:00:38. > :00:46.Good at noon, and welcome to viewers on BBC Two to Wimbledon on day

:00:47. > :00:50.three. The weather isn't being kind to others. Some play getting

:00:51. > :00:53.underway, but other matches have been postponed already, it is all

:00:54. > :00:57.down to the players and whether they want to continue or not. We've

:00:58. > :01:03.already had some heavy rain here this morning, and more showers

:01:04. > :01:08.forecast, so it'll be one of those difficult days at Wimbledon. We have

:01:09. > :01:11.the roof on Centre Court, and that is wonderful because we are

:01:12. > :01:16.guaranteed play through the afternoon. And play is getting

:01:17. > :01:24.underway in just a moment. And we've got three incredible matches to look

:01:25. > :01:29.forward to, starting with Agnieszka Radwanska, then it is Novak

:01:30. > :01:41.Djokovic, the defending champion, against a man whose birthday it is,

:01:42. > :01:44.Manor -- Mannarino, and then Marcus Willis, who won his first round to

:01:45. > :01:51.take on Roger Federer. That is lost on centre. Caught one will be

:01:52. > :01:55.affected by the weather, and no weather, Monica Puig to continue him

:01:56. > :02:01.much against Jo Konta, who is seeded for the first time, and Konta was a

:02:02. > :02:11.net excellent form, 6-1, 2-1, she leads against Puig, and then it is

:02:12. > :02:14.Grigor Dimitrov against my loss Raonic, who has John McEnroe as his

:02:15. > :02:25.coach -- my loss Dan Evans will take on Alexander

:02:26. > :02:35.Dolgopolov, Heather Watson has started her match, she's up against

:02:36. > :02:39.Annika Beck, and the other match. The roof is of, and these are the

:02:40. > :02:46.scenes at the minutes ago. The former runner up here, Agnieszka

:02:47. > :02:49.Radwanska, seeded number three, up against Kateryna Kozlova, who is

:02:50. > :02:51.playing in her first ever Wimbledon. What a way to start.

:02:52. > :03:05.APPLAUSE Radwanska knows her way around the

:03:06. > :03:10.Centre Court, former runner up, she was a semifinalist last year, seeded

:03:11. > :03:14.three up against a player ranked 97 in the world. She is always tough on

:03:15. > :03:21.all services. That is the match we will be joining on Centre Court.

:03:22. > :03:25.Everyone else trying get some practice in between the showers.

:03:26. > :03:28.Roger Federer has been arriving here this morning, we've seen Marcus

:03:29. > :03:35.Willis's opponent arrived early. Roger taking it easy. He has arrived

:03:36. > :03:40.here and out on the practice court. Andrew Castle is with me. It is

:03:41. > :03:45.tough to get some practice. Anything is good, you have to go through the

:03:46. > :03:52.gears gently, not worry if you have to go indoors. You might want to hit

:03:53. > :03:57.one or two more shots. Sharing a courtroom Marin Cilic, everyone

:03:58. > :04:07.trying to get on for that not enough. Some people get touchy about

:04:08. > :04:14.that. Just easing the body into it, little bit adjustment required. It

:04:15. > :04:18.is one of those days when you want to have some shirts on stand-by. No

:04:19. > :04:23.great panics, certainly not for those playing on Centre Court like

:04:24. > :04:27.Roger. His concern maybe, who is this person I am playing crash Mark

:04:28. > :04:36.there was a wonderful quote, how many matches he has, he only has

:04:37. > :04:46.one. These are live pictures, and Roger out there. He does not know

:04:47. > :04:54.what to expect, but markers, we call him the Willbomb, because he has a

:04:55. > :04:58.great shot. He was asked what advantages he has over Roger. He

:04:59. > :05:06.said people have any seen him play one match. Roger was playing in the

:05:07. > :05:10.US, and got a Snickers bar out of his bag. Those days are gone for

:05:11. > :05:14.Roger was he will take it seriously. He will take it as seriously as he

:05:15. > :05:18.does every other contest because Marcus Willis is a man to be

:05:19. > :05:23.respected. He has great talent. The idea of going on Centre Court

:05:24. > :05:28.against a seven time champion, markers will adore it for supper he

:05:29. > :05:36.won't be overwhelmed. Certainly a big day for Marcus Willis. It is the

:05:37. > :05:44.story of the day. I love the T-shirt with the London bus with SWR 19. He

:05:45. > :05:49.loves this place. This place as a brand and a postcode, and this plays

:05:50. > :05:54.is fantastic to play tennis. Roger loves it as much as anybody to stop

:05:55. > :05:58.we love watching him play. We do not know how longer he will be a force

:05:59. > :06:04.at the top. He hasn't played too many matches, he's been injured. You

:06:05. > :06:08.want to play him in a first round, not second. You want to play him at

:06:09. > :06:16.the he's been injured. He didn't play at the French Open, and then he

:06:17. > :06:24.lost to the band coming German. It was the youngest guy he had lost a

:06:25. > :06:30.bit -- lost two in a number of years. He was running a bath for his

:06:31. > :06:37.kid and hurt his knee. He had to have an operation, a little tear.

:06:38. > :06:41.And he's had the back problems. You can't go on for ever, even though

:06:42. > :06:46.you play with great economy and with this wonderful fluidity, your body

:06:47. > :06:50.does start paying the price eventually. Perhaps we are seeing

:06:51. > :06:55.the beginning of it now so I hope he plays for another 20 years, because

:06:56. > :07:00.I can watch any day. He makes it look so easy. His code will have

:07:01. > :07:07.been doing the scouting on his opponent. He is a tactician and a

:07:08. > :07:12.hard man. And another bright guy, an intelligent one, and will tell Roger

:07:13. > :07:16.what he needs to know about markers. He is left-handed, and he has eight

:07:17. > :07:24.by Bill is serve, and he plays a lot of drop volleys.

:07:25. > :07:32.Here is markers, he is leaving the practice courts. Having to sign his

:07:33. > :07:38.autograph now, he is becoming a star. It is one of these things,

:07:39. > :07:43.Roger will sign one or two, because there is a corridor which goes

:07:44. > :07:48.underneath atonal from the practice facility to the broadcast centre.

:07:49. > :07:53.You might sign one or two and get down those stairs. Roger might sign

:07:54. > :07:57.one or two because he is a big man. Markers might be well advised to

:07:58. > :08:01.move on and find his own space, maybe take 15 minutes before the

:08:02. > :08:05.match to calm his own mind and go into his own world. The destruction

:08:06. > :08:09.of Centre Court and the distractions are being centre of attention, when

:08:10. > :08:13.it hits you, it can be sick of again. We were talking to markers

:08:14. > :08:20.about going on to Centre Court, and we heard he went on to there. I

:08:21. > :08:27.remember the first time, it is the backdrop, it is so big. The court

:08:28. > :08:32.felt so small. I remember Court Number One, he went from Centre

:08:33. > :08:36.Court changing room, we went from being indoors between centre and

:08:37. > :08:40.one, and then you are merged and see this mass of West and people with

:08:41. > :08:47.all the colours and sunshine. The first thing I did was screened my

:08:48. > :08:54.eyes and tripped over the grass. A portent of things to come but I did

:08:55. > :08:59.and see the grass. Roger Taylor said, head down, don't look at the

:09:00. > :09:05.crowd. I think he will do different. When he walked out on court 16, he

:09:06. > :09:13.was chanting with his friends in the corner, he was almost doing a dance.

:09:14. > :09:18.I think he will embrace it and make almost it fun. When you emerge on

:09:19. > :09:25.December court, that is a different ball game stop we will see if can

:09:26. > :09:31.put one foot into the other. -- on Centre Court. I almost did a curtsy.

:09:32. > :09:39.McEnroe said his knees were knocking. I was playing on Court

:09:40. > :09:47.Number One on centre. When you met before the two show courts there,

:09:48. > :09:55.Chrissie Evatt was the. She looked at me and said, it will be OK. It

:09:56. > :10:00.was her saying it to me. Marcus is playing Roger Federer, not just on

:10:01. > :10:05.centre, against our Lord Rodger. It will be fascinating to watch. It is

:10:06. > :10:10.a real highlight. Did you win your first match crash Mark I did. And

:10:11. > :10:17.she was one of the people I looked up to. She had retired and come

:10:18. > :10:25.back. She was world number one in 1959, and you were not bad. She

:10:26. > :10:31.wasn't at her peak, I need to say. Well, we are going to Centre Court

:10:32. > :10:35.in just a moment because, as we saw, Radwanska Kozlova are on court, but

:10:36. > :10:42.let's show you what is happening here, and the covers are on, so

:10:43. > :10:46.Tomic is 5-3 in his match against Fernando Verdasco, but they have had

:10:47. > :10:52.to go off. This is on Court number 18, just a few moments ago, Tomas

:10:53. > :10:58.Berdych, the former finalist come up against Ivan Dodig, he served for

:10:59. > :11:04.the match in this time no mistake. He won that in a tie-break, so 7-6

:11:05. > :11:07.in the fourth set, there were match point, so Tomas Berdych going in for

:11:08. > :11:11.set against Ivan Dodig, and they stayed on the court, even when the

:11:12. > :11:17.rain was coming down. Both players wanted to stay on and finish it, and

:11:18. > :11:20.Tomas Berdych has come through. That was a treat for the players, but I

:11:21. > :11:24.see the ground staff running on so the net was coming down, the covers

:11:25. > :11:29.were coming on and everyone will have to sit and wait yet again.

:11:30. > :11:34.Which means that the only court now that we can focus on is Centre

:11:35. > :11:41.Court, and we saw the players going out there, select go and join that,

:11:42. > :11:47.it is the former runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska against Kateryna Kozlova.

:11:48. > :11:52.They are about to go, is alleged to our commentators, Lindsay Davenport

:11:53. > :12:00.alongside Matt Chilton. Good afternoon, Centre Court is covered

:12:01. > :12:05.by folding fabric roof, and the players are warm and dry, and

:12:06. > :12:14.Radwanska from Poland just applying that sticky material to her hands.

:12:15. > :12:18.Give her a better grip on her racket. Her opponent, Kateryna

:12:19. > :12:24.Kozlova from Ukraine is not a full house, but it will be as the

:12:25. > :12:30.afternoon unfolds. At the moment there is plenty of space on Centre

:12:31. > :12:35.Court. Lindsay Davenport, former champion, is beside me, as the

:12:36. > :12:37.players prepared to get this first rounds match underway. It will be

:12:38. > :12:48.Radwanska to serve. LINDSAY DAVENPORT: These are perfect

:12:49. > :12:53.conditions for Radwanska, her favoured service is the grass, and

:12:54. > :12:55.when the group is close, it makes it easier for Agnieszka Radwanska to

:12:56. > :13:15.play her style of tennis. Nice aggressive tennis from Kozlova,

:13:16. > :13:19.that will settle the nerves. The nerves have to be flowing in

:13:20. > :13:22.Kozlova, just the second Grand Slam of her career, and it is on Centre

:13:23. > :13:51.Court at Wimbledon. Oh, what a start from Kozlova! A

:13:52. > :13:54.perfectly measured point, and Kozlova will have some time to play

:13:55. > :14:07.her style of aggressive baseline tennis. Agnieszka does not play it

:14:08. > :14:28.that hard. But she plated it so well. -- places.

:14:29. > :14:35.A tricky start for Radwanska, Kozlova gets a break point in the

:14:36. > :14:42.first game of this first round match. Scheduled to be played

:14:43. > :15:34.yesterday, but rain delayed until the first Wednesday.

:15:35. > :15:43.Radwanska is going to make Kozlova hit a lots of balls today, with

:15:44. > :15:45.different paces, different spins, Agnieszka with some of the best

:15:46. > :16:32.hands in women's tennis. Well, Kozlova will be pretty happy

:16:33. > :16:37.with that star, despite the first error, she attended to double drop

:16:38. > :16:45.Radwanska, who should be happy with the way things have gone. Her coach

:16:46. > :16:53.front right with her fist on her chin. Gripped by what has gone on so

:16:54. > :16:58.far, and plenty more to compass up and her family and friends behind.

:16:59. > :17:01.And there is the Radwanska's box, with her coach heading partners stop

:17:02. > :17:14.and hit coach. Kozlova's first service game, let's

:17:15. > :17:39.see if she can get this done. See how Kozlova handles now serving,

:17:40. > :17:42.sometimes the nerves, they can reveal themselves in the serve of

:17:43. > :17:47.certain players. This is the biggest match of this young lady's career so

:17:48. > :18:04.far. And on the biggest stage in tennis.

:18:05. > :18:12.You won't get many of those from Agnieszka Radwanska, unforced

:18:13. > :18:30.errors, her totals from sets normally are four, maybe five.

:18:31. > :18:37.Hoping to finish the point of quickly there, and heading to the

:18:38. > :18:43.crosscourt backhand winner. It was way of target, she is already

:18:44. > :18:58.playing three unforced errors, 15-30.

:18:59. > :19:17.The crowd getting Bataille into. APPLAUSE

:19:18. > :19:25.-- getting Bataille and hurt. Two break points.

:19:26. > :19:31.That would be helpful to Kozlova, first serve as effective, with some

:19:32. > :19:59.nice placement. This looks good. Well left by

:20:00. > :20:07.Radwanska. Terrific judgment about. There is the first break of serve.

:20:08. > :20:11.It is always a tough way to lose your first service game, two double

:20:12. > :20:19.fault, and unforced errors, and a point she should have and could have

:20:20. > :20:24.won, Kozlova. But Aga, she is so tough to put a bull against, she

:20:25. > :20:52.moves so well around the court and wonderful anticipation -- ball.

:20:53. > :21:05.Oh, it has come up short again. Right idea, unfortunately for

:21:06. > :21:13.Kozlova, the execution what is let her down. She was pulled wide,

:21:14. > :21:15.Kozlova just hit that half-volley, wasn't ready for it to come back

:21:16. > :22:01.that hard. Oh, I love the. Longest rally, 19

:22:02. > :22:08.strokes. A little bit Radwanska magic. It is a perfect point from

:22:09. > :22:13.Radwanska, you so cut saw all of her shots, a deep slice, drop shot, but

:22:14. > :22:21.see how smart she is to follow that ball into the net, looking to take

:22:22. > :22:31.it as if the as possible. -- is the as She is not playing the wind. Not

:22:32. > :23:25.today. Yes. Another marathon rally. And

:23:26. > :23:29.that last rally, 20 shots. I get the feeling there will be a lot of

:23:30. > :23:37.quick, easy points in this match. Both these players are very

:23:38. > :23:39.consistent of the ground. Kozlova is competitive, just does not have the

:23:40. > :24:22.finishing touch. Some great play from Kozlova. If she

:24:23. > :24:28.gets an opportunity to move forward with a short ball, she should take

:24:29. > :24:30.it and not hesitate. It is so tough to hit passing shots on grass, time

:24:31. > :24:49.and time again. That is the kind of return you can't

:24:50. > :25:32.miss. Second serve, 75 mph. Kozlova considered the challenge,

:25:33. > :25:33.but in the end accepted the control, and Radwanska is off to a flying

:25:34. > :25:49.start. So, 13 minutes of play, and a decent

:25:50. > :25:54.start for Agnieszka Radwanska, but she has had to work hard for some of

:25:55. > :26:04.the point, they have been long and arduous, 15, 16, 20 strokes the

:26:05. > :26:11.longest. So if she, she will get a lot of cheap points, she will have

:26:12. > :26:19.to think again. Gemma Arterton is among the guests in the rural box

:26:20. > :26:29.this afternoon. She is sitting next to Roger Federer's father, and his

:26:30. > :26:34.mother is one along in the pink top. Next to the chairman of the

:26:35. > :26:38.All-England Club. A couple matches early for their son. Won't make it

:26:39. > :26:44.out until later today, but enjoying the Royal box. It looks like the

:26:45. > :26:50.sweets are being passed around. Why not? It is the role Highness, Prince

:26:51. > :27:50.of Kent in the Royal box. -- Royal. Stunning from Radwanska. Radwanska

:27:51. > :27:55.is the type of player you could put a tiny coin on the court and within

:27:56. > :27:56.two or three shots, she would hit it, that is how precise her aim is

:27:57. > :28:32.of the ground. Kozlova has a night looking game,

:28:33. > :28:37.technically her strokes are sound, it seems the occasion is just

:28:38. > :28:43.overwhelming her, little bit of tension in her, due to many unforced

:28:44. > :28:51.errors. Radwanska puts an awful lot of slice and spin on that backhand.

:28:52. > :28:55.And especially in an error where how many plays do that, not many like to

:28:56. > :29:03.hit a lot of slice. It is not a common playing stout

:29:04. > :29:33.these days. -- playing style. Oh, that is with a challenge, I

:29:34. > :29:37.think. I wonder how often she has played with the Hawk-Eye system

:29:38. > :29:44.available to her was ready, I would imagine. Exactly, not often, it is

:29:45. > :29:46.just on the main show courts around the world. Another opportunity for

:29:47. > :30:06.Radwanska to break serve. That is racing away with the opening

:30:07. > :30:14.set, in just 17 minutes. She has got herself to a lead of 4-0. Under the

:30:15. > :30:23.roof of Wimbledon Centre Court, cruising so far. Kozlova needs a

:30:24. > :30:37.game alongside her name, just to get a foothold in this first set.

:30:38. > :30:47.Radwanska would like this double-checked. We will see if it

:30:48. > :30:55.had another top spent to drop in, and it did, just off the line.

:30:56. > :30:57.That'll at least have reminded Kateryna Kozlova the challenge

:30:58. > :31:40.system is here to be used. Exactly. And a a the allegedly going to

:31:41. > :31:45.border. -- you get the sense that this could be a very competitive

:31:46. > :31:49.match. An excellent young player, Kozlova, just has not been able to

:31:50. > :31:52.play her best because of the occasion. A decent server from

:31:53. > :32:23.Radwanska, 102 mph down the centre. Now she is a little more fired up.

:32:24. > :32:27.Two break points. Great anticipation of the short ball getting up to that

:32:28. > :32:44.in another time. I loved the acceleration on contact.

:32:45. > :33:03.Double fault and a break of serve. Kateryna Kozlova is in this match.

:33:04. > :33:14.Agnieszka Radwanska, third in the WTA rankings now. This according to

:33:15. > :33:19.the various stats that we can accumulate and analyse, is because

:33:20. > :33:23.of her magnificent return of serve. Such great anticipation when

:33:24. > :33:28.returning serve, and again she can put it anywhere she wants to with

:33:29. > :33:33.great depth in that return. The second on tour in breaking server.

:33:34. > :33:40.Almost 60% of returning second serve points. And she almost needs to

:33:41. > :33:45.because of her own serve, it is not that strong. But she has absolutely

:33:46. > :33:52.perfected her return game and that has made her one of the best players

:33:53. > :33:57.on the WTA. She also has that unique crouching forehand that she plays.

:33:58. > :34:06.We have not seen it much in evidence so far this afternoon. But I think

:34:07. > :34:15.we will get a few. Tim Hammond's father is in the Royal box. -- Tim

:34:16. > :34:16.Henman's father. He is in the members seating, I am told, not the

:34:17. > :34:45.Royal box. Just a little slice of good fortune.

:34:46. > :35:11.The lob was well executed. She looks so much more comfortable

:35:12. > :35:20.right now, on this occasion, Kozlov. Just a few moments ago she had twice

:35:21. > :35:24.as many unforced errors. Now she has cut down on some of the loose

:35:25. > :35:54.errors, focusing on playing aggressive tennis.

:35:55. > :36:43.Too good. Radwanska having to sidestep the umpires chair.

:36:44. > :36:50.Kozlova serves out to love, a further boost to her confidence.

:36:51. > :36:56.Such a sigh of relief when you are able to hold serve for the first

:36:57. > :37:03.time. She still manages to run for the drop shot, avoiding the stairs

:37:04. > :37:04.and the umpire stand with brace. -- with grace. Such a fantastic

:37:05. > :37:37.athlete. It feels like this match has

:37:38. > :37:40.completely turned in the last few minutes, with no question that

:37:41. > :37:42.Kozlova is a completely different player than she was at the start of

:37:43. > :38:16.this match. Typical Radwanska, able to raise the

:38:17. > :38:25.level of her game. Kozlova is forcing her to do that right now.

:38:26. > :38:35.The first stage of the match. -- the first ace of the match. Also,

:38:36. > :38:39.Radwanska's hardest serve of the match. She does not get it much

:38:40. > :38:40.harder than that in the court. She goes for consistency rather than

:38:41. > :38:55.pace. Good defence but all she could do

:38:56. > :39:44.was hoisted up for a comfortable finish.

:39:45. > :39:51.Radwanska moves to within a game of sealing the opening set.

:39:52. > :40:00.After 27 minutes of play, cause liver has settled her nerves and he

:40:01. > :40:07.started to contribute greatly to the entertainment of this match. --

:40:08. > :40:13.Kozlova has settled her nerves. She is making this match much more

:40:14. > :40:18.competitive. It is mainly nerves that were affecting her at the

:40:19. > :40:22.beginning. It is very intimidating, this court, to come onto and play

:40:23. > :40:30.just her second grand slam singles match. And after every change of

:40:31. > :40:41.end, she is playing in front of even more spectators. The Arena capacity,

:40:42. > :40:45.15,000. Starting to fail. Such an odd feeling when you know that

:40:46. > :40:59.everyone has their eye on this match.

:41:00. > :41:05.A little extra pressure now for Kateryna Kozlova, whose coach has

:41:06. > :41:08.been gripped throughout, has not taken her eyes off her player. New

:41:09. > :42:02.balls may help. Kozlova set yourself up beautifully

:42:03. > :42:06.for a second short ball, she wants to continue setting yourself up for

:42:07. > :42:13.aggressive tennis, going after their chances against Radwanska.

:42:14. > :42:52.A bit of lucky accuracy on her length. Radwanska couple of points

:42:53. > :43:39.away from the opening set. Radwanska's coach on the bottom left

:43:40. > :43:41.has been working with Aga five years now. She used to spend a lot of time

:43:42. > :43:48.with her father as her coach. He really helped Aga take her game

:43:49. > :44:49.to another level. The ball tangled up at her feet.

:44:50. > :45:28.After 32 minutes, the number three seed has a set point.

:45:29. > :45:43.A good way to finish. Spectacular tennis. Radwanska takes the opening

:45:44. > :46:01.set. 6-2. Saving the best for last, Aga.

:46:02. > :46:08.Started really well, then faced a more competitive opponent in the

:46:09. > :46:12.middle of the set. No question, the quality got better towards the

:46:13. > :46:16.latter stages of that second set. As we have seen so often, Aga able to

:46:17. > :46:32.lift the level of her game without opponent. The second serve points

:46:33. > :46:37.won, just 25%. That number has to be a lot higher for Kozlova. On the

:46:38. > :46:43.flip side, Aga doing a great job defending her second serve. A few

:46:44. > :46:48.more unforced errors from Radwanska than we're used to seeing. A very

:46:49. > :47:18.solid set from the number three seed.

:47:19. > :47:22.Radwanska has the added advantage of serving at the start of set number

:47:23. > :47:37.two, leading one love. -- 1-0. There is no doubt that Kozlova is

:47:38. > :47:40.going to have to really attempt to go for these big shots. And hope

:47:41. > :48:04.that it works out. Especially on grass, grass really

:48:05. > :48:08.rewards and aggressive mindset. Kozlova just needs a little bit more

:48:09. > :48:15.pace and purpose with shots to put herself in an position more. -- in

:48:16. > :48:28.an offensive position. It takes something special to be one

:48:29. > :48:33.of the players at the top of the game, to play one of your best

:48:34. > :48:37.matches. But a lot of times you have to take a lot of risk and have the

:48:38. > :48:49.courage to go for your shots and go for the win. One of the best players

:48:50. > :48:53.on tour who has not won a grand slam title. She has been in the final of

:48:54. > :49:25.Wimbledon. Oliver skills in evidence there.

:49:26. > :49:32.Radwanska resetting that point with a one-handed volley. Right here, she

:49:33. > :49:39.got it high over the net, to give herself time to get back. A little

:49:40. > :50:22.pirouette as well. Unbelievable athleticism from Radwanska.

:50:23. > :50:45.Radwanska taking a few extra seconds before she prepares to serve here.

:50:46. > :51:04.What a time for one offer better. Radwanska spending a little bit more

:51:05. > :51:08.time with that serve. You mentioned one of the best players to have not

:51:09. > :51:26.won a grand slam. Do you think she gets one? She deserves one.

:51:27. > :52:19.In behind her opponent. Terrific spatial awareness from Radwanska.

:52:20. > :52:25.Kateryna Kozlova preparing to serve. Her first service game of the second

:52:26. > :52:42.set. Started little slowly, the start of

:52:43. > :52:46.the opening set was tricky but she got used to the big stage. She has

:52:47. > :52:54.never played on a grass court a roof on such a prestigious sporting

:52:55. > :53:08.arena. She settled down, playing some big shots. She made Radwanska

:53:09. > :53:13.work for that opening set. No question that level of tennis has

:53:14. > :53:21.been much higher from these two since the first two games. Nice to

:53:22. > :53:23.see this young lady settled down and play some very good tennis against

:53:24. > :53:59.one of the world's best. SUE BARKER: We're leaving this match

:54:00. > :54:04.on BBC Two because it now continues live over on BBC One. Ten this

:54:05. > :54:09.afternoon on Centre Court continues now over on BBC One. -- tennis this

:54:10. > :54:12.afternoon. More tennis for you in just a moment but outside you can

:54:13. > :54:16.see the roof is closed on Centre Court but the covers are an

:54:17. > :54:21.all-around Wimbledon. No immediate prospect of play, I am sorry to say.

:54:22. > :54:25.No umbrellas up at the moment, it is going through a bit of a dry spell

:54:26. > :54:29.but they are not risking taking the covers off until they can have a

:54:30. > :54:33.long enough period of dry weather to get the players back onto court.

:54:34. > :54:39.Some umbrellas are still up on Henman Hill but they are enjoying

:54:40. > :54:43.watching it on the big screen. Hopefully we will get some play on

:54:44. > :54:48.the outside court for these very patient spectators. Of course Centre

:54:49. > :54:52.Court will feature for us this man as the main attraction, Marcus

:54:53. > :54:58.Willis. We had not heard of them before, he is Britain's number 23,

:54:59. > :55:01.ranked 772 in the world. But he has come through seven matches and he is

:55:02. > :55:05.on the front page of most of the papers. An incredible story of how

:55:06. > :55:09.he almost gave up, and was courage to come back because his girlfriend

:55:10. > :55:15.said, give it one more chance. And here he is, on Centre Court, playing

:55:16. > :55:18.Roger Federer. The best story I can remember here at Wimbledon. And

:55:19. > :55:22.certainly looking very relaxed. You would not believe he is taking on

:55:23. > :55:26.the great Roger later. And your ears, having to share a court with

:55:27. > :55:31.Marin Cilic because of the rain, doubling up on the practice courts,

:55:32. > :55:35.trying to get their feet on the grass, to get ready for the matches.

:55:36. > :55:40.Looking very relaxed. He has been there before, hasn't he? The seven

:55:41. > :55:48.time champion taking on a player ranked 772. It is a wonderful story.

:55:49. > :55:52.And everyone is going to watch the matches because that is the only

:55:53. > :55:56.tennis that they are seeing at the moment. The big screen is certainly

:55:57. > :56:00.a welcome attraction here at Wimbledon and a very popular

:56:01. > :56:04.attraction. Everyone making their way to Henman Hill. But when I said

:56:05. > :56:11.I had some tennis for you, one match was played today out on Court 18,

:56:12. > :56:15.and Tomas Berdych was able to finish off his match in the fourth set,

:56:16. > :56:22.winning the tie-break 7-2 against Ivan Dodig of Croatia. The former

:56:23. > :56:28.runner-up here, Tomas Berdych is through to the second round where he

:56:29. > :56:33.will face Benjamin Becker. That was the last match on Court when

:56:34. > :56:40.everyone else had scurried off to the locker room to complete their

:56:41. > :56:52.match. One other result, this match, they came back at 5-1 and Andrea

:56:53. > :56:59.Pekovic from Germany won 6-2, with just three games played today.

:57:00. > :57:06.Through to the final sent. -- the final set. This is Court number two,

:57:07. > :57:09.where they are patiently waiting for tennis to continue. We will show you

:57:10. > :57:13.what happened on that court earlier today because this match was held

:57:14. > :57:16.over from last night between Fernando Verdasco, quarterfinalist

:57:17. > :57:21.here in 2013, up against Bernard Tomic, thrilled that this match was

:57:22. > :57:26.held over because he was struggling with fatigue in the fourth set. We

:57:27. > :57:29.join it at the start of the fifth set. Verdasco serving and in the

:57:30. > :57:57.commentary box, Mark Petchey and Paul hand.

:57:58. > :58:08.Not the start that he was looking for. Apart from the weather and the

:58:09. > :58:12.rain, they have had to contend with, the one thing that is evident around

:58:13. > :58:15.the grounds today is the winter. It has been blowing a gale. Some of the

:58:16. > :58:32.courts more protected but not easy. And somebody that has a very

:58:33. > :58:36.unpredictable ball toss at times as well. This could be problematic for

:58:37. > :59:00.further skill. -- for Verdasco. He missed the return but you could

:59:01. > :59:07.already see tour match jogging to the other side. -- Bernard Tomic.

:59:08. > :59:14.Trying to make sure a similar thing does not happen today. Things are

:59:15. > :59:15.still happening for further skill. He will be delighted with that one.

:59:16. > :59:39.A timely ace. As anticipated, yesterday was full

:59:40. > :59:41.of ups and downs for both players. Neither could grab the reins and run

:59:42. > :59:51.with it for long. At the start of this climatic fifth

:59:52. > :00:11.set, a very similar vein. That is an opportunity for the

:00:12. > :00:16.Australian, which has got away from him, and untidy start from Verdasco

:00:17. > :00:22.early on in that game, a couple of clean serves to finish it off, and

:00:23. > :00:28.he takes a 1-0 lead. He has been serving more effectively than Tomic,

:00:29. > :00:34.he has hit 24 aces in the match, as opposed to ten from Tomic, which is

:00:35. > :00:40.still respectable. Bernard is also very effective of his first serve,

:00:41. > :00:44.winning 79% of the points in doing so, for Tomic, it is about landing

:00:45. > :01:02.this first serve, it is so important to him.

:01:03. > :01:09.Verdasco was a bit hesitant there, he rolled that approach rather than

:01:10. > :01:37.thrashing at it, which he was doing dismissively yesterday.

:01:38. > :01:40.Sloppy footwork around that forehand, going with the hand

:01:41. > :01:51.skills. A bit unlucky, but that was a

:01:52. > :02:33.positive point from Verdasco. He looks or wired, doesn't he? So

:02:34. > :02:55.focused, Tomic. There is a classic case of a player

:02:56. > :03:00.like the bus go, who is proficient -- like Verdasco. He is not looking

:03:01. > :03:02.to coming, and he was hesitant in getting up to that ball, he wasn't

:03:03. > :03:14.looking for it. He is aware, we sought yesterday if

:03:15. > :03:20.he can get that there's striking with authority, he has the upper

:03:21. > :03:24.hand, because Tomic is not that explosive with his movement, there

:03:25. > :03:30.is a hesitancy in that. Throughout all of yesterday as well, using his

:03:31. > :03:38.visual skills and hand skills to get the ball as quickly as he can. Oh,

:03:39. > :03:42.that was from the top drawer. He was right off the court, outside of the

:03:43. > :03:45.alley and knew he had to pull the trigger down the line. Look at that,

:03:46. > :04:09.slaps it into the corner. Oh, boy. How did he even have a

:04:10. > :04:15.chance to hit the past? It was an awful drop shot, but Verdasco was

:04:16. > :04:22.tentative, some real nerves on court to. Big moment for both players. And

:04:23. > :04:27.the Verdasco guilty of guessing with the feet, and he is dragging his

:04:28. > :04:32.butt on the grass. Maybe indicating he deals it was slippy -- dragging

:04:33. > :04:49.his foot. He goes on to win it, that forehand

:04:50. > :04:56.down the line maybe the reason he does it because he was under

:04:57. > :05:00.pressure, but survives it. There is a hesitant serving from Tomic, but

:05:01. > :05:04.Verdasco not warmed up enough to take advantage from it. Having to

:05:05. > :05:09.deal with a lot of back behind from the Australian. Deadlock again in

:05:10. > :06:00.this climatic finish. And it gets a glancing blow for the

:06:01. > :06:28.ball boy at the other end. An entirely different service game

:06:29. > :06:39.for Verdasco second time around. In this fifth and deciding set, as he

:06:40. > :06:45.holds to love. And I guess for the neutrals, that was the perfect

:06:46. > :06:49.opening games in many ways, just picks up the pressure and intrigue.

:06:50. > :06:55.Very much, it was encouraging for all Spanish fans, that love hold,

:06:56. > :07:00.and because Verdasco is leading in the set, the sit down puts more

:07:01. > :07:05.pressure on to the Australian. It is a must hold service game for Bernard

:07:06. > :07:11.Tomic. Tough moments for him. He wrestled with his opening service

:07:12. > :07:16.game, he is having far from his own way, up against it momentum wise. It

:07:17. > :07:19.seems Verdasco, since the resumption, has continued on well

:07:20. > :07:29.from where he left off late yesterday. Tomic talking about how

:07:30. > :07:35.confident he was in terms of the results, at Queen's, but could get

:07:36. > :07:39.derailed here on the third day of Wimbledon if he can't put away

:07:40. > :07:41.Verdasco. That is a nervous looking farther, he is not looking as if he

:07:42. > :08:05.is sure where it is going. Nicely done. That was very

:08:06. > :08:10.encouraging. We haven't seen Tomic going to the net, but when he does

:08:11. > :08:33.it is effective, because he is six foot five.

:08:34. > :08:42.Some of those perceived faults, Kyrgios and Tomic of court, the one

:08:43. > :08:50.thing you have to say on court is they play nice and quick.

:08:51. > :08:59.No hanging around, and Verdasco lands a double handed down the line,

:09:00. > :09:20.gone across court mostly, but this time he catches Tomic unaware.

:09:21. > :09:31.Sweet play, greater use of the court and the angles. It is nonchalant,

:09:32. > :09:34.brilliant from Tomic, finding an angle with pace, finally, he is so

:09:35. > :09:40.good at getting out of those tight situations. Just when he thought

:09:41. > :09:50.Verdasco had the momentum in the point, snuffed out by the

:09:51. > :09:58.Australian. Mr by a considerable distance this. Under pressure at

:09:59. > :10:11.deuce. The forehand of Verdasco has come

:10:12. > :10:20.and gone a lot, he needs to get it on.

:10:21. > :10:31.UMPIRE: The ball was called in. Has he managed to take a piece of

:10:32. > :10:38.the line with that serve? No surprise Verdasco has gone to the

:10:39. > :10:46.challenge, but I did know if Hawk-Eye is a little sodden at the

:10:47. > :10:50.moment. There is a delay. Won't be the first time it doesn't come up,

:10:51. > :10:57.but we will get a definite answer from them, we may just not get the

:10:58. > :11:09.replay. If it doesn't perform, they go with the call, right? Yes. If it

:11:10. > :11:19.is not functioning. UMPIRE: Game, Tomic. Verdasco quite

:11:20. > :11:25.accepting, because he wants to get on with things. In his heart, he

:11:26. > :11:57.knew it was on, so called stand, still nothing between them.

:11:58. > :12:04.An excellent return, because of how flat he had said, Tomic, that

:12:05. > :12:09.slipping off the court service, and Verdasco having to try the $1

:12:10. > :12:31.million shot, but didn't produce it, didn't have an other option.

:12:32. > :12:39.We talked about it a lot yesterday, but that upright stance that Tomic

:12:40. > :12:43.has on the return just doesn't give him that kind of ability like a

:12:44. > :12:45.goalkeeper to dynamically throw himself one way, and that is why

:12:46. > :13:05.Verdasco, with 27 aces... Great shot from Tomic, though.

:13:06. > :13:10.Little more pace, but with that double hander, and again the

:13:11. > :13:15.flatness, they are low and uncomfortable for Verdasco.

:13:16. > :13:58.Australians eyeing the break of serve here.

:13:59. > :14:11.Outfoxed eventually, the Spaniard, latency would get out of this check,

:14:12. > :14:17.thrilled -- Lleyton Hewitt get out of his chair. It was a cagey rally.

:14:18. > :14:23.There was deliberation and it was lulling Verdasco, to say, go for

:14:24. > :14:28.something big, because I know how recklessly you can miss. This is how

:14:29. > :14:33.it ended right here. Verdasco, it was a lung busting point, but one in

:14:34. > :14:43.which Tomic took control. Good use of the heavy slice, that is down so

:14:44. > :14:50.low. Unable to dig it out. Because he is not someone looking to get in

:14:51. > :14:53.to the net, he hung around, you can see that ball was dipping for

:14:54. > :15:00.Verdasco, it was a nightmare, no pace. There is a man who has played

:15:01. > :15:07.big points in big situations as well as anyone else. The infamous come

:15:08. > :15:12.on, even when he is not playing. He has lost none of that passion and

:15:13. > :15:19.drive and burning spirit, Lleyton Hewitt, at all. Now that either will

:15:20. > :15:36.be brought into the Davis Cup for Australia. -- that fever might be

:15:37. > :15:47.worth a challenge. I haven't seen any more umbrellas going up, but

:15:48. > :15:57.certainly... Well, Tomic looking to perhaps think you should have got

:15:58. > :16:03.the point. I am not sure what he was waiting for confirmation for there.

:16:04. > :16:12.How well he used a second bite of the cherry.

:16:13. > :16:17.Two great service, the one prior to that one was 126, which was his

:16:18. > :16:40.equal fastest of the match. The conditions playing havoc for

:16:41. > :16:41.Tomic. It has been a feature of the deciding match, because the grass is

:16:42. > :17:11.a bit damp. Perhaps Verdasco was obscuring the

:17:12. > :17:43.judge there, there was no call. Well, he has won blast 4-macro he

:17:44. > :17:49.has played against the Spaniard, Tomic, and in the Austrian open in

:17:50. > :17:54.2012 he was two sets to love down, came back to win. In Queen's where

:17:55. > :17:59.he dropped the only set to win 6-4, and it looks like you may well edge

:18:00. > :18:03.of Verdasco once again. Again, we can see because of the heavy

:18:04. > :18:09.conditions and wet conditions, that a flat backhand from Tomic, which is

:18:10. > :18:12.considerably the flat is in the top 20, is coming at an uncomfortable

:18:13. > :18:34.height for Verdasco. There has been three unforced

:18:35. > :18:39.forehand from the Spaniard of late. That has been his major weapon

:18:40. > :18:42.alongside the big first serve. It is failing at the moment. He needs to

:18:43. > :18:59.get in touch with it. It is the sort of day amount of wind

:19:00. > :19:03.around, even though it doesn't look bad, you can see the shirt, it is

:19:04. > :19:14.deceptive, but when you swing hard, the chance of missing it is greatly

:19:15. > :19:19.increased. In many ways, it suits, as we said, that sort of sense of

:19:20. > :19:23.caution that Tomic plays this game with, compared to Verdasco, who does

:19:24. > :19:49.like to swing hard. Oh, to good. Where did that one come

:19:50. > :19:57.from? A real firecracker from Verdasco, and did he not need that?

:19:58. > :20:06.Tomic has been so frugal in error, playing a well disciplined match.

:20:07. > :20:12.Just why me thought he was on the cusp of the edge of the cliff, he

:20:13. > :20:24.bails out with a couple of wonderful, timely winners, Verdasco.

:20:25. > :20:28.Just drifting, perhaps even blown wide that, the defence of shot from

:20:29. > :20:39.Tomic. And possibly that is the first step

:20:40. > :20:42.for Verdasco in terms of a comeback year in the final set, it looked

:20:43. > :20:46.unlikely in the last game but he found some of his best tennis, the

:20:47. > :20:52.sort he was playing when he went opening set. Just to keep himself in

:20:53. > :20:58.contention, keep the pressure on the server. Tomic, to his credit, has

:20:59. > :21:04.been landing a lot of first serves. That is pivotal in his quest to get

:21:05. > :21:08.over the finishing line. When he opened out here at the start of the

:21:09. > :21:12.fifth set, he was missing a lot of first serves and putting himself in

:21:13. > :21:18.danger, and Verdasco hitting well. Just recently finding a lot of those

:21:19. > :21:22.first serves in, and it is really helping his cause. It is all about

:21:23. > :21:28.that, he looks measured and in control in these baseline matches,

:21:29. > :21:39.but Verdasco is dangerous work that fiery forehand. Play on here, but on

:21:40. > :21:44.a number of court they are taking the covers down, get those courts

:21:45. > :21:55.prepared. If you had a ticket book or two, you offer old, and glad you

:21:56. > :21:59.packed your jacket as well. Court 12 is about five metres to the left of

:22:00. > :22:09.this court, so that is eight microclimate and some.

:22:10. > :22:12.Will the pendulum swing, Added has done in a different direction this

:22:13. > :22:25.match? -- as it has done. What a recovery from Verdasco, deep

:22:26. > :22:46.on his baseline. The lead he established either

:22:47. > :23:07.operating for Tomic. -- either It is amazing, we seen this in this

:23:08. > :23:10.account, one man dips, the other risers simultaneously, and it has

:23:11. > :23:17.brought a level match as it consequence.

:23:18. > :23:25.Just as you believe Tomic had not done enough with that forehand

:23:26. > :23:30.approach, think again, he is very good. He has several ways to pick a

:23:31. > :23:38.lock, this man. Still work to do here, though.

:23:39. > :23:47.Just shepherding it out, but Verdasco has missed a trick on that

:23:48. > :23:52.return because it is his favourite serve on the outside, we talked

:23:53. > :23:57.about the technique, Tomic has a right, high shoulder, and he gave

:23:58. > :24:01.him that serve. A big sends you how to make him beat you with your worst

:24:02. > :24:18.served. He should have been camping there. -- a big sends you have to

:24:19. > :24:27.it was like he didn't want to go to the Verdasco forehand, but doing

:24:28. > :24:29.very well to get that point, the Australian. Verdasco hit and miss of

:24:30. > :24:44.that favoured forehand side. He has landed it, can you believe

:24:45. > :24:48.it? Wow it is a game which has had a bit of everything in it. It is not a

:24:49. > :25:05.bad slice at all, clean winner of it from Verdasco.

:25:06. > :25:13.Oh, that is something special. Thought perhaps he had given the

:25:14. > :25:18.game away, but the Australian could not exploited this time. It is one

:25:19. > :25:21.of those to the gold Verdasco rallies where it all comes off, and

:25:22. > :25:45.the break point opportunity. It is edge of the seat stuff, David

:25:46. > :25:51.Sanchez, one of Verdasco's two coaches, and Sanchez on the right in

:25:52. > :26:02.the blue top. Again, his favourite serve on the

:26:03. > :26:41.deuce side, just for Verdasco. What a game this is proving to be.

:26:42. > :26:42.Monumental. Tension in both camps, very, very evident. So tough to

:26:43. > :27:21.call. Again it is well played by Tomic,

:27:22. > :27:27.but he has been given an escape route by being allowed to wear bull

:27:28. > :27:35.play how he wants to play full stop Verdasco perhaps not putting enough

:27:36. > :27:40.pressure on. That was the 50s macro of this game, can he stick the knife

:27:41. > :28:03.in here. -- fifth ace. Oh, he has made it. And Tomic again,

:28:04. > :28:09.when he comes in a lot of the time, he guesses at one way or the other

:28:10. > :28:12.and I don't know if Verdasco saw him after his peripheral vision, but he

:28:13. > :28:33.picked the right side and keeps his slender hopes alive.

:28:34. > :28:40.He loves that of forehand, does Bernard Tomic. It has served him

:28:41. > :28:47.well in that point there. Lleyton Hewitt on the edge of his seat, as

:28:48. > :28:48.is his father, John, as well, captivated by this and crawling

:28:49. > :29:06.contest. -- nth Deuce number seven, can you believe

:29:07. > :29:35.it? Oh, that is so calmly done. Just using calm, Bernard Tomic,

:29:36. > :29:43.plainly off backhand volley with a sense of confidence. That is not

:29:44. > :29:48.really Verdasco's game at all, he created space for an easy forehand

:29:49. > :29:55.winner, and Verdasco is looking as if he doesn't want to play any more.

:29:56. > :29:59.He is sitting down, said that is it for the moment, and the supervisor

:30:00. > :30:11.is out. And this super visor decided play

:30:12. > :30:15.was suspended, so Tomic one game away from winning that opening

:30:16. > :30:21.round, so they can sit and wait and watch the rain. The good news is

:30:22. > :30:27.that play continues on centre, and Novak Djokovic, the world number

:30:28. > :30:31.one, is on court against Adrian Mannarino, and BBC One full stop we

:30:32. > :30:35.are coming off air, because we have no play to show you, but China is on

:30:36. > :30:43.BBC One, the big story of the day will feature this manner, Marcus

:30:44. > :30:48.Willis, he was facing Roger Federer. He is up against a great man, Roger

:30:49. > :31:02.Federer. That'll be later on BBC One. Even John McEnroe has been in

:31:03. > :31:20.press with his story. -- impressed. Let me tell you a story? Against the

:31:21. > :31:28.guy who has it all. Marcus Willis, Britain's number 23, against the

:31:29. > :31:33.greatest of all time. 17 slams, several of them right here. On

:31:34. > :31:43.paper, Willis does not have a chance. But trust me, he can play.

:31:44. > :31:46.His crew are behind him, and while the fairy tale last, he will love

:31:47. > :31:51.every minute. Centre Court, the greater stage for the biggest match

:31:52. > :31:57.of his life. Quite a story, don't you think and for now, the story

:31:58. > :32:02.continues. If you can keep your head when all of those are losing theirs

:32:03. > :32:03.and blaming it on you, you will be a man, my son.
