass court season unfold. -- Anne Jones. Sir Trevor McDonald

:22:29. > :23:02.enjoying his afternoon at the Championships.

:23:03. > :23:12.Easy pickings in the end for Radwanska. She doesn't miss much and

:23:13. > :23:18.whenever you think she is in a tough position, her hands always get her

:23:19. > :23:23.out of trouble. This soft flick of a passing shot crosscourt then setting

:23:24. > :23:25.herself up for that backhand. You never know what to expect of the

:23:26. > :23:45.racket of Radwanska. Things just starting to get away

:23:46. > :23:46.from Kozlova quickly. At 2-1, 40-15, it has all been Radwanska since

:23:47. > :24:25.then. APPLAUSE

:24:26. > :24:33.Three more break points for Radwanska. Her job here this

:24:34. > :24:38.afternoon is almost complete. We thought it might be a quick match.

:24:39. > :24:39.Looks like it might be done and dusted at this rate in just over one

:24:40. > :25:15.hour. Do you think she can beat the hour

:25:16. > :25:22.mark? This, it's possible. 57 minutes played. The first game of

:25:23. > :25:25.this third day of the Championships and the number three seed and former

:25:26. > :25:52.finalist is serving for it, now. Just too many unforced errors have

:25:53. > :25:58.crept into the game of Kozlova. Especially on balls that she should

:25:59. > :26:01.not be missing. That rally shot backhand into the net, wasn't going

:26:02. > :26:05.for a winner. Just trying to make that ball, and another three point

:26:06. > :27:01.two Radwanska. -- free point. Well played.

:27:02. > :27:09.APPLAUSE Radwanska not quite doing enough

:27:10. > :27:15.with the backhand volley but again, staying down beautifully. She really

:27:16. > :27:20.likes that crosscourt pass. That forehand is a weapon that needs to

:27:21. > :27:25.be developed. It is looking good. There's plenty more to come, I

:27:26. > :27:35.think, from Kozlova. Her technique is very sound. I'm not so sure about

:27:36. > :27:42.this challenge. It was called out. It was a long way out. Radwanska

:27:43. > :27:49.giving herself a few seconds. Plenty of challenges in stock at the end of

:27:50. > :27:57.the match. UMPIRE: Miss Radwanska has two

:27:58. > :28:05.challenges remaining. Kozlova has not use the single challenge. I'm

:28:06. > :28:13.not sure if she has got a head around the challenge available to

:28:14. > :28:24.her. Easy forehand volley. After exactly one hour of play, Agnieszka

:28:25. > :28:32.Radwanska Poland has a match point. -- of Poland.

:28:33. > :28:48.Oh, no. The ball is called out. Radwanska asking her camp what they

:28:49. > :29:02.thought. I thought that I saw a part of something. -- puff.

:29:03. > :29:08.UMPIRE: Miss Radwanska has one challenge remaining. One more

:29:09. > :29:25.challenge to come. 105. Yes the biggest serve of the match

:29:26. > :29:52.from Radwanska brings up her second match point.

:29:53. > :29:56.Another good lob from Kozlova. That has been an area of her game that

:29:57. > :30:02.has worked really well this afternoon. Radwanska with the volley

:30:03. > :30:08.to end the match, but sometimes, Radwanska has struggled to put balls

:30:09. > :30:10.away, she puts them in an awkward position like there, with that

:30:11. > :30:31.volley. WHITE Match point number three, for

:30:32. > :30:41.the number three seed. She's got it. Kozlova has decided to

:30:42. > :30:49.use a challenge. Could be the last point of the match. No. It is out.

:30:50. > :31:13.There is more to come. Good judgment.

:31:14. > :31:19.Well, that is that, final lyric after a couple of near miss,

:31:20. > :31:25.Agnieska Radwanska takes her place in the second round, following a

:31:26. > :31:34.fine display over the world number 97 Kateryna Kozlova.

:31:35. > :31:40.The world number three, registers her first round win at Wimbledon

:31:41. > :31:44.2016, straight sets 6-2, 6-1. She had to wait a day, it was worth it.

:31:45. > :31:48.Gets to play on Centre Court, gets the first win under her bell. What a

:31:49. > :31:53.day for this young lady here, Kateryna Kozlova. She gets to play

:31:54. > :31:58.on Centre Court. Played very well. Was up against a very tough

:31:59. > :32:04.opponent. A day she will always remember, and for Radwanska, keeps

:32:05. > :32:08.moving through the tournament, on her favourite surface, her favourite

:32:09. > :32:13.Grand Slam. See if she can be a real contender this year. She gets to

:32:14. > :32:17.relax for the rest of the day, because so many players will be

:32:18. > :32:22.waiting and watching the weather, wondering whether they will be able

:32:23. > :32:27.to come out and compete on the grass courts here this afternoon.

:32:28. > :32:36.Radwanska has completed her task, and is warmly applauded off court.

:32:37. > :32:42.After a relatively comfortable win. Nothing for Radwanska to be overly

:32:43. > :32:46.concerned about, and lots of encouragement for Kateryna Kozlova

:32:47. > :32:59.who showed some wonderful skills on Centre Court, under the roof.

:33:00. > :33:09.So the Royal Box party heading off for refreshments.

:33:10. > :33:12.And the first MAFF -- of the day on Centre Court is complete. It has

:33:13. > :33:17.gone to Agnieska Radwanska of Poland. She is talking now to Gary

:33:18. > :33:19.Richardson. Congratulations with that victory,

:33:20. > :33:28.generally you will be pleased with that? Yes, of course, one hour

:33:29. > :33:32.matches are always good. I am just very happy with that win and ready

:33:33. > :33:36.for the next one. You have played under the roof before but what it is

:33:37. > :33:42.like when normally you would play not under a roof here? It is like

:33:43. > :33:48.indoor tournaments some time, so, well, I have to kind of get used to

:33:49. > :33:51.that. It is different. And you know, without the stand, -- sun, without

:33:52. > :33:57.the win, it's a if the rent game. It is good we could play today. Here we

:33:58. > :34:03.are, early afternoon you can go home and relax, put your feet up, watch

:34:04. > :34:07.Wimbledon. I can do that. I have tennis to watch. You have come close

:34:08. > :34:11.to winning, how do you assess your canses this year? Every year trying

:34:12. > :34:16.to do better and better I was close a couple of times so it is another

:34:17. > :34:23.year the try and hopefully I can do it. Very well done today. Thank you

:34:24. > :34:28.very much. What a start for Agnieska Radwanska,

:34:29. > :34:31.she has played so well at these Championships over the years and

:34:32. > :34:36.continuing that form here, under the roof. Not really troubled, only one

:34:37. > :34:40.hour and three minutes she was on court, she will be delighted with

:34:41. > :34:45.her start here at the Championships. So she is through in straight sets

:34:46. > :34:50.for the loss of just three games. So the roof is closed and the tennis

:34:51. > :34:54.continues under the roof, but of course for all the other spectators

:34:55. > :34:57.who have queued so long, all that I can do is walk round under the

:34:58. > :35:01.umbrellas and we are hearing there is nothing until at least 3.00, but

:35:02. > :35:07.the forecast doesn't look good for the rest of the day, but, let us

:35:08. > :35:12.remain hopeful we will have some play, because Jo Konta would be on

:35:13. > :35:15.number one court first if if the skies clear first, we have had some

:35:16. > :35:22.play and a couple of results to bring you, from matches that were

:35:23. > :35:25.held over, over sniegt and Tomas Berdych the former finalist was on

:35:26. > :35:31.court against Ivan Dodig. You can see them slipping round all over the

:35:32. > :35:35.place, they stayed on in the rain to complete this match, but he went

:35:36. > :35:42.through in four set, winning that fourth set tie-break 6-2, he goes

:35:43. > :35:48.through to face Benjamin Becker. Another that was completed, they

:35:49. > :35:55.needed just two games to complete this match from overnight and Andrea

:35:56. > :36:01.Petkovic, who is seeded 32, she was a semifinalist at the French Open in

:36:02. > :36:06.2014. She has reefed round three in the last couple of year, she will

:36:07. > :36:12.face Jiri Vesely in the next round. -- Vesnina in the next round. Next

:36:13. > :36:22.on Centre Court is this man, he is fresh from his French Open title. He

:36:23. > :36:28.holds all four Grand Slams now and a historic golden slam, all four Grand

:36:29. > :36:33.Slams and an Olympic Gold. That is a possibility for him. He faces Adrian

:36:34. > :36:36.Mannarino. Rishi has been finding out how he is enjoying his life here

:36:37. > :36:57.at SW 14. You look like you are enjoy yourself

:36:58. > :37:01.round London. We saw the photos you tweeted on the public transport.

:37:02. > :37:06.When I go out in public I would be with my wife or my Chile, and I try

:37:07. > :37:11.to go round the Wimbledon park, and not as much to the city, but the

:37:12. > :37:16.other day we went to the city and we took the public transportation which

:37:17. > :37:20.was quite an experience and people, you know, really love sports in

:37:21. > :37:25.England and you can feel their passion and sense of excitement that

:37:26. > :37:30.you are there, so, I am glad I can share that passion with them. Adrian

:37:31. > :37:38.Mannarino next, someone I don't think have competed against before?

:37:39. > :37:43.It is strange but quick technique on the sever, he used a lot of flat

:37:44. > :37:50.shots, a lot of slice, and you know, he is pretty good in defence, and he

:37:51. > :37:54.knows how to attack the ball from the middle of the court, so you

:37:55. > :37:57.know, he loves playing on grass, I have seen him win against good

:37:58. > :38:01.players in the past and he has been round for many years. One of the

:38:02. > :38:06.subjects people have spoken about is the possibility of a golden slam

:38:07. > :38:12.this year. Is that something you have given much thought? Obviously

:38:13. > :38:17.it is one of the, if not the most challenging I would say tasks for

:38:18. > :38:22.tennis player to win all four Grand Slams in a season but nevertheless,

:38:23. > :38:30.holding off four at the same time is quite an achievement, so I am trying

:38:31. > :38:35.to by aware of that and enjoy it. Well, he is certainly enjoying being

:38:36. > :38:39.here a Wimbledon. He is enjoying being scheduled on Centre Court,

:38:40. > :38:43.because at least he is guaranteed to be playing, whereas everyone else

:38:44. > :38:47.has to watch. This is ten terse court live at the moment. We are

:38:48. > :38:50.awaiting the match. Novak Djokovic against Adrian Mannarino, but then

:38:51. > :38:56.next it is Marcus Willis against Roger Federer. Of course Marcus is

:38:57. > :39:01.looking forward to his big day, his supporters are, but let us find out

:39:02. > :39:04.how his family are coping. They might be about the most famous

:39:05. > :39:11.family in all of Great Britain. The Willis family. Cousin Phil, brother

:39:12. > :39:17.Joe, sister Chloe, mum Cathy and dad James, they are here to watch their

:39:18. > :39:21.cousin and son and brother and play against Roger Federer, on Centre

:39:22. > :39:26.Court. Now, just give us a little bit of an idea, James what it has

:39:27. > :39:31.been like since Monday? It has been very emotional. And absolutely

:39:32. > :39:34.humbled by what he did last two weeks winning six matches in two

:39:35. > :39:39.weeks, that was incredible. Then he did what he did on Monday, and that

:39:40. > :39:44.last game, was just unbelievable tennis. Mum, how proud were you,

:39:45. > :39:49.Cathy on Monday after that victory On a scale of one to ten, about 20

:39:50. > :39:55.million. It was great, wasn't he. He was great. He was unbelievable.

:39:56. > :39:59.Chloe, give its a bit of an idea of what it was like for me, I mean did

:40:00. > :40:03.your friend, the people you knew, suddenly get in touch with you. We

:40:04. > :40:08.have been so popular, everyone is my best friend. It has been amazing, it

:40:09. > :40:12.is like, I have been on Cloud Nine for like, I don't know how long it

:40:13. > :40:17.has been, it has been amazing, buzzing all the time. Wake up at

:40:18. > :40:22.five, buzzing, go to bed buzzing. Can't sleep. It is amazing. Joe, I

:40:23. > :40:27.imagine brothers in a relationship, there is chat between the two of

:40:28. > :40:31.you, what did you say to him? I haven't said anything yet because he

:40:32. > :40:37.has been busy. Too busy for you? Yes. Yes. But, I would like to say

:40:38. > :40:41.good luck to him today, and, yes, wish him all the best. Phil, I

:40:42. > :40:46.imagine that, you know, it must be the type of experience that you are

:40:47. > :40:53.all enjoying, but is there any rib tickling going on with you guys? Not

:40:54. > :40:58.really. It is phenomenal to see him playing Federer here, it is

:40:59. > :41:05.unimaginable. Joe, shouldn't you be at school today, am I right? Yes.

:41:06. > :41:11.Sorry, sorry Sir. Should have been... Who had to phone the school

:41:12. > :41:16.up or did they get in touch. I got the text message from school. I

:41:17. > :41:20.forgot to ring them. I had to leave a message saying sorry, his brother

:41:21. > :41:25.is playing Federer on Centre Courtment sorry about that. That

:41:26. > :41:29.trumps he has had an upset tummy, playing Centre Court. Can you give

:41:30. > :41:36.us an idea of what Marcus was like, as a young lad? Come on. Absolute

:41:37. > :41:44.pain in the bum. It is OK for telly isn't it. He used to turn everything

:41:45. > :41:48.upside down in my room. I have a cuddly dog called Percy, he would

:41:49. > :41:53.look at me funny, he is a wind up. We love him. He has been described,

:41:54. > :41:57.mum and dad as a loveable rogue, over the year, could you just expand

:41:58. > :42:02.a bit on who that -- what that means. I I will leave that to you.

:42:03. > :42:07.Never a dull moment, not with Marcus, he is incredibly good

:42:08. > :42:13.natured. He has no malice in him but he loves to laugh. He loves a

:42:14. > :42:16.practical joke, he is great fun. He is certainly having a lot of fun

:42:17. > :42:19.here at Wimbledon. I hope it continues for him. His third match

:42:20. > :42:23.on Centre Court against Roger Federer.

:42:24. > :42:27.But we are heading there now for our second Match of the Day, Novak

:42:28. > :42:31.Djokovic, the top seed, he holds off four Grand Slam title, there he is,

:42:32. > :42:33.up against the man who is celebrating his birthday Adrian

:42:34. > :42:38.Mannarino. He is a left-hander with a big serve and can do some damage,

:42:39. > :42:41.so we will see how Djokovic gets on today against Mannarino. Let us join

:42:42. > :42:51.our commentators who will take us through this match. Tim Henman and

:42:52. > :42:55.Mark pet tick. In a cool day here at women, a very warm reception for

:42:56. > :42:59.Novak Djokovic as he stepped out on Centre Court to take on the

:43:00. > :43:05.Frenchman, Adrian Mannarino. -- at Wimbledon.

:43:06. > :43:09.The roof closed as you see, the rain, it is not raining particularly

:43:10. > :43:11.hard I have to say but just enough to stop the players on the outside

:43:12. > :43:17.court getting on the court right now. But that is what faces the

:43:18. > :43:23.Frenchman today, in the face of the world's best. Wimbledon's tag line

:43:24. > :43:29.at the moment is the pursuit of greatness. As a tournament. In we in

:43:30. > :43:33.the presence of greatness right now. Man who holds all four major titles.

:43:34. > :43:39.It is a stunning achievement. We have been in the Novak Djokovic era

:43:40. > :43:53.for so long, since 2011 and it continues.

:43:54. > :44:05.Any questions? Nothing? Heads, tails? Tails.

:44:06. > :44:11.Tails. You won. Receive. OK. Not quite sure if that is the right

:44:12. > :44:15.thing to do against Novak, when he wins the toss, he loves to get a

:44:16. > :44:20.quick service game, quick break, he sup three love and the first set is

:44:21. > :44:24.gone, tin. We have the five minute warm up, when you decide to receive

:44:25. > :44:27.serve, having won the toss, that probably means you are looking for

:44:28. > :44:32.ten minute warm up, rather than putting yourself into bat, and

:44:33. > :44:35.putting your serve on the line from the word go, so, I don't think all

:44:36. > :44:40.together a bad decision for Adrian Mannarino, give him a bit of extra

:44:41. > :44:44.time to settle down, get used to the conditions, and a little extra look

:44:45. > :44:51.at his opponent, considering this is their first meeting.

:44:52. > :44:57.First meeting as you say between the two, for Mannarino, he has never

:44:58. > :45:01.beaten a player in the world's top five, he has owed for six in that

:45:02. > :45:06.department. So this will be a big step up in class, he is a player

:45:07. > :45:11.that has been in the top 30 in the world, and is also a player, Tim, if

:45:12. > :45:13.you have watched my opinion in the past, particularly against Andy in

:45:14. > :45:18.Indian Wells and the US Open last year, he is a player that enjoys

:45:19. > :45:23.using pace. Very much so, when you look at his technique it is, a bit

:45:24. > :45:28.orthodox, you look at many more players playing with heavy spin, he

:45:29. > :45:33.likes to flatten the ball out, and I am trying to come up with a plan of

:45:34. > :45:38.how he can beat Djokovic, and I think to get through Djokovic, which

:45:39. > :45:43.doesn't happen very often you have to have something different.

:45:44. > :45:47.Mannarino is able to take the ball early, to aggressively with his

:45:48. > :45:51.backhand to Djokovic's forehand, but, he really is going to have to

:45:52. > :46:01.produce something special and hope that Djokovic is not on top of his

:46:02. > :46:07.game. He has had one player in the top ten, that was Stanislas

:46:08. > :46:10.Wawrinka, the Frenchman, he has lost 15 other encounters against the

:46:11. > :46:15.world's best, that how the top players judge themselves against the

:46:16. > :46:19.very best. There is no question right now Novak on whatever surface

:46:20. > :46:29.is currently the best by a considerable margin.

:46:30. > :46:35.29 years of age, and Mannarino is birthday today. It might not be the

:46:36. > :46:39.best present he has been given today by the end of this one.

:46:40. > :46:44.Although playing on Centre Court you can argue no matter what happens it

:46:45. > :46:48.is still a great experience. Marcus Willis will be out here after this

:46:49. > :46:52.one against Roger Federer no matter what happens there, he will have

:46:53. > :46:58.earned his right to be on this hallowed turf.

:46:59. > :47:02.Get the sense Tim, this year, given Novak's exploits, the fact he is

:47:03. > :47:06.holding all four major titles at the same time, that the appreciate from

:47:07. > :47:10.the tennis public has grown considerably. There is no doubt

:47:11. > :47:16.about it. I think from Djokovic's point of view, he has always looked

:47:17. > :47:20.for that adulation, and some sages he has struggled with the adulation

:47:21. > :47:23.and the love for Federer and Nadal. But with his performances in the

:47:24. > :47:28.last 12 month, winning all four Grand Slams, he is, it is a case of

:47:29. > :47:33.the big one, we have had the debate about the Big Four, it is a big two,

:47:34. > :47:37.but now he is clearly the best player in the world and the player

:47:38. > :47:39.to beat in every tournament he plays well.

:47:40. > :47:57.-- plays in. Fortunate many it should be said,

:47:58. > :48:02.the 15,000 fans able to be housed under this roof today. We have had

:48:03. > :48:07.some inclement weather at tennis tournaments in the last month or so,

:48:08. > :48:10.what a treat we don't get play, as we take a slightly closer look at

:48:11. > :48:17.both players starting with the world number one. Of course the defending

:48:18. > :48:25.champion here, the statistics speak for themselves. 65 singles titles. A

:48:26. > :48:32.win loss percentage record quite outstanding. There is confirmation

:48:33. > :48:40.that he finely won the one missing major from the trophy cabinet,

:48:41. > :48:47.Roland Garros, against Andy Murray. He is somewhat a somewhat tougher

:48:48. > :48:52.encounter than he expected. Ward made a second set, a tighter affair

:48:53. > :49:01.but ultimately Djokovic too strong over three straight sets. The

:49:02. > :49:04.left-hander from France, 5'11", he has maximised all he has been given

:49:05. > :49:10.in terms of the talent, the height, everything else. This has been his

:49:11. > :49:17.most successful Grand Slam where he reached the round of 16 back in

:49:18. > :49:25.2013. There you can see back in 2015 he got to 27 in the world, courtesy

:49:26. > :49:29.of good schedule scheduling, he won some of the lower ATP tournaments.

:49:30. > :49:33.Currently ranked round 55 in the world. You speak to most of the

:49:34. > :49:39.French players and coaches, they feel that is probably a fair ranking

:49:40. > :49:47.for where Mannarino plays. A solid win over Kyle Edmund. It was a tough

:49:48. > :49:53.opening draw for Kyle, he is an awkward character with an unorthodox

:49:54. > :49:57.game, if in a first meeting with these two. Novak has been excellent

:49:58. > :50:03.against left-handers, as ever you have to strip out the Nadal

:50:04. > :50:10.rivalries when you talk about Novak or Andy or Roger, Novak winning that

:50:11. > :50:16.particular rivalry by 26-23 matches, so Djokovic has won 58 and lost just

:50:17. > :50:21.13 to southpaws in the past. Four of which have come to Verdasco as well.

:50:22. > :50:27.So not often the lefties get the better of him but he has lost to a

:50:28. > :50:36.couple this year in Lopez and Vesely in Monte Carlo, Vesely triumphed.

:50:37. > :50:41.But that different stage, a different situation. I am sure we

:50:42. > :51:01.will get a different Novak Djokovic as well.

:51:02. > :51:07.Say it lovely buzz with the roof shut. It is nice to have the

:51:08. > :51:46.comparison with the roof open and the roof shut.

:51:47. > :51:54.He has been returning the ball well, returned the ball against coo Kyle

:51:55. > :51:56.Edmund faster than Novak did against James Ward in his encounter out

:51:57. > :53:00.there. Punchy backhand, lean on it. Ball

:53:01. > :53:05.comes through at a particularly uncomfortable height. Novak unable

:53:06. > :53:06.to handle that one. Looks like a good decision to receive serve at

:53:07. > :53:44.this stage. The most improved shot in men's

:53:45. > :53:48.tennis since the end of 2010, the Djokovic fist serve.

:53:49. > :54:18.-- first serve. Not that the second hasn't improved

:54:19. > :54:22.substantially as well. 94mph right on the sideline.

:54:23. > :54:32.Sets up for the easy backhand put away.

:54:33. > :54:36.It did look like a good decision, to start returning but Novak shuts the

:54:37. > :54:42.door. A real weakness for the world number

:54:43. > :54:47.one, but if he has done his homework or Boris has done the homework on

:54:48. > :54:54.Mannarino, they know the Frenchman's forehand is the flakier of the two.

:54:55. > :55:01.The backhand Mannarino is able to step in and flatten the ball out. On

:55:02. > :55:03.the forehand he has much more of a an extreme western grip. Sometimes

:55:04. > :55:06.when the ball is coming through quickly it is difficult for him to

:55:07. > :55:26.get under the ball. That is what he does exceptionally

:55:27. > :55:32.well. Just a couple of points on his first

:55:33. > :55:46.serve against Kyle Edmund. Served up over 80% of the points.

:55:47. > :55:51.Takes up a fairly wide stance as well, on the side, trying to create

:55:52. > :55:55.more angle for that serve out wide. And trying to get one hand of

:55:56. > :56:31.Djokovic off the racket handle, on the return of serve.

:56:32. > :56:46.It is fairly flat hit off both sides, particularly the forehand for

:56:47. > :56:49.Mannarino. If joust take a look at, their average spin rate, the

:56:50. > :57:05.ability. Oh, boy.

:57:06. > :57:09.Just going to say how flat that ball is from Mannarino, how difficult

:57:10. > :57:40.that would be for Novak and he hits a shot like this off the turf.

:57:41. > :57:45.Super aggressive off the returns Mannarino, always for and because of

:57:46. > :57:59.the way he produces the shot with those short back swings he is able

:58:00. > :57:59.to get inside the baseline. These days

:58:00. > :58:05.with how hard the players hit the ball from the baseline, the second

:58:06. > :58:08.return is obviously going to be the shortest ball you get in the rally,

:58:09. > :58:28.so the opportunity to take advantage of it, is a must.

:58:29. > :58:37.He is starting to send a few message, it might mean Djokovic

:58:38. > :59:14.might go more, might pick up the odd double fault.

:59:15. > :59:18.Again, good from Mannarino, it is what he has to do, just couldn't

:59:19. > :59:32.find the return. He has made a couple of inroads

:59:33. > :59:37.already on to the Djokovic serve, he will be encouraged about it. We talk

:59:38. > :59:42.about the top-spin, and spin rates and we thought we would take a look

:59:43. > :59:47.at what that means for both these two players, you can see Novak is

:59:48. > :00:03.the yellow, he is able to take the net pretty much out of play, you can

:00:04. > :00:08.see 2600 RPM on the ball. I think when you are aggressive and

:00:09. > :00:12.you are hitting ball flat through the court you are guaranteed to get

:00:13. > :00:16.good depth on the ball. It is Djokovic, he is able to hit so ago

:00:17. > :00:20.sievely with the spin that gives him margin for error, so he is able to

:00:21. > :00:24.maintain the standards for so long, without making mistakes, and he is

:00:25. > :00:28.able do that on both sides. When you are, trying to come up with a game

:00:29. > :00:32.plan to break Djokovic down, it is so difficult to serve through him,

:00:33. > :00:35.it is so difficult to beat him from the back of the court. That makes me

:00:36. > :00:39.really feel that a player has to look to move forward, to finish

:00:40. > :00:42.points at the net if they are going to be successful, which is the

:00:43. > :01:09.toughest challenge in tennis right now.

:01:10. > :01:29.APPLAUSE So good. I guess if he does that for

:01:30. > :02:58.another five hours, he's got a good chance!

:02:59. > :03:05.Considering how wide he stands even though he closes to the centreline

:03:06. > :03:09.for his second serve, there is space down that line for somebody like

:03:10. > :03:12.Novak to exploit. It is not the easiest to return. You have to be as

:03:13. > :03:38.good as Novak to hit it. That service position is

:03:39. > :03:42.double-edged sword because if you stand out wide and hit your spot get

:03:43. > :03:46.the added with the dig your opponent off the court, and if you stand out

:03:47. > :03:47.there and don't hit the spot, then you are leaving yourself very

:03:48. > :04:04.honourable. -- vulnerable. Slightly built, but he certainly

:04:05. > :05:04.packs a punch. The nature of these matches for the

:05:05. > :05:09.underdog, it's important to stay close early on, get a couple of

:05:10. > :05:15.service games under their belt, stay, two, three, four, we have seen

:05:16. > :05:29.some of these matches were in the second half it disappears.

:05:30. > :06:52.Such authority, this one from Djokovic. Not a bad return at all.

:06:53. > :07:05.Sometimes that forehand from Mannarino is all-or-nothing. I am

:07:06. > :07:12.not sure he's the sort of guy you want to take your money to with the

:07:13. > :07:17.casino. It is like all the chips in the middle every time and bang. He

:07:18. > :07:21.doesn't look like he is scared to roll the dice, that is for sure.

:07:22. > :07:24.When you're pulling someone of the stature of Djokovic, in his type of

:07:25. > :07:29.form, you will not beat him by playing average league,

:07:30. > :07:36.conservatively. He has got the win under his belt, and he might as well

:07:37. > :07:48.go out there and go for it. I think it's safe to say that Robbie Federer

:07:49. > :07:50.wasn't too disappointed with his seating in the Royal box today,

:07:51. > :08:13.Roger 's father. UMPIRE: be seated quickly, please,

:08:14. > :08:22.ladies and gentlemen. Thank you. I'm entertaining opening five games

:08:23. > :08:25.between these two. Still on serve. Mannarino acquitting himself

:08:26. > :08:33.exceptionally well out here on Centre Court.

:08:34. > :09:12.APPLAUSE On every point, he's made his first

:09:13. > :09:57.serve so far, Mannarino. Novak extracting a sliced backhand

:09:58. > :10:00.from the Frenchman, not something that Mannarino likes to go to too

:10:01. > :10:10.often. Too good.

:10:11. > :10:29.APPLAUSE Impressive how he's come out here

:10:30. > :10:32.and really had a purpose to his game and how he's executed it. Must have

:10:33. > :12:23.been a little bit nervous. I just like how different so many of

:12:24. > :12:28.the French players are in terms of how they play the game. Allowed to

:12:29. > :12:30.develop in their own natural way, and it increases the enjoyment of

:12:31. > :12:57.it, as much as anything. It is one thing executing this shot.

:12:58. > :12:59.It is another thing being brave enough on the Centre Court of

:13:00. > :13:28.Wimbledon to try it. Talking about the variation in game

:13:29. > :13:33.styles for French players. There is one common thing that they all have,

:13:34. > :13:37.and that is, they are great movers. Mannarino great on his feet, good

:13:38. > :13:52.footwork around the ball. They got the opportunity due to the

:13:53. > :13:59.slip from Novak and just couldn't quite take it. One of those

:14:00. > :14:06.opportunities against the world's best you've got to try and

:14:07. > :14:19.capitalise on. That balance. So quick to recover.

:14:20. > :14:42.And Novak continues to hang onto his serve.

:14:43. > :14:56.Like on their feet, the Frenchman, you say, and not everyone likes

:14:57. > :14:59.those particular type of shoes. Are you somebody who likes a firm shoe?

:15:00. > :15:07.I know that Andy doesn't particularly like that type of shoe

:15:08. > :15:12.that that company makes. For me it was always a consistent model. I

:15:13. > :15:20.didn't want to much flexibility in the upper shoe. When you're playing

:15:21. > :15:25.on grass, as we have a look at Marcus Willis, soaking up a bit of

:15:26. > :15:29.the atmosphere before his match, there can be a lot of slipping and

:15:30. > :15:30.sliding on a grass court in the early days, when you got the

:15:31. > :15:44.moisture. -- you've got. Mannarino with the new balls in his

:15:45. > :16:11.hand returning, 3-4. Just wonder whether the new balls

:16:12. > :16:32.May eight Novak if he can get into a baseline exchange. -- may aid.

:16:33. > :17:03.You get a bit more pace with the new balls, but sometimes they fly a bit.

:17:04. > :18:00.Fourth game, his first pace. -- ace. Going from strength to strength.

:18:01. > :18:27.Responding well, Novak, with his first ace.

:18:28. > :18:45.The shortest ball of the rally, the second serve, and that is where he

:18:46. > :18:47.steps in and rips it up the court, and got an opportunity to dig hate

:18:48. > :19:21.with the next shot. -- dictate. Always felt Mannarino was on top in

:19:22. > :19:24.that rally, but that is when Djokovic is so good at using his

:19:25. > :19:35.defensive skills, keeping himself in the rally.

:19:36. > :19:57.On what other surfers, he's just phenomenal. -- whatever surface.

:19:58. > :20:14.The response to a little bit of pressure, a fabulous service game.

:20:15. > :20:22.Watching another player outside the top 50 as we did the other day with

:20:23. > :20:27.Pelle of Argentina taking on Federer, and Roger won that in three

:20:28. > :20:30.straight sets, but it makes you marvel at how consistent the big

:20:31. > :20:34.four have been in these major tournaments. No matter what is

:20:35. > :20:41.thrown at them, having to suddenly play in doors on grass, or outside,

:20:42. > :20:52.they continue to get through to the latter stages of these. The margins

:20:53. > :20:56.in this opening set very thin, between these two, but what is, not

:20:57. > :21:02.is going to be a real test for Mannarino. It is the intricacy and

:21:03. > :21:08.the beauties of the scoring system. We were mulling over the fact that

:21:09. > :21:12.Mannarino decided to receive serve and we thought that they give him a

:21:13. > :21:17.chance to settle down, and we had a chance in the opening round with a

:21:18. > :21:19.couple of break points. As the set evolves on serve, suddenly when

:21:20. > :21:24.you're serving second, the pressure is on, serving to stay in the first

:21:25. > :21:33.set, you are always playing catch up. How will he respond, and how

:21:34. > :22:07.will Djokovic look to get the first set under his belt?

:22:08. > :22:17.Two incredible returns, just to lay a racket on it, his balance to cover

:22:18. > :22:47.that half of the baseline is just phenomenal.

:22:48. > :23:05.UMPIRE: Mr Mannarino has two challenges remaining.

:23:06. > :23:30.Against what is received as one of the game 's greatest ever returns

:23:31. > :23:52.that is a pretty healthy statistic for the Frenchman.

:23:53. > :24:19.UMPIRE: Mr Djokovic is challenging the call, the ball was called out.

:24:20. > :24:26.Reclaim the point. Tough call to make, but it is good technology.

:24:27. > :24:30.Just amazing how he is able to get his racket on the ball and put it in

:24:31. > :24:33.an awkward place, time and time again. That was an excellent first

:24:34. > :25:27.serve. That was a tense opening set but

:25:28. > :25:32.once he got at return back into play you felt as if it was going to be

:25:33. > :25:40.his set and that is what unfolded. 6-4 to the world number one. And

:25:41. > :25:45.applause from coach Boris Becker, delighted that his man has a lead.

:25:46. > :25:49.Taking that opening set against Mannarino. The sad news for the

:25:50. > :25:52.spectators waiting outside is that the covers are still on. The good

:25:53. > :25:58.news for them is, they are starting to deflate. And we are hoping that

:25:59. > :26:04.there will be some play on the outside courts at 3:30pm. As Carol

:26:05. > :26:09.Kirkwood told us, there will be more rain coming in but let's hope we get

:26:10. > :26:15.at least one out of play because everyone has waited so patiently.

:26:16. > :26:18.They are enjoying the tennis on Henman Hill, but everyone wants to

:26:19. > :26:23.see live tennis, and if we do get it, all eyes will be on Court Number

:26:24. > :26:25.One where the number 16 seed Jo Konta of Great Britain will be

:26:26. > :26:32.playing Monica Puig. Hopefully, that match will be on court in about 20

:26:33. > :26:36.minutes' time if the rain stays away. And of course on this court

:26:37. > :26:43.later, we don't have to worry about the weather. We have Marcus Willis,

:26:44. > :26:48.the big story so far, ranked 772, taking on the great man himself,

:26:49. > :26:52.Roger Federer. That's the big match on Centre Court. That'll be later

:26:53. > :27:05.on, and you will be able to see that here. But we rejoin Djokovic against

:27:06. > :27:09.Mannarino. The stats showing you on points won, Djokovic doing a lot

:27:10. > :27:14.better. Mannarino doing a good job with winners, but just too many

:27:15. > :27:25.unforced errors. He has to play slightly higher risk tennis. It is

:27:26. > :27:30.going to be tough for Mannarino sitting in the changing rooms. The

:27:31. > :27:34.first 36 minutes, the first ten games, he played some great tennis

:27:35. > :27:41.and still ended up losing the set 6-4. Not the first opponent to

:27:42. > :28:30.experience that. The thing for Mannarino at the start

:28:31. > :28:35.of this second set is not just to continue with his level, but to

:28:36. > :28:37.continue to believe that he can cause an upset after playing what

:28:38. > :29:39.was a wonderful set of tennis. Thinking about challenging. The

:29:40. > :29:44.scoreboard in the opening part of this game, probably not worth

:29:45. > :29:55.throwing away a challenge, potentially.

:29:56. > :30:04.A couple of times in the opening set, there is potential for a third

:30:05. > :30:07.visit to the net for Novak, so the confidence returning for him, adds

:30:08. > :30:12.we see Novak take that opening game, the one thing to be fair to

:30:13. > :30:18.Mannarino, Tim, he has come out here and he has taken it to Novak in

:30:19. > :30:23.accident fashion, particularly on his forehand side. He has been

:30:24. > :30:29.crushing the ball harder than he did against Kyle Edmund. You can see how

:30:30. > :30:32.he increased the pace off that wing. Sevenly increased the pace on that

:30:33. > :30:36.wing but he is not able to take the ball adds early as he did on the

:30:37. > :30:39.backside side. You feel he is stepping in with that left foot

:30:40. > :30:43.drive, the backhand through the court.

:30:44. > :31:00.A bit more square on for the forehand.

:31:01. > :31:06.Feel like Mannarino is probably in Top Gear right now, and, Djokovic

:31:07. > :31:20.making the transition from fourth to fifth.

:31:21. > :31:20.Three more to go after that. Rth to fifth.

:31:21. > :31:41.Three more to go ? I don't think he broke a string.

:31:42. > :31:50.Just wanting a different detention in the racket.

:31:51. > :32:43.Debatable whether that is going to make any difference.

:32:44. > :32:54.Going to continue the momentum he built up right at the end of the

:32:55. > :32:58.opening set. A touch lucky there.

:32:59. > :33:16.-- unlucky there. Unlucky there.

:33:17. > :33:47.-- unlucky there. Unforced errors flying too freely

:33:48. > :34:51.from Mannarino, in that particular game.

:34:52. > :34:58.Doesn't really have a return too often. He used the short back swings

:34:59. > :35:05.to drive the ball back in, get himself up in the rally, but not so

:35:06. > :35:06.easy do when you are on the full stretch with Novak serving like he

:35:07. > :35:27.does. Never beat the ball and you never

:35:28. > :35:30.beat a moving wall as well. Think never used to miss much.

:35:31. > :35:42.-- they never used to miss much. Qoun of the greatest match ups of

:35:43. > :36:21.all time, Djokovic against the wall. Could be of the greatest match ups

:36:22. > :36:26.of all time, Djokovic against the wall.

:36:27. > :36:31.Well, it is one of the iconic #3ic churs of players from younger

:36:32. > :36:34.players, there was a lot of piece in a newspaper, the Novak the wall he

:36:35. > :36:40.played against, got a few bullet holes in it as well.

:36:41. > :36:47.He, I saw the other day, Tim, I know you are a big lover of wine, he has

:36:48. > :36:52.bought a vine yard in Serbia, he has made over $100 million in prize

:36:53. > :36:56.money. That is like saying how do you make a small fortune, you start

:36:57. > :37:02.with a large one, when you buy a wine farm. Hopefully it is not going

:37:03. > :37:06.to come true for him. He has branched out he has his restaurant

:37:07. > :37:12.in Monte Carlo as well. A lot of different interests.

:37:13. > :37:21.Have you tried Serbian wine? Not yet, but I will be putting in a

:37:22. > :37:29.request. Surely he could spare us a couple of bottles to try, give him

:37:30. > :37:34.some feedback. We see it time and time again with

:37:35. > :37:45.Djokovic in the context of this match, some quality tennis from both

:37:46. > :37:47.player, after 32, 33 minutes gone, 13 minutes later, 6-4, three love,

:37:48. > :38:17.five games in a row. That was a lot easier said than

:38:18. > :38:21.done, that was not a bad point from the Frenchman, Novak's use of the

:38:22. > :38:25.slice has improved dramatically as well over the years.

:38:26. > :38:28.Able to stay in the point a bit long we are the slice but it is his

:38:29. > :38:55.ability to turn defence into attack, with that forehand.

:38:56. > :39:01.When I watch Djokovic and I think from a coaching point of view how

:39:02. > :39:04.you are going to go. Up with a game plan to impose yourself against

:39:05. > :39:08.Djokovic, so difficult to serve through him, so difficult just to

:39:09. > :39:13.hit from the back of the court through him.

:39:14. > :39:16.Really feel you have to look to take the opportunity when you get a short

:39:17. > :39:19.ball and take the point with a volley. Not many people feel

:39:20. > :40:20.comfortable at the net. Well, I'm not sure which plane that

:40:21. > :40:25.was but that was one that worked. A second serve speed of 118 and he

:40:26. > :40:30.has been what, averaging 94 in this match, to be face, he was down in

:40:31. > :40:41.the mid 80s against Kyle Edmund so he has ramped that up as well, the

:40:42. > :40:45.Frenchman. Think he has gone back to the

:40:46. > :40:59.Cassano, all in. -- casino. All in.

:41:00. > :41:03.Good fight being shown. Could have been a little

:41:04. > :43:31.overwhelming for him. 52 minutes gone and Novak well in

:43:32. > :43:36.charge. Some hardy souls hoping that the weather forecast is not going to

:43:37. > :43:43.stay the way it is, we have a little window, almost got a set of tennis

:43:44. > :43:49.out on court two with Tomic and Verdasco, but reck spay fors are --

:43:50. > :43:54.spectators are enthusiastic, even on days like this, which are frustrate

:43:55. > :43:58.Taggart moment. -- frustrating at the moment. In a

:43:59. > :44:02.few years' time there will be one of those on that structure behind as

:44:03. > :44:10.well, so, we will have our choice of court, which will be lovely.

:44:11. > :44:17.Sir Cliff Richard enjoying the tennis in the warmth of Centre

:44:18. > :44:27.Court. Admiring the performance of Djokovic

:44:28. > :44:33.once again. There is Ben, not just a fabulous

:44:34. > :44:35.player, but of course, he has become a wonderful coach as well. Ever

:44:36. > :44:57.present. He has put in the time, boarry, a

:44:58. > :45:04.lot of talk about super coaches that has been going on but the two most

:45:05. > :45:16.successful collaboration has been Boris with Novak and irvan's with

:45:17. > :45:17.Andy first time round and both... Fairly formidable amount of time as

:45:18. > :45:50.well. Not just dipping in and out. Formidable amount of time as well.

:45:51. > :45:53.Not just dipping in and out. He is so honest off the return,

:45:54. > :45:58.whether it is the backhand, he has drilled into the backhand or pulling

:45:59. > :45:59.it up the line when there is a right hand there and finding their

:46:00. > :46:43.backhand. Well, absolutely brilliant from both

:46:44. > :46:48.men. Lovely finesse there from Adrian Mannarino, but what you have

:46:49. > :46:54.to do just wrestle one point away from the world number one, is

:46:55. > :47:28.extraordinary. Perfection, personified throughout the rally.

:47:29. > :47:41.APPLAUSE Found himself well to the task which

:47:42. > :47:45.is not an easy one, took a lot about how the courts round the world have

:47:46. > :47:49.become standard in terms of the way they play, you look at one of the

:47:50. > :47:54.big differences for Novak on the grass, his slice backhand which he

:47:55. > :47:58.is using almost as much as his forehand, 41% of the backhands being

:47:59. > :48:04.sliced. Your compare that to the clay of Paris where he used it just

:48:05. > :48:10.14% of the time. A significant differences off surfaces in the way

:48:11. > :48:21.these players have to play.. Play... Delightful.

:48:22. > :48:26.Mannarino pulling the old school grip out on the forehand to try and

:48:27. > :48:30.get enough on that. Reminiscent of yours, Tim.

:48:31. > :48:34.Maybe slightly more western still that one he had.

:48:35. > :48:52.It was one revolution. That forearm was more like yours.

:48:53. > :49:05.That stayed within the confines of the court, Hay, I'll take it.

:49:06. > :49:10.Hey, I'll take it. MrDjokovic is challenging the call.

:49:11. > :49:22.The ball Kuznetsov called out. He felt it was as good as it left his

:49:23. > :49:29.strings. Almost perfect but not that time.

:49:30. > :49:58.APPLAUSE We joked about it at the beginning

:49:59. > :50:02.of the match. Mannarino had two break points at 15-0. You wonder at

:50:03. > :50:06.this stage in the match whether Mannarino needs to try and change

:50:07. > :50:15.something, stand in a different position, give Djokovic a different

:50:16. > :50:20.look. The question that comes after that,

:50:21. > :50:25.is can he, has he #234u6 players to challenge? A lot of the problem is

:50:26. > :50:27.there are no Plan B. Always comes back to trying to do

:50:28. > :50:40.Plan A a bit better. He pockets another game on serve.

:50:41. > :50:59.5-2 second set. I think the common thought process

:51:00. > :51:03.taking on Djokovic is you have to figure out way to get to the net a

:51:04. > :51:07.bit more from neutral. You feel he will win the majority of the points.

:51:08. > :51:13.It is how do you do that against somebody who moves as well as he

:51:14. > :51:18.does, slides as well as he does, that has been the game-changer. It

:51:19. > :51:24.has. His defensive skills are second to none. None. It is nice to think

:51:25. > :51:29.about getting to the net and dictate and finish the point there. The

:51:30. > :51:32.reality is there are so few players comfortable in the forecourt, they

:51:33. > :51:38.might come in behind a good shot. Djokovic is so good at making that

:51:39. > :51:46.player play a low volley. Many don't have the technique and confidence to

:51:47. > :51:48.do that. Trying to concoct a game plan to beat Djokovic these days is

:51:49. > :53:07.very very difficult. That short punchy style. Doesn't

:53:08. > :53:11.give you a lot of time to see where the ball is going. It allows hill to

:53:12. > :53:33.play shots like that. With relative ease.

:53:34. > :53:41.M Djokovic is challenging the call. The ball was called out.

:53:42. > :55:07.Replay the point. Trying to get quick points against

:55:08. > :56:04.this man. A lead in the game is not a lead

:56:05. > :56:49.when you are taking on Novak. Pegged back, Mannarino.

:56:50. > :56:57.Got the work he needed on that serve.

:56:58. > :57:07.Closes the gap to just a couple of games.

:57:08. > :57:13.To keep this set alive he has to do something he hasn't done before,

:57:14. > :58:28.which is break the worm number one. -- world number one.

:58:29. > :58:35.Mannarino maybe should have compromised a Tendai Biti on this

:58:36. > :58:38.big aggressive return, 43% of Novak's serve being unreturned.

:58:39. > :58:42.There is another one, too good. Well placed and he is well placed to move

:58:43. > :58:51.through the third round, because he is two sets to love up here.

:58:52. > :58:54.Yes the world number one very much in charge in this match. Just one

:58:55. > :59:01.set away from going through the necked round. This is the scene

:59:02. > :59:04.outside. It is a rather sorry sight. Still the rain is falling. No

:59:05. > :59:08.immediate prospect of play. The umbrellas are up. The rain is

:59:09. > :59:12.falling and with me -- we have been told there is no play before 4.30.

:59:13. > :59:17.Until it starts clearing, we are not going to get any play. We are

:59:18. > :59:23.hopeful, there looks like a window round 6.00 to get some tennis, but

:59:24. > :59:29.we have to play on Centre Court. Djokovic at the moment then later on

:59:30. > :59:35.will be Marcus Willis, the man of this tournament so far, what a story

:59:36. > :59:42.he has, coming through six rounds of qualifying, he is ranked 772. Now he

:59:43. > :59:45.is on the front-page of every newspaper, signing autographs and

:59:46. > :59:52.enjoying his moment. He is itchagainst Roger Federer later. The

:59:53. > :00:00.number 772 is up against Roger Federer, Federer has won matches to

:00:01. > :00:06.get here. He proves the fairy tales come true.

:00:07. > :00:13.He made ?208 on the professional circuit this year. It is a nice life

:00:14. > :00:23.isn't it really. Still living with my parent, my

:00:24. > :00:34.parents at home. Living the dream. A It is a bit better than this. The

:00:35. > :00:39.greatest of all time. Sufficient a difference between the

:00:40. > :00:42.two players, but Marcus thoroughly enjoying his time at Wimbledon. I

:00:43. > :00:50.hope he enjoys the match on centre. That is later on this afternoon,

:00:51. > :00:59.back we go to the world number one. Test for Mannarino at the start of

:01:00. > :01:03.this third on serve. Just no respite in, the intensity

:01:04. > :01:48.coming from the other end of the court. Hunger to make every ball.

:01:49. > :01:54.In the context of this tournament Djokovic would be delighted with

:01:55. > :01:58.this form and the opportunity of laying in doors when it is wet

:01:59. > :02:03.outside. Denise is one of get through to the third round when

:02:04. > :02:08.other people are going to be more concerned about their schedule. --

:02:09. > :02:31.finish this one off. It seemed like that lob stayed in

:02:32. > :02:38.the air for a long time. I just wonder whether he knew what height

:02:39. > :02:54.it had been. High enough is the answer.

:02:55. > :03:01.That was such a typical Djokovic returning point, straight up the

:03:02. > :03:05.middle to start the rally off, then a little bit of trouble, then puts

:03:06. > :03:10.it back up the middle, no angles for his opponent to work with, then he

:03:11. > :03:17.extracts the error and creates a break point chance. Well served,

:03:18. > :03:40.well-placed. Not easy to get that ace down the middle from out wide.

:03:41. > :03:57.APPLAUSE Superb serving. Novak, with his

:03:58. > :04:04.ability to stretch out and cover most of the baseline, to get those

:04:05. > :04:09.two strobes on the outside, Mannarino is getting himself

:04:10. > :04:13.involved early in this third set. Unable to do that in a second. --

:04:14. > :04:52.the second. APPLAUSE

:04:53. > :04:59.That was more of a wide shot down a return. Not the biggest backswing

:05:00. > :05:17.but good way going into the shop. 84 miles an hour return. -- the shot.

:05:18. > :05:29.Wonderful couple of points here from Mannarino. Not often

:05:30. > :06:21.He carves out three Redpoint chances for himself. -- break point. He has

:06:22. > :06:30.still got to roll the dice. It is what got into the was going for his

:06:31. > :06:44.shots. -- got him to the break points. All it took was a little bit

:06:45. > :06:48.to his right to cobble the serve, but Novak has hit a number of good

:06:49. > :06:56.first serves and seconds, to be fair, but this time catches him

:06:57. > :07:01.unaware down the T. Nice chance to break the world number one. For the

:07:02. > :07:22.first time in the tournament. I think Mannarino was looking to see

:07:23. > :07:29.whether he had made the approach shot before he'd even hit it. He

:07:30. > :07:32.pulled his head up, didn't time the shot. He won't get many better

:07:33. > :07:43.opportunities than that. Mannarino 's coach is more of a

:07:44. > :08:46.physical coach than a tennis coach. Unbelievable depth. Eight miles an

:08:47. > :09:11.hour quicker as well. Sometimes that can lose you a bit of control.

:09:12. > :09:24.That one did come down to loss of control. And his fourth double fault

:09:25. > :09:48.opens up a chance on Mannarino 's fifth break point.

:09:49. > :10:09.The ball is probably only six inches off the ground and he is able to

:10:10. > :10:11.wrap the racket head around the ball and bend it over the net post. And

:10:12. > :10:41.find the target. Could possibly add to the

:10:42. > :10:44.frustration that Djokovic could serve three double faults and

:10:45. > :11:21.Mannarino still couldn't break his serve.

:11:22. > :12:06.We are about to find out just how well that frustration sits with him.

:12:07. > :12:14.He almost has to end up placing the ball and Novak doesn't have to

:12:15. > :13:04.guess, either way. He has arguably one a game against

:13:05. > :13:07.Novak there in just one point, the amount of great shots he did. --

:13:08. > :15:01.hit. Fantastic shot, we can see how far

:15:02. > :15:12.he went around his forehand to hit that shot. Fairly unusual, but

:15:13. > :15:22.effective. There was a bit of Benoit Piare in that shot -- Paire. Maybe

:15:23. > :15:30.scratching his head and wondering how he's finally going to break

:15:31. > :15:34.Novak 's served. The man on your left, argue blue one of the greatest

:15:35. > :15:37.improvements since 2010, but you can see one of the big differences

:15:38. > :15:45.between these players, just the weight transfer from Novak into the

:15:46. > :15:48.court compared to your right of your picture, you can see where Novak

:15:49. > :15:54.lines with his foot inside the baseline and look at the right leg

:15:55. > :15:59.of Mannarino right inside the baseline, not getting himself inside

:16:00. > :16:04.the court as much as he would like. Just from what you can see, just the

:16:05. > :16:17.space that potentially he leaves down that line, Mannarino. There is

:16:18. > :16:25.that slide that has been a game changer. You can understand the

:16:26. > :16:33.slide on a clay court and now onto a grass court, but it is where the

:16:34. > :16:37.game has been taken to new levels with sliding on a hard court, there

:16:38. > :16:58.were that he is able to defend, and then turned defence into attack.

:16:59. > :17:06.He has just got all the options covered. Mannarino covered pretty

:17:07. > :17:09.much every inch of the Centre Court in this particular rally. He becomes

:17:10. > :19:22.a spectator to the end of the point. Mannarino has put up a good, robust

:19:23. > :19:26.defence of his serve so far in this third set. He may now be looking to

:19:27. > :19:58.try and strike. A little bit is left side on that

:19:59. > :20:03.serve. I don't know whether he is able to pick up on the Mannarino

:20:04. > :20:09.served also he takes a lot for that one, that is 91 miles an hour out

:20:10. > :20:12.wide, and he has been averaging, Mannarino, 109 miles an hour in the

:20:13. > :20:43.match in his first serve. Djokovic is picking the serve. When

:20:44. > :20:51.he serves out wide the ball toss is going further to and once it is the

:20:52. > :20:58.left, you can't go the middle. -- up the middle.

:20:59. > :21:15.That's brilliant. That is truly lovely to watch. Great use of the

:21:16. > :21:16.right-hand. He just waited until the last minute and then wrapped the

:21:17. > :21:41.racket head round. He has had a little bit of success

:21:42. > :21:49.on the returns on that second serve, tracking it entered at right hip of

:21:50. > :22:01.the world number one. -- into that right hip.

:22:02. > :22:04.APPLAUSE Well played, the Frenchman. 3-2,

:22:05. > :22:25.third set. That's all he can really do is

:22:26. > :22:29.control what is in his power and with his serve, he has managed to do

:22:30. > :22:36.that very effectively. It has been a bright start for Mannarino to this

:22:37. > :22:39.third set Matias had two break point opportunities against the world

:22:40. > :22:58.number one. He hasn't allowed his head to drop.

:22:59. > :23:07.We are enjoying this particular contest but up next, all eyes are

:23:08. > :23:19.one Marcus Willis, who will be taking on Roger Federer. It will be

:23:20. > :23:23.fascinating to see how the British left-hander gets on. The French

:23:24. > :23:29.left-hander having a tough time out here, as one would have expected.

:23:30. > :23:31.Novak is so efficient at getting through these early rounds at major

:23:32. > :25:40.tournaments. Hard to achieve what Mannarino just

:25:41. > :25:49.did, getting close to the baseline on the shots. It is just one point

:25:50. > :25:50.out of 49 that he has been able to take from the Serbian 's first

:25:51. > :26:35.serve. Not a lot you can do when your

:26:36. > :26:42.opponent keeps ringing the lines with the first serve like Novak

:26:43. > :26:54.does. Getting enough of them seems to be too difficult right now.

:26:55. > :27:00.The advantage of serving first in this third set, see if he can keep

:27:01. > :28:05.his nose in front. That's the problem for Mannarino, he

:28:06. > :28:08.just has to redline it as he tries to fit with 100% power, and then the

:28:09. > :28:35.control goes. -- to hit it. That's were Novak decided that

:28:36. > :28:48.return would go, straight in the bin by the umpire 's chair.

:28:49. > :29:37.He's been waiting patiently for his moment in this third set.

:29:38. > :29:54.He wanted it badly and he was good enough to take it. There is a break,

:29:55. > :30:00.4-3 in the third. It came back almost as fast as it came at him,

:30:01. > :30:21.and there was just no time for Mannarino to adapt his feet.

:30:22. > :30:37.Just a flick of the wrist. That is all but was needed. Good reaction.

:30:38. > :30:51.Even at the second round. This was the one, Tim. Rare miss from

:30:52. > :31:04.Djokovic. That ball was only three points old! May not see the light of

:31:05. > :31:11.day again! Ball girl was searching but to no avail. May have dug into

:31:12. > :32:15.the bin to get it out. Just shows how much power with big

:32:16. > :33:13.timing. Not a big swing or big man but big forehand.

:33:14. > :33:28.Good approach. Followed by a great pass. Even if he had made the

:33:29. > :34:06.volley, Novak ready. Aces down the T. Close to wrapping things up now.

:34:07. > :34:15.Bit of success with the drop shot. Getting in the right place at the

:34:16. > :34:32.right time, more problematic. Doesn't smile a lot on court... But

:34:33. > :35:12.a wry smile there. Sends Novak the wrong way with that.

:35:13. > :35:25.But Novak in full command. It was always going to be tough, never lost

:35:26. > :35:33.to a left hander apart from Nadal in 2010 until this year. Lopez. Seven

:35:34. > :35:49.men have beaten him, who play left handed. But Mannarino will not add

:35:50. > :36:04.his name to that list. Novak just too complete. Bit of a luck of the

:36:05. > :36:11.draw. Mannarino, hitting it well. A different section, could have got to

:36:12. > :36:20.the last 16, as he did years ago. But this man stood in his way. Is

:36:21. > :36:21.the second round. That is where it looks like it'll end for the

:36:22. > :38:19.Frenchman. Felt like the last chance...

:38:20. > :38:45.Probably is. Got involved in the rally.

:38:46. > :39:07.Oh! Created the space. Lands a telling punch. You sense Mannarino

:39:08. > :39:20.has enjoyed his time on Centre Court. Not keen to leave yet. If

:39:21. > :39:31.what he wants, what he gets... Different things. Break point eight.

:39:32. > :39:55.Saved rather than lost. Did really well not to guess the

:39:56. > :40:02.footwork. Wide space into that forehand side. Good solid split

:40:03. > :40:38.step. Chance. Another break point. If perseverance pays off for the

:40:39. > :40:49.Frenchman. If if eighth double fault. That is a considerable

:40:50. > :40:50.standard, both as distance. Mannarino has brought life back into

:40:51. > :41:16.this set. Is the comeback on? The ultimate, probably not, but at

:41:17. > :41:25.this stage of the third set, he could get inspired enough to wrestle

:41:26. > :41:36.it away. Do we need to start researching, how many times he has

:41:37. > :41:42.lost from two sets up? Once! Melzer in 2010. You have got to get out

:41:43. > :42:31.more often. Marcus Willis has had to cool the

:42:32. > :42:39.jets! By wonder what he was doing, in the locker room at that point! I

:42:40. > :42:44.am not sure if he was even in the locker room... In the gym. Having

:42:45. > :43:20.some. You have got to appreciate that

:43:21. > :43:33.tenacity. Fabulous from him. 6-5 in the third.

:43:34. > :43:54.That there is deserved. To come out, on this court, against the man who

:43:55. > :43:59.holds all four majors, and not be overwhelmed, not to offer up a host

:44:00. > :44:09.of unforced errors and some of the back cans, you have two credit him

:44:10. > :44:13.and the fans on Henman Hill. The enthusiasm, and the passion, waiting

:44:14. > :44:20.for the entrance of Roger Federer, and Marcus Willis, at some stage

:44:21. > :44:40.today, under the roof of Centre Court. His parents at the back of

:44:41. > :44:52.the box there. Coached by his father for a while.

:44:53. > :46:17.What a turn of events this possibly will be.

:46:18. > :46:27.Smart, smart approach from Novak. Sensing his opponent was inspired.

:46:28. > :47:48.Drifted behind that slice. Pressure, is on. Thrived on it. As

:47:49. > :48:24.all great champions do. Certainly contrasty fortunes in tie

:48:25. > :48:35.breaks. Novak, 13, won 11. Mannarino has won two, lost seven.

:48:36. > :48:43.He has had a little bit going for him at this juncture of the match.

:48:44. > :49:14.It is the best that he has managed to play so far.

:49:15. > :49:32.It is the ability, to keep repeating what he has done time and time

:49:33. > :49:33.again. Incredible timing, balance. Half-volley flick on the baseline.

:49:34. > :51:11.Clean winner up the line. Just underhit it! Right idea. Just

:51:12. > :51:21.underhit it... And overplayed. Didn't need to be that good. Right

:51:22. > :51:39.idea moving forward but too cute on the volley.

:51:40. > :52:06.It is an absolute delight to watch, a gem from the world number one.

:52:07. > :52:19.Maybe that was why Mannarino tried to drop the volley so close. He has

:52:20. > :52:25.seen that so many times in the past. It is not just the movement, to get

:52:26. > :52:47.there, it is the imagination, to produce shots like that.

:52:48. > :52:57.Saw the space behind Mannarino and had to chase hard. Long way out the

:52:58. > :54:28.doubles line. No going back. Dramatic end to such an attractive

:54:29. > :55:00.point. Novak... You see the replay.

:55:01. > :55:01.Checking with the umpire that Mannarino dug that out with his

:55:02. > :55:26.spade, one bounce. He did so. Eclipsed by the champions, a low of

:55:27. > :55:37.these lower ranked players, as we've seen, but Mannarino has acquitted

:55:38. > :55:53.himself so well. Ultimately, it could in vain. Two match points. Be

:55:54. > :55:55.already served for it once! Didn't pass that test at 5-4. That one goes

:55:56. > :56:26.begging. It is his return that gets it done.

:56:27. > :56:38.Banned the volume increases, under the roof, as Novak notches up

:56:39. > :56:41.another win. 30th consecutive Grand Slam match win. Who is eventually

:56:42. > :56:59.going to stop them? -- him? Mannarino gave it his best.

:57:00. > :57:20.Absolutely. Awkward player to play against. But his opponent today,

:57:21. > :57:22.simply the best. He has had a couple of tests in his opening matches,

:57:23. > :57:34.here, tie break against James Ward, opening round. This time the French

:57:35. > :57:44.left hander. Body has passed with flying colours. Team Novak, happy.

:57:45. > :57:48.The Djokovic juggernaut continues to

:57:49. > :58:16.bulldoze its way over all before. Thank you. He continues his quest to

:58:17. > :58:24.win his fourth Wimbledon title, potentially 13th major, won his

:58:25. > :58:39.first six sets at this year's Championships. Lost just once

:58:40. > :58:46.recently to French players. Tsonga the last to beat him.

:58:47. > :58:54.Congratulations on the latest win. You want to celebrate, with the

:58:55. > :59:01.crowd at the end? Yes. It has been the only much, played at this time,

:59:02. > :59:06.and that goes been Centre Court on days like this. When the roof is

:59:07. > :59:24.closed, it is more special. It gets loud. And when I failed to serve it

:59:25. > :59:29.out, 5-4, crowd got into it. 30 consecutive Grand Slam wins.

:59:30. > :59:36.Surprising yourself? Not so much. I have expectations for myself, but I

:59:37. > :59:39.am able to play such a level consistency, Grand Slams matter the

:59:40. > :59:49.most in our sport, David Ruffley a statistic I am proud of. Some of the

:59:50. > :59:56.wheels were talking, and they were saying, how many more Grand Slams

:59:57. > :00:04.can you win, next six years, two a year, 24? From their mouth to the

:00:05. > :00:10.god's ears! The future is something that is not in our power. We cannot

:00:11. > :00:15.predict. But I will certainly continue playing, with passion. The

:00:16. > :00:25.next match, Roger Federer, against Marcus Willis, 772 in the world. How

:00:26. > :00:29.can the British man possibly win? Everything is possible in sport.

:00:30. > :00:39.Roger, obviously the favourite, but you just never know. There's home

:00:40. > :00:40.player. First Wimbledon win for him. I was watching the highlights. We

:00:41. > :00:46.will see what happens. I was watching the highlights. We

:00:47. > :00:52.will see what happens. He may not be wanting to look ahead six years at

:00:53. > :00:56.how many grand slams he will win. He produced the best tennis when it

:00:57. > :01:00.mattered and in that tie-break. What a wonderful match for everyone to

:01:01. > :01:05.enjoy here on centre court. Novak Djokovic winning in straight sets,

:01:06. > :01:10.and the excitement will continue to build as Marcus Willis comes on to

:01:11. > :01:18.play Roger Federer. But the man who holds all four Grand Slam titles

:01:19. > :01:21.looks in ominous form. And we are under the roof on Centre Court, but

:01:22. > :01:27.outside, it is looking a lot brighter. The covers are off the

:01:28. > :01:31.outside courts, and there are no nets up at the moment so no

:01:32. > :01:34.immediate prospect of play, but certainly we are looking hopeful

:01:35. > :01:38.that in about half an hour, we will have some play on the outside

:01:39. > :01:42.courts. It looks as though we will have a clear spell for some time

:01:43. > :01:46.before some more rain comes down. But here on Centre Court, we are

:01:47. > :01:49.looking forward to seeing Marcus Willis, the moment he has trimmed

:01:50. > :01:55.about, playing on Centre Court. Little did he know that when his

:01:56. > :02:01.dream came true, he would be up against arguably the greatest player

:02:02. > :02:08.of in Roger Federer. Everyone here is talking about it, including Mac.

:02:09. > :02:16.Let me tell you a story, the kind of story fit for Hollywood. What do you

:02:17. > :02:23.know? It is happening at Wimbledon. The story of a man who has nothing.

:02:24. > :02:30.I was overweight, I was a loser. Against the man who has it all. The

:02:31. > :02:36.incomparable Roger Federer! Marcus Willis, 772 in the world, Britain's

:02:37. > :02:43.number 23, against the greatest player of all time. 17 slams, seven

:02:44. > :02:51.of them right here. On paper, Willis doesn't have a chance. But trust me,

:02:52. > :02:57.the boy can play. His crew are right behind him, and while the fairy tale

:02:58. > :03:02.lasts, he will love every minute. Centre Court, the greatest day and

:03:03. > :03:08.the biggest match of his life. Quite a story, don't you think? And now,

:03:09. > :03:12.the story continues. If you can keep your head when all about you are

:03:13. > :03:17.losing theirs and blaming it on you, you will be a man, my son.

:03:18. > :03:19.SUE BARKER: He will be the man that everyone will be talking about.

:03:20. > :03:27.Everybody looking forward to this match. Roger Federer against Marcus

:03:28. > :03:30.Willis. Tim Henman, I never thought I would be saying that, here on

:03:31. > :03:34.Centre Court. What do you think he could take from this match and make

:03:35. > :03:40.of this match? It is a great opportunity. His journey has been

:03:41. > :03:42.incredible, coming through prequalifying, three rounds of

:03:43. > :03:52.qualifying just to get into the main draw. He had never won a match at

:03:53. > :03:58.this level. And this is his eighth. What can he get out of it? Maybe

:03:59. > :04:01.eight games and Federer's shirt as a souvenir! But what a great

:04:02. > :04:05.opportunity. He has got nothing to lose, to be on the biggest stage in

:04:06. > :04:10.our sport playing the greatest champion we have, it will be fun to

:04:11. > :04:13.watch. He has already met Federer, apparently met him in the players'

:04:14. > :04:18.Lounge, went up and had a word with him. That is a good start. And he

:04:19. > :04:24.took your advice, he was sitting watching the Djokovic to match. If

:04:25. > :04:27.you have a little longer to prepare and you know you are going to be out

:04:28. > :04:31.here, my first experience, I spent three or four days before for 20

:04:32. > :04:35.minutes at a time just soaking up the atmosphere, because it is easy

:04:36. > :04:39.to come out here and spend the first 20 minutes looking around, and it is

:04:40. > :04:43.important for him to really focus on the job at hand which is his first

:04:44. > :04:47.couple of service games. If he can get those under his belt, he can

:04:48. > :04:52.enjoy his afternoon and try to make life difficult for Federer. He has

:04:53. > :04:57.certainly been in every newspaper and most TV channels as well, and I

:04:58. > :04:59.was up on the broadcast Centre roof, and all the foreign journalists were

:05:00. > :05:04.talking about Marcus Willis, everyone wants to know about him. In

:05:05. > :05:06.case you haven't heard all about it, here is Marcus's story so far here

:05:07. > :05:22.at Wimbledon. I was a bit of a loser. I was

:05:23. > :05:26.overweight, sitting having a pint, I was just a loser. And when I looked

:05:27. > :05:33.at myself in the mirror and said, you are better than this.

:05:34. > :05:38.Tell us a little bit about the background to your story. Where

:05:39. > :05:44.we're at the beginning of this year? Not a very place, actually. Injured,

:05:45. > :05:49.not very happy, convinced I was going to go and coach in America or

:05:50. > :05:55.England. I met a girl, she told me how was being an idiot, in a nice

:05:56. > :06:01.way. We got to know each other and I said, don't go, give it another

:06:02. > :06:03.shot. It is an amazing story, this 25-year-old from Slough, this is his

:06:04. > :06:13.first ever tour level match. COMMENTATOR: What a glorious stroke

:06:14. > :06:19.from Willis. He is continuing to enjoy the occasion. As I his

:06:20. > :06:23.supporters here. If you sent this script to Hollywood, they would

:06:24. > :06:32.reject it. This is absolute dream stuff. What a way to close it out.

:06:33. > :06:37.Marcus Willis has romped into the second round of Wimbledon 2016 with

:06:38. > :06:42.a commanding straight sets victory. I am loving being here, I am loving

:06:43. > :06:48.my tennis again, and I want to keep doing it. It is great to be on court

:06:49. > :06:52.and enjoying it. It happened to me, it is a good week for him, anything

:06:53. > :06:57.can happen. You don't see stories like that too often in tennis, so it

:06:58. > :07:01.is nice, and especially fit to be a British player doing at Wimbledon,

:07:02. > :07:05.it is great. People will hear about it and know about it, so they will

:07:06. > :07:10.support him, rightfully so. I think it is a very cool story myself. It

:07:11. > :07:16.looks strongly as if you will be playing Roger Federer next. You were

:07:17. > :07:25.just laughing in disbelief! It is a great opportunity. It is what I

:07:26. > :07:31.dream of when I was younger. I do think he was in Tunisia this year!

:07:32. > :07:34.It is a bit weird, I'm sure it will hit the some stage. I am just loving

:07:35. > :07:44.every minute of it. Well, he is floating, carry on, it

:07:45. > :07:49.will be interesting to see when he comes out how he reacts. This is his

:07:50. > :07:52.fan club, guys from his tennis club, and when he won his opening match

:07:53. > :07:59.against the rank is, they went to Cuba Centre Court tickets, and his

:08:00. > :08:03.big moment is not far away. Federer is letting him walk out onto Centre

:08:04. > :08:04.Court first. Maybe that is a good tactic.

:08:05. > :08:36.CHEERING He is laughing, I'm laughing. I'm

:08:37. > :08:43.not sure I have seen anything like this on Centre Court. Mac is with

:08:44. > :08:48.us. Did he teach any lessons today? He has a club match tomorrow. What

:08:49. > :08:54.happens if he beats Federer? If you still going to play it? He says he

:08:55. > :08:58.will! He has to carry on this attitude, because this is what has

:08:59. > :09:01.gotten to this party. You would think that he has to figure out some

:09:02. > :09:09.way to possibly... It is impossible for him to relax. If you put aside

:09:10. > :09:11.the reality of the situation and the emotions, that his strength is

:09:12. > :09:18.Roger's weakness, Battersby everything. This guy might not be

:09:19. > :09:26.able to get the smile off his face. I had a go on YouTube to see some of

:09:27. > :09:32.his highlights. He plays on little courts! But his serve is pretty

:09:33. > :09:35.good, and Roger is back and returning, he is a pretty good

:09:36. > :09:41.lefty, so maybe you can hold it. Make it interesting. This almost

:09:42. > :09:45.feels like a second week match, doesn't it, Tim? It almost has the

:09:46. > :09:51.feel of a bit of an exhibition, as well. It is probably a little bit

:09:52. > :09:53.disconcerting for Federer when he comes out on most courts here is the

:09:54. > :09:58.favourite, but we have always loved an underdog in this country, and

:09:59. > :10:03.there is probably no bigger underdog than Marcus Willis right now. Did he

:10:04. > :10:10.ask Roger's permission to wear the same headband? ! They do look very

:10:11. > :10:15.similar. Tim, you have known him since the beginning days, but he has

:10:16. > :10:20.changed a bit since then. He has. We certainly noticed that he has missed

:10:21. > :10:25.a few meals. He has always been a great character. He has always had a

:10:26. > :10:30.great sense of humour, he has always had fun, he is working hard now, and

:10:31. > :10:33.going back to this story, he was probably thinking he was going to

:10:34. > :10:37.quit the game, he was starting to coach. And here he is playing seven

:10:38. > :10:44.times champion on the best court in tennis. And Tim gave him some advice

:10:45. > :10:47.to come down here and sit on Centre Court, because it is a terrifying

:10:48. > :10:52.experience to walk out here. It is such a famous court with such a

:10:53. > :10:59.history. I was wondering why he was out watching Novak play. It is his

:11:00. > :11:02.fault! He has to try to soak it up. The first time you plan a big stage,

:11:03. > :11:08.it is very easy to spend the first 20 minutes looking around, and 20

:11:09. > :11:15.minutes against Federer could be two sets! You think that is going to

:11:16. > :11:23.change that? ! Probably not. There is a phrase, clutching at straws.

:11:24. > :11:29.Praying to the gods. But Roger, he just has to blank it out. He has

:11:30. > :11:32.such experience, it won't be a factor and less markers can get some

:11:33. > :11:39.of these big lefty serves and stay with him early on. Exactly. You

:11:40. > :11:44.think you would feel like he belongs out there. He will have to get out

:11:45. > :11:49.to a reasonably good start. Roger is not sure of himself. Putting this

:11:50. > :11:58.match aside, he has been struggling, he is not 100%. He is not used as

:11:59. > :12:03.Tim says to anyone rooting against him at all. The fact that the crowd

:12:04. > :12:07.is fired up to this Hollywood type story, what is actually going to

:12:08. > :12:14.happen, it is ready interesting. Roger, though, seems to absolutely

:12:15. > :12:18.love playing on a tennis court, so to me, he actually likes this. He

:12:19. > :12:23.actually said he was looking forward to playing this guy. Why he would be

:12:24. > :12:27.pumped up for that, you will never know, but that is why he has been

:12:28. > :12:34.able to shrug off a lot of defeats and doesn't lose that much. But to

:12:35. > :12:39.be able to last this long and play this well until almost 35 years old.

:12:40. > :12:50.When you look at the gulf between them, Roger has made ?74 million,

:12:51. > :12:58.this is any prize money! And Marcus has won ?71,000. I have never seen a

:12:59. > :13:07.guy smiling as he hits his volleys. He is undefeated at Wimbledon! We

:13:08. > :13:10.have heard his friends who have got all the songs they are going to be

:13:11. > :13:14.singing, this is almost gone to feel like a football match. They will

:13:15. > :13:18.have to get a lot of songs out early in the first couple of sets, because

:13:19. > :13:23.he might not be out there too long! From his point of view again, his

:13:24. > :13:27.movement is one of his weaknesses, certainly when you are nervous, the

:13:28. > :13:31.first thing that goes can be your movement, so it is important to try

:13:32. > :13:35.to get his feet going and establish himself in the map. His serve was

:13:36. > :13:39.the deciding factor in the first round, and if he can hit the spots

:13:40. > :13:44.and try to attack Federer's backhand, hopefully, I think the

:13:45. > :13:49.target could be eight games, I think anything more than that will be a

:13:50. > :13:53.good effort. We joke about this sometimes, but we want to see what

:13:54. > :14:00.his heart rate is! I would like that, because it has got to be over

:14:01. > :14:05.200! It was 200 in the locker room! We need doctors around here! But the

:14:06. > :14:08.one encouraging thing, he looked like he really embraced the

:14:09. > :14:11.situation in the first round, even when it got towards the end of the

:14:12. > :14:16.match, he finished it off with some of the best tennis, he didn't look

:14:17. > :14:19.like he got nervous. And I think that is the attitude, he will be out

:14:20. > :14:23.there laughing and joking, and that is one way for him to disperse the

:14:24. > :14:27.nerves, and whether he is going to be able to laugh and joke and enjoy

:14:28. > :14:32.the moment, playing Federer on Centre Court. I am just looking

:14:33. > :14:39.behind, he hasn't got a server over the net yet. They were just about

:14:40. > :14:44.halfway up the net. But because it is such a big run back, the court

:14:45. > :14:49.seems quite small, doesn't it? Still not over the net yet. This is

:14:50. > :14:54.unbelievable that they are playing under the roof. He has got a server

:14:55. > :15:02.over! CHEERING

:15:03. > :15:07.This is like a football game. This is going to be like the few days

:15:08. > :15:10.they played on Sunday, that Monday final, if this keeps up at least a

:15:11. > :15:15.little bit in the beginning, we could start something new here! This

:15:16. > :15:21.isn't going to be easy for Roger to keep his concentration, is it? It

:15:22. > :15:28.might not be that easy to keep his concentration, but we're talking

:15:29. > :15:32.about massive ability. I'm not sure, Roger has had some difficult matches

:15:33. > :15:39.against lefties in the past. Can we call the match from out here? We are

:15:40. > :15:44.ready to go. This is Marcus's big moment. Matt, you are on the way to

:15:45. > :15:48.call this one. He is alongside Andrew Castle, all yours, Andy.

:15:49. > :16:01.ANDREW CASTLE: Listen to this. CHEERING

:16:02. > :16:09.UMPIRE: Roger Federer to serve. First set. Ready, play.

:16:10. > :16:26.Roger versus Marcus. On Centre Court.

:16:27. > :16:33.He is going to get another ovation when he wins a point. Make no

:16:34. > :16:44.mistake, he has won seven matches to get here! We can you see him serve.

:16:45. > :16:51.I wanted him to serve first. Have you seen him serve?

:16:52. > :16:59.JOHN McENROE: Yes, I watched him on you Tube.

:17:00. > :17:01.CHEERING And verities.

:17:02. > :17:34.Let's all leave. -- there it is. His sister Cathy has had something

:17:35. > :17:36.on him at 2000-1. Something like that. No betting in tennis, of

:17:37. > :17:53.course. Roger was on his 10th final last

:17:54. > :17:55.year. Marcus was walking around with the groundsman early on just get a

:17:56. > :18:20.feel of the court surface. It is a long walk to the other side.

:18:21. > :18:24.You may not know the commentary league, but the standard is tough.

:18:25. > :18:29.Marcus is playing tomorrow night, like Sue Barker was saying, with

:18:30. > :18:31.Gary Henderson. They are playing against Coventry and North Warwick!

:18:32. > :18:37.It is a big match. This is nothing. They are only three points behind

:18:38. > :18:49.Hamden in Arden in the league. He saved 19 of 20 points in his

:18:50. > :19:34.first round match. Vat is a funky looking backhand. All

:19:35. > :19:38.school! A two-handed slice. Did he see that in the instruction manual?

:19:39. > :19:51.You could take down a tree or two with that.

:19:52. > :20:57.That is what I said before, old school.

:20:58. > :21:03.Just keep it nice and slow now, take your time. He is playing faster than

:21:04. > :21:21.Federer, and that is not easy. It is all a little bit heart rate at

:21:22. > :21:41.the moment. Just chill out. APPLAUSE

:21:42. > :22:24.Starting to be able to put something on that serve.

:22:25. > :22:33.Yes, very good from Federer. The balls don't come back in those

:22:34. > :22:39.leading matches like that. -- league matches. But then, you have never

:22:40. > :22:53.played against Coventry and North Warwick, John!

:22:54. > :23:43.It is a great settler, this game, if he can get through it. Saving break

:23:44. > :24:03.points, coming through the fire. That is a good flick by Federer. The

:24:04. > :24:06.grass is a bit green and soft to try the drop volley, but Roger has

:24:07. > :24:30.figured that that that is his go to pretty quick.

:24:31. > :24:40.UMPIRE: Game, Federer. APPLAUSE

:24:41. > :24:48.UMPIRE: Federer leads 2-0, first set. The highest earning tennis

:24:49. > :24:52.player in the last nine years, Roger Federer, on and off court combined.

:24:53. > :25:00.Mum and dad in the Royal Box enjoying themselves.

:25:01. > :25:09.I don't think they are too stressed out right now.

:25:10. > :25:24.Let's see, Willis, Nadal, think we are OK. We'll see! !

:25:25. > :25:44.Look at Marcus, he's off. LAUGHTER

:25:45. > :25:51.Called out. UMPIRE: Mr Willis is challenging the

:25:52. > :25:57.call. Right baseline. The ball was called good.

:25:58. > :26:03.That is overwhelmingly in his favour.

:26:04. > :26:13.UMPIRE: 30-0. That's respect. It is a circus like atmosphere,

:26:14. > :26:32.right? I feel like Bahrami will be playing

:26:33. > :27:07.the next set! CHEERING

:27:08. > :27:17.Go on, Laddie! Even Roger is laughing!

:27:18. > :27:44.He has got some good hands and feel. This is too good.

:27:45. > :28:37.Au! UMPIRE: Deuce.

:28:38. > :28:42.APPLAUSE He must have watched Santoro play

:28:43. > :28:56.with that sliced forehand. He is throwing the kitchen sink at him.

:28:57. > :29:06.See, the trouble is for Marcus, he has lost another four or fivelbs in

:29:07. > :29:09.his first 12 minutes, and he has nothing to show for it at the end of

:29:10. > :29:10.it, he is going to need those nice people from St John's ambulance to

:29:11. > :29:26.come on! Did you say he had lost some pounds?

:29:27. > :29:34.He has lost 55lbs total. UMPIRE: Game, Federer. Federer leads

:29:35. > :29:43.3-0, first set. Luke Burton Bridge, Johnny Marr and

:29:44. > :29:49.Jo Salisbury and he got a pass through the qualifying. Then he beat

:29:50. > :29:55.Berankis, there are some good players in there. He could be a top

:29:56. > :30:05.20 player in his time, so that is an excellent win. He will have never

:30:06. > :30:07.seen anything like Marcus Willis. In the old days, there were more

:30:08. > :30:15.players around with individual styles. And here, because the court

:30:16. > :30:21.used to be so much different than a clay-court orra hard court. Because

:30:22. > :30:27.of that, you had specialness to play like a Marcus Willis. It drove me

:30:28. > :30:32.crazy with off-speed pitches and slice and dicing and drop shots and

:30:33. > :30:37.the rest of it that we have already seen. Federer is not going to be

:30:38. > :30:42.overly impressed or concerned ultimately.

:30:43. > :31:35.UMPIRE: Time. He will pretty much dictate every point.

:31:36. > :31:48.Literally stands at the baseline. I am not sure that I would recommend

:31:49. > :32:15.that, against top players! Saving himself for the next match!?

:32:16. > :32:26.Hopefully, he gets on the board. Sooner rather than later. Remember,

:32:27. > :32:29.Broady against Murr against Djokovic. Broady against Murray.

:32:30. > :33:04.Settled down. Tough draws. Roger hasn't missed the court that

:33:05. > :33:15.much yet. Good weight. Been here a few times! He has got to use that

:33:16. > :33:28.serve. That is what is going to help him.

:33:29. > :34:29.No future there. The good thing for Willis, his best shot are those drop

:34:30. > :34:38.shots, but Federer sees that, moves forward when he sees that. Not

:34:39. > :34:49.fooled at all. I thought Roger was such a nice guy! Just look at what

:34:50. > :34:57.he is doing to this British man! 5-0 might be the time to get a hold.

:34:58. > :35:38.You'll be happy. Roger still a nice guy!

:35:39. > :35:49.Last year, this Emmy Fino, against Murray, hardly ever seen serving

:35:50. > :35:53.like it. You talk about things, happening too quickly for Willis.

:35:54. > :36:17.Take a bathroom break? Great shot. OK. We have talked about

:36:18. > :36:27.Willis, but this is Roger Federer's place. 34 now. We do not know how

:36:28. > :36:30.long he is going to be playing at this level. Number three at the

:36:31. > :36:39.moment. He has had trouble with injuries. Third seed. Number one in

:36:40. > :36:44.2004. 302 weeks at number one in the world. That is the longest of

:36:45. > :36:56.anybody. Djokovic, 205. I suspect he is not going anywhere. Not at all.

:36:57. > :37:05.Played Novak in the semis at Australia, and apparently, the next

:37:06. > :37:11.morning he was in bath with his kid, slipped, hurt his knee! Back has

:37:12. > :37:21.been out. Not able to get on the court and. After 65 consecutive

:37:22. > :37:33.events. Continuing to get rust off. Lost to Thiem... But here he is,

:37:34. > :37:59.trying to get his act together. There. See.

:38:00. > :38:10.Maybe he should just go for aces on both serves! Played the juniors here

:38:11. > :38:49.a couple of times. Won rounds. Loves grass courts.

:38:50. > :38:59.Back to the baseline after the half-volley. That is not going to

:39:00. > :39:09.scare Federer. I do not think he would have fared better any other

:39:10. > :39:18.way... And that is a beautiful shot. Game point!

:39:19. > :39:30.22 minutes in. Get ready for a standing ovation! Open the roof, let

:39:31. > :40:05.pressure out! Aw, come on Roger! The script we got this morning...

:40:06. > :40:13.Hold a few service games, you never know. Jennifer not looking so happy.

:40:14. > :41:21.Not easy. That's a shame. All going a little

:41:22. > :41:27.quickly. Definitely the highlight of the day for many here. But hopefully

:41:28. > :41:37.Willis is going to get off and running soon. Played well in clubs

:41:38. > :41:45.matches, France and Germany, this year. Met Jennifer. A dentist. He

:41:46. > :41:51.was going to take a coaching job, at the United States, and she said

:41:52. > :41:56.don't go! I wonder how he is going to get anything out of this, but

:41:57. > :42:09.this is his moment, ?50,000, and if you think that does not matter, so

:42:10. > :42:19.far he has just won $364! Because of what has been going on, that has

:42:20. > :42:24.been worth more... And have you seen that photo of him at the Rocky

:42:25. > :42:33.statue? When he was at Philadelphia. He showed that, on ESPN. We will try

:42:34. > :42:44.to track that down. That is what it is like. Rocky Balboa. David v

:42:45. > :43:47.Goliath. Just trying to get on the board.

:43:48. > :43:59.This is an elite group. You cannot just walk in here, be one of them.

:44:00. > :44:15.Club guys, thinking they can step up. And a key element people forget!

:44:16. > :44:28.When people think I could have been a pro. Roger is doing that on behalf

:44:29. > :44:35.of others in the tournament. This is important, for family, loved ones,

:44:36. > :44:43.Marcus. Tennis balls, nice and new, help the lefty serve. Yes. Good.

:44:44. > :44:57.Let's hope he gets on the board here.

:44:58. > :45:20.Might have been in. In! Celebration! Bank holiday! Back in the EU! Come

:45:21. > :45:46.on now... Oh! Get out. Here we go! Don't want to

:45:47. > :45:51.celebrate too quickly... Standing ovation coming up? Serve, put Roger

:45:52. > :46:26.in the second row! Come on. Years to come, he'll say the first

:46:27. > :46:33.30 minutes was any good... Superb after that. 29 minutes played. --

:46:34. > :47:25.wasn't. Yes! You beauty! It's changed on

:47:26. > :47:42.Centre Court! Willis storms to his first game. On their feet! All

:47:43. > :48:24.right... OK... 1-1. Little perspective!

:48:25. > :48:36.Brave shot. First time I've seen Roger slow down. Gather himself.

:48:37. > :49:10.Excellent return. Too long. Don't even worry about

:49:11. > :49:16.that one! Too long. Get a breather! Carlos in the chair. 25 years as an

:49:17. > :49:57.umpire. It was not an easy hold. Trainer is

:49:58. > :50:31.on the court. Heart rate monitor, I believe!

:50:32. > :50:46.Or busily, -- obviously tight in the shoulder. We can show you what has

:50:47. > :50:58.been happening elsewhere. Jo Konta, seeded 16, on BBC Two. 2-1 up. Puig

:50:59. > :51:04.broke. 4-4 now. Now 5-4 up. One game away from going through. And on

:51:05. > :51:09.court 12, Heather Watson, up a break. But we can go back to Centre

:51:10. > :51:33.Court. No shortage of touch, Marcus Willis.

:51:34. > :51:42.Born in Slough. Plays in Warwick. At the boat club. Have one for ?30 an

:51:43. > :51:55.hour! Deserves it. Finally found himself. Playing a tennis match.

:51:56. > :52:05.Over were men, -- overwhelming, the first set, as we would have

:52:06. > :52:12.expected. You do not win seven matches by chance, first round vi

:52:13. > :52:25.qualifying, then qualifying, first round victory.

:52:26. > :52:43.Good feel for the ball. Trying to do the near impossible. Get Federer off

:52:44. > :53:14.balance. Grimacing a bit. The shoulder. Tightening up?

:53:15. > :53:40.UMPIRE: ball is good. Roger will look at that. It was in. In the

:53:41. > :53:46.middle of a good point. That is what he said!

:53:47. > :54:17.After getting treatment for the shoulder... Perhaps all the

:54:18. > :54:30.attention, after the matches, a nice hold. Pleasing for the cheerleading

:54:31. > :54:47.squad! Didn't need sympathy, did he? That forehand. The speed of that!

:54:48. > :54:55.Just no idea where he's hitting it. Also, different points, different

:54:56. > :55:04.areas, knees, waist. He can wait, look. How many players can look

:55:05. > :56:14.before hitting it? He seems to be able to do that.

:56:15. > :56:27.Marcus Willis who has won one match at Grand Slam level, these four

:56:28. > :56:37.major championships, Federer has 303. It

:56:38. > :56:48.is an amazing record. But he has a better win percentage! You are a

:56:49. > :57:00.coach now! Take me through it. Federer, left, Willis right. Or

:57:01. > :57:03.busily, the forehand one of the greatest in the history of the

:57:04. > :57:14.sport. Federer you have mentioned, that this man has played junior

:57:15. > :57:20.Wimbledon. The way players are maturing... You hope that he

:57:21. > :57:32.dedicates himself to the sport, and gets supremely fit. Certainly,

:57:33. > :58:17.success if you want to make it. He has got personality, character.

:58:18. > :58:26.Obviously enjoying himself at this point. In the set. How long can that

:58:27. > :58:38.continue? As they say, enjoy the moment. It

:58:39. > :59:05.will be fleeting! I am just looking at the court, when

:59:06. > :59:14.he misses the half volleys. Bad news. Not the court! Good serve. He

:59:15. > :59:23.has got to do that, continuously, to Federer. Bigger guy. 6'2, 6'3? 6'2

:59:24. > :59:38.at least. Threw that toss too far in front.

:59:39. > :00:22.Reaches. That hurt the shoulder. Wow. Wonderful footwork from Roger

:00:23. > :00:24.Federer. Did you see how quickly he was that short ball? Didn't have

:00:25. > :00:31.much on it. The way he moves, he just doesn't

:00:32. > :00:39.put strain on his body. He has been injury free until this

:00:40. > :00:56.year. That is the hardest serve he has

:00:57. > :01:22.hit. He is getting a lot of reward when

:01:23. > :01:37.the first delivery goes in, and virtually no reward when he misses.

:01:38. > :01:45.APPLAUSE UMPIRE: Deuce. Look where Federer is

:01:46. > :02:11.standing, and look where Willis is. He is too predictable with that drop

:02:12. > :02:19.shot. He is saying, please, can this point just be over! He is slowing

:02:20. > :02:21.down a little bit here. He is one of the few guys I see who plays faster

:02:22. > :02:33.than Federer. Yes, too good. A beautifully

:02:34. > :02:34.constructive break of serve, and that is probably good enough for the

:02:35. > :03:12.second set. We will see. You don't see players spot their

:03:13. > :03:19.serves at the corners the way Federer does in club matches. I have

:03:20. > :03:42.told you about that Coventry league, though, you don't know!

:03:43. > :03:58.UMPIRE: Federer leads 5-2, second set, one sets to love. If Federer

:03:59. > :04:02.makes it to the quarterfinals of this championship once again, he

:04:03. > :04:14.will have more Grand Slam wins than any other player. Martina Hingis

:04:15. > :04:18.currently at 306 is. I hope we see him for a lot longer, but when the

:04:19. > :04:26.injury start coming in... He is currently still number three in the

:04:27. > :04:30.world. Hail has got to the finals and faced Djokovic on both

:04:31. > :04:35.occasions. It is going to be a tall order for him to back that up this

:04:36. > :04:38.year. I imagine he is a bit of a work in progress right now. It has

:04:39. > :04:44.been a long time since he had the sort of success that he is after.

:04:45. > :04:47.Four years since a Grand Slam Wane, Wimbledon here against Andy Murray

:04:48. > :04:56.when it broke his heart. It had been two and a half years weight then

:04:57. > :05:02.since his previous one. -- a long wait, since the Australian Open. His

:05:03. > :05:22.best chance to win something again if it were to happen would be here.

:05:23. > :05:34.That is wearing -- that is where we are and tear on the body starts to

:05:35. > :05:58.show. The slice is so critical here. We haven't seen him coming March in

:05:59. > :06:00.these first two matches except Willis has made him coming here, it

:06:01. > :06:33.has actually been helping Federer. Willis is a good volley. He has good

:06:34. > :07:07.hands, good touch. He doesn't seem bothered by the

:07:08. > :07:40.shoulder. This is a better set for him.

:07:41. > :07:50.Now, that is definitely worth having a look at, because the camera is on

:07:51. > :07:53.the outside of the ball. Definitely worth another look.

:07:54. > :07:59.UMPIRE: Mr Willis is challenging the call. 15-0. Mr Willis has two

:08:00. > :08:25.challenges remaining. He has done a good job attacking the

:08:26. > :08:38.short ball today, two sets in under an hour.

:08:39. > :08:48.It will be quite impressive if Willis makes it past one hour and 15

:08:49. > :08:55.minutes. Hold on, he would like to look at that in case it caught the

:08:56. > :08:59.outside edge. It looked like it went on, it looked like the set has gone.

:09:00. > :09:03.And indeed it has, Roger Federer in control here on Centre Court.

:09:04. > :09:05.They're still could be some fireworks from Marcus Willis, but at

:09:06. > :09:21.the moment, it is the Federer show. There they are, queueing straight

:09:22. > :09:27.after his Berankis victory in round one, they have stayed with him every

:09:28. > :09:30.step of the way. The last guy did this from Britain, came through the

:09:31. > :09:40.prequalify is and then qualifying got into the main draw and won

:09:41. > :09:46.around... ? Andrew Castle! I never went through the qualifiers! No, it

:09:47. > :09:53.was Chris Hughton, 2008. He came through all the messy matches. And

:09:54. > :09:56.he beat Marcus Willis in the first round of prequalifying all those

:09:57. > :10:00.years ago, and he was asked what does he have to deal with today,

:10:01. > :10:04.markers, and he said, little things like where you go when the match is

:10:05. > :10:15.called, because you don't know, do you? Those players are not normally

:10:16. > :10:21.allowed in the locker room. But coaches are, John, so you are OK.

:10:22. > :10:29.One coach. One coach per player. Still the odd man out. But I am

:10:30. > :10:33.getting closer. Enjoying being out here, there is a good energy. Roger

:10:34. > :10:48.is enjoying it. It is actually relaxing him, he looks it.

:10:49. > :10:49.UMPIRE: Ready to serve. And he has got on the scoreboard, no triple

:10:50. > :11:28.bagel. CHEERING

:11:29. > :11:56.Did it actually get a lead? He joins Federer on seven aces this

:11:57. > :12:03.match. CROWD SHOUTING.

:12:04. > :12:46.LAUGHTER So, if you are just joining us, this

:12:47. > :12:47.is Marcus Willis, the man who has been dominating the headlines at

:12:48. > :13:06.Wimbledon. 25 years old.

:13:07. > :13:10.SUE BARKER: I am very sorry we have come to the end of this game on BBC

:13:11. > :13:15.One, but this match continues over on BBC Two. Just before we leave on

:13:16. > :13:18.BBC One, we can bring you one result from Court Number One, because

:13:19. > :13:23.thankfully the rain has moved away, and play continues outside.

:13:24. > :13:26.Britain's joke Konta who is seeded here for the first time has come

:13:27. > :13:35.through against a very difficult opponent, Monica Puig. That is

:13:36. > :13:43.Johanna Konta's first match when here at Wimbledon, so well done to

:13:44. > :13:46.her. So, she is through an Court Number One, everyone is watching

:13:47. > :13:50.Marcus Willis on Centre Court, he has been the story of the

:13:51. > :13:53.Championships so far, and we have more tennis to bring you an Centre

:13:54. > :13:57.Court and outside over on BBC Two. Goodbye.
