:00:42. > :00:47.Welcome to day 4-mac at Wimbledon. Yesterday on Centre Court we

:00:48. > :00:51.witnessed a much unique in so many ways. Fred Perry won the title be

:00:52. > :00:59.tough and stayed involved in tennis and commented here for many years

:01:00. > :01:02.and he would certainly have approved of the attitude that Marcus Willis

:01:03. > :01:07.brought to Centre Court yesterday as he took on Roger Federer. It was a

:01:08. > :01:13.match that reminded us all why we love sport so much. I was just a bit

:01:14. > :01:17.of a loser, overweight. He was a lovable rogue and not as

:01:18. > :01:25.professional as he could have been. I thought I could be better than

:01:26. > :01:35.this. Absolute madness. Shoes off if you love Willis! It is a very cool

:01:36. > :01:44.story. He will play the game. Roger against Marcus. David against

:01:45. > :01:47.Goliath. To share a court with Roger Federer, what a joy. Very good from

:01:48. > :02:16.Federer. I hope the best for him, I wish he

:02:17. > :02:21.can jump in the rankings and enjoy himself even more now. It was a

:02:22. > :02:25.pleasure to play against him. It sounds funny but I'm disappointed to

:02:26. > :02:30.lose, I went out to win but I can hold my head, I have had a fantastic

:02:31. > :02:33.few weeks and I want more experiences like this. And we

:02:34. > :02:37.certainly want more of Marcus Willis. He has been the big story of

:02:38. > :02:42.the opening three days at the Championships. It felt like a Davis

:02:43. > :02:45.Cup tie yesterday, a carnival atmosphere and everybody getting

:02:46. > :02:49.involved. The only person who did not was Roger Federer who was the

:02:50. > :02:56.ultimate professional. Marcus Willis may have lost but he has a lot to be

:02:57. > :03:00.proud of. This is the scene at Wimbledon today and because of the

:03:01. > :03:05.backlog of matches there are still some first-round matches to be

:03:06. > :03:09.completed. Play has got underway at 11am so we will be heading out to

:03:10. > :03:12.court very soon because there are so many matches to date as the

:03:13. > :03:18.tournament committee tries to catch up. Henman Hill is not as busy as

:03:19. > :03:22.usual because everybody is enjoying the tennis on the outside courts but

:03:23. > :03:29.still some people watching on the big screen. Good morning. Here at

:03:30. > :03:34.Wimbledon people are still talking about Marcus Willis and Roger

:03:35. > :03:36.Federer. What a match that was and what a story it was. Roger Federer

:03:37. > :03:54.has treated overnight... -- tweeted. No Marcus Willis left in

:03:55. > :03:58.the tournament and no Roger Federer today, he is through to the third

:03:59. > :04:01.round. There are still some first-round matches to be played but

:04:02. > :04:07.this is the Centre Court action which start at 1pm as usual. Kei

:04:08. > :04:17.Nishikori is up against Julien Benneteau and then it is Yen-Hsun Lu

:04:18. > :04:21.against Andy Murray. And then Eugenie Bouchard against the British

:04:22. > :04:29.number one, Johanna Konta. Another tough match for the 16th seed.

:04:30. > :04:33.Dimitrov and Simon only played one and a half games before the rain

:04:34. > :04:42.came yesterday. And then Garbine Muguruza takes on Jana Cepelova.

:04:43. > :04:45.Dominic Thiem and Jiri Vesely, two 22-year-old with big futures. These

:04:46. > :04:52.are the other matches we will be following.

:04:53. > :04:56.Dan Evans has taken the first set against Dolgopolov and is a break up

:04:57. > :05:10.in the second. We will be keeping an eye on the

:05:11. > :05:14.outside courts but also on the practice courts. Andy Murray is

:05:15. > :05:17.going through the motions, getting ready for his match, he is second on

:05:18. > :05:27.Centre Court also he is with his coach, Iban Andres -- Ivan Lendl,

:05:28. > :05:35.and Jamie Delgado. Not an easy match for him today against Lu who put out

:05:36. > :05:39.Andy Roddick on the second Monday of the championship some years ago so

:05:40. > :05:45.he will be taking it very seriously. That was Andy Murray earlier today.

:05:46. > :05:51.And he will be delighted by the progress of Dan Evans, his Davis Cup

:05:52. > :05:57.team-mate who is now two breaks of serve up against Dolgopolov. He must

:05:58. > :06:01.be sitting down happily at the moment. You can follow that online

:06:02. > :06:16.come on connected TV and on the BBC sport app. It is going well for him.

:06:17. > :06:21.And John Isner, one set up against Marcos Baghdatis. Baghdatis was 4-1

:06:22. > :06:25.up in the second set but Isner is now serving to take it into a

:06:26. > :06:33.tie-break. Lovely to see the sun shining here today for the I had

:06:34. > :06:37.forgotten that was blew up there! It was not the case yesterday, there

:06:38. > :06:42.was rain for most of the day. In fact, the club had to give a full

:06:43. > :06:47.refund to Court Number One ticket holders and it cost them about half

:06:48. > :06:52.?1 million. It is the first full refund since 2007 also other ticket

:06:53. > :06:57.holders were offered partial refunds but hopefully there will be no need

:06:58. > :07:00.for that today and the blue sky will remain but we can find out from the

:07:01. > :07:09.person who knows, Carol. This is better. So much better! We should

:07:10. > :07:15.have plenty of play today both up it will be a bit more cloudy yesterday

:07:16. > :07:24.so bright rather than wall to wall blue skies. Just a risk of Peshawar.

:07:25. > :07:30.-- of a shower. When the cloud goes across it feels a bit cooler, but

:07:31. > :07:33.when the sun is out it is beautifully warm. Tomorrow is

:07:34. > :07:39.similar, rain in the morning but by the time we get underway we are back

:07:40. > :07:45.into the risk of just one or two showers. Again, some sunshine

:07:46. > :07:50.around. Saturday looks to have a greater chance of some showers and

:07:51. > :07:55.some of those could be heavy and thundery. But a lot of play for the

:07:56. > :08:00.next couple of days. I thought you were going to say it would be

:08:01. > :08:04.beautiful on Saturday! Oh well. Thank you, at least it is good at

:08:05. > :08:09.the moment and play is underway which will please the tournament

:08:10. > :08:12.committee. We are heading out to court number 12 to see Heather

:08:13. > :08:17.Watson who played that amazing match against Serena Williams last year.

:08:18. > :08:21.Her first-round opponent was Annika Beck of Germany and this was last

:08:22. > :08:27.night just before the rain stopped play. She suffered a heavy fall, she

:08:28. > :08:32.iced her ankle and had it bandaged but a couple points later they went

:08:33. > :08:38.off. You could see how miserable it was. We are going to join it with

:08:39. > :08:43.the match resuming today. Watson had taken the first set but then lost

:08:44. > :08:49.seven games in a row. This is where we picked it up with Beck serving at

:08:50. > :09:22.30-15 and our commentators are Jo Durie and John Inverdale.

:09:23. > :09:36.JOHN INVERDALE: That is a high-quality first rally. JO DURIE:

:09:37. > :09:41.it looks as though Beck is moving fine. I want some of those

:09:42. > :09:56.painkillers! I should say as well, Beck's served

:09:57. > :10:02.in that first point, tentative was not the word, 62 mph. That's one

:10:03. > :10:22.crawled over the net. APPLAUSE

:10:23. > :10:26.That was not much better, 76 mph and it puts Watson in a very good

:10:27. > :10:33.position up the court where she can boss the point. It did not seem as

:10:34. > :10:49.though Beck moved quite so well to that shot wide on her backhand side.

:10:50. > :10:59.That was good scrambling by Heather which was frustrating the German but

:11:00. > :11:05.that error on the backhand side, and you suspect actually that Beck is

:11:06. > :11:10.quite relieved to have held serve. After all the mind games and how it

:11:11. > :11:14.finished last night, if Heather at broken back that would have been a

:11:15. > :11:20.very interesting change in emphasis. I think so and she squeaked out a

:11:21. > :11:24.bit. She will try to target the Beck backhand into that corner and get

:11:25. > :11:34.her moving. A big service game for Heather.

:11:35. > :11:45.APPLAUSE That was positive enough. It was

:11:46. > :11:51.nice and composed. She took her time on each shot, especially this one.

:11:52. > :11:53.You don't need to go too much near the line on that when you have got a

:11:54. > :12:06.nice gap. Back standing well inside the court

:12:07. > :12:28.for the second serve. -- Beck. When you are serving, how

:12:29. > :12:32.much are you conscious of where the receiver is standing? Very conscious

:12:33. > :12:36.and that is what you try to stand in different places when receiving but

:12:37. > :12:41.actually Beck did not hit the return hard at all, she has been quite

:12:42. > :13:04.passive so far. She has let Watson get on with missing.

:13:05. > :13:14.That is a disappointing shot. They are both quite tentative because

:13:15. > :13:20.they know there is a lot at stake here. Very close to each other in

:13:21. > :13:24.the rankings and before this game began, everybody said it was too

:13:25. > :13:43.close to call and both players seem to know that.

:13:44. > :13:54.Oh dear, two in a row off the backhand side. And these serves from

:13:55. > :13:58.Heather, 70 odd mph, are giving the initiative to the German and

:13:59. > :14:04.suddenly this could be a really key point in this match. Beck has two

:14:05. > :14:25.break points for a 3-0 lead in this decisive set.

:14:26. > :14:36.And if you were being honest, that was not Heather's best game. It

:14:37. > :14:40.wasn't, that is Beck's coach. She is very happy. Beck is not doing very

:14:41. > :14:44.much, she is putting the ball in court, a lot are half court and they

:14:45. > :14:49.are there to be hit but at the moment the Watson is hitting them

:14:50. > :14:55.out. And the pressure now is ever greater. At 3-0 there is not much

:14:56. > :15:01.margin for error. No. When you go down 3-0, there is only one option,

:15:02. > :15:05.you have got to play better and get the energy and motivation and focus

:15:06. > :15:10.from yourself and take it on to court and show your opponent. There

:15:11. > :15:14.is not that much threat from Beck, she is just getting the ball back in

:15:15. > :15:20.court so Heather as to be proactive somehow. Can you do that

:15:21. > :15:25.conservatively? She has got to keep the ball in court. She has but she

:15:26. > :15:32.has the show the energy and intention to her opponent first of

:15:33. > :15:36.all. -- she has to show. Annika Beck is just three games away from

:15:37. > :15:40.victory over Heather Watson and a place in the second round so it is a

:15:41. > :15:50.big game for Herbert big opportunity for as well now. -- for her. And the

:15:51. > :15:51.crowd are desperate to get into this match and if Heather starts playing

:15:52. > :16:13.better they will get behind her. That's better. APPLAUSE

:16:14. > :16:20.And you can tell from the reaction of the crowd. That is one of those

:16:21. > :16:23.great chicken and egg dilemmas. The players might say that the crowd did

:16:24. > :16:30.not get behind me but the crowd would say you were not playing well

:16:31. > :16:36.enough! Always an interesting dance. -- balance.

:16:37. > :16:47.That's more like it! That was more like the first set. She was hitting

:16:48. > :16:52.those forehands down the line all the time in the first set and they

:16:53. > :17:06.were working beautifully because Beck was not really spotting them.

:17:07. > :17:13.There was a little bit more pace off the ball from Beck but really a

:17:14. > :17:18.forehand that Watson should have made. She is jogging around, trying

:17:19. > :17:35.her best to get going. UMPIRE: Miss Watson is challenging

:17:36. > :17:41.the call, it was called in. I know we can get obsessed by statistics,

:17:42. > :17:44.in sport in generally, but Heather Watson, 32 unforced errors in this

:17:45. > :18:15.match and Beck has 13. Ouch. Thank you very much. Heather will

:18:16. > :18:22.take those all-day. That was really tentative from Beck. That look like

:18:23. > :18:24.a serve where she had looked at the scoreboard and thought, if I win

:18:25. > :18:46.this point I am 4-0 up. Oh no, very awkward on the shot from

:18:47. > :18:53.Watson, or over the place with her balance. -- all over the place.

:18:54. > :19:07.Annika Beck with a point for a 4-0 lead.

:19:08. > :19:28.I don't know if Watson was just holding her leg. She was very low on

:19:29. > :19:36.the ball. She comes across... Her mum was looking at her anxiously. I

:19:37. > :19:46.think that is what mums always do! I guess! That was a good serve by

:19:47. > :19:49.Beck. I think Heather lost her footing in that previous point. Her

:19:50. > :20:25.left foot slipped beneath her. Great shot, Heather Watson! That's

:20:26. > :20:30.more like it. Because Beck was hitting the ball whole lot harder in

:20:31. > :20:37.this rally and suddenly Watson switches it and she could not catch

:20:38. > :20:44.that. This could be a really pivotal moment in this match. If Heather can

:20:45. > :20:46.get back into it, doubts might start creeping in for Beck. That is a wild

:20:47. > :21:06.first serve. She played that so well. You could

:21:07. > :21:13.tell that Beck knew how important that point was, the second serve was

:21:14. > :21:18.69 mph. She was basically saying, go on, over to you, I'm giving you the

:21:19. > :21:23.chance to win the point and she did just that so here is a break back

:21:24. > :21:35.point to break a run of nine consecutive games she has lost.

:21:36. > :22:07.That is caught 12 down on the bottom right. And caught number two on the

:22:08. > :22:11.right-hand side is where Dan Evans is playing so this is like a British

:22:12. > :22:19.enclave! -- court. She has left it awfully late but

:22:20. > :22:41.better late than never. That was what was happening an awful

:22:42. > :22:47.lot in the first set. Beck knows, she had three game points in that

:22:48. > :22:51.last game for a 4-0 lead. And she was almost Dolly Inc in the second

:22:52. > :23:00.serve and hoping Heather would give it to her rather than take it

:23:01. > :23:05.herself -- dollying. But better reaction now from Heather. You can

:23:06. > :23:07.see that mentally she is in it, she has the feeling that she can still

:23:08. > :23:28.win this. That of course is one of the great

:23:29. > :23:29.differences of the women's game. One break of serve is not necessarily

:23:30. > :23:49.the end of the world. That is another good forehand from

:23:50. > :23:55.Heather. The force is with her now. It was perfect because she tries

:23:56. > :23:59.this into the corner, and this stands up and Watson takes it right

:24:00. > :24:15.on top of the bounce, she flattens it out.

:24:16. > :24:28.That forehand is working well. A big shriek from Heather. Suddenly we

:24:29. > :24:33.could be 3-2 and that is a very different ball game to 4-0 which she

:24:34. > :24:34.might have been. Look at the footwork now, much better and more

:24:35. > :25:04.dynamic. If she can just win this point, the

:25:05. > :25:08.doubts might start creeping into Beck's mind. She does have a break

:25:09. > :25:15.of serve but it is not like playing John Isner where if you are a break

:25:16. > :25:17.of serve down you ring Uber and check out of the hotel! It's not the

:25:18. > :25:41.same. That was... Golly. It was horrible

:25:42. > :25:47.because Heather tried to get her first serve in by ticking the pace

:25:48. > :26:01.off, it was only 86 mph, so that is really going to hurt. That was, I

:26:02. > :26:28.must get this in. It was out but 108 will make her feel a lot better.

:26:29. > :26:36.That was a potential winner until it hit the net. The net took it wide

:26:37. > :26:42.and now, we have said this half dozen times in this match, but the

:26:43. > :26:46.wonders of the tennis scoring system, suddenly when you thought

:26:47. > :26:48.you were right back in the game, if Annika Beck can win this point,

:26:49. > :27:01.Heather Watson might be out of it. UMPIRE: Miss Watson is challenging

:27:02. > :27:08.the call. It was called out. I think it was out as well. That was a much

:27:09. > :27:30.more positive swing at the ball. But clearly wide.

:27:31. > :27:40.APPLAUSE A lot at stake on that point. And

:27:41. > :27:44.they both knew it. I thought Beck might stand further up the court

:27:45. > :27:47.because she was bossing the point but she ended up quite far behind

:27:48. > :28:09.the baseline. Watson hanging in. And another of those unforced errors

:28:10. > :28:15.that are bedevilling her game now. That is 37 now in this match.

:28:16. > :28:27.Another opportunity for the German to seize the initiative.

:28:28. > :28:35.And Heather will be bitterly disappointed by that, as you can

:28:36. > :28:47.see, hurling her racket into the ground. And a code violation, she

:28:48. > :28:52.does not like that racket at all. She is livid with herself because it

:28:53. > :28:58.was not as though Beck won that game, Heather gave it to her. She

:28:59. > :29:02.almost broke herself, unfortunately. I understand her frustration because

:29:03. > :29:07.she was getting going, the crowd were with her and she was hitting

:29:08. > :29:10.those shots down the line which she had done so well in the first set

:29:11. > :29:16.but now she is playing catch-up again. Maybe the moment has gone

:29:17. > :29:28.because Beck was definitely feeling more uptight. We

:29:29. > :29:31.mentioned unforced errors. If you look at it in game terms, 38

:29:32. > :29:34.unforced errors from Heather, 16 from Beck, a difference of 22 points

:29:35. > :29:40.which is almost a set. And nine games in a row, a lot of them were

:29:41. > :29:45.in there. Beck is playing quite defensively and waiting for the

:29:46. > :29:49.Watson errors at the moment. There was variation in the quality of her

:29:50. > :29:54.performance in the last game because she hit some great forehand and then

:29:55. > :29:59.one or two shots that were simply not good enough for a player

:30:00. > :30:02.aspiring to play at the level that she does. Here we are at 4-1 and

:30:03. > :30:15.Beck has two breaks of serve. But you still sense that there might

:30:16. > :30:23.be a lot of tennis in this match. Especially... There are nerves on

:30:24. > :30:25.both sides of this court. Beck is not exactly going after her serve so

:30:26. > :30:59.Watson has a chance. Good shot. It's a great forehand

:31:00. > :31:11.from Watson. Loads of spin, and this was very flat. What a super angle.

:31:12. > :31:22.It was the right one to try. The gap was there. She loves that backhand

:31:23. > :31:43.down the line. She has to give herself a bit of a gee up.

:31:44. > :31:55.Well played, Heather. Moving the German from one side of the court to

:31:56. > :32:01.the other. Watson played a great return and of course she's going to

:32:02. > :32:19.come in after that. On an overhead, she is very good. I have never seen

:32:20. > :32:25.her miss one. And low and behold,... So who is going to take this game by

:32:26. > :32:34.the Schruff of the neck? 4-2 in the final set and you would say that

:32:35. > :32:45.Beck can see the finish line. And she can ease past her if she cut out

:32:46. > :32:54.the errors. Perhaps it is positive. That is a wide server. When you can

:32:55. > :32:57.see your opponent at the other side, you can see the tension on their

:32:58. > :33:19.shoulders, not quite getting through their shots as much.

:33:20. > :33:27.Let's draw a veil over that point and say that Heather won it, and she

:33:28. > :33:46.is 30-0 up. If she can hold here, she is right back in this.

:33:47. > :34:02.Three aces for Heather so far in this match.

:34:03. > :34:16.A game to love, and now the pressure is all on Beck. Which coaching team

:34:17. > :34:22.would you like to be part of now? I would fancy Watson. Coming from

:34:23. > :34:29.behind sometimes is slightly easier because there is no option. You have

:34:30. > :34:40.to be bold and brave. She has the fire back in her eyes. Her coaches

:34:41. > :34:44.working part time with her. He has a young family. But Annika Beck is

:34:45. > :34:54.feeling it out here, trying to get this win. At 4-1, you can see the

:34:55. > :34:57.locker room, you can sense the shower of victory. And you tends to

:34:58. > :35:03.be a bit tentative unless you really go for it. She had one or two poor

:35:04. > :35:12.ground strokes and suddenly you glance at the scoreboard and you

:35:13. > :35:16.think, wasn't I up? Beck needs to work her serve a little better

:35:17. > :35:23.because Watson is returning very well. Heather's mum has moved set.

:35:24. > :35:29.Sending positive energy to her daughter.

:35:30. > :36:00.Don't give anything at the moment. I don't think there is any need to go

:36:01. > :36:32.near line. That is how so many rallies in the

:36:33. > :36:44.first set ended up. With a back forehand or backhand. -- Beck

:36:45. > :36:48.forehand. You can sense from Heather's body position, she is

:36:49. > :37:00.prowling. She consents she is onto something. -- she can sense. Another

:37:01. > :37:05.one in the net from Beck. And when you get tense, you don't reveal your

:37:06. > :37:06.whole stroke, you just hold off a bit, your muscles are getting

:37:07. > :37:37.tighter. Were played to the German. Two

:37:38. > :37:47.positive ground strokes. But still an opportunity for Heather to get

:37:48. > :37:51.them back to level pegging. She's been to the nets twice in the entire

:37:52. > :38:05.match, and lost the point on both occasions. Oh dear. Both serves in

:38:06. > :38:11.the 60s, that tells you how nervous Annika Beck is at the moment. And

:38:12. > :38:19.the initiative has well and truly passed to Heather Watson. Ten

:38:20. > :38:28.minutes ago she was 4-1 down and now she is at for all. -- 4-4. The food

:38:29. > :38:39.workers got better and better this set?

:38:40. > :38:54.It is all Watson now. Every servers going out wide and getting good

:38:55. > :39:29.reward. -- every server is going out wide.

:39:30. > :39:41.That is a way to do it. The crowd on her side right now. She has such

:39:42. > :39:50.good deal around the net area. She gets underneath the ball, wrote nice

:39:51. > :40:23.and low. The time for composure for Heather

:40:24. > :40:26.Watson because she could serve this out. Annika Beck is going to be

:40:27. > :40:56.dreading the next service game. And you have to say, how positive

:40:57. > :41:01.Heather has been. At 4-1 down it is so easy to not exactly throw the

:41:02. > :41:05.towel in but say, how are you playing? It was like that at the

:41:06. > :41:10.beginning, she could hardly make a ball. But it is all about managing

:41:11. > :41:13.your emotions, working around the problems yourself. And she has got

:41:14. > :41:17.herself going with the footwork, the way she is getting onto the ball,

:41:18. > :41:22.showing Beck that she is willing to go it more than Beck is. She really

:41:23. > :41:26.wanted her opponents to mess to win the match, she did not want to win

:41:27. > :41:31.it. But Heather is out there to win it now. And a penny for those

:41:32. > :41:35.thoughts at the moment. Her serve has got slower and slower and

:41:36. > :41:45.slower, and more and more tentative as the set has gone on. It's not

:41:46. > :41:52.easy to go out and say, right, I'm going to really give it a go. She

:41:53. > :41:56.has only won three points in the last four games. She is really up

:41:57. > :42:32.against it. Unlikely. The chance was there. The

:42:33. > :42:50.crowd growing, they really want you to win so much.

:42:51. > :42:57.And that is frustrating. You can see an Heather's face, the annoyance.

:42:58. > :43:02.Two points that she has effectively given to the German. And that really

:43:03. > :43:07.flew off the racket. I think the first one was a good one to go for.

:43:08. > :43:16.That cannot have felt great. Off the line. The ebb and flow of tennis is

:43:17. > :43:19.such that Heather last nine games in a row in the middle of this match

:43:20. > :43:26.and it could very easily have been ten. And now she has won four in a

:43:27. > :43:30.row, and that is the run that Beck is trying to break to get them back

:43:31. > :43:50.to five apiece. Beck will feel a lot better after

:43:51. > :43:54.that. She was helped along by Watson. Those first two points. But

:43:55. > :44:02.then she hit through the ball very well. It is all about serve and

:44:03. > :44:05.return at the moment. Watson needs to get a high percentage of first

:44:06. > :44:14.serves in. She does not need to hit that hard on grass. She is hitting

:44:15. > :44:18.the white one well. You feel that if Watson's forehands down the line had

:44:19. > :44:25.been in, that first point, it would be game over now. Becker would have

:44:26. > :44:34.thought, it is getting away from me. But now we back the match. -- but

:44:35. > :44:37.now we are back into the match. New balls, of course, so it will be

:44:38. > :44:39.interesting to see who can control them better. And the wind getting

:44:40. > :44:59.up. Quite noticeably. Very hard to tell which way it is

:45:00. > :45:07.blowing because the weather vane at the end is going all over the place.

:45:08. > :45:09.I think it is left to right. From those trees, it is going from the

:45:10. > :45:37.umpires chair across the stand. That had served her so well

:45:38. > :45:45.throughout this match, the drop shot. She plays it well, normally.

:45:46. > :45:59.Maybe Beck took a step towards the net and tried to play it to close.

:46:00. > :46:20.That serves, out wide to the forehand, it has served her very

:46:21. > :46:27.well throughout this match. Exulting herself to greater efforts there.

:46:28. > :46:29.And the crowd with her, too. At the moment, I imagine she is trying to

:46:30. > :46:55.target that forehand again. A great shot. That was almost

:46:56. > :47:14.Samprasesque. That will make a great photo. Two positive points to get

:47:15. > :47:22.back to 30-30. Come on, she says. An ace. Heather Watson on fire.

:47:23. > :47:28.And having faced the possibility of losing her serve, here we are now

:47:29. > :47:55.with the chance for a 6-5 lead in the set. And a big cheer from the

:47:56. > :47:59.crowd on courts 12. -- court 12. We have been playing now for two hours

:48:00. > :48:03.and five minutes, as you can see from the bottom of that caption.

:48:04. > :48:06.This has been a match of three halves. The first three games played

:48:07. > :48:13.yesterday lunchtime and we came back for an hour and a quarter yesterday

:48:14. > :48:17.evening, during which Heather won the first set and lost the second.

:48:18. > :48:21.Now we have been here for nearly 45 minutes, and it has been ebb and

:48:22. > :48:25.flow again. It seemed like it was going Beck's way and then it was

:48:26. > :48:33.Heather's weight but now the pressure once more is really on the

:48:34. > :48:38.young German. I thought that was a fascinating game by Watson. 0-30

:48:39. > :48:42.down, she looked like she might lose her serve but she steeled herself

:48:43. > :48:50.and thought about it. Very composed in the end.

:48:51. > :48:58.What a difference a day makes. This time yesterday it was grey and

:48:59. > :49:07.dreary and very hard to get anybody is used on or off the court. But

:49:08. > :49:28.now, a real buzz. -- anybody infused.

:49:29. > :50:02.Good depicting. She likes to go down the line. -- good deep pitting.

:50:03. > :50:12.Well, that was a tremendous winning shot from Beck. But it was real cat

:50:13. > :50:20.and mouse there. Beck has not played many of these. And Watson came back

:50:21. > :50:29.with a short one. Becker knew she was going to do it so she was right

:50:30. > :50:33.there. The redrop, which I think is a word that is creeping into the

:50:34. > :50:40.tennis vocabulary. A drop shot off the drop shot.

:50:41. > :50:50.That was a first serve of 67 mph. And that was a second serve at 63

:50:51. > :51:00.mph. The winds to get away from Watson. It is trickier cheer. It is

:51:01. > :51:17.hard, because you have to generate your own racket speed.

:51:18. > :51:26.That was a terrific down the line winner from Heather.

:51:27. > :51:53.So you can talk about forehand and backhand is an slow serves and

:51:54. > :51:57.whatever you want to talk about but this is when it comes down to nerve.

:51:58. > :52:03.This is all about courage and nerve and who is willing to grab the

:52:04. > :52:11.moment. But what a better look today at Wimbledon, with a bit of sun. It

:52:12. > :52:24.changes your outlook of life. Shadows all over the court.

:52:25. > :52:52.That is the sum up there. Oh, Heather.

:52:53. > :53:14.An ace. Ace number six. That really was a rabbit from a hat. That was

:53:15. > :53:33.amazing. Talk about being courageous.

:53:34. > :54:02.Merely. If I was Heather I would have challenged that.

:54:03. > :54:14.Didn't get up to that bowl. Stretching for it. No control. Will

:54:15. > :54:20.she go to her favourite wide serve on this crucial point.

:54:21. > :54:51.Are we close to the tipping point here?

:54:52. > :55:01.That is a loose shot, a really loose shot from Heather Watson. And her

:55:02. > :55:08.coaching team, Jeremy Bates, as you can see, he has come down to watch

:55:09. > :55:20.the end of the match. That was a forehand with no belief.

:55:21. > :55:26.My goodness. She was saying it was a bad bounce but she was very far

:55:27. > :55:34.behind the baseline. The ball did not get to her. It is all a bit

:55:35. > :55:35.jittery at the moment. It sure is. This is the nerve centre of

:55:36. > :56:09.Wimbledon. At the moment, Beck is hitting

:56:10. > :56:30.through the ball better than Watson. She is committing to it.

:56:31. > :56:39.Ace number six could not have come at a better time for Heather Watson.

:56:40. > :56:59.She went to her trusty serve out wide, which gave her a

:57:00. > :57:08.straightforward forehand down the line. Psychologists always talk

:57:09. > :57:13.about treating each point in isolation, treating 15-0 in the

:57:14. > :57:16.first game the same way you would treat 6-6 in the third. There is

:57:17. > :57:50.more on it, but you were trying to get on with it.

:57:51. > :57:58.That was the brain sending messages to the arm and to the shoulder and

:57:59. > :58:03.ultimately to the racket. Seven aces, six double faults. Slide the

:58:04. > :58:12.first serve in. She is not wide. -- she is not wired

:58:13. > :58:55.into you, Jo. She went for it. And she gave it too

:58:56. > :59:16.much. No wonder Watson is taking a little bit more time.

:59:17. > :59:25.Great server. What she wouldn't give for two more of those. She composed

:59:26. > :00:12.herself beautifully for that serve. It is so tense here, you really can

:00:13. > :00:15.cut the atmosphere with a knife. I don't think Watson wants a forehand

:00:16. > :00:57.at the moment. And I think Beck knows that.

:00:58. > :01:05.Well, that was a huge point and both players played well together for the

:01:06. > :01:14.first time in a while. And Heather took the gamble and it didn't pay

:01:15. > :01:22.off. And Annika Beck will serve for the match in just a moment. We had

:01:23. > :01:27.better breathe as well! It was very uptight, that long rally, they were

:01:28. > :01:34.both trying to hit it and it wasn't quite coming off the racket sweetly.

:01:35. > :01:38.Who was going to miss first? Beck was slightly stronger. She was

:01:39. > :01:42.scrambling well because Heather was in the ascendancy and dictating it

:01:43. > :01:49.but not to the point where she could put it away. You are saying it is

:01:50. > :01:53.tense, it always amazes me at matches like this that there are not

:01:54. > :01:58.more people taken ill from the coaching panels and parents and

:01:59. > :02:03.friends! You play every shot and especially in a game like this that

:02:04. > :02:09.swings one way and the other, how you remain phlegmatic and calm...

:02:10. > :02:15.You have to, as a coach, because your player will look at you so

:02:16. > :02:22.whatever you are feeling you had to portray calmness. The thing about

:02:23. > :02:26.this match is that Annika Beck will not serve Heather Watson off the

:02:27. > :02:30.court. This serve has been broken several times already and can be

:02:31. > :02:36.broken again. Heather as to seize the moment and get back on level

:02:37. > :02:38.terms or otherwise she is going out of Wimbledon in the first round.

:02:39. > :03:09.Annika Beck serving for the match. APPLAUSE

:03:10. > :03:17.Well played, Heather. I am surprised Beck did not put a lob up, it might

:03:18. > :03:20.have induced a few jitters. I think she is very tense about finishing

:03:21. > :03:43.off this match so all is not lost yet.

:03:44. > :03:55.APPLAUSE Never in doubt! As it left the

:03:56. > :04:03.racket head, you thought it was going wide and it just caught this

:04:04. > :04:12.puff of white. It wasn't hit cleanly but it was on the line.

:04:13. > :04:26.And that was on the line as welcome it held the ball up. -- as well, it

:04:27. > :04:38.held the ball up. That is just the rub of the green.

:04:39. > :04:52.Lovely. Good shot, Heather. Positive, sweetly struck. Hitting

:04:53. > :04:59.her forehand so much better in this game.

:05:00. > :05:13.APPLAUSE Well, who wants to win this match?

:05:14. > :05:22.I think they both probably want to win it too badly and this is what it

:05:23. > :05:27.comes down to. No tie-breaks here at Wimbledon so you had to play it out.

:05:28. > :05:31.And the scheduling committee are thinking, we will put this game on

:05:32. > :05:36.first and be done by half past 11 and then we can get on! Here we are,

:05:37. > :06:06.another hour later and it is anybody's match.

:06:07. > :06:18.And it is the Beck ground strokes that are breaking down now. You feel

:06:19. > :06:24.that Heather has the armoury to win this match which Beck does not have

:06:25. > :06:25.and that might be the key factor. She is certainly serving better than

:06:26. > :06:39.her opponent. We said at 4-1 to Beck that there

:06:40. > :06:42.was a lot of tennis still to play but I'm not sure we thought quite

:06:43. > :07:20.this much. I thought that was going to go over

:07:21. > :07:28.for a second. There is an air of resignation over Beck and three

:07:29. > :07:32.points for a 8-7 lead for Heather Watson in the final set.

:07:33. > :07:43.APPLAUSE I'm not sure what Beck was

:07:44. > :07:44.complaining about because that was a sweetly struck ace, number eight of

:07:45. > :07:58.the match. This final set has been an hour and

:07:59. > :08:03.a quarter so far. It could easily have been won 40 minutes or so ago

:08:04. > :08:11.but now the opportunity is there for Heather Watson to break Beck's serve

:08:12. > :08:15.and make it through to the second round but... The momentum keeps

:08:16. > :08:21.shifting from end to end, sometimes going ahead, you don't keep hitting

:08:22. > :08:27.the ball and they have both been guilty of that. Even if Beck hit it,

:08:28. > :08:32.she does not go in after it so Watson can scramble at the back of

:08:33. > :08:39.the court and wait for a better shot to hit herself. It's exhausting! It

:08:40. > :08:44.is. All day yesterday from beginning to end they were on and off and then

:08:45. > :08:51.starting first today, the whole process is totally exhausting. That

:08:52. > :08:58.was Heather's mum, Michelle, who has been going through this for the last

:08:59. > :09:06.12 years and more. I don't suppose for a second that it gets any

:09:07. > :09:14.easier. She was just as engaged in the under 12s 12 years ago, playing

:09:15. > :09:16.every agonising point. On the line again. You could see how it hopped

:09:17. > :09:41.at Watson. There doesn't seem to be an

:09:42. > :09:54.advantage from being ahead in this set. Or serving.

:09:55. > :10:02.That was an easy shot to play, didn't need to hit it too hard. She

:10:03. > :10:14.is serving a bit better in this game actually.

:10:15. > :10:23.Heather Cross with that because that game went past in the blink of an

:10:24. > :10:27.eye and from 8-7 it is 8-8 swiftly. Should we have a final set tie-break

:10:28. > :10:30.here at Wimbledon? It has been talked about a lot am especially for

:10:31. > :10:56.the guys in their five set matches. You can talk about having a

:10:57. > :10:59.tie-break in the final set here, John Isner is on the next-door

:11:00. > :11:51.court, let's ask him! Exactly. I couldn't believe that one on the

:11:52. > :11:53.baseline was in, that Watson didn't challenge. Neither of them wanting

:11:54. > :12:53.to hit the ball at the moment. She came straight over the top of

:12:54. > :12:58.that shot. You have made the point several times during this lengthy

:12:59. > :13:04.third set which is heading towards an hour and a half, how Beck has

:13:05. > :13:08.been targeting Heather's forehand. When it's good, it's very good but

:13:09. > :13:20.she has also conceded a lot of points on it as well.

:13:21. > :13:57.Watson a lot happier, she got a few backhands in a row to go for.

:13:58. > :14:08.APPLAUSE Beck goes long.

:14:09. > :14:15.I think a gust of wind just took that ball as well. Here is Heather

:14:16. > :14:31.looking at a 9-8 lead. Beck a full yard inside the

:14:32. > :14:43.baseline. But then she retreats a long way

:14:44. > :14:54.behind it and puts the ball way over the other end.

:14:55. > :15:05.We can't call it an epic but it's long! It's long and nervy and

:15:06. > :15:11.extremely tiring, when you had yesterday with all the rain, coming

:15:12. > :15:15.in and playing first today and it is dragging it out of these two at the

:15:16. > :15:19.moment. It is very difficult at this stage of the match, the first round

:15:20. > :15:23.of a Grand Slam, there is so much on it. Whether you can be brave enough

:15:24. > :15:32.to hit the ball and go for it when it is there. The oldest cliche in

:15:33. > :15:36.the world, the hardest point to win in tennis is the final point, as

:15:37. > :15:40.Heather will tell you from what was an epic match against Serena

:15:41. > :15:45.Williams last year when she was within two point of beating the

:15:46. > :15:50.number one seed. She has got to the third round here in the past. Her

:15:51. > :15:54.opponent has only got to the second round before. But they both

:15:55. > :16:03.desperately want a chance to be in the second round against probably

:16:04. > :16:06.Kristina Mladenovic. We are so far behind schedule, there is a second

:16:07. > :16:10.round match waiting for one of these two tomorrow but who will it be? Who

:16:11. > :16:24.can seize the moment? No, again, not quite getting

:16:25. > :16:30.through. I know the serve landed on the line and it was very awkward but

:16:31. > :16:31.there was that forehand where Watson doesn't get enough racket head

:16:32. > :16:56.speed. Another error from Heather's racket.

:16:57. > :17:00.And if Beck was to win this match in the end, it would be the unfortunate

:17:01. > :17:04.errors that Heather would look back on, they currently stand at 56-26

:17:05. > :17:20.against her. A 30 point differential in the

:17:21. > :17:27.unforced errors. Well, she should go for that but if you are up to it a

:17:28. > :17:36.bit further, it is a bit easier. Beck held her last service game very

:17:37. > :17:44.easily. And she has held that even more easily.

:17:45. > :17:52.Here we go. You forgot to try to keep your focus. It is a very long

:17:53. > :17:57.match and taking a very long time. You have to try not to judge point

:17:58. > :18:04.by point but try your hardest on every one. It is from here.

:18:05. > :18:39.Beck guessed right. Good from Watson, she made herself really

:18:40. > :18:44.rotate into that and hit it and go for it. And so important to win the

:18:45. > :18:45.first point in the game at this stage in the contest. A tiny

:18:46. > :18:54.cushion. APPLAUSE

:18:55. > :19:44.That is a bigger cushion now. Great shot, Heather Watson! CHEERING

:19:45. > :19:52.AND APPLAUSE And again!

:19:53. > :20:03.Oh! What up point. Take a breath again. Ladies and gentlemen, as a

:20:04. > :20:18.courtesy to both players, please remain quiet during the points.

:20:19. > :20:38.Almost impossible for the moment to anybody to win up point against the

:20:39. > :20:42.serve. -- win a point. I actually think the umpire can instead of

:20:43. > :20:47.saying what she said, should be telling everybody to get more

:20:48. > :20:51.involved! Shout and scream more like in the Davis Cup! It is great when

:20:52. > :20:57.they get involved. They certainly did in that point. It was a great

:20:58. > :21:05.drop shot from Heather and a great get from Beck and then she did well

:21:06. > :21:12.to get back after the lob. And in these tricky conditions, it is quite

:21:13. > :21:15.blustery, to judge it right. She knew her opponent would get that

:21:16. > :21:22.very near the net but from that position it is very difficult. And

:21:23. > :21:32.then Beck is fast. That was a good get but yet again, the Watson

:21:33. > :21:36.overhead is brilliant. A swirling wind but she kept her eye on the

:21:37. > :21:43.ball until the key moment. She obviously has her game face on now

:21:44. > :21:51.because she has tied her hair up in a bun! No distractions! There is a

:21:52. > :21:57.job to be done and do it now. And new balls. Again, who will be bold

:21:58. > :22:15.enough to hit them? Oh yes! Beck's last two service games have

:22:16. > :22:17.been very straightforward for the German but you sense this might be

:22:18. > :22:39.Heather's moment. Yes, take that! 0-30, two points

:22:40. > :22:58.from victory. She is waiting to pounce on these short serves.

:22:59. > :23:09.CHEERING That error from Annika Beck means,

:23:10. > :23:15.after two and three quarters hours out here on court 12, over 26 hours

:23:16. > :23:30.since we began, it is match point. And still match point. It's nice

:23:31. > :23:36.when you have three in a row! Whatever happens here, it will still

:23:37. > :23:49.be match point. Heather Watson on the cusp of the second round.

:23:50. > :24:00.That is a brilliant shot. And Watson didn't do much. The ball wasn't

:24:01. > :24:10.going anywhere, it was ripe to be hit. Well now...

:24:11. > :24:44.That was a really nervous first serve.

:24:45. > :24:59.It's the line! You have to say, that was very brave from Beck. Heather

:25:00. > :25:04.Watson had three match points. And the German, who has been so

:25:05. > :25:07.tentative when facing opportunities to win the match, suddenly

:25:08. > :25:29.discovered boldness when she was on the point of losing.

:25:30. > :25:40.That is well played again from Beck. The ball was swirling around. Watson

:25:41. > :25:44.started off the game so proactive, going after the serve, and she has

:25:45. > :25:49.not done it since then. It is hard to make yourself do it. Now Beck has

:25:50. > :26:10.a chance for 10-10. And she takes it. Huge frustration

:26:11. > :26:18.for Heather Watson who had three match points in that game. And you

:26:19. > :26:24.would have to say also, huge frustration for the German camp.

:26:25. > :26:29.There we are, 93 minutes, this final set. I am sure they are looking at

:26:30. > :26:33.their player going, why did you not played with that panache and

:26:34. > :26:38.confidence when the game was sitting there, waiting for you to seize it?

:26:39. > :27:07.I will say again, it is very easy from here.

:27:08. > :27:17.You could see she held back on the drive volley and you just can't, you

:27:18. > :27:22.have to have a full swing. The first set was all Watson, the second set

:27:23. > :27:51.all Beck and this final set is all over the place. 10-10.

:27:52. > :28:00.It is 0-30 on Heather's serve now but as this match has proven, it

:28:01. > :28:05.does not matter who is serving and returning, every point is played in

:28:06. > :28:10.isolation. The betting exchanges on this match must be extraordinary as

:28:11. > :28:12.it has fluctuated one way and the other. Seven points in a road now

:28:13. > :28:30.for Beck. -- in a row. And she will be cross about that. It

:28:31. > :28:35.was a good serve from Heather that came in on the wind which is

:28:36. > :28:40.blowing, as you are looking, left to right from the umpire's chair across

:28:41. > :28:49.to the stand on the other side but she got tucked up a bit there.

:28:50. > :29:00.And that is to make the game simple, just serve and ace and be done with

:29:01. > :29:03.it. Nine now for Watson. And when she serves one, she usually serves

:29:04. > :29:29.two or three in a game. Oh no. From one extreme to the

:29:30. > :29:35.other. I was trying to be positive. I'm going to nudge you in the ribs

:29:36. > :29:41.to say, don't do that again! Nine aces but seven double points and now

:29:42. > :30:06.it is break point for Annika Beck for an 11-10 lead.

:30:07. > :30:20.Well, it's not the end of the world by any means because history in this

:30:21. > :30:28.match tells us that you cannot read anything into who is serving for the

:30:29. > :30:33.match ought not serving and who has the ascendancy or not but you would

:30:34. > :30:38.rather be 11-10 up than down. I think lingering still those three

:30:39. > :30:42.match points because when you have them in a row you can be brave on

:30:43. > :30:46.the first one and as it goes on, especially Watson got a bit passive

:30:47. > :30:52.on them and that was a hangover into the next game. The thing is, I just

:30:53. > :30:57.don't see Beck coming out and being as positive as she was when she was

:30:58. > :31:05.0-40 down so it is hard to judge what will happen next in this match.

:31:06. > :31:15.We have had so many players who have been 0-30 down who have then won the

:31:16. > :31:18.game, that it is by no means certain what is going to happen. We're

:31:19. > :31:26.heading close to two hours and 50 minutes on Court 12. And this,

:31:27. > :31:34.effectively, is now a penalty shoot out. Between Germany and England.

:31:35. > :31:53.A mess by Watson. I didn't think Beck was being particularly

:31:54. > :32:22.proactive. That was, I think, the slowest

:32:23. > :32:35.server of the day. And it's not what it deserved. It did. And Watson

:32:36. > :32:39.controlled at beautifully. She did not have to hit it that hard. She

:32:40. > :33:13.will be cross about that. And she will be even more cross

:33:14. > :33:18.about that. As the clock ticks towards three hours out your own

:33:19. > :33:30.Court 12, Heather Watson finds herself two match points down

:33:31. > :33:35.against Annika Beck of Germany. But there we are. In moments of crisis,

:33:36. > :33:40.everybody is going for the big shot and they are making them. But that

:33:41. > :33:47.was a backhand for Watson to have a go at. I think she was quite

:33:48. > :33:48.relieved. One match points saved by Heather Watson. Can she save the

:33:49. > :34:20.second? She can't. That has gone long. And

:34:21. > :34:26.Annika Beck of Germany, in a match that began more than a day ago on

:34:27. > :34:35.Court 12, has won an extraordinary match of ebb and flow against

:34:36. > :34:42.Heather Watson. 3-6, 6-0, 12-10, and the final set, where the initial

:34:43. > :34:47.Nestor -- initiative switched back and forth and you were never sure

:34:48. > :34:53.who was going to grasp the nettle in the end. Heather Watson leaves Court

:34:54. > :34:57.12 very rapidly, very disappointed. SUE BARKER: Huge disappointment.

:34:58. > :35:02.Annika Beck, so strong. Heather Watson fighting hard but it is so

:35:03. > :35:07.tough and it is so disappointing, heartbreaking to lose a match here

:35:08. > :35:10.at Wimbledon. So close, when you have had so many chances,

:35:11. > :35:18.particularly at 0-40. Heather Watson, out of The Championships.

:35:19. > :35:22.That was a short time ago, and we will be catching up shortly. But

:35:23. > :35:27.plenty happening elsewhere. This was Court Number One I short while ago,

:35:28. > :35:33.with Gregor Dimitrov, great to see him back. A semifinalist in 2014 but

:35:34. > :35:38.how has he been doing? He has been struggling for form since then, now

:35:39. > :35:41.ranked 37 in the world. He is up against Gilles Simon, a

:35:42. > :35:44.quarterfinalist last year. That is starting on Court Number One and if

:35:45. > :35:56.you want to watch that, it will be on the red button. Simon against

:35:57. > :36:02.Dimitrov on the red button. And meanwhile over on Centre Court, here

:36:03. > :36:14.comes Kei Nishikori, up against Julien Benneteau, who has a ranking

:36:15. > :36:20.of 547. He has a protected ranking of 39. Kei Nishikori, he had an

:36:21. > :36:23.injury scare and had the trainer on for his first-round match. But he

:36:24. > :36:31.says he is fit and healthy and that matches on court. It is available

:36:32. > :36:36.online, on the website and on the app. And this is happening

:36:37. > :36:43.elsewhere. Venus Williams, the five-time champion out on Court 18,

:36:44. > :36:48.and she has started well, up a break of serve already. Follow that

:36:49. > :36:53.online. Isn't it lovely to see the sun shining around Wimbledon. Wada

:36:54. > :36:59.change for the last three days. And that is what is happening your life.

:37:00. > :37:04.Plenty of results to bring you. Sloane Stephens, a quarterfinalist

:37:05. > :37:15.in 2013, seeded 18 at these championships, she is through, 7-6,

:37:16. > :37:23.6-2. A good Grand Slam Red Ed. She was a semifinalist at the Australian

:37:24. > :37:27.Open as well. The 18th seed, safely through against Shuai Peng. But one

:37:28. > :37:35.seed is going out, Christine and more than a pitch of France, the

:37:36. > :37:55.21st seed, she has lost in only her second Wimbledon.

:37:56. > :38:02.Bacsinsky, in some form on Court number three, uncomfortably through

:38:03. > :38:13.6-4, 6-2. Always an exciting to watch. Some men's result and Sam

:38:14. > :38:21.Querrey, the big server from America, he has only reached the

:38:22. > :38:25.fourth round here, but he is safe, through against Thomaz Bellucci,

:38:26. > :38:32.6-4, 6-3, 6-2, but waiting for him in the next round, Djokavic. From

:38:33. > :38:36.one big server to another. John Isner, the 18th seed, back here at

:38:37. > :38:41.Wimbledon, and he has come through against Marcus Baghdatis. He came

:38:42. > :38:47.back from 4-1 down in the second is to take it on a tie-break. Took the

:38:48. > :39:00.third set 6-3. John Isner is through in straight sets. And he will face

:39:01. > :39:06.Matthew Barton, who finished off his match against Olivetti, who came

:39:07. > :39:14.through on a protected ranking. The crowd loving this match. What a

:39:15. > :39:17.battle out on Court Number Ten. Four hours in three minutes and his

:39:18. > :39:25.Australian fans, cheering him every inch of the way. Four hours and

:39:26. > :39:31.three minutes, I think he will be sore tomorrow, through to face John

:39:32. > :39:36.Isner. We are thoroughly enjoying the weather here. Plenty of ten is

:39:37. > :39:41.underway. And we are going from one British player to another. Dan Evans

:39:42. > :39:48.is in action as against Alexandr Dolgopolov. This match was held over

:39:49. > :39:52.from last night. Dan Evans won the first set tie-break and then went on

:39:53. > :39:56.to take the second set against the 30th seed. We join it at the start

:39:57. > :42:34.of the third set with Dolgopolov to serve.

:42:35. > :42:48.Evans having a conversation with himself. What an error from

:42:49. > :43:04.Dolgopolov. Another chance. For Evans to take hold of the set at the

:43:05. > :43:11.beginning. And he has. From 40-15, he has sealed the game. Dolgopolov

:43:12. > :43:19.must be wondering what the heck is going on. From 40-15, he really did

:43:20. > :43:25.leave the door ajar but Evans sprinted through it. And this

:43:26. > :43:31.passing shot here, it is the result of him being in the gym, going about

:43:32. > :43:33.his business day-to-day, like a pro. It is a shot he would not have been

:43:34. > :45:04.able to play this time last year. It shows you the quality of his

:45:05. > :45:05.performance so far, it is a real surprise when an error like that

:45:06. > :47:01.comes. In control of things at the moment.

:47:02. > :47:33.Dolgopolov trying to extricate himself.

:47:34. > :47:44.I think a couple of serve and volley is and the last few service points

:47:45. > :48:01.by Dolgopolov showing that he is well and truly in Plan B here.

:48:02. > :48:42.Just clipped the outside of the line.

:48:43. > :48:46.I hope it is not speaking too soon but it seems to me that he has his

:48:47. > :49:41.opponent on the ropes. The words to easy come to mind.

:49:42. > :49:48.Dolgopolov possibly does not know what to do any more. Or was that too

:49:49. > :49:54.strong? I think that is absolutely right but I do think that most of

:49:55. > :49:59.that is down to the quality of Evans' play. We were talking about

:50:00. > :50:04.it last night, how good his tennis was, and he has come out today, and

:50:05. > :50:09.in the hour or so that he has been out here, this has been a different

:50:10. > :50:14.level altogether. It has been clinical, a clinical display of how

:50:15. > :50:21.to play on grass. His movement has been perfect, he has been very

:50:22. > :50:27.simple tactically. He has been focused on any time he has had a

:50:28. > :50:32.chance to dictate points, he has done it. He has not put a foot

:50:33. > :50:37.wrong, except for serving for the second set at 5-2 when we had two

:50:38. > :50:41.loose points. And when you are playing as attacking game he is, it

:50:42. > :50:45.is a very fine line between being in control and stepping over that. But

:50:46. > :50:59.he has been absolutely superb so far.

:51:00. > :53:08.Back to taking each game as it comes.

:53:09. > :53:17.That is a fine piece of play. Classic grass court tennis. Well, it

:53:18. > :53:24.used to be. And again such intelligent play. 30-30, such an

:53:25. > :53:26.important point. Asking Dolgopolov, can you provide a pass? And the

:53:27. > :55:01.answer is no. Well played again. The movement of

:55:02. > :55:10.the ball there, he really had to dig one out. That kind of sides then

:55:11. > :55:14.slice here from Dolgopolov. Normally that getting the job done, and

:55:15. > :55:18.winning him points, but Evans has all the answers today. -- sides spin

:55:19. > :57:19.slice. The Ukrainian has stopped a five

:57:20. > :57:27.game run but he will need a deal of determination to get himself out of

:57:28. > :57:34.this. The game point of his last service game, the second serve, 107

:57:35. > :57:37.mph, you cannot execute shots and tactics like that if you do not have

:57:38. > :57:43.an appropriate amount of relaxation in your body. His management of this

:57:44. > :58:14.match has been faultless up till this point.

:58:15. > :59:37.Warding off the sun, not the rain, in contrast of yesterday.

:59:38. > :01:29.Dolgopolov serving to stay in the championship.

:01:30. > :01:47.Combination of flights and the deep forehand, perfectly executed. --

:01:48. > :02:24.slice. The crowd has responded. A little

:02:25. > :02:58.short of two hours and match point. A truly convincing victory by the

:02:59. > :03:04.British player. That is probably the best two hours of his tennis career.

:03:05. > :03:08.SUE BARKER: he will certainly have been enjoying his moment on Court

:03:09. > :03:13.Number Two. Wonderful performance from down. What he did in the US

:03:14. > :03:18.Open in 2013. Through to the third round there. He beat Roger a

:03:19. > :03:26.Nishikori. After the match he spoke to us. You made it look pretty

:03:27. > :03:30.simple out there. It was tough coming out yesterday. Stopping and

:03:31. > :03:37.starting. It was difficult to get my head round coming out this morning

:03:38. > :03:41.just to play the rest of the match. It was a strange one but I got

:03:42. > :03:45.through 3-0. A different start to this match compared to the finish.

:03:46. > :03:51.The first set went to the tie-break but you had to him by the third set.

:03:52. > :03:56.What's changed? I was used to his game a bit more. Yesterday it was

:03:57. > :04:00.wet and so I couldn't use my strength and movement and getting

:04:01. > :04:05.him moving today, more solid underfoot, that helped me a lot. I

:04:06. > :04:09.could come forward and close the net down. It was good. It is the

:04:10. > :04:17.furthest you have got in Wimbledon. You know who you are playing next?

:04:18. > :04:21.Yes. Pretty tough. Roger Federer, for people who do not know. He is

:04:22. > :04:25.probably sick of playing British players in front of that noisy

:04:26. > :04:32.British crowd! The British are normally a good draw! It will be fun

:04:33. > :04:36.and I can't wait to get out and play and it will be Anna Mayes experience

:04:37. > :04:43.and hopefully a good atmosphere. Is it the first time you have played

:04:44. > :04:48.him? How will you compose yourself and still enjoy every second and

:04:49. > :04:51.still play a good game? I have got to prepare as though I have a chance

:04:52. > :04:56.to win the match and that is what I will do. He is obviously one of the

:04:57. > :04:59.best players ever to have played the sport. It is difficult but I have

:05:00. > :05:06.got to put that to the back of my mind and give it a good go. Well

:05:07. > :05:10.done today. Thank you. SUE BARKER: just play the same super tennis

:05:11. > :05:14.today, all he can do against Roger Federer. We look forward to that

:05:15. > :05:18.match in the third round. This is what is happening on Dave four.

:05:19. > :05:22.Grigor Dimitrov has been struggling with form recently but he is serving

:05:23. > :05:27.now at that point against a player who knows his way around the grass

:05:28. > :05:32.court, Simon. Not struggling with one today, Grigor Dimitrov has taken

:05:33. > :05:37.the opening set 6-3. You can follow that match on the red button on

:05:38. > :05:40.Court Number One. And on Centre Court, Kei Nishikori, the fifth

:05:41. > :05:46.seed, serving against Julien Benneteau. That one is available

:05:47. > :06:00.online on the BBC at or on connected elevation. -- BBC or on connected

:06:01. > :06:14.television. And Andreas Seppi is up against me last round. He is tricky

:06:15. > :06:22.on grass, -- Raonic. John McEnroe will be watching that, as his coach.

:06:23. > :06:25.And we have Andy Murray and Johanna Konta, the British number one,

:06:26. > :06:30.coming up. She did well against Monica Puig at Eastbourne and he has

:06:31. > :06:33.another finalist today, Eugenie Bouchard. A tough seed for her,

:06:34. > :06:42.seeded at Wimbledon for the first time. Another results to bring you,

:06:43. > :06:47.former finalist and runner-up three ago, Sabine Lisicki. She has

:06:48. > :06:53.defeated Samantha Stosur, the 14th seed. No great surprise, but a seed

:06:54. > :07:01.going out. Sabine Lisicki loves grass court and Samantha has never

:07:02. > :07:06.really embraced them. 6-4, 6-2. This match was held over from yesterday.

:07:07. > :07:10.John Isner serving out against Marcos Baghdatis, winning the first

:07:11. > :07:16.two sets in tie-breaks, no great surprise from big John. He won the

:07:17. > :07:20.third set 6-3, so John goes into the next round to play Matthew Barton.

:07:21. > :07:25.When they played yesterday in the rain, there was a lot of dispute and

:07:26. > :07:29.discussion about whether they should play on or not. John Isner and

:07:30. > :07:34.Marcos Baghdatis did not want to go on but they were asked to carry on

:07:35. > :07:40.playing and no doubt they were asked about that in the press conference.

:07:41. > :07:43.What did they have to say? It felt dangerous. When you slip earlier on

:07:44. > :07:51.in the match, it gets into your head a bit and then you are timid moving.

:07:52. > :07:56.It is tough for me, moving on this surface, given the way the balls

:07:57. > :07:59.bouncing and whatnot. But yesterday it was very slippery and I think

:08:00. > :08:04.Marcos fell a bunch of times as well. It was tough to make

:08:05. > :08:12.aggressive moves on the grass yesterday. I think most players that

:08:13. > :08:20.were playing during the couple hour period that we were playing, we were

:08:21. > :08:24.pretty much agreed we felt like we were on ice skates and everyone was

:08:25. > :08:29.pretty tentative. Of course he is a very tall man as well, so movement

:08:30. > :08:33.is really key to his game. I think we will be hearing more about that

:08:34. > :08:37.because a lot of the players were not happy about being asked to play

:08:38. > :08:42.on. John is the first to speak up. With more showers forecast over the

:08:43. > :08:45.next few days, that could be a theme, players being asked to play

:08:46. > :08:50.on when they are not happy to and the risk of injury. One more results

:08:51. > :08:54.to bring you before we go to some tennis, and that is Madison Keys,

:08:55. > :08:59.number nine seed and quarterfinalist last year. She was taken a distance

:09:00. > :09:06.today against the very talented Belgian Kirsten Flipkens but he came

:09:07. > :09:10.through 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. -- she came through. She is into the next round

:09:11. > :09:14.and Madison Keys has broken into the top ten for the first time. She is

:09:15. > :09:20.the big American hope at The Championships along with the

:09:21. > :09:23.Williams sisters of course. Talking of the sisters, Venus is out on

:09:24. > :09:30.court 18 and what a difference this is. She has won 49 career titles,

:09:31. > :09:34.five at Wimbledon. This is the 71st Grand Slam event and she is up

:09:35. > :09:39.against a player who is a qualifier, playing in only her third Grand Slam

:09:40. > :09:43.event, ranked 115 and making her Wimbledon debut. It couldn't be more

:09:44. > :09:50.different. Maria Sakkari against Venus Williams. We join it with

:09:51. > :09:58.Venus 6-5 up, but I think she had a break earlier. Tracy Austin and

:09:59. > :10:01.Chris will bring us up to date. Yes, and how exciting it is for this

:10:02. > :10:05.qualifier, the number one from Greece, 115 in the world, her debut

:10:06. > :10:12.at Wimbledon. Just a third Grand Slam main draw. She got her first

:10:13. > :10:17.ever win on the grass in Wimbledon on Monday in straight sets to

:10:18. > :10:21.continue this fantastic run. And she has really made it feel like this is

:10:22. > :10:24.nowhere near the biggest match of her life. There have been plenty of

:10:25. > :10:29.chances for breaks of serve and she has had break in everyone but one of

:10:30. > :10:32.Williams's service game. She held comfortably the first time around to

:10:33. > :10:39.stay in the opening set. Here is the second.

:10:40. > :10:51.She has just thought this out so well so far.

:10:52. > :11:05.TRACY AUSTIN: Venus was looking so spot on and she is so poised, Maria,

:11:06. > :11:06.for somebody in this situation. She has served better as the match has

:11:07. > :11:18.gone on. Well done. She has thought of coach

:11:19. > :11:27.herself because initially second was getting hammered. She had to adjust.

:11:28. > :11:32.The first couple of games, she was a bit overwhelmed, nervous, and she

:11:33. > :11:42.didn't look it but her arm was tight. Velocity on his serve and she

:11:43. > :12:00.is looking self-assured. -- her serve.

:12:01. > :12:10.She probably didn't need sat nav to get to court 18, Venus, but this is

:12:11. > :12:13.her 19th Wimbledon, and she is not normally away from Centre Court or

:12:14. > :12:26.Court Number One. That helps the Greek, we feel. Just starting to

:12:27. > :12:33.spit with rain. A crucial time. The first bad shot choice that we have

:12:34. > :12:40.seen. Wondering if rookie errors would show up at some point.

:12:41. > :13:43.Long. Set point. The five times former champion.

:13:44. > :13:52.Nicely done. That had to be a very nervous moment for the 20-year-old.

:13:53. > :13:56.Just playing at Wimbledon has got to be overwhelming, never mind looking

:13:57. > :13:59.across the court to the five-time champion. She has got to keep that

:14:00. > :14:29.out of her mind and focus on what she needs to do at this point.

:14:30. > :14:36.First sign of a lack of composure today. Second set point. Getting to

:14:37. > :14:52.her. UMPIRE: Game and first set, Miss

:14:53. > :14:53.Williams. It has taken an hour, a very tight opening set, but Venus

:14:54. > :15:08.Williams comes through. Yes, she moved to Barcelona at 18,

:15:09. > :15:15.Sakkari, to train. She has been there a couple of years and she has

:15:16. > :15:22.a performer player as her coach, Puentes. They produce very good

:15:23. > :15:28.players in Spain and Venus Williams had a real tussle in that opening

:15:29. > :15:32.set. Experience won in the end. Just a little crack from Sakkari serving

:15:33. > :15:37.to stay in that set in the 12th game. That was really the first sign

:15:38. > :15:38.of nerves that we saw. A little overwhelmed with power beginning the

:15:39. > :15:49.set. Williams going to the next 24 times,

:15:50. > :15:57.that is cumulative pressure. Trying to come up with a passing shot or

:15:58. > :16:03.lob with precision. Six double faults is quite surprising from

:16:04. > :16:08.Venus compared to two aces. She has struggled with the first serve ball

:16:09. > :16:25.toss, as she did on Monday. She has caught it a third of the time, it

:16:26. > :16:30.feels like. So experienced. Battling her syndrome, fatigue being one of

:16:31. > :16:34.the worst elements of that. An example of what you can achieve if

:16:35. > :16:38.you change your lifestyle to deal with the condition. She is one of

:16:39. > :16:43.the eldest here, Venus Williams, but the appetite is so strong. The

:16:44. > :16:52.passion to play and challenge yourself. 36 now but at 35 she broke

:16:53. > :16:56.back into the top ten last year. Perhaps as impressive as the seven

:16:57. > :17:02.Grand Slam titles. Five here and two at the US Open. Williams to begin

:17:03. > :17:39.the second set. The chair umpire is from Serbia. She

:17:40. > :17:46.gave Venus Williams a time violation in the first set for changing her

:17:47. > :17:51.racket. Venus then served a double fault with the very next point. I

:17:52. > :17:58.imagine the look that the chair umpire got, she has probably not

:17:59. > :18:06.warmed up since! Venus had not broken her string that she wanted to

:18:07. > :18:12.change the racket. She even jogged to the chair to go and get the

:18:13. > :18:18.racket. Venus looking very surprised that she got the time warning. If

:18:19. > :18:26.she gets one for it again, she loses her first serve. She loses the right

:18:27. > :18:45.to hit it. Well done. She has grown into this

:18:46. > :18:49.match. She has a mainly played on the ITFs but she looks like she has

:18:50. > :18:50.played at this level for a while. Much more comfortable than you would

:18:51. > :19:21.think. Sakkari has qualified four times,

:19:22. > :19:26.and she has played in the ITF and she has got to the finals of a

:19:27. > :19:38.couple. Her best result was the quarterfinals at Istanbul.

:19:39. > :19:47.The good news is when you really start to dig deep in her results.

:19:48. > :19:53.She has pushed some top players. Navarro to three sets at the

:19:54. > :19:59.Australian. All but one of Williams's service games she has had

:20:00. > :20:04.break points. What she has got to expect is the pattern of a great

:20:05. > :20:22.champion. Every time bar one, Venus has raised her game.

:20:23. > :20:26.Both of those break points with tactically placed serves. Slices out

:20:27. > :21:04.wide to the forehand. Interesting to see how each player

:21:05. > :21:07.will be affected by that first set. Venus played much better with that

:21:08. > :21:32.positive scoreline. Perfect rebound for the youngster.

:21:33. > :21:34.Breaks Williams again. Will it be Sakkari who now feels so much more

:21:35. > :21:42.comfortable having that set under her belt against the top ten player?

:21:43. > :21:45.She is looking much more comfortable at the beginning of this second set,

:21:46. > :21:50.filled with more belief than she was at the beginning of the first. The

:21:51. > :21:54.way we have seen her think in that opening set, and she comes from

:21:55. > :22:04.Greece and they have a good history of thinkers and philosophers. Yes,

:22:05. > :22:06.Aristotle. They figure things out. They do. Doesn't look like she is

:22:07. > :22:33.going anywhere in this match but up. And look at that reaction. That is

:22:34. > :22:38.what you mentioned earlier. The second serve, first couple of

:22:39. > :22:42.service games, Venus all over it. But the reaction said, I have got to

:22:43. > :22:44.change that up. That is exactly what she said. I have got to go for it

:22:45. > :23:12.more. How calculated was that? I was not

:23:13. > :23:16.so sure when she invited Venus into the net but it ended up working just

:23:17. > :23:43.fine because the passing shot was so powerful.

:23:44. > :23:51.Sakkari has got to be careful that you doesn't lose length on her

:23:52. > :24:00.ground strokes and play more passively. Anything hanging and

:24:01. > :24:14.Venus. It to the corners. -- Venus will strike it to the corners. Two

:24:15. > :24:21.more break points for Williams. Three from five converted so far.

:24:22. > :24:43.Just the fact that Venus has had to save 11 is a surprise.

:24:44. > :24:49.The top of that left leg was strapped in the match on Monday and

:24:50. > :24:50.she looked like she couldn't put her full weight on that backhand just

:24:51. > :25:44.then. A couple of interesting situations

:25:45. > :25:47.in that point. The high lob that Sakkari didn't take out of the air

:25:48. > :25:49.was a real missed opportunity and you don't get a second opportunity

:25:50. > :26:25.in a point against Venus. That is what you do with a high,

:26:26. > :26:30.floating lob. She has only missed one of those dry valleys. It cost

:26:31. > :26:36.her her serve in the first set but other than that they have been rock

:26:37. > :26:37.solid. Such great technique. Both arms up for balance. Even with her

:26:38. > :27:13.shoulder. Another break point. Sakkari continues to use that

:27:14. > :27:17.interesting positioning on her serve. It is like a doubles

:27:18. > :27:21.positioning to get a good angle outright. She can also do a tea

:27:22. > :27:48.served and a body serve. -- T serve. She half stopped. She looks at the

:27:49. > :27:56.umpire. Probably the first time she has had Hawk-Eye and I think she has

:27:57. > :28:04.forgotten. She can use it. I think both times she would have been

:28:05. > :28:07.wrong. She is hoping. Three points ago and then that point, the shot

:28:08. > :28:25.from Williams was on the line. So good. And she planned it. That

:28:26. > :28:28.was superb timing. Taking a ball hard from across the court and

:28:29. > :28:33.redirecting it up the line with accuracy. And people's faces. They

:28:34. > :28:38.have been smiling for a while. Look at this young 20-year-old.

:28:39. > :28:48.UMPIRE: Let, second serve. UMPIRE: Let, first serve.

:28:49. > :29:00.Never paid Venus Williams before. First time at Wimbledon. She has

:29:01. > :29:04.belied all of that. That's good look in. Do you think she will be

:29:05. > :29:13.successful this time? You are not sure! I don't trust my eyes. There

:29:14. > :29:32.is a magnet to that line in this game.

:29:33. > :29:46.Made it! Williams breaks straight back.

:29:47. > :29:54.Packed at the start from any vantage point, it magnificent, historic

:29:55. > :30:00.court, number 18. Look how many want to get a view of this, getting up

:30:01. > :30:02.close to Venus. Very intimate court for the crowd. It feels cosy for the

:30:03. > :31:02.players as well. Incredible point construction. Deep

:31:03. > :31:09.and hard, and then slices over the net, drawing Venus forward.

:31:10. > :31:30.Very early on, it is a first meeting. She did struggle a little

:31:31. > :31:34.bit with the pace and bounce of Venus's serve but not since. Maybe a

:31:35. > :31:39.few extra nerves but she is dialled in now. I expect her to move up very

:31:40. > :32:16.quickly. Anguish from Williams. And the Greek

:32:17. > :32:22.just said vamos. Two more break points.

:32:23. > :32:33.Again the raising of the level. Not an ace but another unreturnable, at

:32:34. > :32:44.a critical moment. This is no break point number 16. Second serve to

:32:45. > :33:13.look out for once. SUE BARKER: What a fascinating match

:33:14. > :33:19.out on Court 18. We will be right back with it. Plenty happening on

:33:20. > :33:22.this busy day at Wimbledon. On Court Number One, Gregor Dimitrov has

:33:23. > :33:29.taken the first set from the 16th seed, Gilles Simon. 3-3 at the

:33:30. > :33:36.second, live on BBC One. On Centre Court, die Nishikori, -- Kai

:33:37. > :33:44.Nishikori, on against Julien Benneteau. That matches on the red

:33:45. > :33:54.button if you want to follow it. And they are up to 15 courts, which you

:33:55. > :34:02.can follow on the app and connected TVs. And this is one of them, Milos

:34:03. > :34:07.Raonic against Andreas Seppi. And on Court 16, is this a big surprise?

:34:08. > :34:16.One of the seeds, possibly going out. David Ferrer, two sets to love

:34:17. > :34:19.down against Nicolas Mahut, who has a wonderful grass court pedigree.

:34:20. > :34:27.But he has only reached the third round ones since 2006. He could be

:34:28. > :34:31.going this time. This is Andy Murray's part of the draw. Nicolas

:34:32. > :34:39.Mahut in charge on Court 16. And back we go.

:34:40. > :35:01.Four breaks of serve in a row. Sakkari back for the break.

:35:02. > :35:13.It is an hour and 20 minutes now. I'm sure her coach has told her that

:35:14. > :35:18.Venus has major issues with fatigue. Newly two hours on Monday. Just

:35:19. > :35:21.reading up about it, from one day to the next you do not know how you

:35:22. > :35:30.were going to wake up, how fatigued you are going to feel. That looked a

:35:31. > :35:36.little tired, footwork getting into position.

:35:37. > :35:44.A different seat for her mum, on the back row. What a wonderful seat it

:35:45. > :36:06.was, front row of the Royal box, watching Serena. Well deserved.

:36:07. > :36:13.Fabulous. She never looks nervous. She is either controlling it very

:36:14. > :36:21.well or she is phenomenal as a tennis mum.

:36:22. > :36:28.UMPIRE: Let, first service. I love the variation she is putting into

:36:29. > :36:43.her server. A kicker on the first. Thoughtful.

:36:44. > :36:51.And look at Venus's results this year. She won in Taiwan, but the

:36:52. > :37:02.highest ranked opponent she met there was number 61 in the world.

:37:03. > :37:17.Extending the lead, the first holds for the last five games. A little

:37:18. > :37:21.off the pace from last year, 2015. Remember, that is the year that

:37:22. > :37:26.Venus broke back into the top ten with terrific results. Quarters in

:37:27. > :37:31.Australia and the US Open, and the fourth round at Wimbledon. A lot

:37:32. > :37:40.more consistent. That is what she was looking for in the first couple

:37:41. > :37:46.of years after she let us know that she had been diagnosed with

:37:47. > :37:55.Sjogren's syndrome. I think every match she plays is a bonus. She

:37:56. > :37:57.still loves it and we love that she is still playing. A legend in our

:37:58. > :38:32.game. She has just gone off the boil. I

:38:33. > :38:38.continue to be impressed by Sakkari, just her attitude. Three qualifying

:38:39. > :38:56.matches to get into Wimbledon. She is in trouble here, Venus.

:38:57. > :39:05.Physically and mentally. She needed better footwork there. The

:39:06. > :39:19.expression never changes on Venus's mother's face. And that could be the

:39:20. > :39:22.route we see a lot more now. If you are Sakkari, you have to recognise

:39:23. > :39:39.what is happening on the other side of the court.

:39:40. > :39:56.What a backhand. A sharp angle. She is going backwards in that position,

:39:57. > :40:15.and still with plenty of pace. More break points.

:40:16. > :40:26.This impressive performance just continues.

:40:27. > :40:39.It is so impressive. A heady seat for Venus here. It is becoming more

:40:40. > :40:44.and more important now that she has grown into this match, Sakkari,

:40:45. > :40:48.taking on Venus on Court 18, such a different feel to Centre Court, with

:40:49. > :40:56.all the history. The court feels so at home for Venus. And it would be

:40:57. > :41:02.so foreign to Sakkari. Sakkari was 12 when Venus first won here. As a

:41:03. > :41:05.tennis prodigy in Greece, someone that was so passionate, wanted to

:41:06. > :41:13.play on the tour, watching the final. If you play on Centre Court,

:41:14. > :41:18.it is not only the court that is intimidating, but it is pre-match,

:41:19. > :41:22.when you walk on from the locker room, and you see the beautiful

:41:23. > :41:33.trophies, all the champions, and the elegance. The elegance of the room

:41:34. > :41:42.before you walk out is overwhelming. This is much more comfortable. Cosy.

:41:43. > :41:47.A double break cushion in the second set. Coming up to an hour and a

:41:48. > :42:01.half. Just a few spots of rain. Venus might want it to rain at this

:42:02. > :42:47.point. For a change in momentum. It is barely drizzle, but there is a

:42:48. > :42:57.bit around. She will need to keep our eye on that one. Sakkari, ten

:42:58. > :43:04.for 12 at the net. She comes in at the right moment, making the most of

:43:05. > :43:14.it. Shall we put it down? I don't think it is raining any more.

:43:15. > :43:44.Can Venus elevate her game here? And can Sakkari sustain this level?

:43:45. > :43:55.Sakkari needs to not think too much now. Stay in the moment.

:43:56. > :44:19.11th break point for Williams. She has broken four times.

:44:20. > :44:30.It isn't. -- it is in. UMPIRE: Miss Williams is challenging the ball on

:44:31. > :44:37.the right baseline. It took Venus are second to decide. A crucial

:44:38. > :44:57.point and it is worth the challenge. She breaks back. Three challenges.

:44:58. > :45:04.That was such a vital point. The importance of the double break. For

:45:05. > :45:35.Sakkari, the rookie... That is a good try. She had a lull,

:45:36. > :45:50.Venus, but she is getting it back together and pretty quickly.

:45:51. > :46:18.That is a great server. Only 95 miles an hour.

:46:19. > :46:32.So crucial for Venus to get back into the set and close it out in

:46:33. > :46:47.two. There has been a lull, mentally and physically. Williams gets close

:46:48. > :46:47.on the scoreboard. And it is interesting

:46:48. > :46:56.with Venus, the results that you mentioned this year, yes, she has

:46:57. > :47:02.won title, but in the first round of the Australian Open she lost to join

:47:03. > :47:09.a contact and I have seen her walk off the court with a beaming smile

:47:10. > :47:14.after losing, and that shows you that every match is a bonus. At 36,

:47:15. > :47:22.she is surprisingly self, that she can still play at this level.

:47:23. > :47:27.-- surprising herself. Also so happy that she was able to get back to

:47:28. > :47:32.this level because she was outside the top 20 for a year and a half or

:47:33. > :47:38.two. She was able to get back into the top 20, with a title in Dubai

:47:39. > :47:42.and two other finals in Auckland and Montreal. In Montreal, she beat her

:47:43. > :47:57.sister in the semis. And she followed that in 2015, even more

:47:58. > :48:02.impressively. The spotlight firmly back on Sakkari's end. A double

:48:03. > :48:33.break cushion now. It is a lot closer than that at 4-3.

:48:34. > :49:18.Her coach in the middle, in the white shirt on the right.

:49:19. > :49:25.A big moment here for Sakkari. One has a tendency, when you do not have

:49:26. > :49:39.a lot of experience, to want to back off. You have to maintain that

:49:40. > :49:47.aggression. That approach, she just backed off about 15%, an offer for

:49:48. > :50:18.Venus to get in there in time. The margins are so small at this level.

:50:19. > :50:27.Venus could have done more with that backhand volley.

:50:28. > :50:40.Especially because Sakkari is so speedy.

:50:41. > :50:53.A comment from the crowd put a smile on her face. And then that. I had on

:50:54. > :50:58.the ace count. Who would have thought that? -- ahead on the ace

:50:59. > :51:41.count. Not a bad idea, it looked like it

:51:42. > :51:42.would make Venus moves at the furthest distance but she could not

:51:43. > :51:54.execute. Such a pressure filled game. Venus

:51:55. > :52:08.has done this a million times. It is routine for her.

:52:09. > :52:54.Great length. Very close. Just caught the line.

:52:55. > :53:20.It clear thought process. The kicker out wide to open up the court. Very

:53:21. > :53:28.important. An impressive holes. -- impressive holes. And Venus has to

:53:29. > :53:40.hold serve to stay in the second set.

:53:41. > :53:46.She has to use your legs and be explosive up and out. -- have to use

:53:47. > :54:03.her legs. It is notable, now that you have

:54:04. > :54:06.pointed it out. I wonder if Sakkari has noticed it. At this point, she

:54:07. > :54:24.does not want to give away cheap points like that.

:54:25. > :54:33.She has done that so well in this match and that was a mighty touch.

:54:34. > :54:50.This was so deep in the court. Look at the extension.

:54:51. > :55:00.Is that just general fatigue, is her leg saw? Or is it a mixture? -- is

:55:01. > :55:13.her leg sore. She's just not pushing up. Venus is

:55:14. > :55:26.saying, move. She has to keep her feet alert. An hour and 41 minutes

:55:27. > :55:30.now. In normal circumstances you would say, this is a second round,

:55:31. > :55:37.so what. It is Venus Williams and everything that she is carrying. You

:55:38. > :55:43.cannot get a better wide serve than that. Sakkari was in the park! That

:55:44. > :56:20.is called a wide serve. Sakkari is going to have to serve

:56:21. > :56:40.out the second set. It is a big question. Your thoughts?

:56:41. > :56:43.What must Sakkari think? Well, she struggled at the end of the first

:56:44. > :56:49.set to hold her nerve and that is where we saw the first cracks in her

:56:50. > :56:54.armour. A few unforced errors and we stop that she had a little break in

:56:55. > :57:04.her demeanour as well, chastising herself. Let's see if she can learn

:57:05. > :57:12.quickly on the fly. Let's see if she can do it, to learn to be a lot more

:57:13. > :57:16.consistent. Did you ever try reverse psychology, thinking, I am 5-4 down,

:57:17. > :57:22.I have to serve to stay in the set. It is much tougher when you are in

:57:23. > :57:26.front. I never did. I don't think I was making about the score as much

:57:27. > :57:31.as what I needed to do, just the next point, which was the only thing

:57:32. > :57:34.I could control. Coming back from injury I was thinking about a lot

:57:35. > :57:39.more of those things, too many of those things. Somehow as a

:57:40. > :57:44.youngster, early in my career, I was just able to think about the next

:57:45. > :57:54.moment a lot easier. That is why you were number one at 17. So this is a

:57:55. > :57:58.very big moment for Maria Sakkari. Serving for the second set against a

:57:59. > :58:18.five-time former champion here at Wimbledon. 5-4.

:58:19. > :58:38.Takes a little pressure off to get that first point. The first serve is

:58:39. > :58:49.imperative for her. She has used that served so well, putting

:58:50. > :59:09.pressure on that strapped leg. A clever serve. Clear thinking. She is

:59:10. > :59:12.learning quickly on-the-fly. Three set points. Sluggish movement from

:59:13. > :59:34.Venus. And it is just wide! I think she had

:59:35. > :59:42.two challenges. The referee is saying it is too late.

:59:43. > :59:49.She was not that late. Timely manner is what we say. I have seen

:59:50. > :59:55.challenges been allowed longer after than that. I have, too. And this is

:59:56. > :59:59.the first time that she has ever had challenges available in her career.

:00:00. > :00:08.Or at least something that is very new. And she was doing the fist

:00:09. > :00:19.pump, she thought she had won it. It is on hold. And now she has to put

:00:20. > :00:23.that behind her very quickly. Just her second double fault. Still set

:00:24. > :00:52.point. UMPIRE: Game and second set, Mrs

:00:53. > :01:08.Sakkari. She has done it! She has taken the

:01:09. > :01:15.second set 6-4! SUE BARKER: that takes the prize for shock of the day

:01:16. > :01:20.so far. We will be back in a moment. On Court Number One, up on BBC One,

:01:21. > :01:25.Grigor Dimitrov against Simon. He has taken the first set, Grigor

:01:26. > :01:30.Dimitrov, and he is about to take it to a second set tie-break. It is 6-6

:01:31. > :01:38.in the tie-break and you can see that on BBC One. Some results to

:01:39. > :01:43.bring you. Simona Halep, the fifth seed, semifinalist last year, and

:01:44. > :01:47.reached the final of the French Open the year before, no problems coming

:01:48. > :01:55.through against 36-year-old Francesca Schiavone of Italy. She

:01:56. > :02:05.got just two games, Francesca Schiavone. Disappointment for her.

:02:06. > :02:14.Simona Halep romped through. Another seed to go out the ladies, is born

:02:15. > :02:23.finalist, Karolina Pliskova. She has gone out to her very exciting

:02:24. > :02:31.Japanese opponent Misaki Doi. Used born finalist goes out. -- the used

:02:32. > :02:37.born finalist goes out. And David Goffin is another straight sets win

:02:38. > :02:42.today against Roger-Vasselin of France. 6-4, 6-0, 6-3. The talented

:02:43. > :02:53.Belgian, seeded 11, goes through. Nicolas Mahut is always dangerous on

:02:54. > :02:59.this surface and it has proved so today. He has put at the 13th seed

:03:00. > :03:08.David Ferrer in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. And back we go to court 18

:03:09. > :03:15.and the start of the third set. First serve from Williams into the

:03:16. > :03:28.net. Tracy, your thoughts going into the

:03:29. > :03:33.final set? So much of it depends on the energy levels of Venus. They

:03:34. > :03:38.really seemed to deflate in the middle of the second set. Not moving

:03:39. > :03:43.as well. Not pushing up as easily on her serve. She needs that to remain

:03:44. > :04:17.powerful on that shot. That was too good. It takes a number

:04:18. > :04:25.of shots. And on the Venus ground strokes, if she is sluggish with her

:04:26. > :04:26.movement, just half a step slow, Sakkari is penetrating enough to get

:04:27. > :04:57.Venus on the defence. Venus is walking so slowly between

:04:58. > :04:59.points. Speedy during the point. Aggressive with the court

:05:00. > :05:09.positioning, hitting the ball early, also important.

:05:10. > :05:32.Not much on that server. 81 mph first serve.

:05:33. > :05:38.Williams is only one behind on the winning hits and half the unforced

:05:39. > :06:02.errors. Solid start for Williams in this

:06:03. > :06:23.final set. Both taking their time. Nobody has

:06:24. > :06:29.moved from their seats, understandably. Just thinking about

:06:30. > :06:34.the mindset of Sakkari, compared to the beginning of the match when she

:06:35. > :06:40.must have had a lot of doubts. First Wimbledon and against a five-time

:06:41. > :06:45.champion. Does she hit the ball Western Mark can my game match up to

:06:46. > :07:09.it? She has answered a lot of those questions.

:07:10. > :07:19.Again a clever serve. She is way away from that put it in second

:07:20. > :07:23.serve at the beginning of the match. The body serve is so purposeful. And

:07:24. > :08:40.the slice to curve into the body even more.

:08:41. > :09:08.That took a lot from her. Super point.

:09:09. > :09:18.Great return. Venus walking very slowly. She is going to be looking

:09:19. > :09:37.for quick points. Well done! Both women established in

:09:38. > :09:58.this final set. The perfect wrong footing. We

:09:59. > :10:02.continue to see high tennis IQ from Sakkari. Vic Akers she has used

:10:03. > :10:18.extremely well and the wrong foot is always successful on grass to get

:10:19. > :10:19.that traction. -- the kicker she has used well. Last game with these

:10:20. > :10:43.balls. We talked about the resurgent year

:10:44. > :10:50.of 2014. Last year she was back in the top ten.

:10:51. > :10:55.This year has been quite patchy. 57 in the world this year from January

:10:56. > :11:13.the 1st. If I am Sakkari coat, I would point

:11:14. > :11:15.that out to my charge. Venus has had two Venus like results, winning in

:11:16. > :11:37.Taiwan, and the French event. This is just the ninth event for

:11:38. > :11:47.Venus this year. She has pared down her schedule as well. All of the

:11:48. > :11:51.ITFs that Sakkari has played, she has won 34 matches compared to 13

:11:52. > :11:53.for Venus. I know they are at a different level but they are wins,

:11:54. > :12:24.habit. Venus has really slowed down the

:12:25. > :12:28.pace of this match. Taking just about all of the 20 seconds between

:12:29. > :12:35.each point. Sakkari would like to play everything much quicker. She

:12:36. > :12:38.does everything quick. It brings back the question about the

:12:39. > :12:43.courtside clock. She has been given time violation for changing the

:12:44. > :12:59.racket but she has no idea what 20 seconds it's. Nobody has.

:13:00. > :13:05.Seeing the power and domination of Williams, is that when Sakkari has

:13:06. > :13:10.been given a chance to play, boy, has she? Looking a little tired on

:13:11. > :13:53.the last point. Just looking at the 3-set matches

:13:54. > :14:01.that Venus has played this year, she has played five and just won one.

:14:02. > :14:09.You wonder with this Sjogren's syndrome and just turning 36, if

:14:10. > :14:24.that is starting to catch up. She has been beaten but not by huge

:14:25. > :14:32.names. We have got to couch that with tremendous respect and credit

:14:33. > :14:38.for Venus for even playing at this level and dealing with Sjogren's

:14:39. > :14:43.syndrome, which saps your energy. Absolutely. She needs plenty more

:14:44. > :14:48.winners and less unforced errors to get the win. Look at the thought

:14:49. > :14:52.process here. There is so much for her to think about now, other than

:14:53. > :14:56.the simple task of winning a tennis match. Policing her entire life.

:14:57. > :14:58.Everything she eats, the humidity, the diet has got to change to deal

:14:59. > :15:19.with the problem. Needs more sleep. Elbow room only. The top of the

:15:20. > :15:24.broadcast centre as well. Is this going to be a major upset? Everybody

:15:25. > :15:27.wants to be there to see it if it is. Or will the great champion come

:15:28. > :16:09.through? This is why we love sports. It is

:16:10. > :16:12.like the Marcus Willis story. Sakkari, first Wimbledon, moves from

:16:13. > :16:22.Greece to Spain, trying to get better at her craft.

:16:23. > :16:33.Venus was already playing the US Open when Sakkari was born. People

:16:34. > :16:37.dream of success. The Williams sisters stayed wide awake to achieve

:16:38. > :16:52.it and I think Sakkari is in that vein as well. That serve looked

:16:53. > :16:56.wide. It has been called out. Very much delayed, the lines person put

:16:57. > :17:07.the left arm out to indicate it was wide. Made no call. Such a clever

:17:08. > :17:16.serve. Even though Venus knows it is coming, she struggles to deal with

:17:17. > :17:19.it. It is a love hold. A great serve, but the downside to the

:17:20. > :17:29.return is how long it was from Venus. She was much closer with the

:17:30. > :17:32.returns. Not looking quite as sharp. She is going to have to dig very

:17:33. > :17:59.deep to come through in this third. Venus and Serena didn't invent the

:18:00. > :18:15.drive volley but they have mastered it! How easy did she make that look?

:18:16. > :18:25.Again, short points are the order of the day now. Real urgency from

:18:26. > :18:36.Williams in this game. Burst of energy. Snap the historic win, the

:18:37. > :18:41.champion coming through? Where to point the lens? The camera men and

:18:42. > :18:42.women know the players so well. It is sometimes valuable to talk to

:18:43. > :19:23.them. An eight double. Beautiful timing. That puts pressure

:19:24. > :19:49.on Sakkari to do a little more with her return.

:19:50. > :20:03.So strong. We haven't had a break of serve now for a long time. Plenty of

:20:04. > :20:11.breaks were so much of this match but it is going with serve

:20:12. > :20:16.frequently now. They both have different hurdles to get over. Venus

:20:17. > :20:21.has got the fatigue. The higher it gets, the more she feels tired, but

:20:22. > :20:30.for the youngster, the hurdle of getting a great win. The biggest win

:20:31. > :20:37.of her career. This is all so new to Sakkari. She lost in the second

:20:38. > :20:43.round of the Australian Open. To Carla Suarez Navarro. She has played

:20:44. > :20:49.so few Grand Slams. Her third Grand Slam. She qualified for the US Open

:20:50. > :20:52.last year. She has given players like Suarez-Navarro a 3-set run this

:20:53. > :21:00.year which has helped for this huge task. She has been knocking on the

:21:01. > :21:06.door, but can she go through the door? These are the matches that you

:21:07. > :21:13.dream of as a little kid. Playing against that backboard for hours.

:21:14. > :21:50.Two hours and five minutes they have been hitting.

:21:51. > :22:05.One have to fight the nerves, the other has got to fight fatigue.

:22:06. > :22:11.Sakkari when asked who her idol was said Serena Williams, who she has

:22:12. > :22:12.not met yet. The bad news is that if Venus knows that she might have

:22:13. > :22:49.taken it personally! A fraction late. The first forehand

:22:50. > :22:53.in the point that Sakkari got was kind of short and mid-court. She has

:22:54. > :22:55.got to go bigger. If she doesn't go big, Venus will in the next shot or

:22:56. > :23:12.two. Again, the wrong foot paying

:23:13. > :23:39.dividends. Putting pressure on the left leg.

:23:40. > :23:49.Great returning from Venus. Applying the pressure. 12 break points for

:23:50. > :24:14.Venus. She has broken five times. Sakkari quick first step, terrific

:24:15. > :25:40.racket work. Core positioning critical. Venus on

:25:41. > :25:41.the baseline for the entire point, pushing Sakkari further and further

:25:42. > :25:47.back. Sakkari has got to try to hold her

:25:48. > :26:15.ground. Huge. A smile from mum. She is

:26:16. > :26:32.getting excited. That was a monster backhand. Monster first serve from!

:26:33. > :26:48.. Going kicker. -- monster first serve from Sakkari.

:26:49. > :27:09.It is long. The first break in the final set goes to Williams.

:27:10. > :27:21.Experience coming through. Just elevating ten or 15% when needed.

:27:22. > :27:44.She has that extra gear to go to. I wonder if Sakkari can rebound.

:27:45. > :27:54.31 of 46 at the net, for Venus. I thought it was long gone for anybody

:27:55. > :28:16.in women's tennis to be at the net so frequently.

:28:17. > :28:47.Just every now and then her footwork lets her down. Will this be

:28:48. > :29:19.expensive? Sakkari moves over. Venus has chosen

:29:20. > :29:33.to hit that T serve with slice. Crucial moments. Great length.

:29:34. > :30:00.Deceptive in flight. Really went after those forehands.

:30:01. > :30:10.Demanding to boss this from here on in and doing so. Slowly but surely.

:30:11. > :30:13.You have to feel like this is almost match point. Such a huge deficit in

:30:14. > :30:54.the scoreline for Sakkari. The net cord helping. I think it was

:30:55. > :31:32.going wide. I think you are right. She loses her first serve. She has

:31:33. > :31:56.been warned again. To the letter. As a result, look at this. More

:31:57. > :32:11.pace. She is angry. I don't blame her. I really don't understand what

:32:12. > :32:16.the umpire is doing. I have never seen Venus talk to an umpire. This

:32:17. > :32:21.happens rarely. I am on Venus's side, both times here. Maybe this is

:32:22. > :32:53.what Venus needed. One game away from the third round.

:32:54. > :32:57.The first time she got the time penalty was when there was something

:32:58. > :33:03.wrong with the racket. She hadn't broken a string, but she ran to the

:33:04. > :33:09.chair, got the new racket and got a time violation, over 20 seconds. For

:33:10. > :33:14.that to happen a second time, it is difficult to understand what the

:33:15. > :33:30.umpire is trying to achieve. And it was a deuce point. Sakkari, just

:33:31. > :33:35.taking a time out here, a change of scenery. She has done so well. It is

:33:36. > :33:40.the biggest match of her life. How much does she have left? She has

:33:41. > :33:47.been forced back, as you have been saying, Tracy, she has given up

:33:48. > :33:55.ground. Venus hasn't missed. She has the winner- on for Sarah ratio in

:33:56. > :34:06.her favour. -- unenforced error ratio. She has learned a lot. If she

:34:07. > :34:11.does not win this match, she has checked off a lot of boxes about how

:34:12. > :34:37.her game matches up against the best. Serving to stay in the match.

:34:38. > :34:53.Super. Hugging the baseline. And that is the difference. Sakkari lost

:34:54. > :34:57.that element. She pushed back to far and lost the velocity of her ground

:34:58. > :36:24.strokes as well. Venus had elevated them both.

:36:25. > :37:27.She is serving without question. Credit for that.

:37:28. > :38:13.Sakkari is letting us know that she just pulled up a little on that

:38:14. > :38:26.forehand. It happens when there is tension.

:38:27. > :38:43.What a servant! -- what a serve! She still has the energy. She sets up

:38:44. > :39:00.three match points. UMPIRE: Game, set and match, Miss

:39:01. > :39:06.Williams. Two hours and 24 minutes it took against the 20-year-old. The

:39:07. > :39:10.biggest match of her life. It will be enriching her life, this

:39:11. > :39:16.experience, but Venus Williams, Forte champion. Five times here. She

:39:17. > :39:20.is through. She was pushed today, and somehow she found an extra gear.

:39:21. > :39:25.She was looking tired at the beginning of the third set, but as

:39:26. > :39:33.champions do, they know how to dig deep when they need it most.

:39:34. > :39:41.Prolonged applause, and rightly so. A wonderful match. For both women.

:39:42. > :39:52.We will be seeing plenty more of Maria Sakkari from Greece.

:39:53. > :39:59.SUE BARKER: Venus Williams, what a match player. She has proved it year

:40:00. > :40:08.after year, and she is through to the next round. We're taking you to

:40:09. > :40:20.Court One. Gilles Simon is two sets down against Grigor Dimitrov.

:40:21. > :40:32.UMPIRE: Mr Simon is challenging the call. It looked like Gilles Simon

:40:33. > :40:34.was in big trouble here. But he has got a bit busier in this third set

:40:35. > :40:54.and he is on the brink. There have still been patches of

:40:55. > :40:59.brilliance like that from Grigor Dimitrov. He has used the unorthodox

:41:00. > :41:16.crop shot today. -- drop shot. Every chance that Gilles Simon might

:41:17. > :41:45.need that 2-page insurance document. He does have a double break, two

:41:46. > :41:59.more points to save here. Not any more.

:42:00. > :42:06.If we are looking for clues as to why Grigor Dimitrov has suffered the

:42:07. > :42:10.slump that has taken him out of the top ten, it is encapsulated in this

:42:11. > :42:22.contest, because the consistency has veered wildly. Absolutely.

:42:23. > :42:30.He was a consistent player in the first two sets, serving a high

:42:31. > :42:33.centage, patient from the baseline and aggressive when he got the

:42:34. > :42:38.opportunity. That has gone out the window in the third set. It has been

:42:39. > :42:49.erratic - unforced errors, poor shot selection.

:42:50. > :43:01.This third set has been about expecting the unexpected.

:43:02. > :43:12.The ball died on both players. I don't know if it was that or they

:43:13. > :43:15.were in the wrong position to begin with. It is a moot point. Three game

:43:16. > :43:38.points. The Bulgarian is still in there

:43:39. > :43:43.swinging. He is a former Queen's champion. He was brilliant in 2014,

:43:44. > :43:48.a few weeks before he made his way to the last four here. We have been

:43:49. > :43:52.talking about the win against Andy Murray, catapulting himself into the

:43:53. > :44:00.wild's top ten. And it looked as though he was catapulting himself

:44:01. > :44:21.then, but it has not worked out that way. ATP, -- ATP's marketing people

:44:22. > :44:31.are calling the newer players the next-geners. He is one of them. It

:44:32. > :44:39.is one of the beauties of sport that nothing is for certain. You can

:44:40. > :44:44.certainly testify to that right now. He has given himself a chance of

:44:45. > :44:50.extending this third set. However, it is the Frenchman, Gilles Simon,

:44:51. > :45:09.who has the opportunity to serve for it.

:45:10. > :46:00.UMPIRE: Mr Dimitrov is challenging the call. Hawkeye will tell us. The

:46:01. > :46:24.ball was in. He slipped and he still got away a

:46:25. > :46:38.sizzler. He hopefully hasn't hurt himself. He almost overextended,

:46:39. > :46:40.hyper extended the left knee. You can do that a little easier on a

:46:41. > :47:23.clay court. Two set points for a Gilles Simon.

:47:24. > :47:52.-- for Gilles Simon. And the 16th seed, much to the

:47:53. > :48:02.delight of his coach, makes sure that there is much more life in this

:48:03. > :48:06.contest. Dimitrov still leading 2-1. ARCO mac so, Simon, right back in

:48:07. > :48:12.it. We can update you with what is happening elsewhere. On Centre

:48:13. > :48:17.Court, Kei Nishikori is in charge, 5-2, against Julien Benneteau in the

:48:18. > :48:23.third set. The number five seed very much in control of that match on

:48:24. > :48:29.Centre Court. That is on BBC One. Milos Raonic, the number six seed,

:48:30. > :48:42.is safely through, coming through against the tricky Italian Andreas

:48:43. > :48:50.Seppi. 7-4, 6-4, 6-2. His coach John McEnroe will know plenty about that.

:48:51. > :48:53.But huge disappointment this morning for Britain's Heather Watson. She

:48:54. > :48:57.fought hard and had match points against Annika Beck. In the end,

:48:58. > :49:02.these long, testing rallies that went right through the match finally

:49:03. > :49:07.took their toll, and she lost 12-10 in the third and final set. This

:49:08. > :49:09.match was held over after rain yesterday, but ended in

:49:10. > :49:15.disappointment for Heather Watson, who did so well last year, coming

:49:16. > :49:22.within two points of beating Serena Williams. Heather Watson has been

:49:23. > :49:28.quite vocal in the past about Twitter trowels, and she spoke about

:49:29. > :49:33.it and got quite emotional in the press conference after the match

:49:34. > :49:38.today. You have had recent trouble with trolling and nasty stuff on

:49:39. > :49:43.Twitter. Do you think that today's result will lead to more of that?

:49:44. > :49:49.Absolutely. It is funny you say that, because I was just in the

:49:50. > :49:53.changing room talking about it. After a loss like this I am so angry

:49:54. > :50:02.with myself that I feel I need to punish myself. I don't know... It

:50:03. > :50:09.wasn't a good day. I just went on Twitter, and there was plenty. Did

:50:10. > :50:14.it, in some perverse way, cheer you up? Definitely not. Why would that

:50:15. > :50:22.cheer me up, people saying nasty things? But you deliberately looked

:50:23. > :50:26.it up. Yes, because I was in a bad mood. When you are in a bad mood and

:50:27. > :50:33.you bang your racket, it is because it is a bad thing. SUE BARKER: A bad

:50:34. > :50:36.day all round for Britain's Heather Watson. That is the news from

:50:37. > :50:43.elsewhere, but we are heading back to Court Number One. 2-1 dinner

:50:44. > :50:54.trough leads, and he opens in the fourth set. -- Dimitrov.

:50:55. > :50:58.Can he change the momentum here? It certainly seemed to be French aid

:50:59. > :51:26.while ago. -- a certainly, after a pretty erratic

:51:27. > :51:30.set, lost 6-4, he will be looking to reclaim his composure, Dimitrov.

:51:31. > :51:50.Regain his composure in the fourth set.

:51:51. > :52:00.A grimace on the face of the Frenchman. He knew that wasn't

:52:01. > :52:05.far-away. He has a face that tells lots of stories. A couple of hours

:52:06. > :52:44.reading it. That one, not quite so close. There

:52:45. > :52:47.was a fantastic moment in his press conference after the opening round

:52:48. > :52:53.match, where he assured everyone listening that he feared nobody. As

:52:54. > :53:01.he was saying that, Novak Djokovic walked in, who was next up on the

:53:02. > :53:06.podium. And he said, I don't fear anybody -- you don't fear anybody?

:53:07. > :53:16.And he answered, no. He is certainly trying to exude confidence. He has

:53:17. > :53:22.put himself in a winning position here. Gilles Simon has fight it his

:53:23. > :53:24.way back into the contest, however. -- has fought his way back into the

:53:25. > :54:13.contest. He has hit some good shots. It was a

:54:14. > :54:18.good, early move. Not the cleanest it, but certainly 100% commitment.

:54:19. > :54:52.-- not the cleanest strike. Remember the days when the average

:54:53. > :55:00.length of a grass court rally was about three shots? I think it was

:55:01. > :55:05.shorter than that, wasn't it? Simon has only hit 16 winners in the whole

:55:06. > :55:09.match. Some of those has been passing shot, so when the meter gets

:55:10. > :55:22.into a rally, there is no need to panic. -- when Dimitrov. He just

:55:23. > :55:56.needs to wait for the opportunity to go for an aggressive shot.

:55:57. > :56:07.It isn't as if she'll see mum, good a player as he is, playing with

:56:08. > :56:11.tennis's equivalent of a chainsaw in his right hand. There is not a lot

:56:12. > :56:15.of bite, but what he does is accurate. He will not chop you up

:56:16. > :56:37.the way that Dimitrov will at his best.

:56:38. > :56:43.22 unforced errors for the Bulgarian. Not time for a crisis

:56:44. > :57:47.meeting yet, but it is a concern. They have been playing for the best

:57:48. > :57:50.part of two and a half hours, a contest that spilled into a second

:57:51. > :57:56.day. We had just a few minutes last night before the rain came in the

:57:57. > :58:02.early evening. Grigor Dimitrov that much happier to carry on playing in

:58:03. > :58:09.the rain and Simon was. He goes fishing for a new racket. A little

:58:10. > :58:14.bit of drizzle at the start of this second day as well, but not enough

:58:15. > :58:17.to take them off the court. A couple of minutes of delay while they sat

:58:18. > :58:20.on their seats waiting for the shower to pass. Watery sunshine

:58:21. > :59:47.above Court Number One right now. Is it a little early to start

:59:48. > :59:56.looking at 5- set records? No. Simon has come from two sets down on two

:59:57. > :00:13.occasions. 19-11 in five set matches.

:00:14. > :00:29.The speed gun on server has gone for lunch! -- on serve.

:00:30. > :00:44.We don't need any statistics to enjoy that shot. A great point. Was

:00:45. > :00:49.that the right shots to come in behind? Be right shot to come

:00:50. > :00:50.forward, but it was a poorly executed approach shot. He didn't do

:00:51. > :01:03.enough with it. And again, this time on the

:01:04. > :01:12.backhand, and a break of serve at the start of this fourth set.

:01:13. > :01:19.Likewise, it is the right shot to move forward on. That approach shot

:01:20. > :01:23.probably only landed three feet over the service line and it wasn't

:01:24. > :01:30.particularly close to the sideline. With the way that Simon is able to

:01:31. > :01:34.pass, this is the approach shot from inside the court, foot over the

:01:35. > :01:42.service line and inside the sideline. It was a good shot from

:01:43. > :01:47.Simon but he should not have had the opportunity to take one and a half

:01:48. > :01:54.steps to his left and guide the passing shot down the line. All of

:01:55. > :01:59.sudden, we have got a match that looks like it could go into the

:02:00. > :02:04.fifth set. I think the tide has turned, hasn't it? If you were

:02:05. > :02:10.forced to go one way or the other, I think you are backing the 16th seed

:02:11. > :02:17.unless Dimitrov can start to find that consistency that he enjoyed in

:02:18. > :02:27.the second set. Just a little suck on one of those high energy gels.

:02:28. > :02:34.At times like this, you might look up to the coach's box for

:02:35. > :02:42.inspiration but if Dimitrov does that he will not seek his coach

:02:43. > :02:44.because he ditched his on the Monday before Wimbledon so he is flying

:02:45. > :03:07.solo at the moment and in clouds. Now it's time for him to have a

:03:08. > :03:08.change of racket. I don't think he has broken the string, just fancied

:03:09. > :05:51.a change of tension. The break of serve has been

:05:52. > :05:56.consolidated. One of the great things about Gilles Simon, we talked

:05:57. > :06:02.about him not having an awful lot of aces in his hand, no outstanding

:06:03. > :06:03.shots but he is durable, he makes the pips squeak, the absolute most

:06:04. > :06:19.of what he has got. From Simon's point of view, being

:06:20. > :06:23.down two sets and a break up now in the fourth, not much has changed

:06:24. > :06:29.with his game, it has been more about Dimitrov's dominance in those

:06:30. > :06:34.first two sets. And then the third and half of the fourth set, his form

:06:35. > :07:30.has dipped substantially. Simon had to work very hard to get

:07:31. > :07:34.on top of that double handed backhand, it was bouncing almost

:07:35. > :08:15.beyond range but he could reach just high enough.

:08:16. > :08:24.It is a contest that seems to be meandering along in its own sweet

:08:25. > :08:33.way right now, no great highs or lows. It is probably not working in

:08:34. > :08:37.his favour. Those spikes on the craft that we talked about in the

:08:38. > :08:41.first two sets not quite so apparent at the moment. He has to get himself

:08:42. > :08:43.out of the Doldrums somehow and he has do work it out for himself, no

:08:44. > :09:11.little codes from the coaches box. The Frenchman ended his Wimbledon

:09:12. > :09:16.run 12 months ago -- a Frenchman. He was beaten by Richard Gasquet in the

:09:17. > :09:18.third round. He is looking to avoid a similar fate at the hand of a

:09:19. > :09:39.Frenchman this afternoon. That is a significant drop-off. The

:09:40. > :09:45.first serve was where the Bulgarian was earning so much success in the

:09:46. > :09:52.first two sets. The first serve percentage is still good at 69% for

:09:53. > :09:57.Dimitrov but, when they have got into those baseline rallies, the

:09:58. > :10:10.unforced errors have really flown from his racket.

:10:11. > :10:20.APPLAUSE Of the out the extremities of the

:10:21. > :10:26.Frenchman's racket but it counts. Offers a little apology. They say

:10:27. > :10:29.that you pay for your whole racket so you might as well used it -- use

:10:30. > :11:06.it! That was a poor unforced error with

:11:07. > :11:42.Simon four feet behind the baseline. Not entirely sure there is a part of

:11:43. > :11:48.the Simon racket that he has not used over the part of the game. It

:11:49. > :12:27.remains his friend for the time being.

:12:28. > :12:37.A big deep breath from the Bulgarian. I do like the way that

:12:38. > :12:42.Simon engineered the double handed backhand. We have talked about it a

:12:43. > :12:47.lot in this match but the angles that he finds and the contortions he

:12:48. > :12:51.had to get the ball heading in the direction he wants. He moves up the

:12:52. > :12:54.court well when he gets the opportunity if the ball is a bit

:12:55. > :12:58.higher at chest or shoulder height and with a pretty short swing he can

:12:59. > :13:00.generate a lot of power which comes from your core and also your left

:13:01. > :13:28.hand with the two hander. If you were teaching youngsters to

:13:29. > :13:33.play the game now, would you teach them single handed or double handed

:13:34. > :13:35.on the backhand? It pains me to say but I would have to go for a two

:13:36. > :13:58.hander. Gilles Simon almost took the head of

:13:59. > :14:06.an eager ball boy! You don't want to start hitting the ball kids! That is

:14:07. > :14:12.not the route to go down. It can get expensive! And embarrassing!

:14:13. > :14:26.Do you still send a Christmas card? And birthday.

:14:27. > :14:36.It looked an awkward shot from Simon, but it worked out. And the

:14:37. > :14:43.reason for going with the two-handed approach now? I think because the

:14:44. > :14:47.surfaces are slower and more abrasive Andy Bull bounces higher

:14:48. > :14:53.and you can generate more power with the two hander and I think people

:14:54. > :15:14.move better these days -- and the ball bounces higher.

:15:15. > :15:25.But having said that, when you look at a backhand like Stan Wawrinka,

:15:26. > :15:37.that is pretty tough to beat. Gasquet's is not bad either.

:15:38. > :15:52.Credit to Dimitrov, really trying to hang in in this fourth set, he

:15:53. > :16:13.doesn't want to go down two breaks. He has played that shot more than

:16:14. > :16:31.once and enjoyed it. You were very much a single-handed

:16:32. > :16:35.sailor on the backhand and it worked out brilliantly for you. Was that

:16:36. > :16:41.always what you had done growing up? Was it something that was coached or

:16:42. > :16:45.just the most natural way? A combination of all. I think the

:16:46. > :16:50.servers as we grew up playing on work indoor courts the majority of

:16:51. > :16:53.the time, quite a lot faster so you were probably playing with slice a

:16:54. > :17:00.lot of the time and that is a much more natural shot with a one hander.

:17:01. > :17:05.But it is definitely about finding what works for you. In this day and

:17:06. > :17:10.age, to have a one-handed backhand at the highest level, it has to be

:17:11. > :17:14.an exceptional shot. Dimitrov's could improve. We have seen quite a

:17:15. > :17:20.few unopposed errors coming from his racket. But you think of Wawrinka,

:17:21. > :17:24.that is the best I have ever seen. Federer's has improved massively

:17:25. > :17:34.over the years, Gasquet as well, Nicolas Almagro. Dominic Thiem.

:17:35. > :17:47.You wouldn't have missed! A bit late on that one.

:17:48. > :17:51.If the ball boy's head had stayed where it was, it might be ringing

:17:52. > :18:44.right now but he got away with it. Wonderful readjustment from the

:18:45. > :19:05.Frenchman. The quickest of feet to get himself

:19:06. > :19:30.into position to fire away the winner.

:19:31. > :19:42.APPLAUSE And that is the bloke on the other

:19:43. > :19:46.side of the net at his best. It is good, controlled aggression, using

:19:47. > :19:51.the slice and making Simon hit up. He doesn't generate the pace and

:19:52. > :19:54.then he can dictate with a big shot down the line, get the opportunity

:19:55. > :19:56.to move forward and his technique in his volleying has been impressive

:19:57. > :21:11.today. Some great hustle in the middle of

:21:12. > :21:17.the rally from Dimitrov to stay involved. He uses the slice again.

:21:18. > :21:33.Definitely a tactic that Simon doesn't like.

:21:34. > :21:39.Break points have been few and far between for him since the start of

:21:40. > :22:08.the previous set. He squandered that one.

:22:09. > :22:19.The one server that was out at 125 mph, the second was rather tossed

:22:20. > :22:21.back at 82 mph and got the full treatment. 82 in the middle of the

:22:22. > :22:46.box and not a lot on it. Dimitrov looked like he was trying

:22:47. > :22:50.to run through that forehand on his way to the net but there is no point

:22:51. > :22:52.in running to the net if you are going to miss the approach. He

:22:53. > :23:36.needed to set his feet better. It has the sense of a very big

:23:37. > :23:38.moment right now. Not much has gone right for Dimitrov in recent times.

:23:39. > :23:51.Jan de Witt, Simon's coach. APPLAUSE

:23:52. > :24:00.And he has got the break, he has broken back in this fourth set.

:24:01. > :24:08.How significant is that? Just at the point we were thinking of sending

:24:09. > :24:16.him on his way at Wimbledon, we are maybe reassessing our judgment. That

:24:17. > :24:20.game, Dimitrov was patient. He didn't make unforced errors, he

:24:21. > :24:23.stayed in the rally and used the slice but I sometimes wonder if he

:24:24. > :24:54.is actually aware of what he is doing.

:24:55. > :25:05.Having shown the patience, 4-4, fourth set, the points are getting

:25:06. > :25:11.pretty valuable at this stage in a match and then he goes for a cold

:25:12. > :25:12.winner from three feet behind the baseline. It doesn't make a lot of

:25:13. > :26:16.sense. He has done it again and done it

:26:17. > :26:24.brilliantly. It is the disguised that Simon cannot read at the

:26:25. > :26:28.moment. There definitely seems to be a bit of a breeze coming down from

:26:29. > :26:33.Simon's end of the court because you see this drop shot and it has really

:26:34. > :27:50.held up. It just dies when it bounces.

:27:51. > :28:09.Well, well. Now where? Dimitrov is one game away from making the

:28:10. > :28:15.third-round of Wimbledon this year and all of the pressure is back on

:28:16. > :28:20.French shoulders all of a sudden. It certainly is and you can build

:28:21. > :28:24.pressure with your game and utilising the skills that Dimitrov

:28:25. > :28:32.has but there is a bit of scoreboard pressure on Simon as well. Down by

:28:33. > :28:36.two sets to one and serving at 4-5. There have certainly been some

:28:37. > :28:40.swings and roundabouts in this match. The relationship he had with

:28:41. > :28:44.Maria Sharapova when they dated for a while created a lot of headlines.

:28:45. > :28:50.In hindsight, among those who know him best, I'm not entirely sure

:28:51. > :28:55.whether it is great for him in terms of his game. He saw exactly what was

:28:56. > :28:59.needed to be the best in the world, exactly how hard Maria Sharapova

:29:00. > :29:02.worked to get to where she was but for some reason he wasn't able to

:29:03. > :29:10.quite translate that into his own game. I think the most important

:29:11. > :29:13.thing for Dimitrov really is to worry about what he is doing and

:29:14. > :29:20.really understand the way that he needs to play. You see performances

:29:21. > :29:24.like this and I think it epitomises why his career has been so erratic.

:29:25. > :29:28.It also epitomises why so many people think he has potential

:29:29. > :29:33.because he can played some great tennis but the highs and lows, the

:29:34. > :29:41.peaks and troughs, they are too extreme. And here we have last

:29:42. > :29:52.summer's quarterfinalist serving to stay in this year's Wimbledon.

:29:53. > :30:01.APPLAUSE And the semifinalist two years ago

:30:02. > :30:06.the edges ahead in what might be the concluding game. And that rally,

:30:07. > :30:09.there doesn't seem to be a lot of risk, he stayed in the point and

:30:10. > :30:13.accelerated on the forehand and it was still a couple of feet over the

:30:14. > :30:46.net. He comes in with great technique and puts away the volley.

:30:47. > :30:51.It has served him well throughout the match. He did a little hop as

:30:52. > :31:31.the ball did what it was told. Second serve at 80 mph, Dimitrov

:31:32. > :31:36.will be disappointed with that return of serve. Another second

:31:37. > :31:47.serve. Not the ideal time for a big gust of

:31:48. > :32:29.wind. It has gone long. Grigor Dimitrov is

:32:30. > :32:32.on the verge of the biggest win of his career since he beat Andy Murray

:32:33. > :32:44.in the quarterfinals here two years ago. He has two match points for a

:32:45. > :32:46.place in the third round. And just when the Frenchman didn't need the

:32:47. > :33:04.year to reappear, they reappear. -- the yips. And it has gone wide!

:33:05. > :33:09.How did he get that serve back? How did Simon miss it? We will need

:33:10. > :33:24.Hawkeye's confirmation. And their writ is. -- and there it is. And how

:33:25. > :33:40.they love it here on number one Court. The meter is through, beating

:33:41. > :33:47.the sixth seed, Gilles Simon. SUE BARKER: What a comeback from Grigor

:33:48. > :33:54.Dimitrov. He is going back to the locker room a winner in four sets.

:33:55. > :34:01.We are going to take you over to Court 18, where Angelique Kerber is

:34:02. > :34:29.1-0 up against Victoria Lepchenko. They are going down well. They are

:34:30. > :35:02.crisps. A good-looking pair. That was mis-hit on the return, and

:35:03. > :35:15.then curb snatched at a clear opening. -- Kerber. She's in trouble

:35:16. > :35:20.for the first time on her serve, 15-40. Just after that statement

:35:21. > :35:30.before the change of ends, you just recognised how few points. There is

:35:31. > :35:34.the head of women's tennis in Germany, in the pink cap. This is a

:35:35. > :35:37.great pick-up. She just slide that one, the racket under the ball, a

:35:38. > :36:08.very low bounce. She has had no success down the line

:36:09. > :36:13.from this end. That's deuce. No, she shouldn't walk home in one straight

:36:14. > :36:20.line tonight, should she? She should walk in a curve. I don't think she

:36:21. > :36:36.could manage. That's great stuff from Kerber. Never fear is a battle,

:36:37. > :36:48.Angelique Kerber. -- she never fears a battle.

:36:49. > :36:55.That's the only service game where she has been threatened and really

:36:56. > :37:02.gritted her teeth. She played some really good strokes after being down

:37:03. > :38:18.Two rather while shots in succession. -- rather wild. She

:38:19. > :38:20.doesn't get down as well as her opponent does in a position like

:38:21. > :38:55.that. Yes, she just had a little extra on

:38:56. > :39:00.it, Kerber. I like her footwork, she stays very low, a good, open stance.

:39:01. > :39:02.She gets her contact very early out in front, which enables her to get

:39:03. > :39:41.forehand crosscourt. The American staying in touch. She

:39:42. > :39:47.couldn't afford to drop that game. You don't often see two left-handers

:39:48. > :39:51.playing against each other, do you, Barry? It's unusual, but they don't

:39:52. > :39:56.like playing against each other. They spend 90% of the time playing

:39:57. > :40:00.against right-handers and constructing point into the

:40:01. > :40:08.right-hander's weaknesses, so there shots become a little less

:40:09. > :40:10.effective. The sliced wide serve goes into the strength of her

:40:11. > :40:18.opponent, so you have to just change the thought process a little, and

:40:19. > :40:23.sometimes it makes them a little more uncomfortable. Kerber, they

:40:24. > :40:27.have played each other seven times, and Kerber is trying hard to

:40:28. > :40:32.equalise the numbers, because Lepchenko won the first four times.

:40:33. > :40:39.Kerber has won the last three times. The last time was in 2014 at

:40:40. > :40:43.Stanford, a tight one, 6-2 in the third to Kerber. That is the longest

:40:44. > :40:54.match they have played against each other, 159 minutes.

:40:55. > :41:04.Talking about German players, Mona Barthel was also a very talented

:41:05. > :41:08.player when she came on the tour. She probably hasn't filled the socks

:41:09. > :41:19.that everyone thought she would. She's a player.

:41:20. > :42:32.The German, on the brink. She has been the dominant player since we

:42:33. > :42:37.started. That's nice. She is being a lot more effective in

:42:38. > :42:41.this second set off the serve. She is finding the corners and moving

:42:42. > :43:19.the ball more, not allowing Kerber to get into easy patterns.

:43:20. > :43:52.Again, just forcing Kerber to reach and be a little more end - range.

:43:53. > :43:59.They will serve for the match with a new set of balls, and that is going

:44:00. > :44:06.to be quite a task for the American here. To come back from that. There

:44:07. > :44:14.is movement of the crowd around the place. The stand, as we look to the

:44:15. > :44:21.right, and then the stalls, as it were, under the glass, and then the

:44:22. > :44:29.upper circle. I didn't have quite the right terminology. The stalls

:44:30. > :44:36.and the upper circle - now I know. Our sport is a theatre, is it not? I

:44:37. > :44:40.like that. Hi sometimes packed with drama, sometimes quite amusing with

:44:41. > :44:48.one or two of the things that we see. Players trying something

:44:49. > :45:00.different and inducing a smile from the crowd or whatever. So, he comes

:45:01. > :45:09.-- here comes the German shoot out. They usually Windows. -- they

:45:10. > :45:37.usually win those. Not if she serves like that.

:45:38. > :45:46.Well done! She hit two lines. She finally got one down the line and

:45:47. > :45:51.she hit the baseline as well. That's the longest rally in the second set.

:45:52. > :46:05.It will feel good for Lepchenko to come out on top.

:46:06. > :46:14.All that effort to throw it away on the next point. So easy a game to

:46:15. > :46:30.play when you are sitting in the commentary box!

:46:31. > :46:36.The coach of Kerber feeling pretty happy with the way his player has

:46:37. > :47:01.performed today so far. Just a little passable there on the

:47:02. > :47:06.first two shots, which allowed Lepchenko to get on top of that

:47:07. > :47:07.rally, then stay on top. Just pushing Kerber further and further

:47:08. > :47:30.out of the court. That's tough on the loser of the

:47:31. > :48:21.point. That brings things to match point.

:48:22. > :48:30.52 minutes, and the number four seed goes through. To tell the truth,

:48:31. > :48:36.there was an air of inevitability about the outcome really from the

:48:37. > :48:39.moment that it took Lepchenko so many games in the first set to

:48:40. > :48:47.really feel that she had arrived. She came looking a little flustered,

:48:48. > :48:51.and it took her a long time to clear her head, by which time her opponent

:48:52. > :48:55.was moving an extra bit out of sight. Absolutely, she was well in

:48:56. > :48:59.charge, wasn't she, Kerber? She looked like she was very

:49:00. > :49:02.comfortable, started well, and that is the difference in the match.

:49:03. > :49:12.Lepchenko was definitely a little out of sorts. SUE BARKER: A very

:49:13. > :49:15.dominant performance from the Australian Open champion and number

:49:16. > :49:20.four seed here cost of Angelique Kerber going through in straight

:49:21. > :49:23.sets. Henman Hill is filling up, everyone watching on the big screen.

:49:24. > :49:36.And the reason is that over on Centre Court Andy Murray is there

:49:37. > :49:46.for his second round match at against Yen-Hsun Lu. We are going

:49:47. > :49:51.over to Court Number One. Here is the new superstar of tennis, having

:49:52. > :49:54.won the French Open. She is very much in demand for press conferences

:49:55. > :50:14.and photo shoot, but she also graces the world of social media.

:50:15. > :50:20.This is my first tournament, and actually I won my first tournament.

:50:21. > :50:39.I am so proud of that. In Venezuela. This was last year here, when I

:50:40. > :50:48.reached the final and lost to Serena.

:50:49. > :51:04.I was so disappointed, as you can see. I have a very expressive face!

:51:05. > :51:35.This one is from Beijing, when I won the trophy. I was so excited.

:51:36. > :51:42.This one is when I realised I won the Grand Slam. I fell down and hurt

:51:43. > :51:52.my knee, and I still have something. It is bleeding here. This was a day

:51:53. > :52:05.in Paris when I finally got to see the sun and I wanted to take a

:52:06. > :52:17.cell-free. -- a selfie. SUE BARKER: And now you can see why she is in

:52:18. > :52:20.such demand. Today, she is up against tough opposition in Jana

:52:21. > :52:36.Cepelova. Our commentators Is already a little bit of pressure

:52:37. > :53:09.on several other's serve here at 30-30. -- at Jana Cepelova's serve.

:53:10. > :53:19.Not a heavy shot from settled over. She is under enormous pressure --

:53:20. > :53:56.from Jana Cepelova. But it won't be the last time you

:53:57. > :54:00.see that particular shot. She does it well on the grass, taking the

:54:01. > :54:05.hand of the racket, and that is a confidence builder for Cepelova. We

:54:06. > :54:11.talked about how comfortable she is on grass, having upset Halep here

:54:12. > :54:16.last year. She's not afraid to come to the net, Cepelova. She will mix

:54:17. > :54:18.in some slices, some drop shots, and it will be about whether she can

:54:19. > :54:31.handle the pace of shot by Muguruza. So far, the signs are pretty good in

:54:32. > :54:38.that opening game from the exchanges they had at the back because. There

:54:39. > :54:39.is a big difference in height - five foot six returning against the

:54:40. > :54:57.server from Spain at six foot. Muguruza has done a great job at

:54:58. > :55:04.developing every part of her game, from big serves, great returns, hits

:55:05. > :55:06.the ball so heavy, and her movement, another area that has improved so

:55:07. > :55:52.much in the last 12 months. She did a nice job against Halep

:55:53. > :55:57.last year, changing the pace on those double handers, not trying to

:55:58. > :56:02.beat these players with fire. That is so clever from her, because you

:56:03. > :56:04.will not beat Muguruza by trying to cut hit her. She likes it when she

:56:05. > :56:34.gets pace coming at her. Clever. She is not going to beat her

:56:35. > :56:41.toe to toe from the back of the court. She is introducing nice

:56:42. > :56:42.touches here, Cepelova, and she is carving out some early break point

:56:43. > :57:27.chances. And there is an early break.

:57:28. > :57:30.Fantastic. Back in. Is a big surprise here, Muguruza not ready to

:57:31. > :57:36.go, hasn't hit the ball that cleanly in these first two games. Cepelova

:57:37. > :57:41.is a player who plays better tennis on bigger stages and is not scared

:57:42. > :57:42.of playing the top players, does not get intimidated. She is off to a

:57:43. > :58:02.great start here. Again, the change of pace, the

:58:03. > :58:10.forehand slice, and she has put Muguruza out of rhythm here early.

:58:11. > :58:15.The coach of Muguruza since last autumn. They started working

:58:16. > :59:07.together right after the US Open. The points won on second serve will

:59:08. > :59:10.be important for Cepelova. She hasn't lost yet, but normally that

:59:11. > :59:35.is something that Muguruza is so good at.

:59:36. > :59:48.Unforced errors of the racket of the Spaniard. Kerber except then

:59:49. > :59:58.gratefully -- accepts them gratefully, 3-0 up. She has had a

:59:59. > :00:01.few days off to recover from that match against Giorgi, but it looks

:00:02. > :00:08.like it might have taken a bit more out of her. She is struggling with

:00:09. > :00:14.the change of conditions on Court One. It has been a surprisingly

:00:15. > :00:19.untidy start. She is causing most of this damage to herself. A lot of

:00:20. > :00:23.unforced errors, doesn't look comfortable on the court yet.

:00:24. > :00:30.Probably a bit of concern in the Muguruza camp. One thing she has

:00:31. > :00:33.struggled with in this early part of her career is figuring out ways to

:00:34. > :00:39.win when she is not playing her best tennis. In Paris, that wasn't the

:00:40. > :00:42.case, she played beautifully after the first set, didn't lose another

:00:43. > :00:49.one on the way to the title, but she has a lot of burly losses for a

:00:50. > :01:27.player ranked two in the world. -- a lot of early losses.

:01:28. > :01:39.Wow. Cepelova is playing well above her rankings. As we highlighted, she

:01:40. > :01:46.was 50 in the world back in 2014 courtesy of wins over Sam Stosur and

:01:47. > :01:51.Serena Williams. She lost to Andrea Petkovic in a final, having gone

:01:52. > :01:54.without a coach or trainer or anybody! She just went on her own!

:01:55. > :02:07.Isn't that refreshing? She says that if she wasn't a tennis

:02:08. > :02:10.player, she would like to be a CEO of a big company but I guess you

:02:11. > :02:18.already are if you are a tennis player.

:02:19. > :02:25.Wasn't that Milos Raonic's quote at the French Open? I'm the CEO of

:02:26. > :02:45.Raonic Tennis. Martin Zathrurecky, the coach of

:02:46. > :02:49.Cepelova. He is here for this particular one and he will be

:02:50. > :02:54.delighted that she has come the hard way through qualifying.

:02:55. > :03:11.Muguruza just looks a bit off with her reactions today. That swing

:03:12. > :03:16.volley was right up the middle, not a lot of pace and no depth. She has

:03:17. > :03:23.to start finding her targets and her range a bit better off the ground.

:03:24. > :03:28.That will bail her out a bit of trouble as the match progresses, you

:03:29. > :03:52.feel. The ball had a look and thought

:03:53. > :03:57.about it and went back on the Slovakian side and the Spaniard is

:03:58. > :04:01.on the board. On what you were saying about Muguruza, she does have

:04:02. > :04:06.some early round losses, second round exits in Stuttgart and Madrid

:04:07. > :04:09.before Roland Garros. She made the semifinals in Rome but not entirely

:04:10. > :04:21.feast and famine with results but a little bit of that.

:04:22. > :04:27.Last year after she reached the final here, she really struggled

:04:28. > :04:32.with the expectation of being a top player. She came into this

:04:33. > :04:35.tournament seeded 20th 12 months ago and did not win a match through the

:04:36. > :04:40.hard court summer in the United States.

:04:41. > :04:49.She started to get her game going again in the fall when she made a

:04:50. > :04:50.huge run in a tournament, reaching the semifinals of the WTA

:04:51. > :05:36.Championships. That is what she has to do a bit

:05:37. > :05:41.more of, sending it back at the same pace that it came. This is the type

:05:42. > :05:45.of play that helped her win the French Open and get to the final

:05:46. > :05:53.here last year. She was just so hesitant early in the match.

:05:54. > :05:57.That is not just her first ace of this match but her first of the

:05:58. > :06:15.tournament. That is some excellent serving. Over

:06:16. > :06:20.the lower part of the net, it rises about six inches as it goes out

:06:21. > :06:34.wide. But she has made an impact here early on.

:06:35. > :06:43.I watch a player like this, looking at the fact, she did have a few

:06:44. > :06:46.injuries last year but it does seem surprising, given the number of

:06:47. > :06:51.tournaments she ended up playing last year, that she could drop quite

:06:52. > :06:56.so low. And with the points from last year's Wimbledon about to come

:06:57. > :07:02.off, she is already inside the top 120 and playing well above that in

:07:03. > :07:09.this match so far. Is it just confidence for lot of the players?

:07:10. > :07:14.It can also be focus. Some players are intimidated by the big state at

:07:15. > :07:18.others thrive on it. She has not had many opportunities to play on big

:07:19. > :07:20.courts or against players at the top. It is nice to see her playing

:07:21. > :07:36.at this level. She is 3-12 lifetime against top 20

:07:37. > :07:43.players. Against top 50, winning 12 and losing 33. She certainly is

:07:44. > :07:51.playing a lot better than perhaps her ranking would suggest.

:07:52. > :08:02.Let's see if Muguruza can problem solved in this first set in this

:08:03. > :08:10.match. -- solve. Things are a little off in her game right now. Let's see

:08:11. > :08:12.if she can get her feet going and play with a bit more intensity to

:08:13. > :08:37.turn this around. And it will start with free service

:08:38. > :08:44.points and getting the service going. Serving now at almost 70% and

:08:45. > :08:46.that always helps her get some easy points. It is one of the big weapons

:08:47. > :09:16.on this surface. That is how to implant a question in

:09:17. > :09:42.a top player's mind, when you come up with shots like that.

:09:43. > :09:47.Perhaps the quality of the previous return throwing Muguruza off-balance

:09:48. > :10:26.on that second serve. What a surprising three points, two

:10:27. > :10:43.double faults after a return winner and Muguruza is in real trouble.

:10:44. > :10:53.That is clever. It looked as though Muguruza had fashioned a way out of

:10:54. > :11:01.trouble with a crosscourt slice but it wasn't to be. Are you more

:11:02. > :11:05.impressed with Cepelova or more concerned with Muguruza? Good

:11:06. > :11:09.question. More impressed with Cepelova. She has capitalised on the

:11:10. > :11:14.bad play but you still had to play well to get yourself in this

:11:15. > :11:15.situation. More winners than unforced errors, serving

:11:16. > :11:37.effectively. That is a good play for Muguruza to

:11:38. > :11:42.try to use, forcing herself to move forward. When you have a more

:11:43. > :11:48.aggressive mentality, to think about moving forward and playing your

:11:49. > :11:56.game, it can get your feet going and make -- makes you go after your

:11:57. > :12:05.shots more. What a shot! Put that in the highlight show. Just amazing

:12:06. > :12:10.feel from Cepelova so far in this match. Muguruza hits the ball pretty

:12:11. > :12:34.hard and low and she is still able to find this type of angle.

:12:35. > :13:00.That court Cepelova off-guard. -- caught.

:13:01. > :13:05.She improvised, she went for it and she got her reward but maybe an

:13:06. > :13:13.element of luck attached to that particular one.

:13:14. > :13:35.I missed forehand that started the rot. Even though we have got a

:13:36. > :13:42.challenge, this will be a break of serve for the Spaniard.

:13:43. > :13:50.Confirmed by Hawk-Eye. Paying the price eventually for a low first

:13:51. > :13:56.serve percentage for Cepelova, down at 43%. You are not going to get

:13:57. > :14:00.away with that for too long against somebody of the quality of Muguruza.

:14:01. > :14:05.And talking about the pace, it was interesting to look back to her

:14:06. > :14:09.opening round match on the 49 -- forehand side, I commentated on the

:14:10. > :14:16.match with mad arena and Djokovic yesterday and Mannarino was hitting

:14:17. > :14:20.his forehand at 71. There is not a big disparity between the men and

:14:21. > :14:27.women at times off the ground. Not from the biggest hitters. You take

:14:28. > :14:32.Muguruza, Serena, Madison Keys, they are clocking the shots but you have

:14:33. > :14:43.defined your range as well. Muguruza has not been able to harness the

:14:44. > :14:47.power placement so far today. Sam Sumyk, her coach, getting a little

:14:48. > :14:56.concerned on the sidelines. Who hit the hardest on the men's tour?

:14:57. > :15:03.Consistently off both wings, Stan. Be the most even in of pace --

:15:04. > :15:05.probably the most even in terms of pace on both sides. Dominic Thiem is

:15:06. > :15:23.not far behind. Cepelova challenging again. I

:15:24. > :15:32.thought there was some chalk. Your eyes don't deceive you. Someone

:15:33. > :16:01.should tell Cepelova, if you see a puff of white, it is on the line!

:16:02. > :16:08.Starting to look more comfortable out on the court. The key for

:16:09. > :16:12.Muguruza is to be dictating play, we have seen her scrambling through the

:16:13. > :16:16.majority of this first set so far but in the last few points she has

:16:17. > :16:23.been the player up on the baseline and balanced when she hits.

:16:24. > :16:41.Just may be a sign that she is finding her range here. Some safe

:16:42. > :16:50.heading in the previous point, up the middle of the court but that

:16:51. > :16:57.time she took it right to the line. -- safe hitting.

:16:58. > :17:04.A second test of Cepelova's nerve more than anything else. She has

:17:05. > :17:41.shown she has got the shots and the game but can she finish it off?

:17:42. > :17:50.She doesn't really have any other serve. Watching her play Halep last

:17:51. > :17:53.year, it was that slide serve them it puts pressure on you know your

:17:54. > :18:29.opponent knows what is coming. That is a tough error from Muguruza

:18:30. > :18:34.who had control of that point. You are right, she was just waiting with

:18:35. > :18:40.a forehand grip for that return, especially when there is some

:18:41. > :18:53.tension in Cepelova's body. You know the serve she is going for.

:18:54. > :18:59.No question Cepelova is tight, trying to close at this first set.

:19:00. > :19:02.She has got a big swing on that forehand as well, she has to get the

:19:03. > :19:36.timing absolutely right. Good, solid tennis here from

:19:37. > :19:38.Cepelova. She handled her nerves well and allowed Muguruza to miss.

:19:39. > :20:05.She has a set point. Ms Muguruza is challenging the call,

:20:06. > :20:07.the ball was called in. What a finishing shot on the forehand side

:20:08. > :20:17.from Cepelova. Perfection. And a stunning way to take the

:20:18. > :20:31.opening set. SUE BARKER: Are we in for a big

:20:32. > :20:39.shock here? Garbine Muguruza in real trouble. We will be right back with

:20:40. > :20:44.that. On Centre Court, this match on BBC One, there was a scare for Andy

:20:45. > :20:47.Murray as he was broken in his first service game but has broken twice

:20:48. > :20:51.since then and he is now serving for the first set but facing a break

:20:52. > :21:01.point himself. A real topsy-turvy match on Centre Court. That is live

:21:02. > :21:05.on BBC One. And over on Court Number Two, Bernard Tomic is up against

:21:06. > :21:13.Radu Albot and he is serving for the match. He took the first two sets,

:21:14. > :21:20.dropped the third but is now just four point away from going through

:21:21. > :21:25.to the third round. And Richard Gasquet is in some trouble, last

:21:26. > :21:31.year's semifinalist, seeded seven. He dropped the opening set to Marcel

:21:32. > :21:36.Granollers of Spain. That match is online and you can watch it on the

:21:37. > :21:42.BBC app, the website and connected TV. You can go online to follow

:21:43. > :21:46.other matches. Sadly, we have to report that a player has withdrawn

:21:47. > :21:52.from the Championships and sad to see the young Belinda Bencic of

:21:53. > :22:01.Switzerland forced to retire in her match. She was seeded seventh in the

:22:02. > :22:06.tournament. Her opponent with a qualifier from the United States,

:22:07. > :22:12.but Belinda said she could not carry on. She had an injury to her left

:22:13. > :22:17.wrist and she could not go on. Belinda Bencic is the highest seed

:22:18. > :22:20.to fall at this year's championship, the number seven seed is out but

:22:21. > :22:24.here the number two seed is in trouble.

:22:25. > :22:33.MARK PETCHEY: The number two seed starting the second set and she will

:22:34. > :22:35.be hoping to start it better than she did the first. She was behind

:22:36. > :22:54.quickly and could not salvage it. I love to see the energy from

:22:55. > :23:00.Muguruza go up. -- I would love. She is almost too calm on the court, she

:23:01. > :23:04.had to get her feet going. She is normally do intense, how she goes

:23:05. > :23:20.about her business between points. -- so intense.

:23:21. > :23:30.Again, that change of pace extracted the error from the Spaniard. That

:23:31. > :23:34.slice worked so well at the beginning of the first set and we

:23:35. > :23:37.did not see it for the last few games. A good shot for Cepelova to

:23:38. > :24:09.mix back in here. She held her position as long as she

:24:10. > :24:11.could, Cepelova, but couldn't quite get the grip she needed when she saw

:24:12. > :24:33.which way this ball was going. Again, that is just a rally ground

:24:34. > :25:32.stroke from Muguruza that she is unable to put in the court.

:25:33. > :25:39.She was living dangerously with a couple of net cords and the unforced

:25:40. > :25:49.errors continue here in the second set. Her coach, Sam Sumyk, trying to

:25:50. > :25:54.get the message across to her to start moving forward.

:25:55. > :26:06.Brilliant return. She has come up with some inspirational shots. And

:26:07. > :26:15.at crucial times as well. Fantastic from Cepelova and she takes an even

:26:16. > :26:21.firmer grip on this contest. Fantastic start, to get a break in

:26:22. > :26:25.now the second set. Interesting, the energy, just so different between

:26:26. > :26:34.Cepelova, who looks the more confident player, the more eager

:26:35. > :26:39.player. Just having a look at Muguruza, just a gentle look up

:26:40. > :26:47.towards her box. It was not really a long, hard stare.

:26:48. > :26:54.That is the style of tennis that she played so well here last year,

:26:55. > :26:59.looking to take control of the points early, using her power and

:27:00. > :27:27.momentum to go forward. She has just been too passive so far today.

:27:28. > :27:31.Good hands again from Cepelova but Muguruza did not read the spin

:27:32. > :28:06.whatsoever. She is picking up that return very

:28:07. > :28:10.well. It is one of the big changes in tennis, the serve, return, first

:28:11. > :28:14.shot because whenever you are practising, it feels like you want

:28:15. > :28:21.to do that three shot drill. Perhaps back in your day, you practised your

:28:22. > :28:26.serve and we just did that. Back in the olden days! It is so important.

:28:27. > :28:32.One of the biggest differences in this match is points won on second

:28:33. > :28:37.serve with Muguruza on 18% and Cepelova on 56%. She is ready for

:28:38. > :28:41.that return to come right back at her and played that shot and

:28:42. > :28:42.Muguruza is on her heels, just waiting, not reacting nearly as

:28:43. > :28:57.quick as Cepelova. The looks have become more frequent

:28:58. > :29:15.over to her camp in the last few minutes from Muguruza.

:29:16. > :29:22.You feel as though the result is that she has built up recently, this

:29:23. > :29:26.is not a situation she cannot overcome but it is starting to get a

:29:27. > :29:32.little desperate, particularly if she loses this service game.

:29:33. > :29:41.Too good again. She just seems to have a lot more time on the ball

:29:42. > :29:46.than we expected. Muguruza has been the player who has mistimed more

:29:47. > :29:48.shots than Cepelova and especially on grass we thought the power would

:29:49. > :30:09.be overwhelming from Muguruza. She has no rhythm out here. Cepelova

:30:10. > :30:33.is hitting it hard and flat or mixing in lots of effective slices.

:30:34. > :30:42.She gets a little square onto the baseline when she serves, doesn't

:30:43. > :30:45.she, Muguruza? That contributes to that flat hit. For someone who is

:30:46. > :30:48.six foot tall, she doesn't necessarily get up and over as much

:30:49. > :31:20.as she perhaps should. Another error from Muguruza on a

:31:21. > :31:47.shop where she was in position. -- on a shot. And this is danger time.

:31:48. > :31:57.Oh! That is gorgeous. Well, she's been given an opportunity on every

:31:58. > :32:10.occasion and she has taken them with aplomb.

:32:11. > :32:20.Cepelova, there, just see ball hit ball. The change of direction was

:32:21. > :32:26.superb. There was nothing Muguruza could do except stand there and

:32:27. > :32:32.watch it fire past her. It is an awfully long way back from here for

:32:33. > :32:36.the French Open champion. Muguruza's best hope is that Cepelova starts to

:32:37. > :32:40.get a bit nervous, starts to think of the occasion too much. She has

:32:41. > :32:47.been pretty flawless through this match so far.

:32:48. > :32:58.Better court demeanour, better energy. And she has timed the ball

:32:59. > :33:01.better, no question. Just looking at Muguruza off the ground, where we

:33:02. > :33:07.expected her to dominate in her opening match, she was hitting the

:33:08. > :33:12.backhand and 68. Today she is down at 70 mph on the forehand and 65 on

:33:13. > :33:20.the backhand. That has allowed her opponent more time on the ball than

:33:21. > :33:23.we expected. The timing has been off and those numbers would suggest it

:33:24. > :33:32.just hasn't been a clean match so far.

:33:33. > :33:42.The service feeds have also been down from Muguruza through this

:33:43. > :33:43.tournament. Her first marriage, she averaged five miles per hour faster

:33:44. > :34:08.on the first serve. There is a classic case again of

:34:09. > :34:14.that three ball routine you want to practice. A decent return from

:34:15. > :34:18.Muguruza but you see how quickly Cepelova was in position for it.

:34:19. > :34:25.Muguruza hitting the ball late, Miss timing it.

:34:26. > :35:11.Cepelova now up to 64% points won on her second serve. Would not have

:35:12. > :35:39.guessed that coming into this match. Well, it just continues to baffle

:35:40. > :35:45.everybody but more importantly Muguruza at this point.

:35:46. > :36:50.Well, it is exactly what Muguruza needs even though it is a fairly

:36:51. > :36:54.desperate situation. A quick service game here and just try and keep the

:36:55. > :37:05.pressure on to whatever degree she can. She has done so. Hold to love.

:37:06. > :37:11.Is that the first test passed in terms of a comeback?

:37:12. > :37:18.Well, Garbine really needed that. Easy game, giving her some

:37:19. > :37:24.confidence going into this return game.

:37:25. > :37:32.It is phenomenal, isn't it? If you had said before the match that

:37:33. > :37:36.Cepelova was going to serve 38% of her first serves coming in, you

:37:37. > :37:41.would have said this would have been pretty much done and dusted,

:37:42. > :37:45.probably around two and two, three and three. But far from it. She has

:37:46. > :37:53.shown some lovely touches and she has had those three top 20 wins. Her

:37:54. > :37:57.opponent today had four top 20 wins just at Wimbledon alone last year en

:37:58. > :38:01.route to the final. The difference has been substantial but it has been

:38:02. > :38:12.conspicuous by its absence in this match so far. But nerves can be a

:38:13. > :38:13.fairly powerful thing. Your mind can be a fairly powerful adversary as

:38:14. > :38:27.well. She has to overcome that. Is that a little gentle coaching

:38:28. > :38:34.warning? Yes, Muguruza just had the soft warning of coaching from coach

:38:35. > :38:54.Sam. Told to be careful for talking too much.

:38:55. > :39:02.This is where, if you are Muguruza, you want to make Cepelova play a lot

:39:03. > :39:08.of balls here. You never know when a player has nerves overcome them, the

:39:09. > :39:09.anxiety gets too much. They start searching for it. She's looking for

:39:10. > :39:26.her second biggest win. She beat Serena a couple of years

:39:27. > :39:32.ago in Charleston. A time for her to adapt a bit and put balls in court?

:39:33. > :39:37.But that is not her natural style, is it? It's not, but the pace has

:39:38. > :39:38.been off today. She has not played her natural style which helped her

:39:39. > :39:58.win the French. Some points are bigger than others,

:39:59. > :40:05.and that was a big one for Cepelova. Yes, she had control of that point

:40:06. > :40:16.as well. But Muguruza still has a second chance to break, here.

:40:17. > :40:23.That is a careless error, there. Well behind the baseline. The whole

:40:24. > :40:26.court. Oh my. Set it up dutifully with the

:40:27. > :41:28.return. That has got to be a positive sign

:41:29. > :41:30.for Muguruza, there. There's no question Cepelova is feeling the

:41:31. > :41:45.tension of trying to close out this match. And then she produces that!

:41:46. > :41:49.She has been impressive. If there has been any pressure, she has

:41:50. > :42:17.alleviated it with that quality shot.

:42:18. > :42:24.Was that drive volley the last chance for Muguruza to create an

:42:25. > :42:42.escape route from the trouble she is in?

:42:43. > :42:52.APPLAUSE It is very much an out of sorts

:42:53. > :43:19.Muguruza. Right on the cusp of getting right

:43:20. > :43:25.back into this match, trying to get some momentum and she stops it

:43:26. > :44:04.herself will stop bad errors in that last game.

:44:05. > :44:15.There has never been a good-looking missed drop shot! Is especially

:44:16. > :44:42.wide, right? It doesn't look pretty on any level!

:44:43. > :44:50.Well struck, but good decision to not bother to challenge. It was on

:44:51. > :45:06.the line by about an inch. Great return, there. Another one of

:45:07. > :45:07.those where Muguruza is just not ready for that return to come at

:45:08. > :45:28.her. Muguruza just giving that up.

:45:29. > :45:36.Everything going Cepelova's way dumber though, to be fair. Not sure

:45:37. > :45:38.how much she knew about that. But it was in a horrible position for

:45:39. > :45:55.Muguruza. It would be a good call for Muguruza

:45:56. > :45:57.to aim the majority of her shots to the forehand of Cepelova. That is

:45:58. > :46:05.the side that can break down. Keeps the match with a slender

:46:06. > :46:20.pulse. I don't know if you know why, just

:46:21. > :46:24.looking at the matchup in terms of height, six foot against five foot

:46:25. > :46:30.six, I don't know if you know white a net is three foot, three and a

:46:31. > :46:37.half foot high. I don't know. The great Collins in his book, basically

:46:38. > :46:42.a referee used to move it, the service line included and the net up

:46:43. > :46:47.or down depending on how dominant the service points were. In 1882, it

:46:48. > :46:51.basically became this height, Lindsay. It stayed with us ever

:46:52. > :46:56.since. I saw the NBA were actually thinking about putting the

:46:57. > :46:58.basketball net up because of the proliferation of bigger basketball

:46:59. > :47:05.players and everything else, but what it has shown in this match is

:47:06. > :47:10.that if you put the net up higher to stop the big servers, the smaller

:47:11. > :47:17.players would have two kids it a lot higher. Where she has struggled

:47:18. > :47:19.today, Muguruza, is the ground strokes. Absolutely, she has not

:47:20. > :47:29.been able to get to them. So what do you think, then it stays

:47:30. > :47:34.this height? Do you want to see it... What is your take? I think

:47:35. > :47:40.it's a good question because obviously the men and women have to

:47:41. > :47:50.play over the same net. -- the same height net.

:47:51. > :47:56.Keeping a fingernail hold on this match, Muguruza. But I do feel like

:47:57. > :47:59.if you raised it coming you would still benefit the bigger servers

:48:00. > :48:04.because of the high ball you would have to hit back and then it would

:48:05. > :48:06.be straight in their strike zone. So I think, having looked at it, I'm in

:48:07. > :48:24.favour of keeping it. Yeah, did not hit through that

:48:25. > :48:33.forehand again. Played it just too careful there, Cepelova.

:48:34. > :48:38.The coach understandably urging her on. He will know there are some

:48:39. > :48:58.nerves percolating inside right now. Well, I mean, having played poorly,

:48:59. > :49:01.trying to take the ball over the high part of the net from there just

:49:02. > :49:36.seems like a bad mental error. APPLAUSE

:49:37. > :49:40.You wonder, when there is such a big differential in ranking between the

:49:41. > :49:43.two players, whether it could possibly happen, but it looks like

:49:44. > :50:01.it is going to. Cepelova with match point.

:50:02. > :50:12.And she's done it! She does have a win over Serena Williams back in

:50:13. > :50:16.2014, but this, on Court Number One here at Wimbledon against the French

:50:17. > :50:26.Open champion, as to be the biggest win of her career. What a stunning

:50:27. > :50:31.result this is. It's the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

:50:32. > :50:36.French Open champion and a lot of people's favourite to win this

:50:37. > :50:41.tournament, last year's finalist, Garbine Muguruza, just did not show

:50:42. > :50:46.up today. She was a shadow of herself. Lots of unforced errors.

:50:47. > :50:52.That was a tough day at the office for her.

:50:53. > :51:01.Well, it was almost a year ago that she lost to a player outside the top

:51:02. > :51:05.hundred. So often the big champions turn up in the major tournaments and

:51:06. > :51:10.always reduced their best. It just wasn't the case for the Spaniard

:51:11. > :51:16.today. -- produced their best. She exits Wimbledon today. Trying to

:51:17. > :51:25.hide her disappointment. But for Cepelova, who had a wonderful win

:51:26. > :51:32.last year against Simona Halep here, continues her love affair with this

:51:33. > :51:42.place with a win over the French Open champion. It seems it is the

:51:43. > :51:49.time for that story to unfold. Lovely run for her. She battled

:51:50. > :51:55.through qualifying in impressive fashion, but none more impressive

:51:56. > :52:00.than what she produced today out here on Court One. Never in doubt is

:52:01. > :52:06.the look that she gives over to her camp. So, she is through in under an

:52:07. > :52:11.hour. Quite incredible. Cepelova knocking out Muguruza, the French

:52:12. > :52:16.Open champion, 6-3, 6-2. She's chatting with Gary Richardson. Many

:52:17. > :52:21.congratulations. What a fantastic win, the best of your career. Thank

:52:22. > :52:27.you very much. I'm so happy for this match. I played really well and I

:52:28. > :52:32.think I deserved the win today. You certainly did. Just how surprised

:52:33. > :52:39.are you to have won so easily. Very surprised. I didn't expect it in two

:52:40. > :52:43.sets. You came through Wimbledon qualifying. How many people were

:52:44. > :52:49.watching some of those matches, Wimbledon qualifying? My coach and

:52:50. > :52:54.some 200 people, but our family at home, I think they watch it. Today

:52:55. > :52:59.you were on Centre Court. Having come through qualifying where maybe

:53:00. > :53:04.just a few people were watching, today you had the whole of court and

:53:05. > :53:08.one. What a fantastic experience. Yes, last year I beat Simona Halep

:53:09. > :53:12.on this court and I had great memories, so I'm so happy. Great

:53:13. > :53:19.memories of beating Serena Williams as well. You know you can beat the

:53:20. > :53:23.top players. Yes, I know! I have beaten some great players and I'm

:53:24. > :53:29.very satisfied with this. Very well done, thank you. Thank you very

:53:30. > :53:33.much. She really is a giant killer, isn't she? We've seen so often

:53:34. > :53:37.before how players have struggled to come from the clay to the grass,

:53:38. > :53:40.Garbine Muguruza may be struggling with the pressure and expectation of

:53:41. > :53:44.being the French Open champion and the new world number two. But she

:53:45. > :53:51.departs in the second round and this young lady, Janacek

:53:52. > :54:01.-- Jana Cepelova has put out Garbine Muguruza, that is the story on Court

:54:02. > :54:06.Number One. Over on Centre Court, Andy Murray in action. He was a

:54:07. > :54:09.break down in the first set but normal service resumed come he won

:54:10. > :54:14.it and he is a break-up in the second set, leading 4-2. If you want

:54:15. > :54:20.to watch that, it is on BBC One. I can tell you that today, the 25th

:54:21. > :54:25.seed from Serbia, Viktor Troicki, is not a happy man. He was locked in

:54:26. > :54:33.battle against Albert Ramos-Vinolas against Spain. Ramos-Vinolas was

:54:34. > :54:37.serving in the fourth and final set, it looks as though his serve is out

:54:38. > :54:45.but the umpire overrules. You can judge for yourself.

:54:46. > :54:55.UMPIRE: 40-30. SHOUTING

:54:56. > :55:02.That was in! Look at it! What? What! Look at it! Trying to show him there

:55:03. > :55:10.is no white mark on the ball, so it did clip the line. What are you

:55:11. > :55:23.doing? Did you see the ball? You saw it! Then a warning for bad conduct,

:55:24. > :55:36.but it means that it gives Albert Ramos-Vinolas match point.

:55:37. > :55:45.That is the match over, and the umpire from Italy who is in the

:55:46. > :55:52.chair, it's not over for him yet, because Viktor Troicki still has

:55:53. > :55:57.some words for him. Ever! Do you know what you did? Do you know what

:55:58. > :56:06.you did? Do you know what you did? You are horrible!

:56:07. > :56:16.BOOING What are you doing? What are you

:56:17. > :56:22.doing? What are you doing here! Well, it went on for quite some

:56:23. > :56:28.time. Obviously so disappointed. 6-3 in the third and final set. It made

:56:29. > :56:32.the difference, it gave the Spaniard match point. Viktor Troicki went

:56:33. > :56:36.straight from Court 17 into the referee's office and I think we will

:56:37. > :56:41.hear more from that. That is the story on Court 17 but from here we

:56:42. > :56:48.are heading to Court Eighteen, where the Eastbourne champion Dominika

:56:49. > :56:53.Cibulkova is facing Daria Gavrilova from Australia. It is 1-1 in the

:56:54. > :56:57.second set and we can join our commentators. It is crisp broom and

:56:58. > :57:16.Guy McCrea. COMMENTATOR: A better first serve

:57:17. > :57:24.from Gavrilova. It's been a key aspect of this game. When the first

:57:25. > :57:37.serve has gone in, the points have been so much easier for her.

:57:38. > :57:45.It is a key period in the match, this one, at the moment. Gavrilova

:57:46. > :57:50.battling away, trying to get a foothold in more of these neutral

:57:51. > :57:55.rallies, if you like. Trying to get the right balance. Looking to be

:57:56. > :57:59.aggressive but not overly so. Of course you always know what you're

:58:00. > :58:11.going to get from Cibulkova, the aggression. And she holds. Gavrilova

:58:12. > :58:22.keeps her nose in front in this second set, 2-1 she leads.

:58:23. > :58:33.Yeah, it's a fascinating period of the match. In Gavrilova's team, and

:58:34. > :58:37.Nicole Pratt, they make a lot of use of the on court coaching. Of course

:58:38. > :58:41.you don't have that at grand slam events and she is having to think

:58:42. > :58:45.her way through against an opponent who is in good touch here. Trying to

:58:46. > :58:55.strike that balance a little bit and not be overly aggressive. Try and

:58:56. > :59:00.mix it up. It's a big problem for her, the first serve percentage

:59:01. > :59:06.below 45. To get cheap points but also to allow her to build points

:59:07. > :59:11.and get her on the first right. You mentioned the on court coaching. She

:59:12. > :59:18.was US Open junior champion in 2010. But she's up against the lady who

:59:19. > :59:24.won Eastbourne last week. Two of them coming this season. A real

:59:25. > :59:30.battle out there for the youngster, but she's done really well thus far.

:59:31. > :59:50.She had the early lead in the first set and just let it slip.

:59:51. > :00:02.Well, she was on to the drop shot. She couldn't execute the return.

:00:03. > :00:09.Hence the little hop at the end. She's so fast, that's the thing. She

:00:10. > :00:31.got there in good time. Just lacking the execution at the end.

:00:32. > :01:41.And she went after that. It was some way wide of the mark.

:01:42. > :01:49.They don't get much better than that. She played a drop shot in the

:01:50. > :01:55.first set, Cibulkova, that was very good. This is exquisite. It is not

:01:56. > :02:03.the first time we have seen this ability to take all the pace. Coming

:02:04. > :02:07.across the board as well to get some good side spin. Such a good tactic

:02:08. > :02:08.in the early days on the lawns. She was not a long way off considering

:02:09. > :02:29.how far she had to run. Another good start for Cibulkova on

:02:30. > :02:48.the Gavrilova serve. Gavrilova thinking about the

:02:49. > :02:49.challenge but the chair umpire was sure it was out so she didn't bother

:02:50. > :03:04.going with it. This is exactly what we have been

:03:05. > :03:09.talking about here. Gavrilova there is a bit of emotion there now. It is

:03:10. > :03:11.all about choosing the right moment to attack and that was not the right

:03:12. > :03:36.moment of that return, clearly. She is just losing it a bit

:03:37. > :03:40.mentally. She was absolutely trying to hit the cover off the ball on

:03:41. > :04:08.those forehands. Just chuntering away to herself.

:04:09. > :04:18.What a way to break. It is driven down the line from Cibulkova. The

:04:19. > :04:23.third opportunity she has had to break in this set. It is the first

:04:24. > :04:26.time she has taken it. Cibulkova leads by five games to two, having

:04:27. > :04:38.taken the first set 6-3. Dominika Cibulkova doing a much

:04:39. > :04:42.better job at the moment of choosing the right moment to be aggressive.

:04:43. > :04:48.She is naturally a more aggressive player. You go back a few years when

:04:49. > :04:53.she worked with denarius Safina's former coach. He arguably made her a

:04:54. > :04:58.bit to aggressive. But what they are doing now is they are tempering it a

:04:59. > :05:05.bit more, they are building the rallies more. She is obviously a few

:05:06. > :05:12.years older than her opponent. There is some of the team. She has brought

:05:13. > :05:24.on a new mental coach and also a new physical coach to the team. They are

:05:25. > :05:31.just trying to get her to be little less harsh on herself at times, and

:05:32. > :05:57.just look to build and be a bit more patient in rallies.

:05:58. > :06:05.Just from gavel over's mental state of mind, I think she needs to start

:06:06. > :06:07.winning some points to stop herself beating herself up -- Gavrilova's

:06:08. > :06:27.mind. That is now ten points on the bounce

:06:28. > :07:00.for Cibulkova. It is not getting any better I am

:07:01. > :07:04.afraid for a Gavrilova perspective. I am very impressed with how

:07:05. > :07:07.Cibulkova has served in this match. There was some issues in these far

:07:08. > :07:20.end with the breeze swirling around. He is a bit of a rising star. And a

:07:21. > :07:55.point at last for Gavrilova. This is a good test for her going

:07:56. > :09:12.forward against a very good player. It has finally taken its toll. She

:09:13. > :09:18.slams the racket into the turf. The officials always worn the players

:09:19. > :09:23.about the fact of taking care of the grass and surface. That was coming,

:09:24. > :10:10.frankly. It is the way the match has gone away from her.

:10:11. > :10:17.You can argue that you have to have the opportunity to change things up

:10:18. > :10:18.but I think the numbers could have been higher with the relative

:10:19. > :10:38.struggles to land the first serve Try as she might, she could not stay

:10:39. > :11:53.in the point. Oh, yes! A wonderful shot from

:11:54. > :11:58.Cibulkova. There is a chance here for a double break. She really

:11:59. > :12:01.invested in getting the returning to play. She did not have many options.

:12:02. > :12:25.Cibulkova getting down to the past. A challenge, is it?

:12:26. > :12:27.UMPIRE: Too late. She is being told it is too late. That will not

:12:28. > :12:57.improve her state of mind. Oh, yes! What a brave shot. Facing

:12:58. > :13:07.double break points in this second set. If she is going to have the

:13:08. > :13:09.recovery here, she is leaving it late but giving Cibulkova a taste of

:13:10. > :13:21.her own medicine there. We saw an exquisite drop shot from

:13:22. > :14:17.Cibulkova earlier in this set. Excellent response and a round of

:14:18. > :14:20.applause from the coach. It is almost as if the confusion from the

:14:21. > :14:44.chair umpire spurred her on. She is feisty. After the first round

:14:45. > :14:51.win she talked about going forward, trying to channel, how should we put

:14:52. > :15:12.this, the feistiness of Lleyton Hewitt on the court.

:15:13. > :15:20.I think that is why the Australians have taken to her. She was Russian

:15:21. > :15:27.originally. Head challenges have been poor. I think this one could be

:15:28. > :16:04.another one which is long. She lost a couple early on in the match.

:16:05. > :16:09.The line judge called it out so it was a double call from the chair as

:16:10. > :16:56.well. Gavrilova's shot was out. So, a second opportunity in this

:16:57. > :17:10.game for Cibulkova to break. What a first serve! As deep as it

:17:11. > :18:02.could be. He will ask for the ball to be

:18:03. > :18:05.replayed. The fact is, it will always be replayed in that

:18:06. > :18:43.situation, she got a racket on it, got a play.

:18:44. > :18:51.Third break point opportunity. The umpire is really involved in this

:18:52. > :18:53.game. I don't think I have ever seen a chair umpire being so involved.

:18:54. > :19:49.Certainly not in one game. The longest rally of the match

:19:50. > :19:55.results in Cibulkova securing the double break. And surely her

:19:56. > :20:04.passport into the next round. She has still got to serve it out. What

:20:05. > :20:11.a game that was! The longest game of the match. Brilliant fighting

:20:12. > :20:16.qualities from both players. But in the end, it is Cibulkova who

:20:17. > :20:21.prevails. So impressive here. She had to win the point to three times.

:20:22. > :20:29.Gavrilova looking to take the pace. She talked about how much she loved

:20:30. > :20:36.camping in that backhand corner. And you get the feeling here that that

:20:37. > :20:41.was the match, it can be a cliche to talk about it, but Gavrilova

:20:42. > :20:45.invested so much in that game. It will be difficult to summon up the

:20:46. > :20:59.effort now required to get back into this. It is a long road back. Almost

:21:00. > :21:50.impossible. Lovely! Beautifully constructed

:21:51. > :21:55.point. She has just been a bit smarter overall here. Again, looking

:21:56. > :22:21.to get forward. Choosing the right moment to attack, to be aggressive.

:22:22. > :22:27.And the fight scenes to have gone from Gavrilova. It is interesting

:22:28. > :22:33.because Cibulkova was asked about grass courts. It has never

:22:34. > :22:35.traditionally been a surface she enjoyed. Winning the Eastbourne

:22:36. > :23:04.title is a massive boost. Down the line again. This time on

:23:05. > :23:28.the backhand. It is three match points.

:23:29. > :23:39.And Cibulkova finds it at the first time of asking and is into round

:23:40. > :23:46.three of Wimbledon in straight sets! 6-3, 6-2, she prevailed in an hour

:23:47. > :23:50.and 18 minutes. She will face either Eugenie Bouchard or Johanna Konta in

:23:51. > :23:57.the next round. A thoroughly excellent performance from the 19

:23:58. > :24:03.seed. Smiles all round. A quarterfinalist here in 2011. Can

:24:04. > :24:13.she match that go further in 2016? Yet to be defeated on grass this she

:24:14. > :24:14.continues to impress. Yes, I would go along with that. She will be

:24:15. > :24:27.mighty pleased. SUE BARKER: Yes, another confident

:24:28. > :24:34.performance from the Eastbourne champion. Andy Murray is a couple of

:24:35. > :24:40.points from going through in his second-round match on Centre Court,

:24:41. > :24:46.which is over BBC One. Johanna Konta is next on Centre. We will just pop

:24:47. > :24:52.into Court Number Two to see and yes the Radwanska, a former finalist,

:24:53. > :24:55.seeded three. She is against Ana Konjuh, the 18-year-old. Dan Lobb is

:24:56. > :25:28.alongside Liz Smylie. Finally she makes a good forehand.

:25:29. > :25:33.She has had so many an forced errors. She needs that winners count

:25:34. > :25:55.up and to force more errors of the racket of Radwanska.

:25:56. > :26:18.-- Ana Konjuh. Well played. She is fighting hard. She is hanging in

:26:19. > :26:28.there. It is one-way traffic. Radwanska, the number three seed

:26:29. > :26:54.full of toys. -- poll ease. This young lady has a bright future.

:26:55. > :27:04.Nicely done, good touch. Good anticipation there. This was the

:27:05. > :27:15.drop shot from Radwanska, coming under the ball.

:27:16. > :27:43.Lovely shot! You have to say that was a poor approach shot from

:27:44. > :27:50.Radwanska, but dealt with very well by Ana Konjuh. Not nearly enough

:27:51. > :27:58.penetration on the backhand from Radwanska.

:27:59. > :29:05.And then she follows it up with that, Liz!

:29:06. > :29:28.Well played, Ana Konjuh. She has a break of serve.

:29:29. > :29:36.Could this be a turnaround in fortunes? We would not have guessed

:29:37. > :29:41.it, would we, even five minutes ago? We know this lady on screen. She is

:29:42. > :29:45.a big hitter of the ball. She has a big serve and has hit some really

:29:46. > :29:50.nice drop shots. We keep getting back to it, it is the unforced

:29:51. > :29:59.errors which count. 25 to one is something which is hard to come back

:30:00. > :30:01.from. That would have been spectacular. This is the kind of

:30:02. > :30:08.player that gives Radwanska difficulties.

:30:09. > :30:18.Well, on this day when we have lost 15 seeds already, Radwanska down a

:30:19. > :30:24.break in that second set. If you want to continue watching it, you

:30:25. > :30:29.can do online or on connected TV. Britain's Andy Murray made his way

:30:30. > :30:39.to the third round, defeating Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei. He was a

:30:40. > :30:44.break down in the first set, but won 6-3, 6-2, 6-1. Written's Andy Murray

:30:45. > :30:49.through to the third round. Another wonderful performance from him on

:30:50. > :30:54.Centre Court. Let's hear what he had to say. Congratulations. Another

:30:55. > :31:00.straight sets win. How comfortable was that victory today? Well, the

:31:01. > :31:04.first set was tough. I went down a break early and then there were a

:31:05. > :31:08.lot of close games in the first set. I managed to hang on at the end of

:31:09. > :31:15.the first and had a couple of break points at the 5-3 game. I second

:31:16. > :31:21.down -- settled down towards the end of the second. Were you aware of the

:31:22. > :31:28.rain that was on its way? There were a few raindrops starting and the

:31:29. > :31:34.groundsman coming to the edge of the court and it is starting to look a

:31:35. > :31:39.little bit dark. Thankfully I had a decent lead at that stage when it

:31:40. > :31:44.came, but obviously when it's close and the rain is coming, you're quite

:31:45. > :31:50.anxious to get off. It was good to get it done before the rain started.

:31:51. > :31:54.No sets dropped so far. How conscious are you of conserving

:31:55. > :31:58.energy for the challenges that are still to come? I think everyone is.

:31:59. > :32:03.If you can win matches easily, it does help. You don't take so much

:32:04. > :32:07.out of yourself and mentally the days aren't as training either.

:32:08. > :32:14.You have spoken recently about how sport can take people's minds of the

:32:15. > :32:19.issues of the nation. We saw how Marcus Willis has live in the

:32:20. > :32:22.country in the last few days. Are you aware of the responsibility now

:32:23. > :32:29.on your shoulders over the next ten days? I haven't thought too much

:32:30. > :32:34.about that. I was just talking about Marcus's story really a couple of

:32:35. > :32:38.days ago. It's just great. I think everyone loved it. I think the way

:32:39. > :32:43.he handled everything was just unbelievable. The way he came out on

:32:44. > :32:48.the court yesterday and the way he fought and played was just great to

:32:49. > :32:52.see. I really enjoyed that. I think everyone who follows sport in the

:32:53. > :32:55.country and maybe a few fans who weren't into tennis before, maybe

:32:56. > :33:00.would have got into it because of him and his story. So that's really

:33:01. > :33:05.nice. I just try and do my best, work hard, and my head down and

:33:06. > :33:09.hopefully have a good tournament. Well done and we wish you the best

:33:10. > :33:11.of luck for the rest of it. Thank you.

:33:12. > :33:16.STUDIO He will be an slowly delighted with

:33:17. > :33:19.his performance today. I'm sure coach Ivan Lewis will and Jamie

:33:20. > :33:23.Delgado who were watching on well have been absolutely thrilled. He

:33:24. > :33:27.was aggressive on the practice court, wanting to move forward, and

:33:28. > :33:31.he certainly did that today. After that early break of serve it was all

:33:32. > :33:38.one-way traffic for Britain's and number one. They won't be going

:33:39. > :33:42.anywhere out there because Britain's number one woman, Jo Konta, will be

:33:43. > :33:48.out on court in a fascinating matchup against Eugenie Bouchard. A

:33:49. > :33:52.former runner-up here at The Championships. So, let's get a

:33:53. > :33:57.little reaction to that. Annabel is with me and gosh, he played well,

:33:58. > :34:02.didn't he? He did play really well. I think Yen-Hsun Lu is not an easy

:34:03. > :34:07.competitor at all. He gets a lot of balls back into play and he comes at

:34:08. > :34:12.you. He's had some big wins here in the past, like Andy Roddick some

:34:13. > :34:16.years ago. Once Andy Murray settled down, he really started to flow.

:34:17. > :34:20.When he got that first set under his belt he opened up his shoulders. The

:34:21. > :34:32.most impressive aspect with Murray is his movement. He is so quick off

:34:33. > :34:34.the mark, he can get to anything. The sheer fact that he chases every

:34:35. > :34:37.single ball, it pressures the opponent to feel they can do much

:34:38. > :34:40.more with the ball. He was really impressive. You add to that the

:34:41. > :34:44.aggression he now has in his game and it was ten out of ten. The ball

:34:45. > :34:48.must feel like a football, almost. He's just getting better and better.

:34:49. > :34:53.He's moved on his form even from Queen's and we thought he was

:34:54. > :34:56.playing well there! There are so many layers to his game. He knows he

:34:57. > :35:01.can pull in the reins and play defensively if he has two and just

:35:02. > :35:04.go for the long haul and take a match into a physical contest and

:35:05. > :35:08.outmanoeuvre people from the back of the court, or he can play with this

:35:09. > :35:11.new-found aggression which is something Ivan Lewis all brought to

:35:12. > :35:14.him the first time round. It has slipped back a bit and that is

:35:15. > :35:21.something we're seeing in his game. -- Ivan

:35:22. > :35:26.He can pull opponents into awkward positions and mess with their

:35:27. > :35:30.rhythm, make them play worse tennis than they are normally capable of

:35:31. > :35:34.playing. I love the slice backhand and the way he comes inside the ball

:35:35. > :35:38.and pulls you out of position and then can accelerate into the open

:35:39. > :35:42.court. There are so many things he does that are very subtle but you

:35:43. > :35:47.can't see it, but as an opponent it feels horrible. He makes you play

:35:48. > :35:49.worse tennis than you're capable of playing. He has so many different

:35:50. > :36:04.styles he's facing and the tactics, he has so

:36:05. > :36:07.many shots, he can use in so many different things depending on who

:36:08. > :36:09.he's playing. He has a wonderful tennis brain, that is the thing. He

:36:10. > :36:13.sees a tennis match as a road map and it's about how he gets from a to

:36:14. > :36:15.B. A lot of players on the tour can be quite one-dimensional, whereas

:36:16. > :36:19.Andy can adapt to what is going on. I think he looks very comfortable on

:36:20. > :36:24.and off the court. I think we're seeing a very relaxed Andy Murray

:36:25. > :36:27.these days, he seems at ease with himself, less ranting at himself

:36:28. > :36:31.going on. I just think generally he is in a very good place at the

:36:32. > :36:36.moment. He's playing some of the best tennis I've seen and I think

:36:37. > :36:40.he's playing better than when he won Wimbledon and the US Open.

:36:41. > :36:45.Absolutely, playing himself in to format the right time. 15 seeds have

:36:46. > :36:50.gone out today at the Championships and the highest to fall, Garbine

:36:51. > :36:54.Muguruza. Last year's finalist, the French Open champion, and she was

:36:55. > :37:02.really out of sorts on Court Number One, losing to Jana Cepelova of

:37:03. > :37:07.Slovakia. She has beaten Serena Williams before but now she has

:37:08. > :37:10.beaten the new superstar of the game, Garbine Muguruza. Everyone

:37:11. > :37:16.talking about her becoming the big star women's tennis, but Jana

:37:17. > :37:23.Cepelova has won out on Court Number One and that is the biggest shock of

:37:24. > :37:29.The Championships so far. Annabel, Muguruza didn't play well, did she?

:37:30. > :37:34.Full marks to Jana Cepelova, but Muguruza was not at her best? I was

:37:35. > :37:38.disappointed because I was picking her up and clearly there has been a

:37:39. > :37:41.hangover from being the newly crowned French Open champion, that

:37:42. > :37:47.much more expectation and pressure. She has so much poise and composure

:37:48. > :37:50.on the court and yet today balls were just spraying all over the

:37:51. > :37:55.place. I felt she just looked a bit flat out there and she just couldn't

:37:56. > :37:58.string it together. There were a few half chance moments. Matches are so

:37:59. > :38:03.interesting the way the scoreline goes, you get these pressure moments

:38:04. > :38:06.you take or you don't. She just wasn't able to capitalise on them

:38:07. > :38:11.and it just kept going in one moment away from her and she could never

:38:12. > :38:16.get herself back involved in it. Full marks to her opponent, who has

:38:17. > :38:20.beaten Serena Williams in her time. No pushover. And she has beaten

:38:21. > :38:24.Simona Halep here as well in the past. She's clearly not afraid to

:38:25. > :38:27.take on the big names and she enjoys herself out on the big court. It was

:38:28. > :38:31.still disappointing because I'm a big fan of Muguruza and should I

:38:32. > :38:36.think she is a big fan of the future. She just sometimes has these

:38:37. > :38:40.rocky moments in her career when she is up and down and fluctuates a bit.

:38:41. > :38:44.Last year she proved how good she can be on grass, so it has to be on

:38:45. > :38:48.her head and dealing with the pressure and expectation. He had a

:38:49. > :38:52.little bit after making the final at Wimbledon last year as well. Now

:38:53. > :38:56.everything that comes with being a star is hard to deal with. It is and

:38:57. > :39:01.it's hard to deal with that. Even with Eugenie Bouchard who is about

:39:02. > :39:04.to take on Jo Konta, we saw that exact same thing happened to her

:39:05. > :39:09.although I thought Muguruza got herself back on track earlier. She

:39:10. > :39:13.doesn't play with a lot of margin, Muguruza. Andy Murray has so many

:39:14. > :39:17.layers and games files he can go to, but Muguruza hits hard and flat,

:39:18. > :39:22.pretty low over the net and if it's not quite firing, she doesn't have

:39:23. > :39:27.this versatility in her game to be able to adapt. What I love about her

:39:28. > :39:31.game is how early she takes the ball. When you stand courtside, you

:39:32. > :39:35.will see her almost with both feet off the ground, she really jumps on

:39:36. > :39:40.the return of serve, the backhand is phenomenal and she has a big service

:39:41. > :39:44.weapon. But if it is slightly off like it was today, the balls were

:39:45. > :39:48.missing by quite some distance. I just thought emotionally she looked

:39:49. > :39:52.a bit flat, she couldn't get herself involved in it. Let's take you back

:39:53. > :39:56.to earlier today and a match that was unfinished because of the rain,

:39:57. > :40:00.Britain's Heather Watson against Annika Beck of Germany. I'm afraid

:40:01. > :40:05.it ended in huge disappointment for Heather. These are the sorts of

:40:06. > :40:08.rallies they had from start to finish. They both play a similar

:40:09. > :40:15.style, hard-hitting ground shots from the back of the court. Heather

:40:16. > :40:20.had some chances, 0-40 on the Annika Beck served with three match points

:40:21. > :40:26.and she wasn't able to take them. That was the match point, Annika

:40:27. > :40:31.Beck wins it 12-10. Only 12 places separating them in the rankings so

:40:32. > :40:35.we knew it would be close. A huge disappointment for Heather, who

:40:36. > :40:38.played so well last year here at Wimbledon and was within two points

:40:39. > :40:42.of putting out Serena Williams on Centre Court. It ends in

:40:43. > :40:47.disappointment today out on Court Twelve. Full marks to Annika Beck as

:40:48. > :40:54.she goes through 12-10. She's going to think about that a lot. She won't

:40:55. > :40:58.sleep tonight. She really won't, that's an absolute heartbreak for

:40:59. > :41:03.her. With hello, she's done very well on the tour and she won her

:41:04. > :41:08.third tour title and did well in Miami. She really wanted to take a

:41:09. > :41:14.tennis to the next level and do very well in the Grand Slams. Very close

:41:15. > :41:17.to her heart is trying to do well in her home Grand Slam here at

:41:18. > :41:21.Wimbledon. Everyone remembers that match when she was within two points

:41:22. > :41:25.of defeating Serena Williams. To have three match points and be that

:41:26. > :41:29.close to coming over the line, it's a crushing blow to her and she will

:41:30. > :41:33.be devastated. It hasn't been a good grass court season for her. I wonder

:41:34. > :41:38.how she's going to pick herself up from this and go forward. I think

:41:39. > :41:43.she's also someone who has fluctuated a bit with her results.

:41:44. > :41:47.With Heather, I think sometimes she tries to take herself out of her

:41:48. > :41:51.comfort zone, which is effectively being a very good defender from the

:41:52. > :41:54.back of the court. She tries to add more power to her game but she is a

:41:55. > :42:01.slight physique and she doesn't possess massive weapons out there.

:42:02. > :42:05.She does play a lot of 3-set matches, very hard-fought contests,

:42:06. > :42:10.and over the long haul that takes its toll on you. It's hard for her

:42:11. > :42:14.to get out of that comfort zone and this is just another really big

:42:15. > :42:20.blow, I think. It has become a big power game, the women's game. Out on

:42:21. > :42:24.Centre Court we see Jo Konta, another of the power players. We

:42:25. > :42:36.will just pause for the arrival of the players, Jo Konta and Eugenie

:42:37. > :42:42.Bouchard. And it looks as though Jo Konta has got her game face on. Not

:42:43. > :42:46.looking at the crowd at all, face down, this is business and she knows

:42:47. > :42:52.it's a tough match. It has become a power game and Jo has really

:42:53. > :42:57.improved so much. Big serves, first and second, and huge round shots.

:42:58. > :43:02.She really does. The backhand is absolutely phenom in. It's a

:43:03. > :43:07.world-class shot. I always look at the way Topshop coming through the

:43:08. > :43:11.court and Jo's is a very heavy strike. She gets it through the

:43:12. > :43:17.court and deep to the baseline and she can take opponents out wide. The

:43:18. > :43:21.forehand, which used to be more of a liability and more jittery, that

:43:22. > :43:25.seems to have disappeared and it's now quite a force, it doesn't break

:43:26. > :43:30.down. She has added a lot more angle on her forehand and she can really

:43:31. > :43:34.open up the angle out wide. The other thing she has added is this

:43:35. > :43:39.cheeky drop shot that she plays crosscourt. She used it in the first

:43:40. > :43:44.round against Monica Puig and she has a lot of layers to her game. You

:43:45. > :43:48.look at her draw and this is a really tough one, against a former

:43:49. > :43:52.finalist, although Eugenie Bouchard has been struggling with form. She

:43:53. > :43:59.has got no pressure on her this year, with no points to defend. The

:44:00. > :44:00.draw has not been kind to Jo. She needed to be impressive against

:44:01. > :44:12.Monica Puig and she was. COMMENTATOR: On pure ranking of

:44:13. > :44:25.course, Gunter should be the strong favourite. So good. What a start.

:44:26. > :44:32.The serving is really doing the job. She wouldn't have drained of a start

:44:33. > :44:35.as good as this. Konta on the brink of her first-ever win at Wimbledon.

:44:36. > :44:42.And boy did she finish with a flourish! A magnificent final game

:44:43. > :44:46.from the British number one. What does it finally mean to get that

:44:47. > :44:50.first win in the first round here at Wimbledon? I'm obviously very happy

:44:51. > :44:53.to still be in the singles event here, but I didn't quite put so much

:44:54. > :44:59.pressure on myself in that context. I have made the second week of

:45:00. > :45:03.Wimbledon in the last few years because of the Mixed Doubles! I have

:45:04. > :45:06.experience winning here but not on the singles court. I'm happy to be

:45:07. > :45:10.involved and looking forward to the next round. What are you most proud

:45:11. > :45:15.of in terms of how you handled the situation out there? How I stayed

:45:16. > :45:20.present and stayed calm and was able to enjoy the amount of time I could

:45:21. > :45:26.spend out on court but also keep it light-hearted off the court. Here

:45:27. > :45:30.you are now as the British number one. What do you think is the

:45:31. > :45:35.biggest difference between you last year and what we're seeing this

:45:36. > :45:39.year? I'm very much the same person, same player, same competitor. I

:45:40. > :45:42.haven't really thought much about the seedings and whatever external

:45:43. > :45:48.interest there is. I'm here playing a tennis tournament which happens to

:45:49. > :45:52.be Wimbledon, amazing, and seeing what -- enjoying what I do. You seem

:45:53. > :45:59.calmer. What do you put that down to? Hard work. I don't think there's

:46:00. > :46:03.any easy way around it. I had to work hard on channelling my emotions

:46:04. > :46:07.when they needed to be and also sometimes boxing them when they

:46:08. > :46:13.needed to be. It was continuous work. I know there is a lot going on

:46:14. > :46:17.and it's so hectic at a Grand Slam but have you had a chance to get

:46:18. > :46:27.away from the court, what do you like doing? I like eating! I have

:46:28. > :46:32.tried to get is good dinners. I actually also enjoy really mundane

:46:33. > :46:45.things like doing a shop and making breakfast. I'm making soft boiled

:46:46. > :46:55.eggs with pitta bread and hummous, I feel very gourmet right now! The big

:46:56. > :47:02.thing with her is not getting affected by the situation. It's

:47:03. > :47:07.almost as if a switch has been flipped. She has been working with a

:47:08. > :47:12.Spanish psychologist and she almost meditates at the change of ends. She

:47:13. > :47:15.said she does meditate. Tennis players have very active minds

:47:16. > :47:20.between points. It can be very negative and have an impact on you.

:47:21. > :47:25.But she tries to stay very present and in the moment. It has certainly

:47:26. > :47:29.worked for her. I think she just has it in perspective. She tries to

:47:30. > :47:33.think about how enjoyable it is out on the Centre Court for instance, or

:47:34. > :47:39.what the crowd are doing and how they are enjoying coming to watch

:47:40. > :47:43.her play tennis. It is a sport, it's just a tennis match, and she tries

:47:44. > :47:47.to put it in perspective. It has definitely worked for her. It's not

:47:48. > :47:50.an easy thing to do, it takes a lot of work to do mentally to keep

:47:51. > :47:54.working on that side of things. I think she is a hard worker and for

:47:55. > :47:59.most of her career she has been in the shadow of heather and Laura

:48:00. > :48:01.Robson, and all of a sudden she has risen through the ranks and

:48:02. > :48:05.overtaken both of them and here she is at the British number one and

:48:06. > :48:08.seeded for the first time at Wimbledon, but she has earned that

:48:09. > :48:12.position over a long period of time with a lot of hard work. Also she

:48:13. > :48:17.has handled the pressure so well. Coming in here as the first read

:48:18. > :48:22.since 1984 for Great Britain in the Women's Singles. I think it's

:48:23. > :48:27.because she has these kind of trigger things that go on in her

:48:28. > :48:32.mind and enable her to play in the moment, as Billie Jean King famously

:48:33. > :48:36.said. Easier said than done! I think she's very refreshing as a

:48:37. > :48:40.character. She's a ridding nice person and she's very popular both

:48:41. > :48:45.on and off the court. -- really nice person. People admire her attitude

:48:46. > :48:50.and professionalism and how hard she has worked to be where she is at. My

:48:51. > :48:57.goodness, it's been a meteoric rise, from 126 to wear she is in the world

:48:58. > :49:00.right now. It's been phenomenal. -- where she is now. And then she will

:49:01. > :49:05.have to work to defend the points, that will be tricky for her. This is

:49:06. > :49:09.her opponent today, Eugenie Bouchard, the finalist in 2014. We

:49:10. > :49:11.wonder which Eugenie Bouchard will show up today. It has been an up and

:49:12. > :49:21.down time for her in recent years. Mercurial sums up Eugenie Bouchard.

:49:22. > :49:25.The 22-year-old Canadian blasted onto the scene in 2012, lifting the

:49:26. > :49:29.Wimbledon junior trophy in both the singles and doubles.

:49:30. > :49:37.Just two years later, she stunned everyone by making her first Grand

:49:38. > :49:42.Slam final appearance here at Wimbledon. She was ultimately beaten

:49:43. > :49:48.by Petra Kvitova. But her aggressive style of play moved her up to fifth

:49:49. > :49:51.in the world rankings. And she was rapidly becoming one of the most

:49:52. > :49:58.marketable young sports stars in the world. 2015 saw a slump in form and

:49:59. > :50:03.rankings. She lost matches, went out in the first round of Wimbledon to a

:50:04. > :50:08.qualifier... Eugenie Bouchard drops out of the top 20 in the world. She

:50:09. > :50:12.changed coaches twice and finished the year with a lawsuit after

:50:13. > :50:19.slipping in the locker room and sustaining a concussion. Now,

:50:20. > :50:25.though, Bouchard is working her way back. Her star is capable of burning

:50:26. > :50:27.much brighter. Konta must be aware as they go head-to-head for the

:50:28. > :50:31.first time. STUDIO

:50:32. > :50:34.We talked about the pressure and expectation and that was it after

:50:35. > :50:38.the final and she did not deal with it too well, but now no pressure so

:50:39. > :50:43.nothing to lose? She had the honeymoon period where she sunk to

:50:44. > :50:48.almost rock bottom afterwards. There were matches that workprint she when

:50:49. > :50:51.she was struggling emotionally and she couldn't keep the ball in the

:50:52. > :50:54.court and control the situation out there. But she has won a lot more

:50:55. > :51:03.matches this year coming into Wimbledon than last year. Certainly

:51:04. > :51:05.tough. We can watch this now in the company of Tracy Austin and Sam

:51:06. > :51:28.Smith. Last night, Eugenie Bouchard was

:51:29. > :51:41.finishing off her first-round match on the Centre Court under the roof.

:51:42. > :51:48.So you would imagine that the 22-year-old from Montreal in Canada

:51:49. > :51:56.would be the first to get her bearings, because Jo hasn't been out

:51:57. > :52:01.here since last year when she came in as a wildcard and played Maria

:52:02. > :52:04.Sharapova on the Thursday of The Championships and didn't last very

:52:05. > :52:06.long. Back then nobody really remembered the match. Now she is one

:52:07. > :52:39.of the headline acts. This is the type of point that

:52:40. > :52:42.reminds me of Eugenie Bouchard's final here a couple of years ago.

:52:43. > :52:49.Very aggressive at all times. The forehand of Konta has really

:52:50. > :53:33.become a weapon. The black candles -- the back and was always the go to

:53:34. > :54:18.shop, particular crosscourt. APPLAUSE

:54:19. > :54:29.Well, that is the Bouchard brand of tennis, "I'm coming to get you".

:54:30. > :54:35.The key for Bouchard is that she really demands excellent timing when

:54:36. > :54:41.she's playing well, because she really doesn't have a plan B. She

:54:42. > :55:14.likes to hit the ball very early, which demands expert timing.

:55:15. > :55:22.We saw a glimpse of Johanna Konta's coach on the far right, there.

:55:23. > :56:23.Spanish coach. Very good second serve. Very

:56:24. > :56:28.difficult to attack, her second serve. She has beefed up the

:56:29. > :56:35.forehand wing as well in the last 12 months. Not quite up to Serena

:56:36. > :56:46.speeds. Average forehand 74 mph. But not far away. Just lifted up a bit

:56:47. > :56:49.on that one. She is just getting more freedom on that forehand and

:56:50. > :56:50.driving through the point of contact, really committing to the

:56:51. > :57:19.forehand wing. Full of confidence after a semifinal

:57:20. > :57:25.run down at the Aegon Championships last week in her hometown of

:57:26. > :57:27.Eastbourne. And a very different player to the one out on court last

:57:28. > :58:01.year against Maria Sharapova. It has really been stunning to watch

:58:02. > :58:07.the rise of Konta and how strong she is mentally. There is the coach of

:58:08. > :58:27.Eugenie Bouchard. Long-time coach from her teens. He's back!

:58:28. > :59:00.Just bossing Bouchard around with those powerful ground strokes.

:59:01. > :59:15.Really interesting shot selection, there. Took the pace off, and went

:59:16. > :59:19.short, drawing Bouchard forward. She doesn't like to come to the net if

:59:20. > :59:29.it's not on her own terms. Just eight minutes in and Konta already

:59:30. > :59:49.with a look at the Bouchard serve. She started in style.

:59:50. > :59:59.Well, the support camp will be very happy. Her coach on the right, Herb

:00:00. > :00:10.Roy friend. He works for Hawk-Eye, the line calling technology. Her

:00:11. > :00:14.dad, Gabor. Her mum, Gabriella. I'm not sure if she is back in

:00:15. > :00:17.Eastbourne or up in London, but she gets very nervous. Even at

:00:18. > :00:21.Eastbourne she goes back home and watches it on the telly! Towns like

:00:22. > :00:28.Wayne Brian, the Bryan brothers twins, their dad. She doesn't -- he

:00:29. > :00:33.doesn't like to watch it. What about you? I'm not a great watcher but I

:00:34. > :00:38.have to do it, you have to do it for your kid. I was saying that what

:00:39. > :00:43.I've noticed the most, besides the improvement of the forehand of

:00:44. > :00:48.Konta, she's always been a good athlete and had a big serve,

:00:49. > :00:53.terrific backhand. But it's just the boys, the confidence. The belief

:00:54. > :01:02.when she is out on court. Terrific composure. Always positive.

:01:03. > :01:08.Everyone has had a little breather and while Jo is not a household name

:01:09. > :01:54.yet, she is getting there. Interesting also how the narrative

:01:55. > :02:33.has changed in one year. Two years ago Bouchard got to the finals.

:02:34. > :03:27.Now it is Konta with all the eyes on her and the expectations.

:03:28. > :04:27.Bouchard definitely keen to be part of this conversation.

:04:28. > :04:41.She didn't move her feet, Konta. Her feet got stuck. It was interesting

:04:42. > :04:52.that Bouchard got up to number five in the world 2014.

:04:53. > :05:09.She dismissed her coach and her agent.

:05:10. > :05:45.Sometimes when you are 20 and headstrong you think you know best.

:05:46. > :05:50.I think our camp and the people around her should have helped her

:05:51. > :06:18.with that. Things were changing very quickly.

:06:19. > :06:35.Eugenie is a tough cookie. She bounces straight back.

:06:36. > :06:40.It was almost incredible, after making that Wimbledon final, she

:06:41. > :06:45.bounced into the top ten in the world. But the trajectory since then

:06:46. > :06:51.has been downwards. I am not quite sure when she hit rock bottom. Haps

:06:52. > :06:57.it is like my shares last week! She has made a couple of war finals this

:06:58. > :07:04.week, small tour finals and has not done brilliantly. Do you think the

:07:05. > :07:09.share is heading in the right direction? I think our lowest moment

:07:10. > :07:13.was when she went back to playing in her hometown of Montreal. She was

:07:14. > :07:17.losing to Shelby Rogers and in the first set she broke down in tears.

:07:18. > :07:22.Nick came down to talk to her and she said, I don't want to be here.

:07:23. > :07:26.That was very difficult to watch. Last day, I think she started to

:07:27. > :07:32.make headway and played well in the US Open. She fell and slipped in the

:07:33. > :07:36.locker room. She had concussion and had to pull out of the US Open and

:07:37. > :07:39.really never recovered the rest of the year. On her way back I think

:07:40. > :09:02.now. It all gets rather complicated these

:09:03. > :09:07.days. The umpire overruled the out call and then Bouchard then took on

:09:08. > :09:44.the umpire and was wrong. Now she gets a first serve.

:09:45. > :09:50.Nice. CHEERING

:09:51. > :10:01.The perfect time for a drop shot. Excellent job from Bouchard to get

:10:02. > :12:04.away from that serve. Great to see Bouchard hit this and

:12:05. > :12:32.immediately move forward. She sees Konta is going with the slice.

:12:33. > :12:36.I don't want to see those type of errors from Konta, on the backhand

:12:37. > :13:16.side when she's not even on move. Normally it is a wing you feel is

:13:17. > :14:19.never going to miss. Very reliable. A couple of loose points from Konta.

:14:20. > :14:21.I wonder if she's feeling the pressure, the first time on Centre

:14:22. > :14:49.Court as favourite. She is having a look.

:14:50. > :14:57.UMPIRE: Ms Khan is challenging the call. The ball was called out. -- Ms

:14:58. > :15:18.Konta. Replay the point. UMPIRE: Ms Bouchard is challenging

:15:19. > :15:44.the call. The ball was called out. Two pieces of files. If that. We

:15:45. > :15:46.could not imagine tennis without it now on the big courts. We are so

:15:47. > :16:18.spoilt. Tracy, what is happening out here?

:16:19. > :17:07.That was a bad miss. It is a high-quality second-round

:17:08. > :17:11.match. Bouchard is back to her best and hit a 5-2 lead in this first

:17:12. > :17:17.set. SUE BARKER: So, Konta, the 16th seed

:17:18. > :17:22.in real trouble on Centre Court. And news that another seed is in trouble

:17:23. > :17:29.out on Court Number Two. We have already lost 16 seeds so far today.

:17:30. > :17:36.But I'd mess go right there, who is playing the teenager out on Court

:17:37. > :17:47.Number Two, she is a break of serve down in the third set. -- Agnieszka

:17:48. > :17:54.Radwanska. It is all happening on this busy day at Wimbledon. Over on

:17:55. > :17:56.Court Number One, it is Dominic Thiem, the eighth seed. He has

:17:57. > :18:05.dropped the opening set to Jiri Vesely. Dominic Thiem has been an

:18:06. > :18:10.amazing form all summer at the French Open. He is in trouble on

:18:11. > :18:18.Court Number One. You can see that on the website, the app and collect

:18:19. > :18:24.connected TV. And Andrea Petkovic of Germany was defeated by Elena

:18:25. > :18:30.Vesnina of Russia who is ranked 50 in the world. 16 seeds have gone out

:18:31. > :18:35.so far today and more seeds in trouble all around Wimbledon. What a

:18:36. > :19:02.story it has been. Back we go to centre.

:19:03. > :19:06.Pressure and expectations can do funny things to your game. Just ask

:19:07. > :19:26.Genie Bouchard. A great rebound there. And so often,

:19:27. > :19:47.the pressure will affect our footwork will stop.

:19:48. > :19:57.UMPIRE: Correction, ball was good. Ms Bouchard is challenging the call

:19:58. > :20:11.on the right baseline. The ball was called in.

:20:12. > :20:17.Replay the point. They will have to replay the point because Bouchard

:20:18. > :20:27.hit it back. It's great David the net. -- it scraped over the net.

:20:28. > :20:31.Everyone is edgy out there. We are pretty relaxed in the commentary

:20:32. > :20:41.box! I feel the nerves for the young ladies.

:20:42. > :22:16.I think nerves play a big part in the match.

:22:17. > :22:40.So, the British number one, who came here as a 14-year-old to Britain,

:22:41. > :22:44.initially her parents moved to Canary Wharf, but they decided after

:22:45. > :22:56.the beaches of Sydney it was nice to go to the south coast of Eastbourne.

:22:57. > :23:23.She is pushing back here against Canada's best player.

:23:24. > :23:34.A very solid performance from Bouchard. Playing very well within

:23:35. > :23:36.herself. A good margin on her shots. Watching this, Tracy, I feel we have

:23:37. > :23:47.scrolled back to 2014. Not allowing herself to be pushed

:23:48. > :24:19.back at all. A short backswing. The Canadian does it in style. She

:24:20. > :25:28.takes the first set in just over half an hour by six games to three.

:25:29. > :25:37.And that to me, Tracy, looks like a decent set of numbers on the

:25:38. > :25:41.left-hand side. Bouchard being aggressive, winning five of six at

:25:42. > :25:47.the net. Coming in at the appropriate moments. 83% of her

:25:48. > :25:56.first serves in and she is going pretty big. That is impressive.

:25:57. > :26:32.Winning two of the three points. She has had the opportunity to break.

:26:33. > :26:36.Konta put up a racket in the middle of that point but did not verbally

:26:37. > :26:45.they challenge. I have a feeling you were the only

:26:46. > :28:03.person around the court that saw it! Such a strong second serve. 100 mph.

:28:04. > :28:07.And mixing it up beautifully. A lot of opponents over the last year say

:28:08. > :29:21.they cannot read the second serve. It was interesting, a friend of mine

:29:22. > :29:30.who is here today, a sport psychologist, he also visits

:29:31. > :29:34.captains of industry, businesses, he is a big friend of Esteban, her

:29:35. > :29:41.tennis coach, he actually visited her law firm and she said he was

:29:42. > :29:46.fascinating to listen to and he very much models his psychology on that

:29:47. > :29:47.of Doctor Steve Peters, a very famous sports psychologist in this

:29:48. > :30:02.country. It is exactly what you were saying,

:30:03. > :30:03.it is about not allowing your emotions to take over your rational

:30:04. > :30:42.mind. Very difficult. Konta handled beautifully in the

:30:43. > :30:49.first round. She had a very tough first-round opponent, Monica of

:30:50. > :30:57.Puerto Rico, just outside of being seeded. Monica Puig also got to the

:30:58. > :31:03.semifinals at Eastbourne, so a good grass court player. Also, Konta had

:31:04. > :31:07.to come back, she had to sleep on the match. She was up and then she

:31:08. > :31:09.had to finish the match on Court Number One. That's always difficult,

:31:10. > :31:29.added nerves. Konta's on-board computer, hard

:31:30. > :31:30.drive, is doing a good job here. A couple of chances to get the early

:31:31. > :32:57.break. APPLAUSE

:32:58. > :32:59.Battle of the forehand shots. I think both players have a more

:33:00. > :33:41.sturdy backhand. Jo's lucky spot, with the aces all

:33:42. > :33:47.tending to hit down that T. Bouchard is needs to start recognising these

:33:48. > :33:52.patterns. UMPIRE: Miss Konta is challenging

:33:53. > :34:35.the call. The ball was called out. Miss Gunter has two challenges

:34:36. > :34:42.remaining. It was Jo who broke in the first set. Was broken back

:34:43. > :34:57.immediately. Looks like that pattern may continue itself in the second.

:34:58. > :35:08.APPLAUSE Well, that must have hit the line.

:35:09. > :35:11.It just checked. So tough when you're swinging so freely to alter

:35:12. > :35:29.your swing path at that point. APPLAUSE

:35:30. > :35:45.It is aggressive stuff. When you think about where Jo must

:35:46. > :35:51.have been mentally after that first set...

:35:52. > :35:56.Especially because her game had deflated to lose it. Picked it up

:35:57. > :36:06.nicely now. Out.

:36:07. > :36:32.UMPIRE: Correction. Deuce. Not for Bouchard, though, who was on

:36:33. > :36:35.top of the point. It will have to be replayed back to deuce. Bouchard has

:36:36. > :36:41.already had a couple of break points in this game.

:36:42. > :37:04.That had a lot of velocity. Really stepped in, good commitment. Just

:37:05. > :37:09.reminding us why she is top 20 in the world these days. Huge game from

:37:10. > :37:26.Konta! She is back in this match. STUDIO

:37:27. > :37:32.And that really was an important hold for the British number one. 3-0

:37:33. > :37:37.up in this second set. Earlier on Centre Court, Andy Murray whistled

:37:38. > :37:45.through his match against Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei, winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

:37:46. > :37:51.He dropped his opening service game but after that he never looked back.

:37:52. > :37:57.Good to see him back in good form on Centre Court. The crowd absolutely

:37:58. > :38:02.delighted with that performance. And he is through to face John Millman

:38:03. > :38:06.from Brisbane, Australia, who is ranked 67 in the world because he

:38:07. > :38:19.put out Benoit Paire of France, the 26 seed, in four sets. Andy Murray

:38:20. > :38:25.will be facing John Millman. Richard Gasquet, the number seven seed, last

:38:26. > :38:31.year's semifinalist, had a scare, dropping the opening set to Marcel

:38:32. > :38:36.Granollers. Then he came through the next three sets. He goes through to

:38:37. > :38:41.the next round to face Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain. A big story

:38:42. > :38:48.brewing on Court Two, because the number three seed is in trouble,

:38:49. > :38:52.Agnieszka Radwanska. We lost Garbine Muguruza earlier and now the

:38:53. > :38:58.18-year-old from Croatia is just two points away from putting out the

:38:59. > :39:00.former finalist. Ana Konjuh, remember the name. We are heading

:39:01. > :39:23.back to Centre Court. COMMENTATOR: Well, it's hard to see

:39:24. > :39:27.Eugenie Bouchard, Canada's best player and first player to make a

:39:28. > :39:32.Grand Slam final, she has not done a lot wrong in this second set. It is

:39:33. > :40:19.Konta who has elevated her game. Come on! The point of the match, for

:40:20. > :40:29.sure. Just belting the ball with accuracy.

:40:30. > :40:37.Might just be point of the women's tournament. Bouchard is back. She

:40:38. > :40:43.likes the grass, she looks comfortable out here. She's very

:40:44. > :40:49.experienced in situations like this, pushing her opponent. Pushing right

:40:50. > :40:58.back on Konta. It's good to see. Great tennis.

:40:59. > :41:02.And very quickly puts the disappointment of not breaking in

:41:03. > :42:08.the last game behind her. Nick is standing up. There is

:42:09. > :42:18.Genie's mum, behind, in the black sweater, Julie.

:42:19. > :42:42.Such a feature of women's tennis now, isn't it? How low they get.

:42:43. > :43:09.Genie firing right back up. Wow! Very solid pass crosscourt and

:43:10. > :43:15.immediately Bouchard moves forward. She hits it early enough that Konta

:43:16. > :43:21.can't cover that down the line. Eight momentum swing back in

:43:22. > :43:36.Bouchard's favour. Seven points in a row, can she make it eight?

:43:37. > :43:39.Bouchard might have actually been able to get that last shot if she

:43:40. > :44:34.hadn't slipped. Konta has saved five of seven break

:44:35. > :46:01.points. Can she save one more? Terrific scrambling from Konta. Nice

:46:02. > :46:07.dipping pass as well. Well, Andy Murray, the men's British number one

:46:08. > :46:11.was out here earlier for this match, the crowd didn't really need to

:46:12. > :46:50.invest quite as much. They are in Konta.

:46:51. > :46:55.UMPIRE: Miss Konta is challenging the call on the right baseline. The

:46:56. > :47:15.ball was called in. Deuce. These points are so physical.

:47:16. > :47:19.Moving each other... You and I were thinking the same thing, won't we?

:47:20. > :47:28.That challenge was just to give her a breather so she could reset here.

:47:29. > :48:17.These are laser-like shots. About a foot over the net. Very high risk.

:48:18. > :49:22.High quality. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:49:23. > :49:25.That is a monster holed from Konta! You really can't take your eyes off

:49:26. > :49:32.this one. STUDIO

:49:33. > :49:37.Well, what a match this is proving to be on Centre Court. The crowd

:49:38. > :49:41.absolutely loving the quality of the tennis right now. Right back on

:49:42. > :49:47.Centre Court in just a moment. It's all happening on Court Two as well,

:49:48. > :49:51.because Ana Konjuh had a couple of match points but Radwanska broke

:49:52. > :49:56.back. Then she broke Radwanska, she is serving for the match against at

:49:57. > :50:01.as you can see it is 0-30. The number three seed is really fighting

:50:02. > :50:05.to stay in the Championship. It is live on the red button if you want

:50:06. > :50:09.to see that. We've already said goodbye to the number two seed,

:50:10. > :50:17.Garbine Muguruza. She was beaten by Jana Cepelova on the Court One. She

:50:18. > :50:21.put Simona Halep out in the first round last year and she has also

:50:22. > :50:25.beaten Serena Williams at Charleston, so she is used to the

:50:26. > :50:33.giant-killing. Today she has put out last year's finalist. We have lost

:50:34. > :50:40.16 seeds today so a lot for Clare Balding and her guests to talk about

:50:41. > :50:47.on Today At Wimbledon. A little later than usual. A lot to talk

:50:48. > :50:51.about there. We've got about ten minutes to go here on BBC Two before

:50:52. > :50:55.we say goodbye, but we will be saying with -- staying with the

:50:56. > :50:58.Centre Court match if you want to continue watching it, on BBC Four.

:50:59. > :51:44.That is in about ten minutes's time. Really impressive the way that Konta

:51:45. > :51:53.has come on and brought her game back together in this second set.

:51:54. > :53:06.The crowd just starting to understand just how tough the

:53:07. > :53:24.British number one is, as she serves to level up this second round match.

:53:25. > :53:34.APPLAUSE That, in my opinion, is a

:53:35. > :53:41.consequence of the great defence from Konta. Bouchard could see Konta

:53:42. > :53:49.scrambling to the backhand wing and tried to make it too fine. Well,

:53:50. > :53:52.this match just going into its second hour. From the word go, these

:53:53. > :55:24.two have not missed a beat out here. He knows what it's like playing

:55:25. > :55:46.Wimbledon. He made the fourth round himself, back in the day.

:55:47. > :55:57.Timing that return so well. She stands so close to the baseline, she

:55:58. > :56:02.really demands excellent eye hand from herself. She hasn't been able

:56:03. > :56:28.to convert. That is seven from nine from Konta.

:56:29. > :56:32.I was waiting for you, Tracy, you are keeping an eye on the break

:56:33. > :56:56.points? Having a little chill out, there? Konta has faced more!

:56:57. > :57:11.Just too good. Going up the T a lot on that serve. She splits and moves

:57:12. > :57:14.a half step to her right, expecting that. But that wacko tennis was too

:57:15. > :57:49.accurate. Well, she has looked straight up at

:57:50. > :57:55.her player box. Challenge. First double fault. Which is pretty

:57:56. > :57:57.amazing, as she goes through so much on her second serve. Mixes it around

:57:58. > :58:17.nicely to different locations. STUDIO

:58:18. > :58:21.Well, I'm afraid here on BBC Two we have to leave this match at this

:58:22. > :58:25.crucial stage of the second set. What we are going to move our

:58:26. > :58:30.coverage over to BBC Four, so you will see the conclusion of this

:58:31. > :58:38.match over on BBC Four. If you want to tune into the highlights

:58:39. > :58:43.programme, that is another later time of 9:30pm. So much to go

:58:44. > :58:50.through. You can catch up with all the news of the day. We have lost 16

:58:51. > :58:52.seeds on a very busy day here at Wimbledon. For now, goodbye.
